Relin and Greg Mortenson is a nonfiction book published in 2007 that has taken the world by storm.
The book takes an in depth look at the life of Greg Mortenson and his transition from a nurse and
mountain climber to a dedicated humanitarian striving to cease all poverty and terrorism. The book s
title oriented from a quote by Haji Ali. The first time you share tea with Balti, you are a stranger. The

A few of the hundreds of NGO s operating in Afghanistan include the World Health Organization,
World Bank, British Agencies Afghan group, and Afghans for Civil Society. While each of these
organizations takes on the battle in a different way, they are all aiming towards the same goal at the
end of the fight; Peace for the Afghan people. Some of these organizations decide to take on this battle
by aiding with things such as health care, agricultural development, building programs, emergency
relief, or school reconstruction. Despite the efforts of these NGO s, many problems have arisen,
making it hard to maintain ideal structural stability for the organizations working within the state. A
main concern for humanitarians across the globe is the blurred line that has occurred as a result of the
inability to decipher between aid workers, and military troops. This has caused the Afghan people to
become vary, and can result in a lack of trust for those trying to administer support. Western
governments have also proceeded to voice the idea of the comprehensive approach to peacekeeping.
This approach focuses on the idea that militaries, aid workers, politicians and civilians should all work
together to provide complex solutions to complex emergencies. ( Civil Military Relations in
Afghanistan ). The inability to disentangle the

The Beauty Myth Naomi Wolf
The Beauty Myth is a reading that talked about the standard that men decide is necessary to be
beautiful. Naomi Wolf shows us how as women have become more liberated the standards of what
makes a women considered beautiful have become stricter. Throughout her story Wolf shares with us
that beauty is completely subjective in that it changes with cultures and with age. Women were
actively gaining more legal and material rights through the women s movement. Wolf states, Many
women that women s collective progress has stalled; compared with the heady momentum of earlier
days, there is a dispiriting climate of confusion, division, cynicism, and above all, exhaustion. (10 p.2)
As the movement had died down women were beginning to feel that effects

Billie Jo s Piano Playing In Out Of The Dust By Karen Hesse
In the book Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse, it shows how a girl and her family had been affected by
the Dust Bowl. The Dust Bowl had destroyed their crops leaving them with little to no income. The
Dust Bowl caused hardships that they had to experience and work through. I am going to explain how
Billie Jo s piano playing is tied to other good and bad things in hers and the families life. Her piano
playing is positive in the beginning, separated in the middle, and rediscovered in the end.
There are a couple of ways that Billie Jo s piano playing is important to her during the beginning of
Out of the Dust. The first way that piano playing is important is because when her mom plays the

Billie Jo s hands became burnt and it killed her to even try to play piano. I cleaned off the keys but
when I played, a tortured sound came from the piano, like someone was shrieking. (pg. 63 64) The
mother s face got burnt so bad that sometimes it was hard for the father and Billie Jo to even recognize
her anymore. This caused the father to have depression and he started to use drinking alcohol as a
coping mechanism. Sometimes he even left Billie Jo home alone to take care of the mother while he
was out drinking. Then Billie Jo s mother died giving birth to her baby brother and Billie Jo couldn t
stand being in the same room as the piano that her mom played. Now I can t hardly stay in the same
room with one, especially Ma s. (pg. 87) Then Billie Jo decides to go back and play on a different
piano then the one that is at her own house. She was so happy to hear a piano again after dealing with
the loss of her mom and the loss of her baby brother. The relief I felt to hear the sound of music after

The Ongoing Tyranny Of Statistical Significance Testing
Article by Stang, Poole and Kuss (2010) titled The ongoing tyranny of statistical significance testing
in biomedical research describe common misuses and interpretation of statistical significance testing
(SST). The authors point out fallacy understanding in interpretive the p value and how it often mixed
in measuring effect size and its precision. This misconception then they assert may impede scientific
progress and furthermore become unintended harmful treatment. They also proposed an important
way out of the significance fallacies in this article. Therefore, in this article review, all the finding that
made by the authors will be summarized and review of it will be drawn based on other references.
1. Statistical Significance Test (SST) and P value
Stang, Poole and Kuss explain, in SST, P value is an important part to decide the null hypothesis. The
SST itself, they explain is analytical approach that developed based on two prominent statisticians,
Fisher and the Neyman Pearson. However, in present practical, SST is incompatible amalgamation of
those two theories. In Fisher theory, P value represents the strength of evidence against the null
hypothesis: the lower the P value, the stronger the evidence. In this theory, they criticize lake of
alternative hypothesis and concept of statistical power. In contrast Neyman and Person theory
included the alternative for the null hypothesis, type I and II error and theoretical of effect size. This
hybrid method leads to

Australian Indigenous Rights
Aboriginal civil rights have been a highly debated topic in Australia for the past century. From the
1920 s to the constitutional referendum in 1967 many events occurred that shaped the advancement of
Aboriginal rights. The sheer volume of significant events during this time period are too great to
enlighten on all of them so I will aim to touch on the rights of Aboriginal people before this time
period, the foundation of Aboriginal political activism, the Day of Mourning and the Cummeragunja
walk off, International pressure against Australia, and the 1967 referendum. It was not until the late
1930 s and 1940 s that really caused the Aboriginal rights movement to really surge with the

The main importance of this group was essentially being one of the first Aboriginal political
organizations to form to take action against state and federal legislation in Australia.
During the 1920 s and 1930 s Australia began to see a rise in political activism among the Aboriginal
people. During this time period Australia saw Aboriginal political organizations being founded in New
South Wales, Western Australia, Victoria, and South Australia: the AAPA, The Native Union, the
AAL, the Australian Aborigines Association (AAA), the Euralian Association, and the Aborigines
Progressive Association (APA) (Attwood, 1999). All of these political organizations fought for similar
rights for aboriginal people, but they were all fought on local levels. The two organizations that were
somewhat successful at becoming national organizations and representing Aborigines throughout
Australia were the Australian Aborigines League and the Aborigines Progressive Association. Both
groups fought for similar causes. These two groups although advocating for policy change in different
regions of Australia worked together and organized two significant events that occurred during the
1930 s.
Arthur Burdeu was considered the creator of the Australian Aborigines League, which formed in the
1930 s. The major significance that lead to the AAL becoming a national organization rather than a
local organization was set in how the members viewed the role of the League. Arthur Burdeu

How Did Charles Darwin Contribute To Science
It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive
to change, this was said by Charles Darwin, a naturalist who developed the theory of evolution to
explain biological change. Almost all things are somehow affected or reshaped entirely by scientific
advances. Science plays a huge role in everyone and every things life. There are many scientist who
have discovered, helped advance, or even invented incredible things. And in the top 100 influential
scientist sits Charles Darwin. Just like any other scientist, his studies open doors to many more. His
research and visions of common ancestry revolutionized studies in comparative anatomy, embryology,
and taxonomy, and has brought together the basic rule of all biology. But Darwin s innovative idea of
the process of evolution was received cautiously and remains in the minds of many scientist today. His
idea made a huge leap, but there was a missing puzzle piece that was found by scientist Gregor
Mendel who figured out that heredity depends on genes. So without Darwin s grand theory many
discoveries enabled by the application of evolutionary tools would have not been made. Darwin s
ideas have been enhanced and modified as new knowledge and technologies have become ... Show

Even though this branch took awhile to fully developed most of it was based off of Darwinian
concepts. Another side of philosophy of biology deals with the role of laws. In physical sciences laws
are the bases of theories like the law of motion lead to the theory of gravity. But in evolutionary
biology theories are widely based on concepts like female choice, dominance and succession, and
selection. Over the past century a pronounced change in the methodology in biology took place.
Darwin did not directly cause this change but he did strengthened by his developments in evolutionary
biology (Mayr).

European Witch Hunts Essay
European Witch Hunts
Witch hunts blazed across Europe over the fifteenth to eighteenth centuries not just killing
innumerable innocent people, but stripping women of much of the power they had once held, and
changing society s perceptions of women all together. The economic hardships, religious rivalries, and
troubled politics of the time made accusing your neighbors of witchcraft convenient. Where there was
war and poverty, or merely bad luck, peasants would assume witchcraft and rush to blame an old,
defenseless woman in trials which involved unbelievable cruelty and horrible sadism. As religion and
the Catholic Church began to complement and perpetuate the increasing hysteria, European society as
a whole could do nothing but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the witch hunts, women were the primary target; most victims being midwives, native
healers, single women who lived alone, people against whom neighbors had a grudge or practitioners
of ancient pagan rituals. Although not all were women, 75 to 90% of accused witches were in fact
women (Levack,. p. 124), forcing one to question the affects of the harsh portrayal of women being
placed on women.
Prior to the fifteenth century, rural European women were highly revered and respected pillars of rural
community life; not only considered mothers and wives, but seen as community leaders, physicians,
and sources of strength and wisdom. Women had a special and imperative role in rural life, and even
those that lived on the fringes of society were well respected as the village healers and wise women.
These old women would possess the wisdom of the ages and pass it on to others. This respect for
women quickly deteriorated, however, during the witch hunts. The belief spread that women were
morally weaker than men and driven by carnal lust, therefore making them more susceptible to being
tempted by the Devil, and thus practicing witchcraft. (Levack p. 126) As people took this belief to
heart, it is apparent that society would be affected indefinitely by such intolerance.
The witch hunts that blazed across Europe for centuries not only saw the death of millions of women
but also served to set a

15 million of those individuals are children? (Hunger In America 2014). The month of September was
Hunger Action month and many individuals helped raise awareness by taking the Food Stamp (SNAP)
Challenge. This challenge consists of an individual living on the SNAP balance of a $6 7 per day
budget for food. Many individuals came to the realization that this is a difficult budget, and does not
meet the nutritional needs for a family. Personally, I could not take the challenge. However, I did set
up a budget plan for what I could spend on food for a week. To begin with, personally, I like to shop at
Aldi. A lot of the foods are knock off brand, and are a few dollars cheaper. For breakfast, I could
purchase a box of cereal for $1.69 2. For lunch, I could purchase a can of soup or noodles for $1. Then
for dinner, I could fry a pack of chicken for $2.29 (Aldi vs. Walmart). With tax added, I could possibly

their thoughts on this problem of people living on such a small budget. On Twitter, the poll was 50/50.

Kate Campbell 2017). Then on Facebook, 7 out of 9 friends stated that the SNAP challenge can be
done. Some of the individuals even stated that they are/or have lived on this budget before. However,
two friends brought up the fact that individuals taking the challenge or who live on this budget have to
grocery shop intellectually. Many individuals can buy junk food which does not nutritionally feed a
family. The other friend also brought up the topic and fear that many individuals can misuse the
welfare system (Anna Kate Campbell

Paul s View On The Law Essay
Paul has used the law in many circumstances throughout his epistles. He also discusses the
implications of the law and its relation to believers. Paul s view on the law has been a conversation
held by many New Testament scholars. Some suggest that Paul s views on the law is inconsistent
throughout the epistles but by a careful analysis will show that his views are complementary rather
than inconsistent. A main issue that Paul argued was that we are justified by faith in Christ and not by
doing the works of the law. Paul view of the law was that nobody can be saved by obedience to the
law but only by faith in Christ can one be saved. Three theological stands that have strong interest
with Paul view of the law are those of Lutheranism, Reformed and The so called New Perspective of
Paul. The Lutheranism believes that it is Paul s belief that Christ abolished the law and that the law is
an argument contrast of the gospel (Crandell 2014). The main role of the law is to display our
hopefulness in efforts of obedience in order to obtain God s acceptance and should cause us to desire
from God a mercy that is only found in Christ. The Reformed view sees salvation as something that is
of grace and not nothing that involves obeying the law but once saved we must only obey the moral
law in order to be pleasing to God (Rosner 2013). Lastly this New Perspective of Paul believers that
Paul s problem with the law was not a matter of salvation being by grace rather

Week 6 Case Analysis

1. Harris told Houston that he needed a couple of weeks to think about his proposal. How should

Harris is using what is called a time objection also known as stalling technique. In this particular case
study Harris already has the need fulfilled by a different supplier and while they have had a few late
deliveries Harris need to determine if it worth going through all of the work to get set up a new

After uncovering any further objections and gaining an understanding of where Harris sits, Houston
could begin to press and push for a sense of urgency. If Harris did not have any doubts there would be
no need for a two week period to think. Pushing can be a sensitive task because if Houston pushes too
hard he could destroy his relationship and his chance of doing business with the buyer. If all else fails
and the buyer insists on taking time to think Houston should establish a firm follow up appointment as
soon as possible.
3. What techniques should Houston have used to overcome the fore stalling tactic?
There are certain times in which it is impossible to prevent forestalling, but there are things a sales
person can do to try and prevent objections. Utilizing the LAARC method gives is a good step in
combating resistance and objections. The LAARC methods uses five steps to avoid objections which
are to listen, acknowledge, assess, respond and confirm. Listening is always the most important part of
sales. Buyer will often tell you exactly what they are looking for if you keep you mouth shut and
listen. Active listening shows respect as well as arms a sales person will exactly what the buyer is

Security Analysis of an Electronic Voting System
Abstract
Fundamental right to vote or simply voting in elections forms the basis of democracy. Electronic
Voting Machine (EVM) is a simple electronic device used to record votes in place of ballot papers and
boxes which were used earlier in conventional voting system .With significant U.S. federal funds we
now have replaced the outdated punch card and mechanical voting systems, and are adopting
paperless electronic voting systems from a number of different vendors. My analysis shows that this
voting system is below the minimal security standards. Threats of computer viruses or hacker
orchestrated attacks are most commonly mentioned as problems that could compromise an election
and public confidence in electronic voting. Other potential technical problems or issues include power
outages or malfunctions in Internet connectivity as well as the possibility of servers shutting down or
crashing. The reliable recording and storage of votes is also an important consideration, I conclude
that this voting system is unsuitable for use in a general election. Any paperless electronic voting
system might suffer similar flaws, despite any certification it could have otherwise received. I suggest
that the best solutions are voting systems having a voter verifiable audit trail, where a computerized
voting system might print a paper ballot that can be read and verified

High School Life Analysis
Four years ago, we, the students of the class of twenty seventeen, began our journey a journey filled
with ups and downs; a journey filled with positive and negative emotions; a journey filled with
success and failure. It seems like it was just yesterday that we began this difficult yet rewarding
journey through high school. I remember the days when we were all freshmen, and we could not wait
for this moment to come. We were impatient continuously counting down the days, weeks, semesters,
and years until we would graduate.
Now, this day has finally come, but are we satisfied with the success that we have created for

Igor Stravinsky Controversy
The Rite of Spring was certainly the most controversial piece of orchestral music. The piece,
composed by Russian Composer Igor Stravinsky, included lots of uncommon musical elements. But
was it really that uncommon? The world changing ballet was so controversial when it debuted in
1913, because it completely contradicted the common rhythmic and harmonic languages of most of
the music of the time. Stravinsky s music, however, was based off early classical music and other
compositions written before, where these composers were also accused of composing controversial
music, plus Stravinsky s early life experiences impacted his music. Le Sacre du Printemps (The
original name) was one of the most controversial ballets in history. The 33 minute ... Show more

Johann Sebastian Bach also wrote lots of controversial music. Some of his keyboard words included
bended notes to resemble a specific string or woodwind technique. This was executed as too chromatic
and dissonant to most people and the church. At the time, this was uncommon and unaccepted from a
baroque composer, but clearly it wasn t thought of so bad for a while because Bach s death marked the
end of the Baroque era. Beethoven broke many rules too. His ninth symphony which was premiered in
1824 was nowhere near as unconventional of The Rite of Spring, however, at the time of Beethoven,
writing a symphony that was over an hour long, included a full chorus and vocal soloists, and was
expressive and romantic as it was, was in fact unconventional for his time. Beethoven s music was so
rebelliously emotional, the last seven years of his life marked the beginning of the Romantic era. This
meant that Beethoven s music was so influential and unique he started the world s brand new norm of
music in 1820, when the Romantic Era started. Stravinsky s composition took place at the end of the
romantic era and went into the 20th century era. It is not coincidental that these composers who were
shunned at the time ended up being so revolutionary and influential that a new musical age

The Three Little Pigs By Joseph Jacobs
The Three Little Pigs is a classic fairytale about three pigs who build each their own house, and the
wolf who tries to devour the pigs by blowing down their house. The Three Little Pigs has it origins
from James Orchard Halliwell in Popular Rhymes and Nursery Tales (1849) in England. Halliwell s
rendition was the first known print version in the world. Joseph Jacobs wrote the world s most popular
rendition in his English Fairy Tales (1898). In the 1880, Joel Chandler Harris made The Three Little
Pigs popular in the United States in Tales of Uncle Remus (1880). Walt Disney had a large influence
on The Three Little Pigs in 1933, when Disney made a short film of The Three Little Pigs in Disney s

Practical Pig attempts to warn the brothers saying, You can play and laugh and fiddle. Don t think you
can make me sore. I ll be safe and you ll be sorry when the Wolf comes through your door! (The Three

little resistance saying, I ll huff and I ll puff and I ll blow your house in. (The Three Little Pigs). Fifer
is able to elude the wolf and seek refuge in Fiddler s house. Next, the Wolf pretends to admit defeat

The Mandan Tribe is a society of Native Americans that have managed to survive for longer than three
centuries through many various hardships in their environments of North Dakota and South Dakota.
The Mandans have prospered due to their adaptable and unique civilization. They have anomalous
customs and cultures that make it easy to advance. Some of the most essential and important
information to include about them is how they have lived over the years. This involves their lifestyles,
history, and how they used their surroundings. The Mandan People are diverse in their lifestyles from

that they have made are the traditional Native American teepee which they only used for their

homes were called earth lodges and were extremely simplistic in design, yet functioned sufficiently.
The earth lodges were just holes in the ground with a kind of dome covered with dirt and materials of
that type. In the 19th century the Mandan lived in dome shaped earth lodges clustered in stockaded
villages; their economy centred on raising corn (maize), beans, pumpkins, sunflowers, and tobacco
and on hunting buffalo, fishing, and trading with nomadic Plains tribes (Source C). To make things
easier and more efficient the Mandans also were able to create weapons and tools. They were usually

different weapons were shields, clubs, and lances. Mandan hunters used bows and arrows. In war,

Nanocrystalline Materials Essay
Introduction To explain nanocrystalline materials, it should have been explained that nano concept at
first. Nanostructures are relatively new and interesting subject to investigate, they are in a scale which
is between 0 100 nanometers (1 nanometer, nm is equal to 10 9 meter). There are some types of
nanostructured materials such as lamellar (1 dimensional), filamentary (2 dimensional) and crystallites
(3 dimensional). If grains of the material are made up of crystals, then nanocrystalline materials term
is what they are called. In this case, nanocrystalline materials have grains which are the size of 100 nm
typically. An example of nanocrystalline material of SnO2 is imaged with STM as seen in Fig. 1 [1]
and SEM image of nanocrystalline diamond thin films as seen in Fig. 2. [2] Fig. 1. STM image of
nanocrystalline SnO2 [1] Fig. 2. SEM image of nanocrystalline diamond thin films. [2] In
nanocrystalline materials there are numerous superior properties which actually are very useful and
promising about future works and applications. The reason for the superior properties is that
nanocrystalline materials have very high number of atoms at their grain boundaries which are in
nanometer scale. Some of the properties that can be enhanced and increased by making
nanocrystalline materials rather than the coarse grained materials are higher strength, higher hardness,
increased diffusivity, increased mechanical properties and so on [3]. This is why people have studied

U.s. Federal Aid Programs
In recent years, the federal aid system has tripled in numbers in over 25 years. Some federal aid
programs can range from a giant billion to a more obscure prams such as $15 million. In the
beginning, federal aid programs would require other states to match the federal funds on a dollar for
dollar basis. There was initial struggle when the federal aid system began to expand many believe that
it would be difficult to opt out of new federal aid programs. Thus, it left residents with requirement to
continue to pay federal taxes in order to support the federal aid spending.
The Florida Department of Children and Families provides services and assistance to a group or to an
individual who may need income, and resources for their families. The Temporary Cash Assistance
program is contingent on determining eligibility for temporary assistance. Yet, due to the federal and
state restrictions does not count such as ineligible noncitizens or suctioned individuals. It is a Florida
law and requirement that state agencies offer detailed budget recommendations.
The state of Florida has been limited to amount of spending to about $140 million of federal cash. For
example, the federal cash would be reimbursed yearly towards the cost of foster care and residential
group housing. The funds will increase by 3 percent a year and can assist and fund parenting classes to
tutoring for children in care. Therefore, with a five year pilot program, the funds would be available

Summary Of Don Juan A Yaqui Way Of Knowledge
The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge by Carlos Castaneda explores spiritual and
philosophical awaking through the use of hallucinogenic plants (mainly peyote) to induce states of
nonordinary reality, and ancient Yaqui knowledge. It is an anthropological memoir of the experiences
of the author under the tutelage of the Yaqui Indian Sorcerer (brujo) don Juan Matus in Sonora,
Mexico from 1960 to 1965. The book was written by Castaneda as his Master s thesis in the school of
anthropology at the University of California Los Angeles, and was published by the university in
1968. The book is presented in two parts: the first deals with the teachings of don Juan; while the
second is an academic look at his journey. It is the first in a series of books by Castaneda that delve
into the subject of spiritual awakening, and development; something Castaneda devoted the rest of his
life to exploring. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

not know his heart, and it order to walk the path of the brujo one must know their own heart. Don Juan

from the North differ to those of the South just as the values of people in different

or their family s moral code if it disagrees with the nurses own code of ethics. This is
extremely difficult as often ethics and morals come from personal experiences and
how the person was brought up. A persons morals and ethics also change depending
on social circles, religious beliefs, society as a whole i.e. Media and culture. This is all
held and acted upon by a person s subconscious mind and often is unknown to them
until they are placed in a situation that they disagree with. It is important that all
nurses follow the ethical decision making model by Thompson and Thompson (1985)
as quoted in the fundamentals of nursing (2004, pg76), review the situation to

and to gather additional information to clarify the situation. Nurses must identify
moral positions of key individuals involved and identify value conflicts, if any, determine who should
make the decision. Identify range of actions with anticipated

System Thinking Is The Process Of Understanding How Things...
System thinking is the process of understanding how things influence one another within a system.
Russell L. Ackoff, Dr. W. Edwards Deming, and Peter Senge s define, think differently, and have
different approaches of system thinking. Russell L. Ackoff was born on February 12, 1919 in
Philadelphia. He was a pioneer in the field of operations research, systems thinking and management
science. (Russell L. Ackoff) He received his bachelor degree in architecture at the University of
Pennsylvania in 1941. In 1942 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Army. After his return he went on to
study at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received his doctorate in philosophy of science in
1947 as C. West Churchman s first doctoral student. (Russell L. Ackoff) Russell L. Ackoff says the
typical way management has been trained in the western world is to divide any complex system into
parts, and then try to manage each part as best as you can. If these were to be divided into parts we
would believe two things which are any problem can be solved, and the system as a whole will behave
well. Ackoff goes on to say these are false because it s possible to improve the performance of each
part taken separately and destroy the system at the same time. (Production Management: A Total
Quality Management Approach) Ackoff defines a system as a whole containing two or more parts that
contains the five conditions. The first condition is the whole has one or more important properties or

Immunotherapeutic Strategies
Sexually transmitted diseases are caused by a wide range of viruses. The most common viruses are:
HIV 1, HSV 1/2, and HPV. Often the contraction of these viruses goes undiagnosed until the patient
has acquired severe symptoms, by this time they have also transferred the disease to another
individual. For this reason, the importance of developing and understanding immunotherapeutic
strategies has become essential for immunologists (5). There are many factors that contribute to viral
infection, therefore, targeting these virus specific factors is a key to preventing viral spread to
neighboring cells. Factors like viral attachment, entry, un coating, synthesis, assembly, and ... Show

Cytokine therapy has been a crucial advance in the treatment of HIV because this disease is highly
affiliated with cytokine production. Cytokines are inserted in tumor cells as immune stimulatory genes
(5). Following insertion, the patient is injected with a cytokine based vaccine which is used as a
therapeutic measure for cancer prevention in patients that have HPV. Activation of cytokines (IL 2, IL
12, GM CSF) have been theorized to inhibit the growth on tumors. HIV is linked to a decline of the
host s immune system response and decrease of CD4 T cells, therefore cytokine therapy enables the
production of these cells by treating patients with IL 2 (5). HPV has been associated with cancer and
there is no cure for HPV, however, there are preventative and therapeutic medications (2,6). In the
case of HPV vaccination, natural killer cells are activated which induce an immune response. Immune
modulators have suppressive and stimulatory effects on macrophages. Stimulation allows for the
secretion of cytokines which allows the immune system to produce antibodies due to the high antigen
presentation in dendritic cells.
Although these viruses often remain undetected, HSV typically causes a more visible and painful
reaction in the infected tissues. Shedding of the HSV virus is prominent when the symptoms occur (1).

how deceptive their idea of beauty is. For the audience, these dreams demonstrate how they are

further demonstrates how unaware these characters are of their false dreams. He is able to show this

Paul Laurence Dunbar Sympathy Essay
Sympathy In Paul Laurence Dunbar s poem Sympathy, he chose the image of a caged bird to represent
his true feelings and emotions towards slavery. Many people question why he chose a caged bird to
symbolize a slave for many reasons. Birds were the complete opposite of slaves, birds were free and
seemed to always be full of joy. Whereas slaves were caged and mistreated by their owners. The
comparison between the two gives the reader a sense of irony. In the first stanza, Dunbar says he
knows how the caged bird feels. When the first bird sings and the first bud opens, And the faint
perfume from its chalice steals I know what the caged bird feels! He s saying he understands exactly
why it suffers from being locked up in a cage. Just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

before the Civil War. His father joined the Union Army during the war to fight for freedom after
escaping from slavery. His father s fight for freedom during his life, played a big role in his writings.
Many of his poems expressed the oppression of African Americans. In this poem, Dunbar chose to use
the image of a caged bird for the lack of freedom. The was using this bird to reflect the image of
himself. Being a black male in the 1800 s, make him feel as if he was a caged bird. While looking for

about his writings. He believes all black people around the 1800 s was suffering as well. He says they
were all locked in a cage, and revoked of their freedom. After the Civil War, many rights were granted

Following the election of Adolf Hitler in 1933 as Chancellor of Germany, the Jewish population was
subjected to a decade of discrimination and cruelty. April 1st of 1933 saw the deliberate instigation of
boycotting Jewish businesses by Nazi Stormtroopers. This destruction was then followed by the
infamous Nuremberg Laws that were introduced in September of 1935 that would continue throughout
Nazi reign. These laws were based upon the conception that Jews were racially unequal and inferior to
pureblood Germanic citizens, or Aryans . These laws included isolating decrees such as: curfews,
banning from certain public areas, exclusion from German schools, prohibition of inter marriage
between Jews and Gentiles etcetera. The notion of anti Semitic policies represents an extension of
classical anti Semitism during the fifth century in which similar policies were introduced in the Edict

Piaget Cognitive Constructivism Piaget s main focus of constructivism has to do with the person and
how they construct their knowledge. Piaget believed individuals must adapt to their environment, and
develops as parts of the adaptation process to the environment. According to Piaget, the individual
needs to understand the information that they are receiving in order to be able to use it; they must
construct their own knowledge (Powell, 2009). For Piaget, language development is internal mental
processes controlled by developmental processes and is done individually, without the interventions of
others (Agbenyega, 2009). As a result of mastering one stage, children will be ready to move, learn,
and develop according to the expectations of the next stage. In regards to language development
Piaget sees language as part of the cognitive development. How children think determines when and
what the child can speak. In addition Piaget, states that children s talking abilities emerge naturally
without any formal teaching by adults, however more sophisticated vocabulary require formal
education and experiences with the language. During early stages of the development according to
Piaget, words are related to schemas of actions related to the child and those schemas will later be
incorporated into exiting schemas that will support future learning experiences. Through the process
of assimilation and accommodation, children

Private Economic System
The economic system adopted in the United States is the private enterprise system. This system,
supports private individuals that recognize and serve the needs and demands of consumers. The
private enterprise system lessens government interference in the economy. Consequently, businesses
that satisfy and adapt to consumers needs are the ones who profit and succeed. This competition
between businesses gets rid of businesses that are not able to produce the best product at the best
price. This type of system is also known as capitalism. In Adam Smith s The wealth of Nations it is
indicated that capitalism is threatened by privileges extended to certain members of the economy at
the expense of others. Thus, it is pertinent to have the rights to private property, profits, freedom of

who is a blogger it is obligatory to purchase a business privilege license. These licenses cost $300, and
it truly wouldn t be a big deal if one is making a lot of money off of blogging; however, regardless of

Jackson Pollock s The Deep
The Deep was painted by Jackson Pollock in 1953 and was mostly done with black and white, which
he considered the essential colors. There are some pecks of yellow and light blue throughout the
canvas. The painting was huge, 5 X7 , and was painted with oil and enamel on canvas. Pollock would
paint this size canvas by putting it on the floor and placing one leg on it while he painted. Pollock used
a drip method which consisted of pouring paint on the canvas and dripping paint onto it with sticks
and brushes. Pollock s most famous paintings were created during the drip period from 1947 to 1950.
In his painting, The Deep, the white color can be considered the surface and the black color being that
part where a person s deep secrets hide. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His life changed overnight after a publication in Life magazine in 1949. There was a four page article
on him and his paintings in which he was asked if he was the greatest living painter in the United
States. As his fame grew, some began calling him a fraud and he began to question his own work and
had to have his wife tell him which paintings were good. In the 1950 s Pollock began assigning
numbers and dates rather than names to his paintings, as he considered symbolic titles misleading.
During this period he abandoned the drip method and painted in black and white only. He was not
successful with these changes and had showings in which no paintings were sold. He became very
depressed and returned to drinking very heavily as he had done many times before. His marriage
deteriorated to the point his wife returned to Paris to give him some time to work out his problems. He
began seeing other women and on the night of August 11, 1956 his life ended with him being killed in
a car accident while driving drunk and hit a tree. His wife returned from Paris to buy him and went
into a mourning that lasted the rest of her life. She did manage the sale of Pollock s painting and
placed them in museums. At her death, the estate was worth $20 million

Unbroken Movie Analysis
Throughout the duration of both of the World Wars, soldiers from every perspective of each war
endured many physical and moral challenges that tested their limits of survival. With various
technological advancements changing the art of war, influence to the wars outcomes was inevitable.
The amount of danger and challenges that the soldiers faced increased greatly. Fear struck into the
hearts of the men using tactics developed year by year in the early 20th century; warfare would never
be the same as it was before the wars. Examinations between the movies War Horse, directed by
Stephen Spielberg, and Unbroken, directed by Angelina Jolie, depict many of the same aspects of
surviving the hardships of war the protagonists endure in each movie ... Show more content on

Albert finds himself facing the terrible conditions of trench warfare during World War I, storming into
no man s land along with his fellow soldiers to almost certain death, the officers shooting anyone who
they found returning to the trenches after going over the top. Frighteningly encountering for the first
time the widespread use of chemical warfare in the trenches with poison gas, as well as the fear factor
that comes with coming face to face with some of the first tanks seen in combat (Jolie). While
stranded in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, suffering from the effects of dehydration and the sun
constantly beaming down, Louis and his crew members all day, as well as the cold chill during the
night along with the dangerous creatures that lurk near their life raft. Captured by the Japanese, he and
another crew member are beat and starved by the Japanese soldiers until moving to military POW
camps where they would remain until the war came to an end, suffering beatings and intense physical
labor and punishments (Spielberg). Hardships and sacrifices are sure to come from entering any war,
circumstances and experiences for each soldier will be vary immensely as is such with war. Yet the
way in which the soldiers approach their reason to make it through the war will be almost identical as

Andrew Jackson Achievements
It s safe to say that our founding founder set the stage for following presidents to build off of. But
which one really took those extra steps going above and beyond? His name is Andrew Jackson. I think
Jackson should get another monument because he gave America a strong leader who I personally think
showed that the executive branch was just as powerful as the others and isn t a position that should be
messed with. Andrew helped extended the rights to voting, became the father of the democratic party
and even steps up to the south to show who s boss when the south thought they were gonna nullify the
constitution.
One of our 7th presidents most influential achievement was when Jackson made the conditions of
voting extend to the poor white males of America, which back at the time was a huge deal. {add
evidence} ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jackson threatened to send troops to enforce the tariffs. Somewhat taken back, south carolina
eventually came to terms with the tariffs after congress lowered the prices. Jacksons move also
showed that the new government was able to stop rebellions that threatened its borders. {add
evidence}
{add counterclaim and rebuttal}
In final consideration, Andrew jackson was audacious and bold, bringing a new feeling towards the
president. He did not always make the most likable choices but his actions were genuine for the
greater good of the country. Jackson stood up for both his beliefs and our country and to pay him
resect by giving him a monument is the least we could do, for all the things he did for us all those
years

Pope Urban Alienation
QUESTIONS
Explain what you understand by the following statements from Source Document 1:
a. race chosen and beloved by God The Pope is telling his listeners that God loves them and that they
have been chosen by God. By invoking this message, the Pope is trying to convince the Franks to join
the crusades by making them believe that it is their destiny given to them by God.
b. an accursed race, a race utterly alienated by God In this statement Pope Urban is describing the
Persians as a group of people that are not loved by God and who have not been guided by God. He
said this to contrast against his previous statement about the Franks being chosen by God. Pope Urban
has distinguished two sides , those chosen and loved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
if you are hindered by love of children, parents and wives, remember what the Lord says in the Gospel
He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me In this statement Pope Urban is
quoting something that God said and using it to make his followers better fighters by removing the
hindrance of relationships. Loosely translated into modern day language it may sound something like
this: if you love your family more than god, you are not worthy of god s love and wisdom . This
makes his listeners single minded and only focused on the crusades.
d. She seeks therefore and desires to be liberated This is trying to convince the people listening to the
speech that Jerusalem wants to freed from the rule of its Muslim inhabitants that she is a city worthy
only of Christian people as its inhabitants. .
e. And we do not command or advise that the old or feeble, or those unfit for bearing arms, undertake
this journey Here Pope Urban is pointing out that there is going to be fighting involved in the
crusades. The Pope wants only the best fighters in his quest to drive the Islamic people out of
Jerusalem. He could also be looking out for the health of his elderly people but given that he goes on
to mention weapons it can be determined that Pope Urban wants the most fit and fast soldiers to be
part of his

Statistical Significance Test (SST) and P value Stang, Poole and Kuss explain, in SST, P value is an important part to decide the null hypothesis. The SST itself, they explain is analytical approach that developed based on two prominent statisticians, Fisher and the Neyman Pearson. However, in present practical, SST is incompatible amalgamation of those two theories. In Fisher theory, P value represents the strength of evidence against the null hypothesis: the lower the P value, the stronger the evidence. In this theory, they criticize lake of alternative hypothesis and concept of statistical power. How Did Charles Darwin Contribute To Science It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change, this was said by Charles Darwin, a naturalist who developed the theory of evolution to explain biological change. Almost all things are somehow affected or reshaped entirely by scientific advances. Science plays a huge role in everyone and every things life. There are many scientist who have discovered, helped advance, or even invented incredible things. And in the top 100 influential scientist sits Charles Darwin. Just like any other scientist, his studies open doors to many more. His research and visions of common ancestry revolutionized studies in comparative anatomy, embryology, and taxonomy, and has brought together the basic rule of all biology. But Darwin s innovative idea of the process of evolution was received cautiously and remains in the minds of many scientist today. His idea made a huge leap, but there was a missing puzzle piece that was found by scientist Gregor Mendel who figured out that heredity depends on genes. Throughout the witch hunts, women were the primary target; most victims being midwives, native healers, single women who lived alone, people against whom neighbors had a grudge or practitioners of ancient pagan rituals. Although not all were women, 75 to 90% of accused witches were in fact women (Levack,. p. 124), forcing one to question the affects of the harsh portrayal of women being placed on women. Prior to the fifteenth century, rural European women were highly revered and respected pillars of rural community life; not only considered mothers and wives, but seen as community leaders, physicians, and sources of strength and wisdom. Women had a special and imperative role in rural life, and even those that lived on the fringes of society were well respected as the village healers and wise women. These old women would possess the wisdom of the ages and pass it on to others. This respect for women quickly deteriorated, however, during the witch hunts. The belief spread that women were morally weaker than men and driven by carnal lust, therefore making them more susceptible to being tempted by the Devil, and thus practicing witchcraft. • 12. Paul s View On The Law Essay Paul has used the law in many circumstances throughout his epistles. He also discusses the implications of the law and its relation to believers. Paul s view on the law has been a conversation held by many New Testament scholars. Some suggest that Paul s views on the law is inconsistent throughout the epistles but by a careful analysis will show that his views are complementary rather than inconsistent. A main issue that Paul argued was that we are justified by faith in Christ and not by doing the works of the law. Paul view of the law was that nobody can be saved by obedience to the law but only by faith in Christ can one be saved. Three theological stands that have strong interest with Paul view of the law are those of Lutheranism, Reformed and The so called New Perspective of Paul. The Lutheranism believes that it is Paul s belief that Christ abolished the law and that the law is an argument contrast of the gospel (Crandell 2014). The main role of the law is to display our hopefulness in efforts of obedience in order to obtain God s acceptance and should cause us to desire from God a mercy that is only found in Christ. The Reformed view sees salvation as something that is of grace and not nothing that involves obeying the law but once saved we must only obey the moral law in order to be pleasing to God (Rosner 2013). Security Analysis Of An Electronic Voting System Sharanya Prasath Prof Ming Yang IT security Analysis 9 July 2016 Security Analysis of an Electronic Voting System Abstract Fundamental right to vote or simply voting in elections forms the basis of democracy. Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) is a simple electronic device used to record votes in place of ballot papers and boxes which were used earlier in conventional voting system .With significant U.S. federal funds we now have replaced the outdated punch card and mechanical voting systems, and are adopting paperless electronic voting systems from a number of different vendors. My analysis shows that this voting system is below the minimal security standards. Threats of computer viruses or hacker orchestrated attacks are most commonly mentioned as problems that could compromise an election and public confidence in electronic voting. Other potential technical problems or issues include power outages or malfunctions in Internet connectivity as well as the possibility of servers shutting down or crashing. The reliable recording and storage of votes is also an important consideration, I conclude that this voting system is unsuitable for use in a general election. Beethoven broke many rules too. His ninth symphony which was premiered in 1824 was nowhere near as unconventional of The Rite of Spring, however, at the time of Beethoven, writing a symphony that was over an hour long, included a full chorus and vocal soloists, and was expressive and romantic as it was, was in fact unconventional for his time. Beethoven s music was so rebelliously emotional, the last seven years of his life marked the beginning of the Romantic era. Nanostructures are relatively new and interesting subject to investigate, they are in a scale which is between 0 100 nanometers (1 nanometer, nm is equal to 10 9 meter). There are some types of nanostructured materials such as lamellar (1 dimensional), filamentary (2 dimensional) and crystallites (3 dimensional). If grains of the material are made up of crystals, then nanocrystalline materials term is what they are called. In this case, nanocrystalline materials have grains which are the size of 100 nm typically. An example of nanocrystalline material of SnO2 is imaged with STM as seen in Fig. 1 [1] and SEM image of nanocrystalline diamond thin films as seen in Fig. 2. [2] Fig. 1. STM image of nanocrystalline SnO2 [1] Fig. 2. SEM image of nanocrystalline diamond thin films. [2] In nanocrystalline materials there are numerous superior properties which actually are very useful and promising about future works and applications. The reason for the superior properties is that nanocrystalline materials have very high number of atoms at their grain boundaries which are in nanometer scale. Some of the properties that can be enhanced and increased by making nanocrystalline materials rather than the coarse grained materials are higher strength, higher hardness, increased diffusivity, increased mechanical properties and so on [3]. If these were to be divided into parts we would believe two things which are any problem can be solved, and the system as a whole will behave well. Ackoff goes on to say these are false because it s possible to improve the performance of each part taken separately and destroy the system at the same time. For this reason, the importance of developing and understanding immunotherapeutic strategies has become essential for immunologists (5). Cytokine therapy has been a crucial advance in the treatment of HIV because this disease is highly affiliated with cytokine production. Cytokines are inserted in tumor cells as immune stimulatory genes (5). Following insertion, the patient is injected with a cytokine based vaccine which is used as a therapeutic measure for cancer prevention in patients that have HPV. Activation of cytokines (IL 2, IL 12, GM CSF) have been theorized to inhibit the growth on tumors. HIV is linked to a decline of the host s immune system response and decrease of CD4 T cells, therefore cytokine therapy enables the production of these cells by treating patients with IL 2 (5). HPV has been associated with cancer and there is no cure for HPV, however, there are preventative and therapeutic medications (2,6). In the case of HPV vaccination, natural killer cells are activated which induce an immune response. Immune modulators have suppressive and stimulatory effects on macrophages. Stimulation allows for the secretion of cytokines which allows the immune system to produce antibodies due to the high antigen presentation in dendritic cells. Piaget believed individuals must adapt to their environment, and develops as parts of the adaptation process to the environment. According to Piaget, the individual needs to understand the information that they are receiving in order to be able to use it; they must construct their own knowledge (Powell, 2009). For Piaget, language development is internal mental processes controlled by developmental processes and is done individually, without the interventions of others (Agbenyega, 2009). As a result of mastering one stage, children will be ready to move, learn, and develop according to the expectations of the next stage. In regards to language development Piaget sees language as part of the cognitive development. How children think determines when and what the child can speak. In addition Piaget, states that children s talking abilities emerge naturally without any formal teaching by adults, however more sophisticated vocabulary require formal education and experiences with the language. During early stages of the development according to Piaget, words are related to schemas of actions related to the child and those schemas will later be incorporated into exiting schemas that will support future learning experiences.
