The Similarities Between Mars And Mars
Mars, the red planet, and fourth planet from the sun. What is Mars really like, is it cold or hot, wet or
dry? Can humans live on Mars, and if so how? For decades scientists have been studying Mars, they
have been using rovers and from there they collected data, samples, and took pictures. These rovers
study Mars atmosphere, temperatures, weather, if it has water, and a lot more. With all of the data the
scientists have gathered we know that Mars atmosphere is a lot different than our, yet still has
similarities.
Even though Earth and Mars are in the same solar system and orbit the same sun, Mars atmosphere
and the planet itself is a lot different from Earth. Mars is 142 million miles away from the sun, with a
year being 687 days long. It is about half of Earth s size, and is one tenth of Earth s mass. Mars
atmosphere is carbon based, containing 95.3% carbon dioxide, and also it only has .3% water vapor
(Source for %). The average temperature on Mars is 81 degrees Fahrenheit which is approximately 62
degrees Celsius (NASA). Mars atmosphere is also very thin, so it does not allow liquid water to exist
at the surface for long (Newsela). Also Mars has a lot less gravity, Earth has 62.5% more gravity than
Mars does (NASA). Mars environment would not be very hospitable for human life.
Earth also differs a lot from Mars, Earth is 78.1% nitrogen, and 20.9% oxygen, and isn t carbon based
(Source for %). While Mars only is only .3% water vapor, Earth is 1 4%

How Did Marilyn Monroe Influence Society
She was the biggest movie goddess, the prime sex symbol to be alive at her time; Marilyn Monroe was
desired by many men, and is still an inspiration to many generations of women. Even after more than
fifty years after her death, she still continues to be an unrivaled fashion and movie icon. Even though,
Marilyn Monroe is not alive today, she still continues to influence today s society by defying the
typical model standard.
Marilyn Monroe was born Norma Jeane Baker on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California. During her
early years she overcame many hardships. Marilyn s father deserted the family before her birth, so she
spent most of her childhood not knowing her father s identity. There are two possibilities Edward
Mortenson, who was named on her birth certificate, and Stanley Gifford, who worked with her mother
Gladys. Marilyn moved between many foster homes, when her mother was sent to a mental hospital
after developing psychiatric problems. Eventually, Grace Mckee, her mom s best friend, became her
guardian. Mckee allowed nine year old Marilyn to curl her hair and wear makeup until Mckee married
and sent her to an orphanage. She was then sent to live with her great aunt, Olive Brunings, and it was
thought that Marilyn was sexually assaulted by Olive s son.
When Marilyn was sixteen she escaped her former life by marrying Jim Dougherty, a twenty one year
old aircraft plant worker, who she sadly divorced four years later. By this time she had begun posing

Anglo Saxon Chronicle, a historical record begun about the time of King Alfred´s reign (871 899) and
continuing for more than three centuries.

4. The Renaissance and Reformism
The reformation, owing both to the wishes of its academic founders and to the popular tendencies
underlying it, concerned itself largely with popular preaching. It is a widespread error to assume that
there was little popular preaching in the Middle Ages. It is true that there were many bishops and
parish priests who shirked their canonical duties in this respect, but there was much popular
instruction; there was, especially among the friars, much simple, at times even sensational, mission
preaching. But the deepening of religious life that preceded the reformation led men to employ with
greater diligence all means of helping others, and popular preaching was thus more widely used. Here
again, both a conservative and a revolutionary tendency are observable. On the one hand, we can trace
the fuller but continuous history of the older use of sermons. On the other hand, we find the tendency,
seen at its strongest in Zwinglianism, to exalt the sermon above the sacraments, to put the pulpit in
place of the altar. Both tendencies made the literature of sermons more popular, and more significant.
But, in the literature thus revived, the

Descriptive Essay On Coming To School
And The forecast today will be bright and sunny! My mother turned off the television and told be to
get my backpack, for it was time to head to school. It was a new school year, and just starting the sixth
grade. I was new to the district last year, so I have only made a handful of friends . My mom sends me
off to the bus, and I look up at the sky. It was dark and cloudy, it seemed as if it would rain. I sighed,
and I get onto the morning bus. I walked into the building i ve managed to become so familiar with
during the last school year. Heading into the sixth grade wing, I find my locker, and open it with ease.
The girl next to me didn t have the same luck. I snicker at her struggle, then I offer some help. She
more than willingly handed me her locker combination, and I open her locker for her. She thanks me
and I headed into my class. I look around, the buzzing of voices swirled in my head. My eyes dart to
the door just in time to see the girl I helped earlier walk into the room. I smile and she smiles back,
then proceeds to go sit by her small group of friends. Over the next couple of days, we talk and get to
know each other. Later I find out her name is Lillian. I let her copy my work, she introduces me to her
friends, then they also copy my work. I began to make a lot of new friends, and that made me love
school even more. It went smoothly until I started to get pulled out everyday. The only downfall of
this all. Speech Therapy. One a day, for a single hour, my

An example of this can be seen when the Pepsi Company held a Fire Passing activity that consisted of
passing the fire of the Olympic Games in preparation of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. This type
of motivational tactic enhanced the involvement of consumers and actually created an environment
that suggested that Pepsi wants to be part of their lives. This type of involvement appeals to
consumers and increases their favorability towards Pepsi. It can also lead to consumers being
motivated to purchases Pepsi as well as create brand awareness.
3.3 Promotion
Consumers can also become motivated by the various slogans such as:
Passport to refreshment
Pepsi has the taste thirst goes for.
Pepsi adds life.
The pause that refreshes
Pepsi has attempted to make consumers believe that consuming a Pepsi entails a refreshing; exciting
experience that triggers an emotional response that can only be satisfied with their product. Examples
of this can be seen in their advertisements which perceive Pepsi to be the ultimate thirst quencher
unsurpassed by other brands therefore consumers who see these advertisements may experience the

The Criminal Justice System Across The Country Essay
The criminal justice system across the country is designed to punish and strive to rehabilitate those
who have committed offenses against the law. Compared to some of the harshest regimes in the world,
the United States has a harsh history of mass incarceration. American prisons maintain nearly 25
percent of the world s prison population. Of the nearly 2.3 million incarcerated, 1 million are African
Americans (NAACP). The poverty stricken in America, especially those who are persons of color,
face a greater risk of incarcerated for minor offenses than their white counterparts. People charged and
or convicted of crimes are overwhelmingly poor. The Prison Policy Initiative finds that incarcerated
people have a median annual income of $19,185 prior to their incarceration which is 41% less than
that of non incarcerated individuals of a similar age ( Prisons of Poverty ). Both race and socio
economic status plays a critical role in the inequality that takes place in the criminal justice systems.
Over the last half century, the total number of those imprisoned has spiked dramatically as crime rates
have sharply dropped since the early 1990 s. Experts offer varied explanations for the troubling
growth of the American prison industrial complex, including the War on Drugs, harsh mandatory
minimum sentences and a system largely incapable of handling suspects with mental health issues
(Lee). Across the United States, the cost of the justice system is paid increasingly by the

Theories concerning finance have developed throughout the...
Theories concerning finance have developed throughout the years evolving from the efficient market
theory to behavioural finance. The efficient market theory had a large following in the 1970s although
in the 1980s this theory became problematic as the theory didn t explain the volatility of the actual
stock market. Shiller argued that efficient market model needed to be grounded more in reality.
Behavioural finance was a solution that many looked to and is becoming a favourable model, as it
looks at finance from a broader perspective involving psychology and sociology.
Academics noticed flaws with the efficient market theory paying attention to the volatile stock price
abnormality. Despite these anomalies appearing minor in nature, it ... Show more content on

Furthermore there is negative feedback, when investor sentiment becomes corrosive driving the prices
down. Speculative bubbles can be a result of feedback if there is no intervention. These bubbles can
occur on a small scale affecting the price of the daily market, but the effect can be as dire a global
financial crisis due to human interactions.
Feedback is due to cognitive psychology, as humans we seek out the patterns which have the greatest
amount of similarities from the past. A study from Marimon, Speak and Sunder (dsdidsi) reinforces
this idea as subjects are familiarised with the past performance of the stock market fostering
expectations of a bubble. Investors act upon long terms trends rather than reacting to daily changes.
Futhermore Daniel, Hirshleifer and Subramanyam (dasdadh) believe that biased self attribution
contributes to feedback. It needs to be considered than investors don t automatically.
If there is a surprising disturbance in a determinant of demand other than feedback it can be magnified
for some time affecting prices and thus future prices through a distributed lag. The feedback model
doesn t show substantial serial correlation in contrast to what is widely believed especially when we
have information about the determinants of demand. This is because the noise, the other factors which
drives demand directly affects short run changes. Although it has minimal effect on the current price
because of lagged others factors

Miss Representation Summary
Miss Representation Critical Analysis
In Miss Representation, many female actresses, news anchors, politicians, directors and producers talk
about how females suffer a lot of social, political and economic inequalities in today s society. There
are double standards against women in magazines, on TV, in movies, the news, politics, and the
workplace. The media is an influential part of modern culture. When women are portrayed as objects
for men to use never as the protagonist or president and when female news anchors are objectified,
this will cause girls of all ages to begin viewing themselves as objects. Girls grow up in a world where
their voice does not count; where our culture does not embrace them in all of their diversities, where

The U.S. Congress is only 17% female. As a result, the decisions made by congressmen will tend to
favor men. We are shortchanging voices that are urgently needed in public forms from ever getting to
the table. (Booker) I do not think that it is merely the media to blame for girls not wanting to become
involved in politics. I feel as though girls should be leaders in politics only if they want to. Although
we need way more female representatives, this does not mean that girls should be forced to do
something that they are not interested in.
Women employees make less than men in the same job position. It is an absolute scandal that
American women continue to earn just $0.77 for every dollar men earn. (Sen. Mikulski) There should
not be a gender pay gap. Workers should be given salaries based on their work ethics, degrees, and
academic credentials.
All of those disadvantages for women in modern society are affecting young girls, and it is hard to
raise daughters in today s culture. We as a country should not just let this inequality continue. Men and
women should be treated equally and it is important for parents to raise their kids to make the future

Experimental Psychology Stroop Effect
Running head: EXPLORING THE STROOP EFFECT

Fall 2011.
Abstract
The research assessed in this article discusses the Stroop effect. The Stroop effect occurs when our
selective attention fails and we are unable to attend to some information and ignore the rest. This
study tests the Stroop effect by presenting the participant with a congruent or incongruent word and
the participant is asked to type the color of the word or the actual word in a series of trials. In this
research, it has been found that participants had faster reaction times for congruent items and slower
reaction times for incongruent items. In addition, participants had faster reaction times when ... Show

Method Participants Twenty one undergraduate, male and female students were recruited from an
experimental lab class at the City University of New York Brooklyn College. Materials and Design In
this within subjects design, we used a 2 (Congruency: Congruent vs. Incongruent) x 2 (Task Type:
Naming color vs. Naming word) factorial; the dependent variable measured was reaction time. The
stimuli were presented on a seventeen inch computer monitor and participants were given a standard
keyboard for their responses. The software used for this experiment is METACARD. The stimuli used
were four words: red, green, blue, yellow; and four colors: red, green, blue, yellow. For the
independent variable of congruency, there were four possible congruent items and twelve possible
incongruent items. For the independent variable of task, there was one block of forty eight trials
asking the participant to type the word and one block of forty eight trials asking the participant to type
the color. The order of each block was randomly determined by the computer for each participant.
Half of the participants did the word naming then color naming; the other half did color naming then
word naming. Each trial begins with the presentation of a fixation cross in the center of the screen,
visible for 500 milliseconds. The fixation cross is removed and immediately followed by the word and
color stimulus; this

South Sudan at Risk of Genocide
Genocide in the world is very much alive and continues to happen; it is estimated that since the year
1900, more than 170 million lives have been lost. If you were to think of that in size, it would be equal
to the entire population of Nigeria, gone, wiped out of existence. After the holocaust of World War II,
additional steps were taken to ensure history didn t repeat itself. The Convention for the Prevention
and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide was held in 1948, conducted by the United Nations General
Assembly (UNGA) it concluded that, genocide is a crime under international law, contrary to the spirit
and aims of the United Nations (UN) and condemned by the civilian world (Schabas, n.d.). The

This new country was met with high praise and expectations with the United States (US) playing a key
role in their accomplishment. Unfortunately, South Sudan faced hardship from the very beginning; it
is one of Africa s poorest and least developed countries even though it is oil rich and contains the
majority of the oil reserves in Sudan.
The country s leadership was comprised of the two main tribe s leaders. The first is President Salva
Kiir Mayardit of the Dinka people which accounts for 15 percent of the country s population. The
other is Vice President Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon of the Nuer people who makes up 10 percent of
the population. Shortly after gaining its independence, President Kiir fired his cabinet and Vice
President Machar over allegations of a coup attempt. This led to ethnic and political indifferences
between the Dinka and the Nuer. A peace deal was reached between both individuals a month later,
but fell apart after a few days. This put South Sudan in a state of alert, with minor sporadic clashes
between tribes up until the end of 2013.
In mid December 2013, gunfire erupted between soldiers supporting Kiir and Machar, putting the
country in an almost instant state of civil war, with the Dinka tribe fighting against the Neur tribe. The
tension between both groups had evolved into a full

Explain What Is Meant By St. Augustine Of Hippo
Questions about sin have been the focus of much theological conversation and discussion for the
reason that how one answers them strongly influences the rest of Christian doctrine. Augustine of
Hippo is regarded as one of the most important and well known theologians and philosophers in the
history of the Christian religion. His writings influenced the development of Western Christianity and
Western philosophy. Augustine s faith development recorded in treatises, sermons, and letters
highlights the theological landscape of the time and one man s journey to Christianity. Augustine
developed his own approach to philosophy and theology, accommodating a variety of methods and
perspectives through traditions and history. St. Augustine of Hippo ... Show more content on

Both Pegasus and Augustine based their teachings off the writings of Paul, to the point that Augustine
discovered what he saw as the essence of Christian faith by reading Romans. The basis of Augustine s
Doctrine of Original Sin stemmed from the thought that original sin was transmitted from generation
to generation through sexual intercourse. The theology of original sin that Augustine articulated in 397
is reflected clearly and repeatedly in Augustine s most famous writing, his Confessions, which he
began to write at the same time, shortly after he became bishop of Hippo. Augustine understood
original sin in that:
. . . all men, born according to nature, are born with sin, that is, without the fear of God, without
confidence towards God and with concupiscence, and that this original disease or flaw is truly a sin,
bringing condemnation and also eternal death to those who are not reborn through baptism and the

Sociological Analysis Of Private Troubles In The Military
1. Sociological Concept: The book defines private troubles as, problems we face in our immediate
relationships with particular individuals in our personal lives (Witt, 2016, p. 3). Example: The
example I found for private troubles are flyers posted on every bulletin board in every work center at
Eielson Air Force Base. The flyers are made by the base chaplain and mental health clinic. The flyers
are there to provide the phone numbers of people to contact who can help with private troubles.
Sociological Analysis: The reason I picked these flyers to use for private troubles is that mental health
and resiliency are stressed so much not only in the Air Force but in the military as a whole. Members
of the military face private troubles on a daily basis, mainly with their family life or their coworkers.
As a member of the military, we cannot do our job to the best of our ability if we are always thinking
about the private troubles of a marriage failing or not getting along with co works. So, to have support
from the office of the chaplain and the mental health clinic is crucial to the well being of the military.
In some cases, it is very obvious that a person is going through private troubles and others can do a
very good job of hiding it. To have resources so readily available and willing to help with our private
troubles is very important. 2. Sociological Concept: The book defines in group as, a category of
people who share a common identity and sense of belonging (Witt,

Orcas are found in oceans everywhere both hot and humid and also cold from the icy waters of the
North and South poles to sultry seas. The killer whale is the most cosmically huge member of the
dolphin family, and there are about 5 various species of orcas in the oceans.
These amazing creatures hunt in pods that consist of 6 to 40 killer whales. They hunt for gigantic fish,
seal, and sea lion and frequently seabirds and mammals.
The orca s top speed is approximately 30 mph but can travel at 26 mph for long periods of time. It is
normal for an orca to swim more than 50 miles without going up for air.
Killer whales are massive animals that have an extremely large dorsal fin with the black and white
markings being their most unique feature. The

In the terms of producers marketing is about what services and products to produce, when and why to
introduce new offers. It is also about determining the volume of supply, the correct price, and when
and where to make products available to buyers.
The marketing concept holds that the key to achieving organisational goals consists in determining the
desired satisfactions more effectively and efficiently than competitors, in a way that preserves or
enhances the customers and the society s well being. Kotler (1991:16 26) this identifies that it is
important for businesses to determine customer satisfactions more efficiently and effectively to gain a
competitive advantage and help reach organisational goals.
Demand are supply relationships are used between consumers and suppliers and are vital for the
marketing economy as stated by Heakal (2015) states: supply and demand is perhaps one of the most
fundamental concepts of economics and it is the backbone of the market economy .
The main aim of this marketing method is to accomplish something called equilibrium, this is when
demand and supply meet in the middle. For businesses to be able to accomplish this, it is vital to fully
understand the behaviours of customers, also their wants and needs. Businesses should use the

My Love With Reading Analysis
The first time I ever fell in love with reading was when I was 10 years old. I feel like that maybe a
little late in the game, but my parents never really read to my sister and me while we were growing up.
I never truly had that, wow moment with a book just yet. My father was in the Army and was
deployed a lot and my mom worked or tried to stay busy so she would not miss him. Reading wasn t
on the top of their to do list and at the time, it wasn t on the top of mine. We were busy exploring new
cultures and new places that other people could only dream of. I had been to France, Italy, Czech, and
many other European countries before I was old enough to retain where I was and what I was
experiencing. Oh, but that faithful day in my 5th grade class when reading evaluations came through, I
had scored an 8th grade reading level. I was so excited when I showed my parents the evaluation, not
because I loved to read and was having one of those, look what reading has given me moments. I just
felt smart. We went to the library the next day in school to find books that were in our reading levels. I
was a little intimidated at first, the books for 8th graders were superior to what I was used to reading. I
was going to Soldier on as my father said and check out one of those huge and almost frightening
looking books. I mean just because I could read at an 8th grade level didn t mean I had to, right? Yes, I
had to, I had to see what was out there for me in the terms of literature. I

The Importance Of Knowledge In Art
Knowledge lies at the foundation of everything in society. While it may not always be noticed, it is
always present. This knowledge is used in an array of processes such as creativity, experimentation,
analysis, and so much more. From process to process, or area of knowledge to area of knowledge, all
knowledge incorporates the processes of both transformation and description in order to evolve as
justifiable beliefs. Transformative knowledge includes the product of an individual s implementation
of their personal cognitive processes to challenge traditional perspectives, while descriptive
knowledge results when individuals utilize the new perspectives, allowing fresh outlooks to be
perceived. While all areas of knowledge incorporate the use of both processes, some may primarily
use one or the other. This can be seen in the areas of art and natural sciences. Knowledge in arts seems
to primarily describe the world, while knowledge in natural sciences seeks to transform it through
innovation and much more.
The area of art is popularly known for heightening emotions, challenging stereotypes, and ultimately
providing insights into how individuals view the surrounding world. The artist and the observer time
and time again see pieces in overwhelmingly different ways. Individuals may wonder why this is so.
What could possibly create such a drastic change from one perspective to another? When it comes
down to it, experiences are the answer. The artist and the observer have different

Coming Of Age By Anne Moody
The famous leader Martin Luther King once said, Being a Negro in America means trying to smile
when you want to cry. It means trying to hold on to physical life amid psychological death. It means
the pain of watching your children grow up with clouds of inferiority in their mental skies. It means
having their legs off, and then being condemned for being a cripple. This quote pretty much summed
up the way in which African Americans felt during the 1960 s. They had basically no meaning to life.
They were irrelevant. Whites wanted no part in them. This was especially the case in the state of
Mississippi. Anne Moody, writer of the autobiography, Coming of Age in Mississippi explains the
importance of the civil rights movement in the state of Mississippi and the influence it had on her life
and her viewpoint.
Growing up as a poor African American in Mississippi was not always an easy, especially in the 1960
s. It was a time where everyone was segregated. Blacks and whites were treated completely different.
They weren t allowed to eat at the same restaurants, go into the same bathroom, or even drink from the
same water fountain. Anne Moody did just that. As just a young girl being raised by extremely poor
black family in the South, she personally experienced the difference between the lives of blacks and
whites. She was growing up in the middle of the civil rights movement, where African American
struggled everyday. At a very young age Moody became challenged by many instances

running athletes and those of military personnel (Craig, 2008). MTSS, however, specifically refers to
the pain experienced on the posteromedial tibia border (inflammation of muscles, tendons, and bone
tissue around the tibia) while exercising. MTSS is the result of a repetitive action, especially in
individuals with overly pronated feet. Although, MTSS ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because the specific etiology of MTSS is indefinable, it is difficult for health care professionals in
making treatment conclusions. There are five chief etiological theories for MTTS described in current
literature: fascial traction, tight and/or fatigued plantar flexors, tibial bending, lack of shock
absorption, and excessive pronation.
Bouche and Johnson investigated fascial traction, by inserting strain gauges in cadavers to measure
tension on the tibial fascial attachment at the medial tibial crest. The authors concluded that fascial
tension may play a role in the pathomechanics of MTSS, and circumferential taping did not dampen
this tension (Craig, 2009).
Milgrom et al investigated tight/fatigued plantar flexors by inserting strain gauge staples into the
medial aspect of 4 subjects midtibial diaphysis, then measured gastrocnemius isokinetic torque before
and after vigorous physical activity. The authors found a significant correlation between
gastrocnemius fatigue and an increase in bone strain. They concluded that a fatigued state of the
gastrocnemius increases bone strains in the tibia well above (26% 29%) those in rested individuals

Causes Of Teen Suicide
Teen Suicide
Teenage suicide is a major public health concern in the United States. According to the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention there were approximately 5,079 suicides in 2015. This occurred
mainly between the age of 15 and 19. This is the second leading cause of death among this age group.
There are different reasons why teenagers may have suicidal thoughts and commit suicide. This essay
will identify the different causes of suicide among teenagers and propose solutions to the problem.
Teen suicide may be defined as the intentional act of a teenager ending his or her own life. Teen
suicide attempts are more common among females when compared to males even though male
teenagers are the ones who actually carry out the act of suicide. The higher rates of suicide in the
United States are attributed to the changes in the suicide methods. Suffocation which happens through
strangulation and hanging is the most lethal method of suicide that is considered by teenagers. The
other forms of suicide that are used by teenagers include firearm suicide in which the teenagers use
firearms to end their lives (Holliday and Vandermause 168). Teen suicide affects both male and female
teenagers even though males are at an increased risk of suicide. Teen suicide rates in the United States
doubled between 1960s and 1990s. There is no clear explanation on this trend even though the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention attributes this to increased reporting. There has been

Generation Gap In Into The Wild
The Generation Gap
Picture this: you are twenty two years old. You just graduated from college and you are about to start
your first real job. You need money desperately to pay off your mountainous pile of student debt but
more importantly, your phone just broke this morning when you were ordering your daily low fat, non
dairy mocha macchiato and you need to buy the new iPhone. You haven t been able to check Twitter
in over three hours and the anxiety of not knowing what new offensive tweet from your newest
president, Donald Trump, says is eating you alive. You call your parents for help because maybe, just
maybe, they will help you out with money this one last time and of course they do... This is the typical

For example, parents who grew up in the south and learned racism disowned their daughter because
she was dating a black boy. This is an extreme case in how racism among generations can ruin a
family, but sadly, this is something that happens all the time. Another example of differing viewpoints
by generation in a family can be seen in Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer when Chris McCandless
strongly disagrees about what the meaning of life is; his father believes it s all about the material
goods and having money but Chris believes that it s about finding peace with yourself without the
outside influence of media or society. A more specific example of this is when Chris father offered to
buy Chris a new car but he did not want it because he already had a car that worked perfectly fine
(Krakauer 20). Millennials are more open to equality and diversity.60% of millennials say that
interracial marriage is a change for the better while only 29% of baby boomers say that it is a good
thing. Perhaps this could be because of the creation of social media. By being connected to whoever
you want whenever you want, you are able to share ideas and information instantaneously. This is a
great way to spread culture and beliefs. By exposing themselves to and becoming familiar with the
culture of other people, you become more accepting and comfortable with that group of people that

own benefits to an organisation. These five components include:
Policy This sets the organisations commitment to comply with relevant laws and seek continual
improvement in safety(Standards Australia, 2001). The policy sets what the organisations upper
management wish to achieve and what their goals for safety within the organisation are. This benefits
the organisation by providing a message from upper management to all staff and the community on
how the organisation will manage safety. A good policy as seen later, will assist an organisations

Essay about Ralph Waldo Emerson s Nature
In the woods, we return to reason and faith. There I feel that nothing can befall me in life, no disgrace,
no calamity (leaving me my eyes), which nature cannot repair. Standing on the bare ground, my head
bathed by the blithe air and uplifted into infinite space, all mean egotism vanishes. I become a
transparent eyeball. I am nothing. I see all. The currents of the Universal Being circulate through me; I
am part or particle of God.
Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nature (1836)

Man appreciates the beauty and pays homage to the one who created it. Emerson then says There I
feel that nothing can befall me in life, no disgrace, no calamity (leaving me my eyes), which nature
cannot repair. He seems to feel at one with nature. Emerson sees the serenity and peace and realizes
how insignificant all of his life s problems are. He believes that there is no problem nature is incapable
of remedying. As the saying goes, Time heals all wounds. Emerson s words seem to echo that. He
seems almost completely careless about all his former petty concerns. His next remark, Standing on
the bare ground, my head bathed by the blithe air and uplifted into infinite space, all mean egotism
vanishes. He feels free of the bars society has constructed, he is free of all concerns and worries. the
infinite space he describes indicates a place with no restrictions, where he can be as he ought to, to see
the glory and majesty of nature. Emerson also notes that selfishness dissolves as the figurative big
picture is made visible. Again, being in this situation enables a man to realize his insignificance as a
single being. I become a transparent eyeball. I am nothing. I see all. This metaphor embodies the basis
of Emerson s entire philosophy. In this sentence, he fully indicates his unique outlook this transparent

Communication-The Evolution Of The Cell Phone
Communication The Evolution of the Cell Phone The importance of the Smart Phone Could you
imagine going a day without your smart phone? It seems as though everyone now a days owns a smart
phone. Smart phone have became rapidly advanced in such a short amount of time, with the
competition between the two major smart phone companies Apple and Samsung competing to create a
brand a new model every year with new features. The demand for smart phones is increasing and
statistics show that more people have mobile phones than toilets. The time people spend on the cell
phones is mostly spent on apps, and people are spending an average of 3 hours and 23 minutes per day
in apps and only 50 minutes accessing the mobile web. Statistic also show that nearly 75 percent of
US adults will use a smart phone in 2017, and it is continuing to increase. So, how was the smart

Enlargement Of The European Union
Introduction The European Union (EU), which began through the integration of six member states in
1951, welcomed its latest member, Croatia, in 2013, effectively bringing its total to twenty eight
members (Verdun, July 23, 2015). The first EU enlargement occurred in 1973, when the UK, Ireland,
and Denmark joined the union. Since then, four major enlargements have taken place, despite the long
existent controversies regarding the possible value or downfalls of the expansion of the union. With
over twenty more countries within the continent as possible candidates, especially as many express
interest of joining, it is highly possible that efforts for further enlargement may be made in the future.
The question, however, is whether EU ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of high concern, is whether the union can accommodate more diversity. Respecting and protecting
minorities for the EU has been an ongoing challenge. Anti immigration is a common phenomenon,
and although efforts have been made to increase acceptance, it is a challenge that may be further
induced as new member states join. The candidacy of Turkey, for example, has resulted to increased
anti Muslim attitudes. It is therefore questionable whether EU should pursue further enlargement in
the near future, or whether it should first address the internal challenges it is currently facing prior to
greater expansion. Background Economic Implications for Pre Existing and New Member States
Many studies exploring the implications of further EU enlargement focus on the possible economic
consequences. From liberal perspective further enlargement would mutually benefit all the member
countries economically (Cohn, 2012). Often, it is argued that new members joining the union are
positively affected, whereas pre existing countries suffer financial losses (Neueder, 2003). However,
studies suggest that although new members experience the most economic benefits by gaining
membership, pre existing members are positively impacted as well. Epstein argues that EU
membership has greatly benefited Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries in economic

The Problem Of Traffic Lights
The idea for traffic lights began in the mid 1800s when a system was essential to sustain the amassed
flow of horse drawn traffic flow. By 1868, a signal was put in by the intersection of George St and
Bridge St, which is close to the Parliament. The installment provided pedestrians a safe crossing, and
an answer to officials that need to sustain traffic.
The semaphore involves a signal of a tall post with movable arm. When the arm is aligned sideways, it
mean stop. After dark, a gas lamp was lit at the top. The green lenses means to go, and red means stop.
Originally, the signal is controlled by hand, and the officers decided when the signal to be changed
according to traffic flow. They would also whistle to remind drivers, when the signal will change.
However, this method turned out to be hazardous. In 1869, a leak in one of the gas lines led to a traffic
signal explosion. The incident severely wounding the policeman operating it, and led to the semaphore
project to be terminated in London.
In America, the semaphore were be rolled out to public because there were more motorists travelling
on the road. However, many problems arose due to officers finding it to be difficult to sustain the
traffic congestion. Some cities started to install traffic towers, which allowed officers to have a clearer
view to monitor the traffic in an elevated platform.
In the early 1900s, the automobiles just gain popularity throughout the world and traffic becomes

Ophelia And Hamlet
During the reign of Queen Elizabeth, the stage was used as a way to break the barriers of gender
norms. In his creation of Hamlet, Shakespeare uses the voice of Ophelia as a means to battle the
gender norms that had been placed on Elizabethan society. A good women was seen as someone that
was quiet and submissive. If a man could not control a woman s tongue, there would be no chance that
the man would be able to control her body. Though Ophelia s character was more than capable of
exhibiting reason, the control that her father, Polonius, held over her let Ophelia to the the madness
that would claim her life by the end of the play. On the other side of the gender spectrum, Hamlet, a

Merchant s representations claim that both nature and women are subordinate and essentially passive
furthering the proof that women are held at a lower standard than men (Merchant 9).
The sexuality of women is also compared to animals, furthering the idea that women appeared closer
to animals than men on the Great Chain of Being. Hamlet emphasises his mother s sexuality as being
animalistic when confronting the King and Queen about their incestual marriage, stating that she
would hang on him/As if increase of appetite had grown/by what it fed on (1.2.143). Hamlet
supplements Gertrude s animalistic sexuality by claiming that a beast who lacks reasoning capabilities
would have mourned [the death of her husband] longer rather than marrying her brother in law, which
was an incestuous act (1.2.150). In Elizabethan England, it was considered indecent and illegal to
carry out an act of incest and, by copulating the marriage, Gertrude is acting in a way that does not
show any reasoning. Hamlet ends his soliloquy by stating that he must hold [his] tongue rather than
demanding his mother acknowledge her lacking position on the Great Chain of Being. Merchant states
that women are imbued with a far greater sexual passion rather than by logic which solidifies their
position on the Great Chain of Being according to Elizabethan standards.

97 98 CE: The Rule of Nerva and Rise of Trajan
The years 97 and 98 CE marked an important turning point in Roman history, as it marked the

and 98 CE, many important events occurred. Marcus Cocceius Nerva, simply called Nerva, was made
emperor in 96 CE, and ruled until his death in the January of 98 CE. Under his rule, many new laws

previous emperor s mistakes. Before Nerva was emperor Domitian, a very harsh and authoritarian
ruler who was under the impression that the Senate was trying to undermine his power. Because of
this, emperor Domitian had hundreds of traitors in the Senate imprisoned. During his reign as emperor

Gun Control Mechanism
Introduction
In America, one of the major challenges for security agencies is to have Gun control. Several innocent
people s lives have been taken by this weapon and led to great moaning in the U.S. Likewise, different
people have been left immobilized due to increase gun violence crime. In the United States, these
types of challenge are arising because of issuing providing possession of unlicensed guns. For the aim
of reducing crime rates due to gun, governments must make strict balance on gun distribution, as well
as illegalize its ownership without any exception to any conditions (DeConde, 2003).
Therefore, gun violence is explained as the utilization of firearms to produce harm. Moreover, this
term signifies the general guns misuse, so broadly, it can be described as a violence and crime class
committed with the help of firearms which might not cover self defense actions, practices for law
enforcement, sports along with hunting others (DeConde, 2003).
Further includes careful use of weapons to murder, produce injury or threaten people. Among children
and adolescents, it is common who wind up providing trouble to them along with the public. The
positioning of this paper is Gun control.
Mechanisms for Implementing Gun Control
Many ways are now available for the implementation of the gun control. Getting it from the legislation
and experience of U.K, gun control must be the only government duty in addition to private security

Physics of Karate Essay
The basic ideas behind any style of karate can in general be reduced to the goal of achieving the most
effective movements with the least effort. Specifically, with a strike such as a punch, kick, knife hand
or similar, the karateka attempts to move smoothly through the strikes, conserving energy towards the
impact point. When thought about in terms of energy, the most common equation is that of rotational
kinetic energy, or KE=(1/2)mv^2 + (1/2)Iω^2.
Another way to think about a strike is to attempt to focus as much force as possible at the point of
impact. In many strikes, this is facilitated by drawing an almost straight line with the striking tool
from the original point of rest to the point of impact. This is based on the ... Show more content on

back leg is straight, and there is constant pressure down through the heel of the back leg. The upper
body should be leaned very slightly forward in preperation of movement, and the torso and hips

Because this is a stable stance, the various forces acting on the body must be equalized somehow. The
main force is the one caused by extension of the back leg into the ground (a). This is held in check by
dropping the torso into the stance and allowing the friction on the front foot from the ground, μb + ~

Batteries And Its Effects On The World

your home, just lose and debatably old or new. We couldn t power a toy truck nor a hearing aid
without them yet we disrespect the honor of one of the most genius and important inventions in
history. Batteries are very important but is there anything we can replace it with possibly, ourselves?
Well, first we need to know what exactly a battery actually does. The first true battery was invented by
Alessandro Volta, an Italian physicist, in 1800. Batteries are a mass of one or more cells whose
chemical reactions create a flow of electrons in a circuit. Batteries contain three basic parts:
electrodes, an electrolyte, and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The anode is known as the reducing agent, because it loses electrons. But do we know what it means
for a battery to be dead? Well, as the anode and cathode are connected to a circuit and a chemical
reaction takes place between the anode and the electrolyte, the reaction causes electrons to race
through the circuit and back into the cathode where another chemical reaction takes place. When the
material in the cathode or anode gets to the point where it is consumed or no longer able to be used in
the reaction, the battery is unable to produce electricity. At that point, your battery is officially
considered dead (Hymel 2016). More recently, in 1980, an American physicist Professor John
Goodenough invented the lithium battery. As lithium is one of the lightest elements on the period table
and being its electrochemical potential is extremely high, the combination produces some of the
highest possible voltages in the most compact and lightest volumes (Alarco 2015). There is an
unfortunate decent balance between advantages and disadvantage for lithium batteries. An advantage
is that its low maintenance, therefore the batteries don t exhibit a phenomenon known as the Memory

Host Family Narrative
It has been a long time I have not talked to her since I graduated from high school. She was my last
host family during high school year. Her name is Kim Helvaty and she currently lives in Brownsburg
in Indiana. I used to talk to her a lot because she is easy to talk to. Also, since she was my guardian, I
had to update my plan to her so I had much time to talk to her. However, I came to the university, and
everything is totally different than high school. I am so thankful to all my host family because I could
adapt well to the new place in different state without guardians. On March 6th, I called to Kim
through Facetime. I was nervous at first because I have not seen her for a while. However, at the same
time, I was also excited to see and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, she did not know who to live with them. Luckily, I got along with Kate from soccer team
and Kate always told her family about me that how she wanted to host me. So her family decided to
host me my senior year because she and her family thought that I fit well on with them. Fortunately, I
was looking somebody else as well to stay so it worked out wonderfully. She said, Aww, We miss you!
, The room is very same as when you left. I miss the day when I stayed with them. I realized that I had
really good time with good people. Also, they care of me because I got to know some parents from
kids, and one of them has been asking Kim that, How JiYeong is going with the winter up there? The
school where I went was very much connected to each others and they take care of

What Is The American Sniper Persuasive Essay
In the autobiography American Sniper by Chris Kyle. Chris had a problem with what comes first in
life. His mind was set on God, country, and family. While his wife believed it was God, family, and
country. Chris had an issue with when killing was justified. He wanted to kill all the people he saw in
the other countries because of their ethnicity and beliefs. Last, the most effective branch of service is
the Navy Seals.
Chris s priorities are God, country, and family. These priorities should be God, family, and country. It
should be this way because God is our creator and gave us life. Then, family they are the ones that are
always there for us giving love and support. Families need both parents. Even if they are together, but
one being away for long periods of time affects the children. Children need both parents in their lives.
The reason children need both their parents to have role models and teach them. Having one parent
there doesn t teach them everything they need to know. Lastly, it should be country. If your country
desperately needs you to fight for it then you can go fight to defend your homeland. If you don t have
to fight you should stay home and go to work to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the memoir, Chris wanted to kill all the people in the other countries because he hated them because
of their ethnicity and beliefs. An example is he wanted permission to snipe anyone holding a Qur an.
He did snipe and kill people that threatened him, but he also did snipe people that were bad but were
not threatening him. Killing should only be justified when it is to save your life. If you just want to kill
someone because of their ethnicity that is not right. If they were trying to kill you then you have to
protect yourself. Chris has one of the highest killing rates in Navy Seals. He still felt he had not killed
enough enemies because they were still killing

I Am Malal The Girl Who Was Shot By The Taliban
If asked to identify a great leader, we might immediately think of someone like Nelson Mandela or
Martin Luther King Jr., but it is unlikely that in our traditional view of leadership we would jump to
the thought of a young girl from a village in Pakistan. I am Malala: The Girl Who was Shot by the
Taliban redirects our thinking to just such an idea of a great leader (Yousafzai Lamb, 2013). Malala
shows leadership well beyond her years. She perseveres through dangerous situations to stand up for
her beliefs, and her dedication to making education available to all children is truly inspiring. Malala s
story draws you in from an account of her birth. When I was born, people in our village commiserated
with my mother and nobody congratulated my father (Yousafzai Lamb, 2013, p. 13). Malala s life
started out like any other in the Swat Valley, now part of Pakistan. Girls were not celebrated at birth
like their male counterparts. However, Malala s father was different. Zaiuddin Yousafzai not only
celebrated his daughter s birth, he saw that there was something unique about her from the very
beginning. Malala and her father had a very special relationship. He, unlike many fathers in Pakistan,
respected his daughter and contributed to Malala becoming educated and independent. Prior to Malala
s birth, Zaiuddin Yousafzai founded a school and as a teacher continued to be a voice for education in
a country where education is not valued. He stood strong against the

Western Religion Essay
Throughout this semester we focused on numerous different religious practices and traditions.
Focusing now on these new religious ideals and practices has provided many different suggestions
towards spirituality: Spirituality is personal, unique, self validating, authentic, and authoritative,
whereas religion is institutional, bureaucratic, social, inflexible hierarchical, and authoritarian
(Anderson and Young 295). Many of these new practices involve women, healing methods, and
alternative divine figures. Overall, it is a common theme from many of these spiritual practices to not
have a set textual religious book such as a Bible or Torah. In addition, they do not look up to a
spiritual figure, or have set rituals or practices: New Age ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In specific, with the Wiccan women: Wiccans are cautious about their relationships with others and
especially cognizant of their relationship with the earth (Anderson and Young 307). Along with this,
they believe: What you do, whether for good or for ill, returns to you (Anderson and Young 307). This
practice is stemmed from their Rule of Three. This rule is generalized as: being careful for the things
we wish for in life, as well as how actions can create consequences. These consequences in large can
create a chain reaction in consequences broadly on the world. Along with this, magic or magick is an
important aspect of Wiccans: Magic usually refers to the ability to affect the outcomes of events
through communal or individual thought and ritual action (Anderson and Young 309). In correlation to
the magic aspect of the Wiccan spirituality, many members call themselves witches. With this title,
many cast spells and use the magic to work through the conscience of members. However this specific
practice of spell work is not required. As many people believe magic to be a sinister act or something
out of a fictional story, that speculation can be reflected on to this Wiccan act: Magic is usually
contrasted with religion: magic is seen as a way of manipulating the universe by using specific spells,
whereas religion does not use the universe as ultimately manipulable in this way (Anderson and
Young 309). However the Wiccan s loophole to this statement refers to the fact that their magic is less
about manipulation and more about using the power to evoke positive changes to the world. This
magical practice gives rise and support to the enchanted world they believe to live in rather than the
cold world. Diving deeper into this spiritual practice brought some confusion and questionability to
mind. Although I believe there could be many

How Did Peter The Great Possess A Strong Military
During Peter the Great s reign, Russia flourished. Peter accomplished many goals, making Russia one
of the most powerful countries at the time. Peter the Great was a czar of Russia who ruled from 1682
1725. Before peter s reign, Russia did not possess a stable economy as well as military. Russia was in
a disorganized state.
Before the reign of peter the Great, Russia was in a poor state. Russia did not possess a strong military
as well as an education system. Peter established a regular Army on completely modern lines for
Russia . This quote tells us that before the reign of Peter the Great, Russia did not possess a strong
Military. A country without a strong or stable military can be crucial because that can potentially cause

Peter died leaving a positive influence. Peter built ties between Russia and Western countries. This left
a big impact because cultural diffusion was occurring. Cultural diffusion is a good thing because that
means people can exchange knowledge. Knowledge exchange can be beneficial to a country. Also,
having alliances with other countries can be excellent. If Russia were to be invaded, their Allies would
help them out and vice versa. Peter built ties because he knew it would be valuable in the long run.
Peter the Great created the table of ranks which allowed people to move up in the social class. Peter
gave people opportunities to prove that they deserve to be moved up in the social classes. This
obviously made Russian citizens very happy. They had tremendous respect for Peter. This is one of the
reasons why Peter was one of the most respected Czars in Russia s time. He developed progress in the
development of the national economy, trade, education, science, culture, and foreign policy. This led
Russia to be one of the greatest countries in Europe. Peter improved his society by using his power. If
peter wasn t a czar of his time, people would not be able to advance in their education. The economy
would be a downfall. Also there would be no cultural diffusion. Peter the Great really did leave a huge
impact on his country and

It shows that Paris was a very busy city in the 1890s. As the painting was created from him looking
outside his window in his hotel, his attitude toward his painting is to capture and paint the details of
the boulevard that he see outside his window. This mood and narrative tone in the painting is both
somber and peaceful. This is because it represents a peaceful street in the winter, but also is painted in
colors that feel somber to me. The Boulevard Montmartre on the Morning Winter is a streetscape
painting. The Boulevard Montmartre on the Morning Winter belongs in the Impressionist Movement.
During the Impressionist Movement, the impressionist will always paint their paintings with multiple

Kate Chopin s An Hour
Author Kate Chopin is famous for some of the most influential feminist stories and novels in the
Western canon. The Story of an Hour is one such text. In this story, Chopin tackles many of the
concerns that are essential to feminism, including the willpower and expression of a woman s
distinctive identity separate from the identity of her husband and the right of a woman to identify and
experience her own interests. While there is an aspect of this story that is provocative, namely, that
Mrs. Mallard feels excited after learning that her husband has died, the reader can empathize with
Mrs. Mallard s feelings and support her.
Critics on Kate Chopin seem to focus their criticism on her themes and particular text than her overall
writing skills. One popular book for critics seems to be her novel The Awakening. The book is now
herald as her greatest work, yet when it was written reviewers rejected it for its improper and vulgar
subject matter (Stripe). One critic deems it not a healthy book, and another determine that it leaves one
sick of human nature. One writer even said the language to describe the story was not fit for
publication (Stripe). But today The Awakening is widely embraced, and one critic in embracing the
book said, Mrs. Kate Chopin s The Awakening, seems to me to be the finest novel of its sort written by
an American, and to rank among the world s masterpieces of short fiction (Cantwell).
The short story is a powerful tale about a woman, Mrs.

  • 2. The Similarities Between Mars And Mars Mars, the red planet, and fourth planet from the sun. What is Mars really like, is it cold or hot, wet or dry? Can humans live on Mars, and if so how? For decades scientists have been studying Mars, they have been using rovers and from there they collected data, samples, and took pictures. These rovers study Mars atmosphere, temperatures, weather, if it has water, and a lot more. With all of the data the scientists have gathered we know that Mars atmosphere is a lot different than our, yet still has similarities. Even though Earth and Mars are in the same solar system and orbit the same sun, Mars atmosphere and the planet itself is a lot different from Earth. Mars is 142 million miles away from the sun, with a year being 687 days long. It is about half of Earth s size, and is one tenth of Earth s mass. Mars atmosphere is carbon based, containing 95.3% carbon dioxide, and also it only has .3% water vapor (Source for %). The average temperature on Mars is 81 degrees Fahrenheit which is approximately 62 degrees Celsius (NASA). Mars atmosphere is also very thin, so it does not allow liquid water to exist at the surface for long (Newsela). Also Mars has a lot less gravity, Earth has 62.5% more gravity than Mars does (NASA). Mars environment would not be very hospitable for human life. Earth also differs a lot from Mars, Earth is 78.1% nitrogen, and 20.9% oxygen, and isn t carbon based (Source for %). • 3. How Did Marilyn Monroe Influence Society She was the biggest movie goddess, the prime sex symbol to be alive at her time; Marilyn Monroe was desired by many men, and is still an inspiration to many generations of women. Even after more than fifty years after her death, she still continues to be an unrivaled fashion and movie icon. Even though, Marilyn Monroe is not alive today, she still continues to influence today s society by defying the typical model standard. Marilyn Monroe was born Norma Jeane Baker on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California. During her early years she overcame many hardships. Marilyn s father deserted the family before her birth, so she spent most of her childhood not knowing her father s identity. There are two possibilities Edward Mortenson, who was named on her birth certificate, and Stanley Gifford, who worked with her mother Gladys. Marilyn moved between many foster homes, when her mother was sent to a mental hospital after developing psychiatric problems. Eventually, Grace Mckee, her mom s best friend, became her guardian. Mckee allowed nine year old Marilyn to curl her hair and wear makeup until Mckee married and sent her to an orphanage. She was then sent to live with her great aunt, Olive Brunings, and it was thought that Marilyn was sexually assaulted by Olive s son. When Marilyn was sixteen she escaped her former life by marrying Jim Dougherty, a twenty one year old aircraft plant worker, who she sadly divorced four years later. By this time she had begun posing for pin ups ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Anglo Saxon poetry survives almost entirely in four manuscripts. Beowulf is the oldest surviving Germanic epic and the longest Old English poem; other great works include The Wanderer, The Battle of Maldon, and The Dream of the Rood. Notable prose includes the Anglo Saxon Chronicle, a historical record begun about the time of King Alfred´s reign (871 899) and continuing for more than three centuries. The Renaissance and Reformism The reformation, owing both to the wishes of its academic founders and to the popular tendencies underlying it, concerned itself largely with popular preaching. It is a widespread error to assume that there was little popular preaching in the Middle Ages. It is true that there were many bishops and parish priests who shirked their canonical duties in this respect, but there was much popular instruction; there was, especially among the friars, much simple, at times even sensational, mission preaching. But the deepening of religious life that preceded the reformation led men to employ with greater diligence all means of helping others, and popular preaching was thus more widely used. Here again, both a conservative and a revolutionary tendency are observable. On the one hand, we can trace the fuller but continuous history of the older use of sermons. On the other hand, we find the tendency, seen at its strongest in Zwinglianism, to exalt the sermon above the sacraments, to put the pulpit in place of the altar. Both tendencies made the literature of sermons more popular, and more significant. But, in the literature thus revived, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Descriptive Essay On Coming To School And The forecast today will be bright and sunny! My mother turned off the television and told be to get my backpack, for it was time to head to school. It was a new school year, and just starting the sixth grade. I was new to the district last year, so I have only made a handful of friends . My mom sends me off to the bus, and I look up at the sky. It was dark and cloudy, it seemed as if it would rain. I sighed, and I get onto the morning bus. I walked into the building i ve managed to become so familiar with during the last school year. Heading into the sixth grade wing, I find my locker, and open it with ease. The girl next to me didn t have the same luck. I snicker at her struggle, then I offer some help. She more than willingly handed me her locker combination, and I open her locker for her. She thanks me and I headed into my class. I look around, the buzzing of voices swirled in my head. • 8. The Criminal Justice System Across The Country Essay The criminal justice system across the country is designed to punish and strive to rehabilitate those who have committed offenses against the law. Compared to some of the harshest regimes in the world, the United States has a harsh history of mass incarceration. American prisons maintain nearly 25 percent of the world s prison population. Of the nearly 2.3 million incarcerated, 1 million are African Americans (NAACP). The poverty stricken in America, especially those who are persons of color, face a greater risk of incarcerated for minor offenses than their white counterparts. People charged and or convicted of crimes are overwhelmingly poor. The Prison Policy Initiative finds that incarcerated people have a median annual income of $19,185 prior to their incarceration which is 41% less than that of non incarcerated individuals of a similar age ( Prisons of Poverty ). Both race and socio economic status plays a critical role in the inequality that takes place in the criminal justice systems. Over the last half century, the total number of those imprisoned has spiked dramatically as crime rates have sharply dropped since the early 1990 s. Experts offer varied explanations for the troubling growth of the American prison industrial complex, including the War on Drugs, harsh mandatory minimum sentences and a system largely incapable of handling suspects with mental health issues (Lee). The efficient market theory had a large following in the 1970s although in the 1980s this theory became problematic as the theory didn t explain the volatility of the actual stock market. Shiller argued that efficient market model needed to be grounded more in reality. Behavioural finance was a solution that many looked to and is becoming a favourable model, as it looks at finance from a broader perspective involving psychology and sociology. Speculative bubbles can be a result of feedback if there is no intervention. These bubbles can occur on a small scale affecting the price of the daily market, but the effect can be as dire a global financial crisis due to human interactions. Feedback is due to cognitive psychology, as humans we seek out the patterns which have the greatest amount of similarities from the past. A study from Marimon, Speak and Sunder (dsdidsi) reinforces this idea as subjects are familiarised with the past performance of the stock market fostering expectations of a bubble. Investors act upon long terms trends rather than reacting to daily changes. Futhermore Daniel, Hirshleifer and Subramanyam (dasdadh) believe that biased self attribution contributes to feedback. It needs to be considered than investors don t automatically. If there is a surprising disturbance in a determinant of demand other than feedback it can be magnified for some time affecting prices and thus future prices through a distributed lag. The feedback model doesn t show substantial serial correlation in contrast to what is widely believed especially when we have information about the determinants of demand. There are double standards against women in magazines, on TV, in movies, the news, politics, and the workplace. The media is an influential part of modern culture. When women are portrayed as objects for men to use never as the protagonist or president and when female news anchors are objectified, this will cause girls of all ages to begin viewing themselves as objects. • 14. Sociological Analysis Of Private Troubles In The Military 1. Sociological Concept: The book defines private troubles as, problems we face in our immediate relationships with particular individuals in our personal lives (Witt, 2016, p. 3). Example: The example I found for private troubles are flyers posted on every bulletin board in every work center at Eielson Air Force Base. The flyers are made by the base chaplain and mental health clinic. The flyers are there to provide the phone numbers of people to contact who can help with private troubles. Sociological Analysis: The reason I picked these flyers to use for private troubles is that mental health and resiliency are stressed so much not only in the Air Force but in the military as a whole. Members of the military face private troubles on a daily basis, mainly with their family life or their coworkers. As a member of the military, we cannot do our job to the best of our ability if we are always thinking about the private troubles of a marriage failing or not getting along with co works. So, to have support from the office of the chaplain and the mental health clinic is crucial to the well being of the military. In some cases, it is very obvious that a person is going through private troubles and others can do a very good job of hiding it. To have resources so readily available and willing to help with our private troubles is very important. 2. It means trying to hold on to physical life amid psychological death. It means the pain of watching your children grow up with clouds of inferiority in their mental skies. It means having their legs off, and then being condemned for being a cripple. This quote pretty much summed up the way in which African Americans felt during the 1960 s. They had basically no meaning to life. They were irrelevant. Whites wanted no part in them. This was especially the case in the state of Mississippi. Anne Moody, writer of the autobiography, Coming of Age in Mississippi explains the importance of the civil rights movement in the state of Mississippi and the influence it had on her life and her viewpoint. Growing up as a poor African American in Mississippi was not always an easy, especially in the 1960 s. It was a time where everyone was segregated. Blacks and whites were treated completely different. They weren t allowed to eat at the same restaurants, go into the same bathroom, or even drink from the same water fountain. Anne Moody did just that. As just a young girl being raised by extremely poor black family in the South, she personally experienced the difference between the lives of blacks and whites. Bouche and Johnson investigated fascial traction, by inserting strain gauges in cadavers to measure tension on the tibial fascial attachment at the medial tibial crest. He feels free of the bars society has constructed, he is free of all concerns and worries. the infinite space he describes indicates a place with no restrictions, where he can be as he ought to, to see the glory and majesty of nature. Emerson also notes that selfishness dissolves as the figurative big picture is made visible. Again, being in this situation enables a man to realize his insignificance as a single being. I become a transparent eyeball. I am nothing. I see all. This metaphor embodies the basis of Emerson s entire philosophy. Enlargement Of The European Union Introduction The European Union (EU), which began through the integration of six member states in 1951, welcomed its latest member, Croatia, in 2013, effectively bringing its total to twenty eight members (Verdun, July 23, 2015). The first EU enlargement occurred in 1973, when the UK, Ireland, and Denmark joined the union. Since then, four major enlargements have taken place, despite the long existent controversies regarding the possible value or downfalls of the expansion of the union. With over twenty more countries within the continent as possible candidates, especially as many express interest of joining, it is highly possible that efforts for further enlargement may be made in the future. The question, however, is whether EU ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of high concern, is whether the union can accommodate more diversity. Respecting and protecting minorities for the EU has been an ongoing challenge. Anti immigration is a common phenomenon, and although efforts have been made to increase acceptance, it is a challenge that may be further induced as new member states join. The candidacy of Turkey, for example, has resulted to increased anti Muslim attitudes. It is therefore questionable whether EU should pursue further enlargement in the near future, or whether it should first address the internal challenges it is currently facing prior to greater expansion. Background Economic Implications for Pre Existing and New Member States Many studies exploring the implications of further EU enlargement focus on the possible economic consequences. From liberal perspective further enlargement would mutually benefit all the member countries economically (Cohn, 2012). Often, it is argued that new members joining the union are positively affected, whereas pre existing countries suffer financial losses (Neueder, 2003). However, studies suggest that although new members experience the most economic benefits by gaining membership, pre existing members are positively impacted as well. • 32. The Problem Of Traffic Lights The idea for traffic lights began in the mid 1800s when a system was essential to sustain the amassed flow of horse drawn traffic flow. By 1868, a signal was put in by the intersection of George St and Bridge St, which is close to the Parliament. The installment provided pedestrians a safe crossing, and an answer to officials that need to sustain traffic. The semaphore involves a signal of a tall post with movable arm. When the arm is aligned sideways, it mean stop. After dark, a gas lamp was lit at the top. The green lenses means to go, and red means stop. Originally, the signal is controlled by hand, and the officers decided when the signal to be changed according to traffic flow. They would also whistle to remind drivers, when the signal will change. However, this method turned out to be hazardous. In 1869, a leak in one of the gas lines led to a traffic signal explosion. The incident severely wounding the policeman operating it, and led to the semaphore project to be terminated in London. In America, the semaphore were be rolled out to public because there were more motorists travelling on the road. However, many problems arose due to officers finding it to be difficult to sustain the traffic congestion. Some cities started to install traffic towers, which allowed officers to have a clearer view to monitor the traffic in an elevated platform. Hamlet emphasises his mother s sexuality as being animalistic when confronting the King and Queen about their incestual marriage, stating that she would hang on him/As if increase of appetite had grown/by what it fed on (1.2.143). In Elizabethan England, it was considered indecent and illegal to carry out an act of incest and, by copulating the marriage, Gertrude is acting in a way that does not show any reasoning. Specifically, with a strike such as a punch, kick, knife hand or similar, the karateka attempts to move smoothly through the strikes, conserving energy towards the impact point. When thought about in terms of energy, the most common equation is that of rotational kinetic energy, or KE=(1/2)mv^2 + (1/2)Iω^2. Another way to think about a strike is to attempt to focus as much force as possible at the point of impact. In many strikes, this is facilitated by drawing an almost straight line with the striking tool from the original point of rest to the point of impact. This is based on the ... Because this is a stable stance, the various forces acting on the body must be equalized somehow. The main force is the one caused by extension of the back leg into the ground (a). We couldn t power a toy truck nor a hearing aid without them yet we disrespect the honor of one of the most genius and important inventions in history. But do we know what it means for a battery to be dead? Well, as the anode and cathode are connected to a circuit and a chemical reaction takes place between the anode and the electrolyte, the reaction causes electrons to race through the circuit and back into the cathode where another chemical reaction takes place. When the material in the cathode or anode gets to the point where it is consumed or no longer able to be used in the reaction, the battery is unable to produce electricity. At that point, your battery is officially considered dead (Hymel 2016). More recently, in 1980, an American physicist Professor John Goodenough invented the lithium battery. As lithium is one of the lightest elements on the period table and being its electrochemical potential is extremely high, the combination produces some of the highest possible voltages in the most compact and lightest volumes (Alarco 2015). Along with this, they believe: What you do, whether for good or for ill, returns to you (Anderson and Young 307). This practice is stemmed from their Rule of Three. This rule is generalized as: being careful for the things we wish for in life, as well as how actions can create consequences. These consequences in large can create a chain reaction in consequences broadly on the world. Along with this, magic or magick is an important aspect of Wiccans: Magic usually refers to the ability to affect the outcomes of events through communal or individual thought and ritual action (Anderson and Young 309). In correlation to the magic aspect of the Wiccan spirituality, many members call themselves witches. With this title, many cast spells and use the magic to work through the conscience of members. However this specific practice of spell work is not required. As many people believe magic to be a sinister act or something out of a fictional story, that speculation can be reflected on to this Wiccan act: Magic is usually contrasted with religion: magic is seen as a way of manipulating the universe by using specific spells, whereas religion does not use the universe as ultimately manipulable in this way (Anderson and Young 309). However the Wiccan s loophole to this statement refers to the fact that their magic is less about manipulation and more about using the power to evoke positive changes to the world.
