Bending of Beam Lab Report Essay
1. Objective:
The objective of this experiment is to demonstrate the bending of a bean when loaded at the center of
its length and examine its deflection when positioned in two different ways, when the flat side of the
beam is support and when the thin side is supported. In addition, try to find linear relationship between
the load applied and the deflection of the beam and comparing the experimental deflection with the
theoretical deflection.
If the load is applied at the mid length a=b=L/2 then mid span deflection is: δ = PL3/(48EI).
Where P is the applied force, L is the length of beam, E is the modulus of elasticity of aluminum, and I
is the moment of Inertia.
For a beam of rectangular cross section, say of width w and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The beam was loaded the mid length in 2.745 lbs. increments up to 6.745 lbs. The change in clearance
of every load step was measured and data was recorded.
Case II: The beam was turned around in such way that the shortest side of the cross section is on the
support. The steps described in Case I was repeated and data was recorded.
4. Results:
Following tables and graphs show the result of the experiment. The tables will demonstrate the
experimental and theoretical deflection for each case. The graphs will show the relationship between
the load applied and deflection, in addition to compare the experimental deflection and theoretical
deflection.

Characteristics Of Authoritarianism In The Philippines
Figure 1 describes the perception of the Filipinos on the authoritarian way of governing a country. As
can be seen, the idea that usually goes inside one individual s mind is that
Authoritarianism means having no equal rights having 33.3% making it the majority in the
respondents answers. Having fear and violence and making the decision making of a government
faster and efficient ties at third most perceived idea of Authoritarianism with both having 20% from
the respondents answers. The majority of the answers by the respondents are the bad ideas and traits
that are stereotypically embedded in the term Authoritarianism. It can be seen that the Filipinos will

The results in Figure 1 state that majority of the Filipino respondents see Authoritarianism as a
government system that does not promote equal rights. Therefore, it can be assumed that majority of
the Filipinos believe in the bad ideas and traits that are stereotypically embedded in the term
Authoritarianism. In relation to this it can be explained through the numerous influences that affect the
perspective of the Filipinos as a whole nation. About forty three years ago, the
Philippines experienced the Authoritarian government when the late president Ferdinand Marcos
declared Proclamation No. 1081. He pointed out on the lack of discipline of the Philippine society just
to give justifications for imposing the Martial Law. According to David (2011), the imposition of
Martial Law brought about numerous bad effects on the country and bad perceptions on its people. It
brought fear to the whole nation because the soldiers or the policemen could pick up anybody at any
given time even on the absence of the warrant of arrest.
A simple protest against the government may bring too much chaos during that time. There

The Mead s Milkweed Family Name Is Asclepiadaceae
The Mead s milkweed family name is Asclepiadaceae (milkweeds). Mead Milkweed is a nonwoody
plant with smooth stem, and has milky sap. This is a short lived annual growth. It blooms in late May
to mid June with one or two clusters that produce roughly five fourteen flowers per cluster. The
flowers are yellow green or creamy green with purple tints. However, the seeds mature from July until
around October. A single plant may have multiple stems, which is frequently being mistaken for
individual plants. It takes on average fifteen years for it to grow and develop into a mature adult. After
it reaches the adult stage, every stem produces flowers for two to three years. They can grow to be one
or two feet tall.
Habitats include slightly moist to dry tall grass and upland prairies. Soil conditions in these habitats
range from acid and nutrient poor in Missouri. Conservation efforts include delaying haying until
September, periodic burning of prairies, and rotational grazing. In the past, Mead s milkweed was
throughout much of Missouri. It is presently found in the Osage Plains region and the St. Francois
mountains region of the Ozarks.
Adaptations allow the species to change and adjust slowly to the environment for survival. The sap of
most milkweed plants is toxic. This prevents the plants from being eaten. Some insects, however, can
eat milkweeds or sip on the milkweed nectar, which is not toxic to them. Many populations contain
genetically identical plants from being

Addie Bundren in Faulker s As I Lay Dying Essay

ENGL 3613
25 October 2011
Addie Bundren in Faulkner s As I Lay Dying
Addie Bundren is the mother of the Bundren family, the main subjects of William Faulkner s novel As
I Lay Dying. The novel is centered on her death and burial as her family travels to bury her with her
family in Jefferson. Throughout the novel, the reader gets an understanding of who Addie Bundren is,
but only through other characters memories and perceptions of her; excluding the chapter where Addie
speaks for herself where she gives the reader a true account of her thoughts and feelings about the
world and her family.
Reading Addie s section of the novel, the reader discovers several innermost thoughts and secrets the

He meant nothing. She gives him children because she knows that is her duty as a wife, but she states
she never asked for them (Faulkner 174).
Addie is also disconnected from her children. They are a part of Anse and they violate her aloneness.
When she gives birth to their first son, Cash, she expresses that living is terrible and this [motherhood]
was the answer to it (Faulkner 170). She expresses a desire to kill Anse when she discovers she is
pregnant with their second child, Darl (Faulkner 172). She gives birth to Dewey Dell, to give Anse a
legitimate child after having Jewel, her love child from another man and then Vardaman. Giving him
children, she says And then I could get ready to die (Faulkner 176). The children, just as Anse, she
feels obligated too because it is expected. She never expresses a want for her husband or her children.
Addie is trapped in her life, simply going through the motions until she reaches her death.
The only child she feels emotion for is Jewel. He is not Anse s child, but a love child she has from an
affair with Reverend Whitfield. Jewel is not born out of an obligation to Anse, but from a moment of
passion that Addie does not feel with her husband. This is why she treats him better than her other
children. She calls Jewel her salvation and her cross (Faulkner 168), saying he is both her reward and
her punishment. Jewel does not belong to Anse, meaning that

Conflict Avoidance
In the problem between Trish and Dr. Ramos both sides are using the conflict avoidance approach. Dr.
Ramos exhibits conflict avoidance because she knows that Trish is not performing well at work and
that she does not pay overtime to Trish, but Dr. Ramos does not take the initiative to solve the
problem. Trish exhibits conflict avoidance because one year ago, when she asked Dr. Ramos for a
performance review and a raise of her salary, but Dr. Ramos took six months in providing Trish with
both requests. Trish thought it was not worth it to go all over again with the same process of asking
Dr. Ramos for anything.
Dr. Ramos is using the Traditional Views of Conflicts because she shares the views of corporate
management of the 1930s and 1940s which portrayed that conflict is harmful and must be avoided. Dr.
Ramos thinks that by having a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ramos also support machiavellianism which means that the end justify the means. Dr. Ramos is used
to tell her employees to go back to work in the middle of their unpaid hour break to the solely purpose
of keeping the work flow.
Analysis of Trish
Trish is experiencing the three components of attitudes which are: cognitive which is the beliefs of
Trish, the affective which is the feelings of Trish and the behavioral which is the intention of a Trish.
The first one is cognitive that is about Trish working overtime and not getting reward for that, and she
thinks it is not fair. The second one is affective that is when Trisk begins to dislike Dr. Ramos because
she does not pay her overtime. The third one is behavioral and that is when Trish began putting less
effort at work and her intentions is to look for another job.
Trish is exhibiting deviant productive workplace behavior which violates that organizational norms.
Trish is putting less effort at work, she is working slowly and the situation affected the other
employees because they have to do Trish s job at the end of the day and that is making them to fall

Gandhi s Journey Of Non Violence
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi often referred to as Bapu was born on October 2, 1869. He was
brought up in a middle class family where his father, Karamchand was chief minister of Porbandar
where Gandhi was born as well. Gandhi was highly influenced from his mother, Putlibai who would
fast on daily basis, which explains why Gandhi believed in fasting as well. He grew up around having
Muslim and Christian friends. At the age of 13, he had an arranged marriage with Kasturba and later
had four sons with. Although Gandhi s father wanted him to become a government minister, Gandhi
was more interested in becoming a doctor. In fact, he went to study law abroad in London. Though all
the struggles trying to adapt the western culture, he later became an attorney of law. The film Gandhi
shows different religious beliefs of Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians as well as Gandhi s
journey of non violence. As it starts out Gandhi being thrown out of the train on the way to South
Africa, which shows discrimination towards Hindus for the first time in the film. After the arrival in
South Africa, he gets in touch with other Hindu workers where they decide to burn off the British
government documents that each individual was given. Although, Gandhi was kept on being hit with
such cruelty, he didn t give up. The cruel behavior of British soldiers eventually opened his eyes and
led him to make peace through ahimsa or non violence. He believed that punishment for people is in

The Fourteenth Amendment and Equality Under the Law Essay
The Fourteenth Amendment and Equality Under the Law The Fourteenth Amendment was adopted in
1868 as one of the longest amendments to the Constitution with five parts in total. The most
significant part is section one. In the very first sentence of section one, ? All persons born or
naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, as citizens of the United States
and of the state where in they reside? citizenship was universalized. The Amendment was designed to
prohibit state governments from curtailing the rights of former slaves after the Civil War, however it
has been used to grant all of the personal liberties and rights conveyed in the Bill of Rights. The
Amendment gives definition to citizenship, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of the Fourteenth Amendment was to make citizenship of black individual permanent and
secure. The amendment did not entirely universalize citizenship because it left out the right to vote,
hence the need for the Fifteenth and Nineteenth Amendments granting the right to vote to blacks and
then to women, respectively. The Supreme Court under Justice Miller rejected that the ?amendment?s
privileges and immunity clause incorporated the Bill of Rights, holding that the only rights protected
were access to Washington D.C., and coastal seaports; the right to protection the high seas; the right to
use navigable waters of the United States; the right to assembly and petition; and the privilege of
Habeas Corpus.? It wasn?t until the 1960?s that this amendment really came into play. The
amendment is used to protect our civil rights and liberties as Americans. The Supreme court
recognized in 1925 with Gitlow v. New York that the Bill of Rights was meant for all people, not just
rich, white males. The court held that freedom of speech and of the press were basic personal rights
that were protected by the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, ?No?State shall deprive
any person of life, liberty or property with out due process of law; nor deny to any person..equal
protection of the law.? In the 1960?s the court then applied that clause to those accused of crimes.
They more thoroughly interpreted the Eighth Amendment,

The Ecosystem of the Rainforest
The Ecosystem of the Rainforest
An ecosystem is a relationship among the living and non living organisms in a designated area and the
environment in which they interact with. It includes plants, trees, animals, water, and soil. The
rainforest ecosystem includes a variety of species, plants, and animals. All living organisms in this
ecosystem physically adapt to the rain.
The climate in the rainforest is very humid due the amount of rainfall. A tropical rainforest is very hot
and wet; this type of climate is hit directly by the sun because of its location near the equator. The
closer you are to the equator the solar radiation there is. The average temperature reaches about 77
degrees Fahrenheit. This climates temperature remains ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cutting down trees and bringing industrialization into the rainforest are destroying the natural cycles
of the rainforest. (Causes of Rainforest Destruction, n.d) Bringing commercial buildings into the
rainforest causes extremely unsafe emissions into the rainforest which is killing the wildlife and well
is the plants and trees.
As mentioned before animals and plants play a very important part in making sure that the rainforest
have energy to stay a life. If you take away trees and plants the animals will have nothing to keep
them alive they will not have food or a home to keep them warm, some animals will move on and find
new homes, but if you cut down trees and rip out planes then without all of these things not just
animals but humans also can t survive. If an animal s moves on and finds new home outside the
rainforest then the rainforest will lose the source of what gives it life and energy and that can really
hurt the rainforest. Biotic, meaning of or related to life, are living factors. Plants, animals, fungi,
protist and bacteria are all biotic or living factors. (Library ThinkQuest n.d.) Life is always important
no matter which life it is for the rainforest to keep its natural and pure look animals are needed in
order to keep it from falling apart. Animals adapt to the environment just like people adapt to new
places it takes them time to find the right place, a save place, a

Aggression in Middle School Girls Essay
Aggression in Middle School Girls
It was eight o clock on a cold night in January. Our house rang with giggles and whispers and the
occasional shriek of laughter. In the family room the latest teenie bopper flick was amusing a crowd of
pajama clad seventh graders. The sound of pounding feet from above betrayed that others were having
an impromptu dance party/ pillow fight. The phone book was missing. My little sister, Lily, was
having a sleepover.
Mom had rushed to the store when it was discovered that there was no more ice cream in the freezer.
My father had wisely retreated to the parlor to read. I was in charge. Suddenly, from upstairs I heard a
door slam and raised voices. I gritted my teeth and went to investigate. ... Show more content on

Psychologists and social workers have churned out books, websites, and articles targeting parents,
teachers and girls themselves, offering advice and research on how to handle pubescent girls. While
there are many competing viewpoints, all seem to agree that, contrary to centuries of cross cultural
social stereotypes, girls are, in fact, naturally aggressive creatures. Unlike their male counterparts,
young girls use entirely different forms of aggression, collectively known as subtle aggression or
alternative aggression.
Every afternoon between Monday and Friday, Lily stalks up the driveway from the bus stop and hurls
open the front door while throwing her book bag across the room. About three out of the five
afternoons she stomps in with a melodramatic sigh and crumples into a chair or Mom s arms, weeping.
Some days it is about her clothes Erica says that outfit was frumpy. Other days it is about her size
some girls were giggling in the locker room before gym, it must be because she is fat. Still other days
it is about the math test she aced Ashley called her a teacher s pet know it all.
The reason aggression in girls has gone so long unstudied is that it operates on covert levels. Levels
that often only girls can understand. Levels that often girls don t understand. Levels that rely heavily
on knowledge of pop culture, and fluency in pop language. Levels that require expertise in the

Cardiovascular Disease And Cardiovascular Diseases
According to the WHO, cardiovascular diseases have been the leading cause of death globally
claiming 17 million lives a year, more deaths than all cancer combined (Chiu and Radisic, 2013).
Cardiovascular disease is responsible for a preponderance of health problems and its impact is
expected to grow further as the population ages. In the UK, NHS spends about £7.74 billion as the
expenditure to deal with cardiovascular diseases (Barton et al., 2011). Cardiovascular disease in the
form of myocardial infarction has become the principle cause of death in developed countries,
accounting for nearly 40% of all deaths (http://www.bhf.org.uk/). Congenital heart defects, which
occur in nearly 14 of every 1000 new born children, is another tragic fact that baffles medical industry
(http://www.heart.org/). About 61 million Americans (almost one fourth of the population) live with
cardiovascular diseases, such as coronary heart disease, congenital cardiovascular defects, and
congestive heart failure.
These stated facts very well implicate an imperative need to investigate promising alternative
treatment strategies as well preventive measures. Impairment in cardiac functions, organ (heart) failure
or trigger of compensatory mechanisms (hypertrophy, neurohumoral system activation, autokrine,
paracrine stimulation, etc) are the result of loss in cardiac myocytes predominantly due to myocardial
infarction (Zimmermann and Eschenhagen, 2003). In addition to the traditional treatment of

Pluto And Sun Comparison
Being asked to compare my mother with my father is like being asked to compare Pluto with the Sun.
Both completely separate entities consisting of elements antagonistic to each other. Each containing
their own distinct atmosphere and climate: each having their own characteristic qualities that affect the
life surrounding them or subsequent lack thereof. To be quite honest, I don t understand how two
people that are so fundamentally different could have ever fallen in love, fallen into each other s orbit
rather. Polar opposites each on the respective opposite of the perceived solar system. Pulled together
by gravity, yet when found close together they seemed to wear on each other. They were two entirely

Their polarity suggests as if their relationship was like the Sun was slowly engulfing Pluto into its
gravity. Coexistence was not an option, not a possibility. Thus came their inevitable, fateful, grand
end.
Like the sun, my mother s appearance is bright, recognizable and captivating. Her beauty can be seen
from great lengths and not easily circumvented. Thankfully, I take after her.
Fortunately for me, I did not inherit any of my father s aberrant or a symmetrical physical attributes.
To best describe him I would recommend visualizing something ogre like. Most importantly, their role
in my universe has always been entirely different. Their characteristic qualities have been the defining
factors in how they affect and influence the lives surrounding them. My mother s all encompassing
love, compassion and support has always been present. She is essential to the life surrounding her, she
sustains the needs of those within her gravity. She, as the Sun, has always been close to my earthly
realm always within reach.
Pluto, being so distant, is non essential. It is incapable of affecting Earth from such a far distance;
Pluto is in no way necessary for

Fast forward past the Y2K hysteria and you ll find that the modern student is now using small
electronic devices to cheat while taking tests in the classroom. (Leake, 1995)These devices range from

phones equipped with blue tooth hands free transmitters and camera as well as miniature storage
devices capable of transmitting large amounts of data quickly without notice. The student of today is
not technically illiterate as their parents once were. They are techno geeks capable of doing pretty

Symptoms And Causes Of Child Physical Abuse
Along with symptoms and causes of child physical abuse, physical abuse has long term impacts on
children. According to Adults Surviving Child Abuse (2015), research has found that childhood abuse
contributes to the likelihood of depression, anxiety disorders, addictions, personality disorders, sexual
disorders and suicidal behavior. A recent study found that almost 76% of adults reporting child
physical abuse and neglect have at least one psychiatric disorder in their lifetime and nearly 50% have
three or more psychiatric disorders (Adults Surviving Child Abuse, 2015). Several long term impacts
include decrease performance at school or education, criminal risk taking behaviors, drugs and alcohol
problems, medical diseases, relationships problems, isolation/social disconnection and behavior health
effects. Performance at school or education is decreased since the child attends school less frequently.
A physical abuse child misses school to conceal their injuries. Children that were physically abused
are more likely to engage in drug and alcohol. According to Wisdom and Hiller Sturmhofel (n.d),
experience of being abused as a child may increase a person s risk for alcohol related problems as an
adult. For medical diseases, a study shown in multivariate models controlling for age, sex, childhood
adversities, and family background, childhood physical abuse predicted a graded increase in
depression, anxiety, anger, physical symptoms, and medical diagnoses. Childhood physical

Key to Success in Life
Education is the key to success in life, and teachers make a lasting impact in the lives of their students
Solomon Ortiz
Do you agree with this quotation? Thai society believes that education is the key to make them or their
child success in their life. It s true but not totally true. Education is one part of successful. It s not the
whole thing to make us success.
Most of Thai parents will support or coerce their child to study in famous school such as Triam Udom
Suksa School, Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Elementary School and Satriwitaya School
which they trust that this academic can make their child smarter than other students and they will have
more chance to achieve in admission. Another belief of them is encouraging their child to study in top
three private universities in Thailand as Thammasat University, Chulalongkorn University and
Kasertsart University because it can lead student to find better career so they will have greater future
than student who graduate from public university.
Moreover, most of us believe that the higher education degree you have the greater accomplishment
you will. However, it has someone who doesn t have a chance to study in university because they are
poor so they need to work so hard to find money to stay alive.
As I mention at first that education is not the whole thing to make our life success. Why? Because
some of achievement people don t graduate from private university and some of them have the highest

How Ceramic Cutting Tools Have Been Around For Over 100 Years
David Golding
Term Paper
Mech 4320
Dr. Lewis
Advanced Cutting Materials Ceramic cutting tools have been around for over 100 years. The most
common materials used prior to this were iron and steel. These metals are effective in cutting but have
limitations that ceramics do not. There are many different types of materials used in the production of
ceramic based cutting tools. The production of ceramics have seen various advancements since its
birth, and continues to be more dependable as new technologies are applied to lower cost and boost
efficiency in development. Advanced cutting ceramics is a $30 million (US) industry per the
Department of Energy and has seen increased growth in the last 10 years. Alumina (〖Al〗_2 O_3)
and Silicon Nitride (〖Si〗_3 N_4) are most commonly found in a ceramic cutting material. Their
attributes differ for their own specific purpose, but they all have the same core characteristics. They all
demonstrate elevated hardness, strength, and thermal conductivity. Thermal conductivity is one of the
main advantages in using ceramics over other materials. Ceramics can withstand temperatures over
4000℉ in its operation, while Carbide can only reach 1600℉. Cutting materials at this heat allows for
the material being cut to be softened, allowing for a smoother, easier pass. These high temperatures
are unattainable for carbide tools because they exceed its melting point. Ideal machining temperatures
(e.g., 2200°F for nickel alloys) can be accommodated by

Leif Erikson s Discovery Of Vinland
After spending the winter in Vinland, Leif sailed back to Greenland, and never returned to North
American shores.Erikson was an Icelandic explorer and probably the first European visitor to North
America, 500 years before Christopher Columbus.Leif Erikson (also spelled Ericsson, or Eiriksson)
was the second of three sons of Erik the Red, who established a settlement in Greenland after he was
exiled from Iceland. Leif Erikson s story was recorded in several different sagas, but the accounts they
give are so different it is impossible to be certain of the details of his life.
He is thought to have visited Norway in around 1000 where he was converted to Christianity by Olaf
I, who sent him back to Greenland to convert the settlers there. In one story, on his voyage to
Greenland he sailed off course and arrived in a place he called Vinland , because of the abundant
grapes growing there, and the general fertility of the land. In another the Groenlandia saga he heard of
a land in the west from an Icelandic trader, and went to find it.The precise identity of Vinland remains
uncertain, with various locations on the North American coast identified. In 1963, archaeologists
found ruins of a Viking type settlement at L Anse aux Meadows, in northern Newfoundland, which

Copper And Sulfur Lab Report
Procedure:
A. Reaction between the elements copper and sulfur To begin the lab, a 5 cm copper wire was
obtained and observed. Properties such as luster, malleability, and color were noted. Then, a pencil
was used to make a small coil by wrapping the copper wire against it. The coil was placed in a
crucible afterwards. Sufficient powder sulfur was added in. The crucible was then covered and
conscientiously placed upon a clay triangle on an iron ring. Next, the crucible was heated with the
hottest part of flame at the bottom of it. This was to get a red color to appear at the bottom of the

Comparison Of The Italian Opera, Oratorio, And Cantata
Comparison of the Italian Opera, Oratorio, and Cantata Music during the Baroque period was diverse
and composers began to rebel against the styles that were popular during the Renaissance. In the
Baroque era music was driven by the text and the emotions behind it. Vocal and sacred music
developed greatly during the Baroque period. During the mid 17th century the Italian phenomenon
opera dominated most of the theatres in Europe. Sacred music was deeply influenced by the opera,
contributing to the development of the oratorio and cantata genre. The opera, oratorio, and cantata

An Interview For The Univision Media Network
After Zorro, people spoke Spanish to me for ages. I m Welsh but that movie instantly gave me a new
ethnicity. This was a quote by the actress, Catherine Zeta Jones, when asked to speak Spanish in an
interview for the Univision media network. This is one of the many results that come from of a
complex reality of identity. Individuality is controlled by a social structure that labels a person based
on similarities to a particular ethnic group. Society has the need to shape the ethnic identity of a
person. They are categorized into a homogenized group defined by resemblances of their nationality
and culture. This results in discrimination and oppression. The fact of a person s identity has never
been neutral. The way a person is treated by society, according to how they are perceived, is the cause
of identifying and shaping an identity with social factors that provide a negative outlook on cultural
tolerance. The complex reality of identity is a factor that is influenced by the culture a person was
raised in and handed down to by their families. This causes society to take that factor and turn it into a
way of establishing an identity upon people. Due to a resemblance to an ethnic background, people are
compared according to their social, financial, and behavioral status. Society will always attempt to
identify a person to their best knowledge to feel a sense of belonging and being at a minimal level of
thinking with ethnic groups to be comfortable with racial differences.

American Automotive Industry Environmental Scanning
Environmental scanning is a critical piece of the planning process in the POLC framework and means
that planners must be aware of the critical contingencies facing their organization in terms of
economic conditions, their competitors, and their customers. (Carpenter, M., Bauer, T. (2009).
Introduction to Principles of Management. In Principles of management (p. 9). Nyack, N.Y.: Flat
World Knowledge.) The American auto industry is no exception to this fact and must face the impact
of shifts in global competition and changing consumer expectations on their industry. The global
recession that started in 2007 has impacted the American and worldwide automobile industry by
forcing corporations out of business, into bankruptcies and corporate restructurings. There have also
been changes in the supply chain of components that go into these vehicles due to the same economic
hardships hitting the companies that provide the components. The global demand for automobiles is
rising and emerging markets in the BRIC nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China) as well as an increased
appetite for higher margin vehicles in North America will create opportunities for the auto industry if
it can properly plan and forecast sales growth and consumer demand. Apart from sales volume growth,
four challenges will shape the near and medium term future. The industry response to these challenges
could raise profitability...these challenges will matter much more for established markets than for

Analysis Of Samuel Satti s The Joy Of Exercising In...
Moderation is a trait that could mean to be self controlled, or to do certain activities gradually over
time. Some activities that would require self control could be something as simple as, exercising and
eating. If a person exercises excessively then they are showing an unhealthy addiction that can be
harmful, just as over eating can result in being overweight which is also destructive to the body. Now
conducting oneself moderately can bring a person joy because they will not feel obligated to follow a
strict routine. Samuel Sattin s The Joy of Exercising in Moderation , discusses the importance of
moderation being incorporated into one s life, by using anecdote, first person, and a critical tone. As

might struggle with a slow yet consistent exercise routine. Also, Sattin further articulates that he has
found that his opinion of exercising is changing from not working out because of bad influences, to a
daily easy workout that he can gradually make a habit. He explains revealing his awakening, Exercise
was not about competition. It was about what makes you feel better. After the class I took with her, as
opposed to feeling repulsed, I realized that my body had been asking me to treat it better for a long,
long time. When the author shares his feelings to his change in attitude to moderately exercising, he
explains that he found a sense of delight knowing he was doing something to help him, but not
overdoing it which could be harmful. The use of Sattin s first person provides a close connection

Oppression In Ireland
War, oppression, and massacres. All three took place in English led Ireland during the Victorian Era,
and all three were caused by a few differences in beliefs on how to worship the same God. Mainly due
to the evangelization of St. Patrick, the Irish people were devoutly Catholic while their English rulers
followed a Protestant Church called the Anglican Church of England. Since the Anglican Church was
so dominant in England, the Irish Catholics received very poor treatment from the Protestants in
England causing things like the Irish Potato Famine and the Bloody Sunday and Bloody Friday

The Irish English combat was one of the bloodiest religious wars of all time and led to many deaths.
To make things worse, all of these battles stemmed from a few different beliefs on how to worship the

they fought back. However, all of this acrimony is not distinct to Victorian England; rather, religious
hostility is a common occurrence that extends its reaches into the modern world and always leads to
war torn areas of the world like the Middle East. England s relationship with Ireland shows a prevalent

ER Diagrams and Databases
Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, people have been trying to make their life easier using
machines. This has led to huge technological breakthroughs that brought about computers, cars,
airplanes etc. Nowadays computers are widely used to perform various tasks on users behalf. Another
people s passion since ancient times is to store and preserve information for the generations to come
(libraries, archives). During the 1960 s people s desire to store and retrieve information was combined
with the opportunities that computers offered to create the first computerized database. This turned out
to be a milestone in the way people manage information. It offered many advantages: Data can be
organised easy; it takes up very little physical space; users can search the data for specific information;
The Database can be shared between different users; it can be accessed remotely etc. Due to these
advantages, the new modern way of collecting data gradually replaced paper Databases. It became a
much more cost effective way for organisations and companies to store their data. Currently, computer
databases are being used everywhere: Facebook, online stores such as Amazon and eBay, airports,
hospitals, government institutions etc. Even the libraries that are considered to be old fashioned have
stored their information electronically.
However, databases have to meet some challenges. Nowadays, the purpose of databases is to serve the
demands of large scale companies. These

However, they closed two stores in high crime areas for consistently losing profits, waning investor

The company can use these requests to poll which products that the customers would most likely want
to purchase. This way Company Q can zero in on satisfying their customers and eliminate products
that have the least amount of demand. A second opportunity that presents itself is establishing new
supplier relationships within the local community by generating partnerships between Company Q and
organic producers. By the company forming new relationships with local producers the local economy
is strengthened and new development encouraged in the community. The purchase of organic products
from local vendors will also keep transportation expenses down and Company Q can then forward that
savings to customers by offering lower prices. Company Q would benefit greatly from this action by
offering a broader range of health conscience products and partnering with local suppliers. These
relationships will supplement Company Q in changing their approach to being socially responsible.
Action 3 A third recommendation is to revisit the decision of donating day old products to the area s
local food banks. By denying the request all together and opting to toss out the day old products is
damaging to Company Q s image. The company needs to exhibit accountability to society by
supporting their local food bank illustrating community support by offering day old products to their
local food bank. Company Q should then monitor donations with a checks and balances system which

The Pros And Cons Of Search And Amendments
The Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution states as follows: The right of the people to
be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures,
shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or
affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be
seized. (Fourth Amendment, U.S. Constitution). This amendment was set in place to protect society
from unlawful police practices.
This is a clearly written amendment until we reach the warrant clause of the amendment, and this is
where a great quantity of legal litigation has transpired. The interpretation of probable cause has been
argued in many United States Supreme Court cases over the years, which consequently, provides more
clarity to the question of what constitutes probable cause , as well as reasonable suspicion . This topic
is extremely important because it examines the finely drawn line between the privacy of the individual
and the efficiency of the law.
Search and seizure is a critical part of the law enforcement officer s position and is essential for
locating evidence, but at the same time, must provide a sense of security for the officers should, or
when, they initiate a search. Within the confines of this research analysis, only one of multiple types
of searches will be focused on to exemplify the problem and that is the searches of individuals by law

The Importance Of Effective Communication
Effective Communication Effective communication can be a hard skill to develop. Changes in the way
society communicates has made methods of getting a message to a larger audience easier but it has
also hindered the development of active listening skills. Written communication and effective listening
are two areas that I am continually striving to enhance. Effective Listening De Janasz, Dowd, and
Schneider provided multiple factors that contribute to the inability to listen effectively. I often find it
hard to listen in specific situations such as long meetings, individuals that take a long time to get to the

shortfalls; yet, I never thought about the root causes. Physiological limitations, I work in a large office

needs to be rushed so I can attend to something else. I have started to sit down and have a
conversation with the person I am talking to rather than walking over to the desk and hovering while
we are talking. This is helping me stay focused on the person, rather than seeing the multitude of
situations that are happening around me. Boredom is another factor I am working to overcome;

Benefits Of Internships On The Middle Ages

Get What You Can Internships have been around for a very long time. Even in the medieval ages there
have been signs of internships through the process of apprenticeship. During the Middle Ages humans
did not suddenly become professional blacksmiths. Novices normally went through a process called
apprenticeship. Apprentices would study under their teacher in order to familiarize themselves with
the craft. Apprenticeships typically last three to six years. After successfully completing this process
apprentices go on to become journeymen. The procedure aids beginners in the field of blacksmithing
and helps them make the transition from novice to blacksmith. Internships are today s version of
apprenticeship and just like apprenticeships, internships help ease students from the classroom setting
into the real world workforce.
Internships are an integral part of our society. They not only benefit the trainee but also the company
she or he works for. Through this symbiotic relationship the company gains free labor and the trainees
obtain experience and knowledge. The students that go through internships turn out to be more
experienced and have greater confidence in their abilities. They tend to gain employment faster and
climb the corporate ladder swifter compared to other graduates. There does not seem to be any risks or
downsides to an unpaid internship. However, there are people who criticize unpaid internships calling

true relationships to no relationships among those tested in the field (page 0696). The Null Hypothesis
(Ho) is what you want to disprove, what you want to prove to be not true. The Alternative hypothesis
(HA) on the other hand is what you want to prove to be true. Thus, in scientific research we are
looking to prove that relationships are true or to prove that they are not true. The power of a statistical
test is defined as the ability of the test to lead to a conclusion to accept the HA when in fact, the HA is
true (Wirtz, 2013). Also, since the probability of a statistical study depends on the prior probability,
statistical power, and the level of the observed P value, it means that the probability of a study finding
a true relationship is the power of 1 β (one type two error (Ioannidis, 2005 page 0696). Also, type 1
error is the probability of incorrectly rejecting a null hypothesis that should not be rejected (Wirtz,
2013). Factors that negatively affect the probability of true relationships are small studies, smaller
effect sizes, in a scientific field,

Plato s Theory Of Forms Essay
Plato was a standout amongst the most innovative and persuasive masterminds in Western philosophy,
his impact all through the historical backdrop of philosophy has been monumental. Born around 428
B.C, he researched an extensive variety of topics; however, his Theory of Forms, found in The
Republic, is an essential piece of Plato s philosophy.
This is the center thought behind Plato s theory of forms, from this thought he moves towards
clarifying his universe of forms or ideas. While trying to give the definition to elusive universals,
Plato constructs a Theory of Forms to demonstrate that the sensible universe of particulars are simple
impersonations of this present reality where forms live, autonomous of thought and existing in their
own metaphysical realm that can be retrieved through the mind using reason. To further explain Plato
s theory of the forms, it can essentially be portrayed as otherworldly presences which are found in an
alternate world from the physical world; the realm of forms. There is only one form of everything and
it exists in this world of forms, everything else is just a copy thoughts are impeccable, the copies are
flawed. The structures themselves, as indicated by Plato, are everlasting and endless. For instance, the
concept of beauty remains constant and unchanging. In its place, the beauty we see in the physical
world may be superficial and be seen in colors, animals or even human beings in varying degrees of
beauty; however, these

The Operation Management Approach To Total Quality Management
Operation Management is the study of how people organize themselves for productive enterprise .In
order to be effective and efficient, an operation manager must possess a series of attitudes and skills to
push his/her company forward to reach goals and objectives. Operation management consists of the
four functions, that is, planning, organizing ,controlling and leading. These functions help in the
analysis of the activities done by the organization.
Operation is also about creating goods and services and it is known as the transformation process
which turns a range of inputs into the desired output (services) having the requisite quality level.
Management is the process which makes the combination and transformation of various resources
used in the operations scheme of the organization .If the same concept is extended to services
management, then the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
TQM does not prescribe a number of steps that must be followed in order to achieve high quality but
rather should be considered a framework within which organisations can work.
3.1.2.Just In Time
William J. Stevenson, in Production/Operations Management, defines the term just in time
manufacturing as a repetitive production system in which processing and movement of material and
goods occurs just as they are needed, usually in small batches (Stevenson, 1996). However, just in time
(JIT) is more than an inventory system. JIT manufacturing is a philosophy by which an organization
seeks continually to improve its products and processes by eliminating waste (Ptak, 1997)
3.1.3The Six Sigmas
Six sigma is a quality management approach that places heightenedmanagerial attention on customer
satisfaction and on seeking businessprocess improvements.

Research Paper On Lamingtons
Australia is widely known for its abundant livestock industry and how well their nature is preserved
for these animals to thrive. It is with great care that they tend to the resources of their produce,
ensuring that all bases are covered including the preservation of nature. Imagine the smell of grass and
the cool wind blowing onto your face while sitting on that porch overlooking hordes of cows chewing
in the distance, very soothing right? But if you feel like pairing up this very tranquil activity with
something to eat, then Aussies would definitely offer you a soothing batch of tea, topped up with the
local favorite lamingtons and you re a happy camper.
Lamington is an infamous snack that can be taken either as an accompaniment to your usual morning
coffee or afternoon tea party. Australians also enjoy eating lamington on almost any hour of the day as
it s truly an easy comfort food to deal with. Lamingtons are also popular in the whole of New Zealand,
gaining popularity nowadays all over the world due to some fancy pastry shops tweaking it with their
own versions. The simplicity of lamingtons is highly revered as something that you can always turn to

The filling varies depending on where you are eating your lamington, however, the most common
variations are vanilla, custard and strawberry. The sponge cakes are also blanched with a thin
chocolate sauce for the coconut to stick, turning it into a cistern of sweet flavor goodness in every bite.
This lavish dessert is said to originate from Queensland Governor Lord Lamington who reigned
supreme from 1896 to 1901. As of today, you can have a taste of lamingtons as it is being widely
reproduced for local and exporting purposes. The strong love for lamingtons even paved the way for

The Impact Of Apple s Global Impact On Apple
APPLE S GLOBAL IMPACT The world s leading software and electronics manufacturer Apple has
revolutionized business operations in America. Apple s global ingenuity (Robbins Judge, 2013, p. 35)
or its ability to use comparative advantages to advance its operations is a game changer. In
acknowledging Apple s global stance, we consider the pros and cons for business decisions that propel
the company forward, the expansion of its workforce outside of the United States, and the increase of
employee diligence and flexibility at manufacturing facilities internationally. PROS AND CONS OF
LOCAL AND OVERSEAS LABOR The world economy demands individuals drive innovation.
Apple, has nearly 750,000 employees with only 43,000 of them being a part of the American
workforce (Robbins Judge, 2013). Apple discovered that employing skilled workers outside the
United States to assemble product hardware would position the company to better meet product
demand. Global expansion equips Apple with the ability to meet demand, guarantee its customers a
quality and reliable product, which in return generates billions of dollars in revenues annually.
Although Apple is flourishing, acquiring overseas labor makes United States workers seem
unmotivated and unfit to meet the demands of major companies (Robbins Judge, 2013). This limits the
possibility for American workers to be employed in the world market by other major companies.
However, it is inaccurate that American workers are unfit.

The Reflection Of The Fight For Social Justice
Social justice centers upon the standards of fairness, equality, admiration of diversity, and the
distribution of rights that cover all people. Social justice infers that all people must have equal rights
and opportunities, no matter their ethnicity, religion, or social/economic status. During the 1800s,
people from all walks of life had to deal with some type of social injustice. Whether that be
discrimination against a particular race, slavery, or inequality. Although many social injustices have
diminished over time, it is disappointing to say, that the world is still suffers from injustices such as
poverty, inequality, etc. To achieve social justice, I believe we the people must inquire about what
injustice is active and how it is affecting our community. With that being said, we need to educate
those who are not aware of the injustices that we are still suffering from both locally and globally.
Also as individuals, we can show love to those of other ethnicities, religions, cultures and other
backgrounds that may differ from our own. We as a nation must come together and partake in the fight
for social justice. To start, in order to gain social justice, we must first educate ourselves on the
injustice so we may be able to accurately inform others on the issue. The community cannot make a
positive impact unless we are knowledgeable of the problem. The best way to achieve this goal is by
conducting research, observance of our community and knowing the stats of

  • 2. Bending of Beam Lab Report Essay 1. Objective: The objective of this experiment is to demonstrate the bending of a bean when loaded at the center of its length and examine its deflection when positioned in two different ways, when the flat side of the beam is support and when the thin side is supported. In addition, try to find linear relationship between the load applied and the deflection of the beam and comparing the experimental deflection with the theoretical deflection. If the load is applied at the mid length a=b=L/2 then mid span deflection is: δ = PL3/(48EI). Where P is the applied force, L is the length of beam, E is the modulus of elasticity of aluminum, and I is the moment of Inertia. For a beam of rectangular cross section, say of width w and ... About forty three years ago, the Philippines experienced the Authoritarian government when the late president Ferdinand Marcos declared Proclamation No. 1081. He pointed out on the lack of discipline of the Philippine society just to give justifications for imposing the Martial Law. According to David (2011), the imposition of Martial Law brought about numerous bad effects on the country and bad perceptions on its people. • 5. The Mead s Milkweed Family Name Is Asclepiadaceae The Mead s milkweed family name is Asclepiadaceae (milkweeds). Mead Milkweed is a nonwoody plant with smooth stem, and has milky sap. This is a short lived annual growth. It blooms in late May to mid June with one or two clusters that produce roughly five fourteen flowers per cluster. The flowers are yellow green or creamy green with purple tints. However, the seeds mature from July until around October. A single plant may have multiple stems, which is frequently being mistaken for individual plants. It takes on average fifteen years for it to grow and develop into a mature adult. After it reaches the adult stage, every stem produces flowers for two to three years. They can grow to be one or two feet tall. Habitats include slightly moist to dry tall grass and upland prairies. Soil conditions in these habitats range from acid and nutrient poor in Missouri. Conservation efforts include delaying haying until September, periodic burning of prairies, and rotational grazing. In the past, Mead s milkweed was throughout much of Missouri. It is presently found in the Osage Plains region and the St. Francois mountains region of the Ozarks. Adaptations allow the species to change and adjust slowly to the environment for survival. The sap of most milkweed plants is toxic. This prevents the plants from being eaten. Some insects, however, can eat milkweeds or sip on the milkweed nectar, which is not toxic to them. Many populations contain genetically identical plants from being ... According to Adults Surviving Child Abuse (2015), research has found that childhood abuse contributes to the likelihood of depression, anxiety disorders, addictions, personality disorders, sexual disorders and suicidal behavior. A recent study found that almost 76% of adults reporting child physical abuse and neglect have at least one psychiatric disorder in their lifetime and nearly 50% have three or more psychiatric disorders (Adults Surviving Child Abuse, 2015). Several long term impacts include decrease performance at school or education, criminal risk taking behaviors, drugs and alcohol problems, medical diseases, relationships problems, isolation/social disconnection and behavior health effects. Performance at school or education is decreased since the child attends school less frequently. A physical abuse child misses school to conceal their injuries. How Ceramic Cutting Tools Have Been Around For Over 100 Years David Golding Term Paper Mech 4320 Dr. Lewis Advanced Cutting Materials Ceramic cutting tools have been around for over 100 years. The most common materials used prior to this were iron and steel. These metals are effective in cutting but have limitations that ceramics do not. There are many different types of materials used in the production of ceramic based cutting tools. The production of ceramics have seen various advancements since its birth, and continues to be more dependable as new technologies are applied to lower cost and boost efficiency in development. Advanced cutting ceramics is a $30 million (US) industry per the Department of Energy and has seen increased growth in the last 10 years. Alumina (〖Al〗_2 O_3) and Silicon Nitride (〖Si〗_3 N_4) are most commonly found in a ceramic cutting material. Their attributes differ for their own specific purpose, but they all have the same core characteristics. They all demonstrate elevated hardness, strength, and thermal conductivity. Thermal conductivity is one of the main advantages in using ceramics over other materials. Ceramics can withstand temperatures over 4000℉ in its operation, while Carbide can only reach 1600℉. Cutting materials at this heat allows for the material being cut to be softened, allowing for a smoother, easier pass. These high temperatures are unattainable for carbide tools because they exceed its melting point. Ideal machining temperatures (e.g., 2200°F for nickel alloys) can be accommodated by ... This was a quote by the actress, Catherine Zeta Jones, when asked to speak Spanish in an interview for the Univision media network. This is one of the many results that come from of a complex reality of identity. Individuality is controlled by a social structure that labels a person based on similarities to a particular ethnic group. Society has the need to shape the ethnic identity of a person. Even in the medieval ages there have been signs of internships through the process of apprenticeship. During the Middle Ages humans did not suddenly become professional blacksmiths. Novices normally went through a process called apprenticeship. Apprentices would study under their teacher in order to familiarize themselves with the craft. Apprenticeships typically last three to six years. After successfully completing this process apprentices go on to become journeymen. The procedure aids beginners in the field of blacksmithing and helps them make the transition from novice to blacksmith. Internships are today s version of apprenticeship and just like apprenticeships, internships help ease students from the classroom setting into the real world workforce. Internships are an integral part of our society. They not only benefit the trainee but also the company she or he works for. Through this symbiotic relationship the company gains free labor and the trainees obtain experience and knowledge. The students that go through internships turn out to be more experienced and have greater confidence in their abilities. Part1: According to Ioannidis (2005), the pre study probability of a relationship being true is R/ (R + 1). Where R is the ratio of the number of true relationships to no relationships among those tested in the field (page 0696). The Null Hypothesis (Ho) is what you want to disprove, what you want to prove to be not true. The Alternative hypothesis (HA) on the other hand is what you want to prove to be true. Thus, in scientific research we are looking to prove that relationships are true or to prove that they are not true. The power of a statistical test is defined as the ability of the test to lead to a conclusion to accept the HA when in fact, the HA is true (Wirtz, 2013). Also, since the probability of a statistical study depends on the prior probability, statistical power, and the level of the observed P value, it means that the probability of a study finding a true relationship is the power of 1 β (one type two error (Ioannidis, 2005 page 0696). Also, type 1 error is the probability of incorrectly rejecting a null hypothesis that should not be rejected (Wirtz, 2013). Factors that negatively affect the probability of true relationships are small studies, smaller effect sizes, in a scientific field, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Plato s Theory Of Forms Essay Plato was a standout amongst the most innovative and persuasive masterminds in Western philosophy, his impact all through the historical backdrop of philosophy has been monumental. Born around 428 B.C, he researched an extensive variety of topics; however, his Theory of Forms, found in The Republic, is an essential piece of Plato s philosophy. This is the center thought behind Plato s theory of forms, from this thought he moves towards clarifying his universe of forms or ideas. While trying to give the definition to elusive universals, Plato constructs a Theory of Forms to demonstrate that the sensible universe of particulars are simple impersonations of this present reality where forms live, autonomous of thought and existing in their own metaphysical realm that can be retrieved through the mind using reason. To further explain Plato s theory of the forms, it can essentially be portrayed as otherworldly presences which are found in an alternate world from the physical world; the realm of forms. There is only one form of everything and it exists in this world of forms, everything else is just a copy thoughts are impeccable, the copies are flawed. The structures themselves, as indicated by Plato, are everlasting and endless. For instance, the concept of beauty remains constant and unchanging. In its place, the beauty we see in the physical world may be superficial and be seen in colors, animals or even human beings in varying degrees of beauty; however, these ... Apple s global ingenuity (Robbins Judge, 2013, p. 35) or its ability to use comparative advantages to advance its operations is a game changer. In acknowledging Apple s global stance, we consider the pros and cons for business decisions that propel the company forward, the expansion of its workforce outside of the United States, and the increase of employee diligence and flexibility at manufacturing facilities internationally. • 49. The Reflection Of The Fight For Social Justice Social justice centers upon the standards of fairness, equality, admiration of diversity, and the distribution of rights that cover all people. Social justice infers that all people must have equal rights and opportunities, no matter their ethnicity, religion, or social/economic status. During the 1800s, people from all walks of life had to deal with some type of social injustice. Whether that be discrimination against a particular race, slavery, or inequality. Although many social injustices have diminished over time, it is disappointing to say, that the world is still suffers from injustices such as poverty, inequality, etc. To achieve social justice, I believe we the people must inquire about what injustice is active and how it is affecting our community. With that being said, we need to educate those who are not aware of the injustices that we are still suffering from both locally and globally. Also as individuals, we can show love to those of other ethnicities, religions, cultures and other backgrounds that may differ from our own. We as a nation must come together and partake in the fight for social justice. To start, in order to gain social justice, we must first educate ourselves on the injustice so we may be able to accurately inform others on the issue. The community cannot make a positive impact unless we are knowledgeable of the problem. The best way to achieve this goal is by conducting research, observance of our community and knowing the stats of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
