CHRYSLER CORPORATION: NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN DAIMLER AND CHRYSLER
In January 1998, Jürgen Schrempp, CEO of Daimler Benz A.G., approached Chrysler Corporation s
chair and chief executive officer (CEO), Robert Eaton, about a possible merger, acquisition, or deep
strategic alliance between their two firms. As Schrempp argued: The two companies are a perfect fit of
two leaders in their respective markets. Both companies have dedicated and skilled work forces and
successful products, but in different markets and different parts of the world. By combining and
utilizing each other s strengths, we will have a preeminent strategic position in the global marketplace
for the benefit of our customers. We will be able to exploit new ... Show more content on

Under the leadership of Lee Iacocca and with the support of federal loan guarantees, Chrysler
managed to turn itself around one more time, returning to profitability in 1982. While the late 1980s
proved tough for the industry as a whole, the introduction and meteoric rise of the family minivan (a
market controlled 47% by Chrysler as of 1996), coupled with the 1987 acquisition and subsequent
exploitation of the Jeep brand name, left Chrysler the envy of the U.S. auto market by the mid 1990s.
As Fortune magazine stated in late 1996, If a vehicle is in demand and generates high profit margins,
you can bet Chrysler s making it. 4 While Chrysler s success and relatively conservative management
style attracted praise from industry observers, it also attracted the attention of Las Vegas billionaire
Kirk Kerkorian, who with the help of retired Lee Iacocca, mounted a hostile bid for Chrysler in 1995.
The (U.S. dollar) $55 per share ($27.50 today following a 2 for 1 stock split in 1996) not only failed to
win the approval of Chrysler s board, but also turned out to be largely unfinanced, leaving Chrysler to
continue under its current management. Chrysler products Chrysler focused heavily on trucks in its
product offering. In 1997, trucks, including minivans, accounted for about two thirds of Chrysler s
vehicle sales in the United States and cars accounted for about one third. Chrysler s trucks

Raymond Carver Cathedral Analysis
Blind to the Blind
To be imaginative is to be a child. As a person ages, he is expected to mature into adulthood and to
live in the real world. He is expected to abandon his childhood dreams and cultivate practicality and
factuality. However, imaginations are not limited to unicorns and dragons; it is a skill a person must
nurture to realize his dreams and desires. To be imaginative is to be a visionary. Without a vision, a
person lacks the sight for compassion, curiosity, and self consciousness. In this sense, imagination is
not only to think outside the box, but also to search deeper inside. In the short story, Cathedral by
Raymond Carver, Carver develops the idea that a lack of imagination limits a person to the physical
and visible world which leads to the blindness to the abstract world and rejection of the uncertain
future. It is when a person opens his eyes to the unseen that he can create emotional connection with
others and discover the profound truth inside himself.
The narrator s lack of imagination leads him to reject what is beyond his visual perception. The
narrator looks at his surroundings plainly as they are and therefore fails to see the deeper meanings
behind it. Throughout the story, the narrator is watching television, which symbolizes his narrow
perspective and his failure to observe the world on his own. His idea of blindness came from the
movies (Carver 315) and this preconceived notion results in his unenthusiastic attitude towards Robert

Similarities Between Equations And Inequalities
In Algebra, we have been learning about Equations and Inequalities, and how you can solve them in
the same ways. Though, They re both very similar and both very different in their own ways, which
makes it difficult to find the differences.
But, There are also many similarities between them. The way that the two are similar is that you can
solve both problems the same way, for example:
If you had 2x + 2 = 10
You d solve it by subtracting 2 with 10, which would result in an 8.
2x + 2 = 10
2x = 8
After this, you d divide 2 with 2, and 2 with 8, which would give you a 4.
So the answer would be X = 4. So 4 would be the only answer.
2x + 2 = 10
2x = 8
X = 4
If you did this with an IneQuality, it would turn out the same, except if you divide ... Show more

Since its all numbers less than 4, we d have an open circle since it isn t equal to 4. And there s an
arrow pointing towards the left since its all numbers less than 4.
But, if it was all numbers greater than 4, it would be like this:
3 4 5
Despite the two having a couple differences and a couple similarities, both can be used in the world
around us, since, depending on the symbol you use, you d still get the same answer nonetheless.
However, there still are more differences between the two.
Even if you do the Math equation the same, the symbols can cause the answer to shift, and make it so
the two aren t the same.
For example:
If you used 12x + 6 = 6 (2x+1 )
You d start by multiplying the 6 by 2, since the 6 is next to a parenthesis symbol, which would give
you 12, and you d multiply the 6 with 1, which would give you 6 in return.
12x + 6 = 6 (2x+1)
12x + 6 = 12x+6
tHEN, YOU D SUBTRACT 12 BY ITSELF, AND WITH THE OTHER 12, WHICH WOULD
MAKE THE ANSWER 6 = 6, MAKING IT AN INFINITE SOLUTION.
12x + 6 = 6 (2x+1)
12x + 6 = 12x+6
6 = 6
bUT, IF YOU DID THIS WITH AN INEQUALITY, YOU D GET A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT

Systems Development Life Cycle and Project
Component of Formal SDLC Process There are many ways to develop an Information system, which
is very complex. The systems development life cycle (SDLC) provides an overall efficient framework
for managing the process of system development. Various organizations use information systems to
support all kind of processes that a business needs to carry out its functions. There are different kind
of information system and each has its own life, and system developer describe this idea as life cycle
of system. During the life of an information system, it is first conceived as an idea; then it is designed,

The Relatable Of The Camel And His Friends
The most relatable fable that i read in this section was The Camel and His Friends . I found that this
story is relateable today especially. In today s society we get caught up in the trends and evrything that
is going on around us far too often. We live in a world where manipulation is easier than ever and
people can turn on you at the drop of a hat. It can seem that people care about you and are there for
you no matter what the circumstance. The lion who said he would never eat anyone under his
protection, ate the camel when he himself was in danger. The way the world is going today we need to
be cautious of the situations we put ourselves. It is not until sometimes things get tough that you find

Blockbuster Strategic Management
The Failure of Strategic Management in Preventing the Closure of Blockbuster Stores
Abstract o Strategic management ensures an organization s survival by eliminating competition and
maximizing organizational security and wealth. Not only did Blockbuster fail to implement effective
strategic management techniques, but it also caved under the use of these same tactics by Redbox to
eliminate the organization. This paper will examine Blockbuster s initial hierarchical structure and
how this organizational structure eventually aided the deterioration of Blockbuster s sales. It will also
address the gradual loss of Blockbuster s connection with their customers and methods by which it
could have been avoided. Finally, this paper will consider the ... Show more content on

 Blockbuster s plan was to aggressively expand by opening new stores worldwide every day (Bhide,
1996). However, real strategic change requires not merely rearranging the established categories, but
inventing new ones (Mintzberg, 1994).
 Blockbuster failed to identify and embrace the advances in technology that resulted in a new, cost
effective method of delivering movies.
 Blockbuster failed to build on Redbox s innovation and recapture the DVD delivery market.
Solutions o Blockbuster should have listened to the requests of their consumers to alter their rental
policies, thus avoiding the need for customers to defect to Redbox to receive their desired level of
convenience. o Additionally, Blockbuster would have been able to maintain the market had they
changed their methods of delivery to match the shift to digital streaming and shorter rental periods. o
Finally, had Blockbuster moved sooner to operate through kiosks as well as physical stores, they
would have been able to develop more kiosks in convenient locations and increase revenues.

Eliot Deutsch s The Concept Of The Body
The body, while seemingly clearly definable and universally understood, is a concept that humans
have struggled to define and understand for much of history. Social conceptions of the mind or spirit
shaped philosophers understandings of the relationship between the mind and body, as well as
attitudes toward the body. In his essay The Concept of the Body, Eliot Deutsch presents readers with
four popular modes of conceiving of the body. These models, popularized at different points
throughout history, are the prison, the temple, the machine, and the instrument. Through reading Plato
s dialogue Phaedo, one gains perspective on Socrates conception of the body as primarily a prison.
The prison body metaphor, as explained by Deutsch, is premised on the fundamental belief in a duality
of mind and body, meaning that the mind and body are separate entities with different wants, needs,
and characteristics. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When one goes to prison, one is stripped of one s freedom, possessions, and overall sense of identity.
Similarly, Socrates views the body as taking something away from the soul. However, in this case it is
not freedom nor identity, but wisdom. The belief that the body takes something from an individual is
present in Socrates epistemological beliefs. To Socrates, learning is recollection. To prove this,
Socrates introduces the Theory of Opposites, which states that all things in the world come out of their
opposites: largeness out of smallness, loudness out of quietness, life out of death. He reasons that this
proves that the soul is immortal and after death enters a new body. This idea alone lends itself to the
body as a prison metaphor as a soul does not belong to any body, but rather put inside of a body with a
degree of randomness. However, the prison body metaphor is more strongly reinforced by Socrates
belief that the soul is exposed to the Forms in the period between death and

Positive Behavior Changes
How we teach is just as important as what we teach. This is especially true when training staff to
perform on the job. Due to the important role of our direct care staff it is crucial to implement training
procedures that are scientific and evidence based. Based on the following literature review, Positive
Behavior Changes (PBC) has created a comprehensive training package for direct care staff. By
utilizing Personalized Systems of Instruction (PSI), video training, in situ training and role play
methods, staff will learn how to implement Functional Communication Training and Errorless

As the name suggests, this type of training should take place in situ or in an environment where the
staff can get exposure to potential challenging behaviors or crises through role play. When researching
these methods, the following study surfaced. Researchers evaluated the effects of behavioral skills
training (BST) with in situ training (IST) to teach safety skills to 4 7 year old children. The ten
participants were evaluated when they found a gun, on their demonstration of safety skills. In order to
prevent gun play, the children were taught appropriate safety skills using modeling, rehearsal and
feedback (Miltenberger, 65). In addition, simulated situ training (SIT) and in situ training were
compared between all participants. Results of this study demonstrated that SIT and BST significantly
less effective than in situ training (IST) was found to be an effective training tool, and the skills
acquired were generalized and maintained over months. It is essential to provide in situ training to
staff, as this is the best opportunity for skill development and feedback. While this study did not
identify simulated in situ training, or what we refer to as, role play as being the most effective training
method, it is the best way to provide hands on learning opportunities for the staff prior to being

The Issue Of The World Populace Is Doing Combating The Pay...
All through the historical background of the world, segregation in the sum total of what structures
have been a consistent fight; whether its race, sexual orientation, religion, convictions, appearance or
whatever else that makes one individual not quite the same as another, it s occurring each day. One
critical separation issue the world populace is doing combating, happens is the pay gap. Ladies, who
are as similar with the same experience as men are not getting equal pay, this is otherwise called
systemic separation. The acknowledgment that man and lady can deliver the same results, and have
the same ability to fulfill the same. The continuing issue of the past has now turned into an obvious
issue in our current society. Ladies these days have opportunities that were not reachable in past
decades, but rather should overcome, or by and large disregard, the hindrance of being rebuffed over
the long haul for basically being a lady. Does not matter what gender you are, your gender shouldn t
determine your ability, if that individual takes care of business right, he or she ought to be paid for
doing as such, if not, that individual gets repercussions. The impact of sexual orientation on this issue
is exceptionally inquisitive in the matter of why it is even a component in any case. It is broadly
acknowledged all through today s general public that sports is a man s game. Ladies have been
basically avoided from playing sports and also not being equalized as men. Ladies are

Paradise Ghetto In The Holocaust
Theresienstadt: Paradise Ghetto When looking back at the Holocaust, the noun paradise may not be
used to label Ghettos like Lódz or Warsaw. Adolf Hitler, the Führer of Germany, considered the
Theresienstadt Ghetto a gift to the Jews because it was considered one of the more culturally freeing
concentration camps. Even though this concentration camp was more lenient on the rules regarding
cultural expression, the Jews transported there quickly found that it was still part of Hitler s final
solution of the Jewish question. Starting in June of 1940, the Nazis took control over Bohemia and
Moravia, regions close to the fortress town of Terezín, Czechoslovakia. Upon seeing the land, Terezín
was seen to have a purpose for the Germans that were threefold. One of them was to build a holding
point for most of the deported Jews. Another purpose was to be a transit camp to transport Jews to
extermination camps. Finally, it was mainly used to create a façade of the extermination of Jews at

The joint project of the FASB and the IASB is trying to converge the two sets of standards and offer a

address these issues of lack of guidance. Introduction: In January 2006, Isoft Ltd, a Manchester based
supplier of software applications for the healthcare sector, announced that its profit would be below
market expectations due to a change in its accounting policy for revenue recognition, when it
announced its results for the year ended April 2006. This situation is not unusual within the software
industry and reflects the issues that software companies face when it comes to accounting for
revenues. As the financial controller of SoftWarehouse Ltd, my goal is to clarify and explain the main
issues faced by Isoft Ltd; the consequences of those issues on the business and finally; to determine if
those practices could also impact the financial reporting within SoftWarehouse Ltd. Part 1 Examining
the Isoft Ltd example: The underlying principle of Isoft Ltd s historic revenue recognition policy had

A Romantic, Young Adult Novel, Paper Towns by John Green
Paper Towns by John Green is a somewhat romantic young adult novel. The novel s overlying central
idea is that people are not made of paper. They have dimensions; unexposed sides to themselves that
the world may never see. A person can never truly be known, because the human mind is a complex
thing, filled with nooks and crannies never to be exposed. Quentin, a nerdy high school senior, is, and
always has been, infatuated with his next door neighbor Margo Roth Spiegelman. Quentin describes
this situation by saying, My miracle was this: out of all the houses in all the subdivision of Florida, I
ended up living next to Margo Roth Spiegelman (Green 1). Previously best friends, the two have
become largely independent of one another, almost never speaking or even sharing a friendly glance.
Until one night, Margo breaks into Q s window and takes him on a wild night of revenge against her
enemies. Expecting to run into Margo at school the next day, Quentin finds that she has gone missing,
presumably run away. After learning about Margo s tendency of leaving breadcrumb trails, Q soon
discovers the clues, and they are for him. As a whole, the novel is quite cleverly broken up into three
parts; The Strings, The Grass, and The Vessel. Each part of the novel corresponds with a metaphor of
the same name. The first metaphor, the strings, takes a dark look at things. After the young Q and
Margo find the body of a man who killed himself, Margo says, Maybe all the strings

Comparing The Tolkien s The Hobbit
The contrast between different types of leadership appears in the chapter Flies and Spiders in J.R.R
Tolkien s The Hobbit. The chapter starts off with the group no longer having Gandalf lead them
through the perils that lie in the Mirkwood. Thorin helps lead the group past a deadly river that cannot
be touched and helps them until he is captured by elves. Bilbo battle spiders and saves the dwarves on
multiple occasions in Thorin s absence. In this chapter you see a new contrast in Throrin and
Company. No longer having Gandalf Thorin picked up the mantle of leadership and lead by command.
Bilbo then assumed the role of leadership in Thorins absence and lead by putting others first, putting
himself on the line. As the story progresses you have these two types of leadership contrasting
throughout the story. Ultimately in the end Bilbo s was of leadership proved to be better.
When entering the Mirkwood Gandalf left the group leaving Thorin to lead the group through the
woods. Thorin leads the group by command through Mirkwood usually delegating who should do
what in the group. As the group is trying to find their way across the river on pages 132 133 Thorin
takes command of the situation. Once the group had a solid plan Thorin delegates the order of travel

Question: In Chapter 9, Blum and Harvey discuss the many competing versions of Christ that all exist
at the same time in the United States. How do these themes parallel to the representations of Jesus in
comedy?
Answer: One of the popular images of Jesus in modern times is his depiction as a Middle Eastern man,
especially noticeable after the attacks on September 11, 2001. With the increasing amounts of Middle
Eastern people on television, believers had to reconcile these images with their idea of Jesus from that
same region. As seen in Paul Mooney s stand up routine, he joked about the fear of terrorism and
suggested that Osama Bin Laden probably looked like Jesus. Another trend in depictions of Jesus was

The Rump Parliament Essays
The Rump Parliament
That the Rump Parliament had absolutely no achievements at all to its name is a strong statement. As a
governing body setup by the remnants of Pride s Purge, the MP s that remained were all wanted there
originally, indeed by the very man that would eventually dissolve them Oliver Cromwell. So
something had certainly led Cromwell to become increasingly disillusioned with the Parliament he in
sense created. This essay will examine these reasons and just what achievements the Rump succeeded
in.
In needs to be understood just why the Rump were there at all. For what purpose had they been
created in the first place? They would surely have a set goal that had not been met by previous
parliaments. In essence, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There has certainly been no invasion of England since, so is the defence of a nation not an
achievement for the Rump? They had seen a threat and dealt with it swiftly and efficiently.
The actual members of the Rump too need to be examined. They had been left by Pride s Purge from
the parliament which stood without election since 1641. Considering that people would not enter
Parliament until at least their thirties, and that the average life span was approximately forty five, it
can be inferred that a number of members were close to the end of their lives. These people may not
have always had Parliamentary matters on their minds, having to brave still harsh conditions, some did
not even attend.
The Rump faced stern opposition from domestic enemies also. It was attacked by extremists who
wanted the revolution taken a great deal further, and also by Presbyterians and Royalists who wanted
Charles II brought to the throne. This claim was well supported as popular memory of his father s
execution remained sour in the mouths of contemporaries who saw him as a martyr.
The Rump did delve into social reform as they had been required to do so. They made every effort to
rid the country of extremists and dangerous sects, arresting leveller leaders and putting down cults
such as the Ranters. Acts were passed against adultery and blasphemy. It can be argued however that
these can hardly be labelled as achievements. Laws

Comparing Two Planetss
So, there are two groups of planets; the inner planets and the outer planets. They have a lot of
differents like atmosphere, weight, size and more. although the inner and outer planets have a lot in
common like what they revolve, the solar system they are in and more. With eight planets (Mercury,
Venus, Earth Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune) there is a lot of information.
With these many planets there are a lot of similarities, that all the planets have. One thing all they
plant have is an axis, ever though all the axises are different all plants have one. Of course one thing
they have in common is are they planets are in our solar system. A third similarity is that all the
pictures we have of the plants are from the same telescope, the Hubble Telescope. Fourth to be

DDT has been used since WW2 as an insecticide to control the outbreak of malaria and typhus among
troops and civilians. This is because malaria is spread by mosquitos and DDT was considered to be a
powerful in eliminating these populations, thus decreasing the infection rate for malaria. Since it was
first discovered as an insecticide, worldwide it was used in very large amounts because nobody knew
any better and it was considered to be revolutionary. It wasn t until 1962, when biologist Rachel

this period and women were always treated differently in the society. The story starts when Calixta is
at home taking care of household chores while the husband and the son are away from home. A
woman was only supposed to be a housewife and nothing more. Throughout Kate Chopin s story,
Calixta is seen performing household chores which have been labeled as women s work. For instance,
a woman is supposed to cook for the family, do the laundry, cleaning the house and all household

Father Son Relationship In Last Of The Mohicans
The father son relationship in Last of the Mohicans is one of closeness. The fathers and sons live
together, hunt together, fight together. There is a physical closeness, not just a emotional parent child
connection. There is a respect between the son and the father that is more like a man to man
relationship instead of a man to boy relationship. The father daughter relationship in Last of the
Mohicans is somewhat stereotypical. The father is the protector, the provider, the authority figure. The
daughter is the dependent one, feeling the need for the father to be there, to care for them. The
daughter role is not one of independence. However, because Munro is a military man, it is revealed
that his military duties are more important than

Pinhole Camera History
Photography
Photography is a word derived from the Greek words photos ( light ) and graphein ( to draw ) The
word was first used by the scientist Sir John F.W. Herschel in 1839. It is a method of recording images
by the action of light, or related radiation, on a sensitive material (Bellis 1). Photography has been
around for quite a few years. It has evolved from a pinhole camera, to a flexible film camera, and now
to digital cameras, but it is slowly being replaced by cellphones and isn t pursued by as many people.

Urban Farming Could Help Revitalize Declining Cities

Urban Farming Could Help Revitalize Declining Cities Nina Ignaczak
Urban Farming has become increasingly popular in recent years as a way to deal with vacant property,
revitalize neighborhoods and provide job skills and nutrition to remaining local residents struggling
with poverty and a lack of access to fresh produce (Ignaczak). They are taking this vacant property
and using it to farm, which is not a common place for farming to be. Farms are ... Show more content

Streets are safer with more eyes and ears on the street. This helps to reduce crime and stop trouble in
neighborhoods.
Studies have shown that the presence of vegetable gardens in inner city neighborhoods is positively
correlated with decreases in crime, trash dumping, juvenile delinquency, fires, violent deaths, and
mental illness (Ladner). Urban gardens are any easy task to replace other things that have negative
consequences. It is something positive that people can do to replace old negative actions. You do not
need skill or commit a lot of time to care for a garden. Urban gardens have a great economic impact.
So much the better that they also provide healthy activities, education and community building.
Finding space for them is getting easier as their benefits become better known (Ladner). Abandoned
parking lots and industrial sites are great places for urban farming as they are not already green and
protected so they have the biggest added value. They also come with many benefits like community
building, healthy living, free food, increasing property values, and decreasing crime among other
benefits.

Cause And Effects Of Global Warming
Global warming is an increase of Earth s temperature throughout a period of time. Global warming is
a disease that is one of the root causes of Earth s illness. This invisible change has a lot of drastic
effects on mankind, wildlife as well as nature. The reasons to these destructions are humans
themselves. There are some very obvious ways to tackle the situation. Many of the extraordinary
weather changes since the 1950 s are recorded in the instrumental temperature record which stretches
out to the mid 19th Century while having thousands of years according to the Paleoclimate Proxy
Records [IPCC Climate]. Temperature across the whole world is predicted to change throughout this
century and continuing. The Earth s ability to tackle the emission of heat trapping gases, as well as the
amount of gases released will predict the magnitude of global climate change [NASA].
Scientists are sure that global temperatures will continue to rise for decades to come, largely due to
greenhouse gases produced by human activities. 2.5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit of temperature rise is
predicted over the next century by a group of 1300 scientists of The Intergovernmental Panel of
Climate Change (IPCC) from the United States[IPCC]. Climate change will have different effects on
different regions depending on the adapting ability with time, of that region, said IPCC. A 1 to 3
degree Celsius increase in global temperature will have deadly consequences in some region and

Information Systems Designed For Business
When we look at information systems designed for business, we tend to recognize that it involves
integrated and co ordinate network of components, which combine together to convert data into
information. In a recent book entitled a brief look into history author sage, explains that Information
system is essentially made up of five components hardware, software, database, network and people.
These five components integrate to perform input, process, output, feedback and control. (Sage, 1968).
The structure of information is composed of input, output, constraints, purpose, Boundaries. To
explain these functions we will look at a business. A call center will be an example so we will be able
to understand and recognize functions
The first function is Input, According to author Bagad, input purpose is to allow the user to enter data,
and other features include mouse and keyboard are used to insert direct information to open up certain
files or information. The choice of the input depends on the amount of data entry. The software
programs that is available to the agents so they could navigate information for user s customers who
have accounts or future customers. If there is an input system it is often follow by output .The purpose
of the output is to display the results of computer processing. A computer based information system
often requires a number of output devices as a monitor, printer and sound card.

language techniques that Winton has used to enhance the central theme. Some of the main techniques
that Winton had used include; colloquial language, inclusive language and intertextuality. Winton had
used these language techniques across two stories, Damaged Goods and Long Clear View to make the
audience feel/think/ a certain emotion or thought.
The first major language technique that Winton used throughout the short stories Damaged Goods and

George Schuyler, Black No More
George Schuyler, Iconoclast in Black No More
George S. Schuyler, according to Mark Gauvreau Judge, was born in Rhode Island in 1985 and died in
1977. Schuyler s mother eventually remarried after the death of her first husband, and the family
moved to Syracuse NY, where Schuyler was taught by her and his stepfather the protestant ethic of
working for whatever he wanted to achieve (Rac(e)ing to the Right xv). Those teachings, along with
learning from his mother to read at an early age, in all likelihood, were the catalyst to his becoming
one of the most well known Aframerican journalists in the United States and one of America s first
black conservatives, wrote Judge continued. Reconstruction never accomplished its objectives;

Schuyler was mentored in the skill of satire and debate by H.L. Mencken, who became, not only
Schuyler s teacher but his friend (Judge). The Pittsburg Courier is where Schuyler spent forty years,
losing his position after a scathing protest regarding Dr. Martin Luther King s nomination for the
Nobel Peace Prize (Kickler). No one was exempt from Schuyler s scrutiny and criticism, including the
bigoted Ku Klux Klan, the charlatan, Marcus Garvey, the verbose W.E.B. Dubois or the over praised
authors associated with the Harlem Renaissance (Kicker). Jeffrey Ferguson wrote in The Sage of
Sugar Hill that Schuyler looked at himself as a useful irritant. Schuyler, the iconoclast, functioned as a
server of the truth (in his mind) to his readers whom he thought could not ferret it out for themselves.
Using that same point of view Schuyler wrote Black No More, one the first works of African
American science fiction that explored what would happen if all the black people in the U. S. could
become white (7).

Both The Hungry Tide and The Interesting Narrative Of Olaudah Equiano are tales of sociological
hardships combined with a life bound to the sea. The ocean plays a significant role in the text offering
disempowerment to some whilst empowering others. In The Interesting Narrative the slave trade was
in full swing and a capitalist attitude heavily dominates the text, whilst in The Hungry Tide capitalism
plays a smaller role and the humanitarian backdrop of the story is a more central theme. In this essay I

To attempt to leave the island would likely result in death and the most fearful disempowerment
possible. Hywel Dix argues that with no money, power, or political influence, they are simply treated
as objects to be shunted from one location to another. [9] Dix is here arguing that the weak become
weaker at the hands of a greater force, which is exactly what happens to the settlers. The ocean is
therefore seen as disempowering at the hands of the powerful government forces. This use of the
ocean as a way of the strong disempowering the weak is also seen in The Interesting Narrative. In the
same way the ocean is used to imprison the settler s, the Africans find themselves similarly imprisoned
by it on board their ship. Equiano makes a direct reference to his ship as being like a prison; I was
ready to curse the tide that bore us, the gale that wafted my prison. [10] The ocean is much like the
police controlled perimeter that keeps them captive with the looming threat of death for those who
attempt to escape. Gilbert C. Klingel supports this notion of the ocean as being like that of a prison; it
is a prison without bars or cells, the only walls are the lines of gleaming surf. [11] Much like the
settlers, Equiano is powerless to resist and is therefore kept captive by the ocean. In exactly the same

The Texas Horned Lizard Essay
The Texas horned lizard, Phrynosoma cornutum, is a species in the lizard family, Phrynosomatidae,
which has ten genera and a diverse group of over 125 different species (Hammerson 2007; Cossel Jr.
1997). Lizards in this family can be found in Mexico, Panama, most areas of the United States and
parts of Canada (Heying 2003). Phrynosomatids range in a variety of forms, but are most commonly
distinguished by their small size (less than 10 cm long), rough and keeled scales, spikes on their
bodies, and the fusion of the sides of their teeth to the sides of their inner jawbones, known as
pleurodont teeth (Heying 2003). The thirteen species in the horned lizard genus, Phrynosoma, can be

It has developed highly efficient mechanisms for collecting water on the ground and moisture in the
air and transporting it across its skin to its mouth (Map 2010). The Texas horned lizard has hinged
scales, which are interconnected to a system of tubular canals located in the thin keratin layer of its
skin (Sherbrooke et al 2007). When water or moisture comes into contact with the its scales, capillary
forces pull water into the lizard s tubular canals, which is then transported to the mouth for
consumption (Sherbrooke et al 2007). The lizard s hinged scales have also adapted a greater efficiency
of absorbing water by increasing their surface area, which allows for more water to be absorbed and
transported at once (Sherbrooke et al 2007). Furthermore, the lizard has adapted a buccal pumping
mechanism in its mouth, which allows it to pump a constant flow of water into its mouth to drink
(Map 2010; Sherbrooke et al 2007). It has modified structures around its mouth that, combined with
certain tongue and jaw movements, allows it to lower the water pressure and pull a constant flow of
water through its tubular canals and directly into its mouth (Map 2010; Sherbrooke et al 2007). The
Texas horned lizard also exhibits behavioral adaptations that have increased its water absorbing
efficiency. To help increase the capture of water from its scales, the lizard lowers its head and body to
the ground and sticks out its legs to increase the surface area of its body in

Standard Picture Encryption And Decryption
Yong Feng et al, in 2009,the author proposed a new invertible two dimensional chart, shouted Line

Antwone Fisher Symbolism
Throughout the two movies, Gus Van Sant and Denzel Washington used both language and stylistic
features to present the idea of a personal journey, in particular, through the use of symbolism. In the
film, Antwone fisher, Washington uses a symbol of women. The beginning of the film shows how
Antwone was mistreated and abused as a child through flashbacks. In this case the symbol of women
is used to symbolise worthlessness and insignificance as he is abused and beaten by his foster mother

successfully present the idea of a personal journey to their intended audiences.
Social language
Both Gus Van Sant and Denzel Washington successfully use language to present the idea of the
journey in their films however each one uses a different form of language. In Antwone Fisher,
Antwone uses body language or violence to shut people out and create a shield between his emotions
and the outside world, protecting people from getting to him and hurting him. When Antwone starts
seeing a councillor he learns to talk about his feelings and learns to deal with his anger without
violence. In the end of the film Antwone is a different man. He is calm and much more happier and
open as he has learnt to open up about his feelings and deal with emotions in a constructive way. He
learns to talk to people rather than just turning to violence to solve his issues. This shows a social
journey as Antwone learns to talk to people about how he feels rather than putting up a wall and using
violence to shut people out.

In today s society, there are many guidelines of how one should act and be. Gender socialization is the
process where people take on notions of gender roles, gender ideas and gender behaviours. At an early

The Apostle Research Paper
The original term apostle usually refers to the twelve men that Jesus called to carry the gospel to
spread the gospel to the world. These men traveled with Jesus during His earthly ministry. The
original twelve apostles were sent out to preach and teach as apostles (Orr 2). They also saw the
crucifixion and the resurrection. Jesus called His first two disciples by the Sea of Galilee. Peter and his
brother Andrew were both fishermen. In Matthew 4:19 Jesus said Follow me and I will make you
fishers of men (NKJV). He also called James and John who were the sons of Zebedee. Then after
passing a tax office, He saw a man named Matthew. He asked Matthew to follow Him. These people
are the apostles of Jesus: Simon Peter, James, John, Andrew, Philip of Bethsaida, Thomas,
Bartholomew, Matthew, James, Simon (the Zealot), Judas, and Thaddaeus. Peter was the disciple that
Jesus chose to build His church. Peter ministered in Jerusalem but went to Judea when the persecution
began. The apostle John ministered with Peter in Jerusalem. When the persecution began he went to
Turkey and later Rome. He was arrested by the Emperor Domitian and was banished to the island of
Patmos, where he wrote the book of Revelations. Judas Iscariot was one of the original twelve
apostles. He betrayed Christ, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Thomas was stabbed to death in India. James requested to be beheaded. It is believed that Matthew

Simon the Zealot died. Philip was crucified, and Bartholomew was skinned alive and then beheaded.
James was stoned to death in Jerusalem. Judas Iscariot committed suicide (meaning that he killed
himself). John was persecuted and survived. He was exiled to the island of Patmos, where he wrote

Debate Over Stimulated And Overly Connected
Over Stimulated and Overly Connected:
It Maybe Time to Unwind and Disconnect
Jacquelyn Gentry
Eastern Kentucky University
Over Stimulated and Overly Connected:
It Maybe Time to Unwind and Disconnect For many parents; such as myself, it is not uncommon to
have a different activity to drive your child to each night. As a parent of a teenager, it is not
uncommon to see his loving face aglow from the light of his cell phone. In today s age there is an
incessant need to always be busy our selves in fear of being perceived as lazy or perhaps unsuccessful.
A parent who choses to not engage their child in multiple after school activities is thought to be
disengaged or uninterested in their child s development. A child who does not get to be involved in
organized activities can easily feel left out at school when everyone else is talking about their little
league team or dance class. This drive to always be doing something transfers over, as these children
grow into their teenage years. As teenagers, they become very socially engaged via social media. They
develop an overwhelming need to be in constant contact and socially accepted by their peers. To cut a
teenager off from their device is to socially exile them from the world. In other words, it is considered
cruel and unusual punishment . Back in the day, to go to one s room and have down time was normal
and okay. It allotted you the opportunity to unwind, think about your day, come up with possible
resolutions.to

Why Is Animal Cruelty Wrong
Animal cruelty is a global wide issue that has been happening for many, many years. It happens in all
parts of the world, and happens to several different species of animals. From dogs, to cats, to cows and
chickens, each and everyday animal abuse happens. Animal abuse is simply wrong, and there is no
reason for any person anywhere, for any reason to hurt an innocent creature, no matter what. However,
many people who are involved with animal abuse refuse to admit to being apart of it, and will do
everything in their power to deny any type of actions.
An attributing topic to the controversy of animal cruelty is the animal testing done on animals by large
companies. Woman and men who enjoy using cosmetics consume these products by spending a large
sum of money each year on their beauty regimen every year. There are several companies that use
animals to test their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on History of Slavery in the Caribbean
History of Slavery in the Caribbean
The institution of slavery has played a major role in the history, and the shaping of the Caribbean.
Therefore, in order to truly understand the Caribbean one must completely understand slavery itself.
Slavery can be defined as belonging to a person, or being treated like a piece of property, and not
having any individual freedom This was essentially the life many Africans lived for many centuries in
the Caribbean . The master s had total freedom and control over his or her slaves. As a result of this
behavior they were able to run successful sugar plantations that resembled modern day factories. Until
the end of the 18th century many sugar estates used the gang system. The owner treated hundreds ...

Milling had to be done within 24 hours of the cane being cut, otherwise it would spoil. At first there
was just a main mill in the center of the country, but by the 1800 s many planters owned there own
individual mills.
Laws regarding the well being of the slave were as follows; it was strictly up to the discretion of the
master the amount of control he chose to exercise over his slaves. For the most part, it seems as if laws
were the worst on islands where slaves outnumbered the masters, and less severe on the islands
without sugar plantations.
With so little control over there own lives it was truly difficult for slaves to achieve anything. This
especially included freedom. The French Code Noir and the Spanish laws did not make it easy for a
slave to gain freedom, but it was certainly easier for one to become free on these islands than those
owned by the British. The British made it almost impossible for the slaves to gain freedom. In the
Spanish and the French colonies, slaves were given a few legal privileges. The courts on these islands
permitted slaves to own personal property, make contracts, and buy their freedom with their meager
savings. These laws did not exist in the British colonies.
Without the labor of the slaves on the sugar plantations, the sugarcane estates could not have
succeeded the way they did. The slave in turn, became the back bone of the sugar plantation in the
Caribbean. During the rainy season the

Ethnic Groups In The United States
In accordance to the functional theory of stratification developed by Kinsley Davis and Wilber Moore,
Individuals are naturally stratified. Therefore, a society of equal reward and status for all individuals is
impossible (1945). It is further argued that human societies reflect those of beehives, concentrated
around central leadership with complex relationships and many different layers of status and power.
Though some may agree with this statement, this essay will argue that when an ethnic group is
repeatedly and unjustifiably oppressed throughout history, their chances for development and progress
as a group and as individuals become limited. Inequality and unwarranted treatment of individuals due
to their ethnic belonging and cultural differences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

than our Americans neighbors. Although our laws do not specifically target black members of the
community, they are racialized and focus on the indigenous people of Canada. Nearly one third of
federal prisoners are Aboriginals, while they consist of only three percent of the total population in
Canada (Sudbury 2004b). In some provinces like Saskatoon a whopping 76% of prisoners are

The Ballad Of Sir Isaac Newton Research Paper
The Ballad of Sir Isaac Newton by Love Varg offers a brief summary of the mathematician,
astronomer and physicist Isaac Newton. It gives insight into his life including his date of birth, where
he was raised, where he went to school, and much more. Quickly skimming through the life of
Newton, the ideas and concepts within the poem can be expanded upon to discover who Isaac Newton
truly was. The Ballad dives into his personal life, his life as a scientist, and his social life. While
growing up, Isaac Newton seemed to be a regular kid. He had a family that was there for him while he
was young: Little Isaac mine was born/on the same day as our king / he could fit into a quarters mug, /
his mother used to sing (The Ballad of Sir Isaac Newton). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When expanded upon, the words within the ballad give the reader a good understanding of the time
period and who Isaac Newton was. These characteristics are what make him such a household name
today. His laws are still taught in modern day physics and calculus is one of the fundamental classes
taught in schools. If it weren t for Isaac newton, there may not be such an advanced understanding of
contemporary science today. Isaac Newton s unusual life is important in understanding how he
became such a memorable

Analysis Of A Thousand And One Nights
A Thousand and One Nights is a tale about the over sexed east which is favored by the sexually
repressed west when applied to and analyzed under the lens of Orientalism. This translation of the
text, while not as sexually explicit as Sir Richard Burton s translation, has its fair amount of sexual
promiscuity which paints the middle eastern characters as dishonest, violent, and sexually deviant.
These traits were seen as socially taboo to the west, especially those in Victorian Europe who helped
the tale gain its reputation as a popular exotic story. The two main scenes where these traits come into
play both take place within A Thousand and One Nights frame story with Shahrayar and Shahzarman.
Shahzarman kills his adulterous wife and her lover then leaves to visit Shahrayar in his kingdom.
When Shahrayar s wife and servants are caught in the act they are killed and Shahrayar vows to kill
his future brides on their wedding nights which is when Shahrazad attempts to bring him to his senses.
The two brothers are extremely hot headed and violent and their wives are plagued by insatiable lust,
which plays into the sexually charged barbarity perpetuated by Orientalism. Throughout this paper I
will be using Edward Said s definition of Orientalism. Said defines Orientalism as the following:
Orientalism can be discussed and analyzed as the corporate institution for dealing with the Orient
dealing with it by making statements about it, authorizing views of it, describing it, by

The Lottery By Shirley Jackson Setting Essay
Does a beautiful sunny morning in an average little town sound like a setting fit for a stoning
occurring later that day? The setting of a story is very important to the storyline and gives meaning to
each element and theme of the story. The setting of The Lottery by Shirley Jackson has extremely
significant meaning to the plot of this story. The setting represents elements of irony, tradition, and
unity.
The mood in the beginning of the story is cheerful and appears to be a normal day. The children are
playing, the men are talking about planting and rain, tractors and taxes (Jackson 1). Nothing seems to
be abnormal about this particular day. This is a very unusual description of townspeople s activities
and conversations knowing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The boys as we find out in the end are involved in a tragic and awful stoning of a fellow townsperson
with the help of members in the community. The irony comes from the assumption of innocent play
that leads to the killing of an innocent woman.
The lottery takes place at the beginning of the summer. The children have recently started their
summer vacation and people are getting ready for summer activities. Usually during the summer, time
is being spent having fun. People usually are enjoying and celebrating the sun and doing fun activities
when the weather is very nice. The irony in this is that the town is doing the complete opposite of
these common events. The events this town participates in is the stoning of an innocent person. This is
very dark and sad, which is completely opposite of the bright, warm sign that they should be
celebrating and enjoying at this time.
There was one last ironic element displayed. Irony is found in the fact that the women who was
complaining and soon killed in the end was the only women speaking up and making a joke about the
lottery before the drawing occurred. The women named Tessie jokingly states: Get up there, Bill (4).
When her husband s name was called. She acts as if this whole event is all fun and games, and
probably does not think she will pick the paper with the black spot making her the one to be stoned.
After her jokes, her family is selected to pick out of the box again. She picks

Merger and Acquisition Case UV0085 Version 2.2 CHRYSLER CORPORATION: NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN DAIMLER AND CHRYSLER In January 1998, Jürgen Schrempp, CEO of Daimler Benz A.G., approached Chrysler Corporation s chair and chief executive officer (CEO), Robert Eaton, about a possible merger, acquisition, or deep strategic alliance between their two firms. As Schrempp argued: The two companies are a perfect fit of two leaders in their respective markets. Both companies have dedicated and skilled work forces and successful products, but in different markets and different parts of the world. Under the leadership of Lee Iacocca and with the support of federal loan guarantees, Chrysler managed to turn itself around one more time, returning to profitability in 1982. While the late 1980s proved tough for the industry as a whole, the introduction and meteoric rise of the family minivan (a market controlled 47% by Chrysler as of 1996), coupled with the 1987 acquisition and subsequent exploitation of the Jeep brand name, left Chrysler the envy of the U.S. auto market by the mid 1990s. As Fortune magazine stated in late 1996, If a vehicle is in demand and generates high profit margins, you can bet Chrysler s making it. 4 While Chrysler s success and relatively conservative management style attracted praise from industry observers, it also attracted the attention of Las Vegas billionaire Kirk Kerkorian, who with the help of retired Lee Iacocca, mounted a hostile bid for Chrysler in 1995. The (U.S. dollar) $55 per share ($27.50 today following a 2 for 1 stock split in 1996) not only failed to win the approval of Chrysler s board, but also turned out to be largely unfinanced, leaving Chrysler to continue under its current management. • 4. Raymond Carver Cathedral Analysis Blind to the Blind To be imaginative is to be a child. As a person ages, he is expected to mature into adulthood and to live in the real world. He is expected to abandon his childhood dreams and cultivate practicality and factuality. However, imaginations are not limited to unicorns and dragons; it is a skill a person must nurture to realize his dreams and desires. To be imaginative is to be a visionary. Without a vision, a person lacks the sight for compassion, curiosity, and self consciousness. In this sense, imagination is not only to think outside the box, but also to search deeper inside. In the short story, Cathedral by Raymond Carver, Carver develops the idea that a lack of imagination limits a person to the physical and visible world which leads to the blindness to the abstract world and rejection of the uncertain future. It is when a person opens his eyes to the unseen that he can create emotional connection with others and discover the profound truth inside himself. The narrator s lack of imagination leads him to reject what is beyond his visual perception. The narrator looks at his surroundings plainly as they are and therefore fails to see the deeper meanings behind it. Throughout the story, the narrator is watching television, which symbolizes his narrow perspective and his failure to observe the world on his own. His idea of blindness came from the movies (Carver 315) and this preconceived notion results in his unenthusiastic attitude towards Robert before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Though, They re both very similar and both very different in their own ways, which makes it difficult to find the differences. But, There are also many similarities between them. The way that the two are similar is that you can solve both problems the same way, for example: If you had 2x + 2 = 10 You d solve it by subtracting 2 with 10, which would result in an 8. 2x + 2 = 10 2x = 8 After this, you d divide 2 with 2, and 2 with 8, which would give you a 4. So the answer would be X = 4. So 4 would be the only answer. 2x + 2 = 10 2x = 8 X = 4 If you did this with an IneQuality, it would turn out the same, except if you divide ... But, if it was all numbers greater than 4, it would be like this: 3 4 5 Despite the two having a couple differences and a couple similarities, both can be used in the world around us, since, depending on the symbol you use, you d still get the same answer nonetheless. However, there still are more differences between the two. Even if you do the Math equation the same, the symbols can cause the answer to shift, and make it so the two aren t the same. For example: If you used 12x + 6 = 6 (2x+1 ) You d start by multiplying the 6 by 2, since the 6 is next to a parenthesis symbol, which would give you 12, and you d multiply the 6 with 1, which would give you 6 in return.

  • 10. Eliot Deutsch s The Concept Of The Body The body, while seemingly clearly definable and universally understood, is a concept that humans have struggled to define and understand for much of history. Social conceptions of the mind or spirit shaped philosophers understandings of the relationship between the mind and body, as well as attitudes toward the body. In his essay The Concept of the Body, Eliot Deutsch presents readers with four popular modes of conceiving of the body. These models, popularized at different points throughout history, are the prison, the temple, the machine, and the instrument. Through reading Plato s dialogue Phaedo, one gains perspective on Socrates conception of the body as primarily a prison. The prison body metaphor, as explained by Deutsch, is premised on the fundamental belief in a duality of mind and body, meaning that the mind and body are separate entities with different wants, needs, and characteristics. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When one goes to prison, one is stripped of one s freedom, possessions, and overall sense of identity. Similarly, Socrates views the body as taking something away from the soul. However, in this case it is not freedom nor identity, but wisdom. The belief that the body takes something from an individual is present in Socrates epistemological beliefs. To Socrates, learning is recollection. To prove this, Socrates introduces the Theory of Opposites, which states that all things in the world come out of their opposites: largeness out of smallness, loudness out of quietness, life out of death. He reasons that this proves that the soul is immortal and after death enters a new body. This idea alone lends itself to the body as a prison metaphor as a soul does not belong to any body, but rather put inside of a body with a degree of randomness. However, the prison body metaphor is more strongly reinforced by Socrates belief that the soul is exposed to the Forms in the period between death and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Researchers evaluated the effects of behavioral skills training (BST) with in situ training (IST) to teach safety skills to 4 7 year old children. The ten participants were evaluated when they found a gun, on their demonstration of safety skills. In order to prevent gun play, the children were taught appropriate safety skills using modeling, rehearsal and feedback (Miltenberger, 65). In addition, simulated situ training (SIT) and in situ training were compared between all participants. Results of this study demonstrated that SIT and BST significantly less effective than in situ training (IST) was found to be an effective training tool, and the skills acquired were generalized and maintained over months. It is essential to provide in situ training to staff, as this is the best opportunity for skill development and feedback. Adolf Hitler, the Führer of Germany, considered the Theresienstadt Ghetto a gift to the Jews because it was considered one of the more culturally freeing concentration camps. Even though this concentration camp was more lenient on the rules regarding cultural expression, the Jews transported there quickly found that it was still part of Hitler s final solution of the Jewish question. Starting in June of 1940, the Nazis took control over Bohemia and Moravia, regions close to the fortress town of Terezín, Czechoslovakia. • 15. A Romantic, Young Adult Novel, Paper Towns by John Green Paper Towns by John Green is a somewhat romantic young adult novel. The novel s overlying central idea is that people are not made of paper. They have dimensions; unexposed sides to themselves that the world may never see. A person can never truly be known, because the human mind is a complex thing, filled with nooks and crannies never to be exposed. Quentin, a nerdy high school senior, is, and always has been, infatuated with his next door neighbor Margo Roth Spiegelman. Quentin describes this situation by saying, My miracle was this: out of all the houses in all the subdivision of Florida, I ended up living next to Margo Roth Spiegelman (Green 1). Previously best friends, the two have become largely independent of one another, almost never speaking or even sharing a friendly glance. Until one night, Margo breaks into Q s window and takes him on a wild night of revenge against her enemies. Expecting to run into Margo at school the next day, Quentin finds that she has gone missing, presumably run away. After learning about Margo s tendency of leaving breadcrumb trails, Q soon discovers the clues, and they are for him. As a whole, the novel is quite cleverly broken up into three parts; The Strings, The Grass, and The Vessel. Each part of the novel corresponds with a metaphor of the same name. The first metaphor, the strings, takes a dark look at things. After the young Q and Margo find the body of a man who killed himself, Margo says, Maybe all the strings ... Answer: One of the popular images of Jesus in modern times is his depiction as a Middle Eastern man, especially noticeable after the attacks on September 11, 2001. With the increasing amounts of Middle Eastern people on television, believers had to reconcile these images with their idea of Jesus from that same region. Considering that people would not enter Parliament until at least their thirties, and that the average life span was approximately forty five, it can be inferred that a number of members were close to the end of their lives. These people may not have always had Parliamentary matters on their minds, having to brave still harsh conditions, some did not even attend. The Rump faced stern opposition from domestic enemies also. It was attacked by extremists who wanted the revolution taken a great deal further, and also by Presbyterians and Royalists who wanted Charles II brought to the throne. This claim was well supported as popular memory of his father s execution remained sour in the mouths of contemporaries who saw him as a martyr. The Rump did delve into social reform as they had been required to do so. This is because malaria is spread by mosquitos and DDT was considered to be a powerful in eliminating these populations, thus decreasing the infection rate for malaria. Gender socialization is the process where people take on notions of gender roles, gender ideas and gender behaviours. At an early age, boys and girls are told how to behave and act according to societal norms of gender behaviours and roles. The comparison of Jane Smiley s article You Can Never Have too Many and John McMurty s , Kill Em! Crush Em! The author stereotypically socializes the gender roles of males through the quote The choice is made straightforward. Either you, too, do your very utmost to efficiently smash and be smashed or you admit incompetence or cowardice and quit. (McMurtry 251). This quote portrays that stereotypically males should possess characteristics of courage and strength and that weakness is frowned upon. Society portrays an image that male should be strong and warrior like whereas female are nurturing and supportive at the early ages through toys and sports. Gender appearances are also introduced in the early stages of the children. ( try and make this flow more with your previous sentence) Toys and sports also promote gender appearances. Male appearances are characterized by being physically fit, strong and aggressive whereas females are to be beautiful, feminine and nurturing. Jane Smiley describes Barbie as being slender, stylish and most of all popular. Barbie is often dressed in pink and wears make up. Models in today s society fit this description which makes other females want to achieve the same look. The appearances for females set by society s norms are presented in toys that gives off the message that if you do not look like this , it is considered unattractive. Debate Over Stimulated And Overly Connected Over Stimulated and Overly Connected: It Maybe Time to Unwind and Disconnect Jacquelyn Gentry Eastern Kentucky University Over Stimulated and Overly Connected: It Maybe Time to Unwind and Disconnect For many parents; such as myself, it is not uncommon to have a different activity to drive your child to each night. As a parent of a teenager, it is not uncommon to see his loving face aglow from the light of his cell phone. In today s age there is an incessant need to always be busy our selves in fear of being perceived as lazy or perhaps unsuccessful. A parent who choses to not engage their child in multiple after school activities is thought to be disengaged or uninterested in their child s development. A child who does not get to be involved in organized activities can easily feel left out at school when everyone else is talking about their little league team or dance class. This drive to always be doing something transfers over, as these children grow into their teenage years. As teenagers, they become very socially engaged via social media. They develop an overwhelming need to be in constant contact and socially accepted by their peers. To cut a teenager off from their device is to socially exile them from the world. In other words, it is considered cruel and unusual punishment . Back in the day, to go to one s room and have down time was normal and okay. It allotted you the opportunity to unwind, think about your day, come up with possible resolutions.to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It happens in all parts of the world, and happens to several different species of animals. From dogs, to cats, to cows and chickens, each and everyday animal abuse happens. Animal abuse is simply wrong, and there is no reason for any person anywhere, for any reason to hurt an innocent creature, no matter what. • 45. Essay on History of Slavery in the Caribbean History of Slavery in the Caribbean The institution of slavery has played a major role in the history, and the shaping of the Caribbean. Therefore, in order to truly understand the Caribbean one must completely understand slavery itself. Slavery can be defined as belonging to a person, or being treated like a piece of property, and not having any individual freedom This was essentially the life many Africans lived for many centuries in the Caribbean . The master s had total freedom and control over his or her slaves. As a result of this behavior they were able to run successful sugar plantations that resembled modern day factories. Until the end of the 18th century many sugar estates used the gang system. The owner treated hundreds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Milling had to be done within 24 hours of the cane being cut, otherwise it would spoil. At first there was just a main mill in the center of the country, but by the 1800 s many planters owned there own individual mills. Laws regarding the well being of the slave were as follows; it was strictly up to the discretion of the master the amount of control he chose to exercise over his slaves. For the most part, it seems as if laws were the worst on islands where slaves outnumbered the masters, and less severe on the islands without sugar plantations. With so little control over there own lives it was truly difficult for slaves to achieve anything. This especially included freedom. The French Code Noir and the Spanish laws did not make it easy for a slave to gain freedom, but it was certainly easier for one to become free on these islands than those owned by the British. The British made it almost impossible for the slaves to gain freedom. In the Spanish and the French colonies, slaves were given a few legal privileges. The courts on these islands permitted slaves to own personal property, make contracts, and buy their freedom with their meager savings. These laws did not exist in the British colonies. Without the labor of the slaves on the sugar plantations, the sugarcane estates could not have succeeded the way they did. The slave in turn, became the back bone of the sugar plantation in the Caribbean. During the rainy season the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, a society of equal reward and status for all individuals is impossible (1945). It is further argued that human societies reflect those of beehives, concentrated around central leadership with complex relationships and many different layers of status and power. Though some may agree with this statement, this essay will argue that when an ethnic group is repeatedly and unjustifiably oppressed throughout history, their chances for development and progress as a group and as individuals become limited. • 48. Analysis Of A Thousand And One Nights A Thousand and One Nights is a tale about the over sexed east which is favored by the sexually repressed west when applied to and analyzed under the lens of Orientalism. This translation of the text, while not as sexually explicit as Sir Richard Burton s translation, has its fair amount of sexual promiscuity which paints the middle eastern characters as dishonest, violent, and sexually deviant. These traits were seen as socially taboo to the west, especially those in Victorian Europe who helped the tale gain its reputation as a popular exotic story. The two main scenes where these traits come into play both take place within A Thousand and One Nights frame story with Shahrayar and Shahzarman. Shahzarman kills his adulterous wife and her lover then leaves to visit Shahrayar in his kingdom. When Shahrayar s wife and servants are caught in the act they are killed and Shahrayar vows to kill his future brides on their wedding nights which is when Shahrazad attempts to bring him to his senses. The two brothers are extremely hot headed and violent and their wives are plagued by insatiable lust, which plays into the sexually charged barbarity perpetuated by Orientalism. Throughout this paper I will be using Edward Said s definition of Orientalism. Said defines Orientalism as the following: Orientalism can be discussed and analyzed as the corporate institution for dealing with the Orient dealing with it by making statements about it, authorizing views of it, describing it, by ... The setting of a story is very important to the storyline and gives meaning to each element and theme of the story. The setting of The Lottery by Shirley Jackson has extremely significant meaning to the plot of this story. The setting represents elements of irony, tradition, and unity. The mood in the beginning of the story is cheerful and appears to be a normal day. The children are playing, the men are talking about planting and rain, tractors and taxes (Jackson 1). The boys as we find out in the end are involved in a tragic and awful stoning of a fellow townsperson with the help of members in the community. The irony comes from the assumption of innocent play that leads to the killing of an innocent woman. The lottery takes place at the beginning of the summer. The children have recently started their summer vacation and people are getting ready for summer activities. Usually during the summer, time is being spent having fun. People usually are enjoying and celebrating the sun and doing fun activities when the weather is very nice. The irony in this is that the town is doing the complete opposite of these common events. The events this town participates in is the stoning of an innocent person. This is very dark and sad, which is completely opposite of the bright, warm sign that they should be celebrating and enjoying at this time. There was one last ironic element displayed. Irony is found in the fact that the women who was complaining and soon killed in the end was the only women speaking up and making a joke about the lottery before the drawing occurred. The women named Tessie jokingly states: Get up there, Bill (4). When her husband s name was called.
