Examples Of Storm In A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings
In Marquez s short story A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, a storm is evidently passing through.
Pelayo, Elisenda and their family seem to live near an ocean being that crabs have flooded their yard.
Their child was sick which they presumed was due to the stench of the thousands of crabs present.
Pelayo went to clean up the crab catastrophe only to discover a winged, not so angelic looking man
lying face down in the dirt. He begins to believe that the man is an angel who was coming to take his
child as if the child was going to pass away, but the angel never quite made it to them. The man did
not move so they moved him themselves placing him in their chicken coop. Word traveled quickly
about this strange creature being on their property and people began coming from everywhere to
check him out for themselves. The local priest decided the man could not be an angel because he didn
t have that angelic appearance, but rather that of a person who had been sleeping out on the streets.
However, everyone still perceived the man as an angel when truthfully, he was just a dirty man with
wings residing in a coop. People began coming to him from far and wide seeking out advice. There
was such a large turn out that Elisenda began charging people to see him and obtained enough funding
to allow both of them to stop working and buy property. However, the old man eventually gains the
strength it takes for him to fly away. Connections This story connects to the real world through

A Framework for Diagnosing Competitive Superiority
George S. Day Robin Wensley Assessing Advantage: A Framework for Diagnosing Competitive
Superiority Strategy is about seeking new edges in a market while slowing the erosion of present
advantages. Effective strategy nnoves are grounded in valid and insightful monitoring of the current
competitive position coupled with evidence that reveals the skiHs and resources affording the most
leverage on future cost and differentiation advantages. Too often the available measures and methods
do not satisfy these requirements. Only a limited set of measures may be used, depending on whether
the business starts with the market and uses a customer focused approach or alternatively adopts a
competitor centered perspective. To overcome possible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are given meaning in the minds of managers through processes of selective attention and
simplification (Pfeffer and Salancik 1978). Otherwise managers could not possibly cope with the
myriad of trends and events that must be organized, analyzed for patterns, and acted upon. Managers
therefore adopt a customer focused or competitor centered perspective to help simplify their
environment and decide what information is to be gathered and how it is to be screened and
interpreted. Simplification comes at a cost, which is the risk that only a partial and biased picture of
reality is created. A competitor centered perspective leads to a preoccupation with costs and
controllable activities that can be compared directly with corresponding activities of close rivals.
Customer focused approaches have the advantage of examining the full range of competitive choices
in light of the customers needs and perceptions of superiority, but lack an obvious connection to
activities and variables that are controlled by management. Clearly a balance of the two characteristic
perspectives is needed. In practice most businesses tilt in some cases very sharply toward one or the
other. A significant complication in the search for a balanced p erspective is the confusing welter of
overlapping meanings of competitive advantage. Because there is no agreement on what elements to
include or how they are related, information gaps cannot be identified. We address this

Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, And J. P. Morgan
The Great Triumvirate consisted of outstanding business men who changed many ways of our nation
today. Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, and J.P. Morgan all had different goals and strategies
set for their businesses, which they received tons criticism. People felt they were manipulating the
financial system for their own good, this is where the term Robber Baron is brought up. A Robber
Baron is a person who has become rich through ruthless and unscrupulous business practices. The big
business executives felt their strategies would help improve the economy and the people would accept
the changes that were made. Andrew Carnegie became known as one of America s builders , because
of his efforts that fueled the economy. Carnegie became such a wealthy man because of the vertical
combination strategy he used, which the idea was first used by Gustavus Swift. With that strategy, he
bought railroad companies and iron mines. Carnegie searched for ways to make better products
cheaper, then he incorporated new machine and techniques that enabled him to track precise costs. He

Morgan used his influence to help stabilize American financial markets during several economic
crises. Unlike the other big business men, Morgan faced criticism, because citizens felt he had too
much and accused Morgan of manipulating the nation s financial system for his own gain. His
dedication to efficiency and modernization helped transform American. J.P. Morgan donated profits to
charities, churches, hospitals, and schools. Just like Carnegie, all of Morgan s decisions were made to
benefit the society especially in a crisis, for example, the Panic of 1907 . During the Panic of 1907,
Morgan directed the banking coalition that stopped the panic. By his decisions, Morgan wanted
society to become more successful economically. To do so, Morgan reorganized business structures
and management in order to return back to

Introduction. In Term Three Of The Practical Nursing Program
Introduction In term three of the practical nursing program we started our first placement in a hospital
setting. During the second week of placement we went out onto our assignment floors and got to
shadow a nurse. That morning I went to see all of the patients that my nurse had for the day to
introduce myself and tell them if they need anything to let me know. One of the patients that morning
was crying, so I had went up to her asked what was wrong, her response was I have been sitting in my
own stool since 6am, I rang my call bell and no one has came . This type of situation was a moral
dilemma, the patient is unable to change her own brief and the nurse was not nearby to do so. As a
student nurse I was unable to do a bed bath and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A brief is suppose to be changed at least 5 8 times a day or immediately after it s been soiled. After a
brief change it is important to clean the area properly to prevent any infections. A urinary tract
infection can occur if a patient stays in their soiled brief for an extended amount of time or if they are
not cleansed properly. Another consequence with having a soiled brief is that you could be at risk for
skin breakdown. As stated Too much moisture over hydrates the skin, making it weak and more
sensitive to friction, shear and breakdown (think about being in the tub or pool for a long time).
Primary sources of excess skin moisture include sweating, bowel and bladder accidents, and drainage
from wounds (Skin Health: Prevention and Treatment of Skin Breakdown,2011). Therefore, if a
healthcare provider does not attend to a soiled brief immediately, risk for infection and skin
breakdown will occur.
My personal/ professional values and beliefs In this situation I felt that it conflicted with me on a
personal and professional level, being a student nurse and also a women. When I first went into the
room and seen a patient crying, I wanted to help but with my qualifications as a student I was not able
to. As a women not being able to change yourself or do anything on your own, takes away your pride
and dignity, making you feel useless and lowers your self esteem. If I had a family member in the
hospital I would hope that the nurses are treating them

The Tally Stick Essay
Allison O Regan
Prof. Fraustino
Intro. To Poetry
Peer Review Paper #1 The Tally Stick
In the poem The Tally Stick , Jarold Ramsey uses a stick to symbolize the relationship between two
people. Carved notches, arrowheads, and other symbols along the grain of the stick each have their
own special meaning and represent certain events that occurred within these people s lives together.
Though over the time, the stick becomes whittled down and weakened; those carvings are a testament
to the strength and endurance of their relationship. Stanza two of the poem takes time to reveal what
each individual notch or marking on the tally stick represents in their actual lives. The most intricate
carving described represents the day of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author then says that the lengthening runes of our lives run through it all (19). Runes being
something written in characters, the characters used to describe the personal events within the
relationship surpasses the historical events that occurred. At the end of the poem, the final product of
the tally stick is described. It had been carved all the way from end to end with meaningful events and
occurrences that helped to shape an entire relationship. It is conveyed as being delicate as scrimshaw
(21), scrimshaw being the word for patterns and designs engraved on fragile materials such as whale
bone. The tally stick is now so lessened, that it would not be able to bear you up (21) or support you
were you to lean on it. Though positive experiences were revealed in the beginning of the poem, such
as the children and the wedding, the author also makes it a point to say that there were also regrets
throughout the time he spent with his partner. The wood was polished...hand over hand with the regret,
meaning their hands ran over the wood so often thinking of mistakes that were made that it was
smoothed down. The line and in one another s blameless eyes go blind (27) shows that throughout
time, and throughout all the events that happened, the two individuals do not hold anything against
one another and one person is not more responsible for anything that happened than the other. The
Tally Stick describes all of the events that

Myth Of Zachariah
The Myth of Zachariah
There once was a young man named Zachariah Kellerhoff. A rather skinny, small, and weak young
man that has never been athletic or paid attention to. Always in the dark or in the corner with no
friends and avoided by almost everyone, except for his mother. His mother cared for him in all ways.
They lived together in a tribe full of great warriors. The tribe s name, The Comanche. Zachariah was
obviously an outcast, but a skilled one. Every open time he had he was shooting his bow or throwing
his javelin. He became very skilled at archery and javelin while everyone else worked with swords,
horses, or slingshots.

Taking a Look at Lutheranism
If you don t believe in God, you had better hope your right! All religions basically believe in one God.
Lutheranism is no exception, and as it just so happens it is very close to the Catholic religion I
practice. This paper will attempt to explain the Lutheran Church and how it came to be.
Martin Luther, a German monk, known to many as the Father of Reformation did not initially or
intentionally, start the Lutheran religion. However, his teachings became the cornerstone of what is
known today as the Lutheran Religion. Marting Luther was born in Germany in 1483, became a monk,
got ordained in 1507 then began to teach at the University of Wittenberg. Even though Martin Luther
was ordained in the Catholic Church he became torn as some ... Show more content on

If his right to grant remission in these cases were disregarded, the guilt would certainly remain
unforgiven.
2. God remits guilt to no one unless at the same time he humbles him in all things and makes him
submissive to the vicar, the priest.
3. The penitential canons are imposed only on the living, and, according to the canons themselves,
nothing should be imposed on the dying.
4. Therefore the Holy Spirit through the pope is kind to us insofar as the pope in his decrees always
makes exception of the article of death and of necessity.
http://www.biblestudytools.com/history/creeds confessions/luther 95 theses.html The gist of the
Theses were to protest, challenge and deny certain aspects of what was going on in the church. Martin
Luther s became very popular and as his ideas of reform became more and more popular, the Pope
threatened Luther to stop or face excommunication. Martin did not conform and in 1521 Martin was
excommunicated by the Pope. Hence the beginning of the Lutheran Religion. In the beginning people
did not initially want to be called Lutherans they like to be referred to as Evangelicals but their
opponents called them Lutheran s after the reformer Martin Luther, and the name stuck.
As far as the important rituals and sacraments in the Lutheran Church, many mimic the Catholic
Church. However the Lutheran Church only has two sacraments where the Catholic Church has seven
including, baptism, confirmation, confession, Last Supper, marriage,

A Raisin in the Sun
Though there was a heightened sense of tension over civil rights in the late 1950s when A Raisin in the
Sun was written, racial inequality is still a problem today. It affects minorities of every age and
dynamic, in more ways than one. Though nowadays it may go unnoticed, race in every aspect alters
the way African Americans think, behave, and react as human beings. This is shown in many ways in
the play as we watch the characters interact. We see big ideas, failures, and family values through the
eyes of a disadvantaged group during an unfortunate time in history. As Martin Luther King said,

Toward the end of the play his spirit is broken, and he behaves almost like a madman, plotting to give
in to Lindner and accept his offer; this action greatly worries his mother. The whole time, Walter wasn

system that he found himself subject to. This idea comes up in Gertrude Samuels Even More Crucial

(Samuels 1546). His personal dignity is at stake repeatedly throughout the story when he finds himself
battling against a troubled family and a corrupt system. The racism steeped social system negatively
affects African American males and females, causing deeply rooted issues. The three women in the
story, Beneatha, Ruth, and Mama, represent the different views Black women took during these
troublesome times. There were women like Beneatha, who didn t want to live the typical life of a wife
and mother, and openly disapproved the assimilation of Blacks into American culture as well: Because
I hate assimilationist Negroes! (Hansberry 1500). She wanted to become highly educated, and to
change the world somehow. She wanted to be something. Beneatha is a very strong willed, hard
headed character. This could very well have been caused by the unfair rules of her time constantly
being reiterated to her through several mediums. Over and over again she is told that she must

Who Is Jay Gatsby Tragic Hero
According to Aristotle, an ancient Greek philosopher, a tragic hero is a man who is neither a paragon
of virtue and justice nor undergoes the change to misfortune through any real badness of wickedness
but because of some mistake. A tragic hero is also someone of high status who dies a tragic death
resulting from an irreversible mistake or hamartia. In the classic novel, The Great Gatsby , F. Scott
Fitzgerald portrays his own idea of a tragic hero through the main character and protagonist, Jay
Gatsby. Like every other tragic hero, Jay Gatsby had many characteristics that allowed him to be
successful and outstanding in life, but had a flaw that led him to a tragic fall. A tragic hero is a man of

tumbled short of his dreams not through her own fault, but because of the colossal vitality of his
illusion. (Fitzgerald 95) This shows that even Nick, recognizes that Gatsby idealized Daisy and saw
her as perfection. This idealization of Daisy goes on and leads Jay Gatsby to become very materialistic
in order to woo and try to get Daisy to love him. For example, when Daisy comes to visit Gatsby, he
wears a white flannel suit, silver shirt, and gold colored tie (Fitzgerald 84) to try and get her attention
and to impress her with how many things he has that only the affluent can afford. As he is in this
pointless pursuit of Daisy, he completely ignores how she really acts and what her true personality is
like. All that Gatsby sees, is perfection even though Daisy is really corrupt and selfish. Gatsby is
completely blinded by his love for Daisy that he forgets that Daisy is already married to Tom
Buchanan and even has a child. This idealization of Daisy as the perfect wife is Gatsby s tragic flaw
and later, leads him to his own

The Changing Role Of Animation In The 1940 s
During the 1940 s America was fighting battles both at home and overseas, both on screen and off.
The reason being, World War II changed the possibilities of animation. Before the war, animation was
only used for comedy and entertainment. Animation were these shorts played with color, music, and
storytelling both hand drawn and computer animated. The attack on Pearl Harbor was a turning point
in this form of entertainment because never before has the movie industry and nation been so aligned
with interests and goals. To explain, Film studios used animated characters to spread propaganda and
educate Americans about their enemies. And the animators themselves were employed to make

President Franklin D. Roosevelt, a longtime supporter ... of the movie industry allowed Hollywood to
continue commercial operations so longs as it cooperated with Washington in actively supporting the

They were intended to help build morale for the public, and allowed Americans to release their anger
and frustration through crude humor to simply reflect the war culture. Disney in particular made many
wartime cartoons that showed what was happening inside the United States during the war, and reflect
the cultural moment in which they were made. For instance, Daffy Duck was one of the popular
characters from Walt Disney that was used for the war effort. In a short film, called Scrap Happy

The United Nations ( Un )
Stephen D. Krasner, defined International Regimes as Implicit or explicit principles, norms, rules and
decision making procedures around which actors expectations converge in a given area of
international relations. International regimes have the ability to change the nature of state interactions
as well as providing solutions to intra state wars. An international regimes ability to do this varies
based on several different factors. These factors are influenced by the regimes foreign policy and their
standing in the international community, as well as binding international treaties, such as NATO and
the EU. A regimes military strength can also play a role in their ability to influence their ability to
change the nature of states interactions, as well as provide a solution to intra state wars. The United
Nations (UN) also plays a crucial role in the communication between states. The most powerful
nations within the UN arguably have the greater capacity to command a strong global presence and
have greater ability to interact and affect outcomes in intra state wars.
The main international body with the ability to change the nature of states interactions and provide
solutions to intra state wars is the UN, more specifically the UN Security Council. Countries that have
disagreements usually discuss the issues within the UN, and the matter is discussed by all member
states with the aim of finding a resolution that both states can agree on. However the UN is not always

Haemolytic Anemia Research Paper
In my opinion, based on signs and symptoms this patient suffers from hemolytic anemia, characterized
by reduction in the number of circulating red blood cells, caused by accelerated destruction and
removal of these cells from the bloodstream before their normal lifespan is over. When blood cells die,
bone marrow produces more blood cells to replace them, however, in HA, the bone marrow does not
make red blood cells fast enough to meet the body s needs. Many diseases, conditions, and factors can
cause the body to destroy its red blood cells. This type of anemia can be inherited, where parents
passed the gen to the child (hemoglobin defects, enzyme defects, membrane defects) or acquired,
meaning it developed overtime (infectious diseases: hepatitis, streptococcus; medications such as
acetaminophen, antibiotics, ibuprofen, interferon alfa procainamide). In some cases, the cause of

Essay On How Did Texas Fight In The Civil War
Fighting for What s Right (Or Believed to Be)
Way back when, the South had clashing opinions with the North. And like in most cases, the
disagreement turned into a war. The US was divided into the North and South; one side strongly for
slavery, and one strongly against. Everyone thought that they could live this way, divided, in harmony,
but they were wrong. Southern states began to secede, and a month later war broke out. Why did
Texans fight in the Civil War? The residents of Texas fought because they loved Texas, they wanted to
have states rights, and they wanted to protect slavery.

South believed that they had their own rights, but the president said otherwise. Southerners (including

The people of Texas fought in the Civil War to preserve slavery. African race ... is mutually beneficial
to both bond (slave) and free, and is ... justified by the experience of mankind... (Doc B) Texans
believed that slavery was right, and that Africans benefited from slavery. I think that this is the most
important reason that Texans fought because it s literally what divided the nation. If everyone agreed
on things regarding slavery, the country wouldn t have split and the American Civil War would be non
existent.
Texans fought in the Civil War because residents loved Texas, they felt a strong desire for states rights,
and believed slavery should be preserved. I think that slavery is wrong and inhumane. So if I had lived
in Texas during the Civil War and I had to fight, I would fight because I love Texas. However, if i didn

Once she has woken up she finds herself pondering about what she has done and what she has to do.

News Media and the Coverage of Darfur
News Media and the Coverage of Darfur Our news media is as celebrity obsessed as the rest of the
nation. And why shouldn t it be? The articles and television news coverage of celebrities is going to
sell a lot more magazines and draw in a lot more viewers than something depressing and/or hard to
understand like a genocide. Let s face it, when people come home from a long, hard day at work, they
want to be entertained, not forced to think of the bad things happening in the world. Plus, thanks to a
sub par educational system in the United States that teaches to the test and lets important subjects such
as geography and social sciences fall by the wayside, many people don t even know where these
places are that are experiencing humanitarian crises. They can t be expected to be interested in places
of which they have never heard. This, at least, is the common perception among the media today. In
2005, the collective news media channels of this country ran 55 times as many stories about Michael
Jackson and his trial for alleged child sexual abuse than they did regarding the genocide going on in
Darfur. In fact, MTVu, which is the university station for MTV, did a more thorough job of covering
Darfur than any of the major media outlets in the United States. Further, while the news media in other

Benefits Of Working A Four Day Work Week
The idea of only working a four day work week sounds appealing to most people and I don t blame
them for liking the idea. The idea brings upon great benefits like, saving money on commuting costs,
companies will save money on operating expenses, and many more things that can catch your
attention. It all looks great on paper or when you hear it on a television special showing how people
are enjoying life in countries that have adapted this work ideology. For many of us that do work a full
time job, working an eight hour day is tough as it is. When asked to stay for a an hour , usually you re
not going to be as productive or carry a high morale as you did in the previous dreaded 8 hours of
work. It s hard to imagine being able to enjoy doing that for four consecutive days a week working a
ten hour workday. Like many things they seem great on paper, but only time and results tell the dark
truth of a doomed idea. Recession makes people think about how money is spent and how certain
budgets can be managed. The four day work week in Oakland County which is right outside of
Detroit, MI was a plan in reaction to rising gas prices. About 450 employees signed on to this idea to
avoid a pay cut, they were also saving money on not having to commute a day out of the week to work
which is an environmental benefit also. Oakland was not the only place to try out this idea. 17,000
state employees in Utah were scheduled to work a trial program which consisted of them only

eighty injured (Humanitarians and Reformers 184).The vicious annihilations were named the
Sharpville massacre (Humanitarians and Reformers 183). These events created a work boycott
amongst the African community which in turn caused the government to claim that they were in a
state of emergency, shutting down the entire country. Arrest warrants were sent out for PAC and ANC
members, which included Nelson Mandela (Humanitarians and Reformers 184). In retaliation, the
ANC asked Mandela to lead a coalition to bring resistance against the Apartheid government and
perform guerrilla warfare tactics. This didn t last very long because in August of 1962 Mandela was
arrested for uprising a riot and escaping the country without permission. Mandela was incarcerated for
twenty seven years in dangerous/inhumane conditions. From the Sharpville massacre to the lengthy
imprisonment, Nelson Mandela faced dangers and challenges from the Apartheid that he had to fight
through and endure exposing the strength that humans really do harbor.
The Sharpville massacre and the unlawful imprisonment of Nelson Mandela can be directly related to
the unlawful Apartheid rule which exposes the viciousness of human nature. The fact that Nelson

Logistics Strategy And Components Of Japan And China
Nowadays, logistics companies are becoming significantly vital in our world and it has a major role
within the economy. However, any logistics company should set logistics strategies in order to achieve
their goals and there are many logistics and supply chain strategies that companies can make.
Therefore, this report will firstly define the logistics strategy and then explain how the car making
components comes into the United Kingdom from Far East particularly Japan and China.
Consequently, will demonstrate what modes of transport used in order to bring car making
components such as, body parts, steering and chassis parts, interior furnishing and wheels and tyres.
Then, it will determine the best transport modes which is cost effective and time efficient. Eventually,
will analyse the advantages and disadvantages of using each modes of transport and illustrate storages
and warehouses for these products.
2 Logistics strategy and components from Japan and China.
Generally, logistics strategy has three different goals such as, cost reduction, capital reduction and
service improvement. Firstly, the cost reduction is strategy which is minimising the variable costs
associated with storage and movement and the great strategy is formulated by estimating different
courses of action, such as, choosing between different warehouse locations or selecting between
different modes of transport. However, the main goal is still to achieve maximum profit. Secondly,
capital reduction

The Aspects Of Medieval Courtly Love In The Middle Ages
Knights in armor, damsels in distress, heroic quests, masquerade balls this was the essence of romance
in the Middle Ages. In medieval European literature, love is for the nobility, chivalrous, and virtuous.
Andreas Capellanus defined courtly love as Love is a certain inborn suffering derived from the sight
of and excessive meditation upon the beauty of the opposite sex, which causes each one to wish above
all things the embraces of the other and by a common desire to carry out all of love s precepts in the
other s embraces. Capellanus 28) In other words love and suffering go hand in hand, much like
modern love. Capellanus gives the Rules of Love (1) governing how men and women should behave
in relationships. Compared to the modern day idea of love, courtly love rarely had a happy ending.
Before the 18th century, marriages were usually business arrangements that brought material
advantages for everyone involved. Romance in the Middle Ages was mainly combined with Chivalry.
In the Legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, King Arthur s Queen. Guinevere,
fell in love with his right hand and fellow knight, Sir Lancelot. This is an example of one of the many
illicit court romances that occurred due to the art of Medieval Courtly Love. Modern day movies and
tv shows that are set in the Middle Ages (such as Narnia, Princess Bride, Galavant) value chivalry. The
audience (mostly women) are supposed to fall in love with the main male character, who is usually a

Summary Of Bram Stoker s Vampire Religion
Often, when we think of certain situations it makes us feel uncomfortable or gives us goosebumps.
The thought of vampires automatically makes me think of blood, fire and evil activities. I have always
wondered why vampires seem to not like rosary. As I read Dracula I noticed that he did not like rosary
which is associated with Christ. After reading Dracula, I was able to determine that it is not the rosary
object itself, but the thought of what the object actually is. Bram Stoker s version of Dracula was
associated with a Christian theme. Dracula was evil which would typically not be associated with
anything Christian like so he was opposed to it. The article that was the most appealing to me relating
to Dracula and religion is called Vampire Religion by Christopher Herbert. The article expressed the
religious symbols in Bram Stoker s Dracula. The article also discussed how the people of Transylvania
were very superstitious. Herbert goes on to discuss how Stoker incorporates Christianity and
vampirism in Dracula. Herbert s article interested me because I noticed how Dracula s actions and
Jonathan Harker s beliefs clashed in the book. Moreover, Herbert s article spoke in depth about the
various religious symbols shown in Stoker s Dracula. Herbert stated, Its characters pray constantly for
the intercession of Almighty God in their struggles with the demonic; they cross themselves, brandish
crucifixes, and invoke the protective powers of communion wafers (Herbert 100).

Education in America Essays
Education in America
Education in the United States is a very crucial part of a person s life. Going to school opens doors and
facilitates the pathway for future individual achievement and economic success. Formal education is a
conscious effort by human society to convey the skills and modes of thought considered essential for
social functioning.
According to the census 2000, the total number of people in school between nursery and high school
is approximately 57 million. Out of those 57 million, roughly 49 million are in public school. In
students 15 17 years old, 30.8 % are below the modal grade. Furthermore, between 10 through 12
graders the annual dropout rate is 4.7%. Continuing education to the college level is a very ... Show

Today, however, it seems as if the public has lost track of the importance of a great educational
system. The main issue today s public schools faces are funding problems. There is not enough money
allocated to support the growing needs of school across the nation.
Most of the other problems the schools face are directly related to the funding issue. Buildings are run
down and sometimes mobile because of the lack of finances. No child wants to go to school in a
dreary building that smells bad. It makes it hard to concentrate and hard to study in buildings such as
this. Every school has some type of sport being played by the students. For some, sports are the only
reason they do not drop out of school. However, if finances are not available then the school should
focus mostly on the education of all of its students as a whole, not just a few who think they cannot
make it without sports. Without the financial issues, schools have even more problems. School
violence is becoming more and more common. School should be a place where children come to learn
and be with their peers, in a very good environment. It should not be a place where children are afraid
to go because of the anger or hurt of other children. This is probably the major issue of the public
today.
No matter what the issue, schools have important issues that they have to work around and with

The Structural Change Of Silver Nannoparticles
Systematic studies on the structural change of silver nanoparticles, which are easy to change shape
and exhibit excellent localized surface plasmon resonance effect, were carried out and the predicted
shape change was compared to the actual nanoparticles. Herein, key information on the alteration of
silver nanoparticles was determined theoretically by a computational method, discrete dipole
approximation (DDA). The galvanic reaction and sulfidation reaction were suggested to improve the
stability of silver nanoprism (AgNP). In addition, the effect of additionally generated spherical
particles, silver nanosphere (AgNS), on the absorbance was studied. Both AgNP and AgNS formed
hollow nanostructure after the galvanic reaction, and these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The rst solution for the scattering and absorption properties of a spherical nanoparticle was provided
by Mie et al. [10,11]. Since the initial development of Mie theory, it is now well known that the strong
optical properties of plasmonic nanoparticles result from an induced coherent oscillation of the free
conduction band electrons within the plasmonic nanoparticle. Thus, in our previous studies [12,13],
bimetallic Au/Ag nanoframes with excellent LSPR feature were prepared via the galvanic replacement
reaction and sulfidation and successfully used as the spectator for Co2+ ion. However, there is no
theoretical interpretation of color changes with structural transformation of Au/Ag nanoframes from
Ag nanoprisms. Therefore, herein, we used a theoretical approach to determine the key information on
the alteration of Ag nanoparticles by using a computational method, discrete dipole approximation
(DDA). It is very adaptive to deal with various particle shapes, not just limited to highly symmetrical
geometries. DDA is used to estimate the optical properties of plasmonic materials responding to
external electrical eld through dipole moments of discretized dipoles [14 17]. The absorbance of the
particles was calculated by the Discrete Dipole Scattering (DDSCAT ver. 7.3), which was used to
design highly stable nanoparticles with absorbance in the visible

Persuasive Speech About Adoption
For those of you who don t know I am adopted. My adoption story may be a little different than other
adoption stories. Things had happened at that point or were going to happen in the future that would
change me. I was adopted at age 4 and my sister was about 1 at the time. My adoption stayed open
which means if I wanted I could still have contact with my birth family. Adoption in itself teaches you
a lot, but sometimes the different things that happen can teach you more.
One day my mom came and found me and my sister and told us we had to go somewhere. We went
and found our shoes and started heading out the door. My sister and I started hoping down the front
steps just about running into a vehicle parked out front. My mom told me and my sister to get in, both
of us were kind of scared but we did it anyways. So me and my sister attempted getting into the big
vehicle, well it may not have been that big, but to us it seemed like it was. We drove for what seemed
like hours till all of a sudden the car stopped. I opened the door and hoped out onto the cold hard
cement. I didn t know where we were at, I had never seen this place before. The people in the car and
my mom told us to go up to the front steps and they will be right behind us. So me and my sister made
our way up the steps and to a big front door. We looked and found a doorbell and chose to push it.
After just a little while the door opened and this younger couple looked down at us with huge smiles
on their faces.

Emerson and Thoreau join the Native Hawaiians. Where is pluralism in democracy? Were the
appropriate procedures being followed?
To clarify the issues addressed by both sides, I had to lie out the reasonable arguments and in doing so;
I had to interview individuals at the hearing that took place at the Hawaii County Building and
listened to what each one of them had to say not only to me but to the Board Council of the State.
When I arrived at the destination of the hearing, many kanakas were circling the building to represent
how they are against the idea of the TMT and especially its location. The first and foremost argument
was: Mauna Kea is most sacred site in Hawaii tradition and culture. Of the four major islands in the
Hawaiian group, tradition states that the highest and most sacred places were located on Maun Wai ale
ale on Kaua i; Mauna Ka ala on Oahu; Mauna Haleakala on Maui; and Mauna Kea on Hawaii.
However, because Mauna Kea was the tallest and the highest point throughout Pacific Polynesia, it
was considered the most sacred of all. It stood tall over the island of Hawaii and was used to host early
Hawaiian traditions such as religion practices, study of the heavens, tool making, meditation source
and many more. In addition to the traditional events taking place on Mauna Kea, the most serious
issue was the fact that families still lived close to it and used it as a

How Contextualism Can Be Used to Disregard Skepticism
Contextualism today, is defined as the truth of a particular knowledge ascription dependent on the
context in which that truth is uttered. Over the past century and decades there have been many great
debates between philosopher s over contextualism and how it can be used to disregard Skepticism. I
agree with Cohen s defense of Contextualism in regard s to both how he answers Skepticism and
Conee s objections. Cohen starts off his defense of Contextualism by first explaining the skeptical
paradox. The skeptical paradox here is the paradox that Cohen sees between Skepticism and
Contextualism Cohen argues that he does see conflict in the paradox, as all the terms can be true
dependent on the context in which it is used. The skeptical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This brings Cohen to the question the fact that in our minds already determining that such strict
skeptical standards don t exist is incorrect as in most cases they can. In essence they are intuitive
judgments, and we can control those judgments. Consequently, this leads Cohen to state that we as
individuals do not know whether our intuitive skeptical judgments are made on correct/false inquiries
about skeptical claims. Cohen describes that even if there is such a correct theory that our skeptical
judgments are correct the question still to be asked/answered is why we have those intuitions and
where such intuitions stem from. It is only then according to Cohen that we may find a rational answer
as a resolution to that paradox. This argument put forth by Cohen takes into account the varied
applications that we don t see in everyday common sense claims. The fact that Cohen believes that
stricter standards can still be applied shows to us that it doesn t depend on the claim and that almost
every claim can be with held to that higher standard of knowledge. To already presume something to a
have lower knowledge standard is something that could be changed when brought into conversation
with individuals who question matter inherently before it can be passed down as knowledge. In
simpler words it doesn t matter what the claim is a stricter skeptical standard can always be applied.

composed mostly of calcite . Back then marble was commonly used in a lot of the sculptures that were

at a certain direction. In the Gianlorenzo sculpture, David is holding a weapon, while having a

anything about either of theses sculpture makes everyone forget what the real reason these sculptures

One difference if that one of the sculptures is of a man nude, while the other has a piece of clothing
covering more of his body. This would be because Gianlorenzo pictured David of being a more
Militarily type of fighter, rather than just being nude like Michelangelo did. Gianlorenzo was more

just staring at a certain area.

not only on the sinking of the ship, but all of the events that happened on the days it were at sail.
Although he wrote nonfiction, he makes it as real as he can with all of the telegrams he provides. I

Why Pro Choice is the Right Choice Abortion is a hot topic in United States politics as of late, and
rightly so. Though religion, costs, maternal psychological damage, and societal morality are often
cited as reasons to oppose abortion, a woman s right to make her own decisions should always prevail.
Abortion should be nationally legalized during the first trimester of pregnancy because Roe V. Wade
has declared abortion a fundamental right to women, fetuses are incapable of feeling pain during the
period when most abortions take place, women should be given the right to choose what happens with
their body, and access to legal abortions decreases the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The code went on to say that even the attempt of an abortion, successful or otherwise, should be
punished in the same sense. The only stipulation was that an abortion may be performed if done with
medical advice to save the life of the mother. Roe believed that these statutes were unconstitutionally
vague, and challenged them in the Supreme Court on grounds of Constitutionality.
Using the First, Fourth, Fifth, Ninth, and Fourteenth amendments, Roe set out to get the laws struck
down. The most important of her arguments were in the fourteenth and ninth amendments, where she
argued that all people had a right to privacy under the fourteenth amendment s concept of personal
liberty and restrictions on state action, and the ninth amendment s concept of reserved rights to the
people. The court ruled in Roe s favor, voiding Texas s abortion laws. The official decision of the
court, written by Justice Harry Blackmun, cites reasons of vagueness, and using precedent set by 1891
case Union Pacific R. Co. v. Botsford, where the supreme court upheld and recognized a right of
personal privacy. In justifying this decision, Blackmun stated that, In varying contexts, the Court or

Our system, on the other hand, has been developing in the Soviet Union for over sixty years, and for

to the creation of such intricate and well developed mechanism for the direct and indirect
manipulation of the entire population that, as a physical power base, it represents something radically
new. That something new was what Havel would call the post totalitarian system. One of Havel s
major criticisms of the communist regime was how it falsified everything and while promising to
serve the people, ruthlessly made the people serve it. The post totalitarian system touches people at
every step, but it does so with its ideological gloves on. This is why life in the system is so thoroughly
permeated with hypocrisy and lies: government by bureaucracy is called popular government; the
working class is enslaved in the name of the working class; the complete degradation of the individual
is presented as his ultimate liberation; depriving people of information is called making it available;
the use of power to manipulate is called the public control of power, and the arbitrary abuse of power
is called observing the legal code, the repression of culture is called its development; etc.. Due to this
the citizens must behave, as they believe everything the government tells them.

Technology In The Cold War Essay
Technologies of the Cold War Technologies played an important role in our lives before and right now.
The development of the science and technology promoted the progress of the society. The wide spread
of using electricity boosted economy around the world; the invention of the telephone made people s
communication become easier; airplanes make people travel longer distances in shorter times. As
same as other time period in the history, during the Cold War, the great inventors from different
countries invented better weapons and things to make their country win the war. Those new weapons

form of the war. Technologies certainly affect the war.
The Cold War period was a time that a lot of countries needed to develop their science and technology.
They needed new weapons to win the war, and their commanders could not confine themselves with
those old tactics that were already known by their enemies. In order to win, lots of changes were made

The Leader And The Follower
Quote from Jerry Rice Today I will do what others won t, so tomorrow I can accomplish what others
can t . Leadership is not a title; it is not a trade, or some sort of hierarchy. Positive leadership is really
something more. For leadership to exist, the leader has to have influence to lead oneself, and to lead
others. Leadership at its core is a process of influence, meaning the influence must be transactional.
The leader must affect the follower by setting goals, and the follower must affect the leader by setting
goals. As the leader and the follower come together in a common understanding, and with a common
sense of purpose, only then can they begin to move together to accomplish a common goal.
Self Assessment: Social motives, Leadership Style, Styles of Conflict, Leader Member Exchange. The
definition of an achievement leader is for management to set challenging goals, assists in training,
emphasize improvement, and expect the highest levels of performance. I personally believe an
achievement leader is one who believes it is the best to get the job done right, by keeping their
employees happy. Positive results from this are creativity in the workplace, departments working
together as a team, motivation within the company, and a low retention rate. The negative results are
too much responsibility for the employee, with no guidance from the leader. Including low
performance skills and failure to do the task that are presented. The modern business environment

The Nazis And The Nazi War Essay
The Nazis, throughout their control of Germany, attempted to rid themselves of what they considered
weak in their army. Weakness to them was any sort of free thinking, defiance, mercy, and anything
they deemed inferior to their ideals. To drive their army to rid their idea of weak, the Nazis provoked
emotions of shame and fear in those associated with weakness. Which can be seen in Education for
Death: The Making of the Nazi when Hans is just a child in a Hitler Youth school and answer what he
felt about a fox eating a rabbit. When Hans says thee poor rabbit he is then promptly yelled at and sent
to sit in the corner while wearing a dunce cap. This humiliation along with his peer s answers of the

German children led them to attempt and weed out the weak by putting them through humiliation or

Your peers teach you cooperation and to deal with conflict and competition with others. I think all
agents of socialization are equally as important but your peers can have a positive or negative
influence on a persons life. In the article, Peer Pressure Is a Risk for Adolescents, it states that,
Relative to adults, adolescents are more susceptible to the influence of their peers in risky situations.
An article that relates to this is, Peer Pressure Influences Gang Behavior . It talks about how peers are
pressuring kids to commit crimes and join gangs. In this story it specifically talks about a boy named
Hubert who lives in the inner city of North Minneapolis. His mother is a single mom who is trying to
show her kids self discipline and moral values. Hubert was an obedient child but him and his family
lived in a low income drug and gang infested area. Hubert was a good child who had a good school
attendance record but he could not escape the poverty surrounding him, he started experiencing
pressure from his peers everyday. According to this article, it states, Peer pressure is one of the most
influential predicaments a youth might encounter. Hubert wanted to please his mother and they had
non material items, this poverty lead Hubert to start shoplifting to help his mother so she did not have
to work so hard. His more fortunate peers had started teasing him about his clothing and it began to

Turning Copper Pennies Into Gold Essay
Chemistry, an age old science that to this day were are still developing and advancing, was once based
off the concept of alchemy, where scientists attempted to turn common metals like lead and copper
into precious ones like gold. These experiments were regarded as magic tricks, with experiments The
preparation of Gold we got to see behind the curtains of their act. For the experiment we would be
attempting to turn common copper pennies into gold, testing whether or not the transformation is
possible. My hypothesis is that the pennies won t turn into gold, as that is impossible, but a copper
alloy of some sort. An alloy is a mixture of two or more metals, or a metal and nonmetal, which is
heated and mixed together. The substance probably has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The zinc and sodium hydroxide solution, when heated formed sodium zincate* (Na2ZnO2) which
when introduced to the copper penny the zincate ions (ZnO2 2) in the solution to bind to the copper of
the penny, after a minute it gets reduced to metallic zinc that coats the penny. This process involved a
chemical change as the sodium zincate formed, and a physical change as it coated the penny, a new
substance was not formed. When the penny was heated over the bunsen burner flame the zinc and
copper combine to form the metallic mixture brass. This process was a chemical change as the copper
and zinc melted together to form a new substance. Copper is a substitutional alloy, meaning that
because the elements Zinc and Copper are close to each other on the periodic table, they are similar in
size and can easily exchange atoms (zinc gives to copper). We could have tested whether or not the
substance was gold by measuring the density of the penny, or by applying nitric acid to the penny and
looking for signs of oxidization, but it was easy to observe that there was no miraculous change from
copper to gold. In conclusion, my hypothesis that the pennies wouldn t turn into gold, but rather a
copper alloy was correct. The substance actually created was not gold but brass, a copper and zinc

What Is The Relationship Between The Gods And The Greek Gods
In Homer s The Odyssey, we see many comparisons of the relationships between the great Greek gods
and the mortals that lay below them. We can use many words to compare the two s relationship;
mutual, parent and childlike, and a sense of early government ruling over its people. Although, what
we see between the Greek gods and mortals is the gods playing the role of a somewhat metaphysical
guide through the story we still have this confliction of whether they are friends, foe s, or neither. We
will be diving deeper into this matter in the following paragraphs below to look at how the gods
themselves reflect the image of a guide for the mortals or even a temporary enemy, how they used
their powers to help the mortals, and with this role the conflicts and agreements that are created
between the two. As said above, in Homer s The Odyssey we see many gods who are helpful to
Odysseus on his epic journey. To be more specific we see Athena the goddess of wisdom the most
taking an interest in protecting and helping Odysseus along his journey. We see the beginning of her
lending out her hand to him when she complains to her father Zeus in front of the other gods on Mt.
Olympus that Odysseus is being held captive on Calypso s island. This is seen when she says,
Remember him, a godly king as kind as a father. / No, he s still languishing on that island, detained /
Against his will by that nymph Calypso. / No way in the world for him to get back to his land (Homer
5. 14 17). When

Abstract
Probabilistic topic modeling provides computational methods for large text data analysis. Today
streaming text mining plays an important role within real time social media mining. Latent Dirichlet
Allocation (LDA) model was developed a decade ago to aid discovery of the hidden thematic structure
in large archives of documents. It is acknowledged by many researchers as the most popular approach
for building topic models. In this study, we discuss topic modeling and more specifically LDA. We
identify speed as one of the major limitations of LDA application in streaming big text data analytics.
The main aim of this study is to enhance inference speed of LDA thereby develop a new inference
method and algorithm. Given the characteristics of this specific research problem, the approach to the
proposed research will follow the experimental model. We will investigate causal relationships using a
test

  • 2. Examples Of Storm In A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings In Marquez s short story A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, a storm is evidently passing through. Pelayo, Elisenda and their family seem to live near an ocean being that crabs have flooded their yard. Their child was sick which they presumed was due to the stench of the thousands of crabs present. Pelayo went to clean up the crab catastrophe only to discover a winged, not so angelic looking man lying face down in the dirt. He begins to believe that the man is an angel who was coming to take his child as if the child was going to pass away, but the angel never quite made it to them. The man did not move so they moved him themselves placing him in their chicken coop. Word traveled quickly about this strange creature being on their property and people began coming from everywhere to check him out for themselves. The local priest decided the man could not be an angel because he didn t have that angelic appearance, but rather that of a person who had been sleeping out on the streets. They are given meaning in the minds of managers through processes of selective attention and simplification (Pfeffer and Salancik 1978). Otherwise managers could not possibly cope with the myriad of trends and events that must be organized, analyzed for patterns, and acted upon. Managers therefore adopt a customer focused or competitor centered perspective to help simplify their environment and decide what information is to be gathered and how it is to be screened and interpreted. Simplification comes at a cost, which is the risk that only a partial and biased picture of reality is created. A competitor centered perspective leads to a preoccupation with costs and controllable activities that can be compared directly with corresponding activities of close rivals. Customer focused approaches have the advantage of examining the full range of competitive choices in light of the customers needs and perceptions of superiority, but lack an obvious connection to activities and variables that are controlled by management. Clearly a balance of the two characteristic perspectives is needed. In practice most businesses tilt in some cases very sharply toward one or the other. A significant complication in the search for a balanced p erspective is the confusing welter of overlapping meanings of competitive advantage. After a brief change it is important to clean the area properly to prevent any infections. A urinary tract infection can occur if a patient stays in their soiled brief for an extended amount of time or if they are not cleansed properly. Another consequence with having a soiled brief is that you could be at risk for skin breakdown. As stated Too much moisture over hydrates the skin, making it weak and more sensitive to friction, shear and breakdown (think about being in the tub or pool for a long time). Primary sources of excess skin moisture include sweating, bowel and bladder accidents, and drainage from wounds (Skin Health: Prevention and Treatment of Skin Breakdown,2011). Before the 18th century, marriages were usually business arrangements that brought material advantages for everyone involved. Romance in the Middle Ages was mainly combined with Chivalry. In the Legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, King Arthur s Queen. Guinevere, fell in love with his right hand and fellow knight, Sir Lancelot. This is an example of one of the many illicit court romances that occurred due to the art of Medieval Courtly Love. Modern day movies and tv shows that are set in the Middle Ages (such as Narnia, Princess Bride, Galavant) value chivalry. • 23. Summary Of Bram Stoker s Vampire Religion Often, when we think of certain situations it makes us feel uncomfortable or gives us goosebumps. The thought of vampires automatically makes me think of blood, fire and evil activities. I have always wondered why vampires seem to not like rosary. As I read Dracula I noticed that he did not like rosary which is associated with Christ. After reading Dracula, I was able to determine that it is not the rosary object itself, but the thought of what the object actually is. Bram Stoker s version of Dracula was associated with a Christian theme. Dracula was evil which would typically not be associated with anything Christian like so he was opposed to it. The article that was the most appealing to me relating to Dracula and religion is called Vampire Religion by Christopher Herbert. The article expressed the religious symbols in Bram Stoker s Dracula. The article also discussed how the people of Transylvania were very superstitious. Herbert goes on to discuss how Stoker incorporates Christianity and vampirism in Dracula. Herbert s article interested me because I noticed how Dracula s actions and Jonathan Harker s beliefs clashed in the book. Moreover, Herbert s article spoke in depth about the various religious symbols shown in Stoker s Dracula. Herbert stated, Its characters pray constantly for the intercession of Almighty God in their struggles with the demonic; they cross themselves, brandish crucifixes, and invoke the protective powers of communion wafers (Herbert 100). ... Going to school opens doors and facilitates the pathway for future individual achievement and economic success. Formal education is a conscious effort by human society to convey the skills and modes of thought considered essential for social functioning. According to the census 2000, the total number of people in school between nursery and high school is approximately 57 million. Out of those 57 million, roughly 49 million are in public school. The main issue today s public schools faces are funding problems. There is not enough money allocated to support the growing needs of school across the nation. Most of the other problems the schools face are directly related to the funding issue. Buildings are run down and sometimes mobile because of the lack of finances. No child wants to go to school in a dreary building that smells bad. It makes it hard to concentrate and hard to study in buildings such as this. Every school has some type of sport being played by the students. For some, sports are the only reason they do not drop out of school. However, if finances are not available then the school should focus mostly on the education of all of its students as a whole, not just a few who think they cannot make it without sports. Without the financial issues, schools have even more problems. School violence is becoming more and more common. School should be a place where children come to learn and be with their peers, in a very good environment. It should not be a place where children are afraid to go because of the anger or hurt of other children. This is probably the major issue of the public today. The Structural Change Of Silver Nannoparticles Systematic studies on the structural change of silver nanoparticles, which are easy to change shape and exhibit excellent localized surface plasmon resonance effect, were carried out and the predicted shape change was compared to the actual nanoparticles. Herein, key information on the alteration of silver nanoparticles was determined theoretically by a computational method, discrete dipole approximation (DDA). The galvanic reaction and sulfidation reaction were suggested to improve the stability of silver nanoprism (AgNP). In addition, the effect of additionally generated spherical particles, silver nanosphere (AgNS), on the absorbance was studied. The rst solution for the scattering and absorption properties of a spherical nanoparticle was provided by Mie et al. [10,11]. Since the initial development of Mie theory, it is now well known that the strong optical properties of plasmonic nanoparticles result from an induced coherent oscillation of the free conduction band electrons within the plasmonic nanoparticle. Thus, in our previous studies [12,13], bimetallic Au/Ag nanoframes with excellent LSPR feature were prepared via the galvanic replacement reaction and sulfidation and successfully used as the spectator for Co2+ ion. However, there is no theoretical interpretation of color changes with structural transformation of Au/Ag nanoframes from Ag nanoprisms. Therefore, herein, we used a theoretical approach to determine the key information on the alteration of Ag nanoparticles by using a computational method, discrete dipole approximation (DDA). It is very adaptive to deal with various particle shapes, not just limited to highly symmetrical geometries. DDA is used to estimate the optical properties of plasmonic materials responding to external electrical eld through dipole moments of discretized dipoles [14 17]. The absorbance of the particles was calculated by the Discrete Dipole Scattering (DDSCAT ver. 7.3), which was used to design highly stable nanoparticles with absorbance in the visible ... Things had happened at that point or were going to happen in the future that would change me. I was adopted at age 4 and my sister was about 1 at the time. My adoption stayed open which means if I wanted I could still have contact with my birth family. Adoption in itself teaches you a lot, but sometimes the different things that happen can teach you more. One day my mom came and found me and my sister and told us we had to go somewhere. We went and found our shoes and started heading out the door. My sister and I started hoping down the front steps just about running into a vehicle parked out front. My mom told me and my sister to get in, both of us were kind of scared but we did it anyways. So me and my sister attempted getting into the big vehicle, well it may not have been that big, but to us it seemed like it was. We drove for what seemed like hours till all of a sudden the car stopped. I opened the door and hoped out onto the cold hard cement. I didn t know where we were at, I had never seen this place before. The people in the car and my mom told us to go up to the front steps and they will be right behind us. How Contextualism Can Be Used to Disregard Skepticism Contextualism today, is defined as the truth of a particular knowledge ascription dependent on the context in which that truth is uttered. Over the past century and decades there have been many great debates between philosopher s over contextualism and how it can be used to disregard Skepticism. I agree with Cohen s defense of Contextualism in regard s to both how he answers Skepticism and Conee s objections. Cohen starts off his defense of Contextualism by first explaining the skeptical paradox. This brings Cohen to the question the fact that in our minds already determining that such strict skeptical standards don t exist is incorrect as in most cases they can. In essence they are intuitive judgments, and we can control those judgments. Consequently, this leads Cohen to state that we as individuals do not know whether our intuitive skeptical judgments are made on correct/false inquiries about skeptical claims. Cohen describes that even if there is such a correct theory that our skeptical judgments are correct the question still to be asked/answered is why we have those intuitions and where such intuitions stem from. It is only then according to Cohen that we may find a rational answer as a resolution to that paradox. This argument put forth by Cohen takes into account the varied applications that we don t see in everyday common sense claims. The fact that Cohen believes that stricter standards can still be applied shows to us that it doesn t depend on the claim and that almost every claim can be with held to that higher standard of knowledge. To already presume something to a have lower knowledge standard is something that could be changed when brought into conversation with individuals who question matter inherently before it can be passed down as knowledge. The most important of her arguments were in the fourteenth and ninth amendments, where she argued that all people had a right to privacy under the fourteenth amendment s concept of personal liberty and restrictions on state action, and the ninth amendment s concept of reserved rights to the people. Leadership is not a title; it is not a trade, or some sort of hierarchy. Positive leadership is really something more. For leadership to exist, the leader has to have influence to lead oneself, and to lead others. Leadership at its core is a process of influence, meaning the influence must be transactional. The leader must affect the follower by setting goals, and the follower must affect the leader by setting goals. As the leader and the follower come together in a common understanding, and with a common sense of purpose, only then can they begin to move together to accomplish a common goal. What Is The Relationship Between The Gods And The Greek Gods In Homer s The Odyssey, we see many comparisons of the relationships between the great Greek gods and the mortals that lay below them. We can use many words to compare the two s relationship; mutual, parent and childlike, and a sense of early government ruling over its people. Although, what we see between the Greek gods and mortals is the gods playing the role of a somewhat metaphysical guide through the story we still have this confliction of whether they are friends, foe s, or neither. We will be diving deeper into this matter in the following paragraphs below to look at how the gods themselves reflect the image of a guide for the mortals or even a temporary enemy, how they used their powers to help the mortals, and with this role the conflicts and agreements that are created between the two. As said above, in Homer s The Odyssey we see many gods who are helpful to Odysseus on his epic journey. To be more specific we see Athena the goddess of wisdom the most taking an interest in protecting and helping Odysseus along his journey. We see the beginning of her lending out her hand to him when she complains to her father Zeus in front of the other gods on Mt. Olympus that Odysseus is being held captive on Calypso s island. This is seen when she says, Remember him, a godly king as kind as a father. / No, he s still languishing on that island, detained / Against his will by that nymph Calypso. / No way in the world for him to get back to his land (Homer 5. 14 17). JOMO KENYATTA UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE AND TECHNOLOGY SCHOOL OF COMPUTING AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Optimized Dynamic Latent Topic Model for Big Text Data Analytics NAME: Geoffrey Mariga Wambugu REGISTRATION NUMBER: CS481 4692/2014 LECTURER: Prof. Waweru Mwangi A thesis proposal submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirement for the Unit SCI 4201 Advanced Research Methodology of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Information Technology at the School of Computing and Information Technology, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology June 2015 Abstract Probabilistic topic modeling provides computational methods for large text data analysis. Today streaming text mining plays an important role within real time social media mining. Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) model was developed a decade ago to aid discovery of the hidden thematic structure in large archives of documents. It is acknowledged by many researchers as the most popular approach for building topic models. In this study, we discuss topic modeling and more specifically LDA. We identify speed as one of the major limitations of LDA application in streaming big text data analytics. The main aim of this study is to enhance inference speed of LDA thereby develop a new inference method and algorithm. Given the characteristics of this specific research problem, the approach to the proposed research will follow the experimental model. We will investigate causal relationships using a test ...
