An Owner s Manual For My Trek Bicycle
Technical documents in most cases are really important, mainly because it helps explain the needs and
procedures of a product/research. Technical documents can include anywhere from an owner s
manual, to a journal article, to blogs in which case, I m choosing an owner s manual for my TREK
bicycle. One of the nicest features of this manual that distinguishes it from many other owner s
manual is the fact that it provides not only a hardcopy of the manual but also a compact disc (CD). On
the CD, the customer has the ability to get a translated version of the manual. When I bought the bike,
TREK authorized dealer, provided me with a physical copy which was solidly in English which is not
a problem for me but customers in other regions of the United States or other parts of the world may
need a translated manual in order to understand it. With the CD, English as second language
customers have the same ability as I do to understand the manual rather than having to go to
translators or translating websites. So TREK does not really have a specific range of customers they
are targeting but if you speak other languages than those on the website would be problem but they
still have the ability to link the manual on the CD to the company website in order to check for other
languages TREK may have translated into. After reading majority of the manual, I can conclude that
the manual basically meets all the requirement of the excellence in technical documents. The manual

Inner Journey and Benigini s Life is Beautiful Essay example
Inner Journey and Benigini s Life is Beautiful All of life is a journey. All Journeys have a beginning
and an end. All the outcomes that are associated with journey are the results of the choices that we
make in out daily lives, good or bad that have to be lives with. In the Macquarie dictionary journey is
defined as: The exploration into one s self. It offers growth development through emotional
pilgrimage and provides new insights for the mind and spirit. Throughout this essay I will be referring

Life is Beautiful revolves around four characters: Guido, Dora, Joshua and Dr Lessing but it mainly
revolves around Guido and his inner journey from an innocent, carefree existence to life.
Guido character is established right from the beginning, by his cheeky face and his hand and body
movement. Then later on in the film Guido is forced to go to war and to fight for his country. Guido is
very resourceful and a great opportunist. He is always ready to take advantage of any situation and use
it to the benefit his aims at that particular moment. Guido s inner journey could be seen to be directed
by the events that occur in the film. But Guido s cleverness in using situations for his own end implies
that he is an individual who is challenged and inspirited by the situation that he find himself in. For
example: when Dora falls into his arms, when he is crashes into her in the streets and meets her with a
friend.
In the camp, Guido is not only concerned to protect Joshua, he also tries to reassure Dora that
everything is ok by playing her favourite song over the loud speaker Guido also lets Dora hear Joshua
s voice as another reassures that they are both

Descriptive Essay On A Morning Run
This morning I woke up to do my morning run. I thought I would take a route through the woods
instead of the sidewalk. As I was running through the woods, I saw how gorgeous the forest really is.
The wind in my blonde curly hair, rain drops dripping off the bright green leaves onto me it cooled me
off. I sat down on a rock to take a break and I noticed a weird looking bush that didn t have thorns or
anything growing around it. It looked like a door.... As I get up to walk over to the dark green door
that blended in with the leaves. I touch the small handle and open the door up slowly, there is a bright
orange path. I stepped onto the path and the door shut quickly behind me. As I walked along the path I
saw a shiny silver key. As I picked the key up I noticed that it was a skeleton key! Although it was
strange because it looked brand new. I decided to keep the key in my pocket and to keep walking.. As
I got further along in the path I saw something else. As I got closer to the object I noticed that it was
shiny as well. I realized that it was a shiny golden cup made of glass. It was absolutely gorgeous, it
had a E on the side. The cup had no marks, scratches, or anything. First I find a key now a cup! I
picked the cup up very carefully and decided to keep walking.... I walked and walked, I finally came
upon a huge mud puddle that covered a portion of the path. I couldn t walk around it. Or through it. So
maybe I can swing on the vines above the

The Disaster Of The Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster
Engineering Disaster Newton s third law of motion states that for every action there is an equal and
opposite reaction; this law is not only applied in our studies but in our daily lives. For engineers, this
is a law to live by; reminding each engineer that each of his/her actions will have an equal
consequence whether it is good or bad. Engineers are trusted and respected individuals who represent
not only themselves but the profession as a whole; their title gives them a great responsibility and a
reputation to carry. On rare occasions do engineers make mistakes that sometimes lead to disasters
that impact the lives of many. For every disaster that occurs as a result of an engineering mistake;
thousands of lessons are learned. One disaster that impacted the lives of many and was labelled as the
worst engineering disaster in history is the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The chain of events that lead to
this disaster where taken as lessons and used to write many of today s engineering codes of ethics, and
improve safety regulations in various industries.
On the morning of April 26th 1986 the world experienced the worst nuclear and engineering disaster
ever: the nuclear disaster of Chernobyl. Reactor number 4 at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant
exploded due various reasons: the design of the reactor itself had a major flaw that would make it
unstable when run at low power, and the employees responsible for running the reactor were
inadequately trained. Leonid Toptunov, the

The Beat Movement And Kerouac s On The Road
The beat movement is expressed the social and literary nonconformity of artists, poets, and writers.
The word beat originally meant weary but came to refer as well to a musical beat. Followers of this
movement, called beats or beatniks, lived nonconformist lives. They tended to shun regular work and
sought a higher consciousness through Zen Buddhism, music, and, sometimes, drugs. Works that
capture the essence of this era include Allen Ginsberg s long, free verse poem, Howl, published in
1956, and Jack Kerouac s novel of the movement, On the Road, published in 1957.
Alan Freed s listeners responded enthusiastically, and Freed began promoting the new music that grew
out of rhythm and blues and country and pop. He called the music rock n roll. In the early and mid
1950s, Richard Penniman, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and His Comets, and especially Elvis Presley
brought rock n roll to a frantic pitch of popularity among the newly affluent teens who bought their
records. Elvis Presley, the unofficial King of Rock n Roll, first developed his musical style by singing
in church and listening to gospel, country, and blues music on the radio in Memphis, Tennessee. Not

One proposed solution to the housing problem in inner cities was urban renewal. The National
Housing Act of 1949 was passed to provide a decent home and a suitable living environment for every
American family. This act called for tearing down rundown neighborhoods and constructing low
income housing. Later, the nation s leaders would create a new cabinet position, Housing and Urban
Development (HUD), to aid in improving conditions in the inner city. Although dilapidated areas were
razed, parking lots, shopping centers, highways, parks, and factories were constructed on some of the
cleared land, and there was seldom enough new housing built to accommodate all the displaced

The San Bernardino Shooting
The events of the San Bernardino shooting were a tragedy. 14 people were killed, and another 22 were
injured when a married terrorist couple staged an attack on a Christmas party. This was an unmitigated
catastrophe, but it spawned one of the most important security debates in recent memory. The FBI
wanted to unlock one of the suspects phones, but were unable to do so because of security measures
on the phone. The FBI wanted to brute force the password lock on the iPhone, but device would wipe
itself after 10 failed attempts to unlock the iPhone. Thus, the FBI asked Apple to create an
intentionally insecure iOS update, specifically for this iPhone, in order to bypass the security
restrictions. Apple disagreed with the FBI, and tried to avoid helping the FBI in such a way, arguing it
would undermine the purpose of security itself. Overall, Apple has the best argument, both legally and
as a matter of public policy.
Primarily, the FBI wants to protect American citizens from malicious threats, in this case terrorism.
Unlocking the iPhone in question could give extremely important information, not only to the case
itself, but to potential terrorist agents worldwide. The San Bernardino killers may have contacted
others for assistance, and the FBI will not be able to bring them to justice without aid from Apple. The
FBI cannot protect the American citizens, nor can it investigate crimes aided by the use of Apple s
electronic devices (in this case, an iPhone 5c) without Apple s

Inside The Door Effect Versus Door On The Face Effect
Foot in the Door Effect Versus Door In The Face Effect

Foot In The Door Effect Versus Door In The Face Effect
Foot In The Door
The Foot in the Door Effect is essentially where an individual requests a potential participant to
engage in a simple task in the hopes that they are more likely to engage in a more difficult task
afterwards. The belief behind this effect is that the individual requested to engage in the simpler task
or tasks will develop a sense of confidence or willingness after the task has been completed.
Essentially, after each smaller task, the participant will more likely be willing to engage in the difficult
task. This is what is considered to be a confidence builder and it allows for the individual to feel more
confortable in performing the difficult task. The Foot in the door effect is also considered to be a
technique relatively consistent based on its initial task. In comparison to the Foot In The Door Effect,
the Door In The Face Effect can be defined as the persuaders attempt to convince their participants to
initially undertake a difficult task prior to engaging in less difficult tasks in hopes for increasing
compliance. The belief behind this effect is that the participant will be more likely to engage in
smaller tasks after initially being requested to engage in a larger task. The prior request to engage in
the more difficult task may be thought of as the

The Value Of The Balance Sheet
The main purpose of the balance sheet is to reflect and explain the accounting equation: Assets =
Liabilities + Owner s Equity. This equation is the fundamental model for recording and reporting
transactions. It is essentially useful for showing what the company owns, what the company owes, and
what does the owner s equity remains. The ordering of the assets and the liabilities help the user to
assess the liquidity of the company. For our purpose focusing on Walt Disney World, we are primarily
focused on their assets and liabilities. In analyzing the balance sheet of our company, we will explain
each aspects of the balance sheet in three separate parts.
To understand how the total assets changed within a year, we shall look at each aspects of the assets.
In the cash and cash equivalent, we have seen that the cash in hand decreased in 2013 from $3,931 to
$3,421 in 2014. This shall shows that the company may have spent cash on inventories and other
goods for the benefit of the company. In the receivables aspect, the amount of receivables has begun to
increase from 2013 to 2014 with an increase rate of 11.6%. In other terms, it increased from $6,967 in
2013 to $7,822 in 2014. This was an infinitesimal increase and it shows that the company had a lot of
companies owing them for the purchase of the Walt Disney Products and land usage. Another way of
saying is that other companies may be purchasing land from Disney to sell their products and expand
their companies to wider

Ecological Systems Theory Paper
The ecological systems theory is a theoretical framework that is significantly used by social workers
in practice with clients because it helps them to understand, assess and intervene in the various
systems levels (Corcoran and Nichols Casebolt, 2004). As a social work student, I have learned that it
is essential to take into account the different ways in which the client interacts with their environment
as well as, anyway their environment influences their ability to grow and change (Hick, 2010).
Historically, the founder of ecological systems theory was Urine Bronfenbrenner, and he believed that
people are influenced and affected by their social environments (Gladstone, 2017). Bronfenbrenner s
work also includes a focus on the child s growth

Yearning For Home In The Odyssey
In Homer s epic The Odyssey, our hero Odysseus experiences a yearning for home after being away
for nearly 20 years. This theme of yearning for home is displayed in Ed Sheeran s Photograph , with
lyrics telling the story of someone who is away from home and is missing their lover, just as Odysseus
is missing Penelope. In the song, Ed Sheeran sings Loving can hurt sometimes... But it is the only
thing that keeps us alive. This represents how Odysseus is plagued by his longing and love for his
family but this love is also what motivates him to persevere through his difficulties in order to come
back home. The song also soulfully states that We keep this love in a photograph. We made these
memories for ourselves. This shows that Odysseus only has memories left ... Show more content on

He ends up escaping with six fallen crewmates. In Viva la Vida Coldplay sings about a king who
seems to have been thrown from his position and is also in a tight spot against his rebelling people.
Similarly to the king in the song, King Odysseus has to face a troubling situation where there is little
hope of escaping with his own life, much less his crew s. In contrast to the song, Odysseus is forced to
face the giant Polyphemus s wrath, rather than his disciples. As Odysseus watches his crew die one by
one before him, the song speaks of their castle standing on pillars of salt, pillars of sand. This reflects
how Odysseus is slowly watching the situation crumble out of his control, just like how pillars of salt
of sand crumble because they lack structural support. Correspondingly, Odysseus and his crew are
unfamiliar with the giants cave, making this situation even more unnerving and difficult for Odysseus,
which relates to how the king in the song has his missionaries in a foreign field. This shows how
similar Odysseus is in relation to the fallen king in the

Comprehensive Preparation For A Complete Life
Comprehensive Preparation for a Complete Life
Teen pregnancy has been a serious social issue for quite a while. Often, a teen pregnancy is
detrimental for both the teen and the child involved. Both a teen mother and her child are more
susceptible to complications during the pregnancy and birth than and adult mother and her child.
Unfortunately, a teen mother and her infant are also less likely to pursue and receive healthcare to
alleviate these health risks (Teen Pregnancy). Moreover, teen pregnancy is often cited as a factor that
perpetuates the cycle of poverty, since teen mothers are likely to be poor in the first place, and their
children are likely to grow up to be poor (Teen Pregnancy). While there is no argument that teens
should be educated to prevent teen pregnancy, there is a debate on how it should be done. Currently,
there are two forms of education focused on reducing teen pregnancies: abstinence only education and
comprehensive sex education with birth control. However, sex education and birth control are clearly
the superior option, due to its effectiveness and the futility of abstinence only education.
Comprehensive sex education with an emphasis on birth control is a much more effective educational
tool to prevent teen pregnancy than abstinence only education. Fortunately, teen pregnancy rates have
fallen dramatically in the past 20 years. In 2002, the rate of pregnancy was 75.4 for every 1,000
women between the ages of 15 and 19, from 116.9 in 1990 (Teen

Masculinity In Sports Media
Introduction Gender classification is a predominant topic within today s sports and is most broadly
understood through the portrayals of sports media. Through overt and covert ways, sports media has
continued to promote a masculine representation of sports (Millington Wilson, 2010; Messener,
Duncan, Jensen, 1993). By understanding the way in which sports media portrays sports, one can
recognize how masculinity has dominated the world of sports. With the aid of two unique studies of
sports media, this paper will critique the way in which media has effected the gendered depiction of
sports.
Study Summary In order to thoroughly understand sports media, it is critical to understand the way in
which sports media impacts its consumers. Millington and Wilson (2010) explores the impact of sports
media by focusing on its impact on a group of boys in a Vancouver High School. Millington and
Wilson (2010) analyze the way in which sports media impacts ones activity in physical education and
the way in which one interprets sports media. Through their research, Millington and Wilson (2010)
found that young boys are equally susceptible to the impacts of both physical education and sports
media. While the impacts may vary, both sports media and physical education promotes the
importance of masculinity in sports and general society (Millington Wilson, 2010). While Millington
and Wilson focus on a specific demographic, Messener et al. (1993) focus and compare the effects of

What Are The Similarities Between The Inca Empire And The...
The Aztec and Inca Empires
I step down from the Aztecs. (Voyages into World History Vol 1 3rd edition, Chapter 15, PPT slide 27)
It was rare that they would sacrifice a human; it would be more common to see a goat or other animals
be sacrificed. They would only sacrifice a human during a famine, war, etc. Though both empires were
very stanch and devout to their religion, the Aztec had the more powerful religion. (Voyages into
World History Vol 1 3rd edition, Chapter 15, PPT slide 12) Although the religion was somewhat the
same, between the Inca and the Aztec the social structure was very different. The Aztecs based their
social structure on a ladder of four classes: nobility, commoners, serf and slaves. The nobility and the
commoners could own Land. (Voyages into World History Vol 1 3rd edition, Chapter 15, PPT slide 10
16) Serfs were members of the lowest social class. They were assigned and attached to the land owned
by the nobles and required to perform labor with a certain amount of work for an amount of free time.
A serf was very similar to the indentured slave, in the seventeenth to eighteenth centuries. Then there
was the slave who worked on the noble s properties with no release. (Voyages into World History Vol
1 3rd edition, Chapter 15, p. 485) In contrast, the Inca social structure was based on equality.
Everyone was equal and there was no upper or lower class, a stateless society. Everyone would have

Qing China And Tokugawa China
For many students around the world, ethnocentrism is a real, serious issue that impedes understanding
and success. One example of how this ethnocentrism invades the minds of the average American and
distorts their thoughts is by asking them to compare different Asian histories or cultures, to which they
will likely reply they re all the same. In addition to being ethnocentric, this viewpoint is just plain
wrong. Take, for example, Qing China and Tokugawa Japan. Though these two Asian empires had
many things in common, they are far from being the same. Qing China refers to the period of Chinese
history between 1644 and 1911, when the foreign Manchus established a dynasty and ruled over
China, calling themselves the Qing. The non Chinese tribes that came to power at this time were from
the area that would later be called Manchuria. Geographically, Qing China grew three times the size of
what it was under the Ming, expanding north to include areas of Mongolia and Manchuria, as well as
west. The country was divided into provinces, with each province being managed and governed under
tusi, or native chieftains. The region of China is largely mountainous, with the majority of the
population densely packed near the coast and around the Yellow River Valley. After establishing their
rule, the Manchus created a new dynasty and declared a new emperor, carrying on the traditional
Chinese system of government and administration that had existed since the time of the Tang. Despite

Descriptive Essay On The Night In The City
We would walk through the city every night. It would not be an 80 degree night, no, more like a 68
degree night, where all you need is warm sweater to shelter your kidneys. No wind, no rain, just the
empty air. You and I and the empty air. As much as we adored hanging out during the shinning days,
we always favored the night. The night had more intimate and exclusive qualities. The night has a
misty glow that makes the world shine in a way that the sun fails to achieve. The night conceals itself
behind an unlit cloak and requires effort to unravel the true beauty underneath. That s how it feels
existing around you. It s similar to having an exhausting day and all that is anticipated is the night.
You can stroll to relaxation and contentment. You are my night. When we are together, I suppose, it is
only for the moon to see. We would walk through the city every night, specifically on the sidewalk
and the rhythmic clicks of my boots echoed throughout the entire block. My boots wanted to show
you off to the entire city. Each click lets everyone know that I am with you and no one else. Each click
lets everyone know that I am confident and delighted when I am around you. Each click lets everyone
know that I am not ashamed of who I am around you. However, your shoes would not make any noise.
They never do. We would walk through the city every night at the same pace. Side by side, left foot,
then right, then left, and then right again. We are in harmony, yet relish the silence.

Macro Level Analysis
Sociologists use two levels of analysis: macro and micro. Macro level analysis observes large scale
configurations of society such as, social change and stability. Micro level analysis observes small
scale configurations of society such as, communication or group motivation. Symbolic interactionism,
functional analysis, and conflict theory each fall under either a macro or micro level analysis category.
Symbolic interactionism focuses on micro level analysis because, it focuses on face to face
interactions; how society establishes social life through the use of symbols. Functional analysis and
conflict theory both fall under the macro level analysis category. Functional analysis uses macro level
analysis because, it focuses on the innner parts of society and how these parts work together and

functionalists and conflict theorists would focus more on the macro level, how changes in the lives of
Americans has caused a rise in the obesity rate. Functionalists might stress that today the upsurge in
technology has taken over a lot of jobs which, in turn, causes a decrease in income forcing people to
buy cheap fast food to save their money, especially those who have several mouths to feed.
Functionalist might also analyze the change in lifestyles, that technology has increased laziness in

Dissent In The Civil Rights Movement
On January 21, 2017, an estimated 500,000 Americans marched on the National Mall, continuing a
longstanding tradition of protest on this public space. On this particular day, protesters sought to send
a message to President Donald Trump regarding women s rights. Known as the Women s March, this
event is only one of the more recent examples of large scale protest and dissent on the National Mall.
Throughout American history, protest movements have often made their way to Washington, D.C., the
capital city and political center of the United States. Although the National Mall was not necessarily
designed in a way that fosters protest, it quickly became the foremost venue for American
demonstration. As AIDS activist Cleve Jones once stated, the ... Show more content on

Although the McMillan Plan left some room for interpretation, it also continued to promote some
national ideals and demonstrators took advantage of that state sponsored fiction of universality... [and]
made the Mall the nation s premier setting for political assembly and protest. More simply, protestors
used the glorified sense of union promoted on the Mall to push forward their political dissent. This
principle is particularly relevant in understanding the Civil Rights Movement s utilization of the
National Mall. In August 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders planned a prayer
pilgrimage to the Lincoln Memorial, where King delivered his most famous speech on its steps. King
s choice to deliver his speech at this memorial was undeniably deliberate. Abolitionist President
Lincoln led the United States through the Civil War and gained a reputation as the man who ended
slavery. King s speech, delivered at the memorial that honored that man, outlined the principles of
racial equality focusing on many of the shortcomings in American society. King s choice of venue
suggested that although the Lincoln Memorial celebrated equality in principle, the United States had a
long way to go regarding this issue. This demonstration s use of a feature on the National Mall
demonstrated the hypocrisy of it, as the public space honored a doctrine that was not universally
practiced in everyday American life. This march was one of the first of its kind, but it was certainly
not the last. Throughout the latter half of the twentieth century, demonstrations have utilized features
of the National Mall to promote relevant political causes. Demonstrations against the Vietnam War
occurred frequently on the National Mall, many of which were less carefully

Marlowe Influences On Doctor Faustus
Christopher Marlowe Water supports a seed to grow into a beautiful flower, just as Christopher
Marlowe s works watered the seed of the Renaissance and Elizabethan literature. The Renaissance
was characterized by new ideas and thinking, which created many influential writers from this time.
Christopher Marlowe is known as a talented writer from the late sixteenth through early eighteenth
centuries. He and many other writers of this time created new ways of writing and impacted it in other
ways. Marlowe was considered the most important playwright before Shakespeare, but his entire
career lasted six years because of his untimely death when he was twenty nine. His most famous work,
Doctor Faustus, is based on the Faust Legend, a German classic, in which a scholar sells his soul to
the devil in exchange for more power and knowledge (Biography.com). Christopher Marlowe s tragic
play, The Tragic History of Doctor Faustus, had major influences in the development of Elizabethan
literature during the mid sixteenth century in England. Christopher Marlowe uses the new idea of
thinking in this play to represent the people of his time. By intertwining religion with morality in
Doctor Faustus, Marlowe shows the common conflicts of the people during this period. Doctor
Faustus was written during the reign of Elizabeth I while people struggled with their religion and
morality. Before Martin Luther s Reformation of the church, their religion, Roman Catholicism, was

How Did Icarus Change Ovid s Life

as he undergoes the life changing event of getting exiled by Emperor Augustus, through the characters

The Desire for Everlasting Life and Gilgamesh Essay
The desire for everlasting life or immortality has been the first and the oldest quest of mankind. At the
beginning of time, man was designed to live forever. When God created Adam, he created him to
dwell on the earth and to fill it with his offspring s. At no time was he told that this was a temporary
arrangement. He was to live forever unless he ate from one certain tree. If he ate from that tree, then
he would die. We are then left with several questions, if he had not eaten from that tree, would he still
be alive? If he was meant to live forever, was that desire instilled in him? And as his descendants, was
the desire to live forever instilled in each of us as well?

name I will make for myself. (pgs. 19, 20) But in this respect, he makes the same mistake that Adam
made; he takes something that does not belong to him, Humbaba s life, and because of that, he looses
the life of his best friend, his companion, Enkidu. Not only that, but now he may also have lost the
chance at the one thing he truly desires, immortality. He too angers his gods, and he too is punished
with the loss of Enkidu s life, and perhaps his own as well.
With the death of his dearest friend Enkidu, Gilgamesh now begins to actually fear death and begins
searching for the one man that was made immortal by the gods to ask him how to overcome death. In
Gilgamesh s own words, the death of his friend Enkidu has shaken him to the core. When speaking of
his death he says Enkidu, whom I so loved, who went with me through every hardship. The fate of
mankind has overtaken him. Six days and seven nights I wept for him...I was frightened..I have grown
afraid of death, so I roam the steppe, my friend s case weighs heavy upon me..my friend whom I loved
is turned into clay...Shall I too not lie down like him, and never get up forever and ever? (pg. 78)

Perspective In Elie Wiesel s Night
Perspective is important. The way you look at something may be drastically different from the way I
look at something, giving us a potentially vast difference in opinion. This applies to literature as well
and is shown in the different narratives the stories are written in. Different stories are better written in
different types of narratives (including first, second or third person narratives) and Night is no
exception. Night is written in a first person narrative, which in my opinion, is very effective in
carrying across the author s point. First person narration in this novel allows us to connect with the
narrator and understand the situation in a realistic sense, as well as being the most fitting narrative for

That is to say writing in first person can allow the author to be more descriptive with the way he
writes his scenes. An example of a very descriptive scene is when the Jews were on the train cars,
heading towards Buchenwald. Passersby threw bread into the cattle cars and watched as the Jews tore
each other apart for the crust of it. An especially gruesome part of this event is written in the
following: He was hiding a piece of bread under his shirt. With lightning speed he pulled it out and put
it to his mouth. His eyes lit up, a smile, like a grimace, illuminated his ashen face. And was
immediately extinguished. A shadow had lain down beside him. And this shadow threw itself over
him. Stunned by the blows, the old man was crying: Meir, my little Meir! Don t you recognize me...
You re killing your father... I have bread... for you too... for you too... (Wiesel, 101) The use of first
person narration is very effective here. Elie, as a 16 year old boy, watched the worst of humanity
through his own two eyes. It is hard to provide a description as chilling as this one with other types of

The Structure Of Animal And Plant Cells
Question one: the differences between the structure of animal and plant cells
In general both animal cells and plant cells have the similar structures, however they do have some
differences.
Plant cells have a cell wall, this strengthens the cell,it also gives it shape and protects it from infection.
Plant cells also have chloroplasts which absorb light energy, this is vital for photosynthesis. Plant cell
also have a vacuole, however unlike the ones found in animal cells they are much larger. Vacuoles
store food and nutrients essential for the plants survival it may also contain cell sap, this keeps the cell
large and swollen with water. They may even store waste products for the cell. This can prevent the
cell from contamination.(1)
Another difference is the position of the nucleus in the cells. In a plant cell it s positioned on the outer
edges of the cell this is because the vacuole takes place in the middle of the cell. In a nucleus there is
the majority of the cell s. It also contain genetic material and DNA for the cell. (2)
In animal cells the general position of the nucleus is in the middle of the cell. Plant cells don t have a
certain shape however they do have a structure that resembles a rectangle shape, this is due to the rigid
cell wall they have.(10)
Animal cells on the other hand do not have a distinct cell wall, they have an irregular shape. This is
because animal cells do not need a cell wall. Animal cells also are eukaryotic cells, this is any

Christ And The Sea
Christ and the Sea
Santiago is an old fisherman from Cuba. He s a man who doesn t have much, except for a strong will.
From the things he does to the things that he says, he is perceived, by the means of literary analysis, as
a Christ figure. For one thing, Santiago is a fisherman. This is the clearest biblical allusion in the
entire novel, and it comes straight from the title itself. His endurance throughout the book also reflects
the spirit of faith that Christ had, giving us the impression that the old man might have some sort of
unspoken bond with the fish, like Christ with his strong love for humanity. The old man struggles and
even succeeds in his attempt to catch the fish, only to see it ripped and torn away from him. This is
parallel to the story of Christ, who had to bear suffering and betrayal until his death. In many senses,
Santiago s endeavor symbolizes the labor of Christ described in the Gospels. The Ichthys has its origin
from the well known miracle about how Christ fed five thousand with five small loaves and two fish .
The religious symbolism behind the Jesus Fish is reiterated a multitude of times throughout the Bible.
Several of Jesus disciples are fisherman, and He even goes as far as to tell them that he will make
them fishers of men . Further ahead, Jesus is offered grilled fish after having been resurrected. The
significance of fish in the Bible is a large one, and it s no different in The Old Man and the Sea. Most

If physicalism is true, Mary knows all there is to know, and hence her knowledge is complete. When
Mary steps out of the room and sees a red tomato, she learns about what it is like to see a red tomato.
Since Mary knows all the physical facts, what she learns outside the room is a phenomenological
feature of her visual experience, also known as qualia. Qualia, the subjective experience, relate to
sensations and emotions such as feeling exhausted due to a headache. An example of qualia is what it
is like for me to taste this specific type of candy at this moment. In Mary s case, she learns what it is
like to see the red tomato when she is outside of the room. The world has a combination of non
physical and physical facts. Therefore, the theory of physicalism is false as Frank Jackson s

This objection attacks the claim that Mary learns a new fact. According to Lewis, new experience
gives an individual new ability. For instance, a person tasting Vegemite for the first time would result
in gaining the ability to remember the taste, to recognize the taste the next time he has Vegemite, and
to imagine that same taste. So, when Mary knows what it is like to see red, she gains the ability to
remember, to imagine, and to recognize. However, gaining a new ability is different from gaining a
new information. A new ability, moreover, doesn t have a phenomenal property. Therefore, Mary didn
t learn any new fact and the Knowledge Argument fails to refute

Soccer! Why is it something that can shape character as an adult?
It was seven o clock in the morning on a Sunday afternoon. The sun was already peeking through my
window. I could feel the warmth of the sun as it was shining on my face. Lying there, I listened to the
sounds that only someone who was up at that time of the morning on a Sunday, could hear. I listened
as my neighbors cut their grass. I heard birds chirping, as if they were speaking to me. Teresa, get up!
Today is the big day . It wasn t normal for me as a teenager, to wake up on my own. My mom was my
alarm clock and I was used to her coming in and telling me several times Teresa, honey, it s time to
wake up . This was a routine that was repeated every day during school. So ... Show more content on

Looking back, I remember this moment as if it were yesterday. It seemed as if all my senses were
heightened. I can still remember the smell of the fresh cut grass, the freshly chalked lines, the feel of
the sun beating down on my exposed skin and the sounds of all the younger kids playing in the back
ground. More importantly though, I remember the way I felt when I first saw my teammates. I felt a
great sense of happiness. Additionally, I felt warm inside, a sense of excitement, loved, needed, and
wanted. Even though I had my biological family, I also had a second family in them. This was my
Sunday family. That game, that day, was one of our biggest games! Not only was it against our biggest
rival but the winner went on to play in the state championship. The team we were playing had beaten
us twice and we had beaten them twice as well. We were evenly matched at every level, but still, I felt
nervous, anxious, scared and even excited. As a goalie, I knew that a lot of the important aspects of the
game rested directly on my shoulders, a feat to which I gladly accepted.
Finally, after what felt like a lifetime, the whistle blew. This indicated that the game had begun. We
had ninety minutes to show everyone, including ourselves, why we were the better team. As the game
progressed, it became apparent that I was struggling in my position. I had let two goals go in, that on

Rites Of Passage In The Setting Sun And The Rolling World
The rite of passage that is most significant to me is doing what you want to do and not what other
people want you to do. It is the rite of passage because in the story The Setting Sun and the Rolling
World it states how, Nhamo wanted to pursue his dream but his father Old Musoni didn t want him to
leave the farm.
Not having to rely on other people is my second rite of passage of this story because it helps the
person to be more mature and grown up. The story sights Old Musoni : You haven t changed your
mind? Nhamo: No, father. and it shows how he s maturing by choosing one thing and sticking to it and
making his own choice.
Being free and having freedom is my third rite of passage because it is a right to be free and is

The Enlightened Histori An Article Authored By Jeffrey...
Aregai 1 The Enlightened Archaeologist an article authored by Jeffrey Hantman and Gary Dunham
chronicles Thomas Jefferson s investigation of the Indian burial mound located on the South Fork of
the Rivanna River in the 18th century. The site excavated by Jefferson, however, is no longer visible,
most likely due to dissipation by inevitable natural occurrences (I.E. excessive rainfall, flooding
rivers, etc.) or human activity such as farming. The Father of American Archaeology correctly predicts
the latter in his book, Notes on the State of Virginia, in which he states, mounds ...put under
cultivation are much reduced in their height, and spread in width, by the plough, and will probably
disappear in time (1787). Fortunately for Archaeologists of the late 20th century (1988) an Indian
burial mound identical to that of the one Jefferson described in his book was uncovered just 14 miles
from the South Fork of the Rivanna River. The Rapidan mound in spite of being reduced to its
southern edge, provided archaeologists Hantman, Dunham, and colleagues a unique, yet waning
opportunity to record and excavate the quickly abrading site. What they discovered from their digging
surprised them; the content and order within the mound also resembled Thomas Jefferson s descriptive
notes. However, what he noted as the random placement of

Was Gerald Ford s Presidency A Success Or A Failure
The Presidency of Gerald Ford It is difficult to decide whether the presidency of America s 38th
President, Gerald Ford was a success or a failure. In his short time in office, Ford managed to leave a
mixed legacy of controversy and satisfaction. Many of the decisions made during Gerald Ford s
presidency are questioned as to whether they were positive or negative for the country. Some of the
most disputable issues from the Ford presidency have been debated and have drastically changed
public opinion. Ford s presidency was a temporary failure but can be considered successful in the long
term. Ford became the President of the United States unlike any other president before him and was
considered the accidental president. President Richard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the late 1960 s and the early 70 s, America suffered from extreme national inflation. Prices of
goods dramatically increased while money decreased in value. Meanwhile, employment rates soared
because of the baby boomer population increase. The situation became so chaotic that the term
stagflation was created to describe what was going on. Stagflation was defined as a period of time
with high unemployment and inflation rates. Since there were a majority of Democrats in Congress,
Ford wanted to create a grassroots movement in order to influence the government to solve the
economic crisis. Ford addressed this problem during a speech in 1974 where he proclaimed, There is
only one point on which all advisers have agreed: We must whip inflation right now (Ford). Inspired
by this speech, large red buttons with the slogan Whip Inflation Now were handed out to the public.
Many historians agree that this campaign turned into a failure. Ford tried to succeed but the buttons
were easily criticized for looking childish and inflation grew throughout the rest of the 70 s. The WIN
campaign may have failed but Ford did not give up on the economy. On October 15th 1974, Ford
passed the Federal Elections Campaign Act of 1974 which greatly managed political spending for the
first time since the 1920 s. After some time, the process to help the economy started to

The Flixborough Disaster As A System And The Impact Of...
This paper seeks to use the Flixborough disaster as a case study to point out the need for systems
thinking in industrial activities. There have been many industrial disasters but one that stands out in its
category of Temporary Modifications is the Flixborough disaster. Using a couple of systems thinking
tools described in Anderson and Johnson s (1997) book; Systems Thinking Basics, we outline all the
events leading to the disaster in comparison to the possible outcome if systems thinking had been
applied. One example of systems thinking is OSHA s process safety management standard. Based on
the models used in this paper, it can generally be inferred that with the right systemic approach,
industrial accidents can be totally eliminated. Numerous events have occurred over time in industry.
Some of these events have paved the way for safe activities in today s industry. One such event is the
Flixborough Disaster. My objective in this paper is to analyze the Flixborough Disaster as a system
and the impact of process safety management on industry safety. The Flixborough Disaster is the most
famous of all temporary modifications disasters where a temporary pipe was installed in the Nypro
Factory at Flixborough. It failed two months later (Kletz, 1998). The disaster was an explosion of
warlike dimensions which occurred at about 4.53 PM on Saturday June 1st 1974 and left the

A Study On Water Creek Reservoir
Prairie Creek Reservoir, located in an agricultural water in east central Indiana, serves as a secondary
drinking water supply for Muncie, IN and offers various recreational activities. Monitoring of the
streams and knowledge of its water quality is very limited. This study assessed water quality at five
major tributaries and outfall to support future management decisions. Keywords. Eutrophication,
nutrients, monitoring, streams, reservoir INTRODUCTION In 2014, 43% of all U.S. lakes and
reservoirs were classified as impaired due to not fulfilling one or more designated uses; nutrients and
agriculture were the primary factor and source causing impairments (U.S. EPA 2014). Commercial
fertilizers designed to increase crop productivity can promote biological productivity in waters
draining agricultural lands; fertilizers contribute nearly 57,000 tons of total nitrogen into the White
River per year (Martin, 1996; Popovičová 2008). The continuous supply of nutrients to a water body
can produce algal blooms, intense growth of macrophytes that can lead to dissolved oxygen depletion,
and stress on aquatic environments (Dodds and Welch 2000; U.S. EPA 2002, 2012; Søndergaard et al.
2003; USGS 2013, 2014). Eutrophication can adversely influence recreation, drinking water supply,
industrial uses, and fisheries due to objectionable appeal, fish kills, influx of sedimentation, taste and
odor of drinking water, and increased prices in drinking water treatment (Walker 1983; Carpenter,

  • 2. An Owner s Manual For My Trek Bicycle Technical documents in most cases are really important, mainly because it helps explain the needs and procedures of a product/research. Technical documents can include anywhere from an owner s manual, to a journal article, to blogs in which case, I m choosing an owner s manual for my TREK bicycle. One of the nicest features of this manual that distinguishes it from many other owner s manual is the fact that it provides not only a hardcopy of the manual but also a compact disc (CD). On the CD, the customer has the ability to get a translated version of the manual. When I bought the bike, TREK authorized dealer, provided me with a physical copy which was solidly in English which is not a problem for me but customers in other regions of the United States or other parts of the world may need a translated manual in order to understand it. With the CD, English as second language customers have the same ability as I do to understand the manual rather than having to go to translators or translating websites. So TREK does not really have a specific range of customers they are targeting but if you speak other languages than those on the website would be problem but they still have the ability to link the manual on the CD to the company website in order to check for other languages TREK may have translated into. After reading majority of the manual, I can conclude that the manual basically meets all the requirement of the excellence in technical documents. The manual is honest in the ... As I was running through the woods, I saw how gorgeous the forest really is. The wind in my blonde curly hair, rain drops dripping off the bright green leaves onto me it cooled me off. I sat down on a rock to take a break and I noticed a weird looking bush that didn t have thorns or anything growing around it. It looked like a door.... As I get up to walk over to the dark green door that blended in with the leaves. I touch the small handle and open the door up slowly, there is a bright orange path. I stepped onto the path and the door shut quickly behind me. As I walked along the path I saw a shiny silver key. As I picked the key up I noticed that it was a skeleton key! Although it was strange because it looked brand new. I decided to keep the key in my pocket and to keep walking.. As I got further along in the path I saw something else. As I got closer to the object I noticed that it was shiny as well. I realized that it was a shiny golden cup made of glass. It was absolutely gorgeous, it had a E on the side. The cup had no marks, scratches, or anything. First I find a key now a cup! I picked the cup up very carefully and decided to keep walking.... The Disaster Of The Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster Engineering Disaster Newton s third law of motion states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction; this law is not only applied in our studies but in our daily lives. For engineers, this is a law to live by; reminding each engineer that each of his/her actions will have an equal consequence whether it is good or bad. Engineers are trusted and respected individuals who represent not only themselves but the profession as a whole; their title gives them a great responsibility and a reputation to carry. On rare occasions do engineers make mistakes that sometimes lead to disasters that impact the lives of many. For every disaster that occurs as a result of an engineering mistake; thousands of lessons are learned. One disaster that impacted the lives of many and was labelled as the worst engineering disaster in history is the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The chain of events that lead to this disaster where taken as lessons and used to write many of today s engineering codes of ethics, and improve safety regulations in various industries. • 7. The Beat Movement And Kerouac s On The Road The beat movement is expressed the social and literary nonconformity of artists, poets, and writers. The word beat originally meant weary but came to refer as well to a musical beat. Followers of this movement, called beats or beatniks, lived nonconformist lives. They tended to shun regular work and sought a higher consciousness through Zen Buddhism, music, and, sometimes, drugs. Works that capture the essence of this era include Allen Ginsberg s long, free verse poem, Howl, published in 1956, and Jack Kerouac s novel of the movement, On the Road, published in 1957. Alan Freed s listeners responded enthusiastically, and Freed began promoting the new music that grew out of rhythm and blues and country and pop. He called the music rock n roll. In the early and mid 1950s, Richard Penniman, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and His Comets, and especially Elvis Presley brought rock n roll to a frantic pitch of popularity among the newly affluent teens who bought their records. This was an unmitigated catastrophe, but it spawned one of the most important security debates in recent memory. The FBI wanted to unlock one of the suspects phones, but were unable to do so because of security measures on the phone. The FBI wanted to brute force the password lock on the iPhone, but device would wipe itself after 10 failed attempts to unlock the iPhone. Thus, the FBI asked Apple to create an intentionally insecure iOS update, specifically for this iPhone, in order to bypass the security restrictions. Apple disagreed with the FBI, and tried to avoid helping the FBI in such a way, arguing it would undermine the purpose of security itself. Overall, Apple has the best argument, both legally and as a matter of public policy. Primarily, the FBI wants to protect American citizens from malicious threats, in this case terrorism. Unlocking the iPhone in question could give extremely important information, not only to the case itself, but to potential terrorist agents worldwide. The San Bernardino killers may have contacted others for assistance, and the FBI will not be able to bring them to justice without aid from Apple. The belief behind this effect is that the individual requested to engage in the simpler task or tasks will develop a sense of confidence or willingness after the task has been completed. Essentially, after each smaller task, the participant will more likely be willing to engage in the difficult task. This is what is considered to be a confidence builder and it allows for the individual to feel more confortable in performing the difficult task. The Foot in the door effect is also considered to be a technique relatively consistent based on its initial task. In comparison to the Foot In The Door Effect, the Door In The Face Effect can be defined as the persuaders attempt to convince their participants to initially undertake a difficult task prior to engaging in less difficult tasks in hopes for increasing compliance. • 21. Comprehensive Preparation For A Complete Life Comprehensive Preparation for a Complete Life Teen pregnancy has been a serious social issue for quite a while. Often, a teen pregnancy is detrimental for both the teen and the child involved. Both a teen mother and her child are more susceptible to complications during the pregnancy and birth than and adult mother and her child. Unfortunately, a teen mother and her infant are also less likely to pursue and receive healthcare to alleviate these health risks (Teen Pregnancy). Moreover, teen pregnancy is often cited as a factor that perpetuates the cycle of poverty, since teen mothers are likely to be poor in the first place, and their children are likely to grow up to be poor (Teen Pregnancy). While there is no argument that teens should be educated to prevent teen pregnancy, there is a debate on how it should be done. Currently, there are two forms of education focused on reducing teen pregnancies: abstinence only education and comprehensive sex education with birth control. However, sex education and birth control are clearly the superior option, due to its effectiveness and the futility of abstinence only education. Comprehensive sex education with an emphasis on birth control is a much more effective educational tool to prevent teen pregnancy than abstinence only education. Fortunately, teen pregnancy rates have fallen dramatically in the past 20 years. Through overt and covert ways, sports media has continued to promote a masculine representation of sports (Millington Wilson, 2010; Messener, Duncan, Jensen, 1993). By understanding the way in which sports media portrays sports, one can recognize how masculinity has dominated the world of sports. With the aid of two unique studies of sports media, this paper will critique the way in which media has effected the gendered depiction of sports. Study Summary In order to thoroughly understand sports media, it is critical to understand the way in which sports media impacts its consumers. Millington and Wilson (2010) explores the impact of sports media by focusing on its impact on a group of boys in a Vancouver High School. Millington and Wilson (2010) analyze the way in which sports media impacts ones activity in physical education and the way in which one interprets sports media. Through their research, Millington and Wilson (2010) found that young boys are equally susceptible to the impacts of both physical education and sports media. While the impacts may vary, both sports media and physical education promotes the importance of masculinity in sports and general society (Millington Wilson, 2010). (Voyages into World History Vol 1 3rd edition, Chapter 15, PPT slide 10 16) Serfs were members of the lowest social class. They were assigned and attached to the land owned by the nobles and required to perform labor with a certain amount of work for an amount of free time. A serf was very similar to the indentured slave, in the seventeenth to eighteenth centuries. Then there was the slave who worked on the noble s properties with no release. (Voyages into World History Vol 1 3rd edition, Chapter 15, p. 485) In contrast, the Inca social structure was based on equality. • 27. Qing China And Tokugawa China For many students around the world, ethnocentrism is a real, serious issue that impedes understanding and success. One example of how this ethnocentrism invades the minds of the average American and distorts their thoughts is by asking them to compare different Asian histories or cultures, to which they will likely reply they re all the same. In addition to being ethnocentric, this viewpoint is just plain wrong. Take, for example, Qing China and Tokugawa Japan. Though these two Asian empires had many things in common, they are far from being the same. Qing China refers to the period of Chinese history between 1644 and 1911, when the foreign Manchus established a dynasty and ruled over China, calling themselves the Qing. The non Chinese tribes that came to power at this time were from the area that would later be called Manchuria. Geographically, Qing China grew three times the size of what it was under the Ming, expanding north to include areas of Mongolia and Manchuria, as well as west. The country was divided into provinces, with each province being managed and governed under tusi, or native chieftains. The region of China is largely mountainous, with the majority of the population densely packed near the coast and around the Yellow River Valley. After establishing their rule, the Manchus created a new dynasty and declared a new emperor, carrying on the traditional Chinese system of government and administration that had existed since the time of the Tang. • 28. Descriptive Essay On The Night In The City We would walk through the city every night. It would not be an 80 degree night, no, more like a 68 degree night, where all you need is warm sweater to shelter your kidneys. No wind, no rain, just the empty air. You and I and the empty air. As much as we adored hanging out during the shinning days, we always favored the night. The night had more intimate and exclusive qualities. The night has a misty glow that makes the world shine in a way that the sun fails to achieve. The night conceals itself behind an unlit cloak and requires effort to unravel the true beauty underneath. That s how it feels existing around you. It s similar to having an exhausting day and all that is anticipated is the night. You can stroll to relaxation and contentment. You are my night. When we are together, I suppose, it is only for the moon to see. We would walk through the city every night, specifically on the sidewalk and the rhythmic clicks of my boots echoed throughout the entire block. My boots wanted to show you off to the entire city. Each click lets everyone know that I am with you and no one else. Each click lets everyone know that I am confident and delighted when I am around you. Each click lets everyone know that I am not ashamed of who I am around you. However, your shoes would not make any noise. They never do. We would walk through the city every night at the same pace. On this particular day, protesters sought to send a message to President Donald Trump regarding women s rights. Known as the Women s March, this event is only one of the more recent examples of large scale protest and dissent on the National Mall. Throughout American history, protest movements have often made their way to Washington, D.C., the capital city and political center of the United States. This principle is particularly relevant in understanding the Civil Rights Movement s utilization of the National Mall. In August 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders planned a prayer pilgrimage to the Lincoln Memorial, where King delivered his most famous speech on its steps. King s choice to deliver his speech at this memorial was undeniably deliberate. Abolitionist President Lincoln led the United States through the Civil War and gained a reputation as the man who ended slavery. King s speech, delivered at the memorial that honored that man, outlined the principles of racial equality focusing on many of the shortcomings in American society. King s choice of venue suggested that although the Lincoln Memorial celebrated equality in principle, the United States had a long way to go regarding this issue. This demonstration s use of a feature on the National Mall demonstrated the hypocrisy of it, as the public space honored a doctrine that was not universally practiced in everyday American life. This march was one of the first of its kind, but it was certainly not the last. • 33. Marlowe Influences On Doctor Faustus Christopher Marlowe Water supports a seed to grow into a beautiful flower, just as Christopher Marlowe s works watered the seed of the Renaissance and Elizabethan literature. The Renaissance was characterized by new ideas and thinking, which created many influential writers from this time. Christopher Marlowe is known as a talented writer from the late sixteenth through early eighteenth centuries. He and many other writers of this time created new ways of writing and impacted it in other ways. Marlowe was considered the most important playwright before Shakespeare, but his entire career lasted six years because of his untimely death when he was twenty nine. His most famous work, Doctor Faustus, is based on the Faust Legend, a German classic, in which a scholar sells his soul to the devil in exchange for more power and knowledge (Biography.com). Christopher Marlowe s tragic play, The Tragic History of Doctor Faustus, had major influences in the development of Elizabethan literature during the mid sixteenth century in England. Christopher Marlowe uses the new idea of thinking in this play to represent the people of his time. By intertwining religion with morality in Doctor Faustus, Marlowe shows the common conflicts of the people during this period. • 41. The Structure Of Animal And Plant Cells Question one: the differences between the structure of animal and plant cells In general both animal cells and plant cells have the similar structures, however they do have some differences. Plant cells have a cell wall, this strengthens the cell,it also gives it shape and protects it from infection. Plant cells also have chloroplasts which absorb light energy, this is vital for photosynthesis. Plant cell also have a vacuole, however unlike the ones found in animal cells they are much larger. Vacuoles store food and nutrients essential for the plants survival it may also contain cell sap, this keeps the cell large and swollen with water. They may even store waste products for the cell. This can prevent the cell from contamination.(1) Another difference is the position of the nucleus in the cells. In a plant cell it s positioned on the outer edges of the cell this is because the vacuole takes place in the middle of the cell. In a nucleus there is the majority of the cell s. It also contain genetic material and DNA for the cell. (2) In animal cells the general position of the nucleus is in the middle of the cell. Plant cells don t have a certain shape however they do have a structure that resembles a rectangle shape, this is due to the rigid cell wall they have.(10) Animal cells on the other hand do not have a distinct cell wall, they have an irregular shape. From the things he does to the things that he says, he is perceived, by the means of literary analysis, as a Christ figure. For one thing, Santiago is a fisherman. This is the clearest biblical allusion in the entire novel, and it comes straight from the title itself. His endurance throughout the book also reflects the spirit of faith that Christ had, giving us the impression that the old man might have some sort of unspoken bond with the fish, like Christ with his strong love for humanity. The old man struggles and even succeeds in his attempt to catch the fish, only to see it ripped and torn away from him. This is parallel to the story of Christ, who had to bear suffering and betrayal until his death. In many senses, Santiago s endeavor symbolizes the labor of Christ described in the Gospels. The Ichthys has its origin from the well known miracle about how Christ fed five thousand with five small loaves and two fish . The religious symbolism behind the Jesus Fish is reiterated a multitude of times throughout the Bible. Several of Jesus disciples are fisherman, and He even goes as far as to tell them that he will make them fishers of men . Further ahead, Jesus is offered grilled fish after having been resurrected. Aregai 1 The Enlightened Archaeologist an article authored by Jeffrey Hantman and Gary Dunham chronicles Thomas Jefferson s investigation of the Indian burial mound located on the South Fork of the Rivanna River in the 18th century. The site excavated by Jefferson, however, is no longer visible, most likely due to dissipation by inevitable natural occurrences (I.E. excessive rainfall, flooding rivers, etc.) or human activity such as farming. The Father of American Archaeology correctly predicts the latter in his book, Notes on the State of Virginia, in which he states, mounds ...put under cultivation are much reduced in their height, and spread in width, by the plough, and will probably disappear in time (1787). Fortunately for Archaeologists of the late 20th century (1988) an Indian burial mound identical to that of the one Jefferson described in his book was uncovered just 14 miles from the South Fork of the Rivanna River. The Rapidan mound in spite of being reduced to its southern edge, provided archaeologists Hantman, Dunham, and colleagues a unique, yet waning opportunity to record and excavate the quickly abrading site. What they discovered from their digging surprised them; the content and order within the mound also resembled Thomas Jefferson s descriptive notes. However, what he noted as the random placement of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Was Gerald Ford s Presidency A Success Or A Failure The Presidency of Gerald Ford It is difficult to decide whether the presidency of America s 38th President, Gerald Ford was a success or a failure. In his short time in office, Ford managed to leave a mixed legacy of controversy and satisfaction. Many of the decisions made during Gerald Ford s presidency are questioned as to whether they were positive or negative for the country. Some of the most disputable issues from the Ford presidency have been debated and have drastically changed public opinion. Ford s presidency was a temporary failure but can be considered successful in the long term. Ford became the President of the United States unlike any other president before him and was considered the accidental president. President Richard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the late 1960 s and the early 70 s, America suffered from extreme national inflation. Prices of goods dramatically increased while money decreased in value. Meanwhile, employment rates soared because of the baby boomer population increase. The situation became so chaotic that the term stagflation was created to describe what was going on. Stagflation was defined as a period of time with high unemployment and inflation rates. Since there were a majority of Democrats in Congress, Ford wanted to create a grassroots movement in order to influence the government to solve the economic crisis. Ford addressed this problem during a speech in 1974 where he proclaimed, There is only one point on which all advisers have agreed: We must whip inflation right now (Ford). Inspired by this speech, large red buttons with the slogan Whip Inflation Now were handed out to the public. Many historians agree that this campaign turned into a failure. Ford tried to succeed but the buttons were easily criticized for looking childish and inflation grew throughout the rest of the 70 s. The WIN campaign may have failed but Ford did not give up on the economy. On October 15th 1974, Ford passed the Federal Elections Campaign Act of 1974 which greatly managed political spending for the first time since the 1920 s. After some time, the process to help the economy started to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. The Flixborough Disaster As A System And The Impact Of... This paper seeks to use the Flixborough disaster as a case study to point out the need for systems thinking in industrial activities. There have been many industrial disasters but one that stands out in its category of Temporary Modifications is the Flixborough disaster. Using a couple of systems thinking tools described in Anderson and Johnson s (1997) book; Systems Thinking Basics, we outline all the events leading to the disaster in comparison to the possible outcome if systems thinking had been applied. One example of systems thinking is OSHA s process safety management standard. Based on the models used in this paper, it can generally be inferred that with the right systemic approach, industrial accidents can be totally eliminated. Numerous events have occurred over time in industry. Some of these events have paved the way for safe activities in today s industry. One such event is the Flixborough Disaster. My objective in this paper is to analyze the Flixborough Disaster as a system and the impact of process safety management on industry safety. The Flixborough Disaster is the most famous of all temporary modifications disasters where a temporary pipe was installed in the Nypro Factory at Flixborough. It failed two months later (Kletz, 1998). The disaster was an explosion of warlike dimensions which occurred at about 4.53 PM on Saturday June 1st 1974 and left the Flixborough works of ... • 50. A Study On Water Creek Reservoir Prairie Creek Reservoir, located in an agricultural water in east central Indiana, serves as a secondary drinking water supply for Muncie, IN and offers various recreational activities. Monitoring of the streams and knowledge of its water quality is very limited. This study assessed water quality at five major tributaries and outfall to support future management decisions. Keywords. Eutrophication, nutrients, monitoring, streams, reservoir INTRODUCTION In 2014, 43% of all U.S. lakes and reservoirs were classified as impaired due to not fulfilling one or more designated uses; nutrients and agriculture were the primary factor and source causing impairments (U.S. EPA 2014). Commercial fertilizers designed to increase crop productivity can promote biological productivity in waters draining agricultural lands; fertilizers contribute nearly 57,000 tons of total nitrogen into the White River per year (Martin, 1996; Popovičová 2008). The continuous supply of nutrients to a water body can produce algal blooms, intense growth of macrophytes that can lead to dissolved oxygen depletion, and stress on aquatic environments (Dodds and Welch 2000; U.S. EPA 2002, 2012; Søndergaard et al. 2003; USGS 2013, 2014). Eutrophication can adversely influence recreation, drinking water supply, industrial uses, and fisheries due to objectionable appeal, fish kills, influx of sedimentation, taste and odor of drinking water, and increased prices in drinking water treatment (Walker 1983; Carpenter, ...
