Harlem Renaissance Essay
HARLEM RENAISSANCE
Throughout the history of African Americans, there have been important historical figures as well
as times. Revered and inspirational leaders and eras like, Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights
Movement, Nat Turner and the slave revolt, or Huey Newton and the Black Panther Party. One
such period that will always remain a significant part of black art and culture is the Harlem
Renaissance. It changed the meaning of art and poetry, as it was known then. Furthermore, the
Harlem Renaissance forever left a mark on the evolution of the black culture.
The Harlem Renaissance found its birth in the early 1920 s, in Harlem, New York. The period has
been thought of as one of African Americans greatest times in writing.... Show more content on

Weldon s collection also included a young talented poet named Langston Hughes. Hughes had a
love for music, mainly the blues, which became a bridge between African AmericanLiterature and
Folk music.
Zora Neale Hurston, an anthropologist originally born in Florida, wrote the literary magazine Fire!
Although it lasted only one issue because of financial difficulties, Hughes, publisher Wallace
Thurman, and a number of other influential black artists had shared in making one of most
recognized Harlem Renaissance materials. Hurston later went on to publish Their Eyes were
Watching God, in 1937, still keeping with the themes of strong black characters.
Music was another art form found in the Harlem Renaissance. It became the background,
inspiration, and the structure for the Harlem Renaissance literature. A style of music known as jazz
represented the new, urban, unpredictable lifestyle.
One of the greatest jazz singers of this time was Bessie Smith. She was a southerner and her
recordings were rare for black performers during her time. Duke Ellington, whose legendary band
played at the Cotton Club, personifies jazz. Charlie Parker and Billie Holiday would also record
jazz music form the 1930 s until the 1950 s.
Langston Hughes was one of the few poets that would combine both blues and jazz to create an
original art form. Claude McKay used the jazz atmosphere in his novel Home to Harlem. In this
novel, he presented

The Longest Ride
The Longest Ride The warm wind hits my face and time seems to stop. The sound of my horses
hooves thumping against the ground is the only thing I hear. Flying wildly in the wind, her
mane shimmers in the sunlight. The sound of laughter breaks the silence. I turn to see a woman
riding a pure white horse next to me. Her long brown hair and her soft blue eyes send a shock of
remembrance, but I don t know who she is. I think hard, trying to search my memories of her. A
gold heart shines on her boots. I know who she is! She s BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! 6:00 blinks
bright red on my clock. I feel dizzy and my heart is pounding. sleepily, I push the thick covers off
of me and slowly sit up. I don t remember what happened in my dream, but I keep seeing her face.
It s my mom. My mom died in a car accident when I was five. People say I look just like her, the
brown hair, blue eyes, everything. The only thing I have left of her is a fat cat and boots with a
gold heart on each one. I don t remember what she was like, but my dad is always going on and
on about how I act just like her. Anna breakfast is ready! my dad shouted downstairs. I walk
groggily over to my closet and decide on a light blue t shirt, jeans, and my mom s boots. When I
walk downstairs the sweet smell of blueberry pancakes fills the air. When I sit down at the table
my dad walks with a mound of pancakes on a large plate and he sets it on the table. My dad s not
the best cook, but nobody can make better blueberry

Essay about The 59th Unnamed Cave in Florida
The last article talks about the 59th Unnamed Cave, in Florida. This cave is located in the
eastern part of the Florida Panhandle. From the dates of the artifacts and the dates of the glyph,
the site was occupied in the Late Woodland period. The cave was discover in 2007 when a group
of cave explorer saw fine engravings on the wall. This site was the first cave art site that was
found in Florida and it is the second rock art site that was found in the states. Rock art is very
rare in Florida, but now with the site found there is a wider perspective on the importance of rock
art. The site did not only include the petroglyph drawing of the past, but it included some artifacts
that was use to help date the time that the cave was occupied.... Show more content on

One of the way that we can tell is by looking at the weathering of the image. If the edge of the
image is nice and sharp then the engraving is new. If the edges of the engraving is nice and
rounded we can safely say that the engraving have been there for a while. The main point of this
article is to talk about the findings of the 59th Unnamed Cave in Florida. This cave is interesting
because there are very few sites in Florida. This was only one out of the two sites that had rock
art in them that is in the state of Florida. I really like this article because instead of just talking
about what they see in the petroglyph, the authors actually highlighted the engravings so that it is
easier for the readers to see what they are talking about. The other articles I have read only talked
about the engraving but they did not really highlighted the engraving which makes it very hard for
the reader to see what they were talking about. Another good point of this article is that they
showed a comparison between the older cave engraving versus the new engraving. By adding this
information it help the reader understand the difference between the two time frame that the
engraving was marked. One of the things that I wished this article would have is the radio carbon
dating section. The other articles I read about all have some type of radio carbon dating to try to
date when the site were occupied. This article only talked about the ceramic sherds that they

Why We Buy The Science Of Shopping Summary
Have you ever notice how the marketers always trying to get to you or get your attention?
Marketers will always find a way to lure the consumer to come into their stores. According to the
book Why we buy: The Science of Shopping by Paco Underhill, he talks about the strategy of
marketing and consumers. The book explores how people are influenced by the retailers. He talks
about how people act and react. The consumer response to store merchandise and displays. I chose
Sephora as my topic of this essay.; it s the highly most popular beauty store. We see how every
customer reacts to their product and how the employees are productive and connect with their
customers. The best strategy Sephora company uses to market to consumers is to have their

The employees in Sephora use premier packaging, customer courtesy, and sample products to
attract the consumer. As I walk inside of the Sephora I notice they greet me right away saying hi
welcome to Sephora. I have noticed that the makeup is on the right side, skincare is on the left
side and perfume is at the back. I also notice customers going crazy about a particular brand and
being able to get the product they been waiting for. Each section has different brands of makeup
product from a to z. I notice that every section has two mirrors on each side and a big mirror in the
middle. Marketing strategies use displays to attract customers. Sephora is an open shelf
environment, which encourages the consumers to test, smell, apply, the product. The sales clerk at
the stores is trained to assist consumers. Paco also stated in the book how marketing strategy
displays their product and allow us to touch and try out the merchandise. Store displays

Increasing the Diversity of Plants
According to the Simpson s diversity index calculations of all the sites in figure 7, Site 3 had the
highest index reading of 0.701 out of 1. With 1 being the highest possible value, it indicates very
high diversity while 0; the lowest possible value, indicates no/very low diversity. This suggests that
0.701 is a high reading, indicating high diversity of plantspecies. The analysis of the first hypothesis
There is a direct correlation between the diversity of plant species and the relative humidityat each
site , will help explain why site 3 had the highest diversity index reading when compared to the
other sites. To answer this hypothesis, data will be used from graphs in figure 2, 3 and 4. It can
be suggested from figure 2, 3 and 4 that the abiotic conditions of site 3 have proven to increase
the diversity of plants when compared to other sites. For plant A, according to figure 2, the
humidity (rH) decreases from 64% in site 2 to 50.1% at site 3 while the total number of plant A
increases from 9 in site 2 to 80 in site 3. Even though the diversity of plant A increases with a
decreased relative humidityin Lamma Island, this is not supposed to occur in general according to
theory as higher levels of relative humidity are supposed to increase biodiversity, not decrease
biodiversity. Theory suggests that a higher level of humidity is supposed to decrease the effect of
solar radiation while a lower level of humidity is supposed to increase the effect of solar

The Legislative Process
The act of attempting to make a bill into a law is an arduous process with a large number of
written rules and procedures, the oldest of which date as far back as 1797, from Jefferson s
Manual (Paletz, Owen and Cook). The inspiration for the a bill can come from a variety of sources,
from the president of the United States to a personal experience of one of the members of the
House of Senate. There are any number of ways in which the aforementioned bill could fail before

Immune Mediate Thrombocytopenia Research Paper
Immune Mediate Thrombocytopenia and an Adjunctive or Alternative Immunosuppressant Option.
As you know, treating Immune mediate thrombocytopenia (IMTP) can have its challenges.
Every case is different and thus the approach should be individualized and tailored according to
the clinical presentation and severity of disease. Although IMTP is a serious disease, overall
survival rate is as high as 84% with relapse rate of 9%. Primary treatment of IMTP involves
administration of corticosteroids, but this may not apply to all cases of canine IMTP. For example,
is your patient on a medication or have a concurrent disease in which corticosteroids are
contraindicated? One of the alternative immunosuppressant medications used to treat canine IMTP
is a drug called mycophenolate mofetil. In this article I will discuss the use of this drug which will
hopefully give you one more option when tailoring a plan for your IMTP patient. Immune Mediated

similar action to azathioprine and can be used as an alternative since it seems to be less
hepatotoxic and has very little myelosuppression effects comparatively. Common side effects of
mycophenolate mofetil include gastrointestinal signs, predominately diarrhea but also vomiting

Boeing is the world s largest manufacturer of military and commercial aircraft, which was founded
in 1916 by William Boeing and Navy Engineer Conrad Westervelt in the name of Pacific Aero
Products Company in Seattle, which after active participation in World war I was renamed to Boeing
Airplane Company (Frederick, 2014).
Boeing produced several hundreds of B 17 Flying fortress during World War II which became the
U.S Bomber. In 1950 s Boeing faced a tough competition from its opponent McDonnell Douglas
which was good at manufacturing propeller aircraft. Due to the increased reputation of its
competitor, Boeing entered into the field of manufacturing commercial Jet aircrafts in a ... Show

Because of this tool, Boeing wanted to collaborate its partners planning schedules and progress in
work so as to ensure that no delay in manufacturing. But Exostar which opted by Boeing posed
problems during its runtime. Also as a part of cultural difference and due to lack of trust on other
suppliers some of the vendors involved in 787 design did not input accurate and timely
information. As a result of this inaccurate information Boeing had not discovered the problems at
the early stages and in a timely fashion (Zhao, 2012).
Boeing during 2003 lost its share value to Airbus which is a strong opponent to it (Boeing
Corporation, 2014). In order to regain its value in the market Boeing decided to design an
aircraft by enhancing its customers. So in the process of designing a new aircraft Boeing
decided to use composite carbon fiber instead of regular aluminum to an large extent which had
not been implemented in the past. Because of this composite fibers Boeing estimated to decrease
the cost of travel for its passengers and to increase fuel efficiency. But this step backfired in
getting air bubbles on the skin of fuselage and nose during assembling of aircraft which resulted in
delay of 787 Dreamliner (Pearlson Saunders, 2013)
Boeing in the process of reduction in time and cost it opted a supply chain process in which it
adopted from Toyota. Toyota manufactures its products with short development life cycle with

First Concentration Camp
The First Concentration Camps
The first concentration camps were very important to the entire holocaust. The Nazis were able
to imprison any people who were seen as non Aryan in camps where they would be forced to
work or they could even be killed upon arrival. Therefore, many people died in these camps
because of their race or religion. There were very brutal living conditions in most camps and it
made an enormous impact on the lives of all prisoners. The first concentration camps were
complex and heavily impacted many of the most popular camps of the holocaust. Overall, these
camps set the stage for what the holocaust would evolve by introducing what was going to happen
in the next 13 years.

Adolf Hitler was very persuasive and knew how to convince people that what he was doing was
right. Some people agreed with the Nazi rule and others did not. The Nazi regime did receive
authority to imprison people in concentration camps. The Criminal Police could issue a
preventative detention order after December 1937 for persons considered to be habitual and
professional criminals, or to be engaging in what the regime defined as asocial behavior (United
STates Holocaust Memorial Museum). Eventually, the rules got a little bit more strict than they
were in the beginning. For example, After 1938, authority to incarcerate persons in a
concentration camp formally rested exclusively with the German Security Police (made up of the
Gestapo and the Criminal Police) (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum). The power to
imprison people in concentration camps was a very controversial subject. Some people agreed
with the Nazis way of dealing with people who opposed their rule, and other people thought that it
was unnecessary. Many people questioned how the nazis were allowed to imprison people for

Matthew s Portrayal Of Pilate
When you think of the passion narrative, often times one of the first characters that comes to
mind is Pontius Pilate. Was he as man with good intentions, but corrupted by his position of
power, or was he a man who was malicious and sought to destroy Jesus. Callie Callon, a professor
in the school of theology at the University of Toronto, wrote an article titled Pilate the Villain: An
Alternative Reading of Matthew s Portrayal of Pilate . This article argued that Matthew s depiction
of Pilate places him in the position of a villain in the passion story. She uses Biblical and historical
information to support her claim. In this paper, I argue that Pontius Pilatewas a leader who had good

crowd than with saving Jesus. I do think that there is some truth to this statement, but I that
Pilate tries his best to maneuver around the crowd by offering Jesus up against a criminal and
by not taking part in the crucifixion. I think based on his place in the government he is stuck
having to appeal to the crowd s wishes because he is clearly outnumbered. I feel like it is a
difficult position to place all the blame on Pilate, but I do not think he is totally innocent in this
case. He could have used his political power and overruled the crowd, possibly, but I think he
was worried how that would affect his position. Yes this is selfish motivation, but we do live in a
selfish and fallen world and what would you do if you were in his position? I think that there
definitely is a counter argument to be made here, but I do not think I would totally agree with
Callie Callon by saying that Pontius Pilate is Villain, just based on the biblical evidence provided in

for those who sent a text while driving were 35 percent worse than when they drove without any
distractions at all. When driving while intoxicated, the reaction time was only 12 percent worse
than when the driver was sober and driving without any texting distractions ( Neiger ). The third
test showed; At 35 miles an hour, Mr. Alterman s average reaction time was .57 seconds, but

For example, Mr. Alterman traveled an average of four feet farther while driving drunk and an
average of 70 feet farther while texting( Chang ). As a research shows, texting and driving is much
worse than driving while drunk. When you drive drunk it makes your reaction time a little slower

Marriage Act ( Doma ) Essay
Two New York residents, both women, married lawfully in Canada. When one of the spouses,
Thea Spyer, died, she left her estate to the other spouse, Edith Windsor. Windsor was not able to
claim the estate tax exemption for surviving spouses because of the Defense of Marriage Act
(DOMA), a federal law that excluded same sex partners from the definition of spouse in its
statutory use. Both the district court and the court of appeals found that portion of the statute
unconstitutional. Granting certiorari, the Supreme Court affirmed. The State of New York

Essay on Castle of Otranto Preface Analysis
Horace Walpole (1717 1797) invented the Gothic novel in his attempt to blend wildness and
imagination of the old romance, in his own words an attempt to blend the two kinds of romance,
the ancient and the modern in one step altogether, the Castle of Otranto. A novel he claimed to
have written immediately after being inspired by a dream, I waked one morning...from a dream, of
which all I could recover was, that I had thought myself in an ancient castle...I saw a gigantic hand
in armour. In the evening I sat down and began to write (Letter, 9th march 1765). On the other hand
many would more quickly agree that the writing of this novelwas a mere `specialized development

Authenticity was primary because for many years fiction was distrusted. Why would one read a
book that was not true? True stories were more compelling and exciting because they were actual
events. Thus it s a common pose for author, including Walpole, to claim that the storey was true. To
do this Walpole fussed over the date of composition, it was printed ... in the year 1529 (15), the
probable author from the Original Italian of Onuphrio Muralto (title page), that the author s style is
purest Italian (15) and so forth to create the impression that readers were holding a genuine
translation of a genuine document.
The `translator then enforced authority by supplying his own ethos (character and hence
credibility) by way of revealing the characteristics of a careful scholar. He named the place of
publication, it was printed in Naples (15) and noted that the novel was printed in black letter (15)
as details that made him sound like a scholar. The uses of details were indicators of carefulness
and factuality. General and vague accounts were usually deemed unreliable, while specific ones
were judged to be more credible and accurate. Thus, the detailed preface provided both an air of
authenticity and a sense of authority for the supposed translator to the claim for the text.
The eighteenth century readers were told by the first edition that the book was printed in 1529,
while inner evidence in the story might put the writing between

The Battle Of Command During Battle
A major hurdle was thus the war was being fought in foreign terrains and as such, the soldiers had
to adapt and learn quickly how to navigate and combat in new grounds. Proper training is also
essential for defining roles and functions for each member of the troops to ensure efficiency and
effectiveness of the entire units. Confusion of formations and chain of command during battle can
be devastating to any unit. Uniformity is crucial in minimizing losses and the number of casualties
in battlefields. Similarly, it is neccesary to avoid conflict of interest among soldiers of the same
troopand with allies. This war being a collaborative battle among allies thus required the highest
level of collaboration and cooperation. Proper training was thus important to ensure that all troops
worked and operated as cohesive units.
Motivation is crucial in the success of any operation whether economical or military. Workers and
in this case soldiers are thus required to be fully committed to the cause and motivated to work for
certain incentives for their service. Remunerations aren t enough to fully motivate a soldier into
engaging in life threatening battles. The political class was thus similarly influential ion offering
the servicemen proper incentives to ensure that they were motivated to perform the duties assigned
to them despite the obvious risks and hardships that they would incur. American soldiers were
largely motivated to participate in the war because of the promises that

The modern day controversies that have challenged the integrity of God s Word have necessitated
the question of whether fundamentalism was ever sanctioned and orchestrated by God. The Holy
Bible and historical reflection, and even, present day scientific data reveal that the origin of
fundamentalism and its ongoing transformation is in fact God s healthy apparatus to preserve the
integrity of the factual claims of Scripture. Thus, the rise of fundamentalism is God s manifestation
to combat such spiritual apparitions as higher criticism and the contamination of the world s social
gospel.
The Rise of Fundamentalism Church history reveals that a number of serious biblical doctrinal
controversies occurred during the late 1800s and early 1900s that gave occasion for the formulation

Differences And Similarities Between Lady Macbeth And The...
Both Robert Browning and William Shakespeare present their characters as strong, yet flawed
individuals. This essay will explore the ways in which Shakespeare presents Lady Macbeth of
Macbeth and Browning presents the Narrator of the poem The Laboratory in these ways by
comparing both texts and using quotes to demonstrate this as both do this by using a variety of
different language techniques and devices. This essay will compare how audiences would have
reacted during the Victorian and Elizabethan era, compared to a 21st century audience today.
William Shakespeare portrays Lady Macbeth as a confident individual all throughout the play, this
is evident when Shakespeare uses personification to describe Lady Macbeth s tongue when she says

Shakespeare emphasises this when Lady Macbeth says screw your courage to the sticking place
and we ll not fail when talking to Macbeth. Browning also does this when the narrator says grind
away, moisten and mash up thy paste, pound at thy powder, I am not in haste! to the scientist.
Both characters use imperative verbs and quite violent words such as grind , mash and screw ,
which make the speaker sound quite aggressive and demanding. The women are shown to be
ordering the men around and telling them what to do in an impolite manner, this would be seen
as unorthodox especially during the 16th century as women were seen as inferior to men,
whereas compared to the 21st century both women would be seen as quite strong in contrast.
Both characters have different aims, Lady Macbeth is shown to be telling Macbeth to become
more brave to kill the King and commit regicide whereas the narrator is demanding the person
making the poison in the apothecary to take their time making the perfect poison in order for her
to kill her ex lovers new love

Sodium
The periodic table contains one hundred and 118 elements. These elements range from some of the
most known, such as oxygen, to some of the most unknown, protactinium. Out of these 118 element
I think the most important one is sodium(Na). Sodium is is a soft metal at room temperature and is
in the first group, which are the Alkali Metals (1). It s atomic numberis eleven and it is in the third
period on the periodic table (1). Sodium is used in many different compounds such as sodium
chloride, sodium carbonate, and sodium hydroxide. Sodium does a great deal of things like salt our

the most important element. Sodium was founded by Sir Humphrey... Show more content on

We come in contact with it at some point everyday. Whether it be drinking it, washing our hands
, or taking a shower. What would happen if our water was contaminated? If water has a lower
pH level than about 7 it is considered acidic (6). A negative aspect of acidic water is that it can
extract metal or lead from plumbing, which will then get into the water (6). If people drink water
containing metal or lead it can create serious health problems; such as nervous system damage,
learning disabilities, and stunting of kids growth (8). Water contaminated with metals can also eat
through pipes and tear up plumbing (6). Sodium carbonate (soda ash) is an easy treatment for this
problem. Its chemical formula is CNa2O3 (9). Adding sodium carbonate to acidic water raises the
pH levels (6). This treatment of water contamination does not cause hardness problems in the water
unlike some other methods used (6). Once again the element sodium shows its power by combining
with another compound to help purify a contaminated everyday object. Another use of sodium is
for dental care. The compound mainly used is sodium fluoride (FNa) (10). It helps reduce cavities
by making teeth more resistant to tooth decay and bacteria (11). The fluoride attaches to the enamel
of the tooth which in turn helps prevent the deterioration of the enamel

replacement window dealers are offering before they invest in new windows for their home.
Here are a few things to look for as you consider companies and warranty packages. All Promises,
No Solutions Sadly, some replacement window companies have warranty plans that seem to be
intentionally worded to create ambivalence. Let s face it, even though there are exceptionally
manufactured replacement windows and patio doors that truly will last for decades, there are
cheap imitations that come with a very limited coverage term and vague, hard to interpret rules if
you ever need support or assistance with an issue. And, even with a superb warranty, defects

an African American male growing up in the United States in the mid 1900 s. At this time in
America prejudice and segregation were widespread and much a part of everyday life. Malcolm
takes the reader through his experiences with American society, which rejects him. This rejection,
along with the inferiority cast upon all Black Americans, forces these males to search for

time in American history. With Malcolm s imprisonment ended the acceptance of the ghetto

his father did, Malcolm turned to religion. The religion he turned to, The Nation of Islam or
more commonly known as the Black Muslims, were a group of African Americans who believed,
among other things, that whites were the roots of evil. Malcolm became immersed in his
religion. It seeped into every part of his life. For the next years I was the nearest thing to a hermit

Predicting Athletic Performance Using The Five Factor...
The article, Predicting athletic performance using the five factor model of personality by Ralph L.
Piedmont, David C. Hill, Susana Blanco seeks to address how the five factor model of personality
when utilized, is a suitable predictor of athletic performance and how it is can assist in gaining an
insight and understanding of the competitive nature within athletes, to show if there was a
correlation between personality traits within different competitive sport. There have been many
other studies used to evaluate personality within sport such as Cooper s study (1969) that concluded
that those that are more athletic in a competition sense are inclined to be socially confidence,
aggressive and have an increased motivation to achieve. (Piedmont, R., Hill, D., Blanco, S. 769 777,

Battle Of Little Bighorn Research Paper
The Battle of Little Bighorn, also known as Custer s Last Stand, is one of the worst military
failures of the United States. Early Americans tried to force Indians into reservations in order to
steal their land. They then proceeded to invade the areas set off for Indians in a search of gold.
The greed of Americans forced the Natives into a defensive position; they could no longer trust the
intruders. They fled from the reservations and were soon ordered back. They did not heed the call,
so the Americans attacked. The attacking battalion was easily defeated by the Natives, and no
soldier remained alive. Unfortunately, when reinforcements arrived they forced the Indians to
surrender. Even though the Natives were eventually subdued, the intruders suffered a major loss.
Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse, leaders of the Sioux on the Great Plains, strongly resisted the mid
19th century efforts of the U.S. government to confine their people to reservations ( Battle of the

Endocrine Gland Research Paper
There are many factors that work harmoniously to keep the body working correctly, various
endocrine glands (glands that secrete things inside the body) work in time with each other, the
brain, and organs, to maintain balance in the body. These endocrine glands secrete a large variety
of hormones that travel throughout the body to distribute their specific chemicals for the necessary
reactions. One endocrine glandthat is incredibly important in the body is the adrenal gland, as it is
essentially responsible for the fight or flight response by secreting Epinephrine, Norepinephrine, and
maintaining bodily homeostasis by secreting Aldosterone and Cortisol, although Cortisol also

As it s responsible for balancing the water balance, and therefore the secretion and re absorption
of Sodium and Potassium in the renal tubules, Aldosterone binds onto mineralcorticoids receptors
and this complex moves to the nucleus, which then results in specific mRNA being synthesized
and increases or inhibits specific proteins necessary to balance the water levels in the body (Feher
2012). Cortisol is also quite specific in it s actions , for example, it works to increase blood
glucose, and therefore strongly targets the liver, muscles, and fat, to metabolize necessary glucose
storage s (Nussey Whitehead 2001). Cortisol travels through the bloodstream while binded to
Cortisol Binding Protein and diffuse across the outer membrane of the target cells as it s lipid
soluble (Jameson Groot 2015), and binds to specific receptors, otherwise known as glucocorticoid
receptors, in the cytoplasm which are already associated with heat shock proteins; as the cortisol
attaches to the receptor, the heat shock protein is released (Nussey Whitehead 2001). This receptor
complex is then transported into the nucleus using energy, and cortisol then attaches to
Glucocorticoid Response Elements in the DNA helix, which initiates RNA synthesis for the
specific proteins needed to carry out each specific response (Nussey Whitehead 2001). Due to the

Theme Of Human Nature In King Lear
Human nature is a concept that has interested scholars throughout history and brought debate over
what human nature truly is. Shakespeare explores the issue of human nature in his tragedy King
Lear by attempting to portray human nature as entirely good or evil. He seems to suggest, however,
that it is not impossible for one to move from one end of the spectrum of human nature to the other,
as multiple characters go through somewhat of a metamorphosis where their nature is changed.
Shakespeare present an account of human nature in King Learas the foundation of the tragedy King
Lear. In this play, there is a noticeable difference between the natural way in which humans want
to act against what is considered natural in society. Elements of society cause the characters to be
able to justify unnatural actions. Shakespeare thoroughly laces this play with the concept of
humans are neither good nor evil by nature. It is clear from the beginning of King Lear that
Cordelia has an entirely good nature, she remains constant throughout the play, never wavering
in her morals. The play begins with Lear deciding that he will have his daughters compete for
their divisions of his kingdoms based on which of them can impress him the most with their
proclamations of love. Cordelia, however, cannot express her love for her father in words, and
refuses to deceive him by doing otherwise, stating that she is sure [her] love s more richer than
[her] tongue (278 80). She realizes that by holding her tongue she is infuriating her father, but
her nature cannot allow her to do otherwise. When King Lear asks her what she has to say, she
states Nothing, my lord. This shows Cordelia s inherent good nature by doing what is right in a
tough situation. Lear s lack of understanding of the natural bond between parents and their
children leads him to his eventual demise. He is easily mislead by the other sisters, Goneril and
Regan s fake natural behavior when they give their long speeches in order to try and flatter him.
Eventually the daughters or as Lear calls them Pelican daughters (75) throw him out of his house
as soon as they have obtained power. However, they are still unsure whether he will try and take it
back. They come to

Causal-Relational Studies
An important difference between causal comparative and correlational research is that causal
comparative studies involve two or more groups and one independent variable, while correlational
studies involve two or more variables and one group. (Gay Airasian, 2000, 364).
Causal comparative educational research identifies a relationship between an independent variable
and a dependent variable. This relationship suggests that the researcher must prove more. When the
research has true control over the independent variable the research will be considered as true
research.
Causal comparative research involves comparing (thus the comparative aspect) two groups in
order to explain existing differences between them on some variable or variables of interest. The
only difference between causal comparative and experimental research is that the groups being
compared in causal comparative research have already been formed, and any treatment (if there
was a treatment) has already been applied. My research is causal comparative because it involves

Technology Makes Us Lonely
Does Technology Make us Feel Lonely?
Technology is there wherever you go in the world, whether it d be the computer in your living
room or the cell phone in your pocket. In fact, as of November 6 2016, it was estimated that 95%
of all Americans have some kind of cellphone and 77% have a smartphone (pewinternet.org). But
the real question is: does all this technology lead us to stray away from our friends and make us
feel more lonely? Some might be led to believe so, with how many people are so dependant on
technology, but the answer is no. In fact, technology actually helps us not feel lonely rather than
doing so. Social media, the internet, and how we connect with each other is what makes technology
helps us stay more connected with people rather than making us feel lonely.
Social media is the biggest it s been ever since it was invented, and it isn t slowing down. Since
January 2010, the number of U.S adults using social media rose from 43% to 69% in November
2016 (pewinternet.org). And as social media is accessed through technology, one might strongly
agree with how technology doesn t make us lonely. Social media, like Instagram, Facebook, and
even texting helps us connect with others. They let people contact with one another, whether its
through pictures or words. With all this information, it is hard for someone to argue with how
social media might make someone lonely, as it simply does the opposite. In fact, 57% of teens

Theseus, the newly found prince of Athens, embarks on several hero journeys including on against

An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge Analysis
I m really enjoying our assigned readings so far in class. My favorite so far has been An
Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge by Bierce. I was not expecting the ending to this short story at
all, it caught me off guard. I honestly did believe that Peyton Farquhar, the main character of the
story, managed to escaped his hanging by swimming away from the scene. What I did find sort
of hard to believe was how much Peyton was able to imagine right before his death. What I mean
by this is how he was able to imagine a whole escape plan that led him running all the way home
to his wife, all while he was in the process of getting hanged. The whole story was about five
pages long but it had a great amount of detail describing the events. I especially enjoyed this
particular reading because I was able to picture every single moment as I kept reading along. I like
stories where I know exactly what is going on and I m able to picture everything in my head and

because they really didn t deserve to work that hard for just a necklace. Especially the husband,
all he really wanted to do was buy a gun so that he can go hunting in the summer. I wouldn t
necessarily say that Mathilde deserves those hard working 10 years she lost to repay the lost
necklace mainly because it has always been in Mathilde s nature to want the best and dreams of
other luxuries. I do, however, blame her for the misfortune she brought upon her and her husband
when she lost the fake necklace. If she wasn t so demanding of things and would have settled with
simply the dress her husband bought for her in exchange of his gun dream, then for sure their lives
would probably have been a whole lot

What Is D-Day In Canada
Juno was the landing area for the 3rd Canadian Division. The division was to assault the coast
through a line of small resort towns from Graye Sur Mer to St Aubin (Neillands Norman, 232).
There were different names for different sectors of the invasion. There was Mike Red and Mike
Green to the west side, and Nan Red , Nan Green , and Nan White to the east (Neillands Norman,
233). Landing on the beach there was the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, the Regina Rifle Regiment, the
Canadian Scottish Regiment, the Queen s Own Rifles of Canada, the French Canadian Regiment
de la Chaudiere and the North Shore (Chartwell, 52). Now D Day, or some call it Juno Beach, is a
defining moment and played a big role for Canadians in the development of their future in military
affairs. What makes it a defining moment is that Canada succeeded in their objectives, Canada
supported the mother country and alliesin this battle, and Canada fought the most in D Day. But for
Canada that was no problem.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Canadian landings on the beach were a great success and progressed farther inland than any unit
of their allies. The Americans and the British did manage to get ashore too, but with a varying
degree of difficulty (Douglas, 75). Overall, the Canadian invasion was going so well that by
1030 hours (10:30 am) Juno Beach Commander, Major General R.F. Keller, felt confident enough
to send a message to General Crerar (Douglas, 65). A troop of 1st Hussars tanks also helped
Canada succeed in their objectives by advancing 15km from the beach. They gained the reputation
of being the only Allied unit to capture their full planned final objective on D Day (Douglas,

The New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation Essay
The New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation established the Brookhaven landfill in
March 1974. Since then, residents have revealed many health concerns and other relative issues
against the placement of the landfill. The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry
(ATSDR) has been addressed in regards to a necessary public health consultation to draw attention
to these concerns. After further cooperative agreements amongst the New York State Department of
Health (NYS DOH) and ATSDR, a public health consultation was reached. Many solutions have
been uncovered; however, the outcome has yet to be determined as it is evident that a reasonable
response must be initiated through the cooperation of the government and community. The
Brookhaven landfillhas created a number of problems for the citizens living near the establishment.
Not only is it an unsightly addition to the community, but the putrid stench proposes a grave
problem concerning the people s health and real estate success rate. Numerous complaints have
been filed throughout the Bellport school districts regarding the foul and distracting odor that
engulfs the hallways. Classes have been cancelled on multiple occasions because of these
problems (1). Similar to the effects shown on Staten Island, Brookhaven town dump has caused a
number of problems in businesses. Staten Island s Fresh Kills Park was once a massive solid waste
dump. Since its transformation, the park has earned the city millions of

Portia And Calpurnia In Julius Caesar
Portia and Calpurnia in the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare were the wives of Brutus
and Caesar. They had many more privileges at that time than most women because they were the
wives of great noble Romans, and of course Calpurnia was the wife of the leader Julius Caesar.
Since Brutus wife, Portia, was the daughter of the successful leader Cato, she was a very powerful
Roman. But, they still were treated far from equals of their superior, their husbands. As wives of
these specific Romans, they were treated with much higher respect than most women were at that
time. Portia as an individual was described as pure in nature, youthful, and very beautiful. I believe
that she took being a Roman womanto be quite difficult, and felt very underappreciated because
of it. She wanted to show Brutus that she was worthy of his trust and to prove her worth to him,
she cut open her thigh. She expresses her feelings of being his wife and a Roman women at that
time in part of her monologue; Therefore fear not, but tell me all you are concealing from me,
for neither fire, nor lashes, nor goads will force me to divulge a word; I was not born to that
extent a woman. Hence, if you still distrust me, it is better for me to die than to live; otherwise
let no one think me longer the daughter of Cato or your wife. All in all, she felt that she was less
of a person, although being the daughter of Cato and the wife of Brutus, she still did not feel as
though she would ever be able to

Environmental Effects Of Plastic Pollution
Plastic pollution is all over this world. People purchase plastic almost everyday, even if someone
does not realize they are purchasing this synthetic product, most of the time the item s packaging is
made of plastic. Even cleaning products and clothes contain plastic. When plastic was man made
the only thought was the benefits it can create, the deficits were not thought of. Humans and
animals are being physically harmed by hazardous chemicals inside plasticand sadly, fifty percent
of plastic is hazardous. The environment as well is being affected with pollution because of the
amount of resources that are taken and used. Many authors have researched the effects of the
plastic we use daily. ZHigui He s article Pollution characteristics and health risk assessment of
volatile organic compounds emitted from different plastic solid waste recyclingworkshops
researches the various volatile compounds found in different recycling shops that lead to health
risks. Charles Talsness article is explaining the health risks of the components found in plastic on
humans and animals. Along with the article written by Chelsea Rochman, assistant professor, that
classifies plastic waste as hazardous as well and W.C. Li s article focuses on the effects of the
plastic waste in the marine environment. All the while, Robert LeBlanc has found many statistics
on all negative aspects inside his article Plastic RecyclingFacts and Figures . All of these articles

  • 2. Harlem Renaissance Essay HARLEM RENAISSANCE Throughout the history of African Americans, there have been important historical figures as well as times. Revered and inspirational leaders and eras like, Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement, Nat Turner and the slave revolt, or Huey Newton and the Black Panther Party. One such period that will always remain a significant part of black art and culture is the Harlem Renaissance. It changed the meaning of art and poetry, as it was known then. Furthermore, the Harlem Renaissance forever left a mark on the evolution of the black culture. The Harlem Renaissance found its birth in the early 1920 s, in Harlem, New York. The period has been thought of as one of African Americans greatest times in writing.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Weldon s collection also included a young talented poet named Langston Hughes. Hughes had a love for music, mainly the blues, which became a bridge between African AmericanLiterature and Folk music. Zora Neale Hurston, an anthropologist originally born in Florida, wrote the literary magazine Fire! Although it lasted only one issue because of financial difficulties, Hughes, publisher Wallace Thurman, and a number of other influential black artists had shared in making one of most recognized Harlem Renaissance materials. Hurston later went on to publish Their Eyes were Watching God, in 1937, still keeping with the themes of strong black characters. Music was another art form found in the Harlem Renaissance. It became the background, inspiration, and the structure for the Harlem Renaissance literature. A style of music known as jazz represented the new, urban, unpredictable lifestyle. One of the greatest jazz singers of this time was Bessie Smith. She was a southerner and her recordings were rare for black performers during her time. Duke Ellington, whose legendary band played at the Cotton Club, personifies jazz. Charlie Parker and Billie Holiday would also record jazz music form the 1930 s until the 1950 s. Langston Hughes was one of the few poets that would combine both blues and jazz to create an original art form. Claude McKay used the jazz atmosphere in his novel Home to Harlem. • 3. The Longest Ride The Longest Ride The warm wind hits my face and time seems to stop. The sound of my horses hooves thumping against the ground is the only thing I hear. Flying wildly in the wind, her mane shimmers in the sunlight. The sound of laughter breaks the silence. I turn to see a woman riding a pure white horse next to me. Her long brown hair and her soft blue eyes send a shock of remembrance, but I don t know who she is. I think hard, trying to search my memories of her. A gold heart shines on her boots. From the dates of the artifacts and the dates of the glyph, the site was occupied in the Late Woodland period. The cave was discover in 2007 when a group of cave explorer saw fine engravings on the wall. This site was the first cave art site that was found in Florida and it is the second rock art site that was found in the states. Rock art is very rare in Florida, but now with the site found there is a wider perspective on the importance of rock art. The site did not only include the petroglyph drawing of the past, but it included some artifacts that was use to help date the time that the cave was occupied.... If the edges of the engraving is nice and rounded we can safely say that the engraving have been there for a while. The main point of this article is to talk about the findings of the 59th Unnamed Cave in Florida. This cave is interesting because there are very few sites in Florida. This was only one out of the two sites that had rock art in them that is in the state of Florida. I really like this article because instead of just talking about what they see in the petroglyph, the authors actually highlighted the engravings so that it is easier for the readers to see what they are talking about. The other articles I have read only talked about the engraving but they did not really highlighted the engraving which makes it very hard for the reader to see what they were talking about. Another good point of this article is that they showed a comparison between the older cave engraving versus the new engraving. By adding this information it help the reader understand the difference between the two time frame that the engraving was marked. One of the things that I wished this article would have is the radio carbon dating section. The other articles I read about all have some type of radio carbon dating to try to date when the site were occupied. This article only talked about the ceramic sherds that they ... With 1 being the highest possible value, it indicates very high diversity while 0; the lowest possible value, indicates no/very low diversity. This suggests that 0.701 is a high reading, indicating high diversity of plantspecies. The analysis of the first hypothesis There is a direct correlation between the diversity of plant species and the relative humidityat each site , will help explain why site 3 had the highest diversity index reading when compared to the other sites. To answer this hypothesis, data will be used from graphs in figure 2, 3 and 4. It can be suggested from figure 2, 3 and 4 that the abiotic conditions of site 3 have proven to increase the diversity of plants when compared to other sites. For plant A, according to figure 2, the humidity (rH) decreases from 64% in site 2 to 50.1% at site 3 while the total number of plant A increases from 9 in site 2 to 80 in site 3. Even though the diversity of plant A increases with a decreased relative humidityin Lamma Island, this is not supposed to occur in general according to theory as higher levels of relative humidity are supposed to increase biodiversity, not decrease biodiversity. Sodium does a great deal of things like salt our food, maintain our health, and stabilize water. These are just a few of the examples why sodium is the most important element. Sodium was founded by Sir Humphrey... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We come in contact with it at some point everyday. Whether it be drinking it, washing our hands , or taking a shower. What would happen if our water was contaminated? If water has a lower pH level than about 7 it is considered acidic (6). A negative aspect of acidic water is that it can extract metal or lead from plumbing, which will then get into the water (6). If people drink water containing metal or lead it can create serious health problems; such as nervous system damage, learning disabilities, and stunting of kids growth (8). Water contaminated with metals can also eat through pipes and tear up plumbing (6). Sodium carbonate (soda ash) is an easy treatment for this problem. Its chemical formula is CNa2O3 (9). Adding sodium carbonate to acidic water raises the pH levels (6). This treatment of water contamination does not cause hardness problems in the water unlike some other methods used (6). Once again the element sodium shows its power by combining with another compound to help purify a contaminated everyday object. Another use of sodium is for dental care. The compound mainly used is sodium fluoride (FNa) (10). It helps reduce cavities by making teeth more resistant to tooth decay and bacteria (11). Early Americans tried to force Indians into reservations in order to steal their land. They then proceeded to invade the areas set off for Indians in a search of gold. The greed of Americans forced the Natives into a defensive position; they could no longer trust the intruders. They fled from the reservations and were soon ordered back. Unfortunately, when reinforcements arrived they forced the Indians to surrender. Even though the Natives were eventually subdued, the intruders suffered a major loss. Endocrine Gland Research Paper There are many factors that work harmoniously to keep the body working correctly, various endocrine glands (glands that secrete things inside the body) work in time with each other, the brain, and organs, to maintain balance in the body. These endocrine glands secrete a large variety of hormones that travel throughout the body to distribute their specific chemicals for the necessary reactions. One endocrine glandthat is incredibly important in the body is the adrenal gland, as it is essentially responsible for the fight or flight response by secreting Epinephrine, Norepinephrine, and maintaining bodily homeostasis by secreting Aldosterone and Cortisol, although Cortisol also contributes to the stress response. As it s responsible for balancing the water balance, and therefore the secretion and re absorption of Sodium and Potassium in the renal tubules, Aldosterone binds onto mineralcorticoids receptors and this complex moves to the nucleus, which then results in specific mRNA being synthesized and increases or inhibits specific proteins necessary to balance the water levels in the body (Feher 2012). Cortisol is also quite specific in it s actions , for example, it works to increase blood glucose, and therefore strongly targets the liver, muscles, and fat, to metabolize necessary glucose storage s (Nussey Whitehead 2001). Cortisol travels through the bloodstream while binded to Cortisol Binding Protein and diffuse across the outer membrane of the target cells as it s lipid soluble (Jameson Groot 2015), and binds to specific receptors, otherwise known as glucocorticoid receptors, in the cytoplasm which are already associated with heat shock proteins; as the cortisol attaches to the receptor, the heat shock protein is released (Nussey Whitehead 2001). • 31. Theme Of Human Nature In King Lear Human nature is a concept that has interested scholars throughout history and brought debate over what human nature truly is. Shakespeare explores the issue of human nature in his tragedy King Lear by attempting to portray human nature as entirely good or evil. He seems to suggest, however, that it is not impossible for one to move from one end of the spectrum of human nature to the other, as multiple characters go through somewhat of a metamorphosis where their nature is changed. Shakespeare present an account of human nature in King Learas the foundation of the tragedy King Lear. In this play, there is a noticeable difference between the natural way in which humans want to act against what is considered natural in society. Elements of society cause the characters to be able to justify unnatural actions. Shakespeare thoroughly laces this play with the concept of humans are neither good nor evil by nature. It is clear from the beginning of King Lear that Cordelia has an entirely good nature, she remains constant throughout the play, never wavering in her morals. The play begins with Lear deciding that he will have his daughters compete for their divisions of his kingdoms based on which of them can impress him the most with their proclamations of love. Cordelia, however, cannot express her love for her father in words, and refuses to deceive him by doing otherwise, stating that she is sure [her] love s more richer than [her] tongue (278 80). She realizes that by holding her tongue she is infuriating her father, but her nature cannot allow her to do otherwise. When King Lear asks her what she has to say, she states Nothing, my lord. This shows Cordelia s inherent good nature by doing what is right in a tough situation. Lear s lack of understanding of the natural bond between parents and their children leads him to his eventual demise. He is easily mislead by the other sisters, Goneril and Regan s fake natural behavior when they give their long speeches in order to try and flatter him. Eventually the daughters or as Lear calls them Pelican daughters (75) throw him out of his house as soon as they have obtained power. Causal-Relational Studies An important difference between causal comparative and correlational research is that causal comparative studies involve two or more groups and one independent variable, while correlational studies involve two or more variables and one group. (Gay Airasian, 2000, 364). Causal comparative educational research identifies a relationship between an independent variable and a dependent variable. This relationship suggests that the researcher must prove more. When the research has true control over the independent variable the research will be considered as true research. Causal comparative research involves comparing (thus the comparative aspect) two groups in order to explain existing differences between them on some variable or variables of interest. But the real question is: does all this technology lead us to stray away from our friends and make us feel more lonely? Some might be led to believe so, with how many people are so dependant on technology, but the answer is no. In fact, technology actually helps us not feel lonely rather than doing so. Social media, the internet, and how we connect with each other is what makes technology helps us stay more connected with people rather than making us feel lonely. Since Brutus wife, Portia, was the daughter of the successful leader Cato, she was a very powerful Roman. But, they still were treated far from equals of their superior, their husbands. As wives of these specific Romans, they were treated with much higher respect than most women were at that time. Portia as an individual was described as pure in nature, youthful, and very beautiful.
