Similarities Between Martin Luther And Star Wood
Martin Luther, essentially a nobody with credentials, grew to become one of the most influential
persons in the 16th century. Though his message was fought off by the Catholic church, with the help
of the printing press and his followers, Luther s message was able to spread throughout Europe.
Similarly, taking a look at the message of may your brief candle shine brightly from Once Upon a
Timepiece by Starr Wood, both messages of history traveled through time due to the unforeseen
circumstances one calls history. By examining the choices each individual made, it is clear to see how
greed and circumstance play a deep role in both Andrew Pettegree s Brand Luther and Starr Wood s
Once Upon a Timepiece.
Brand Luther, the detailed story of how Martin Luther, a former monk, became the backbone of a
religious reformation starts off in Wittenberg: the home of maybe two thousand at the time of Luther s
arrival. Wittenberg would become known as the starting place of the reformation, but prior to Luther s
writings was a poor, unattractive town, with old, small, ugly wooden houses, more like a village than a
town (Pettegree 7). Yet ironically, with the help of Martin, Wittenberg would thrive economically due
to the printing press s success in sending and selling his every last written word all over Europe.
Though the printing press was only first established in Wittenberg in 1502, Wittenberg would become
the printing capitol of the world by 1543 (Pettegree 11).

Fertility Control
Fertility control is the key to the development of less developed countries like those of the Caribbean .
Critically assess the above statement in relation to any two named countries.
To begin, firstly fertility or fertility rate must first be understood. Fertility rate is the actual level of
childbearing of an individual or population. (Oxford Dictionary of Sociology, pg. 254). Fertility
control is seen as a method which ensures development by limiting the quantity of natural, financial
and other resources to be spent on the economically inactive. (Sociology for Caribbean Studies, pg.
321). Demographers believe the concept that in each country there is an optimum population in which
there are sufficient resources in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This overpopulation, lack of education and sufficient resources can be seen to have caused the lack of
development in Haiti. The government of Haiti has not come up with an operational family planning
program to control growing population numbers.
Thus initiative needs to be taken in regards to their health program in order to decrease their total
fertility rate. In Jamaica, their fertility rate has seen a substantial drop as a result of the part played by
the country s family planning agency, the National Family Planning Board (NFPB). The Acting
Executive Director of the National Family Planning Board, Dr. Sharlene Jarrett, has said that in
Jamaica in the early 1970 s we averaged 4.5 children born to women between ages 15 and 49 and we
see where in 2008, it was 2.4 and this is just a little above the ideal replacement level. . This decrease
is seen as a great achievement for Jamaica and is a major step in Jamaica developing in their economic
and social infrastructure. The decrease in the amount of children born to a Jamaican woman and in
total the overall children born within the country is an important stage for their development. With a
low fertility rate the country s resources

Part 1 Gasoline Research Paper
Part One: Gasoline
1.
Gasoline is used in a wide array of appliances, for example, your car, tractors, and lawn mowers of the
like. This is a good thing because one substance that is composed of a liquid and a mix of alkanes and
cycloalkanes (5 12 carbon atoms) is that versatile. Some other advantages of gasoline are that it is
very common, making it easily accessible and more convenient for shorter periods of time. It starts up
immediately, improves the mobility of smaller generating sets, relatively lighter and quieter in
comparison to diesel generating sets and engines, they also have a longer lifespan. However, nothing
is perfect and gasoline does have its flaws.
A few of the downfalls to gasoline include a very short shelf life (up ... Show more content on

There are many way fuel can cause environmental harm this can come in many forms, but one is that
the use of gasoline is affecting air quality by producing emissions. This is because the process of
refining the crude oil releases toxins into the atmosphere and thus causing air pollution. Burning
gasoline, starting your car and driving it creates a small controlled fire, causes the combustion reaction
to occur, producing water vapor and the infamous Carbon Dioxide which is awful for the environment
and people breathing it in. This is due to gasoline (which is cleaner than coal) it still contributes to the
production of greenhouse gases. Another thing about gasoline that causes harm to the environment is
oil spills that occur mostly when oil is lost during transportation.
There are four main things that stem off of fuel emissions, these are carbon monoxide, nitrogen
oxides, particulate matter and unburned hydrocarbons. These are formed by the fuel being burned and
released through the combustion reaction. The main components of gasoline that combust in gasoline
are isooctane, butane, 3 ethyltoluene and an octane enhancer called MTBE (methyl tert butyl ether).

The Polish s New Prosperity
Civilizations are constructed and inhabited by people. No matter where they come from, the color of
their skin or the language they speak they have the right to coexist. Immigrants from all around the
world have come to one great nation to live the dream. America was founded by immigrants which
today are now naturalized citizens by birth and that have several generations of families. The
American population will always continue to grow not with the naturalized births but with the arrival
of immigrants. Immigrant communities in the first half of the twentieth century were marked by
increasing prosperity as well as by cultural change. Despite the hardships of industrial life, workers of
all ethnic groups were able to achieve a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new culture of the Polish was a combination of the new (America) and of the old (back in Poland)
that became from the industrial and urban communities. Immigrants all alike had poor living
conditions, working conditions and received little pay for the demanding jobs that they performed.
The factory owners/manager s bottom line was how much money will they make and how little to pay
the workers. Not only did the immigrants get paid a small wage, they worked in horrible conditions
that would eventually take a toll on their health and finally their lives. They would also work 12 14
hour days with typically one day off between. Studies have shown that various governmental,
regional, and demographic factors are also associated with voting turnout. I employ these variables (1)
to guard against spurious correlations between the size of immigrant populations and turnout, and (2)
as indicators of structural potentialities in urban political systems. (Gordon, 1970) The laws that
regulate the registration of the immigrants are not easier in the large populations of the cities. This was
due to the difficulty of how spread out the communities was. However, there were some states that did
pass literacy tests to determine the literacy level of the communities and immigrants. This changed the
turnout of the level of the immigrants due to the increasing size of the

102 Year Old Time Capsule Research Paper
On July 1st, 2017 workers in St.Louis were taking down a monument and while doing that they
discovered a 102 year old time capsule. I think it would be hard to figure out what to put in a time
capsule in the year 1915, but it did give a looking glass to the year 2017 about what was used before
all the technology and new gadgets. For me, fashion, FADS, and technology would best describe what
life was like in the 2000 s. To best describe what our generation was like fashion, technology, and
FADS should be placed in a time capsule. For example, one of the fashion trends in 2016 mostly
names brands. Like a brand named Supreme . Once famous YouTubers started to wear this clothing
brand, most teenagers have been wanting to get a headband or a shirt. Next, is of course Vineyard
Vines , this brand was worn by many because of their signature smiley whale with different prints and
designs.Lastly, is the name brand Lokai mostly girls were obsessed with the fact that the bracelet

facilitating a panoramic view of patient care, values of the National Health Service and enhancing a
holistic approach. The use of a fictitious patient allows for maintenance of confidentiality in line with
professional s standards (College of Operating Department Practitioners, 2009). For clarity and to
enhance structure the fictitious patient shall be referred to as Mrs Bird. Mrs Bird is a 35 year old
female, a mum of twin boys who are seven years of age. She is a primary school teacher by profession
and has been experiencing menstrual cramping and heavy menstrual bleeding. She is currently taking

The first abdominal hysterectomy was first performed by Charles Clay in Manchester in 1843 even
though the initial procedure was to remove an ovarian tumour, the patient coughed and extruded a
huge uterine fibroid through the incision. He had no choice but to perform a subtotal hysterectomy,
unfortunately the patient died a few hours later. Surprisingly in the same year another surgeon Heath
had the same situation happen to him and the patient died from post operative blood loss. The
following year Charles Clay attempted another hysterectomy procedure and almost succeeded, but the
patient died post operatively after fifteen days having fallen out of bed. Nevertheless, Ellis Burnham
from Lowell, Massachusetts successfully achieved the first abdominal hysterectomy, but diagnosis
was wrong, he thought he was removing an ovarian cyst. However, Kimball who was also from
Massachusetts carried out the first hysterectomy for a fibroid tumour with the patient surviving the
operation. The most common reason for performing hysterectomy is to cure uterine fibroids, but
however, The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) stated that total abdominal
hysterectomy should be considered as a last option for fibroids and that woman should be told about
other treatments which are less drastic surgical procedures. Mrs Bird is health and fit with no other
presenting issues besides her current problem. It is important for Mrs Bird to understand the changes
her body will go through after the operation. Her medical history indicates that she has normal and
stable physiological status, a chest x ray was performed to examine any abnormalities in her lungs,
electrocardiograms was performed to access her heart before the operation. The

Persuasive Essay On Teenage Drinking
Kids are always disobeying the law. Kids share medications, they all pee outside, they steal from each
other and steal toys or candy from the store, smoke with their friends, or once they hit 15 or 16, some
drive without a license. One of the biggest laws that is broke the most though, is underage drinking.
11% of alcohol is drank by underage people. If kids were able to drink at the age of 16 with parental
consent, it would be better. Most parents let their kids drink with them around anyway. If the parents
feel like their kids are responsible then they should be able to drink without disobeying the law. Kids
should be able to drink at age 16 through 21 as long as they have a parents consent, and the parent is
present.
Parents sometimes let their kids have a sip or even a drink when they re drinking. They trust their kids,
and the parents know that they are there to take care of them. They know nothing stupid will happen
and if it does, they can stop it. They are there to stop it, and can quickly interfere if need to. The kids
are safe and won t harm anyone. If something does happen, it should be the parents fault, for they
were supposed to be watching the kids. The parents should be present and should only allow drinking
at home. Other kids can t be drinking unless their parents are ok with it and have proof that they are
able to. If their kid is having a birthday party and wanted to drink, then the other parents should be
present, until the drinking is over with. Then the parents can leave and the kids can continue without
any alcohol. It s a way to show the kids that they don t need alcohol to have fun.
Its an effective way to teach the kids on how to drink responsibly. The parents show the kids how to
control it and how much they should drink. They teach them not to drink all the time and not to be
reckless with it. It shows that kids won t go against their parents. If the parents show them on how to
drink, the kids will be more responsible and will know what their limit is. They know how to behave
and won t drive while drinking. Responsibility will go a long way if parents showed their kids on how
to drink correctly.
Some kids still drink recklessly, they act out, and don t listen. These kids drink,

Investing Inside A Qualified Retirement Plan
There was a time not so long ago that investing was simple Stocks, bonds and mutual funds, notes,
and annuities that was it. Today, investors enjoy access to the same types as investments as in times
past with Real estate, Real Estate Investment Trust s (REIT s), Derivatives, Hedge funds, Currencies
and so many more thrown into the mix. Here we will consider Real estate investing, the different types
of real estate to consider and why one serves the investor over another as it relates to investing inside a
qualified retirement plan. Unlike so many other investments, real estate is unique because it can be
leveraged. Banks will lend upwards to 60% percent of the properties value with non recourse funds
inside retirement plans. Only plans that have a certain income through annual contributions or large
cash flows from wholly owned properties should leverage, especially on commercial or industrial
assets. Generally, there are 3 types of investments: Land, Commercial/Industrial and Residential. Land
is a complex investment that requires a certain level of expertise, which many investors do not
possess, but can provide explosive returns. Investing in land can require years of negative cash flows
before any appreciable gain is realized. As land is considered, two important rules of land investing
comes to mind: 1) The profit made in virtually any land deal is made the day of purchase, which is to
say always buy lower than market; 2) For everyday a land asset is held in

Lyme Disease In The 1970 s
Lyme disease was discovered in the 1970 s, as any other disease was, by a large number of cases, with
patients having the same symptoms. In Lyme, Connecticut, a doctor was having patients who were all
suffering from the same symptoms that made patients become debilitated. There were so many cases
that the doctor marked it as an unknown disease. It wasn t until later in the 1980 s that there were
more widespread cases throughout the north east. Lyme disease is becoming a serious problem in the
north east and especially in New York State, given the drastic increase of cases. Without treatment
Lyme disease can result in blindness and in severe cases, death. In the 1970 s, doctors were receiving
patients who were having odd symptoms. The symptoms were swollen knees, paralysis, skin rashes,
headaches, and severe chronic fatigue ( History of Lyme Disease ). In the 1980 s a doctor named Willy

Lyme disease to ticks, rodents are the main threat. Ostfeld s research indicates that white footed mice

Generally, they are the size of poppy seeds. Adult ticks are greater during March to mid May and mid

The significant growth of Factory Farms has contributed to the issues of the environment, public

CAFOs which stand for Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations. Animals on factory farms can
produce millions of tons of manure annually, which pollutes water sources and the air. Local markets
can feel these impacts also by health conditions from the food or from the excessive antibiotics given

A GMO is when a gene from the DNA of one organism is put into the DNA of another
Organism.GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organisms. Cows, Chickens, Pigs, and even Plants
can have their DNA changed. Scientists developed this gene changing method which is a main cause
of animal suffering. Factory Farms nearly 100% of the animals are given GMO s to make them grow
bigger. Banned in 27 countries (not the U.S.), recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone is injected into
cows to produce more milk. This alteration of the GMO is made by mixing cow DNA and E. Coli
(seriously). These cause infections on the cow making the body produce more milk as the cow is
suffering. Cows are suffering just to give us more milk and yet we have not banned this injection.
Also, GMO usage can lead to the inability to walk or even stand up in their cages. The animals on
factory farms are fed growth hormones which give them a disability to stand up. When the animals
grow bigger then they are supposed to, their bones cannot hold the weight which forces them to lay
down and the bones sometimes snap. GMO s given to our food is bad for our health, yet people still
eat it. Experts like Sheldon Krimsky, PhD, an adjunct professor of public health and community
medicine at Tufts Medical School in Boston says nearly two dozen studies show bad effects, like harm
to the kidneys, liver, heart, and other organs. (http://www.webmd.com/food recipes/truth about gmos?
page=2). Over 80% of our food (all foods) are injected with GMO s. In the US, food companies aren t
allowed to label if the ingredients have GMOs in them. Therefore, we cannot tell which foods contain
these health risks. But, there is a project called the Non GMO Project which labeled foods that they
found did not contain GMO. They have not covered all foods but they are working their way there.
GMO s are not only bad for our

The Importance Of Creon In Shakespeare By Sophocles ...
In Antigone, it is generally believed that the gods possess limitless power and are able to control the
fate of every mortal, no matter how powerful. However, there are also people who believe that they
can change their fate, only if they have enough power. Creon, the most powerful mortal in the play, is
one of those people. Due to the unmatched amount of power he has over Thebes, Creon feels he is
able to challenge the gods and the fate given to him. After attempting to do so, he finds himself stuck
with a tragic fate, resulting in the loss of everything dear to him, including his power. Sophocles uses
Creon as a way to show that everyone has a physical limit, but not a mental limit. When our thoughts
and beliefs cause us to act beyond that physical limit, fate will always be there to provide the
acceptable consequences.
The play introduces Creon as a character whose power enables him to do as he pleases. After
becoming the king of Thebes, he immediately recognizes his power. Shortly after being introduced
into the play, Creon passes a proclamation stating, Never at my hand will the traitor be honored above
the patriot. (Lines 232 233). Due to his personal beliefs towards the sons of Oedipus, Creon passes a
law forbidding the burial of Polynices, the brother who fought against Thebes during war. In no
attempt to object, the Leader responds saying, The power is yours, I suppose, to enforce it with the
laws, both for the dead and all of us, the living. (Lines 238 240).

Sartre
As stated by Sartre, man has the choice to make all of their decisions freely, but are still condemned to
be free, because we were thrust upon this earth without any choice and forced to exist. Since everyone
was placed on this earth without our choosing, we still have to choose and act freely from any type of
situation we may end up in. Because of that, every choice we make and the resulting circumstance that
may come with it is the result of us being free and having those choices to make. The choice to have a
choice is really the only thing we cannot choose. In his book, Sartre says, Not only are we condemned
to be free because we did not choose to exist, but we are also condemned to be free because we are the
only thing that exists that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are no sets of ethics, morals, or eternal values that we can base our entire lives on. The phrases,
I can t or, I must in regards to doing anything since we have the ultimate choice in anything and
nothing is ever truly forced upon us. Sartre believes that we should never put the blame for anything
that we do on anyone else but ourselves. Even though we may believe that the consequence of our
action could be blamed on someone other than us, it always ends up being up to us, whether we want
it to or not. This specific view that Sartre has on the responsibility of our actions being on ourselves
conflicts with the Catholic philosophy. Sartre says that our reasons for picking one action over another
being what God wanted for us or that it was in someone s nature to do so are false. To him, it is our
responsibility. As we live our lives and go through the experiences that we do, we must create our own
meaning. To him, that is the meaning of existence. We are the ones who are held responsible for our
destiny and how we live our lives and shape ourselves is all derived from what we make of ourselves.
On a bit of a different note, Sartre does believe that this freedom of choice that we have can be seen as
somewhat of a curse. This curse is prevalent when dissecting Sartre s phrase, condemned to be

Ethical Issues In Medical Experiments
While designing research and searching for subjects, medical workers and researchers have faced and
still face profound ethical challenges. They have found that interests of knowledge and science do not
always follow the same road as the interests of their subjects health (Mills and Morris 66). Obtaining
full informed consent, balancing risks and benefits, maximizing subject autonomy, and developing
results into treatment is complex and difficult. The government, review committees and researchers
have also had tense interactions as oversight and transparency come up. Most researchers have ended
up experimenting on groups of people who are similar in backgrounds: the majority being low

Prison, believes scientists should not be allowed to conduct any medical research in prisons. He points
out that main problems included lack of informed consent and skewed risks and benefits (McGinn
138). Saliquu says he has lost his trust in medical officials, who despite good intentions and a proper
start may end up doing bad in an environment that is too risky and corrupt (McGinn 139). However,
other people want the right to participate in research. In 1973, people from a county prison in

The Security Has Become A Hot Button Issue
National security has become a hot button issue here in the United States. Rather than representing
other nations, opposing forces represent different ideologies. Enemy personnel may appear as anyone
or come from anywhere, even from the United States. These enemies have a potential to acquire
dangerous weapons and cause detrimental amounts of damage to our nation. To save the country from
these extreme life threatening circumstances, where there is clear and specific evidence, torture is
ought to be reasonable so as to spare innocent lives. Most people in a civilized nation disagree with
torture. However, in compelling and threatening circumstances it may be allowed. Here is the reason,
Many terrorist organizations take advantage of the situation and make an entryway for an assault.
Without the usage of torture, it would take extra time and open doors for another strike later on.
Through the use of torture, the CIA gained useful data by interrogating two terrorist group leaders,
Khalid Sheik Mohammed and Abu Zubaydah, both of them gave significant data, after agents used
torture. (Gordon n.p.) Zubaydah showed the way to Khalid Mohammed, who was found to be the
mastermind behind 9 11 attacks. (Gordon n.p.) The usage of torture helped gain useful information
about terrorist organizations accountable for the assaults and it opened a way to stop possible assaults
driven by Al Qaida later on. (In Debate n.p.) Present and former U.S. authorities have claimed they

I am outraged! Today the inspector brought in this strange box which somehow displayed a moving
picture. The entirety of Waknuk protested against this foreign object, as it is surely the work of the
devil, but he insisted that it was sent from the government in Rigo. Finally, after everyone settled

horrible world which appeared to be ruled by mutants, big grotesque mutants with massive noses
upturned like a pigs and drooping skin hanging miles below their eye sockets. There is also a large
bone jutting out above their eyes in place of eyebrows and an outrageous flap of skin where the upper

majority of it, the Emergent approach; such as (Kanter Et Al s 1992 Long March) which focuses on
both the collaborative and political ideas of change that are more appropriate then current states. The
Essex Fire And Rescue Review (2015) support the idea of change in culture that may not be
appropriate any longer in that environment. An independent review of claims of intimidation at a fire
service has found evidence of dangerous and pervasive bullying . The cultural review was
commissioned by Essex Fire Authority last year after bullying was reported and two serving fire
fighters took their own lives (Guardian 2015). This idea is supported by the (Independent Cultural
Review Of County Essex Fire and Rescue Service 2015) who claim If culture is to change then senior
leadership is absolutely critical, in terms of both modelling behaviour and giving permissions to
subordinate staff to innovate and appropriately challenge poor performance including that of
management. Taking an emergent approach to change management really highlights the ways in

National Football Game Analysis
The modern National Football League, more commonly known as the NFL, has been around since
1924. It consists of thirty two teams, spread out in eight divisions inside two conferences, the AFC and
the NFC. The season is relatively short, with only sixteen regular season games. Only twelve teams
make the playoffs, with four receiving a first round bye. The third round, the AFC and NFC
Championships, determine who will play in the Superbowl for a chance at a winning title and glory.
The games are single elimination, and thus if a team hopes to win the Vince Lombardi trophy at the
Superbowl, it is imperative they win every game after the regular season finishes. On January 18th,
2015, the New England Patriots faced off against the visiting Indianapolis ... Show more content on

Even though DeflateGate was still a key issue in the league, Brady was still out for the first four
games of the year, forcing the Patriots to use rookie quarterbacks (Bedard 66). Jimmy Garoppolo, a
second round pick in the 2014 draft, was expected to start the first four games, putting massive
pressure on him and the Patriots defensive line to increase their performances (Bedard 66). Bedard
writes that under Brady, the Patriots defense and offence both finished in the top ten among all NFL
teams in 2015, setting the bar very high for their backup quarterbacks. All these disadvantages given
to the Patriots brought Goodell s reputation into question, and even though Goodell got to punish
Brady, he may have caused his image harm by continuing to fight for his punishment to be accepted. A
federal judge, when Brady presented his formal legal appeal, concluded that Goodell s punishment
was outside his power, seeing as The NFL had a punishment for tampering with game equipment, and
it wasn t a particularly large one: a fine of $25,000. Instead, Goodell ended up fining the Patriots $1
million, taking two draft picks. And then on top of that, he suspended Brady, even though the NFL s
manual prescribes a team punishment rather than a player punishment (Sherman). The judge decides,

Mongol Battle Tactics
The Mongols were a ruthless group of nomads who spent their time spreading fear into the people of
Asia and Europe during the post classical age, around 1200 1400 C.E. The conquered the largest land
empire of all time prior to themselves and possessed one the most devastating armies ever to set foot
on the Earth. They spent their time under their most well known leader, Genghis Khan, attacking and
expanding their massive empire that many are familiar with today. The Mongols, throughout their
relatively short two hundred years in power, built an astronomically large empire, in this short amount
of time due to their intellect, strategy, and technology as well as the brute force of their army. To start,
the Mongols massive army was successful in capturing many lands due to their extremely well
thought out strategies and plans to take on their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This allows the Mongols to gain leverage and possibly, if done well enough, gave the Mongols the
attack they needed to secure victory against the opposing forces. The total aspects of these Mongol
battle tactics stemmed from brute force and psychological warfare. By having these tools the Mongols
spent their time before invasion spying on their enemies, thus finding the best way to defeat them. The
purpose of this article was to explain to other Mongols, as passed through oral tradition, of their battle
tactics, to either be used again, or even to encourage the people of the empire that they were the
greatest. This shows the Mongols supreme ability to outwit their opponents and with that, defeat many
people, with great speed, better than anyone prior to them throughout the like of Classical China,
Ancient Greece and Rome, and the Byzantine Empire, whom, all in their own works, successfully
took over their surrounding lands with immense power as well, but nothing compared to that of the
Mongols. Document three shows an article from Marco Polo

Safety And Gas Field Operations Facility And Review Work...
If I were to walk in to a randomly selected oil and gas field operations facility and review work
interactions and procedures for 15 minutes, would I be able to adequately address the safety culture
within the building? To add more information, let s say I was required to sign in and was given a quick
evacuation briefing. Further, all employees were wearing appropriate PPE and Safety First signs were
prominently hung on the walls for all to see. With the given, after 15 minutes of work observation,
would I then be able to adequately make an observation? To bring this situational scenario to a close,
let s say the facility in question was my own Oklahoma City facility. The answer regarding an
adequate evaluation is I would only be observing the safety climate at that given time, not the overall
safety culture.
Safety culture has taken on many varieties of definitions since the term first appeared in 1986 but a
version I particularly identify with is as follows: A set of values, perceptions, attitudes and patterns of
behavior with regard to safety shared by members of the organization; as well as a set of policies,
practices and procedures relating to the reduction of employee s exposure to occupational risks,
implemented at every level of the organization, and reflecting a high level of concern and commitment
to the prevention of accidents and illnesses. (Fernandez Muniz et al., 2007, p. 628)
As noted above in the facility observation scenario, it was the safety climate

The Importance Of Teaching Humanities And Arts
Teaching Children the Arts and Humanities
Jenry Martin
PHI103: Informal Logic
Instructor: Stephen Krogh
March 7, 2016
Ashford University
My research is about the importance of teaching humanities and arts to kids. Humanities and art can
provide understanding to children opening their minds and after my research, I can say I am in favor
that children learn in early ages humanities and art. In this paper, I will provide both examples why
kids should study them and why not. I will explain how do humanities and art help them to develop
their intelligence and how could not be so beneficially for them as well. Even though some people say
that art classes are a drain on the economy and art educations are considered a distraction and that art
classes do not give children more development in their grades, my research will talk about the
importance of teaching humanities and arts to kids.
I will show first the good part of teaching at and humanities to kids:
Premise 1: Humanities class gives kids sense about where they come from.
Premise 2: Humanities helps kid to develop skills they need to grow up.
Premise 3: Art relaxes your mind.
Premise 4: Art helps kids to express their emotions.
Conclusion: therefore children should be taught humanities I found that my argument is intended to be
deductive, and, later on, I will put a counterargument to explain it: My first premise shows that
humanities help the kids to learn history. Help them to understand about

Distraction In The Brave New World
Distraction is a useful and powerful tool that has been used throughout all of history. People have used
distraction to cover up scandals, when battles/wars and to hide the truth. For example in today s world
one could argue how North Korea distracts the rest of the world by making war threats so people can t
focus on their actual problems going on in there country. But imagine if a form of society distracted
you from living a healthy natural and real life. In The Brave new world The World State is able to
distract its citizens from the fact that they are living fake and artificial lifes. In The Brave New World

on a drug? And the usage of is it totally acceptable? The World State supplies its citizens with a drug

is able to distract their citizens from normal emotions and stress by supplying doses of soma to its
public. That second dose of soma had raised a quite impenetrable wall between the actual universe and

in their life they can forget about it by dosing themselves with soma. This shows how the World State

State can distract the public from their natural emotions and stress. In the end she persuaded him to
swallow four tablets of soma. Five minutes later all roots and fruits were abolished; the present rosily

Similarities Between John Smith And William Bradford
Smith vs Bradford
Both John Smith and William Bradford journeyed to the New World during the time of America s
colonization in the early 1600s. These two men recorded their experiences during the voyage to share
with people back in their home country of England. While Smith and Bradford traveled to the same
place, their accounts were extremely dissimilar from each other. John Smith s General History of
Virginia, New England, and the Summer Isles describes America as an agriculture and livestock rich
area with endless opportunity. On the other hand, in Of Their Voyage, And How They Passed The Sea;
And Of Their Safe Arrival At Cape Cod, William Bradford stresses the hardship faced that extended
past the voyage and the painstaking work that goes into colonization. Although Smith and Bradford s
accounts have some similarities, the idea of the American dream is strengthened by Smith and

initially he talks about the great abundance of fruits and livestock available to show potential colonists

fertility and the convenience of nearby bodies of water is explained throughout the work. These are
important factors for a British society to have since, around this time, long distance trading became a

Steve Pollock Ecology Summary
Ecology is a non fiction text written by Steve Pollock, which centres around the subject on the natural
state of our earth. This book discusses and explores on the various topics of our ecosystem, what it is
and the different aspects in our ecosystem such as: population, trophic level, predation, Eco life,
relationships between the living organisms, and human impact of the environment The book first
introduces the subject of ecology, and gives a brief overview on what it consists of. According the
definition offered by the text ecology is the study of living thing in their natural state. The book also
explains what the ecosystem is, and what is included in it. An ecosystem contains living and non
living organisms which feed, reproduce, and interact in the same environment. An ecosystem is made
up of various communities which are formed when different populations of different species co exist
in the same area. Many of the relationships in nature can be either categorized as mutalistic or
commensalistic. The writing illustrates that a mutualistic relationship is when both animals benefit
from the interaction with one another. The clown fish and the sea anemone are a great example if
mutalistic symbiosis relationship. The sea anemone protects the clown fish from predators by using it
s tentacles, while the sea clown fish provides the sea anemone scrapes of food that has fallen from it s
self. A commesnalistic is when one animal has the upper hand or benefits from the interaction. ...

You Can Use Meditation To Deepen Your Spirituality Essay
You can use meditation to deepen your spirituality. Very many practice it to have better health, both
physical and mental. But you can use it also to deepen your spirituality.
Deepening Your Spirituality
The origins of meditation have been mostly religious, especially religion as practiced in the
monasteries. Monks and nuns, both in Christian and non Christian groups, like Buddhism, are still the
ones who professedly practice meditation on a daily basis for long periods of time, even hours. Some
who have practiced it have experienced the beneficial effects this practice has brought to them and so
have encouraged to use this exercise to improve their physical and mental health.
But you can use meditation to also deepen your spirituality. By deepening your spirituality I mean that
you will have a broader grasp of spiritual realities. You may come to realize that it is not only human
persons who have a spiritual side to their nature but even the animals and plants have also a spiritual

Descriptive Essay About Times Square
When you mention New York to anyone, they automatically think about Times Square. This beautiful
place with skyscrapers, Central Park, and a unique transportation system. However, if you were to ask
me what I think about New York; I believe the skyscrapers block the sun, Central park is just a regular
park for dogs, and the subway trains rarely run consistently especially in the mornings. I have lived in
New York for 18 years, and I have yet to understand what everyone likes about the Big Red Apple.
Growing up as a resident of New York, one is taught that there s an opportunity in every corner, but
that s not exactly what I see. I have gone to all the tourist sights, and have yet to find it as fascinating
as other states such as: California, Florida, Virginia, Boston or even Washington D.C.. Times Square
was beautiful in the beginning, but then you get harassed by every person with a costume on, or even
if you take a picture with Elmo they charge you five dollars. Everything is also overpriced, no one
should be paying a hundred dollars to ride on a horse, or paying three dollars per minute on a bicycle
ride. Many neighborhoods have changed, if you go down to Brooklyn it is now hipster, and isn t the
way it was before which was considered the ghetto. Everyone is paying for an experience that can be
found in any state and at any time. Also, the traffic that goes on in the trains and on the streets is
insane. Whether you take the Long Island expressway, the Clearview expressway or any other
expressway you are going to find traffic.
New york is probably known as one of the most rat infested city. There are many programs that try to
end the rat dilemma, but the rat population is so large that it s hard to control. Not only are rats found
on the train, they are also found in neighborhoods such as the Bronx. Many people complain about the
rat situation to the city, but the homeowners take no action when it s time to clean up their own mess
(Bragdon et al., 2007 2009). Many of the rats that are seen all over the city are huge, and go crawling
around for any food that they can find, mainly in trash cans. Whitestone, Queens is the neighborhood
that I grew up in. Whitestone is a small community, predominantly

Inspector Dupin s The Murders In The Rue Morgue
Mystery novels have been an intriguing subject to a lot of readers. A famous mystery novel writer,
Edgar Allan Poe, had explained meaningful life lessons within his words, in his story, The Murders in
the Rue Morgue. His story contains a strenuous case to investigate and the character, Inspector Dupin,
is the only key to figuring it out. The outcome of the turning point had an immense influence to
several things in the story. The discovery of the broken nail is significant because of its effects on how
the killer got in and out, how carefully Dupin analyzed his clues, and proving even the smallest clues
have a big impact. The damaged nail has been a significant piece of evidence to finding out who the
killer is and how they could ve escaped. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dupin takes his detective work earnestly and it gives him a deep pride as he unravels each clue,
connecting pieces of the puzzle. Dupin says, Upon this point I had been satisfied in my walk with you
around the building... My ultimate object is only the truth. My immediate purpose is to lead you to
place in juxta position (Poe 3 4). Dupin inspects every inch of the room and building until he is
satisfied; showing that he knows it takes full carefulness and alertness to find a clue. As Dupin
continues, he explains his logical inferences with great honesty, considering that lying is not a usage
of reason (Poe 4) for him. He also states, You will say that I was puzzled; but, if you think so, you
must have misunderstood the nature of the inductions. To use a sporting phrase, I had not been once at
fault . (Poe 3). Dupin knows what he is doing, by telling us he is certain the window was the killer s
way out. This shows his determination on what he believes and thinks. His actions or how he works
has been a substantial influence on finding out who the killer is and arose an imperative life

The History of Darwin’s Theory of Evolution
Nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution.
(Dobzhanski, 1973)
It was during his journey on board the Beagle that Darwin developed his theory of evolution. On the
Origin of Species (Darwin, 1859) proposed two main principles: evolution really occurs and natural
selection is its mechanism. This work published on 24th November 1859 traces a coherent portrait of
life bringing together in an orderly manner an astonishing variety of apparently independent facts. It
led biologists to concentrate on the diversity of organisms, their origins and their relation, their
similarities and their differences, their geographical distribution and their adaptation to various
environments.
Darwin (1859) arrived at two main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The need for food fashions the animal model.
All which seem to have been gradually produced during many generations by the perpetual endeavour
of the creatures to supply the want of food and to have been delivered to their posterity with constant
improvement of them for the purposes required (Darwin, 1794 1796: section 39, Of generations ).
Finally the need for safety intervenes specifically in the specific shaping of the legs which enables
animals to be more adapted to flee.
However, this large visionary misses the mechanism which would make it possible to explain these
adaptations.
Jean Baptiste Lamarck
Jean Baptiste Lamarck presented his theory on the transformation of species for the first time in 1800
in his Discours d Ouverture de l an VIII . He proposed:
The animals most imperfect, simply organized, those suspected in a world hardly endowed with
animality, are perhaps those by which nature began when, with a lot of time and favourable
circumstances, it has wrought all the other (Lamarck, 1801: 12).
For Lamarck, it was habits and environmental factors which influenced the evolution of the
morphology of animals. With new shapes, new abilities are gained, and over time nature arrives to
where it is now.
Charles Darwin
In 1831, Charles Darwin participated in a five year expedition on board the Beagle. Despite very little
experience, he was offered the position of naturalist. During his travels, he studied a

The Monetary System Of Nepal
1.1.3 Monetary Perspective The monetary system of Nepal shows the dualistic nature of monetary
economy. The urban is merged in organized industries, trade and service sector. The rural economy,
where the majority of people at subsistence level without any surplus of exchange, does not show any
improvement in the process of monetization. When we look historically in the monetary system of
Nepalese economy, it seems the two commercial banks viz. Nepal Bank Ltd. (1936) and the Rastriya
Banijya Bank (1965) played an important role in the Nepalese money market. Though those two
banks were different in origin, they are now operating under the same rule and regulation of
Commercial Bank Act 1974(Sharma, 1987:53). The Nepal Rastra Bank as a central bank of country
took entirely a decade since its establishment in 1956, to consolidate its power as banker s bank and to
regulate operations of banking. By the same token, the Nepal Industrial Development Corporation
(NIDC) was set up in 1959 with the objective of providing financial outgoing of new industries in
country. The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) was also established in 1968 with a view of
financing in agricultural sector. Gaudel (2000) has presented some propositions regarding monetary
perspective of Nepalese economy which are as follows:
The monetary structure of the Nepalese economy is dualistic in nature. It implies that the banking and
financial intermediaries have no significant influence on

Edgar Allan Poe
Introduction
In this project, I will be discussing about my poet Edgar Allan Poe. Poe had written numerous of
poems and stories but the one I chose was Annabel Lee . This poem was written in 1849 which was a
long time ago. Even though this poem is centuries old, it is still a well known poem. This whole
project includes a biography, literary movement, and a explication about the poem.
The biography includes where Poe grew up and how his lifestyle were. Through research and sources,
I found out that Poe lived a hard life. He was in a lot of debts with no money. Not only was that,
Annabel Lee known as a romanticism which was also established during the European times. This
poem was one of my favorite.
The explication was an opinion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poe was unconscious for several days and died in the hospital on Sunday, October 7, 1849. His death
was mysterious and there were many urban stories to his death.
Literary Movement
Edgar Allan Poe wrote Annabel Lee in the year of 1849 (Cynthia A. Bily). After his wife died, he had
published this poem. The era that this poem was written was during the nineteenth century, European
literature. Poe s poems and stories were greatly influenced to French Symbolism who then alter to new
modernism. ( Edgar Allan Poe Poetry Foundation). Annabel Lee was the love of his life, his wife. Due
to this poem, he expresses many and also deep feelings towards his wife. You could tell that he was
heartbroken and longing for the love of his life.
Poe s poem Annabel Lee falls under Romanticism. Romanticism was well known by its origin and
influence. By the 1820, it traveled through Europe and towards the west hemisphere where musical
introduced it. After these years, Romanticism was well known and also used in many ways. As of
today, it is still popular ( Romanticism Paul Brians). Romantic is also a part of nature and its power.
Romanticism is beauty and its art that is widespread among everything.
As for the criticism for this poem, overall was very positive. Most people who read had read this poem
had greatly liked it. Soni00sh, the publisher of its criticism, said that Poe, maybe, wanted to make a
point that there is such a thing as true, undying love. This meant that

The And Political Disagreements Of Texas
Dominique Hollie
Professor Bitzenhofer

Assignment 1
Texas, through hardship war and political disagreements, was finally established as a state in 1845; but
the question after finally acquiring statehood was to be how would the judges be selected. Ever since
1876, it has been an issue on whether judicial selection, the appointment or election of state judges,
are even beneficial. Judges are selected through partisan elections or nonpartisan elections through
which these elections are determined by financial funds, credibility, and political or non political party
views.
The election of judges can initially affect the way justice in Texas is seen by not balancing the true
equality of the justice system. Choosing the incorrect person for a high power position, such as
someone determined to play God like Adolf Hitler, can and will affect the community tremendously.
Experts from the Center for American Progress say ...judges are expected to be true to the law, not to
political parties or campaign contributors. (Corriher, Web) Other ways it affects Texas is through the
jurist s quality of votes, especially through partisan elections. They may be able to see who they are
voting for, but only base votes on what appeals to them. The Center for American progress addresses
this by commenting how, ...voters tend to vote for the judicial candidates from the party with which
they are affiliated. (Corriher, Web) Elections can take a toll on Texas

  • 2. Similarities Between Martin Luther And Star Wood Martin Luther, essentially a nobody with credentials, grew to become one of the most influential persons in the 16th century. Though his message was fought off by the Catholic church, with the help of the printing press and his followers, Luther s message was able to spread throughout Europe. Similarly, taking a look at the message of may your brief candle shine brightly from Once Upon a Timepiece by Starr Wood, both messages of history traveled through time due to the unforeseen circumstances one calls history. By examining the choices each individual made, it is clear to see how greed and circumstance play a deep role in both Andrew Pettegree s Brand Luther and Starr Wood s Once Upon a Timepiece. Brand Luther, the detailed story of how Martin Luther, a former monk, became the backbone of a religious reformation starts off in Wittenberg: the home of maybe two thousand at the time of Luther s arrival. Wittenberg would become known as the starting place of the reformation, but prior to Luther s writings was a poor, unattractive town, with old, small, ugly wooden houses, more like a village than a town (Pettegree 7). Yet ironically, with the help of Martin, Wittenberg would thrive economically due to the printing press s success in sending and selling his every last written word all over Europe. Though the printing press was only first established in Wittenberg in 1502, Wittenberg would become the printing capitol of the world by 1543 (Pettegree 11). Pettegree s book ... • 3. Fertility Control Fertility control is the key to the development of less developed countries like those of the Caribbean . Critically assess the above statement in relation to any two named countries. To begin, firstly fertility or fertility rate must first be understood. Fertility rate is the actual level of childbearing of an individual or population. (Oxford Dictionary of Sociology, pg. 254). Fertility control is seen as a method which ensures development by limiting the quantity of natural, financial and other resources to be spent on the economically inactive. (Sociology for Caribbean Studies, pg. 321). Demographers believe the concept that in each country there is an optimum population in which there are sufficient resources in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This overpopulation, lack of education and sufficient resources can be seen to have caused the lack of development in Haiti. The government of Haiti has not come up with an operational family planning program to control growing population numbers. Thus initiative needs to be taken in regards to their health program in order to decrease their total fertility rate. In Jamaica, their fertility rate has seen a substantial drop as a result of the part played by the country s family planning agency, the National Family Planning Board (NFPB). The Acting Executive Director of the National Family Planning Board, Dr. Sharlene Jarrett, has said that in Jamaica in the early 1970 s we averaged 4.5 children born to women between ages 15 and 49 and we see where in 2008, it was 2.4 and this is just a little above the ideal replacement level. . This decrease is seen as a great achievement for Jamaica and is a major step in Jamaica developing in their economic and social infrastructure. The decrease in the amount of children born to a Jamaican woman and in total the overall children born within the country is an important stage for their development. • 4. Part 1 Gasoline Research Paper Part One: Gasoline 1. Gasoline is used in a wide array of appliances, for example, your car, tractors, and lawn mowers of the like. This is a good thing because one substance that is composed of a liquid and a mix of alkanes and cycloalkanes (5 12 carbon atoms) is that versatile. Some other advantages of gasoline are that it is very common, making it easily accessible and more convenient for shorter periods of time. It starts up immediately, improves the mobility of smaller generating sets, relatively lighter and quieter in comparison to diesel generating sets and engines, they also have a longer lifespan. However, nothing is perfect and gasoline does have its flaws. A few of the downfalls to gasoline include a very short shelf life (up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many way fuel can cause environmental harm this can come in many forms, but one is that the use of gasoline is affecting air quality by producing emissions. This is because the process of refining the crude oil releases toxins into the atmosphere and thus causing air pollution. Burning gasoline, starting your car and driving it creates a small controlled fire, causes the combustion reaction to occur, producing water vapor and the infamous Carbon Dioxide which is awful for the environment and people breathing it in. This is due to gasoline (which is cleaner than coal) it still contributes to the production of greenhouse gases. Another thing about gasoline that causes harm to the environment is oil spills that occur mostly when oil is lost during transportation. There are four main things that stem off of fuel emissions, these are carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, particulate matter and unburned hydrocarbons. These are formed by the fuel being burned and released through the combustion reaction. The main components of gasoline that combust in gasoline are isooctane, butane, 3 ethyltoluene and an octane enhancer called MTBE (methyl tert butyl ether). Part Two: Solar Energy ... No matter where they come from, the color of their skin or the language they speak they have the right to coexist. Immigrants from all around the world have come to one great nation to live the dream. America was founded by immigrants which today are now naturalized citizens by birth and that have several generations of families. The American population will always continue to grow not with the naturalized births but with the arrival of immigrants. Immigrant communities in the first half of the twentieth century were marked by increasing prosperity as well as by cultural change. The new culture of the Polish was a combination of the new (America) and of the old (back in Poland) that became from the industrial and urban communities. Immigrants all alike had poor living conditions, working conditions and received little pay for the demanding jobs that they performed. The factory owners/manager s bottom line was how much money will they make and how little to pay the workers. Not only did the immigrants get paid a small wage, they worked in horrible conditions that would eventually take a toll on their health and finally their lives. They would also work 12 14 hour days with typically one day off between. Studies have shown that various governmental, regional, and demographic factors are also associated with voting turnout. I employ these variables (1) to guard against spurious correlations between the size of immigrant populations and turnout, and (2) as indicators of structural potentialities in urban political systems. (Gordon, 1970) The laws that regulate the registration of the immigrants are not easier in the large populations of the cities. This was due to the difficulty of how spread out the communities was. However, there were some states that did pass literacy tests to determine the literacy level of the communities and immigrants. This changed the turnout of the level of the immigrants due to the increasing size of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I think it would be hard to figure out what to put in a time capsule in the year 1915, but it did give a looking glass to the year 2017 about what was used before all the technology and new gadgets. For me, fashion, FADS, and technology would best describe what life was like in the 2000 s. To best describe what our generation was like fashion, technology, and FADS should be placed in a time capsule. For example, one of the fashion trends in 2016 mostly names brands. Like a brand named Supreme . Once famous YouTubers started to wear this clothing brand, most teenagers have been wanting to get a headband or a shirt. The first abdominal hysterectomy was first performed by Charles Clay in Manchester in 1843 even though the initial procedure was to remove an ovarian tumour, the patient coughed and extruded a huge uterine fibroid through the incision. He had no choice but to perform a subtotal hysterectomy, unfortunately the patient died a few hours later. Surprisingly in the same year another surgeon Heath had the same situation happen to him and the patient died from post operative blood loss. The following year Charles Clay attempted another hysterectomy procedure and almost succeeded, but the patient died post operatively after fifteen days having fallen out of bed. Nevertheless, Ellis Burnham from Lowell, Massachusetts successfully achieved the first abdominal hysterectomy, but diagnosis was wrong, he thought he was removing an ovarian cyst. However, Kimball who was also from Massachusetts carried out the first hysterectomy for a fibroid tumour with the patient surviving the operation. The most common reason for performing hysterectomy is to cure uterine fibroids, but however, The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) stated that total abdominal hysterectomy should be considered as a last option for fibroids and that woman should be told about other treatments which are less drastic surgical procedures. Mrs Bird is health and fit with no other presenting issues besides her current problem. It is important for Mrs Bird to understand the changes her body will go through after the operation. • 8. Persuasive Essay On Teenage Drinking Kids are always disobeying the law. Kids share medications, they all pee outside, they steal from each other and steal toys or candy from the store, smoke with their friends, or once they hit 15 or 16, some drive without a license. One of the biggest laws that is broke the most though, is underage drinking. 11% of alcohol is drank by underage people. If kids were able to drink at the age of 16 with parental consent, it would be better. Most parents let their kids drink with them around anyway. If the parents feel like their kids are responsible then they should be able to drink without disobeying the law. Kids should be able to drink at age 16 through 21 as long as they have a parents consent, and the parent is present. Parents sometimes let their kids have a sip or even a drink when they re drinking. They trust their kids, and the parents know that they are there to take care of them. They know nothing stupid will happen and if it does, they can stop it. They are there to stop it, and can quickly interfere if need to. The kids are safe and won t harm anyone. If something does happen, it should be the parents fault, for they were supposed to be watching the kids. The parents should be present and should only allow drinking at home. Other kids can t be drinking unless their parents are ok with it and have proof that they are able to. If their kid is having a birthday party and wanted to drink, then the other parents should be present, until the drinking is over with. Then the parents can leave and the kids can continue without any alcohol. It s a way to show the kids that they don t need alcohol to have fun. Its an effective way to teach the kids on how to drink responsibly. The parents show the kids how to control it and how much they should drink. They teach them not to drink all the time and not to be reckless with it. It shows that kids won t go against their parents. If the parents show them on how to drink, the kids will be more responsible and will know what their limit is. They know how to behave and won t drive while drinking. Responsibility will go a long way if parents showed their kids on how to drink correctly. Some kids still drink recklessly, they act out, and don t listen. These kids drink, ... Today, investors enjoy access to the same types as investments as in times past with Real estate, Real Estate Investment Trust s (REIT s), Derivatives, Hedge funds, Currencies and so many more thrown into the mix. Here we will consider Real estate investing, the different types of real estate to consider and why one serves the investor over another as it relates to investing inside a qualified retirement plan. Unlike so many other investments, real estate is unique because it can be leveraged. Banks will lend upwards to 60% percent of the properties value with non recourse funds inside retirement plans. Only plans that have a certain income through annual contributions or large cash flows from wholly owned properties should leverage, especially on commercial or industrial assets. Generally, there are 3 types of investments: Land, Commercial/Industrial and Residential. Land is a complex investment that requires a certain level of expertise, which many investors do not possess, but can provide explosive returns. Investing in land can require years of negative cash flows before any appreciable gain is realized. As land is considered, two important rules of land investing comes to mind: 1) The profit made in virtually any land deal is made the day of purchase, which is to say always buy lower than market; 2) For everyday a land asset is held in ... Factory Farms nearly 100% of the animals are given GMO s to make them grow bigger. Banned in 27 countries (not the U.S.), recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone is injected into cows to produce more milk. This alteration of the GMO is made by mixing cow DNA and E. Coli (seriously). These cause infections on the cow making the body produce more milk as the cow is suffering. • 12. The Importance Of Creon In Shakespeare By Sophocles ... In Antigone, it is generally believed that the gods possess limitless power and are able to control the fate of every mortal, no matter how powerful. However, there are also people who believe that they can change their fate, only if they have enough power. Creon, the most powerful mortal in the play, is one of those people. Due to the unmatched amount of power he has over Thebes, Creon feels he is able to challenge the gods and the fate given to him. After attempting to do so, he finds himself stuck with a tragic fate, resulting in the loss of everything dear to him, including his power. Sophocles uses Creon as a way to show that everyone has a physical limit, but not a mental limit. When our thoughts and beliefs cause us to act beyond that physical limit, fate will always be there to provide the acceptable consequences. The play introduces Creon as a character whose power enables him to do as he pleases. After becoming the king of Thebes, he immediately recognizes his power. Shortly after being introduced into the play, Creon passes a proclamation stating, Never at my hand will the traitor be honored above the patriot. (Lines 232 233). Due to his personal beliefs towards the sons of Oedipus, Creon passes a law forbidding the burial of Polynices, the brother who fought against Thebes during war. In no attempt to object, the Leader responds saying, The power is yours, I suppose, to enforce it with the laws, both for the dead and all of us, the living. (Lines 238 240). ... • 13. Sartre As stated by Sartre, man has the choice to make all of their decisions freely, but are still condemned to be free, because we were thrust upon this earth without any choice and forced to exist. Since everyone was placed on this earth without our choosing, we still have to choose and act freely from any type of situation we may end up in. Because of that, every choice we make and the resulting circumstance that may come with it is the result of us being free and having those choices to make. The choice to have a choice is really the only thing we cannot choose. In his book, Sartre says, Not only are we condemned to be free because we did not choose to exist, but we are also condemned to be free because we are the only thing that exists that ... The phrases, I can t or, I must in regards to doing anything since we have the ultimate choice in anything and nothing is ever truly forced upon us. Sartre believes that we should never put the blame for anything that we do on anyone else but ourselves. Even though we may believe that the consequence of our action could be blamed on someone other than us, it always ends up being up to us, whether we want it to or not. This specific view that Sartre has on the responsibility of our actions being on ourselves conflicts with the Catholic philosophy. Sartre says that our reasons for picking one action over another being what God wanted for us or that it was in someone s nature to do so are false. To him, it is our responsibility. As we live our lives and go through the experiences that we do, we must create our own meaning. To him, that is the meaning of existence. We are the ones who are held responsible for our destiny and how we live our lives and shape ourselves is all derived from what we make of ourselves. On a bit of a different note, Sartre does believe that this freedom of choice that we have can be seen as somewhat of a curse. Rather than representing other nations, opposing forces represent different ideologies. Enemy personnel may appear as anyone or come from anywhere, even from the United States. These enemies have a potential to acquire dangerous weapons and cause detrimental amounts of damage to our nation. To save the country from these extreme life threatening circumstances, where there is clear and specific evidence, torture is ought to be reasonable so as to spare innocent lives. Most people in a civilized nation disagree with torture. However, in compelling and threatening circumstances it may be allowed. Here is the reason, Many terrorist organizations take advantage of the situation and make an entryway for an assault. Without the usage of torture, it would take extra time and open doors for another strike later on. Through the use of torture, the CIA gained useful data by interrogating two terrorist group leaders, Khalid Sheik Mohammed and Abu Zubaydah, both of them gave significant data, after agents used torture. • 18. Waknuk Essay I am outraged! Today the inspector brought in this strange box which somehow displayed a moving picture. The entirety of Waknuk protested against this foreign object, as it is surely the work of the devil, but he insisted that it was sent from the government in Rigo. Finally, after everyone settled down the inspector proceeded to show us something absolutely horrendous. The box showed a horrible world which appeared to be ruled by mutants, big grotesque mutants with massive noses upturned like a pigs and drooping skin hanging miles below their eye sockets. There is also a large bone jutting out above their eyes in place of eyebrows and an outrageous flap of skin where the upper lip should be. Everybody knows that man is the image of God and that the norm is the image of God. These mutants are obvious blasphemies that are accursed in the sight of God and man. Evil blasphemies that are a threat to our purity. As Nicholson s Repentances says Watch thou for the mutant . Quadrant One is associated with the situations in relation to the cultural environment surrounding the organisation in which may not be appropriate any longer. For change like this, it needs to be made on a wide scale, either for the complete organisation, or the majority of it, the Emergent approach; such as (Kanter Et Al s 1992 Long March) which focuses on both the collaborative and political ideas of change that are more appropriate then current states. The Essex Fire And Rescue Review (2015) support the idea of change in culture that may not be appropriate any longer in that environment. An independent review of claims of intimidation at a fire service has found evidence of dangerous and pervasive bullying . The cultural review was commissioned by Essex Fire Authority last year after bullying was reported and two serving fire fighters took their own lives (Guardian 2015). This idea is supported by the (Independent Cultural Review Of County Essex Fire and Rescue Service 2015) who claim If culture is to change then senior leadership is absolutely critical, in terms of both modelling behaviour and giving permissions to subordinate staff to innovate and appropriately challenge poor performance including that of management. • 20. National Football Game Analysis The modern National Football League, more commonly known as the NFL, has been around since 1924. It consists of thirty two teams, spread out in eight divisions inside two conferences, the AFC and the NFC. The season is relatively short, with only sixteen regular season games. Only twelve teams make the playoffs, with four receiving a first round bye. The third round, the AFC and NFC Championships, determine who will play in the Superbowl for a chance at a winning title and glory. The games are single elimination, and thus if a team hopes to win the Vince Lombardi trophy at the Superbowl, it is imperative they win every game after the regular season finishes. Even though DeflateGate was still a key issue in the league, Brady was still out for the first four games of the year, forcing the Patriots to use rookie quarterbacks (Bedard 66). Jimmy Garoppolo, a second round pick in the 2014 draft, was expected to start the first four games, putting massive pressure on him and the Patriots defensive line to increase their performances (Bedard 66). Bedard writes that under Brady, the Patriots defense and offence both finished in the top ten among all NFL teams in 2015, setting the bar very high for their backup quarterbacks. All these disadvantages given to the Patriots brought Goodell s reputation into question, and even though Goodell got to punish Brady, he may have caused his image harm by continuing to fight for his punishment to be accepted. A federal judge, when Brady presented his formal legal appeal, concluded that Goodell s punishment was outside his power, seeing as The NFL had a punishment for tampering with game equipment, and it wasn t a particularly large one: a fine of $25,000. Instead, Goodell ended up fining the Patriots $1 million, taking two draft picks. Humanities and art can provide understanding to children opening their minds and after my research, I can say I am in favor that children learn in early ages humanities and art. In this paper, I will provide both examples why kids should study them and why not. I will explain how do humanities and art help them to develop their intelligence and how could not be so beneficially for them as well. Even though some people say that art classes are a drain on the economy and art educations are considered a distraction and that art classes do not give children more development in their grades, my research will talk about the importance of teaching humanities and arts to kids. I will show first the good part of teaching at and humanities to kids: Premise 1: Humanities class gives kids sense about where they come from. Premise 2: Humanities helps kid to develop skills they need to grow up. Premise 3: Art relaxes your mind. Premise 4: Art helps kids to express their emotions. I have lived in New York for 18 years, and I have yet to understand what everyone likes about the Big Red Apple. Growing up as a resident of New York, one is taught that there s an opportunity in every corner, but that s not exactly what I see. I have gone to all the tourist sights, and have yet to find it as fascinating as other states such as: California, Florida, Virginia, Boston or even Washington D.C.. Times Square was beautiful in the beginning, but then you get harassed by every person with a costume on, or even if you take a picture with Elmo they charge you five dollars. Everything is also overpriced, no one should be paying a hundred dollars to ride on a horse, or paying three dollars per minute on a bicycle ride. Many neighborhoods have changed, if you go down to Brooklyn it is now hipster, and isn t the way it was before which was considered the ghetto. Everyone is paying for an experience that can be found in any state and at any time. Also, the traffic that goes on in the trains and on the streets is insane. Whether you take the Long Island expressway, the Clearview expressway or any other expressway you are going to find traffic. New york is probably known as one of the most rat infested city. There are many programs that try to end the rat dilemma, but the rat population is so large that it s hard to control. Not only are rats found on the train, they are also found in neighborhoods such as the Bronx. Many people complain about the rat situation to the city, but the homeowners take no action when it s time to clean up their own mess (Bragdon et al., 2007 2009). Many of the rats that are seen all over the city are huge, and go crawling around for any food that they can find, mainly in trash cans. Whitestone, Queens is the neighborhood that I grew up in. • 39. Inspector Dupin s The Murders In The Rue Morgue Mystery novels have been an intriguing subject to a lot of readers. A famous mystery novel writer, Edgar Allan Poe, had explained meaningful life lessons within his words, in his story, The Murders in the Rue Morgue. His story contains a strenuous case to investigate and the character, Inspector Dupin, is the only key to figuring it out. The outcome of the turning point had an immense influence to several things in the story. The discovery of the broken nail is significant because of its effects on how the killer got in and out, how carefully Dupin analyzed his clues, and proving even the smallest clues have a big impact. The damaged nail has been a significant piece of evidence to finding out who the killer is and how they could ve escaped. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dupin takes his detective work earnestly and it gives him a deep pride as he unravels each clue, connecting pieces of the puzzle. Dupin says, Upon this point I had been satisfied in my walk with you around the building... My ultimate object is only the truth. My immediate purpose is to lead you to place in juxta position (Poe 3 4). Dupin inspects every inch of the room and building until he is satisfied; showing that he knows it takes full carefulness and alertness to find a clue. As Dupin continues, he explains his logical inferences with great honesty, considering that lying is not a usage of reason (Poe 4) for him. He also states, You will say that I was puzzled; but, if you think so, you must have misunderstood the nature of the inductions. To use a sporting phrase, I had not been once at fault . (Poe 3). Dupin knows what he is doing, by telling us he is certain the window was the killer s way out. This shows his determination on what he believes and thinks. His actions or how he works has been a substantial influence on finding out who the killer is and arose an imperative life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Dobzhanski, 1973) It was during his journey on board the Beagle that Darwin developed his theory of evolution. On the Origin of Species (Darwin, 1859) proposed two main principles: evolution really occurs and natural selection is its mechanism. This work published on 24th November 1859 traces a coherent portrait of life bringing together in an orderly manner an astonishing variety of apparently independent facts. It led biologists to concentrate on the diversity of organisms, their origins and their relation, their similarities and their differences, their geographical distribution and their adaptation to various environments. Darwin (1859) arrived at two main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The need for food fashions the animal model. All which seem to have been gradually produced during many generations by the perpetual endeavour of the creatures to supply the want of food and to have been delivered to their posterity with constant improvement of them for the purposes required (Darwin, 1794 1796: section 39, Of generations ). Finally the need for safety intervenes specifically in the specific shaping of the legs which enables animals to be more adapted to flee. However, this large visionary misses the mechanism which would make it possible to explain these adaptations. Jean Baptiste Lamarck Jean Baptiste Lamarck presented his theory on the transformation of species for the first time in 1800 in his Discours d Ouverture de l an VIII . He proposed: The animals most imperfect, simply organized, those suspected in a world hardly endowed with animality, are perhaps those by which nature began when, with a lot of time and favourable circumstances, it has wrought all the other (Lamarck, 1801: 12). For Lamarck, it was habits and environmental factors which influenced the evolution of the morphology of animals. With new shapes, new abilities are gained, and over time nature arrives to where it is now. Charles Darwin In 1831, Charles Darwin participated in a five year expedition on board the Beagle. Despite very little experience, he was offered the position of naturalist. During his travels, he studied a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Monetary System Of Nepal 1.1.3 Monetary Perspective The monetary system of Nepal shows the dualistic nature of monetary economy. The urban is merged in organized industries, trade and service sector. The rural economy, where the majority of people at subsistence level without any surplus of exchange, does not show any improvement in the process of monetization. When we look historically in the monetary system of Nepalese economy, it seems the two commercial banks viz. Nepal Bank Ltd. (1936) and the Rastriya Banijya Bank (1965) played an important role in the Nepalese money market. Though those two banks were different in origin, they are now operating under the same rule and regulation of Commercial Bank Act 1974(Sharma, 1987:53). The Nepal Rastra Bank as a central bank of country took entirely a decade since its establishment in 1956, to consolidate its power as banker s bank and to regulate operations of banking. By the same token, the Nepal Industrial Development Corporation (NIDC) was set up in 1959 with the objective of providing financial outgoing of new industries in country. The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) was also established in 1968 with a view of financing in agricultural sector. The And Political Disagreements Of Texas Dominique Hollie Professor Bitzenhofer December 1, 2016 Govt 2306 023 Assignment 1 Texas, through hardship war and political disagreements, was finally established as a state in 1845; but the question after finally acquiring statehood was to be how would the judges be selected. Ever since 1876, it has been an issue on whether judicial selection, the appointment or election of state judges, are even beneficial. Judges are selected through partisan elections or nonpartisan elections through which these elections are determined by financial funds, credibility, and political or non political party views. The election of judges can initially affect the way justice in Texas is seen by not balancing the true equality of the justice system. Choosing the incorrect person for a high power position, such as someone determined to play God like Adolf Hitler, can and will affect the community tremendously. Experts from the Center for American Progress say ...judges are expected to be true to the law, not to political parties or campaign contributors. (Corriher, Web) Other ways it affects Texas is through the jurist s quality of votes, especially through partisan elections. They may be able to see who they are voting for, but only base votes on what appeals to them. The Center for American progress addresses this by commenting how, ...voters tend to vote for the judicial candidates from the party with which they are affiliated.
