Bandon Group, Inc
Assignment 3 Paper Enterprise Resource Management CIS 511 Dr. S. Huber March 1, 2013
Determine feasibility of an ERP system: Bandon Group, Inc., is in the process of researching whether
it would be feasible to integrate an ERP system with its company and offsite locations. There are a few
unanswered questions as to if Brandon Group should pursue an ERP and CRM solutions in order to
meet the company goals and its needs. To address the question, Bandon group should most definitely
pursue an ERP and a CRM solution for its company. Bandon should first pursue an ERP solution as
CRM solutions can be easily integrated within an ERP environment (Trak. In, 2010). Key findings in

The SAP/ERP package can contain software for Human resources including accounting/payroll

information, providing e business related services such as the use of online bill pay/inquires, using
electronic media to contact existing customers, and election web based information services for
customers will help Bandon improve business operations and its customer support if the company uses
SAP for its ERP package (SAP, n.d.). In reference to SAP under a CRM package for Bandon Group,
the CRM package that could be used to meet the company s needs is the SAP 360 Customer package.
The SAP 360 Customer package is a CRM based package that would enable Bandon Group to gain a
competitive advantage by allowing them to engage with their customers anywhere at any given time;
whether it s online, in person, or even on a mobile device such as a phone, laptop, or tablet. Not only
would the company be able to keep track of all its customers, but it gives them the opportunity to
provide the ultimate customer service as they would immediately be available for the customers to

Why People Wear Seatbelts
Deciding what to compose my essay of was no easy task. As a sixteen year old girl, many things today
anger or irritate me. I have a different outlook on life than most people, therefore, things that might
not bother the average teen girl infuriate me. After reflecting on the subject for a long time, I finally
came to the conclusion that nothing bothers me more than when people don t wear seat belts whenever
they operate or ride in a vehicle. Maybe it s perhaps because I have seen many wonderful people pass
away simply because they couldn t click their seat belt or maybe it s because wearing a seat belt is
logical, but some people still don t seem to understand. In today s modern world, there are a lot of
inventions that help make our life easier and safer. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Something that irritates me is when people, who obviously know right from wrong, don t use their
seatbelts. There s a reason why not wearing a seatbelt is illegal and enforced in most states. The
leading cause of death among is teens is vehicle accidents. In 2012 it was reported that in half of the
deaths, the person was no not wearing any type or restraint or seatbelt. Meaning 33,000 people died
and another 2.2 million were injured. This has a consequence and as a teenager myself, it makes me
sad to think that kids, just like me, had their life cut short. Many of them could ve went to college,
pursue a career, become the world s future doctors, businessmen, and leaders. Most people don t know
what they re risking when they don t buckle up. In addition to the tragedy

Femininity In The Hunger Games
Persuade your reader that The Hunger Games either is or is not a feminist text Throughout history
society has constructed the views of femininity to mean maternity, in the first few pages of The
Hunger Games it is suggested that Katniss natural instincts are protect Prim in every way I can (18).
Katniss voluntary tribute at the reaping was to protect Prim re defin[ing], consciously or

Katniss description defamiliarizes her mother as a person, she is just a physical shell of what used to
be her mother. Her mother s actions, alongside the political system not providing necessities are
imposing this maternal instinct which she carries through the novel. Mothering acts are political
choices, as society is slowly stripping away her ability to be cared for and to care for others as a result
of this Katniss had to harden as a person and lacks the emotional range that females stereotypically
have (Garriot, 156). When Katniss first meets Rue it s impossible not to think of a bird she sees her

Whale Rider Culture
Good Morning year 8, today I am going to be talking to you about Maori culture and what I have done
in the film whale rider to try and show the culture using different film techniques. In scene one it starts
of as we have the little girl walking along the road chanting a traditional Maori chant and doing the
actions that represent the song. I have used an eye level shot as it clearly shows her whole upper body
and the actions can be clearly seen. To get to the next clip I use a cut as it is the same scene but from a
different angle. The angle has the girl positioned far away but still In focus with the background
blurred suggesting that I want you to focus on the girl. The next scene you see a Maori figure from a
story and you have it filmed at an low angled shot, this emphasis the figure and as it is painted a
darker colour it stand out against the light background. As it zooms out on the shed you see some
designs that are Maori culture patterns that represent the whale rider and the story of Pakei.

that she wants to do something for her grandfather. Paikea is narrating the part of the story and saying

what has happened. When Paikea rises from the water you can see that she clearly see she has an

Proper positioning of patient is one of the most significant components of physical therapy. Safe and
comfortable position is recommended by health care professional. This process should apply
immediately after accident and continue during all phases of recovery. Suitable positioning assists in
stimulating motor function, raises sensory awareness, improve respiration and can help normal range
of motion in trunk and extremities. One of the most important effects of positioning is to prevent
pressure ulcers. Mostly patients lie on back, involved side of non affected side. The body points that
should be considered are shoulder and pelvis. Gluteus maximus and rhomboid muscles become stiff

morally wrong, but Lincoln personally felt that black did not deserve equal treatment of whites. As
Lincoln wanted to bring the south back to Union, and that is why he had begun his plan for this with
the Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction while Forrest wanted no more than just to fight for
the Confederacy as a private, but because Forrest had raised the troops himself, Forrest ends up to

southerners for freeing slaves and unfavored by north because they don t trust him, most of them

Infertility Treatment
Stress can be broadly defined as any external and internal events that affects an organism s well being.
In attempt to maintain homeostasis, the body will respond to the psychological stress by modifying
physiological processes (Nargund, 2015). Psychological stress is a number of emotional events that
interrupts homeostasis. The disruption of homeostasis can affect many biological systems, such as
metabolism, vascular function, tissue repair, nervous system and reproductive system. Both emotional
and physical stress can have a negative impact on human reproductive function (Cousineau, 2007;
Jakobovits et al, 2002). Therefore, it is very important to know how to cope with stress when
experiencing life events that are very stressful. My presentation ... Show more content on

Infertility can be curable through treatments, but going through infertility treatment can be very
challenging. There are two factors that can cause an increase on stress level of someone who s going
through infertility treatment: cost and time. These two factors can add to the stress level of couple
whose experiencing infertility. Stress or anxiety can negatively affect the treatment of infertility, and
can put the pregnancy at risk. Also any before and after psychological illness may affect fertilization
therapy. However, it is recommended to go through psychotherapeutic treatment while going through
infertility treatment. There are many researches supporting this idea and a lot of focus on different
psychotherapeutic interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Another important factor
regards the social support a patient gets from the partner, family and friends and the role that plays on
reducing stress during infertility treatment. Researchers suggested that social support from partner,
family and friends play a role on reducing infertility related stress, also and couples with social
support are more likely to go through infertility treatment successfully. However, partner support
shows the greatest association with the overall findings for both men and women experiencing
infertility (Martins, 2014; Greil at al.,

Essay On Strong Interest Inventory
Everyone has their own interests and values that they would like to pursue and continue to follow
throughout their life. Although many people share common characteristics in interests, we are all our
own different individuals which can be demonstrated in our personality and choices. The Strong
Interest Inventory, SII, depicts these difference by assigning individuals a code based on the decisions
made on the test. The code assigned to me was AIS, which means that my top three themes were
artistic, investigative and social, in that order. In all honesty, I was not surprised by my results because
they were almost identical to the code I received when I took the Kuder assessment back in UNI 150.
Back then I got a tie between my social and art, but still had investigative so I had a code of S/AI. I
think the code of AIS describes me well due to my love of the arts really taking a big part of me
personally, along with my strong level of knowledge in math and science. Although I am not the most
social individual, I do enjoy working with people, even with my introvertness. Overall, this code
encompasses me perfectly and for me to get it twice in a row says that my interests and values are
consistent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

pathologist. For the most part, both assessments reflected my strong interest in the artistic and social
aspect of things as reflected with the careers of teachers, graphic designers, therapists and
pathologists. All these suggested careers correlate quite accurately with my AIS code, which is to no
surprise because all these careers are some I considered before, with the exception of speech

The greeks, between the eighteenth century and early nineteenth century, fought for independence

Europe was hardly invoked at all. The cries for freedom from that home of ancient democracy excited
liberals throughout Europe, and early demonstration of the power of nationalist movements that would
be repeated throughout the century. By 1827, British and French fleets intervened to support the Greek

Media s Influence On The Socialization Of A Child
As media technology now offers various ways to access TV contents, such as on the Internet, cell
phones and iPad, it leads children to spend more time watching animations and movies. According to
a Kaiser family foundation study, 8 10 year old children expose average 7 hours 51 minutes to media
in a typical day. 11 14 year old children and 15 18 year old children spend average 11 hours in a day.
(Victoria et al.) Children thoroughly perceive and accept the concepts from media, so it is the
powerful medium and cramming education method that control consciousness and create the
imitation. Animations and movies, as the most accessible media, significantly have an effect on the
process of socialization of children to form personality traits and the concept of the gender.
Gender has been portraying stereotypically for a long period in the history of media. Media plays a
very vital role in the socialization of a child or even adult, through different the storyline, characters
and dramatization of different genders through different theme and portrayals. Traditionally, media
have broadened the representation of male. In the presence of male and female characters in animated

The Death Of The Boy
Once, a very long time ago, a boy lived happily with his mother. The boy was chubby and small; he
had very dark hair and extremely large glasses; he seemed to be a flibbertigibbet, an oddball child with
a very introverted outlook on life along with knowledge beyond his years. He and his mother were but
simple Dysart folk that brought no harm to anyone, but harm unfortunately came their way in the form
of the mother becoming very ill with a stroke. This caused a great deal of difficulty for the boy as his
persistently inebriated older brother, Stephen, whom he hoped he would not have to live with, had to
become his sole custodian. The boy was only eleven when this terrible thing happened.

walked to the reception desk nervously and asked the receptionist where he could find any books on
magic and ceremonies. To this the receptionist replied with a strong Geordie accent, You think we d av
books on that crap in ere? Hmm... you know what, take a look in the corner beside them religious
books, you know the Bible and all that.
The boy nodded and then walked briskly, yet silently, towards the Religious section of the library.
There he found books on Satanism, Buddhism and Atheism, and finally he came across a book on
Devout Paganism with Reference to the Deil. The boy took this book to the reception to borrow it.
Wearily, he handed over his library card and dropped the monolithic volume on the desk in front of the
receptionist; the dust covering the book flew up and surrounded the boy and the receptionist in a fog
whilst the sound reverberated around the whole library causing a disruption to everyone. The boy
coughed cautiously as he lifted the book and walked away staring down at the floor.

The Representation Of The Speaking Model
The speaking model also addresses the norms of an event, the norms address the shoulds and the
should nots that can occur at a wedding. Although every bride and groom follows not each of these
practices, there are many norms to a wedding held in America. Many norms followed start even
months or years before the ceremony takes place. It all starts with choosing a date. This forms the base
for your entire wedding; it defines what colors to use, what materials to wear, if guests can attend, and
many other factors. Invitations are they sent out to all guests. Prior to the invitations, guests are chosen
wisely to stay within budget. Some brides and grooms will allow their dates to bring a plus one or
their own date, depending on the couple. Normally, there will be a pre written and stamped envelope
with the return address for RSVPs (respond s il vous plait). A card in the envelope will allow you to
choose whether you are attending or declining the invitation, bringing a guest, and what entree you
would like on the day of the wedding. The couple now gets to decide on the little details of their
wedding: where it will be located, the decorations and color scheme, what food will be served, and
who will be on their bridal party. From there on, full wedding planning will be in effect. Wedding
attire is very important to most colors. Men generally wear suits or tuxedos, and the women usually
wear dresses that go with the color scheme. The bride now can pick out what she wants to

For the past ten years, Repticon Reptile and Exotic Animal Conventions have toured America,
traveling to cities displaying a wide gamut of exotic pets with hopes of informing potential owners
about the benefits of owning one (Repticon). Because I have never obtained an affinity for exotic
animals, I was confident Repticon would ensure my uneasiness and feelings of being an outsider. As I
approached the front door, I was greeted by a gigantic, inflatable snake that welcomed eager attendees,
much like a theater shows previews to excited audiences waiting to see a movie. My uneasiness
immediately set in. Once I entered the open, airy room, I was stamped with a turtle on my hand. There
was no turning back now. The room had no prominent smell (to my surprise) and was filled with

participants. For example, some tables displayed actual reptiles, amphibians, arachnids (yikes!), and

living our lives happily. Irresponsible people tend to lean towards all negative sides of being
responsible they are really hard to rely on and to be trust. Parents tend to trust children who can take
care of themselves and know what s right and wrong. Bosses love employees that are dependable and
always trustworthy. Li Hongzhang (1823 1901) died in the age of 78 in Beijing, having 3 spouse Lady
Zhou, Zhao Xiaolian, Lady Mo. Li, having three jobs Official, general, diplomat. Li Hongzhang who
still is respected today showed immense amount of responsibility through how hard he worked just to
modernize China, intervene on the behalf of the Boxer Rebellion and all the other wars; Li was trusted
by the Imperial Palace, nevertheless there were events that illustrated how he failed to show
responsibility that the Palace had in him because of the Beiyang War and how everyone thought he
was doing it only for himself not

Kids Must Do More Than Recite the Pledge of Allegiance Essay
Children in the United States go through many years of school reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, but
does it encourage loyalty in their nation or fear of it? The years that I spent in school reciting the
pledge did little to instill patriotism in me.
I do not even remember the words to it. Having a more hands on approach to community involvement
would be a better way to teach children pride for their country. Encourage children to be concerned
about their school, neighborhood, city and nation by letting them be a part of their community. It is the
job of not just schools, but also the parents to play a part in showing the next generation what true
devotion to their country is all about. True patriotism is the selfless giving of oneself ... Show more

Reciting the pledge doesn t prove loyalty and refusal to recite it doesn t prove treason. We should take
it for granted that our children love their country and nurture those ideas rather than make them recite
an unnecessary, therefore meaningless pledge.
I wish that my parents and my school did more to show me what true patriotism was instead of just
teaching me to blindly recite the Pledge of Allegiance without asking why it was done, or what it
meant. I think that if they would have encouraged me to be a part of my community, I would have
more loyalty to my nation today. I would want the greater good for my country more so than I do now.
Community service is a fantastic technique to show children that there is more to their world than their
own backyard. Encourage them to get involved with or even plan community events such as helping
to paint over graffiti in their neighborhood, cleaning up trash after an event, or help repair a run down
playground. Children may complain about spending their Saturday working rather than playing a
video game or staring at a mind numbing television set all day, but the lessons that they will learn and
the way they feel after the event will be beyond compare. Chances are, they will feel so strongly about
their newly found pride in what they have accomplished, they will continue to do bigger and better
things to show pride in their community.
The next generation can make a vast change in the world with

I Don t Believe There
I don t believe there is one person in this room that doesn t want the same thing a quality education for
their love ones. Isn t that the reason we re all here. Isn t that what we re all fighting for, Miriam asked
the crowd as she walked forward. Lowering her voice she continued to speak, How can I deny my
nieces the right to go to a school simply because they live in a different neighborhood? I recently read
an article of these two gifted straight A students who are only nine years old, and are slated to be
featured at Madison Square Garden in a few months. They attend one of the Academy s we are talking
about. Are these the kinds of students we re trying to keep out of the school my father longed to build?
Some of you may want that, but I don t, Miriam said. She stood in front of Clara as they both stared
into each other s eyes. I ve been so foolish, she whispered. The room stood still with the only noise
coming from the news reporters scurrying about capturing every word. There, now you see, the mayor
said, as he eased his way into the conversation. I have been successful bringing these two sides
together just as I expected, he said, clasping his hands. Oh, sit down, Mildred demanded. No, you sit
down. In fact, why don t you excuse yourself from this committee, permanently. he whispered,
wrapping his hand around the microphone.
Mildred clutched her chest.

Essay on The Evolution of Speech
The Evolution of Speech
The purpose of this essay is to identify the evolutionary evidence of speech. The articles reviewed in
this paper affirm the evidence of evolution of speech. Much is unknown about the evolution of speech,
however, fossil evidence points to adaptations for speech appearing between 1.5 million and 500,000
years ago. Fossil evidence for the evolution of speech is shown in the earliest hominins to one of our
well known ancestors, the homo erectus. There are differences between bone structure and hard tissues
of living modern humans to those of chimpanzees and bonobos (Boer, 2005). Speech is a unique trait
that only humans so far have developed. This trait was most likely a prerequisite for the development

Figure 1
As seen, the human larynx is lower than that of the apes. The larynx in most mammals is usually
located high enough to be used in the nasal passages, enabling simultaneous breathing and
swallowing. This development can also be seen in small infants. As humans age, the larynx begins to
slowly descend down to its final position in its adult stage, which it reaches in three to four years
(Fitch, 2000). A similar descent of the larynx most likely occurred over the course of human evolution.
Speech itself cannot be fossilized, however there are anatomical adaptations that are related to speech
that have been fossilized. Although the soft tissue of the vocal tract does not fossilize well, there is one
bone in the larynx that does fossilize well, the hyoid bone. This bone appears to be the same bone in
Neanderthals just as in those found in modern humans (Abry, 1998). Although it is difficult to find
evidence of speech, other sources of evidence have become available that demonstrate the absence or
presence of speech. Increased tongue movements and control are needed for speech and it is expected
that the nerves of the tongue and the diaphragm are larger in humans than in of other species,
providing help with the articulation of speech (Arby, 1998). As the nerves pass through the canals in
skulls, this can be measured by the size of the relevant holes in

Taoism
Taoism
Taoism is a religion as well as a philosophy that can be dated all the way back to around 500 B.C. It is
one of the two dominant religions in China. Taoism is also termed Daoism in the more common
language system, called Hanyu Pinyin, representing Chinese letters using Roman letters and is more
commonly used amongst China and around the world.

A sage is one who is simple, tranquil, very open to life, intelligent, and reserved. He is not arrogant
and careless to such political affairs, does not seek fame, and does not discriminate opposites but
embraces them. The sage is indifferent to success or failure. He understands that life driven by self
centered ambition will never make sense, no matter how successful you are or with how many positive
externals you care to adorn it. When one does not let nature take its course, one may fail. He
understands that one may very much succeed but also has the ability to very much fail. To be a sage is
to be a man of peace. One avoids conflict, and steers away from violence. One is not intimidated of
death nor does one fear death. Life itself acquires meaning only when one satisfies ones spiritual
needs by living in total harmony with the Tao. He must seek Supreme Ultimate which is the sum of all
specific principles. The Supreme Ultimate really is nothing within itself, but concentration of
responsiveness to principle as it is immanent and real in the affairs of daily life. So to become a sage

Sumer People Research Paper
Sumerians... an ancient civilisation that most of you have probably never heard of. They were a nation
of people settled in Southern Mesopotamia which, is modern day Iraq and Kuwait. Not only are these
people one of the oldest civilisations in human history, with their existence dating back to 5000 BCE,
but they re influence on our lives today, 7000 years later, is incredible. The Sumer people were the
first to create a written language in 3500 3000 BCE, 2000 years before the ancient Chinese. They were
the first to enforce the idea of a set time for a work day, there is evidence to suggest they invented the
wheel, and are even responsible for time itself. The Sumer people divided day and night into 12 hours
each consisting of 60 minutes with each minute consisting of 60 seconds, a method of time that is still
used to this day. Apart from these incredible advancements in early human history, the Sumer people

Ethics And Principles Of Ethics
Ethics is a system basic moral principals and concepts of civilized human conduct. it helps us develop
ideas about what is moral, right from wrong and dictates of conscience. Ethics also helps to
distinguish between honest and dishonest characteristics in people. In business, ethics is something
that is essential to one s moral compass. It is something that is taught through the child rearing process
and into a child s formative years. Ethics requires knowledge. Fundamentally this suggests that
learning is required for one to have develop their own set of ethics, be it good or bad.
Through out the formative years or, child rearing process, parents promote and support their children
from infancy to adulthood. This suggests, they teach their own personal ethics to the children they
rear. According to the philosopher Socrates, ethics can be taught. He argues that, ethics consists of
what we ought to do, and such knowledge can be taught . As children s minds develop, they learn
obedience to the law of land from their parents, teachers, and authority figures in their life. However,
they only act in terms of these authority figures. Psychologist Lawrence Kohlberg established the idea
that the ability of moral thinking does not form simultaneously. It develops in children in stages, the
same way there are stages of growth and physical development. According to Kholberg, there are
three levels of moral development: pre conventional morality, conventional morality, and

Mutations In The MSX1 Case Study
Mutations in the MSX1 gene cause a variety of diseases. Mutations hit different sites on msx1 that
resulted in different phenotypes. It has been identified some mutations locations such as in frame
mutations, including 18 missense mutations and truncating mutations, including 5 nonsense mutations,
5 indel mutations, 1 splice variant, 1 nonstop variant, and 1 entire gene deletion. Farther, some of
these mutations disturb the homeodomain and some don t but located in N terminus protein. The indel
mutations and the missense mutations severely disturb the DNA binding domain (4). These mutations

Another type is oligodontia, which is six or more, represented by 0.1%. They analyzed three
generations of tooth agenesis Japanese family by using whole exome sequencing (WES). They found
that a novel single nucleotide substitution in the MSX1 intron which makes splicing occurs at 7bp
instead of the normal splicing site which is the exon 2, resulting a C terminal truncated gene product .
This substitution is inserted between the positions 451 and 452. It is worth notice that insertion is (3).
Another study conducted in Japan family with non syndromic tooth agenesis. The authors identified a
novel frameshift mutation by using mice with CRISPR/Cas system. The mutation occurred in a highly
conserved C terminal domain of MSX1, (MH6). Homozygous mice at E16.5 showed agenesis of
lower incisors with or without cleft palate. 4 week old mutant mice showed agenesis of the upper third
molars and the lower second and third molars. Besides, the upper second molars were small (12).
Furthermore, a study involved six Japanese families with non syndromic tooth agenesis. There was a
novel nonsense mutation in exon 1 in a family with oligodontia. This mutation made a termination
codon in the first exon, which led to truncated W139X at the C terminus and no homeodomain MH4.
Missing MH4 resulted in losing DNA binding, protein protein interaction, and nuclear localization

Using Islamic Banks, Commercial Banks And Dual Banks
We conduct a raft of additional tests to ensure the robustness of our findings. First, our sample consists
of Islamic banks, commercial banks and dual banks, thus to ascertain how MLG work among the three
categories, we re run equation (1) by separating the sample to three sub samples: Islamic banks (IBs);
commercial banks (CBs); and dual banks (DBs). The results reported in models 2, 3, 4 in Table 6 and

these findings indicates that our results are robust whether RDI is un weighted or weighted. Finally,

Protectionism In Australia
On this week s issue of Historians Weekly we re finally going to be starting up our new and
anticipated series Policies of Aboriginal Australia . To start us off I will be looking at the policy of
protectionism and why it was replaced by the policy of Assimilation. The policy of protectionism was
introduced in 1869 and ended in 1937. The policy was established with the mindset of protecting
aboriginal people from white people due to the assumption that they were dying out. This is known as
Social Darwinism, people back then believed that the superior race (whites) would strive forward and
the inferior race (blacks) would eventually die out. The policy of protectionism gave police the power
to separate families and force Aboriginal people to live on reserves, missions or stations. The terrible
living conditions they were forced to live in caused a lot of physical as well as psychological damage
and because of this they did eventually start dying out to an extent. ... Show more content on

Each reserve was controlled by a white manager, or by the local police. The managers had complete
control over the lives of the Aboriginal people on the reserves, they basically owned them. They had
no citizenship rights, anything that Aboriginal people owned or earned came underneath the manager s
control. In some States the managers had more control than others, but normally the reserves were
more like a prison or labour camp than a home. Disease and the frontier war had so destroyed the
Indigenous population of Australia that it was believed Aboriginal people were dying out. The
reserves were seen as places for them to die in peace and comfort. The truth of the matter was that the
Indigenous population did not die out, it began to grow again. On the reserves they were now safe
from attacks by white settlers, but this

Protests In The NFL Protests
For the past year, several NFL players have decided to take a knee during the national anthem. This all
started last year when Colin Kaepernick, Quarterback of San Francisco 49ers, sat during the national
anthem. He claimed that he did this because of the oppression of African Americans in the country.
Various other players from different teams joined Kaepernick, together with his protest. Now, this
protest has gotten larger, at week 3 of the NFL games there were more than 130 players and even an
anthem singer were protesting. President Donald Trump has gotten involved in these protests by going
against the players. Trump has stated that these players need to be fired, as well as the public needs to
boycott the NFL. Millions of people in the United States are extremely furious with these protests for
disrespecting the country, nevertheless the players till protest. These protests have caused a major
division problem in the US, so this will share why these protests aren t what people feel they are. First
of all, many people believe that these protests are about disrespected the anthem in addition to the
country. But, These players aren t trying to disrespect the country; they re trying to peacefully protest
police treatment of African Americans in America. When this all began Colin Kaepernick used to sit
on the bench during the anthem, until a former NFL player as well a veteran, Nate Boyer, told
Kaepernick that there was a better way to do this. So, Kaepernick

Functionalism And Its Impact On Physical Body Essay
In the philosophy of mind, there are many theories that try to resolve the mind body problem. That is,
how does the mental or consciousness interact with our physical body? Do they interact at all? Are
they two separate entities or one in the same? Many theories try to answer these types of questions,
but the one I will be focusing on is role functionalism. When mentioning functionalism throughout, I
will be referring to role functionalism. Functionalism is a theory that says mental states can be defined
by their function. So, we can identify mental states with their functional states. We can come to know
the function of a mental state through examining its inputs, outputs, and relation to other mental states.
I will show how this theory is correct by comparing it to the identity theory. I will begin by clarifying
a few important terms in relation to functionalism, lay out the theory, and then present an objection.
Lastly, I will present a possible functionalist reply to the objection and conclude. To begin,
functionalism is a theory in the philosophy of mind that defines mental states through its inputs,
outputs, and causal relation to other mental states, or its function (Jackson,4). The inputs are things
you perceive in the world and the output is how you react or your behavior. A behaviorist is only
concerned with inputs and outputs when defining mental states, whereas a functionalist takes it a step
further. They also examine the casual relationship to other mental

Ethnic Cleansing In The Rohingya
Ethnic cleansing has not been recognized by the United Nations as an independent crime. Although, it
has been recognized as trying to rid one group of people from an area to make the other group
ethnically homogenous. To do this a group can try to promote fear in another group making them want
to leave so they do not feel safe anymore. Some of these acts can include murder, torture, rape, etc.
(Ethnic Cleansing, Un.org) This is exactly what is happening to the Rohingya in Myanmar. They are
being forced to leave their home and escape to neighboring countries because of persecution by the
primarily Buddhist, Myanmar. They are not allowed citizenship, are forced to relocate, and been
attacked by the Myanmar government on several occasions. Recent studies have shown that over
160,000 Rohingya have fled Myanmar and over 1,000 have been killed, including innocent men,
women, and children. (Myanmar: Who are the Rohingya, aljezzera.com) The Rohingya have been in
Myanmar since 1982 and not only have gotten no recognition but are not even allowed citizenship.
This is turn limits them to having no power or say in Myanmar. The government made the Rohingya
get foreign identity cards. This in turn, angered many of the Rohingya for their families had been there
for generations. Some Rohingya had even served in the government prior to this. All their rights to go

Childhood Autism Rating Scale Paper
The Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS) developed by Eric Schopler, Robert Reichier and
Barbara Rochen Renner, is used in diagnosing autism. It enables a trained clinician to use a rating
scale to rate indications of the Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD).
The scale observes 15 items, rating them from 1 to 4, with the range denoting the severity (Childhood
Autism Rating Scale Special Learning Article, n.d.). A higher score shows a higher degree of autism,
and a score of 37 to 60 typically highlights severe cases (Schopler, Reichler, Renner, 1986). A

Administration of the test takes between 5 10 minutes, and given the increasing number of cases that
require screening, it is an appropriate tool for practitioners. The validity of the test is further
strengthened by the high levels of diagnosis agreement between parent s interviews, and observation
(Kaat Lecavalier, 2013).
Disadvantages and Limitations
The primary disadvantage with CARS is that there is no provision to design a targeted intervention, or
provide concise feedback to the parents (Payakachat, Tilford, Kovacs, Kuhlthau, 2012). Though it is
the only test used for adolescents and adults, CARS has limitations with this population because there
has not been extensive research to validate this.
Culture friendliness of CARS
CARS is especially culture friendly. The majority of tests and scales that have been developed come
from the western world, and were thus, based on western cultural implications. However, CARS
seems to be culture agnostic to a large extent. However, there have to be cultural expectations that
should be taken into account. Some cultural practices may translate in to higher scores, but could be
false (International Ethics and Special Education, 2008). For instance, making eye contact with elders
is impolite in some cultures, which should be taken into account when administering

Yes, I agree. From the perspective of crossing culture, the inherent risks include trust, power

difficult to communicate between 2 countries which have totally difficult cultures. No matter in the

( or does not abide by) a different legal system, and who could be very difficult to track down if he or

The Medal Of Honor, A Vietnam Warriors Story
Having the ability to foresee the future is having a visionary outlook. In the book Medal of Honor, A
Vietnam Warriors Story by MSgt Roy Benavidez and John R. Craig. Master Sergeant Benavidez was a
visionary leader in his career as an Army airborne ranger because he embodied idealized influence and

Visionary Leader
Master Sergeant Benavidez became a visionary leader in his career as an Army airborne ranger, when
he displayed his idealized influence when he selfishly took it upon himself to jump on the next
helicopter after the call came across the radio that his guys were under fire and they needed
reinforcements, with only a medical bag and a knife he bravely left. He exhibited service before self
and sacrificed his personal life for the mission, because of this heroic action, he saved 8 of his
comrades in Vietnam against overwhelming odds. In the bloodiest 6 hours of his life, he was shot 5
times, knifed during hand to hand combat, and sustained shrapnel wounds when hit by a grenade.
When dealing with these types of adversities this is a perfect example of how emergent leadership and
how resiliency place a huge part in recovery and how he used these principles in life after the war.
Winners don t quit and quitters don t win . As stated in Medal of Honor that is what his ranger drill
instructor asked of him. A motto that he has always lived by. This was his resiliency motivation.

used to wildfires, but as California and much of the western US endures its fifth year, residents are
wondering when there will be any respite from the flames and smoke (Kieran Cooke). It shouldn t

Medium As A Metaphor
This book is about Medium as a Metaphor, that means that we should not believe that everything is as
it may seem, that everything states for something. It is the history of Message and the ways of
transmitting it from the beginnings until now days, from smoke signals and wall drawings until the
modern technologies that Media uses now days. I found it full of information presented in the funniest
way.
Trying to see the American spirit, the author talked about different cities and what ideas they
represent. We must say that the author s arguments are funny especially when he is talking about the
President of the United States as being a movie actor and we can link that to the show Saturday Night
Live.
Moving further, we can agree ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If they call me an entertainer , I say that s great. When a professor teaches with a sense of humor,
people walk away remembering .
The main point was that everything should be done in a funny way to influence the masses.
For example, at our German class, we have many funny activities and games and we have to get
involved in order to obtain a good and pleasant result class this is the only way we will walk away
remembering .
The book speaks about Marxists, Freudians, Lévi Straussians and Plato four influential thinkers of out
times . They focused on the art of conversation and all the techniques and technologies that allow
people to exchange their ideas. Starting from this idea we are introduced into the history of what is
called this days conversation , sending a message and Media.
At the beginning people used smoke signals to communicate and this over time turned into a
complicated and complex way of communication. This main circle can be divided into smaller ones.
For example, when children are young they communicate first by signs and by simple sounds to
express what they wish or feel , at the age of 5 the child starts understanding and using simple words
and over the years they will develop the communication skills and improve their vocabulary every day

Metropolis Dystopian
Imagine a futuristic culture living in a post apocalyptic era where dystopia reigns and society struggles
to survive. Welcome to Metropolis. Good morning/afternoon, my name is Dana and I am, likewise, a
fellow viewer of Fritz Lang s 1927 film, Metropolis. Despite being eighty four years apart, films from
a particular time period like Metropolis, share many values, attitudes and themes as Veronica Roth s
2011 contemporary dystopian text, Divergent. The futuristic dimensions that they produce often
masquerade dystopia under the guise of a utopian perspective. Many of the attitudes and beliefs
presented by Metropolis interrelate to the contemporary text, Divergent. The commonality is evident
in the discourse of societal class, power struggle and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fundamentally, Metropolis is a timeless tale of class conflict and its struggle for power. Whilst being a
fictional city, the divide of the society of Metropolis presented is firmly set in the reality of greedy,
advantaged upper class and the lowly unappreciated workers they exploit. Lang uses expressionistic
imagery and the strong contrast of light and dark features to differentiate between the two classes
populating the ultramodern city. Director Fritz Lang tapped into Germany s power struggles, issues of
poverty and conflict and fears for the future, with the use of entirely fabricated and profoundly stylised
futuristic background filled with symbolism to convey political messages. In a similar fashion, the
abuse of power is parallel to Divergent. Though the battle at the peak of the novel is fought with the
use of high tech innovations, the circumstances that caused it can be related back to the power
struggles seen in Metropolis. It begins with a group of people believing they ve been treated unjustly,
with deceitfully small amount of say in the government, ultimately ending with conflict. Revolution
and up rising wars begin in much the same way. Jeanine Matthews, a leadership representative, is able
to convince her people to rally against Abnegation. Her method of manipulation through propaganda
and disrespect for other based on a perceived difference mirrors

Educated Mexican By Rick P. Rivera Summary
To understand who you are, you have to first understand your origin of where you are from. In the
story, A Fabricated Mexican, by Rick P. Rivera, it is about a young boy named Ricky Coronado. His
mom is a very strong willed and encouraging mother, and he lost his father when he was still young.
So without a father figure there to help him through life he is questioning himself about his life.
Which probably lead to why he is so pessimistic and negative.
Without a father image to help you and support you, it will be hard to understand what some things are
in life. For example, when Ricky s mom is telling him how come he isn t like other boys, The fuse had
finally burned down to ignite a cache of collective feelings and confused memories. Because they
have real fathers! I exploded. And everybody in their family is the same age. They stick together!
(Rivera 26). Without a father Ricky wasn t as good as others and doesn t have a good relationship with
his family members as much as all the other boys do. In addition, he disliked how his mother
compares him to the other boys and ask him why he can t be as ... Show more content on

still doesn t have someone to look up to and teach him the way a father would teach a son. Moreover,
with his stepfather there, he had gain some knowledge of a father, but not all of it that will be able to
help him when he grows older. Lastly, I think that due to Ricky not having a father when he was
young, Ricky would have trouble playing sports and understanding how to become a man, when he
grows up, because he doesn t have anyone to teach him. Therefore, with Ricky not having a father to
teach him what to do when he grows up, he is having a hard time to understand what to do with his

Mechanisms of Axon Guidance
Axons are sensitive and their respond depend on the local environment. When the tectum is removed,
retinal axons grow toward the missing tissue, demonstrating that optic axons utilize these
neighbourhood signals as opposed to a long run diffusible attractant from the tectum as they grow
along the optic tract (Taylor, 1990). In the event of a small piece of the optic tract neuroepithelium is
turned 90° preceding the axons enter it, then they become misoriented when they enter the pivoted
transplant (Harris, 1989) and correct their course of growth once they exit. These results confirm that
the neuroepithelium contains local information to which growing axons respond and that they are not
simply following gradients of attractants released by their targets (Sanes et al., 2012). Growth cone
filopodia are long, motile, and covered with receptors, also have a very high surface to volume ratio,
which can help convert membrane signals into large changes in intracellular messengers such as
calcium. Filopodia can show localized transient elevations of intracellular calcium and these transients
reduce filopodial motility (Sanes et al., 2012). Calcium transients can be directly artificially activated
in growth cone filopodia by loading neurons with a calcium caging agent that releases calcium upon
stimulation with a pulse of light (Gomez et al., 2001). Experiments in which calcium is uncaged on
one side of a growth cone generally cause the growth cone to turn toward the side that has

Symbolic Illustration of the Power of Relationships in Susan Glaspell s Trifles
A friend can be a remarkable thing. Unfortunately, many lack the powerful bonds that all humans need
to survive and lead healthy, happy lives. In Susan Glaspell s play Trifles, Mrs. Wright is starved of the
human interaction and relationships she so desperately needs. Consequently, she is never rescued from
her loneliness, is brought to the point where she cannot handle any more of life s saddening struggles,
and kills her husband in his sleep. Through powerful and often ironic symbolism, such as Mrs. Wright
s kitchen, the names of the characters, and the bird, Susan Glaspell clearly displays the power of
human relationships and how truly devastating a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another symbol of Mrs. Wright s lack of human interaction is her preserves in the kitchen. Mrs. Peters
explains how Mrs. Wright worried [that] if the fire d go out [. . .] her jars would break (Glaspell 1174)
and feels sympathy towards her. The men, on the other hand, do not understand how Mrs. Wright can
worry over such small trifles (Glaspell 1174) as she sits in jail for possibly murdering her husband. As
strange as it is, it is because the preserves, along with any other work she does in her house, is all that
she has. It is all that Mrs. Wright can proudly claim as hers. Hence, the broken jars of preserves the
women find in her kitchen represent Mrs. Wright s shattered dreams and expectations of a fulfilling
life with her husband. Like the jars, Mrs. Wright bursts from the unbearable pressures of her life, and
so, Glaspell clearly displays the power and importance of human relationships. Therefore, through
Mrs. Wright s kitchen, Glaspell symbolically implies how vital it is to reach out and befriend the
lonely and disheartened.
Another symbol Glaspell uses to reiterate the importance of human contact and support is the names
of the characters in the work. First, the fact that Glaspell never uses the characters first names (except
for Mrs. Wright s in one scene) signifies that the problem regarding the lack of human relationships is
not only in the rural areas of America, but across the world in every

Osteoporosis Is The Most Common Chronic
Osteoporosis is translated from the Greek and literally means porous bone .It is the most common
chronic, metabolic bone disease in the U.S.A, resulting in osteopenia and fractures in spine , hip and
wrist. In addition osteoporosis is progressive, and the skeletal fragility often leads to disabling
fractures (hip fractures) and even death. Primary osteoporosis is a result of aging, whereas secondary
osteoporosis occurs at any age, is a consequence to certain medication as well as diseases.
Throughout life the skeletal system is constantly changing. Bone modeling, formation and growth of
bones, occurs from birth to early adulthood resulting in increase in skeletal mass and changes in
skeletal form. Naturally the peak bone mass is achieved in the third decade of life, meaning the bones
are at their strongest state in human development. Bone remodeling, a response to micro trauma and
stress on the bone, is a dynamic process that also occurs through life. Bone is composed of collagen
type 1, a protein, minerals such as calcium and phosphate and bone forming cells (osteoblasts and
osteocytes) as wells as bone resorbing cells known as osteoclasts. Calcium is a main contributor of
bone strength. In fact 99% of calcium is stored in bones and teeth with one percent remaining in the
blood. The process of bone remodeling is activated by stressors such as weight bearing and is
necessary to maintain bone mass in an adult. It s a dynamic process in which bone resorption is always

Essay about Alfred Hitchcock s Rope
To this day Rope, Alfred Hitchcock s first color film, remains one of the most original motion picture
dramas. With the exception of the opening credits, Rope was shot on one individual set located within
a soundstage, similar to as if a play was being performed on stage. Despite the confined space the film
occupied, the atmospheric anxiety carried on up until the very end. Furthermore, Hitchcock
successfully created a deception, of the same repetitive shot. Nonetheless, during the one hundred and
eight minute film, it s hard not to notice the closeness Phillip and Brandon shared sexually together,
making them homosexuals. The movie opened up on a street in the afternoon, directed towards an
apartment where two young men were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the party went on, the question where s David occurred at an increasing rate. While the guests
discussed the problem, no one could understand why the usually reliable David didn t show up to the
gathering. Dissatisfaction began to build up but little did they know that his body was actually in the
same room with them. In addition, Rupert Cadell played by the compelling Jimmy Stewart arrived to
the party. During a short discussion, Brandon said, Nobody commits murder just for the experiment of
murder, (Hitchcock 1948) as he pops the bottle of champagne, Nobody except us (Hitchcock 1948)
leaving Rupert suspicious that something wasn t the way it should be. Meanwhile, Brandon enjoyed
relishing the situation and his self certainty, but Phillip was only seconds away from completely
falling apart as Rupert shot questions and innuendos left and right. Hitchcock had his ways with the
camera, capturing Phillips s emotions by Generating terrific tension, as the spectator s eye guided
relentlessly to the significant detail at the significant moment (Wood 78). Therefore, the audience is
left feeling fully engaged with the way Phillip carried tension towards Brandon, due to Hitchcock s
Suspense technique (Wood 78). For instance, Brandon was clever, sneaky and had a spiteful
mysterious humor. Yet, he seemed to get a thrill from the idea of getting away with murder. His
heartlessly daring attitude was proof as

Critical Analysis Of Elizabeth Barrett Browning
The Hopeless Romantic: Elizabeth Barrett Browning
In the poem How do I love thee? by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Browning asks how she loves her
beloved and goes on to list the ways in which she loves him. Her love is seen as eternal and exists
everywhere which brings to light the tone and styling of the poem and how it fits in the movement it
was written in. Elizabeth Barrett Browning was born in 1806 at Coxhoe Hall, Durham, England.
(Poetry Foundation) During the time of her writings, she was seen as one of the most influential poets
for the Romantic Movement. Romantics focused on nature, human feelings and compassion, and
rebelling for a cause, which Browning shows a lot of throughout her sonnet.
Browning was born in 1806 at Coxhoe Hall in Durham, England. She was a romantic writer but it
closely reflected the life she was living at the time. The oldest of twelve children, Elizabeth was the
first in her family born in England in over two hundred years. For centuries, the Barrett family, who
were part Creole, had lived in Jamaica, where they owned sugar plantations and relied on slave labor.
(Poetry Foundation) Elizabeth s father, chose to raise his family in England, while his fortune grew in
Jamaica. Educated at home Elizabeth apparently read passages from Paradise Lost and a number of
Shakespearean plays, among other great works, before the age of ten. By her twelfth year, she had
written her first epic poem, which consisted of four books of rhyming couplets. In 1826 , Elizabeth
anonymously published her collection An Essay on Mind and Other Poems. Two years later, her
mother passed away and the slow abolition of slavery in England and mismanagement of the
plantations depleted the Barrett s income. Elizabeth s father moved his family to a coastal town and
rented cottages for the next three years before settling permanently in London. Her father did not
allow his children to marry, having them work on the plantations in Jamaica instead. Gaining attention
for her work in the 1830s, Elizabeth continued to live in her father s London house, not by choice
however. He began sending Elizabeth s younger siblings to Jamaica to help with the family s estates.
Elizabeth opposed of slavery and did

The Stranger Cultural Analysis
This Novel, by Albert Camus, traces a year in the life of a young clerk, Meursault, in the 1940s who
works for a shipping company in Algiers. The first thing that happens to Meursault is that he gets a
telegram that his mother has departed. He takes a bus to see her and they hold the vigil. He shows no
expression of remorse or sadness. Once back in Algiers Meursault goes to the public beach for a swim.
There, he runs into Marie Cardona, his former co worker. They decide to go on a date and they see a
comedy movie, which is ironic after his mother s death, and they sleep together during the night. The
next day he spends just watching people in the street. That next day Meursault returns to work and
works all day and while at his apartment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When reading Albert Camus s novel The Stranger one understands the protagonist, known as
Meursault, to be central to the understanding of the novel. To the reader, Meursault detaches himself
from his own emotions and from others making him unable to experience normal human connections.
He fails to forge bonds with other characters because of his discomfort and confusion. Yet in the early
chapters of the work, during which Meursault s personality emerges, the other characters in the novel
give no indication that they perceive his behavior other than normal. (Strange 1) This shows that
Meursault has very weird bonds with people and they don t completely understand that he is a
withdrawn sociopath. Upon reading the first sentence of the book one instantly believes that the
character has something wrong with him. Today, maman died. Or perhaps yesterday, I don t know. I
have received a telegram from the nursing home. Mother deceased. Burial tomorrow. Sincerely yours.
That doesn t mean anything. It was perhaps yesterday (Camus 1) Nathan A. Scott remarks, the lifeless
monotone of the speaker [Meursault] intimates that the issue is of no consequence to him (Scott 34).
This is showing that Meursault has ultimately no recognition of what should be hurting him. He feels
that

  • 4. Why People Wear Seatbelts Deciding what to compose my essay of was no easy task. As a sixteen year old girl, many things today anger or irritate me. I have a different outlook on life than most people, therefore, things that might not bother the average teen girl infuriate me. After reflecting on the subject for a long time, I finally came to the conclusion that nothing bothers me more than when people don t wear seat belts whenever they operate or ride in a vehicle. Maybe it s perhaps because I have seen many wonderful people pass away simply because they couldn t click their seat belt or maybe it s because wearing a seat belt is logical, but some people still don t seem to understand. In attempt to maintain homeostasis, the body will respond to the psychological stress by modifying physiological processes (Nargund, 2015). The disruption of homeostasis can affect many biological systems, such as metabolism, vascular function, tissue repair, nervous system and reproductive system. • 11. Essay On Strong Interest Inventory Everyone has their own interests and values that they would like to pursue and continue to follow throughout their life. Although many people share common characteristics in interests, we are all our own different individuals which can be demonstrated in our personality and choices. The Strong Interest Inventory, SII, depicts these difference by assigning individuals a code based on the decisions made on the test. The code assigned to me was AIS, which means that my top three themes were artistic, investigative and social, in that order. In all honesty, I was not surprised by my results because they were almost identical to the code I received when I took the Kuder assessment back in UNI 150. Back then I got a tie between my social and art, but still had investigative so I had a code of S/AI. I think the code of AIS describes me well due to my love of the arts really taking a big part of me personally, along with my strong level of knowledge in math and science. Media s Influence On The Socialization Of A Child As media technology now offers various ways to access TV contents, such as on the Internet, cell phones and iPad, it leads children to spend more time watching animations and movies. According to a Kaiser family foundation study, 8 10 year old children expose average 7 hours 51 minutes to media in a typical day. 11 14 year old children and 15 18 year old children spend average 11 hours in a day. (Victoria et al.) Children thoroughly perceive and accept the concepts from media, so it is the powerful medium and cramming education method that control consciousness and create the imitation. The boy was chubby and small; he had very dark hair and extremely large glasses; he seemed to be a flibbertigibbet, an oddball child with a very introverted outlook on life along with knowledge beyond his years. He and his mother were but simple Dysart folk that brought no harm to anyone, but harm unfortunately came their way in the form of the mother becoming very ill with a stroke. This caused a great deal of difficulty for the boy as his persistently inebriated older brother, Stephen, whom he hoped he would not have to live with, had to become his sole custodian. The boy walked to the reception desk nervously and asked the receptionist where he could find any books on magic and ceremonies. To this the receptionist replied with a strong Geordie accent, You think we d av books on that crap in ere? Hmm... you know what, take a look in the corner beside them religious books, you know the Bible and all that. The boy nodded and then walked briskly, yet silently, towards the Religious section of the library. There he found books on Satanism, Buddhism and Atheism, and finally he came across a book on Devout Paganism with Reference to the Deil. The boy took this book to the reception to borrow it. Wearily, he handed over his library card and dropped the monolithic volume on the desk in front of the receptionist; the dust covering the book flew up and surrounded the boy and the receptionist in a fog whilst the sound reverberated around the whole library causing a disruption to everyone. The boy coughed cautiously as he lifted the book and walked away staring down at the floor. That night the boy started to read the book. Although every bride and groom follows not each of these practices, there are many norms to a wedding held in America. Many norms followed start even months or years before the ceremony takes place. It all starts with choosing a date. This forms the base for your entire wedding; it defines what colors to use, what materials to wear, if guests can attend, and many other factors. Invitations are they sent out to all guests. Prior to the invitations, guests are chosen wisely to stay within budget. Some brides and grooms will allow their dates to bring a plus one or their own date, depending on the couple. Normally, there will be a pre written and stamped envelope with the return address for RSVPs (respond s il vous plait). A card in the envelope will allow you to choose whether you are attending or declining the invitation, bringing a guest, and what entree you would like on the day of the wedding. The couple now gets to decide on the little details of their wedding: where it will be located, the decorations and color scheme, what food will be served, and who will be on their bridal party. Repticon Essay For the past ten years, Repticon Reptile and Exotic Animal Conventions have toured America, traveling to cities displaying a wide gamut of exotic pets with hopes of informing potential owners about the benefits of owning one (Repticon). Because I have never obtained an affinity for exotic animals, I was confident Repticon would ensure my uneasiness and feelings of being an outsider. As I approached the front door, I was greeted by a gigantic, inflatable snake that welcomed eager attendees, much like a theater shows previews to excited audiences waiting to see a movie. My uneasiness immediately set in. Once I entered the open, airy room, I was stamped with a turtle on my hand. There was no turning back now. The room had no prominent smell (to my surprise) and was filled with collapsible tables arranged in squares, with each square presenting a different group or category to participants. The articles reviewed in this paper affirm the evidence of evolution of speech. Much is unknown about the evolution of speech, however, fossil evidence points to adaptations for speech appearing between 1.5 million and 500,000 years ago. Fossil evidence for the evolution of speech is shown in the earliest hominins to one of our well known ancestors, the homo erectus. Figure 1 As seen, the human larynx is lower than that of the apes. The larynx in most mammals is usually located high enough to be used in the nasal passages, enabling simultaneous breathing and swallowing. This development can also be seen in small infants. As humans age, the larynx begins to slowly descend down to its final position in its adult stage, which it reaches in three to four years (Fitch, 2000). A similar descent of the larynx most likely occurred over the course of human evolution. Speech itself cannot be fossilized, however there are anatomical adaptations that are related to speech that have been fossilized. Although the soft tissue of the vocal tract does not fossilize well, there is one bone in the larynx that does fossilize well, the hyoid bone. This bone appears to be the same bone in Neanderthals just as in those found in modern humans (Abry, 1998). Although it is difficult to find evidence of speech, other sources of evidence have become available that demonstrate the absence or presence of speech. Increased tongue movements and control are needed for speech and it is expected that the nerves of the tongue and the diaphragm are larger in humans than in of other species, providing help with the articulation of speech (Arby, 1998). Ethics And Principles Of Ethics Ethics is a system basic moral principals and concepts of civilized human conduct. it helps us develop ideas about what is moral, right from wrong and dictates of conscience. Ethics also helps to distinguish between honest and dishonest characteristics in people. In business, ethics is something that is essential to one s moral compass. It is something that is taught through the child rearing process and into a child s formative years. Ethics requires knowledge. Through out the formative years or, child rearing process, parents promote and support their children from infancy to adulthood. This suggests, they teach their own personal ethics to the children they rear. According to the philosopher Socrates, ethics can be taught. To start us off I will be looking at the policy of protectionism and why it was replaced by the policy of Assimilation. The policy of protectionism was introduced in 1869 and ended in 1937. The policy was established with the mindset of protecting aboriginal people from white people due to the assumption that they were dying out. This is known as Social Darwinism, people back then believed that the superior race (whites) would strive forward and the inferior race (blacks) would eventually die out. The policy of protectionism gave police the power to separate families and force Aboriginal people to live on reserves, missions or stations. • 31. Functionalism And Its Impact On Physical Body Essay In the philosophy of mind, there are many theories that try to resolve the mind body problem. That is, how does the mental or consciousness interact with our physical body? Do they interact at all? Are they two separate entities or one in the same? Many theories try to answer these types of questions, but the one I will be focusing on is role functionalism. When mentioning functionalism throughout, I will be referring to role functionalism. Functionalism is a theory that says mental states can be defined by their function. So, we can identify mental states with their functional states. We can come to know the function of a mental state through examining its inputs, outputs, and relation to other mental states. I will show how this theory is correct by comparing it to the identity theory. I will begin by clarifying a few important terms in relation to functionalism, lay out the theory, and then present an objection. Lastly, I will present a possible functionalist reply to the objection and conclude. To begin, functionalism is a theory in the philosophy of mind that defines mental states through its inputs, outputs, and causal relation to other mental states, or its function (Jackson,4). The inputs are things you perceive in the world and the output is how you react or your behavior. It enables a trained clinician to use a rating scale to rate indications of the Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD). The scale observes 15 items, rating them from 1 to 4, with the range denoting the severity (Childhood Autism Rating Scale Special Learning Article, n.d.). The validity of the test is further strengthened by the high levels of diagnosis agreement between parent s interviews, and observation (Kaat Lecavalier, 2013). Disadvantages and Limitations The primary disadvantage with CARS is that there is no provision to design a targeted intervention, or provide concise feedback to the parents (Payakachat, Tilford, Kovacs, Kuhlthau, 2012). Though it is the only test used for adolescents and adults, CARS has limitations with this population because there has not been extensive research to validate this. Culture friendliness of CARS CARS is especially culture friendly. The majority of tests and scales that have been developed come from the western world, and were thus, based on western cultural implications. However, CARS seems to be culture agnostic to a large extent. However, there have to be cultural expectations that should be taken into account. Some cultural practices may translate in to higher scores, but could be false (International Ethics and Special Education, 2008). From the perspective of crossing culture, the inherent risks include trust, power problems, and communication problems. Wal Mart bought Seiyu to enter Japanese market. It is difficult to communicate between 2 countries which have totally difficult cultures. No matter in the language or in mind. Language problem may be more easy to solved. They can apply interpreters, but the culture stuff influent people s thinking, behavior. People from different culture think from different ways. Trust can be also a big problem. Firm engaged in international trade have to trust someone they may have never seen, who lives in a different country, who speaks a different language, who abides by ( or does not abide by) a different legal system, and who could be very difficult to track down if he or she defaults on an obligation.(Charles, 1994) Another problem is power. Visionary Leader Master Sergeant Benavidez became a visionary leader in his career as an Army airborne ranger, when he displayed his idealized influence when he selfishly took it upon himself to jump on the next helicopter after the call came across the radio that his guys were under fire and they needed reinforcements, with only a medical bag and a knife he bravely left. He exhibited service before self and sacrificed his personal life for the mission, because of this heroic action, he saved 8 of his comrades in Vietnam against overwhelming odds. In the bloodiest 6 hours of his life, he was shot 5 times, knifed during hand to hand combat, and sustained shrapnel wounds when hit by a grenade. When dealing with these types of adversities this is a perfect example of how emergent leadership and how resiliency place a huge part in recovery and how he used these principles in life after the war. • 43. Mechanisms of Axon Guidance Axons are sensitive and their respond depend on the local environment. When the tectum is removed, retinal axons grow toward the missing tissue, demonstrating that optic axons utilize these neighbourhood signals as opposed to a long run diffusible attractant from the tectum as they grow along the optic tract (Taylor, 1990). In the event of a small piece of the optic tract neuroepithelium is turned 90° preceding the axons enter it, then they become misoriented when they enter the pivoted transplant (Harris, 1989) and correct their course of growth once they exit. These results confirm that the neuroepithelium contains local information to which growing axons respond and that they are not simply following gradients of attractants released by their targets (Sanes et al., 2012). Growth cone filopodia are long, motile, and covered with receptors, also have a very high surface to volume ratio, which can help convert membrane signals into large changes in intracellular messengers such as calcium. Filopodia can show localized transient elevations of intracellular calcium and these transients reduce filopodial motility (Sanes et al., 2012). Calcium transients can be directly artificially activated in growth cone filopodia by loading neurons with a calcium caging agent that releases calcium upon stimulation with a pulse of light (Gomez et al., 2001). Experiments in which calcium is uncaged on one side of a growth cone generally cause the growth cone to turn toward the side that has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The men, on the other hand, do not understand how Mrs. Wright can worry over such small trifles (Glaspell 1174) as she sits in jail for possibly murdering her husband. As strange as it is, it is because the preserves, along with any other work she does in her house, is all that she has. It is all that Mrs. Wright can proudly claim as hers. Hence, the broken jars of preserves the women find in her kitchen represent Mrs. Wright s shattered dreams and expectations of a fulfilling life with her husband. Like the jars, Mrs. Wright bursts from the unbearable pressures of her life, and so, Glaspell clearly displays the power and importance of human relationships. Therefore, through Mrs. Wright s kitchen, Glaspell symbolically implies how vital it is to reach out and befriend the lonely and disheartened. Another symbol Glaspell uses to reiterate the importance of human contact and support is the names of the characters in the work. Osteoporosis Is The Most Common Chronic Osteoporosis is translated from the Greek and literally means porous bone .It is the most common chronic, metabolic bone disease in the U.S.A, resulting in osteopenia and fractures in spine , hip and wrist. In addition osteoporosis is progressive, and the skeletal fragility often leads to disabling fractures (hip fractures) and even death. Primary osteoporosis is a result of aging, whereas secondary osteoporosis occurs at any age, is a consequence to certain medication as well as diseases. Throughout life the skeletal system is constantly changing. Bone modeling, formation and growth of bones, occurs from birth to early adulthood resulting in increase in skeletal mass and changes in skeletal form. Naturally the peak bone mass is achieved in the third decade of life, meaning the bones are at their strongest state in human development. Bone remodeling, a response to micro trauma and stress on the bone, is a dynamic process that also occurs through life. • 47. Critical Analysis Of Elizabeth Barrett Browning The Hopeless Romantic: Elizabeth Barrett Browning In the poem How do I love thee? by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Browning asks how she loves her beloved and goes on to list the ways in which she loves him. Her love is seen as eternal and exists everywhere which brings to light the tone and styling of the poem and how it fits in the movement it was written in. Elizabeth Barrett Browning was born in 1806 at Coxhoe Hall, Durham, England. (Poetry Foundation) During the time of her writings, she was seen as one of the most influential poets for the Romantic Movement. Romantics focused on nature, human feelings and compassion, and rebelling for a cause, which Browning shows a lot of throughout her sonnet. Browning was born in 1806 at Coxhoe Hall in Durham, England. She was a romantic writer but it closely reflected the life she was living at the time. The oldest of twelve children, Elizabeth was the first in her family born in England in over two hundred years. For centuries, the Barrett family, who were part Creole, had lived in Jamaica, where they owned sugar plantations and relied on slave labor. (Poetry Foundation) Elizabeth s father, chose to raise his family in England, while his fortune grew in Jamaica. Educated at home Elizabeth apparently read passages from Paradise Lost and a number of Shakespearean plays, among other great works, before the age of ten. By her twelfth year, she had written her first epic poem, which consisted of four books of rhyming couplets. In 1826 , Elizabeth anonymously published her collection An Essay on Mind and Other Poems. Two years later, her mother passed away and the slow abolition of slavery in England and mismanagement of the plantations depleted the Barrett s income. Elizabeth s father moved his family to a coastal town and rented cottages for the next three years before settling permanently in London. Her father did not allow his children to marry, having them work on the plantations in Jamaica instead.
