Persuasive Essay On The SAT
It all started back in 1926 when the first SAT was administered to high school students. The Scholastic
Aptitude Test (SAT) is a test dreaded by high school students, given to them spring of junior year. It s
goal is to academically test students to see if they would be a good fit in that certain college and play a
role in admissions. More and more schools have been finding that the SAT provides neither an
accurate nor helpful view of its applicants (Flore) . Over time it s becoming more accepted that the
SAT doesn t show the students ability. In the U.S. there are already 850 colleges that are SAT optional,
meaning that they don t require test scores in admissions. Grade point average and AP tests showcase
the students academic skill more. Colleges should get rid of the reliance on SAT scores in admissions.
It s been proven that these test taking abilities don t properly gauge a student s ability to perform. The
tests center is math and english, but with so much content it can be hard for a student to study. It s not
like a regular quiz in class where the student knows the exact material. WIth the SAT having influence
on college admissions students feel like they can move their grades to the bottom of their priorities.
According to a study done by Princeton, it found that going SAT optional would result in classes of
students with higher grade point averages, Dropping testing entirely, on the other hand, would result in
higher levels of academic achievement in the

The Pros And Cons Of Child Support
In situations, when the non custodial parent who has been ordered to pay child support fails to do so,
the other parent can depend upon federal and state family law to mandate appropriate enforcement
procedures. Parents who are delinquent on their child support are commonly referred to as deadbeat
parents. The term is typically used to reference state laws created to deal with a parent s refusal to
abide by the court s child support order. These mandates ensure that child support payments are
submitted in a timely manner.
When referencing a parent who has unpaid child support, legal documents will typically refer to the
amount past due as being child support in arrears. It is not unheard of for states or counties to post
pictures, names,

Similarities Between Western And Eastern Cultures
The term behavior refers one s acts dominated by ideology in response to certain situations. Behavior
derives from the long development of culture in which people are defined what is supposed to act
based on the identity given. In other words, one s behavior sometimes is the demonstration of one s
identity. Living in a multi culture world, people from various cultures may behave totally different
toward a situation or stimulus. Western and eastern cultures typically reflects the point of behavioral
differentiations among distinct cultures. The United States, as a superpower established in last
hundreds of years, possesses distinguishing features of western culture such as open and liberty.
Meanwhile, China is an eastern country with an ancient civilization stands for conservative culture.
Therefore, as represents of these two cultures, the United States and China are appropriate examples to
explore the behavioral differentiations, and the differences in behavior can be well demonstrated
through daily behaviors like classroom, driving and dining. Firstly, comparing the classroom
behaviors, the classroom behaviors between America and China are two extremes that Americans are
more active in class while Chinese tend to behave passively in class. Based on my college experience
in the United States, most professors here use PowerPoint as the major tool to give a lecture.
Generally, only a little stuff, which is the main points or ideas will be posted on the PowerPoint; and

Huckleberry Finn Documentary Analysis
When discussing Mark Twain, there are often aspects about him and his life in general that are
controversial and unclear. Ken Burns documentary not only provides an in depth analysis of Mark
Twain s life, but also provides clarity to some of those highly disputed questions. An example of one
of these questions that Burns frequently addresses is if Mark Twain s life was as interesting and
significant as it is suggested to be. Ken Burns addresses this by establishing throughout the
documentary that Mark Twain is a loveable and complex human being and backs this up with many
different examples. The complexity of his life is shown in the documentary by all of the immense
hardships and success that Twain encounters in his life. One of the many hardships that Twain endured
during his life was when his daughter Suzie got sick and passed away while he was traveling with his

After learning a lot about his many contrasting life experiences, I increasingly found myself admiring
him for a couple different reasons. One reason is that his life wasn t perfect and golden as most people
believe it to be. Before he made it as a writer, he was very unsuccessful and even contemplated suicide
from time to time. I am not implying that trying to kill yourself makes you a better person, however, it
does serve as an example of Twain having a very rough upbringing and life before his immense fame.
Whilst reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, I felt somewhat negatively towards Twain s
character, mostly because of the horribly racist things that he wrote. I understood that these situations
and lines were critical to the story, but I can t deny that some of it was hard to stomach. This said,
Burns documentary really gave some needed depth to Twain s character that made him a lot more
likable and

The Man In The Water By Roger Rosenblate
Not all heroes wear capes. Nowadays, an ordinary person can also be a hero by helping others when
they are in diffucult situation. A hero is a person who has the courage and not completely crumbles by
fear. They do good things for others with no cost or benefit to themselves.
You don t need to have super powers to become a hero because everything you do to help others when
they have a difficult time can make you become a hero to them.
First of all, a hero can give up his or her life to save others. For example, The man in the water, by
Roger Rosenblatt. They call him the man in the water, who sacrifices his life to save five people from
drowning in the freezing river. He just did his job but his courage to face with the situation and

A Point Of Return In Nietzsche s Groundhog Day
1. Tanksley reports about her young life up to this point that if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn t
change a thing. Can you use this as a point of departure for o Defining Nietzsche s eternal return and
showing how it works?
1. Nietzsche´s eternal return is similar to the 1993 film Groundhog Day where a news reporter got
stuck into a time loop reliving the same day over and over until breaking the loop. The contrast here,
however, is the film focusing on the reporter´s unhappiness of reliving the same day everyday,
whereas Nietzsche philosophized that every decision and action made would be the setup to be relived
from the changing point when it all began; the cycle would be repeated when the person dies and then
is immediately reborn into the point of change. In terms of the film Groundhog Day, the main
character died at the end of each day to be reborn at the point his alarm clock went off in the morning.
(Faust, 2012) o Characterizing Tanksley s professional life as one fit for approval by Nietzsche s
eternal return?
1. In Tanksley´s case, she believes that she has found her principle passion for life and would be
content to repeat it lifetime after lifetime. For her, it is what fuels her to live. In Nietzsche´s law of the
eternal return, each re lived life is an exact copy of the original without being changed in other words,
living in an unknown time loop or stuck in a rut . Tanksley states that she would be perfectly happy to
repeat (be reborn) as

Health issues of bad cardiovascular fitness
Good physical health is a vital part of the well being of every person. A major component of our
physical health is Cardiovascular fitness . Cardiovascular fitness is the ability of the heart and lungs to
provide oxygen to the muscles for activity of an extended duration. If we have a good level of cardio
vascular fitness we are able to sustain activity for a reasonable period of time and not fatigue easily.
This can give individuals a variety of health benefits and allow more regular and enjoyable activity to

Seawater Desalination In California
California used to depend on surface water but once we started to see that surface water was depleting,
we went straight to groundwater. After many years groundwater has also started to disappear leaving
the question what are we going to do next? . This problem is causing the land of california to sink,
make the next drought we are going to have even worse, using most of the groundwater we have left
faster than it can get filled back up again, and ect. Therefore, the state of California should conserve
more groundwater by lowering the maximum capacity of pumping extractions, recycling water to fill
aquifers back up, and seawater desalination. One main way to conserve more groundwater is to lower
the maximum capacity of pumping extractions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We should be trying our best to help with these solutions because; one of the solutions are: lowering
the maximum capacity of pumping extractions helps save more water in aquifers, because right now
anyone can pump out a much water as they would like, and that is not helping with our drought.
Another solution is; recycling more water to fill aquifers back up because land has been sinking, and
also since we keep on pumping out water and not letting rain and snow melt to fill them back for us, it
will take about 5o years to fill back up, from the rate of pumping out the groundwater. The next
solution is; seawater desalination and one way seawater desalination could work for us is because we
do not have lots of water but we do have lots of oil and the process to clean the water is with lots of oil
to get a lot more water than we have now. So we should be conserving more water because it could
help the state of california, stop the land from sinking anymore, save up more water for the next
drought , and just help the people in the state of California more water so we do not ever run out or

Selecting a Political Party Essay
There is one right given to americans that seems to stand for all of the rights and that is voting. The
right of voting is the right given to all Americans who are at least eighteen years old. Voting is the
foundation in which Americans can gain more rights. For most being American and voting is a big
deal. Most will say it s our constitutional right. Voting is knowing that the person or people that one
decides to choose represents him or her. The people who are voted into a office will ultimately be
making governmental decisions for Americans. These decisions represent and reflect the American
people whether they like them or not.

Still, I did have to see the very options that democrats provided for Americans. Who were the faces of
democrats? Then I began to notice people like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were the faces of a

both minorities in their positions in government; Hillary a female who ran for president, Barack
Obama I man whose skin wasn t of the majority and is now president. Democrats seemed to be
making history and that caught my eye. The democrats seemed to be all full of new ideas and
movements it became apparent that they might be for me. But even so I needed to know what was
great about the other political party.
Republicans or people who believes in or supports the republic form of government, was the next
political party that I looked at. Subsequently, I had to take a look at the word republic, to understand
what it meant. According to Merriam Webster.com, it means a country that is governed by elected

reading that definition I began to think to myself what republicans stand for also has to do with the
American idea. Republicans had history with

advice on how to avoid getting ripped off, but few discuss the actual car repair prices. We really need
to look at the charges on a car repair estimate or auto repair invoice to determine if we re paying too

The focus needs to shift from giving outdated and ineffective advice to addressing the specific
charges. Are they legitimate charges? Can they be justified by industry guidelines?
Now car repair estimates can be confusing. So let s break it down to get a better idea if your auto

Nitrogen is an essential nutrient for plant growth, and providing the right quantities it helps crops

contributes to the greenhouse effect and global ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Global Warming and the greenhouse gas emission are some of the biggest problems society faces
today. When farmers use highly concentrated nitrogen fertilizers, much of the nitrogen is being
converted to gasses through the nitrogen cycle. The emission of these gasses is one of the main causes
of climate change, especially in the formation of N2O. Climate change is usually associated with the
accumulation of CO2, mainly produced by human activity but N2O is recognized as a potent
greenhouse gas with 298 times higher global warming potential than CO2 (Wang et al., 2016).
Nitrogen base fertilizers are used around the world and usually contain large amounts of nitrogen. This
excess nitrogen is responsible for soil degradation, groundwater pollution emission of ammonia and
greenhouse gasses (Geng et al., 2015). The problem lies in being able to produce crops at an effective
rate and also being able to reduce the negative effects that nitrogen has in the environment. This paper
examines different researches already done on the effect that nitrogen base fertilizers has on crops and
the alternatives to the common used fertilizers.

To win at League of Legends often means incorporating a set of neoliberal standards into one s
approach to play. League of Legends is normally categorized generically as an Action RTS (Real Time
Strategy) or a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena). This is a genre distinction created by Riot
Games to categorize League of Legends and similar games. While the game maintains many elements
of the RTS genre from which it originates (progression in uninterrupted time as opposed to a turn
based system, an isometric camera angle, a point and click movement control scheme, etc.), it differs
in that, unlike RTS games like Star Craft or Age of Empires where players command large numbers of
military units, in League of Legends each player controls only one character. These characters, dubbed
winners, according to the game s zestful description, each own diverse abilities and stats that make
them unique. The selection of these characters, known as champions, that is available for players to

116th playable champion has been announced. Champion concepts are pulled from a variety of

discussions, ideas, words, or anything that may cause students to feel an emotional affect. On the other

and defends an individual s freedom of speech. Oftentimes some of us get penalized for speaking our
minds. Sometimes we are penalized because others pity our ability to speak our minds freely and
carelessly. Though generally we get penalized for speaking angrily over the reality of certain
circumstances. Rosenblatt gives an example of a baseball player who was suspended from major

of his own personal views and opinions. Though the baseball player sounded like a jerk to his peers
Rosenblatt believes he had a right to sound like a jackass since he believes everyone should have the
access to freely speak. The court did not interfere, perhaps because the Constitution only states the
government has no right to prevent free expression (Rosenblatt 215). Being falsely accused for the use

Immigration Act Of 1965 Essay
The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, also known as the Hart Celler Act, was signed into law
on October 3rd, 1965, and abolished the National Origins Formula. This aforementioned policy was
an American structure of immigration quotas that transpired from 1921 to 1965 and limited
resettlement to the United States, based on the conviction that an existing ethnic composition needed
to be maintained. This former policy directly impacted existing proportions of the population from
Eastern and Southern Europe and demonstrated an inherent bias against Asians and Africans. However
the Immigration Act of 1965 intended to eradicate these former immigration policies, replacing it with
a law that was meant to lead to profound demographic changes. The Immigration and Nationality Act
was cited as a radical break from the then quota system, replacing it with a preference structure that
focused on an immigrants skills and family relationships with United States residents. At its core the
Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 was a reformed legislation that eased restrictions on

system gave preference to countries, like the Netherlands, who had little interest in immigration,
whereas they gave small quotas to countries, like Greece, who did. In this regard the new proposed
bill wanted to correct quota system prejudices and establish a reflection on the maintenance of

Sleep Apnea Definition
According to the National heart, lung, and blood institute website, Sleep apnea is a common disorder
in which a person has one or more pauses in breathing or weak breaths while they sleep (NIH National
heart, lung and blood Institute, 2012, definition). The pauses and breathing can last from a few
seconds to minutes, and breathing pauses may happen 30 times or more an hour. After the pauses,
normal breathing can start but with a loud snort or choking sound (NIH National heart, lung and blood
Institute, 2012, definition). Sleep Apnea can be categorized in three types: obstructive sleep apnea,
central sleep apnea and complex sleep apnea syndrome.
The cause of sleep apnea is due to a blockage of the throat muscles that keep airway flow open. Some
of the reasons for the blockage can be the relaxing of throat muscles and tongue unusually, the size of
your tongue and tonsils are not appropriate for the opening of your windpipe, and people with weight
issues. Other reasons can be the size of your head and neck which may lead to a narrow airway
passage in the mouth and throat. In addition, as people get older, the brain signals ability gets worse
and causes throat muscles to stiffen. Consequently, airways have an increased chance of narrowing or
collapsing (NIH National heart, lung and blood Institute, 2012, causes). Snoring is one of the most

The Enlightenment And Ideas Of The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment was a time of mathematical, scientific, and philosophical advancement. The
thoughts of philosophers like Voltaire, Montesquieu, and Locke inspired many, such as the Americans.
Their ideas about freedom of religion, civil liberties, free trade, and social reforms became the basis
that the Americans built their new country upon and impacted politics and culture. Due to the
advanced ideas that were emerging from Europe, religious views of the colonists started to alter.
Before enlightenment beliefs spread, the universally accepted theory was that human suffering was
inevitable. However, the new conjecture stated God set the universe in motion and gave humans the
power of reason to enable them to comprehend the orderly and complex

1.1 Explain The Importance Of Working In Partnership
Working in partnership is essential to the development of children and young people in the early years
setting and school. Partnerships are formed by positive relationships, from practitioners to parents,
carers and multi agencies. Multi agencies are different types of servicers brought together for one
purpose, which is to support the needs of the child and young person. Through this partnerships are
formed with practitioners and families through the key worker system, and integrated work supports
the child and young person by meeting their needs and improving their life.
Integrated practices and multi agencies work together to benefit children and young people as it brings
together a range of different services which is open to the community. ... Show more content on

Why The Decline Of Newspaper Is Bad For The Us
Laura Finley states in her article The Decline of Newspapers Is Bad for the US that there has been
quite a decline in newspapers in recent years. The cause of this decline is none other than our beloved
internet. The biggest decline in newspapers was between October 2008 and March 2009. In this time
period average newspaper sales decreased by 7.1 percent compared to the year prior. (14 15)
Advertising revenues declined by an outstanding 30 percent in the first quarter of 2009! (15 16)
Since 2007 several major newspapers have been forced into bankruptcy or have experienced major
budget cuts due to the internet. One such newspaper is The Boston Globe who faced tremendous
financial danger and possible closure in May 2009. (16 17) Another such

Essay On Diabetes
There is a direct association between hyperglycemia and physiological and behavioral responses.
During hyperglycemia, the brain recognizes it and sends a message through nerve impulses to
pancreas and other organs to decrease its effect (Baynes, 2015). The autoimmune destruction of
pancreatic β cells, leads to a deficiency of insulin secretion which results in the metabolic
derangements associated with T1DM. Normally, hyperglycemia leads to reduced glucagon secretion;
however, in patients with T1DM, glucagon secretion is not suppressed by hyperglycemia (Holt, 2004).
The resultant inappropriately elevated glucagon levels exacerbate the metabolic defects due to insulin
deficiency. In type 2 diabetes these mechanisms break down, with the ... Show more content on

This type1 diabetes is a relatively homogeneous disease in which the insulin secretion of beta cells in
the pancreas starts to decline and eventually ceases totally.
3.4.2. Type 2 diabetes: Type 2 diabetes is characterized by insulin resistance and/or abnormal insulin
secretion (Alberti, 1998). About 90% of all diabetes cases account for type2 (Zimmet, 2001). The
inability of the pancreas to produce insulin or production of insufficient insulin, or the insulin itself is
inactive in the case of type2 diabetes (Naemiratch, 2007). In the case of type 2 diabetes, the blood
sugar is controlled either through diet, with oral hypoglycemic drugs or in extreme cases with
exogenous insulin (Inzicchi, 2002; Gannon, 2006). Individuals with type 2 diabetes mostly exhibit
intra abdominal (visceral) obesity. The presence of hypertension and dyslipidemia (high triglyceride
and low HDL cholesterol levels; postprandial hyperlipidemia) are also observed in these individuals.
Type2 diabetes is the most common form and is highly associated with a family history of diabetes,
older age, obesity and lack of exercise. This type of diabetes is more common in women, especially
women with a history of gestational diabetes, and in Blacks, Hispanics and Native Americans
(Baynes, 2015).

Winston s personal utopia was most likely the bedroom he and Julia rented from Mr. Charrington.
Like in Snow Crash, Winston s desperation with reality lead him to create his own utopia where he
could get a glimpse of freedom and happiness. The dystopia in 1984 is everything else outside of the
bedroom in Mr. Charrigtons shop. The Book of Eli does not have a utopia throughout the movie. The
closest the movie comes to revealing a utopia is towards the end when the Bible begins to go through
the printing press and when Solara goes back to her town to potentially make it better. The majority of
the movie is dystopian. The Book of Eli does not break the idea that a utopia cannot exist without a

Alaska is different. When compared to the contiguous United States of America the differences are
pronounced and occur in almost all aspects of life. The differences even extend to the original
inhabitants, to the way they survived, treaties with the United States government, current way of life,
and education. An overview of the historical approach to education as well as the current changes will
hopefully provide insight into what works and what does not work in educational settings in rural
Alaska. Alaska is large. With a land mass of one third the side of the rest of the United States it dwarfs
Texas, the second largest state, by over two and half times. The twenty six smallest states combined
are still smaller than Alaska. Alaska s coastline is over 33,000 miles, many times longer than the
coastline of the remaining United States. Alaska is the most northern, western and eastern state. It is
filled with natural resources. People around the world identify Alaska with the midnight sun, oil fields,
Denali, Salmon and the mighty Yukon. Yet with plenty of resources and all of that room, in 2000, the
population of Alaska was only 710,321 (Alaska, 2014). Combined with Alaska s size this results in a

Pros And Cons Of Long-Term Franchise
Long Term Franchise (BOT or LDO)
Around the world, long term franchises for infrastructure facilities are usually referred to as BOT
projects, because under this type of contractual agreement the private sector builds, operates, and
eventually transfers to government the facility in question. When a lease of the underlying land is
involved, this type of arrangement is sometimes called Lease Develop Operate (LDO); in this case the
transfer back to government is implicit approach is widely used for several reasons. First, it taps into a
different pool of capital than is normally available for public infrastructure projects, thereby
expanding the range of potential funding sources. Second, private consortia are often able to design
and build large facilities in significantly less time than is possible via traditional government
procurement methods. Third, both the up front cost and the operating costs may be ... Show more

Fourth, BOT is a way of shifting many of the risks of project development from the public sector to
the private sector. For these reasons, airport BOT projects have proliferated in recent years. As of early
1994, there were 15 airport BOT terminal or runway projects under way worldwide, and another five
projects to develop entire new airports. In addition, another 18 such projects were under study. No
outright airport BOT project has yet occurred in the United States, but Transport Canada used this
process to develop the successful international terminal (Terminal 3) at Toronto (as will be discussed
in the next section). Many U.S. airports have used something resembling an LDO process to develop
new terminals sponsored by either one or a group of airlines, which gain exclusive control of the gates
in that terminal. But this type of project raises important competition and access issues that do not
arise when the developer/operator is an independent third party which relates to all airlines equally as
users (as is the case

Current Research On Dental Implants
Raminderjeet Kaur Prof. Cheng BIOE 324 4/30/15 Current Research in Dental Implants Medicine and
technology have been evolving for centuries. New practices, drugs, and therapies are constantly
emerging to better adapt to the needs of the new era. One such development is the widespread use of
dental implants. Gone are the days where civilizations would carve shells and implant them into the
mandible. Dental implants have evolved from using allograft and xenograft to using ceramic material
for osseointegration. [15] While ceramics provide superior osseointegration properties, new research
is being conducted to improve the surface properties of implant materials to reduce the recovery time

[12] [14] To satisfy these ambitions, the authors speculated that alterations in both surgical and
restorative procedures as well as implant design may affect the treatment short and long term
outcomes. They suspected that implant design may have been rationalization driven by implant
therapy protocol alteration toward diminishing the period allowed for bone healing after implant
placement instead of being based on well designed in vitro, laboratory in vivo and clinical research
results. [12] Limitations in previous designs have rarely been investigated, but surface modifications
have been extensively in an attempt to increase the rate of bone healing and thereby allowing the early
loading of dental implants. [14] The article claims there to be a lack of hierarchical approach that has
led to difficulties in isolating the topographic and chemical parameters that provide the optimum bone
healing around the dental implants. [12] It further recognized literature inconsistencies in respect to
the mechanistic effect of surface modifications in short term and long term loading of implants. It calls
for more accurate clinical studies to be performed that consider different implant surfaces. The authors
further put clinicians in charge of interpreting in vitro, laboratory in vivo, and clinical study data for
the effectiveness of new and improved materials. [12] Despite a well formed and compelling
argument, the authors fail to provide concrete data to support

The Dynamic Between Men And Women During The Heian Era
Genji Monogatari, credited to Murasaki Shikibu, defines contemporary aristocratic etiquette and
lifestyles of the Heian era. Of Fujiwara lineage, the clan which organized marriages with the emperor,
renders intimate credibility of court life albeit from eyes of her middle aristocratic origin. Society s
portrayal in this story primarily chronicles the life of Genji, whose rank is in the upper echelon of
nobility, which in the eleventh century numbers about 5,000, and thus explores what is tolerable and
preferential to their cultured tastes. Given that aristocrats were preoccupied with their upbringing and
level in society, they were deeply sensitive to nature s evanescent beauty, the art of poetry, calligraphy,
music, etcetera. Insight unto the dynamic between men and women within this regal milieu
emphasizes status, social and emotional, and value, gauged by capability, amongst both sexes. The
women during the Heian era are customarily confined to study the arts within their home and seen
solely by their father and husband throughout their life. Estranged from view by blinds and screens
their interaction outside of their dwelling is contingent upon further shrouds from lurking eyes of
people. Ox drawn carriages possessing a tiny slit to view the outside world along with their
intermittent pilgrimages to temples and shrines were the typical exposures deemed tolerable. Although

Cochlear Implants
A cochlear implant is an electronic device that restores hearing for people anywhere from hard of
hearing to the profoundly deaf. The cochlear implant is surgically implanted under the skin behind the
ear. The surgeon puts the electrode array inside the inner ear and than inside the cochlea. The implant
works by a device outside the ear, which rests on the skin behind the ear. It is held upright by a magnet
and is also connected by a lead to a sound professor.

The headpiece sends the signal through the skin and to the implant to pick up. Than the implant picks
up the sound and sends it through the lead and to the electrode array. Finally, the sound is picked up
by the hearing nerve and the message is sent to the brain.
When a person with normal hearing hears the sound travels along the ear then bounces against the ear
drum. The eardrum, the bones inside, and the cochlea vibrate and move thousands of tiny hairs inside
the ear. When these hairs move an electrical response occurs. This electrical response goes to the
hearing nerve and then it is send to the brain.
Cochlear implants cost much more then a hearing aid. Insurance companies don’t cover the cost of
hearing aids however; most companies do cover the cost of getting a cochlear implant. Figuring out
the average price of a cochlear implant includes evaluation, the implant itself, surgery and
rehabilitation. The total cost including these four things is $40,000.00. Most people think that the fee
is well worth it.
Cochlear implants are becoming more and more popular now. Even babies as young as 12 months are
receiving a cochlear implant. For hearing parents it’s more convenient to have their child get a
cochlear implant rather then to learn sign language. Hearing parents usually just look for the simple
way out because they don’t want to have a child who is “different.

An impulse is defined as a sudden and unreflective urge or desire to act also as a driving or motivating

Silence of the Lambs there is a killer Jame Gumb named nicknamed buffalo bill , named that way for
his impulsive killing. He lures women off the streets and then skins different parts of them to make a

enough in how he disposed of his bodies and how he picked up his victim. He was sloppy and let his

Defining the Future of Education Essay
Defining the Future of Education
What should be the goals of an elementary education within an increasingly diverse population? The
simple and obvious answer is that an educational institution should be a place for individuals to learn.
The job of the teacher is to issue facts, share methods in which the facts can be learned and model
consistent and appropriate behavior. Such behavior should consist of modeling appropriate
presentation, cleanliness, respect, methodology, etc. Such a question is bound to raise many arguments
by teachers and the answer will raise many arguments by students. Most of our children, especially

Children do not enter into Kindergarten as blank states as some psychologists would have you think.
Many children have been predisposed to many opinions, facts, and cultural experiences that make
them unique. Too often, policy makers assume that when a child enters kindergarten, he or she is
starting fresh and the molding process can begin. Teachers have the power to change such primitive
thought as Mike Rose eloquently professes throughout his book. The idea of individuality and
diversity needs to be honored and respected. Trying desperately to fit into the mold is stifling too
many children. While some children persevere with the challenge, others sink into a dismal outlook of
their future, far before they enter fifth grade. I vividly remember my elementary school teachers. The
early grades were tremendously comforting, however, when placed in classes where lecture was
preferred over discovery, I graciously fell behind. I remember desperately needing to see or touch the
topics that were being presented. Every subject that was limited to lecture and print became
increasingly complex.
An elementary class consists of a minimum of twenty personalities grouped into one room. Perhaps
we should take a moment to really absorb the thought of twenty unique personalities in one room.
Each child constructs unique coping methods upon which they survive each day in the

As well as preventing invasion by certain micro organisms, chemical substances and allergens carried
out by the specialized components mentioned before.
The fundamental role of the chemical barrier is to protect the skin from harmful sources in the
environment especially the outermost layer of the epidermis (stratum corneum) and to provide skin
secretion and melanin in the epidermis. Melanin is a free radical scavenger and an energy sink, which
forms a protective energy cap over the nuclei of keratinocytes in the basale layer therefore, protecting
the DNA from getting damaged by ultraviolet rays.
The moisture barrier found in the outermost layer of the stratum corneum is slightly acidic pH (4.5
.5.5), therefore known as acid mantle.
The acid mantle is low in pH in the skin and made of combination of sweat and sebaceous oils, which
has bactericidal substances to inhibit growth of harmful bacteria and fungi. The low acidity in the
moisture barrier of the epidermis also helps to maintain the hardness of keratin proteins, whereas
keeping them bounded together.
If the surface of the skin comes in contact with alkaline i.e. soap; the keratin fibres loosen and soften,
therefore disrupting the pH acid mantle. As a result of this the skin becomes prone to infection,
dehydration, irritation and roughness.

The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock
T.S. Eliot was an outstanding author and an exemplary representation of the ideas of modernism. The
Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, despite being one of T.S Eliot s earliest publications, still manages to
remain one of the most famous. He uses this poem to not only draw out the psychological aspect of
members of modern society, but also to draw out the aspect of the time that he lived in. The speaker of
this poem is a modern man who feels alone, isolated, and incapable of making decisive actions for
himself. Prufrock desires to speak to a woman about his love for her, but he hesitates the entire way
there. In this poem, the theme I have chosen is fragmentation, which we can see throughout the entire
structure of the work. It s evidenced by not only his writing style, but the use of space and time and
the personality of Prufrock. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock depicts the conscious thoughts of a
single, timid, and middle aged man. Prufrock is talking or thinking to himself, these thoughts or
speeches making up the entirety of the poem. For the first forty eight lines of the work, he considers
the aimless pattern of his solitary life. He is a lover, but unable declare love to someone. In the very
first line, he is both the you and I, pacing the city s streets on another lonely walk. He watches the fog
settle over him in the evening. Growing more hesitant throughout, he stops to consider his decision.

  • 2. Persuasive Essay On The SAT It all started back in 1926 when the first SAT was administered to high school students. The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is a test dreaded by high school students, given to them spring of junior year. It s goal is to academically test students to see if they would be a good fit in that certain college and play a role in admissions. More and more schools have been finding that the SAT provides neither an accurate nor helpful view of its applicants (Flore) . Over time it s becoming more accepted that the SAT doesn t show the students ability. In the U.S. there are already 850 colleges that are SAT optional, meaning that they don t require test scores in admissions. Grade point average and AP tests showcase the students academic skill more. Colleges should get rid of the reliance on SAT scores in admissions. It s been proven that these test taking abilities don t properly gauge a student s ability to perform. The tests center is math and english, but with so much content it can be hard for a student to study. It s not like a regular quiz in class where the student knows the exact material. WIth the SAT having influence on college admissions students feel like they can move their grades to the bottom of their priorities. According to a study done by Princeton, it found that going SAT optional would result in classes of students with higher grade point averages, Dropping testing entirely, on the other hand, would result in higher levels of academic achievement in the ... • 3. The Pros And Cons Of Child Support In situations, when the non custodial parent who has been ordered to pay child support fails to do so, the other parent can depend upon federal and state family law to mandate appropriate enforcement procedures. Parents who are delinquent on their child support are commonly referred to as deadbeat parents. The term is typically used to reference state laws created to deal with a parent s refusal to abide by the court s child support order. These mandates ensure that child support payments are submitted in a timely manner. When referencing a parent who has unpaid child support, legal documents will typically refer to the amount past due as being child support in arrears. • 4. Similarities Between Western And Eastern Cultures The term behavior refers one s acts dominated by ideology in response to certain situations. Behavior derives from the long development of culture in which people are defined what is supposed to act based on the identity given. In other words, one s behavior sometimes is the demonstration of one s identity. Living in a multi culture world, people from various cultures may behave totally different toward a situation or stimulus. Western and eastern cultures typically reflects the point of behavioral differentiations among distinct cultures. The United States, as a superpower established in last hundreds of years, possesses distinguishing features of western culture such as open and liberty. Meanwhile, China is an eastern country with an ancient civilization stands for conservative culture. Therefore, as represents of these two cultures, the United States and China are appropriate examples to explore the behavioral differentiations, and the differences in behavior can be well demonstrated through daily behaviors like classroom, driving and dining. Firstly, comparing the classroom behaviors, the classroom behaviors between America and China are two extremes that Americans are more active in class while Chinese tend to behave passively in class. • 5. Huckleberry Finn Documentary Analysis When discussing Mark Twain, there are often aspects about him and his life in general that are controversial and unclear. Ken Burns documentary not only provides an in depth analysis of Mark Twain s life, but also provides clarity to some of those highly disputed questions. An example of one of these questions that Burns frequently addresses is if Mark Twain s life was as interesting and significant as it is suggested to be. Ken Burns addresses this by establishing throughout the documentary that Mark Twain is a loveable and complex human being and backs this up with many different examples. The complexity of his life is shown in the documentary by all of the immense hardships and success that Twain encounters in his life. One of the many hardships that Twain endured during his life was when his daughter Suzie got sick and passed away while he was traveling with his wife ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After learning a lot about his many contrasting life experiences, I increasingly found myself admiring him for a couple different reasons. One reason is that his life wasn t perfect and golden as most people believe it to be. Before he made it as a writer, he was very unsuccessful and even contemplated suicide from time to time. I am not implying that trying to kill yourself makes you a better person, however, it does serve as an example of Twain having a very rough upbringing and life before his immense fame. Whilst reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, I felt somewhat negatively towards Twain s character, mostly because of the horribly racist things that he wrote. I understood that these situations and lines were critical to the story, but I can t deny that some of it was hard to stomach. This said, Burns documentary really gave some needed depth to Twain s character that made him a lot more likable and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A hero is a person who has the courage and not completely crumbles by fear. They do good things for others with no cost or benefit to themselves. You don t need to have super powers to become a hero because everything you do to help others when they have a difficult time can make you become a hero to them. First of all, a hero can give up his or her life to save others. For example, The man in the water, by Roger Rosenblatt. They call him the man in the water, who sacrifices his life to save five people from drowning in the freezing river. He just did his job but his courage to face with the situation and ... • 7. A Point Of Return In Nietzsche s Groundhog Day 1. Tanksley reports about her young life up to this point that if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn t change a thing. Can you use this as a point of departure for o Defining Nietzsche s eternal return and showing how it works? 1. Nietzsche´s eternal return is similar to the 1993 film Groundhog Day where a news reporter got stuck into a time loop reliving the same day over and over until breaking the loop. The contrast here, however, is the film focusing on the reporter´s unhappiness of reliving the same day everyday, whereas Nietzsche philosophized that every decision and action made would be the setup to be relived from the changing point when it all began; the cycle would be repeated when the person dies and then is immediately reborn into the point of change. In terms of the film Groundhog Day, the main character died at the end of each day to be reborn at the point his alarm clock went off in the morning. (Faust, 2012) o Characterizing Tanksley s professional life as one fit for approval by Nietzsche s eternal return? 1. In Tanksley´s case, she believes that she has found her principle passion for life and would be content to repeat it lifetime after lifetime. For her, it is what fuels her to live. In Nietzsche´s law of the eternal return, each re lived life is an exact copy of the original without being changed in other words, living in an unknown time loop or stuck in a rut . Tanksley states that she would be perfectly happy to repeat (be reborn) as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Seawater Desalination In California California used to depend on surface water but once we started to see that surface water was depleting, we went straight to groundwater. After many years groundwater has also started to disappear leaving the question what are we going to do next? . This problem is causing the land of california to sink, make the next drought we are going to have even worse, using most of the groundwater we have left faster than it can get filled back up again, and ect. Therefore, the state of California should conserve more groundwater by lowering the maximum capacity of pumping extractions, recycling water to fill aquifers back up, and seawater desalination. One main way to conserve more groundwater is to lower the maximum capacity of pumping extractions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We should be trying our best to help with these solutions because; one of the solutions are: lowering the maximum capacity of pumping extractions helps save more water in aquifers, because right now anyone can pump out a much water as they would like, and that is not helping with our drought. Another solution is; recycling more water to fill aquifers back up because land has been sinking, and also since we keep on pumping out water and not letting rain and snow melt to fill them back for us, it will take about 5o years to fill back up, from the rate of pumping out the groundwater. The next solution is; seawater desalination and one way seawater desalination could work for us is because we do not have lots of water but we do have lots of oil and the process to clean the water is with lots of oil to get a lot more water than we have now. Global Warming and the greenhouse gas emission are some of the biggest problems society faces today. When farmers use highly concentrated nitrogen fertilizers, much of the nitrogen is being converted to gasses through the nitrogen cycle. The emission of these gasses is one of the main causes of climate change, especially in the formation of N2O. Climate change is usually associated with the accumulation of CO2, mainly produced by human activity but N2O is recognized as a potent greenhouse gas with 298 times higher global warming potential than CO2 (Wang et al., 2016). Nitrogen base fertilizers are used around the world and usually contain large amounts of nitrogen. This excess nitrogen is responsible for soil degradation, groundwater pollution emission of ammonia and greenhouse gasses (Geng et al., 2015). The problem lies in being able to produce crops at an effective rate and also being able to reduce the negative effects that nitrogen has in the environment. This paper examines different researches already done on the effect that nitrogen base fertilizers has on crops and the alternatives to the common used fertilizers. Normally, hyperglycemia leads to reduced glucagon secretion; however, in patients with T1DM, glucagon secretion is not suppressed by hyperglycemia (Holt, 2004). When a lease of the underlying land is involved, this type of arrangement is sometimes called Lease Develop Operate (LDO); in this case the transfer back to government is implicit approach is widely used for several reasons. First, it taps into a different pool of capital than is normally available for public infrastructure projects, thereby expanding the range of potential funding sources. Second, private consortia are often able to design and build large facilities in significantly less time than is possible via traditional government procurement methods. Third, both the up front cost and the operating costs may be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fourth, BOT is a way of shifting many of the risks of project development from the public sector to the private sector. For these reasons, airport BOT projects have proliferated in recent years. As of early 1994, there were 15 airport BOT terminal or runway projects under way worldwide, and another five projects to develop entire new airports. In addition, another 18 such projects were under study. No outright airport BOT project has yet occurred in the United States, but Transport Canada used this process to develop the successful international terminal (Terminal 3) at Toronto (as will be discussed in the next section). Many U.S. airports have used something resembling an LDO process to develop new terminals sponsored by either one or a group of airlines, which gain exclusive control of the gates in that terminal. But this type of project raises important competition and access issues that do not arise when the developer/operator is an independent third party which relates to all airlines equally as users (as is the case ... New practices, drugs, and therapies are constantly emerging to better adapt to the needs of the new era. One such development is the widespread use of dental implants. Gone are the days where civilizations would carve shells and implant them into the mandible. Dental implants have evolved from using allograft and xenograft to using ceramic material for osseointegration. [15] While ceramics provide superior osseointegration properties, new research is being conducted to improve the surface properties of implant materials to reduce the recovery time after implantation. [12] [14] To satisfy these ambitions, the authors speculated that alterations in both surgical and restorative procedures as well as implant design may affect the treatment short and long term outcomes. They suspected that implant design may have been rationalization driven by implant therapy protocol alteration toward diminishing the period allowed for bone healing after implant placement instead of being based on well designed in vitro, laboratory in vivo and clinical research results. [12] Limitations in previous designs have rarely been investigated, but surface modifications have been extensively in an attempt to increase the rate of bone healing and thereby allowing the early loading of dental implants. [14] The article claims there to be a lack of hierarchical approach that has led to difficulties in isolating the topographic and chemical parameters that provide the optimum bone healing around the dental implants. [12] It further recognized literature inconsistencies in respect to the mechanistic effect of surface modifications in short term and long term loading of implants. It calls for more accurate clinical studies to be performed that consider different implant surfaces. The authors further put clinicians in charge of interpreting in vitro, laboratory in vivo, and clinical study data for the effectiveness of new and improved materials. • 34. The Dynamic Between Men And Women During The Heian Era Genji Monogatari, credited to Murasaki Shikibu, defines contemporary aristocratic etiquette and lifestyles of the Heian era. Of Fujiwara lineage, the clan which organized marriages with the emperor, renders intimate credibility of court life albeit from eyes of her middle aristocratic origin. Society s portrayal in this story primarily chronicles the life of Genji, whose rank is in the upper echelon of nobility, which in the eleventh century numbers about 5,000, and thus explores what is tolerable and preferential to their cultured tastes. Given that aristocrats were preoccupied with their upbringing and level in society, they were deeply sensitive to nature s evanescent beauty, the art of poetry, calligraphy, music, etcetera. Insight unto the dynamic between men and women within this regal milieu emphasizes status, social and emotional, and value, gauged by capability, amongst both sexes. The cochlear implant is surgically implanted under the skin behind the ear. The surgeon puts the electrode array inside the inner ear and than inside the cochlea. The implant works by a device outside the ear, which rests on the skin behind the ear. It is held upright by a magnet and is also connected by a lead to a sound professor. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The headpiece sends the signal through the skin and to the implant to pick up. Than the implant picks up the sound and sends it through the lead and to the electrode array. Finally, the sound is picked up by the hearing nerve and the message is sent to the brain. When a person with normal hearing hears the sound travels along the ear then bounces against the ear drum. The eardrum, the bones inside, and the cochlea vibrate and move thousands of tiny hairs inside the ear. When these hairs move an electrical response occurs. This electrical response goes to the hearing nerve and then it is send to the brain. Cochlear implants cost much more then a hearing aid. Insurance companies don’t cover the cost of hearing aids however; most companies do cover the cost of getting a cochlear implant. Figuring out the average price of a cochlear implant includes evaluation, the implant itself, surgery and rehabilitation. The total cost including these four things is $40,000.00. Most people think that the fee is well worth it. Cochlear implants are becoming more and more popular now. Even babies as young as 12 months are receiving a cochlear implant. For hearing parents it’s more convenient to have their child get a cochlear implant rather then to learn sign language. Hearing parents usually just look for the simple way out because they don’t want to have a child who is “different.â€? Most Deaf people are against ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The simple and obvious answer is that an educational institution should be a place for individuals to learn. The job of the teacher is to issue facts, share methods in which the facts can be learned and model consistent and appropriate behavior. Such behavior should consist of modeling appropriate presentation, cleanliness, respect, methodology, etc. Such a question is bound to raise many arguments by teachers and the answer will raise many arguments by students. Children do not enter into Kindergarten as blank states as some psychologists would have you think. Many children have been predisposed to many opinions, facts, and cultural experiences that make them unique. Too often, policy makers assume that when a child enters kindergarten, he or she is starting fresh and the molding process can begin. Teachers have the power to change such primitive thought as Mike Rose eloquently professes throughout his book. The idea of individuality and diversity needs to be honored and respected. Trying desperately to fit into the mold is stifling too many children. While some children persevere with the challenge, others sink into a dismal outlook of their future, far before they enter fifth grade. I vividly remember my elementary school teachers. The early grades were tremendously comforting, however, when placed in classes where lecture was preferred over discovery, I graciously fell behind. I remember desperately needing to see or touch the topics that were being presented. Every subject that was limited to lecture and print became increasingly complex. An elementary class consists of a minimum of twenty personalities grouped into one room. Perhaps we should take a moment to really absorb the thought of twenty unique personalities in one room. Each child constructs unique coping methods upon which they survive each day in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The fundamental role of the chemical barrier is to protect the skin from harmful sources in the environment especially the outermost layer of the epidermis (stratum corneum) and to provide skin secretion and melanin in the epidermis. Melanin is a free radical scavenger and an energy sink, which forms a protective energy cap over the nuclei of keratinocytes in the basale layer therefore, protecting the DNA from getting damaged by ultraviolet rays. The moisture barrier found in the outermost layer of the stratum corneum is slightly acidic pH (4.5 .5.5), therefore known as acid mantle. The acid mantle is low in pH in the skin and made of combination of sweat and sebaceous oils, which has bactericidal substances to inhibit growth of harmful bacteria and fungi. The low acidity in the moisture barrier of the epidermis also helps to maintain the hardness of keratin proteins, whereas keeping them bounded together. If the surface of the skin comes in contact with alkaline i.e. soap; the keratin fibres loosen and soften, therefore disrupting the pH acid mantle. As a result of this the skin becomes prone to infection, dehydration, irritation and roughness. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock T.S. Eliot was an outstanding author and an exemplary representation of the ideas of modernism. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, despite being one of T.S Eliot s earliest publications, still manages to remain one of the most famous. He uses this poem to not only draw out the psychological aspect of members of modern society, but also to draw out the aspect of the time that he lived in. The speaker of this poem is a modern man who feels alone, isolated, and incapable of making decisive actions for himself. Prufrock desires to speak to a woman about his love for her, but he hesitates the entire way there. In this poem, the theme I have chosen is fragmentation, which we can see throughout the entire structure of the work. It s evidenced by not only his writing style, but the use of space and time and the personality of Prufrock. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock depicts the conscious thoughts of a single, timid, and middle aged man. Prufrock is talking or thinking to himself, these thoughts or speeches making up the entirety of the poem. For the first forty eight lines of the work, he considers the aimless pattern of his solitary life. He is a lover, but unable declare love to someone. In the very first line, he is both the you and I, pacing the city s streets on another lonely walk. He watches the fog settle over him in the evening.
