What Role Does Self Sufficiency Play In Literature
Self sufficiency plays the biggest role in influencing the characters in the books we have read this year
because they use self sufficiency as a survival tactic. The Glass Castle most clearly exemplifies the
idea that the kids in the book use self sufficiency as a way to survive, because if they didn t they
wouldn t survive. There are also some examples of it in the other two books we ve read like The
House On Mango Street, and To Kill A Mockingbird.
Brian and I became expert forgers. We picked crab apples and wild blackberries and pawpaws during
the summer and fall, and we swiped ears of corn from old man Wilson s farm (Walls 172). Janette, and
her brother Brian, characters from The Glass Castle, had to fend for themselves literally

Theme Of Love In Frankenstein
Throughout the novel, Frankenstein, many of the characters show the love that they have for each
other. It seemed as though love was one of the main aspects in the book and what seemed to hold a lot
of relationships together. Of course it is known for a mother or a father to love their children, but just
as they love their children, it is understood that they love each other just as much. Just how Victor
loved Elizabeth with what seemed to be every breath he took, and the monster loved Victor because
that was he creator, his father figure. No matter the pain that love may bring, it will always be one of
the main aspects of life.
Earlier in the novel, Victor states, Elizabeth had caught the scarlet fever; but her illness was not
severe, and she quickly recovered. During her confinement, many arguments had been urged to
persuade my mother to refrain from attending upon her. (...), she could no longer debar herself from
society, and entered her chamber longer debar herself from her society, and entered her chamber long
before the danger of the infection was passed. The consequences of this imprudence were fatal
(Shelley, 25). The mother was one of the first to show that the love of a guardian is one that should be
cherished because the actions will show much louder than words. Caroline would not sleep knowing
that her child was sick and the sickness could possibly kill her. The mother had soon gotten sick, but
she was not as fortunate as Elizabeth. A mother s love is a love that

Neuromancer And The Matrix Analysis
William Gibson s Neuromancer, and The Matrix by The Wachowskis both depict a society in which
humans are under constant manipulation by indispensable machines. In Neuromancer, the protagonist
Case is indirectly manipulated by a powerful Artificial Intelligence named Wintermute. In The Matrix,
majority of the human population lives within a computer simulated world, run by machines.
However, both storylines depict the fact that manipulation is more abundant than is often seen, as both
protagonists are more frequently under the influence of other humans. Neuromancer and The Matrix
both demonstrate the nature of manipulation, and explore the fact that individuals are oblivious to the
manipulation that they face.
Manipulation is ubiquitous. Throughout the movie, the Matrix is presented to the audience as the as
the only source of manipulation, What is the Matrix? Control (The Matrix). The perspective shown to
the audience implies that the robots are the only manipulative force present within this society.
Morpheus introduces Neo to the concept of the Matrix, by saying You are a slave, Neo (The Matrix)
and further explaining it as A prison for your mind (The Matrix). However, even once Neo has been
freed from the matrix, he remains susceptible. Neo is constantly being manipulated by both the Oracle
and Morpheus. The oracle is able to manipulate Neo into saving Morpheus by telling him he was not

Antonio Tony Tony Montana
Antonio Tony Montana was born in Cuba on May 5, 1996, to a Cuban mother and an American father.
The marriage produced two children, Antonio and Gina, his little sister. Tony recalled having a pretty
good relationship with his father, who taught him English and took him to American films where he
saw such big stars as Humphrey Bogart. While Tony s father had a good relation with his kids, he did
not have an ideal relationship as a husband and head of the household. One day Tony s father
abandoned his family, so Mrs. Montana raises Tony and Gina alone. However, Tony proves somewhat
a copycat of his father, abandoning them 5 years. It was later explained that one reason for the
estragment was that Tony had admired the Cuban gangsters, who often

Reform Movements of the Late 1800s
American society began to change in the late 1800s with movements like the Grange and Alliance.
These reform movements resulted in a new idea of populism reformation in the interest of the farmer.
The late 1800s in American society gave way to challenges like the farmers role in society, railroad
regulation for crop transportation, and economic problems about coinage that created discontent
among the American farmers; culminating in the Populist movement were reform efforts like Munn
vs. Illinois and the Sherman Silver Purchase Act of 1890. The Populist movement arose with a sense
for farmers of where they belonged. Many farmers believed that they were not getting enough credit
for what they do for society. Doctors take care of America s health and bankers take care of America s
money. Farmers began to advocate the fact that they feed all of America (Document A). This evolved
into a platform for the newly formed Populist Party. Moreover, racism seemed to arise in a whole new
manner. It was essentially holding America back both economically and politically. America, by the
farmers point of view, needed to focus on the economic problems that the whole country was facing
(Document B). Due to this everyone needs to work together attitude, farmers created the National
Colored Farmers Alliance. Farmers began to reform society to show their role in society.
Transportation of their crops through railroads was a large challenge creating discontent among the
American farmers.

Marine Corps Boot Camp
I thought completing Marine Corps boot camp was my most cherished accomplishment, completing
boot camp merely stood in the shadows of my last work up for my last deployment. I was holding the
Bravo Squad Leader position. At this point in my Marine Corps career I obtained three combat
oriented M.O.S. or jobs; however, there was little to no preparation for what I got myself into. There
are two culminating events at what we call Combined Arms Exercise or CAX, the first one is solely
for the Alpha squad leader in every platoon and the last is for the entire company of Marines which
consist of about 200. Again I was no stranger to leading people because I was also a Martial Arts
Instructor for the Marine Corps, but it was still not enough. Fox 10 Alpha is the range that honestly
and humbly tested my grit and my mental capacity. This range, designed to test 8 year experienced
veterans, consisted of the platoon firing 25 mm cannons, 81 mm mortars, and 8 machine guns over our
heads while we overtake and clear three critically complicated bunkers with live ammunitions. By no

Lean Construction And The Construction Process
The idea of Lean construction when properly implemented, it becomes the centerpiece for all steps in
the construction process. According to the figure above, Lean construction is the most important part
of the process, all steps must keep in mind that value needs to be maximized and waste needs to be
minimized (Mayer Construction). From lean design, that includes the concepts, process, and products
to the supply and fabrication, all these pieces build up to the principles of Lean construction. Lean
design then leads to the supply aspect, where they make sure to just order the proper amount needed
with the goal in mind, to not make waste (Mayer Construction). The planning process outlines all of
these pieces in Lean construction. Once they get the supply than the construction begins, during this
step than they need to make sure to be time efficient, like previously stated, sometimes construction
workers are believed to be lazy but when they maximize their efficiency within lean construction the
negative beliefs will probably dissipate along with the time wasted. With detailed, scheduled planning
all the steps are previously stated and the parties know automatically what is going on (Mayer
Construction). Lean Construction Advantages There are many great advantages to Lean construction,
some include using the fewest amount of material and having the least amount of waste that can create
profit and more important, cut costs. Lean construction is not about money at all, but

Smoking Essay
When you quit smoking your heart rate and blood pressure, restore back to normal.
At least within an hour the carbon monoxide leaves your blood and it allows you blood to carry more
oxygen when within a weeks time your circulation improves majorly. Then the work that usually
happens decreases and the cardiac function is higher. Then once you have recovered you can smell
and breath. Then within months you probably will feel so much better and you can see the
improvements in all the functions of your lungs. Then in almost five years many kind of cancers
including lung, larynx, mouth, stomach, cervix, bladder, will all show decrease in the risk. Years after

Since the 1960s, a smoker s risk of developing lung cancer or COPD has actually increased compared
with nonsmokers, even though the number of cigarettes consumed per smoker has decreased. Of the
more than 7,000 chemicals in tobacco smoke, at least 250 are known to be harmful, including
hydrogen cyanide, carbon monoxide, and ammonia.
Just like how drugs an effect on you, smoking has the same effects. It changes your brain.
It would not be too late to stop at the age of thirty, because it lowers the chance of dying. When you
get older the higher chance you will likely die.
Quickly the counter smoking biased people will demand that they are not so much intolerant, in light
of the fact that smokers should be rebuffed.

DQ 1: Summarize the most important benefits and risks associated with diversification into global
markets.
There are benefits and there are risks associated with diversification into global markets.
Diversification into global markets means a company is seeking to have the control in one central area
instead of in many different areas because ultimately they are seeking to control their costs. The main
advantage of a global market is that a company does not need to make a lot of variations of a product.
They can instead just make one quality standardized product, which means it is easier for the company
to keep everyone on the same page in regard to any changes or innovations to their products.

Essay on Chipotle Balanced Scorecard
Chipotle The Chipotle Mexican Grille opened its first store in 1993 beginning a new category in the
restaurant industry known as fast casual (About Us, 2014). This new category featured the highest
quality raw ingredients, classic cooking methods, and distinctive interior design features that are more
frequently found in the world of fine dining. However, aside from the normally long wait in lines, an
order could be taken and served in only a couple minutes. Currently Chipotle operates more than
1,500 restaurants internationally. The following pages will present a balanced approach to the

Operations To date all restaurants are company owned and not franchised. Restaurants cover forty
three states in the U.S., Canada, England, and France. The only variation to the original model has
been an increased environmental awareness and a Test Restaurant in Washington D.C. that serves
Asian Style fast casual food. Strategy Reading through the annual reports Chipotle s strategy is
comprised of four components: 1. To increase consumer awareness with regards to the importance and
benefits of consuming naturally raised produce. 2. To vigorously seek out expansion into the European
markets. 3. To continue to grow and foster new relationships with food suppliers. 4. To continue
incurring only minimal amounts of expenses relating to marketing and other advertising expenses.
Financial Analysis Fast food is known for low quality and low prices. Alternatively, the dine in
experience offers high quality with a higher price. Some restaurants seek a low cost dine in experience
but this is done with a deteriorated food quality. Therefore, it would make sense that Chipotle s
philosophy of high quality has a hard time maintaining a low price. Chipotle makes this work by
charging slightly higher prices than fast food. Customers are willing to pay this because of the
differentiations Chipotle offers but how does this translate overall financially? One key aspect for
Chipotle is their ability to cover debt. They maintain very liquid assets to cover the costs of

Essay about High Stakes Testing
High Stakes Testing
In 1997, President Bill Clinton stated that the United States needed, a national crusade for education
standards not federal government standards, but national standards, representing what all our students
must know to succeed in the knowledge economy of the twenty first century
(http://books.nap.edu/books/0309062802/html/13.html). The way to succeed in this journey is through
standardized testing that results in consequences for teachers and students.
Throughout this paper, I will be discussing how important high stakes testing is to our country. First, I
will show how these tests prevent students from moving on to the next grade level or graduate without
the skills necessary. Secondly, I will discuss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Out of 91,000 students tested overall, almost 26,000 failed. After summer school, 15 percent, 13
percent, and 8 percent of students were retained at the three grade levels (Chicago Public Schools,
1998a)(http://books.nap.edu/books/0309062802/html/116.html).
High stakes testing also improves students achievement. Eugene Watts, Ohio s State Senator, discusses
a new exam that will be required for high school graduation starting in September of 2004. It is a
tribute to the process we have established that Ohio was one of only three states to receive a grade of
A by the Fordman Foundation in its appraisal of math standards in 1998. Ohio s model math standards
also have the highest rating by the American Federation of Teachers and a grade of B+ for the level of
rigor in a review of state standards in 1998 by the Council of Basic Education. Before proficiency
testing, Ohio schools were graduating students with second grade math skills and fourth grade reading
levels (http://www.enc.org/topics/ assessment/testing/document.shtm?input=FOC 001574 index). The
students of Ohio were given a challenge, and they not only lived up to the standards, they surpassed
them! This is the kind of attitude all students need to have towards school, and high stakes testing is
just the incentive they need. The AIMS test in Arizona will be required to graduate in the year 2008,
and the Arizona Department of Education feels that

The Between Cressida And Troilus And Cressida Essay
PANDARUS [...] Have you any eyes? Do you know what a man is? Is not birth, beauty, good shape,
discourse, manhood, learning, gentleness, virtue, youth, liberality, and so forth the spice and salt that
seasons a man?
CRESSIDAAy, a minced man... (1.2.231 236)
This conversation between Cressida and Pandarus demonstrates the representation of masculinity in
both Coriolanus and Troilus and Cressida. Each of them is concerned with ideas of honour and
military prowess in relation to the male identity, drawing on the masculine ideals of Roman antiquity a
prominent notion during the early modern period as is evident in Pandarus notions of what a man is .
Shakespeare does not, however, endorse these notions in the plays; his handling of the subject is
reminiscent more of Cressida s response in this passage, suggesting that the same qualities which
make a man can also effeminize him. This essay will examine how this paradoxical nature of
manhood and its arbitrary relations to honour and women are exposed in the plays.
In the world of Coriolanus, violent and aggressive masculinity is set on a pedestal by the people of
Rome. This is evident in Volumnia s attitude towards raising children applauding wounds Coriolanus
has received in battle and even going as far as saying that
The breasts of Hecuba,
When she did suckle Hector, looked not lovelier
Than Hector s forehead when it spit forth blood
At Grecian sword, contemning. (1.3.37 40)

country. Highlighting the extensive efforts of the country to effectively respond to the attack of 9/11.
Emphasizing the billions of dollars that the government has poured into new technology and agencies
that can better prepare for biological terrorist attacks. Brill captured the attention of many readers
when expressing that terrorism cannot be stopped because it s constantly evolving. He feels that the
government should come up with rational ideas that can deal with the ever changing terrorism threat
instead of creating policies off of current headlines that dominates the day. Brill talks about different
threats and scenarios that go unnoticed by the government. He uses a report that does a scenario which

Examples Of Dishonesty In Othello
Honesty and dishonesty are two of the most important features in Othello. Even though there is a
small amount of honesty that is truly present throughout the play this is applied to the character Iago,
who also strikes as the most dishonest in Othello. This is partly because the other characters seem so
trust writhing in each other. That they never think someone so close and dear to them would deceive
them. Which makes Iago capable of influencing, brainwashing, and molding the characters to his
satisfaction. That he needs for the dreadful revenge he has planed against Othello.

like, As honest as I am , As I am an honest man , and in the sincerity of love and honest kindness .
These are phrase Iago uses to mask his true feeling on individuals. In Act I scene I he tells Roderigo of
only how a fool acts honest and advises putting himself before honesty, which he does. The other
characters begin to see Iago as an honest trustworthy man, particularly Othello. He is a character that
holds people to there honest and he never thinks twice that someone would be dishonest with him.
Especially someone that is so close to him like Iago. Cassio has claimed that he has never met a
Florentine so sympathetic and honest that is defining Othello. Desdemona expresses to Iago s Wife
Emily that he is an honest man and that Othello feels his love and honesty doth the matter of Cassio s
his best man being fired. In deed, Othello even tells the governor of Venice that Iago is a true man of

Essay Nuclear Power
Nuclear Power In a world of ever increasing population there is a need to find a way to provide
electricity for the world. There many different ways that electricity can be produced but some of the
options are better suited for the Central Valley than others. The debate over Nuclear power has been
growing for years and it is now time to create a more reliable power source for the Central Valley.
Nuclear power should be considered to be a reliable source of power for the central valleys growing
population. Nuclear power has been around for many decades and has provided reliable power to the
American people. The first reactor that was used to provide electricity was on December 20 1951(US).
From that point on the industry has expanded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an easy and effective way to create electricity and can be used reliably without much cause for
concern. As seen in the diagram above the reactor in a nuclear facility is located inside of a building.
That building is created from reinforced cement and is made to hold the fuel in case of an emergency.
The opponents of nuclear power claim that nuclear power is not safe and it puts the general population
at risk of radiation. They point towards the Chernobyl accident as reason that nuclear power should
not be allowed. The Chernobyl accident happened in 1986 in the Ukraine and was devastating
(Chernobyl). The accident occurred during a test and By the time that the operator moved to shut
down the reactor, the reactor was in an extremely unstable condition (Chernobyl). The result was the
explosion of the reactor and the release of radioactive material into the environment. Yet another
example opponents point to would be the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant failure. At the plant
equipment malfunctions, design related problems and worker errors led to a partial meltdown of the
TMI 2 reactor core (backgrounder). This accident was the worst in the United States and caused a
review of nuclear power plants safety.
Opponents argue that another accident will happen and they do not want to go through another
accident like Three Mile Island or Chernobyl. Greenpeace has said that the use of nuclear power
would result in a

Good Faith Exception
Police officers, like the citizens they protect, can make mistakes. I do not believe that police officers
should be held liable for acting in good faith. According to the United States Supreme Court, per
Brinegar v. United States, because many situations which confront officers in the course of executing
their duties are more or less ambiguous, room must be allowed for some mistakes on their part. But
the mistakes must be those of reasonable men, acting on facts leading sensibly leading to their
conclusions of probability. (PoliceMag, 2007). The Fourth Amendment protects the citizens of the
United States from unreasonable searches and seizures. (U.S. Const. amend. IV). Over the course of
history, the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of protecting the police officers from any liability. My
focus will be on the good faith exception and the exigent circumstance.
The Good Faith Exception
First, the good faith exception protects law enforcement officers who had reasonable intentions, but
made mistakes with their actions. The Supreme Court first introduced the good faith exception in
United States v. Leon. The Court maintained that the exclusionary rule is not relevant in situation
when police officers act with reasonable dependence on a search warrant that later proves to be
invalid. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Exigent circumstances refer to positions that require instant action that allows people to evade usual
procedures. There are times when a police officer can act to make an arrest, seizure, or search for
which probably cause exists. Exigent circumstances excuse noncompliance when: a person s life is or
public safety is threatened, suspect(s) escape is imminent, or evidence is about to be removed or
destroyed. (U.S.Legal, n.d.). Examples of these situations include: a robbery in progress, sounds of
shot being fired, or a homicide occurring at a scene of the

Little Italy Research Paper
Little Italy is unique because it is no longer the ethnic enclave it was 115 years ago. When comparing
Little Italy to other ethnic neighborhoods, we can immediately see differences. In Chinatown, for
example, there are many Chinese restaurants, businesses, and structures scattered throughout the
neighborhood. In addition, many Chinese people can be found visiting, working, and even living in
the enclave. When you see these Chinese individuals, they are often speaking the Chinese language.
Little Italy, however, is quite different from Chinatown. Unlike Chinatown, Little Italy has lost its
ethnic flavor. While Little Italy was once a neighborhood thriving with a heavy Italian immigration
base, overtime it has lost its identity.
The rapid growth of industry in Chicago created many opportunities for unskilled labor. These

There are Indians, Mexicans, Asians and many others diverse businesses established in Little Italy.
Chicago is known for its diversity. In Chicago all sorts of food, clothing, and music reflect numerous
cultures. There are numerous ethnic enclaves that have put Chicago on the map for its diversity.
However, not every ethnic enclave is what it seems. Compared to most ethnic enclaves in Chicago,
Little Italy is no longer what it was 115 years ago. You will not find a Chinatown or a Paseo Boricua
atmosphere you will not see Italians you will not hear the language and you will not have much access
to authentic Italian foods. Little Italy is Italian in name only as it no longer fits the definition of an
ethnic enclave. Italians, like other immigrants living in enclaves, feel the need to celebrate their
culture and history. Although they no longer live in the area, many return in August to celebrate their
roots. Even though Little Italy is a mix of ethnic diversity, Italian Americans still share the sense of
cultural pride shared by other ethnic

The Jeweler s Daughters
The Jeweler s Daughters
Why won t he just die? Debora Clayton said when The Rev. Charles Spears, Rector of the Downtown
Church of Our Savior had finished saying The Litany at the Time of Death. Karl Frielingheisen, her
father, was curled up in the hospital bed, staring through the side rails with dull gray eyes. Two weeks
after an unsuccessful heart valve operation, he had drained his family and himself with his dying. The
priest took her arm and led her into the corridor. He can still hear you, he said quietly. The sixty year
old divorcee put her hands over her eyes, setting three enormous diamond rings ablaze in the ceiling
lights. I just want it over, she sobbed. Why don t you wait out here, Spears said, recognizing the
emotional exhaustion and guilt that so often torments the children of the dying. I ll sit with him for a
while. At ninety seven Karl Frielingheisen s face was as stern as a Roman portrait bust. Spears
wondered what those eyes saw now.
After the Second World War, Frielingheisen had emigrated from Germany and founded s successful
chain of jewelry stores just as shopping was moving to the new suburban malls. A believer in the
transformative power of advertising, he emblazoned his wives and two daughters with bracelets and
brooches and rings and earrings to show how jewelry could make money glow. The old man started,
as if he saw suddenly saw something terrible moving toward him. Karl? the priest asked. Wealth, like

The Isolation Of Women During The Victorian Era
1.This quote goes back to the concept of isolation and independence. Here just like in the beginning of
the book, Jane feels isolated and alone and feels like no one can help and ironically it is her cousins
who alienated her to begin with but now are bringing her in.
2. Another clear reference to gender equality and the lack of it as well as a comment on class roles.
Here Bronte shows the absurdity of gender restriction and attempts to shed light on the fact that
women during the Victorian era had no rights and were too restricted.

it pass round my shoulder: being so much lower of stature than he, I served both for his prop and
guide. (Bronte 520)
2. Reader, I married him. (Bronte 521).
1. This quote shows how while before Mr. Rochester used to lead Jane when Jane was metaphorically
blind and used to support her, the opposite has just happened and now Jane leads the actually blind
Mr. Rochester and supports him because now she is rich.
2. Bronte addresses the reader personally which signifies that something important is about to happen,
and it does. Jane and Mr. Rochester have switched roles. Jane now can see while now Rochester can t.
This perfect role reversal emphasizes how it is possible to reach gender equality and how someone
from a lower class can actually work their way up and get lucky and end up in a higher class while the

Poverty, A, And Education System, Police Brutality, Drugs...
Poverty, a faulty and inadequate education system, police brutality, drugs and violence are a few of the
issues that plague the community that raised me. At a very young age, I was exposed to all these social
issues and they have shaped and influenced who I am today. Being a victim to these issues, growing
up was not easy, but I always hoped that I could make a change. As a young Mexican American
woman, daughter of immigrant parents and victim to numerous social issues complicating my ability
to succeed, I was never sure how I would ever be able to accomplish anything, all I knew is that I
wanted to change my community for the better and to liberate it from oppression. Although I always
dreamed of making huge changes in community, I never knew how I would ever be able to change it
for the better.
Encouraged by my English teacher, one of the few teachers to ever talk to me about furthering my
education, I decided to apply to college during the fall of my senior year. I was reluctant to apply at
first because I was never able to envision myself being able to pursue a college education, as a high
school diploma was the highest educational level any of my family members ever obtained.
Throughout my entire life and time in school, I had never received any guidance on pursuing higher
education. In fact, I was completely unaware of the steps I needed to take to further my education.
Both my parents dropped out of school before the sixth grade, thus they could not provide any

Colonoscopy Research Paper
In the past two weeks, I ve had family death and family hospitalized which caused a great amount of
stress on me. My grandfather s oldest brother died a month before his birthday, October 26th. It left a
great deal of pain on my chest as I watched his grandchildren speak about him in ways I didn t know
was possible. Shortly before his death, my grandfather was hospitalized. I became accustomed to him
being hospitalized since it was something unordinary. I didn t expect this visit to be one of great
length, but as usual with visits like these, I was mistaken. September 30th was a usual day. I came
home from school, saw my grandparents and did my homework. Having little to no premonitions to
what would become of that night; I was in for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As someone who is concerned would do, my family and I asked multiple questions concerning the
surgical process. Doctors explained that my grandfather would be having a colonoscopy. A
colonoscopy is an exam used to detect changes or abnormalities in the large intestine. Through the
explanation of this surgery, my grandfather was not too fond of the process. But for his health, it was
necessary. After the surgery had taken place, his colon wasn t awake just yet because of the high
dosage of morphine the surgeons administered to him. The awakening of the colon is a tedious process
he went through. The nurses advised my grandmother and him that a liquid only diet would be the
only nutrients he could receive. Being my grandfather, he became curious of the wires attached to
him. This curiosity resulted in him wearing a nose tube that caused the liquid diet to terminate. A
change this sudden made his body weaker each day. Family members visited him and noticed his true
feelings weren t overtly displayed. My grandmother and mom became a little irritated with that he
wouldn t share how he truly felt to the nurses and doctors. During this time, my grandmother started to
come home during the day and a relative would stay until about six o clock until she returned. With
my uncle being the main person to stay with my grandfather, he no longer could stay at the hospital.

Band Aids
The Smallest of Things can Make a Big Difference
Although there are many types of inventions, I think that Band Aids have impacted the world today in
several different ways. Band Aids are adhesive strips with small fabric of gauze stuck in the middle so
that you could easily wrap around your wound or cut. They have been very helpful for minor injuries,
have easy applications, and without them, there would be more bacteria in the world. And for my
entire life, every time I had small injuries, I depended on Band Aids, and clearly, they are my hero.
First of all, Band Aids are helpful since they can protect injuries with coverage, in which this reduces
pain and exposure. When I was younger, I remembered that I tripped on ... Show more content on

Examples Of Paradoxes In Catch 22
In Catch 22, Heller makes light of World War II by adding humor in which characters are forced to
deal with illogical, paradoxical situations that make their life often times harder
Kuzel 7 than it already is in the Air Force. These paradoxes are seen throughout the novel, usually
accompanied by a superior officer using a rule known as Catch 22. Catch 22 is different from other
laws however, as there seem to be no set limits and is often described as a vague, convenient solution
for superior officers to use when their orders make no sense. This law often led to crueler, corrupt
leaders in the story s plotline. The first time the main character of the book is introduced to this
mysterious law is with Doc Daneeka in the hospital ward when he ... Show more content on

Milo s whole business seemed to contradict itself, because this concept of buying and selling to
himself worked and made him much wealth, even though it makes no sense to the reader. Heller is
embodying the Catch 22 ideology into Milo, along with symbolizing him as corruption. Milo
embodies the idea of the Catch 22 law through his business, where he buys new products and sells
them to himself in a different location to change the value of the product. The importance of Milo lies
in his success. He often tells people that they get a share of the profit. Everyone gets a share of the
profit according to him. This allows him to get away with terrible actions, such as bomb his own base,
and get away with it with the two colonels. This is also the reason many of the men continue to
support him even though they know he is corrupt. Later in the book, he appeals to the colonels and
pleases them to better his own situation. He talks to the colonel and uses many paradoxes and logic to
convince the colonel to not make him have to fly any more missions. Heller uses Milo to show
corruption throughout the book, like how he is exempt from flying more missions because he is a
monetary asset to them and the other men. The only logical way to explain how Milo s business works
is the theory of Catch 22. Heller wants Catch 22 to not be interpreted as a law, but rather as a theory
that explains paradoxes and situations that don t make sense. He suggests this

Developing Self-Awareness Is a Requirement for All...
Developing self awareness as a counsellor is considered central to many of the mainstream theoretical
approaches (Mcleod, 2009, p624). I will argue that without the development of self awareness neither
a trainee nor qualified counsellor can meet the core conditions set out in most theoretical approaches
to counselling, congruence, empathy and unconditional positive regard. I will also argue that
counselling trainees need to experience the role of client themselves before they can take others on the
same road to self discovery. To answer the benefits and difficulties of the counselling trainee
developing self awareness whilst practicing skills in triads I will argue the feedback received from
fellow peers can be very beneficial to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sanders (2011) argues that By talking about ourselves as honestly as we can in a safe environment and
listening to the feedback from others, we can check whether the view we have of ourselves is the one
received by others (Sanders, 2011, p61). Feedback not only raises our awareness to what we say but,
and perhaps more importantly, how we say it our non verbal communication. The influence of non
verbal communication on a clients view of their counsellor can be taught, but I was amazed at just
how unaware I was of my own body language. During my first few triads I could not control my
hands, eventually opting to sit on them which was perceived as uncomfortable and a result of my
nervousness. Receiving feedback gives us a chance to change and modify in order to communicate
more effectively (Tolan Lendrum, 1995, p30) and creates awareness of the importance of effective
communication when building a genuine relationship with your client. Receiving feedback can also
raise our awareness of the value of receiving genuine feedback itself, as well as a need to sensitively
communicate feedback to others. This also creates a greater sense of empathy toward others. Triads
also enable the trainee to receive feedback from a variety of different people, not just their tutor. The
diversity found within a training group will be reflected back to the trainee within feedback received.

Latane And Darley s Five Theories
According to Latané and Darley, there are five characteristics of emergencies that affect individuals
making them offer no help when other people are present. There is no correlation between the number
of bystanders and the probability of helping others (Slater 90). There are several variables that lead to
this phenomenon. They include ambiguity, cohesiveness, and diffusion of responsibility. Latané and
Darley described these emergencies as the primary cause of the five stages of helping behavior. There
are few positive rewards from the various emergencies (Slater 92). These emergencies threaten the life
of the victims and the helpers. The reactions of the victims of emergencies are untrained and
unrehearsed as the emergencies are unusual. There is no warning on the occurrence of the same, yet
there is a need for instant action. It is due to this reason that the two young psychologists came up with
the five stages. These steps should be a permanent part of our public pedagogy.
First and foremost, the first step in solving a problem is first getting to know the problem. Bystanders
must first understand that what is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In cases where the witness is all alone, the responsibility of acting is upon them (Latané 105). This is
the manipulating stage, where a person who has fully completed the first two steps of problem solving
arrives at. Depending on the nature of the emergency, the responsibility of acting can then be decided,
either on the personal or communal level (Slater 98). In a classroom setting, manipulating of concepts,
ideas, and principles assist in understanding the nature of the problems. This step should be made a
permanent part of our social pedagogy as it assists students to attach meaning to knowledge. From
manipulating the student can then decide on whether they can handle the problem or ask for

Ancient Greek Covert Actions
Covert actions involves the use of military and political operatives as an intelligence activity, aimed at
a specific target and undertaken in such a way that it does not reveal the identity of the source of the
action. Through this concealment, the identity of the actor is disguised, providing deniability (Burgos,
2009). Covert actions, including information gathering and assassination have existed in many forms
over the centuries and have developed through necessity for a particular civilization. The Egyptians
focused on spying to gain the upper hand on its political rivals Greece and Rome. Through many wars,
Greece perfected its implementation of deception to surprise its enemies (Holmes, n.d.). Following

Two Current Issues in Management
For managers to effectively institutionalize their businesses, they must have absolute knowledge of
their business environments and the salient issues that may affect the operations of their organizations
both within and outside so as to be able to proffer absolute and sustainable solution that will keep

One of such issues is Gender Equality. A complete and unbiased definition of gender equality as

Shells Mass and Acid Concentrations Lab
This lab started out when our class was reading an article on ocean acidification. The article was
explaining that ocean acidification has been increasing. Since the industrial revolution in the early
1800s, the ocean s pH has dropped to 8.1, the equivalent of a 30 percent increase in acidity. [1 hhmi]
Our class began the lab to prove the increase in acidification in the ocean. Our guiding question is,
what does different concentrations of acid do to shells? The hypothesis for the experiment is, the
different concentrations of acid will decrease the mass of the shells.
The experiment procedure is first, get your materials, shells, water, vinegar, measuring spoon, a cup,

Hunting Should Not Be Banned
In a civilized and cultivated country, wild animals only continue to exist at all when preserved by
sportsmen ( MARC FOLCO: Some hunting, fishing quotes to live by ). Hunters are the leading source
for all conservation programs. Theodore Roosevelt was one of the most passionate hunters. People put
down hunting like it s a bad thing. Many hunters contribute billions of dollars the the economy.
Hunting should not be banned because of the positive impacts it has on society. Through strictly
regulated hunting we have reintroduced and repopulated various game species into areas where they
were previously wiped out due to extremely excessive hunting by settlers. In the early 1900s all of
Indiana s whitetail deer were virtually extinct. By the 1930s whitetail deer were beginning to be
reintroduced into Indiana. In just 20 years after initial reintroduction the population was at a
sustainable level so that regulated modern hunting programs could begin. Conservationism has been a
necessity to the ecology of the United States and many other countries around the world. The U.S.
Forest Service by itself manages 193 million acres of public land nationwide or roughly 8% of the
total land in the United States. The management of this land would not be feasible without the funding
hunters provide through licenses, tags, and stamps. The 193 million acres does not include any public
recreational land on the state level. There is 2,260,380 acres of public hunting land in all the states

  • 2. What Role Does Self Sufficiency Play In Literature Self sufficiency plays the biggest role in influencing the characters in the books we have read this year because they use self sufficiency as a survival tactic. The Glass Castle most clearly exemplifies the idea that the kids in the book use self sufficiency as a way to survive, because if they didn t they wouldn t survive. There are also some examples of it in the other two books we ve read like The House On Mango Street, and To Kill A Mockingbird. Brian and I became expert forgers. We picked crab apples and wild blackberries and pawpaws during the summer and fall, and we swiped ears of corn from old man Wilson s farm (Walls 172). • 3. Theme Of Love In Frankenstein Throughout the novel, Frankenstein, many of the characters show the love that they have for each other. It seemed as though love was one of the main aspects in the book and what seemed to hold a lot of relationships together. Of course it is known for a mother or a father to love their children, but just as they love their children, it is understood that they love each other just as much. Just how Victor loved Elizabeth with what seemed to be every breath he took, and the monster loved Victor because that was he creator, his father figure. No matter the pain that love may bring, it will always be one of the main aspects of life. Earlier in the novel, Victor states, Elizabeth had caught the scarlet fever; but her illness was not severe, and she quickly recovered. During her confinement, many arguments had been urged to persuade my mother to refrain from attending upon her. (...), she could no longer debar herself from society, and entered her chamber longer debar herself from her society, and entered her chamber long before the danger of the infection was passed. The consequences of this imprudence were fatal (Shelley, 25). The mother was one of the first to show that the love of a guardian is one that should be cherished because the actions will show much louder than words. Caroline would not sleep knowing that her child was sick and the sickness could possibly kill her. The mother had soon gotten sick, but she was not as fortunate as Elizabeth. • 4. Neuromancer And The Matrix Analysis William Gibson s Neuromancer, and The Matrix by The Wachowskis both depict a society in which humans are under constant manipulation by indispensable machines. In Neuromancer, the protagonist Case is indirectly manipulated by a powerful Artificial Intelligence named Wintermute. In The Matrix, majority of the human population lives within a computer simulated world, run by machines. However, both storylines depict the fact that manipulation is more abundant than is often seen, as both protagonists are more frequently under the influence of other humans. Neuromancer and The Matrix both demonstrate the nature of manipulation, and explore the fact that individuals are oblivious to the manipulation that they face. Manipulation is ubiquitous. Throughout the movie, the Matrix is presented to the audience as the as the only source of manipulation, What is the Matrix? Control (The Matrix). The perspective shown to the audience implies that the robots are the only manipulative force present within this society. Morpheus introduces Neo to the concept of the Matrix, by saying You are a slave, Neo (The Matrix) and further explaining it as A prison for your mind (The Matrix). However, even once Neo has been freed from the matrix, he remains susceptible. Neo is constantly being manipulated by both the Oracle and Morpheus. The oracle is able to manipulate Neo into saving Morpheus by telling him he was not The One . In doing so, she prevented Neo from becoming arrogant, and careless, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The marriage produced two children, Antonio and Gina, his little sister. Tony recalled having a pretty good relationship with his father, who taught him English and took him to American films where he saw such big stars as Humphrey Bogart. While Tony s father had a good relation with his kids, he did not have an ideal relationship as a husband and head of the household. One day Tony s father abandoned his family, so Mrs. Montana raises Tony and Gina alone. However, Tony proves somewhat a copycat of his father, abandoning them 5 years. • 7. Reform Movements of the Late 1800s American society began to change in the late 1800s with movements like the Grange and Alliance. These reform movements resulted in a new idea of populism reformation in the interest of the farmer. The late 1800s in American society gave way to challenges like the farmers role in society, railroad regulation for crop transportation, and economic problems about coinage that created discontent among the American farmers; culminating in the Populist movement were reform efforts like Munn vs. Illinois and the Sherman Silver Purchase Act of 1890. The Populist movement arose with a sense for farmers of where they belonged. Many farmers believed that they were not getting enough credit for what they do for society. Doctors take care of America s health and bankers take care of America s money. Farmers began to advocate the fact that they feed all of America (Document A). This evolved into a platform for the newly formed Populist Party. Moreover, racism seemed to arise in a whole new manner. It was essentially holding America back both economically and politically. America, by the farmers point of view, needed to focus on the economic problems that the whole country was facing (Document B). Due to this everyone needs to work together attitude, farmers created the National Colored Farmers Alliance. Farmers began to reform society to show their role in society. Transportation of their crops through railroads was a large challenge creating discontent among the American farmers. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Marine Corps Boot Camp I thought completing Marine Corps boot camp was my most cherished accomplishment, completing boot camp merely stood in the shadows of my last work up for my last deployment. I was holding the Bravo Squad Leader position. At this point in my Marine Corps career I obtained three combat oriented M.O.S. or jobs; however, there was little to no preparation for what I got myself into. There are two culminating events at what we call Combined Arms Exercise or CAX, the first one is solely for the Alpha squad leader in every platoon and the last is for the entire company of Marines which consist of about 200. Again I was no stranger to leading people because I was also a Martial Arts Instructor for the Marine Corps, but it was still not enough. Fox 10 Alpha is the range that honestly and humbly tested my grit and my mental capacity. This range, designed to test 8 year experienced veterans, consisted of the platoon firing 25 mm cannons, 81 mm mortars, and 8 machine guns over our heads while we overtake and clear three critically complicated bunkers with live ammunitions. • 10. Lean Construction And The Construction Process The idea of Lean construction when properly implemented, it becomes the centerpiece for all steps in the construction process. According to the figure above, Lean construction is the most important part of the process, all steps must keep in mind that value needs to be maximized and waste needs to be minimized (Mayer Construction). From lean design, that includes the concepts, process, and products to the supply and fabrication, all these pieces build up to the principles of Lean construction. Lean design then leads to the supply aspect, where they make sure to just order the proper amount needed with the goal in mind, to not make waste (Mayer Construction). The planning process outlines all of these pieces in Lean construction. Once they get the supply than the construction begins, during this step than they need to make sure to be time efficient, like previously stated, sometimes construction workers are believed to be lazy but when they maximize their efficiency within lean construction the negative beliefs will probably dissipate along with the time wasted. With detailed, scheduled planning all the steps are previously stated and the parties know automatically what is going on (Mayer Construction). Lean Construction Advantages There are many great advantages to Lean construction, some include using the fewest amount of material and having the least amount of waste that can create profit and more important, cut costs. Lean construction is not about money at all, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are benefits and there are risks associated with diversification into global markets. Strategy Reading through the annual reports Chipotle s strategy is comprised of four components: 1. To continue to grow and foster new relationships with food suppliers. 4. To continue incurring only minimal amounts of expenses relating to marketing and other advertising expenses. Financial Analysis Fast food is known for low quality and low prices. Alternatively, the dine in experience offers high quality with a higher price. Some restaurants seek a low cost dine in experience but this is done with a deteriorated food quality. Therefore, it would make sense that Chipotle s philosophy of high quality has a hard time maintaining a low price. Chipotle makes this work by charging slightly higher prices than fast food. (1.2.231 236) This conversation between Cressida and Pandarus demonstrates the representation of masculinity in both Coriolanus and Troilus and Cressida. Each of them is concerned with ideas of honour and military prowess in relation to the male identity, drawing on the masculine ideals of Roman antiquity a prominent notion during the early modern period as is evident in Pandarus notions of what a man is . Shakespeare does not, however, endorse these notions in the plays; his handling of the subject is reminiscent more of Cressida s response in this passage, suggesting that the same qualities which make a man can also effeminize him. This essay will examine how this paradoxical nature of manhood and its arbitrary relations to honour and women are exposed in the plays. In the world of Coriolanus, violent and aggressive masculinity is set on a pedestal by the people of Rome. This is evident in Volumnia s attitude towards raising children applauding wounds Coriolanus has received in battle and even going as far as saying that The breasts of Hecuba, When she did suckle Hector, looked not lovelier Than Hector s forehead when it spit forth blood At Grecian sword, contemning. Sanders (2011) argues that By talking about ourselves as honestly as we can in a safe environment and listening to the feedback from others, we can check whether the view we have of ourselves is the one received by others (Sanders, 2011, p61). Feedback not only raises our awareness to what we say but, and perhaps more importantly, how we say it our non verbal communication. The influence of non verbal communication on a clients view of their counsellor can be taught, but I was amazed at just how unaware I was of my own body language. During my first few triads I could not control my hands, eventually opting to sit on them which was perceived as uncomfortable and a result of my nervousness. Receiving feedback gives us a chance to change and modify in order to communicate more effectively (Tolan Lendrum, 1995, p30) and creates awareness of the importance of effective communication when building a genuine relationship with your client. Receiving feedback can also raise our awareness of the value of receiving genuine feedback itself, as well as a need to sensitively communicate feedback to others. This also creates a greater sense of empathy toward others. Triads also enable the trainee to receive feedback from a variety of different people, not just their tutor. The diversity found within a training group will be reflected back to the trainee within feedback received. My group has much diversity with regards to sexuality, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Latane And Darley s Five Theories According to Latané and Darley, there are five characteristics of emergencies that affect individuals making them offer no help when other people are present. There is no correlation between the number of bystanders and the probability of helping others (Slater 90). There are several variables that lead to this phenomenon. They include ambiguity, cohesiveness, and diffusion of responsibility. Latané and Darley described these emergencies as the primary cause of the five stages of helping behavior. There are few positive rewards from the various emergencies (Slater 92). These emergencies threaten the life of the victims and the helpers. The reactions of the victims of emergencies are untrained and unrehearsed as the emergencies are unusual. There is no warning on the occurrence of the same, yet there is a need for instant action. It is due to this reason that the two young psychologists came up with the five stages. These steps should be a permanent part of our public pedagogy. First and foremost, the first step in solving a problem is first getting to know the problem. Bystanders must first understand that what is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In cases where the witness is all alone, the responsibility of acting is upon them (Latané 105). This is the manipulating stage, where a person who has fully completed the first two steps of problem solving arrives at. Depending on the nature of the emergency, the responsibility of acting can then be decided, either on the personal or communal level (Slater 98). In a classroom setting, manipulating of concepts, ideas, and principles assist in understanding the nature of the problems. This step should be made a permanent part of our social pedagogy as it assists students to attach meaning to knowledge. From manipulating the student can then decide on whether they can handle the problem or ask for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ancient Greek Covert Actions Covert actions involves the use of military and political operatives as an intelligence activity, aimed at a specific target and undertaken in such a way that it does not reveal the identity of the source of the action. Through this concealment, the identity of the actor is disguised, providing deniability (Burgos, 2009). Covert actions, including information gathering and assassination have existed in many forms over the centuries and have developed through necessity for a particular civilization. The Egyptians focused on spying to gain the upper hand on its political rivals Greece and Rome. • 37. Hunting Should Not Be Banned In a civilized and cultivated country, wild animals only continue to exist at all when preserved by sportsmen ( MARC FOLCO: Some hunting, fishing quotes to live by ). Hunters are the leading source for all conservation programs. Theodore Roosevelt was one of the most passionate hunters. People put down hunting like it s a bad thing. Many hunters contribute billions of dollars the the economy. Hunting should not be banned because of the positive impacts it has on society. Through strictly regulated hunting we have reintroduced and repopulated various game species into areas where they were previously wiped out due to extremely excessive hunting by settlers. In the early 1900s all of Indiana s whitetail deer were virtually extinct. By the 1930s whitetail deer were beginning to be reintroduced into Indiana. In just 20 years after initial reintroduction the population was at a sustainable level so that regulated modern hunting programs could begin. Conservationism has been a necessity to the ecology of the United States and many other countries around the world. The U.S. Forest Service by itself manages 193 million acres of public land nationwide or roughly 8% of the total land in the United States. The management of this land would not be feasible without the funding hunters provide through licenses, tags, and stamps. The 193 million acres does not include any public recreational land on the state level. There is 2,260,380 acres of public hunting land in all the states ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
