Disruptive Mood Disorder Analysis
As described in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM 5), disruptive
mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD) is a new diagnosis characterized by chronic irritability that
requires clinical attention. Averna, D Agati, Vicari (2016) emphasize that the prevalence of this
type of disorder ranges from 0.8% to 3.3% with higher rates in preschool age children (as cited in
Copeland et al. 2013) p.149. Mulraney et al.(2016) state that the child who received diagnosis of
DMDD experiences symptoms such as irritable/angry mood almost everyday, severe temper
outburst for an average of more than three times per week, and has difficulty functioning at multiple
settings which includes home, school, and with peers. The symptoms must... Show more content on

Aripiprazole is a type of atypical antipsychotics that approved by the US Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) to treat irritability, conduct disorder as well as autism in young patients
between 6 to 17 years old. According to Averna, D Agati, Vicari (2016), aripiprazole has an
exclusive mechanism of action such as having a combination of partial agonism at the D2 and 5
HT1A receptors and antagonism at the 5 HT2A receptor. For that reason, it leads them to
hypothesize the existence of a possible dose effect relationship of aripiprazole in the treatment of
DMDD (pp.149 150). The most common side effects of aripiprazole/abilify are nausea, headaches,
abdominal pain, heartburn, and the serious side effects are irregular heart beat, tightening of neck
muscles and throat, chest pain, confusion and etc. Since the symptoms of DMDD are more related
in the pathophysiology to children with depression, ADHD, and anxiety disorders, the risks for
mania is subsided. Therefore, the acceptable choices would be selective serotonin reuptake
inhibitors and CNS stimulants. In preliminary evidence proposes that youth with ADHD and
DMDD or with ADHD and repeated aggression respond positively to CNS stimulants with slight
risk of manic activation/adverse emotional effects

Literary Analysis Of A Tree Grows In Brooklyn
The Everlasting Tree An American classic is a novel that has beautiful language, complex
characters that change throughout the novel and is timeless. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn does just
that. Betty Smith, author of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, wrote this novel about a young girl s
coming of age during the early 1900 s. Smith wanted to publish a novelthat showed the American
Dream and the struggles of being poor in America. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is considered an
American classic because of its connection to the American Dream, how the hardships of being
poor prevented attaining that dream and the impact of Francie being a woman with the
injustices she faced. Betty Smith was a German immigrant that lived in Williamsburg Brooklyn,
New York (Johnson). She was a play writer and a novelist at a young age (Johnson) . Smith
began her writing career at Ann Arbor and her playwriting career at the Yale School of Drama
(Johnson). Her move to North Carolina to become a part of the WPA Federal Theater Project
kick started her career as a play writer (Johnson). Her novel, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, was
written over a period of a few years and was based on her own life (Johnson). As soon as it was
published in 1943 it became a bestseller instantly and many saw Smith as a major component of
literacy in the 1940 s (Johnson). The stress of her overnight success put a considerable amount of
pressure on her to write consimore novels (Johnson). She settled in Chapel Hill, NC where she later

Pollution and Environment Essay
A Modest Proposal for Methanol and Ethanol Powered Cars We need more stringent regulations
on car emissions... Let s add MTBE to the fuel that will reduce pollution... If people would just
stop driving so much, pollution wouldn t be so bad... People have long recognized the problems
with the gasoline we used now. We have tried everything from putting regulations on emissions, to
putting additives in the gasoline (only to discover later that MTBE got into the groundwater), to
campaigns to get people off the road. However, more and more cars are on the roads as the
population increases, and people are not going to stop driving. Additives are as likely to cause
problems as they are to prevent them. Just changing the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To help protect the environment, our health, and our economic independence, the government
should use all the revenues from the taxes on dirty fossil fuels to subsidize research and the
production of alcohol burning cars. Problems with Cleaner Fuel Of course there are reasons
why we have not converted to alcohol burning vehicles before. Ethanol costs more per gallon
than gasoline. However, new technologies have the potential to produce ethanol at significantly
smaller costs. Methanol, a high performance liquid fuel made from wood or coal, can be
produced at prices comparable to the prices of gasoline and natural gas. In addition, oil does not
occur naturally in unlimited supply, and just in the past few years, gas prices have been
increasing dramatically. Those prices will not fall back down. However, the introduction of an
inexpensive alcohol based fuel would provide an alternative means of power and give
consumers more choices. Some people argue that decreasing the oil we use would harm the
economies of countries like Venezuela that depend on America buying their oil. However, as
third world countries grow and develop, they will also need fuel sources and the United States has
no right to monopolize large portions of the available resources. Besides, it is not the responsibility
of the United States to provide markets for all companies in the world. Markets come and go, and

Classifying and Treating a Fracture of a Bone
A fracture is a break or disruption in the continuity of the bone that often affects mobility and
sensation. It can occur anywhere in the body and at any age (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p.
1144). All fractures follow the same mechanism and require similar care regardless of type or
location. (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144) A fracture is classified by the severity of the
break being either complete or incomplete fractures: A complete fracture is a break along the
width of the bone resulting in the bone being separated into two sections. An incomplete fracture
is a fracture that does not result in the separation of bone because the break is only partially
through the bone. (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144) A closed (simple) fracture does not
cause injury to the skin and, therefore, does not have any noticeable wound. This type of fracture
still needs to be managed by stabilization of the bone and realignment if necessary. Open fractures
are ones in which a portion of the bone breaks through the skin or a wound penetrates through to a
fractured bone (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, 2011). Open fractures frequently
involve more damage to surrounding tendons, ligaments, and muscles than in a closed fractures.
They take a longer time to heal and are at increased risk for complications (American Academy of
Orthopedic Surgeons, 2011). Open fractures represent a range of injury: first, the basic underlying
problem of the fracture; second, the

Hoosier Hysteria
Hoosier Hysteria; this phrase brings together families and friends together to watch college
basketball history season after season. Indiana University has been one of the top known and
stunningly successful team for over sixty years. Although Indiana has been spotty in between some
coaches there are certain coaches that have put IU on the record books. Ranking number one in the
nation for weeks and weeks the hoosiers are undeniably one of the bests. Through various coaching
methods and philosophies, four coaches stood out changed the Indiana basketballprogram
immensely Firstly, Branch McCracken, the coach of the 1938 to 1943 and also 1946 to 1965
Indiana Hoosier, was one of the top 3 coaches statistically scoring teams in IU basketball. With
both seasoned combined he saw a great record of 364 174. During his intermission between the
two times that he coached McCracken served in the United States Army for World War 2.
Coaching Indiana he lead them to have six perfect seasons which averaged around 24 0. The
Hoosiers were unstoppable and they went all the way to win a NCAA title and 20 wins, which
at the time was the record. This win put him in the record books as the youngest coach ever to
win a NCAA tournament. The 20 3 record would not again be beat for thirteen years until broken
by Indiana again (Pfeiffer). McCracken was also never a hateful and biased person, he viewed all
players as equal and did not think of discrimination was responsible for recruiting Bill

Wild Vs Animal Captivity
There are numerous different types of animals in the world. Coming from amphibians, reptiles,
mammals, and birds. All of these animals are born to run free and hunt without relying on a
human. Sadly, things aren t the way it s supposed to be. There are other animals who are taken
away from their home and are locked up in cramped spaces; in other words, the zoo. The zoo may
seem like an enjoyable activity for children, but many do not know the half of what goes on behind
the glass window. Animals wish they can be free and end the nightmare of being captive. Even
though both animals that lie in the wild and animal captivity are one, in the group of animals, there
are many differences between them. The first difference is that animals that are kept in the zoo are
dependent on humans, but wild animals are independent and self reliant. The animalsthat live
indoors are given food by their caretaker, supplies and are basically babied daily. An example is a
chimpanzee that has grown up in captivity, they do not have the opportunities to learn from their
distant relatives because they are adapted to human ways. On the other hand, wild female chimps
acquire their nurturing skills from their mothers and other relatives in their group. Therefore, wild
animals are independent and can live in natural habitats without human interaction. The second
difference is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and anxious. An example is living without room often causes zoophobia, a condition in which
animals act strangely and even hurt themselves out of boredom and frustration. Unlike captivity,
wild animals are allowed to roam around as much as they require to. They don t require to roam
around in a certain amount of space, they have as much space as they want and are able to do
anything they wish to do. This would cause them to feel the relief of

Diverse Cultures And Various Political Systems Fuel The...
Diverse cultures and various political systems fuel the complicated relationship between states,
making international cooperation a relevant topic of discussion. Political scientists use these
discussions to come up with theories that can predict different levels of cooperation, the likelihood
that collaboration might occur and what sorts of conditions are necessary to promote higher levels
of cooperation between states. Neorealists and neoliberals have developed opposing theories on this
topic. Neorealists focus on explaining the anarchic structure of the world to place emphasis on the
permanence of conflict. They believe that states should primarily focus on securing survival and
security through an economic and military build up. On the other hand, according to Essentials of
International Relations, neoliberals view the world as anarchic and individual states as self
interested, but draw different conclusions about statebehavior than neorealists, predicting that they
are more likely to cooperate due to the influence of institutions (Mingst and Arreguin Toft, 117).
Neoliberals aim to bring about security and survival while promoting economic gains and believe
that cooperation is achievable if states share common interests. In this paper I am going to explain
in what ways neoliberalism is more likely promote cooperation in the international system, than
neorealism. While neoliberals do not deny the anarchic nature of the international system, they do
however believe its

Synthesis of t Pentyl Chloride Introduction: Using SN1 reaction mechanism with hydrochloric
acid, t Pentyl alcohol was converted to t Pentyl chloride in an acid catalyzed reaction. The reaction
took place in a separatory funnel designed to separate immiscible liquids. The crude product was
extracted by transferring a solute from one solvent to another. The process of washing the solutions
by phase transfer was used in order to remove impurities from the main solvent layer. Finally, the
crude product was dried with anhydrous Calcium chloride and purified once more by simple
distillation technique. Results and Discussion: Main reaction(s) and Mechanism(s): Reaction:

Once inverted, built up gas was released by turning the stopcock to its opened and closed
positions. This was repeated for about four times in one minute intervals. Then the layers were
allowed to settle until a separation between liquids could be observed. Due to the low density of
the product, the top layer was to be extracted. The bottom layer was carefully and slowly
extracted out of the separatory funnel. The crude product was washed by taking the reaction
product in the separatory funnel and adding 23 mL of deionized H2O. The mixture was shaken
and allowed to settle until layers were observable. The top layer was the desired product and
approximately 25 mL of aqueous layer was extracted from the separatory funnel. Next, 25 mL of
5% NaHCO3 was added to the separatory funnel in order to neutralize the acid. This mixture was
swirled, plugged with the stopper and inverted. Built up gas was released by turning the
stopcock to its opened and closed positions, releasing CO2 by product. This was done four times
in one minute intervals. The solution was allowed to settle until layers were observable. The
bottom layer that contained salt, base and water was extracted from the separatory funnel. The
crude product was washed again as mentioned previously. The wet, crude product was placed into
the 50 mL Erlenmeyer flask. Small amounts of CaCl2 were added to dry the solution. The flask
was sealed and the mixture was swirled and left to settle. Once

Life Of Pi Science Vs Religion
Yann Martel s Life of Pi is the story of a young man who survives a painful, terrifying shipwreck
and months in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. The book describes Piscine
(Pi) Patel s life and harrowing journeys after the shipwreck that took the lives of many people
immigrating to Canada, including his own mother and countless animals from the family s zoo. Pi
must survive on a small lifeboat with a hungry predator. This journey of 227 days changes the way
he sees the world, and it just might change the reader s view too. This is a novelthat will make you
believe in God. New York Times
Faith and science, two vastly different perspectives on the world, coexist throughout the book in a
delicate balance. This novel of literary merit is filled with wonder. It has an aspect of purity that
shows off a fresh look at our human traits, about religious topics, zoos and the wild, and the
possibility of freedom. One thing that stood out about this novel is the way it perfectly blends
religion and science, and then puts the two to the ultimate test in a treacherous survival situation.

Fcs Rewarding Benefits
The first major constraint need to mention that is finance. As a for profit enterprise, profit
maximization is not the only goal of FSC. This organization also aims to provide high quality
primary care to patients as well as to teach young doctors through the Family Medicine
Residency program. All these goals are important, however, conflicting as well. Making a profit
in FCS is necessary because only when FCS maintain a generally positive profitability, can it
afford to pay higher for its staff and fund major capital investments in facilities and technology.
However, the other goals of FCS such as, education, quality of care and patient satisfaction seem
that they have less or even no direct contribution to the revenue of FCS. Furthermore, because of
the payer mix, the financial effect for seeing additional patient varied widely. Private payers
generally paid more to FCS than Medicare and Medi Cal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, the reward should be valued. Reward will not provide motivation for higher performance if
it had no value. According to different situation, the reward should be various for different level
of staff. For example, an extra compensation package can be given annually to those valuable
skilled physicians. It is a useful way to attract and retain good doctors, which will have a
aggregation effect for those experienced personnel. These aggregation effect could increase the
FSC performance and make a benefits to the organization effectively. In addition, the reward could
be made various direct at different individual clinicians. As the rewards are divided into two
categories, monetary and non monetary and in each categories, there contains various contents,
such as, perquisites, vacation trips and participation in decisions. Managers should implement
incentives to staff according to each individual s requirement, which make the reward be durable
and have greater value to make employees remember

The Charismatic Leadership Of Preston Tucker
This reflection essay is meant to examine the various aspects of the charismatic leadership of
Preston Tucker in the movie Tucker. Tucker is a movie about Preston Tucker s endeavor to create
an advanced car for Post World War II America. Preston Tucker s vision of this futuristic car
includes revolutionary features such as seatbelts, pop out windshields, and an engine in the rear
rather than the front of the car. Preston is able to build this car (and his company) from the ground
up by inspiring and empowering his followers to meet endless challenges. Preston Tucker s
charismatic leadershipwill be examined by examining his leadership style, vision, and how he
empowered his followers. First, Preston Tucker is an extremely charismatic leader. His charismais
derived from his confidence in his vision and followers. He is passionate and refuses to accept
failure, often having huge expectations for his followers (this is shown often throughout the film
when Preston Tucker gets upset with his design team for claiming to not be able to complete the
task). His confidence in his vision and followers is displayed multiple times in the film. On one
occasion, his lead designer tries explaining to him that the current headlight design will not work
and that it will be dangerous to anyone driving. Although Tucker will fight tooth and nail for the
vision of his car, he has enough confidence in his followers to trusthis designer in what he is
saying. Preston Tucker is able

The foundations of the International Typographic Style can be traced to two art schools, the Zurich
School of the Applied Arts and the School of Design in Basel, who taught a curriculum in which
form follows function.
The 1950s saw a boom of the International style when it was epitomized with the creation of
several new san serif type families. The geometric fonts on the 1920s and 30s was rejected in favor
of designs inspired by Akzidenz Grotesk fonts. Two fonts would soon take the world by storm. In
1954 a Swiss designer working in Paris by the name of Adrian Frutiger created a family of 21 san
serif fonts which he named, Univers. At the same time, back in Switzerland Edouard Hoffman of
the Haas type foundry in Switzerland felt that the Akzidenz Grtotesk fonts should be refined and
upgraded. Hoffman had been waiting for the right moment to release a new typeface and in 1956 he
contacted Max Miedinger, who had worked with him at Haas and had since branched out as a
freelance consultant and designer to help create the new typeface for Haas. Hamburgers. No, not
the food, the word. Miedinger began to create a new typeface by working out the letters in the

Whole Foods Market has had experience in the natural/organic retailing industry since 1980. For
the past 30+ years they have built over 300 large customized stores in North America and also in
the United Kingdom. Whole Foods Market is known to provide the highest quality of products.
Weaknesses of Whole Foods Market include the high prices for their products; this is a direct
result of the company s focus on their availability of the finest products. The majority of Whole
Foods Market inventory consists of perishable items. This can sometimes pose problems
because, produce, milk, eggs have a short shelf life, Produce especially needs constant
maintenance to be graded as well as pulling the damaged or bruised produce off the sales floor.
Working as a produce clerk for several years I know the importance decreasing the cost of throw
away products. It hurts the company s sales especially when you are dealing with pricy high quality
natural and organic foods. Another weakness the Whole Foods Market faces is the high costs
associated with expanding into different locations.

A Brief Note On Physician Assisted Suicide ( Pas )
Physician assisted suicide (PAS) has fueled a lot of debate ever since it was first legalized in
Oregon in 1997. PAS is when a doctor prescribes a medication that the patient can use to end
their life. Washington legalized PAS in March of 2009, but only saw 255 individuals in 2012 who
acquired the medication necessary to end their life from their doctor, resulting in only 24 of those
patients using the prescription (McBride 45). It is debatable whether or not PAS should be seen as
the equivalent to the suicidethat we have labeled as immoral and have tried to prevent while others
also question whether PAS is a reasonable solution to the sufferingthat terminally ill patients are
inevitably being put through. I believe PAS should not be legalized in any other state and should,
therefore, become illegal in the four states which now allow it and instead train their doctors to
provide better palliative care for their patients. To begin, individuals who agree with PAS support
their argument by focusing on the suffering that the patient would no longer have to go through.
Supporters have called it the right to die movement and are concentrating on informing the public
that people who are suffering due to their terminal illness have the right to die and would have,
what they have deemed as, a deathwith dignity (Lachman 121). PAS has gained names which
reflect it in a positive light such as right to die, good death, rational suicide, aid in dying, and
merciful release

Analysis Of Chaim Potok s The Chosen, Verbal...
Since the beginning of time, humans have endeavored to express their thoughts to other humans.
Early on, humans may have expressed their thoughts through only body language and primitive
grunts; however, as civilization progressed, humans developed intelligible language. From
development of that early language, written language was sprouted. From some development of
that written language, other forms of communication came into being. Today, many forms of
communication exist; however, all of them center around verbal communication. In Chaim
Potok s critically acclaimed novel, The Chosen, verbal communication, or the lack thereof, is a
main theme. The lack of communication, silence, in The Chosen is used by Potok not only to
show the suffering of his characters but also to symbolize the struggles of the Jewish people.
Potok uses silence prominently in The Chosen to show isolation. Both of the protagonists in the
book experience an isolating silence; for example, the silence imposed upon Danny is a main
component of the novel s plot. Danny s pain and isolation is caused by his father s silence toward
him. Reb Saunders, Danny s father, doesn t speak with Danny because he believes that being
silent toward Danny is what is best for him; however, the other characters of the book see only that
the silence causes Danny suffering. Reb s silence toward Danny would seem cruel in a normal
situation, but in Danny s situation, it seems to be atrocious. In the forties, being a Jew

The General View Of Retirement
Switzerland
What is the general view of retirement in Switzerland?
Demographics have changed quickly for Switzerland as its retirement population increases and
estimated to continue the trend going forward. Similar to other European countries Switzerland s
retirement program is pillared, what has made the difference in this country is the diversification
within each retirement component limiting the effect and avoiding global market and local
economy hardships. The uncertainties still lay ahead as the retirement system adjusts to support it
purpose of sustaining the means for superannuation.
Are there government programs to help people afford their later years similar to Social Security?
The public system for retirement is basically a pay as you go finance obligation covering the
public living and employed in Switzerland. Men become eligible from the age of 65 and women
from the age of 64, receiving benefits related to years of contribution. Early retirement is possible
with reduced benefits up to 6.8 % for each year drawn early. Individuals can chose to delay

Example Of Heroism In Beowulf
Question four
Beowulf is determined as a hero in my eyes, throughout the brave and heroic attributes that he had
undertaken within this poem. When defining a hero in our first week of class, we had come up
with the idea that a hero is someone who is: selfless, has strength, sacrifices everything that they
have for the greater good and shows confidence. Beowulf has shown all of these attributes
beginning with being selfless. Beowulf came to the Danes because he knew that he needed to
not only keep his kingdom safe, but surrounding kingdoms. Beowulf s heroism was defined on
these next couple of lines. On line 193, There was no one else like him alive. In his day, he was
the mightiest man on earth, high born and powerful. He ordered a boat that would ply the waves.
He announced his plan (Heaney, 15, 193 196). Beowulf knew the dangers that fighting this demon
could bring, but he sacrificed everything he had. If Beowulf would have lost the battle, his
Kingdom (Geats) would have been left with nothing and Hrothgars kingdom would still be under
attack. Beowulf also shows his strength throughout the poem. When Beowulf arrives at the Danes,
he shows no fear. Beowulf speaks with Hrothgar to learn what is true about his threat. Beowulf
speaks giving the Danes much hope, line 294 whatever it is, this danger abroad in the dark nights,
I come to proffer my wholehearted help and counsel (Heaney, 21, 294 298). Beowulf is a hero and a
leader, even if we look at him within modern times. Beowulf shows cause and reason to why he
is at the Danes, he creates leadership upon his men and he has shown devotion towards this cause
of wanting to defeat Grendal the demon in the poem. Every move Beowulf takes in this poem is
what I believe we would want in the modern times of war. We want a leader that will be able to
take charge and follow through with the actions they speak upon. In modern time, we also want a
leader that protects our land and has their best opinion out for their Country. We want a leader like
Beowulf. There is times that as a reader one could think that he is only completing these heroic
attributes to uphold his overall reputation of himself, but isn t that everyone s main goal when
completing a monumental task?

Explain The Differences Between The Hayward Gallery
Explain the differences between the Hayward gallery (1968) and its South Bank neighbour, the
Royal Festival Hall (1951) in terms of their planning and finishing and in the different ways they
relate to their urban context.
While there are many similarities between the Hayward Gallery
and Royal Festival Hall, there also are a number of differences in terms of planning and finishing
in relation to urban context. Higgs and Hill built the Hayward Gallery, which opened on The 9th
of July. It is an art gallery located in the Southbank Centre, which is a key arts venue in Central
London. Until early 2011 the gallery was simply known as the Hayward. The Royal Festival
Hall is situated adjacent to the Hayward Gallery. It is a famous dance, concert and talks venue
with a capacity of 2500. It was the first the post war building to listed as a Grade 1 building. The
Hall officially opened on 3rd May 1951 and was built as part of the Festival of Britain for the
London County Council. Planning plays an integral role in the procedure to achieve any given
outcome. Without any planning it would be extremely challenging for the architects to succeed
with their desired outcome. Nonetheless the finishing of any project is equally important as the
planning. The finishing refers to materials that are used not only to... Show more content on

The Blue Sweater Summary
The Blue Sweater talks about a lifelong philanthropist named Jacqueline Novogratz and how she
aided some of the world s poverty stricken populations with an economic plan. The book mentions
how in 2001, Novogratz started a project for a nonprofit venture capital firm that aimed to
reinvesting charitable funding that were focused on entrepreneurial endeavors. One of the projects
associated with The Acumen Fund are, the development of clean water. Another project that was
mentioned was, the irrigation systems in India and a bedding net manufacturer in Africa.
Novogratz s motivation to change the world, started when she was young. She wrote about who
assembles, who engages, and the insightful stories about her journey toward effective
philanthropy. When traveling in Africa in her 20s, she see a boy wearing a cherished blue wool
sweater she had donated to Goodwill 11 years earlier. This is an example of life s

Bartleby Underground Man Analysis
Throughout literature, the theme of alienation has held various personas that have been viewed
in different ways. Since the 1980s the rate of adults who consider themselves isolated has
doubled (Morning Shift). Learning this led me to believe that an isolated individual like
Bartleby and the Underground Man are more relatable to us now. Alienation can be romanticised
to an extent due to the mysteriousness a character can hold because he is an unknown. Humans
find that which they cannot have the most appealing whether it be a candy bar, or allow
interaction with an individual. Two of the biggest examples of alienation I have seen thus far is
Bartleby and the Underground Man. Both quite odd in their own ways, but isolated nonetheless,
and both by choice. Even though the two characters had their similarities they were also quite
different. For example, the Underground Man while isolated at least made attempts throughout
his lifetime to not be. Bartleby, however, slowly became more and more isolated as the story
went on. To start off let s discuss the Lawyer from Bartleby, the relationship the Lawyer shared
with his subordinates could be identified as a Marx capitalist alienation. As theorized by Marx,
alienation in the workplace is a fourfold process that involves the object being produced, the
process of production, the employee, and his coworkers (Bancroft). For Bartleby, his products
were copies he made for the Lawyer, and the process was the copying he did. From what I

Essay on Changing a Flat Tire
Changing a Flat Tire The following steps are the safest way to change a flat tire. If you received
a flat tire while driving down the road; first thing to do is to get away from oncoming traffic; at
that time, find a place that is well lit, such as a parking lot. Keep in mind the farther you drive on a
flat tire, the more damage you will incur to the tire and wheel. Secondly, set the parking brake so
that the car does not roll away while the car is off the ground. Then, you have to locate your
spare tire, which will replace the flat tire; that is usually in a compartment inside the trunk. The
spare tire is secured in place by a bolt or a bracket that unscrews easily. In addition to the spare tire,
you will need a jack to raise the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You will have to turn the lug nuts counter clockwise to loosen them. Do not remove the lug nuts
all the way off the threaded shaft. Next, to get the wheel off the car, you have to raise the corner of
the car where the flat is located.
Therefore, you will raise the jack so that it almost touches the car. Once the jack is raised enough
to just touch the car; position the jack so that it is not tilted; furthermore, make sure the jack is 6
12 inches behind the front or rear of the tire. When you are sure the jack is in position correctly;
proceed by raising the jack, so that the car will rise off the ground. Remember you need to fit a
fully inflated tire in place of the flat; therefore, make sure you jack the car up enough to get a
fully inflated tire under there. Once you have the car off the ground; go ahead and remove the
lug nuts with your hand. Now, grasp the wheel at 3 o clock and 9 o clock and pull the wheel
straight off. Place the flat tire in the trunk; otherwise, it will be in the way while you are working.
You will then, pick up the spare tire and line up the holes with the threaded shafts; then slide the
spare tire onto the threaded shafts. Next, you will spin the lug nuts on by hand; indeed, you have to
turn the lug nuts clockwise to tighten them.
Tighten the lug nuts as much as you can with your hands. Now you can lower the jack;

Antibiotics Combat Infectious Bacteria
Introduction:
Antibiotics have the ability to kill or hinder the growth of bacteria. Antibiotics contain compounds
that are naturally produced by organisms to combat diseases caused by microbes. Discovery of
penicillin by Sir Alexander Fleming became the first stepping stone of many new antibiotics of
today s modern medicine. Antibiotics typically invade the very components that make up bacteria,
such as cell walls and metabolic pathways (Sato et al., 2014). However, frequent mutations of
bacteria cause today s strains to become more resistant. One of many ways which bacteria undergo
mutation is through horizontal transfer of genes (Lindsay J.A., 2013). The war against disease is a
battle that humanity has fought for centuries, and only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Polymyxin B is known to only be effective against Gram negative bacteria, which was consistent
with the collected data. Gram positive effective antibiotics and protein synthesis inhibitors such as
azithromycin and tetracycline were expected to be ineffective to Gram negative bacteria, along
with DNA dependent RNA polymerase inhibitor such as rifampin. However, contrasting results
were depicted after 48 hours of incubation at 37вЃ°C. The bacteria appeared to be susceptible to
azithromycin when the bacteria were anticipated to be resistant. This discrepancy could be
explained through the molecular mechanism of azithromycin. Azithromycin induces adenine
methylation in the rRNA in the 50S ribosomal subunit, and past experiments have indicated that it
has a higher affinity for the erythromycin binding site for the ribosome to cause azithromycin to
be more susceptible in Gram negative bacteria (Retsema et al., 1987). In addition, a polypeptide
inhibitor such as penicillin was anticipated to be susceptible to the Gram negative bacteria, but it
was displayed to be resistant. Penicillin is known to be a ОІ lactam antibiotic consisting of ОІ
lactam ring that inhibits the cell wall synthesis of Enterobacteriaceae. A prevalent mechanism for
resistance to ОІ lactam antibiotic is hyperproduction of ОІ lactamase (Philippon et al., 2002).
Moreover, it is proposed that bacteria are resistant to penicillin due to the formation of microbial
colony biofilm (Thomson

Developing A Financial Plan Development Model
Financial Plan Development
Time Out is the title of this student s proposed program for the course project. Time Out will
provide prevention and solution based services to the targeted population, African American high
school student athletes, located in Hampton, Virginia (Baskerville, C., 2015). This paper will
provide readers with a two year financial plan for the proposed program using step VII: Develop
the Financial Management Plan, of Calley s Comprehensive Program Development model as a
guide (2011). Developing a financial plan requires an understanding of the program s projected
expenditures and revenues, which leads to program sustainability through financial management
(2011). The plan will include projected expenditures such as staff salaries, benefits, liability
insurance, office space, supplies, and equipment, and transportations. Then the paper will present
the organization s projected funding sources, monitoring and reporting processes, and ethical
considerations.
Two Year Projected Expenditures
Using information from the program design the student was able to project expenditures to
implement the proposed program (Calley, 2011). The projected expenditures are staffing,
administration, insurance (health and liability), and operating expenses such as office rental,
supplies, and utilities. Of all the projected expenditures, staffing will account for the largest expense
for the program need (2011). To project staffing expenses for the proposed program

Ophiuchus Research Paper
My favorite constellation is the Ophiuchus (also known by its Latin name Serpentarius). It lies in
the northern sky and is, in fact, the 11th largest constellation. It belongs to the Hercules family of
constellation and contains seven Messier objects and a number of notable stars. It is my favorite
because of the myth associated with it, which I learned during a camping trip from a classmate
who wanted to explore the outer space and knew much about the stars. Years later, that campfire
story is one of my most vivid memories.
Translated from Greek, Ophiuchus means snake bearer (from the root ПЊП†О№П‚ [ophis] snake )

Caravaggio And The Caravaggesque
Caravaggio, arguably one of the best Baroque artists of all time. Best known for his extremely
detailed, and realistic style of Baroque art, which, when paired together with Annibale Carracci
(1560 1609 ) classical style, allowed for him to overshadow the almost mundane style of
Mannerism. Though he was not considered the best artist of his time, when he was alive, he
managed to reinvigorate religious art in both Rome and Naples, allowing for wide spread change
in the religious art world, that, after spreading through Rome, reached almost all corners of Europe.
Though Caravaggiowas acursed with a violent hand, he is considered to be one of the most
influential artists of the 17th century, as his style revolved around taking certain characteristics
from previous afamed artists, thus allowing for him to create his own unique style that was
recognized nationwide, leading to the term caravaggesque, meaning, when a painting mimics the
style of his works, it is deemed as being caravaggesque .... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Theme of Nature in Frankenstein Essay
In 1818 Frankenstein was written by Mary Shelley. In Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein brings a
creature to life. The creature kills William, Henry Clerval, and Elizabeth. Victor had promised to
make a female creature for the creature, but he did not fulfill his promise. This makes the creature
enraged. The creature runs away and Victor follows him. Victor gets on a boat with Walton. Victor
dies and the creature comes and is very sad that his creator has died. The creature says that he must

The creature also wants to be noticed. The mountain is very beautiful, but during the storm it
may look scary. The creature is can be beautiful through his acts of kindness, like helping people,
but also is unattractive and can look and be grotesque. In the essay, Frankenstein and Mary
Shelley s wet ungenial summer , Phillips states, Some of her descriptions were later
incorporated into her novel. In another letter to her sister Fanny, on June 1st 1816, Mary wrote:
The thunder storms that visit us are grander and more terrific than I have ever seen before. We
watch them as they approach from the opposite side of the lake, observing the lightning play
among the clouds in various parts of the heavens, and dart in jagged figures upon the heights of
Jura, dark with the shadow of the overhanging could, while perhaps the sun is shining cheerily
upon us. (Phillips 3) Many of Mary Shelley s ideas came from nature. A storm similar to this one
was seen by victor. She uses this storm to describe how Victor sees the creature. Victor thinks the
creature is violent at times and beautiful at others. In addition, the creature causes destruction like
an avalanche. Shelley writes, In a thousand spots the traces of the winter avalanche may be
perceived, where trees lie broken and strewed on the ground; some entirely destroyed, others bent,
leaning upon the rocks of the mountain or transversely upon other trees. The path, as you ascend

Soft Bone Fractures
The argument still takes place among parents as to whether or not weak or soft bones result in
more fractures in children of young ages. Lack of nutrition in a child s overall health can result
from soft bones due to missing core vitamins and other necessary nutrients. The well known
childhood disease known as Rickets is the deficiency of bonemineralization that is mostly
recognizable at the growth plate. (The Lancet; October 2003, Wharton, Bishop) Rickets occurs
when the ossification process where cartilage is transformed into bone does not occur which results
in the softening of the bone at the end.
Soft bones are due to the lack of the ossification process taking place correctly, where the bone is
hardened. Bones that are soft as a result of those deficient in calcium, phosphate, or vitamin are

The fractures were consistent with failure of the bones to handle the load of falling or accidents,
and they can be distinguished from fractures seen in non accidental trauma. Therefore, in this study
Vitamin D did not pose as a major cause of the fractures in infants or toddlers. The data researched
and presented in the Pediatric Radiology Journal states, that there is not any comparable
information that poor mineralization in infants results in easier fracturing. However, lack of or

Health Care For The Uninsured Children
Quality Health Care for the Uninsured children in the United States in comparison to Health Care
for children in Canada.
Introduction:
In the U.S. Decreasing the number of uninsured is the number one goal of the Affordable Care
Act (ACA), which provides Medicaid coverage to many low income individuals (The Kaiser
Family Foundation, 2015, Introduction section). Despite the success of the ACA enrollment of
millions of people with health insurance, the most at risk and pressing group of our population is
the children. This is a group that needs our attention and their health should be the country s
number one priority. This is a vast difference from Canada, where every child has health care
coverage for life because of its Universal Health Care. Bodenheimer and Grumbach (2013) noted
that over the years, reformers in the United States argued for the passage of a national health
insurance program, government s guarantee that every person is insured for basic health care
(p.187). But this effort was not only defeated time and time again, but it was constantly shoved
under the rug. It was not until a great effort was pushed by President Obama that we started to
see some changes in our health care system. Still a lot of work needs to be done, especially for
our children. Stronger measures must be implemented to make sure that every child has an
opportunity to live a long and healthy life. This is especially geared towards children living in
rural areas, where access to

The Criminal Justice System Deals With The Risk And...
Critically evaluate the ways in which the criminal justice system deals with the risk and
management of sex offenders. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), from
December 2013 to December 2014, the amount of recorded sexual offences has risen by 32
percent to 80,262 for England and Wales (ONS, 2015:13). The most serious cases of sex
offending will result in a custodial sentence. From 2005 to 2011 the proportion of offenders who
received a custodial sentence for committing sexual offences is between 55 and 59 percent (ibid,
41). Custody is an immediate way of protecting the public from the future risks posed by a serious
sexual offender. However, at some point of the offender s custodial sentence, it is likely that they
will be granted their right to parole; and eventually will be released into the community.
Furthermore, the less serious sexual offenders who receive suspended sentences, community
sentences, or fines are also dealt with in the community and therefore put the public at immediate
risk of harm. Although the risks can never be fully eliminated, it is extremely important that the
amount of risk imposed on society is kept to a minimum (Harrison, 2011:78). This essay will focus
on the Violent and Sex Offenders Register (ViSOR) and Multi Agency Public Protection

Burger King s Successful Fast Food Restaurants
Burger King is one of the most successful fast food restaurants in the world. Burger King has been
very effective in applying their strategic vision and mission statement to build their brand. The
leadership team has positioned Burger King for a path of continued domestic and international
growth, because of a strong brand recognition and quality products. Burger Kinguses two generic
strategies to deal with competition, they are differentiation and cost leadership. Cost leadership
within Burger King is essential to minimize costs. This allows Burger King to control margins and
operating costs. For Burger King to offer such competitive prices, they have to reduce operating
costs, but at the same time they need to provide a quality product that the customers want. Burger
King also uses a differentiation strategy. A good example would be the way they grill their
products and the specific techniques they use for products such as the Whopper . The marketing
teams has also formed slogans such as Have It Your Way and the most current slogan Be Your Way
. These slogans attempt to form a differentiation pattern in the consumer s minds. These marketing
slogans are also used to attract new customers especially in the competitive market such as the fast
food market. These techniques have allowed Burger King to reach out to new and current customers.

Monosaccharides, disaccharides, or polysaccharide. The purpose for known carbohydrates is to
know how to determine which sugar is either a monosaccharide, disaccharide, or polysaccharide by
combining the mixture with either benedict or iodine solution. The purpose for unknown
substances is to test different products to determine which kind of carbohydrates they contain. The
experimental data shows that after testing everyday foods, after soaking the food in water and
adding benedict solution and iodine solution data shows how the product reacted. If there was a

impulses dominate the desire to decrease the number of reoffending juveniles. The first is a
compassionate approach that concentrates on treating the youth whereas the second approach uses
punishment to protect their focus, which is community safety (Artello, Hayes, Muschert, Spencer,
2015). It is important to note that not all individuals are impacted in the same way therefore many
approaches aimed towards assisting the youth within the justice system exist. Due to the
Progressive Era Reform, the state has the ability and responsibility to protect the welfare of children
leading to treatment that hopefully divert them from continuously... Show more content on

In order to collect data a four part procedure was established. First, a baseline interview were
conducted to collect information such as demographics, socioeconomic status, use of mental health,
substance abuse, psychiatric symptomatology, level of substance use and quality of life (Steadman,
Cocozza, Veysey, 1999). Secondly, a follow up interview consisted of the same information
gathering as the baseline interview two months after diversion or booking. The purpose of the
interview was to determine if the individual had the initiative of attending initial appointment, the
system was able to locate the subject, and elapsed time was enough for significant measures

Essay about Graduation Speech
Ah, life eh? Hello Class of 2012.
There are so many things to say to you. I feel so privileged to get to speak to everyone, and there
is so much to say. We have come to this point in our lives that many have come to before us. I
almost feel like I have done it already, having watched people grow up and graduate before. But
now today it is our turn to really do it. To walk this aisle, to sit in the seats, and to play with these
tassels.
It seems like so long ago and it seems like just yesterday, those perils of adolescence. Brier

and choirs. Some have put their talents to work and gotten the lead in our school plays or been
put in charge backstage making entire musicals go smoothly. All of the clubs at school have had
students from our class named as presidents, editors or producers. Our class every year has had its

How To Start A Fire Department Essay
STUDENT SAMPLE ESSAY
Tamms Fire Department
What is a Volunteer Fire Department? A Volunteer Fire Department is composed of volunteers
who will perform fire suppression or other related emergency services for a local jurisdiction.
People should volunteer because people can save lives and they can save the houses from
completely burning down to the ground. People can help the community by showing up to training
nights and meetings to see what it is like to be on a fire department. Volunteer firefighters are
needed because they will need people to operate the pumps and going into a burning building to
save a elderly s life or even a dog s life. Fire Departments are good for the community especially
for a small town like Tamms, Illinois. Volunteer Fire Departments need more funding especially for

A Speech On My First Lecture
President Pitzer, Mr. Vice President, Governor, Congressman Thomas, Senator Wiley, and
Congressman Miller, Mr. Webb, Mr. Bell, scientists, distinguished guests, and ladies and
gentlemen: I appreciate your president having made me an honorary visiting professor, and I
will assure you that my first lecture will be very brief. I am delighted to be here, and I m
particularly delighted to be here on this occasion. We meet at a college noted for knowledge, in
a city noted for progress, in a State noted for strength, and we stand in need of all three, for we
meet in an hour of change and challenge, in a decade of hope and fear, in an age of both
knowledge and ignorance. The greater our knowledge increases, the greater our ignorance
unfolds. Despite the striking fact that most of the scientists that the world has ever known are
alive and working today, despite the fact that this NationВ№s own scientific manpower is
doubling every 12 years in a rate of growth more than three times that of our population as a
whole, despite that, the vast stretches of the unknown and the unanswered and the unfinished still
far outstrip our collective comprehension. No man can fully grasp how far and how fast we have
come, but condense, if you will, the 50,000 years of manВ№s recorded history in a time span of
but a half century. Stated in these terms, we know very little about the first 40 years, except at the
end of them advanced man had learned to use the skins of animals to cover them. Then

Impact Of Global Capitalism On The World Economy
Although there is no single theory to explain the spatial organisation of production regions in the
world economy, we continue to see core periphery patterns and concentrations of activities in
specific areas despite powerful forces of globalisation expanding markets and integrating economies.
This has created a huge globally expansive network of information, capital and technical flows
across regions facilitated through market liberalization, border reductions between countries and the
erosion of particular places. The presence of economies of scale, scope and agglomeration play
significant roles in explaining the concentration and development of economic activity in particular
areas. These forces of concentration and dispersal even in the context of the expanding territorial
scope of global capitalism, still remain powerful and we continue to observe the importance of place
under globalisation (Massey 1984). Although natural environmental conditions are influential in the
development of regions, capitalism is the dominant form of contemporary economic organisation
due to historical geography. Indeed, the capitalist word economy is structured around the dynamics
of specialisation and the division of labour, whereby countries produce and trade goods and
services where they obtain comparative, competitive advantage and lowest opportunity cost. In a
capitalist economy specialisation (the act of focusing on a specific work task) leads to higher
productivity, output and product

Essay On Anselm s Ontological Argument
Ontological Argument
Anselm s ontological argument states that: We define God as the greatest of all conceived beings.
A being that is necessary is greater than a being that is not necessary.
If God exists as an idea, but not in reality, then we can imagine something greater than Him.
If God is a perfect being, we cannot imagine a being greater than Him.
Thus, if God exists in the mind as an idea, then God necessarily exists in reality.
In Anselm s argument, necessary existence means that the existence of something is not dependent
on any other being. For God to have necessary existence, then his existence is not dependent on
anything. In nature, almost every living being is dependent on something such as a parent. Thus,
making God the only being to have necessary existence.
However, there are many reasons that the ontological argument can be deemed invalid. It
equivocates between different frames of reference. Nothing greater that can be thought is not the
same as nothing greater than can exist. This argument only really shows that the greatest thing to
exist in reality will always be greater than its imaginary counterpart, which is not true as anything
that exists in reality is more susceptible to flaws, but a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Persuasive Essay On Older Adults
In today s society, the older adults are often left behind and forgotten about. Society is often less
concerned about this population when they should be more concerned. As discussed above, as
some transition into later life, it is almost like they are entering a new world that they must
readjust to. They have to get comfortable in their new living environment, sometimes without their
spouse and with fewer friends and family members around. As a society, if we don t start
monitoring this population, the high rates will continue to rise and more older adults will
continue to self harm which will lead to a huge social justice matter. In order to advocate for this
population, we must first educate those who are not aware. I think it would be beneficial to start
small programs or fairs throughout different communities where families can be educated on
exactly what to look for and how they can care more for their older adultfamily members. In order
to make this possible, resources are need. Educators, physicians and social workers can all come
together to provide the necessary curriculum to those being educated. Certain policies should also
be in place that will prevent the misuse of prescription drugs. Instead of quickly responding to
chronic painwith medicine, maybe other things should be in place such as physical therapy or
natural herbs, to help those individuals work through their pain. As older adults visit health care
more often, physicians should take time for screening

How The Eustace Diamonds Changes Representations of Femininity in Vanity Fair
Since Anthony Trollope published The Eustace Diamonds (1872), readers have associated Lizzie
Eustace with Becky Sharp of William Makepeace Thackeray s Vanity Fair (1848) (John Hall 378).
Both Becky and Lizzie perform a femininity made all the more dangerous by contrast to the
femininity of their idealized counterparts, Amelia and Lucy. Both novels involve a man s choice
between satisfying his sexual desire for the dangerous girl and fulfilling his promise to the ideal
girl. As is typical in Victorian novels, the narrators spend more time exploring the bad girl option
than the less exciting alternative. In the context of denying the novel s focus on ... Show more

Becky and Amelia s values are determined by their similarities to Miss Swartz, and they both
reflect aspects of what Miss Swartz represents; they are not true opposites. These three female
characters, then, form a continuum of moral corruption. Lucinda Roanoke, Trollope s woman from
abroad, has a dangerous interiority that makes her much more than a representation. The
implications of her interiority create the need for Lucy to be a truly good girl. This change from
seeming good to being good creates a true dichotomy between Lucy and Lizzie. This shift in how
femininity is valued is both literary and historical. In Gender and the Victorian Novel, Nancy
Armstrong has described a historical shift during the nineteenth century in conceptualizing the
dangers of reproduction from the danger of overpopulation earlier in the century to the danger of
degeneration at its end. For Armstrong, this shift coincides with a development in literature that
presents the struggle between femaleness and femininity (110). Lizzie and Lucy represent this
struggle between traditional femininity (Lucy) and female nature (Lizzie) (108). What I would
like to add to this argument is an account of the role Lucinda Roanoke plays in the struggle. As a
figure both racialized and savage, Lucinda seems to represent the possibility of degeneracy directly.

A Young Woman s Fantasy in The Turn of the Screw Essay
A Young Woman s Fantasy in The Turn of the Screw
The Turn of the Screw, by Henry James, is an odd story about a young woman who, leaving her
small country home for the first time, takes a job as a governess in a wealthy household. Shortly
after her arrival, she begins to suffer from insomnia and fancies that she sees ghosts roaming about
the grounds. James is a master story teller and, at times, the complexities of the story make it
difficult to follow. The Turn of the Screw is a story within a story, the tale of the governessbeing
read aloud as a ghost story among friends. Harold C. Goddard wrote a fascinating piece of criticism
entitled A Pre Freudian Reading of The Turn of the Screw. When applied to the book, his... Show

She is very excited at this point and one might infer that she is infatuated with her employer.
However, all her hopes of a relationship are unrealistic, as there is a vast difference in class
between herself and the man from Harley Street. Furthermore, her employer gives her strict
instructions [t]hat she should never trouble him (6). So we see that she is never to communicate
with the object of her affections again. At the end of her interview, after she agreed to these
stipulations, we are told that when ...he held her hand, thanking her for the sacrifice, she already
felt rewarded (6). This description proves that the new governess is in love with her employer.
Later in the book, during her first encounter with the ghost of Peter Quint, it is clear that she is
thinking of her love as she says that her first shock at seeing a man in the tower was that it was
not the person [she] had precipitately supposed it would be (15). It is clear that she was hoping it
would be the man from Harley Street.
According to Goddard s theory, the ghosts of Peter Quint and Miss Jessel are images conjured up
in the mind of the unstable, young governess. Goddard addresses this issue accordingly. To the
reader, this may seem like a strange notion because the governess is able to give a description of
the ghosts that seems eerily accurate, even though she never saw them before. In the case of Peter
Quint, the only distinguishing characteristic about her

The following deterioration started with the Stamp Act in 1765, an Act of the Parliament of Great
Britain, which imposed a minor taxation of official seals and stamps, legal documents and
newspapers for its main purpose of generating a suffice amount of revenue to compensate for the
expensive Seven Years War. But, the British Parliament took advantage of the inaugurated act and
decided to tax the colonists without their authorization. This unauthorized act resulted in the
colonists opposition and argument that they are being forcibly taxed without representation, which
later led to the sentiment of fear rising within the colonies. Because the colonists apprehension of
taxes ascending, rebellious acts such as widespread protests, economic boycotts, street
demonstrations/violence, and formation of petitions prompted due to the fact that the colonists
were unable to spontaneously express in the British Parliament. In 1766, the British Parliament
responded to colonists insubordinate movements and repealed the Stamp Act. But in 1767, the
British Parliament was determined to collect revenue, therefore, they retried by passing another
Parliament Act called the Townshend Act. The Townshend Acts were a small tax on specific items
such as sugar, glass, and tea. In spite of this, colonists resorted to widespread economic boycotting,
causing British collected taxes to drop what is now worth roughly about eight million dollars and
British businesses to lose today s worth of approximately three hundred million dollars, nearly
bankrupting England. With the Townshend Act set up, it permitted the Parliament to send troops to
the colonies in order to prevent repeated violence and avoid colony riots, street demonstrations,
protests, and attacks. Yet,

Morality and God
Can a person be moral and not believe in God

PHI 103 Informal Logic

Morality only exists if we believe in God; therefore if God doesn t exist there is no morality. There
have been so many evil acts committed in the name of God that it is difficult to maintain that a
belief in God equates to morality. There are situations that happen every day where decisions are
made based off of human rights that contradict the word of God. Morality comes from within, it
is an understanding of right versus wrong and the ability to choose what is right. Knowing all this
a belief in God is not a requirement for a person to be moral. (Mosser, 2011)

If you do not fear the wrath of God, there is nothing to stop you from committing immoral acts,
or any crimes for that matter. Any situation can be overlooked because there is no fear of
punishment without a fear of God. Only a person with a firm belief in God can be considered
moral because they fear His punishment and desire his reward. God is the only person great
enough to enforce moral standards, without his guidance there can be no binding morals. Moral
standards come from God and without Him a person cannot be moral.
When we talk in absolutes we ignore possibilities that exist outside of our beliefs. There are many
examples of individuals that believed in God who acted immorally, as well as examples of people
who do not believe in God acting with good morals. Their beliefs do not determine their morality,
their acts do. If we are to base morality solely on a belief in God then which believer do we follow?
Do we follow the believer who commits crimes, or only the believer who is an upstanding member
of society?

  • 2. Disruptive Mood Disorder Analysis As described in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM 5), disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD) is a new diagnosis characterized by chronic irritability that requires clinical attention. Averna, D Agati, Vicari (2016) emphasize that the prevalence of this type of disorder ranges from 0.8% to 3.3% with higher rates in preschool age children (as cited in Copeland et al. 2013) p.149. Mulraney et al.(2016) state that the child who received diagnosis of DMDD experiences symptoms such as irritable/angry mood almost everyday, severe temper outburst for an average of more than three times per week, and has difficulty functioning at multiple settings which includes home, school, and with peers. The symptoms must... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aripiprazole is a type of atypical antipsychotics that approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat irritability, conduct disorder as well as autism in young patients between 6 to 17 years old. According to Averna, D Agati, Vicari (2016), aripiprazole has an exclusive mechanism of action such as having a combination of partial agonism at the D2 and 5 HT1A receptors and antagonism at the 5 HT2A receptor. For that reason, it leads them to hypothesize the existence of a possible dose effect relationship of aripiprazole in the treatment of DMDD (pp.149 150). The most common side effects of aripiprazole/abilify are nausea, headaches, abdominal pain, heartburn, and the serious side effects are irregular heart beat, tightening of neck muscles and throat, chest pain, confusion and etc. Since the symptoms of DMDD are more related in the pathophysiology to children with depression, ADHD, and anxiety disorders, the risks for mania is subsided. Therefore, the acceptable choices would be selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and CNS stimulants. In preliminary evidence proposes that youth with ADHD and DMDD or with ADHD and repeated aggression respond positively to CNS stimulants with slight risk of manic activation/adverse emotional effects ... • 3. Literary Analysis Of A Tree Grows In Brooklyn The Everlasting Tree An American classic is a novel that has beautiful language, complex characters that change throughout the novel and is timeless. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn does just that. Betty Smith, author of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, wrote this novel about a young girl s coming of age during the early 1900 s. Smith wanted to publish a novelthat showed the American Dream and the struggles of being poor in America. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is considered an American classic because of its connection to the American Dream, how the hardships of being poor prevented attaining that dream and the impact of Francie being a woman with the injustices she faced. Betty Smith was a German immigrant that lived in Williamsburg Brooklyn, New York (Johnson). She was a play writer and a novelist at a young age (Johnson) . Smith began her writing career at Ann Arbor and her playwriting career at the Yale School of Drama (Johnson). Her move to North Carolina to become a part of the WPA Federal Theater Project kick started her career as a play writer (Johnson). Her novel, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, was written over a period of a few years and was based on her own life (Johnson). As soon as it was published in 1943 it became a bestseller instantly and many saw Smith as a major component of literacy in the 1940 s (Johnson). The stress of her overnight success put a considerable amount of pressure on her to write consimore novels (Johnson). She settled in Chapel Hill, NC where she later ... • 4. Pollution and Environment Essay A Modest Proposal for Methanol and Ethanol Powered Cars We need more stringent regulations on car emissions... Let s add MTBE to the fuel that will reduce pollution... If people would just stop driving so much, pollution wouldn t be so bad... People have long recognized the problems with the gasoline we used now. We have tried everything from putting regulations on emissions, to putting additives in the gasoline (only to discover later that MTBE got into the groundwater), to campaigns to get people off the road. However, more and more cars are on the roads as the population increases, and people are not going to stop driving. Additives are as likely to cause problems as they are to prevent them. Just changing the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To help protect the environment, our health, and our economic independence, the government should use all the revenues from the taxes on dirty fossil fuels to subsidize research and the production of alcohol burning cars. Problems with Cleaner Fuel Of course there are reasons why we have not converted to alcohol burning vehicles before. Ethanol costs more per gallon than gasoline. However, new technologies have the potential to produce ethanol at significantly smaller costs. Methanol, a high performance liquid fuel made from wood or coal, can be produced at prices comparable to the prices of gasoline and natural gas. In addition, oil does not occur naturally in unlimited supply, and just in the past few years, gas prices have been increasing dramatically. Those prices will not fall back down. However, the introduction of an inexpensive alcohol based fuel would provide an alternative means of power and give consumers more choices. Some people argue that decreasing the oil we use would harm the economies of countries like Venezuela that depend on America buying their oil. However, as third world countries grow and develop, they will also need fuel sources and the United States has no right to monopolize large portions of the available resources. Besides, it is not the responsibility of the United States to provide markets for all companies in the world. Markets come and go, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Classifying and Treating a Fracture of a Bone A fracture is a break or disruption in the continuity of the bone that often affects mobility and sensation. It can occur anywhere in the body and at any age (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144). All fractures follow the same mechanism and require similar care regardless of type or location. (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144) A fracture is classified by the severity of the break being either complete or incomplete fractures: A complete fracture is a break along the width of the bone resulting in the bone being separated into two sections. An incomplete fracture is a fracture that does not result in the separation of bone because the break is only partially through the bone. (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144) A closed (simple) fracture does not cause injury to the skin and, therefore, does not have any noticeable wound. This type of fracture still needs to be managed by stabilization of the bone and realignment if necessary. Open fractures are ones in which a portion of the bone breaks through the skin or a wound penetrates through to a fractured bone (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, 2011). Open fractures frequently involve more damage to surrounding tendons, ligaments, and muscles than in a closed fractures. They take a longer time to heal and are at increased risk for complications (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, 2011). Open fractures represent a range of injury: first, the basic underlying problem of the fracture; second, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Hoosier Hysteria Hoosier Hysteria; this phrase brings together families and friends together to watch college basketball history season after season. Indiana University has been one of the top known and stunningly successful team for over sixty years. Although Indiana has been spotty in between some coaches there are certain coaches that have put IU on the record books. Ranking number one in the nation for weeks and weeks the hoosiers are undeniably one of the bests. Through various coaching methods and philosophies, four coaches stood out changed the Indiana basketballprogram immensely Firstly, Branch McCracken, the coach of the 1938 to 1943 and also 1946 to 1965 Indiana Hoosier, was one of the top 3 coaches statistically scoring teams in IU basketball. With both seasoned combined he saw a great record of 364 174. During his intermission between the two times that he coached McCracken served in the United States Army for World War 2. Coaching Indiana he lead them to have six perfect seasons which averaged around 24 0. The Hoosiers were unstoppable and they went all the way to win a NCAA title and 20 wins, which at the time was the record. This win put him in the record books as the youngest coach ever to win a NCAA tournament. The 20 3 record would not again be beat for thirteen years until broken by Indiana again (Pfeiffer). • 7. Wild Vs Animal Captivity There are numerous different types of animals in the world. Coming from amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and birds. All of these animals are born to run free and hunt without relying on a human. Sadly, things aren t the way it s supposed to be. There are other animals who are taken away from their home and are locked up in cramped spaces; in other words, the zoo. The zoo may seem like an enjoyable activity for children, but many do not know the half of what goes on behind the glass window. Animals wish they can be free and end the nightmare of being captive. Even though both animals that lie in the wild and animal captivity are one, in the group of animals, there are many differences between them. The first difference is that animals that are kept in the zoo are dependent on humans, but wild animals are independent and self reliant. The animalsthat live indoors are given food by their caretaker, supplies and are basically babied daily. An example is a chimpanzee that has grown up in captivity, they do not have the opportunities to learn from their distant relatives because they are adapted to human ways. On the other hand, wild female chimps acquire their nurturing skills from their mothers and other relatives in their group. Therefore, wild animals are independent and can live in natural habitats without human interaction. The second difference is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. Diverse Cultures And Various Political Systems Fuel The... Diverse cultures and various political systems fuel the complicated relationship between states, making international cooperation a relevant topic of discussion. Political scientists use these discussions to come up with theories that can predict different levels of cooperation, the likelihood that collaboration might occur and what sorts of conditions are necessary to promote higher levels of cooperation between states. Neorealists and neoliberals have developed opposing theories on this topic. Neorealists focus on explaining the anarchic structure of the world to place emphasis on the permanence of conflict. They believe that states should primarily focus on securing survival and security through an economic and military build up. On the other hand, according to Essentials of International Relations, neoliberals view the world as anarchic and individual states as self interested, but draw different conclusions about statebehavior than neorealists, predicting that they are more likely to cooperate due to the influence of institutions (Mingst and Arreguin Toft, 117). Neoliberals aim to bring about security and survival while promoting economic gains and believe that cooperation is achievable if states share common interests. In this paper I am going to explain in what ways neoliberalism is more likely promote cooperation in the international system, than neorealism. While neoliberals do not deny the anarchic nature of the international system, they do however believe its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Once inverted, built up gas was released by turning the stopcock to its opened and closed positions. This was repeated for about four times in one minute intervals. Then the layers were allowed to settle until a separation between liquids could be observed. Due to the low density of the product, the top layer was to be extracted. The bottom layer was carefully and slowly extracted out of the separatory funnel. The crude product was washed by taking the reaction product in the separatory funnel and adding 23 mL of deionized H2O. The mixture was shaken and allowed to settle until layers were observable. The top layer was the desired product and approximately 25 mL of aqueous layer was extracted from the separatory funnel. Next, 25 mL of 5% NaHCO3 was added to the separatory funnel in order to neutralize the acid. This mixture was swirled, plugged with the stopper and inverted. Built up gas was released by turning the stopcock to its opened and closed positions, releasing CO2 by product. This was done four times in one minute intervals. The solution was allowed to settle until layers were observable. The bottom layer that contained salt, base and water was extracted from the separatory funnel. • 10. Life Of Pi Science Vs Religion Yann Martel s Life of Pi is the story of a young man who survives a painful, terrifying shipwreck and months in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. The book describes Piscine (Pi) Patel s life and harrowing journeys after the shipwreck that took the lives of many people immigrating to Canada, including his own mother and countless animals from the family s zoo. Pi must survive on a small lifeboat with a hungry predator. This journey of 227 days changes the way he sees the world, and it just might change the reader s view too. This is a novelthat will make you believe in God. New York Times Faith and science, two vastly different perspectives on the world, coexist throughout the book in a delicate balance. This novel of literary merit is filled with wonder. It has an aspect of purity that shows off a fresh look at our human traits, about religious topics, zoos and the wild, and the possibility of freedom. This organization also aims to provide high quality primary care to patients as well as to teach young doctors through the Family Medicine Residency program. All these goals are important, however, conflicting as well. Making a profit in FCS is necessary because only when FCS maintain a generally positive profitability, can it afford to pay higher for its staff and fund major capital investments in facilities and technology. However, the other goals of FCS such as, education, quality of care and patient satisfaction seem that they have less or even no direct contribution to the revenue of FCS. • 12. The Charismatic Leadership Of Preston Tucker This reflection essay is meant to examine the various aspects of the charismatic leadership of Preston Tucker in the movie Tucker. Tucker is a movie about Preston Tucker s endeavor to create an advanced car for Post World War II America. Preston Tucker s vision of this futuristic car includes revolutionary features such as seatbelts, pop out windshields, and an engine in the rear rather than the front of the car. Preston is able to build this car (and his company) from the ground up by inspiring and empowering his followers to meet endless challenges. Preston Tucker s charismatic leadershipwill be examined by examining his leadership style, vision, and how he empowered his followers. First, Preston Tucker is an extremely charismatic leader. His charismais derived from his confidence in his vision and followers. He is passionate and refuses to accept failure, often having huge expectations for his followers (this is shown often throughout the film when Preston Tucker gets upset with his design team for claiming to not be able to complete the task). His confidence in his vision and followers is displayed multiple times in the film. On one occasion, his lead designer tries explaining to him that the current headlight design will not work and that it will be dangerous to anyone driving. Although Tucker will fight tooth and nail for the vision of his car, he has enough confidence in his followers to trusthis designer in what he is saying. Preston Tucker is able ... The foundations of the International Typographic Style can be traced to two art schools, the Zurich School of the Applied Arts and the School of Design in Basel, who taught a curriculum in which form follows function. The 1950s saw a boom of the International style when it was epitomized with the creation of several new san serif type families. The geometric fonts on the 1920s and 30s was rejected in favor of designs inspired by Akzidenz Grotesk fonts. Two fonts would soon take the world by storm. In 1954 a Swiss designer working in Paris by the name of Adrian Frutiger created a family of 21 san serif fonts which he named, Univers. At the same time, back in Switzerland Edouard Hoffman of the Haas type foundry in Switzerland felt that the Akzidenz Grtotesk fonts should be refined and upgraded. Hoffman had been waiting for the right moment to release a new typeface and in 1956 he contacted Max Miedinger, who had worked with him at Haas and had since branched out as a freelance consultant and designer to help create the new typeface for Haas. • 15. A Brief Note On Physician Assisted Suicide ( Pas ) Physician assisted suicide (PAS) has fueled a lot of debate ever since it was first legalized in Oregon in 1997. PAS is when a doctor prescribes a medication that the patient can use to end their life. Washington legalized PAS in March of 2009, but only saw 255 individuals in 2012 who acquired the medication necessary to end their life from their doctor, resulting in only 24 of those patients using the prescription (McBride 45). It is debatable whether or not PAS should be seen as the equivalent to the suicidethat we have labeled as immoral and have tried to prevent while others also question whether PAS is a reasonable solution to the sufferingthat terminally ill patients are inevitably being put through. I believe PAS should not be legalized in any other state and should, therefore, become illegal in the four states which now allow it and instead train their doctors to provide better palliative care for their patients. To begin, individuals who agree with PAS support their argument by focusing on the suffering that the patient would no longer have to go through. Supporters have called it the right to die movement and are concentrating on informing the public that people who are suffering due to their terminal illness have the right to die and would have, what they have deemed as, a deathwith dignity (Lachman 121). PAS has gained names which reflect it in a positive light such as right to die, good death, rational suicide, aid in dying, and merciful release ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Analysis Of Chaim Potok s The Chosen, Verbal... Since the beginning of time, humans have endeavored to express their thoughts to other humans. Early on, humans may have expressed their thoughts through only body language and primitive grunts; however, as civilization progressed, humans developed intelligible language. From development of that early language, written language was sprouted. From some development of that written language, other forms of communication came into being. Today, many forms of communication exist; however, all of them center around verbal communication. In Chaim Potok s critically acclaimed novel, The Chosen, verbal communication, or the lack thereof, is a main theme. The lack of communication, silence, in The Chosen is used by Potok not only to show the suffering of his characters but also to symbolize the struggles of the Jewish people. Potok uses silence prominently in The Chosen to show isolation. Both of the protagonists in the book experience an isolating silence; for example, the silence imposed upon Danny is a main component of the novel s plot. Danny s pain and isolation is caused by his father s silence toward him. Reb Saunders, Danny s father, doesn t speak with Danny because he believes that being silent toward Danny is what is best for him; however, the other characters of the book see only that the silence causes Danny suffering. Reb s silence toward Danny would seem cruel in a normal situation, but in Danny s situation, it seems to be atrocious. In the forties, being a Jew ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Example Of Heroism In Beowulf Question four Beowulf is determined as a hero in my eyes, throughout the brave and heroic attributes that he had undertaken within this poem. When defining a hero in our first week of class, we had come up with the idea that a hero is someone who is: selfless, has strength, sacrifices everything that they have for the greater good and shows confidence. Beowulf has shown all of these attributes beginning with being selfless. Beowulf came to the Danes because he knew that he needed to not only keep his kingdom safe, but surrounding kingdoms. Beowulf s heroism was defined on these next couple of lines. On line 193, There was no one else like him alive. In his day, he was the mightiest man on earth, high born and powerful. He ordered a boat that would ply the waves. He announced his plan (Heaney, 15, 193 196). Beowulf knew the dangers that fighting this demon could bring, but he sacrificed everything he had. If Beowulf would have lost the battle, his Kingdom (Geats) would have been left with nothing and Hrothgars kingdom would still be under attack. Beowulf also shows his strength throughout the poem. When Beowulf arrives at the Danes, he shows no fear. Beowulf speaks with Hrothgar to learn what is true about his threat. Beowulf speaks giving the Danes much hope, line 294 whatever it is, this danger abroad in the dark nights, I come to proffer my wholehearted help and counsel (Heaney, 21, 294 298). Beowulf is a hero and a leader, even if we look at him within modern times. Beowulf shows cause and reason to why he is at the Danes, he creates leadership upon his men and he has shown devotion towards this cause of wanting to defeat Grendal the demon in the poem. Every move Beowulf takes in this poem is what I believe we would want in the modern times of war. We want a leader that will be able to take charge and follow through with the actions they speak upon. In modern time, we also want a leader that protects our land and has their best opinion out for their Country. We want a leader like Beowulf. There is times that as a reader one could think that he is only completing these heroic attributes to uphold his overall reputation of himself, but isn t that everyone s main goal when completing a monumental task? ... • 24. Bartleby Underground Man Analysis Throughout literature, the theme of alienation has held various personas that have been viewed in different ways. Since the 1980s the rate of adults who consider themselves isolated has doubled (Morning Shift). Learning this led me to believe that an isolated individual like Bartleby and the Underground Man are more relatable to us now. Alienation can be romanticised to an extent due to the mysteriousness a character can hold because he is an unknown. Humans find that which they cannot have the most appealing whether it be a candy bar, or allow interaction with an individual. Two of the biggest examples of alienation I have seen thus far is Bartleby and the Underground Man. Both quite odd in their own ways, but isolated nonetheless, and both by choice. Even though the two characters had their similarities they were also quite different. For example, the Underground Man while isolated at least made attempts throughout his lifetime to not be. Bartleby, however, slowly became more and more isolated as the story went on. To start off let s discuss the Lawyer from Bartleby, the relationship the Lawyer shared with his subordinates could be identified as a Marx capitalist alienation. As theorized by Marx, alienation in the workplace is a fourfold process that involves the object being produced, the process of production, the employee, and his coworkers (Bancroft). For Bartleby, his products were copies he made for the Lawyer, and the process was the copying he did. From what I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Keep in mind the farther you drive on a flat tire, the more damage you will incur to the tire and wheel. Secondly, set the parking brake so that the car does not roll away while the car is off the ground. Once the jack is raised enough to just touch the car; position the jack so that it is not tilted; furthermore, make sure the jack is 6 12 inches behind the front or rear of the tire. When you are sure the jack is in position correctly; proceed by raising the jack, so that the car will rise off the ground. Antibiotics contain compounds that are naturally produced by organisms to combat diseases caused by microbes. Discovery of penicillin by Sir Alexander Fleming became the first stepping stone of many new antibiotics of today s modern medicine. Antibiotics typically invade the very components that make up bacteria, such as cell walls and metabolic pathways (Sato et al., 2014). Gram positive effective antibiotics and protein synthesis inhibitors such as azithromycin and tetracycline were expected to be ineffective to Gram negative bacteria, along with DNA dependent RNA polymerase inhibitor such as rifampin. However, contrasting results were depicted after 48 hours of incubation at 37вЃ°C. The bacteria appeared to be susceptible to azithromycin when the bacteria were anticipated to be resistant. This discrepancy could be explained through the molecular mechanism of azithromycin. Azithromycin induces adenine methylation in the rRNA in the 50S ribosomal subunit, and past experiments have indicated that it has a higher affinity for the erythromycin binding site for the ribosome to cause azithromycin to be more susceptible in Gram negative bacteria (Retsema et al., 1987). In addition, a polypeptide inhibitor such as penicillin was anticipated to be susceptible to the Gram negative bacteria, but it was displayed to be resistant. Penicillin is known to be a ОІ lactam antibiotic consisting of ОІ lactam ring that inhibits the cell wall synthesis of Enterobacteriaceae. A prevalent mechanism for resistance to ОІ lactam antibiotic is hyperproduction of ОІ lactamase (Philippon et al., 2002). (The Lancet; October 2003, Wharton, Bishop) Rickets occurs when the ossification process where cartilage is transformed into bone does not occur which results in the softening of the bone at the end. Soft bones are due to the lack of the ossification process taking place correctly, where the bone is hardened. • 33. Health Care For The Uninsured Children Quality Health Care for the Uninsured children in the United States in comparison to Health Care for children in Canada. Introduction: In the U.S. Decreasing the number of uninsured is the number one goal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which provides Medicaid coverage to many low income individuals (The Kaiser Family Foundation, 2015, Introduction section). Despite the success of the ACA enrollment of millions of people with health insurance, the most at risk and pressing group of our population is the children. This is a group that needs our attention and their health should be the country s number one priority. This is a vast difference from Canada, where every child has health care coverage for life because of its Universal Health Care. Bodenheimer and Grumbach (2013) noted that over the years, reformers in the United States argued for the passage of a national health insurance program, government s guarantee that every person is insured for basic health care (p.187). But this effort was not only defeated time and time again, but it was constantly shoved under the rug. It was not until a great effort was pushed by President Obama that we started to see some changes in our health care system. Still a lot of work needs to be done, especially for our children. Stronger measures must be implemented to make sure that every child has an opportunity to live a long and healthy life. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), from December 2013 to December 2014, the amount of recorded sexual offences has risen by 32 percent to 80,262 for England and Wales (ONS, 2015:13). The most serious cases of sex offending will result in a custodial sentence. From 2005 to 2011 the proportion of offenders who received a custodial sentence for committing sexual offences is between 55 and 59 percent (ibid, 41). Custody is an immediate way of protecting the public from the future risks posed by a serious sexual offender. However, at some point of the offender s custodial sentence, it is likely that they will be granted their right to parole; and eventually will be released into the community. Furthermore, the less serious sexual offenders who receive suspended sentences, community sentences, or fines are also dealt with in the community and therefore put the public at immediate risk of harm. Although the risks can never be fully eliminated, it is extremely important that the amount of risk imposed on society is kept to a minimum (Harrison, 2011:78). Impact Of Global Capitalism On The World Economy Although there is no single theory to explain the spatial organisation of production regions in the world economy, we continue to see core periphery patterns and concentrations of activities in specific areas despite powerful forces of globalisation expanding markets and integrating economies. This has created a huge globally expansive network of information, capital and technical flows across regions facilitated through market liberalization, border reductions between countries and the erosion of particular places. The presence of economies of scale, scope and agglomeration play significant roles in explaining the concentration and development of economic activity in particular areas. These forces of concentration and dispersal even in the context of the expanding territorial scope of global capitalism, still remain powerful and we continue to observe the importance of place under globalisation (Massey 1984). Although natural environmental conditions are influential in the development of regions, capitalism is the dominant form of contemporary economic organisation due to historical geography. Indeed, the capitalist word economy is structured around the dynamics of specialisation and the division of labour, whereby countries produce and trade goods and services where they obtain comparative, competitive advantage and lowest opportunity cost. • 47. Essay On Anselm s Ontological Argument Ontological Argument Anselm s ontological argument states that: We define God as the greatest of all conceived beings. In Anselm s argument, necessary existence means that the existence of something is not dependent on any other being. For God to have necessary existence, then his existence is not dependent on anything. In nature, almost every living being is dependent on something such as a parent. Thus, making God the only being to have necessary existence. However, there are many reasons that the ontological argument can be deemed invalid. It equivocates between different frames of reference. Nothing greater that can be thought is not the same as nothing greater than can exist. They have to get comfortable in their new living environment, sometimes without their spouse and with fewer friends and family members around. As a society, if we don t start monitoring this population, the high rates will continue to rise and more older adults will continue to self harm which will lead to a huge social justice matter. In order to advocate for this population, we must first educate those who are not aware. How The Eustace Diamonds Changes Representations of Femininity in Vanity Fair Since Anthony Trollope published The Eustace Diamonds (1872), readers have associated Lizzie Eustace with Becky Sharp of William Makepeace Thackeray s Vanity Fair (1848) (John Hall 378). Both Becky and Lizzie perform a femininity made all the more dangerous by contrast to the femininity of their idealized counterparts, Amelia and Lucy. Both novels involve a man s choice between satisfying his sexual desire for the dangerous girl and fulfilling his promise to the ideal girl. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Becky and Amelia s values are determined by their similarities to Miss Swartz, and they both reflect aspects of what Miss Swartz represents; they are not true opposites. These three female characters, then, form a continuum of moral corruption. Lucinda Roanoke, Trollope s woman from abroad, has a dangerous interiority that makes her much more than a representation. The implications of her interiority create the need for Lucy to be a truly good girl. This change from seeming good to being good creates a true dichotomy between Lucy and Lizzie. This shift in how femininity is valued is both literary and historical. In Gender and the Victorian Novel, Nancy Armstrong has described a historical shift during the nineteenth century in conceptualizing the dangers of reproduction from the danger of overpopulation earlier in the century to the danger of degeneration at its end. For Armstrong, this shift coincides with a development in literature that presents the struggle between femaleness and femininity (110). Lizzie and Lucy represent this struggle between traditional femininity (Lucy) and female nature (Lizzie) (108). What I would like to add to this argument is an account of the role Lucinda Roanoke plays in the struggle.
