states that the responsibility of a manager is solely to the shareholders; he or she must follow the
shareholders interests as long as it stays within legal and certain social parameters. In this essay, I will
further explain Friedman s arguments, address main counterpoints, and ultimately argue that Friedman
s conclusion is a correct and normative view of the moral responsibility from the perspective of
management in a non private company.
The shareholder approach to managerial moral responsibility has a few main points that are necessary
to address in explaining Friedman s argument, especially in the context of distinguishing the approach
from other arguments that have been suggested as alternative approaches.
Friedman s first two arguments are similar in nature they both point out the lack of ownership of a

During the Second World War My grandfather had served in the United States Navy starting in 1944.
During his time in the war he was able to visit many islands that were once being occupied by the
Japanese and could see the remainders of their rule. He was able to see what had happened to the local
people who got caught in the middle of a war that they had no place in and how it affect all of them.
That is what I researched, how the Japanese treated the people that they occupied and what had
happened to the people during the Second World War. Before the start of the war many of the islands
in the pacific had been inhabited by native people, and during the Age of Imperialism many islands
had been taking over by European powers for their natural resources. These islands being just south of
Japan had gained their interest for both economic and strategic reasons and they began to take control
of them in the late 1800 s. Then throughout the war the Japanese had captured many islands during the
war and had moved some ways into China as well. The people who would be used as a labor force and
sometimes the women would become comfort women or sex slaves. It is shown that the way that the
Japanese treated the inhabitants was poor and towards the end of the war when the Americans came in

In this day and age, soap is manufactured with a process called saponification. This is the process of
where fats and oils are heated with the presence of a strong base usually sodium hydroxide or
potassium hydroxide, this produces a fatty acid salt and glycerol. The salt of the fatty acid is the waxy
and soft material of the soap. Soap is one of the greatest products to be ever invented by humans. It
has a great deal of multi purposes such has getting objects clean or even killing bacteria. Just like any
other inventions, soap has its flaws. One of the main flaws would be that it has a tendency to form
precipitates in hard water. Washing with soap in hard water leads to reacting with chemicals to form
sum, which forces to throw out the soap since you cannot clean anything. In 1916 the first synthetic
soap was invented in Germany during World War I due to the shortage of fats for making the soap as
well so it doesn t react with hard water.8 The pH, how it lathers, removes grease and removes dirt is
how a soap can be determined to be a either a good soap or a bad one.

What does it mean to be a man? This question is an abstract, complex, and profound inquiry into the
essence of manhood that humanity may never truly discover a conclusive understanding. The various
facets that encompass the concept of manhood are numerous, but the often unexplainable connection
amongst power and manhood seems to be a mainstay in the opinions of men regardless of race,
gender, or sexual orientation. In Richard Wright s short story, The Man Who Was Almost a Man ,
Wright addresses the relationship between power and the desire to become a man. Throughout this
literary piece, white men and black men engage in conflicts of power both within their ethnic
communities and across racial groups. However, the aspiration of a young black boy named Dave to
obtain power in order to ascend into manhood is the focal point of this short story. Dave s attempt at
transitioning from a boy to a man is an arduous journey that arguably concludes in failure (Wright, 3
18). Although written to supply Dave a means to achieve power and manhood in a new environment,
the conclusion of The Man Who Was Almost a Man could have been fashioned in an ironic and
