Evil Definition Essay
Evil is immorality without reasonable justification. Evil is harming another for no reason other than
personal satisfaction or achievement. Evil is the premeditated act of damage to another person,
whether it s emotional, physical, or financial. In my opinion, pure evil isn t common. Looking at a
criminal s past, for example, and seeing the decisions they faced, one is able to understand or even
sympathize with their actions. This changes certain acts from evil to a label that s still horrid, but
allows the public to comprehend the reasons behind the crime. Say, for instance, a woman of 40
murders her partner and young children. Many might call this woman evil. However, if we see that she
s been suffering from schizophrenia and her insurance told her they wouldn t cover her new
prescription, we start to understand how she was in an altered state of mind. Piling on stress and the
extent of her illness, we see how she could have killed her family. This explanation exonerates her
from the label of evil . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I grew up in a culture where my immediate family was democratic, and I went to an extremely liberal
arts private school for 13 years. I was raised to judge only after knowing all of the facts, which
influences how I see evil. Knowing one s backstory humanizes them. This is important; we have to
humanize every defendant in court or they just become a number, and the criminal justice system has
failed. I haven t had any personal experiences with evil. From a religious point of view, I m an
agnostic but I was raised Jewish. I never believed in God, and I remember little of the teachings of
Judaism. Therefore, being non religious has affected my view of evil in the sense that I don t believe
in the conservative values of evil (homosexuality, for instance). Recent events and survival needs have

Pope Gregory The Great Essay
Is certainly one of the most notable figures in Ecclesiastical History. He has exercised in many
respects a momentous influence on the doctrine, the organization, and the discipline of the Catholic
Church. To him we must look for an explanation of the religious situation of the Middle Ages; indeed,
if no account were taken of his work, the evolution of the form of medieval Christianity would be
almost inexplicable. And further, in so far as the modern Catholic system is a legitimate development
of medieval Catholicism, of this too Gregory may not unreasonably be termed the Father. Almost all
the leading principles of the later Catholicism are found, at any rate in germ, in Gregory the Great. .
(F.H. Dudden, Gregory the Great , 1, p. v).
The preceding paper will examine the life and effect Pope Gregory (the Great) I had on medieval
Christianity up to the present day. Through this exercise we flush out the efforts and work that
Gregory to advance early Christendom. For many Protestant it seems to be controversial to look at the
Pope as a positive influence on anything. I will show the positive and not focus in on the negative this
gentleman, and man of God had on the Christian church. Therefore, I will lay out and unpack a ...

We called to dismiss the word Pope and look at the broader influence and work this man did for the
church. Where protestants would argue with Pope Gregory in regard to the Sacraments and the works
being aspect of salvation the focus needs to be on what he did for the larger church. Thus, the
conclusion of this paper is the Pope Gregory is truly sitting in the presence of our Lord because of the
work and faith he displayed on earth. Therefore, we will move past the argument of the Protestant and
Catholic positions and look at the Gregory s record in helping strengthen and solidify a heterogeneous
church during great upheaval, and

Searle s Robot
Searle presents an incredible argument to be sure, especially with the Chinese Room thought
experiment. In the end, I would have to concede to it, if I was trapped in a room with only the barrels
of symbols and the rulebooks, I would not know the meaning of the Chinese symbols from simply
arranging responses from these symbols. However; that does not mean that the argument is perfect.
The premise that semantics cannot be derived from syntax alone can be challenged with an extension
to the Chinese Room experiment. Let us assume that we put a digital computer into a robot, which has
visual cameras, touch, taste, and smell sensors, and microphones to gain external data from the outside
world, which would go into the computer as additional syntactical data. Let us also assume that the
robot looks and acts like the average human, and also that each and every action that the robot takes is
taken in the same way as the Chinese Room experiment, as syntactical data turning into new
syntactical data due to the implementation of programs. Therefore, in the same respect as the ... Show

The reply states a computer can only derive the semantics from syntax if given enough connections to
assist with the derivation from syntax to semantics. However; since the reply is essentially an
incomplete argument against Searle s argument, it is not a very devastating criticism. If the Chinese
Room was put into the robot, and I was given all of this syntactical information about the world, I still
would not know what the symbols would mean despite what the robot is actually doing because I am
only shuffling symbols. I am unable to gain any meaning from them. (Cole, 4.2) The actions of the
robot do not prove that the computer operating it is thinking, it only means that it is still able to run

Why The Kiva System Has Become A Successful
There are many reasons why the Kiva system has become very successful in delivering results to the
companies who have made the investment of implementing it to their pick and packing stations. The
concern with these station is that they are considered cost centers in the supply chain of a company.
Labor is a huge part of the cost associated with these centers as well as the cost with expanding
automated retrieval and storage systems. By improving the efficiency in this part of the value chain
would mean huge savings for the company. Kiva systems are intended to improve efficiency, reduce
power consumption, and essentially eliminate some processes necessary under the old method of pick
and packing. Labor cost would be reduced by picking up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They would be more concerned in inventory space. Description of the Logistical Practice To better
understand how the Kiva System works, one needs to understand how the need for the Kiva System
was created. Warehouses play an important role in the supply chain from the manufacturer to the
consumer. They serve as giant pick and packing centers. The product comes in usually in large pallets
that are sold in bulk, but then they are broken down and either repackaged or organized to be stored at
the warehouse. These distribution centers are considered cost centers because the work done at the
facility add no inherent value to the product (Kamarthi). This means that all the cost is being placed on
the company and not the consumer because it adds no value to the product. This would mean that it is
really important for a company to keep the operational costs at a minimum by improving the accuracy
of the distribution center high. The process of filling and order in a distribution center requires a few
people, pickers, sorters, and packers. This means that a lot of money is tied up to labor. Another
method the DC s use to make the process faster is by using automation processes such as conveyors
and sorting equipment. These automation handling systems are very expensive and involve large
design cycles that take 12 to 24 month to bring online (article citation). Another drawback is that once
they are set, they are set in stone

Observation In Good Country People, By Flannery O Connor
Observation In her story Good Country People, Flannery O Connor writes of Hulga Hopewell s
unfortunate experience where her confidence in her intellect leads her to make wrong conclusions of
other people s character. Living in self pity and despair after the accident that takes away her leg,
Hulga Hopewell maintains a negative view of life, herself, and others around her. In the story, her
mother, Mrs. Hopewell writes She grew less like other people and more like herself bloated, rude, and
squint eyed (O Connor 487). In addition to believing herself ugly, Hulga does not believe in God and
depends on her own Ph.D. in philosophy for advanced knowledge to explain the world and other
people s behavior. However, as Mrs. Hopewell perfectly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They come to you in sheep s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will

full of adultery, they [false teachers] never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in
greed an accursed brood (2 Peter 2: 40, NIV) In this story, Hulga believes in Pointer s good character
because of the kind, Christian attitude he initially shows when she first meets him. However, she fails
to realize that the man s behavior toward her during their walk together did not reflect the fruits of the
spirit. As a result, she falls into the trap of letting him steal her heart and then her leg. As this story
warns, we as Christians need to stay firm in our faith and not let others lead us astray with a false
show of outer spirituality. In 1 John 4:1, John writes Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test
the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the
world (NIV). If Hulga had not denied God s knowledge, she would have not been led so easily astray

A Brief Note On The City Of California
(Anecdote) Growing up in Cathedral City, California was quite different compared to living in Palm
Desert, California. To say the least, danger seemed to be a popular subject in that town. Soon enough,
my siblings, Laura and Daniel, and I had grown accustom to hearing gunshots and the sirens of
emergency services being repeated as much as the songs on the radio. As clearly shown, our
community was not exactly what my family expected when we moved there. Not only was gunfire a
regular background noise, but on multiple occasions, strangers decided it would be acceptable to
sneak into our backyard and steal our belongings, which in reality did not have much value. Although
most times they would quickly come and go, once there was a man who ... Show more content on

Throughout Paulo Coelho s the Alchemist, the four most significant themes were love, omens, fate,
and dreams. *Love is what can cause a person to do their best in the toughest situations. From the very
beginning, Paulo Coelho introduces Santiago s first love interest who happened to be the merchant s
daughter, a girl the shepherd never stopped thinking about (8). This first love is what gave Santiago
the strength to do better for himself. Later in his journey, he arrived at the oasis, but he and the
Englishman wanted to find the Alchemist. They started questioning the people who crossed their path
if they know about him. Soon after he met Fatima, who he quickly claimed that he loved and wanted
to marry (95 98). The feelings Santiago had towards Fatima were the genuine kind that would
sacrifice everything for her, yet he knew he had to continue his path. While dreaming about hawks
Santiago suddenly got a vision and soon after, is told that the information should be told to the tribal
chieftains and although he first does not want to he thinks about Fatima and does it for her (103 107).
Although Santiago was scared that they would laugh at him, he soon realized it must have been a sign
from god and pushed his worries aside to protect Fatima. Lastly, even after everything Santiago
suffered on his attack he was happy for he would finally be able to return to Fatima (171). Perhaps if it

Evaluate The Effectiveness Of The Articles Of Confederation
The Effectiveness of the Articles of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation established the first national government of the United States after it
declared independence from England. The American Revolution heavily influenced this document, as
the American people refused to have another tyrant rule their country. From 1781 to 1789 the Articles
of Confederation provided the United States with an ineffective government because of its lack of
power to tax, raise an army, or regulate trade; however, it redeemed itself with the creation of the land
ordinances of 1785 and 1787, and keeping the states united after the American Revolution.

The ceded lands were to be systematically surveyed into townships six miles square, prior to sale or
settlement. Of the thirty six sections of 640 acres in each township, the sixteenth was reserved for the
maintenance of public schools. The national government then had land to sell and with which they
could create new states. The 1787 Northwest land ordinance created the protocol for this, providing a
method for admitting new states to the Union, and listing a bill of rights guaranteed in these territories
(5).
In conclusion, the Articles of Confederation provided the United States with an ineffective

Flatland
There are many things in this world, and in others, that I believe cannot be fully understood. For
example, in the story of Flatland, A. Square explains his world and what he thinks of ours. To him, our
world has space, thus calling it Spaceland, which is something they do not have in Flatland, hints the
name Flat land. In effort to explain the difference in the worlds, one would find it confusing and hard
to comprehend Abbott s writing, especially for those of us who have only been told and informed
about the world of three dimensions. In mentioning of only being informed of one subject, I would

the world, by first finding out who he himself is. In this film, Matt Damon takes on the role of a

He is not wearing any masks because he feels protected in these situations. In the times where Will is
in a position where he is hiding inside himself, or he doesn t have that sense of security, Van Sant does
a very obvious color change to more colder hues, such as blue and white. This use of color builds a
feeling of manipulation and unease, being distant and unfriendly. One such example is Will s first
encounter with Sean, the psychologist. He is staring at a work of art that is suspended on the window
and as he is looking at it, he is examining its artistic worth and Sean s life (Van Sant Bender, 1997).
The nearer he gets to the image, the more frigid the light gets until the conclusion of the monologue
when he is directly facing it and the sunlight produces an impression that is quite comparable to an
overexposed photograph, which causes Will to look especially bizarre, and terrifying. In this big
moment, there is an entire change in mood within one shot. The frigidness of the shot forms a sense of
reckoning and the viewer can identify with how Will lashes out when he is in circumstances he doesn t
feel comfortable with. Furthermore, Vant Sant makes statements which are just as strong through his
use of camera angles and shots. Together with the film s cinematographer, Jean Yves Escoffier, he

Effects Of Xenia In The Iliad
Xenia is an obligatory, socially regulated hospitality shown to suppliants and strangers by god fearing
hosts. This notion can be broken into two aspects: conduct and food and libations. When welcomed in
to a residence, hosts are expected to treat a guest respectfully and amicably this then transitions to the
food and libations portion of xenia. This facet revolves less on entertainment, but rather is symbolic of
a host opening their home as a place for a suppliant to rest and find asylum from the woes of travel. It
is the recipient s responsibility to treat the host with respect, as they are visitors. I assert that xenia has
a direct effect on a relationship and its ensuing trajectory because respect is the foundation of xenia;
these effects can be seen throughout The Iliad and The Odyssey, particularly in the interactions of ...

Code Talkers Summary
Remember back in elementary school when friends of yours would create a language or signs to have

The article first starts to discuss how the beginning of World War II was declining fast for the United
States after being hit at Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. U.S. Armed Force Officials realized the
communications between branches of military and allies were being intercepted by Japanese

affair involved deeper partisan divides (Brown University). Party divides created conflict through the
congressional hearings, with Republicans defending and supporting the administration and Democrats
united in an attack against the administration. One of the minority members of the House Select
Committee charged with investigating the Iran Contra affair, Bill McCollum, made this statement,
Partisan bickering was the most distressing thing about the hearings. It got in the way of our purpose,
which was to bring out the facts, to determine the President s credibility, and, finally, to recommend
law and policy changes that reach far beyond these hearings (Brown University) Consequently, some
blame can be placed on party divide as to why the public and government officials felt very little had
been done to address the secrecy and blatant incompliance of law at a federal

Portrayal Of Women In Persepolis
Women in our society have been treated as a sideline, not included, and muted across our generations.
In the graphic novel Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi shows religion and authority to portray that women in
the text are marginalized, excluded, and silenced. This graphic novel takes place in Iran during the
Islamic Revolution, which influenced a lot of how women were treated. The women in Persepolis are
marginalized, excluded, and silenced by restricted communication, forbidden to wear what they want,
and not always having control of their actions. Persepolis demonstrates women being marginalized,
excluded, and silenced through restricted communication. In the chapter The Key , the girls are being
marginalized and silenced by Marji explaining a mandatory self flagellation ritual they perform twice
a day as mourning the dead of the war, Marji says, ...And we had to beat our chests in a voice over, as
a way of telling us she had no choice in the ritual or to speak during it(95). The image for the self
flagellation additionally portrays this thought by everyone executing the same beating, dressed the
same, and their emanata expresses a straight face looking forward in silence. Satrapi also goes on
saying and showing for initiation for the beginning of school, all the girls are illustrated as confused
with question marks above them as indication, as the icon/teacher says, Let s go children on the
heart(96) Satrapi only speaks in voiceovers as a way of indicating she, and no

Chaotic Japanese Internment Camps
Chaotic Japanese Internment Camps I spent my boyhood behind the barbed wire fences of American
internment camps and that part of my life is something that I wanted to share with more people,
George Takei. While the death driven camps in Nazi Germany unleashed hatred to the Jewish
population, the United States government used Japanese American Internment Camps to racially
segregate, imprison, and punish Japanese Americans to eliminate the risk of a Japanese American
doubling as a spy.
Japanese Internment camp were labor camps scattered around the west coast of the US. These camps
forced the compliance of Japanese Americans on the United States government, and limited their
public knowledge of the war occurring at the time. On December 7, 1941, the ruthless, Japanese
launched an attack on the US naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, killing 2,500 men, and destroying
weaponry and war machines. This harsh attack made Japanese Americans seem like a threat to the
government, and as a result, the US prosecuted and started the relocation of this ethnic group to avoid
espionage.
Japanese Americans are US citizens or aliens, that come from the island nation of Japan. These ethnics
have come into the United States, usually to start a better life and to get away from the mass violence
of the prolonging 15 year war in Japan. During the relocation of Japanese Americans to these
laborious camps, US citizens discriminated and victimized this indigenous group, from the result of

American Indian Movement Essay
American Indian Movement: Activism and Repression Native Americans have felt distress from
societal and governmental interactions for hundreds of years. American Indian protests against these
pressures date back to the colonial period. Broken treaties, removal policies, acculturation, and
assimilation have scarred the indigenous societies of the United States. These policies and the
continued oppression of the native communities produced an atmosphere of heightened tension.
Governmental pressure for assimilation and their apparent aim to destroy cultures, communities, and
identities through policies gave the native people a reason to fight. The unanticipated consequence
was the subsequent creation of a pan American Indian identity ... Show more content on

Shortly, after fulfilling local obligations the AIM began to address the state and national arenas. Indian
youth from colleges, reservations and urban centers began to speak out against treatments they were
receiving, while advocating self government and autonomy. The AIM focus took a shift from
socioeconomic discrimination against Indians towards the government s policies and programs. This
identity based movement began to receive extreme support from returning Native American Vietnam
veterans. Why was I fighting to uphold a U.S. treaty commitment halfway around the world when the
United States was violating its treaty commitments to my own people and about 300 other Indian
Nations? asked one Creek Cherokee veteran. I was fighting the wrong people, pure and simple
(Calloway 437). The ethically comprised members of the AIM started to raise their concerns through
radical events to attract public and governmental action on their behalf. The occupation of Alcatraz
Island played a large role in establishing new methods in the Native Americans fight for recognition

an event helped to fuel the Alcatraz occupation. On October 9th, of 1969 the American Indian Center

Internal System Controls And Application Controls Essay
Internal System Controls
Introduction
Today, businesses rely mostly on technology. However, there are risks that business information
systems face such as human input errors, transaction or data input that is unsuitably permitted prior to
data input, and input controls that do not offer assurance that all transactions that are initially caught
and recorded; these risks are all categorized as data origin risks. Business organizations combat this
and other risks using General Controls and Application Controls. Please keep reading to find out what
this controls are and how they are used, as well as learn about other risks that business face and their
respective classes.
1. General Controls
General Controls consist of implementation controls, software controls, hardware controls, computer
operations controls, data security controls and administrative controls. These controls ensure that
approved user involvement as well as exact procedures and standards are followed, controlled and are
properly managed to secure physical and electronic data1.
2. Application Controls
Application specific controls include data origin, data input, data processing and data output controls.
These controls ensure accuracy, completeness, validation, tracking and proper reliable distribution of
data is attained in an organizational environment. Other application controls are application access,
audit trail and documentation controls; that ensure controlled segregated access to documentation and
data.

Taking a Look at Ulysses S. Grant
Ulysses S. Grant Ulysses S. Grant, the eighteenth president of the United States, was a man of many
notions. Grant endured a long journey from horseman to general. This journey continued all the way
to President of the Unites States. From being born in a small white cottage, all the way to piecing
together the Union, Grant has done it all. In the sixty three years that Grant was alive, he made many
positive impacts and shaped our country for the better. Born Ulysses Hiram Grant, on April 27, 1822,
Grant was the son of Jesse Root Grant and Hannah Simpson (Ulysses S. Grant). Soon after Ulysses
turned of age, with the help of local congressman, his father enrolled him into the West Point Military
Academy (Williams, Jean Kinney). Grant had to abandon his life of tannery and horsemanship, and
move from Ohio to West Point, New York (Humanist Profile). Upon graduation from West Point in
1843, he was admitted into the U.S Army as a second lieutenant. He was sent to post in St Louis, and
he met Julia Dent, his future spouse. Under the Polk administration, Grant was sent to Texas to serve
under General Zachary Taylor in the Mexican War (Williams, Jean Kinney). After resigning from the
army, he returned to Julia in 1854 (Ulysses S. Grant). Grant was living a rough life after the Mexican
War, but once the Civil War began, Grant enlisted for the Union Army (Williams, Jean Kinney). Upon

The Turn Of The Screw Literary Analysis
Henry James created a number of famous stories during his time The Turn of the Screw being one of
his most iconic ones. James is a very iconic writer for his time and even till this day with the structure
of his writing. This short story has been read over, for more than 100 years and will continue to be

the story. Some might suggest that the characters were placed in their place to deceive the audience.

but because who the ghost represented frightens her. Since the master left his own man in charge,
Quint thought he could get away with anything. Which he did because he used his lies to deceive the
head nanny, Miss Jessel, and probably sexually assaulted her as well. Once he had her under his

Relationship Between Greed And Grievance
What is the relationship between greed and grievance as motivating factors in violent conflict? Use at
least one case study to illustrate your argument
The greed and grievances theory provides opposing arguments as to what really are the causes for
violent conflict. Scholars have conducted numerous researches on a number of violent conflicts in
attempt to analyze to what extent greed or grievances appear to be motivating factors for violent
conflicts such as civil wars etc. Those who believe in the greed model trust that rebels draw out a cost

I will analyze the relationship between greed and grievances and the role they played in Sierra Leone s
civil war. I will argue also that violent conflicts do not always fall into either greed or grievances
perfectly and in most cases they go hand in hand. However in the case of Sierra Leone, although
legitimate grievances were evident, greed had a greater impact on sustaining the outbreak of the
conflict.
Greed and grievances are found to be two of the most crucial causes of most violent conflicts as well
as the driving forces of mass rebellion. In the case of Sierra Leone, a war that went on from 1991 to
2002 killing about 50,000 people and displacing almost two thirds of the total population is a great
example of a violent conflict that fits both the greed and grievance based explanation. At the time,
Sierra Leon was a country based on a one party system and dominated by the APC also known as the
All people s congress . During the APC regime there was great misuse of political power for the
parties personal gain. There appeared to be great decline of total output, neglect of agriculture,
increase in unemployment, deterioration and neglect of agriculture, increase in unemployment

democratic state, that guaranteed basic human rights, he did not keep his promising allowing the APC

Female Power, Maternity and Genderbending in...
Female Power, Maternity and Genderbending in Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra
The 19th century essayist and literary critic William Hazlitt wrote of Cleopatra, She is voluptuous,
ostentatious, conscious, boastful of her charms, haughty, tyrannical, [and] fickle, which are great and
unpardonable faults (Hazlitt 2 3). Much of the criticism of Antony and Cleopatra has recycled this
judgement, depicting Cleopatra as a villainess uses her eroticism and sexuality to motivate Antony to
seek power. Cleopatra is memorable for her propensity for violence as well. While Antony and
Cleopatra was written after the death of a violent English queen, Elizabeth I, Shakespeare may have
been faced with a dramatic dilemma: how to make a woman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The binary oppositions of masculine and feminine are thus personified by Caesar and Cleopatra, not
by Antony, whose men often regard him as the pawn of the deceptive queen and thus not a real man.
On the contrary, Robert Miola says, Caesar s sense of purpose and public responsibility directly
opposes Cleopatra s love of idleness and luxury (129), a conclusion supported by the fact that it is
Caesar who, after the deaths of Antony and Cleopatra, provides some closure to the political chaos
that has dominated the play.
Such an assertion that the danger of Cleopatra s sexuality lies in her Egyptian surroundings requires
further detail here. The Orient represented a strange, but terrifyingly fascinating world to the
Elizabethans. While it was decidedly inferior and politically weak, the Orient also held a dangerous
mystique. As Lucy Hughes Hallett attests, poets, playwrights, historians and artists have found the
idea of Cleopatra s foreignness, or otherness, a suitable method by which to explain away her
dangerous sexuality. In other words, the fact that Cleopatra effectively seduced and influenced two
powerful Roman men baffled Western thinkers who could only explain it by attributing it to her
foreignness or otherness. Not surprisingly, Shakespeare succumbs to a similar artistic temptation. In
the first ten lines of the play, the surrender of Roman dignity to Egyptian passion is made clear. Philo
regretfully tells Demetrius how

Belonging
Belonging is the relationship between an individual and his society, idealistically of one being in
harmony with their surrounding peers and therefore becoming accepted no matter what attributes they
possess. Belonging is an intrinsic need, it is a complex and variable state and in the end brings some
form of happiness to an individual. The film, Strictly Ballroom , produced by Baz Luhrman, focuses
upon the individual Scott who possesses the skills to win but defies the rules of the ballroom world by
adding unauthorised steps and by challenging the status quo. Similarly, The short story, A Straight Bat

towards Timothy, who is attempting to develop his own identity. Timothy s disapproval and rejection
of the bat is highlighted in the short, sharp sentences and the negative connotations of the words stared
, hard and heavy in the quote, Timothy stared hard at the cricket bat. It looked heavy . The negative
description of the bat illustrates his objection towards the interest and values in which his father
expects him to abide by. This reinforces the negativity that a sense of individuality can be removed
and affected by the expectations of belonging imposed by those around us.
The negative conformist nature to conform is represented through the use of the bat , symbolising the
need to conform in order to feel accepted. The metaphor quoted within George s quote, Everyone must
have his own bat , emphasises that each person must follow their own path in order to develop their
own identity. We realise that complying by the expectations of society is the first step to acquiring
acceptance. The destroying of the violin, represents Timothy s individuality and the ability to grow, is
halted and depleted as the expectations of his father to play cricket, is of more priority to his son s
desire. Roger Holt s use of this, just like Strictly Ballroom , reinforces the effect of the negativity of

including human resource management and organizational behavior, organizational leadership, and
organizational communication (Atwater Waldman, 2012, pp. 62). The book explicitly explains some
of the major areas that are usually difficult to or less understood in leadership. For instance, it outlines
concepts such as sending and receiving feedback during open communication (Atwater Waldman,
2012, pp. 14). This is a topic in leadership that is regarded as multifarious and difficult to understand,
as it causes exigent dilemmas even at managerial level. The book supports its arguments by citing
evidence based research, case examples, ideas, and practical suggestions. By doing so, it equips
current and future leaders with the necessary tools for preventing communication problems and
solving leadership dilemmas in their organizations. The book, based on its well supported content and
arguments, can be termed as a vital literary work that explains the concept of leadership in many
contexts. The book proceeds to support its arguments and suggestions on leadership with evidence
drawn from relevant psychological theories (Atwater Waldman, 2012, pp. 101). The book provides an
excellent and well researched review and discussion of the key characteristics of open communication.

General Biography Of Carl Gustav Jung
General Biography Carl Gustav Jung was born on July 26, 1875 in Kesswil, Switzerland, to the
parents of Paul Achilles Jung and Emile Preiswerk. His father was a rural pastor while his mother
suffered from depression and claimed to see spirits at night. This strained Jung s relationship with her
and therefore shaped his attitude toward women in general. Carl Jung was the youngest of four
children, but he was the only one who survived. He suffered from multiple personality disorder, and
was a very sad, lonely, and isolated child. In 1895, Carl Jung enrolled to the University of Basel to
study science and medicine. He graduated in 1900 with a medical degree. He then did an internship
under Eugen Bleuler at the Burgholzli Psychiatric clinic in Zurich. Jung studied the unconscious mind
during this internship. In 1902, he received his Ph.D. at the University of Zurich with a doctoral
dissertation On the Psychology and Pathology of So Called Occult Phenomena (Cowgil, 1997). Carl
Jung married Emma Rauschenberg in 1903 and they had four daughters and one son together. He did
not give any affection to his children and they were not allowed to hug or kiss him, they were only
allowed to shake hands (Schultz Schultz, 2016). Carl Jung was not faithful to his wife Emma
Rauschenberg because he had multiple affairs throughout their marriage.
They welcomed their first daughter, Agathe, into the world on December 28, 1904. Jung was then
offered a faculty job for psychiatry at the University of Zurich in 1905. He had read, The
Interpretation of Dreams, written by Sigmund Freud and enjoyed his work so much that he began to
write him letters in 1906. One year later Jung and Freud finally met. On February 8, 1906, Jung had
his second daughter, Gret. A couple of years later, he had his only son, Franz, on November 28, 1908.
In 1909, Jung started a private practice of psychoanalysis in Kuessnacht, this practice was kept up and
ran until Jung died. Carl Jung had his third daughter, Marianne, on September 20, 1910. In 1911, Jung
obtained the first president of the International Psychoanalytic association. He started to Lecture at

Essay On An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge
Death Is a Reality, No One Can Escape It
An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, directed by Robert Enrico, depicts an occurrence in the mind of
Peyton Farquhar. He is a civilian who tampers with the Union s railroad system and is going to be
hanged, and all he can think about is escaping and getting home to his wife. Unfortunately, death is a
reality and no one can escape it.
One of the first occurrences that is a reference to death is at the beginning of the movie. As stated by
the Sobchack s, In the opening sequence a man is being prepared for a military execution at dawn
(27). Most of the time dawn is thought of as signaling a new day and people are happy to have woken
up that morning, however, that is not the case for Peyton Farquhar because he is about to die.
Another detail of nature that is used to express this theme is the fact that the seasons keep changing. In
the introductory scene the trees are slightly barren like it is late fall, but after Peyton escapes it is
suddenly springtime. This is probably a detail put in by the director to emphasise that late fall and
early winter are usually depicted as the times that plants die. Mr. Enrico is also using the fact that

end of the tunnel there is light, but the end that Peyton is running towards is nothing but a dark void.
This is a hidden meaning in reference to what happens when people die and they say that their going

Analysis Of Didion s On Self Respect
In Didion s emotional yet dominant essay, On Self Respect, found in Slouching Towards Bethlehem,
she defines the true meaning of value to oneself, while indicating that reactions of weakness and
humiliation, based on the approval of bystanders, inhibits true acceptance. Her work was published in
1968 by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux to an American magazine Vogue, in a time when many intellectual
Americans believed they were standing at the dawn of the Golden Age. The emergence of The Human
Potential Movement, in the 1960s, would authorize full use of personal capacities, leading to self
actualization and fulfillment of pleasure. In today s society, many people find themselves
unsuccessful, according to the definition created by society, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As a result of this rejection, Didion developed the definition of self respect that we all accept, one
placing the opinion of others above her own. This personal and vulnerable memory included in the
essay marks a point in Didion s life where she encountered an unfair situation and began to struggle
with acceptance of self respect. Here, Didion dismisses the preconceived notion that she always held
full self respect for herself by labeling herself inferior to the sorority. Despite Didion s current
achievements for the popular Vanity Fair magazine, this personal anecdote shows failure, allowing
Didion to appeal to ethos and pathos. She does not intend for the audience to sympathize for her
shame, but to provide a personal example of the negative impact an ordinary individual can encounter
with the incorrect definition of self respect. Didion also displays credibility by re evaluating her own
level of self respect to relate with the audience as they develop this characteristic. Didion uses
inclusive pronouns such as, we and our, to once again highlight that she is relatable to the audience.
This allows for construction of Didion s character by displaying credibility by appearance of standard
individual, rather than a famous author and model. Didion s use of ethos allows her to present

Locke And His Theory Of Determination
Here is where I must depart from Locke and his theory of determination of the will according to pain
and pleasure. I think this is a difficult notion to be comfortable with and it should be. To use the
formula of pleasure minus pain equals happiness is in direct conflict with Christian teachings and the
common good of all people. Locke, being a self proclaimed Christian, is becoming less and less
Christian like as this book progresses, and I agree with Chappell when she stated that he was an
egotist and a hedonist, which are inconsistent with Christianity . He discounts the husbands that
sacrifice for their wives, the wives that sacrifice for their husbands, parents that sacrifice for their
children, siblings that sacrifice for each other, neighbors that sacrifices for neighbors, the priests that
sacrifice for the church and all people, people that sacrifice for God, and we can go on and on and on.
We are all meant to work toward the good of all and serve one another, but Locke overlooks this
higher good that far surpasses pleasure and pain. Locke says that every intelligent Bring really seeks
Happiness, which consists in the enjoyment of pleasure, without any considerable mixtures of

Stormbreaker Chapter 7 Analysis
Reading Chapter seven of Stormbreaker caused me to have a lot of mixed emotions. In the beginning,
I didn t see the point of the first paragraph so, of course, I reread it serval times. Because I read it
several times and still didn t understand, I started of reading chapter seven in confusion. As I got
closer towards the middle of the chapter, I wasn t confused at all. In fact, the less confused I was, the
more I liked it! There was only one thing I noticed that made this chapter stick out from the previous
chapters is, Alex s problem. When I first started reading, I was expecting for Alex to have a physical
problem, or at least a problem that can be easily solved. Instead, Alex had two emotional problems. I
don t usually give out compliments to people who I don t like that much, but I ... Show more content

At first, I had absolutely no idea the Alex was nervous until I reread and scrutinized the chapter, I
found serval places where he showed signs of nervousness and depression. The first time he showed
nervousness, was when he kept thinking of all the possibilities that could go wrong. Of all people, I
think that I would be the master at knowing nervousness. For example: At the end year of the 2014
2015 school year, we were assigned workbook pages worth a test grade. For everybody else this wasn
t a huge deal, but it was for me. I had an eighty in the class and my test average was high. That meant,
anything below a ninety five, would cause me to fail. If I failed, I wouldn t be allowed to come back to
Davidson! Since it was assigned, I couldn t do anything but think of the worst possibilities, just like
Alex. Just like Alex screwed up by blowing his cover, I screwed up by not answering a question, but
just like he covered it up, I did too. Except I got caught and received a ninety nine. Luckily, Alex hasn
t gotten caught and I hope he

1. Was the junior accountant s analysis correct? Why or why not?
No, the junior accountant s analysis is not correct in classifying the lease as an operating lease in
accordance with IFRS. Whether or not a lease is classified as a finance or an operating lease depends
on if all of the benefits as well as risks of ownership have been shifted from the lessor to the lessee.
According to IAS 17 10(d), a lease must be classified as a finance if either the lease term is for the
major portion of the asset s economic life or at the inception of the lease the present value of the
minimum payment amounts to at least substantially all of the fair value of the lease asset. With ...

He states, Since the lessee s incremental borrowing rate is greater than the lessor s implicit rate in the
lease, compute the present value of the minimum lease payments using the 11 percent rate. This is
wrong because IFRS does not permit the lessee to use the incremental rate if the implicate rate known.
He should have used %10 for his calculations. * At commencement of the lease term, finance leases
should be recorded as an asset and a liability at the lower of the fair value of the asset and the present
value of the minimum lease payments (discounted at the interest rate implicit in the lease, if
practicable, or else at the entity s incremental borrowing rate) [IAS 17.20] * PV of the minimum lease
payments = $100,000x2.4896 + $20,000 x 0.7513 = $263,716

German Nazi Concentration And Extermination Camp (1940-1945)
Auschwitz Birkenau
German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp (1940 1945) The United Nations Educational,
Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is committed to conserving and protecting the
naturally and culturally significant sites of the world. A world heritage site is a place that is culturally
or environmentally significant to the world. The World Heritage Convention, adopted by the General
Conference of UNESCO in 1972, puts together both the preservation of nature and the preservation of
sites that are culturally significant to society. The idea for this convention came after UNESCO was
involved in rescuing the Abu Simbel Temple in Egypt. The building of the Aswan High Dam
threatened to flood the valley and destroy the ancient temple. UNESCO launched an international
campaign to save the temple and the temple was eventually dismantled, moved, and reassembled in a
location safe from flooding. Fifty countries donated to the campaign, raising nearly half of the cost of
the operation. The convention was adopted a few years later so that the states parties could join
together to protect the world s natural and cultural heritage. The convention also provides access to the
World Heritage Fund to help fund the states efforts in identifying and preserving sites. ... Show more

Many people feel that the list encourages too many people to visit the sites and that the preservation of
them is in danger because of it. It is said that the commodification of these sites hampers a visitor s
ability to have an authentic experience and truly understand the importance of where they are.
Furthermore, commodification can also threaten indigenous culture by imposing modern concepts and

Drunk Driving Papers
DRUNK DRIVING
What s the harm? I got home safe. That is what most people say after drinking and driving, but what
they don t know is that approximately 10,839 people die each year due to drinking and driving
(Drinking, 2015) someone might have gotten home safe but maybe next time someone won t. Next
time someone might be the reason a person dies, or maybe you will be the one that dies. One out of
three people will be involved in an alcohol related crash in their lifetime. (Drinking,2015.) Driving
under the influence is normally called drunk driving. Drunk driving is when a person has more than .8
ounces of alcohol in their blood. If someone driving under the influence they ll most likely swerve
across the road and not know what s going on around them in the state of Mississippi one drink has
1.5 ounces of 80 proof liquor, 1.2 ounces of beer equals 4.5, and wine equals 5 ounces (drinking,
2015) at least 0.8 ounces, and a person will be arrested or get a DUI for drunk driving. If you get
arrested for drunk driving they will be in jail for 48 hours (Mississippi, 2015), and if you get a DUI

under the influence and they are in an accident that results in the death of their passenger or a person
in another vehicle, then them have committed vehicular homicide. If convicted they could face up to
25 years in prison. A simple night out with friend could be a fun night, but if they make bad choices it
could affect them for the rest of their life. Just because they want a drink don t get wasted. You can
have fun by dancing or talking or having one drink or two, but they don t have to have 5 or 10 drinks
to have a good time. Always remember that one bad choice could affect you for the life rest of your

probabilities 7 Calculation of expected payoff8 Relationship between the expected payoff and amount
of bid9 Introduction Decision analysis is an integral and powerful component in the decision making
process, and can be used to determine the optimal decision alternative according to the criterion set by
the business by objectively assessing the complicating factors and underlying issues of each decision.
In this case study, the analysis of the problems faced by Oceanview Development Corporation will

However, it should be noted that the probability that the zoning change will be approved, given that
the market research study predicts rejection, is only 0.05085. Hence, there is a high probability of
0.9492 that the zoning change is indeed rejected, given that the market research predicts rejection. In
such a scenario, whereby Oceanview conducts market research and rejection of the zoning change is
predicted, it is faced with an expected loss of $387,900.75 if it proceeds with the bid, and an expected
loss of $15,000 if it does not. Hence in this case, it will not focus on maximizing profits but on
minimizing loss. Hence it should not bid if market research predicts rejection, as this decision is more
likely to keep its loss at a minimum. To decide whether to employ market research, Oceanview should
consider the value of the market research information. If it conducts market research, the expected
value of its payoff is $28,992.50 higher than otherwise. Since the value of the market information is
positive, Oceanview should conduct the market research as it brings benefits. Hence, the optimal
strategy for Oceanview will be to conduct market research. If approval is predicted, it should then
proceed with the bidding, whereas if rejection is predicted, it should not bid. This will allow
Oceanview to either maximize profits, if approval of zoning change is predicted, or to minimize
losses, if rejection is predicted.

Strengths Strong brand reputation: Home Depot operates in nearly 2,250 locations in the United States

The foreign markets have significant opportunities for the growing civilizational and economy, which
favor the demand for modern home improvement products. Therefore, Home Depot should also
consider global expansion to spread their quality products and generate more sales and revenue. E
commerce; Home Depot can overcome the rising competition from the online firms through
expanding in e commerce. When the firm goes online, more customers will access its products and
services, and the websites will enable brand promotion. By 2014, Home Depot reported 1.2 billion
visits to its websites but most of the visitors were not turned into customers (Dalavagas, 2015). The
rise of immigrants; the rise of Hispanics in the United States is a national issue but an opportunity for
businesses. By 2017, the total purchasing power of immigrant populations was nearly $1.7 trillion
(Hawkins, 2015). However, with the steady rise in immigrant population, Home Depot can implement

  • 2. Evil Definition Essay Evil is immorality without reasonable justification. Evil is harming another for no reason other than personal satisfaction or achievement. Evil is the premeditated act of damage to another person, whether it s emotional, physical, or financial. In my opinion, pure evil isn t common. Looking at a criminal s past, for example, and seeing the decisions they faced, one is able to understand or even sympathize with their actions. This changes certain acts from evil to a label that s still horrid, but allows the public to comprehend the reasons behind the crime. Say, for instance, a woman of 40 murders her partner and young children. Many might call this woman evil. However, if we see that she s been suffering from schizophrenia and her insurance told her they wouldn t cover her new prescription, we start to understand how she was in an altered state of mind. Piling on stress and the extent of her illness, we see how she could have killed her family. This explanation exonerates her from the label of evil . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I grew up in a culture where my immediate family was democratic, and I went to an extremely liberal arts private school for 13 years. This is important; we have to humanize every defendant in court or they just become a number, and the criminal justice system has failed. I haven t had any personal experiences with evil. From a religious point of view, I m an agnostic but I was raised Jewish. I never believed in God, and I remember little of the teachings of Judaism. Therefore, being non religious has affected my view of evil in the sense that I don t believe in the conservative values of evil (homosexuality, for instance). • 3. Pope Gregory The Great Essay Is certainly one of the most notable figures in Ecclesiastical History. He has exercised in many respects a momentous influence on the doctrine, the organization, and the discipline of the Catholic Church. To him we must look for an explanation of the religious situation of the Middle Ages; indeed, if no account were taken of his work, the evolution of the form of medieval Christianity would be almost inexplicable. And further, in so far as the modern Catholic system is a legitimate development of medieval Catholicism, of this too Gregory may not unreasonably be termed the Father. Almost all the leading principles of the later Catholicism are found, at any rate in germ, in Gregory the Great. . (F.H. Dudden, Gregory the Great , 1, p. v). The preceding paper will examine the life and effect Pope Gregory (the Great) I had on medieval Christianity up to the present day. Through this exercise we flush out the efforts and work that Gregory to advance early Christendom. For many Protestant it seems to be controversial to look at the Pope as a positive influence on anything. Thus, the conclusion of this paper is the Pope Gregory is truly sitting in the presence of our Lord because of the work and faith he displayed on earth. Therefore, we will move past the argument of the Protestant and Catholic positions and look at the Gregory s record in helping strengthen and solidify a heterogeneous church during great upheaval, and ... In the end, I would have to concede to it, if I was trapped in a room with only the barrels of symbols and the rulebooks, I would not know the meaning of the Chinese symbols from simply arranging responses from these symbols. However; that does not mean that the argument is perfect. The premise that semantics cannot be derived from syntax alone can be challenged with an extension to the Chinese Room experiment. Let us assume that we put a digital computer into a robot, which has visual cameras, touch, taste, and smell sensors, and microphones to gain external data from the outside world, which would go into the computer as additional syntactical data. Let us also assume that the robot looks and acts like the average human, and also that each and every action that the robot takes is taken in the same way as the Chinese Room experiment, as syntactical data turning into new syntactical data due to the implementation of programs. Therefore, in the same respect as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However; since the reply is essentially an incomplete argument against Searle s argument, it is not a very devastating criticism. • 6. Why The Kiva System Has Become A Successful There are many reasons why the Kiva system has become very successful in delivering results to the companies who have made the investment of implementing it to their pick and packing stations. The concern with these station is that they are considered cost centers in the supply chain of a company. Labor is a huge part of the cost associated with these centers as well as the cost with expanding automated retrieval and storage systems. By improving the efficiency in this part of the value chain would mean huge savings for the company. Kiva systems are intended to improve efficiency, reduce power consumption, and essentially eliminate some processes necessary under the old method of pick and packing. Labor cost would be reduced by picking up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They would be more concerned in inventory space. Description of the Logistical Practice To better understand how the Kiva System works, one needs to understand how the need for the Kiva System was created. Warehouses play an important role in the supply chain from the manufacturer to the consumer. They serve as giant pick and packing centers. The product comes in usually in large pallets that are sold in bulk, but then they are broken down and either repackaged or organized to be stored at the warehouse. These distribution centers are considered cost centers because the work done at the facility add no inherent value to the product (Kamarthi). This means that all the cost is being placed on the company and not the consumer because it adds no value to the product. This would mean that it is really important for a company to keep the operational costs at a minimum by improving the accuracy of the distribution center high. The process of filling and order in a distribution center requires a few people, pickers, sorters, and packers. This means that a lot of money is tied up to labor. Another method the DC s use to make the process faster is by using automation processes such as conveyors and sorting equipment. These automation handling systems are very expensive and involve large design cycles that take 12 to 24 month to bring online (article citation). Another drawback is that once they are set, they are set in stone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Observation In Good Country People, By Flannery O Connor Observation In her story Good Country People, Flannery O Connor writes of Hulga Hopewell s unfortunate experience where her confidence in her intellect leads her to make wrong conclusions of other people s character. Living in self pity and despair after the accident that takes away her leg, Hulga Hopewell maintains a negative view of life, herself, and others around her. In the story, her mother, Mrs. Hopewell writes She grew less like other people and more like herself bloated, rude, and squint eyed (O Connor 487). However, she fails to realize that the man s behavior toward her during their walk together did not reflect the fruits of the spirit. As a result, she falls into the trap of letting him steal her heart and then her leg. The American Revolution heavily influenced this document, as the American people refused to have another tyrant rule their country. From 1781 to 1789 the Articles of Confederation provided the United States with an ineffective government because of its lack of power to tax, raise an army, or regulate trade; however, it redeemed itself with the creation of the land ordinances of 1785 and 1787, and keeping the states united after the American Revolution. This use of color builds a feeling of manipulation and unease, being distant and unfriendly. One such example is Will s first encounter with Sean, the psychologist. He is staring at a work of art that is suspended on the window and as he is looking at it, he is examining its artistic worth and Sean s life (Van Sant Bender, 1997). The nearer he gets to the image, the more frigid the light gets until the conclusion of the monologue when he is directly facing it and the sunlight produces an impression that is quite comparable to an overexposed photograph, which causes Will to look especially bizarre, and terrifying. This facet revolves less on entertainment, but rather is symbolic of a host opening their home as a place for a suppliant to rest and find asylum from the woes of travel. However, this incident had the opposite effect. The public s response to the Iran Contra affair led to a sharp decrease in the support of President Reagan. Due to President Reagan s role in the political scandal of aiding armed conflict in Nicaragua, the United States Congress used its constitutional power to investigate and check the role of the executive branch. The impact of this congressional oversight highlights the checks and balances the Founder s instilled in our political government during our nation s conception. Oliver North became an American obsession even though he was convicted of charges related to the affair, with the public making dolls, shirts, and even sandwiches as a tribute to him. It seemed as if the Iran Contra hearings were more of a last hurrah of the numerous Congressional hearings being held in Congress rather than evidence of the hearings efficacy. Compared to other hearings, the Iran Contra affair involved deeper partisan divides (Brown University). Party divides created conflict through the congressional hearings, with Republicans defending and supporting the administration and Democrats united in an attack against the administration. One of the minority members of the House Select Committee charged with investigating the Iran Contra affair, Bill McCollum, made this statement, Partisan bickering was the most distressing thing about the hearings. It got in the way of our purpose, which was to bring out the facts, to determine the President s credibility, and, finally, to recommend law and policy changes that reach far beyond these hearings (Brown University) Consequently, some blame can be placed on party divide as to why the public and government officials felt very little had been done to address the secrecy and blatant incompliance of law at a federal ... • 20. Portrayal Of Women In Persepolis Women in our society have been treated as a sideline, not included, and muted across our generations. In the graphic novel Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi shows religion and authority to portray that women in the text are marginalized, excluded, and silenced. This graphic novel takes place in Iran during the Islamic Revolution, which influenced a lot of how women were treated. The women in Persepolis are marginalized, excluded, and silenced by restricted communication, forbidden to wear what they want, and not always having control of their actions. Persepolis demonstrates women being marginalized, excluded, and silenced through restricted communication. Chaotic Japanese Internment Camps Chaotic Japanese Internment Camps I spent my boyhood behind the barbed wire fences of American internment camps and that part of my life is something that I wanted to share with more people, George Takei. While the death driven camps in Nazi Germany unleashed hatred to the Jewish population, the United States government used Japanese American Internment Camps to racially segregate, imprison, and punish Japanese Americans to eliminate the risk of a Japanese American doubling as a spy. Japanese Internment camp were labor camps scattered around the west coast of the US. These camps forced the compliance of Japanese Americans on the United States government, and limited their public knowledge of the war occurring at the time. On December 7, 1941, the ruthless, Japanese launched an attack on the US naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, killing 2,500 men, and destroying weaponry and war machines. This harsh attack made Japanese Americans seem like a threat to the government, and as a result, the US prosecuted and started the relocation of this ethnic group to avoid espionage. Japanese Americans are US citizens or aliens, that come from the island nation of Japan. These ethnics have come into the United States, usually to start a better life and to get away from the mass violence of the prolonging 15 year war in Japan. Female Power, Maternity and Genderbending in Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra The 19th century essayist and literary critic William Hazlitt wrote of Cleopatra, She is voluptuous, ostentatious, conscious, boastful of her charms, haughty, tyrannical, [and] fickle, which are great and unpardonable faults (Hazlitt 2 3). Much of the criticism of Antony and Cleopatra has recycled this judgement, depicting Cleopatra as a villainess uses her eroticism and sexuality to motivate Antony to seek power. The binary oppositions of masculine and feminine are thus personified by Caesar and Cleopatra, not by Antony, whose men often regard him as the pawn of the deceptive queen and thus not a real man. On the contrary, Robert Miola says, Caesar s sense of purpose and public responsibility directly opposes Cleopatra s love of idleness and luxury (129), a conclusion supported by the fact that it is Caesar who, after the deaths of Antony and Cleopatra, provides some closure to the political chaos that has dominated the play. Such an assertion that the danger of Cleopatra s sexuality lies in her Egyptian surroundings requires further detail here. The Orient represented a strange, but terrifyingly fascinating world to the Elizabethans. While it was decidedly inferior and politically weak, the Orient also held a dangerous mystique. As Lucy Hughes Hallett attests, poets, playwrights, historians and artists have found the idea of Cleopatra s foreignness, or otherness, a suitable method by which to explain away her dangerous sexuality. In other words, the fact that Cleopatra effectively seduced and influenced two powerful Roman men baffled Western thinkers who could only explain it by attributing it to her foreignness or otherness. Not surprisingly, Shakespeare succumbs to a similar artistic temptation. In the first ten lines of the play, the surrender of Roman dignity to Egyptian passion is made clear. His father was a rural pastor while his mother suffered from depression and claimed to see spirits at night. This strained Jung s relationship with her and therefore shaped his attitude toward women in general. Carl Jung was the youngest of four children, but he was the only one who survived. He suffered from multiple personality disorder, and was a very sad, lonely, and isolated child. In 1895, Carl Jung enrolled to the University of Basel to study science and medicine. He graduated in 1900 with a medical degree. He then did an internship under Eugen Bleuler at the Burgholzli Psychiatric clinic in Zurich. Jung studied the unconscious mind during this internship. In 1902, he received his Ph.D. at the University of Zurich with a doctoral dissertation On the Psychology and Pathology of So Called Occult Phenomena (Cowgil, 1997). Carl Jung married Emma Rauschenberg in 1903 and they had four daughters and one son together. He did not give any affection to his children and they were not allowed to hug or kiss him, they were only allowed to shake hands (Schultz Schultz, 2016). Carl Jung was not faithful to his wife Emma Rauschenberg because he had multiple affairs throughout their marriage. They welcomed their first daughter, Agathe, into the world on December 28, 1904. Jung was then offered a faculty job for psychiatry at the University of Zurich in 1905. He had read, The Interpretation of Dreams, written by Sigmund Freud and enjoyed his work so much that he began to write him letters in 1906. One year later Jung and Freud finally met. Essay On An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge Death Is a Reality, No One Can Escape It An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, directed by Robert Enrico, depicts an occurrence in the mind of Peyton Farquhar. He is a civilian who tampers with the Union s railroad system and is going to be hanged, and all he can think about is escaping and getting home to his wife. Unfortunately, death is a reality and no one can escape it. One of the first occurrences that is a reference to death is at the beginning of the movie. As stated by the Sobchack s, In the opening sequence a man is being prepared for a military execution at dawn (27). Most of the time dawn is thought of as signaling a new day and people are happy to have woken up that morning, however, that is not the case for Peyton Farquhar because he is about to die. Another detail of nature that is used to express this theme is the fact that the seasons keep changing. In the introductory scene the trees are slightly barren like it is late fall, but after Peyton escapes it is suddenly springtime. This is probably a detail put in by the director to emphasise that late fall and early winter are usually depicted as the times that plants die. Here, Didion dismisses the preconceived notion that she always held full self respect for herself by labeling herself inferior to the sorority. Despite Didion s current achievements for the popular Vanity Fair magazine, this personal anecdote shows failure, allowing Didion to appeal to ethos and pathos. She does not intend for the audience to sympathize for her shame, but to provide a personal example of the negative impact an ordinary individual can encounter with the incorrect definition of self respect. Didion also displays credibility by re evaluating her own level of self respect to relate with the audience as they develop this characteristic. Didion uses inclusive pronouns such as, we and our, to once again highlight that she is relatable to the audience. I think this is a difficult notion to be comfortable with and it should be. To use the formula of pleasure minus pain equals happiness is in direct conflict with Christian teachings and the common good of all people. Locke, being a self proclaimed Christian, is becoming less and less Christian like as this book progresses, and I agree with Chappell when she stated that he was an egotist and a hedonist, which are inconsistent with Christianity . He discounts the husbands that sacrifice for their wives, the wives that sacrifice for their husbands, parents that sacrifice for their children, siblings that sacrifice for each other, neighbors that sacrifices for neighbors, the priests that sacrifice for the church and all people, people that sacrifice for God, and we can go on and on and on. We are all meant to work toward the good of all and serve one another, but Locke overlooks this higher good that far surpasses pleasure and pain. Locke says that every intelligent Bring really seeks Happiness, which consists in the enjoyment of pleasure, without any considerable mixtures of uneasiness . I see two ways to read this excerpt. Because I read it several times and still didn t understand, I started of reading chapter seven in confusion. As I got closer towards the middle of the chapter, I wasn t confused at all. In fact, the less confused I was, the more I liked it! There was only one thing I noticed that made this chapter stick out from the previous chapters is, Alex s problem. When I first started reading, I was expecting for Alex to have a physical problem, or at least a problem that can be easily solved. Instead, Alex had two emotional problems. I don t usually give out compliments to people who I don t like that much, but I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first, I had absolutely no idea the Alex was nervous until I reread and scrutinized the chapter, I found serval places where he showed signs of nervousness and depression. The first time he showed nervousness, was when he kept thinking of all the possibilities that could go wrong. Of all people, I think that I would be the master at knowing nervousness. For example: At the end year of the 2014 2015 school year, we were assigned workbook pages worth a test grade. For everybody else this wasn t a huge deal, but it was for me. I had an eighty in the class and my test average was high. That meant, anything below a ninety five, would cause me to fail. If I failed, I wouldn t be allowed to come back to Davidson! Since it was assigned, I couldn t do anything but think of the worst possibilities, just like Alex. Just like Alex screwed up by blowing his cover, I screwed up by not answering a question, but just like he covered it up, I did too. Except I got caught and received a ninety nine. Luckily, Alex hasn t gotten caught and I hope he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

No, the junior accountant s analysis is not correct in classifying the lease as an operating lease in accordance with IFRS. Whether or not a lease is classified as a finance or an operating lease depends on if all of the benefits as well as risks of ownership have been shifted from the lessor to the lessee. According to IAS 17 10(d), a lease must be classified as a finance if either the lease term is for the major portion of the asset s economic life or at the inception of the lease the present value of the minimum payment amounts to at least substantially all of the fair value of the lease asset. He states, Since the lessee s incremental borrowing rate is greater than the lessor s implicit rate in the lease, compute the present value of the minimum lease payments using the 11 percent rate. This is wrong because IFRS does not permit the lessee to use the incremental rate if the implicate rate known. He should have used %10 for his calculations. * At commencement of the lease term, finance leases should be recorded as an asset and a liability at the lower of the fair value of the asset and the present value of the minimum lease payments (discounted at the interest rate implicit in the lease, if practicable, or else at the entity s incremental borrowing rate) [IAS 17.20] * PV of the minimum lease payments = $100,000x2.4896 + $20,000 x 0.7513 = $263,716 Lastly, the senior accountant ... German Nazi Concentration And Extermination Camp (1940-1945) Auschwitz Birkenau German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp (1940 1945) The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is committed to conserving and protecting the naturally and culturally significant sites of the world. A world heritage site is a place that is culturally or environmentally significant to the world. The World Heritage Convention, adopted by the General Conference of UNESCO in 1972, puts together both the preservation of nature and the preservation of sites that are culturally significant to society. The idea for this convention came after UNESCO was involved in rescuing the Abu Simbel Temple in Egypt. The building of the Aswan High Dam threatened to flood the valley and destroy the ancient temple. UNESCO launched an international campaign to save the temple and the temple was eventually dismantled, moved, and reassembled in a location safe from flooding. Fifty countries donated to the campaign, raising nearly half of the cost of the operation. The convention was adopted a few years later so that the states parties could join together to protect the world s natural and cultural heritage. The convention also provides access to the World Heritage Fund to help fund the states efforts in identifying and preserving sites. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it should be noted that the probability that the zoning change will be approved, given that the market research study predicts rejection, is only 0.05085. Hence, there is a high probability of 0.9492 that the zoning change is indeed rejected, given that the market research predicts rejection. In such a scenario, whereby Oceanview conducts market research and rejection of the zoning change is predicted, it is faced with an expected loss of $387,900.75 if it proceeds with the bid, and an expected loss of $15,000 if it does not. Hence in this case, it will not focus on maximizing profits but on minimizing loss. Hence it should not bid if market research predicts rejection, as this decision is more likely to keep its loss at a minimum. To decide whether to employ market research, Oceanview should consider the value of the market research information. If it conducts market research, the expected value of its payoff is $28,992.50 higher than otherwise. Since the value of the market information is positive, Oceanview should conduct the market research as it brings benefits. Hence, the optimal strategy for Oceanview will be to conduct market research. If approval is predicted, it should then proceed with the bidding, whereas if rejection is predicted, it should not bid. This will allow Oceanview to either maximize profits, if approval of zoning change is predicted, or to minimize losses, if rejection is predicted. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
