Allen Stanford s Ponzi Scheme
Allen Stanford s Ponzi scheme is considered to be one of the top grossing Ponzi schemes that have
been at the forefront of white collar crime. As stated on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission
website, a Ponzi scheme is an investment fraud that involves the payment of purported returns to
earlier investors by the contribution of new investors that promises to generate high returns with little
or no risk (Sec.gov). These schemes take advantage of people who put their faith in the offender out of
trust or any other personal reason and in the case of Allen Stanford it is no different. Allen Stanford
used his status that he had built throughout his life to take advantage of many people through the use
of Certificates of Deposit. His alpha male persona had built an empire by defrauding individuals out of
what has been reported up to $6 billion and some sources have estimated up to $8 billion. This paper
will discuss how Mr. Stanford went from king to prison in a 20 year span. Allen Stanford was born in
Mexia, Texas to a lower middle class family. Stanford s parents eventually divorced and he moved to
Fort Worth, Texas. Tim Elfrink of the Broward/Palm Beach New Times stated that people who knew
Allen Stanford at a young age said that he was always out to make a quick buck and he was well
known for this. Some of his first ventures into making money were selling firewood (Elfrink, 2009).

Argumentative Essay On Muscle Cars
Muscle Cars with Shaker Hoods
The Classic Muscle Car with a Shaker Hood
Owning a muscle car with a shaker hood isn t for everybody. Even fans of aggressive looking hood
scoops would sometimes rather see them as part of the sheet metal hood structure as opposed to a
giant sized and oddly shaped air cleaner.
However, for those wanting to see their engine come to life, while sitting in the driver seat, this option
will continue to be a popular one. Here we ll discuss some of the All American muscle cars that made
this option available. We ll also discuss a few problems associated with an air scoop connected to a
moving engine, protruding like a periscope through a large hole cut in the hood.
Background on the Shaker Hood
Although you probably already know where the name comes from, let s quickly give this part a
definition and discuss its origins. In 1969 the [Ford Mustang design team] was looking for a unique
hood scoop to use on their aggressive V8 engines. Customers in the muscle car market liked the idea
of a ram air set up to improve airflow on [the single four barrel carburetor] mounted on the Cobra and

Diversity And Diversity In Education
Problem Statement and Importance
Diversity and inclusion within STEM has become a challenge for institutions of higher education and
industry employers. Issues with recruitment and retention of underrepresented minorities are
illustrated in workforce hiring and enrollment in higher education institutions. In particular, Colleges
of Agriculture and related industries have shown to lag behind other fields in metrics related to
diversity, equality, and inclusion. For example, in Purdue University s College of Agriculture of the
2,736 students currently enrolled only 193 students were underrepresented minorities. This is alarming
as the national demographics illustrate a shift in population proportions of underrepresented minorities

jurisprudence (Decuir Dixon, 2004). Recognizing the application of CRT in other disciplines, it began
to expand to education, women s studies and sociology to address racial inequities. For the purposes
of education in this study, CRT provides an application of critical theory that provides a social justice
paradigm to address educational outcomes (Ladson Billings Donnor, 2005). Paulo Freire argued that
dialogue between those who perpetuate the social inequalities (oppressors) and those who are the
result of those inequalities is needed. Freire also insist that both groups become victims of social
inequality because oppressors often lose their humanity when they oppress. A key concept within CRT
is understanding and identifying the dominant hegemony. Hegemony can be defined as the dominant
thoughts, values and actions of a group and can written and unwritten rules, which govern the actions
and norms of the whole group (Martin Kitchel 2015). The utilization of CRT or critical theory for
educational practices created critical pedagogy that involves everyone in academic programs to ensure
that social justice can help alleviate the inequalities of society (Yosso et al.,

Ted Talk Rhetorical Analysis
Headaches. Low energy. Upset stomach. Sleepless nights. These are just some of the countless side
effects of stress. However, Dr. Kelly McGonigal believes otherwise. In her TED Talk How to make
stress your friend, she describes how stress can be used in a reverse way contradictory to popular
beliefs. Dr. McGonigal is convinced that stress has received a completely negative attitude, which she
deems as wrong. She believes that stress can be manipulated to create positive effects. Dr. Kelly

This ethical appeal is key in convincing her intended audience of her message and being a rhetorical

dealing with stress. She proclaims at the beginning of the speech that she is a health psychologist and
has ten years of experience in dealing with stress. This appeal is essential in convincing both her
audiences. Her experience can be very convincing to the critical thinkers and scholarly leaders who
get accepted and attend the TED conventions. These leaders will listen to someone who has been
educated and has experience. It would be much harder to convince an audience of doctors and teachers

take comfort in the fact that McGonigal has ample experience. They are more open listening to
someone who has field experience and years of education in the subject than someone who doesn t.

experience as a health psychologist. With this experience comes exposure to statistics and research

Physics Of The M N + 1 Ax N
The M n+1 AX n , or MAX phases are ternary carbides or nitrides with a hexagonal crystal structure,
wherein the M n+1 X n layers are interleaved with A layers. M is an early transition metal, A is an A
group element, which is mostly 13 and 14 groups and X is carbon or nitrogen. MAX phases exhibit a
unique combination of properties arising from their atomic bonding and structural characteristics
which situates them on the boundary between metals and ceramic bridging the gap between them [1
6]. Due to the metallic nature of the M and A elements, MAX phases tend to be relatively soft and
readily machinable (due to weak
M A bonds), with good thermal shock resistance as well as damage tolerance, and in addition are
excellent thermal and electrical conductors. Conversely, being carbides and nitrides they exhibit
typical ceramic properties and are good refractory materials, are very stable thermodynamically at
high temperatures, have good chemical resistance and have relatively low thermal expansion
coefficients. These properties make MAX phases amenable for use in the automotive and aerospace
industry[2, 3, 5].
The n in the M n+1 AX n phases, denotes the number of M layers sandwiched between the A layers.
Researchers have reported M 2 AX, M 3 AX 2 , and M 4 AX 3 phases, which refer to the 211, 312,
and 413 phases, respectively. In 1967, Ti 3 SiC 2 and Ti 3 GeC 2 were first synthesized by Jeitschko

Jones and Nicholas are against communism/animalism. Mr. Jones and Nicholas both didn;t prove

what they needed and wanted. His belief in the absolute power of the monarchy resulted in Nicholas
immediate dismissal of any proposals for more democratic forms of government. Nicholas isolated

Persuasive Essay On Multitasking
Multitasking entails having different work activities and shifting attention from one task to another all
at one time. Being able to meet the standards of several different situations without dropping the ball.
The danger in multitasking is that effectiveness can be dangerous if someone tries to carry out too
many tasks at the same time and has to much on there hands. In todays world it isn t just the parents
that have the problem of multi tasking it s also their children too, having a time management matrix is
a pretty good idea on how you spend your time, during all times of the day. For me, multitasking
would effect my friend and I when we go duck hunting. Sometimes modern technology does cause a
distraction, and could be costly for my buddy and I missing ducks. Text messages, phone calls, and in
person contact with constituents. It s become the normal to check my phone and email while i m
enjoying my free time on other tasks.
On the average, 13 to 18 year olds use simultaneously six media sites outside of school, the article
doesn t give any examples of the cites these children use, these age groups multitask more often and
more extensively than previous generations than ever before. The result of the tendency of kids having
to pay continuous partial attention to everything around them. They lose focus easily and the quality

Homeschooling vs. Public School Essay
Homeschooling vs. Public School Homeschooling vs. public school has been a public debate for quite
a while now. Some parents choose homeschooling because of the protection their child gains and
some choose public education because of the atmosphere. Most would claim that public schools aren t
teaching, less trying to create a religious fringe. However; both provide your child education but there
are many advantages and disadvantages for both. When a child is homeschooled, parents naturally
take a greater interest in their child s progress and they have a better oversight of grades. A student
that s attending home school can work at their own pace without feeling rushed to complete
assignments and the test ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Students who attend public school also tend to do better when they get to college. Even when the
funding for school becomes difficult, public school offers more extracurricular activities and
resources. There are several after school programs available for children, his is another way that your
child learn social skills by interacting. The number of students in a public school classroom provides
opportunities that don t exist in most home schools, from large scale projects to team sports. One may
offer a more controlled environment for your child, while the other may expose him or her to a world
of things you could not possibly imagine. Homeschooling, while sometimes more fun, simply cannot
be guaranteed to uphold the necessary educational standards. Public schools will always meet these
standards. You may find it difficult to choose between the two. Making the right choice depends upon
how your child learns, and what you won t them to learn. Teachers are doing their jobs, society try to
make it hard for teachers by cutting pay and not giving enough funding for materials, but they still
seem to make a way to teach our children morals. Some teachers in public school even take time out
to help some of the children that they see are headed for a road of destruction. The difference are
really plain as day, homeschooling cuts them off from society and public school bridges them with the
society so they can be able to face

John Locke s The Second Treatise Of Government
Classical liberalism values the rights and freedoms of the individual, as well as the ability to have
limited government. John Locke s The Second Treatise of Government embraces fundamental parts of
the ideology, including self interest, consent of the governed, as well as equality between citizens.
With these principles being demonstrated, it allows Locke to be seen as the father of Classical
Liberalism. Self interest is one of the most important factors of classical liberalism, and within the
Second Treatise we are shown this through Locke s views on private property. The purpose of
conforming to a society as opposed to staying in the peaceful state of nature, is to make laws...
regulating and preserving property, employing the force of the community in the execution of such
laws, and in the defense of the commonwealth from foreign injury, and all this for the public good. (pg

Locke pursues the idea that we are born with the choice to adhere to a government, and also the extent
to which the government can interfere. Since power is only legitimate with consent, the laws are the
same. People cannot be bound by any laws but such as are enacted by those whom they have chosen
and authorized to make laws for them. (pg 66) Absolute monarchs are not appointed by the citizens,
but instead inherit their position. Therefore, monarchies should have no control over the citizens. Also,
laws are not to abolish or restrain, but to preserve and enlarge freedom... for liberty is to be free from
restraint and violence of others; which cannot be where there is no law. (pg 25) By allowing a
government, it protects the individual and allows government interference only when absolutely
necessary. Liberalism has to do with remaining as free as possible, so there is limited government to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Videoconferencing
Videoconferencing, basically this is the simultaneous real time transmission of audio and video (voice,
moving images) and data such as computer graphics, graphs, electronic documents between selected
users or groups of users.
By using videoconferencing, we see our interlocutor, so we have the impression that we are in one
room with the people attending the meeting.
1.2 Modes of videoconferencing
Point to Point Video Conferencing allows the transmission of audio and video signals between two
locations (people or groups of people gathered in two places). This is the simplest and cheapest mode
as it only uses two terminals and links between them.
Multipoint video conferencing allows the transmission of audio and video signals between several
(more than two) locations. In this mode you will need to use additional network devices such as video
conferencing servers (video conferencing bridges), gateways, gatekeeper, etc. In this mode you can
make another division into:
Voice over mode one location is the voice of the other station they see at their terminal, while the
voice of the terminal sees the person speaking
Conference mode divided monitor includes images from several locations (most often we see images
of participants who recently spoke in the meeting)
Discussion mode unlike the voice over mode, the person currently speaking is seen by all participants
in the meeting.
Management mode one person (the manager) has complete control over

Limitations Of Racist Speech
Limits on Racist Speech in Public Contexts
When the first amendment is brought up, one of the first things that comes to mind is free speech.
Even though we don t give it much thought, our free speech does have limits. The more obvious limits
such as knowing that you can t threaten people or shout Fire! in a crowded space make sense because
it s easy to see how they cause direct harm. These general limits are important in order to ensure a safe
and peaceful society, but when it comes to voicing prejudice views, it becomes difficult to determine
what should and should not be restricted by the first amendment. After all, when negative and hurtful
opinions are directed at a specific group of people, it becomes hard to see how protecting them could
be a good thing. The important thing to remember is that when sharing these views becomes harmful
and leads to harassment, it is no longer protected under the first amendment. However, everyone sees
things differently, so drawing the line between what is just offensive and harassment needs to be
determined and treated on a case by case basis. This will not only allow us to come to a solution for
these individual problems, but it leaves room for discussion which will help to combat the root cause
of prejudice.
While trying to think of ways to regulate racist speech, we might think that an easy solution would be
to place a ban on racist speech altogether, but this quickly becomes problematic. Banning specific
opinions and beliefs would no longer make our speech free, and even when people are permitted to
share wrong or offensive opinions, protecting free speech still has more potential benefit than harm.
This gives us the right to speak out against our government when it is doing something we disagree
with, but it also allows people to share their racist views. If we want to continue to reap the benefits,
we also have to accept that racist speech is a part of free speech, thus protected under the first
amendment. This is not the same thing as saying that racist speech should be unregulated; there are
regulations for when hate speech becomes harmful, but the government shouldn t and isn t responsible
for regulating it. The issue of regulating racist speech is a local

In the scene where Chiron is driving around in his car with a man it is clearly visible that Chiron has
changed. He is wearing baggy shorts with a tank top showing off his muscles and has a gold grill. He
passes some hood members and he pulls out a pistol for protection. This proves if Chiron didn t adapt
and become tough then he would ve still been taken advantage of and probably killed. Another very
important scene within the movie is when he meets his mother when he is older. His mother
emphasizes I messed up. I fucked it all the way up. I know that. But yo heart ain t gotta be black like
mine baby. This shows that Chiron s mother knows she messed up and adapted to the way of life
within their city and she is noticing that he is changing as well. This relates to society because in all
different places around the world especially in dangerous areas, if the people who live within those
areas adapt to the lifestyle than they could be in huge danger. Violence has a major existence in these
areas which is a big cause of people needing to adapt, In communities where gangs thrive, violence

Case Study on Birth Defects
1. How does the class presented case study of birth defects draw together and demonstrate each of the
goals of epidemiologists (15 points)? During class lecture on 4/4/2014, I learned about a case study
regarding neural tube defects (NTD). The instructor, Amy Ham, discussed this study as well as various
ways professionals apply the goals of epidemiology:
To determine the extent of disease found in the community To trace the etiology of disease To study
the natural history of disease in a specific population To evaluate the research To provide the
foundation for developing policy (Ham, 2014)
Researchers in the case study aimed to determine the extent of NTD within the community, trace the
etiology of NTD, and study the natural history of NTD in the specific population. In evaluating their
research, they found that there were no real differences between women with NTD births and those
who had healthy births. The only correlation was that women who did not graduate high school were
twice as likely to have NTD pregnancy (Ham, 2014). It can be speculated that this is because women
who finish high school may have learned more about health, may be older, or better prepared for
pregnancy. The study left many questions about NTD unanswered, however, which provides the
foundation for further research. Additional studies on NTD have demonstrated that enzyme
transformation failures which increase homocysteine levels are responsible for preventing closure of

Role of the Messenger in Antigone
Within the Greek tragedy, Antigone, the Messenger comes to fruition in scene V where he enters and
is used as a vessel to sum up different points of the plot without the need for more characters to be

without complicating the play additional locations and actors. Also, the Messenger allows Sophocles

Sophocles emphasizes that most people lack wisdom, and he presents truth in juxtaposition with
ignorance. Many scenes dramatize flaws in thought or ideals. The protagonist makes an extreme error
that affects others, each of whom reacts in his or her own way causing the main character to take
another step toward ruin. Those who are to suffer from the tragic error usually are present at the time
and realize their fate. Sophocles uses the Messenger to help create the dramatic exchanges in dialogue

Review of Army of Shadows Essay
In Army of Shadows (2008), Hillel Cohen reexamines the typical historical narratives about
Palestinian perspectives prior to the Nakba. Much of the discussion pertains to the changes that took
place within the mindsets of numerous groups of Palestinians during the British Mandate. It could be
beneficial to compare the approach and methodologies of Hillel Cohen s book to Ilan Pappe s The
Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine (2006) and his reassessment of Israel s historical memory. Pappe
focuses on the planning and actions that were taken to ensure an ethnically cleansed Israel and places
this in direct contrast with current perspectives of historical rhetoric. Both authors draw from a variety
of sources in order to adequately examine the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the more important aspects of nationalism in the 1920s was how Arabic newspapers were used
to define notions of treason. Cohen assesses how one is determined to be a traitor, whether through
absentee land sales or contributions to Zionist intelligence organizations, and how this leads to violent
repression of all varieties of treason. It is interesting to note that although nationalism was becoming
rooted within Palestinian society, the notion of treason was not wholly accepted. Widespread concepts
of nationalism did not become the principal component in the basket of identities of each individual
and the one for which he is willing to kill and be killed but instead, in the 1920s, setup the
mechanisms that helped to achieve this goal: establishment of nationalist norms, coercion, and reward.
The press, the religious system..., and the educational system served as central tools to setup the
negative and positive influences into the norms of nationalism. This in turn led to the concepts of who
is a traitor and who is not. As nationalism comes into its own by the riots of 1936, the definition of
who are traitors or collaborators began to take a more specific role. Whether they were opportunists,
village leaders, patriots, or moralists, all found themselves at odds with the rising forms of
nationalism. Common responses within the Palestinian narrative

Discrimination In Maya Essay
Levels of discrimination against girls and the indigenous populations in Guatemala are so high that
native girls experience four times more discrimination than non native males. (Sanghee and Youngran

to education through the United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF). UNICEF efforts in the Maya
populations of Guatemala cannot go unnoticed through its facilitation of multilateral engagement

These efforts are not only felt in Maya communities, but in indigenous populations all over the world.
Evidence of this can be felt by the new zeitgeist that propelled indigenous communities to demand
recognition of rights which, after an arduous battle, materialized in the form of the United Nations
Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (Oldham 9).
The Declaration that many years ago, civil society members and indigenous communities could only

evolving world order towards human rights recognition. One metric in which one can measure the

Lust s Body Count Deyoung Analysis
Before reading Rebecca Konyndyk DeYoung s chapter on lust, my view on the effects of lust were
very different. In the section entitled, Lust s Body Count, DeYoung says, We often live with lust s
collateral damage for the long term (DeYoung, 171). Thus, I agree with DeYoung that the aftermath of
lusting is more a long term and widespread problem than it appears on the surface. Initially, I always
thought of lust being an internal sin that did not really affect anyone outside of the individual
partaking in the lustful activities, but DeYoung has changed my mind about that. I think part of the
problem with my former belief is that the first act that comes to mind is pornography. I think that
pornography generally just has consequences for

The Theory Of Regression Results
DESCRPTION OF REGRESSION RESULTS
In order to empirically examine the extent to which changes in price causes changes in broiler
(chicken) consumption, time series data was collected on 40 observations extending from 1960 to
1999 on nine explanatory variables in total. I regressed this data using an Ordinary Least Squares
(OLS) approach. The main explanatory variable used for my analysis was the consumer price index
(CPI) for whole fresh chicken with the base years denoted as the 1982 to 1984 time period. The
econometric model for my regression analysis is listed below:
Broiler Consumption = a+β_(1 ) (CPI of broilers)+ β_2 (income)+ β_3 (population)+β_(4 ) (CPI for
beef)+β_(5 ) (PPI for corn)+ β_(6 ) (NPI for broiler feed)+β_7 (CPI)+β_8 (AP of Broilers)+β_9
(population)+β_(10 ) (exports of beef,veal and pork)+ ε
Data regarding my dependent variable was originally collected as pounds consumed per capita.
However, I multiplied the per capita broiler consumption data by 100,000 to obtain broiler
consumption in pounds per 100,000 people. In this way, I was able to obtain a larger coefficient on a
few of the variables, which allowed for a more suitable display and discussion of the results in the
paper. Further, the objective of this analysis was to explain to what extent price of broilers (CPI on
whole fresh chicken) impacts broiler consumption in pounds. Specifically, the coefficients on the
explanatory variables illustrate their respective effects on the number

Job Shadowing In Law Enforcement
Before I began job shadowing in the Law Enforcement career field I thought that most of these
occupations were filled with constant excitement. I was under the impression that these were very
active jobs with minimal desk work. As a civilian who has never actually been on the law enforcement
side of things, I thought that the officers on road patrol would have nonstop contact with the public
and have nearly no time in between calls. I felt that the officers that worked in corrections were
constantly having to fight or assert their dominance over the inmates. I did, however, assume that
dispatch would be an undemanding job that required minimal effort. Overall I thought that the officers

as he told me stories and answered all of my questions that I had about his career in road patrol.
Officer Perkins received a call to assist a nearby K9 unit, but we were called off of the scene before
we arrived. Officer Perkins made one traffic stop near the entrance to the highway in Decatur. He did
not allow me to get out of the vehicle, but it was a speeding infraction that he did not end up writing a

places. We spent most of our time on a case that Officer Turner had recently dealt with, it was an
accident that involved a woman in her vehicle driving off into a deep roadside ditch filled with water.
We were trying to gather enough information to find out if she was coming from the nearby bar or
from her home, since she was nearly two times the legal limit for blood alcohol content. We went to

Chlorpromache Research Paper
This week I learnt about chlorpromazine, which is an antipsychotic. It is also used in short term
management of anxiety, agitation or disturbed behaviour in non psychotic disorders. Chlorpromazine
is an antagonist of many receptors, which include α1 adrenoceptor, M3 muscarinic receptor, H1
Histamine receptor, 5HT2 receptor, dopamine D2 receptor and angiotensin II AT1 receptor. This
illustrates one of the pharmacology principles, which is selectivity of a drug. A highly selective drug (
clean drug ) binds to only one receptor or molecular target whereas a drug having low selectivity (
dirty drug ) will bind to many targets in the body. Binding upon many receptors can produce many
effects but some effects are not desired. For example, chlorpromazine ... Show more content on

Morphine mimics endogenous opioids and activates opioid receptors in the central and peripheral
nervous systems. Opioid receptors are G protein coupled receptors which are coupled to Gi protein.
Upon binding of morphine to opioid receptors, it triggers the inhibition of adenylate cyclase enzyme
and ultimately stops the firing of impulses for nociceptive information. After repeated activation of
opioid receptors by morphine, some receptors can be desensitised and binding of morphine to these
receptors can no longer stops the neurotransmission. As a consequence, tolerance to morphine
develops. When a drug is used repeatedly over time, tolerance can develop as the body adapts to the
presence of the drug in the body. Therefore, a higher dose is required to achieve the same desired
effect. For example, for morphine, if tolerance develops, a higher dose is needed in order to attain the
same analgesic effect. Moreover, one of the adverse effects of morphine when it is used for long term
to relieve pain is physical dependence. Dependence develops as a result of tolerance, leading to a
resetting of homeostatic mechanisms that require the continued presence of drug for normal function.
Therefore, if chronic treatment is stopped suddenly or an antagonist is given, withdrawal symptoms
such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, sweating, anxiety can

Mental Illness And Crime Is Not Cause Crime And Violence
Conversations associating mental illness with extreme cases of violence have become, and continue to
become, more and popular in the United States of America. Many people across the nation, and even
in other countries around the world, are demanding answers to an outstanding number of questions.
Why did these tragic events occur? Why do these tragic events continue to occur? Why is it that
whenever a mass shooting occurs the suspect claims insanity? What is insanity? Are they telling the
truth or is it just a cover up? Does mental illness really cause crime? There are so many questions all
with varying supplementary scenarios however, I will focus on my belief that although mental illness
does not cause crime and violence, it does contribute to it. I believe that the first and most important
problem in this controversy is the lack of understanding what both mental illness and crime is. Robert
Schug refers to both terms as umbrella terms in Stacy Mallicoat s Crime and Criminal Justice:
Concepts and Controversies (2016). Mental illness consists of numerous complex conditions that
alters one s state of mind with ranging severities and crime consists of varying levels of behaviors and
actions that are against the law. The relationship that exists between mental illness and crime is not
only crucial, but it is complex. When a crime is committed, ultimately the goal is for the offender to be
rightfully charged and punished. But let s say one who suffers from schizophrenia was

In the legal and social realm, the Magna Carta was one of the first documents in history to guarantee
rights and freedoms for the common people. The document which is the foundation of our liberties ,
the Magna Carta was truly a remarkable new idea in the beginning of the rise out of the feudal system.
For the first time, subjects of the King were demanding certain rights, which were never even thought
of as rights before this document was drafted in 1215 C.E. Lastly, technology itself was setting the
stage for the dawning of the age of exploration. All of these developments as well as others would set
the stage for man s great awakening out of the Middle Ages and his renaissance soon to come.
Gothic architecture dominated the architectural style of Western Europe for over 400 years. The
Gothic style was not only used in Churches but it also was seen in whole towns. Gothic architects
designed courthouses, hospitals, town halls and royal palaces. It was in its churches where we see the
amazing glorification of God and the intentional subordination of man with the advent of this style.
The transcendental character of medieval religious architecture was given a special form in the Gothic

The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Charity
In 2001, Frank Baird founded the charity event Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: The International Men s
March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault, and Gender Violence in an effort to engage more men in the fight
against sexual violence and domestic abuse in the United States and abroad (Walk a Mile in Her
Shoes, n.d.). Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is a mile long charity walk where men literally walk, jog, run,
and occasionally trip in high heels, customarily red (the classic emblem for the walk). However, all
types of traditional women s shoes are fine, and anyone who cannot wear heels or has special needs,
such as a wheelchair, is encouraged to participate and help raise awareness of this pressing issue while
also raising money for community resources that help survivors of sexual assault and domestic abuse.
Several Walk a Mile in Her Shoes charity walks have been successfully held in locations like Logan
and Orem, UT. I have personally volunteered as a Blister Sister during Park City s recent Walk a Mile
in Her Shoes event which benefitted the Peace House. However, the most populous county in Utah,
Salt Lake County, has never held a Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event and I think 2014 is the perfect
time to bring this celebrated event to Salt Lake City. Like other Walk a Mile in Her Shoes events,

Genes and Their Control Over Humans Essay
Genes and Their Control Over Humans
They (genes) are in you and me; they created us, body and mind
This statement by Richard Dawkins poses the question of how much and in what way our genes
control us, whether they are responsible for our hereditary features only, or for all behavior and
environmental aspects of our persona.
A reductionist view implies that only specific tasks are carried out by the genes. We know that most
genes synthesize for proteins, these being chains of sub units, or amino acids (a.a) which in turn form
the bases of RNA ( ribonucleic acid) to determine the sequence of the a.a by means of the genetic
code. This process dictates whether the protein made will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was at this point that Gregor Mendel s work, on the theory of heredity, was revived. This formed the
basis of all future genetic studies.
Mendel had suggested that an individual s characteristics were determined by inherited factors. This
finding was proved to be correct when later microscopes were able to show proof that these factors,
known now alleles, could be related to the actions of the chromosomes, the carriers of genes, during
meiosis.
Thus, the theory that genes were the basis of all biological characteristics of inheritance became
accepted.
Both Mendel and Darwin have presented their theories from a reductionist viewpoint. Dawkins
statement from The Selfish Gene would appear to give an holistic viewpoint by including the
psychological, as well as biological, aspect of gene control.
2
To decide whether this is the viewpoint being put forward it is necessary to investigate known causes
of gene manipulation. This would encompass every factor of nature and nurture, from genetic
inheritance; be it eye or hair colour, or diseases such as cystic fibrosis, Huntington s chorea or
haemophilia. Cystic fibrosis is an example of an autosomal recessive alteration within a single gene,
this gene has been identified as lying on chromosome number 7. Huntington s chorea meanwhile,
although again arising from an

What Is The Vedic Age Essay
The Vedic age in India started around 1500 BC with the arrival of Aryans, an Indo European tribe
from central Asia near the Caspian Sea. Aryans settled along the banks of the Indus and its tributaries
in the northern part of the subcontinent. Initially, it was a tribal society centred in northwest India and
by 1000 BC, it spread along the Gangetic plain with the development of modern agriculture. Aryans
dominated the local indigenous population and often ruled over them. Over time, the interbreeding
with the local residents led to the emergence of mixed culture. The Vedic age lasted from 1500 BC to
500 BC. Agriculture and cattle rearing were the main occupations of the people. The Vedas and
Upanishads were written during this period. The early Vedic beliefs formed the foundation of
Hinduism. People worshipped Gods such as Indra, Agni, Varuna, Vayu, Prajapati, Vishnu, Rudra, etc.

Domestic Terrorism And Its Effect On Terrorism Essay
Domestic terrorism consists of violations against federal and state law that put humans into danger.
The purpose of domestic terrorism is to influence or to instill fear into the population and government.
Terrorism comes in forms of gun violence, assassinations, and destruction (1). Since 1970, there have
been 2,608 attacks and 226 fatal attacks up until 2011 (3). In 1867, the development of dynamite
contributed to increasing terrorism, and radicals have used explosives to bring attention to political
issues within the country. This invention led to the Haymarket Affair, Los Angeles Times, and the
Preparedness Day bombings (2). What has further caused domestic terrorism has been the argument
over who is an American. This explains the emergence of the Boston Tea Party and the white
supremacy of the Ku Klux Klan which both occurred to claim what being an authentic American
means (3). After the Cold war, domestic intelligence and law enforcement suppressed terrorist plots,
but since the leader of al Qaeda increased website usage in 2003, more internet terrorist sites have
grown. In 2009, the FBI stated that there were approximately 15,000 websites that advocated terrorism
with 10,000 sites still active on 80% of U.S based servers. (4) An example of an attack was the
Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 which resulted in 168 people dead and 600 people injured; the
motivation for this was to show the opposition against the U.S government by bombing the Alfred P.

Procedural Law Research Paper
A variation of laws exist today in the United States that allow the protection of people rights, freedoms
and wrongdoings. Constitutional law was ratified from the Constitution in 1788 and adopted from the
Bill of Rights in 1791. Constitutional law gave lawmakers the power to create or define new crimes
and also put limits on the federal government. The Constitution established the framework on how the
government works, but the Bill of Rights was established to give individuals rights ad freedoms
against the national government. The first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution outlined rights
granted to American citizens such as, freedom of speech, press, religion and freedom of assembly. In
the terms of protecting citizens, the founders and the criminal justice system put limits on police
behavior. The Fourth Amendment puts limits on the admissibility of confessions obtained ... Show

Substantive law can be defined as the part of the law that creates, defines, and regulates rights ,
(Marion Oliver 2012) p.7. This law is typically focused on the rights afforded to all citizens under the
Constitution, precisely the rights found in the Bill of Rights. Protections such as unreasonable search
and seizures, the right to a public and speedy trial, the right against excessive bail, and cruel and
unusual punishments. Procedural law refers to the branch of law that prescribes in detail the methods
or procedures used in determining and enforcing the rights and duties of persons toward each other
under substantive law , (Marion Oliver 2012) p.7. Procedural law focuses profoundly on the
administrative practice in which citizen s rights are guaranteed. One aspect of procedural law is that
no one can ever be derived of their life, liberty, or property without due process. An example such as
the police must appear before a judge to secure a warrant prior to entering a person s property or to

The Contribution Of Victoria Claflin Woodhull
Victoria Claflin Woodhull was born on September 23rd, 1838 in Homer, Ohio. She was an extremely
talented and gifted individual who received little to no education throughout her lifetime. She did not
attend school until much later, when she was about eight or nine years old. Nevertheless, Victoria
knew at a very young age that it was her destiny to accomplish great things. She was typically admired
by women because of her courageous acts of individualism. She was fearless and was not afraid to
stand up for what she believed in which was shocking at the time, because women s issues were not
taken into consideration. She was truly a remarkable and a powerful figure during the 19th century in
the United States. She is notably recognized for being the first woman in history to run for president in
the United States in 1872, as well as the first woman to ever address Congress regarding women s
suffrage in 1871. She was a passionate feminist, an advocate for equal education for women, civil
rights, she supported women s right to vote, and believed that women should have the right to be in
control of their own lives and have the freedom to make their own decisions. She also believed in the
concept of free love , which gave women the freedom to marry, divorce, and have children if they so
pleased without the government, or anyone else for that matter, controlling them or telling them what
to do in their situation. Victoria had vowed to become a leader in the fight

Summary Of Alzheimer s Disease By Elizabeth Cohen
Daddy had Alzheimer s disease. Mother couldn t take care of him, her sister couldn t, obviously she
had to take him in... Wouldn t you? In 1998, Elizabeth Cohen s father had come down with a sever
case of Alzheimer s. Her mother would call and conference with her and her sister, telling them of his
rapid degeneration. The way she describes her parents love story was almost fairytale like. They ate
together, laughed together, and so on. Everything was perfect except for one thing; her mother hated
kids. Elizabeth had, what she describes to be, a vexing and confusing childhood. Her mother kept her
at bay from her father, and mother seemed to merely put up with her kids rather than take motherly
care of them. Elizabeth s dad or Daddy had been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She spent so much time taking care of Daddy that Ava s time with her was somewhat neglected. Ava
would find things, she would fall on the stairs, Daddy found some scissors and dropped them on his
foot (Cohen 37). Daddy accidentally lights a fire in the trash can in his room (Cohen 74). No one
could say that this was a safe arrangement. She was running ragged, barely having time to take care of
herself. It s hard to find more positives in this scene. Shane eventually comes back, but would he have
stayed if Daddy had not come. Did he sign up to take care of a mindless old man, and his daughter at
the same time? How much say did Shane really have? She was in fact, a little ambiguous as to
whether the decision was discussed in detail. And not only was Ava slightly neglected, but there were
several instances where Daddy might lose control of his bowels or wander the house; not very good
situation for a single mother and

Pope Francis Influence
On March 13, 2013 white smoke ushered in a new era within the Roman Catholic Church. For the first
time in its history, a Pope from the Americas was chosen to lead. It was expected that the newly
elected American Pope, who called himself Francis after St. Francis of Assisi, would help restore the
Catholic Church s reputation, reform the clerical bureaucracy, and reinvigorate Catholic participation.
In the first few months of his papacy, that is exactly what he did.
Pope Francis did away with ornate and rigid traditions of previous popes. He restructured core Vatican
institutions such as the clerical hierarchy and the banking system, in order to drive out corruption. His
messages of simplicity and mercy were engrained in unselfish gestures, such as the washing of
offenders feet, (something) , and (something), that helped bring Catholics back into the fold. Yet, for
some Catholics, like Maureen Dowd, Pope Francis efforts have not changed the church enough.

In her piece, Dowd spoke against Pope Francis lack of support for a group of American nuns who had
publically endorsed liberal legislation (such as contraception, gay rights and abortion as well as a
feminization of God) that contradicted long held church teachings. Dowd questioned how Pope
Francis could confess to believe in social justice and helping the poor when he failed to prevent
orthodox clergy from chastising nuns who held beliefs that would seemingly align with the Pope s
own motto of Who am I to judge . Her article linked this instance on non action to another instance of
non action in Argentinia s Dirty war

  • 2. Allen Stanford s Ponzi Scheme Allen Stanford s Ponzi scheme is considered to be one of the top grossing Ponzi schemes that have been at the forefront of white collar crime. As stated on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission website, a Ponzi scheme is an investment fraud that involves the payment of purported returns to earlier investors by the contribution of new investors that promises to generate high returns with little or no risk (Sec.gov). These schemes take advantage of people who put their faith in the offender out of trust or any other personal reason and in the case of Allen Stanford it is no different. Allen Stanford used his status that he had built throughout his life to take advantage of many people through the use of Certificates of Deposit. His alpha male persona had built an empire by defrauding individuals out of what has been reported up to $6 billion and some sources have estimated up to $8 billion. This paper will discuss how Mr. Stanford went from king to prison in a 20 year span. Allen Stanford was born in Mexia, Texas to a lower middle class family. Stanford s parents eventually divorced and he moved to Fort Worth, Texas. Tim Elfrink of the Broward/Palm Beach New Times stated that people who knew Allen Stanford at a young age said that he was always out to make a quick buck and he was well known for this. Some of his first ventures into making money were selling firewood (Elfrink, 2009). Bob Wright, an acquaintance of Stanford s from back in Mexia, Texas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even fans of aggressive looking hood scoops would sometimes rather see them as part of the sheet metal hood structure as opposed to a giant sized and oddly shaped air cleaner. However, for those wanting to see their engine come to life, while sitting in the driver seat, this option will continue to be a popular one. Here we ll discuss some of the All American muscle cars that made this option available. We ll also discuss a few problems associated with an air scoop connected to a moving engine, protruding like a periscope through a large hole cut in the hood. Background on the Shaker Hood Although you probably already know where the name comes from, let s quickly give this part a definition and discuss its origins. In 1969 the [Ford Mustang design team] was looking for a unique hood scoop to use on their aggressive V8 engines. Issues with recruitment and retention of underrepresented minorities are illustrated in workforce hiring and enrollment in higher education institutions. In particular, Colleges of Agriculture and related industries have shown to lag behind other fields in metrics related to diversity, equality, and inclusion. For example, in Purdue University s College of Agriculture of the 2,736 students currently enrolled only 193 students were underrepresented minorities. Recognizing the application of CRT in other disciplines, it began to expand to education, women s studies and sociology to address racial inequities. For the purposes of education in this study, CRT provides an application of critical theory that provides a social justice paradigm to address educational outcomes (Ladson Billings Donnor, 2005). Paulo Freire argued that dialogue between those who perpetuate the social inequalities (oppressors) and those who are the result of those inequalities is needed. Freire also insist that both groups become victims of social inequality because oppressors often lose their humanity when they oppress. A key concept within CRT is understanding and identifying the dominant hegemony. Hegemony can be defined as the dominant thoughts, values and actions of a group and can written and unwritten rules, which govern the actions and norms of the whole group (Martin Kitchel 2015). The utilization of CRT or critical theory for educational practices created critical pedagogy that involves everyone in academic programs to ensure that social justice can help alleviate the inequalities of society (Yosso et al., ... • 6. Physics Of The M N + 1 Ax N The M n+1 AX n , or MAX phases are ternary carbides or nitrides with a hexagonal crystal structure, wherein the M n+1 X n layers are interleaved with A layers. M is an early transition metal, A is an A group element, which is mostly 13 and 14 groups and X is carbon or nitrogen. MAX phases exhibit a unique combination of properties arising from their atomic bonding and structural characteristics which situates them on the boundary between metals and ceramic bridging the gap between them [1 6]. Due to the metallic nature of the M and A elements, MAX phases tend to be relatively soft and readily machinable (due to weak M A bonds), with good thermal shock resistance as well as damage tolerance, and in addition are excellent thermal and electrical conductors. Conversely, being carbides and nitrides they exhibit typical ceramic properties and are good refractory materials, are very stable thermodynamically at high temperatures, have good chemical resistance and have relatively low thermal expansion coefficients. These properties make MAX phases amenable for use in the automotive and aerospace industry[2, 3, 5]. The n in the M n+1 AX n phases, denotes the number of M layers sandwiched between the A layers. Researchers have reported M 2 AX, M 3 AX 2 , and M 4 AX 3 phases, which refer to the 211, 312, and 413 phases, respectively. With these principles being demonstrated, it allows Locke to be seen as the father of Classical Liberalism. By using videoconferencing, we see our interlocutor, so we have the impression that we are in one room with the people attending the meeting. 1.2 Modes of videoconferencing Point to Point Video Conferencing allows the transmission of audio and video signals between two locations (people or groups of people gathered in two places). This is the simplest and cheapest mode as it only uses two terminals and links between them. • 14. Limitations Of Racist Speech Limits on Racist Speech in Public Contexts When the first amendment is brought up, one of the first things that comes to mind is free speech. Even though we don t give it much thought, our free speech does have limits. The more obvious limits such as knowing that you can t threaten people or shout Fire! in a crowded space make sense because it s easy to see how they cause direct harm. These general limits are important in order to ensure a safe and peaceful society, but when it comes to voicing prejudice views, it becomes difficult to determine what should and should not be restricted by the first amendment. After all, when negative and hurtful opinions are directed at a specific group of people, it becomes hard to see how protecting them could be a good thing. The important thing to remember is that when sharing these views becomes harmful and leads to harassment, it is no longer protected under the first amendment. However, everyone sees things differently, so drawing the line between what is just offensive and harassment needs to be determined and treated on a case by case basis. This will not only allow us to come to a solution for these individual problems, but it leaves room for discussion which will help to combat the root cause of prejudice. While trying to think of ways to regulate racist speech, we might think that an easy solution would be to place a ban on racist speech altogether, but this quickly becomes problematic. Banning specific opinions and beliefs would no longer make our speech free, and even when people are permitted to share wrong or offensive opinions, protecting free speech still has more potential benefit than harm. This gives us the right to speak out against our government when it is doing something we disagree with, but it also allows people to share their racist views. If we want to continue to reap the benefits, we also have to accept that racist speech is a part of free speech, thus protected under the first amendment. This is not the same thing as saying that racist speech should be unregulated; there are regulations for when hate speech becomes harmful, but the government shouldn t and isn t responsible for regulating it. The issue of regulating racist speech is a local ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During class lecture on 4/4/2014, I learned about a case study regarding neural tube defects (NTD). The instructor, Amy Ham, discussed this study as well as various ways professionals apply the goals of epidemiology: To determine the extent of disease found in the community To trace the etiology of disease To study the natural history of disease in a specific population To evaluate the research To provide the foundation for developing policy (Ham, 2014) Researchers in the case study aimed to determine the extent of NTD within the community, trace the etiology of NTD, and study the natural history of NTD in the specific population. In evaluating their research, they found that there were no real differences between women with NTD births and those who had healthy births. The only correlation was that women who did not graduate high school were twice as likely to have NTD pregnancy (Ham, 2014). It can be speculated that this is because women who finish high school may have learned more about health, may be older, or better prepared for pregnancy. The study left many questions about NTD unanswered, however, which provides the foundation for further research. Sophocles uses the Messenger to help create the dramatic exchanges in dialogue between the characters, captivating the audience. These techniques don t just help portray the scene but also examine the characters and create a terrifying atmosphere whereby the audience is left in awe. Therefore, it transforms the passage from a narrative into a vivid actuality and making a strong appeal to the senses. The speaker makes his hearer into a kind of pseudo eyewitness. Sophocles uses the Messenger to sum up the plot at the time. He comes in as a sort of a middle man in the whole mix. He comes in and confronts Creon about all the mistakes he has made with what he had recently done. Seeing as there was no character that would dare confront Creon. Much of the discussion pertains to the changes that took place within the mindsets of numerous groups of Palestinians during the British Mandate. It could be beneficial to compare the approach and methodologies of Hillel Cohen s book to Ilan Pappe s The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine (2006) and his reassessment of Israel s historical memory. Pappe focuses on the planning and actions that were taken to ensure an ethnically cleansed Israel and places this in direct contrast with current perspectives of historical rhetoric. One of the more important aspects of nationalism in the 1920s was how Arabic newspapers were used to define notions of treason. Cohen assesses how one is determined to be a traitor, whether through absentee land sales or contributions to Zionist intelligence organizations, and how this leads to violent repression of all varieties of treason. It is interesting to note that although nationalism was becoming rooted within Palestinian society, the notion of treason was not wholly accepted. Widespread concepts of nationalism did not become the principal component in the basket of identities of each individual and the one for which he is willing to kill and be killed but instead, in the 1920s, setup the mechanisms that helped to achieve this goal: establishment of nationalist norms, coercion, and reward. The press, the religious system..., and the educational system served as central tools to setup the negative and positive influences into the norms of nationalism. This in turn led to the concepts of who is a traitor and who is not. As nationalism comes into its own by the riots of 1936, the definition of who are traitors or collaborators began to take a more specific role. Whether they were opportunists, village leaders, patriots, or moralists, all found themselves at odds with the rising forms of nationalism. Common responses within the Palestinian narrative ... Thus, I agree with DeYoung that the aftermath of lusting is more a long term and widespread problem than it appears on the surface. Initially, I always thought of lust being an internal sin that did not really affect anyone outside of the individual partaking in the lustful activities, but DeYoung has changed my mind about that. The Theory Of Regression Results DESCRPTION OF REGRESSION RESULTS In order to empirically examine the extent to which changes in price causes changes in broiler (chicken) consumption, time series data was collected on 40 observations extending from 1960 to 1999 on nine explanatory variables in total. I regressed this data using an Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) approach. The main explanatory variable used for my analysis was the consumer price index (CPI) for whole fresh chicken with the base years denoted as the 1982 to 1984 time period. The econometric model for my regression analysis is listed below: Broiler Consumption = a+β_(1 ) (CPI of broilers)+ β_2 (income)+ β_3 (population)+β_(4 ) (CPI for beef)+β_(5 ) (PPI for corn)+ β_(6 ) (NPI for broiler feed)+β_7 (CPI)+β_8 (AP of Broilers)+β_9 (population)+β_(10 ) (exports of beef, veal and pork)+ ε Data regarding my dependent variable was originally collected as pounds consumed per capita. However, I multiplied the per capita broiler consumption data by 100,000 to obtain broiler consumption in pounds per 100,000 people. In this way, I was able to obtain a larger coefficient on a few of the variables, which allowed for a more suitable display and discussion of the results in the paper. Further, the objective of this analysis was to explain to what extent price of broilers (CPI on whole fresh chicken) impacts broiler consumption in pounds. It is also used in short term management of anxiety, agitation or disturbed behaviour in non psychotic disorders. Chlorpromazine is an antagonist of many receptors, which include α1 adrenoceptor, M3 muscarinic receptor, H1 Histamine receptor, 5HT2 receptor, dopamine D2 receptor and angiotensin II AT1 receptor. This illustrates one of the pharmacology principles, which is selectivity of a drug. A highly selective drug ( clean drug ) binds to only one receptor or molecular target whereas a drug having low selectivity ( dirty drug ) will bind to many targets in the body. Binding upon many receptors can produce many effects but some effects are not desired. For example, chlorpromazine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Morphine mimics endogenous opioids and activates opioid receptors in the central and peripheral nervous systems. Opioid receptors are G protein coupled receptors which are coupled to Gi protein. Upon binding of morphine to opioid receptors, it triggers the inhibition of adenylate cyclase enzyme and ultimately stops the firing of impulses for nociceptive information. After repeated activation of opioid receptors by morphine, some receptors can be desensitised and binding of morphine to these receptors can no longer stops the neurotransmission. As a consequence, tolerance to morphine develops. When a drug is used repeatedly over time, tolerance can develop as the body adapts to the presence of the drug in the body. Therefore, a higher dose is required to achieve the same desired effect. For example, for morphine, if tolerance develops, a higher dose is needed in order to attain the same analgesic effect. Moreover, one of the adverse effects of morphine when it is used for long term to relieve pain is physical dependence. Dependence develops as a result of tolerance, leading to a resetting of homeostatic mechanisms that require the continued presence of drug for normal function. Therefore, if chronic treatment is stopped suddenly or an antagonist is given, withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, sweating, anxiety can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mental Illness And Crime Is Not Cause Crime And Violence Conversations associating mental illness with extreme cases of violence have become, and continue to become, more and popular in the United States of America. Many people across the nation, and even in other countries around the world, are demanding answers to an outstanding number of questions. Why did these tragic events occur? Why do these tragic events continue to occur? Why is it that whenever a mass shooting occurs the suspect claims insanity? What is insanity? Are they telling the truth or is it just a cover up? Does mental illness really cause crime? There are so many questions all with varying supplementary scenarios however, I will focus on my belief that although mental illness does not cause crime and violence, it does contribute to it. I believe that the first and most important problem in this controversy is the lack of understanding what both mental illness and crime is. Robert Schug refers to both terms as umbrella terms in Stacy Mallicoat s Crime and Criminal Justice: Concepts and Controversies (2016). Mental illness consists of numerous complex conditions that alters one s state of mind with ranging severities and crime consists of varying levels of behaviors and actions that are against the law. The relationship that exists between mental illness and crime is not only crucial, but it is complex. When a crime is committed, ultimately the goal is for the offender to be rightfully charged and punished. But let s say one who suffers from schizophrenia was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A reductionist view implies that only specific tasks are carried out by the genes. We know that most genes synthesize for proteins, these being chains of sub units, or amino acids (a.a) which in turn form the bases of RNA ( ribonucleic acid) to determine the sequence of the a.a by means of the genetic code. This formed the basis of all future genetic studies. Mendel had suggested that an individual s characteristics were determined by inherited factors. This finding was proved to be correct when later microscopes were able to show proof that these factors, known now alleles, could be related to the actions of the chromosomes, the carriers of genes, during meiosis. Thus, the theory that genes were the basis of all biological characteristics of inheritance became accepted. Both Mendel and Darwin have presented their theories from a reductionist viewpoint. Dawkins statement from The Selfish Gene would appear to give an holistic viewpoint by including the psychological, as well as biological, aspect of gene control. 2 To decide whether this is the viewpoint being put forward it is necessary to investigate known causes of gene manipulation. The purpose of domestic terrorism is to influence or to instill fear into the population and government. Terrorism comes in forms of gun violence, assassinations, and destruction (1). Since 1970, there have been 2,608 attacks and 226 fatal attacks up until 2011 (3). In 1867, the development of dynamite contributed to increasing terrorism, and radicals have used explosives to bring attention to political issues within the country. This invention led to the Haymarket Affair, Los Angeles Times, and the Preparedness Day bombings (2). What has further caused domestic terrorism has been the argument over who is an American. This explains the emergence of the Boston Tea Party and the white supremacy of the Ku Klux Klan which both occurred to claim what being an authentic American means (3). This law is typically focused on the rights afforded to all citizens under the Constitution, precisely the rights found in the Bill of Rights. Protections such as unreasonable search and seizures, the right to a public and speedy trial, the right against excessive bail, and cruel and unusual punishments. Procedural law refers to the branch of law that prescribes in detail the methods or procedures used in determining and enforcing the rights and duties of persons toward each other under substantive law , (Marion Oliver 2012) p.7. • 44. The Contribution Of Victoria Claflin Woodhull Victoria Claflin Woodhull was born on September 23rd, 1838 in Homer, Ohio. She was an extremely talented and gifted individual who received little to no education throughout her lifetime. She did not attend school until much later, when she was about eight or nine years old. Nevertheless, Victoria knew at a very young age that it was her destiny to accomplish great things. She was typically admired by women because of her courageous acts of individualism. She was fearless and was not afraid to stand up for what she believed in which was shocking at the time, because women s issues were not taken into consideration. She was truly a remarkable and a powerful figure during the 19th century in the United States. She is notably recognized for being the first woman in history to run for president in the United States in 1872, as well as the first woman to ever address Congress regarding women s suffrage in 1871. She was a passionate feminist, an advocate for equal education for women, civil rights, she supported women s right to vote, and believed that women should have the right to be in control of their own lives and have the freedom to make their own decisions. She also believed in the concept of free love , which gave women the freedom to marry, divorce, and have children if they so pleased without the government, or anyone else for that matter, controlling them or telling them what to do in their situation. Victoria had vowed to become a leader in the fight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Summary Of Alzheimer s Disease By Elizabeth Cohen Daddy had Alzheimer s disease. Mother couldn t take care of him, her sister couldn t, obviously she had to take him in... Wouldn t you? In 1998, Elizabeth Cohen s father had come down with a sever case of Alzheimer s. Her mother would call and conference with her and her sister, telling them of his rapid degeneration. The way she describes her parents love story was almost fairytale like. They ate together, laughed together, and so on. Everything was perfect except for one thing; her mother hated kids. Elizabeth had, what she describes to be, a vexing and confusing childhood. Her mother kept her at bay from her father, and mother seemed to merely put up with her kids rather than take motherly care of them. Elizabeth s dad or Daddy had been ... Ava would find things, she would fall on the stairs, Daddy found some scissors and dropped them on his foot (Cohen 37). Daddy accidentally lights a fire in the trash can in his room (Cohen 74). No one could say that this was a safe arrangement. She was running ragged, barely having time to take care of herself. It s hard to find more positives in this scene. Shane eventually comes back, but would he have stayed if Daddy had not come. Did he sign up to take care of a mindless old man, and his daughter at the same time? How much say did Shane really have? She was in fact, a little ambiguous as to whether the decision was discussed in detail. And not only was Ava slightly neglected, but there were several instances where Daddy might lose control of his bowels or wander the house; not very good situation for a single mother and ... • 47. Pope Francis Influence On March 13, 2013 white smoke ushered in a new era within the Roman Catholic Church. For the first time in its history, a Pope from the Americas was chosen to lead. It was expected that the newly elected American Pope, who called himself Francis after St. Francis of Assisi, would help restore the Catholic Church s reputation, reform the clerical bureaucracy, and reinvigorate Catholic participation. In the first few months of his papacy, that is exactly what he did. Pope Francis did away with ornate and rigid traditions of previous popes. He restructured core Vatican institutions such as the clerical hierarchy and the banking system, in order to drive out corruption. His messages of simplicity and mercy were engrained in unselfish gestures, such as the washing of offenders feet, (something) , and (something), that helped bring Catholics back into the fold. Yet, for some Catholics, like Maureen Dowd, Pope Francis efforts have not changed the church enough. Summary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In her piece, Dowd spoke against Pope Francis lack of support for a group of American nuns who had publically endorsed liberal legislation (such as contraception, gay rights and abortion as well as a feminization of God) that contradicted long held church teachings. Dowd questioned how Pope Francis could confess to believe in social justice and helping the poor when he failed to prevent orthodox clergy from chastising nuns who held beliefs that would seemingly align with the Pope s own motto of Who am I to judge .
