Race And Racism In The Colorblind Society
Final Paper Color blindness is the notion that individuals live in society disregarding racial
characteristics. In the functioning of color blindness, people are treated equally in regards to skin
color, there are no distinctions, profiling, or categorization based on race. It is the belief that we
now live in a colorblind society where raceprivilege no longer exercises or shapes the power it once
did. Realistically, we live in a society that defines race and is defined by race, in turn makes the
ideology of color blindness inaccurate. People who are color blind cannot change or fix the system
because color blindness ignores the racismthat deals with social structures. These individuals can
only perpetuate racism, as it already exists. The perspective of the color blind defines racism as
a problem of individual race relation and assumes individuals can erase racism by learning about
races other than their own. It does not however, address instructional racism. After interviewing
three successful African Americans, we learn how their personal experiences with racism varied
throughout their lives and how being successful and Black has had no bearing on them being
affected by racism. Most importantly, we are able to interpret their perspectives about why the
color blind ideology is not credible. If we consider the American media, we examine the way in
which they play on the genuine representations of race and promote the idea that we are a
progressive society and are

History of African Americans and Higher Education Essay...
For blacks, the history of higher education typically points to segregated education. Before the Civil
War, the social system promoted the belief that blacks wouldn t get return on their time spent in
higher education. Brown and Ricard (2007) noted that most North institutions were reluctant to
allow black enrollment in colleges and universities, and in the South, where slaveholder s were still
powerhouse businessmen, slaves would never be allowed to become more educated than their
owners. The reluctance of the White leaders to allow blacks to formally be accepted into higher
educationprograms held blacks back from achieving what many aspired to, and were fully capable
of, experience.

When ex slaves demanded a formal public schooling, they were really asking the South to develop
and embrace a relatively new philosophy of education. Effectively, they were having white
southerners pay for the education of people they once owned as property, and had the right to
receive what most whites in the region hadn t had available previously. According to Anderson
(n.d.), the Reconstruction Era (1877) presented a unique problem for black professionals. Although
more blacks were becoming qualified for educational and employment opportunities, the job
demand shifted to industrial needs. For black leaders, having to get industrial training instead of a
broader, more useful education was a beneficial short term answer for employment. The primary
advocate for industrial training was Booker T. Washington. Washington, educated at the Tuskegee
Institute located in Alabama, expressed publicly that manual labor will be more beneficial to
individuals because that was the type of work available (Anderson, n.d.). On the opposite side of
Washington s argument for occupational training was W. E. B. Du Bois. Du Bois, who came from
Harvard, had higher aspirations than occupational education, with a conviction that Black life and
culture should be a primary topic of Black thought and investigation (Anderson, n.d. p.1).

Disadvantages Of Enlightened Despotism
Some of the traits most associated with enlightened despotism include many types of reforms
inspired by the Enlightenment made by absolute monarchs, these reforms were of social,
economic, legal, and educational, and religious tolerance. These reforms did not allow for the
question of their central power, or of the accepted social class order. I believe this form of
government to an extent could work with today s political climate, as it has been going. Although,
rule, entirely of the monarch, would eventually fall, and absolute power would bring mostly
disadvantages. Religious toleration is something that is needed within all societies, as it should be
a promise never to change, because without toleration of religion, any type of war is able... Show

The impact that Frederick II s reign had on the geo political organization of Western and Eastern
Europe was his foreign policy. This is where Prussia gained this province of the West, where the
isolation of East Prussia happened by linking with monarchical states. This had made the
kingdom more capable of defense and within its territory, Prussia was more predominantly to the
East, and had also made the dividing social and political differences sharpen with that of the
other states of Western Europe.Russia s czarist government in one way, helped protect the rights
of nobles and peasants in the Table of Ranks. This table let all men have the ability to serve the
state, and had to longer allow Russia s military to rely on heredity positions. This gave larger
privileges to those who placed higher in the ranks, which can be compared with England s
parliamentary democracy of the protection of their rights, though in order of their services they had

The Hysteria of Japanese Descent
The Korematsu Vs. U.S. Court case was held and decided during World War 2 between the time
after the attack on pearl harbor, the decision that take place at that time were exaggerated and
wrong during this time the american people were lead to believe that people of japanese
ancestry were a threat to the security of the west coast do to wartime hysteria and false
accusations of Espionage. When WW2 begin there was a massive fear of an invasion of the
west coast do to the fact that many civilians and aliens were of Japanese descent. These residents
were either second or third generations who has almost lost all ties to their Japanese ancestry.
The mass speculations were gathered from evidence of espionage however the FBI and other
agency jumped to conclusions with this evidence. From Information Bulletin Number 6 there
was evidence of a small network of spies located in the west coast all of whom were of japanese
descent. Their assumption that there was a mass underground network of japanese spies that were
fully cable of causing sabotages that would disable the west coast defense and leave the whole
west coast vulnerable to a japanese invasion were all assumptions from wartime hysteria and a lack
of evidence to backup their findings.

Music Concert Review Sample
Concert ReviewThe music concert this review covers is the Plano Symphony s rendition of the
Beethoven s Choral Fantasy in C minor and Symphony No. 9, The Choral, in D minor. The
concert was held at a church in April 16, 2016, and it was a sold out performance. Since it was a
night simply dedicated to Ludwig van Beethoven, the symphonytitled the concert as Best of

The first part of the concert played Beethoven s Choral Fantasy, also known as Fantasia, and it
lasted less than 30 minutes. It opened with a lady named Anastasia Markina, and she introduced the
piece with a slow virtuoso playing of the piano, to which later on the strings, cellos and basses,

Though my ears are not exceptionally honed nor trained to point out musical mistakes, I would like
to add that mistakes, if any, were not thoroughly noticeable. The musicians blended well and
produced the right effect based on the musical context. However, when the vocal soloists sang in
the final movement of the Ninth Symphony, their voices were drowned out by the loudness of the
orchestra and large chorus. It did not help that the soloists were located lower than chorus, which
made the perception of hearing the soloists more difficult. The conductor, Hector Guzman, was
effective in leading the music in that whenever the piece called for dynamics, his movements told
the musicians how much more or less it was needed. And also, Mr. Guzman did not just interact
with the orchestra, but the chorus and vocal soloists as well. He seemed to be respected by his
fellow musicians and gave the proper recognition to the soloists of the

Creationism In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Or The Modern...
Contrary to popular belief the name Frankenstein is not that of the monster, but of his creator
Victor, and follows the atrocities of this young man s harrowing existence. Written by Mary Shelley,
Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus follows the life of Victor Frankenstein and his horrendous
creation in a blend of mystery, science fiction, and romanticism. he novel opens not with that of
Victor Frankenstein, but with a series of letters from an arctic explorer by the name of Robert
Walton. These aforementioned letters establish Walton s desiree s to find new passage routes, and
instead discovers a very ill and frostbitten Victor Frankenstein on the edges of the North Pole.
Frankenstein weaves the story of his life to that of his savior from his content childhood with his
two younger brothers, cousin, father and mother; to the tragedy of his teenage years, his obsessive
college experience, and finally the horror of his life then on. The novel is told in an odd manner,
switching from the perspective of Frankenstein, to that of the monster, then returning to the sea
captain Walton. Frankenstein s life morphs into a web that only catches terribleness because his
inability to be content with the life that he was given. The story of Shelley s Frankenstein is at the
core, one of creationism and the terrible results of animating life, through her characters,
demonstrates how any creation outside of God s hands is something that is unearthly and wrong.

Communism
Throughout history, countries have developed economic systems according to their political
ideology. The nation s ideology directly influences and becomes entrenched in economic decisions
of the state. Whether a country develops a free market, a mixed, or a command economy, the
foundation of the system lies in how to people choose to use and distribute resources. Free market
and capitalist ideals emerged in reaction to the mercantilist policies of the Colonial era (1700s). The
Colonial era, a period (dominated by government regulation and control over imports) where
European powers set out to extend their influence in the New World (with the intent to extract
riches), was the epicenter for capitalism. These European powers sought out colonies... Show more

As Europe industrialized, revolutionizing the way of life in many countries like UK, there were
adverse consequences. Though the manufacturing and availability of jobs increased prosperity and
lifted spirits, living conditions were abhorrent and inequality (of wealth) was rampant As free
market capitalism began to show its flaws, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels wrote their communist
manifesto in response to the living and working conditions of the working class in England.
Communism calls for the government to make economic decisions and direct production (through
quotas and plans), no individual ownership (all state owned), total equality, and for the working
class, the Proletariat, to unite against the Bourgeoisie (upper class). In a command economy, there
are two main sectors in the class system: the Bourgeoisie, the wealthy, and the Proletariat, the
working class, who have a hostile and antagonistic relationship. In contrast to Smith s free market
ideology, Marx is anti class, believes in government control of the economy, that the division of
labor is degrading and dehumanizing (one loses individuality), and that competition must be
abolished. This complete reversal in economic ideology, towards the opposite spectrum eventually
failed in most communist regimes like the Soviet Union. Only one nation continues to exist as a
communist state, which is North Korea. Thus, countries with command economies suffer in the
global market, incapable of innovating or incentivizing their people to

Douglas Jardine As A Villain In Cricket
Cricket is a game that creates spell of magic and enchantment in five day cricket or glitz
produced by T20 league. The game has seen astounding players who set the stage alight through
terrific performances. The one aspect of the game which has been quite forgotten at times when
that quality and level of play is raised when two opposition teams collide in form of players with
contrasting style and temperament. The role of antagonist is seldom neglected as such
characters that left an indelible mark on the field.Altough various words such as villain or the
bad guy like terms are used but I think the term, heel as coined in world wrestling federation
seemed to the most befitting word to some of these players that have gone down in the history
books due to infamous events and scenes. The earliest character in cricket as a heel was
Douglas Jardine who led an England to gain the urn and had hatched a devious plan to unsettle
great Don Bradman. The series provided quite furor as Jardine instigated fast bowler Harold
Larwood who managed to unsettle the great batsmen and created a tense atmosphere. Douglas
Jardine provided the display of a villain who was seeking to win at all costs. The famous heel in
1970s were Ian Botham. The burly all rounder who gained immense success and prominence after

Kathleen Blanco Speech Analysis
To keep things simple, people simply want to be heard, and they will do anything in order for their
audience to listen. There are various ways in which the speaker would gain the right to be heard.
Former Governor of Louisiana, Kathleen Blanco, uses various forms to obtain attention from her
audience as she addresses the LouisianaLegislator on Hurricane Katrinawhere she not only
discusses the effects of the hurricane but also acknowledges the people who have helped out so
far. Blanco does an exceptional job gaining attention through her audience through pathos, or
emotions. She gets to people s emotion side by expressing heartbreak, loss, devastation, and
above all; hope. Many people, if not all, have experienced at least one of these emotions at some
point in there lives, which helps them relate to Blanco s speech. Blanco introduces the subject of
loss, devastation and heartbreak by stating ...our thoughts are the families who were literally
ripped apart by the storm.... I have met brothers separated from sisters, mothers and fathers
searching for children, and children who have seen things no child should have to witness... my
heart goes out to every family (Blanco ..). Nobody should have to go through that in their lives,
no matter your age or gender. Too many people have experienced some form of loss, devastation
or heartbreak that has changed them. Above all, she introduces what all people want to hear;
hope, by stating ...we will transform despair into hope and show the world the true meaning of
determination (Blanco ..). After the massive devastation that happened to their town, hope is all
people are thinking about; they want to forget all the negative events and make sure everything
goes back to normal. All things aside, the people of Louisiana want to show the world that they
can come back after such a horrible disaster, and their Governor is all on board in helping
support that cause. In conclusion, Blanco is able to connect with her audience through people s
emotions and by being a part of the people of Louisiana s side; she is willing to stand with them
and help by doing as much as she can. Another way Blanco gets ahold of her audience s attention is
through ethos, or credibility. She

Software Development And Its Development
As we saw throughout the last forty or so years is that computer systems frequently evolve and that
developmental change is inevitable and software development is no stranger to this, which is where
agile development or the term that some use agile software development comes into play. This is a
concept that searches for alternatives to the traditional way of managing a project and based on the
foundation that change is essential to software development. Throughout this paper, we will look at
the reasons that brought about the change in thinking with regard to software development, discuss
some of the key principles of agile development, methods under agile development and the benefits
of the use of agile development. Let s begin this document with a discussion into what brought
about the change in thinking.
The biggest reason for the change in methodology in software development is due to the failures
realized through the use of traditional sequential development. With these failures an assembly of
individuals developed a declaration of policy that included the following ideologies: Individuals and
interactions over processes and tools, working software over comprehensive documentation,
customer collaboration over contract negotiation and finally responding to change. ( Manifesto for
agile software development, n.d.). Let s continue on with this document and examine at some of the
principles with regard to the concept of agile development.

As technology of the past gives way to the technology of the future, the world is becoming a
smaller and smaller place. In economic terms, Global Interdependence is increasing as time goes
on. In other words, we as the United States, as well as other countries, rely on each other for the
three factors of production, Land, Labor and Capital. As noted in Thomas L. Freidman s book, The
World is Flat, there are several instances in which the Global Interdependence started. For example,
the introduction of the Internet created a common forum in which people could connect to each

This is described as the Most Favored Nation rule, or MFN for short. They cannot set a certain
tariff on one good from a nation then set a higher one on a different nation. This promotes non
discrimination between countries. In addition to MFN, the WTO also provides National Treatment.
This asks countries to give the same benefits that it would give to its domestic products, to foreign
products. National Treatment and MFN are simply put, cornerstones of all international trade. The
World Trade Organizationis an integral part of Globalization due to its policies of fair and balanced
trade between countries of greater affluence and countries of less prosperity.

The Jealous Husband And His Reincarnation
Stephen Eason
ENG 1500
Dr. Ware
12 September 2016
The jealous Husband and his reincarnation. In Jealous husband Returns in form of Parrot Robert
Olen Butlers main character is a parrot whose character traits consist of jealousy, insecurity, and
lack of confrontment. The Author creates a story that is told from a perspective that is informative
but also vivid. The development of the story allows the reader to visually analyze a picture as the
story is being told. The overall theme of the story is that relationships are tough when they consist
of certain traits. This is shown through the story s character, tone and symbolism. Within the text
there is a character referred to as The guy from shipping who the main character is jealous of. His
ex wife mentions this character three times throughout the story which cause him to become
enraged and foolish. For example, Hey, I m not stupid. She said one thing about him and then
another and right after the third one I locked myself in the bathroom because I couldn t rage about
this anymore (Butler 2). When his wife begins to mention other males who lived better lives than
that such of his, it caused him to become very jealous. Even though his jealous causes him to
become enraged, he doesn t say anything because he feels that it is better to remain silent.
The parrot realized that when he was a human he was jealous of the relationship that he and his
wife had versus the one she had with other men. For example, and I quote

Systems Analysis And Design Of Iain s Co
Systems Analysis and Design
Help sheet:
Introduction:
For this unit I have been asked to produce a database for Iain s Co who are a large building
service company, but before that I have to plan everything out by analysing and designing the
database for the company s newly taken over smaller company.
Scenario:
Iain s Co are a large building company who at present have employed IT technicians in order for
their technical aspects to be managed and to also support the IT users in the company. In recent
time Iain s Co s have taken over a smaller company who require some help with their database as
they want to include some new features that can improve and link both company data s together in
order to manage the two sites on one database.
Outline principles of systems analysis:
What is a system analysis?
A system analysis is a data processing method that is widely used in the business department for
breaking down a problem into different parts to reduce the difficulty of the problem and identifying
the needs to solve the problem more easily and more efficiently.
This will be helping Iain s Co greatly because they need a system that can break down problems so
that it reduces the difficulty of the problem.
What is an SSADM?
Structured Systems Analysis and Design Method is also more commonly known as SSADM,
which is an amalgamation of text and diagrams through the entire life cycle of a system design,

Analysis Of Miss Julie By Stanislavski
Constantin Stanislavski (1863 1938) is considered as the father of realism. His system of acting
uses a balance between an actor s personal experience and an attempt to imagine being in their
character s situation. Stanislavski believed by preparing correctly with characterization, you can
harness your subconscious and create a truthful performance, Because the very best that can happen
is to have the actor completely carried away by the play. Then regardless of his own will, he lives
the part, not noticing how he feels, not thinking about what he does, and it all moves of its own
accord, subconsciously and intuitively. However, one cannot create subconsciously without
inspiration, and inspiration cannot be forced, so Stanislavski... Show more content on

Those feelings, drawn from our actual experience, and transferred to our part, are what give life
to the play . Also, by using emotional memory for the characterization, the actor will be able to
understand what Miss Julie is going through and the emotions she is required to display.
However, Emotional memory recall proved to be too exhausting for actors and produced
negative results like tension and hysteria. Stanislavski also realized that unconscious feelings
needed to be coaxed, lured and enticed gently, rather than forced out. In ordinary life, truth is
what really exists, what a person really knows. Whereas on the stage it consists of something that
is not actually in existence but which could happen . This line is especially important in realism,
where the aim of the actor is to create the appearance of reality or truth on stage. An actor does
not actually believe in the truth of the events on stage, only in the imaginative creation of them ,
this then posed the question of creating the appearance of reality for the spectator. Stanislavski
answered this question by creating the magic if , and thus, the character s objectives drove the
actor s physical action choices. The actor had to answer the question, if I were in Miss Julie s
position, what would I do? and this was a question that should be constantly asked during rehearsal
processes for characterization. By doing

Jean Piaget
Jean Piaget created a framework of cognitive development in a series of four stages: sensorimotor,
preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational. According to Piaget, the outcome of
learning depends on what cognitive developmental stage the learner is in. For example, you would
not give a calculus problem to a two to seven year old child because they have not yet entered the
stage of formal operation, or abstract, logical thinking. A child must be presented with an
environment that suits their thought. Piaget s first stage, sensorimotor, is from birth to the age of
two. In this stage, the child comprehends the world by coordinating sensory experiences with
physical movements. The focus is put on reflexes instead of cognition due to the fact that in this
stage children have not yet began to enter symbolic thought. This is a stage of experimentation and
exploration. The parents should allow their child to play with toys that make sounds in order to get
them to understand cause and effect relationships. One example is playing Peek a Boo,... Show

The child begins to represent the world with words and images, this reflects an increase in
symbolic thinking. There are two reasonings in this stage: syncretic and intuitive. The former
being a break in logic and the latter being guessing. This stage is characterized with increased
creativity and role play. Parents should encourage playing make believe characters to express
symbolic cognition. Additionally, the child is egocentric in their world view. To discourage this,
the parent should get the child to mentally place themselves in someone else s position. Children
in this stage also have a lack of knowledge in conservation. They think that if you pour the same
amount of liquid from a small cup to a big cup, the big cup has more. In order to help with this the
parent should introduce objects that change shape such as playdoh and

Cell Phones And Its Effect On Children Essay
Teenagers are constantly on their cell phone, which leads to extreme overuse of it. In an
acknowledgeable book, Ling (2004) described how teenagers use cell phones and the direct
effects of having one. Adolescence is a period in someone s life in which they develop their own
identity and self esteem. So, teenagers are at a very influential time in their life and cell phones
take advantage of that. When a teen decides to use a cell phone, they are not acting with their
own ideas, but rather the culture of their peers. Mobile phones play a role in the teen s peer
group. Since a teen is still developing their own identity and sense of self esteem, they fall into
the vicious cycle of only doing what other teens are. Like a lot of technology, cell phones have
not been around that long. So, no generation of teenagers have really been able to access this
kind of technology before. Since it is a newer technology, teens and parents are still making up
the rules as they go. As a result, teenagers easily over use their cell phone without even realizing
it. When no clear boundaries are set, teenagers take advantage of that, and use the device as much
as possible. Some teenagers objectify the cell phone and incorporate it into their daily lives, but
their parents are still way back in the adoption process. Mobile phones are the way that teens inside
a peer group communicate now, using it as a main form of communication makes it easier to
overuse the cell phone. In a well conducted

Taking a Look at Marfan Syndrome
Marfan Syndrome, which is named after Antoine Marfan who first described the disorder in 1896,
is a genetic disorder that affects the connective tissues found throughout the body. This syndrome
can affect many different parts of the body, but the most commonly affected are the heart, blood
vessels, bones, joints, respiratory system, nervous system, and eyes. Thankfully, a person s
intelligence is never affected. Marfan syndromeaffects people from all races and ethnic
backgrounds, and this often makes it hard to detect. It is a pretty rare genetic disorder affecting
only about 1 in every 5,000 people.
This syndrome is from a mutation of a gene on chromosome 15 and this causes problems in the
production of fibrillin 1 which is a protein that is an important part of connective tissue. The name
for the gene is FBN1. Basically, it is the glue that helps to support the tissues in the human body. A
child born to a parent with this syndrome has a 50% of having it. However, in the remaining 25%,
neither parent has the disease which gives them a 1 in 10,000 chance of having a child with this
disorder. When a child of two unaffected parents is born with it then the genetic mutation occurs in
either the egg or sperm cell at the time of conception.
The defect of this glue leads to phenotypes such as a thin, lanky build, flexible joints, sunken eyes,
a chest that is sunken in or bulges out, curvature of the spine to one side (scoliosis), and flat feet.

Identity And Identity In The Whore s Child By Richard Russo
The Whore s Child is a famous short story by Richard Russo. The story follows the life of a nun,
Sister Ursula, as she joins a college fiction writing course and begins writing her life story. As she
writes, with the help of her professor and the feedback from her class, she discovers more about
herself and the truth about her life. A key element of this story is the depth to which the characters
are explored, given the limited amount of time for characterization. A primary way to explore this
characterization is through the works of prominent identity theorists one of which being Canary et
al. This theory talks about some of the ways that identity is developed, through concepts such as
social cognition, schema, and the four cognitive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another key aspect of Canary s theory is that of the four cognitive processes stereotypes,
attributions, person perception, and interpersonal goals. According to Canary, stereotypes are
when categories are about people and are based on their group membership (Canary 114). In
Russo s story, Sister Ursula writes about how, as a child, she understood that her mother s being
a prostitute made her the whore s child, that her mother s wickedness diminished her father s
value (8). This excerpt from Sister Ursula s story establishes how the negative stereotypes around
her mother s lifestyle impacted her childhood. Even today, prostitution is considered dishonorable
in society, especially within religious circles, and thus, Sister Ursula s mother s stigma was
attached to her as a child, which caused her to be inherently disliked in the nun community. Again,
this could be a contributing factor to Sister Ursula s cold and steadfast demeanor, as she had to
grow up protecting herself from the judgmental gazes of her superiors and peers. Attributions are
the next facet of the four cognitive processes that can be seen in The Whore s Child. They are
defined as assessments of the cause of an action or behavior, (Canary 111) and can be both internal
and external. Internal meaning that the behavior is attributed to qualities such as

Spanking Effects On Children
15% of children are spanked before their first birthday, also 19 states in the U.S. allow spanking in

spanking should even be aloud. Spanking is classified as a corporal punishment, corporal means of

Comparison Of Joseph Stalin And Prague Spring
Glasnost, Joseph Stalin and Prague Spring were influential in bringing or attempting to bring
transformation to Russian society. Some attempts were more successful and unopposed then others.
When establishing transformation of a long standing ideal, it is not always accepted with open
arms. Joseph Stalin was betrayed by Nazi Germany, which in turn created an air of mistrust the
government foreign or otherwise, as well as maintains a chokehold on his country. The
consequences of his mistrust were establishing a brutal regime that wanted to continue the status
quo. A new change could only result by the passage of time and simply letting the old guard die
off before new ideas were reintroduced to Russia. Joseph Stalin (1878 1953) was the dictator of
the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) from 1929 to 1953. Under Stalin, the Soviet Union

The man just laughs, and says Sorry, you little scamp, if the boss doesn t kill ye, ye going to da

Dog fighting needs to have a harsher punishment because it allows owners to train their dogs in
horrible circumstances. In one case in England, there are reports of dogs and owners who come
to children s playgrounds to train the dogs to fight. In the article, it said the people make the
dogs bite on to the equipment and hang off it to strengthen their bite before the illegal fight. I
find it absolutely astonishing that anyone is stupid enough to train fighting dogs but to do so in

to many reports in the media of young children being seriously injured by dogs so to train a

which is used by toddlers is one of the most despicable things that I have heard in a long time.

The Ethical Dilemmas of Genetic Testing for Huntington s...
The Ethical Dilemmas of Genetic Testing for Huntington s Disease
INTRODUCTION Huntington s Disease (HD) is an autosomal dominant, progressive,
neurodegenerative disorder (Walker, 2007 and Harmon, 2007). The gene that causes the disease is
located on the fourth chromosome and causes an abnormal number of repeats in the patient s
genetic code (Harmon, 2007). Huntington s Disease can have devastating effects on patients quality
of life. The first symptoms of HD generally start between the ages of 30 and 45 and patients are
typically asymptomatic prior to this time (Terrenoire, 1992 and Walker, 2007). However, the
disease progresses with subtle changes in motor control, personality, and cognition. Patients
eventually develop distinct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, confidentiality rights also protect the patient s health information and right to privacy.
Another issue that arises concerns the confidentiality of HD diagnoses with relation to insurance
companies. Many patients fear that they will be denied or will no longer be able to afford
insurance coverage if the insurance company learns that they will one day have HD (Ethical issues
of genetic diagnosis, 2007). Insurance companies may also begin to mandate that genetically related
individuals undergo predictive genetic testing for HD if one family member develops the disease
(Ethical issues of genetic diagnosis, 2007). Another ethical debate reigns in the choice for HD
patients to have children and in prenatal screening for HD. Since HD is generally not diagnosed
until later in life, many patients have children before their HD diagnosis (Ethical issues of
genetic diagnosis, 2007). The children of one parent with HD have a 50% chance of developing
the disease themselves. However, if a patient tests positive for the gene that causes Huntington s
disease before having children, conflicts could arise between partners about whether or not to
even have children (Ethical issues of genetic diagnosis, 2007 and Tassicker, Savulescu, Skene,
Marshall, Fitzgerald Delatycki, 2003). The predictive genetic test for HD can also be performed
before a baby is born. If

John Bowlby Attachment Theory Essay
Research suggests that infant s brain continues to develop long after birth and infant s first
relationships have long lasting effects on their later learning and development. John Bowlby s
attachment theory focuses on the idea that the bond between a child and mother, is an important
part of children s healthy emotional development in their childhood and later in life. A key point
of Bowlby s theory shows that infants go through stages when forming relationships with
caregivers. Bowlby suggests that infants that are six weeks to six eight months old, start to
respond differently to caregivers they know, then to strangers. They then start to show signs of
attachment to a familiar caregiver from this age (Berk, 2013, p. 429). This means that the
relationships that form between a caregiver and a child, is an important part of the child s
development because the child can show a preference to who they want to be with. If an infant
struggles to form relationships, then they will continue to find it hard to do so, later in life.... Show

Marriage in Geoffrey Chaucer s The Wife of Bath s Prologue and Tale
The disparity in the outcomes of the hag s marriage and Alison s marriages in Geoffrey Chaucer s
The Wife of Bath s Prologue and Tale depends in part on the women s differing expectations of
their husbands. The hag s modus agendi depends on a knight s obligation to honour his pledge,
whereas Alison s modus operandi depends on her husbands conduct after marriage, i.e. on her
circumstances. Having saved the knight s life, the hag asks the knight to permit her to be his wife.

Like husbands in real life, Alison s husbands are not knights. They do not submit to her will out of
love for her beauty as she expects. Physically, she beats her fifth husband into submission, crucifies
her philandering fourth on the cross of jealousy, and outwits her three horny, old husbands through
flattery and deceit, attacking their fidelity to extort payment for the marriage debt. Alison s
marriages are battles, a state of war that continues until she wins the right to rule, after which she
controls the marital assets and the stipulation of the marriage debt. She sexually abuses her old
husbands, hints she wants her fourth dead, and curtails her young fifth s reading. Vae victis woe to
the conquered. Aggressively, Alison pitches them into their purgatory, realizing the right to rule in
her own hell.
Alison defies one s expectations. Described by the narrator as a church going woman nonpareil, she
presents herself unflatteringly in her prologue. Blinding herself to her immorality with her verbose
diatribe, she interprets the scriptures, classical literature, and mythology to suit her immediate
needs. By interpreting Alison s tale as wish fulfillment, however, one can grasp for a handle to her
motives, hopes, and agenda. The hag exploits the knight as a means to an end, to be young and
beautiful. As she gets older, Alison s fading features will not sustain her narcissism. To love herself,
she must be beautiful, even if only in the eyes of her next husband.

My Autobiography Of Music
Music is listened by every culture whether it be a from of a voice, instrument or a combination of

your in a mall the store might have relaxing songs playing while you conduct your daily business.
Even while watching TV shows there is always background musicplaying.
Growing up my music library was very dull to non exitance. My parents were immigrants from
India starting their journey in Canada around 1992 in Surrey British Columbia, a beautiful city
where I was later born in 1996. My parents alongside my grandma had a tough life from working
jobs in the farmers fields picking strawberry s to consistently finding a way to deal with financial

Analysis Of The Essay Medfield, Massachusetts By John...
Turns Out You Can Take the Country Out Of the Boy
In the essay Medfield, Massachusetts, Author John Preston recounts his childhood growing up in a
small town. He recalls deep rooted connections to the community and to the history of Medfield. At
first it appears that Preston s identification to his role as a member of his hometown is secure, but
as he later reveals, an irreconcilable identity conflict develops which causes him to make a very
difficult choice. The theory of the formation of in groups and their impact on how an individual s
identity is formed offers some insight into what change is taking place to Preston s identity that
will eventually cause him to seek acceptance in a new reference group outside of Medfield, the
town he felt so much a part of in his youth.
In his often cited essay, The Formation of In Groups, Gordon Allport offers his theory on how the
groups with which one identifies directly influence the development of one s individual identity.
An in group is a group where members share common traits such as societal status, religion, values
or sexual orientation. All the members are alike in some way and that similarity unites them as a
group. Allport suggests that one belongs to many in groups throughout his or her lifetime.
Individuals are born into some in groups, such as one s family, race or socio economic level; this
Allport terms as an ascribed status . People also obtain achieved status in a group such as one s

all the time, Where do you plan on working? , Do you think you will actually be able to get good

of tattoos? Over the years tattoos were not as popular as they are today. Tattoos were genuinely
for a few specific group or behavior. The image tattoos usually give were associated with gangs,

a form of expressing yourself, showing your love for art, and the most common reason people get
tattoos is to honor someone or something. According to a similar article, a lot of people who hold

tattoos are common for women and men questions are now going unanswered. The ongoing

Medea and Othello
Two tragedies from two different time period, Medea and Othello show similarities and differences
in their characters, story plots and settings. Euripedes Medea written in the classical period and
Shakespeare s Othello written in the romantic era, the two tragedies shows different feel of what
tragedies are.
First of all, the most obvious difference between these two play is how Medea shows unities
(time, place and action) whilst Othello has none. It s clearly shown in the first scene, as soon as
the characters come out, that in the Medea, it s a set place, and there would be no movement. The

In Medea, the story plot is sort of told through the chorus. The group of woman and the nurse,
kind of act as Medea s conscious and tells Medea what s morally right and what s morally wrong.
In a way the chorus is inside Medea s head, yet they tell us the basic story plot and what s
happening within the story. Whereas in Othello, there is no longer choruses however there are
soliloquies in which characters break that wall between the audience and themselves and tell
something that s in their mind only to the audience, and the audience assume that the other
characters on stage can t hear it. In Othello, Iago does most of the soliloquies, he does it at the end
of each scene, talking to himself and staring right into the camera to tell the audience what he
actually considers doing and such.
Despite all these differences, there are also some areas in which the two stories are similar. For
example, each tragic hero has their set of hubris, hamartia and agon. These are characteristics of a
tragic hero which are seen in both Medea and Othello. Quickling defining what these terms are
Hubris is self confidence, hamartia chracter s mistake and agon being one s internal struggle.
Taking these terms into consideration, in Medea, her hamartia is her excess love for Jason which
brings her to her downfall. Her hubris was that she had too much self pride to leave to Athens and

utilizing a mixture of conference calls, all employee meetings, and also email. By using these
multiple different mediums we will be able to touch the different employees throughout the

the key takeaways and the results after the goals have been achieved. The timeline for this step

Laboratory Information System Is The Root Problem Of The Tat
After the analysis of all the observations and data interpretation the team concluded that the
laboratory information system is the root problem of the TAT in the laboratory. The department
head talked to the supervisor about the update of the LIS. However, the supervisor informed the
team that the institution does not have enough budget for the new analyzer. The department head
explained to them that they can try to fix their budget so that the departments can get enough
money to avail a new update of their LIS. As their primary action, the team had a small meeting
with the other staff of each departments and informed everybody that the primary problem of their
increasing TAT is the old LIS. As the meeting goes by, the team explained that all of the
technologist will need to be trained and undergo to competency assessment and some revision on
the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) on each department. After the meeting, the supervisor
went to the financial and budgetary department to request a copy of the budget for their department
(Refer to the Appendix A). The department head listed on the separate paper the deductions that the
laboratory has prior to the meeting such as: (a)No addition money for new employees (b)No budget
to buy new analyzer. The team took the two reason into consideration and tried to redistribute their
budget funds. From this, the department head knew that they cannot touch their revenue and
income because this will show the services and the

Heathcliff A Bad Man
but where did he come from, the little dark thing, harbored by a good man to his bane (Bronte
c34) Heathcliff is a very troubled and dark man, but he did not become this way overnight. In this
essay, I will be explaining how Heathcliff became who he was and how he morphed from an
abandoned street urchin into a diabolical wealthy Miser. Many things or people influence Heathcliff
s life such as how he has been treated, the violence displayed to him and from him, and Catherine
and the way she acts when she is with him and when she is with others. All of these factors have
made Heathcliff the way he was portrayed at the end of the novel. In the beginning of Nelly s story,
we learn that Heathcliff was adopted by Mr. Earnshaw. When Mr. Earnshaw

Earnshaw dies their bond becomes stronger. Then everything goes south for Heathcliff when
Catherine meets Edgar and chooses to marry him. I believe that this upsets Heathcliff so much
because Catherine is his only friend and this is when Heathcliff really starts being manipulative
and evil. While Catherine was staying with Edgar Hindley treats Heathcliff like a servant and
denies him an education. This infuriated Heathcliff so he leaves for 3 years. As a result of Hindley
s torture Heathcliff becomes bitter and uncivilized. Heathcliff swears revenge against Hindley and
then follows through when he moves back to wuthering heights and takes everything from him
Hindley in a game of poker. After he s pretty much ruined Hindley s life and turns Hareton into a
miniature Heathcliff it is not enough. Heathcliff marries Isabella and then tortures her in their
marriage so much so that she just leaves so that he can secretly torture Edgar by being the heir to
his fortune. This is the time when Heathcliff starts showing his diabolical ways and begins to ruin
everyone s life. Heathcliff is very evil and I think that it spawns from when he was a child, and
how mistreated he was and now he just wants to miss treat everyone in his life so that they feel the
anguish that he always

The Effects Of Climate Change On The State Of Colorado
It is undeniable that climate change is drastically changing our current landscapes throughout the
world. There are many individuals who consider climate change to be a natural and organic
progression, but many studies indicate that due to excess greenhouse gas emissions, humans are
accelerating global warming at an alarming rate. It s convenient to continuously dismiss the studies
and evidence that suggest climate changeis real and it could have serious consequences, but when
these drastic changes are taking place in our own backyard, it becomes a harsh reality. There is
longstanding research, which indicates that the Colorado River has been in a drought since the
early 2000 s and researchers allege that due to rising temperatures, the... Show more content on

According to Dr. Denning, as the global climate changes, average temperatures will rise sharply.
Because Colorado is so far inland, this effect will be stronger because large bodies of water help
mitigate temperature swings and Colorado is far from our oceans or Great Lakes. Imagine the
climate of Albuquerque as far north as Greeley. Additionally, we must consider the agriculture
industry is estimated to be worth around forty one billion dollars in Colorado, which means climate
change will have a drastic impact on food production. Colorado s geographic location is
problematic in itself, but the continuous temperature changes means longer growing seasons.
Ultimately, the rising temperatures make plants consume more water and it reduces the annual
snowpack, which creates a conundrum of issues. Similarly, we can assume a warmer Colorado
will also mean a much drier Colorado, which will hurt agriculture on every level.
A report submitted to the Colorado Energy Office, titled The Colorado Climate Change
Vulnerability Study presents key vulnerabilities the state is faced with due to climate change. The
report highlights many areas, but it offers insight into negative effects from climate variability and
how to adapt to them. Since the agricultural sector plays such a critical role in Colorado s
economy, its vulnerabilities are detailed at length. The report splits

Henry Fleming In Red Badge Of Courage
Henry Fleming is a teenager with romantic notions about the glories of war. He enlists in the
Union army and quickly discovers sides of himself he never knew existed. The horrors, boredom,
and complete injustice of war bring out all of Henry s worst (and occasionally best) tendencies.
Initially, Henry fears that he will run like a coward when faced with his first battle. He s been in
the army for a while now but hasn t seen any action yet. Talking with the other men, he tries to
get them to admit that they are scared as well. No one wants to say as much; they all seem
perfect examples of fearless men, which leaves Henry feeling even worse about his own
apprehension. Shortly before his first battle, he sees his first dead body, a gruesome corpse.
Meanwhile we meet two men, Jim Conklin or the Tall Soldier whom Henry has known for years,
and Wilson or the Loud Soldier. Wilson, afraid that he will die in battle, gives Henry a packet of
letters to deliver to his family after the war. When the fighting finally starts, Henry doesn t do too
badly. However, when a second round of fighting begins after a brief lull, Henry is terrified and
heads for the hills. Afterwards, he tries to rationalize his decision (to himself) by claiming it was
simply a survival instinct. He oscillates between a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

between battles, he and Wilson overhear a general referring to their regiment as mule drivers and

prove himself. In the next battle, he and Wilson see the Union flag bearer fall. They rush forward,
take up the flag, and rally their comrades to fight. Afterwards, the superior officers praise this
courageous action. In the novel s final battle, Henry captures the Confederate flag as well and helps

Should Black Men around the World Be Placed on the Endangered Species List?

Friday, March 12, 2010 .
We have developed the blood bank, created the automatic traffic signal and invented the gas
mask that saved the lives of countless American men in World War I. However, under the World
War I slogan Making the World Safe for Democracy black men were not allowed to join the
Marines, Coast Guard or Air Force. We have created over three hundred different products derived
from peanuts, one hundred from the use of sweet potatoes, and seventy five from pecans. We have

when it comes to black men in America? Is this a from of self destruction?
Although it is clear that black on black crimes exist, in the United States we have a long history of
white on black crimes. November 25, 2006, Sean Bell was hot and killed on the morning after
his bachelor party, and two of his friends where severely wounded. Mr. Bell was holding his
bachelor party at Club Kalua in Jamaica section of Queens, New York. This night club was under
investigated by seven undercover police detectives, as a result of accusations that the owners of
the club had been fostering prostitution (Baker, P16).. According to Report Karen Zraizk of the
New York Times, Guzman had an argument inside the club with a woman and threatened to get a
gun. One of Bell s friends was though to have said yo, get my gun as they left the scene. Fearing
that a shooting might occur, one of the plain clothed African Americanofficer Gescard Isnora

Short Story Of Jayden s Poem
Jayden is in coma. What could possibly happen next? Jordan asked fearfully
Gerald replied Whatever happens, happens . While sitting in the waiting room, Jordan gets a
call from Karen s parents. Jordan was crying throughout the whole phone call. Then shortly after,
Jayden s skin turned very pale and slowly his breath shortened, until he couldn t breath anymore
and he died a slow, painful death. It all started one day when 4 college students Jordan, Jayden,
Karen, and Gerald, decided to take a walk on the beach. It was a very calm evening, the waves
look beautiful washing over the shore and the sky was a bright pink,as the sun was setting. As they

quickly and left without a trace. That was weird Karen thought to herself. Soon the girls left to

  • 2. Race And Racism In The Colorblind Society Final Paper Color blindness is the notion that individuals live in society disregarding racial characteristics. In the functioning of color blindness, people are treated equally in regards to skin color, there are no distinctions, profiling, or categorization based on race. It is the belief that we now live in a colorblind society where raceprivilege no longer exercises or shapes the power it once did. Realistically, we live in a society that defines race and is defined by race, in turn makes the ideology of color blindness inaccurate. People who are color blind cannot change or fix the system because color blindness ignores the racismthat deals with social structures. These individuals can only perpetuate racism, as it already exists. The perspective of the color blind defines racism as a problem of individual race relation and assumes individuals can erase racism by learning about races other than their own. It does not however, address instructional racism. After interviewing three successful African Americans, we learn how their personal experiences with racism varied throughout their lives and how being successful and Black has had no bearing on them being affected by racism. Most importantly, we are able to interpret their perspectives about why the color blind ideology is not credible. If we consider the American media, we examine the way in which they play on the genuine representations of race and promote the idea that we are a progressive society and are ... • 3. History of African Americans and Higher Education Essay... For blacks, the history of higher education typically points to segregated education. Before the Civil War, the social system promoted the belief that blacks wouldn t get return on their time spent in higher education. Brown and Ricard (2007) noted that most North institutions were reluctant to allow black enrollment in colleges and universities, and in the South, where slaveholder s were still powerhouse businessmen, slaves would never be allowed to become more educated than their owners. The reluctance of the White leaders to allow blacks to formally be accepted into higher educationprograms held blacks back from achieving what many aspired to, and were fully capable of, experience. Through research of the literature, this paper will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When ex slaves demanded a formal public schooling, they were really asking the South to develop and embrace a relatively new philosophy of education. Effectively, they were having white southerners pay for the education of people they once owned as property, and had the right to receive what most whites in the region hadn t had available previously. According to Anderson (n.d.), the Reconstruction Era (1877) presented a unique problem for black professionals. Although more blacks were becoming qualified for educational and employment opportunities, the job demand shifted to industrial needs. For black leaders, having to get industrial training instead of a broader, more useful education was a beneficial short term answer for employment. The primary advocate for industrial training was Booker T. Washington. Washington, educated at the Tuskegee Institute located in Alabama, expressed publicly that manual labor will be more beneficial to individuals because that was the type of work available (Anderson, n.d.). On the opposite side of Washington s argument for occupational training was W. E. B. Du Bois. Du Bois, who came from Harvard, had higher aspirations than occupational education, with a conviction that Black life and culture should be a primary topic of Black thought and investigation (Anderson, n.d. p.1). Considering the value of a general degree in comparison to a technical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Disadvantages Of Enlightened Despotism Some of the traits most associated with enlightened despotism include many types of reforms inspired by the Enlightenment made by absolute monarchs, these reforms were of social, economic, legal, and educational, and religious tolerance. These reforms did not allow for the question of their central power, or of the accepted social class order. I believe this form of government to an extent could work with today s political climate, as it has been going. Although, rule, entirely of the monarch, would eventually fall, and absolute power would bring mostly disadvantages. Religious toleration is something that is needed within all societies, as it should be a promise never to change, because without toleration of religion, any type of war is able... This is where Prussia gained this province of the West, where the isolation of East Prussia happened by linking with monarchical states. This had made the kingdom more capable of defense and within its territory, Prussia was more predominantly to the East, and had also made the dividing social and political differences sharpen with that of the other states of Western Europe.Russia s czarist government in one way, helped protect the rights of nobles and peasants in the Table of Ranks. This table let all men have the ability to serve the state, and had to longer allow Russia s military to rely on heredity positions. This gave larger privileges to those who placed higher in the ranks, which can be compared with England s parliamentary democracy of the protection of their rights, though in order of their services they had committed. This quote follows how King Louis XIV territorial ambition did not suit him in the future as it would the ... Though my ears are not exceptionally honed nor trained to point out musical mistakes, I would like to add that mistakes, if any, were not thoroughly noticeable. The musicians blended well and produced the right effect based on the musical context. However, when the vocal soloists sang in the final movement of the Ninth Symphony, their voices were drowned out by the loudness of the orchestra and large chorus. It did not help that the soloists were located lower than chorus, which made the perception of hearing the soloists more difficult. The conductor, Hector Guzman, was effective in leading the music in that whenever the piece called for dynamics, his movements told the musicians how much more or less it was needed. And also, Mr. Guzman did not just interact with the orchestra, but the chorus and vocal soloists as well. He seemed to be respected by his fellow musicians and gave the proper recognition to the soloists of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Give me the willingness to lay my burdens down and be a living witness to what you prophesized to Matthew when you said If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me. Contrary to popular belief the name Frankenstein is not that of the monster, but of his creator Victor, and follows the atrocities of this young man s harrowing existence. Written by Mary Shelley, Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus follows the life of Victor Frankenstein and his horrendous creation in a blend of mystery, science fiction, and romanticism. he novel opens not with that of Victor Frankenstein, but with a series of letters from an arctic explorer by the name of Robert Walton. These aforementioned letters establish Walton s desiree s to find new passage routes, and instead discovers a very ill and frostbitten Victor Frankenstein on the edges of the North Pole. • 9. Communism Throughout history, countries have developed economic systems according to their political ideology. The nation s ideology directly influences and becomes entrenched in economic decisions of the state. Whether a country develops a free market, a mixed, or a command economy, the foundation of the system lies in how to people choose to use and distribute resources. Free market and capitalist ideals emerged in reaction to the mercantilist policies of the Colonial era (1700s). The Colonial era, a period (dominated by government regulation and control over imports) where European powers set out to extend their influence in the New World (with the intent to extract riches), was the epicenter for capitalism. These European powers sought out colonies... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Europe industrialized, revolutionizing the way of life in many countries like UK, there were adverse consequences. Though the manufacturing and availability of jobs increased prosperity and lifted spirits, living conditions were abhorrent and inequality (of wealth) was rampant As free market capitalism began to show its flaws, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels wrote their communist manifesto in response to the living and working conditions of the working class in England. Communism calls for the government to make economic decisions and direct production (through quotas and plans), no individual ownership (all state owned), total equality, and for the working class, the Proletariat, to unite against the Bourgeoisie (upper class). In a command economy, there are two main sectors in the class system: the Bourgeoisie, the wealthy, and the Proletariat, the working class, who have a hostile and antagonistic relationship. In contrast to Smith s free market ideology, Marx is anti class, believes in government control of the economy, that the division of labor is degrading and dehumanizing (one loses individuality), and that competition must be abolished. This complete reversal in economic ideology, towards the opposite spectrum eventually failed in most communist regimes like the Soviet Union. Only one nation continues to exist as a communist state, which is North Korea. Thus, countries with command economies suffer in the global market, incapable of innovating or incentivizing their people to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The game has seen astounding players who set the stage alight through terrific performances. The one aspect of the game which has been quite forgotten at times when that quality and level of play is raised when two opposition teams collide in form of players with contrasting style and temperament. The role of antagonist is seldom neglected as such characters that left an indelible mark on the field.Altough various words such as villain or the bad guy like terms are used but I think the term, heel as coined in world wrestling federation seemed to the most befitting word to some of these players that have gone down in the history books due to infamous events and scenes. The earliest character in cricket as a heel was Douglas Jardine who led an England to gain the urn and had hatched a devious plan to unsettle great Don Bradman. • 11. Kathleen Blanco Speech Analysis To keep things simple, people simply want to be heard, and they will do anything in order for their audience to listen. There are various ways in which the speaker would gain the right to be heard. Former Governor of Louisiana, Kathleen Blanco, uses various forms to obtain attention from her audience as she addresses the LouisianaLegislator on Hurricane Katrinawhere she not only discusses the effects of the hurricane but also acknowledges the people who have helped out so far. Blanco does an exceptional job gaining attention through her audience through pathos, or emotions. She gets to people s emotion side by expressing heartbreak, loss, devastation, and above all; hope. Many people, if not all, have experienced at least one of these emotions at some point in there lives, which helps them relate to Blanco s speech. Blanco introduces the subject of loss, devastation and heartbreak by stating ...our thoughts are the families who were literally ripped apart by the storm.... I have met brothers separated from sisters, mothers and fathers searching for children, and children who have seen things no child should have to witness... my heart goes out to every family (Blanco ..). Nobody should have to go through that in their lives, no matter your age or gender. Too many people have experienced some form of loss, devastation or heartbreak that has changed them. Above all, she introduces what all people want to hear; hope, by stating ...we will transform despair into hope and show the world the true meaning of determination (Blanco ..). After the massive devastation that happened to their town, hope is all people are thinking about; they want to forget all the negative events and make sure everything goes back to normal. All things aside, the people of Louisiana want to show the world that they can come back after such a horrible disaster, and their Governor is all on board in helping support that cause. In conclusion, Blanco is able to connect with her audience through people s emotions and by being a part of the people of Louisiana s side; she is willing to stand with them and help by doing as much as she can. Another way Blanco gets ahold of her audience s attention is through ethos, or credibility. She ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Software Development And Its Development As we saw throughout the last forty or so years is that computer systems frequently evolve and that developmental change is inevitable and software development is no stranger to this, which is where agile development or the term that some use agile software development comes into play. This is a concept that searches for alternatives to the traditional way of managing a project and based on the foundation that change is essential to software development. Throughout this paper, we will look at the reasons that brought about the change in thinking with regard to software development, discuss some of the key principles of agile development, methods under agile development and the benefits of the use of agile development. Let s begin this document with a discussion into what brought about the change in thinking. The biggest reason for the change in methodology in software development is due to the failures realized through the use of traditional sequential development. With these failures an assembly of individuals developed a declaration of policy that included the following ideologies: Individuals and interactions over processes and tools, working software over comprehensive documentation, customer collaboration over contract negotiation and finally responding to change. ( Manifesto for agile software development, n.d.). Let s continue on with this document and examine at some of the principles with regard to the concept of agile development. In economic terms, Global Interdependence is increasing as time goes on. In other words, we as the United States, as well as other countries, rely on each other for the three factors of production, Land, Labor and Capital. As noted in Thomas L. This asks countries to give the same benefits that it would give to its domestic products, to foreign products. National Treatment and MFN are simply put, cornerstones of all international trade. The World Trade Organizationis an integral part of Globalization due to its policies of fair and balanced trade between countries of greater affluence and countries of less prosperity. In addition to BMW, other companies such as Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, and Mercedes have constructed multiple factories in America. In Jealous husband Returns in form of Parrot Robert Olen Butlers main character is a parrot whose character traits consist of jealousy, insecurity, and lack of confrontment. The Author creates a story that is told from a perspective that is informative but also vivid. The development of the story allows the reader to visually analyze a picture as the story is being told. The overall theme of the story is that relationships are tough when they consist of certain traits. This is shown through the story s character, tone and symbolism. Within the text there is a character referred to as The guy from shipping who the main character is jealous of. His ex wife mentions this character three times throughout the story which cause him to become enraged and foolish. For example, Hey, I m not stupid. She said one thing about him and then another and right after the third one I locked myself in the bathroom because I couldn t rage about this anymore (Butler 2). When his wife begins to mention other males who lived better lives than that such of his, it caused him to become very jealous. Even though his jealous causes him to become enraged, he doesn t say anything because he feels that it is better to remain silent. His system of acting uses a balance between an actor s personal experience and an attempt to imagine being in their character s situation. Stanislavski believed by preparing correctly with characterization, you can harness your subconscious and create a truthful performance, Because the very best that can happen is to have the actor completely carried away by the play. Then regardless of his own will, he lives the part, not noticing how he feels, not thinking about what he does, and it all moves of its own accord, subconsciously and intuitively. However, one cannot create subconsciously without inspiration, and inspiration cannot be forced, so Stanislavski... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those feelings, drawn from our actual experience, and transferred to our part, are what give life to the play . Also, by using emotional memory for the characterization, the actor will be able to understand what Miss Julie is going through and the emotions she is required to display. However, Emotional memory recall proved to be too exhausting for actors and produced negative results like tension and hysteria. Stanislavski also realized that unconscious feelings needed to be coaxed, lured and enticed gently, rather than forced out. In ordinary life, truth is what really exists, what a person really knows. Whereas on the stage it consists of something that is not actually in existence but which could happen . This line is especially important in realism, where the aim of the actor is to create the appearance of reality or truth on stage. An actor does not actually believe in the truth of the events on stage, only in the imaginative creation of them , this then posed the question of creating the appearance of reality for the spectator. Stanislavski answered this question by creating the magic if , and thus, the character s objectives drove the actor s physical action choices. The actor had to answer the question, if I were in Miss Julie s position, what would I do? and this was a question that should be constantly asked during rehearsal processes for characterization. • 17. Jean Piaget Jean Piaget created a framework of cognitive development in a series of four stages: sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational. According to Piaget, the outcome of learning depends on what cognitive developmental stage the learner is in. For example, you would not give a calculus problem to a two to seven year old child because they have not yet entered the stage of formal operation, or abstract, logical thinking. A child must be presented with an environment that suits their thought. Piaget s first stage, sensorimotor, is from birth to the age of two. In this stage, the child comprehends the world by coordinating sensory experiences with physical movements. The focus is put on reflexes instead of cognition due to the fact that in this stage children have not yet began to enter symbolic thought. This is a stage of experimentation and exploration. The parents should allow their child to play with toys that make sounds in order to get them to understand cause and effect relationships. One example is playing Peek a Boo,... To discourage this, the parent should get the child to mentally place themselves in someone else s position. Children in this stage also have a lack of knowledge in conservation. • 20. Cell Phones And Its Effect On Children Essay Teenagers are constantly on their cell phone, which leads to extreme overuse of it. In an acknowledgeable book, Ling (2004) described how teenagers use cell phones and the direct effects of having one. Adolescence is a period in someone s life in which they develop their own identity and self esteem. So, teenagers are at a very influential time in their life and cell phones take advantage of that. When a teen decides to use a cell phone, they are not acting with their own ideas, but rather the culture of their peers. Mobile phones play a role in the teen s peer group. Since a teen is still developing their own identity and sense of self esteem, they fall into the vicious cycle of only doing what other teens are. Like a lot of technology, cell phones have not been around that long. So, no generation of teenagers have really been able to access this kind of technology before. Since it is a newer technology, teens and parents are still making up the rules as they go. As a result, teenagers easily over use their cell phone without even realizing it. When no clear boundaries are set, teenagers take advantage of that, and use the device as much as possible. Some teenagers objectify the cell phone and incorporate it into their daily lives, but their parents are still way back in the adoption process. Mobile phones are the way that teens inside a peer group communicate now, using it as a main form of communication makes it easier to overuse the cell phone. In a well conducted ... Taking a Look at Marfan Syndrome Marfan Syndrome, which is named after Antoine Marfan who first described the disorder in 1896, is a genetic disorder that affects the connective tissues found throughout the body. This syndrome can affect many different parts of the body, but the most commonly affected are the heart, blood vessels, bones, joints, respiratory system, nervous system, and eyes. Thankfully, a person s intelligence is never affected. Marfan syndromeaffects people from all races and ethnic backgrounds, and this often makes it hard to detect. It is a pretty rare genetic disorder affecting only about 1 in every 5,000 people. This syndrome is from a mutation of a gene on chromosome 15 and this causes problems in the production of fibrillin 1 which is a protein that is an important part of connective tissue. The name for the gene is FBN1. Basically, it is the glue that helps to support the tissues in the human body. A child born to a parent with this syndrome has a 50% of having it. However, in the remaining 25%, neither parent has the disease which gives them a 1 in 10,000 chance of having a child with this disorder. When a child of two unaffected parents is born with it then the genetic mutation occurs in either the egg or sperm cell at the time of conception. The defect of this glue leads to phenotypes such as a thin, lanky build, flexible joints, sunken eyes, a chest that is sunken in or bulges out, curvature of the spine to one side (scoliosis), and flat feet. • 22. Identity And Identity In The Whore s Child By Richard Russo The Whore s Child is a famous short story by Richard Russo. The story follows the life of a nun, Sister Ursula, as she joins a college fiction writing course and begins writing her life story. As she writes, with the help of her professor and the feedback from her class, she discovers more about herself and the truth about her life. A key element of this story is the depth to which the characters are explored, given the limited amount of time for characterization. A primary way to explore this characterization is through the works of prominent identity theorists one of which being Canary et al. Another key aspect of Canary s theory is that of the four cognitive processes stereotypes, attributions, person perception, and interpersonal goals. According to Canary, stereotypes are when categories are about people and are based on their group membership (Canary 114). In Russo s story, Sister Ursula writes about how, as a child, she understood that her mother s being a prostitute made her the whore s child, that her mother s wickedness diminished her father s value (8). This excerpt from Sister Ursula s story establishes how the negative stereotypes around her mother s lifestyle impacted her childhood. Even today, prostitution is considered dishonorable in society, especially within religious circles, and thus, Sister Ursula s mother s stigma was attached to her as a child, which caused her to be inherently disliked in the nun community. Again, this could be a contributing factor to Sister Ursula s cold and steadfast demeanor, as she had to grow up protecting herself from the judgmental gazes of her superiors and peers. Attributions are the next facet of the four cognitive processes that can be seen in The Whore s Child. They are defined as assessments of the cause of an action or behavior, (Canary 111) and can be both internal and external. Internal meaning that the behavior is attributed to qualities such as ... The first symptoms of HD generally start between the ages of 30 and 45 and patients are typically asymptomatic prior to this time (Terrenoire, 1992 and Walker, 2007). Insurance companies may also begin to mandate that genetically related individuals undergo predictive genetic testing for HD if one family member develops the disease (Ethical issues of genetic diagnosis, 2007). Another ethical debate reigns in the choice for HD patients to have children and in prenatal screening for HD. Since HD is generally not diagnosed until later in life, many patients have children before their HD diagnosis (Ethical issues of genetic diagnosis, 2007). The children of one parent with HD have a 50% chance of developing the disease themselves. John Bowlby s attachment theory focuses on the idea that the bond between a child and mother, is an important part of children s healthy emotional development in their childhood and later in life. A key point of Bowlby s theory shows that infants go through stages when forming relationships with caregivers. Bowlby suggests that infants that are six weeks to six eight months old, start to respond differently to caregivers they know, then to strangers. They then start to show signs of attachment to a familiar caregiver from this age (Berk, 2013, p. 429). This means that the relationships that form between a caregiver and a child, is an important part of the child s development because the child can show a preference to who they want to be with. • 38. Medea and Othello Two tragedies from two different time period, Medea and Othello show similarities and differences in their characters, story plots and settings. Euripedes Medea written in the classical period and Shakespeare s Othello written in the romantic era, the two tragedies shows different feel of what tragedies are. First of all, the most obvious difference between these two play is how Medea shows unities (time, place and action) whilst Othello has none. It s clearly shown in the first scene, as soon as the characters come out, that in the Medea, it s a set place, and there would be no movement. The staging is nice and clear and throughout the whole story, the characters are in one place, and there is a unity between the time, place and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Medea, the story plot is sort of told through the chorus. The group of woman and the nurse, kind of act as Medea s conscious and tells Medea what s morally right and what s morally wrong. In a way the chorus is inside Medea s head, yet they tell us the basic story plot and what s happening within the story. Whereas in Othello, there is no longer choruses however there are soliloquies in which characters break that wall between the audience and themselves and tell something that s in their mind only to the audience, and the audience assume that the other characters on stage can t hear it. In Othello, Iago does most of the soliloquies, he does it at the end of each scene, talking to himself and staring right into the camera to tell the audience what he actually considers doing and such. Despite all these differences, there are also some areas in which the two stories are similar. For example, each tragic hero has their set of hubris, hamartia and agon. These are characteristics of a tragic hero which are seen in both Medea and Othello. Quickling defining what these terms are Hubris is self confidence, hamartia chracter s mistake and agon being one s internal struggle. Taking these terms into consideration, in Medea, her hamartia is her excess love for Jason which brings her to her downfall. Her hubris was that she had too much self pride to leave to Athens and her agon, once again being that passionate woman who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are many individuals who consider climate change to be a natural and organic progression, but many studies indicate that due to excess greenhouse gas emissions, humans are accelerating global warming at an alarming rate. It s convenient to continuously dismiss the studies and evidence that suggest climate changeis real and it could have serious consequences, but when these drastic changes are taking place in our own backyard, it becomes a harsh reality. There is longstanding research, which indicates that the Colorado River has been in a drought since the early 2000 s and researchers allege that due to rising temperatures, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Dr. Denning, as the global climate changes, average temperatures will rise sharply. Because Colorado is so far inland, this effect will be stronger because large bodies of water help mitigate temperature swings and Colorado is far from our oceans or Great Lakes. Imagine the climate of Albuquerque as far north as Greeley. Additionally, we must consider the agriculture industry is estimated to be worth around forty one billion dollars in Colorado, which means climate change will have a drastic impact on food production. Colorado s geographic location is problematic in itself, but the continuous temperature changes means longer growing seasons. Ultimately, the rising temperatures make plants consume more water and it reduces the annual snowpack, which creates a conundrum of issues. Similarly, we can assume a warmer Colorado will also mean a much drier Colorado, which will hurt agriculture on every level. A report submitted to the Colorado Energy Office, titled The Colorado Climate Change Vulnerability Study presents key vulnerabilities the state is faced with due to climate change. The report highlights many areas, but it offers insight into negative effects from climate variability and how to adapt to them. Since the agricultural sector plays such a critical role in Colorado s economy, its vulnerabilities are detailed at length. The report splits ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
