Prokaryotes And Eukaryotes
Cells, a unique characteristic of life and the start of humanity at its finest. Discovered in 1653,
by a man named of Robert Hooke, coined the term Cells and was credited with it as well. The
scientist said it reminded him of the cells of a monastery. These building blocks of life could be
broken down into several different parts but the main two parts are prokaryote and eukaryote.
Prokaryotes are one celled organisms such as bacteria. Prokaryotes are able to thrive in very harsh
conditions including hydrothermal vents, hot springs, swamps, wetlands, and even the guts of
humans and animals, called extremophiles. Prokaryotes contain a set amount of organelles in which
are a cellwall, DNA, and cytoplasm. They do not reside a nucleus, but contains... Show more

The mitochondria takes glucose the chloroplast has produced and turns into Adenosine
Triphosphate better known as ATP. The energy source for this plant gives it the ability to
regulate a limited amount of power throughout the cell to perform its usual duties to help the cell
reproduce and maintain its general stability. Along the line another special organelle the helps
the cell regulates the waste products, which is known as the Lysosomes. Lysosomes contain
special enzymes called hydrolytic enzymes that digests the worn out organelles, macromolecules,
and breaks down viruses as well. The Lysosomes comes from the endoplasmic reticulum through
transport vesicles and goes to the Golgi body and that there the Lysosomes then transfers off of
the membrane bound organelle and then awaits the arrival of an intruder through phagocytosis.
Phagocytosis is the process by which a cell often a phagocyte or a protist engulfs a solid particle
to form an internal vesicle known as a phagosome. This here breaks down the invader and
dissolves it to heal the cell. This masculine like structure also breaks down dead organelles and
puts it back into the cell recycling its nutrients for it to use

Samuel Popkin on Candidates Running for President and Vice...
During the Roosevelt and Kennedy administrations, political science and policymaking had a
close relationship. However, this has changed in recent years. However, Samuel Popkin argues
that they can still be one in the same. Popkin makes the case that qualities such as character or
even a voting record do not actually affect whether the candidate or not will win the Presidency
election. In fact, the team surrounding the candidate is a much larger, if not the most import
variable in determining his fate in the election. Popkin also speaks of the candidate himself as
well as his team saying, Anyone audacious enough to run must also be agile and resilient, and it
is that candidate s assembled team that determines the level of the candidate s agility and
resilience. Popkin goes on to explain important components of the team, one of them being the
chief of staff. He writes that The single most important part of a successful team is a chief of
staff strong enough to be an honest broker, and to beware because Weak chiefs of staff are the
biggest reason campaigns flounder. The chief of staff s ideal, major responsibility is to act as the
gatekeeper to the presidential candidate and to make sure that the rest of the team is not giving
too much advice making it harder to make a decision. A candidate who takes counsel from too
many people such as analysts, family, or other may have trouble deciding who to listen to which
could eventually lead into organizational issues as well as

Back Bay Battery Strategy Essay
1.What was your strategy going into the simulation? Market data analysis stressed two main facts:
i) the promising potential of ultracapacitors and ii) surfacing mature market conditions for
conventional NiMH batteries. The first piece of information implied that it would be critical to
beat the competition and be the first company to offer customers the features and benefits they
demanded in the new product. That would have allowed Back Bay to gain a competitive advantage
and keep existing customers (that could easily switch from the company s conventional batteries to
the company s ultracapacitors) as well as attract new ones. The second piece of information implied
that demand for my core business products would soon start to decline... Show more content on

Only later in the second year did I learn that self discharge was also a very important feature
(specifically to the Power Packs market). 2.Did that strategy work for you? Why or why not? My
strategy seemed to work well for the first two years but then it became evident that I was losing
market share in the NiMH business. I decided to cut down R D in that division too early and that
caused me to miss my sales targets. As I lost market share in my core business, the volume effect
from my decision to lower NiMH prices did not compensate enough to allow that division to
remain profitable. Suddenly, I had a very tight R D budget to work with (as it was based on sales
projections) and limited cash could be allocated to the improvement of the ultracapacitors business.
I also reacted too late to the shift in customers demand for Power Packs products from Power Tools
products, which caused late and lower than needed investments in other products features such as
self discharge (high priority for both NiMH and ultracapacitors). 3.After having run through the
simulation, what elements of that strategy would you have changed and/or what strategy do you
intend to pursue in the group simulation? I believe that the fundamentals and criteria of my
strategic approach were pointing in the right direction. I assumed that the high growth potential
market was for

Thomas Tom or Tommy Simpson (30 November 1937 13 July 1967) was one of Britain s most
successful professional cyclists. He was born in Haswell, County Durham and later moved to
Harworth, Nottinghamshire. Simpson began road cycling as a teenager before taking up track
cycling, specialising in pursuit races. He won a bronze medal for track cycling at the 1956
Summer Olympics and a silver at the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games. In 1959, at
age 21, Simpson was signed by the French professional road racing team St. RaphaГ«l

Semiotics in Art History
The Oxford English Dictionary defines semiotics as [the] science of communication studied
through interpretation of signs and symbols as they operate in various fields, especially language.
Semiology is characterized as the science of signs which studies the life of signs within society.
Signs include, among others, sounds, images, words, odors, objects; they are concepts that stand
for something else in a system of signification. They allow us to communicate a concept or an idea
while it is physically absent. In art history, the simplest description of semiology consists of the
translation of an image into words. Two prominent founders of the contemporary sign theories are
Peirce and Saussure. Although they focus on the same... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This idea is intrinsically related to the concepts of the sender and the viewer, which will be
discussed in the next sections of this paper. The second issue discussed by the art historians is the
sender of a work. In this section, Bal and Bryson define and differentiate the composition of the
artist of a work. First, there is the concept of the sender as an individual, or J. Bloggs, as they call
him. J. Bloggs stands for the name of the individual, a designation, not a description;[...] it does not
assign any particular characteristics to its bearer (p.181). The second aspect of the sender is the
author, which is in the works, in a body of artifacts and in the complex operations performed on
them (p.181). It is the notions of enframement that distinguishes J.Bloggs from the author, which is
what Bal and Bryson identify as an elaborate work of framing, something we can elaborately
produce rather than something we simply find (p. 181). The art historian, Culler, explains that
authorship is given, not produced, as he states that what counts as authorship is determined by
interpretative strategies (p.181). Thus, in simpler terms, the author or artist could be produced in
the sense that his attributed works and other interpretable material, and ultimately produce a
conception. Attributions are said to be evidenced through material traces of the author in the work,

Symbolism In Roman Fever
Roman Fever, by Edith Wharton, follows two old friends, Alida Slade and Grace Ansley,
accidentally meeting in Rome after many years apart. The two have a long history together and
spent their whole lies in contest and conflict. Mrs. Slade is a loud and jealous woman, who
always held a deep rooted resentment for Mrs. Ansley. Mrs. Ansley is the more reserved of the two
and self controlled. The setting of their conversation holds deep significance. Mrs. Ansley and Mrs.
Slade both coincidentally are on vacation in Rome, a place of love and beauty. The two eat dinner
together on a terrace overlooking Rome. The romantic scenery reflects the origin of their rivalry. In
their youth, both women vied for the attention of a young man, Delphin Slade. Mrs. Slade seems
anxious to prove her worth over her longtime friend, however, in reality, Mrs. Ansley is the one who
has influence over Mrs. Slade. Wharton uses moonlight and knittingto reveal Mrs. Slade s shallow
attempts to project and hold power over Mrs. Ansley, but her ultimate failure since in the end it is
Mrs. Slade who falls apart.
Moonlight serves as a motif, the darker it inches to night, the darker the nature of the women s
conversation, and the more panicked Mrs. Slade is. They sit outside, talking about their daughters
in the light of the evening or exchanging in a deep silence. It seemed as though, to both, as there
was a relief in laying down their somewhat futile activities in the presence of the vast Memento

Family Law In Australia
Family Law is a diverse and specialised branch of law, being both emotional and complex.
However, despite this family law is relatively effective in achieving just and fair outcomes for
couples and status for children, yet ineffective in resolving disputes over children and domestic
violence issues.
Although marriage is a societal value, there has been a sharp increase in the instances of alternative
family relationships, a phenomenon the law has been relatively quick to respond to. BOCSAR
figures show that from 1987 to 2007, the number of married couples developed from 63% to 62%,
which in the same period the number of de facto relationships (both heterosexual and homosexual)
grew from 6% to 9%. As such, a new movement sources desire for ... Show more content on

The Family Law Amendment (Shared Parental Responsibility) Act 2006, despite having good
intentions was criticized for its friendly parent provisions , which deterred women from raising
issues of domestic violence. In response to this, the government passed the Family Law
Amendment (Family Violence and other Measures) Act (2011), which stipulated that family
violence be a key consideration in deciding who the residential parent was to be. However, Adivia
Sifiris in the Right Now article Impacts of Family Law Amendments criticized the mediation
process, stating that violent spouses are still able to intimidate. Thus, despite the resource
efficiency of mediation processes ( $3000 a mediation session compared to a $10,000 day trial ,
February 2012, SMH), further work needs to be done in order to ensure that the resolution to
disputes protects the rights of the vulnerable spouse.
The issue of Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) Family Law is yet another point of the legal
system s failings. ABS figures show that ATSI women are nine times more likely to be victims of
domestic violence, with 70% of ATSI children being subject to abuse ( Crying out for a new
beginning , March 2013, SMH). Once again, the government s resource inefficiency is brought into

Essay on The Redemption of King Lear
The Redemption of King Lear?
Shakespeare s play, King Lear is quite renowned and the folly of the ancient King is a
great example of how not to handle family relationships. The question has been proposed
if King Lear is redeemed when reunited with Cordelia. King Lear does achieve a kind of
redemption when he is reunited with Cordelia in Acts IV and V of the tragedy. What kind
of redemption he achieves is open to interpretation. In order to understand the King s
redemption, it must be determined what the King is redeemed from. Once this sin is
established, an analysis can be made as to when the King is redeemed, and how. ... Show more

Optical And Analog Image Processing
In imaging science, image processing is processing of images using mathematical operations by
using any conformation of signal processing for which the input is an image, such as a picture or
video frame, the out turn of image processing may be either an image or a set of features or
parameters corrsponding to the image. Most image processing techniques implicate treating the
image as a 2D signal and appealing worth signal processing techniques to it.
Image processing usually refers to digital image processing, but optical and analog image
processing also are possible. This article is about general techniques that apply to all of them. The
acquisition of images (producing the input image in the first place) is referred to as imaging.
Closely related to image processing are computer graphics and computer vision. In computer
graphics, images are manually made from physical models of objects, environments, and lighting,
instead of being acquired (via imaging devices such as cameras) from natural scenes, as in most
animated movies. Computer vision, on the other hand, is often considered high level image
processing out of which a machine/computer/software intends to decipher the physical contents of
an image or a sequence of images (e.g., videos or 3D full body magnetic resonance scans).
In modern sciences and technologies, images also gain much broader scopes due to the ever
growing importance of scientific visualization (of often large scale complex scientific/experimental

Persuasive Essay On Society
People think of me as a mannequin. All show and no substance. It s not often that someone can say
that they have something in common with a celebrity; however, unfortunately I can. Brooke
Shields, the well known model turned actress that verbalized my thoughts, and I are alike in one
way; both of us have been molded into life size dummies. The object that best represents me is a
mannequin. I have discovered this through universal, personal and practical avenues of inquiry.
Firstly, we don t often think about how a life size dummy relates to us as humans or the impact
they ve had on our society as a whole; however, they play a major role in the way we view
ourselves as individuals and function as a collective society. We preach about how precious
individuality is, but intentionally or not, we often strive to become identical to the perceptions of
perfection in society. As a matter of fact, mannequins are often perceived as a universal image of
perfection due to their figures, the various on trend outfits they display, and sometimes even the
human like faces painted onto them. As young children, whenever we go shopping with our
parents we would stumble across displays that would showcase little boys and girls with cool ,
new outfits and toys and we would attempt to convince our parents to buy them. As we get into
our teen years, often as girls, we see the mannequins as constant reminders of what we strive to be
based on whatever the ideal body type may be in the present

Television Advertising For Prescription And...
Pharmaceutical companies have been using a lot of various strategies to market their medications,
notably in a contentious and lucrative market for prescriptions and non prescription medications.
Kornfield, Donohue, Berndt, and Alexander (2013, p. 1) argued that the United States profoundly
advertised pharmaceuticals and spent at least $30 billion dollars on publicity and selling of these
products. In this written assignment I will be presenting a summary of an interesting article from
Faerber and Kreling (2013) titled: Content Analysis of False and Misleading Claims in Television
Advertising for Prescription and Nonprescription Drugs.
On the words of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (2013), marketing is defined as an
administration method, accountable for recognizing, predicting and capturing customer demands
profitably.
Faerber and Kreling (2013, p. 111) conducted a content analysis examining how substantial is a
consumer targeted advertising using the television as an instrument to relay these drug information
to the public and how accurate are the claim of drug effectiveness from the truth. The investigators
gathered commercial segments containing the advertisements of prescription and non prescription
drugs from 2008 through 2010. The multimedia data was randomly selected from the Vanderbilt
Television News Archive. Three coders were trained to classify the advertisement claims, and rate
the accuracy of the data from the evidence. Again, Faerber and Kreling

Class Twitch Recombination Essay
Somatic hypermutations and Class Switch Recombination.
When B cells have successfully rearranged their IgH and IgL loci and express a BCR they will
leave the bone marrow as immature B cells and become transitional B cells that migrate to
secondary lymphoid tissues. In the lymphoid tissues B cells may be exposed to antigen and the
initial antigen encounter will initiate a dynamic cascade of cell signalling events that ultimately
promotes cellular activation and proliferation57 60. In the secondary lymphoid organs this area of
B cell expansion is a visible structure and termed the germinal centre (GC)61. As B cells divide,
their receptor undergoes somatic hypermutation (SHM); a mechanism whereby the IgH and IgL

SHM occurs by two mechanisms: 1) DNA replication reads the uracil as a thymidine and pairs it
with an adenine which results in a C to T or G to A transition. This type of mutation only requires
AID activity68, 69. 2) Uracil is a pyrimidine normally found in RNA and the base excision repair
system will therefore attempt to correct the mistake by removing the uracil. This creates an abasic
site in the DNA strand. The removal of the uracil is executed by an enzyme called uracil N
glycosylase (UNG)70, 71. In the abasic site a random nucleotide may be inserted leading to both
transitions (G:C into A:T) and transversions (G:C into C:G)68. Ultimately, for both mechanisms it
is the misreading of a low fidelity polymerase that is responsible for the introduction of the point
mutation72, 73. AID only binds single stranded (ss) DNA and thus only functions on actively
transcribed alleles where transcription temporarily separates of the two DNA strands within the
transcription bubble74 76. Sequencing studies support this in that mutations only occur
downstream of the VH gene promoter suggesting the importance of this promoter for AID activity.
It is hypothesized that AID is recruited

Wounds Endured in The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien
Tim O Brien brings the Vietnam War back to life in The Things They Carried (1990) and
elucidates the wounds suffered by soldiers during and after the war. The three main characters in
this novel that exemplify the physical, social, and emotional wounds are Tim O Brien, Norman
Bowker, and Mark Fossie. These men go through immense pain both during and after the war,
which is not easy to heal. During the war, many soldiers get injured, incapacitated, and/or killed;
thus physical wounds are something that every soldier accepts both mentally and physically.
Tim O Brien is shot twice during the war. The first time he is shot, the medic Rat risks his life to
help Tim, but when he was shot the second time the new medic Jorgenson is too afraid to move,
and Tim nearly dies from shock. This injury has a big impact on Tim, and he is not only
physically wounded but also psychologically as he was traumatized from the incident. Tim
suffers a lot from his wound. For example, he says that a couple of weeks later my ass started to
rot away. You could actually peel off chunks of skin with your fingernail (190) but the worst part
for him is the shame. Tim O Brien explains that Pride isn t the right word. I don t know the right
word. All I know is, you shouldn t feel embarrassed. Humiliation shouldn t be part of it (191) and
this is why he wants to take revenge of Jorgenson. Although Tim overcomes the physical wound, he

Rifle Vs Spotting Scope Research Paper
Rifle Scope Vs Spotting Scope
When it comes to hunting, accuracy counts. You need to know that when you pull the trigger,
you are going to hit your target. If you do not, you will lose the capture. The same can be said for
all other forms of target shooting and the further away your target is, the harder it will be to hit
your mark. That is why there are so many who wonder which best, a rifle scope or a spotting scope.
Perhaps it is here that you will find the answer.
High End Rifle Scopes Vs a Spotting Scope

It is often a lot more stable to look through than a pair of binoculars or even a rifle scope because it
is designed to be used on a stationary tripod or some other stable surface.
Perhaps Use Both?
There are people who use both devices because they perform a different job. It is easier for many
to use the spotting scope rather than binoculars when they want to see over a long distance and it
also ensures that they are not possibly pointing their rifle at something they would not want to shoot.
There are also those people who feel that if you have a good rifle scope, you do not need to carry
more than absolutely necessary when you are out in the woods. They feel that their rifle scopes
are just as accurate as a spotting scope and that when they see a target, it is easier to use their rifle
and shoot at it rather than have to site it again. It all depends on how each individual feels about it.
How are They Most Useful?
A spotting scope is designed to be accurate while you are scanning the area for a potential target.
Then you can zero in on the target with your rifle scope and wait for a clear shot at it. They are
easier to use than binoculars and offer a very clear view of targets that are far

Criticism In Voltaire s Candide
Candide is Voltaire s most known literary work and most extensively read pieces of literature in

main character in the tale. The philosophical idea embodies optimism that is opposed by Voltaires

The directing force of the journey in this novel is Candide s love for CunГ©gonde. He goes to

Finally, Voltaire presents a Jesuit colonel with homosexual tendencies. Religious leaders carry

Greek tragedies were often seen as the foundation to literature not only for the Greeks but also on
a universal scale as well. Sophocles Oedipus Rex was one of the more infamous tales because of
its provocative and unorthodox nature. The tragedy features a man on a quest to prevent the events
of his prophesized life from coming to fruition. The key components of fate, destiny and timecan be
paralleled to the cult classic film Donnie Darko. In the movie, Donnie suffers from predictions of

cataclysmic incidents like that of Ashton Kutcher s character Evan Treborn in The Butterfly

Donnie ran into Grandma Death she whispered to him that All things die alone, ( Donnie Darko
) it can be seen just how tragic and miserable his life was going to be. After assessing the whole
film, it can be realized that she was right because Donnie inevitably died by himself without ever
having met Gretchen and without resolving his fight with his mother. Another event can be one
of the first encounters with Frank in which ended with 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, 12 seconds
( Donnie Darko ) being etched into his arm. He had his very own expiration date and end of the
world timeframe given to him. The very thought of knowing one s own time of death is absolutely
frightening and panic inducing. One of the deleted scenes off of the DVD provided more insight
into Donnie s mind and his acceptance of death: A storm is coming, Frank says.
A storm that will swallow the children, and I will deliver them from the kingdom of pain.
I will deliver the children back to their doorsteps;
I ll send the monsters back to the underground.

Cross-Cultural Communication Vs American Culture

Abstract
This paper is about comparing and contrasting the American style of communication and that of
Bahrain. Different countries have their own interpretation for every single issue based on their
culture background and their way of thinking. The most significant characteristics of American
culture are: individualism, equality, competition, freedom and privacy, action orientation,
directness, particularity, and a problem solving orientation. In Bahrain is somewhat the same as
other Arab countries, religion faith and local traditions play a large role in the people s lives,

events. Therefore they do a lot of plans to stay away from troubles. Also no one likes to take

Americans obey rules most of the time, but they see rules as someone else s idea of how they
should do things. They think the rule might have been appropriate in some other situation but it
might not be appropriate for their situation now. Therefore they break it and do what they think
is a better idea. Though Americans say, Rules are made to be broken, but they never say, Laws are
made to be broken. Laws are official legal and they proudly claim that in America, No one is above

In Bahrain popular people obey the rules, otherwise they will under the risk of detention. But
people who belong to the royal family and those are very rich, they do not care about rules or even
law they always break the law with any kind of accountability. In general, establishing business in
Bahrain is straightforward. The government of Bahrain vigorously seeks to increase foreign direct

Dr. Kant s Argument
Savulescu s argument also has some flaws in regards to his responses to a few possible objections
he talked about. One objection that Savulescu responds to is the objection that genes are
pleiotropic meaning they have different effects on different parts of the body (The Ethical Life,
454). The example given was that a genethat prompts depression might also be responsible for
heightened creativity and productivity (The Ethical Life, 454). Savulescu s response to that was
that we would have to limit interventions until our knowledge grows and we would have to do
more adequate research before expanding the types of interventions (The Ethical Life, 454). The
problem with that is that it requires experimenting and testing on children and embryos which
would be treating them as a means to an end rather than an end in itself. Kant would agree and
say that these children exist as an end in itself, not merely as a means to be used by this or that
will at its discretion (Kant, 96). Savulescu is suggesting research on children and embryos in order
to reach the goal of allowing genetic enhancement. He is using them as a means to his end result.
This is a major flaw as Kant would argue that treating peopleas an end is showing them the respect
they deserve while treating them as a means is just dealing with them so that they can help to
achieve the person s goal (Shafer Landau, 174). Therefore, a child should never be treated as a

Darby believes the collapse of the republic was one of the biggest benefits to Hitler s rise to
power. Since the collapse of Weimar was preventable, the war that followed should be too.
Clearly, Hitler s aggression was not inevitable because many events leading to Hitler s
aggression, rise to power, and WWII were preventable. On the other hand, some believe Hitler s
aggression was not preventable because he gained so much power in such a little time span;
there was no stopping him. Darby reasons, Although the Nazis had been making significant
electoral gains in regional elections in the first half of 1930, no one (not even Hitler) anticipated
the surge in support they received in September. Nearly 6. 5 million votes made the party the
second largest in the Reichstag, with 107 seats. With so many supporters, it was hard to stop

Mental Rotation Of Images Essay
Abstract
The idea of mental imagery has always been a controversial subject in the field of psychology.
Many psychologists have argued that such a concept is impossible to measure because it can not be
directly observed. Though they are right about this, it is not impossible to measure how quickly
mental rotations of images are processed in our brains. Subjects in this experiment were presented
two shapes simultaneously, via computer screen, and asked to make judgement, as quickly as
possible, as to whether the two shapes presented were the same or mirror images. Two different
shapes were used in this experiment, each given as often as the other. During each trial one shape
remained stationary and the other was rotated with varying ... Show more content on

Of the 66 students 30 took part in the mental rotation condition and 30 in the manual rotation
condition.
As expected, findings showed that there was in fact a strong relationship between the reaction times
of the mental and manual rotations. As the angular disparity of both the mental and manual
rotations increased so did reaction times. In almost all cases manual and mental reaction times
matched each other. It was also observed by Wohlschlager amp; Wohlschlager (1998), that manual
object rotation did not always follow the shortest path. Findings showed that in some trials students
rotated images the longer way around. Thus, it was concluded that mental processes also rotate
things the long way around, since reaction times did not differ much between the two groups,
ultimately supporting their original hypothesis.
Desrocher, Smith amp; Taylor (1995) conducted a similar experiment with intentions of measuring
reaction times. Only in this experiment the independent variable was not mental vs. manual
rotation, but gender. They were interested in seeing if gender differences played a role in regard to
reaction times, when presented with either a letter stimuli or picture stimuli. It has been noted that
up to the present time, there have been no major findings that show any significant difference in the
way men and woman process letter images. In tests, both men and woman performed equally well

The Influence Of Henry V
Fifteenth century England was divided between the houses of Lancaster (Henry IV, Henry V and

Henry V reigned from 1413 1422 and had many wars against
France, in particular the Battle
Of Agincourt in 1415. Henry was very religious as he says in his battle speech that god thinks it
is the right thing to do and that god is using Henry as a messenger. A quote from the chorus in Act
2 states that Henry is Following the mirror of all Christian kings. He is a Christian king and
believes that god controls chance. Therefore, everyone he rules has to be religious too.
Henry was confident that the economy would look after itself while he was away battling France.
Between 1417 and 1422 almost all the economic network of northern France was ruled by
Lancastrians but Henry could not fully draw on the economic resources because of the damage
from the war. Henry encouraged merchants to go to France to sell food to the starving population.

Data And Data Source Analysis
4. Data source analysis
Data is one of the important factors in data forecasting studies because data represents the whole
source of the business purpose of the study.
There are several reasons that the difference of data source makes it hard to compare prediction
accuracy from each other.
First, the result of a prediction model may differ with different data sources. Theoretically, the
more data we test, the more accurate result we can get, however, in real world, it is often hard to
collect as much data as desired. So a potential difficult question for all data prediction studies is that
how much data is enough.
Second, the quality of data source is crucial for prediction studies. Apparently, false data or noisy
data is not useful for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the similar target, Gordiievych and Shubin (2015) did not give any description of their data.
4.1.2. Different range and size of data
For airline prices prediction studies, it is a common practice to use time series data like airline ticket
prices. The date ranges of data used by different studies vary from several months to as long as 18
years.
For example, Chen et al. (2015) used 110 days of data in their study, and the other study from
Zhang et al. (2010) used 18 years of data to perform the experiment. Some studies did not specify
their date range of the data explicitly, such as Wohlfarth et al. (2011), Gordiievych and Shubin
(2015) and Cao, Ding, He, and Zhang (2010). Other studies chose other data lengths. Laik, Choy,
and Sen (2014) used one year of data, as the same length as Liu, Tan, and Zhou (2016). Yuan, Xu,
and Yang (2014), Ghomi and Forghani (2016), and An et al. (2016) used three years, six years, and
ten years respectively.
One reason these studies chose different ranges of data for analysis is very likely the fact that data
collection for a long time range is difficult. Those studies used data ranges longer than a year were
mostly using historical data either from proprietary

The Angolan Government
The Corruption of the Angolan Government
Imagine if you, living in the United States, lacked basic healthcare, and a basic education. Though
this may sound absurd to many, it is a reality for most of Angolan citizens. Angola is an African
nation located on the South west coast of Africa. Angolais North of Namibia, West of Zambia, and
South of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Angola s government type is a unitary state. In a
unitary government, the power is held by one central authority, but in a federal government, such
as: the United States, Canada and Australia, the power is divided between national (federal) and
local (state) governments. The president of Angola, Jose Dos Santos, has not focused on the
healthcare or education of his country s citizens throughout his 36 years in power. Dos Santos has

The Smart Grid And Smart Meter
Executive Summary
Electricity is widely used form of energy and it s rapidly growing nowadays. It has become to our
way of daily life. However, electrical energy generating is currently the largest single source of
carbon dioxide emissions, which has significantly make a contribution to climate change and the
impact of the environment. The electrical power system was built up more than 100 years ago. It is
one of the most effective components of the infrastructure on which delivers electrical energy to
commercial, industry and consumer demand.
However, in order to meet the growing demand for power and to reduce carbon dioxide emissions,
we need to have an electric system that can be used in a sustainable, reliable and economic way.
Smart grid and smart meters are the new power grids, which has been used in some countries to
obtain the sustainable uses. They hold potential to benefit customers and the environments.
This report is meant to give an overview about the smart grid and smart meters by describing what
is the smart grid and smart meter. In addition, it introduces several technologies from these power
grid systems and how these technologies impact on the environment and renewable resources. The
report also presents the benefits of using the smart grid and smart meters, which associated with

Taxes On Land And Property Essay
Taxes on land and property have both fiscal and non fiscal effects. The revenue such taxes produce
is often an important source of finance for local governments. The extent to which those
governments have control over property taxes is thus often an important determinant of the extent
to which they are able to make autonomous expenditure decisions. The level, design, and control of
property taxationare thus, in many countries, critical elements in effective decentralization policy.
But property taxes are not always local taxes, and whether they are or are not local, like all taxes
they must also be considered from a more general policy perspective. From this perspective,
property taxes may be viewed, depending upon one s assumptions, the environment in which they
are applied, and their design and effectiveness, as an equitable and efficient way of raising
revenue or they may be considered to be a regressive and undesirable form of public finance.
A large number of studies have shown that;
1. Property taxes are generally heavier on non residential (and especially commercial) properties
than on residential (single family) homes.
2. When there is considerable local discretion with respect to property taxes, there are also likely to
be great differences in effective tax rates.
In the instant case, we will discuss the system of taxation on the returns on property holding as
prevalent in the USA and evaluate its effect on, equity, housing prices, and the economy.

The Debate Over The Dormant Commerce Clause Essay
Though there are a plethora of Supreme Court cases relying on the dormant Commerce Clause to
invalidate state laws in order to uphold a national free market, there is also a long history of
dissenting justices in dormant Commerce Clause cases. For instance, Justices Antonin Scalia and
Clarence Thomas commonly criticize the dormant Commerce Clausein their opinions. This lack of
cohesion among Justices over the very existence of the legal concept makes it challenging for states
to determine whether they are crafting Constitutional legislation and difficult for district and
appeals judges to decide cases.
The main criticisms of the dormant Commerce Clause include that the doctrine forces judicial
activism, leads to unpredictable results, and lacks a theoretical basis in the Constitution. Justice
Thomas stated that the doctrine requires the court to function more as legislator than as judges
because of the policy judgements that judges must do when weighing competing interests at stake.
Justice Scalia criticized the doctrine, stating that it has been inherently unpredictable unpredictable
not just because we have applied its standards poorly or inconsistently, but because it requires us
and the lower courts to accommodate, like a legislature, the inevitably shifting variables of a
national economy. Scalia was particularly critical . . . disparaging the lack of any clear theoretical
underpinning for the doctrine.

Infrared Spectral Ranges For Imaging Application
Abstract: Infrared imaging is widely used in biochemical sensing, medical diagnosis, and
astronomy. In this summer High Scholar program, we will develop reflection microscopy
working at wide infrared spectral ranges for imaging application. Reflection microscopy is based on
gold coated parabolic mirrors which make the microscope accessible to visible, infrared, and even
terahertz lightwithout chromatic aberration. Here, we will design and build a reflection
microscope, and obtain visible and infrared images of simple biological samples such as onion cells
to study a resolution and other potential functions of the home built microscope.
Introduction: An optical microscope is an instrument that allows us to view micrometer scale
objects in a larger image. [Carl Zeiss] The microscope uses a compound lens which allows to get
maximum magnification. The compound lens is made up of multiple lenses that have a
common axis, allowing for a high magnification to be possible. The microscope consists of
objective lens and eyepiece. The objective lens is a vital part of a microscope since the lens
provides a few different variations of power for magnification, and the eyepiece magnification
power helps multiply the objective lens power, which will create a large amount of magnification.
However, a microscope image is limited by a lens material. Glass (fused silica) is only transparent
to visible light and it cannot be used for infrared light. Recently, infrared imaging has been used

The Life And Work Of Joseph Stalin
Joseph Stalin, leader of Russia (1928 1953), created a Five Year Plan that included methods and
goals which were detrimental to Russian agriculture in 1928. Stalin wanted to transform individual
farms into large collective farms because he saw that the government was losing money to private
traders. This required that the majority of farmers would have to work and live together on large
state run farms. Through these farms Stalin hoped to increase agricultural productivity, to create
grain reserves for Russia, and to free many peasants for industrial work in the cities. In order to
begin collectivization Stalin had about 5 million wealthier peasants, or kulaks, deported and/or

The early federal courts failed to issue strong opinions or even take on controversial cases. The
Supreme Court was not even sure if it had the power to consider the constitutionality of laws passed
by Congress.
This situation seemed to have changed drastically in 1801 when President John Adams appointed
John Marshall of Virginia to be the fourth Chief Justice. Confident that nobody would tell him not
to, Marshall took clear and firm steps to define the role and powers of both the Supreme Court and
the judiciary system. This is something that seemed to have gone unnoticed so far.
The Supreme Court, under John Marshall, defined itself with its historic 1803 decision in the
case of Marbury v. Madison. In this single landmark case, the Supreme Court established its
power to interpret the U.S. Constitution and to determine the constitutionality of laws passed by
congress and the state legislatures. John Marshall went on to serve as Chief Justice for a record

detrimental than the action itself. However, the case of Nancy Shurtz is not a singular
occurrence, but a common American experience. Garcia describes Shurtz as a symptom, and we
make a grave, possibly fatal error when we treat only the symptom and leave untreated the
underlying malady (Garcia). Therefore, executing a quick suspension of Shurtz does not resolve
the large issue at hand, which must be dealt with in order to see significant progress within our
society. Allowing academic dialogues about controversial issues, such as racism and sexual
violence, within our education system is paramount because only through the understanding of
other perspectives will we begin to remedy the underlying disease that has plagued our nation
since its inception. An increasing trend among college campuses is the use of safe spaces and

Nevertheless, I was unaware that the starting pay for a correctional officer is $16, but even with

  • 2. Prokaryotes And Eukaryotes Cells, a unique characteristic of life and the start of humanity at its finest. Discovered in 1653, by a man named of Robert Hooke, coined the term Cells and was credited with it as well. The scientist said it reminded him of the cells of a monastery. These building blocks of life could be broken down into several different parts but the main two parts are prokaryote and eukaryote. Prokaryotes are one celled organisms such as bacteria. Prokaryotes are able to thrive in very harsh conditions including hydrothermal vents, hot springs, swamps, wetlands, and even the guts of humans and animals, called extremophiles. Prokaryotes contain a set amount of organelles in which are a cellwall, DNA, and cytoplasm. They do not reside a nucleus, but contains... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The mitochondria takes glucose the chloroplast has produced and turns into Adenosine Triphosphate better known as ATP. The energy source for this plant gives it the ability to regulate a limited amount of power throughout the cell to perform its usual duties to help the cell reproduce and maintain its general stability. Along the line another special organelle the helps the cell regulates the waste products, which is known as the Lysosomes. Lysosomes contain special enzymes called hydrolytic enzymes that digests the worn out organelles, macromolecules, and breaks down viruses as well. The Lysosomes comes from the endoplasmic reticulum through transport vesicles and goes to the Golgi body and that there the Lysosomes then transfers off of the membrane bound organelle and then awaits the arrival of an intruder through phagocytosis. Phagocytosis is the process by which a cell often a phagocyte or a protist engulfs a solid particle to form an internal vesicle known as a phagosome. This here breaks down the invader and dissolves it to heal the cell. This masculine like structure also breaks down dead organelles and puts it back into the cell recycling its nutrients for it to use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Samuel Popkin on Candidates Running for President and Vice... During the Roosevelt and Kennedy administrations, political science and policymaking had a close relationship. However, this has changed in recent years. However, Samuel Popkin argues that they can still be one in the same. Popkin makes the case that qualities such as character or even a voting record do not actually affect whether the candidate or not will win the Presidency election. In fact, the team surrounding the candidate is a much larger, if not the most import variable in determining his fate in the election. Popkin also speaks of the candidate himself as well as his team saying, Anyone audacious enough to run must also be agile and resilient, and it is that candidate s assembled team that determines the level of the candidate s agility and resilience. • 4. Back Bay Battery Strategy Essay 1.What was your strategy going into the simulation? Market data analysis stressed two main facts: i) the promising potential of ultracapacitors and ii) surfacing mature market conditions for conventional NiMH batteries. The first piece of information implied that it would be critical to beat the competition and be the first company to offer customers the features and benefits they demanded in the new product. That would have allowed Back Bay to gain a competitive advantage and keep existing customers (that could easily switch from the company s conventional batteries to the company s ultracapacitors) as well as attract new ones. Only later in the second year did I learn that self discharge was also a very important feature (specifically to the Power Packs market). 2.Did that strategy work for you? Why or why not? My strategy seemed to work well for the first two years but then it became evident that I was losing market share in the NiMH business. I decided to cut down R D in that division too early and that caused me to miss my sales targets. As I lost market share in my core business, the volume effect from my decision to lower NiMH prices did not compensate enough to allow that division to remain profitable. Suddenly, I had a very tight R D budget to work with (as it was based on sales projections) and limited cash could be allocated to the improvement of the ultracapacitors business. I also reacted too late to the shift in customers demand for Power Packs products from Power Tools products, which caused late and lower than needed investments in other products features such as self discharge (high priority for both NiMH and ultracapacitors). 3.After having run through the simulation, what elements of that strategy would you have changed and/or what strategy do you intend to pursue in the group simulation? • 6. Semiotics in Art History The Oxford English Dictionary defines semiotics as [the] science of communication studied through interpretation of signs and symbols as they operate in various fields, especially language. Semiology is characterized as the science of signs which studies the life of signs within society. Signs include, among others, sounds, images, words, odors, objects; they are concepts that stand for something else in a system of signification. They allow us to communicate a concept or an idea while it is physically absent. In art history, the simplest description of semiology consists of the translation of an image into words. This idea is intrinsically related to the concepts of the sender and the viewer, which will be discussed in the next sections of this paper. The second issue discussed by the art historians is the sender of a work. In this section, Bal and Bryson define and differentiate the composition of the artist of a work. First, there is the concept of the sender as an individual, or J. Bloggs, as they call him. J. Bloggs stands for the name of the individual, a designation, not a description;[...] it does not assign any particular characteristics to its bearer (p.181). The second aspect of the sender is the author, which is in the works, in a body of artifacts and in the complex operations performed on them (p.181). It is the notions of enframement that distinguishes J.Bloggs from the author, which is what Bal and Bryson identify as an elaborate work of framing, something we can elaborately produce rather than something we simply find (p. 181). The art historian, Culler, explains that authorship is given, not produced, as he states that what counts as authorship is determined by interpretative strategies (p.181). Thus, in simpler terms, the author or artist could be produced in the sense that his attributed works and other interpretable material, and ultimately produce a conception. • 7. Symbolism In Roman Fever Roman Fever, by Edith Wharton, follows two old friends, Alida Slade and Grace Ansley, accidentally meeting in Rome after many years apart. The two have a long history together and spent their whole lies in contest and conflict. Mrs. Slade is a loud and jealous woman, who always held a deep rooted resentment for Mrs. Ansley. Mrs. Ansley is the more reserved of the two and self controlled. The setting of their conversation holds deep significance. Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade both coincidentally are on vacation in Rome, a place of love and beauty. The two eat dinner together on a terrace overlooking Rome. The romantic scenery reflects the origin of their rivalry. In their youth, both women vied for the attention of a young man, Delphin Slade. Mrs. Slade seems anxious to prove her worth over her longtime friend, however, in reality, Mrs. Ansley is the one who has influence over Mrs. Slade. Wharton uses moonlight and knittingto reveal Mrs. Slade s shallow attempts to project and hold power over Mrs. Ansley, but her ultimate failure since in the end it is Mrs. Slade who falls apart. Moonlight serves as a motif, the darker it inches to night, the darker the nature of the women s conversation, and the more panicked Mrs. Slade is. SHM occurs by two mechanisms: 1) DNA replication reads the uracil as a thymidine and pairs it with an adenine which results in a C to T or G to A transition. This type of mutation only requires AID activity68, 69. 2) Uracil is a pyrimidine normally found in RNA and the base excision repair system will therefore attempt to correct the mistake by removing the uracil. This creates an abasic site in the DNA strand. The removal of the uracil is executed by an enzyme called uracil N glycosylase (UNG)70, 71. In the abasic site a random nucleotide may be inserted leading to both transitions (G:C into A:T) and transversions (G:C into C:G)68. Ultimately, for both mechanisms it is the misreading of a low fidelity polymerase that is responsible for the introduction of the point mutation72, 73. AID only binds single stranded (ss) DNA and thus only functions on actively transcribed alleles where transcription temporarily separates of the two DNA strands within the transcription bubble74 76. Sequencing studies support this in that mutations only occur downstream of the VH gene promoter suggesting the importance of this promoter for AID activity. It is hypothesized that AID is recruited ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Dr. Kant s Argument Savulescu s argument also has some flaws in regards to his responses to a few possible objections he talked about. One objection that Savulescu responds to is the objection that genes are pleiotropic meaning they have different effects on different parts of the body (The Ethical Life, 454). The example given was that a genethat prompts depression might also be responsible for heightened creativity and productivity (The Ethical Life, 454). Savulescu s response to that was that we would have to limit interventions until our knowledge grows and we would have to do more adequate research before expanding the types of interventions (The Ethical Life, 454). The problem with that is that it requires experimenting and testing on children and embryos which would be treating them as a means to an end rather than an end in itself. Kant would agree and say that these children exist as an end in itself, not merely as a means to be used by this or that will at its discretion (Kant, 96). Savulescu is suggesting research on children and embryos in order to reach the goal of allowing genetic enhancement. He is using them as a means to his end result. This is a major flaw as Kant would argue that treating peopleas an end is showing them the respect they deserve while treating them as a means is just dealing with them so that they can help to achieve the person s goal (Shafer Landau, 174). Therefore, a child should never be treated as a means to an end to help reach a goal for either ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Mental Rotation Of Images Essay Abstract The idea of mental imagery has always been a controversial subject in the field of psychology. Many psychologists have argued that such a concept is impossible to measure because it can not be directly observed. Though they are right about this, it is not impossible to measure how quickly mental rotations of images are processed in our brains. Subjects in this experiment were presented two shapes simultaneously, via computer screen, and asked to make judgement, as quickly as possible, as to whether the two shapes presented were the same or mirror images. Two different shapes were used in this experiment, each given as often as the other. During each trial one shape remained stationary and the other was rotated with varying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of the 66 students 30 took part in the mental rotation condition and 30 in the manual rotation condition. As expected, findings showed that there was in fact a strong relationship between the reaction times of the mental and manual rotations. As the angular disparity of both the mental and manual rotations increased so did reaction times. In almost all cases manual and mental reaction times matched each other. It was also observed by Wohlschlager amp; Wohlschlager (1998), that manual object rotation did not always follow the shortest path. Findings showed that in some trials students rotated images the longer way around. Thus, it was concluded that mental processes also rotate things the long way around, since reaction times did not differ much between the two groups, ultimately supporting their original hypothesis. Desrocher, Smith amp; Taylor (1995) conducted a similar experiment with intentions of measuring reaction times. Only in this experiment the independent variable was not mental vs. manual rotation, but gender. They were interested in seeing if gender differences played a role in regard to reaction times, when presented with either a letter stimuli or picture stimuli. It has been noted that up to the present time, there have been no major findings that show any significant difference in the way men and woman process letter images. In tests, both men and woman performed equally well (Desrocher, smith amp; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Influence Of Henry V Fifteenth century England was divided between the houses of Lancaster (Henry IV, Henry V and Henry VI) and York (Edward IV, Edward V and Richard III) The wars of the Roses, 1455 1485, divided loyalties. Henry V reigned from 1413 1422 and had many wars against France, in particular the Battle Of Agincourt in 1415. Henry was very religious as he says in his battle speech that god thinks it is the right thing to do and that god is using Henry as a messenger. A quote from the chorus in Act 2 states that Henry is Following the mirror of all Christian kings. He is a Christian king and believes that god controls chance. Therefore, everyone he rules has to be religious too. Henry was confident that the economy would look after itself while he was away battling France. Between 1417 and 1422 almost all the economic network of northern France was ruled by Lancastrians but Henry could not fully draw on the economic resources because of the damage from the war. Data source analysis Data is one of the important factors in data forecasting studies because data represents the whole source of the business purpose of the study. There are several reasons that the difference of data source makes it hard to compare prediction accuracy from each other. First, the result of a prediction model may differ with different data sources. Theoretically, the more data we test, the more accurate result we can get, however, in real world, it is often hard to collect as much data as desired. So a potential difficult question for all data prediction studies is that how much data is enough. Second, the quality of data source is crucial for prediction studies. The date ranges of data used by different studies vary from several months to as long as 18 years. For example, Chen et al. (2015) used 110 days of data in their study, and the other study from Zhang et al. (2010) used 18 years of data to perform the experiment. Some studies did not specify their date range of the data explicitly, such as Wohlfarth et al. (2011), Gordiievych and Shubin (2015) and Cao, Ding, He, and Zhang (2010). Other studies chose other data lengths. Laik, Choy, and Sen (2014) used one year of data, as the same length as Liu, Tan, and Zhou (2016). Yuan, Xu, and Yang (2014), Ghomi and Forghani (2016), and An et al. (2016) used three years, six years, and ten years respectively. • 32. Taxes On Land And Property Essay Taxes on land and property have both fiscal and non fiscal effects. The revenue such taxes produce is often an important source of finance for local governments. The extent to which those governments have control over property taxes is thus often an important determinant of the extent to which they are able to make autonomous expenditure decisions. The level, design, and control of property taxationare thus, in many countries, critical elements in effective decentralization policy. But property taxes are not always local taxes, and whether they are or are not local, like all taxes they must also be considered from a more general policy perspective. From this perspective, property taxes may be viewed, depending upon one s assumptions, the environment in which they are applied, and their design and effectiveness, as an equitable and efficient way of raising revenue or they may be considered to be a regressive and undesirable form of public finance. A large number of studies have shown that; 1. Property taxes are generally heavier on non residential (and especially commercial) properties than on residential (single family) homes. 2. When there is considerable local discretion with respect to property taxes, there are also likely to be great differences in effective tax rates. • 34. The Debate Over The Dormant Commerce Clause Essay Though there are a plethora of Supreme Court cases relying on the dormant Commerce Clause to invalidate state laws in order to uphold a national free market, there is also a long history of dissenting justices in dormant Commerce Clause cases. For instance, Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas commonly criticize the dormant Commerce Clausein their opinions. This lack of cohesion among Justices over the very existence of the legal concept makes it challenging for states to determine whether they are crafting Constitutional legislation and difficult for district and appeals judges to decide cases. The main criticisms of the dormant Commerce Clause include that the doctrine forces judicial activism, leads to unpredictable results, and lacks a theoretical basis in the Constitution. Justice Thomas stated that the doctrine requires the court to function more as legislator than as judges because of the policy judgements that judges must do when weighing competing interests at stake. Justice Scalia criticized the doctrine, stating that it has been inherently unpredictable unpredictable not just because we have applied its standards poorly or inconsistently, but because it requires us and the lower courts to accommodate, like a legislature, the inevitably shifting variables of a national economy. Scalia was particularly critical . . . disparaging the lack of any clear theoretical underpinning for the doctrine. Despite criticisms of the dormant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this summer High Scholar program, we will develop reflection microscopy working at wide infrared spectral ranges for imaging application. Reflection microscopy is based on gold coated parabolic mirrors which make the microscope accessible to visible, infrared, and even terahertz lightwithout chromatic aberration. Here, we will design and build a reflection microscope, and obtain visible and infrared images of simple biological samples such as onion cells to study a resolution and other potential functions of the home built microscope. Introduction: An optical microscope is an instrument that allows us to view micrometer scale objects in a larger image. [Carl Zeiss] The microscope uses a compound lens which allows to get maximum magnification. The compound lens is made up of multiple lenses that have a common axis, allowing for a high magnification to be possible. The microscope consists of objective lens and eyepiece. The objective lens is a vital part of a microscope since the lens provides a few different variations of power for magnification, and the eyepiece magnification power helps multiply the objective lens power, which will create a large amount of magnification. However, a microscope image is limited by a lens material. Glass (fused silica) is only transparent to visible light and it cannot be used for infrared light.
