Spoken Language Discourse Essay
Language is a tool people use to communicate with others, it can be both seen and heard and it can
be standard or diverse. It is the way in which individuals share information and encompasses many
forms including written and spoken, body language and signals, visual stimuli and even the use of
electronic devices. Languagecan be spoken, written or signed and involves many facets.
According to Gee Hayes, 2011, language is influenced by both social and cultural environments,
it is often social in that it can be personalised to a group or individual and cultural whereby the
way a person speaks is relative to the rules of the society they live in and governed by the cultural
acceptances of that society.
Our language is heard when we use spoken language and requires an individual to make and
understand verbal cues and it also provides the necessity to be able code and decode both text and
non verbal cues such as gestures and facial expressions. Within society there exist many
Discourses. Discourses determine how people view language, and more importantly, how they
practise it. (Green, D, 2006, p.3) Within a Discourse there may be many discourses that are
different ways of speaking within the overarching Discourse. For example, within a school setting
you have an educational Discourse that is the language of the department of education used to set
the expected standards for the school. Within this Discourse you have many smaller discourses such
as the language used by the

activity in the shortest possible time by using smallest quantity of drug administered by the most
suitable route.
Oral drug delivery is the simplest and easiest way of administering drugs, Because of the greater
stability, smaller bulk, accurate dosage and easy production, solid oral dosages forms have many
advantages over other types of oral dosage forms. Therefore, most of the new chemical entities
(NCE) under development these days are intended to be used as a solid dosage form that originate

The accuracy or condition of slug is not too important. Only sufficient pressure to compact the
powder into uniform slugs should be used. Once slugs are produced they are reduced to
appropriate granule size for final compression by screening and milling. b) Roller compaction:
The compaction of powder by means of pressure roll can also be accomplished by a machine
called chilsonator. Unlike tablet machine, the chilsonator turns out a compacted mass in a steady
continuous flow. The powder is fed down between the rollers from the hopper which contains a
spiral auger to feed the powder into the compaction zone. Like slugs, the aggregates are screened or
milled for production into granules.[Parikh.M.,1996]

The World Power Of Iran
The series of disappointments that have harassed the growth of Iran began with a poor foundation,
its leadership and government, and has then snowballed with each coming failure and conflict,
however it is the people who choose to stand on that foundation and continue on or rebuild it. Iran,
throughout the last decade has had several shifts in how government is deployed, the indecisive tug
and pull of religiously kept sanctions or a move towards further westernization, and the
maintenance of the tight control on its population to maintain diplomatic control. The direction of
Iranto become a world power is seen through the political moves of trying to gain stronger allies,
such as the dependency of the British. Mossadegh himself regarded Britain s constitutional
monarchy as the best model for Iran s government. And yet his hatred for the British as a
malignant force in his country s affairs, and his intuition for what he regarded as the Anglo Iranian
Oil Company s essential evil, was profound. (De Bellaigue, pp. 108)
In all fairness, the British Government was a power at the time with excellent executive
leadership. Despite this, Mossadegh was right to have disgust for the British Government. Much of
the Anglo Persian Oil Company was based in Iran where the oil was extracted. Iran is an oil
goldmine. The company, which was primarily British owned, paid money to the Iranian
Government for oil that was extracted, however the profits from the taxed revenue that the

Comparing Trudeau s Polyethnic Background And Culture
Canada s identity is tremendously challenging to delineate, due to encompassing a vast population
of various cultures, traditions, and values spanning an enormous landmass. From various historical
perspectives, Canadian identity has changed over the course of the last century valuing discrete
ideologies through various time periods. Due to various government policies and acts, as well as
reformed beliefs and ideas regarding large social issues, Canadas identity has shifted and constantly
renewed its identity over the course of the past half century.
Major government policies and acts were headway into creating Canada s modern day identity. The
Immigration Act of 1976 changed Canada s perspective on immigration eligibility, and majorly
contributed towards structuring Canada s polyethnic background and culture. Prime Minister Pierre
Trudeau grew up in an extremely discriminatory climate, and believed that Canada should inherit
collective identity. Trudeau endorsed immigration to built Canada s diverse ethnic culture, and

Its creation and history brought new meaning to Canada as a nation, and defined modern day
Canada as a distinct country through one of its most important national beliefs independence.
Subsequent to the Suez Canal Crisis, Egypt s disapproval of the Canadian flag (due to enemy
British ties) caused Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson to seriously reconsider Canada s national
identity. Pearson stirred up the Great Flag Debate, that led to a divide between the English and the
French those who wanted to keep symbolic British ties, and those who wanted to separate. By
establishing a new non English, non French related flag, Canada was given discrete identification

Third Noble Truth In Hinduism
The Third Noble Truth is explains that a Hindu believer does not have to stay in that unsatisfactory
state that there were in during the third truth. The path of liberation is one stage that the believer
has to admit that life is awful and life has desire. The goal of this stage is let go of the desires that
was being held on to during the tanha stage and realizing that there is so much more to gain in the
Hinduism faith, such as seeing Buddha face again in Heaven where he now resides. Working hard
during the liberation stage and not giving up leads to the renunciation stage. Renunciation occurs
when pressure of life begins to turn for the worst and the thought of giving happens. The believer
should contemplate, investigate, and determine how

Blast Zone Ecosystem recovery of Mt Saint Helens has enlightened the scientific community
providing a journey of surprise and discovery along the way. This living laboratory (US
Department of Agriculture, 2005) is located 96 miles south of Seattle in the Gifford Pinchot
National forest. This ecosystem yields 140 inches of rain per year with temperatures ranging
from28 degrees in Jan to 59 degrees in July. Soil is made up of weathered tephra deposits;
consisting of fine ash and gravel sized rock debris. Erosion proved to be a positive process for
plants, improving their habit. Vast trees that once covered the forest are gone, as new sunlight
emerges it gave way for new species to exist. A new ecosystem had emerged since the devastation
of the eruption. Moreover, scientists have learned that the timing and season of the eruption played
an important role in the survival and re growth of the ecosystem. For example, Nocturnal animals

geologic forces and ecological succession to continue substantially unimpeded, (US Department of

country and his arguments for how America should react in his column Huddled Geniuses

wants to open the borders between Mexico and the United States, and how the American public
stands on the issues at hand. Are view s are either an aggressive get ready for battle approach or a
conviction of Who will do our dirty work?. Buchholz feel s that the economy is not dependent on

He gives many solutions to what we should do and how we should do it. The public stands in
two directions. He mentions the people who support the amnesty for illegal aliens , and the
people who are against illegal aliens being in the United states. According to United States
Department of Labor, Washington, DC, The number of unemployed persons was 8.3 million in
January and the unemployment rate was 5.6%. This makes it hard for the already unemployed to
want more people to migrate to the US because then there would be more people with out jobs or
worse. They new immigrants would take any existing jobs that were open. But yet even with this
crucial evidence Buchholz picks a bit of an unusual approach in that he doesn t try to pick one side
of the audience to relate with, but yet he proposes an entirely different answer the issue. He
suggests that Rather than attracting millions of uneducated people , we should, pry open the legal
gates to recruit many more educated, skilled people, whether from Mexico, China or Ghana. This
requested action takes away from the low skill workers jobs, therefore a solution to the job scare is
answered. Another requested action is that the programs associated with Immigration give bonus
points for people with more education and intelligence. Buchholz merit to this action, is that he

Artwork Formal Elements
Artwork is the definition of painting, drawings and artistic works. Artwork can be found

The Heart to Lion is different than the other pieces that have been mentioned. It has a free
forming flow, most of the statue is composed of a long wire and large pieces. The space is very
open and free, it is not enclosed or tight which is normally a positive space, with that being said
from all the open space that the Heart to Lion contains it is in a negative space.Similar to the
other pieces this statue has lines and shapes. The shapes are free forming shapes, they are not
dominant shapes as a circle, square or triangle would be. The shapes on the Heart to Lion are
shaped with curved lines to also show that the shapes are free forming. The lines are seen
everywhere, there are curved and bold lines, the bold lines are very obvious since it is of a
darker granted shade than the rest. The line starts off being a straight bold line, but then seems to
end up being curved into the free forming shapes. The texture of this is rough all around, the only
smooth section that is noticeable on the statue could be the flat part of the shapes or the bold
line as well. However, from the overall, sight of the piece it seems to be rough, but not too rough.
The color of this statue is different than the others mention, the color of it is a grayish tin color.
The color is well known as a mixture of black and white usually there meanings behind the those
two colors which are death and peace. Since it is heart it shows the meaning of why the artist
chose that particular color. Cumul I is a piece made by Louise Bourgeois it has some similarities
and differences to the Heart to Lion. Cumul I is a piece that is quite different than the other
sculptures. It is strongly referred to human figures once viewing the sculpture. However, it does
have a volume with an enclosed space so the space is positive, and the space around it is negative.
It has shapes of a sphere all around the top with a lay of a

Brand Positioning
. POSITIONING Suppose we are asked, who makes the best instant coffee? Next , we are asked,
who makes the next best? there can be a number of brands which are next best, but only one brand
that is the best. In a number of product categories like TVs, cars, personal computers, paints,
razorblades, soaps and so on, we have our favourite brands or marketer. The top slot achieved by
the brandin our mind is called its Positioning. It entered our mind on account of communication
through advertising, word of mouth, product performance and other factors.
Thus, Positioning is the outcome of our perceptions about the brand relative to the competing
brands.

It is defined by award winning advertising as well as by the god awful ads that have somehow
slipped through the cracks, got approved, and, not surprisingly, sank into oblivion. It is defined
by the accomplishments of your best employee the shining star in the company who can do no
wrong as well as the mishaps of the worst hire that you ever made. It is also defined by your
receptionist and the music your customers are subjected to when placed on hold. For every grand
and finely worded public statement by the CEO, the brand is also defined by derisory consumer
comments overheard in the hallway or in a chat room on the Internet. Brands are sponges for
content, for images, for fleeting feelings. They become psychological concepts held in the minds of
the public, where they may stay forever. As such you can t entirely control a brand. At best; you
only guide and influence it.
3.3.2 The Brand s Creed
The development of a branding strategy must begin with identifying the brand s (the business ) core
values. These are qualities which an organization deems most important. For instance, an
organization or business may identify its core values to include: honesty, integrity, excellent
communication, and client satisfaction.
Though these values are usually never revealed to the public, they are evident in every aspect of the
organizations business routine, from customer service, to direct marketing, to website design, to

History Of Management Consulting Can Successfully Predict...
Rapidly accelerating at a rate 10 to 15 per cent per year, a figure significantly steeper than most
industries or the GDP growth rate, the last decade of the twentieth century witnessed spectacular
growth within the management consulting industry (Armbruster and Kipping 2003). While in
1980 fewer than five consultancy firms with more than a thousand consultants existed, in 1997
there were more than 30. This denotes that 80 per cent of all consulting experience was generated
in the years between 1980 and 1997 (Sahlin Andersson and Engwall 2002). The aim of the
following essay is to evaluate whether the history of management consultingcan successfully predict
its future. The analysis will be supported with relevant case studies, which will... Show more

Despite these explanations holding true, this generalization cannot accurately predict the relative
growth of management consulting over other administrative roles. These statements suggest that
the growth in management consulting must be sensitive to exogenous changes, however this
remarkable run cannot solely be explained through economic convolutions (McKenna 2006).
Supporting sociologist Andrew Abbotts statement of professions develop when jurisdictions
become vacant , the most probable stimulus behind the fuelled growth of management consultants,
draws back to the 1930s, where the Glass Steagall Banking Act 1933 and the Securities Act 1933,
was passed to correct the evident structural problems and industry errors, which contemporaries
considered caused the stock market crash in October 1929 and the bank failures of the early 1930s
(McKenna 1995). These legislations prohibited the competing professional groups, such as lawyers,
engineers and accountants, from continuing to act as consultants (Edersheim 2004), which had an
unintended effect of fostering the immediate need for management consultants as a distinct
profession (Stacey 2010). Responding to this remarkable opportunity, young consultants such as
James McKinsey, George Armstrong, and Edwin Booz successfully institutionalized the field of
management consulting within only a few years. In

David Guetta Meaning
Titanium , by David Guetta, is a song that describes a super woman that can withstand any abuse
given to her. David Guetta is able to enhance the lyrics of this song by including several loud
breaks within this song. During these breaks, Ratliff describes how the loud bass drum beats away
all the white noise. I found it interesting how uncomfortable the white noise sounded, and I think
the song would sound terrible if this loud bass drum was taken out. Additionally, I think that if the
bass drum was taken out, the song would not contain such a double meaning. The white noise
seems to represent all the abuse put onto this woman, and the bass drum seems to be her fighting it
off. If she were truly bullet proof, she would not need to fight this... Show more content on

These preexisting sounds make this song sound alien to the music from today; as a result, the
music ends up reminding the listener of similar music from the 1960s. For instance, the drum beat
throughout the song Be My Baby hits only on the fourth beat which is primarily heard in Latin
music. This gives the beat more pull whenever the snare beat finally comes around, as opposed to
the snare being hit on the second and fourth beat. Furthermore, the castanets played throughout this
song sound very Latin. In our age of electronic music, we typically use other electronic sounds in
the background take the place of castanets. On the other hand, the background vocals sung in Be
My Baby sound like the 1960s. For example, the background singers continue to sing parts of the
chorus throughout the song a lot louder than most of the music heard today. As a result, music from
the 1960s seems to always contain a clear message that is hammered in by the repetitive backup
vocalists and the highly anticipated snare drum. This music fits within a time period, since music
continues to adapt and change to meet the tastes of its listeners. For this reason, this music sounds
alien, since our generation is very different from people in the

Irregular Warfare Changes
In 1994, in the song Survival of the Fittest, Prodigy of the group Mobb Deep famously said,
There s a war going on outside, no man is safe from . That rang true then as it does today, and
will echo for centuries to come. Though, because of evolution, you have to wonder if war
changed. Today s wars and wars of the past may appear different at first glance, but once dissected,
they have more in common than seen. All wars require reason and emotion. Also, depending on the
size of the opposition, whether it be a country, state or non state actor, it is evident the requirement
of the government, the people, and some sort of militaryalso need to be in aligned to support the
cause. With that in mind, the Marine Corps has now conducted counterinsurgency operations in the

Motion picture photography
Cinematography is a general term for the techniques of motion picture photography. In particular is
a sequence of animation and scene combine together. Most of Meryl s imaginations are in
animation to describe the bad things that happen. For example, Meryl gets off the train and
walking back to her home. She imagined the train would suddenly drop off, the car would crash on
her and the man who was playing with the dog would come to kill her. The animation allows the
audience directly sees into her imagination.
For the whole film the ending is predicted so the color was dark. It gives the audience a heavy
feeling. But at the end, after the rain, the sun comes out. The color changed, the color is bright and
hopeful. It shows the kids are jumping and playing with the water on the floor. It has a magic
movement where Nick and Meryl see each other again.
The animation is mixed amongst the live footage to great effect. It gives the film a real buzz and its
particularly graphic nature is both hilarious and disturbing.

class to work with me on a one on one level helping to try and get them caught up in spelling,
sounds and how to read, as well as math. It was amazing to see kids that were in the second
grade not knowing there sounds or being able to add and subtract math correctly. They were in
second grade on a first grade reading/math levels. I also worked in schools that had the highest
level of kids in reading and math. Why such a split? The way the school are set up, you would
actually think that the location of the schools verses the issues within the school would be flipped.
When substituting at the charter school I found out that they have a higher than average poverty
level at their school, where 73% of the children in the school receive free lunches, which is up
from 2013 at 65%. Our neighboring Twin Fallscounty school district runs at a 55% with their
charter school runs as low as 28% for free lunches. It is hard to figure out the reasons behind why
the poverty levels are so high. This is a farming community and we have a lot of migrants that come
in and work. This is an understandable issue with the kids needing to learn English, but not for the
kids that are non immigrants, but then again it

Case Study Of Robert Deal From Emory University
Robert Deal from Emory University is studying to learn about plants and their memory of stress.
When plants face dry weather, their stomata shrink to reduce water loss. When a similar situation
places the plants under stress again, the plant seems to recall this experience and recovers
quicker. Robert Deal, who studies genetics and biochemistry, hopes to utilize this trait and
pinpoint its gene. If he can locate and activate the genetic material associated with this memory,
he believes he can speed up the process and cause plants to have the gene activated at all times,
allowing the plants to withstand drier and warmer temperatures. Other researchers have been
striving for a similar goal, using the genetic material of plants to create new hybrids that can
withstand extreme weather. Across the globe, scientists have been making modified plant varieties
that can resist drought, a growing concern as climate change becomes a more prominent issue.
One hybrid has already existed since 2011 on the market. The corn plant, known as DroughtGuard,
was bred to resist drought. It contains a gene from a bacteria that allows it to produce in times of
water shortage. This corn crop has been approved... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some worry that the farmers will become dependent on corporations that produce these genetically
modified organisms. Others worry about the consumption of these modified crops and the affects
they may have on health, or that these plants may harm the ecosystem. One expert worries that the
focus on genetic tinkering draws attention away from safer methods that also provide more
produce, such as crossbreeding. However, if the efforts to create crops resistant to drought are
successful, humans will be able to resist and adapt to climate change better. While it is important to
learn to adapt to climate change, humans should also make an effort to stop and prevent it and its

Essay about Consumerism s Role in America s Economy
What is the effect of consumerism on the American economy? The father of modern economics
and capitalism, Adam Smith, maintained that ambition and acquisitiveness, two drivers of a
market economy, were merely illusions. He believed it is these illusions that compel a society to
work for what they believe will make them happy which, in turn, leads to a consumer driven
economy. Indeed, consumerism broadens a society s economy through a wider selection of goods
and services, but does it also increase the power and controls of a society s government through
consumer activism and regulation? Supporters of consumerism point out that indebtedness has long
been a part of America s history. Until the 20th century, Americans believed indebtedness

The only way to improve the practices of businesses, large and small, is through regulation and
reform. Supporters believe the current reform proposals will restrain the carelessness of business
and prevent future crises. Congressional regulation, they insist, also lifts the overall living
standards for all members of society.
Does a society benefit or suffer as a result of increased consumerism? It absolutely benefits, say
supporters. Debt drives consumer spending, which in turn helps the economy grow. When people
spend more money, businesses earn higher profits and are able to hire more workers. Consumerism
promotes the fueling of economic progress through the development of manufacturing and the rise
of living standards for all Americans and not just the wealthy.
Opponents argue that societal development suffers as consumerism and the ensuing governmental
regulations increase. They point to the fact that working class wages are stagnating and prices are
increasing. Avoiding debt has become almost impossible for most families because they don t have
enough money to survive. This inequality leads not only poverty, but also to increased levels of
consumption as consumers spend more to raise their overall standard of living.
Critics point to the fact that despite the increase in consumerism, average wages have slowed in
growth over the last three decades and have actually gone backwards for those members with less
education in America. Wage

The Model Of The American Family
For as long as I can remember, the ideal family household consisted of the male/father as the bread
winner, provider, and head of the household, and female/mother, and children as members of this
family. This image was embedded in us through our social class, our parents, our community, and
the social media. The families of today have drastically changed, and are more complex in the
familyrole. As time progresses, divorce rates are at an all time high, and single parent homes are
even higher. To top it off we can t turn on the TV or computer without seeing or hearing about gay
/lesbian marriageor states legalizing same sex marriage. Over time the idea of what the model
family was viewed as and the reality of what a model class consist of now began to clash.
American families are becoming numb or more excepting of the detrimental changes that I have
listed above, of the model African Americanfamily. Finances and infidelity are at the top of the list
of reasons why the African American family is becoming non existent.
The idea that the 1950s were the best time to raise children was based on the finances of the
middle class, but the women back then were not respected as an equal to their husband as they are
more so today.
The African American male traditionally had the patriarchy role. He was the provider, and head of
the household. That role is still ideal today, but not always possible. Due to high divorce rates, that
role changes to the African

Relationship Between Centralization And Decentralization
Does adopting Centralization guarantees rises on firms productivity?
Introduction
Centralization can be explained by that authority to make important decisions lies towards the head
or centre of an organization (Cummings, 1995), the decision making actions are usually done by
the top managers in hierarchical pyramid. While Decentralization, on the contrary, aims on raising
employee empowerment and let the low level manager engages in decision making. In the modern
market circumstances, most of the firms adopt centralization as the structure of firms. However, a
hierarchical structure with a top manager, department managers, is this structure guarantees high

Alcohol Abuse In Adolescence Essay
Alcohol Abuse in Adolescence Khoa Nguyen San Jose State University The period of
adolescence, from the age of 10 21, is one of the most critical and pivotal stages of the
development of human beings. Although adolescence only covers roughly ten years, or about one
seventh of the entire human lifespan, decisions and actions made during this period of time can
have drastic effects on the individual further down his/her life. Part of being an adolescent is
experiencing new things, and testing out different types of identities to see which fits best. Erikson,
a German born American developmental psychologist, characterized this part of lifespan
development as identity v.s. identity confusion(Erikson s Stages of Development, 2016). Erikson
believed that during this period in an adolescent s life, they are faced with deciding who they are,
what they are all about, and where they are going in life(Santrock, 2015). Part of finding that
identity might come with trying new substances like alcohol, marijuana, tobacco, and other harmful
drugs. Unfortunately, sometimes their first try of the new substance does not become their last.
Especially with alcohol, these drugs can be highly addictive and mistreated, translating to abuse.
With their young unstable developing minds and with the easy accessibility and social acceptance
of liquor, it seems like the adolescent age is bound on a crash course towards the abusement of
alcohol. What is Alcohol

The Lack Of Ppi Claim Deadline Hurt Lloyds Shares
5 Will the lack of PPI claim deadline hurt Lloyds shares?
The PPI (Payment Protection Insurance) scandal has gripped the United Kingdom, as millions
were seemingly undone by this somewhat fraudulent contractual term. PPI is also known as
credit insurance, loan repayment insurance, or credit protection insurance and relates to the
insuring of a loan repayment should a borrower become ill, unemployed, or pass away. Sadly,
while it sounded like a fair enough concept on paper, it was far from it on reality. Banks such as
Lloyds were mis selling PPI, with some even having no idea that they had PPI until they faced
charges later on. The issue related to PPI would take years to come fruition, but when it did Lloyds

This presents a serious issue for Lloyds and Lloyd shares, especially considering that in other
departments the bank is seen as a notably strong performer.
Addressing the matter head on, Lloyds is leading the charge when it comes to capping the time
in which a PPI claim is made. The original plan was for a deadline of 2018 to be implemented,
but Lloyds want it brought forward in attempt to boost Lloyds shares prospects. Speaking on the
matter Lloyds Finance Chief George Culmer said, We think that by implementing a shorter time
bar, it will force people s hand. It will make those people who have a potentially outstanding
claim to act more quickly . Pushing the matter forward, he has also declared the original cut off
date of 2018 to be unnecessary and excessive .
The facts are clear; people are apprehensive when it comes to Lloyds shares because the matter of
PPI has still yet to be settled. The results announcement failed to deceive in the sense that PPI is
being shown to be a huge burden on Lloyds, and in many ways is a black cloud that is hanging
over the bank. Since the turn of the 2008 credit crisis, Lloyds is one of the few banks that has
been truly able to steady ship. The problem is that due to PPI concerns that isn t necessarily
showing within the price of Lloyds shares.

Questions On Time Orientation And Gender Orientation
2.8.2 Time Orientation
As stated in Bergadaa (1990); Zinbardo and Boyd (1999) have stated that three time orientations
are established in people, such as past, present, and future orientation. These factors are measured
the bias in order to people have each category of time orientation. Therefore, most people in the
present can also think in terms of their future (Cotte, Ratneshwar, and Mick 2004). Moreover, time
orientations of each difference are also various factors such as confidence, attitude of life,
priorities, and risk taking capability (Zimbardo and Boyd, 1999)
A. Past orientation
Personals those who are concerned with past orientation are contented in their memories and
keep their memories in the past mode (Zimbardo and Boyd 1999). It was due to the past modes
of behavior has provided a comfortable pattern. Thus, these personals have hesitated to try

nostalgic as associating with a preference for goods and services that has reminded them to feel

a community for some crime (real or imagined). The outcast is usually destined to become a

This can be positive or negative, depending how the individual reacts to it. Being viewed as an

People, every day, are surrounded by architecture. Architecture is the careful planning, designing,

culture in which the building is located in. Although they are cultural symbols, they can also be
perceived as works of art. This perceived notion of art attracted artists of all different fields. Since
the start of photography, architectural photography was always a very common practice(REF).

The first of the formal elements he used was the use of cropping. In the photograph, Walker
Evans cropped out the background so the picture would only display the details of the building.
This really brought a strong focus on the intricacies of the building such as the brick layout and
window design. The framing was carefully manipulated in a way that the viewer cannot see either
the street nor the top of the building (MUS). One can conclude that this is because the mid portion
of the building really brought about the main theme of his photo. Most of the design may have
been in the mid portion of the building which really draws attention to the viewer s eye.
The second formal element that Walker Evans used was contrast. Walker Evans took the picture in
such a way that the angle of the sun created a dark shadow behind the windows of the building.
Since the picture was taken in such closed proximity, the contrast gave the photograph some depth.
Without the contrast created from the sun, the photo would have looked very flat. The sun also
reflected on the bricks of the building also creating some contrast within in the bricks giving them

Mamie Till Mobley, Emmett was born breeched, and was going to endure multiple health

Emmett on August 28, 1955. Mamie chose to have an open casket funeral for Emmett. Though it

Moulin Rouge Film Analysis
I first came across the highly stylized film Moulin Rouge! when I was Fourteen years old.
Immediately, I became obsessed. Yet, despite several months of fixation with the lavish musical, I
have not watched the Baz Luhrmann directed film in almost seven years. A lot has changed in my
life since my initial viewing. Yet, many things which first captivated me about the film still
remain true. Therefore, a re viewing of the film in order to track my emotional engagement with
the film seems applicable. While I still consider the film to be a masterpiece; some aspects of the
film increased transportation while others discouraged it. By looking at specific devices Moulin
Rouge! utilizes as well as my own individual interpretations, my engagement with the film can be
explored.
As a device that drives the film and helps create the most emotional impact, the music within the
film is particularly of note. As Sheida Sheikhha and Behrooz Mahmoodi Bakhtiari point out,
Moulin Rouge! is a jukebox musical to a significant degree. The Elephant Love Medley alone
consists of 12 different songs, from popular artists such as The Beatles and David Bowie. One of
the most impressive aspects of the film is how it adapts popular hits, cuts, and converses with
them in order to create brand new, original meanings which fit the theme of the movie songs which
say far more about the period in which the film was made than the period it depicts. The songs

from chemical damages like acids, alkalis and many more, protects us from thermal damages
like heat. The skin acts as a first wall of defense for things on the outside by disallowing them to
enter and for things on the inside by disallowing them to leak out or exposed. For example, the
skin stops fluid leakage from the body and it helps keeps and maintain the basic body
temperature. The skin not only protects and cushions, it also acts as an excretory system. It helps
excrete some toxic substances the body doesn t need just like the urinary system does. It does this
by releasing salts, water, and urea in form of sweat through the pores of the skin. The skin has three
regions, but only two of them are distinct. The three regions are the Epidermis, the Dermis, and the
Hypodermis; the two that are distinct are the Epidermis and the Dermis layer. The epidermis is the
physical layer we can see and touch while the dermis is the layer underneath the epidermis that we

Angels In America Play Analysis
The play made me feel several emotions. For the most part, I sympathized with the majority of
the characters. I especially felt an emotional attachment to Prior and Harper. Both of these
characters needed to be taken care of, but they were ultimately abandoned. Harper seems
confident that she will be fine on her own, but the thought of her being alone still saddens me. I
was also happy to read a play that dealt with Mormonism. I grew up as a Mormon and I am
interested when a piece of work addresses that particular form of Christianity. Mormonism is not
addressed in theatre and entertainment very often, so I found that particular element of the play
interesting. It is clear that AIDSis an important subject in Angels in America: Millennium

The Private Affairs Of Rulers Have Fascinated Us Since The...
The private affairs of rulers have fascinated us since the beginning of civilization. Many people
tend to think of historical LGBT figures as being artists, authors, poets, and musicians, but they
occupied many powerful positions in government as well. In times where homosexuality could be
punishable by execution or torture, keeping these attractions a secret was often a matter of life
and death, especially for the monarchs who lived highly publicized lives. Through the discovery
of love letters, journal entries, and first person accounts, historians have been able to uncover the
enigmatic relationships of some of history s most influential rulers and their same sex lovers. 10.

His obsession with witch hunts inspired Shakespeare s Macbeth , and he was known to watch
suspected witches being tortured for information. He also was responsible for the King James
Bible, the modern translation we still use today. Outside of his marriage, James had close
relationships with many of his male courtiers. James was said to be especially close to George
Villiers, who James later made Duke of Buckingham. Poet ThГ©ophile de Viau said it is well
known that the king of England has union with the Duke of Buckingham , and the Duke himself
revealed in a letter (link 2) that he had slept in the same bed as the king many times. In fact,
secret passages have been found in James castle linking his bedroom to the room of the Duke.
Before his involvement with the Duke of Buckingham, James also showed an interest in Robert
Carr. They first met at a jousting competition, where Carr broke his leg. James became
immediately interested in Carr, (link 3) and sat at his bedside while his leg healed, teaching Carr
to speak Latin. 8. Emperor Hadrian of Rome Named one of the Five Good Emperors (link 4) by

from conquests in Mesopotamia and Armenia within hours of assuming the throne in order to

Influence Of Greek Folk Song
Greece sits at the crossroad between the Eastern and Western cultures of Asia and Europe. Being at
this critical junction, Greece has experienced the ebb and flow of two cultural currents which
subjected and allowed her to assimilate creatively diverse influences. Once Constantinople fell in
1453, completing the collapse of the Byzantine empire, there followed four hundred years of slavery
which greatly hindered the natural development of Hellenism and restricted its spiritual evolution.
This period was particularly harsh and had an inhibitive influence on Greek music. From the twelfth
or thirteenth century forward, an economically exhausted Byzantium was slowly collapsing due to
years of factional rebellion, religious disputes, western crusades and eastern invasions. While the
new technique of polyphony was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As early as the first century A.D., ancient Greek tragedy, which at its peak of harmonious unity,
incorporated poetry, music and dance, had disintegrated into its component elements.
Actor tragedians continued to perform only certain parts of the dialogue of the tragedies, while
others with good voices sang the vocal parts. There also arose a gesticulator whose purpose was to
illustrate, with pantomimic gestures, what the actor tragedian was singing. This gradually
transformed the old Attic style of tragedy and comedy into the tragic pantomime style of the
imperial Byzantine years that included dance, mime, recitation and song. The reactions of the
Church Fathers and the stream of condemnatory decisions and excommunications issued by
ecumenical synods indicate the popularity of these spectacle concerts in multi ethnic Byzantium
and the influence of the mime performances on the austere moral code of the Christians for many

losses and the lack of cash flow was impairing their ability to secure financing. They also learned
that subsequent auditors had been dismissed also for apparently coming to the same conclusion
as the predecessor firm. Upon further investigation the team found that a million dollar loan
covenant had been violated by neglect to keep a minimum balance due to the fact that the owner
had withdrawn $500,000.00 out of the company account to place a down payment on his home.
The next time the covenant was broken the bank started foreclosure on the loan. The behaviors

Childbirth And The Italian Renaissance
Childbirth and Childbearing in Renaissance Italy for upper status woman, was far different than
what childbearing is compared to today s standards. In renaissance Italy it was said that woman
only had one purpose and that purpose was to have many legitimate babies, especially for the
nobility and upper status couples. From having these babies, the family could inherit a lot of
wealth (King, M. L., 2003). This differs greatly in todays society, as now woman s primary
function is not only to produce children. Woman today are seen as equals to men, and have a
larger significance than just having their husbands children. Childbearing in the Renaissance
was not as easy or as safe as it is today either, as we will further discuss. This paper will explain
the role of child birthing and bearing in the Italian Renaissance, everything from mortality rates,
to wet nurses and this differs from today s society. As mentioned before, the main role for
woman in the renaissance was to produce children for her husband and handle household affairs,
this was proven in the document by Alberti when he had said Furthermore, I made it a rule never
to speak with her of anything but household matters or of the children. Of these matters I spoke a
great deal to her...(Famiglia, D., 1996, pg 40). Thus showing the wife s role was greatly dependent
on her house and children. It was also important, especially in the nobility, that the children the wife
gave birth to were her husband s children. Her role

Persuasive Essay On Black Hawk Down
Black Hawk Down Persuasive Essay No one has ever enjoyed learning when they were being
forced to do so; luckily they don t need to be forced any longer. How things are presented to
someone directly affects their interpretation, this fact influenced Mark Bowden to set all norms
aside as he wrote his book Black Hawk Down and used uncommon techniques to allow students to
make connections on their own about the event of the Battle of Mogadishu. The Battle of
Mogadishu took place in 1993 in Mogadishu, Somalia, quickly becoming a terrible situation for
many Delta Forces and Rangers as they seemingly fought an entire city, unprepared. Themes within
the book Black Hawk Down include: moral decisions, brotherhood, and nationalism, but these...

As a result of the disastrous effects of the mission much room was made for learning and
improvement, as well as humility to be gained. American leaders and generals can learn from
the battle Bowden describes in Black Hawk Down. First, [to keeping all forces informed], and
second, the over confidence of the Americans ultimately led to more casualties (Anderson). It is
especially important for students to see real world examples of problems and what they can
cause, which this book lays out excellently. Black Hawk Down envelops social issues as well as
educational lessons that can be learned about from inferences. Within Black Hawk Down the
significance of events can challenge students social views and cause a sense a nationalism in
readers. One way that this story can do this is by creating a connection between readers and
troops. This book, brings to life the heroic efforts of American soldiers in Mogadishu s maze of
streets and alleys to survive the attacks of Somalis (Matray). The audience finds themselves
learning of the struggles of soldiers as well as gaining respect for them through this process. In a
similar fashion, Bowden writes this book, giving the happenings of a significant militaristic event,
indirectly teaching history during the process. One author previously stated that, [the Battle of

become a prevalent aspect surrounding the hip hop community. Material is illustrated most often
through the type of car a person drives and the accessories that they put on it. It is also illustrated
through clothes and jewelry. This bar judged men that Winterwould consider dating. Souljah uses
Winter s love of material possessions to illustrate what becomes the downfall of many people in the
African America community.
Although it took Winter getting put in jail to realize the error of her ways, she has learned a
valuable life lesson that can sometimes only be learned through personal experience. In the end
of the book she is talking to her sister, is involved with a drug dealer. Winter starts to tell her
sister to change her ways, but realizes that her words of advice will fall of deaf ears. She says to
herself, Hell, I m not meddling in other people s business. I definitely don t be making no
speeches . . . She ll learn for herself, that s just the way it is (413). These learned lessons form

there is not a happy ending. Our life is what we make it.

Compare and Contrast Japanese and Western Imperialism in Asia and the Pacific
23 October 2013 at 18:10
The Japanese pursuit for an empire in South East Asia helped changed the balance of world power
away from Europe, by taking their most lucrative colonies. Soon after the Japanese defeat in World
War II, most of the colonies won their independence from their European masters. This essay will
be arguing that despite the vast geographical distance and cultural, racial differences, as well as the
different time periods involved, Japanese and European intentions were very similar, and that these
similarities contributed to the weakening of Imperialism as a doctrine. To do so, this essay will be
examining the reasons for the Japanese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second problem was the Black Death, which was a bacteria that infected rats. As towns
became over crowded and food became scarce, hundreds of millions of rats migrated to the
towns. People lived with the rats in filthy conditions, allowing the fleas that became infected
while infesting the rats to attack people and infect them too. Some historical sources claim up to
2/3 of Europe s population were affected and half died. Lastly, European powers were constantly
locked in power struggles such as the 100 Years War between England and France. Thousands
were killed or crippled over sometimes only a few kilometres of territory. These problems all
contributed to a chronic labour shortage. Landowners had too many crops and no one to harvest
them. Peasants and Serfs tried to take advantage of the situation by trying to implement new
conditions, but landowners refused to lower quotas, even though there were fewer people to meet
them. This led to revolt and some changes were put in place. Landowners started paying wages for
the first time. The way Europe responded to this was by introducing mercantilism. Mercantilism is
an economic doctrine where a country dedicates all its national resources (eg. Natural, labour,
industrial etc) on a national level, unlike within feudalism where it was on a local level. A step
towards mercantilism was the establishment of the absolute monarchies who took control of their

Speech By Neil Gaiman Analysis
Many people have not fully come to realize how important libraries are. They are a wealth of
knowledge that, in this day and age, are even accessible from your bedroom. Libraries contain
books, and books contain knowledge which educates us to form our own views and opinions. In
a speech about the importance of reading, author Neil Gaiman asserts that he is biased towards
the necessity of libraries. Much like his upfront declaration, I will tell you that Gaiman and I
share a similar bias. As he describes the many reasons why libraries are so crucial, he compares
libraries to freedom. Similar to Gaiman, I believe that freedom stems from independent thought.
Growing up as an avid reader, I was taught how to think for myself through the many characters I

This begins with our parents. As Lauren Turner said in our class discussion, it is important that
parents bring their children to libraries because it teaches them to appreciate reading. An
appreciation of reading allows you to be open minded to other s beliefs and backgrounds. In his
speech, Gaiman imparted with us the concept that books are the way we communicate with the
dead (Gaiman). They show us memories of the past that can teach us to become better people. If
we don t read, we can t learn to appreciate our history and recognize past mistakes. Without the
knowledge that novels bestow on us, everyone would eventually become mindless followers we
saw how well that went in The Giver. The community didn t remember their past, which resulted
in uniform and monotonous days that could barely count as living. This is what life would be like
without libraries, and that would be an alarming world to live in. Without books to educate
ourselves, we lose our freedom to be individuals. Why become enslaved to illiteracy and narrow
mindedness when a library is accessible at the tips of our

How Does Diabetes Mellitus Affect The Individual s...
Metabolism is a sequence of biochemical reactions that take place in every single cell and organ to
maintain the organism growth, reproduction, damage repair, and adaptation to the surrounding
environment. These reactions involve catabolism and anabolism using the major sources of energy:
proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates. Furthermore, any disruption in the regulation of the metabolic
processes affects the individual s morbidity and mortality [1]. Accordingly, in this chapter, we are
going to discuss diabetes mellitus, which is one of the main metabolic disorders.
1.1.1 Pancreatic regulation of Blood Glucose
The regulation of the cornerstone of the whole body energy, glucose, in blood stream by the
pancreas, specifically the islets of Langerhans, is very critical through the secretion of insulin and
glucagon. Insulin, which is secreted from beta cells of the islets of Langerhans in response to
high blood glucose levels, has an anabolic effect via its stimulation of glucose uptake in
peripheral, skeletal muscle, as well as central, brain, tissues to be stored in the form of glycogen
and fat [2]. On the other hand, low glucose levels enhance pancreatic alpha cells secretion of
Glucagon that plays the catabolic role through stimulation of stored glycogen breakdown and
formation of glucose from non carbohydrate sources via glycogenolysis and hepatic
gluconeogenesis, respectively [2]. This mechanism is well controlled through the opposite secretion
of these hormones in response

Articles Of Confederation Achievements
Under the Articles of Confederation, the federal government was very weak and unable to
accommodate the nation after declaring its independence (Schultz, 2010). The Articles of
Confederation was a document drafted by the Continental Congress between 1776 and 1777, which
defined the colonies power and authority. Although the Articles were ready for ratification the
following year, it would not go into effect until 1781 after all thirteen states were in agreeance.
Once the Articles were ratified, they made three notable achievements (Schultz, 2010). First, they
showcased that the government consisted of laws that limited its authority. Minimizing the power
that the government wielded was important to the people because they had just escaped rule from
Great Britain. Next, the Articles made it clear that there would be no titles or a class system in the
nation, granting equal rights to all qualifying members. Finally, the Articles of Confederationhad
accomplished a functional way of the organization regarding the new lands obtained in the west. ...

First, the Articles required that all states must agree on any bills before becoming law. This is
the most significant flaw because each state had their own distinct needs and interests, it would
be challenging to pass any bill that would be equally beneficial to all thirteen states. For
example, the nation was very much in debt due to the recent war and needed a way to raise
funds. Therefore, Congress passed a bill that would have put a 5 percent tax on all imported goods.
However, because the Articles needed full unanimity, the bill died because Rhode Island was

Macro-Sociological Theory
Emile Durkheim, a social pioneer, explored many avenues of macro sociological theories.
Durkheim believed that the collective consciousness referred to the sense of morality that unifies
a society (Bohm and Vogel, 2011). One s action as an individual is shaped by the aspects of his or
her social life. Durkheim believed that macro sociologycan be merged to crimein a society by
utilizing social facts (Bohm and Vogel, 2011). Emile Durkheim was a social pioneer of all time.
He had a lasting influence on modern sociology than those of Comte. Durkheim is mimicked by
many social positivists on his findings of the transformation of society. He emerged the concept of

As a result, their conduct is less influenced by group norms and expressed in two related ways.
They consist of lack of regulation and lack of interrogation (Bohm and Vogel, 2011). In lack of
regulation, the collective conscious is unable to regulate human desires (Bohm and Vogel, 2011).
In the lack of interrogation human beings no longer care about the welfare of others (Bohm and
Vogel, 2011). Durkheim argued that anomie can be linked to social ill in crime. In macro
sociology, crime marks the boundary and function of society. If it did not exist, human beings
would be lost (Bohm and Vogel, 2011). Crime provided a mean of exchange by achieving the
necessity of social changes. Tarde and Durkheim suggested that social interactions and criminal
motivation can be linked to the Macro sociological Theory of crime (Bohm and Vogel, 2011). They
identified the particular social groups that affect criminal motivation and the process by which
criminal socialization occurs. On the other hand, Durkheim advocated a division of labor without
social inequities, occupational associations and the abolition of inheritance to reduce crime (Bohm

  • 2. Spoken Language Discourse Essay Language is a tool people use to communicate with others, it can be both seen and heard and it can be standard or diverse. It is the way in which individuals share information and encompasses many forms including written and spoken, body language and signals, visual stimuli and even the use of electronic devices. Languagecan be spoken, written or signed and involves many facets. According to Gee Hayes, 2011, language is influenced by both social and cultural environments, it is often social in that it can be personalised to a group or individual and cultural whereby the way a person speaks is relative to the rules of the society they live in and governed by the cultural acceptances of that society. Our language is heard when we use spoken language and requires an individual to make and understand verbal cues and it also provides the necessity to be able code and decode both text and non verbal cues such as gestures and facial expressions. Within society there exist many Discourses. Discourses determine how people view language, and more importantly, how they practise it. (Green, D, 2006, p.3) Within a Discourse there may be many discourses that are different ways of speaking within the overarching Discourse. For example, within a school setting you have an educational Discourse that is the language of the department of education used to set the expected standards for the school. Within this Discourse you have many smaller discourses such as the language used by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The accuracy or condition of slug is not too important. Only sufficient pressure to compact the powder into uniform slugs should be used. Once slugs are produced they are reduced to appropriate granule size for final compression by screening and milling. b) Roller compaction: The compaction of powder by means of pressure roll can also be accomplished by a machine called chilsonator. Unlike tablet machine, the chilsonator turns out a compacted mass in a steady continuous flow. The powder is fed down between the rollers from the hopper which contains a spiral auger to feed the powder into the compaction zone. Like slugs, the aggregates are screened or milled for production into granules.[Parikh.M.,1996] 1.5. • 4. The World Power Of Iran The series of disappointments that have harassed the growth of Iran began with a poor foundation, its leadership and government, and has then snowballed with each coming failure and conflict, however it is the people who choose to stand on that foundation and continue on or rebuild it. Iran, throughout the last decade has had several shifts in how government is deployed, the indecisive tug and pull of religiously kept sanctions or a move towards further westernization, and the maintenance of the tight control on its population to maintain diplomatic control. The direction of Iranto become a world power is seen through the political moves of trying to gain stronger allies, such as the dependency of the British. Mossadegh himself regarded Britain s constitutional monarchy as the best model for Iran s government. And yet his hatred for the British as a malignant force in his country s affairs, and his intuition for what he regarded as the Anglo Iranian Oil Company s essential evil, was profound. (De Bellaigue, pp. 108) In all fairness, the British Government was a power at the time with excellent executive leadership. Despite this, Mossadegh was right to have disgust for the British Government. Much of the Anglo Persian Oil Company was based in Iran where the oil was extracted. Iran is an oil goldmine. The company, which was primarily British owned, paid money to the Iranian Government for oil that was extracted, however the profits from the taxed revenue that the ... Subsequent to the Suez Canal Crisis, Egypt s disapproval of the Canadian flag (due to enemy British ties) caused Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson to seriously reconsider Canada s national identity. Pearson stirred up the Great Flag Debate, that led to a divide between the English and the French those who wanted to keep symbolic British ties, and those who wanted to separate. The path of liberation is one stage that the believer has to admit that life is awful and life has desire. The goal of this stage is let go of the desires that was being held on to during the tanha stage and realizing that there is so much more to gain in the Hinduism faith, such as seeing Buddha face again in Heaven where he now resides. Working hard during the liberation stage and not giving up leads to the renunciation stage. Renunciation occurs when pressure of life begins to turn for the worst and the thought of giving happens. He gives many solutions to what we should do and how we should do it. The public stands in two directions. He mentions the people who support the amnesty for illegal aliens , and the people who are against illegal aliens being in the United states. According to United States Department of Labor, Washington, DC, The number of unemployed persons was 8.3 million in January and the unemployment rate was 5.6%. This makes it hard for the already unemployed to want more people to migrate to the US because then there would be more people with out jobs or worse. They new immigrants would take any existing jobs that were open. But yet even with this crucial evidence Buchholz picks a bit of an unusual approach in that he doesn t try to pick one side of the audience to relate with, but yet he proposes an entirely different answer the issue. He suggests that Rather than attracting millions of uneducated people , we should, pry open the legal gates to recruit many more educated, skilled people, whether from Mexico, China or Ghana. This requested action takes away from the low skill workers jobs, therefore a solution to the job scare is answered. Another requested action is that the programs associated with Immigration give bonus points for people with more education and intelligence. The shapes are free forming shapes, they are not dominant shapes as a circle, square or triangle would be. The shapes on the Heart to Lion are shaped with curved lines to also show that the shapes are free forming. The lines are seen everywhere, there are curved and bold lines, the bold lines are very obvious since it is of a darker granted shade than the rest. The line starts off being a straight bold line, but then seems to end up being curved into the free forming shapes. The texture of this is rough all around, the only smooth section that is noticeable on the statue could be the flat part of the shapes or the bold line as well. However, from the overall, sight of the piece it seems to be rough, but not too rough. The color of this statue is different than the others mention, the color of it is a grayish tin color. The color is well known as a mixture of black and white usually there meanings behind the those two colors which are death and peace. Rapidly accelerating at a rate 10 to 15 per cent per year, a figure significantly steeper than most industries or the GDP growth rate, the last decade of the twentieth century witnessed spectacular growth within the management consulting industry (Armbruster and Kipping 2003). While in 1980 fewer than five consultancy firms with more than a thousand consultants existed, in 1997 there were more than 30. This denotes that 80 per cent of all consulting experience was generated in the years between 1980 and 1997 (Sahlin Andersson and Engwall 2002). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite these explanations holding true, this generalization cannot accurately predict the relative growth of management consulting over other administrative roles. These statements suggest that the growth in management consulting must be sensitive to exogenous changes, however this remarkable run cannot solely be explained through economic convolutions (McKenna 2006). Supporting sociologist Andrew Abbotts statement of professions develop when jurisdictions become vacant , the most probable stimulus behind the fuelled growth of management consultants, draws back to the 1930s, where the Glass Steagall Banking Act 1933 and the Securities Act 1933, was passed to correct the evident structural problems and industry errors, which contemporaries considered caused the stock market crash in October 1929 and the bank failures of the early 1930s (McKenna 1995). These legislations prohibited the competing professional groups, such as lawyers, engineers and accountants, from continuing to act as consultants (Edersheim 2004), which had an unintended effect of fostering the immediate need for management consultants as a distinct profession (Stacey 2010). Responding to this remarkable opportunity, young consultants such as James McKinsey, George Armstrong, and Edwin Booz successfully institutionalized the field of management consulting within only a few years. David Guetta is able to enhance the lyrics of this song by including several loud breaks within this song. During these breaks, Ratliff describes how the loud bass drum beats away all the white noise. I found it interesting how uncomfortable the white noise sounded, and I think the song would sound terrible if this loud bass drum was taken out. Additionally, I think that if the bass drum was taken out, the song would not contain such a double meaning. The white noise seems to represent all the abuse put onto this woman, and the bass drum seems to be her fighting it off. If she were truly bullet proof, she would not need to fight this... These preexisting sounds make this song sound alien to the music from today; as a result, the music ends up reminding the listener of similar music from the 1960s. For instance, the drum beat throughout the song Be My Baby hits only on the fourth beat which is primarily heard in Latin music. This gives the beat more pull whenever the snare beat finally comes around, as opposed to the snare being hit on the second and fourth beat. Furthermore, the castanets played throughout this song sound very Latin. In our age of electronic music, we typically use other electronic sounds in the background take the place of castanets. On the other hand, the background vocals sung in Be My Baby sound like the 1960s. For example, the background singers continue to sing parts of the chorus throughout the song a lot louder than most of the music heard today. As a result, music from the 1960s seems to always contain a clear message that is hammered in by the repetitive backup vocalists and the highly anticipated snare drum. When plants face dry weather, their stomata shrink to reduce water loss. When a similar situation places the plants under stress again, the plant seems to recall this experience and recovers quicker. Robert Deal, who studies genetics and biochemistry, hopes to utilize this trait and pinpoint its gene. If he can locate and activate the genetic material associated with this memory, he believes he can speed up the process and cause plants to have the gene activated at all times, allowing the plants to withstand drier and warmer temperatures. Other researchers have been striving for a similar goal, using the genetic material of plants to create new hybrids that can withstand extreme weather. Across the globe, scientists have been making modified plant varieties that can resist drought, a growing concern as climate change becomes a more prominent issue. The father of modern economics and capitalism, Adam Smith, maintained that ambition and acquisitiveness, two drivers of a market economy, were merely illusions. Indeed, consumerism broadens a society s economy through a wider selection of goods and services, but does it also increase the power and controls of a society s government through consumer activism and regulation? Supporters believe the current reform proposals will restrain the carelessness of business and prevent future crises. Congressional regulation, they insist, also lifts the overall living standards for all members of society. Does a society benefit or suffer as a result of increased consumerism? It absolutely benefits, say supporters. Debt drives consumer spending, which in turn helps the economy grow. When people spend more money, businesses earn higher profits and are able to hire more workers. Consumerism promotes the fueling of economic progress through the development of manufacturing and the rise of living standards for all Americans and not just the wealthy. Opponents argue that societal development suffers as consumerism and the ensuing governmental regulations increase. They point to the fact that working class wages are stagnating and prices are increasing. Avoiding debt has become almost impossible for most families because they don t have enough money to survive. This inequality leads not only poverty, but also to increased levels of consumption as consumers spend more to raise their overall standard of living. • 27. Alcohol Abuse In Adolescence Essay Alcohol Abuse in Adolescence Khoa Nguyen San Jose State University The period of adolescence, from the age of 10 21, is one of the most critical and pivotal stages of the development of human beings. Although adolescence only covers roughly ten years, or about one seventh of the entire human lifespan, decisions and actions made during this period of time can have drastic effects on the individual further down his/her life. Part of being an adolescent is experiencing new things, and testing out different types of identities to see which fits best. Erikson, a German born American developmental psychologist, characterized this part of lifespan development as identity v.s. identity confusion(Erikson s Stages of Development, 2016). Erikson believed that during this period in an adolescent s life, they are faced with deciding who they are, what they are all about, and where they are going in life(Santrock, 2015). Part of finding that identity might come with trying new substances like alcohol, marijuana, tobacco, and other harmful drugs. Unfortunately, sometimes their first try of the new substance does not become their last. Especially with alcohol, these drugs can be highly addictive and mistreated, translating to abuse. With their young unstable developing minds and with the easy accessibility and social acceptance of liquor, it seems like the adolescent age is bound on a crash course towards the abusement of alcohol. Usually the architecture of a building accurately displays the culture in which the building is located in. Although they are cultural symbols, they can also be perceived as works of art. This perceived notion of art attracted artists of all different fields. Since the start of photography, architectural photography was always a very common practice(REF). The first of the formal elements he used was the use of cropping. In the photograph, Walker Evans cropped out the background so the picture would only display the details of the building. This really brought a strong focus on the intricacies of the building such as the brick layout and window design. The framing was carefully manipulated in a way that the viewer cannot see either the street nor the top of the building (MUS). One can conclude that this is because the mid portion of the building really brought about the main theme of his photo. Most of the design may have been in the mid portion of the building which really draws attention to the viewer s eye. The second formal element that Walker Evans used was contrast. Walker Evans took the picture in such a way that the angle of the sun created a dark shadow behind the windows of the building. Since the picture was taken in such closed proximity, the contrast gave the photograph some depth. Without the contrast created from the sun, the photo would have looked very flat. A black male whistling at a white woman during this time of age was prohibited. Mamie educated Emmett before he left that he should not even walk on the same side of the street as a white woman. Emmett apparently whistled at a white woman while in a store. This led to white racists kidnapping him in the middle of the night and inhumanly murdered Emmett on August 28, 1955. Mamie chose to have an open casket funeral for Emmett. Though it was hard for her to turn her privacy of grieving the loss of her son, she chose to turn this into a public issue. While I still consider the film to be a masterpiece; some aspects of the film increased transportation while others discouraged it. By looking at specific devices Moulin Rouge! utilizes as well as my own individual interpretations, my engagement with the film can be explored. As a device that drives the film and helps create the most emotional impact, the music within the film is particularly of note. As Sheida Sheikhha and Behrooz Mahmoodi Bakhtiari point out, Moulin Rouge! is a jukebox musical to a significant degree. One of the most impressive aspects of the film is how it adapts popular hits, cuts, and converses with them in order to create brand new, original meanings which fit the theme of the movie songs which say far more about the period in which the film was made than the period it depicts. • 39. The Procedure Of The Skin Introduction The skin also known as the Integumentary system is the largest organ in the human system; it covers about 20 square feet. The skin has many functions, most of it is having to act as a protection agent. The skin is an important organ because it stops unwanted things from entering the body through the pores. It protects us from microorganisms; it cushions and insult the tissue laying underneath it; it protects the skin from involuntary damages like cuts and bumps; It protects us from chemical damages like acids, alkalis and many more, protects us from thermal damages like heat. The skin acts as a first wall of defense for things on the outside by disallowing them to enter and for things on the inside by disallowing them to leak out or exposed. For example, the skin stops fluid leakage from the body and it helps keeps and maintain the basic body temperature. The skin not only protects and cushions, it also acts as an excretory system. It helps excrete some toxic substances the body doesn t need just like the urinary system does. It does this by releasing salts, water, and urea in form of sweat through the pores of the skin. The skin has three regions, but only two of them are distinct. The three regions are the Epidermis, the Dermis, and the Hypodermis; the two that are distinct are the Epidermis and the Dermis layer. Some historical sources claim up to 2/3 of Europe s population were affected and half died. Lastly, European powers were constantly locked in power struggles such as the 100 Years War between England and France. • 50. Speech By Neil Gaiman Analysis Many people have not fully come to realize how important libraries are. They are a wealth of knowledge that, in this day and age, are even accessible from your bedroom. Libraries contain books, and books contain knowledge which educates us to form our own views and opinions. In a speech about the importance of reading, author Neil Gaiman asserts that he is biased towards the necessity of libraries. Much like his upfront declaration, I will tell you that Gaiman and I share a similar bias. As he describes the many reasons why libraries are so crucial, he compares libraries to freedom. Similar to Gaiman, I believe that freedom stems from independent thought. Growing up as an avid reader, I was taught how to think for myself through the many characters I met in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This begins with our parents. As Lauren Turner said in our class discussion, it is important that parents bring their children to libraries because it teaches them to appreciate reading. An appreciation of reading allows you to be open minded to other s beliefs and backgrounds. In his speech, Gaiman imparted with us the concept that books are the way we communicate with the dead (Gaiman). They show us memories of the past that can teach us to become better people. If we don t read, we can t learn to appreciate our history and recognize past mistakes. Without the knowledge that novels bestow on us, everyone would eventually become mindless followers we saw how well that went in The Giver. The community didn t remember their past, which resulted in uniform and monotonous days that could barely count as living. This is what life would be like without libraries, and that would be an alarming world to live in. Without books to educate ourselves, we lose our freedom to be individuals. Why become enslaved to illiteracy and narrow mindedness when a library is accessible at the tips of our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. How Does Diabetes Mellitus Affect The Individual s... Metabolism is a sequence of biochemical reactions that take place in every single cell and organ to maintain the organism growth, reproduction, damage repair, and adaptation to the surrounding environment. These reactions involve catabolism and anabolism using the major sources of energy: proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates. Furthermore, any disruption in the regulation of the metabolic processes affects the individual s morbidity and mortality [1]. Accordingly, in this chapter, we are going to discuss diabetes mellitus, which is one of the main metabolic disorders. 1.1.1 Pancreatic regulation of Blood Glucose The regulation of the cornerstone of the whole body energy, glucose, in blood stream by the pancreas, specifically the islets of Langerhans, is very critical through the secretion of insulin and glucagon. Insulin, which is secreted from beta cells of the islets of Langerhans in response to high blood glucose levels, has an anabolic effect via its stimulation of glucose uptake in peripheral, skeletal muscle, as well as central, brain, tissues to be stored in the form of glycogen and fat [2]. On the other hand, low glucose levels enhance pancreatic alpha cells secretion of Glucagon that plays the catabolic role through stimulation of stored glycogen breakdown and formation of glucose from non carbohydrate sources via glycogenolysis and hepatic gluconeogenesis, respectively [2]. This mechanism is well controlled through the opposite secretion of these hormones in response ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Articles Of Confederation Achievements Under the Articles of Confederation, the federal government was very weak and unable to accommodate the nation after declaring its independence (Schultz, 2010). The Articles of Confederation was a document drafted by the Continental Congress between 1776 and 1777, which defined the colonies power and authority. Although the Articles were ready for ratification the following year, it would not go into effect until 1781 after all thirteen states were in agreeance. Once the Articles were ratified, they made three notable achievements (Schultz, 2010). First, they showcased that the government consisted of laws that limited its authority. Minimizing the power that the government wielded was important to the people because they had just escaped rule from Great Britain. Next, the Articles made it clear that there would be no titles or a class system in the nation, granting equal rights to all qualifying members. Finally, the Articles of Confederationhad accomplished a functional way of the organization regarding the new lands obtained in the west. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, the Articles required that all states must agree on any bills before becoming law. This is the most significant flaw because each state had their own distinct needs and interests, it would be challenging to pass any bill that would be equally beneficial to all thirteen states. For example, the nation was very much in debt due to the recent war and needed a way to raise funds. Therefore, Congress passed a bill that would have put a 5 percent tax on all imported goods. However, because the Articles needed full unanimity, the bill died because Rhode Island was against it as the state depended on imported ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Macro-Sociological Theory Emile Durkheim, a social pioneer, explored many avenues of macro sociological theories. One s action as an individual is shaped by the aspects of his or her social life. Durkheim believed that macro sociologycan be merged to crimein a society by utilizing social facts (Bohm and Vogel, 2011). Emile Durkheim was a social pioneer of all time. As a result, their conduct is less influenced by group norms and expressed in two related ways. They consist of lack of regulation and lack of interrogation (Bohm and Vogel, 2011). In lack of regulation, the collective conscious is unable to regulate human desires (Bohm and Vogel, 2011). In the lack of interrogation human beings no longer care about the welfare of others (Bohm and Vogel, 2011). Durkheim argued that anomie can be linked to social ill in crime. In macro sociology, crime marks the boundary and function of society. If it did not exist, human beings would be lost (Bohm and Vogel, 2011). Crime provided a mean of exchange by achieving the necessity of social changes. Tarde and Durkheim suggested that social interactions and criminal motivation can be linked to the Macro sociological Theory of crime (Bohm and Vogel, 2011). They identified the particular social groups that affect criminal motivation and the process by which criminal socialization occurs. On the other hand, Durkheim advocated a division of labor without social inequities, occupational associations and the abolition of inheritance to reduce crime (Bohm and Vogel, ...
