Licenses in The Networked Information Economy Essay examples
Free and open source software has become an integral part of the modern internet age. As a result of
the threat posed by copyright laws sponsored by proprietary software companies, the free software
community has developed many software licenses to combat copyright and protect the developer.
Many open source licenses have ben used by developers to release their programs to the community.
Some of the most popular licenses are the Apache License, the GNU General Public License (GPL),
and the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL). Each of these licenses gives different rights for
the licensor and the user of the license. Each license also has implications on the availability of the
code to the future developer community. The GPL more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The LGPL is a less restrictive copyleft license based, for the most part, on the GPL. One main
difference between the two licenses is the fact that the LGPL allows the use of its licensed libraries to
be used in proprietary software as well as free software (Free Software Foundation, n.d.). Programs
that are licensed under the GPL include the Qt application development system, the RhythmBox
music player, and the Blender 3d modeling program. Programs licensed under the GPL have a wide
developer base and a wide variety of improvements because anyone can access the source code and
release changes to the community.
The Apache Software License was developed by the Apache Software Foundation as an alternative to
the restrictions of the GPL. The Apache License is a much less restrictive license than the GPL or the
LGPL. The main difference between the two licenses is that code under the Apache License can be
used in a proprietary program (Wilson, 2005a). Another difference in the Apace License is the fact that
users of programs licensed under the Apache License do not have to contribute their changes back to
the community, as with the GPL (Metz, 2012). Aside from the Apache web server, Google s Android
Operating System and Hadoop a networked data processing program are licensed under the Apache
License (Metz, 2012). Some proprietary software

Observation In High School
Looking out the window, anyone could see from the dark, shady sky, it was going to rain. It was the
end of freshman year, end of spring, early summer, and everyone had formed their study groups to
study for the Algebra final the following week. I, however, wasn t in a group and kept to myself, in my
corner by the window. I had no interest in studying and instead was captivated by the dim, warms, of
the outside world. As a freshman in highschool, I hated school and showed little interest in it. Staring
out the window, I had zoned out, then I was sitting outside under a large tree. The leaves rustling
above me, shaking side to side in a smooth swing. It s pretty bark, composed of multiple layers, dug
into my back. Roots grabbed the earth, its large knots exposed. The old bark felt rough, with its unique
texture, furrowed and scaly. Moss had crawled its way up the majestic trunk, very thin tangles of
green mass that swallowed the roots, jutting from the earth. Just sitting there, I could smell the sweet
fresh air, rain brought; It s safe aroma. It was crisp and clean, mixing ... Show more content on

My clothes fluttered violently against the rough wind. The trees leaves shuffling anxiously, for it knew
of the quickly approaching rain. The dark clouds could not hold in the heavy water anymore and,
softly the rain began to fall upon the tree in soft pattering drops, falling like rivulets among the leaves.
The leaves let the water fall even further until it reach my skin, slowly it rolled to the already wet
ground. More of the warm shower fell on me, soft to the touch, almost like velvet flower petals. The
petals had soon soaked me, clothes clung to my skin, and hair stuck to my face. The petals with the
smooth, light texture, had me floating away like the running stream along the sidewalks, flowing
quietly to where ever they desired. I was disappearing along with the water, fleeing like flower

To Cover Or Not To Cover
To cover, or not to cover? That is the question. When magazine, internet or news articles show a
woman wearing a head covering, one automatically assumes that the woman is a Muslim; yet is
covering one s head the rule for these women? What does the Qur an say? Why do women do this?
What is the difference between the various head coverings? There are hijabs, khimars, chadors,
niqabs, and burqas. What are these? So many questions... The answers to these questions seem to
differ depending upon whom you ask. According to Islamic.org, It is the general consensus among the
Muslims that a Muslim woman is required to cover her head leaving only her face showing as part of
an overall dress code and behaviour which Islam prescribes. It is therefore ... Show more content on

In 1 Corinthians 11, God gives the command that a woman is to cover her head when praying or
prophesying and that a man is to have his head uncovered, (Horst). According to the Jewish Virtual
Library website, It was customary for most women in the ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, and the
Greco Roman world to cover their hair when they went outside the home. In biblical times, women
covered their heads with veils or scarves. The unveiling of a woman s hair was considered a
humiliation and punishment (Isa. 3:17; cf. Num. 5:18 on the loosening of the hair of a woman
suspected of adultery; III Macc. 4:6; and Sus. 32), (www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org). The practice of
head covering appears in many different cultures. Mantillas are still worn by many Spanish and Latina
women during religious ceremonies, and many Christian women in India still cover their heads with a
veil, scarf, shawl or the end of a sari during religious services,
(http://www.csames.illinois.edu/documents/outreach/Cross Culture_Head_Coverings.pdf). Based on
this information, to immediately draw attention to Muslim women and question their practice of
covering their heads seems prejudicial women from many other cultures and religions cover their

Final Integrative Case Study Garlinda
The Final Integrative Paper will use the given case study of Garlinda and use the course readings for
the course, Vocational Formation for Church and Leadership. The paper will be based on much of the
content shared in the Conflict Paper and will discuss and view new possibilities according to the
reading for the Spring Semester, 2016. Since in my previous paper, I discussed the personality
differences of the people involved in Garlindas case study, I will pay attention to few other things
concerning the possibilities of building a better Church. Pointing to Garlinda s case study, I am

The other concept is hospitality. As one of Garlinda s peer consultant, I would have suggested that she
might want to introduce a new offer to the congregation and that is a new link to the chain of music
ministry. I would suggest Garlinda to introduce this offer stating that the church really appreciates
Wanda, her services and her gift of music to the ministry, and would like Wanda to lead a small group
for the music lovers who love to learn traditional church songs that are no longer in the hymn books.
This might please Wanda that she has not been pushed out of the church bluntly but has still retain her
place in the church where the church founding members really appreciate her. IN addition, Wanda
would work in collaboration with another/new music director who would direct music with Wanda. To
make the music more innovative, there would be duets where some songs would still have Wanda s

would able to suggest this through a face book or other media

The Soviet Union As A Great Nation
Although often overlooked World War 2 can arguably seen as the most critical event in the history of
the Soviet Union. The result of the war was the epitome of Stalin s vision of success for the Soviet
Union. The War initially had a significantly positive impact on the Soviet Union in the short term,
however the results and effects of the War were a factor that ultimately led to the collapse of the
Soviet Union as a whole.
The short term impact World War 2 had for the Soviet Union was positive for the growth and
evolution of the Soviet Union. The War both enhanced nationalism, and propelled the Soviet Union to
a major world player. In the eyes of Stalin, WWII was exactly what the Soviet Union needed to evolve
into a great nation. The war created great sense of nationalism and unity that strengthened the core of
the Soviet Union. Just as Stalin had hoped for the Soviet Union became arguably the most
nationalistic world power at the time; looking at the way the Soviet Union fought the war can
reasonably conclude this. The Soviets didn t not fight the war conservatively whatsoever. Stalin and
the Soviet army would take risks and lose lives in the name of defeating fascist enemies. The Soviet
army fought the war as if they re entire societal system was on the line. Ordinary soldiers absorbed the
attitudes of the Nazi and the Soviet leaders. Both sides believed that defeat would lead to annihilation
of their way of life (Suny 343). Another positive impact WWII had on

From watching the news and looking at social media I know the gist of what happened. I know that
the people were protesting China, who was appointing the nominees for their leader when the people
wanted to pick the nominees for themselves and believed that it was promised to them by China in
their agreement after buying them back by Great Britain. After weeks of protest, police started getting
violent, using tear gas, and sticks, as well as arresting the protesters. From the point of view of the
people of Hong Kong, China was oppressing the people and breaking the deal they had with them.
Watching both Chinese and American news channels, many people side with the protesters and that is
likely due to the fact that they also have prior biases. I wish to learn more about both sides and be able
to objectively decide who was at fault, who crossed the line, and ultimately do the people have a right
to protest? I want to answer questions like What was the deal made between the two places? Was
China being too harsh on the people? Was a compromise possible and ultimately, what was the
outcome of the protests? I believe that my research process will go well because these protests were
very well reported and discussed. The sources I hope to use are sources such as new articles,
interviews, and primary sources.

Positive Test Lab Report
Explain what is meant by a positive test for an ion. A positive test means that the ion being tested for
was found. Describe two types of changes that demonstrate a positive test in this lab experiment. One
change that demonstrates a positive test in this lab is precipitate forming. If silver nitrate solution is
mixed with a substance and a precipitate forms, chloride ions must be present in that substance.
Another change the demonstrates a positive test in this lab is a colour change to a dark red colour. If
potassium thiocyanate is mixed with a substance and the colour of the substance changes to dark red,

A false positive is a test result that incorrectly indicates a certain substance or condition is present. b)
Provide a specific example where a false positive occurred during the experiment. And how did you
know it was a false positive? Explain. A false positive occurred when Potassium Thiocyanate was
mixed with the substance Unknown A. I know it was a false positive because a positive result when
using potassium thiocyanate would be a colour change to a dark red colour. In this case, there was a
colour change to a green colour. Because there was a chemical change, it may seem like a positive
result. However, it cannot be a positive result, because the colour did not change to dark red.
Therefore, it is a false positive. c) Do some research and find a real life example where a false positive
may occur during lab/medical tests. Explain your answer. A real life example of when a false positive
may occur is during a pregnancy test. A women takes a pregnancy test and it says she is pregnant

Summary Of The Poem Let Evening Come
When I first read this poem, I was taking into a place of uncertainty but yet, a place of being relaxed
and calm. This poem was hard in trying to really understand the literal meaning in order to dive in to
find a deeper meaning.
Let Evening Come by Jane Kenyon was a very interesting poem. It was very short, but had a lot of
detailed sentences. Another interesting element of the poem was the repetitive use of the title phrase
let evening come throughout the poem. My idea of this poem is that the literal meaning of this poem is
someone being trapped. As the poem goes on, every stanza starts with the word let. This shows me
that whoever the speaker is speaking to, that they have no power and they just have to let the actions
that follow in the poem just happen to them. Another question I have on this is who is the speaker? Is
the speaker trapped in his own mind and trying to cope with himself? It kind of seems this way in how
the speaker justifies himself by saying let evening come after he says Let the fox go back to its sandy
den. Let the wind die down. Let the shed go black inside (1251). My thought of him saying this line is
that he is stating, no matter what is going on in the world, that nothing is perfect and evening will
come no matter what happens during the day. Also, that there s things that are out of one s control and
people just have to let those uncontrollable things happen. Only focus on the actions that you can
control and if you do that, good things will happen. I think that deep down, the speaker is talking to
himself and trying to convince himself that focusing on actions that they can control and blocking out
everything else, that something good will come. Another question I had was what is the significance
of the ending sentence and the author mentioning God in it. (Last sentence) God does not leave us
comfortless, so let evening come ?
Adding God into this this puts a religious spin on it that could mean something deep down. I really
liked this poem because there s so many questions at first about the meaning that I had to really think
about my interpretation.
Part II: Reaction after Class Discussion After class discussion, this poem made more sense to me in
the fact that I got

Why Do Asylum Seekers Enter Australia Essay
Ask yourself this, if we were on a plane and it broke down with everyone being stuck on an island.
Would the government not try to find us? To save our lives and bring us back to a better place where
there is food, shelter and an overall better living environment. Then why not look for asylums seekers
out there? An asylum s seekers life here in Australia is another life saved from war, conflict and other
disasters. Asylum seekers should be able to come into Australia through boat and by any means
necessary as something that is an act of humanity and not an act of the law, rules and regulations.
Because they don t have time to wait around and be saved by someone. We do not get to decide
whether or not their life can be here but we do get a say about it! So let s all make a difference. The
main reasons for me bearing this opinion is one of three. For one, Asylum seekers should be able to

forgotten the devastating circumstances from which asylum seekers come. Which is true! I believe
that as Australians, we are completely forgetting the environment in which they were living in and
completely looking at if they pose a threat to the country. This is not a right it is a wrong. Therefore

This is demonstrated through the aloof manner in which Bayardo erratically decides to pursue Angela
Vicario, simply after seeing her cross the square with her mother.
The characterization of Angela Vicario is a reflection of the expectations of a woman in this
Columbian town, as Angela s upbringing consisted of domestic chores. Angela s mother, Purisma
reared her girls to get married (31) by teaching them how to sew, washes, and iron. Purisma describes
her daughters as perfect , proving that the highly regarded traits in a woman are those that involve
housework. The value of a woman from this sea port town also includes beauty as well as her ability
to suffer (31), demonstrating the insignificant role that women play. Bayardo takes notice of Angela s
appealing qualities and begins his courtship through extravagant gifts. Despite Bayardo s wealthy
status and good reputation, Angela is distinctively unimpressed with him, as he hadn t even tried to
court her, but had bewitched the family with his charm (34). Angela s indifferent feelings towards
Bayardo reveal her rare individuality as it would be customary to seize the opportunity of gaining such
a prospect as well respected and prosperous as Bayardo. Angela s rare uniqueness was further
juxtaposed with Bayardo s impassive obligation to continue to court Angela through gifts revealing his
wealth and status such as the music

The phrase History repeats itself is a commonly used paradigm when it comes to events that happen in

anything that could have been done to prevent it? There are a multitude of questions that could be
asked, with the most important of them all, will it happen again? In just the past two hundred years,

The great depression, up to date, was the longest and most devastating financial period recorded in

but it was primarily affected by the stock market prices falling. This event would change the American
ideals of economics and politics forever. President Herbert Hoover was in office during the onset of
the depression. Hoover was a well rounded individual He worked in mining as a young man, traveling
the world to develop and supervise mining operations. He published the book Principles of Mining
which became a staple text book in most mining schools and helped spread his reputation across the
nations. During the beginning stages of his reign as president, which began in March of 1929, he made
several successful accomplishments from stopping the twelve hour workday in the steel mines,
reorganizing the European economy, reopening mines, and creating the Agricultural Marketing Act.
Although he had many early successes, they would be short lived. By October of 1929, the stock
market had crashed. Hoover would become the victim of a devastating event that he had no control

Asteroids in Our Solar System
Introduction:
When the first asteroids were discovered they were thought to be planets, just like every other star in
the sky. It is only with the advancement of astronomy that the differentiation could occur. Asteroids
are minor planets or sometimes referred to as planetoids or planetesimals. Those names are given to
anything in the solar system that does not seem to have the roundedness of a planetary body or the
typical characteristics of a comet. Asteroids can form in a number of ways; they can be pieces of a
larger extinct planet or a planet that was in the stages of forming when some event occurred to change
its path. A majority of the asteroids we know are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The difference between an asteroid and a comet is commonly misunderstood; anything smaller than
ten meters across is called a meteoroid, with the broader term minor planet is preferred by the
International Astronomical Union. Other languages prefer planetoid and this term is used in English
for differentiating between larger minor planets such as the dwarf planets. The word planetesimal has
a similar meaning, but refers to the small building blocks of the planets that existed when the Solar
System was forming. The three largest objects in the asteroid belt, Ceres, 2 Pallas, and 4 Vesta, grew
to the stage of protoplanets. Ceres is a dwarf planet, the only one in the inner Solar System. The main
difference between an asteroid and a comet is that a comet shows a coma due to sublimation of near
surface ices by solar radiation. A few objects have ended up being dual listed because they were first
classified as minor planets but later showed evidence of comet like activity. Conversely, some comets
are eventually depleted of their surface volatile ices and become asteroids. A further distinction is that
comets typically have more eccentric orbits than most asteroids; most asteroids with notably eccentric
orbits are probably dormant or extinct comets (Weissman et al, 2002).
Much interest in asteroids stems from the collisional potential of some of their orbits. These near Earth
asteroids or earth crosser are categorized into three types; Apollos,

Acid Base Balance

Acid Base Balance
The acid base balance is a homeostatic process that aides the body in maintaining a pH in the arterial
blood between 7.35 7.45 (Patient, 2015). The body works together through multi systems to ensure
that acidity or alkalinity never take over within the blood. The purpose of the following paper is define
the classification of the acid base balance, define the factors from the case study, explain the
pathophysiology, describe the compensatory mechanisms, pharmacological interventions, and the
educational needs of patients with an imbalance.

Another major factor that the patient did was self prescribe antacids for the stomach issues (Grand
Canyon University, 2015). Metabolic alkalosis occurs from excessive intake of antacids. Antacids are
calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide and sodium bicarbonate (Human Touch of Chemistry,
2015). With the vomiting and loss of gastric secretions, HCO3 began to build up in the body. For the
stomach upset, the patient began to add more HCO3 formularies to the stomach, which increased the
levels of HCO3 in the body.
Pathophysiology
There are different ways that metabolic alkalosis can occur. Generally, the imbalance occurs from a
loss of hydrogen ions, a shift of hydrogen ions into the intracellular space, and administration of
antacids (Medscape, 2015). Hydrogen ions are lost from the kidneys and the gastrointestinal tract,
which occurs from vomiting and diarrhea. When hydrogen ions are excreted from the body,
bicarbonate ions are added to the intracellular space (Medscape, 2015).
Compensation Mechanism
When homeostasis is disrupted, the body will respond in several ways. Depending upon the
imbalance, the body will work to quickly correct the problem and restore the body to homeostatic
state. There are organ systems involved to correct the issues, like the renal and respiratory systems.
When the body breathes, the lungs blow off carbon dioxide that has built up in the body.

Restitution in an epic hero cycle often takes the form of the hero regaining his rightful position in the
social hierarchy, such as the king. He does this by killing the main antagonistic suitor, Antinous, for
courting Penelope, Odysseus wife. Odysseus aimed and shot Antinous square in the throat/ and the
point went stabbing clean through the soft neck and out / and off to the side he pitched, the cup
dropped from his grasp/ as the shaft sank home, and the man s life blood came spurting/ from his

Mobile Devices And The Technology
Introduction Today mobile devices are multifunctional devices capable of hosting a broad range of
applications for both business and consumer use. Smart phones and tablet allow people to access the
internet for email, instant messaging, text messaging and web browsing, as well as work documents,
contact list and more. Mobile devices are often seen as an extension to your own PC. Work done on
the road, or away from the office can be linked with your PC to reflect changes and new information.
The term mobile device is used to mean a wide range of consumer electronics. Usually mobile devices

Behavior Modification Project
I chose to modify my slight procrastination of school work and also utilize the time I am working

for me to decide to use this behavior modification project to further reduce my tendency to

defined as putting off important tasks or work until the last minute and trying to complete the work in

Additionally, classical conditioning and cue routine reward was also a big part of this project to not

conditioning was playing music prior to any time I was going to be doing school work, weather it was
on my way to each class, before homework, or before studying. The cue to trigger my brain to prepare
to do school work was certain music, and the routine was playing it for 10 minutes prior to any school

Summary Of The Metamorphosis By Kafka
In Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis , the transformation of the character Gregor from a man to one
of the most repellent insects, a cockroach, may seem exaggerated and ridiculous, becoming more so
over the course of the story as the action builds and emotions become more charged. Kafka s
intention, however, is to expose and explore the impoverishment of human psychology with respect to
the ways in which changes in one s circumstances and conditions reshape notions of justice and
mercy. These themes will be explored further in this character analysis of Gregor in The
Metamorphosis .
While it is the subject of this character analysis, Gregor who has been mysteriously and inexplicably
reduced to one of the lowest forms of animal life in this story by Kafka representing the absurd, it
isGregor s family in The Metamorphosis whose psychological development is least human and
humane. Gregor has changed physical form, but Kafka clearly indicates that his essential being has not
changed in any fundamental way. Gregor still has human feelings and needs, he still wishes to relate
with his family and other members of society, and he still wishes to be responsible. As this character
analysis of Gregor in The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka suggests, his mother, father, and his sister
have not changed form, but their metamorphoses are the most profound because they demonstrate how
easily one s beliefs, values, and basic treatment of others can be compromised because of a failure to
adapt psychologically.
From the opening of The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, the character of Gregor is portrayed as a
whole and complex human being. Like many people, he detests his job, but he recognizes that his
work is necessary because it supports his family. He applies himself with great earnestness (Kafka 35)
to his grinding work as a traveling salesman, not only because he wants to support his parents and pay
off a debt that they incurred, but because he dreams of sending his sister, Grete, to a conservatory
where she can learn to play violin professionally (Kafka 37). At this early point in Kafka s
Metamorphosis in fact, a character analysis of Gregor would yield rather little in terms of character
depth. However, this devotion

Disneyland and its Offerings
This is the place where every kid begs to go. This is the place where adults enjoy going also. It s the
place where dreams come true , Disneyland. Located in Anaheim, California, this popular amusement
park is known all over the world for its entertainment, park rides, Disney characters, and so much
more. Here, children laugh and play while adults enjoy tours or spend the day at the spa. Either way,
both parties will experience the time of their lives. There is so much scenery for the eyes to enjoy
here. From the bright lights, to the extravagant decorations, and to the tall castle buildings; its
elaborate factors cease to exist. This is what sets Disneyland apart from its fellow amusement parks.
The park continues to grow with new things each year. There are so many awesome things that
Disneyland rewards us with.
This tourist attraction was founded by Walt Disney in 1955 (Disneyland Amusement Park). When this
amusement park was first created it wasn t like other amusement parks at the time. Unlike traditional
parks, Walt Disney had a vision of not just having rides but making it a place where Disneyland is
known for its entertainment also. Walt Disney was a cartoon genius (Disneyland Amusement Park). A
lot of his works, most popular being Mickey Mouse, were brought into the theme of the park.
Bringing cartoons like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to the amusement park brought in joy.
While walking through the park one may encounter costumes of, Tinker Bell and other Disney
characters. For children and adults, seeing these cartoon characters depicted in real life, reminds one
of happier times. This stood as a trademark for Disneyland. An atmosphere of optimism, patriotism,
and fun are three of the many goals Walt Disney set to achieve (Disneyland s History). With this in
mind things needed to be fixed and changes needed to be made. When the parked opened up in 1955,
there were many speculations that the heavy investment Disney put in to the park would not be
beneficial in return (Disneyland Amusement Park). Walt Disney spent a lot of money on his vision.
Disney projected that he would need eleven

Analysis Of Ray Bradbury s Dr. Neff

American Modern Novel
Dr. Neff
April 27th, 2015
Final Paper
Is this book worth the read? Sometimes it is hard to remember that Ray Bradbury tackles the art of
short story in a very unusual way. His collections of short stories are often tied together by shared sub
themes or settings, although each story could stand on it s own. Such is the case here, though the
running theme to the Illustrated Man collection is mostly a concept. Apparently the stories are told by
a man s tattoos, but do not worry about that too much. The true theme holding this group of stories
together is inspections of human nature and mankind s place in the universe. Bradbury s classic
examinations of the gloomy and downhearted side of humanity are ... Show more content on

He is known as the Illustrated Man who is looking for a job. The main character went to be tattooed
across his entire body as a way to continue to work at a circus, showing off to people who come to
view the art he exhibited. His tattoos, he told him, where given to him by a witch from our future that
he wishes to find and kill. When the sun goes down, the tattoos come to life, and play out little dramas
upon the man flesh. The man decides to watch as the Illustrated Man sleeps, and what he sees are the
stories that are portrayed in this novel. Each of the stories covered in this book comes from the drama
performed out by the man s tattoos. The tattoos plays out different eighteen stories, but with all of the
stories being told, the man finds one last tattoo forming: it showed the Illustrated Man strangling him
to death. By and well built, the stories are independent to each other, which means we can go from a
strange future where one family s house takes care of all their materials to a poor farmer who manages
to avoid the end of the by being in one of his own. Still, there are few themes that run throughout the
book that are fascinating to look at.
The stories in this collection are unusual but a few common themes arise. One of these themes is the
way we relate to technology. It is pretty obvious in the first tale of the book, The Veldt. In this story,
we meet a family who are completely reliant on on their house. It is a technological phenomenon,

Dr. Mary Shelly s Frankentein And The 1994 Adaptation...

Professor Star
Mary Shelly vs Baranagh
Mary Shelly s Frankentein and the 1994 adaptation of the novel have many similarities and also many
differences. Differences focus mainly on death and the similarities focus on the plot structure. The
similarities override the differences because the overall plot structure stayed the same. The changes of
how people died is one major difference that Branagh had taken away from the original novel. In the
book, Victors mother dies from scarlet fever that she has gotten from Elizabeth. As quoted from the
book, She died calmly, and her countenance expressed affection even in death. I need not describe the
feelings of those whose dearest ties are rent by that most irreparable evil, the void that presents itself
to the soul, and the despair that is exhibited on the countenance. In the movie, Victor s mother dies
from childbirth. Victor is far less affected by the death of his mother in the novel than the movie. In
the movie he creates Frankenstein as one of the results of the death of his mother. This is one major
difference that is displayed.
Within the movie version, another major difference regarding the death of a character is involving
Elizabeth, who he then turned into a monster to be a friend for the original creature that Victor had
created. When Elizabeth discovered that she was not alive anymore, and how horrendous she thought
she portrayed herself and the monster, she killed herself. In the novel, the

The Sculpture On South Campus At Moravian College
The sculpture on South Campus at Moravian College commonly known as Moravian Roots One and
Two, who was created by Steve Tobin in 2010 has a significant meaning behind the moderately new
sculpture. There are two of the same types of sculptures in the same place, just distance away from
one another. This sculpture seems to be abstract, since we are taking the form of what it looks like to
create a meaning, which can be something different in other people s eyes. The sculpture is a dark
black shade that naturally blends in with the surroundings, therefore making it blend in with its natural
surroundings. The negative space between the roots are easily seen since its roots are based in various
directions, showing us how far the roots of the sculpture and realistically Moravian has grown. There
is no base or pedestals for these two sculptures who go hand in hand together, but it is roughly around
five feet standing upward and going in sporadic directions, to signify differences. They are roundly
shaped with carved pointed edges giving the image that it is like a tree root or branch, being slightly
pointed on the top. The inner parts of the tree roots are textured off to have a little dots making it a bit
rougher than the soft and smooth outer sides that we see from a distance. There seems to be no said
real front or back side to this piece because the tree roots go in different directions, therefore giving
the observer a chance to decide which way they would like to view it.

Imagine that you lived in the 17th century when there were no airplanes and parachutes. Imagine that
you lived happily with your family at the top of the mountain until you ran out of food and water. You
can see all the water and the food that you need to help your family survive from the top of the
mountain. However, to reach the water and food you need to overcome your fear and jump from the
mountain top to the ground. You know that when you jump you will dive into the river beneath the
mountain and not suffer physical injury. You also know that it will change your life to jump because
you will be able to gather all the food and water that your family needs, but you need to overcome the
fear and doubt that is holding you back. You also need to overcome questions triggered by fear on
your mind and make you anxious, what if I hit the rock , What if I find no way to climb back up ,

Gandhi s Persuasive Methods Of Mahatma Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi was an influential person who stood up and gave the people a voice in the British

Effective diction, literary devices and structural devices are the most important element of a novel. In
the passage of the novel titled The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness is developed deeply by
different kinds of devices. In the authors opinion, the passage in the novel is about Todd s hatred
towards the town and how it is developed by effective diction, literary devices and structural devices.
Effective diction has a played a huge part in the development of the passage. Firstly in the passage,
there is an example of effective diction and how it adds effect to the surroundings. For example, Todd

towards Manchee. Literary devices have played a big part by advancing the events that took place near
the swamp, and structural devices have played a part refining the passage with repetition, a run on
sentence and a sentence fragment. This passage has been modified and adjusted by effective diction,
literary devices and structural devices. This passage enhances one of the major themes in this book
which is loss of innocence. Todd has slowly been losing his innocence throughout the book. This
passage represents the theme of loss of innocence because you hear Todd say the eff word as it is
referred to, as he gets smacked by Aaron. Another example of when he represented the loss of
innocence was when he gets so mad and just starts revealing his true feelings and says he hates

The history of cotton cultivation and production to cottons part in society now. Tyler Riviere

The evolutionary history of cotton played an important role in the heritage of the British Empire, the
United States(U.S.), and India. Cotton continues to be an important crop and commodity throughout
society. The history of Cotton is one of the most important factors to our society currently. Cotton
cultivation dates back over 7,000 years, seeds of cotton are found all over the world. Cotton is hugely
important throughout the world, making cotton useful to make a number of textile products. Since
cotton is used and produced on such a widespread industry, cotton s largest producers are China and
India. However; the largest exporters of raw cotton are the United States and Africa. The advancement
in cotton textile industries, and the worldwide vast cultivation of the crop is the product of human
demand towards the farming, production, and export of cotton.
The global cotton industry is distinguished by its abundant industrial uses of cotton plume, which is
the fiber within the cotton used to create products, along with the high production costs that come
along with it. Extreme vegetative growth can hinder destructively with productivity of the cotton
plant. Why it makes applying growth regulators an essential for healthy develop6ment in the cotton

Thirteen years later, in 1896, a new case appeared that would set a precedent for racial discrimination
for years to come, and ultimately, drive a nigh irremovable wedge between the blacks and the whites
in the south. The case in question arose when a seven eigths caucasian man, Homer Adolph Plessy,
broke a Lousiana law barring black people from sitting in certain train cars. Upon refusing to move,
Plessy was arrested and brought to court where the case made its way up through district and appellate
courts and all the way to the Supreme Court. The question, posed by this case was: is the Louisiana
law mandating racial segregation on trains unconstitutional under the fourteenth amendment? The
court decided, in a seven to one decision written by Justice Brown, that the different train cars for
blacks and whites weren t a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment. In his conclusion, Justice Brown
wrote that the Fourteenth Amendment was intended to provide complete equality for all races before
the law. However, he said, it is not intended to eradicate racial distinctions, and enforce social equality,
nor is it an attempt to force a collusion of races. This conclusion gave rise to the infamous Separate

  • 2. Licenses in The Networked Information Economy Essay examples Free and open source software has become an integral part of the modern internet age. As a result of the threat posed by copyright laws sponsored by proprietary software companies, the free software community has developed many software licenses to combat copyright and protect the developer. Many open source licenses have ben used by developers to release their programs to the community. Some of the most popular licenses are the Apache License, the GNU General Public License (GPL), and the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL). Each of these licenses gives different rights for the licensor and the user of the license. Each license also has implications on the availability of the code to the future developer community. The GPL more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The LGPL is a less restrictive copyleft license based, for the most part, on the GPL. One main difference between the two licenses is the fact that the LGPL allows the use of its licensed libraries to be used in proprietary software as well as free software (Free Software Foundation, n.d.). Programs that are licensed under the GPL include the Qt application development system, the RhythmBox music player, and the Blender 3d modeling program. Programs licensed under the GPL have a wide developer base and a wide variety of improvements because anyone can access the source code and release changes to the community. The Apache Software License was developed by the Apache Software Foundation as an alternative to the restrictions of the GPL. The Apache License is a much less restrictive license than the GPL or the LGPL. The main difference between the two licenses is that code under the Apache License can be used in a proprietary program (Wilson, 2005a). Another difference in the Apace License is the fact that users of programs licensed under the Apache License do not have to contribute their changes back to the community, as with the GPL (Metz, 2012). Aside from the Apache web server, Google s Android Operating System and Hadoop a networked data processing program are licensed under the Apache License (Metz, 2012). Some proprietary software ... • 3. Observation In High School Looking out the window, anyone could see from the dark, shady sky, it was going to rain. It was the end of freshman year, end of spring, early summer, and everyone had formed their study groups to study for the Algebra final the following week. I, however, wasn t in a group and kept to myself, in my corner by the window. I had no interest in studying and instead was captivated by the dim, warms, of the outside world. As a freshman in highschool, I hated school and showed little interest in it. Staring out the window, I had zoned out, then I was sitting outside under a large tree. The leaves rustling above me, shaking side to side in a smooth swing. It s pretty bark, composed of multiple layers, dug into my back. Roots grabbed the earth, its large knots exposed. The old bark felt rough, with its unique texture, furrowed and scaly. Moss had crawled its way up the majestic trunk, very thin tangles of green mass that swallowed the roots, jutting from the earth. Just sitting there, I could smell the sweet fresh air, rain brought; It s safe aroma. It was crisp and clean, mixing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My clothes fluttered violently against the rough wind. The trees leaves shuffling anxiously, for it knew of the quickly approaching rain. The dark clouds could not hold in the heavy water anymore and, softly the rain began to fall upon the tree in soft pattering drops, falling like rivulets among the leaves. The leaves let the water fall even further until it reach my skin, slowly it rolled to the already wet ground. More of the warm shower fell on me, soft to the touch, almost like velvet flower petals. The petals had soon soaked me, clothes clung to my skin, and hair stuck to my face. The petals with the smooth, light texture, had me floating away like the running stream along the sidewalks, flowing quietly to where ever they desired. I was disappearing along with the water, fleeing like flower ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. To Cover Or Not To Cover To cover, or not to cover? That is the question. When magazine, internet or news articles show a woman wearing a head covering, one automatically assumes that the woman is a Muslim; yet is covering one s head the rule for these women? What does the Qur an say? Why do women do this? What is the difference between the various head coverings? There are hijabs, khimars, chadors, niqabs, and burqas. What are these? So many questions... The answers to these questions seem to differ depending upon whom you ask. According to Islamic.org, It is the general consensus among the Muslims that a Muslim woman is required to cover her head leaving only her face showing as part of an overall dress code and behaviour which Islam prescribes. It is therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1 Corinthians 11, God gives the command that a woman is to cover her head when praying or prophesying and that a man is to have his head uncovered, (Horst). According to the Jewish Virtual Library website, It was customary for most women in the ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, and the Greco Roman world to cover their hair when they went outside the home. In biblical times, women covered their heads with veils or scarves. The unveiling of a woman s hair was considered a humiliation and punishment (Isa. 3:17; cf. Num. 5:18 on the loosening of the hair of a woman suspected of adultery; III Macc. 4:6; and Sus. 32), (www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org). The practice of head covering appears in many different cultures. Mantillas are still worn by many Spanish and Latina women during religious ceremonies, and many Christian women in India still cover their heads with a veil, scarf, shawl or the end of a sari during religious services, (http://www.csames.illinois.edu/documents/outreach/Cross Culture_Head_Coverings.pdf). Based on this information, to immediately draw attention to Muslim women and question their practice of covering their heads seems prejudicial women from many other cultures and religions cover their heads as ... • 5. Final Integrative Case Study Garlinda The Final Integrative Paper will use the given case study of Garlinda and use the course readings for the course, Vocational Formation for Church and Leadership. The paper will be based on much of the content shared in the Conflict Paper and will discuss and view new possibilities according to the reading for the Spring Semester, 2016. Since in my previous paper, I discussed the personality differences of the people involved in Garlindas case study, I will pay attention to few other things concerning the possibilities of building a better Church. Pointing to Garlinda s case study, I am reminded of the fact that no matter it is Garlinda the pastor of the congregation, Wanda, the church organist, the board members , or myself, the one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The other concept is hospitality. As one of Garlinda s peer consultant, I would have suggested that she might want to introduce a new offer to the congregation and that is a new link to the chain of music ministry. I would suggest Garlinda to introduce this offer stating that the church really appreciates Wanda, her services and her gift of music to the ministry, and would like Wanda to lead a small group for the music lovers who love to learn traditional church songs that are no longer in the hymn books. This might please Wanda that she has not been pushed out of the church bluntly but has still retain her place in the church where the church founding members really appreciate her. • 6. The Soviet Union As A Great Nation Although often overlooked World War 2 can arguably seen as the most critical event in the history of the Soviet Union. The result of the war was the epitome of Stalin s vision of success for the Soviet Union. The War initially had a significantly positive impact on the Soviet Union in the short term, however the results and effects of the War were a factor that ultimately led to the collapse of the Soviet Union as a whole. The short term impact World War 2 had for the Soviet Union was positive for the growth and evolution of the Soviet Union. The War both enhanced nationalism, and propelled the Soviet Union to a major world player. In the eyes of Stalin, WWII was exactly what the Soviet Union needed to evolve into a great nation. The war created great sense of nationalism and unity that strengthened the core of the Soviet Union. Just as Stalin had hoped for the Soviet Union became arguably the most nationalistic world power at the time; looking at the way the Soviet Union fought the war can reasonably conclude this. The Soviets didn t not fight the war conservatively whatsoever. Stalin and the Soviet army would take risks and lose lives in the name of defeating fascist enemies. The Soviet army fought the war as if they re entire societal system was on the line. Ordinary soldiers absorbed the attitudes of the Nazi and the Soviet leaders. Both sides believed that defeat would lead to annihilation of their way of life (Suny 343). Another positive impact WWII had on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Summary Of The Poem Let Evening Come When I first read this poem, I was taking into a place of uncertainty but yet, a place of being relaxed and calm. This poem was hard in trying to really understand the literal meaning in order to dive in to find a deeper meaning. Let Evening Come by Jane Kenyon was a very interesting poem. It was very short, but had a lot of detailed sentences. Another interesting element of the poem was the repetitive use of the title phrase let evening come throughout the poem. My idea of this poem is that the literal meaning of this poem is someone being trapped. As the poem goes on, every stanza starts with the word let. This shows me that whoever the speaker is speaking to, that they have no power and they just have to let the actions that follow in the poem just happen to them. Another question I have on this is who is the speaker? Is the speaker trapped in his own mind and trying to cope with himself? It kind of seems this way in how the speaker justifies himself by saying let evening come after he says Let the fox go back to its sandy den. Let the wind die down. Let the shed go black inside (1251). My thought of him saying this line is that he is stating, no matter what is going on in the world, that nothing is perfect and evening will come no matter what happens during the day. Also, that there s things that are out of one s control and people just have to let those uncontrollable things happen. Only focus on the actions that you can control and if you do that, good things will happen. I think that deep down, the speaker is talking to himself and trying to convince himself that focusing on actions that they can control and blocking out everything else, that something good will come. Another question I had was what is the significance of the ending sentence and the author mentioning God in it. (Last sentence) God does not leave us comfortless, so let evening come ? Adding God into this this puts a religious spin on it that could mean something deep down. I really liked this poem because there s so many questions at first about the meaning that I had to really think about my interpretation. It is only with the advancement of astronomy that the differentiation could occur. Asteroids are minor planets or sometimes referred to as planetoids or planetesimals. Those names are given to anything in the solar system that does not seem to have the roundedness of a planetary body or the typical characteristics of a comet. The difference between an asteroid and a comet is commonly misunderstood; anything smaller than ten meters across is called a meteoroid, with the broader term minor planet is preferred by the International Astronomical Union. Other languages prefer planetoid and this term is used in English for differentiating between larger minor planets such as the dwarf planets. The word planetesimal has a similar meaning, but refers to the small building blocks of the planets that existed when the Solar System was forming. The three largest objects in the asteroid belt, Ceres, 2 Pallas, and 4 Vesta, grew to the stage of protoplanets. Ceres is a dwarf planet, the only one in the inner Solar System. The main difference between an asteroid and a comet is that a comet shows a coma due to sublimation of near surface ices by solar radiation. A few objects have ended up being dual listed because they were first classified as minor planets but later showed evidence of comet like activity. Conversely, some comets are eventually depleted of their surface volatile ices and become asteroids. A further distinction is that comets typically have more eccentric orbits than most asteroids; most asteroids with notably eccentric orbits are probably dormant or extinct comets (Weissman et al, 2002). Much interest in asteroids stems from the collisional potential of some of their orbits. These near Earth asteroids or earth crosser are categorized into three types; Apollos, ... For the stomach upset, the patient began to add more HCO3 formularies to the stomach, which increased the levels of HCO3 in the body. Hydrogen ions are lost from the kidneys and the gastrointestinal tract, which occurs from vomiting and diarrhea. When hydrogen ions are excreted from the body, bicarbonate ions are added to the intracellular space (Medscape, 2015). Summary Of The Metamorphosis By Kafka In Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis , the transformation of the character Gregor from a man to one of the most repellent insects, a cockroach, may seem exaggerated and ridiculous, becoming more so over the course of the story as the action builds and emotions become more charged. Kafka s intention, however, is to expose and explore the impoverishment of human psychology with respect to the ways in which changes in one s circumstances and conditions reshape notions of justice and mercy. These themes will be explored further in this character analysis of Gregor in The Metamorphosis . While it is the subject of this character analysis, Gregor who has been mysteriously and inexplicably reduced to one of the lowest forms of animal life in this story by Kafka representing the absurd, it isGregor s family in The Metamorphosis whose psychological development is least human and humane. Gregor has changed physical form, but Kafka clearly indicates that his essential being has not changed in any fundamental way. Gregor still has human feelings and needs, he still wishes to relate with his family and other members of society, and he still wishes to be responsible. As this character analysis of Gregor in The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka suggests, his mother, father, and his sister have not changed form, but their metamorphoses are the most profound because they demonstrate how easily one s beliefs, values, and basic treatment of others can be compromised because of a failure to adapt psychologically. From the opening of The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, the character of Gregor is portrayed as a whole and complex human being. Like many people, he detests his job, but he recognizes that his work is necessary because it supports his family. He applies himself with great earnestness (Kafka 35) to his grinding work as a traveling salesman, not only because he wants to support his parents and pay off a debt that they incurred, but because he dreams of sending his sister, Grete, to a conservatory where she can learn to play violin professionally (Kafka 37). An atmosphere of optimism, patriotism, and fun are three of the many goals Walt Disney set to achieve (Disneyland s History). With this in mind things needed to be fixed and changes needed to be made. When the parked opened up in 1955, there were many speculations that the heavy investment Disney put in to the park would not be beneficial in return (Disneyland Amusement Park). • 24. Analysis Of Ray Bradbury s Dr. Neff Kiersta Walley American Modern Novel Dr. Neff April 27th, 2015 Final Paper Is this book worth the read? Sometimes it is hard to remember that Ray Bradbury tackles the art of short story in a very unusual way. His collections of short stories are often tied together by shared sub themes or settings, although each story could stand on it s own. Such is the case here, though the running theme to the Illustrated Man collection is mostly a concept. Apparently the stories are told by a man s tattoos, but do not worry about that too much. The true theme holding this group of stories together is inspections of human nature and mankind s place in the universe. Bradbury s classic examinations of the gloomy and downhearted side of humanity are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is known as the Illustrated Man who is looking for a job. The main character went to be tattooed across his entire body as a way to continue to work at a circus, showing off to people who come to view the art he exhibited. His tattoos, he told him, where given to him by a witch from our future that he wishes to find and kill. When the sun goes down, the tattoos come to life, and play out little dramas upon the man flesh. The man decides to watch as the Illustrated Man sleeps, and what he sees are the stories that are portrayed in this novel. Each of the stories covered in this book comes from the drama performed out by the man s tattoos. The tattoos plays out different eighteen stories, but with all of the stories being told, the man finds one last tattoo forming: it showed the Illustrated Man strangling him to death. By and well built, the stories are independent to each other, which means we can go from a strange future where one family s house takes care of all their materials to a poor farmer who manages to avoid the end of the by being in one of his own. Still, there are few themes that run throughout the book that are fascinating to look at. The stories in this collection are unusual but a few common themes arise. One of these themes is the way we relate to technology. It is pretty obvious in the first tale of the book, The Veldt. In this story, we meet a family who are completely reliant on on their house. • 25. Dr. Mary Shelly s Frankentein And The 1994 Adaptation... Kaila Mines Professor Star Mary Shelly vs Baranagh Mary Shelly s Frankentein and the 1994 adaptation of the novel have many similarities and also many differences. Differences focus mainly on death and the similarities focus on the plot structure. The similarities override the differences because the overall plot structure stayed the same. The changes of how people died is one major difference that Branagh had taken away from the original novel. In the book, Victors mother dies from scarlet fever that she has gotten from Elizabeth. As quoted from the book, She died calmly, and her countenance expressed affection even in death. I need not describe the feelings of those whose dearest ties are rent by that most irreparable evil, the void that presents itself to the soul, and the despair that is exhibited on the countenance. In the movie, Victor s mother dies from childbirth. Victor is far less affected by the death of his mother in the novel than the movie. In the movie he creates Frankenstein as one of the results of the death of his mother. This is one major difference that is displayed. Within the movie version, another major difference regarding the death of a character is involving Elizabeth, who he then turned into a monster to be a friend for the original creature that Victor had created. When Elizabeth discovered that she was not alive anymore, and how horrendous she thought she portrayed herself and the monster, she killed herself. In the novel, the ... The Sculpture On South Campus At Moravian College The sculpture on South Campus at Moravian College commonly known as Moravian Roots One and Two, who was created by Steve Tobin in 2010 has a significant meaning behind the moderately new sculpture. There are two of the same types of sculptures in the same place, just distance away from one another. This sculpture seems to be abstract, since we are taking the form of what it looks like to create a meaning, which can be something different in other people s eyes. The sculpture is a dark black shade that naturally blends in with the surroundings, therefore making it blend in with its natural surroundings. The negative space between the roots are easily seen since its roots are based in various directions, showing us how far the roots of the sculpture and realistically Moravian has grown. There is no base or pedestals for these two sculptures who go hand in hand together, but it is roughly around five feet standing upward and going in sporadic directions, to signify differences. They are roundly shaped with carved pointed edges giving the image that it is like a tree root or branch, being slightly pointed on the top. The inner parts of the tree roots are textured off to have a little dots making it a bit rougher than the soft and smooth outer sides that we see from a distance. There seems to be no said real front or back side to this piece because the tree roots go in different directions, therefore giving the observer a chance to decide which way they would like to view it. ... Thirteen years later, in 1896, a new case appeared that would set a precedent for racial discrimination for years to come, and ultimately, drive a nigh irremovable wedge between the blacks and the whites in the south. The case in question arose when a seven eigths caucasian man, Homer Adolph Plessy, broke a Lousiana law barring black people from sitting in certain train cars. Upon refusing to move, Plessy was arrested and brought to court where the case made its way up through district and appellate courts and all the way to the Supreme Court. The question, posed by this case was: is the Louisiana law mandating racial segregation on trains unconstitutional under the fourteenth amendment? The court decided, in a seven to one decision written by Justice Brown, that the different train cars for blacks and whites weren t a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment. In his conclusion, Justice Brown wrote that the Fourteenth Amendment was intended to provide complete equality for all races before the law. However, he said, it is not intended to eradicate racial distinctions, and enforce social equality, nor is it an attempt to force a collusion of races.
