John Coltrane Essay
John Coltrane
John Coltrane Jazz, taking its roots in African American folk music, has evolved, metamorphosed, and
transposed itself over the last century to become a truly American art form. More than any other type
of music, it places special emphasis on innovative individual interpretation. Instead of relying on a
written score, the musician improvises. For each specific period or style through which jazz has gone
through over the past seventy years, there is almost always a single person who can be credited with
the evolution of that sound. From Thelonius Monk, and his bebop, to Miles Davis cool jazz, from
Dizzy Gillespie s big band to John Coltrane s free jazz; America s music has been developed, and
refined countless times ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within a year, his father, his uncle, and his minister all died. He lost every important male influence in
his life. After graduating from high school in High Point, he moved to Philadelphia in 1943, where he
lived in a small one room apartment and worked as a laborer in a sugar refinery. For a year, Coltrane
attended Ornstein School of Music. Then in 1945, he was drafted into the Navy and sent to Hawaii
where he was assigned to play clarinet in a band called the Melody Makers. Upon his return from
Hawaii a year later, Coltrane launched his music career. With all those years of constant practice in
High Point behind him, possessing a powerful inner strength from being raised in a deeply religious
family, and with a foundation in musical theory and an innate curiosity about life, Coltrane was well
prepared to seriously enter a battle. In the late nineteen forties, Coltrane began playing with several
different R B groups in small bars and clubs around Philadelphia. It became a tradition in many of the
clubs at this time for musicians to walk the bar (i.e. to walk on top of the bar while playing one s
instrument). Coltrane was ashamed of having to go through this display every night. To any serious
musician, it was an incredibly humiliating experience to someone like Coltrane, who was developing a
type of religious fervor for his music, it was

The Cleveland Football Team
Most people born and raised in North East Ohio were born into a long standing tradition of being a
Cleveland sports fan. Cleveland, Ohio has three major sports teams, while each one participates in a
different sport. The fans in this region have had a choice of football, baseball, and basketball, some
fans, are fans of each and every one of these teams, while others may only prefer one or two of these
particular sports. Two out of the three teams has been around for a long time, the football team was
founded in the late 1940s, and the baseball team was founded in the early 1900s. The newcomer to the
city of Cleveland is the basketball team, as they were not established until the early 1970s. No one

Of the three major sports teams in Cleveland, Ohio, the Cleveland Cavalier, for they joined the
National Basketball Association (NBA) in the early 1970. The Cavaliers had a very rocky start with
the first 15 years being a losing season, after losing season. While some fans blamed the owner at the
time, as he had no clue what he wanted to do with the team. But in 1988 the Cavaliers put together a
rather good team, that made it to the playoff. During the first round of the playoff the Cavaliers played
the Chicago Bulls in the best of five series. In the 5th game the Cavaliers were leading with only
second to go in the game, but as with other teams in Cleveland, it would happen again, Michael
Jordon would hit a basket with only 2 seconds left on the clock, this basket would be known as the
shot , as this is a common theme for Cleveland fans, that all heartbreaking plays are given a name.
Again, after the 1988 season the Cavaliers would only have mediocre seasons until after the 2003
draft, as a hometown boy from Akron, Ohio, named LeBron James, was graduating from high school,
although the Cavaliers were not guaranteed that they would have the first draft pick to sign James, but
as fate would have it, the Cavs, ended up winning the draft lottery and signed this young man to play
for the Cavaliers. From the beginning of James career as a basketball player

The Importance Of Outdoor Recreation On The Environment
INTRODUCTION There is no doubt that planet Earth is ever changing. The emergence of new
species, extinction of extant species, rise and fall of climate, and much more are completely natural
occurrences; however, there is one terrifying force that changes the world much faster than most of its
inhabitants can handle: humans. Ever since humans began to populate the Earth, we have been
exploiting natural resources and depleting populations, thus harming countless communities and
ecosystems. As our population continues to increase, we destroy more and more natural habitats,
negatively impacting biological diversity by decreasing the abundance of individuals per species
(Hunter 2007). Many studies in the past have looked into how overexploitation of resources, habitat
loss due to development, and the release of fossil fuels from production result in the decline of
biodiversity (Goulletquer et al. 2014), but one form of human disturbance is often overlooked:
recreation. The increasing popularity of outdoor recreation can affect wildlife in numerous ways,
usually resulting in the avoidance of disturbed habitat (Coppes et al. 2017).
Many studies have been done observing the impact of human disturbance on flagship species in
popular recreational destinations such as forests and oceans. For instance, one study done in the
Southern Black Forest revealed that red deer avoided areas near hiking trails, preferred to live in
dense, undisturbed areas in the forest, and were more active

Social Media Analysis
My first definition is for medium; which is the vehicle of communication or the means in which
communication is enacted. Medium is relevant in society, the workplace, school, politics, and the
world today, because choosing the correct medium is imperative for the success of communication.
We are currently witnessing the importance of medium with the avenue of social media. Social media
has become the vehicle for communication for many people, and the trend is increasing. In society if
you want to participate in social interactions with your friends, co workers, and family, you need to
know how to successfully navigate social media. In the workplace, there are prospective employers

It offers us clues of how to react to certain people and situations. An example is a muslim woman
wearing a hijab. This has been a controversial subject in American society and other nations. Wearing
a hijab is not a part of dominant culture. Therefore, for some people the sight provokes fear, as the
only understanding of the headress is a negative association with islam. Dominant culture exists in
part because people are comforted by the guidelines of a common culture. Our perceptions, however,
may be skewed by dominant culture, like in the instance of the hijab. In the future there will no doubt
be countless other examples of both positive and negative affects of dominant culture and how they
affect opinion and how we communicate with others. But just as the issue of gay marriage, dominant
culture proves to evolve just like

The Political Philosophy of Karl Raimund Popper
Karl Raimund popper (1902 to 1994) was an influential philosopher of science, who philosophized
about society, in much the same way he philosophized about science in a critical spirit. His personal
experience, as an Austrian Jew in the days of the Nazi Anschluss (meaning link up or annexation in
the German language), provided him a wealth of firsthand experience and insights into the nature of
totalitarian governments.
At a point in popper s life he was an enthusiast of Marxist socialism, but that enthusiasm was short
lived as he soon began to develop a skeptical turn of mind towards Marxist socialism. He questioned
the rationale in the sacrifice of human life which communism found necessary to its cause, after the
leaders of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also postulated a broad range of social teleological theories generally called historic ism in
which society was forced into accepting a unilateral version of reality which was wholly certain as to
it present state and future outcomes.
In the defense of the liberal tradition in politics Popper developed certain philosophical positions, to
counter the notions by those philosophers who advocated such illiberal philosophical ideas that could
only lead to the creation of closed societies for the world. The philosophical positions which popper
advanced included a twin edged liberalism , in the sense of peacefully tolerating the proponents of
closed societies in free societies, as long as they stuck to verbal arguments only, and social
engineering by a piecemeal or (gradual) approach to social reforms.
Popper considered the west and the rest of the world endangered by the influence of such thought that
promoted a historicist or collectivist frame of social thought. This sort of frame for social thought he
argued could only lead to the establishment of authoritarian and totalitarian forms of government,
which would in turn suppress and constrain the liberties and lives of people in the long run.

Indi India And India
1. The focal point of this paper is to inform the reader about the country of India. Encompassed in the
two pages are two cultural domains about India and how India relates to the United States. The first
cultural domain discussed is a brief summary of the history of India in paragraph two. Immediately
following the history of India, paragraph three contains the economics and most prominent resources
in India. The fourth paragraph explains India s relation to the United States.
2. For more than 300 years, India known as the Mughal Dynasty, was led by many different emperors.
It was not until the Europeans came around in the 1600s that profitable companies like the East India
Trading Company changed how India conducted business. By the mid 1700s, the East India Trading
Company became extremely powerful and would eventually take control of India s economic system.
In 1857, the Britain conquered the Mughal and French armies and took control of India.1 In the
beginning of the transition, the British employed a more laissez faire approach of tactfulness by
illustrating to the Mughal s they did not intend to overrule their ways of life. Although the adversities
of transferring to the Western norms by Indian populous were of great proportion, the British ensured
cohesiveness by absorbing practices that were already in place in India. The practices the British
melded their Western ideas with were of insignificant divisional political and economic areas.

My Life Changing Experience
From time to time I relive this part of my life with an ashamed perspective. It all begins to come back
to me on the morning of December 16th, I awoke after a sleepless night of exercising, flushing my
system with water and with mixed emotions about even prayed. I went through this because four
nights previous I had raved it up at a party smoking a copious amount of weed. This I consider to be
my life changing experience. Generally speaking I ve always been a good kid with high morals and
couldn t see myself to be tempted to drugs or alcohol, especially since my parents said they d kill me
if they caught me doing that kinda stuff. How I got into this mess begins with me being at a happy
point in my life. I had a friend, a girl (who I ll ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently this led me to experiment with something stronger, which happened to be weed. This
idea first came to me when I would see a couple of my friends smoking over the app Snapchat, while I
was viewing their stories. So me being interested I asked one of my friends if I could join them next
time they did and he agreed. After that first weekend, I was instantly hooked to it and spent the next
weekend smoking weed with them again. For the most part I was originally doing this to help cope
with my best friend leaving but as time worn on I just grew plain addicted. Furthermore this started to
cause me to make more poor decisions. After becoming accustomed to weed, I would start to buy
bottles of hard liquor for myself. This I would drink after school about every other day during the
weekdays. Recalling back, I think the dumbest I ever done was during New Year s Eve, I went to a
hotel and smoked several times within a few hours, then went to a party to drink. At around one o
clock I drove home and I remember how badly I was shaking for how nervous I was to get pulled
over, thankfully I managed to get home successfully. As I was getting more attached to this kind of life
I was progressively feeling really shitty about myself. First was due to the amount of lying I was
telling to my parents and second was how far I had let myself down. All things considered I look back
at the drug test I took for a job interview as a

to the left on the books and press play to continue reading by pages before we need to put a divided or
separate inside the book to remember this where we left at it. And also we can carry it around its
weight less, where some books aren t easy to carry around all time.

technology will bring about new cultural expressions as well as a new form of community exchange.
Human beings have a physical and psychological need to keep one foot in the real world. In today s
age of digital dematerialization, 3D printing technologies remind us of that need. It has become clear
that technological developments have pushed out human society into a state where technology has
become interwoven into our daily lives. 3D printing technologies also have the potential to change the
political order. It is accepted that technologies have political elements and 3D printing may underline
the relationship between technology and economic and political order. Capitalist order was mainly
built upon machines. So could the generalization of this type of machine cause changes in

National Aeronautics and Space Administration Analysis
In 1969, millions of Americans watched in rapture as the first human being set foot on the alien
landscape of the moon. The country rejoiced in this exhibition of our abilities, this application of our
knowledge. Now, with the decimation of NASA s budget, those glory days are over.Government
funding for the space agency is at an all time low, and the space shuttle program is being retired. No
longer can the United States send people to the moon, or into space at all for that matter. The country
that first reached the moon the country that once had the most impressive space program in the world

As can be seen in Figure A below, NASA s costs were extremely low compared to almost every other
government program. Fifty times more money is allocated to social and educational programs than to
NASA, and two years of national military spending alone exceed all of the money received by NASA
since its creation fifty years ago. Not only does the space program s funding pale in significance to the
cost of mass weapons of destruction, it is also a fraction of the money we spend on Hollywood
movies, fast food wrapping, beauty products, and wasted electricity every year. At the moment, NASA
s annual budget could be paid by an insignificant contribution from every American s tax dollar: half a
penny (Tyson). How much would you pay to send people to Mars? How much would you pay to
support the dreams of tomorrow?Space exploration has been an easy target for budget cuts, because it
is often expensive and the benefits are not immediately obvious. At some point our nation began to
care more about saving and cutting taxes than exploring the universe. However, NASA is one of the
few large agencies America has that are dedicated to our long term future; the benefits are real and
worth funding. In addition, the US aerospace industry generally generates an annual profit of 30
billion, on top of providing jobs for thousands of skilled workers and new innovations in science and
technology that promote economic growth ( Fiscal ). Epic space adventures

Observation Report On Coaching Observation
Intro
For the coaching observation project I observed the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Urban
Meyer. I watched him on TV when Ohio State played Penn State. The reason I selected Urban Meyer
to do my coaching observation is because he is the coach I decided to model my coaching philosophy
after. The reason I chose this game specifically is because this is a very important game and I want to
see how he handles his team in high pressure situations.
Review
1. Coaching style used or observed
A coaching style is the specific way a coach leads his team. The coaching style Urban Meyer used was
a laissez faire type coach. A laissez faire type coached is defined as a leader who makes as few
decisions as possible. During the weeks prior ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His non verbal communication was just his facial expressions that his players and assistant coaches
can see. His team was losing for most of the game and you could tell he was not happy. Penn State
returned the opening kick off and he looked disappointed, but he kind of kept his composure. Later in
the 2nd quarter during another kick return that was returned pretty far by Penn State his anger was a
little more visible as he was yelling and appeared very angry. Later once Ohio State started to play
better you could see his attitude change and he got happier. I m not sure if his negative attitude made
his team play worse, it is just something to think about whenever I am a head coach.
3. Reinforcement techniques
Reinforcement techniques are used to increase or decrease a behavior. During a game, especially on
the stage that Urban Meyer is coaching, it is important for his players to play well. Some techniques
that Urban Meyer used to reinforce his players during the game I observed were negative discipline.
His special teams were struggling a lot, especially his kickoff team. They were playing so bad that he
decided to remove multiple players from it and add starters from other positions onto the kick off team
to try and have better success. This shows that if you want to play, you have to perform.
4. Motivation techniques
Motivation techniques are how a coach

extremely popular around the globe. The company PepsiCo was established after the merge of both
Pepsi Cola and Frito Lay in 1965. The original beverage company, Pepsi Cola, was created in the late
nineteenth century. It is known as a mainly beverage focused company, but there are many more
brands and products associated with PepsiCo other than beverages and it has an extremely diverse
portfolio. Some of their brands are Gatorade, Doritos, Quaker, and Lay s. PepsiCo is regarded as
having monopolistic competition despite Pepsi and Coke indefinitely controlling the beverage
industry, making it extremely difficult for others to join the industry. These two companies have large
tension between each other and product differentiation is a large part of their respective competitive
strategies. Although their products are not much different from each other, they are perceived to differ
from each other in order to persuade consumers to lean towards either company.

Point Of Use Of Language In My Last Duchess By Robert...
Blank Verse and Other Verse Forms : Browning was a great metrical artist. He experimented with
number of stanza forms and rhyme schemes. Browning has written My Last Duchess in heroic
couplets but the sense runs so naturally from the one line to the other that the reader hardly remains
conscious of the rhyme. The couplets take the reader along with the virtue of their speed. It is,
therefore, that from the point of view of language, My Last Duchess is on of the most lovable poems
of Browning. One feels like reading the following lines of the poem, over and over again : She had A

My Year At The Winner City Pool
In my eighteen years of my life, this summer has by far been the most memorable. It was filled with
many great memories during these past three months. This summer was filled with a lot of fun,
excitement, nerves, and sadness. Summer started one week early, but other than that it was pretty
much the same as every other summer. I spent a lot of my time working, with my friends and family,
and in the gym.
This year was my fourth year working as a lifeguard at the Winner city pool. Every year I have
worked, we only had to jump in for kids around three times the whole summer, and this year we
jumped in over ten times. I had to jump into the deepest part of the pool, which is twelve feet deep and
grab a little boy who started sinking after he jumped off the diving board. It was not hard because he
was light and I could just grab his arm and pull him to the ladder but it was very scary, and I was a
little shaken up afterwards. Also this year I did my third year of private swimming lessons. Usually I
give around ten to twelve lessons a summer and this year I doubled that and had twenty seven kids for
lessons. Lessons were very hard to schedule this year since I was so busy so working at the pool and
teaching kids basically consumed my whole summer.
Just like any other summer, I was with my friends and family a lot. My friends and I would go to the
outdoor movie theater almost every Sunday night since it was cheap night and we always sat in the
back row and never watched the movie,

The Impact Of Burlesque And Vaudeville On Stand-Up Comedy
The Impact of Burlesque and Vaudeville on Stand up Comedy
The struggle of the funny performer has remained a symbiosis of drive, jealousy, heartbreak, and
triumph existing then as it exists now. Perhaps the only other constant is comedy s unfailing popularity
K. Nesterkoff, 2016 Richard Pryor, arguably one of the greatest stand up comedians of all time, credits
his comedic abilities to many comedians, one being Charlie Chaplin. You may be thinking, how does
Charlie Chaplin, the guy who played The Tramp in silent black and white movies, influence a stand up
comedian like Richard Pryor? Well, you may be surprised to know that all American stand up
comedians are heavily impacted by the performances in the late nineteenth century. During the late
1800 s, vaudeville and burlesque dominated performance venues across the country and developed a
new art form that had never been seen before. Although stand up is one of the only true American art
forms, we cannot forget to credit vaudeville and burlesque performers who paved the way for the rise
of stand up comedy. Believe it or not, nineteenth century burlesque and vaudeville play a major role in
the evolution of what stand up comedy is today. After all, how can we respect the art form of stand up
comedy today without fully understanding how it all began?

Harmonic reduction is possible.
Undesirable harmonics are absent.
Reactive power compensation is possible.
Disadvantages:
Resonance with line impedance occurs.
Tuning frequency is less accurate and requires a lot of calculations.
It cannot be used when harmonic components vary randomly.
Heavy and bulky.

APF is basically of two types. They are (i) Shunt APF (ii) Series APF
(i) Shunt APF
This type of configuration is widely used in active filtering applications. A shunt APF has a
controllable voltage or current source. Fig. 3.4 demonstrates principal configuration of a voltage
source inverter based APF which the most common type of shunt APF today. It is based on the
principle of injection of harmonic current equivalent to the distorted current waveform, thus
eliminating the original distorted current. This is connected in shunt with the distribution line through
an interfacing inductor. Fig. 3.4: Basic configuration of Shunt APF
(ii) Series APF
Basic principle of this type of configuration is isolation of harmonics in between nonlinear load and
source. The basic configuration is similar with shunt APF, except that interfacing inductor is replaced
by an interfacing transformer, where the injection of harmonic voltage occurs. It is otherwise known
as a harmonic isolator, which offers zero impedance to the fundamental and infinite impedance to the
harmonic frequency components. Fig. 3.5 demonstrates the basic configuration of a series APF. Series

Function Of A Value Of X Essay
Up to now if I gave you an equation, and asked you to solve it for x you would be, in general, looking
for a value of x which solved the equation. Given:
x^2+3x+2=0
You can solve this equation to find two values of x.
I could also give you an equation which linked x and y explicitly, and you could find a relationship
between the two which, given a value of x would give you a value of y. You ve been doing this now
for many years. Now we re going to add a hugely powerful tool to our mathematical arsenal. We re
going to allow our equations to include information about gradients of the function...let s see what this
means...
We re going to take everything that you learnt about integration and turn it into a way to model and
understand the world around us. This is a very powerful statement and indeed differential equations
are without a doubt the most powerful mathematical tool we have to understand the behaviour of

Zoos Are An Unsafe Environment For Animals
What do you see when you think of a Zoo? Usually, people think of a place to hang out with family
and friends and are educated on animals. Zoos give an opportunity for city kids or people to see wild
animals. A zoo is a place where animals live in and are put on display for people to view. Zoos travel
back to as early as 2500 B.C., when nobility started to collect exotic animals. In Europe, sixteenth
century, when early explorers traveled to the New World, they brought home all sorts of weird and
wonderful creatures like anteaters and sloths (Sunquist). The first modern zoo, opened in Vienna in
1765, but it was not until the mid to late 1800s that zoos started to become more common. The idea of
displaying wild animals to the public in the park was instantly appealing to the rising middle class of
the Victorian era (Sunquist). Though some may believe zoos are an unsafe environment for animals,
most zoos have benefited animals by educating the public, contributing to the conservation of animals
by developing breeding programs or other conservation oriented programs, and also bringing them
into a safe environment. Some critics may argue that Zoos are a harmful and inhumane method of
commercializing animals. While this may be true, zoos also are very beneficial not just to animals but
to humans because they bring communities together and foster an appreciation of animals. This
exposure motivates and educates people into protecting the animals. Rebecca Madden, a time staff

Ken Sande s The Peace Maker Essay
Ken Sande s The Peace Maker
A biblical guide to resolving personal conflict , this, in a nutshell is what The Peace Maker is all
about. In this critical book review I will be taking topics from the book and giving the reader my
personal views on how I either reacted or related to the topics covered. My goal for this paper is to
give the reader a non biased opinion of The Peace Maker , which was published by Baker Books in
June of 2004.
To first critique a book you must have some background information on the author himself and why
he is qualified to write a book on conflict management through a biblical perspective. Ken Sande is
the author of the book as well as being the president of Peacemaker Ministries, which is a ... Show

To try and persuade someone to believe in religion, if they are not willing listen, is a sure fire way to
start a conflict, which is why I feel this book contradicts itself in some ways. An example of this is
where Sande wrote in chapter 7on page 145:
The apostle Paul could be similarly indirect. Instead of hitting the Athenians head on with their
idolatry, he first engaged them on a point of common interest and moved gradually into the good news
of the one true God.
To me this states that the apostle Paul was trying to convert the Athenians to Christianity because they
believed in a different God, which is in direct contrast with a point made on page 154:
While it is true that we have no right to force out personal opinions on others, we do have a
responsibility to encourage fellow believers to be faithful to God s truths, which are presented in
Scripture.
To understand my point of view on this book you should understand that I am not a religious person
and I am at a point in my life where I am trying to find my own spirituality whether it is Christianity
or some other form of religion. While reading this book I found myself making notes on how I
disagree with certain topics but I didn t realize until I was about half way through that there were
many good points made. Some of the good points I did notice can be found in every chapter

Indian Caste System
The Indian caste system describes the system of social stratification and social restrictions in India in
which social classes are defined by thousands of endogamous hereditary groups, often termed jātis or
castes. Within a jāti, there exist exogamous groups known as gotras, the lineage or clan of an
individual. In a handful of sub castes such as Shakadvipi, endogamy within a gotra is permitted and
alternative mechanisms of restricting endogamy are used (e.g. banning endogamy within a surname).
The Indian caste system involves four castes and outcasted social groups. Although generally
identified with Hinduism, the caste system was also observed among followers of other religions in
the Indian subcontinent, including some groups of Muslims ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Hart stated that the earliest Tamil texts show the existence of what seems definitely to be caste, but
which antedates the Brahmins and the Hindu orthodoxy . He believes that the origins of the caste
system can be seen in the belief system that developed with the agricultural civilization , and was later
profoundly influenced by the Brahmins and the Brahmanical religion . These early Tamil texts also
outline the concept of equality. Saint Valluvar has stated pirapokkum ella uyirkkum , which means all
are equal at birth . Likewise, Saint Auvaiyaar has stated that there are only two castes in the world:
those who contribute negatively and those who contribute positively. From these statements, it can be
inferred that the caste system is a socio economic class system.

Traditionally, although the political power lay with the Kshatriyas, historians portrayed the Brahmins
as custodians and interpreters of Dharma, who enjoyed much prestige and many advantages.[17]

Macbeth is a play in which a Lord and his Lady come into supreme power through acts of injustice
and despicable inhumanities. In the play Macbeth there is no main focal theme that overrules the
others; the play however has several underlying themes, namely there are important themes i.e. good
and evil (like ying and yang), greed and power, guilt and conscience, fear, ambition this leads to the
murder of other people illustrating to the reader that even the most sane of people can result to

women, money, power. These were all three things that tempted Macbeth. Lady Macbeth seems quite
the contrary to how women in Elizabethan England would have been, the only women were able to
obtain power was by influencing their husbands. This was a great advantage of Lady Macbeth s on
which she played and used very successfully. She was able to influence her husband so strongly that
she convinced him willingly into committing murder willingly; Shakespeare displays the strength of
power that women have the ability to possess if they wish, he conveys women as sneaky and willing
to result to extreme tactics to get their own way; it shows just how dangerous women can be.
Shakespeare uses Lady Macbeth as an icon for powerful women.
Lady Macbeth is a complex and intriguing character in Shakespeare s play, Macbeth. She is a difficult
character to embody as her personality seems split between two sides, one that is pure evil, sly and
conniving in contrast to her softer, vulnerable, weak and feminine side. In the play we see her in these
two main ways. The reader may feel a certain animosity towards Lady Macbeth throughout the first
few acts as her personality appears more and more distasteful, in spite of this towards the end she has
a serious breakdown over the guilt that torments her, even in her sleep, regarding her hand in Duncan s
untimely death.
The actions and malevolent tones in which she uses in Act 1 Scene 5 is very shocking, we all have

Apollo 13 Movie Physics Essay
Apollo 13 Essay Have you ever wondered what it would be like to fly in space or work on the crew at
NASA that helps the astronauts get home safely? These two jobs both use many of the laws of
physics. In fact, almost everything they do involves physics. Apollo 13 is a movie that epitomizes
what those jobs are like and how much physics is required. The three main laws of physics in the
movie were Newton s Law of Universal Gravitation, Newton s First Law, and Newton s Third Law.
One main law in Apollo 13 was Newton s Law of Universal Gravitation, defined as F=Gm1m2r2,
where G=6.67×10 11. The first main scene in which this law was needed was when NASA decided
that it would be best for the crew to take a free return trajectory back to ... Show more content on

Another prevalent physics law in Apollo 13 was Newton s First Law, which states that a body will
persist in its state of rest or of uniform motion unless it is acted upon by an external unbalanced force.
In most scenes of Apollo 13 that show the spacecraft in space this law was visually demonstrated. The
Apollo 13 spacecraft was always in uniform motion unless it was acted on by another external
unbalanced force. The most significant force in space that would act on the spacecraft was that of
gravity. Gravity from other large masses, such as the Earth, Moon, and Sun, acted as the external
unbalanced force which changed the spacecraft s speed and direction. If all the gravity in space were
to suddenly disappear and the net force on the spacecraft were to be zero then the Apollo 13 ship
would simply adhere to its uniform motion tangent to its original path. Another group of scenes in
which Newton s First was displayed was when the astronauts moved around in their spacecraft while
in space. It is quite easy to tell from watching how the astronauts moved around in 0g that they were
exhibiting Newton s First Law. If an astronaut in the movie applied a force in one direction to move in
the other that astronaut would then move at a constant velocity (in relation to the ship) as soon as that
force was removed. On the contrary, if no force were applied,

The Causes And Effects Of The Detroit Race Riot Of 1967
Law and Disorder White Americans have discriminated against African Americans ever since the first
white men bringing with them their slaves set foot in what would become the continental United
States. America s roots lie in imperialistic expansionism during which white men took advantage of
those with a darker skin color whom they deemed unequal. The photograph of the devastating
aftermath of the Detroit Race Riot of 1967 vividly captures the white Americans sense of dominance
towards the disenfranchised African Americans. Though the photo lacks an easily identifiable original
source, it has circulated around the internet and now serves as an epitome of the voiceless black
American community s stance in the wake of destruction against the rest of America; it signifies what
is still known as The Great Rebellion in Detroit, as the black Americans expressed their rage against
the failure of American institutions (Flock). The picture s illustration of the rubble among the street,
pillaged stores, and thick black clouds of smoke billowing into the sky conveys the ruins that not only
Detroit suffered, but also African Americans across America. The graphic image depicts the inequality
and oppression black Americans endured in the face of the unscrupulous, corrupt white American
empire. Ultimately, the photo represents United States as an imperial country founded on racial
hierarchy.
Racial divisions have plagued America throughout history. For example, during the 1960s, the

Star Wars: A New Hope and The Outsiders are not as different as most might expect. The pair of

these stories were originally books, before being adapted into movies. The Hero s Journey follows a
narrative pattern that applies to nearly every story line there has ever been. The journey applies to both
Star Wars: A New Hope and The Outsiders. The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton follows a young boy living
in rural Oklahoma, who is part of a gang of teenagers called Greasers. Ponyboy and his friends are

Star Wars: A New Hope, directed by George Lucas, is one of the most famous movies of all time,

The Known World that both characters experience is more analogous than some might think, when

Liability By Rosemarie Garland Thomson
In this article, Rosemarie Garland Thomson mentions four ways people see disability: it is a system
for interpreting bodily variations, the relations between bodies and their environments, practices that
produce both the able bodied and the disabled, and a way of describing the inherent instability of the
embodied self (74). People always stare at the disabled because they couldn t resist it and of curiosity.
Rosemarie said, Staring thus created disability as a state of absolute difference rather than simple one

s standard of a woman. This was a time where women bobbed their hair, ventured out to speakeasies
and dared to shorten their hemlines (Jamie). These types of women were known as flappers. A studies
professor, Rosanna Hertz, said that flappers were rebels, and fashion played an extensive role in
allowing them to express their freedom. Women were supposed to wear clothes that covered their legs,

In 2000 the housing unit density for all of Mercer County was just over 74 houses per square mile.
The city of Sharon has the highest housing density in the entire county with almost 1,997 unites per

The Scientific Revolution And The Enlightenment
Kuda Masunungure Exam 2: Question 2 The Enlightenment was a period characterized by the idea
that people s use of reason could unlock the mysteries of the world around them. Thinkers of the
Enlightenment saw all aspects of the world religion, wealth, and the earth itself as being
understandable through natural laws. The reliance on and application of reason on the different aspects
of the world used by Enlightenment thinkers was directly informed by the Scientific Revolution. In
essence the presentation of and descriptive power of Enlightenment theories and ideas would not have
been possible without the strengthened exploratory and explanatory rigor established in the Scientific
Revolution. In terms of the PISCET categories discussed through the lectures and the text, the most
prevalent threads between the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment is in their intellectual,
economic, and political connections. During the Scientific Revolution, the established ideas came
from Aristotle. Aristotle s conception of the workings of the universe accepted to be a part of Middle
Ages cosmology by professor Jones set the empirical and rational standard that all scientists set their
sights upon. If one s calculations did not fall inline with the Aristotelian standard, it must not have
been correct (Buckowski lecture notes). The revolutionary element came in the form of Ptolemy s
modifications to Aristotle s standards to better fit the phenomena he was observing. It is here

The Cabinet department includes 15 departments that are broken into bureaus, divisions and sections

Shelley s Use of the Modern Prometheus as a Subtitle to the Novel
The idea of the Modern Prometheus is important in the novel in many ways as Frankenstein is widely
known as being the Modern Prometheus . In having said this, Frankenstein is called the modern day
Prometheus as he stole from God something that was not meant to be known by humans and animated
his idea with science and modern day technology. Also, just like Prometheus, Frankenstein and
mankind were punished for these actions. Prometheus caused Zeus to create Pandora who released all
evil, disaster and illnesses to mankind, while Frankenstein would live with the guilt and regret of
having made this monster and releasing it onto ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the difference between their punishments is that Frankenstein was psychologically bound to
alienation, while Prometheus was bound by the Gods. This is also an indicator from Shelley being
that, in ancient times, it was the Gods who controlled everything, and were the ones who held
responsibility for all that happened. But on modern terms, man is in control, even for his own
damnation. This is another reason as to why Frankenstein is the Modern Prometheus .
Throughout the novel, light imagery is used as metaphors for knowledge; an example of this would be
the thunder that Frankenstein saw in the account of the oak tree, which symbolized the light of
inspiration and the light of utter ….destruction . A powerful cousin of light is fire who harms all who
penetrate it, also fire is able to cause a terrible destruction to anything that it is bestowed….upon , as
seen in Frankenstein s account of how the oak tree, that can been seen as symbolizing himself, was
blasted to a stump by the stream of fire issued by the thunder . The association of light and fire then
attaches a sense of harm to the light of knowledge and discovery . One way of seeing the light the
association of light imagery with fire is through the myth of

The National Labor Relations Board Essay
Abstract
The recent decision made by the National Labor Relations Board granted collective bargaining rights
to graduate student workers and researchers. The focus on the decision was primarily based on the
wording or a statutory employee as defined in Section (2)3 of the National Labor Relations Act and
ultimately the reversal of the 2004 Brown University decision against the groups legitimate reasoning
and desire to unionize. University administrators were against student worker unionization and cited
that academy freedom would be encroached on as well as a deteriorated student faculty relationship.
Proponents to the decision cite poor wages, limited access to healthcare and respect as well as
empirical evidence discrediting administrator s claims as making unionization the most viable option.

Analysis Of On Liberty
On Liberty is an essay composed by a man named J.S. Mill who talks about the different types of
liberty given to individuals. The novel in divided up into five chapter stating different liberties or
responsibilities that makes someone a responsible self. There is no real definition of what could be
considered a responsible self but all the duties one has is what composes this person into what Mill
believes one should be. These responsibilities are first to oneself, to others, and finally to society as a
whole.
The responsibilities to oneself are vast and many depending on what the individual wants to consider
as responsibilities. The person must be in tune with all that is happening inside his world so he may
grow. Individuality, is a huge part of a person because it shapes not only his personality but his life. It
is the duty to himself for once he reaches maturity he is to use what he has learned and interpret it to
his beliefs. He learns about traditions and customs from others but may interpret differently, not
suitable to him, or do not educate or develop him (55 56). He must develop a strong character with his
own impulses and desires that has been created and fixed by his culture. The individual must make
sure to take in to account what he prefers before what others want him to do (58). Conformity is also
another duty to oneself, since it is what makes him stand out among the rest. A person can only have

Social class background has a powerful influence on a child s chances of success in the education
system. Children from middle class families on average perform better than children from working
class families and the gap between middle and working class educational achievement gets bigger as
children get older. Internal factors, also known as school factors, these are factors inside the education
system, such as a students subcultures, teacher labeling and language codes also affect a child s
achievement in education.

Labeling theory is also to deterministic; it says that once you re negatively labeled that s it, you ll fail
this isn t always the case. Some sociologist may argue that even though working class students are
often labeled and streamed into low achieving section, they are far from discouraging students, it often
makes students more likely to want to work hard to prove their teachers wrong. This was proved in
research in which black young girls were streamed into lower ability classes, and were then
determined to do better than they would have if they were labeled as high achievers.
Negative labelling and putting students into different streams or bands can cause some pupils to rebel
against school values. As a response to negative labelling and frustration with low status, pupils may
form antmaxine hingstoni school subcultures or vice versa and create a pro school subculture.
Hargreaves said there were two distinctive subcultures emerged within the school; conformist and non
conformist delinquents. Hargreaves found that those in bottom setting and streaming groups were
more maxine hingstonlikely to be non conformist. Woods responded by saying that there are lots of
different reactions to school, but non conformist reactions were more likely to come from working
class student.

Life Review Interview
Aminata Conteh
Professor Sandra Hill Williams
SOWK 505 8 18 2012
Introduction
When I saw Ms. Mary Walker, the word Old does not even cross my mind. I was very surprised when
I found out her age. It seemed strange that a woman of this age could show so much youth, little
wrinkles, mobility, and did not cough every ten seconds as an indicator of good health. Identifying her
as an individual in the 68 + age range seemed misleading but a glance at her salt and pepper afro
provided some proof. A natural inquisitiveness in me wanted to know her secret. Luckily, I was given
an assignment that appeared to be perfectly suitable to ask all the right questions A Life Review. I had
seen Ms. Walker several times in my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As grandmother, she enjoys the position of the matriarch. She has estimated forty grandchildren and
about twenty great grandchildren. Although she has not met all of grandchildren, she is hoping that
sometime during the remainder of her life she will have the opportunity to build relationships with all
of them.
Social/Historical/Environmental Influences
Ms. Walker has lived through several historical events. She recalls the World War II as an event that
affected her early childhood. Her parents received rations of food and clothing from the federal
government, which limited their material possessions. She stated this was the time she first realized
that she was poor. Like other African Americans, the Jim Crow laws affected almost every aspect
social of life during pre civil rights movements. She can remember instances of racism where she was
served food through the back door, using segregated public bathrooms, and reading old school books
that came from white schools. She noted that America has come a long way from the days of Jim
Crow. The vindication of Barack Obama as the first black president of the United States is proof of
America s progression in race relations.
Global Assessment
The support of the family is the most positive aspect of family life. The rise of single parent homes
has produced a negative change in family life stating that single mothers are too often bearing the
burden of raising

The Crossing Cormac Mccarthy Analysis
In the passage from Cormac McCarthy s novel, The Crossing, the narrator describes the main
character s burial of a wolf that was recently killed. It us unclear if he had killed the wolf or had found
her dead, but the experience has a profound effect on the character either way. McCarthy uses several
literary techniques to accurately convey the impact on the protagonist, including detailed diction that
creates powerful visuals in the mind of the reader. Along with this usage of imagery, the author
includes religious and spiritual references to emphasize the deep sadness and wonder felt by the main
character during this passage. From the very beginning of the passage, McCarthy s precise vocabulary
expresses not only the visual experiences, but also what he hears and feels in those moments. The
narrator describes the scenery and the grassy swales beneath tall escarpments . He also goes into
another sense of the protagonist by telling us of the yapping of the coyotes. We can feel the coldness
as he shivers waiting for dawn, and the fire that he built dies down to a few low flames seething over
the coals . However, what most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to this, the author s use of syntax also emphasizes these deep emotions. When the
protagonist hangs a sheet by the fire to dry, it steamed...like a burning scrim standing in the wilderness
where celebrants of some sacred passion had been carried off by rival sects . The protagonist falls
asleep, palms up...like some dozing penitent . When he imagines the wolf s body, he sees her running
in the mountains with all nations of the possible world ordained by God running with her. All of these
religious and spiritual references help express the somber mood and reflect the deep sadness the
protagonist feels, as well as the wonder he feels at these imaginings of this wolf s

Analysis of Sherman Alexie s The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven and Smoke Signals
Sherman Alexie based on some short stories included in his book, The Lone Ranger and Tonto
Fistfight in Heaven, wrote the screenplay for the movie Smoke Signals. Both the movie and the book
portray problems that Indians had to deal with, and how they dealt with it. The book is far more
complex than the movie, showing a wider variation of characters facing different situations.
In the movie there is Victor, the main character, which tries to be the typical Indian, or maybe just a
typical man. He shows just hate towards his father, who left Victor and his mother alone and fled to
Phoenix. The picture Victor has about his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though she said so many good things about his father and about things he was afraid of, Victor
did not want to show any compassion for his father. It is like the story on Real Boys, Inside the World
of Boys: Behind the Mask of Masculinity. Victor was hiding behind this mask so he would not show
his emotions. However, after the accident, he began to think about his father. He understood that no
one could be perfect and he finally saw that he really loved his father.
The book has many short stories that sometimes are connected with others. The book focuses mainly
on showing the degraded Indian society, where everyone is or will be an alcoholic. The story ?The
Only Traffic Signal on the Reservation Doesn?t Flash Red Anymore? (Alexie p. 43 53) is an example
of how the author depicts alcoholism in the Indian society. In this story there is a young Indian that
could have a nice future playing basketball. However, he turns out to be just like most of the other
Indians in his reservation. He was committing crimes and then started drinking.
By reading the book, the author showed me was that the only thing left for the remaining Native
Americans is to drink, since everything they once had has disappeared. Most part of the book is about
Indians having bad experiences in life and facing the loss of their tradition.
The book and the movie are great examples of how a man, or boy, tries to behave like a man that has

Engine Of Evolution Chapter Summaries
Chapter 1 What Is Evolution?
In chapter one of the selected text given it goes over six main components being: evolution,
gradualism, speciation, common ancestry, natural selection, and nonselective mechanisms of
evolutionary change. These six components are broken down from the larger idea that life began with
one species and eventually broke off and evolved into many new and different branches of species.
Even in reading this, I do not believe that we all came from one species. I feel that evolution is true to
an extent that while species do evolve over time (which is the concept of gradualism) we did not all
evolve from one parasitic creature. To start simply the first component evolution in itself to me means
that overtime a creature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main lesson of biogeography is that only evolution can explain the diversity of life on continents
and islands. (Coyne 109).In convergent evolution 3 of the six components discussed in chapter 1 are
working together. These 3 components are common ancestry, speciation, and natural selection. If
evolution did exist, ancestors of species today that lived in the same place, when dug up, should be
fossils that resemble organisms today.
Chapter 5 The Engine of Evolution In this chapter of the selected text for the course they talk of the
three things involved in adaptation. First and foremost, there has to be variation in the population,
second, the variation has to come from genes changes, and the third is that the genetic variation must
affect the probability of offspring. Evolution by selection is a combination of randomness and
lawfulness. (Coyne 118). I also learned that the only difference between natural selection and artificial
selection is that on one hand the changes occurring are being made to happen by a breeder (artificial)
whereas the other is random selection due to environmental and survival changes

Liberal Arts Education Vs Liberal Education
Liberal education consists in reading and analyzing complex intellectual material every day, this kind
of education is intellectually too demanding for most young people and only a few percentiles are
indeed good at it, however, a large proportion of people who are able to assimilate a liberal education
have no interest in doing so. Liberal arts education has been criticized due to misperceptions by
students, society, and media. Ungar points out seven misperceptions about Liberal arts education and
also provides a response for each one of them. Students can make a living with a liberal arts college
degree by finding a job easily in the future, the field of study in liberal arts education is broader, and it
is more affordable.
After students graduate from a liberal arts college, they usually obtain a job within a short period of
time. Although a misconception claims that College graduates are finding it harder to get good jobs
with liberal arts degrees (192), Ungar states that employers are in fact, looking ... Show more content

People believe that The cost of American higher education is spiraling out of control... (196), which in
fact, is a significant concern because economic issues are important when choosing a university. The
net cost of a small liberal arts college can be lower than the net cost of a large public university. For
this reason, a small liberal arts college is the best option. The advantage of a small liberal arts college
goes beyond the net cost to the relation between students and professor, staff and other students. Since
it is smaller, students are able to rich their professors, to get to know them and have a sense of
community (196). Close interaction between faculty member and students...prepares them to develop
high standards for themselves and others . Students can feel more secure and supported in an
environment of family that a small college can

Cause And Effect Of Climate Change
Climate change is one of the biggest news headlines of today. While there are skeptics that believe that
global warming is just a hoax, there are many undeniable phenomenons happening around the world.
The effects of climate change, in the long run, will be catastrophic if it is left alone. In just the past
two months, there have been four hurricanes that made landfall in North America, and a wildfire more
aggressive than has ever been seen before, ripping through California, killing forty people and
leveling almost six thousand structures. Millions of Americans are displaced due to these unusually
aggressive storms and the fires raging throughout California. Arctic species have seen massive
reductions in their populations, with less food to eat, and less mates to breed with. The toxicity of the
air in urban cities and contamination of waters outside these cities is on the rise. If the world keeps
dismissing the importance of climate change, there will be calamitous consequences for the future
generations. The effects of climate change, if not fixed, will be Arctic ice melting, reduction in animal
populations, habitats threatened, and the air toxicity and seasonal allergies to humans. The causes
include the greenhouse effect and air pollution. In the past decade, Americans have seen global
warming in the headlines constantly. About 71 percent of American scientists say that global warming
is happening now (Saad). According to Linda Saad, Forty five percent of Americans

  • 2. John Coltrane Essay John Coltrane John Coltrane Jazz, taking its roots in African American folk music, has evolved, metamorphosed, and transposed itself over the last century to become a truly American art form. More than any other type of music, it places special emphasis on innovative individual interpretation. Instead of relying on a written score, the musician improvises. For each specific period or style through which jazz has gone through over the past seventy years, there is almost always a single person who can be credited with the evolution of that sound. From Thelonius Monk, and his bebop, to Miles Davis cool jazz, from Dizzy Gillespie s big band to John Coltrane s free jazz; America s music has been developed, and refined countless times ... After graduating from high school in High Point, he moved to Philadelphia in 1943, where he lived in a small one room apartment and worked as a laborer in a sugar refinery. For a year, Coltrane attended Ornstein School of Music. Then in 1945, he was drafted into the Navy and sent to Hawaii where he was assigned to play clarinet in a band called the Melody Makers. Upon his return from Hawaii a year later, Coltrane launched his music career. With all those years of constant practice in High Point behind him, possessing a powerful inner strength from being raised in a deeply religious family, and with a foundation in musical theory and an innate curiosity about life, Coltrane was well prepared to seriously enter a battle. In the late nineteen forties, Coltrane began playing with several different R B groups in small bars and clubs around Philadelphia. It became a tradition in many of the clubs at this time for musicians to walk the bar (i.e. to walk on top of the bar while playing one s instrument). Coltrane was ashamed of having to go through this display every night. To any serious musician, it was an incredibly humiliating experience to someone like Coltrane, who was developing a type of religious fervor for his music, it was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cleveland, Ohio has three major sports teams, while each one participates in a different sport. The fans in this region have had a choice of football, baseball, and basketball, some fans, are fans of each and every one of these teams, while others may only prefer one or two of these particular sports. Two out of the three teams has been around for a long time, the football team was founded in the late 1940s, and the baseball team was founded in the early 1900s. The Cavaliers had a very rocky start with the first 15 years being a losing season, after losing season. While some fans blamed the owner at the time, as he had no clue what he wanted to do with the team. But in 1988 the Cavaliers put together a rather good team, that made it to the playoff. During the first round of the playoff the Cavaliers played the Chicago Bulls in the best of five series. In the 5th game the Cavaliers were leading with only second to go in the game, but as with other teams in Cleveland, it would happen again, Michael Jordon would hit a basket with only 2 seconds left on the clock, this basket would be known as the shot , as this is a common theme for Cleveland fans, that all heartbreaking plays are given a name. Again, after the 1988 season the Cavaliers would only have mediocre seasons until after the 2003 draft, as a hometown boy from Akron, Ohio, named LeBron James, was graduating from high school, although the Cavaliers were not guaranteed that they would have the first draft pick to sign James, but as fate would have it, the Cavs, ended up winning the draft lottery and signed this young man to play for the Cavaliers. • 4. The Importance Of Outdoor Recreation On The Environment INTRODUCTION There is no doubt that planet Earth is ever changing. The emergence of new species, extinction of extant species, rise and fall of climate, and much more are completely natural occurrences; however, there is one terrifying force that changes the world much faster than most of its inhabitants can handle: humans. Ever since humans began to populate the Earth, we have been exploiting natural resources and depleting populations, thus harming countless communities and ecosystems. As our population continues to increase, we destroy more and more natural habitats, negatively impacting biological diversity by decreasing the abundance of individuals per species (Hunter 2007). Many studies in the past have looked into how overexploitation of resources, habitat loss due to development, and the release of fossil fuels from production result in the decline of biodiversity (Goulletquer et al. 2014), but one form of human disturbance is often overlooked: recreation. The increasing popularity of outdoor recreation can affect wildlife in numerous ways, usually resulting in the avoidance of disturbed habitat (Coppes et al. 2017). Many studies have been done observing the impact of human disturbance on flagship species in popular recreational destinations such as forests and oceans. For instance, one study done in the Southern Black Forest revealed that red deer avoided areas near hiking trails, preferred to live in dense, undisturbed areas in the forest, and were more active ... Dominant culture exists in part because people are comforted by the guidelines of a common culture. Our perceptions, however, may be skewed by dominant culture, like in the instance of the hijab. • 6. The Political Philosophy of Karl Raimund Popper Karl Raimund popper (1902 to 1994) was an influential philosopher of science, who philosophized about society, in much the same way he philosophized about science in a critical spirit. His personal experience, as an Austrian Jew in the days of the Nazi Anschluss (meaning link up or annexation in the German language), provided him a wealth of firsthand experience and insights into the nature of totalitarian governments. At a point in popper s life he was an enthusiast of Marxist socialism, but that enthusiasm was short lived as he soon began to develop a skeptical turn of mind towards Marxist socialism. He questioned the rationale in the sacrifice of human life which communism found necessary to its cause, after the leaders of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also postulated a broad range of social teleological theories generally called historic ism in which society was forced into accepting a unilateral version of reality which was wholly certain as to it present state and future outcomes. In the defense of the liberal tradition in politics Popper developed certain philosophical positions, to counter the notions by those philosophers who advocated such illiberal philosophical ideas that could only lead to the creation of closed societies for the world. The philosophical positions which popper advanced included a twin edged liberalism , in the sense of peacefully tolerating the proponents of closed societies in free societies, as long as they stuck to verbal arguments only, and social engineering by a piecemeal or (gradual) approach to social reforms. Popper considered the west and the rest of the world endangered by the influence of such thought that promoted a historicist or collectivist frame of social thought. This sort of frame for social thought he argued could only lead to the establishment of authoritarian and totalitarian forms of government, which would in turn suppress and constrain the liberties and lives of people in the long run. Encompassed in the two pages are two cultural domains about India and how India relates to the United States. The first cultural domain discussed is a brief summary of the history of India in paragraph two. Immediately following the history of India, paragraph three contains the economics and most prominent resources in India. The fourth paragraph explains India s relation to the United States. 2. For more than 300 years, India known as the Mughal Dynasty, was led by many different emperors. It was not until the Europeans came around in the 1600s that profitable companies like the East India Trading Company changed how India conducted business. By the mid 1700s, the East India Trading Company became extremely powerful and would eventually take control of India s economic system. In 1857, the Britain conquered the Mughal and French armies and took control of India.1 In the beginning of the transition, the British employed a more laissez faire approach of tactfulness by illustrating to the Mughal s they did not intend to overrule their ways of life. Although the adversities of transferring to the Western norms by Indian populous were of great proportion, the British ensured cohesiveness by absorbing practices that were already in place in India. The practices the British melded their Western ideas with were of insignificant divisional political and economic areas. However, this type of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It all begins to come back to me on the morning of December 16th, I awoke after a sleepless night of exercising, flushing my system with water and with mixed emotions about even prayed. I went through this because four nights previous I had raved it up at a party smoking a copious amount of weed. This I consider to be my life changing experience. Generally speaking I ve always been a good kid with high morals and couldn t see myself to be tempted to drugs or alcohol, especially since my parents said they d kill me if they caught me doing that kinda stuff. Consequently this led me to experiment with something stronger, which happened to be weed. This idea first came to me when I would see a couple of my friends smoking over the app Snapchat, while I was viewing their stories. So me being interested I asked one of my friends if I could join them next time they did and he agreed. After that first weekend, I was instantly hooked to it and spent the next weekend smoking weed with them again. For the most part I was originally doing this to help cope with my best friend leaving but as time worn on I just grew plain addicted. Furthermore this started to cause me to make more poor decisions. After becoming accustomed to weed, I would start to buy bottles of hard liquor for myself. This I would drink after school about every other day during the weekdays. Recalling back, I think the dumbest I ever done was during New Year s Eve, I went to a hotel and smoked several times within a few hours, then went to a party to drink. At around one o clock I drove home and I remember how badly I was shaking for how nervous I was to get pulled over, thankfully I managed to get home successfully. As I was getting more attached to this kind of life I was progressively feeling really shitty about myself. First was due to the amount of lying I was telling to my parents and second was how far I had let myself down. All things considered I look back at the drug test I took for a job interview as a ... Fifty times more money is allocated to social and educational programs than to NASA, and two years of national military spending alone exceed all of the money received by NASA since its creation fifty years ago. Not only does the space program s funding pale in significance to the cost of mass weapons of destruction, it is also a fraction of the money we spend on Hollywood movies, fast food wrapping, beauty products, and wasted electricity every year. At the moment, NASA s annual budget could be paid by an insignificant contribution from every American s tax dollar: half a penny (Tyson). How much would you pay to send people to Mars? How much would you pay to support the dreams of tomorrow?Space exploration has been an easy target for budget cuts, because it is often expensive and the benefits are not immediately obvious. At some point our nation began to care more about saving and cutting taxes than exploring the universe. I watched him on TV when Ohio State played Penn State. The reason I selected Urban Meyer to do my coaching observation is because he is the coach I decided to model my coaching philosophy after. The reason I chose this game specifically is because this is a very important game and I want to see how he handles his team in high pressure situations. Review 1. Coaching style used or observed A coaching style is the specific way a coach leads his team. The coaching style Urban Meyer used was a laissez faire type coach. His non verbal communication was just his facial expressions that his players and assistant coaches can see. His team was losing for most of the game and you could tell he was not happy. Penn State returned the opening kick off and he looked disappointed, but he kind of kept his composure. Later in the 2nd quarter during another kick return that was returned pretty far by Penn State his anger was a little more visible as he was yelling and appeared very angry. Later once Ohio State started to play better you could see his attitude change and he got happier. I m not sure if his negative attitude made his team play worse, it is just something to think about whenever I am a head coach. 3. Reinforcement techniques Reinforcement techniques are used to increase or decrease a behavior. During a game, especially on the stage that Urban Meyer is coaching, it is important for his players to play well. Some techniques that Urban Meyer used to reinforce his players during the game I observed were negative discipline. His special teams were struggling a lot, especially his kickoff team. They were playing so bad that he decided to remove multiple players from it and add starters from other positions onto the kick off team to try and have better success. This shows that if you want to play, you have to perform. 4. Motivation techniques Motivation techniques are how a coach ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He experimented with number of stanza forms and rhyme schemes. This summer was filled with a lot of fun, excitement, nerves, and sadness. Summer started one week early, but other than that it was pretty much the same as every other summer. I spent a lot of my time working, with my friends and family, and in the gym. This year was my fourth year working as a lifeguard at the Winner city pool. Every year I have worked, we only had to jump in for kids around three times the whole summer, and this year we jumped in over ten times. I had to jump into the deepest part of the pool, which is twelve feet deep and grab a little boy who started sinking after he jumped off the diving board. It was not hard because he was light and I could just grab his arm and pull him to the ladder but it was very scary, and I was a little shaken up afterwards. Also this year I did my third year of private swimming lessons. Usually I give around ten to twelve lessons a summer and this year I doubled that and had twenty seven kids for lessons. Lessons were very hard to schedule this year since I was so busy so working at the pool and teaching kids basically consumed my whole summer. Just like any other summer, I was with my friends and family a lot. • 19. The Impact Of Burlesque And Vaudeville On Stand-Up Comedy The Impact of Burlesque and Vaudeville on Stand up Comedy The struggle of the funny performer has remained a symbiosis of drive, jealousy, heartbreak, and triumph existing then as it exists now. Perhaps the only other constant is comedy s unfailing popularity K. Nesterkoff, 2016 Richard Pryor, arguably one of the greatest stand up comedians of all time, credits his comedic abilities to many comedians, one being Charlie Chaplin. You may be thinking, how does Charlie Chaplin, the guy who played The Tramp in silent black and white movies, influence a stand up comedian like Richard Pryor? Well, you may be surprised to know that all American stand up comedians are heavily impacted by the performances in the late nineteenth century. During the late 1800 s, vaudeville and burlesque dominated performance venues across the country and developed a new art form that had never been seen before. Although stand up is one of the only true American art forms, we cannot forget to credit vaudeville and burlesque performers who paved the way for the rise of stand up comedy. Believe it or not, nineteenth century burlesque and vaudeville play a major role in the evolution of what stand up comedy is today. After all, how can we respect the art form of stand up comedy today without fully understanding how it all began? • 21. Function Of A Value Of X Essay Up to now if I gave you an equation, and asked you to solve it for x you would be, in general, looking for a value of x which solved the equation. Given: x^2+3x+2=0 You can solve this equation to find two values of x. I could also give you an equation which linked x and y explicitly, and you could find a relationship between the two which, given a value of x would give you a value of y. You ve been doing this now for many years. Now we re going to add a hugely powerful tool to our mathematical arsenal. We re going to allow our equations to include information about gradients of the function...let s see what this means... We re going to take everything that you learnt about integration and turn it into a way to model and understand the world around us. This is a very powerful statement and indeed differential equations are without a doubt the most powerful mathematical tool we have to understand the behaviour of everything from fundamental particles to populations, economies, weather, flow of wealth, heat, fluids, the motion of planets, the life of stars, the flight of an aircraft, the trajectory of a meteor, the way a pendulum swings, the way a ponytail swings (see paper on this here), the way fish move, the way algae grow, the way a neuron fires, the way a fire spreads...and so much more. • 22. Zoos Are An Unsafe Environment For Animals What do you see when you think of a Zoo? Usually, people think of a place to hang out with family and friends and are educated on animals. Zoos give an opportunity for city kids or people to see wild animals. A zoo is a place where animals live in and are put on display for people to view. Zoos travel back to as early as 2500 B.C., when nobility started to collect exotic animals. In Europe, sixteenth century, when early explorers traveled to the New World, they brought home all sorts of weird and wonderful creatures like anteaters and sloths (Sunquist). The first modern zoo, opened in Vienna in 1765, but it was not until the mid to late 1800s that zoos started to become more common. The idea of displaying wild animals to the public in the park was instantly appealing to the rising middle class of the Victorian era (Sunquist). Though some may believe zoos are an unsafe environment for animals, most zoos have benefited animals by educating the public, contributing to the conservation of animals by developing breeding programs or other conservation oriented programs, and also bringing them into a safe environment. Some critics may argue that Zoos are a harmful and inhumane method of commercializing animals. While this may be true, zoos also are very beneficial not just to animals but to humans because they bring communities together and foster an appreciation of animals. This exposure motivates and educates people into protecting the animals. Rebecca Madden, a time staff ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Instead of hitting the Athenians head on with their idolatry, he first engaged them on a point of common interest and moved gradually into the good news of the one true God. To me this states that the apostle Paul was trying to convert the Athenians to Christianity because they believed in a different God, which is in direct contrast with a point made on page 154: While it is true that we have no right to force out personal opinions on others, we do have a responsibility to encourage fellow believers to be faithful to God s truths, which are presented in Scripture. To understand my point of view on this book you should understand that I am not a religious person and I am at a point in my life where I am trying to find my own spirituality whether it is Christianity or some other form of religion. Indian Caste System The Indian caste system describes the system of social stratification and social restrictions in India in which social classes are defined by thousands of endogamous hereditary groups, often termed jātis or castes. Within a jāti, there exist exogamous groups known as gotras, the lineage or clan of an individual. In a handful of sub castes such as Shakadvipi, endogamy within a gotra is permitted and alternative mechanisms of restricting endogamy are used (e.g. banning endogamy within a surname). The Indian caste system involves four castes and outcasted social groups. These early Tamil texts also outline the concept of equality. Saint Valluvar has stated pirapokkum ella uyirkkum , which means all are equal at birth . These two jobs both use many of the laws of physics. In fact, almost everything they do involves physics. Apollo 13 is a movie that epitomizes what those jobs are like and how much physics is required. The three main laws of physics in the movie were Newton s Law of Universal Gravitation, Newton s First Law, and Newton s Third Law. One main law in Apollo 13 was Newton s Law of Universal Gravitation, defined as F=Gm1m2r2, where G=6.67×10 11. Another prevalent physics law in Apollo 13 was Newton s First Law, which states that a body will persist in its state of rest or of uniform motion unless it is acted upon by an external unbalanced force. In most scenes of Apollo 13 that show the spacecraft in space this law was visually demonstrated. The Apollo 13 spacecraft was always in uniform motion unless it was acted on by another external unbalanced force. The most significant force in space that would act on the spacecraft was that of gravity. Gravity from other large masses, such as the Earth, Moon, and Sun, acted as the external unbalanced force which changed the spacecraft s speed and direction. If all the gravity in space were to suddenly disappear and the net force on the spacecraft were to be zero then the Apollo 13 ship would simply adhere to its uniform motion tangent to its original path. Another group of scenes in which Newton s First was displayed was when the astronauts moved around in their spacecraft while in space. It is quite easy to tell from watching how the astronauts moved around in 0g that they were exhibiting Newton s First Law. America s roots lie in imperialistic expansionism during which white men took advantage of those with a darker skin color whom they deemed unequal. The photograph of the devastating aftermath of the Detroit Race Riot of 1967 vividly captures the white Americans sense of dominance towards the disenfranchised African Americans. Though the photo lacks an easily identifiable original source, it has circulated around the internet and now serves as an epitome of the voiceless black American community s stance in the wake of destruction against the rest of America; it signifies what is still known as The Great Rebellion in Detroit, as the black Americans expressed their rage against the failure of American institutions (Flock). The picture s illustration of the rubble among the street, pillaged stores, and thick black clouds of smoke billowing into the sky conveys the ruins that not only Detroit suffered, but also African Americans across America. The graphic image depicts the inequality and oppression black Americans endured in the face of the unscrupulous, corrupt white American empire. Life Interview Review Essay Life Review Interview Aminata Conteh Professor Sandra Hill Williams SOWK 505 8 18 2012 Introduction When I saw Ms. Mary Walker, the word Old does not even cross my mind. I was very surprised when I found out her age. It seemed strange that a woman of this age could show so much youth, little wrinkles, mobility, and did not cough every ten seconds as an indicator of good health. Identifying her as an individual in the 68 + age range seemed misleading but a glance at her salt and pepper afro provided some proof. A natural inquisitiveness in me wanted to know her secret. Her parents received rations of food and clothing from the federal government, which limited their material possessions. She stated this was the time she first realized that she was poor. Like other African Americans, the Jim Crow laws affected almost every aspect social of life during pre civil rights movements. She can remember instances of racism where she was served food through the back door, using segregated public bathrooms, and reading old school books that came from white schools. She noted that America has come a long way from the days of Jim Crow. The vindication of Barack Obama as the first black president of the United States is proof of America s progression in race relations. • 46. The Crossing Cormac Mccarthy Analysis In the passage from Cormac McCarthy s novel, The Crossing, the narrator describes the main character s burial of a wolf that was recently killed. It us unclear if he had killed the wolf or had found her dead, but the experience has a profound effect on the character either way. McCarthy uses several literary techniques to accurately convey the impact on the protagonist, including detailed diction that creates powerful visuals in the mind of the reader. Along with this usage of imagery, the author includes religious and spiritual references to emphasize the deep sadness and wonder felt by the main character during this passage. From the very beginning of the passage, McCarthy s precise vocabulary expresses not only the visual experiences, but also what he hears and feels in those moments. The narrator describes the scenery and the grassy swales beneath tall escarpments . He also goes into another sense of the protagonist by telling us of the yapping of the coyotes. We can feel the coldness as he shivers waiting for dawn, and the fire that he built dies down to a few low flames seething over the coals . However, what most ... Both the movie and the book portray problems that Indians had to deal with, and how they dealt with it. The book is far more complex than the movie, showing a wider variation of characters facing different situations. However, after the accident, he began to think about his father. He understood that no one could be perfect and he finally saw that he really loved his father. The book has many short stories that sometimes are connected with others. The book focuses mainly on showing the degraded Indian society, where everyone is or will be an alcoholic. The story ?The Only Traffic Signal on the Reservation Doesn?t Flash Red Anymore? (Alexie p. 43 53) is an example of how the author depicts alcoholism in the Indian society. In this story there is a young Indian that could have a nice future playing basketball. However, he turns out to be just like most of the other Indians in his reservation. He was committing crimes and then started drinking. By reading the book, the author showed me was that the only thing left for the remaining Native Americans is to drink, since everything they once had has disappeared. • 48. Engine Of Evolution Chapter Summaries Chapter 1 What Is Evolution? In chapter one of the selected text given it goes over six main components being: evolution, gradualism, speciation, common ancestry, natural selection, and nonselective mechanisms of evolutionary change. These six components are broken down from the larger idea that life began with one species and eventually broke off and evolved into many new and different branches of species. Even in reading this, I do not believe that we all came from one species. I feel that evolution is true to an extent that while species do evolve over time (which is the concept of gradualism) we did not all evolve from one parasitic creature. If evolution did exist, ancestors of species today that lived in the same place, when dug up, should be fossils that resemble organisms today. Chapter 5 The Engine of Evolution In this chapter of the selected text for the course they talk of the three things involved in adaptation. First and foremost, there has to be variation in the population, second, the variation has to come from genes changes, and the third is that the genetic variation must affect the probability of offspring. Evolution by selection is a combination of randomness and lawfulness. (Coyne 118). I also learned that the only difference between natural selection and artificial selection is that on one hand the changes occurring are being made to happen by a breeder (artificial) whereas the other is random selection due to environmental and survival changes ... • 50. Cause And Effect Of Climate Change Climate change is one of the biggest news headlines of today. While there are skeptics that believe that global warming is just a hoax, there are many undeniable phenomenons happening around the world. The effects of climate change, in the long run, will be catastrophic if it is left alone. In just the past two months, there have been four hurricanes that made landfall in North America, and a wildfire more aggressive than has ever been seen before, ripping through California, killing forty people and leveling almost six thousand structures. Millions of Americans are displaced due to these unusually aggressive storms and the fires raging throughout California. Arctic species have seen massive reductions in their populations, with less food to eat, and less mates to breed with. The toxicity of the air in urban cities and contamination of waters outside these cities is on the rise. If the world keeps dismissing the importance of climate change, there will be calamitous consequences for the future generations. The effects of climate change, if not fixed, will be Arctic ice melting, reduction in animal populations, habitats threatened, and the air toxicity and seasonal allergies to humans. The causes include the greenhouse effect and air pollution. In the past decade, Americans have seen global warming in the headlines constantly. About 71 percent of American scientists say that global warming is happening now (Saad). According to Linda Saad, Forty five percent of Americans ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
