Roman Land Reform Essay
The Gracchus brothers, Tiberius and Gaius, were Romans who both served as Tribunes in the
late 2nd century BC. They attempted to pass land reform legislation that would redistribute the
major aristocratic landholdings among the urban poor and veterans, in addition to other reform
processes. However, after achieving some early successes, both were assassinated by enemies of
these reforms. The period which we have considered as the most heroic in Roman history, is one
of the saddest and one of the most interesting. It is one of the saddest, because it was a time when
the Roman state was torn apart by civil strife. As the arms of the conquerors were turned against
themselves. It is one of the most interesting, as it shows to us some of the greatest... Show more

The equestrian class would get to control a court that tried senators for misconduct in provincial
administration. In effect, the equestrians replaced senators already serving at the court. Thus, Gaius
became an opponent of senatorial influence. Other reforms implemented by Gaius included fixing
prices on grain for the urban population and granting improvements in citizenship for Latins and
others outside the city of

Victor Frankenstein Quotes Analysis
In the novel Frankenstein , by Mary Shelley, the protagonist, Victor Frankenstein, bestowed life to
monster which he then banishes, leaving the creation to learn on his own. The abandonment of the
monster subsequently caused him emotional and mental damage, his exclusion and isolation from
society induced his immoral actions. Due to Victor Frankensteinnot acting as a father figure toward
his creation, the monster thus developed sociopathic tendencies and committed acts as a serial
killer would.
In consequence to the dilemma of Victor not being a good parental unit towards the monster, his
creation had no parental guidance and led to him vengefully murdering Victor s friends and
family with malice. How dare you sport thus with life? Do your duty towards me, and I will do
mine towards you and the rest of mankind (Shelley 89). This quote shows the creation bashing
Frankenstein for not being there for the creations childhood and he also criticizes victor for creating
him.

I beheld the wretch the miserable monster whom I had created he held up the curtain of the bed;
and his eyes, if they may be called, were fixed to me (Shelley 52). Victor, seeing his unsightly
creation for the first time, is repulsed by the distorted, vile being that he had so miserably given
life (Shelley 52). Victors impulsive action, running away from his own creation, shows that he
therefore has chosen to not take responsibility for his actions. Begone! I will not hear you. There
can be no community between you and me; we are enemies. Begone, or let us try our strength in a
fight, in which one must fall (Shelley 89). In this quote, Victor and his creation have met once
again. It is implicit that Victor wishes to abolish his relationship with the monster and no longer
wants anything to do with

Infantile Reflex And Neocortex
Infantile reflexes include the tonic neck reflexes, grasping reflexes and many others. As the
neocortex begins to mature, it inhibits these primitive reflexes, causing them to disappear in normal
adults. However, in people with frontal or parietal lobe damage or tumours, these reflexes are
reactivated. This raises the question: What kind of mechanisms does the neocortex employ to exert
inhibitory control over such reflexes? Since the brainis so complex, a vast variety of possible
mechanisms could exist and be utilised by the frontal and parietal lobes to suppress the reflexes.
Perhaps, there could be neuronal projections to the reflex centres where inhibitory neurotransmitters
such as GABA halt those reflexes. Another possibility could be

Police Discretion And The Control Mechanisms
Police discretion is a highly debated topic among many different groups, not only in the United
States but internationally. It is imperative to understand police discretion, and the various control
mechanisms available such as internal control mechanisms, external control mechanisms, control
by the citizens, legislative control, and control by the courts. Each control mechanism plays a vital
role in how officers of the law handle various situations. Not only do these mechanisms control
policediscretion they also provide a form of checks and balances to make sure the officers are
policing humanly and not violating constitutional rights. While some controls within each
mechanism may be repetitive they each have significant influences over the use of police discretion
and the validity of an officers belief that they made the best judgment call.
Police discretion: Police discretion commonly is used in crimes such as domestic violence, traffic
violations, and potential hate crimes or crimes involving an individual who is mentally ill. While,
police officers have been trained in many different scenarios it is impossible to determine what
situation may arise. The degree to which police officers are free to make discretionary decisions
plays a role in defining crime control and due process models of the criminal justice system
(Abdullah, 2011.) It would be easy if there were only two types of crimes in the world, than police
would not be forced to actually make any decisions on

Comparing The Flea and Valentine Essay
Comparing The Flea and Valentine
The flea is a metaphysical poem about a man trying to argue a virgin into bed to have sexual
intercourse with him. This poem was most likely written to amuse the readers and probably more
for a larger male audience. The poem was written in the late 17th century in a period where sex
within marriage was like a household chore, but socially, sex before marriage was like a sin,
because society was extremely religious. John Donne is attempting to get these thoughts out of her
head and persuade her to have sex with him.
Metaphysical poets use a lot of elaborate and extended comparisons.
They wrote energetic and vigorous poems that went against the common literature of the time.
There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poet points out that losing her virginity is not a sin.
A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead
He tries to reverse her views that both society and herself share. He is very persuasive in this
poem and uses the flea many times as a symbol of their sexual union and uses many metaphors.
He uses many sly phrases also which could easily win his argument and I feel it is making her feel
guilty and starting to make her confused and think about the prospects of them having sex.
I think that during the end of the first stanza the poet starts to become quite theatrical.
Yet this enjoys it before it woo, And pamper d swells in one blood made of two; And this, alas! Is
more than we would do.
This could be referring to sex. The flea enjoys the blood and so does the man enjoy foreplay. The
pamper d swells could be that of sexual organs before sex and yet, because that is not happening,
the flea is having a better time at the moment than he is, by sucking their blood.
I think that by using this comparison, John Donne is being very intellectual and at this point I feel
he may win his argument.
The second stanza, John Donne becomes weaker as the girl starts to defend herself and he tries to
convey his love for her.
John Donne, in this stanza I feel becomes more intimate and uses alliteration and much more poetic
techniques. At the beginning of the second stanza, I would assume that the girl has got up and left
him.

Robinson Crusoe Analysis
Robinson Crusoe, by Daniel Defoe, tells the exciting tale of a young man s adventures and
growth in wisdom and faith throughout his life and experiences. The main character, Robinson
Crusoe, decides to pursue his desire to go to sea as a young man despite the protests of his family.
After many ill fated voyages and events, Crusoe finally becomes shipwrecked on an island, where
he spends the next twenty eight years. It is here that Crusoe begins to truly understand God and
Divine Providence, something that he originally holds a more twisted view of. During his youth,
and his early days of isolation on the island, Crusoe believes that God is a disinterested and at times
wrathful creator who does not give much thought to his creation. Even though his original
repentance is through fear, Crusoe eventually comes to understand that God has a guiding hand in
the events of the universe, and that the lovehe holds for his creatures is without end. Robinson
Crusoe journeys in his attitude toward Divine Providence from a rebellion against what he
perceives as a disinterested authority early on, to an initial repentance and conversion through the
vision dream, and finally, to an active and mature faith in a loving God, Who protects and guides
all things, by the end of his stay on the island.
At the beginning of the story, when Crusoe is a young man, it can be seen that Crusoe s attitude
towards God and Divine Providence is definitely lacking. Having been weak in his faith to begin

Cezanne Vs Matisse
Introduction
Henry Matisse s Le bonheur de vivre (The Joy of Life) and Picasso s Les Demoiselles d Avignon
are considered as great artworks of modern art. The both are inspired by postimpressionism and
also broken the old style that is depicted by Cezanne. In this essay, I would like to argue how the
two are inspired by Cezanne art piece and how eminence they are.
Paul Cezanne s The Large Bathers
CГ©zanne got rid of the traditional presentation of paintings that is point on the space and colors.
And he deliberately followed firm format than changing colors. He also reduces the basic
essentials of all natural things to express with the circle, cylinder or cone. By so doing, we say this

In his painting Les Demoiselles d Avignon, he is considered as the first Cubist painting. The subject
of prostitution is from Manet s Olympia, or Cezanne s painting. But the landscape is not the same
breaking style. This is the practice of exorcising painting. He created it with multi figure
composition than the domain of the single figure. That was depicted by emotional and intellectual
control.
In Conclusion, Matisse and Picasso s painting not only were not inspired by the Cezanne s The
Large Bathers but also broke the old rule through their appealing quality form and style. Cezanne
is considered as a Post Impressionists, Matisse was a Fauvist, which focus on emotion expressing
colors, and Picasso created a multi figure composition in the early of 21st century

Analysis Of Tony Kushner And Athol Fugard
Both Tony Kushner and Athol Fugard demonstrate the effects societal standards have on
individuality. Kushner s Angels in America focused on homosexuality and the AIDS crisis during
the Reagan Era, whereas Fugard s Master Harold ...and the Boys concentrated on the issue of racism
taking place during the South African apartheid. Whether striving for a new identityor being limited
by one according to societal standards, all of the characters featured in these plays struggle to
come to terms with their true self. In this paper, I will explain the effects that stereotypes and
labels had on the growth, or lack thereof, of these individuals. A political call to arms for the age of
AIDS and homosexuality, Angels in America follows the lives of two very different, but equally
troubled couples: Jewish word processor Louis Ironson and his estranged lover, Prior Walter and
closeted gay Republican lawyer Joe Pitt and his attention seeking, Valium addicted wife, Harper.
Louis leaves Prior after realizing that he cannot endure the pressure that comes along with being
someone s fulltime caretaker. Meanwhile, Joe grapples with the idea of moving to Washington
after receiving a new job offer whilst simultaneously dealing with his wife s drug addiction and his
homosexuality. Within those two pairs, each of the four individuals struggles to come to terms with
his or her true identity. As the play progresses, the couples lives become increasingly intertwined as
they search for ways to

The Great Hunger And The Irish Potato Famine
Intro The Great Hunger, Great Famine, the dreaded calamity, or if your outside of Ireland the
Irish Potato Famine. Occurring between 1847 1852, the famine claimed the lives of around one
million people and caused millions to flee Ireland, in order to escape the bleak situation it was.

citizen, I will briefly discuss the pathogen that killed the potatocrop, the government response to the
famine, the overall consequences and reactions of the Irish people, and finally I will discuss the
ethical dilemmas that the famine raise.
Slide one Land Ownership Starting off I would like to explain what life was like for the average
Irish citizen in the mid 19th century. Most people were tenant agriculture farmers who worked
for landlords, who owned vast estates, but a great deal of them didn t, in fact, live in Ireland,
which lead to them being commonly referred to as absentee landlords. The landlords allotted
workers small plots of land to grow their own food in exchange for working the land growing
grain cash crops. In order to sustain a high calorie diet for themselves and their families, most of
these tenant farmers grew potatoes. This was primarily due to the fact you get a lot of bang for
your buck from potatoes as they yielded quite a bit of calories per acre. Outside of what the
tenants ate, Ireland produced quite a bit of food but this was mostly exported to England where

Just months after Kevin Rudd s apology in 2008, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper
publicly apologised to native Canadians for the long time government policy of taking

less) o Tell us about a time when you worked in customer service, didn t know how to handle a
situation, and worked hard to figure out what to do. Share the steps you took and the outcome.
When I worked as a Student Technology Consultant, there was a student who came to the front
desk in straight panic mode. She was working on an important assignment in the computer lab,
and it seemingly went missing before her eyes. I was immediately empathetic, because of course
I ve been there, and told her I would do all I could to help her recover the document. First, I used
prior knowledge. Admittedly, it was limited, and none of my methods did the trick. Then, I went
online and searched for solutions. (She was freaking out, and my intuition told me that she
actually did lose her assignment, so I told her if I couldn t recover her document I would write a
note explaining the situation to her professor. Of course, some professors wouldn t care, but I
figured it may help some if she needed an extension, etc.) I tried about three or four methods,
before I finally found a solution that worked (searching temp folders on the drive). I was
honestly almost as happy as her to find a solution. She was grateful, and said she appreciated my
patience and thoroughness. Before she left I gave her some tips for backing up her work
regularly...and luckily she didn t need that note. o Briefly share with

Pros And Cons Of The Kyoto Protocol
By 2008, more than 29 millions of carbon dioxide emissions had been produced to the earth and
the number keeps rising drastically each year. The irony is that this carbon dioxide itself is only
one of the all greenhouse gases that emit, affect our earth, and become a major environmental
problem. This problem that may lead us to the brink of destruction would probably become the
reason on why there is Kyoto Protocolfrom the very first time.
Kyoto Protocol is an international agreement that aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the
presence of greenhouse gases. Countries that ratify the Kyoto Protocol are assigned different
maximum carbon emission levels and can participate in carbon credit trading. Demanding more
than the assigned limit will result in a penalty for the violating country in the form of a lower
emission limit in the following period.

while the Non Annex I refers to developing countries. In this ... Show more content on

Strictly Ballroom Essay
Baz Luhrmann s directoral style in his films has evolved quite a lot from his earlier film Strictly
Ballroom (1992) to Romeo and Juliet (1996) and finally to his most recent film The Great Gatsby
(2013). This evolution is most prevalent in his cinematic language and use of mise en scene, his
story telling techniques, as well as his belief in a theatrical cinema.
In Strictly Ballroom, the mise en scene is carefully thought out by Luhrmann and his team. The
scene is very well set out to show the personalities in the Hastings family as well as their life style.
Shirley Hastings is well lit by naturalistic light which accentuates her lurid appearance. The many
bright pink cushions, expensive looking leather couch suggest that they are in a well off financial
position. They have a massive cabinet filled with trophies and photographs of Scott which shows
that he is a successful dancer and that they have lots of pride in him. Shirley s elaborate outfit is

Luhrmann wanted her room to show her wealth and her characteristics, so the room was not
meant to be very over the top or flamboyant. The result was a spacious, high ceilinged room,
illuminated by pale blue and yellow with french windows that open out to the famous balcony.
Her room is also dressed with pastel coloured saints and fluffy animals to show that this is also a
young girls room where religion is still an important part of her life.
This film is the second in Luhrmann s Red Curtain Trilogy, and this time Luhrmann has chosen to
tell the story through the use of language and poetry. The use of the language is not only to speak
a story of love, but also to stay somewhat true to the original story by Shakespeare so that the
audience of today can still experience it the way the audience of Shakespeare s time would

California s Gas Prices Overpriced
California s Gas Prices Overpriced California since the gold rush has been known as the Golden
State where it s flooded with multicultural richness from the beaches to the mountains. California
today is the most densely populated state with 38.8 million residents and is still rising, however,
not only is the population ever increasing so are gas prices. Allysia Finley an editorial writer
from The Wall Street Journal states, The national average is $2.76 a gallon, while the Golden
State drivers pay $3.88. Eco virtue is expensive (Finley 1). Gas prices in Californiahas left an effect
of overpriced due to many contributing factors: regulation over the environment, overconsumption,
and how rational people think at the margin.

However, mostly these regulations have affect only those small refineries drastically to the point of
a shut down and let only the big and powerful industrial companies take over and collect more
profit. Jennifer L. Brown author of The Market Effects of Going Green states, Additionally, trends
in industry concentrations during the time period reformulated gasoline regulation compliance
appear to have favored large refiners as small refiner market share decreased and industry
concentration increased simultaneously from 1997 to 1999 (Brown 126). Meaning that
regulations in California can be visible from the 90 s and have slowly increased, yet unnoticed to
the public until now. While these large corporations have slowly eliminated its small rivals and
maintain more of the power of the market in gasoline. Which later can have an effect of market
failure.
Multiple solutions to California s problem have a rise in order to prevent a long run effect or a
market failure. For instance, Tom Steyer a billionaire environmentalist has proposed an oil
extraction tax. However, adding another tax can lead into two directions. First, if it becomes a
corrective tax to corporations it can correct their actions, and take account of the social cost. Which
leads to low prices for consumers, and at the same time protect the environment because the seller
will have the incentive to reduce low pollution. Or it can create

Essay on Franz Kafka s Use of Humor
Franz Kafka s Use of Humor
Franz Kafka, born on July 3, 1883 in Bohemia, in the city of Prague, has been recognized as one
of the greatest writers of the twentieth century. His works have been called cloudy, mysterious,
inexplicable (Oates ix). Most people hear the term Kafkan or Kafkaesque and think of dark,
fantastic tales with almost no basis in our known reality. But what of Kafka s sense of humor? I
personally laughed out loud several times while reading Kafka s Amerika. Were these snippets of
humor part of Kafka s plan or mere accidents?
According to Roy Pascal, author of Kafka s Narrators: A Study of His Stories and Sketches, There

Georg s father goes on to kick and yell at Georg extensively. Through this entire barrage and

quirky enough to give the reader pause and wonder what is going on. Such was Kafka s intent.
Another good example is in the novel Amerika. Here, protagonist Karl Rossman comes to at

Parthenon
.Introduction
There are 3 (three) architectural orders in a classical building of the ancient Greece, they are
Doric, Ionic and Corinthian. As suggested by Dietsch and Stern (2002) that Doric is a common
style in 7th century B.C; Ionic style is first developed in the Ionian islands around the 6th century
B.C or 100 year after Doric style; and then, Corinthian style was originally from the city of Corinth
around 5th century B.C., not so popular like Doric.
The Parthenon is a Doric order style of the Temple that built by the Athenian Empire in 447 BC. In
terms of political and military viewpoints, the Parthenon is a symbol of Athenian imperial power.
As said by Martin (1999) that the Parthenon served as a champion of military power, indicated ...

The Pantheon (source: Wikipedia, 2016)
II. Discussion The initial function of both buildings is serving as a temple. Then, the Pantheon is
used as the Roman Church, while the Parthenon function is as a museum now days. Moreover,
there is another similarity between the Pantheon and the Parthenon that both Pantheon and
Parthenon have 8 pillars in front of the entrance. These pillars to support a pediment; a triangular
element in upper part of front any classical style buildings. The different between Pantheon and
Parthenon are following:
1.The Pantheon was designed to be placed to commemorate every god and goddesses (all the
Roman gods and goddesses), whereas the Parthenon was a temple for the patron of goddess, Athena.
2. In respect to structures, the Parthenon is a rectangular form; Columns are smaller; and columns
in Doric order of classical style. Quite a contrast that the Pantheon is built in a spherical structure,
look like circular from above building; columns are much larger, even to any other buildings ever
built in the Greek; and columns are in the Corinthian order of classical style.
3.In term of order of classical style that Doric is not only the oldest, but also very simple form.
While the Corinthian order is the newest one with a lot of fancies in the element and

The Issues Some Have with Surrogacy
There are many couples in the world that cannot conceive babies. Surrogacy has helped millions
of families and individuals have children. Some people say that surrogacy is unhealthy for the
surrogate mothers and that it employs immoral methods for achieving pregnancy and parenthood;
however, surrogacy allows everyone to be able to have a child of their own even if they cannot
physically conceive one, it is beneficial to society, and it does not carry the same stigma as it did
years ago.
There are four different types of surrogate parenting. The most common is Classical Surrogacy
which is surrogacy by artificial insemination using the intended father s sperm. In this type of
surrogacy, the surrogate mother is the baby s biological mother (Chittom). A surrogate mother has
to be twenty one to thirty seven years old. She needs to have two children of her own and has to
have thirteen years of formal education on surrogacy. Seventy five percent of surrogate mothers are
married and one third of them hold full time jobs. Over half of the surrogates in the United States
are military wives (Parker). The majority of surrogate mothers are raised in Christian faith with only
twenty five percent raised in Catholic faith (Chittom). Surrogates can be friends, family, or strangers
who are contacted through the many different agencies that have developed as surrogate parenting
becomes more common.
Surrogacy allows everyone to have an opportunity to have children of their own.

Being A Palliative Care Nurse
Palliative Care
Throughout this course, I have learned new information and refreshed myself on old
information. I was also able to connect old information with caring for individuals going
through palliative or end of life care. Being a palliative care nurse can be a busy and stressful
job. The nurse needs to be fully educated on many different areas to be able to provide the best
possible care for the patients and their families. A few of the topics that we discussed were the role
of the palliative care nurse, cultural competency, pain control of those in palliative care,
communication strategies, and legal and ethical issues that may occur during the end of one s life.
Role of Professional Nurse in Palliative Care
Nurses of all areas have many different roles and responsibilities. As a palliative care nurse, their
roles can include being a consultant, educator, role model, and mentor (Matzo Sherman, 2015, p.
13). In the video Lessons On Living From The Dying An Interview With A Palliative Care Nurse
On Kirsty TV (2013), the nurse showed that it is important to educate the patient and their family,
be available for the patient in many forms such as an active listener, a shoulder to cry on, etc,
involve the family in the healthcare and the decisions that are being made, provide a calm
environment and a positive atmosphere (kick the negativity out the door immediately), and most
importantly be there with the patient during this time. Caring for these patients and

Corrupt Leaders In George Orwell s Animal Farm
Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is an allegory about the 1902 Russian Revolution that led to the
overthrowing of a corrupt leader, Czar Nicholas II. In the book Animal Farm, Mr. Jones isn t
treating his animals fairly. In 1902, Czar Nicholas II wasn t treating his people equally either.
The novel and the real event can be tied together in many ways, one including having corrupt
leaders affecting society. Corrupt leaders have an effect on society because they let the power
get to their heads by not being equal, thinking they are above everyone else, and by treating their
people poorly. In 1917, the Russian Revolution started, but in 1902 Russia started falling. Czar
Nicholas was in charge at the time and he started to treat his people badly. Czar Nicholas would
indulge himself while his people were starving. The people of Russia overthrew Nicholas and the
provisional government. Stalin took over as the dictator and wasn t any better than Nicholas. In
Animal Farm, Mr. Jones was mistreating his animals much like Czar Nicholas was mistreating his

Early in 2005, IBM Business Consulting Services released a survey that compiled in depth
interviews with more than 100 sales, marketing, and merchandising executives at over 20 consumer
products and retail companies. Only 9 percent of the retailers felt their suppliers had a good
understanding of their business objectives. The gist of the survey was that retailers felt the product
manufacturers have focused their efforts on the end users of the products (the consumers), without
giving as much priority to the needs of the other members of their distribution channels namely, the
retailers to whom they sell.1

These distinctions between various types of stores will be important as we discuss their
participation in certain distribution channels.
Wholesalers
Wholesalers are intermediaries or middlemen who buy products from manufacturers and resell
them to the retailers. They take the same types of financial risks as retailers, since they purchase
the products (thereby taking legal responsibility for them), keep them in inventory until they are
resold to retailers, and may arrange for shipment to those retailers. Wholesalers can gather product
from around a country or region, or can buy foreign product lines by becoming importers. The term
wholesale is often used to describe discount retailers (as in
wholesale clubs ), but discounters are retailers, not technically wholesalers.
And in B2B channels, wholesalers may be called distributors.
Agents and Brokers
Agents (sometimes called brokers) are also intermediaries who work between suppliers and
retailers (or in B2B channels), but their agreements are different, in that they do not take ownership
of the products they sell. They are independent sales representatives who typically work on
commission based
Participants in the Distribution Channel 33 on sales volume, and they can sell to wholesalers as
well as retailers. In B2B arrangements, this means they sell to distributors and end users.
Resident sales agents are good examples in retail. They reside in the country to which they sell
products,

The Missouri River s the longest river in North America. It starts in Western Montana and ends
North of St. Louis, Missouri. Most people think that the Missouri River was made over 30 million

The United States History During The World History
It s very interesting to me when studying America history in the United States. When I lived in
Viet Nam, I studied American history in the World History Program in high school. However, this
program only focused on the history of America in the 20th century such as the Second Industrial
Revolution, the Great Depression, and the Cold War. We studied very in detail about the Cold War
because this event related to Viet Nam war. The Cold War was no large scale fighting directly
between the United Statesand Soviet Union. They are different in economy and politics which are
communist and capitalist.
When taking History 1301 course, I am really interested when I have an opportunity to exam
American history from pre Columbian to Civil War. I knew that the 13 colonies created a war to
gain freedom from the Great Britain. However, I do not know the reasons why they had to left
England to come to the New World, the United States. Now after reviewing Unit 1, I know they
had to leave their own country to come to the United Sates for god, gold, and government. For
example, The Pilgrims, who established Plymouth colony, fled to Holland in 1607to come to the
New World to look for a freedom in religion in the New World. Moreover, the origin of the first
people who came to the Americas is from Asia is a new idea to me. Based on the evidence of
archeologists found in 1927, they concluded that the first known natives from North Asia came to
the America through a frozen patch of land known as

I Was Sick At An Alley, After The Funeral Essay
I was sick in an alley, after the funeral. It was the last time I wore black, and I was making a mess
of it. After sitting in the damp for a few hours I crawled out of that hellhole to what I thought
was the nearest bar, and ordered two neat whiskeys one for me and the duke, just like we used to
after the particularly stupid missions. A bowl of soup was put out in front of me, as it slowly
dawned upon me that the bar I walked into was a diner, and the tender a waitress. Her eyes were
a hazy hazel blue, sparkly grand from the last of the ludes in my system, and she smiled some
pity to me. I went to the bathroom, cleaned myself up, and had the most goddammned delicious
chicken noodle of my life. I put my last twenty on the counter, conjured up a smile, went on my
way and that s how I started seeing Nadine Penny. It s amazing how obtuse I can be sometimes,
as I went back to the next day, and the next. I kept ordering coffee, chatting her up, getting the
story down and trying to tell what I could of mine. I felt compelled to be there I liked being
around her, she was funny, quirky, fresh air from the usual choke and gloom and violence of
mage s life. It was hard for me to come to terms with the fact that as I spent time with her, it was

The Greek Culture And The Culture Of Greece
The culture of Greece has been developed and has evolved over time for thousands of years. They
have gone through many different hands. It started with Mycenaean Greece and then continued
through the ranks. The Roman Empire held great influence and much of what we know about
Greece has come from that time period. Then the hands changed with the Byzantine Empire, the
Persian Empire, and the Ottoman Empire. Each left their mark and changed the culture that was
there and added something new each time. Culture is a relative term to understand how people live
and breathe, their traditions and religious practices etched forth the path that they are following.
Much of what has been learned is from watching and copying, making it their own.
Greece is the English name that comes from the ancient Latin word for the area Hellenic
Republic. Hellenic derives from the word ancient Greeks used to refer themselves, while the
Romeic term comes from the medieval or Byzantine Greeks. Romeic had been the first self

Relationship within the workplace and the quality of those relationships is important to career
success. Relationships allow every employee to participate and combine their skills and talents

Mentoring employees on developing good relationships with each other helps the supervisor to
realize employee conflict when they are small and easier to solve. If a small problem is allowed
to continue it can lead to bigger problems. Visibility a key factor in mentoring an employee. An
employee s visibility is easier if that employee is seen as a good performer and has a good
reputation and credibility. There are key things mentors need to train an employee to do in
order to increase his or her visibility at work. Simple ways to increase visibility is to speak up at
meetings, ask to do projects, and participate in learning opportunities. This will allow an employee
more opportunities to become more visible to managers. Conflict resolution is an essential skill
that every employee must acquire. Employees are going to have disagreements and conflicts, but
with the correct skills they will know how to resolve them or at least set them aside during

Difference Between Healthcare And The Military Draft
My vision for America is to have a country that fulfills its title as the land of the free. We need
more freedom for our future and for our safety. This can be done by liberating more contained
liberties and by removing those that imprison our freedom. The two main issues that follow this
are healthcare and the military draft. The first main issue that impedes on our freedom is
healthcare. It is our right and freedom to receive quality healthcare at no cost. Some people cannot
receive the care they need and deserve because they cannot afford the insurance or the cost of the
medical bills. Cancer patients do not receive treatment, hospital patients go into crippling debt

Dylan Thomas Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night
When a word or a phrase is repeated over and over again, it tends to become stronger in meaning
and it sticks in the subconscious. Welsh writer and poet Dylan Thomas was born in 1914 and
died in 1953. He wrote numerous works throughout his lifetime and exclusively wrote in the
English language. One such work was titled Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night. In the
poem, the narrator of an unknown gender urges the reader to not give up on life and to
passionately fight to keep living. The main literary device Thomas uses is repetition, and he uses
this tool with certain phrases to give emphasis and to make the meaning of his words stronger.
Titles are important, and the multiple use of this poem s title emphasizes the meaning behind the
poem. For example, in almost every stanza, the phrase do not go gentle into that good night
(659) is used. These words are passionately used to plead to the reader not to give up so easily on
life. The poet is talking to readers of who have thoughts of hopelessness in life and cannot find

Analysis Of Machiavelli s The Prince
There are three phases to time, the past, the present, and the future, and it is understanding the
relationship between these three phases and their collective relationship with mankind that has
fueled debates throughout the history of man. Niccolo Machiavelli and Immanuel Kant are
political philosophers who have grappled with these very relationships. Machiavelli wrote The
Prince over three centuries before the process of Italian unification had begun. The Italian
Peninsula was fragmented and could not stand on its own especially compared to the unified
powers like Spain and France. It is from this weak position that the Republic of Florence falls
costing Machiavelli his own political power. And so, Machiavelli writes his book in the middle the
chaos of his own life but the chaos that is dividing Italyas well. Kant s Idea for a Universal History
from a Cosmopolitan point of view is also written in a timeof great turmoil as the American
Revolution is winding down, and the French Revolution is about to heat up. But, Kant writes
from an isolated position in Königsberg Prussia. Kant is an outsider looking in on the upheaval
of the world but never venturing out to see it firsthand, as he will never leave his home town for
his entire life. And it is in this historical context that these two men have developed radically
different views on how man and time interact. Machiavelli will insist on human agency and action
in the here and now. Kant will conversely be more

it is written by two authors, so it isn t hugely biased in anyway as it contains two individual

Conflict Theory In American History X
American History X The film, American History X, is about two brothers, Derek and Danny,
who fall victim to their social environment in Venice Beach. A community that was once
predominately white becomes overrun by violence with the ever growing presence of blacks,
minorities and illegal immigrants. This opens the door to the boy s racist mentality, while their
father Dennis is then murdered doing his job as a fireman by a black man in a drive by
shooting. Derek s hatred towards blacks grew from this incident and was later fueled by the
influence of Cameron, the leader of a white supremacy group. Derek eventually commits a hate
crime and is sentenced to serve three years in prison for the murder of two black men. While in
prison Derek suffers the hardships of prison life and the betrayal of his own kind . He then
realizes his hatred towards blacks was initiated and controlled by others and not what he truly
wanted to identify with and vowed to change his ways. Then once he was released from prison,
Derek knew he needed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Derek and Lamont (the black man Derek befriended while working laundry in prison) are a
perfect example of Conflict theory. Derek a white man commits a heinous crime of murder and
is sentenced to only three years in prison, while Lamont a minority is sentenced to 6 years for
stealing a television. The unfair treatment between their social classes is so unbelievable that
Derek thought Lamont had to be lying about his crime. Cameron is also an example of the
conflict theory. Cameron takes on a Bourgeoisie role as he was in a position of power and preyed
upon the younger community who are in the role as Proletariat while they were in a vulnerable
state, forcing his views and beliefs on

warning parents or teachers to be able to pick up early symptoms of teenagers are lack of sleep
time. More specifically, the author is trying to make a point that s most of the kids have this are
because of the environmental interaction that they lived in, it s typically like saying it s not the
kids fault to have Circadian Rhythms. In the author work, she said that depression symptoms
weren t only showed in teens are engaging in risky behaviors (by SINGH). In this passage, the
author is suggesting that parents should have a dark room. This will likely to help the kids to not

Although the author is wrong about how does Circadian Rhythms happened and how to prevent
it(only for 1 particular way). First of all, the author is wrong about having a dark room can help
their kids, this only result in one way is depression since depression is about not interacting with
people. In facts, interacting with people by talking, have fun, are ways to help the kids to
release their stress at school. Furthermore, if a kid have good social life, he or she should be able
to have no reason for getting depress due to their joy and love of life and games, on the contrary,
by taking their equipment of having fun, they re more likely to get bored, angry, lonely, and pick
on at school for not having a social network life. Therefore I conclude that the reasons that kids
having depression is because of the environment and away to prevent it is to create opportunities
for kids to talk with someone they feel safe, close or even able to talk with. Someone that they can
trust such as a mentor health guider online. The main point of this is to help kids to communicate
with someone, if they re can t communicate, that s mean they re not living but rather is creating

Women s Experience Of Postnatal Care
Statistics and data have shown that women are less satisfied with the care they receive post natal
compared to the care they receive during antenatal and throughout labour including those women
who receive caseload midwifery care (Forster et al., 2016). Thus, this assignment will focus on
some aspects of care that influence a women s experience of postnatalcare and changes that can be
implemented to improve women s satisfaction with the early post natal care they receive. In
addition, there will be a discussion about the role of the midwife in providing postnatal care that
will be more satisfying for women. The first part of this essay will discuss how women feel on the
postnatal ward, focusing on interactions with their care providers and routine care. Following will
be a discussion about the physical environment of the postnatal ward and lastly, will be a discussion
about the current length of stay in the hospital and how it may be affecting the women.
Women are much less satisfied with the care the care they received during their post partum period
compared with the antenatal, labour and birth care they receive (Forster et al., 2016). A peer
reviewed qualitative study, Critical views on postpartum care expressed by new mothers aims to
explore woman s negative experiences of postnatal care (Rudman Waldenström, 2007). This
longitudinal study was a continuation of a previous qualitative study conducted by the authors who
found 26% of women were not

Egalitarianism In The Tairo Fishmen
Helen Keller once said that The most pathetic person in the world is someone who has sight but no
vision. This illustrates how important it is to have a vision. Vision is something that will push us
forward in achieving something we wish for. Without visions, we would have no motivation and
spirit to pull through tough times. Douglas Stewart has been influenced by the Australian culture
and society and it has given him insight of the Australian visions. In his poems, he explores the
Australian visions of man s bond with nature, conservation of fauna and the spirit of egalitarianism.
The way Stewart artfully conveys these ideas has also given responders a deeper understanding of
Australias nature and its people.
First and foremost, in the poem Nesting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem, Stewart studies these tailor takers as they wait patiently for the fish to take the bait.
He uses an antithesis, They stand together in a fine democracy; Each keeping his place and nobody
talking too much to illustrate the tailor fishermen s silent respect towards one another. They give
each other their individual space as they see each other as equals sharing a common goal. The
inclusive language together further emphasizes the fishermen s unity. Their determination and
unwavering attitude towards their activity is shown in the simile like pillars of rock they stand.
The string of nouns name and address; Income, religion, status or nationality does not affect their
attitude towards one another. They do not discriminate one another for their difference as to them,
they are all men who fish. Stewart is astonished with their spirit of egalitarianism and says in a
proud tone, I am glad to have stood with such people in the cold wind. Hence, the composer has
successfully conveyed the significance of mutual respect practiced by Australians to the

Basketball s History And The History Of Basketball
The game of basketball as it is known today was created by Dr. James Naismith in December 1891
in Springfield, Massachusetts to condition young athletes during cold months. It consisted of peach
baskets and a soccer style ball. The game became established quickly and grew very popular as the
20th century progressed, first in America and then throughout the world. After basketballbecame
established in American colleges, the professional game followed. The American National
Basketball Association (NBA), established in 1946, grew to a multibillion dollar enterprise by the
end of the century, and basketball became an integral part of American culture. This game is now
played by more than 250 million people worldwide in an organized fashion, as well as by countless
others in pick up games. Basketball originated in 1891 when a future Presbyterian minister named
James Naismithwas assigned to teach a physical education class at a Young Men s Christian
Association (YMCA) training school in Springfield, Massachusetts. The first professional league
was in 1898. Players that wanted to play earned $2.50 every home game they played and $1.25 for
an away game. A player on the Washington Bullets which are now called the Washington Wizards,
had offers of more than 100 million dollars in over seven seasons on the Washington Bullets and the
Miami Heat. A lot of teams in the NBA now have players from different countries, who return home
to represent their native countries during the Olympic Games. The Dream Team , made u p of the
top American professional players, has stood up for the United States in the recent Olympic
Games. In 1996 the Dream Team trailed some opponents until fairly late in the games an indication
of basketball s growing international status. In Athens 2004, Argentina took the gold medal home.
That s the first time a Latin American country won the basketball honor. The rules to the game of
Basketball is that the ball can be thrown in any direction with one or both hands. The ball may be
batted in any direction with one or both hands, but never with the fist. A player cannot run with the
ball. The player must throw it from the spot on which he catches it, allowance to be made for a

  • 2. Roman Land Reform Essay The Gracchus brothers, Tiberius and Gaius, were Romans who both served as Tribunes in the late 2nd century BC. They attempted to pass land reform legislation that would redistribute the major aristocratic landholdings among the urban poor and veterans, in addition to other reform processes. However, after achieving some early successes, both were assassinated by enemies of these reforms. The period which we have considered as the most heroic in Roman history, is one of the saddest and one of the most interesting. It is one of the saddest, because it was a time when the Roman state was torn apart by civil strife. As the arms of the conquerors were turned against themselves. It is one of the most interesting, as it shows to us some of the greatest... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Victor Frankenstein Quotes Analysis In the novel Frankenstein , by Mary Shelley, the protagonist, Victor Frankenstein, bestowed life to monster which he then banishes, leaving the creation to learn on his own. The abandonment of the monster subsequently caused him emotional and mental damage, his exclusion and isolation from society induced his immoral actions. Due to Victor Frankensteinnot acting as a father figure toward his creation, the monster thus developed sociopathic tendencies and committed acts as a serial killer would. In consequence to the dilemma of Victor not being a good parental unit towards the monster, his creation had no parental guidance and led to him vengefully murdering Victor s friends and family with malice. How dare you sport thus with life? Do your duty towards me, and I will do mine towards you and the rest of mankind (Shelley 89). This quote shows the creation bashing Frankenstein for not being there for the creations childhood and he also criticizes victor for creating him. When a baby is born, it looks to the father and mother to be nurtured and given loving care. There are many statistics on how not growing up with a father figure can cause sociopathy ... I beheld the wretch the miserable monster whom I had created he held up the curtain of the bed; and his eyes, if they may be called, were fixed to me (Shelley 52). Victor, seeing his unsightly creation for the first time, is repulsed by the distorted, vile being that he had so miserably given life (Shelley 52). Victors impulsive action, running away from his own creation, shows that he therefore has chosen to not take responsibility for his actions. Begone! I will not hear you. There can be no community between you and me; we are enemies. Begone, or let us try our strength in a fight, in which one must fall (Shelley 89). • 5. Infantile Reflex And Neocortex Infantile reflexes include the tonic neck reflexes, grasping reflexes and many others. As the neocortex begins to mature, it inhibits these primitive reflexes, causing them to disappear in normal adults. However, in people with frontal or parietal lobe damage or tumours, these reflexes are reactivated. This raises the question: What kind of mechanisms does the neocortex employ to exert inhibitory control over such reflexes? Since the brainis so complex, a vast variety of possible mechanisms could exist and be utilised by the frontal and parietal lobes to suppress the reflexes. Perhaps, there could be neuronal projections to the reflex centres where inhibitory neurotransmitters such as GABA halt those reflexes. Another possibility could be ... • 8. Police Discretion And The Control Mechanisms Police discretion is a highly debated topic among many different groups, not only in the United States but internationally. It is imperative to understand police discretion, and the various control mechanisms available such as internal control mechanisms, external control mechanisms, control by the citizens, legislative control, and control by the courts. Each control mechanism plays a vital role in how officers of the law handle various situations. Not only do these mechanisms control policediscretion they also provide a form of checks and balances to make sure the officers are policing humanly and not violating constitutional rights. While some controls within each mechanism may be repetitive they each have significant influences over the use of police discretion and the validity of an officers belief that they made the best judgment call. Police discretion: Police discretion commonly is used in crimes such as domestic violence, traffic violations, and potential hate crimes or crimes involving an individual who is mentally ill. While, police officers have been trained in many different scenarios it is impossible to determine what situation may arise. The degree to which police officers are free to make discretionary decisions plays a role in defining crime control and due process models of the criminal justice system (Abdullah, 2011.) • 9. Comparing The Flea and Valentine Essay Comparing The Flea and Valentine The flea is a metaphysical poem about a man trying to argue a virgin into bed to have sexual intercourse with him. This poem was most likely written to amuse the readers and probably more for a larger male audience. The poem was written in the late 17th century in a period where sex within marriage was like a household chore, but socially, sex before marriage was like a sin, because society was extremely religious. John Donne is attempting to get these thoughts out of her head and persuade her to have sex with him. Metaphysical poets use a lot of elaborate and extended comparisons. They wrote energetic and vigorous poems that went against the common literature of the time. There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poet points out that losing her virginity is not a sin. A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead He tries to reverse her views that both society and herself share. He is very persuasive in this poem and uses the flea many times as a symbol of their sexual union and uses many metaphors. He uses many sly phrases also which could easily win his argument and I feel it is making her feel guilty and starting to make her confused and think about the prospects of them having sex. I think that during the end of the first stanza the poet starts to become quite theatrical. Yet this enjoys it before it woo, And pamper d swells in one blood made of two; And this, alas! Is more than we would do. This could be referring to sex. The flea enjoys the blood and so does the man enjoy foreplay. The pamper d swells could be that of sexual organs before sex and yet, because that is not happening, the flea is having a better time at the moment than he is, by sucking their blood. I think that by using this comparison, John Donne is being very intellectual and at this point I feel he may win his argument. The second stanza, John Donne becomes weaker as the girl starts to defend herself and he tries to convey his love for her. John Donne, in this stanza I feel becomes more intimate and uses alliteration and much more poetic techniques. At the beginning of the second stanza, I would assume that the girl has got up and left him.

  • 13. Robinson Crusoe Analysis Robinson Crusoe, by Daniel Defoe, tells the exciting tale of a young man s adventures and growth in wisdom and faith throughout his life and experiences. The main character, Robinson Crusoe, decides to pursue his desire to go to sea as a young man despite the protests of his family. After many ill fated voyages and events, Crusoe finally becomes shipwrecked on an island, where he spends the next twenty eight years. It is here that Crusoe begins to truly understand God and Divine Providence, something that he originally holds a more twisted view of. During his youth, and his early days of isolation on the island, Crusoe believes that God is a disinterested and at times wrathful creator who does not give much thought to his creation. Even though his original repentance is through fear, Crusoe eventually comes to understand that God has a guiding hand in the events of the universe, and that the lovehe holds for his creatures is without end. Robinson Crusoe journeys in his attitude toward Divine Providence from a rebellion against what he perceives as a disinterested authority early on, to an initial repentance and conversion through the vision dream, and finally, to an active and mature faith in a loving God, Who protects and guides all things, by the end of his stay on the island. At the beginning of the story, when Crusoe is a young man, it can be seen that Crusoe s attitude towards God and Divine Providence is definitely lacking. The both are inspired by postimpressionism and also broken the old style that is depicted by Cezanne. In this essay, I would like to argue how the two are inspired by Cezanne art piece and how eminence they are. Paul Cezanne s The Large Bathers CГ©zanne got rid of the traditional presentation of paintings that is point on the space and colors. And he deliberately followed firm format than changing colors. Whether striving for a new identityor being limited by one according to societal standards, all of the characters featured in these plays struggle to come to terms with their true self. Slide one Land Ownership Starting off I would like to explain what life was like for the average Irish citizen in the mid 19th century. Most people were tenant agriculture farmers who worked for landlords, who owned vast estates, but a great deal of them didn t, in fact, live in Ireland, which lead to them being commonly referred to as absentee landlords. The landlords allotted workers small plots of land to grow their own food in exchange for working the land growing grain cash crops. In order to sustain a high calorie diet for themselves and their families, most of these tenant farmers grew potatoes. This was primarily due to the fact you get a lot of bang for your buck from potatoes as they yielded quite a bit of calories per acre. Outside of what the tenants ate, Ireland produced quite a bit of food but this was mostly exported to England where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The irony is that this carbon dioxide itself is only one of the all greenhouse gases that emit, affect our earth, and become a major environmental problem. This problem that may lead us to the brink of destruction would probably become the reason on why there is Kyoto Protocolfrom the very first time. Kyoto Protocol is an international agreement that aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the presence of greenhouse gases. Strictly Ballroom Essay Baz Luhrmann s directoral style in his films has evolved quite a lot from his earlier film Strictly Ballroom (1992) to Romeo and Juliet (1996) and finally to his most recent film The Great Gatsby (2013). This evolution is most prevalent in his cinematic language and use of mise en scene, his story telling techniques, as well as his belief in a theatrical cinema. In Strictly Ballroom, the mise en scene is carefully thought out by Luhrmann and his team. The scene is very well set out to show the personalities in the Hastings family as well as their life style. Essay on Franz Kafka s Use of Humor Franz Kafka s Use of Humor Franz Kafka, born on July 3, 1883 in Bohemia, in the city of Prague, has been recognized as one of the greatest writers of the twentieth century. His works have been called cloudy, mysterious, inexplicable (Oates ix). Most people hear the term Kafkan or Kafkaesque and think of dark, fantastic tales with almost no basis in our known reality. But what of Kafka s sense of humor? I personally laughed out loud several times while reading Kafka s Amerika. Were these snippets of humor part of Kafka s plan or mere accidents? According to Roy Pascal, author of Kafka s Narrators: A Study of His Stories and Sketches, There is a good deal of humour in these early stories, as in the novels and later stories, but ... This left turn from the heat of the moment is quirky enough to give the reader pause and wonder what is going on. Such was Kafka s intent. Another good example is in the novel Amerika. Here, protagonist Karl Rossman comes to at 3:00 am after a serious fight with two men, Robinson and Delamarche, whom he met shortly after his arrival to the United States from Germany. • 25. Parthenon .Introduction There are 3 (three) architectural orders in a classical building of the ancient Greece, they are Doric, Ionic and Corinthian. As suggested by Dietsch and Stern (2002) that Doric is a common style in 7th century B.C; Ionic style is first developed in the Ionian islands around the 6th century B.C or 100 year after Doric style; and then, Corinthian style was originally from the city of Corinth around 5th century B.C., not so popular like Doric. The Parthenon is a Doric order style of the Temple that built by the Athenian Empire in 447 BC. In terms of political and military viewpoints, the Parthenon is a symbol of Athenian imperial power. The different between Pantheon and Parthenon are following: 1.The Pantheon was designed to be placed to commemorate every god and goddesses (all the Roman gods and goddesses), whereas the Parthenon was a temple for the patron of goddess, Athena. 2. Some people say that surrogacy is unhealthy for the surrogate mothers and that it employs immoral methods for achieving pregnancy and parenthood; however, surrogacy allows everyone to be able to have a child of their own even if they cannot physically conceive one, it is beneficial to society, and it does not carry the same stigma as it did years ago. There are four different types of surrogate parenting. The most common is Classical Surrogacy which is surrogacy by artificial insemination using the intended father s sperm. In this type of surrogacy, the surrogate mother is the baby s biological mother (Chittom). A surrogate mother has to be twenty one to thirty seven years old. She needs to have two children of her own and has to have thirteen years of formal education on surrogacy. Seventy five percent of surrogate mothers are married and one third of them hold full time jobs. Over half of the surrogates in the United States are military wives (Parker). The majority of surrogate mothers are raised in Christian faith with only twenty five percent raised in Catholic faith (Chittom). Surrogates can be friends, family, or strangers who are contacted through the many different agencies that have developed as surrogate parenting becomes more common. Surrogacy allows everyone to have an opportunity to have children of their own. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I was also able to connect old information with caring for individuals going through palliative or end of life care. Being a palliative care nurse can be a busy and stressful job. The nurse needs to be fully educated on many different areas to be able to provide the best possible care for the patients and their families. A few of the topics that we discussed were the role of the palliative care nurse, cultural competency, pain control of those in palliative care, communication strategies, and legal and ethical issues that may occur during the end of one s life. Role of Professional Nurse in Palliative Care Nurses of all areas have many different roles and responsibilities. As a palliative care nurse, their roles can include being a consultant, educator, role model, and mentor (Matzo Sherman, 2015, p. 13). In the video Lessons On Living From The Dying An Interview With A Palliative Care Nurse On Kirsty TV (2013), the nurse showed that it is important to educate the patient and their family, be available for the patient in many forms such as an active listener, a shoulder to cry on, etc, involve the family in the healthcare and the decisions that are being made, provide a calm environment and a positive atmosphere (kick the negativity out the door immediately), and most importantly be there with the patient during this time. Corrupt Leaders In George Orwell s Animal Farm Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is an allegory about the 1902 Russian Revolution that led to the overthrowing of a corrupt leader, Czar Nicholas II. In the book Animal Farm, Mr. Jones isn t treating his animals fairly. In 1902, Czar Nicholas II wasn t treating his people equally either. The novel and the real event can be tied together in many ways, one including having corrupt leaders affecting society. Corrupt leaders have an effect on society because they let the power get to their heads by not being equal, thinking they are above everyone else, and by treating their people poorly. In 1917, the Russian Revolution started, but in 1902 Russia started falling. Czar Nicholas was in charge at the time and he started to treat his people badly. Czar Nicholas would indulge himself while his people were starving. The people of Russia overthrew Nicholas and the provisional government. • 31. The United States History During The World History It s very interesting to me when studying America history in the United States. When I lived in Viet Nam, I studied American history in the World History Program in high school. However, this program only focused on the history of America in the 20th century such as the Second Industrial Revolution, the Great Depression, and the Cold War. We studied very in detail about the Cold War because this event related to Viet Nam war. The Cold War was no large scale fighting directly between the United Statesand Soviet Union. They are different in economy and politics which are communist and capitalist. When taking History 1301 course, I am really interested when I have an opportunity to exam American history from pre Columbian to Civil War. I knew that the 13 colonies created a war to gain freedom from the Great Britain. However, I do not know the reasons why they had to left England to come to the New World, the United States. Now after reviewing Unit 1, I know they had to leave their own country to come to the United Sates for god, gold, and government. For example, The Pilgrims, who established Plymouth colony, fled to Holland in 1607to come to the New World to look for a freedom in religion in the New World. Moreover, the origin of the first people who came to the Americas is from Asia is a new idea to me. Welsh writer and poet Dylan Thomas was born in 1914 and died in 1953. He wrote numerous works throughout his lifetime and exclusively wrote in the English language. One such work was titled Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night. In the poem, the narrator of an unknown gender urges the reader to not give up on life and to passionately fight to keep living. The main literary device Thomas uses is repetition, and he uses this tool with certain phrases to give emphasis and to make the meaning of his words stronger. Titles are important, and the multiple use of this poem s title emphasizes the meaning behind the poem.
