The Great Gatsby Essay The American
Dream
Crafting an essay on "The Great Gatsby" and its exploration of the American Dream is no simple
task. The complexity arises from the multifaceted nature of the novel itself and the intricate
layers embedded within the theme of the American Dream. F. Scott Fitzgerald's work delves into
the illusionary pursuit of prosperity, love, and happiness in the 1920s, showcasing the hollowness
that often accompanies these aspirations.
To successfully navigate through this essay, one must have a profound understanding of the
characters, plot intricacies, and the historical context. Analyzing the symbolism, motifs, and
Fitzgerald's writing style adds an additional layer of complexity. Moreover, one must be able to
critically assess the characters' motivations and actions, linking them back to the broader concept
of the American Dream.
Additionally, the essay should explore the socio-economic backdrop of the Roaring Twenties,
understanding how the era's excesses and superficiality contribute to the thematic elements of
the novel. The skillful incorporation of relevant quotes and textual evidence is crucial for
substantiating arguments and providing a thorough analysis.
Despite these challenges, writing an essay on "The Great Gatsby" and the American Dream is
also an intellectually stimulating endeavor. It allows the writer to engage with timeless themes
that continue to resonate in contemporary society. The opportunity to unravel the intricacies of
Fitzgerald's narrative and offer fresh insights makes the task both demanding and rewarding.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on "The Great Gatsby" and the American Dream demands a
deep understanding of the novel, its characters, and the historical context. It requires the ability
to analyze intricate literary devices, articulate complex ideas, and weave a coherent narrative.
While challenging, the process offers a unique opportunity to explore the nuances of a classic
work of literature and to contribute one's perspectives to the ongoing conversation surrounding
the American Dream.

Nt1310 Unit 3 Assignment Of Encryption Techniques
1.Type of operations used for transforming plaintext to cipher text. All encryption
algorithms are based on two general principles. Those are substitution, in which each
element in the plain text is mapped into another element and transposition in which
elements in the plaintext are rearranged. The fundamental requirement is that no
information be lost. Most systems referred to as product systems, involved multiple
stages of substitution and transposition [2].
2.The number of keys used: If sender and receiver use the same key, the system is
referred to as symmetric, single key or secret key conventional encryption. If the
sender and the receiver each uses a different key the system is referred to as
asymmetric, two key, or public key encryption
Within A Dream Argument
Edgar Allen Poe, a poet whose sanity was often debated, wrote the following poem,
which questioned the very nature of reality itself: A Dream within a Dream . Each
of the two stanzas illustrates a one sided conversation with two subtly differentiated
audiences. The first seems to be an argumentative statement of which the speaker is
presenting to someone lacking his worldview, who likely regards the speaker as less
than sane. Although, despite his assertions, the speaker himself does not seem to
comprehend the magnitude of their content until the second stanza, where he is
depicted to be symbolically losing his grasp on material reality. Knowing this, A
Dream within a Dream can be appreciated as an expression of Poe s philosophical
solipsism,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shift, although somewhat prominent in the transition of stanzas, is clearly
disclosed with the repetition of the phrase at the end of each. With the simple
addition of one word, the nearly identical couplet is transformed from an
argumentative statement to an existential question, weighted with solipsistic despair.
Although he was previously aware of his own worldview, it was not until he argued
for its sake that he realized the emotional magnitude of such philosophy. The second
stanza serves as an avenue of self revelation for the speaker, suddenly frantic for
material fulfillment in his existence devoid of
Parallelism In Grapes Of Wrath

Renewal in The Grapes of Wrath
John Steinbeck usually uses California and the Salinas valley as his setting and is
usually placed in the 30s when the great depression occurred. The Grapes of Wrath
is about a family living in Oklahoma and they are farmers during the period called
the dustbowl in which culture was rough because there were droughts and
conditions were not suitable for farming. This family, because they are not doing
too well, decide to move to California to find jobs and dignity. The author writes
about the struggle of a family during and Great Depression and also the struggle of
each individual as their lives are being torn apart. He not only shows how they go
through these hardships, but also how they will overcome them. In John Steinbeck s
novel, The Grapes of Wrath, he argues that all who follow the ways of the Bible will
become renewed at the end. He uses religion and parallelism in order to bring to light,
the chance of hope that is evident within dire circumstances, and project changes
within people during turmoil.
The Grapes of Wrath incorporates parallels between both the Old Testament and the
New Testament. Steinbeck uses biblical symbols from the book Exodus to tell the
story of the Joad family s journey to California. The Dust Bowl, which is the reason
they are leaving Oklahoma, is a representation of the plague. Another symbol used in
this novel is Noah s Ark. This represents the truck they used
Betty Friedan s The Feminist Analysis
In 1963, Betty Friedan, a feminist activist, wrote a book called The Feminine
Mystique, which she criticized the ideal image of a woman s role in society is to
become a mother, wife, and housewife. She said, When she [woman] stopped
conforming to the conventional picture of femininity she finally began to enjoy being
a woman(Friedan 465). Here, Friedan is saying society plays an immense role in
telling how women should behave in accordance with their assigned genderroles and
biological sexes. For instance, women should take up the caregiver role in a family
because they show more feelings and sympathy. Yet, this gender construction impedes
them to form their identities, seek satisfaction and freedom in lives. Once these
gender labels and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to chapter seven of Patricia Mayer Spacks s The Female Imagination: A
Literary and Psychological Investigation of Women s Writing, she claims marriage
leaves no space for women (79). Here, Spacks is suggesting personal space is
essentially significant as personal freedom. Consider if a woman does not feel she
has enough space in a relationship, that means her granted freedom is restricted too
because personal space is created when the other half is willing to give you liberty
to do what you want without questioning. Clearly, Louise is not given that space
and freedom in her marriage. For example, she describes her husband s powerful
will bending hers (Chopin 525). Although Louise does not mention whether her
husband has abused her, the description that she gives about him indicates she lives
a life of imprisonment. In other words, she sees the house she is living as a prison
in which liberty, happiness, and personal space are unreachable. By making this
comparison and providing this source of information about Mr. Mallard, Chopin has
effectively allowed readers to understand Louise s attitudes and opinions toward her
husband. Moreover, she has successfully appealed to the female readers pathos
because they will feel sympathetic and angry toward Louise s situation as Chopin s
choice of using the word bending shows Louise undergoes

Switzerland Is A Federalist State, Where The Power Is
Divided
Switzerland is a federalist state, where the power is divided between the three levels:
the Confederation, the cantons, and the communes. The way Switzerland handles
matters is through the principle of subsidiarity, where a smaller branch of the
government can handle issues and solve them, instead of having the more powerful
branch of government handle those issues. In Switzerland, the people hold the most
power, which allows the people to vote on the country s issues and voice their
opinions to each of the individual parts of the political systems. The confederation,
the highest of the three political systems, handles duties relating to foreign and
security policy, customs and monetary policy, national legislation, and defence. The...

They both have central bank independence. The Swiss National Bank can affect
money supply through open market operations where they auction repo transactions
by volume tender or by variable rate tender. The Swiss National Bank can influence
the money market interest rate in Switzerland by changing the interest rate conditions
and the price formation in Switzerland s money market by making offers in the
electronic market. This can help stabilize money market rates in the short term
(Monetary Policy Instruments).
The Swiss National Bank (SNB) is maintaining its expansionary monetary policy.
Interest on sight deposits at the SNB is to remain at 0.75%. The Swiss National
Bank will remain active in the foreign exchange market as necessary. The SNB s
expansionary monetary policy is aimed at stabilizing price developments and
supporting economic activity. The Swiss franc continues to be significantly
overvalued. The negative interest rate and the SNB s willingness to intervene in the
foreign exchange market are intended to make Swiss franc investments less attractive,
thereby easing pressure on the currency. The negative interest rate is suppose to
induce investors to not buy investments so the Swiss currency stabilizes (Monetary

The Substitution Mechanisms ( Sn1 And Sn2 ) With
Reactions
This paper was written in order to relate nucleophilic substitution mechanisms (SN1
and SN2) with reactions that involved converting alcohol containing compounds to
alkyl halides. This experiment was conducted by combining the initial alcohol with
reagents and heating under reflux when necessary. It was determined that mechanistic
pathways of substitution depend principally on the structure of the initial alcohol; that
is, substrate is considered primary, secondary, or tertiary. Synthesis of 1 (46%) was
achieved through SN2 mechanism from a primary alcohol, while syntheses 2 (97%)
and 3 (98%) were completed by SN1 mechanisms from secondary and tertiary
alcohols as determined by the presence of rearranged products. Many mechanistic
reactions are utilized and are interrelated in order to produce the desired product in an
organic synthesis. These mechanisms may be generally categorized2 into the
following classes: addition, elimination, substitution, and rearrangement. Of these,
substitution reactions are of particular significance in halogenation reactions of
alcohol containing compounds, in which the alcohol functional group is replaced by
a halide ion (i.e. Cl or Br ). Alcohols are the most common precursors to alkyl halides
and signify a very substantial reaction in organic synthesis4. Substitution reactions
can occur via two mechanisms2, namely unimolecular nucleophilic substitution(SN1,
a stepwise process) and bimolecular nucleophilic substitution (SN2, a
The Lady Of Shalott Poem Analysis
These are some of the chosen lines of Alfred Lord Tennyson s from his poetic
work; I will start my claim to peruse my viewpoint by above mention reference
because it is relevant about the subject matter, in addition, these are from the poem
of The Lady of Shalott. Then the second thing is, it s about mythical LANDSCAPE
among Tennyson s finest achievements that symbolize states of human
consciousness; the dreamlike quality of his vision, combined with his ability to see
at close range with preternatural clarity and detail, rendered his dreams more vivid
than our realities. Ultimately it will get me to explore the THEMES of REALITY
and FANTASY from his poetic diction.
First, Tennyson starts out The Lady of Shalott with a quiet description... Show more

The entire poem is constructed in this way, often opting for words languid , driveth
galingale slumberous etc. that, especially when describing sleepy imagery, force the
reader to slow down and contain stresses that give the poem a form of hypnotic
rhythm, relating back to sleep and escapism. In addition to his use of phonetics and
rhythm, Tennyson includes various images that make the sleep state , and therefore
the state the Lotus eaters offer, more appealing. The charmed sunset linger d low ,
like downward smoke and than tir d eyelids upon tir d eyes are all examples that
possess connotations of laziness or sleep, and therefore makes a more attractive
option as opposed to the toil experienced by the rest of the world, enhancing the
desire for escape. as accomplishes this by contrasting the positive aspects of the
world of escapism with reality and its negativities.
In the end, to sum up, from the poem The Lady of Shalott Tennyson focused on
two main subjects the Lady s isolation in the tower as a fantasy and her decision to
participate in the living world as reality. If we search for the theme of Fantasy, it is
everywhere all over the poem as the whole subject matter has come from the
imaginative world of Celtic
Analysis Of A River Runs Through It By Norman Maclean
The natural world has a unique power unequivocal to anything human to make one
deeply contemplative, introspective, and observant of the universe around them.
Norman Maclean testifies to this power in his novella A River Runs Through It.
Through his eulogy to the Blackfoot river Norman Maclean captures the humansoul
and what it means to grow up, his story explaining how a river affects a man. Robert
Redford s movie adaptation, while maintaining the core importance of the Blackfoot
river, focuses on the interpersonal relationships Norman develops throughout his life
and how those affect his character and life choices. A River Runs through it
encapsulates the emotional growth Norman undergoes growing up via his
relationship with the river... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Maclean, the river was always highly personal he even refers to it as my family s
river multiple times demonstrating the profound effect it had on his upbringing. The
deepest familial moments such as Norman offering Paul help, discussing life plans, or
Norman finding common ground with his father, all occur while fishing on the
Blackfoot or in transit to it.
Maclean also uses the rivers changing topography to reveal his emotions once he
returns to Montana from his time at Dartmouth, a much more metropolitan refined
place. He writes, the family river changed find that quote , and appears melancholy,
but later comes to accept that things have changed and time moves forward. Once
again viewing the river as something of personal ownership reveals Norman s own
emotions about himself. He sees that the river and town has grown, with development
along the river altering its serenity but then he begins to accept the change (find
quote) as part of the cycle of growth and acceptance. Because he uses the river to
represent himself, his long thoughts about the industry developing symbolize norman
s internal conflict returning to a very different Missoula than the one he left. The
moment he learns to accept that things change, like the town becoming larger and
more urban, and cannot be the same forever marks the peak of character growth.
Throughout the entire novella, these emotional changes are highlighted through
metaphors involving the river
Diesel vs Gas Essay
Gasoline vs. Diesel
You re in the market for a new truck; you have an idea about what you want but not
quite sure if you want a gasoline or a diesel engine. Well, gas and diesel engines are
very similar yet different in quite a few ways.
At first glance, someone who doesn t know much about either of the two engines
might ask, What s the difference? To the untrained eye they might look exactly alike,
but don t judge the engine by its exterior look.
Gas engines are mainly used by the individual in personal vehicles whereas diesels
are very popular in the commercial and industrial fields. Diesel engines are used by
the navy in their ships and by the army in their tanks and big trucks. Some of the
main reasons for choosing this engine are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The continuing rotation of the crankshaft drives the piston back up, ready for the
next cycle. The piston moves in a reciprocating motion, which is converted into
circular motion of the crankshaft, which ultimately propels the car. Gas engines
usually have about the same about of horsepower as they do torque. The diesel engine
usually has twice as much torque as it does horsepower, thus it is the better hill
climber and load carrier.
As you might have noticed, diesel engines have a harder time starting in cold
weather compared to gas engines due to the fact that gas engines have an electrical
started system. Gas engines rely on fuel, air and spark to ignite whereas diesel
engines rely on heat and compression to initiate spontaneous combustion.
Some of the more obvious differences are the prices for fuel. As of now, March 2011,
the price for diesel is significantly higher than gas. Gas is approaching the range of
$3.40 per gallon to $3.70 per gallon (depending on what part of the country you re
in, it could be higher than that). Diesel, on the other hand, is nearing $4.00 per
gallon and quickly rising. I remember 7 or 8 years ago when diesel was cheaper than
gas, and gas was just above $1.00 per gallon.
Overall, I would say the diesel engine is the better of the two. Of course it all
depends on the usage and perhaps the price of the vehicle but overall the diesel
engine is more rugged and reliable, long lasting, stronger, more efficient and requires
less
Necrotizing Enterocolitis
Prevention of Necrotizing Enterocolitis in Preterm Infants of Very Low Birth Weight
Preterm infants are predisposed to various diseases and instabilities. Necrotizing
Enterocolitis (NEC) is one of the many. NEC is a progressive inflammatory disease,
which leads to tissue damage and ischemia of the GI tract of many preterm infants,
often resulting in death. Continued deaths and complications embrace the need for a
change in practice, to reduce NEC incidence and risk. Various trials have been
conducted, with focus on probiotic supplementation as an intervention in decreasing
the risk of developing NEC in preterm infants. Taking this intervention into
consideration; in infants born preterm, with a very low birth weight (VLBW) (P),

A specific model favorable to this specific proposal of change in practice is the
Model for Evidence Based Practice Change (SITE BOOK). Progressing through the
steps of this model, it will continuously evaluate the proposed change and advance
towards implementation. The first step in this model is to assess the need for
change in practice. Recognizing that there is indeed a practice issue and/or an
opportunity for improvement, creates a focus for changing practice towards
improvement. The EBP team is ought to gather data and confirm an opportunity for
improvement. Progression continues to step two; locating the best evidence. The
EBP team must plan a rigorous search, reviewing clinical practice guidelines,
systematic reviews, and other studies in order to formulate paramount, approved
research (SITE book). Building a strong foundation on research will allow
successful progression through the model and towards implementing a change in
practice. Step three is to critically analyze the evidence. After collecting the best
evidence, it is important for the EBP team to perform a meticulous analysis of the
research found. Synthesizing the evidence for benefits and risks, as well as level of
reasonability, the EBP team must make a judgement whether the evidence holds
enough strength to support the practice change. If the evidence is endorsed, the
process may continue onto step four: designing a practice change. To promote a new
practice, it must first succeed in a pilot run; it must be instigated and evaluated. A
plan for the practice to be carried out must be completed. This may be accomplished
by educational sessions, audit and feedback, or educational materials (SITE). Once a
plan for implementation is conducted, step five may take place: implementing and
evaluating change in practice. The pilot study plan may now be executed into action.
Throughout this process, evaluation of the

Horrific Affect of Pestcides in A Fable for Tomorrow from...
Everyday people all over the world try to improve the qualities of their lives.
Nonetheless, they forget that what they do can have severe harms and damages on
the environment and other organisms. In the excerpt A Fable for Tomorrow from the
book Silent Spring, Rachel Carson describes the disastrous and horrific effects of
pesticides on the environment and animals of the town. In the essay Our Animal
Rites by Anna Quindlen, she shows the inhumanity of animal huntingby human.
Furthermore, she argues how human migration is destroying the natural habitats that
belong to the animals. In the excerpt Reading the River from the autobiographical

This suggests that the roadsides was once beautiful and bloomed with healthy and
lively vegetation; however, they are now destroyed due to the use of pesticides. From
these examples, it can be shown that even though pesticide is beneficial, its deadly
effects outweigh its benefits; in addition, it is a dangerous substances to the
environment, organisms, and even human. Animal hunting is not only inhumane but
can also lead to the extinction of many species. In the essay Our Animal Rites ,
Quindlen asserts that it is pathetic to consider the firepower the hunters use in order
to bring down one fair sized deer (33). In this quote, she explains that the use of
firepower by human to kill innocent animals is unfair and heartrending. Furthermore,
Quindlen describes that even though the bears are killed by the smiling and
triumphant hunters after the three bear days in the autumn, the bears look more
dignified than they do (33). This suggests that hunting animals is not entertaining but
rather unacceptable and disgraceful. Furthermore, many species can become extinct
due to excessive hunting. In an ecology class, I learned that the extinction rate of
species each year is approximately two hundred to two thousand each year. This is an
extremely high and alerting rate since there is only around two million species that
has been scientifically identified on the planet. In these examples, it can be concluded
that the hunting of innocent animals is atrocious and
Persuasive Speech On Organ Donor
Christmas is just around the corner. I m sure growing up there was a toy that you
just had to have. How did you feel having to wait until Christmas morning to see if
you got that toy? You might have felt anxious or hopeful. Well, that is exactly how
the thousands of people who are on the national waiting list for organtransplants feel
every minute of every day. However, instead of waiting for a toy, they are waiting
for something they literally cannot live without. I am a registered donor and know
people who have had organ transplants. There is a continuously increasing need for
organ donors, and it is easy to become an organ donor. Today, I hope to persuade
you all to become registered donors by explaining the need for more donors, what
you can donate, and how you can become a donor.
(First, why should you become a donor?)
There is a huge need for organ donors. The people who need a transplant are put on
a national waiting list that is kept by the United Network for Organ Sharing, also
known as UNOS. According to UNOS, there are around 120,000 people in the
country currently on the waiting list for organ transplant. One person is added to that
waiting list every ten minutes. That means that by the time this class ends, about
seven people will have been added to the list. However, the number of individuals on
the waiting list continues to grow each year, while the number of donors and
transplants grows slowly, as shown in this graph made by the U.S. Department of
Choler Waterborne Diarrheal Disease
Public Health Problem
Cholera is a waterborne diarrheal disease that can be severely detrimental to a person
s health if not treated properly. According to the World Health Organization, cholera
is a bacterial disease that originated in India in the 19th century, with seven
pandemics spreading around the globe and killing millions of people.1 The current
pandemic is still around, and cholera in present times is estimated to affect anywhere
from 1.4 to 4.3 million children and adults every year.1 The disease is especially
rampant during the rainy season, when the climate is wet and the bacteria spread
easily.2 The bacteria strain Vibrio cholerae can culture itself in water, thus
contaminating it and making the water dangerous to anyone who ... Show more

It can be as simple as obtaining the proper tools and medications to treat the portion of
the community that has contracted cholera and making sure that they are cared for in
a clean, hygienic area. Though cholera is indeed a dangerous and potentially deadly
illness, the treatment for it is rather straightforward and basic. Patients that are
affected simply need to replenish the water and nutrients that they lose when they are
going through symptoms of cholera such as diarrhea and dehydration.7 This can be
accomplished through the use of oral rehydration solutions, usually a mixture of salts
and fluids.7 In serious cases where the cholera disease has caused severe dehydration,
patients may need to have their fluids replaced intravenously.1,7 Another relatively
simple option for treatment of cholera is antibiotic therapy involving tetracycline,
which can cause the length of the illness to be reduced and then decrease the need for
oral rehydration therapy.8 Essentially, it all comes down to the government taking
affirmative action to go to the source of the problem and keep it from spreading. In
developed and industrialized countries, cholera is nearly non existent and this is
because there are high standard levels for clean water requirements and overall
sanitation.4 The World Health Organization has implemented a Global Task Force on
Cholera Control through which it attempts to monitor, control, and prevent future
cases of cholera around the world.1 One of the best examples of successful
elimination of cholera is the United States, where the last major outbreak of cholera
occurred in 1911.9 Following the outbreak, the United States government
implemented several public health policies that centered around stricter sanitation
and hygiene practices and advancing water purification techniques in order to
A Land Rembered by Patrick D. Smith Essay
The novel, A Land Remembered, is the epic saga of three generations of MacIveys.
The novel begins with a flash back, from the last generation MacIvey, Sol. Sol was
a real estate tycoon in Miami and the surrounding areas. He has chosen to give up
his life in Miami to live his last hours in the cabin in Punta Rassa , Florida; the cabin
his grandfather had built. Thus, the three generations of MacIveys in Florida ends.
The first generation of MacIveys consisted of the father and husband, Tobias, the
mother and wife, Emma, and their young son, Zech. The family had decided to
escape the pressures of the Civil War in their native Georgia, and move to the scrub
of Northern Florida. The MacIveys experience many troubles and learn many new ...

The MacIveys begin to make drives often where many events take place, such as

wife, and Tawanda, his Indian lover, and the beginning of Tobias citrus empire.
The first generation MacIveys acquire land and prosper but eventually Emma dies,
and Tobias soon follows. The second generation involves Zech, Glenda, and their
son Sol, who concentrate on citrus and acquire valuable land in what is now
Miami and Biscayne Bay. Glenda dies in a freak accident with a cow, and Zech
dies crossing a flooded stream and drowning. Sol leaves Kissimmee to start a
vegetable business in the everglades which prospers. Sol meets Bonnie, but never

she lives with him. Bonnie dies in a hurricane and Sol retires to his mansion on
Biscayne Bay where he lives his years in solitude, until he decides he needs to move
back to the cabin in Punta Rassa.
The character of Tobias, in my opinion, was the most influential character of the
book. His personality was that of a strong willed cracker trying to live and make it in
the uncharted lands of Florida. A particular occurrence of Tobias being strong willed
was a scene where Tobias was driving cows over railroad tracks. A train came and ran
over some of his cows. After a period of exchanging words, Tobias picked up his gun
and blew a huge gash in the boiler of
The Legend Of The Magician
Merlin the Magician in an important fictional character throughout legends and
history. He is known as a powerful sorcerer and a mentor for the future King Arthur.
His magical abilities include shapeshifting, spells, and foresight.
According to legend, Merlin was born during the rule of King Vortigern, a 5th
century warlord, in Carmarthen, Wales. He was given the name Myrddin Emrys, or
Ambrosius, by his mother, the princess of Dyfed, whose father was a sub king (King
s second in command). Merlin isn t just a character from the Arthurian Legends,
Writer Geoffrey of Monmouth is credited with creating Merlin in his 1136 A.D.
work, Historia Regum Britanniae The History of Kings of Britain. While a large
portion of Historia Regum Britanniae is a historical account of former kings of
Britain, Merlin was included as a fictional character (although it is likely that
Geoffrey intended for readers to believe he was a figure extracted from long lost
ancient texts). (Ancient Origins, The legendary Origins of Merlin the Magician) This
places his first appearance in the early 10th century, since then Merlin has been in
several different stories other than the Legend of King Arthur.
Merlin was derived from several different people scattered through history and
legend. These include the Myrddin Wyllt, a madman, Romano, a British war leader,
and trickster Ambrosius Aurelianus, for who Merlin was named. There are three
people who share the exact same story. They were the welsh Myrddin,

others who had shunned him will now look up to him. Walter was raised as free

Hebraic Monarchy In Israel
The year of approximately 1051 B.C. of the United Kingdom Period of Israel was
a significant year in that it was marked by a shift in the Hebrew view of God and
his position over their nation (Hindson and Yates, 2010). For centuries prior to this
date, the Hebrew people not only dwelled under the theocratic institutes of Yahweh,
but for a time, also viewed him as their supreme leader and judge (Johnson, 2012). By
around 1051 B.C., however, the Hebrew mindset had altered, and desiring to imitate
the surrounding nations, the Hebrews demanded that a monarchy be established over
them (Hindson and Yates, 2010). The ultimate result was the founding of the Hebraic
monarchy under the first three kings of Israel: Saul, David, and Solomon. Tragically,

For a brief time, Solomon followed in the footsteps of his father, and exemplified
righteousness, wisdom, and spiritual fervor in every action he undertook. As a result
of his actions, the Lord blessed his endeavors and the kingdom of Israel thrived and
prospered under his jurisdiction. However, Solomon had one great weakness: a
love of women. Due to this obsession with women, Solomon took many wives,
most of whom were pagan and had no love for Yahweh or his statues (Maller,
2011). Sadly, his love for his many pagan wives gradually led Solomon astray,
resulting in his adoption of much of their pagan religious views (1 Kings 11:3 6).
Although he is described as still acknowledging the Lord, his heart was no longer
as devoted to the will of God as it had formerly been, and Jehovah Jireh had become
only one out of the host of other gods to be worshiped (Hindson and Yates, 2010).
The Lord, displeased and grieved by Solomon s infidelity, warned Solomon that as
a result of his ungodliness and unfaithfulness, his kingdom would be torn from his
descendants and given to another. That is, his land would be divided and bestowed
upon another individual not of the house of David and the once united nation of
Israel, would now fall prey to great disunity, incessant war, and bitter rivalries, all as
a result of Solomon s failure to maintain an upright spirit before his God (Maller,

1984 Missing Children
On July 27, 1981 Adam Walsh was in the toy department of Sears playing video
games while his mom shopped in the store. This was quite common in the late
seventies and early eighties when a trusting generation let their kids run wild and
free. On this particular day a monster watched and waited close by for the perfect
opportunity to strike. The opportunity presented itself, a small young boy, all alone.
He snatched him and fled. This is every parent s worst nightmare and a horror story
that griped the nation. In a matter of seconds, a child was gone and would never be
seen alive again.
The frantic search for Adam began when Reve Walsh couldn t find him once she
returned to the toy department. The staff paged him on the loud speakers. A quick...

It is truly amazing to see how something that happened that was so awful that ended

Rap Song Critique
It may seem out of the ordinary for someone like me to relate my entire life to a rap
song, but it has been the case for several years. Specific lyrics ringing through my
head whenever those moments come to me. A motto that spirals into a message of
questioning, and wondering to life and the decisions behind it. A song that makes
me reassure my decisions, marking that this is my one chance and that, I got to
make the most out of it with the risks I take. It s a whimsical sense of wondering in
shallow pools of optimism on the what if s involved. Did I do the right thing? What
if I didn t? It s all apart of the mental checklist that flows like a creek in the forest of
my mind. Overall, my life isn t defined by the shortcuts I take, but instead

and his morals did parallel with that of a progressive) during a stand up bit where
deconstructing racism was the central concept, and albeit May is no scholar by any
extent, his message is clear; the portrayal of the Middle Eastis one sided, that is, an
image created by the West, for the West. This portrayal sees no limit, and as one will
see, goes as far as the American film industry manipulating the youth in movies such
as Aladdin. Aladdin is a cultural production about a young man, Aladdin, who endures
the malicious vizier, Jafar, while attempting to win the heart of Princess Jasmine. In
this work, I will discuss the orientalist portrayal, the source of knowledge, the
effects of American exceptionalism in Aladdin . This will be done by reviewing
the symbols in the film that represent the Middle East. In the film Aladdin, the
portrayal of the Middle East specifically India is that it is a ... far away place ...
where they cut off your ear, if they don t like your face. The producers were
essentially attempting to create the image of a barbaric society that lacked any
good ethics or morals. This orientalist approach by the producers to portray the
Middle East, was on par with an extremely biased news source. For example, other
than cutting off your ear, there is a scene where Jasmine was nearly subject to the
common punishment of hand amputation. If one were to view another movie about
a Disney princess a similar case would be hard to find. Also, in the beginning of the
film, the thief Gazeem, tells Jafar that he had to slit a few throats to get him what he
needed. As if it were normal, Jafar has no response. This scene, along with many
others, is an attempt to convey the barbaric society that the producers want. Now, the
goal of this analysis is not to critique, but it should be
Compare And Contrast Honda Vs Corolla
Comparing and contrasting the 2017 Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Chevy Cruze.
Which car would be better to buy the 2017 Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, or the
Chevy Cruze. In order to figure out which car would be better to buy I m going to
compare the gas mileage, features, fuel tank capacity, sticker price, resale value, and
horsepower. As you can see this is how i m going to figure out which car would be
better to buy.
2017 Honda Civic The 2017 Honda Civic Is a good car because it gets 32 (MPG)
miles per gallon city and 42 (MPG) miles per gallon highway. The Honda Civic has
158 to 306 (HP) horse power. Some the features the Honda Civic has is: Navigation
System, Backup camera, Keyless start, Alarm system, and Bluetooth wireless.
Another reason why it s good to buy is because the resale value is ($13,921 $15,014)
and to sell to a private party is $16,720. The reason why not to buy a 2017 Honda
Civic is because the fuel tank capacity is 12.4 gal. And because the sticker price is
$18,740 .As you can see the 2017 Honda Civic is a good car to buy because of its

Fruitvale Station Essay
Fruitvale Station is a 2013 American drama film written and directed by Ryan
Coogler. It is based on the true story of the events leading up to the death of Oscar
Grant, a young man who was wrongfully shot at the Fruitvale Bay area train station
in Oakland, California. The plot and the writing dramatizes all the things that he
did before he died. It shows that before he was a black male, he was also a human
being. He impacted a lot of peoples lives, and his death would leave a hole in a lot
of peoples hearts. The movie begins with Oscar, and his girlfriend dropping of their
daughter, Tatiana at daycare. Oscar s mom s birthday is that day, and they are going

like that they showed his compassion and love for others. For example, accepting to
pay for his sisters rent, even though he had no job, or staying with the dog until he
died. All that showed how he wasn t just some bum on the street, or somebody who
has no future. He is a father, he pays his rent, he is a son. We know that he doesn t
want to go to prison again, because that would take him away from his daughter and
girlfriend. The cop shot him without a second thought, proving that his life did not

Have you ever wondered why artists make different variants of their fellow designers
work? The incident I will be telling you about is when Pablo Picasso made 58
renditions of Diego VelГЎzquez s painting Las Meninas. This is a very unique piece
of art that has been well known in the art industry for the different variations that
were made of it. In my essay I will be giving a description of the original piece of
art, talking about why he made 58 depictions of LasMeninas and what they consisted
of, as well as comparing and contrasting the authentic paintingto the modified ones.
As we look at the original painting we see several girls huddled around a princess. In
the background we see Diego VelГЎzquez examining the women as he begins to
paint. I believe that VelГЎzquez was trying to illustrate that without the help of
lower class individuals the princess or any person in power couldn t be successful.
One reason I believe this is because SeГ±or VelГЎzquez s title of the painting, The
ladies in waiting. This is the english translation of the Spanish words Las Meninas.
Although the main character seems to be the princess the maids are included in the
title and his picture which to me shows their significance. I think he created this
painting because he wanted to explain something that he felt was important in a
piece of art. I believe this is because of what he centered the piece around. His
painting made clear that he was trying to show the

just by the advertisements, or because a family member was in a militaryor navy

Romeo And Juliet Free Will
Fate has brutal ways of twisting one s destiny and it surely did for both Romeo and
Juliet. William Shakespeare wrote what is now known as the romantic tragedy of
Romeo and Juliet. The play is highly recognized for it s astonishingly composed
writing. Another thing this play provides is the numerous debates that have come up
from this very tragedy. One of the common arguments is between whether this
tragedy was controlled by fate or by free will? For sure we can determine that the
undoing of the two star crossedlovers was in the hands of fate itself this is because
of how critical is was for them to be born into rival families, their meeting was
destined not chosen, and finally how they are always being battered by obstacles
when they try... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the first time they met, they then found out they were meant to be
enemies. Then as the play goes on we see many more examples. The most
prominent one is the events that followed after the Romeo was banished. Juliet is
misunderstood by her father who then thinks the way to cure her tears is to get her
married to Paris. When it comes to bad luck apparently Romeo s banishment isn t
enough cruelty because Juliet is off to be married to Paris. She is to be wed on
Thursday, after panicking Juliet finally receives a clever plan from the Friar but fate
gets in the way. Capulet out of happiness brings the wedding date up one day and
made it wednesday instead. As capulet moves the wedding to Wednesday instead. In
the following quote capulet says: Send for the County. Go tell him of this. I ll have
this knot knit up tomorrow morning. (IV.ii.23 24). This shows that when Juliet
thought she could control her destiny fate puts in it s famous cruel turn. Later as
Romeo doesn t receive the letter including the plan he thinks his love is truly dead.
You can see how fate has got in the way of the letters arrival. In the end, when
Romeo sees dead Juliet he says Thou art not conquered. Beauty s ensign yet is
crimson in thy lips and in thy cheeks, and death s pale flag is not advanced there.
(V.iii.94 96). It is almost as if fate is mocking him senseless on how he could ve
have gotten that he wanted but it just was not destined for either of them. Another
point is when Juliet clearly recognizes that this whole plan is up to fate, Right
before she takes the vile Juliet questions whether things will go as planned which
proves how there is really no free will in her hands. She says How if, when I am laid
into the tomb, I wake before the time that Romeo come to redeem me? There s a
fearful point! (IV.iii.31 33) this shows how Juliet is
Increasing The Minimum Wage
The minimum wage is currently $7.25 per hour and has not increased since 2009.
This is one of the most controversial questions in America today, should the federal
minimum wage be raised, lowered or eliminated? The minimum wage, which covers
90% of American workers, should be raised. Changes to the minimum wagewould
benefit the economy, society and possibly lift Americans out of poverty. Since 1938
the economy has recovered considerably from the Great Depression which began in
1929 and ended in 1939.
The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 set a minimum wage for employees in the
United States. Before this Act was passed there was a high unemployment rate, and
employers could take advantage of desperate workers by paying extremely low
wages and working them a maximum number of hours. The Fair Labor Standards
Act was started in an effort to improve working conditions and raise standards of
living by limiting the number of hours worked and setting a base wage that
employers must pay.
Increasing the minimum wage will progress the economy in many ways such as,
increased buying power, faster rates of job growth, and decreasing the need for
taxpayer funded assistance. When consumers have more on hand cash to spend,
they are able to spend money on retail goods and services. Greater demand and
sales for these businesses is likely to cause the need for more workers over time.
Studies done by Paul Sonn and Yannet Lathrop show that in a majority of instances
an increase in the federal
Cost Accounting Essay
Introduction
Cost accounting is used by most companies whether manufacturing or service to keep
track of their daily activities. It is essential in understanding the costs of running any
enterprise. In other words they aid in determining the costs of inputs and outputs used
in production. It involves analyzing and evaluating different approaches in order to
determine the most suitable method that management can use suitably and one that
can aid in future planning. Cost accounting is therefore an essential tool in decision
making. Decisions made may involve pricing levels, future investment, production
levels and coming up with a good competitive strategy. Different industries use
different cost accounting method depending on the type of services provided or
product manufactured. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another disadvantage of standard costing is that organizations which use it in most
cases usually react to matters instead of finding a proactive approach of mitigating
the errors. Inefficient processes are allowed to run and then cost comparison is done
between actual and normal cost. Management may then try to eliminate the variances.
This method works on the assumption that factors such as technology remain
constant which is not logical especially in this dynamic world where prices of
commodities keep on changing. This leads to organizations revising their standard
costing instead of taking corrective actions.
Standard costing cannot be used in companies that produce heterogeneous products
since it works only where the components and processes are the same and repeat
themselves and this result in production of identical goods and services. This does
not take into account customer preferences since customers need diverse types of
goods. This makes it difficult to be applied in many accounting

Functions of Management 1. Planning When management is reviewed as a process,
planning is the first function performed by a manager. The work of a manager begins
with the setting of objectives of the organization and goals in each area of the
business. This is done through planning. A plan is a predetermined course of action
to accomplish the set objectives. It is today s projection for tomorrow s activity.
Planning includes objectives, strategies, policies, procedures, programs, etc. As it
involves making choices, decision making is the heart of planning. 2. Organizing
Organizing includes putting life into the plan by bringing together personnel, capital,
machinery, materials etc., to execute the plans. While, planning decides what
management wants to do, organizing provides an effective machine for achieving the
plans. 3. Staffing Staffing involves filling the positions needed in the organization
structure by appointing competent and qualified persons for the job. This needs
manpower 4. Directing Direction involves managing managers, managing workers
and the work through the means of motivation, proper leadership, effective
communication as well as co ordination. A manager must develop the

A Helping Hand: Addressing New Implications of the Espionage Act on Freedom
of the Press, by Laura Barandes, details how Section 793 of the Espionage Act
could potentially be used against members of the press. She goes over the
prosecution of two AIPAC employees who were relayed information by a
Pentagon official to make her case that this section could potentially spill over to
members of the press who report on/receive classified information. Also, in her
work, an overview of the jurisprudence related to national security and the

goes over the arguments about why the Espionage Act should be revised. In his

case called, United States v Rosen. This case revolves around two lobbyists, Steven

then goes over the legal arguments employed by the pair in regards to Section 793.

reasoning. The first relates to not letting our decisions determine our emotions,
which people in general are driven by their emotions, whether they appear to be
right or wrong. Second area of focus according to Socrates is that as people we
have to think for ourselves, not according to how others think we should live. And
lastly, as people we shouldn t do things that is viewed as morally wrong, but
understand our behaviors as we believe is wrong or right.
In answering moral questions, do we need factual knowledge?
According to Socrates, as a society we do need factual knowledge to keep order
and balance. By doing so, this allows citizens to have a moral understanding of how
order is to remain intact to prevent chaos. Socrates view moral rules or philosophy as
a valid rule to keep the citizens in order. Socrates moral rule not to escape prison due
to potential harm to society, breaking of a promise/commitment, and disobeying the
leader is a way to prevent an uproar within the prison and other negative effects

The first is descriptive morality, which the goal is to describe the phenomena of
morality that bears ethical questions. Such careers with anthropologists, historians,
psychologists, and sociologists would be a representation of descriptive morality. The
second morality pertains to normative ethics. A person representing this morality
would ask what is good or right, as if debating with oneself/ and or others that results
in a normative judgement (Frankena, 1973). Finally, meta ethics is a morality that is
limited to justification of normative judgement (Frankena, 1973). The goal is not to
answer general questions to determine if it is good or bad, but rather to understand
how a behavior can be
Essay about Dream Analysis
According to Merriam Webster, a dream can be defined as a series of thoughts,
images or emotions occurring during sleep. Form many people, sleep can be a
disturbing time, but for others it can be a peaceful, longing time of the day. For me,
I LOVE my sleep, as well as any dreams that may accompany my slumber.
I would like to think I have a very vivid imagination, based on some of the dreams
that I encounter. I do find that I can remember most of my dreams, at least for a few
hours, however, by the end of the day, I honestly can say that last night s dreamhas
been long since forgotten.

One dream in particular, is an old friend of mine. I dreamt that I was trying to find
her house, and it was in a city and I got lost and couldn t find it. I eventually found
it and it was an old, run down apartment that was in a bad neighborhood. About two
or three years later, I dreamt that I went to visit that same friend, but she had
moved into a large home with red walls and a tall stair case. (Very weird, I know).
Surprisingly, after having a few of these dreams about my friend Cindy, I decided
to look her up on Facebook, and found her. Not only did we get a chance to talk,
but also we met last summer for an afternoon. Since seeing her last summer, I have
only dreamed about her once more. I did confide in her that I had been having
dreams about her and didn t know why. Interesting enough, she had recently moved
into a home that she and her husband had built themselves, after renting an old, run
down house. Based on what I researched about reoccurring dreams, I would have to
say that my reoccurring dreams most likely are due to the loss I feel about people
moving on and me not seeing them again. For the most part, all of my family and
friends live right here in Maryland. There are less than a handful of friends or
family that do not live within driving distance from my residence. Perhaps I am
feeling a loss and concerned over her welfare, since I had not seen her in quite
sometime.
Most of the time, I do not give much thought to my dreams. However, when I have

The Causes And Fall Of The Han And The Roman Empire
Throughout history, there were various empires which developed into great,
powerful forces. These empires expanded their lands to new places but, these
empires ultimately came to an end. Amongst these great empires, were the Han and
the Roman empire. Both were great in power but, due to political, social, and
economic causes, they came to an end. Although they do partake in the equal shares
of corruption and problems with the military, they also had fair shares of
differences, regarding their declines. For example, the Han empire had
decentralization and rebellion while Rome had shifted in interests and developed war
issues. These differences and similarities are bits of history which help to
comprehend why these empires are no longer... Show more content on

But, they were incapable of doing this so, they ended up getting murdered so that the
eunuch power and influence could remain in the empire (Zhi). But, besides
corruption and military issues, there was also the problem of high taxes. In the
Roman empire heavier and heavier taxes were required to support the vast
government bureaucracy and huge military establishment (Ellis and Ester, 151)
while the Han empire was burdened by heavy taxes and crushing debt (Ellis and
Ester, 96). This problem led to the downfall because high taxes increased the chances
of rebellion, which actually occurred in the Han empire. The corruption, military
issues and taxes were both major aspects which contributed to the downfalls of the
empires and they did so, by causing uncertainty in power an unstable support system,
and increasing chances of rebellion.
Besides these similarities, the two empires also had several differences in terms of
what had contributed to their downfalls. For one, the Han Dynasty had
decentralization transpire and a rebellion. The Han Dynasty had decentralization
occur because the power shifted from the central government to warlords which
befell after a reform had taken over the empire. After the reform, governors were
granted executive authority over the province, Therefore, the governors not only had
power over the civil decisions of the province, but they also became the military
leaders (Zhi). The

One common question in literature that always reappears is What is an epic hero?
Or better yet an epic hero in Anglo Saxon culture. I believe there is more to being a
hero than just being strong or intelligent. An epic hero in my eyes is oneself who
comes to portray the beliefs of the society in which the tale/story is depicted. A few
great examples of the Anglo Saxon epic hero are the literary characters in Beowulf,
The Wanderer, and The 13th Warrior. These are all outstanding examples of Anglo
Saxon epic heroes because they all came to show the evident characteristics
bravery, loyalty, friendship. In the Anglo Saxon culture and literature, the meaning
of to be a hero was to be a warrior and or a strong being. A hero also had to possess
the vast characteristics of being strong, intelligent, and courageous. All warriors of
Anglo Saxon culture and literature, had to be willing to face any odds and be
willing to be the underdog that chases success. Also they had to fight to the death
for their glory and accept their each individual fates. The typical Anglo Saxon hero
was always able to be all of these and still be humble and very down to earth. Out of
all literature Beowulf is, arguably, the best example one can use of an Anglo Saxon
hero. But, in The 13th Warrior, Ibn Fadlan (played by Antonio Banderas) similar to
Beowulf, also shows many of the characteristics that come to show the qualities one
needs to possess to become an Anglo Saxon
Intersection Of Leadership Theory
The Intersection of Leadership Theory, Research, and Spiritual Formation
Contemporary thinking offers a variety of obstacles to the success of the Christian
Church. Jesus said that the gates of hell would not prevail against the church (Matt.
16:18), and to date, they have not. However, current ministries face stiff opposition
and the leadership of these ministries needs practical answers in order to move the
gospel forward (McMullin, 2013). Societies around the world continue to grow more
secular, casting the impression that the church is irrelevant (McMullin, 2013). With
this threat, leaders may consider solutions based on contemporary culture, rather than
biblical truth. Resisting this temptation is essential. Christian leaders must insure...

Paul generated this dynamic with those he discipled, chronicling his work with
Timothy in detail. The central question in discipleship, asked by Bonhoeffer, is to
determine what it means to follow Christ (Himes, 2011). This thinking served as a
precursor to the contemporary idea of practical theology, which rests in God s
revelation and seeks to apply it (Himes, 2011). By carefully examining the
relationship between Paul and Timothy, the contemporary Christian leader can
successfully answer the question posed by Bonhoeffer. The Old Testament writers
provided valuable principles for godly living, and precursors for the concept of
New Testament disciple making. Deuteronomy contains the first guidelines,
directing the children of Israel to write God s laws as received from Moses on
their hearts, and allow these Laws to determine their actions (Beagles, 2012). As
God delivered the Law to Moses, He wanted to impress on the children of Israel that
their success in entering the land would rest solely on their obedience to His

similar aspects. Lies and deceit run amok in the play, and conflict is the only

her the lame excuse he had worn out long ago. Over the past year, Aaron had sworn
to her over and over again that it would be the last time she had to get upset. The
last time he went back on his promise. She knew whenever they had gotten together
that he was going to be more than possessive and controlling, however, she had
never anticipated that it would get to be as bad as it had. Honestly, to anyone else,
it probably wouldn t have been as big of a deal as it was to her. The thing was, he
had known. Before they had gotten together that summer, he had known how she
was, who she was. He had told her he could accept that, that it wouldn t be a
problem for their relationship. His actions, though, proved that to be a lie as well.
No matter what she did, how she tried to reason with him that she needed more
than just their relationship in her life, he treated her as if she were a common
tramp; which she definitely was not. She was just sociable. She enjoyed having a

Julius Caesar Personality Traits
In William Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, characters encounter
prophets, omens, and natural phenomena such as a soothsayer s warning, dreams,
and the presence of carrion birds. However, these are disregarded because of the
personality traits of the protagonists. Specifically, Julius Caesar is the strong and
fearless ruler of Rome, and feels compelled to act fearless due to his position;
Marcus Brutus is a widely admired praetor, and is proud of his honorable and noble
reputation; and Gaius Cassius is cautious to challenge Brutus decisions. Despite
numerous warnings and signs, Caesar, Brutus, and Cassius make poor decisions
based on their respective personalities, which ultimately result in their unavoidable
demise.

Because Brutus is such an integral part of the conspiracy, Cassius is careful to
provoke him. As previously mentioned, Cassius warns Brutus, do not consent/That
Antony speak in his funeral:/Know you how much the people may be moved/By
that which he will utter? (3.1.263 266). When Brutus dismisses Cassius point,
Cassius does not strongly oppose Brutus. He simply expresses his disapproval, as
he says I know not what may fall; I like it not. (3.1.275). As a result, Antony turns
the people against the conspirators. Even though Cassius is more insightful, he does
not make an effort to convince Brutus. He would rather give up his beliefs and risk
his life, than endanger the success of the conspirators. Before the war between the
triumvirate and the conspirators, Cassius and Brutus discuss their war strategy.
Cassius suggests that they let the enemy seek them in Sardis, and Brutus suggests
that they go to Philippi. Cassius again gives in to Brutus, merely saying: Then, with
your will, go on;/We ll along ourselves, and meet them at Philippi. (4.3.261 262).
Once again, Cassius submits to Brutus, and consequently, they do exactly what the
triumvirate hoped for by choosing to go to Philippi. During the battle, Cassius
witnesses two mighty eagles replaced by ravens and crows that fly over their heads
(5.1.91 97). Ravens and crows are carrion birds that

The Depth of Diction in Richard Hayden’s Those
Winter Sundays
When reading a poem it is important to understand that the chosen diction possesses
more depth beyond what is literally meant. Information hidden beneath metaphorical
verses serves to not only give insight into the writers thinking process, but also to
communicate with readers. Richard Hayden s, Those Winter Sundays, serves as a
poetic narrative describing the actions taken by a father to ensure his family s well
being. Hayden s modern sonnetgenerates multiple concepts of love, sacrifice and
regret which assist the reader in understanding the limitless capacity of someone s
devotion and the recipients of this affection lack of gratitude. The title of any given
work of literature is always significant to the author s meaning and intent of the
work. Hayden meticulously inserts an emotional symbolism in the title of the poem
which already opens the reader s eyes to the incoming melodramatic nostalgic mood
of the poem. Reading the title as a whole, one will assume that because the words are
in past tenseform, the work will have a reminiscent feel to it. Nevertheless, when the
words are broken down and analyzed individually, more information about its
meaning can be derived. Firstly, the wordthose from the title serves a dual purpose.
On one level, those illustrates distance which will possibly allude to the speakers
distance with his father during childhood. Secondly, being that the word is pluralized,
the use of those in the title also suggests something that is

and immigrants such as the Hmong people moving in. Walt is a veteran of the
Korean war where he won the silver star medal in 1952. The penultimate scene is
the climax of the film where Walt confronts the Hmong gang, this holds a lot of
significance. The gang has been hassling Thao who Walt has taken under his wing.

Walt is a chain smoker which could most likely be the reason he is sick. The
cigarette can be seen as representing a cancer stick. Another symbol in the scene is
when Walt has been shot, he is lying in a crucifix position with a lighter in his
hand. Blood begins to trickle down. The lighter is a war souvenir and represents
his only weapon in the scene. Both of these symbols are used one after the other.
The cigarette is in Walt s hand while he is standing on the lawn while the crucifix
is in the moments after Walt has been shot. The symbols create meaning to Walt
and his background as smoking is the reason he is ill and the crucifix as his wife
was religious yet he was not but wanted to feel free of his sins before passing, the
position also showed sacrifice. The director uses these symbols to show that Walt is
a thoughtful man who considered his options wisely and instead of committing
more sins by fighting back, he went to the house knowing he was going to die but
the Hmong gang would be sent to jail for their crime. It seems that Walt become
more open minded to religion throughout the film and had a better outlook on life
leading up to the sacrifice of his life which leads back to the main theme of
The Era Of Music During Beethoven And Dido And Aeneas
By...
Music is a crucial part of life. Conducting, composing, or listening to music are
things most people do everyday. Music exposes feelings and portrays a part of
history. Listeners enjoy different genres. They may like music of different tempos or
dynamics. Many composers may only focus on one instrument to perfect. Regardless
of taste or need for music, it is all important. Two of the important pieces learned in
the beginning music class are SymphonyNo. 5 in C minor by Beethoven and Dido
and Aeneas by Henry Purcell. A major historical event was well underway when
Beethoven was born. The Age of Enlightenment was upon the world. The peak of
the period was happening right as Beethoven was born. Philosophy, science, and
politics were changed. Many believe this helped the Romantic period also
(Enlightenment). During Beethoven s early life, music was mainly classical.
However, Beethoven was the main ingredient on changing his era of music.
Beethoven studied under Haydn and Mozart, but they were not valuable
relationships to him. Beethoven was mostly known for his great piano work. After
branching out from more than the piano, Beethoven s work took on a more
Romantic feel. He put more emotion and expression in his work than he, or most
artists, did previously. This grasp between stages was very productive for Beethoven;
most of his best work was completed during this time (Brief). Ludwig van Beethoven
was assumed to be born in Bonn, Germany, on December 16, 1770. He died in
The World Is A Beautiful Place Poem Analysis
The world is a beautiful place to live in blissful ignorance. The grassy meadows,
the alluring sunset and the serene waters are a few of many scenery that beguile
human beings into believing that the world is beautiful. Lawrence Ferlinghetti s
life experiences as an orphan and a soldier in World War II had shown him the
flaws of society that has existed in many generations such as hunger, death and
inequality. To raise consciousness of the world, he used his literature to achieve this
goal. In the didactic poem, The World is a Beautiful Place , Lawrence Ferlinghetti
reveals the brutal truth of the world in order to break the narrow minded and
ignorant outlook people have towards the world. Many poetic devices were used to
emphasize the theme of the poem. Repetition and imagery was used to remind the
readers of the underlying bitter tone of the poem while showcasing the different life

There are always two sides of the world that shouldn t be ignored, but instead

The Great Gatsby Essay The American Dream

  • 1. The Great Gatsby Essay The American Dream Crafting an essay on "The Great Gatsby" and its exploration of the American Dream is no simple task. The complexity arises from the multifaceted nature of the novel itself and the intricate layers embedded within the theme of the American Dream. F. Scott Fitzgerald's work delves into the illusionary pursuit of prosperity, love, and happiness in the 1920s, showcasing the hollowness that often accompanies these aspirations. To successfully navigate through this essay, one must have a profound understanding of the characters, plot intricacies, and the historical context. Analyzing the symbolism, motifs, and Fitzgerald's writing style adds an additional layer of complexity. Moreover, one must be able to critically assess the characters' motivations and actions, linking them back to the broader concept of the American Dream. Additionally, the essay should explore the socio-economic backdrop of the Roaring Twenties, understanding how the era's excesses and superficiality contribute to the thematic elements of the novel. The skillful incorporation of relevant quotes and textual evidence is crucial for substantiating arguments and providing a thorough analysis. Despite these challenges, writing an essay on "The Great Gatsby" and the American Dream is also an intellectually stimulating endeavor. It allows the writer to engage with timeless themes that continue to resonate in contemporary society. The opportunity to unravel the intricacies of Fitzgerald's narrative and offer fresh insights makes the task both demanding and rewarding. In conclusion, tackling an essay on "The Great Gatsby" and the American Dream demands a deep understanding of the novel, its characters, and the historical context. It requires the ability to analyze intricate literary devices, articulate complex ideas, and weave a coherent narrative. While challenging, the process offers a unique opportunity to explore the nuances of a classic work of literature and to contribute one's perspectives to the ongoing conversation surrounding the American Dream. • 2. Nt1310 Unit 3 Assignment Of Encryption Techniques 1.Type of operations used for transforming plaintext to cipher text. All encryption algorithms are based on two general principles. Those are substitution, in which each element in the plain text is mapped into another element and transposition in which elements in the plaintext are rearranged. The fundamental requirement is that no information be lost. Most systems referred to as product systems, involved multiple stages of substitution and transposition [2]. 2.The number of keys used: If sender and receiver use the same key, the system is referred to as symmetric, single key or secret key conventional encryption. If the sender and the receiver each uses a different key the system is referred to as asymmetric, two key, or public key encryption
  • 3. Within A Dream Argument Edgar Allen Poe, a poet whose sanity was often debated, wrote the following poem, which questioned the very nature of reality itself: A Dream within a Dream . Each of the two stanzas illustrates a one sided conversation with two subtly differentiated audiences. The first seems to be an argumentative statement of which the speaker is presenting to someone lacking his worldview, who likely regards the speaker as less than sane. Although, despite his assertions, the speaker himself does not seem to comprehend the magnitude of their content until the second stanza, where he is depicted to be symbolically losing his grasp on material reality. Knowing this, A Dream within a Dream can be appreciated as an expression of Poe s philosophical solipsism,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shift, although somewhat prominent in the transition of stanzas, is clearly disclosed with the repetition of the phrase at the end of each. With the simple addition of one word, the nearly identical couplet is transformed from an argumentative statement to an existential question, weighted with solipsistic despair. Although he was previously aware of his own worldview, it was not until he argued for its sake that he realized the emotional magnitude of such philosophy. The second stanza serves as an avenue of self revelation for the speaker, suddenly frantic for material fulfillment in his existence devoid of
  • 4. Parallelism In Grapes Of Wrath Lydia Aremu Kleyn AP Literature/period 6 August 2017 Renewal in The Grapes of Wrath John Steinbeck usually uses California and the Salinas valley as his setting and is usually placed in the 30s when the great depression occurred. The Grapes of Wrath is about a family living in Oklahoma and they are farmers during the period called the dustbowl in which culture was rough because there were droughts and conditions were not suitable for farming. This family, because they are not doing too well, decide to move to California to find jobs and dignity. The author writes about the struggle of a family during and Great Depression and also the struggle of each individual as their lives are being torn apart. He not only shows how they go through these hardships, but also how they will overcome them. In John Steinbeck s novel, The Grapes of Wrath, he argues that all who follow the ways of the Bible will become renewed at the end. He uses religion and parallelism in order to bring to light, the chance of hope that is evident within dire circumstances, and project changes within people during turmoil. The Grapes of Wrath incorporates parallels between both the Old Testament and the New Testament. Steinbeck uses biblical symbols from the book Exodus to tell the story of the Joad family s journey to California. The Dust Bowl, which is the reason they are leaving Oklahoma, is a representation of the plague. Another symbol used in this novel is Noah s Ark. This represents the truck they used
  • 5. Betty Friedan s The Feminist Analysis In 1963, Betty Friedan, a feminist activist, wrote a book called The Feminine Mystique, which she criticized the ideal image of a woman s role in society is to become a mother, wife, and housewife. She said, When she [woman] stopped conforming to the conventional picture of femininity she finally began to enjoy being a woman(Friedan 465). Here, Friedan is saying society plays an immense role in telling how women should behave in accordance with their assigned genderroles and biological sexes. For instance, women should take up the caregiver role in a family because they show more feelings and sympathy. Yet, this gender construction impedes them to form their identities, seek satisfaction and freedom in lives. Once these gender labels and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to chapter seven of Patricia Mayer Spacks s The Female Imagination: A Literary and Psychological Investigation of Women s Writing, she claims marriage leaves no space for women (79). Here, Spacks is suggesting personal space is essentially significant as personal freedom. Consider if a woman does not feel she has enough space in a relationship, that means her granted freedom is restricted too because personal space is created when the other half is willing to give you liberty to do what you want without questioning. Clearly, Louise is not given that space and freedom in her marriage. For example, she describes her husband s powerful will bending hers (Chopin 525). Although Louise does not mention whether her husband has abused her, the description that she gives about him indicates she lives a life of imprisonment. In other words, she sees the house she is living as a prison in which liberty, happiness, and personal space are unreachable. By making this comparison and providing this source of information about Mr. Mallard, Chopin has effectively allowed readers to understand Louise s attitudes and opinions toward her husband. Moreover, she has successfully appealed to the female readers pathos because they will feel sympathetic and angry toward Louise s situation as Chopin s choice of using the word bending shows Louise undergoes

  • 7. Switzerland Is A Federalist State, Where The Power Is Divided Switzerland is a federalist state, where the power is divided between the three levels: the Confederation, the cantons, and the communes. The way Switzerland handles matters is through the principle of subsidiarity, where a smaller branch of the government can handle issues and solve them, instead of having the more powerful branch of government handle those issues. In Switzerland, the people hold the most power, which allows the people to vote on the country s issues and voice their opinions to each of the individual parts of the political systems. The confederation, the highest of the three political systems, handles duties relating to foreign and security policy, customs and monetary policy, national legislation, and defence. The... The Swiss National Bank can influence the money market interest rate in Switzerland by changing the interest rate conditions and the price formation in Switzerland s money market by making offers in the electronic market. This can help stabilize money market rates in the short term (Monetary Policy Instruments). The Swiss National Bank (SNB) is maintaining its expansionary monetary policy. Interest on sight deposits at the SNB is to remain at 0.75%. The Swiss National Bank will remain active in the foreign exchange market as necessary. The SNB s expansionary monetary policy is aimed at stabilizing price developments and supporting economic activity. The Swiss franc continues to be significantly overvalued. The negative interest rate and the SNB s willingness to intervene in the foreign exchange market are intended to make Swiss franc investments less attractive, thereby easing pressure on the currency. The negative interest rate is suppose to induce investors to not buy investments so the Swiss currency stabilizes (Monetary Policy Assessment of 16 March 2017). Depicted on the previous page is the money supply for M1 in Switzerland includes
  • 8. The Substitution Mechanisms ( Sn1 And Sn2 ) With Reactions This paper was written in order to relate nucleophilic substitution mechanisms (SN1 and SN2) with reactions that involved converting alcohol containing compounds to alkyl halides. This experiment was conducted by combining the initial alcohol with reagents and heating under reflux when necessary. It was determined that mechanistic pathways of substitution depend principally on the structure of the initial alcohol; that is, substrate is considered primary, secondary, or tertiary. Synthesis of 1 (46%) was achieved through SN2 mechanism from a primary alcohol, while syntheses 2 (97%) and 3 (98%) were completed by SN1 mechanisms from secondary and tertiary alcohols as determined by the presence of rearranged products. Many mechanistic reactions are utilized and are interrelated in order to produce the desired product in an organic synthesis. These mechanisms may be generally categorized2 into the following classes: addition, elimination, substitution, and rearrangement. Of these, substitution reactions are of particular significance in halogenation reactions of alcohol containing compounds, in which the alcohol functional group is replaced by a halide ion (i.e. Cl or Br ). Alcohols are the most common precursors to alkyl halides and signify a very substantial reaction in organic synthesis4. Substitution reactions can occur via two mechanisms2, namely unimolecular nucleophilic substitution(SN1, a stepwise process) and bimolecular nucleophilic substitution (SN2, a

The Lady Of Shalott Poem Analysis These are some of the chosen lines of Alfred Lord Tennyson s from his poetic work; I will start my claim to peruse my viewpoint by above mention reference because it is relevant about the subject matter, in addition, these are from the poem of The Lady of Shalott. Then the second thing is, it s about mythical LANDSCAPE among Tennyson s finest achievements that symbolize states of human consciousness; the dreamlike quality of his vision, combined with his ability to see at close range with preternatural clarity and detail, rendered his dreams more vivid than our realities. Ultimately it will get me to explore the THEMES of REALITY and FANTASY from his poetic diction. First, Tennyson starts out The Lady of Shalott with a quiet description... In addition to his use of phonetics and rhythm, Tennyson includes various images that make the sleep state , and therefore the state the Lotus eaters offer, more appealing. The charmed sunset linger d low , like downward smoke and than tir d eyelids upon tir d eyes are all examples that possess connotations of laziness or sleep, and therefore makes a more attractive option as opposed to the toil experienced by the rest of the world, enhancing the desire for escape. as accomplishes this by contrasting the positive aspects of the world of escapism with reality and its negativities. In the end, to sum up, from the poem The Lady of Shalott Tennyson focused on two main subjects the Lady s isolation in the tower as a fantasy and her decision to participate in the living world as reality. If we search for the theme of Fantasy, it is everywhere all over the poem as the whole subject matter has come from the imaginative world of Celtic

Well, gas and diesel engines are very similar yet different in quite a few ways. At first glance, someone who doesn t know much about either of the two engines might ask, What s the difference? To the untrained eye they might look exactly alike, but don t judge the engine by its exterior look. Gas engines are mainly used by the individual in personal vehicles whereas diesels are very popular in the commercial and industrial fields. Diesel engines are used by the navy in their ships and by the army in their tanks and big trucks. Some of the main reasons for choosing this engine are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The continuing rotation of the crankshaft drives the piston back up, ready for the next cycle. The piston moves in a reciprocating motion, which is converted into circular motion of the crankshaft, which ultimately propels the car. Gas engines usually have about the same about of horsepower as they do torque. The diesel engine usually has twice as much torque as it does horsepower, thus it is the better hill climber and load carrier. As you might have noticed, diesel engines have a harder time starting in cold weather compared to gas engines due to the fact that gas engines have an electrical started system. Gas engines rely on fuel, air and spark to ignite whereas diesel engines rely on heat and compression to initiate spontaneous combustion. Some of the more obvious differences are the prices for fuel. As of now, March 2011, the price for diesel is significantly higher than gas. Gas is approaching the range of $3.40 per gallon to $3.70 per gallon (depending on what part of the country you re in, it could be higher than that). Diesel, on the other hand, is nearing $4.00 per gallon and quickly rising. I remember 7 or 8 years ago when diesel was cheaper than gas, and gas was just above $1.00 per gallon. Overall, I would say the diesel engine is the better of the two. Of course it all depends on the usage and perhaps the price of the vehicle but overall the diesel engine is more rugged and reliable, long lasting, stronger, more efficient and requires less

Progressing through the steps of this model, it will continuously evaluate the proposed change and advance towards implementation. The first step in this model is to assess the need for change in practice. Recognizing that there is indeed a practice issue and/or an opportunity for improvement, creates a focus for changing practice towards improvement. The EBP team is ought to gather data and confirm an opportunity for improvement. Progression continues to step two; locating the best evidence. The EBP team must plan a rigorous search, reviewing clinical practice guidelines, systematic reviews, and other studies in order to formulate paramount, approved research (SITE book). Building a strong foundation on research will allow successful progression through the model and towards implementing a change in practice. Step three is to critically analyze the evidence. After collecting the best evidence, it is important for the EBP team to perform a meticulous analysis of the research found. Synthesizing the evidence for benefits and risks, as well as level of reasonability, the EBP team must make a judgement whether the evidence holds enough strength to support the practice change. If the evidence is endorsed, the process may continue onto step four: designing a practice change. To promote a new practice, it must first succeed in a pilot run; it must be instigated and evaluated. A plan for the practice to be carried out must be completed. This may be accomplished by educational sessions, audit and feedback, or educational materials (SITE). Once a plan for implementation is conducted, step five may take place: implementing and evaluating change in practice. The pilot study plan may now be executed into action. Animal hunting is not only inhumane but can also lead to the extinction of many species. It can be as simple as obtaining the proper tools and medications to treat the portion of the community that has contracted cholera and making sure that they are cared for in a clean, hygienic area. Though cholera is indeed a dangerous and potentially deadly illness, the treatment for it is rather straightforward and basic. Patients that are affected simply need to replenish the water and nutrients that they lose when they are going through symptoms of cholera such as diarrhea and dehydration.7 This can be accomplished through the use of oral rehydration solutions, usually a mixture of salts and fluids.7 In serious cases where the cholera disease has caused severe dehydration, patients may need to have their fluids replaced intravenously.1,7 Another relatively simple option for treatment of cholera is antibiotic therapy involving tetracycline, which can cause the length of the illness to be reduced and then decrease the need for oral rehydration therapy.8 Essentially, it all comes down to the government taking affirmative action to go to the source of the problem and keep it from spreading. In developed and industrialized countries, cholera is nearly non existent and this is because there are high standard levels for clean water requirements and overall sanitation.4 The World Health Organization has implemented a Global Task Force on Cholera Control through which it attempts to monitor, control, and prevent future cases of cholera around the world.1 One of the best examples of successful elimination of cholera is the United States, where the last major outbreak of cholera occurred in 1911.9 Following the outbreak, the United States government implemented several public health policies that centered around stricter sanitation and hygiene practices and advancing water purification techniques in order to

Due to this obsession with women, Solomon took many wives, most of whom were pagan and had no love for Yahweh or his statues (Maller, 2011). Sadly, his love for his many pagan wives gradually led Solomon astray, resulting in his adoption of much of their pagan religious views (1 Kings 11:3 6). This will be done by reviewing the symbols in the film that represent the Middle East. In the film Aladdin, the portrayal of the Middle East specifically India is that it is a ... far away place ... where they cut off your ear, if they don t like your face. The producers were essentially attempting to create the image of a barbaric society that lacked any good ethics or morals. This orientalist approach by the producers to portray the Middle East, was on par with an extremely biased news source. For example, other than cutting off your ear, there is a scene where Jasmine was nearly subject to the common punishment of hand amputation. Also, in the beginning of the film, the thief Gazeem, tells Jafar that he had to slit a few throats to get him what he needed. As if it were normal, Jafar has no response. • 28. Fruitvale Station Essay Fruitvale Station is a 2013 American drama film written and directed by Ryan Coogler. It is based on the true story of the events leading up to the death of Oscar Grant, a young man who was wrongfully shot at the Fruitvale Bay area train station in Oakland, California. The plot and the writing dramatizes all the things that he did before he died. It shows that before he was a black male, he was also a human being. He impacted a lot of peoples lives, and his death would leave a hole in a lot of peoples hearts. The movie begins with Oscar, and his girlfriend dropping of their daughter, Tatiana at daycare. All that showed how he wasn t just some bum on the street, or somebody who has no future. He is a father, he pays his rent, he is a son. The incident I will be telling you about is when Pablo Picasso made 58 renditions of Diego VelГЎzquez s painting Las Meninas. This is a very unique piece of art that has been well known in the art industry for the different variations that were made of it. In my essay I will be giving a description of the original piece of art, talking about why he made 58 depictions of LasMeninas and what they consisted of, as well as comparing and contrasting the authentic paintingto the modified ones. As we look at the original painting we see several girls huddled around a princess. In the background we see Diego VelГЎzquez examining the women as he begins to paint. I believe that VelГЎzquez was trying to illustrate that without the help of lower class individuals the princess or any person in power couldn t be successful. One reason I believe this is because SeГ±or VelГЎzquez s title of the painting, The ladies in waiting. This is the english translation of the Spanish words Las Meninas. Although the main character seems to be the princess the maids are included in the title and his picture which to me shows their significance. His painting made clear that he was trying to show the

  • 32. Romeo And Juliet Free Will Fate has brutal ways of twisting one s destiny and it surely did for both Romeo and Juliet. William Shakespeare wrote what is now known as the romantic tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. The play is highly recognized for it s astonishingly composed writing. Another thing this play provides is the numerous debates that have come up from this very tragedy. One of the common arguments is between whether this tragedy was controlled by fate or by free will? For sure we can determine that the undoing of the two star crossedlovers was in the hands of fate itself this is because of how critical is was for them to be born into rival families, their meeting was destined not chosen, and finally how they are always being battered by obstacles when they try... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the first time they met, they then found out they were meant to be enemies. Then as the play goes on we see many more examples. The most prominent one is the events that followed after the Romeo was banished. Juliet is misunderstood by her father who then thinks the way to cure her tears is to get her married to Paris. When it comes to bad luck apparently Romeo s banishment isn t enough cruelty because Juliet is off to be married to Paris. She is to be wed on Thursday, after panicking Juliet finally receives a clever plan from the Friar but fate gets in the way. Capulet out of happiness brings the wedding date up one day and made it wednesday instead. As capulet moves the wedding to Wednesday instead. In the following quote capulet says: Send for the County. Go tell him of this. I ll have this knot knit up tomorrow morning. (IV.ii.23 24). This shows that when Juliet thought she could control her destiny fate puts in it s famous cruel turn. Later as Romeo doesn t receive the letter including the plan he thinks his love is truly dead. You can see how fate has got in the way of the letters arrival. In the end, when Romeo sees dead Juliet he says Thou art not conquered. Beauty s ensign yet is crimson in thy lips and in thy cheeks, and death s pale flag is not advanced there. (V.iii.94 96). It is almost as if fate is mocking him senseless on how he could ve have gotten that he wanted but it just was not destined for either of them. Another point is when Juliet clearly recognizes that this whole plan is up to fate, Right before she takes the vile Juliet questions whether things will go as planned which proves how there is really no free will in her hands. She says How if, when I am laid into the tomb, I wake before the time that Romeo come to redeem me? There s a fearful point! (IV.iii.31 33) this shows how Juliet is

This is one of the most controversial questions in America today, should the federal minimum wage be raised, lowered or eliminated? The minimum wage, which covers 90% of American workers, should be raised. Changes to the minimum wagewould benefit the economy, society and possibly lift Americans out of poverty. Since 1938 the economy has recovered considerably from the Great Depression which began in 1929 and ended in 1939. The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 set a minimum wage for employees in the United States. Before this Act was passed there was a high unemployment rate, and employers could take advantage of desperate workers by paying extremely low wages and working them a maximum number of hours. The Fair Labor Standards Act was started in an effort to improve working conditions and raise standards of living by limiting the number of hours worked and setting a base wage that employers must pay. Increasing the minimum wage will progress the economy in many ways such as, increased buying power, faster rates of job growth, and decreasing the need for taxpayer funded assistance. When consumers have more on hand cash to spend, they are able to spend money on retail goods and services. Greater demand and sales for these businesses is likely to cause the need for more workers over time. Studies done by Paul Sonn and Yannet Lathrop show that in a majority of instances an increase in the federal

It involves analyzing and evaluating different approaches in order to determine the most suitable method that management can use suitably and one that can aid in future planning. Another disadvantage of standard costing is that organizations which use it in most cases usually react to matters instead of finding a proactive approach of mitigating the errors. Inefficient processes are allowed to run and then cost comparison is done between actual and normal cost. Management may then try to eliminate the variances. This method works on the assumption that factors such as technology remain constant which is not logical especially in this dynamic world where prices of commodities keep on changing. This leads to organizations revising their standard costing instead of taking corrective actions. Standard costing cannot be used in companies that produce heterogeneous products since it works only where the components and processes are the same and repeat themselves and this result in production of identical goods and services. This does not take into account customer preferences since customers need diverse types of goods. This makes it difficult to be applied in many accounting

About two or three years later, I dreamt that I went to visit that same friend, but she had moved into a large home with red walls and a tall stair case. (Very weird, I know). Or better yet an epic hero in Anglo Saxon culture. I believe there is more to being a hero than just being strong or intelligent. An epic hero in my eyes is oneself who comes to portray the beliefs of the society in which the tale/story is depicted. A few great examples of the Anglo Saxon epic hero are the literary characters in Beowulf, The Wanderer, and The 13th Warrior. These are all outstanding examples of Anglo Saxon epic heroes because they all came to show the evident characteristics bravery, loyalty, friendship. In the Anglo Saxon culture and literature, the meaning of to be a hero was to be a warrior and or a strong being. A hero also had to possess the vast characteristics of being strong, intelligent, and courageous. All warriors of Anglo Saxon culture and literature, had to be willing to face any odds and be willing to be the underdog that chases success. Also they had to fight to the death for their glory and accept their each individual fates. The typical Anglo Saxon hero was always able to be all of these and still be humble and very down to earth. Out of all literature Beowulf is, arguably, the best example one can use of an Anglo Saxon hero. But, in The 13th Warrior, Ibn Fadlan (played by Antonio Banderas) similar to Beowulf, also shows many of the characteristics that come to show the qualities one needs to possess to become an Anglo Saxon
