The American Dream In Jon Krakauer s Into The Wild
The major tenets of the quintessential American dream can be found in the ideology of every person
proud to be an American. The America seen today is not the same as it was 50 years prior, so how can
one expect the central dream to be the same? In fact, each person has developed an opinion on what
the American dream may mean for him/her. For one, the dream may still be the white picket fence still
life from so many years ago, but for another, it may be the accumulation of riches and fame. In Jon
Krakauer s Into the Wild, he shows us that Chris McCandless cared not for the quotidian rat race he
had grown so accustomed to, but more for the intricacies that the natural world had to offer. I believe
that although Chris McCandless may not have made it out of Alaska alive, he still succeeded in
discovering what he went there for, and in turn died fulfilling his own American dream.
The dictionary defines the American dream as the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity
traditionally held to be available to every American. Chris McCandless came from a wealthy family
with everything he could ever need being provided for him. His parents had achieved the conventional
American dream. They had enough money to provide for their family and then some, a nice home, and
a good education for the whole family. To the outsider looking in, it would be easy to assume that
Chris McCandless had a perfect life full of everything he desired and unrelenting happiness. This was
not the case.

Justice In Ancient Civilizations
Since the beginning of time, society imposes us different rules of etiquettes that we need to follow.
Keep your mouth close while eating, be polite with older people, hold the door for ladies etc... These
are actual ones but its interesting to see the evolution of the etiquette through time. At a certain point
in the middle age, it was convenable to burp as loudly as you can after eating to show your host that
the food was good. In fact, the rules of etiquettes are strongly linked with social values like respect.
Other social values were really important in ancient civilizations. Despite the lack of organisation of
their societies, justice and religion were concerns for every leader of these civilizations. In this
argumentative essay, I will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As we seen in the first paragraph, many books of law have been created to regulate many activities or
forbid others. Ancient Egypt has their book of the dead, Ancient Mesopotamia their Hammurabi s
code and ancient Hittites had a pretty similar book of law created by using Hammurabi s code has a
base . It s interesting how these texts are advanced for the time they were written. Has a leader, you
need a way to spread these ideas through all the civilization. They did it without printers or social
network, this is pretty impressive. Some surprising policies have been made following this justice
concept. For example, Eye for an eye law was made by Mesopotamians to penalized the criminal by
doing him the same thing he did or something equivalent. In our modern society, we would think this
is horrible and this practice would be forbidden but in these times, it s a way to increase justice and
make their world more equal. Moreover, using a strong military system, Greek civilizations like
Sparta have a justice system based on their military order. Some could say that this is not justice
because there is not really an establish system but the will to regulate activities of the population is a
form of justice for me. In brief, civilizations are sharing the same justice desire but use different
method to reach their

Gorbachev Research Paper
Coming into 1985, the Soviet Union was a closed off society which had suffered under the leadership
of old, delusional men. It was clear that, as Mikhail Gorbachev himself said the night before being
appointed the head of the Communist Party, We can t go on living like this (Gaddis, 229). Mikhail
Gorbachev was a relatively young and educated leader, ready to change the USSR for the better. But it
is here attempting to juggle his new social reform policies and his desire to stay in power that
Gorbachev stumbled. By the end of 1991, it was evident that Gorbachev was not a good juggler at all
not only did he lose all his power and popularity within his country, but the Soviet Union itself
collapsed. Ultimately, it was the reforms Gorbachev ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The biggest was his decision to not use force in the internal affairs of other communist states (Gaddis,
239). Hence, the 1989 revolutions occurred whereby communism rule ended in Eastern Europe. On
August 24, 1989, the first non communist government in postwar Eastern Europe took power in
Poland (Gaddis, 241). The revolutionary feeling quickly spread to Hungary, East Germany,
Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria and Romania and by the end of 1989, the Soviets had lost all control and
influence over their Eastern Europe satellites. Thus, it is understandable why many in the USSR
perceived this as a weakness and blamed Gorbachev. Furthermore, as the free flow of information
continued and new freedoms allowed people within the Soviet Union to explore their cultural identity
in a political context, republics within the USSR started to push for independence too. Gorbachev s
power was diminishing, accelerated by the rising popularity of Russian nationalist Boris Yeltsin and
other political opponents. In short, the loss of the Eastern Bloc increased nationalist and revolutionary
feelings within the USSR, thus further diminishing Gorbachev s power as his citizens turned to other

ABSTRACT
This scientific paper investigates my hypothesis that Higher molecular weight produce faster diffusion
. Diffusion is a process of equalization which involves movement of molecules from an area of high
concentration to an area of low concentration (Biology 101.1). As Thomas Graham (1831 1833) found
out on his study that gases of different nature diffuse with each other, it is a challenge as to how true it

In performing the proper experimentation, we poured some of the methylene blue substrate in a piece
of paper, for ease transport towards the agar plates. We performed it cautiously by not inhaling it, for it
is a form of powder. We carefully place the substrate at the center of the agar plates, to ensure that is
that there is enough space for diffusion to take place. After the moment we placed the substrate, we
carefully placed a transparent ruler under the plate to measure the diameter of the substrate in 0
minutes. We carefully note the time, having a 15 minute interval and record the changes in the
diameter of the substrate. We continued it, until we have an hour observation.
After gathering all the data, we solved for the rate of diffusion of each using the formula.
Rate= Final diameter Initial diameter Time
After finishing the Methylene blue experiment, we followed the same procedure to Potassium
Permanganate.
Each group presented the result to the white board, so that we can compare the results. We kept a
record of the results and have a short conversation with our group mates in interpreting the results of
the conducted experiment.
Towards the end, we throw the agar gel to the trash can, clean the petri dish, tighten the bottles and
clean the tables where we performed the experiment.

Palm Oil Growth And Sustainability
Palm Oil Growth in Peru Slows as Land Suitability and Sustainability Take Top Priority
Palm is a tree crop suited to cultivation in climatic conditions similar to those of the tropical
rainforest. From 1999 to 2009, global production more than doubled. Thirty years ago, palm oil
accounted for less than 2 percent but now accounts for 37 percent of vegetable oil consumption
worldwide, and palm has displaced soy as the world s most important vegetable oil. Palm oil is used
as a biofuel, for cooking, and in a wide range of other items, including food products, cosmetics, soaps
and detergents.
Malaysia and Indonesia produce 85 percent of the world s palm oil. Expansion in these two countries
is expected to diminish by 2022, however, as land suitable for additional palm oil production
dwindles. As an alternative, developers are looking to other regions for expansion, including Latin
America. Estimates suggest that Peru has the second largest area potentially suitable for increased oil
palm production within this region.
Area Expansion
In 2003, the Peruvian government announced that the production of biofuels, including palm oil,
would be a priority. Before 2006, palm expansion in Peru was slow and occurred mainly on already
cleared land (mostly pastures and secondary growth forests, as opposed to old growth forests.)
Between 2006 and 2010, however, area doubled, and about 70 percent of all new palm plantations
during this time were established by old growth clearing.

Exploratory Manipulatives
Using hands on resources and manipulatives in mathematics is important for student s development of
mathematical content knowledge. Knaus Featherstone (2014. p. 12) state that through the
manipulation of objects in a mathematically rich environment children are able to achieve an
understanding providing a bridge between everyday concepts and abstract concepts. Furthermore,
manipulatives and play are linked. During play with manipulatives such as an age appropriately fill
treasure basket children are able to explore a range of objects shapes, sizes, textures, weights, lengths
and the mathematical language that is related to the objects (Knaus Featherstone, 2014). According to,

The Yellow Wallpaper Response
A short story is engaging, if its focus is on one character, a variety of literary devices are used to show
rather than tell a story and an impressive and well built plot. To prove my point of view, I will use The
Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Firstly, a short story is satisfying if it revolves around
a single character. The Yellow Wallpaper is about Jane , who is suffering from postpartum depression,
but doctors misdiagnosis it as hysteria and prescribes perfect bed rest and isolation. She is staying in a
bedroom which has yellow wallpaper. Being trapped in bed, isolated from others except for her
husband and husband s sister, staying away from her baby, in this situation her only activity is to look
at the wallpaper which she describes as It is dull enough to confuse the eye in following, pronounced
enough to constantly irritate and provoke study, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gradually, she starts to think that there is a woman trapped behind the yellow wallpaper who wants to
come outside. She tears down the wallpaper so that woman is free from imprisonment. Secondly, the
use of figurative language is crucial for an impressive pleasurable short story. For instance, in The
Yellow Wallpaper Charlotte uses delicious garden, atrocious nursery, blessed little goose, mysterious
deep shaded arbors, the riotous old fashioned flowers, gnarly trees etc. About the paper she expresses
her feeling as this paper looks to me as if it knew what a vicious influence it had, the pattern lolls look
like a broken neck and two bulbous eyes. Up and down and sideways they crawl, and those absurd
unblinking eyes are everywhere . Afterward, she thinks that it is like a woman stooping down and
creeping

Paternalism And Boxing Essay
The violent sport of boxing has been commonly seen as immoral due to its violent nature. Many
studies have looked into the physical impacts of participating in boxing and have found that the risks
may not be worth the reward, but when compared to other sports, boxing is relatively similar in
violent nature. Between 1945 and 1981, 339 individuals died while partaking in the sport of boxing
(Cohen, 1984). When looking at boxers head scans, 41% of athletes had anomalies in the brain, where
in other sports, only 14% of athletes had brain anomalies (Cohen, 1984). Boxers all scored lower in
intelligence tests compared to other athletes (Cohen, 1984). The main question being extrapolated
from this evidence, is how can society continue to allow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This concept is commonly introduced to sport because many times boxers do not have the mental
capacity, age, or competence to consent to boxing, therefore many believe that a paternalistic figure
needs to assist with decision making. One would believe, in this case that the law should interfere for
the good of the persons involved, in a way that it acts to ensure that there are health warnings on
cigarette packages (Davis, 1993, p.49). To further discuss this notion, discourses surrounding
paternalism need to be examined in consideration to boxing. Paternalism is defined as the interference
of liberty for what is believed to be for the own good of the individual. This interventionism looks out
for the safety of both boxers and the community and therefore looks out for the better good of the
community as a communitivistic approach. An athletes community, meaning the people who surround
the sport of boxing, can takeover in cases where it feels like everyone is being harmed in some sense
of the word. The reason why communities believe that boxing is worse off than other violent sports is
because of its inherently violent nature. Sports such as football, and hockey do not base their
fundamental sporting rules around violence. As boxing is a largely viewed sport, this inherent violence
can be familiarized with the audience as an act that is okay and acceptable, illustrating that children
and adults will walk out of the match thinking that violence is morally justified. As boxing is so
adamantly available to the public, on television and in the ring; it can prescribe an attitude of unsafe
behavior and growing norms surrounding the acceptance of violence in general, not pertaining to
sport. This point proves that individuals are very intertwined with community and traditional ways

Feminism Is An Effective Ideology Within Politics
Over the last few decades and even today in 2017, feminism has been a widely debated topic. The
misunderstanding in regards to what feminism is and the reason behind it play a large role in this
issue. Before the feminist movement, women were pretty much considered second class citizens.
Feminism is more than just angry, male hating women protesting. Feminism is about change, equality
and opportunity for women of all races and age. There are many reasons as to why feminism has been
an effective ideology within politics. Because of feminism and the women s work movement, more
women than ever before have been given the opportunity to make a difference in government.

2) Feminism brought this issue to light. As a result, more and more countries are using various
methods to slowly increase the percentage of women. One of the more popular methods is to use a
quota. A quota is a mandatory or voluntary number or percentage of women needed to be placed or
hired. (www.lop.parl.gc.ca) Since the adoption of constitutional quotas, the country of Rwanda has
been first in female representation since 2003. Women make up about 48.8% to 63.8% of the
representation in their governments lower house. (www.lop.parl.gc.ca) Because of the large amount of
representation in office, women have more of their issues brought forward and dealt with. For
example, in Latin America, the use of quotas has led to improvements on divorce, domestic violence
legislation, and child care. (Smith, 2005)
The involvement with national and international non governmental organizations (NGOs) along with
other women s groups have been quite beneficial. With these groups and organizations, women not
only have international and transnational relationships with others, but they can also use these groups
to promote women s rights, organize resistances, and to handle issues in regards to a global women s
agenda. (Hawkesworth, 2012 pg. 249) For example, sexual trafficking, gender justice, and women s
economic welfare. These organizations can bring awareness to a specific cause, as a result change can
be made. An example of this would be the adoption of the

The Art Of Art Reflection
While visiting the SCAD museum of Art I came across an extraordinary piece of art that caught my
eye.You Diserve it mama!! by, Aaron Fowler this art piece caught my eye for many reasons. One being
it was a tribute to his mom.Secondly I liked the way the artist used everyday items to create this piece.
The Art piece was very visual with the mom cooking and cleaning Fowler used cloths for her clothing
and newspaper cutouts for the pots and pans she was using to cook.He used iron boards to display the
mom and husband in their house, the husband looks as he is walking in from somewhere with their
dog next to him.Fowler was very creative with the way he designed the piece the everyday items and
the iron board had the feels of home and the way he betrayed the house with a fireplace and a painting
above it. The scenery looks as if its a real house with it looking messy and very decorative. Aaron

A Short Note On 13, And Patau Syndrome
Trisomy 13, or Patau Syndrome, is caused by the presence of three chromosome copies on
chromosome 13. An extra copy of chromosome 13 causes the majority of cases. Some cases are
caused by a Robertsonian translocation between chromosome 13 and other autosomes such as
chromosomes 15, 21, and 22. According to Bishra Clericuzio Trisomy 13 is the third most common
autosomal trisomy, with an incidence of 1 per 10,000 (Bishara Clericuzio, 2008, p. 30). It is comprised
mainly of defects of the eyes, nose, lips, forebrain, holoprosencephaly, polydactyly, and narrow
hyperconvex fingernails, and skin defects of the posterior scalp. The median age of survival is seven
days, with over 90% of affected patients dying within the first year of life (Jones Casanelles, 2014).
Common causes of death include cardiac arrest, complications of congenital heart disease, and
pneumonia. Those that survive the neonatal period have an average length of stay in the neonatal
intensive care unit (NICU) of 10 days. According to studies, almost one quarter of patients have at
least one type of surgery in the neonatal period. More than half of fetuses with trisomy 13
spontaneously abort. Most survivors have severe intellectual disability, seizures, developmental delay,
and failure to thrive. The incidence is slightly higher in females compared to males.
The etiology of this disorder is trisomy of chromosome 13. Although most children do not survive
longer than one year, it is one of the

Barnes Noble vs. Amazon
To attain a competitive advantage over Amazon.com, Barnes Noble needs to develop a proper strategy

Barnes Noble first must consider the issues and problems facing their company, and then perform an
opportunity analysis to determine their strengths and weaknesses in relation to their customers,
competitors, and company capabilities. In regards to the main concerns of Barnes Noble, the company
needs to worry about the uncertainties associated with the expected rapid growth of the Internet, the

With their traditional stores, Barnes Noble established a 2.5 million title database designed to help
consumers find books, but despite this advancement, the company s distribution structure is far
inferior to Amazon.com s. Both the tax exempt online purchased books and the traditionally purchased
ones are routed through the same distribution center in New Jersey and have to be separated from each
other to avoid confusion. Contrarily, their main competitor is much more efficient and cost reducing.
Amazon.com s West Coast operation permits non Washington state residents from paying sales taxes,
and instead of working with publishers, the company depends on wholesalers to provide fast
turnaround in shipment, allowing them to have few books on hand at their distribution center. In the
marketing channel, this just in time production reduces inventory levels, thereby lowering costs in
production and storeroom fees. Because of increased competition, Barnes Noble needs to develop a
plan to enhance their own market position and to challenge Amazon.com s channel advantage.
ALTERNATIVES
In order to deal with the issues posed above, Barnes Noble has to focus on a possible alternative
strategy. At this time,

Jonas Fletcher was a man who could never sit still, and do what had others wanted of him. Born into a
wealthy family, all of his needs and desires were available. The decadent lifestyle of his family was
something he loathed and despised. They had their money from one of the largest companies in the
defense industry. Jonas inherited the business when his grandfather died, much to the fury of his
family. He sold the assets of the company and kept some things for himself. His family refused to

Health Behavior Change Diary Template on quitting cigarette smoking Health behavior I wish to
change:
Significant number of people has been addicted to the habit of smoking despite of knowing the fact
that it is injurious to health. In the past, it was considered as the taboos and only adult group was
habituated but currently, it is common among both adolescent and adult population. Cigarette smoking
is habit of inhaling smoke of cigarette and releasing it. A study by Gong (2011, pp.48) reveals that the
prevalence of cigarette smoking among adult of age group 45 65years is higher than adolescent age
group 15 24 years with 63% and 33.6% respectively. The two common reasons for cigarette smoking

A study by Husten et al., (2012, pp. 177) reveals that the awareness program including the
involvement of health professionals, discussing the method of cessation of smoking and exploring the
health hazard due to cigarette smoking reduces the prevalence of smoking. In the process of quitting
the smoking there is two method self change and therapy change, self change include the process like
verbal process where the similar group member for a instance smoker communicate with each other,
exploring the benefit of smoking cessation. Secondly, decision making on quitting the cigarette and
lastly behavior change (DiClemente, Prochaska, 2010, pp.141). I choose self change method to quit
my smoking habit for long term plan. And for short term plan I will be using gum and e cigarette
which will substitute the smoking behavior. Smokers using e cigarette are found to be highly
motivated, higher self efficacy and success in quitting (Pokhrel, Fagan, Little, Kawamoto, Herzog,
2013, pp.59).

Precognitive Dream Research Paper
How to Identify a Precognitive Dream
Future prediction, whether through a precognitive dream or a psychic reading, rarely give a play by

used to work the psychic lines. One female caller wanted to know if she was going to get a lot of
money from her soon to be ex husband. My Angels answer was, You will be taken care of financially.
She became furious when she ask the questions three different ways and my Angels kept giving her
the same answer. At one point she yelled, You re not answering my question! My response was, This
is the way my Angels are answering it.

Frist Dream
I dreamed that I was with my man, C., and his male friend/co worker at an interesting store. In our
waking life, we have gone out on double dates with C s co worker and wife. I was having a good time
and didn t want to leave.
In the second scene we are with a bunch of his co workers in a place that looks like a department
store, I felt uncomfortable around these people because I didn t know them. C. goes off with a bunch
of people from work up the elevator, leaving me with two of his male office mate that I wasn t crazy
about. I said, Where s C. going? One of the men told me not to worry about it, yet I felt really upset
that he wasn t with me and left me stuck here.
The dream had a precognitive vibe to it, yet I was puzzled to its meaning. I got a text from C. letting
me know we had two opportunities to go out this Saturday and if I was interested. The first was from
our friend who wanted to go to antique stores, but his wife had to work. The second was to see the
movie John Wick plus go out to eat with a bunch of people from his job. I laughed as I thought that s
what the dream meant; I replied yes to the

Evil In Augustine s Theodicy
Evil, a thing we all fear that comes in many shapes and sizes, the most malevolent being in the
universe. Why is it here, why does it exist? We can all give examples of evil actions, people, things,
and places that we as a society believe are truly evil, but it is important to understand where did we
conceived these ideas. Theodicy is defined as the many different views on the existence of evil, but we
must go more in depth in order to correctly define what is good and bad. Evil is known to be the
source of bad and God, the creator of heaven and earth, the divine being, is the counter opposite of
evil. If God is an omnipresent being, who is omni benevolent, why does evil exist on his earth in such
extensive ways? An atheist may argue is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Rebellion , Ivan speaks of the cruel suffering of children and reverts back to Adam and Eve eating
the forbidden fruit. He states that adults ate the apple and that little children have not eaten anything
and are not yet guilty of anything (Dostoevsky, 238). From this, the question arises, if children are not
guilty of anything, why too do they suffer? Augustine s theodicy of original sin could be applied to
this question in search for an answer, but these children were too young to understand free will. Most
children, unlike adults, do not know how to fight for themselves. It is hard to distinguish how children

expand by selling custom designed ribbon table arrangements for special events. As a result Carmen
she purchased a used sewing machine for $1,800 cash on May 1.
The investors asked Carmen to provide a financial report covering March 1st June 30th. Upon review
of this information, Carmen gathered the following. Customers paid $7,400 in cash for ribbons and
accessories, but she was still owed $320 for a transaction on June 30. A part time employee was still
owed $90 after being paid $1,510. Rent was paid in cash at the end of each month. Inventory

Occupancy rate: hotel Sofitel is an international brand so the popularity of the hotel is increasing day
by day. As Sofitel hotel is licensed with planet 21 gold certificate. It uses eco friendly products and

83% in last one year.
Average room rate: Room rate of Sofitel hotel depends upon the type of the rooms. But average room
rate starts from $285 NZD. But the prestige and junior suites will have higher rate than that. It differs
because different rooms provide different facilities.
Yield percentage: Yield percentage information cannot be gained by the hotel as it is an internal
information. But as I researched about the yield percentage of hotel Sofitel they mentioned that
normally it is depending on the seasons and how many customers are visiting to their hotel in certain
time period.
Seasonality: seasonality matters a lot in the hotel industry as the occupancy is influenced by the
different seasons. New Zealand has four seasons. Those are called summer, autumn, winter and Spring

Using Strategic Planning
This information was gathered in an interview with Andrea Williams, Principal of Theresa Bunker
Elementary. In the past three years that Mrs. Williams has been principal of this school she has
brought a strong focus onto using data to make appropriate instructional decisions as well as execute
strategic planning to help the school progress. The implementation of the PLC process has helped the
teachers to gain an understanding of how valuable data collection and analysis can be for their
teaching practice. Looking at data also helps the school attain the yearly goals laid out by the district s
strategic plan. One of the first steps taken in developing a strategic plan for the school is to gather and
analyze data in order to find the school s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities for growth as well as
any threats to the progress of the school. Early in the year the strategic planning team will review
quantitative data collected from student achievement scores, attendance rates, discipline trends,
financial records, transportation reports, and so forth. Depending upon the specific issue addressed in
the planning process, these types of quantitative data serve to inform decision making processes. The
collection of qualitative data is also an integral part of best practices in development of a strategic
plan. Qualitative data collection includes use of surveys, focus groups, and interviews with key
stakeholder groups. It is important and useful to

Shadow Of The Truth Persuasive Speech
In 2016, Donald Trump was elected president of the United States, and he went into the office in
January 2017. In a year, he has turned America against him. He is the most unpopular president
American has ever seen. At a year only 39% approve of Donald Trump and what he is doing makes
him the lowest in approval rating ever seen. This is because he had the lowest approval rating when he
came into office in January of 2017. John Cole has been a political cartoonist for the Time Tribune
since April of 2005. In the political cartoon Shadow of the Truth demonstrates how Donald Trump
declares he is not a racist, but he turns around and says something or post something on social media
that is racist. The first thing that caught my eye was the shadow of Trump which was a silhouette of
the Ku Klux Klan also known as the KKK. Cole references the KKK by using the silhouette of what
their outline looked like. He made the silhouette s hand look like what Trump was doing with his
hand. That is how we know that the silhouette is supposed to represent Trump. ... Show more content

How to Create Suspense and Tension
How to Create Suspense and Tension Literary suspense and tension are essential elements in any story,
both in fiction and some genres of non fiction. Several elements are needed to create and maintain the
suspense in a piece of writing, such as the reader s concern and empathy, looming danger, and
building of tension throughout the story. Each element plays an important role and is a necessary part
of a well devised plot. Suspense and tension begin and end with the character. The reader must first
know what the main character desires, which means the writer must supply this information from the
start. Does the main character need adventure, romance, freedom? What is holding him back from
reaching what he desires, and what are the consequences if he cannot reach his goal? Both internal and
external conflict is required, and suspense can only build when the character s physical, psychological,
spiritual, relational, and/or emotional wellness is threatened. After these key points are established, a
foundation can be laid for suspense and tension. One way of maintaining tension is saying no to your
character. Whatever he wants, continue to withhold it from him. Gratification releases tension rather
than building it. Constant change feeds tension. New challenges, new information, and more
complications drive tension, keeping the reader invested in the character s plight. Immediate
explanation isn t necessary when adding these unexpected changes. Those details can be added

various sources such as academic journal, e books, corporate annual report and library sources related
to the research topic, online purchase behavior of consumers. The primary data was collected by using
the quantitative research method. This method involves usage of numbers and statistical techniques to
measure and identify underlying patterns. Researcher s personal involvement is required and the
results obtained can be used by other studying the same field (King et al., 1994). Quantitative methods
assume that behavioral patterns can be described with the help of objective facts and therefore holds a

Safety is, the condition of being protected from or unlikely to cause danger, risk, or injury ( Dictionary

teacher caught a 14 year old girl smoking a cigarette in the bathroom. This led the teacher to send the

On account of lockers being the school s property it is legal for them to search them at any time under
the right circumstances.
With the use of proper search and seizure guidelines, schools are allowed to search students lockers
without a warrant. Lockers and backpacks are subject to search with reasonable suspicion. To search a
locker, a school staff member or police officer would have to have reasonable suspicion, probable
cause, and student consent in some cases (Ehlenberger). For reasonable suspicion to occur, the search
would be justified at its inception, meaning that there are reasonable grounds for suspecting that the
search will reveal evidence that the student has violated or is violating the law or school rules, and the
search is reasonably related in scope to the circumstances that justified the search, meaning that the
measures used to conduct the search are reasonably related to the objectives of the search and that the
search is not excessively intrusive in light of the student s age and sex and the nature of the offense
(Ehlenberger). Probable cause to search is when known facts and circumstances are sufficient to
warrant a man of reasonable prudence in the belief that contraband will be found (Ornelas v. United

Why Does Priestley Use The Inspector To Convey His Own...
An Inspector Calls
How does Priestley use the character of the Inspector to convey his own opinions and attitudes?
An Inspector Calls, set in 1912, is a play with many social and political messages. J. B. Priestley
believed a great deal in socialism and believed that many other people needed to be more caring about
their community and the people in it. Priestley uses the character of the Inspector to convey his own
thoughts, feelings and opinions about social issues. However, he also uses other characters,
particularly Mr.Birling, to show the audience how cynical some people can be.
It is possible that J.B.Priestley set this play in 1912 for a reason. Arthur Birling is a rich businessman
who thinks very highly of himself, even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This tactic could have been to ensure that his viewers continued to think about the story and hence
would also have to think about the issues of Socialism and this is something which he was desperate
to do.
The Inspector s aim in the play is to change thoughts and opinions of the Birling family and the
audience viewing. One of the ways he attempts to do this is by questioning each one of the Birling s in
turn. The Inspector firsts interrogates Mr.Birling, asking him why he dismissed Eva Smith from her
job at his factory, just for asking for more money.
Birling was surprised at being questioned, so it seems that what he says is usually accepted as correct.
His surprise could also be because of exactly what the Inspector was questioning. Birling says that it is
his duty to keep labour costs down which indicates that he does not think of each worker as a person
and cares a great deal about money. The fact that he did not recognise the name Eva Smith even
though she was someone he dealt with directly and a worker who stood out, further shows that he does
not think of his employees as people. To him they are nameless and have no individuality.
Priestley has done this to make audience members realize that even if a person has a very minor job,
or is poorer than most, they still deserve to be treated with respect.
The Inspector recognises early on that Sheila

Drag Queen Analysis
Drag queens have spent years performing for themselves and for many other people. Their shows
today are a way to express themselves and make people question what they know about gender and
sexuality. Rupp and Taylor in their book, Drag Queens at the 801 Cabaret discuss this subject in detail,
calling their performances a form of protest. They question the roles that society has put them into,
and in turn provoke their audiences to question these things, such as gender and sexuality. This type of
social protest is called subversion. Through this book, we can more specifically look at two types of
subversion that played a major role in the 801 drag queen s performances. The first, and most obvious,
is the idea of masculinity versus femininity, and how the Queens use different techniques to break free
from the traditional way of thinking about these concepts. The second is the overt way that the Queens
portray sex and sexuality, in ways that are impossible for the audience to ignore. Both these types of
subversion have an overarching theme of crossing boundaries, whether over the division of the gender
binary, or the limits of what is socially acceptable to talk about regarding sex. Drag queens envelop
the audience and take many of them out of their comfort zone.
What it means to be feminine and masculine in our society has been drilled into each and every one of
us since birth. Men are taught to act a certain way, so as to be the breadwinners and protectors of
women. Women

Branson Reeve s development has been consistent and on track for his age. His intelligence level is
exceedingly advanced, especially in the areas of math and science. In addition, his cognitive abilities

The Leonardo de Vinci used oils to paint his picture. During the 15th century using oils was very
common. By using oils Leonardo was able to create a real lifelike painting. Since the oils dry slowly

You can see that the painting seems to be made up of three triangles. Mona Lisa being the biggest then
the left top corner is the background and the top right corner, a continuation of the background. From
what we ve read he designed this painting in an upright triangular composition. However, these two
backgrounds seem to not be part of the same landscape. The left top corner seems more shaded, and
darker. Also the winding road I feel might symbolize troublesomeness, or decisions. Where as, the
right top side of the background is a little lighter in color and the path seems clear and straight. By
positioning the Mona Lisa the way Leonardo did creates balance within the painting. He also did a
wonderful job on the symmetry of her face and of the painting, between the objects in the painting and
the color used its self.
You can see that when viewing a painting like this there are many questions that arise in your mind.
Looking at the Mona Lisa I get drawn in and a sense of wonderment comes over me. I start to imagine
the person in the painting and what her smile was really about. A strong, confident women is what I
think she was, and that was brought out beautifully by de Vinci. I also think that the way he painted
the Mona Lisa shows a lot about what and how Leonardo viewed women. Many say that it was
painted for the love of his mother. What do you

Nursing Timeline
Historical Development of Nursing Timeline Historical Development of Nursing Timeline The 19th
century marked the beginning of professional nursing. Florence Nightingale was the legend behind it
as she began the struggle of nurses being recognized as professionals. It is hard to believe that nurses
were once assigned to the job as a sentence for crimes committed or for the women who were too old
or sick to hold conventional jobs. Nightingale s focus included infection control, documentation,
patient safety, confidentiality, and evidence based practice, which seems common place today, but was
very forward thinking for that period. The era of Florence Nightingale is just the beginning of the
timeline of significant events and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Barrett (2002) believes knowledge is the focus of nursing science rather on theory or
research. George (2011) explains the relationship between theory, research, and practice influence
each other in a circular way. In other words, research and theory are not based on hierarchy, but rather,
practice is based on theories that are supported through research. To that end, research and theory are
not the only disciplines that have influenced nursing throughout the ages. Interdisciplinary influences
on the science of nursing Many influences affect the science of nursing, such as philosophy, religion,
education, anthropology, social sciences, and psychology, as we will briefly discuss here. Holt and
Clarke (2000) surmise philosophical method can be useful because it requires careful analysis of
words, concepts, arguments and claims and therefore by definition demands and develops critical
thinking. All of these essential elements of philosophy are used as nursing requires the ability to
analyze and evaluate patients and provide care based on the best existing plan of care. Religion was
once deeply rooted in nursing and was seen as a ministry to Christ. Religious ties may not be so
obvious in nursing today, however, the focus on holistic and spiritual care reminds us the Christian
influence has not been erased completely. Holistic and spiritual care are terms widely used currently
and are an essential part of the nursing

Essay On Why I Want To Attend College
Like many immigrants, my parents moved to Canada, from China, in order to give me a better life,
and lessen the burden on my future by providing me with better opportunities. As the oldest child in
my family, I will be the first to attend university. I received an early admission to McGill University
for their Bachelor of Science program; I will be majoring in either biochemistry, physiology, or
psychology. My aspirations at McGill University stems from its top medical doctorate programs, its
intensive focus on research, and the overall liberal and accepting belief aura of the school. Although,
my parents are able to somewhat support me through my bachelor s degree, however, they are also
sponsoring an international student, who is my cousin on my dad s side. Because my extended ...

I saved all of my earnings from my summer internship, part time job, and other small awards in order
to cover my tuition and living expenses. By the time I attend university, I will have saved a portion of
my first year s tuition. Therefore, I am seeking aid for the portion of the expenses that I could not
cover on my own, especially residence and living costs. Receiving this scholarship will allow me to
focus on my studies, as well, take away the financial burden on my parents. As a young child, I always
valued independence and feared being a burden to those around me, especially those that I care for.
During my education, I will continue to seek opportunities for summer internships in my field of study
to finance my second year s tuition, at the same time I will focus on my courses as they are my top
priorities. Thank you for taking the time to read my application and to consider me for this
scholarship. Through my future ambitions, I aim to uphold the values of Mr. and Mrs. Van den Brink
as well as those of other esteemed McGill alumni, and make a lasting impact on the science

  • 2. The American Dream In Jon Krakauer s Into The Wild The major tenets of the quintessential American dream can be found in the ideology of every person proud to be an American. The America seen today is not the same as it was 50 years prior, so how can one expect the central dream to be the same? In fact, each person has developed an opinion on what the American dream may mean for him/her. For one, the dream may still be the white picket fence still life from so many years ago, but for another, it may be the accumulation of riches and fame. In Jon Krakauer s Into the Wild, he shows us that Chris McCandless cared not for the quotidian rat race he had grown so accustomed to, but more for the intricacies that the natural world had to offer. I believe that although Chris McCandless may not have made it out of Alaska alive, he still succeeded in discovering what he went there for, and in turn died fulfilling his own American dream. The dictionary defines the American dream as the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity traditionally held to be available to every American. Chris McCandless came from a wealthy family with everything he could ever need being provided for him. His parents had achieved the conventional American dream. They had enough money to provide for their family and then some, a nice home, and a good education for the whole family. • 3. Justice In Ancient Civilizations Since the beginning of time, society imposes us different rules of etiquettes that we need to follow. Keep your mouth close while eating, be polite with older people, hold the door for ladies etc... These are actual ones but its interesting to see the evolution of the etiquette through time. At a certain point in the middle age, it was convenable to burp as loudly as you can after eating to show your host that the food was good. In fact, the rules of etiquettes are strongly linked with social values like respect. Other social values were really important in ancient civilizations. Despite the lack of organisation of their societies, justice and religion were concerns for every leader of these civilizations. In this argumentative essay, I will ... Ancient Egypt has their book of the dead, Ancient Mesopotamia their Hammurabi s code and ancient Hittites had a pretty similar book of law created by using Hammurabi s code has a base . It s interesting how these texts are advanced for the time they were written. Has a leader, you need a way to spread these ideas through all the civilization. They did it without printers or social network, this is pretty impressive. Some surprising policies have been made following this justice concept. For example, Eye for an eye law was made by Mesopotamians to penalized the criminal by doing him the same thing he did or something equivalent. In our modern society, we would think this is horrible and this practice would be forbidden but in these times, it s a way to increase justice and make their world more equal. Moreover, using a strong military system, Greek civilizations like Sparta have a justice system based on their military order. Some could say that this is not justice because there is not really an establish system but the will to regulate activities of the population is a form of justice for me. It was clear that, as Mikhail Gorbachev himself said the night before being appointed the head of the Communist Party, We can t go on living like this (Gaddis, 229). Mikhail Gorbachev was a relatively young and educated leader, ready to change the USSR for the better. But it is here attempting to juggle his new social reform policies and his desire to stay in power that Gorbachev stumbled. Hence, the 1989 revolutions occurred whereby communism rule ended in Eastern Europe. The revolutionary feeling quickly spread to Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria and Romania and by the end of 1989, the Soviets had lost all control and influence over their Eastern Europe satellites. Thus, it is understandable why many in the USSR perceived this as a weakness and blamed Gorbachev. Furthermore, as the free flow of information continued and new freedoms allowed people within the Soviet Union to explore their cultural identity in a political context, republics within the USSR started to push for independence too. Gorbachev s power was diminishing, accelerated by the rising popularity of Russian nationalist Boris Yeltsin and other political opponents. In performing the proper experimentation, we poured some of the methylene blue substrate in a piece of paper, for ease transport towards the agar plates. We performed it cautiously by not inhaling it, for it is a form of powder. We carefully place the substrate at the center of the agar plates, to ensure that is that there is enough space for diffusion to take place. After the moment we placed the substrate, we carefully placed a transparent ruler under the plate to measure the diameter of the substrate in 0 minutes. We carefully note the time, having a 15 minute interval and record the changes in the diameter of the substrate. We continued it, until we have an hour observation. After gathering all the data, we solved for the rate of diffusion of each using the formula. Rate= Final diameter Initial diameter Time After finishing the Methylene blue experiment, we followed the same procedure to Potassium Permanganate. Each group presented the result to the white board, so that we can compare the results. We kept a record of the results and have a short conversation with our group mates in interpreting the results of the conducted experiment. Towards the end, we throw the agar gel to the trash can, clean the petri dish, tighten the bottles and clean the tables where we performed the experiment.

Palm Oil Growth And Sustainability Palm Oil Growth in Peru Slows as Land Suitability and Sustainability Take Top Priority Palm is a tree crop suited to cultivation in climatic conditions similar to those of the tropical rainforest. From 1999 to 2009, global production more than doubled. Thirty years ago, palm oil accounted for less than 2 percent but now accounts for 37 percent of vegetable oil consumption worldwide, and palm has displaced soy as the world s most important vegetable oil. Palm oil is used as a biofuel, for cooking, and in a wide range of other items, including food products, cosmetics, soaps and detergents. Malaysia and Indonesia produce 85 percent of the world s palm oil. Expansion in these two countries is expected to diminish by 2022, however, as land suitable for additional palm oil production dwindles. As an alternative, developers are looking to other regions for expansion, including Latin America. Estimates suggest that Peru has the second largest area potentially suitable for increased oil palm production within this region. Area Expansion In 2003, the Peruvian government announced that the production of biofuels, including palm oil, would be a priority. Before 2006, palm expansion in Peru was slow and occurred mainly on already cleared land (mostly pastures and secondary growth forests, as opposed to old growth forests.) Between 2006 and 2010, however, area doubled, and about 70 percent of all new palm plantations during this time were established by old growth clearing. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Yellow Wallpaper is about Jane , who is suffering from postpartum depression, but doctors misdiagnosis it as hysteria and prescribes perfect bed rest and isolation. She is staying in a bedroom which has yellow wallpaper. Many studies have looked into the physical impacts of participating in boxing and have found that the risks may not be worth the reward, but when compared to other sports, boxing is relatively similar in violent nature. Between 1945 and 1981, 339 individuals died while partaking in the sport of boxing (Cohen, 1984). When looking at boxers head scans, 41% of athletes had anomalies in the brain, where in other sports, only 14% of athletes had brain anomalies (Cohen, 1984). Boxers all scored lower in intelligence tests compared to other athletes (Cohen, 1984). The main question being extrapolated from this evidence, is how can society continue to allow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This concept is commonly introduced to sport because many times boxers do not have the mental capacity, age, or competence to consent to boxing, therefore many believe that a paternalistic figure needs to assist with decision making. One would believe, in this case that the law should interfere for the good of the persons involved, in a way that it acts to ensure that there are health warnings on cigarette packages (Davis, 1993, p.49). To further discuss this notion, discourses surrounding paternalism need to be examined in consideration to boxing. Paternalism is defined as the interference of liberty for what is believed to be for the own good of the individual. This interventionism looks out for the safety of both boxers and the community and therefore looks out for the better good of the community as a communitivistic approach. An athletes community, meaning the people who surround the sport of boxing, can takeover in cases where it feels like everyone is being harmed in some sense of the word. The reason why communities believe that boxing is worse off than other violent sports is because of its inherently violent nature. Sports such as football, and hockey do not base their fundamental sporting rules around violence. As boxing is a largely viewed sport, this inherent violence can be familiarized with the audience as an act that is okay and acceptable, illustrating that children and adults will walk out of the match thinking that violence is morally justified. As boxing is so adamantly available to the public, on television and in the ring; it can prescribe an attitude of unsafe behavior and growing norms surrounding the acceptance of violence in general, not pertaining to sport. This point proves that individuals are very intertwined with community and traditional ways that free ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theodicy is defined as the many different views on the existence of evil, but we must go more in depth in order to correctly define what is good and bad. In the past three years that Mrs. Williams has been principal of this school she has brought a strong focus onto using data to make appropriate instructional decisions as well as execute strategic planning to help the school progress. The implementation of the PLC process has helped the teachers to gain an understanding of how valuable data collection and analysis can be for their teaching practice. Looking at data also helps the school attain the yearly goals laid out by the district s strategic plan. One of the first steps taken in developing a strategic plan for the school is to gather and analyze data in order to find the school s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities for growth as well as any threats to the progress of the school. Early in the year the strategic planning team will review quantitative data collected from student achievement scores, attendance rates, discipline trends, financial records, transportation reports, and so forth. Depending upon the specific issue addressed in the planning process, these types of quantitative data serve to inform decision making processes. The collection of qualitative data is also an integral part of best practices in development of a strategic plan. • 32. How to Create Suspense and Tension How to Create Suspense and Tension Literary suspense and tension are essential elements in any story, both in fiction and some genres of non fiction. Several elements are needed to create and maintain the suspense in a piece of writing, such as the reader s concern and empathy, looming danger, and building of tension throughout the story. Each element plays an important role and is a necessary part of a well devised plot. Suspense and tension begin and end with the character. The reader must first know what the main character desires, which means the writer must supply this information from the start. Does the main character need adventure, romance, freedom? What is holding him back from reaching what he desires, and what are the consequences if he cannot reach his goal? Both internal and external conflict is required, and suspense can only build when the character s physical, psychological, spiritual, relational, and/or emotional wellness is threatened. After these key points are established, a foundation can be laid for suspense and tension. One way of maintaining tension is saying no to your character. Whatever he wants, continue to withhold it from him. Gratification releases tension rather than building it. Constant change feeds tension. New challenges, new information, and more complications drive tension, keeping the reader invested in the character s plight. Immediate explanation isn t necessary when adding these unexpected changes. Those details can be added ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An Inspector Calls, set in 1912, is a play with many social and political messages. J. B. Priestley believed a great deal in socialism and believed that many other people needed to be more caring about their community and the people in it. Priestley uses the character of the Inspector to convey his own thoughts, feelings and opinions about social issues. However, he also uses other characters, particularly Mr.Birling, to show the audience how cynical some people can be. It is possible that J.B.Priestley set this play in 1912 for a reason. One of the ways he attempts to do this is by questioning each one of the Birling s in turn. The Inspector firsts interrogates Mr.Birling, asking him why he dismissed Eva Smith from her job at his factory, just for asking for more money. Birling was surprised at being questioned, so it seems that what he says is usually accepted as correct. His surprise could also be because of exactly what the Inspector was questioning. Birling says that it is his duty to keep labour costs down which indicates that he does not think of each worker as a person and cares a great deal about money. The fact that he did not recognise the name Eva Smith even though she was someone he dealt with directly and a worker who stood out, further shows that he does not think of his employees as people. To him they are nameless and have no individuality. Their shows today are a way to express themselves and make people question what they know about gender and sexuality. Rupp and Taylor in their book, Drag Queens at the 801 Cabaret discuss this subject in detail, calling their performances a form of protest. They question the roles that society has put them into, and in turn provoke their audiences to question these things, such as gender and sexuality. This type of social protest is called subversion. Through this book, we can more specifically look at two types of subversion that played a major role in the 801 drag queen s performances. The first, and most obvious, is the idea of masculinity versus femininity, and how the Queens use different techniques to break free from the traditional way of thinking about these concepts. The second is the overt way that the Queens portray sex and sexuality, in ways that are impossible for the audience to ignore. Both these types of subversion have an overarching theme of crossing boundaries, whether over the division of the gender binary, or the limits of what is socially acceptable to talk about regarding sex. Drag queens envelop the audience and take many of them out of their comfort zone. What it means to be feminine and masculine in our society has been drilled into each and every one of us since birth. Interdisciplinary influences on the science of nursing Many influences affect the science of nursing, such as philosophy, religion, education, anthropology, social sciences, and psychology, as we will briefly discuss here.
