Prayer At School Research Paper
Religious beliefs have been a topic of major discussion over the thousands of years people have been
alive. Although that is the case it has shown up that a couch was fired for having his team pray before
their final game. Many people find this act to be outrageous! The act is outrageous since prayer at
school has happened many times before, it gives people hope, and it brings people together. To begin,
this is not the first case that has involved prayer in school yet this is the first one that has involved
someone being fired! I can remember the day at school when we me and my friend were walking
around the high school and there were a group of kids huddled around with bowed heads praying. We
found this very peculiar since we didn t see

The Discrepancies of Shakespeare
Shakespeare is a world renowned playwright. Most people could describe at least of one of his plays,
poems, or sonnets. However, not many people can recall the details of his personal life. Some may
know that he was married, while others believe that he gay. Since there are so many discrepancies
concerning William Shakespeare, it can no longer be determined what the facts are and what is fiction.
The discrepancies that involve Shakespeare start with his father. John Shakespeare had come to live in
Stratford upon Avon, working as a glove maker. However, John had a long line of jobs. He was a wool
dealer and was involved in money lending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, he could have been born on the 25th and there just happened to be a baptismal on the 26th.
There are so many possibilities that one must wonder if it is right to assume a date.
Nobody knows if Shakespeare went to school or not. There are no records that Shakespeare ever
attended school. However, since no records of anyone s school attendance were generally kept, there
is no evidence against it. It is supposed, because he was the son of a leading townsman, that he
attended the King Edward VI Grammar School in Stratford. Here, his education would have consisted
of a thorough knowledge of Latin, logic and rhetoric and also history, which would have been mainly
classical, (http:168.216.219.18).This could explain Shakespeare s knowledge of history for his plays.
If William had attended school, it is probable that he left at about the age of fourteen.
William had the example of his father s success and the standing of his mother as a gentlewoman to
ignite his own ambition, and it was while he was young that his father was at the height of his
influence.
Then, the fortunes of his father mysteriously failed as he appeared to fall into financial difficulties
which led him to default on his attendance at council meetings. As for William, it is very likely that he
became apprenticed to his father s business. This is because it was the custom for young men,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Stochastic Model
3.1 Deterministic models There are two types of model that we are going to look at, firstly the
deterministic model and then the stochastic model. [23]A deterministic model is used in a situation
where the result can be established straightforwardly from a series of conditions. It has no stochastic
elements and both the input and the outputs are determined conclusively. On the other hand a
stochastic model is one where the cause and effect relationship is stochastically or randomly
determined. Therefore the system having stochastic element is generally not solved analytically and
hence there are several cases for which it is difficult to build an intuitive perspective. When simulating
a stochastic model a random number is usually generated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is illustrated in figure 3 below. The chain ladder method explicitly relies on the assumption that
the expected cumulative losses settled up to and including the development year divided by the
expected cumulative claims losses settled up to and including the previous development year hold for
all claim occurrence years. 3.1.4. A Loss development data Let us consider a range of risks and
assume that each claim of the portfolio is settled either in the accident year or in the following n
development years. The data can be modelled by cumulative losses and incremental losses. 3.1.4. B
Incremental losses Let CI,J where i, j Ɛ{1.2...n} (a) represent incremental losses of accident year i
which is settled with a delay of j years and therefore in development year j. Let us also assume that
incremental losses C I, j are observable for calendar years i + J ≤ n and are non observable for
calendar years i + J ≥ n + 1. The runoff triangle below shows the incremental losses for accident years

The Values And Development Of The Ancient Maya Civilizations
The complex societies and civilizations that the world is made up of today, were formed and shaped
by groups of smaller traditional societies of the past. These small traditional civilizations that popped
up and evolved all around the world in all sorts of different areas and locations laid the stepping stones
for life as we know it today. While the civilizations did not necessarily press their values on others,
other societies saw valuable practices and took them on themselves. One unique traditional society
that has had a lasting impact on the world is the ancient Maya civilization. What makes the Mayans
and their society a unique civilization were their economic activities, social arrangements, and
political organizations which all helped their society develop over time, thus helped future
civilizations to come to flourish using their ideas and traditions.
Traditional societies begin with a small number of people living in one particular geographical region.
Their traditions help them to achieve a flourishing society over time. They do so by passing their ideas
and practices on from one generation to the next. Some of these traditions include cultural values and
practices defined through the people group s economic activities, social arrangements, and political
organization.A traditional society flourishes using these passed on values and practices, rather than
through impact of practices from other rival or complex civilizations.

Working Out Hypothesis
**Title** We constructed a top down hypothesis that people exhibit an increase in their performance
level when working out in the presence of others as opposed to working out alone. To test our
hypothesis, we questioned 12 males and 12 females that are between the ages of 18 and 24, and are
frequent gym goers. We asked them whether or not they preferred to work out in front of other others,
or if they would rather work out alone, and why. We formatted this question in a standard text message
that we sent out to eight people each. In order to duplicate these findings, there are a few design
features that should be present. First, the individuals must attend a gym or workout class on a regular
basis (about 2 3 times per week). Also, on top of this, they must have ... Show more content on

The theory of sexual selection states that traits that help with mating success can be selected for, even
if they hurt chances of survival. High testosterone levels are not necessarily great for a man health
wise. However, the men with these high levels are the ones that are the highest performers in the gym.
The theory of intrasexual competition involves an individual out competing other individuals of the
same sex. This goes hand in hand with people increasing their performance level when wanting to
outperform others in the gym. By looking like the strongest man, you can attract more high quality
females. The same concept works in reverse for women. If they look like the most physically fit
female, more men will want them. Another theory in psychology that this relates to is the imaginary
audience theory. This theory involves an individual having an egotistic belief that people around them
are watching them and their every move. In order for an individual to feel the need to out perform
another, they must believe that others are watching

Peppered Moth Essay
The Peppered Moths Model in NetLogo stimulates a classic example of natural selection that involves
the changes of colors in the peppered moth population of Manchester, England during the 1800s. One
important aspect of this model is the plot feature which graphs the number of light, medium, and dark
color moths, and the pollution rate over a period of time. While the monitor widgets can also track
these information at real time, the plot allows us to view past information that were collected, not just
the current data. Another interesting thing about the plot is that it works by using several pen update
commands which execute the global variables (light, medium, dark color moths, and population) that
were already created in the code section ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The setup and go button would help prepare the world with the specific amount of moths, and run the
stimulation respectively. The mutation slider would control the mutation rate of the moths changing
color. A lower mutation rate establish a correlation between the color of the parent moth and the color
of the offspring, whereas a high mutation rate like 100% represent that the color of the parent moth
and the offspring do not necessary have to be related. Moreover, the selection slider determine the
survivability of the moths when it encounter the birds that feed on them. At 0 percent, the ever moth
have an equal chance of being devoured, while at 100, the ability of the moth to camouflage is very
important. The pollute and clean up buttons also control the pollution levels in the environment, much
like the cycle pollution? switch, though they allow you to manually manipulate the pollution levels of
the environment in a deliberate way. The speed slider would control the rate at which the pollution
level will change, with 1 being the slowest and 100 being the fastest. Lastly, the monitors would
document either the total amount of moths, the number of moths for each three types of color, the
pollution rate, or the time as shown by the number of

The Importance Of The Vedic Ritual
On one hand, Brian Smith provides the definition that Vedic rituals refer to the rituals of the Vedic
religion and later Hinduism surrounding the concept of Veda , which is defined as thought by some to
merely signify a Hindu notion of absolute truth or truth in a general sense (Smith, 1989, p. 2). On the
other hand, later in his book he refers to Marcel Mauss definition of magic ( Magic gives every
outward appearance of being a gigantic variation of on the theme of causality...it s exclusive aim is to
produce results (Smith, 1989, p. 36)), and from this he claims that from the definition the Vedic ritual
can alternatively be called magic or a kind of science (Smith, 1989, p. 36).
Jamison and Witzel argue that The central importance of elaborate ritual activity throughout the Vedic
period cannot be overemphasized. However, it is also important to remember that our views of Vedic
ritual are somewhat distorted by the chronology of the text types that concern the ritual. It is only at
the very end of the Vedic period, in the Śrauta Sūtras, that we have straightforward, detailed
descriptions of ritual (Jamison Witzel, 1992, p. 29). In consequence, the meanings concerned in the
practice of Vedic rituals may be overexaggerated by researchers due to the lack of understanding of
the texts written about Vedic rituals.
Interestingly though, throughout hundreds of years, the Vedic rites became more complicated and had
developed countless rules that were entwined with the

Understanding And Treatment Of Psychological Disorders
The definition, understanding and treatment of psychological disorders have changed over time. In the
dark ages or mid evil times, people who behaved abnormally were quickly labelled as being mad or
being possessed by spirits. The individuals were often held in isolation with their treatments being
very cruel and harsh. In the eighteenth century, a French physician named Philippe Pinel challenged
the cruel treatment methods and promoted a gentler and more humane approach. According to the
American Psychiatric Association, a psychological disorder is a syndrome marked by a clinically
significant disturbance in an individual s cognition, emotion regulation or behavior. (American
Psychiatric Association, 2013). Some people use the term psychological disorder in the same context
as a mental illness or disorder. It is a behavior that leads to distress in an individual and prevents him
or her from living a normal life to the point that they cannot perform daily chores. Certain behaviors
have normal acceptable characteristics and if the behavior falls outside of this acceptable range, it can
be considered a disorder. The behavior can be painful as well as harmful to the individual. One thing
to note is that the behavior should not be something that is caused by a sudden stressful experience
such as grief due to the death of a loved one. (Myers, 506) A psychologist can use The Diagnostic and

Compare And Contrast Dido And Aeneas
After viewing the two operas, it is clear that there are many differences and similarities between the
two performances. One of the biggest differences I noticed right away was the opera scenery that each
of the shows had. L Orfeo, written by Claudio Monteverdi had a much more theatrical vibe with
elaborate scenery, props, and costumes used by the performers. The backdrop changed colors and had
scenery images to help with representing the setting and time of day throughout the performance.
Many props were used by all roles of the cast. The costumes were more elaborate and detailed
compared to that of Dido and Aeneas, written by Henry Purcell. The costumes for L Orfeo were
geared to fitting into the Greek Mythology period since the opera ... Show more content on

In Dido and Aeneas, Dido, a widowed queen, expresses her love for Aeneas, a Trojan hero. He
reciprocates the feelings but is destined to sail away to become the founder of Rome. The opera results
in her committing suicide because of this. Both plots do encompass similar topics such as love and
death. Since both operas were written in the Baroque period they do share that similarity and
characteristics in the music style of that period. Italy was highly influential in the operas style because
it was the birthplace of opera. Baroque operas were generally based on Greek legends or Roman
history which fits in with the plots of the two operas.
There are similarities between the two performances orchestras also. Both orchestras contained
chordal instruments and bass instruments. An example for bass instruments that both shows had was a
cello, and for chordal instruments, both performances had violins along with other instruments as well.
The leads in the performances followed the typical voice type for their characters. For example, the
female leads were sopranos, which is the highest female voice type. In L Orfeo the female lead was
Eurydice, and in Dido and Aeneas, the female leads were Dido and Belinda, all of which were soprano
s. The male leads were tenors in both performances to represent their role as the male star. In L Orfeo,
Orfeo and Apollo were both tenors, and Aeneas was the

Discrimination In American Schools
American Schools and Discrimination
According to the U.S Education Department, Eighty one percent (81%) of Asian American high
school students and 71% of white high school students attend high schools where the full range of
math and science courses are offered...Black students (57%), Latino students (67%), students with
disabilities (63%), and English language learner students (65%) also have less access to the full range
of courses . What does this tell us about schools in the United States? Although intentions have been
good, schools are still promoting racial discrimination throughout the U.S. Discrimination has been
proven by surveys on discipline and the opportunities given to non white ethnic groups. Schools
should be more concerned with how students that aren t white are being treated and analyze the
opportunities they are being given.

Richard Blanco s New Identity
Richard Blanco s diverse background makes him relatable for people of multinational upbringings.
His writing thoroughly appealed to me because he did such a good job capturing the emotions of a
child coming into a new world. Having experienced that, I wanted to see if I could have that effect on
people. I used some of the techniques that Blanco uses, in my poem New Identity , to familiarize the
reader with what he has been through. Richard Blanco accustoms the reader to his experiences by
using figurative language, diverse diction, and allusions. First of all, Richard Blanco s poems are
loaded with figurative language: mostly metaphors and similes. One reason he uses his figurative
language is to help the reader visualize the setting. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The way he used words from another language really showed the cultural mix in him. For example in
his poem America , he uses Spanish word like Mercado (line 17) or Tía (Line 1) that even if the reader
is not a Spanish speaker, the reader could probably figure out. I could not do that with my language
because we have an entirely different alphabet that most readers are not familiar with. Therefore, I had
to write the words in my language using the English alphabet. For example on line 6 of my poem, I
use the word Jannah which means paradise in Arabic. I specifically used Arabic words that were
religious to show the tight bond between my culture and my religion. Richard also uses specific words
to help readers read in between the lines. For example, Richard Blanco said in his poem America,
Prepared the poor fowl (line 58). When he said poor fowl, it gave the impression that the grandmother
did not like having to prepare the turkey and wishes she did not have to do it. I used diction in my
poem in this way in my poem when I said; Warm hugs from my begetters (line 8). I used the word
begetters, which gives the impression that my parents and I were not close which the case was. By
analyzing Blanco s use of diction, I enhanced my poem by mimicking his

The Flag On The Island Essay
binary oppositions in V.S. Naipaul s short story The Flag on the Island . This aim is achieved via using
Derrida s deconstruction and Bhabha s definition of these terms. Considering culture as a means of
domination to get possession of control over the instruments of collective self definition is considered
as a very significant policy in the political and cultural conflict for emancipation. This article focuses
on a tension between recently autonomous nation and former colonial beliefs which results in
binarism between modern and traditional values that led to the denigration of non Western cultures.
Therefore, the writer attempts to show how the characters of this story make effort to abolish this idea
and retrieve the local and native traditions that were destructed during colonialism. This study
concentrates on all characters and examines their contradictions and their effort for consistency that
can be discussed through a deconstructive analysis.
Key words: Mimicry, Colonialism, Post colonialism, Binary opposition, Culture.

Socrates Morality
This chapter focuses on what morality is. Socrates defines it as how we out to live and why. However,
there are many rival theories against the Socrates idea. In fact, it is hard to define morality. So in this
chapter, the authors utilize three real examples which are about handicapped children: baby Theresa,
conjoined twin Jodie and Many, and Tracy Latimer. For the case of Theresa, Theresa had anencephaly
when she was born, thus Theresa did not have the ability to breathe and beat her heart, and was going
to die within days. Additionally, she is not conscious. So, her parents wanted to donate her organ to
other children because they thought that it benefits someone without harming Theresa. However, it did
not happen due to the law. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since it would cause Mary s death, their parents reject the surgery, otherwise, the surgery was
performed by the court s permission. As the doctor expected, Jodie lived and Mary died. In the other
example, Tracy (whose mental level was like a three months baby) was killed by her father because he
thought that planed surgery is really hard for Tracy, and she was suffering without hope of relief. In
fact, her mother, who did not want the father to kill Tracy, was relieved to find Tracy dead when she
came back home. Even though he received a lenient sentence from the trial court, he was sentenced
from the Canadian Supreme Court to 10 years in prison. The main point of the first two examples is
whether people can kill someone for someone s benefit or not. Furthermore, the last example gives us
the idea of impartiality. These examples are contested and controversial issues. Thus, we need better
moral reasoning in order to conclude ethical issues, and there are two things to build exceptional
moral reasoning. The first thing is to get one s fact straight because moral judgments are different

Essay about 8th Amendment
The Eighth Amendment The 8th Amendment to the Constitution of the United
States prohibits cruel and unusual punishment, as well as the setting of excessive bail or the
imposition of excessive fines. However, it has also been deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme
Court of the United
States (according to the Eighth Amendment)to inflict physical damage on students in a school
environment for the purpose of discipline in most circumstances. The 8th Amendment stipulates that
bail shall not be excessive. This is unclear as to whether or not there is a constitutional right to bail, or
only prohibits excessive bail, if it is to be granted. The Supreme
Court has never directly addressed this interpretation problem, because federal ... Show more content

230) The first factor to be considered is the gravity of the offense compared to severity of the penalty.
The second is penalties imposed within the same jurisdiction for similar crimes. The third item to be
considered is penalties imposed in other jurisdictions for the same offense. (231) As far as capital
punishment is concerned, the
Eighth Amendment has been used to declare the death penalty invalid in numerous cases. Mandatory
death penalties have repeatedly been found to violate the
Eighth Amendment, and were first found to be unconstitutional in the cases of Roberts vs. Louisiana
and Woodson vs. North Carolina. Arbitrary death sentences with no established criteria for application
also violate the Eighth Amendment, as was ruled in the case of Furman vs. Georgia. In Furman vs.
Georgia three cases had been brought to the Supreme Court concerning the death penalty and the
racial biases present in the selection process. Three juries had convicted and imposed the death penalty
on their accused without any guidelines to go by in their decision. This case (Furman vs. Georgia)
represents the first time the Supreme Court ruled against the death penalty. The dissenting Justices
argued that the courts had no right to challenge legislative judgment on the effectiveness and justice of
punishments. The majority however held that the death penalty was cruel and unusual

What Happened In Dunkirk
The feature film Dunkirk, which was released in theatres July 13th, 2017, smashed box office
expectations by ranking in an impressive $50.0 million over its opening weekend. The movie is based
upon a real life event that occurred in May 1940. Christians today can find encouragement from the
movie along with the event itself as its truly a story worth telling and remembering.
What Happened at Dunkirk?
The British army set out to support their allies in France. Germany invaded France unexpectedly
essentially trapping the bulk of the British army, what remained of the Belgian army and three French
armies around the French Belgian border. Operation Dynamo was to be implemented by the British
military. They were hoping to evacuate the forces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, there were around 860 ships involved in Operation Dynamo and around 700 of these were
privately owned boats. They became known as the Little Ships of Dunkirk. The smallest boat used for
the operation was a mere 15 feet long and only had the capacity to hold five people. The little ships
were used to ferry the stranded men from the beach to the larger military ships that were waiting in
deeper water, though some of them did carry hundreds of men from the beach directly to England.
The Evacuation Process Was Lengthy:
Although the cinematic portrayal will likely make it seem like less, the process of getting the soldiers
off Dunkirk took nine days, lasting from May 27 to June 4th. In addition, many of the little ships were
piloted by British soldiers not their civilian owners, although there were a few civilians who took the
risk on themselves and acted self sacrificially to reach the stranded soldiers with their boats.
Throughout this time, the Germans continued to fight against the pinned soldiers making the
evacuation process anything but simple.

New Beginnings In American TV
New beginnings occur in epic showdowns or with a simple hello , but with every new beginning is a
start of a different chapter in life. Chandler, Joey, Monica, Phoebe, Rachel, and Ross are six single

their emotional confusions, their friendship takes on a new definition: parenting. F.r.i.e.n.d.s was an
iconic 90 s American TV series that shaped culture in many ways, but has also deceived society to
create a false meaning of friendship and love. The TV sitcom revolutionized society s view of

Chateau De Fontainebleau Essay
TITLE
Chateau De Fontainebleau A True Residence Of The French Sovereigns
LEAD PARAGRAPH
The Chateau de Fontainebleau, originated in 1137, might have been a temporary, but it is also the only
one residence that was favourite to all French kings and emperors until the end of the Second Empire,
in 1870. It certainly isn t opulent as Versailles, nor magical as Vaux le Vicomte, but its centuries old
architecture, furniture of the Imperial era and a couple of different style gardens are something truly
worth seeing. Besides, the Fontainebleau is closely related to two distinctive art institutions of
different periods, known as the First School of Fontainebleau and Barbizon School.

Francois I in various forms. In the painting above, he is represented as a royal elephant; flanking
depictions illustrate the abduction of Europe by Jupiter (left) and of Phylira by Saturn (right).
Ballroom
Conceived as a loggia by Francois I, and turned into a ballroom by Henri II, the Ballroom is another
highlight of the expansive chateau. The design of a coffered ceiling is reflected by the floor. To leave
as much space for the ball events, the musician s gallery was established above the ballroom entrance.
Flanking wall paintings depict various mythological scenes, while Henri II s monograms (H) and
crescent moons are distributed everywhere. His logo was Till he replenishes the whole world . An
ornate fireplace is topped by royal symbols and flanked by bronze copies of Primaticcio s satyrs.

Sexuality In Dracula
After decades of cheesy horror movies, the image of vampires has been misconstrued as sparkly,
angsty teenage boys or handsome men that lure in girls for the fresh blood of a virgin. Many of these
stereotypical vampires are influenced by the story of Dracula, held in the Victorian era. Yet, many of
the stories published about vampires diverge from the message that Bram Stoker is trying to make.
During the Victorian period, sexuality is repressed by society, as sexual behaviors from women are
viewed as unacceptable. In the Gothic horror novel Dracula, Bram Stoker uses the traumatic
experience of Jonathan Harker at Count Dracula s castle and the invasion of vampires in Great Britain
to create a social commentary on the sexual repression occurring in this era and its detrimental effect
on the men.
Throughout the entire novel, Stoker hints at sexual references, based on the characters actions. In
every encounter with female vampires, there is a perverse tone in the wordings of the passage. For
example, during Jonathan Harker s visit to Count Dracula s castle, he encounters three vampire sisters
after he disobeys Dracula s order to not leave his room. Harker s heart has a wicked, burning desire
(Stoker 32) that the three sisters would kiss him. He shows carnal desires as he is approached by these
vampires, unable to refuse their advances on to him, despite his loyalty to Mina. This reveals that the
men of the Victorian era cannot refuse and maybe even fear the unknown sexual

Another type of hang tag that your customers can save and reuse is a bookmark tag. This option is
great for clothing designed for people all ages. Bookmarks used to tag children s clothing can be used

The Assassination Of President Kennedy s Assassination
President Kennedy s assassination is one of America s most fascinating and infamous conspiracies.

While Herminio was in prison, Cuesta told him about the night of an abortive raid against Castro.
After his story, Diaz uttered words that Cuesta would always remember. When sharing his story,
Martinez said Herminio confessed to Tony Cuesta that he had taken part in the death of the US
president. Many years later, in Florida, Reinaldo heard the same evidence from another person, a
fellow Cuban exile, Remigio Arce, who said, Listen, the one who killed the president was our little
friend. Investigative writer Anthony Summers believes that what Martinez is the truth. Martinez struck
me after two days of tough interviewing of a man in his eighties as someone with nothing to gain, who
appeared to be credible. Diaz seems to be the killer, he was a known political assassin, a marksman
and an employee for Santo Trafficante, one of the two suspects in the assassination. He was also
involved with one of the more dangerous and extreme anti Castro groups. The Mafia had every motive
to do away with President Kennedy because they were being pursued as never before by the
government. At the same time, a large part of the anti Castro movement felt betrayed by Kennedy. It
[Diaz] is an important development that should be taken seriously. Hermino Diaz, one of the great
crack shots for the Cubans, has been labeled as one of the deadliest Cuban political assassins, and
therefore can be seen a point in how the Cubans killed President Kennedy. Secondly, the German film

Essay On Wildfires
Wildfires are common natural disturbances in California. If the wildfires are intense, they can affect
the water quality of the impacted and surrounding area. Wildfires may alter surface runoff, promote
erosion, affect infiltration, increase sediment loads into bodies of water, increase the temperature of
water bodies, and increase nutrient concentrations in water systems. The resulting water quality
impacts can then affect aquatic life, the operation of water treatment facilities that treat drinking water,
the quality of the drinking water supply, and irrigation systems (Paige and Zygmunt 2012).
Soils in the forest generally have high infiltration rates. However, wildfires can impact infiltration by
exposing mineral soil to raindrop impact and splash that can seal soil pores at the surface (Ice et al.
2004). As a result of reduced infiltration, overland flow and surface erosion are prone to occur during
a storm event. According to the article The Science behind Wildfire Effects on Water Quality, Erosion,

Phosphorous can often times be introduced into water bodies from sediment loads that emerge from
erosion. Nitrogen on the other hand, can be introduced to water bodies through plants. During
wildfires, the tissue from plants release nitrogen that can leach as nitrate and be transported into
bodies of water (Paige and Zygmunt 2012). Furthermore, nitrogen inputs may also stem from the fire
retardants used to put out the fire. Several of the fire retardants contain ammonia, nitrogen, and
phosphorus (Paige and Zygmunt 2012). If there is an excessive amount of these nutrients present in
water bodies, eutrophication may occur and in turn affect dissolved oxygen concentration levels. Low
dissolved oxygen levels can then stress the aquatic

Irony In The Life Of Brian
Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.
This Jesus states in his final moments of crucifixion upon bloodstained lips. As with the portrayal of
his preaching, the attention to detail in terms of the earnestness, forgiveness and dedication to the task
is paramount. Again this is typical of the Hollywood stereotype of Jesus as the forgiving and
benevolent Son of God, a stereotype that perhaps because of market pressures, they are unable to stray
away from.
Life of Brian however emphasizes the irony in faith associated with crucifixion especially it s
performative aspect. Upon being nailed to the cross and pulled upright, Brian is greeted by a man who
sings him a song, urging him to always look on the bright side of life . In the third verse that runs
along the same theme, he says laughing, dancing, smiling and singing are done for the benefit of an
audience who should as a result of this, be left with a grin. This accentuates the double and
performative vision of ironic faith. Despite the performance of life everything must, and everything
will come to nothing. This is a dark edge to take to religion, but one that independent studios are
permitted to portray. In comparison to the Hollywood take which follows more closely to a generic
representation of Jesus, taken right from the words of the Bible, Life of Brian twists the meaning of
crucifixion to question the motives of performative religion and ... Show more content on

My Views On Art As A Child
Admittedly, I never retained much of an interest in art as a child. Yes, I knew the basic mechanics
behind mixing primary colors to make secondary ones, and had even experimented with tertiary colors
on occasion. I even developed an innocent curiosity in the works of Leonardo da Vinci as I grew older,
but still maintained a blasé approach towards art in general. Since participating in Art Appreciation at
DCCC, my views on that matter have changed. I have gained a new fondness for the seemingly trivial
things in life and have since looked at them differently than I did before I signed up for the class.
Upon visiting the Reynolda House this weekend with a fellow classmate to work on our first outside
of class writing assignment, this adapted outlook was especially apparent. The two of us wandered
about the museum at a leisurely pace, and while I was already vaguely familiar with the layout from a
previous visit as a little girl, three oil paintings from the Victorian era caught my eye. While they share
an initial similarity with each other in their naturistic settings, they also differ in a myriad of ways.
The first piece of art that I will be analyzing is The Old Hunting Grounds, an oil painting created by
Worthington Whittredge in 1864. Whittredge largely limits his color pallete with mottled shades of
green and brown typical of vegetation and forest life, though the canvas focal point is dominated by a
grove of illuminated birch trees. In comparison to the overall dark

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Oneplus One
Looking for an inexpensive but offering a smooth performance, well, the OnePlus One can meet your
expectations. With a wide range of price, starting from $299 to $349 corresponding to 16 GB and 64
GB version respectively, these world version are the best deal for an 4G phone. If you just need basic
features of a smart phone, you do not need to pay premium for extra features of the fancy yet
expensive one such as HTC One M8 or SamSung Galaxy S5. It is such a waste when you actually do
not need those fancy features. Furthermore, the shiny, smooth and catchy eyes design of OnePlus One
is a plus point for the low priced smart phone. It can be kept easily in your pocket, however, it may be
hard to use with one hand. There are also drawbacks with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fortunately, you need to pay only extra $50 to get 64 GB version, quite a good deal when you
compare it with other phones. 4G LTE One of the things you need to consider when you decide to buy
OnePlus One is that its 4G LTE does not work on every network. You better check out the list of bands
that the One supports: 1, 3, 4, 7, 17, 38 and 40, the list of 4G LTE networks in your country to see
whether it works or not. Since you cannot try, you had better be careful with it unless you want to
regret your decision. However, it is not a big deal if you do not use 4G, maybe you cannot utilize the
fast data speed but you are still able to make calls, using 3G, Wi Fi and so on. The only thing that
disappoints you is you paying for what you do not use. It is such a waste. Software and features Based
on Android KitKat 4.4, the OnePlus One runs on CyanogenMod 11S platform which enable an
adjustment on desktop mode and the quick access to the camera or the LED light in comparison with
Android. It is very convenient for users to open camera mode to take pictures or turn on LED light
quickly. Additionally, you can activate voice control or double tap the screen to start the mobile phone,
but remember to set a password, otherwise you may find your phone activated when you put in your
pocket. Also, you can set your customized theme according

Exile And The Kingdom Analysis
In Exile and the Kingdom, Most of the stories are more or less related to religion, Christianity in
particular. For example, the whole story of The Renegade, or A Confused Mind is about the change of
religion s belief of the narrator. For Jonas, or The Artist at Work, the title itself borrows the name of a
Christian character Jonas, who want justice be carried even at the price of disobeying God. In the
growing stone, the suitor agreed to carry a heavy stone to church if he was saved from the shipwreck.
The pray itself is an act of religion. As for the other character ,D Arrast, an engineer from the outside
who didn t believe in religion, he carried out the stone after the suitor fell down but sent it to the suitor
s home, instead of the church. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After he carried the stone to the suitor s house instead of the church, the people from the city came
and, instead of blaming him, finally accepted D Arrast and asked him to join them. This text is from
Page 165 began with The stone now weighted painfully on his head... and ended with ...without
looking at him, motioned him to an empty place: Sit down with us. in Page 166. After he successfully
carried the stone back to the suitor s house, he depicted his feelings in details: Inhaling with desperate
gulps the familiar smell of poverty and ashes, he listened to the wave of joy surging inside him, dark
and panting, which he could not name (165) There is an contrast between the earthy ambiance and his
inner satisfaction. It implies that due to his helping of the suitor, in other words, his own kindness, D
Arrast had found his inner happiness in this world filled with unfortunate. In comparison, the stone,
which is a symbol of the religion in Iguapo, evoke a sense of heaviness. The people in Iguapo was
burdened by its religion instead of pursuing happiness. However, because of D Arrast act, the statues
of religion had changed little by little, it is implied by the text: In the center of the room, in the hearth
space, the stone was half buried in cinders and earth. (165) The stone, a symbol of the religion, was
half buried in to the earthy world. Camus seems to praise

Multi-Tiered System Of Support (MTSS)
School districts are facing increasing pressure to adopt universal screening, progress monitoring, and
data based assessments (Civic Impulse, 2016; Every Student Succeeds Acts, 2015; Individuals with
Disabilities Education Improvement Act, 2004;). States are complying with these mandates by use of a
Multi Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework. MTSS uses data based decision making to
inform instruction and interventions that target academic, social, emotional, and behavioral skills from
early childhood to secondary education (Jimerson, Burn s Van Der Heyden, 2016). An important
component of MTSS is delivering interventions and instructions based on student s needs. After
school programs are increasingly being researched as targeted academic, ... Show more content on

Bigger Historical Context
I personally think out of the three novels we read this semester, Bigger is more part of his historical
context. I feel that if I was in Biggers s shoes during the 1930 s during that historical period, it would
have been very easy for me to fall into what Bigger did. Bigger was stuck in a system where only
racism, crime, violence and injustice surrounded his world. He felt the only way he could continue
living in a world where he would never be accepted, it was easier to create fear amongst white people.
There comes a time where the frustration gets to someone knowing that no matter what you do in your
life, your destiny will always follow you. For Bigger his destiny was to be a person of color who was
criticized by what he look from the outside. The other two novels that we read during the semester, I
feel Battle Royale was also based on a historical period just like The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. There
were a lot of events occurring such as the hypocritical Japanese government that was taken place. The
Food and Drug Act that came about and the capitalist government that took advantage of the
circumstances of immigrants during that era. I agree that all these 3 main characters do belong in their
historical context, however Bigger to me was more heavily impacted in the sense that in the end, his
life was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am not referring to the violent behavior that he participated in but to the extent that as human beings
we are not perfect and at our most vulnerable moments we can fall victims to the system and become a
person we are not. Bigger s attitude toward whites is a convincing combination of powerful anger and
powerful fear. I believe Bigger was a victim of what racism created. Bigger is stuck with a powerful
conviction that he will never have control over his own life. Intimidation, fear and frustration are all
part of Bigger s daily existence, as he is forced to hide behind a mask of toughness or either fall victim

Xbox vs. PlayStation The Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 are the most popular gaming systems in
today s market. Sony and Microsoft try everything to meet the needs of the consumer and get people
to buy their product. In doing so they design them to meet today s society while also staying fairly
similar with the previous models. Since the hardware is very similar, the accessories and add ons play
a huge role in determining if the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 is superior. The Xbox one is a sleek and
very nice looking console designed to impress the buyer with its shiny gloss black finish and touch
screen buttons to make it easier to operate. The Xbox One controller was completely redesigned ...

They are much more reactive and have a lot better processors. The consoles are well equipped with
great storage and can hold plenty of content. The PlayStation is known to have a more comfortable
controller with a smaller and skinnier design to better fit the player and make it a more enjoyable
experience. Sony improved the thumb sticks so that they don t touch while playing, the triggers have
an inward curve unlike the previous outward curve on the PS3, and the thumb sticks have a concave
surface for more comfort (www.ign.com). The play station has wireless rechargeable controllers and is
compatible with hdmi for more vivid picture and shapes. They are both excellent gaming consoles but
are so complex that they have many differences. The biggest advantage of a PlayStation is that it can
play Blu ray movies, it has a 500GB hard drive, and it is $400, which is $100 cheaper than the Xbox
(Best Buy). The Xbox one also has the features of Blu ray and a 500GB hard drive, however it cannot
connect to a mobile device while playing a game unlike the PlayStation (www.ign.com). Consumers
rated the PlayStation 4.7 out of 5 stars and the Xbox received a 4.6 which is very close considering the
PlayStation was released a week before the

The Kentucky Derby Is Decadent And Deprave Analysis
When New Orleans rhythm and blues musician James Booker recorded his hit single Gonzo in 1960,
he most likely had no idea that the title of his single would be used, almost a decade after its release,
to refer to the unabashedly radical style of journalism that Hunter S. Thompson with his illustrator
Ralph Steadman happened to invent with their breakthrough article The Kentucky Derby is decadent
and depraved . It s exactly how it sounds. The annual Kentucky Derby Festival, known in the United
States as The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports was being covered by Thompson and he fixated
least on the details of the actual race and wrote primarily about the debauched festivities and depravity
that the attendees indulged in through the festival ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A style of journalism that does away with the oppression of objectivity that traditional journalism
demands and in the process raises the question of whether any piece of reporting can ever be truly
objective. Whenever the name of Hunter Thompson is evoked the focus automatically falls on the
drugs, the guns, the constant and diverse forms of substance abuse [and Johnny Depp] but should we
choose to swim through the psychedelic haze that surrounds Thompson we find a spirited, innovative
writer whose accounts of his times with the outlawed Hell s Angels or Richard Nixon is compelling
because of his vivid prose more than anything else. As he once famously declared in an interview
Objective Journalism is one of the main reasons American Politics has been corrupt for so long. You
can t be objective about Nixon. In the 1950s and 60s America, a silent alteration engulfed a generation
of young reporters and writers which came to be known as New Journalism. Journalism that blended
fiction with fact and had the likes of Norman Mailer and Truman Capote committed to its style.
Norman Mailer once declared that he felt that (he) had some dim intuitive feeling that what was wrong
with all journalism is that the reporter tended to be objective and that that was one of the great lies of

  • 2. Prayer At School Research Paper Religious beliefs have been a topic of major discussion over the thousands of years people have been alive. Although that is the case it has shown up that a couch was fired for having his team pray before their final game. Many people find this act to be outrageous! The act is outrageous since prayer at school has happened many times before, it gives people hope, and it brings people together. To begin, this is not the first case that has involved prayer in school yet this is the first one that has involved someone being fired! I can remember the day at school when we me and my friend were walking around the high school and there were a group of kids huddled around with bowed heads praying. • 4. shakespeare Essay The Discrepancies of Shakespeare Shakespeare is a world renowned playwright. Most people could describe at least of one of his plays, poems, or sonnets. However, not many people can recall the details of his personal life. Some may know that he was married, while others believe that he gay. Since there are so many discrepancies concerning William Shakespeare, it can no longer be determined what the facts are and what is fiction. The discrepancies that involve Shakespeare start with his father. John Shakespeare had come to live in Stratford upon Avon, working as a glove maker. However, John had a long line of jobs. He was a wool dealer and was involved in money lending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, he could have been born on the 25th and there just happened to be a baptismal on the 26th. There are so many possibilities that one must wonder if it is right to assume a date. Nobody knows if Shakespeare went to school or not. There are no records that Shakespeare ever attended school. However, since no records of anyone s school attendance were generally kept, there is no evidence against it. It is supposed, because he was the son of a leading townsman, that he attended the King Edward VI Grammar School in Stratford. Here, his education would have consisted of a thorough knowledge of Latin, logic and rhetoric and also history, which would have been mainly classical, (http:168.216.219.18).This could explain Shakespeare s knowledge of history for his plays. If William had attended school, it is probable that he left at about the age of fourteen. William had the example of his father s success and the standing of his mother as a gentlewoman to ignite his own ambition, and it was while he was young that his father was at the height of his influence. Then, the fortunes of his father mysteriously failed as he appeared to fall into financial difficulties which led him to default on his attendance at council meetings. As for William, it is very likely that he became apprenticed to his father s business. This is because it was the custom for young men, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Stochastic Model 3.1 Deterministic models There are two types of model that we are going to look at, firstly the deterministic model and then the stochastic model. [23]A deterministic model is used in a situation where the result can be established straightforwardly from a series of conditions. It has no stochastic elements and both the input and the outputs are determined conclusively. On the other hand a stochastic model is one where the cause and effect relationship is stochastically or randomly determined. Therefore the system having stochastic element is generally not solved analytically and hence there are several cases for which it is difficult to build an intuitive perspective. When simulating a stochastic model a random number is usually generated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is illustrated in figure 3 below. A Loss development data Let us consider a range of risks and assume that each claim of the portfolio is settled either in the accident year or in the following n development years. The data can be modelled by cumulative losses and incremental losses. 3.1.4. • 7. The Values And Development Of The Ancient Maya Civilizations The complex societies and civilizations that the world is made up of today, were formed and shaped by groups of smaller traditional societies of the past. These small traditional civilizations that popped up and evolved all around the world in all sorts of different areas and locations laid the stepping stones for life as we know it today. While the civilizations did not necessarily press their values on others, other societies saw valuable practices and took them on themselves. One unique traditional society that has had a lasting impact on the world is the ancient Maya civilization. What makes the Mayans and their society a unique civilization were their economic activities, social arrangements, and political organizations which all helped their society develop over time, thus helped future civilizations to come to flourish using their ideas and traditions. Traditional societies begin with a small number of people living in one particular geographical region. Their traditions help them to achieve a flourishing society over time. They do so by passing their ideas and practices on from one generation to the next. Some of these traditions include cultural values and practices defined through the people group s economic activities, social arrangements, and political organization.A traditional society flourishes using these passed on values and practices, rather than through impact of practices from other rival or complex civilizations. • 8. Working Out Hypothesis **Title** We constructed a top down hypothesis that people exhibit an increase in their performance level when working out in the presence of others as opposed to working out alone. To test our hypothesis, we questioned 12 males and 12 females that are between the ages of 18 and 24, and are frequent gym goers. We asked them whether or not they preferred to work out in front of other others, or if they would rather work out alone, and why. We formatted this question in a standard text message that we sent out to eight people each. In order to duplicate these findings, there are a few design features that should be present. First, the individuals must attend a gym or workout class on a regular basis (about 2 3 times per week). Also, on top of this, they must have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The theory of sexual selection states that traits that help with mating success can be selected for, even if they hurt chances of survival. High testosterone levels are not necessarily great for a man health wise. However, the men with these high levels are the ones that are the highest performers in the gym. The theory of intrasexual competition involves an individual out competing other individuals of the same sex. This goes hand in hand with people increasing their performance level when wanting to outperform others in the gym. By looking like the strongest man, you can attract more high quality females. The same concept works in reverse for women. If they look like the most physically fit female, more men will want them. Another theory in psychology that this relates to is the imaginary audience theory. This theory involves an individual having an egotistic belief that people around them are watching them and their every move. • 9. Peppered Moth Essay The Peppered Moths Model in NetLogo stimulates a classic example of natural selection that involves the changes of colors in the peppered moth population of Manchester, England during the 1800s. One important aspect of this model is the plot feature which graphs the number of light, medium, and dark color moths, and the pollution rate over a period of time. While the monitor widgets can also track these information at real time, the plot allows us to view past information that were collected, not just the current data. Another interesting thing about the plot is that it works by using several pen update commands which execute the global variables (light, medium, dark color moths, and population) that were already created in the code section ... Moreover, the selection slider determine the survivability of the moths when it encounter the birds that feed on them. At 0 percent, the ever moth have an equal chance of being devoured, while at 100, the ability of the moth to camouflage is very important. The pollute and clean up buttons also control the pollution levels in the environment, much like the cycle pollution? switch, though they allow you to manually manipulate the pollution levels of the environment in a deliberate way. The speed slider would control the rate at which the pollution level will change, with 1 being the slowest and 100 being the fastest. • 10. The Importance Of The Vedic Ritual On one hand, Brian Smith provides the definition that Vedic rituals refer to the rituals of the Vedic religion and later Hinduism surrounding the concept of Veda , which is defined as thought by some to merely signify a Hindu notion of absolute truth or truth in a general sense (Smith, 1989, p. 2). On the other hand, later in his book he refers to Marcel Mauss definition of magic ( Magic gives every outward appearance of being a gigantic variation of on the theme of causality...it s exclusive aim is to produce results (Smith, 1989, p. 36)), and from this he claims that from the definition the Vedic ritual can alternatively be called magic or a kind of science (Smith, 1989, p. 36). Jamison and Witzel argue that The central importance of elaborate ritual activity throughout the Vedic period cannot be overemphasized. However, it is also important to remember that our views of Vedic ritual are somewhat distorted by the chronology of the text types that concern the ritual. It is only at the very end of the Vedic period, in the Śrauta Sūtras, that we have straightforward, detailed descriptions of ritual (Jamison Witzel, 1992, p. 29). In consequence, the meanings concerned in the practice of Vedic rituals may be overexaggerated by researchers due to the lack of understanding of the texts written about Vedic rituals. • 12. Understanding And Treatment Of Psychological Disorders The definition, understanding and treatment of psychological disorders have changed over time. In the dark ages or mid evil times, people who behaved abnormally were quickly labelled as being mad or being possessed by spirits. The individuals were often held in isolation with their treatments being very cruel and harsh. In the eighteenth century, a French physician named Philippe Pinel challenged the cruel treatment methods and promoted a gentler and more humane approach. According to the American Psychiatric Association, a psychological disorder is a syndrome marked by a clinically significant disturbance in an individual s cognition, emotion regulation or behavior. (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Some people use the term psychological disorder in the same context as a mental illness or disorder. It is a behavior that leads to distress in an individual and prevents him or her from living a normal life to the point that they cannot perform daily chores. Certain behaviors have normal acceptable characteristics and if the behavior falls outside of this acceptable range, it can be considered a disorder. The behavior can be painful as well as harmful to the individual. One thing to note is that the behavior should not be something that is caused by a sudden stressful experience such as grief due to the death of a loved one. • 13. Compare And Contrast Dido And Aeneas After viewing the two operas, it is clear that there are many differences and similarities between the two performances. One of the biggest differences I noticed right away was the opera scenery that each of the shows had. L Orfeo, written by Claudio Monteverdi had a much more theatrical vibe with elaborate scenery, props, and costumes used by the performers. The backdrop changed colors and had scenery images to help with representing the setting and time of day throughout the performance. Many props were used by all roles of the cast. The costumes were more elaborate and detailed compared to that of Dido and Aeneas, written by Henry Purcell. In Dido and Aeneas, Dido, a widowed queen, expresses her love for Aeneas, a Trojan hero. He reciprocates the feelings but is destined to sail away to become the founder of Rome. The opera results in her committing suicide because of this. Both plots do encompass similar topics such as love and death. Since both operas were written in the Baroque period they do share that similarity and characteristics in the music style of that period. Italy was highly influential in the operas style because it was the birthplace of opera. Baroque operas were generally based on Greek legends or Roman history which fits in with the plots of the two operas. There are similarities between the two performances orchestras also. Both orchestras contained chordal instruments and bass instruments. An example for bass instruments that both shows had was a cello, and for chordal instruments, both performances had violins along with other instruments as well. The leads in the performances followed the typical voice type for their characters. For example, the female leads were sopranos, which is the highest female voice type. In L Orfeo the female lead was Eurydice, and in Dido and Aeneas, the female leads were Dido and Belinda, all of which were soprano s. His writing thoroughly appealed to me because he did such a good job capturing the emotions of a child coming into a new world. Having experienced that, I wanted to see if I could have that effect on people. I used some of the techniques that Blanco uses, in my poem New Identity , to familiarize the reader with what he has been through. Richard Blanco accustoms the reader to his experiences by using figurative language, diverse diction, and allusions. I could not do that with my language because we have an entirely different alphabet that most readers are not familiar with. Therefore, I had to write the words in my language using the English alphabet. For example on line 6 of my poem, I use the word Jannah which means paradise in Arabic. I specifically used Arabic words that were religious to show the tight bond between my culture and my religion. Richard also uses specific words to help readers read in between the lines. For example, Richard Blanco said in his poem America, Prepared the poor fowl (line 58). When he said poor fowl, it gave the impression that the grandmother did not like having to prepare the turkey and wishes she did not have to do it. I used diction in my poem in this way in my poem when I said; Warm hugs from my begetters (line 8). This aim is achieved via using Derrida s deconstruction and Bhabha s definition of these terms. Considering culture as a means of domination to get possession of control over the instruments of collective self definition is considered as a very significant policy in the political and cultural conflict for emancipation. This article focuses on a tension between recently autonomous nation and former colonial beliefs which results in binarism between modern and traditional values that led to the denigration of non Western cultures. Therefore, the writer attempts to show how the characters of this story make effort to abolish this idea and retrieve the local and native traditions that were destructed during colonialism. This study concentrates on all characters and examines their contradictions and their effort for consistency that can be discussed through a deconstructive analysis. In fact, it is hard to define morality. So in this chapter, the authors utilize three real examples which are about handicapped children: baby Theresa, conjoined twin Jodie and Many, and Tracy Latimer. For the case of Theresa, Theresa had anencephaly when she was born, thus Theresa did not have the ability to breathe and beat her heart, and was going to die within days. The little ships were used to ferry the stranded men from the beach to the larger military ships that were waiting in deeper water, though some of them did carry hundreds of men from the beach directly to England. The Evacuation Process Was Lengthy: Although the cinematic portrayal will likely make it seem like less, the process of getting the soldiers off Dunkirk took nine days, lasting from May 27 to June 4th. In addition, many of the little ships were piloted by British soldiers not their civilian owners, although there were a few civilians who took the risk on themselves and acted self sacrificially to reach the stranded soldiers with their boats. Sexuality In Dracula After decades of cheesy horror movies, the image of vampires has been misconstrued as sparkly, angsty teenage boys or handsome men that lure in girls for the fresh blood of a virgin. Many of these stereotypical vampires are influenced by the story of Dracula, held in the Victorian era. Yet, many of the stories published about vampires diverge from the message that Bram Stoker is trying to make. During the Victorian period, sexuality is repressed by society, as sexual behaviors from women are viewed as unacceptable. In the Gothic horror novel Dracula, Bram Stoker uses the traumatic experience of Jonathan Harker at Count Dracula s castle and the invasion of vampires in Great Britain to create a social commentary on the sexual repression occurring in this era and its detrimental effect on the men. Throughout the entire novel, Stoker hints at sexual references, based on the characters actions. In every encounter with female vampires, there is a perverse tone in the wordings of the passage. For example, during Jonathan Harker s visit to Count Dracula s castle, he encounters three vampire sisters after he disobeys Dracula s order to not leave his room. Harker s heart has a wicked, burning desire (Stoker 32) that the three sisters would kiss him. • 34. Essay On Wildfires Wildfires are common natural disturbances in California. If the wildfires are intense, they can affect the water quality of the impacted and surrounding area. Wildfires may alter surface runoff, promote erosion, affect infiltration, increase sediment loads into bodies of water, increase the temperature of water bodies, and increase nutrient concentrations in water systems. The resulting water quality impacts can then affect aquatic life, the operation of water treatment facilities that treat drinking water, the quality of the drinking water supply, and irrigation systems (Paige and Zygmunt 2012). Soils in the forest generally have high infiltration rates. However, wildfires can impact infiltration by exposing mineral soil to raindrop impact and splash that can seal soil pores at the surface (Ice et al. 2004). Again this is typical of the Hollywood stereotype of Jesus as the forgiving and benevolent Son of God, a stereotype that perhaps because of market pressures, they are unable to stray away from. Life of Brian however emphasizes the irony in faith associated with crucifixion especially it s performative aspect. Upon being nailed to the cross and pulled upright, Brian is greeted by a man who sings him a song, urging him to always look on the bright side of life . In the third verse that runs along the same theme, he says laughing, dancing, smiling and singing are done for the benefit of an audience who should as a result of this, be left with a grin. This accentuates the double and performative vision of ironic faith. Despite the performance of life everything must, and everything will come to nothing. This is a dark edge to take to religion, but one that independent studios are permitted to portray. In comparison to the Hollywood take which follows more closely to a generic representation of Jesus, taken right from the words of the Bible, Life of Brian twists the meaning of crucifixion to question the motives of performative religion and ... • 38. My Views On Art As A Child Admittedly, I never retained much of an interest in art as a child. Yes, I knew the basic mechanics behind mixing primary colors to make secondary ones, and had even experimented with tertiary colors on occasion. I even developed an innocent curiosity in the works of Leonardo da Vinci as I grew older, but still maintained a blasé approach towards art in general. Since participating in Art Appreciation at DCCC, my views on that matter have changed. I have gained a new fondness for the seemingly trivial things in life and have since looked at them differently than I did before I signed up for the class. Upon visiting the Reynolda House this weekend with a fellow classmate to work on our first outside of class writing assignment, this adapted outlook was especially apparent. The two of us wandered about the museum at a leisurely pace, and while I was already vaguely familiar with the layout from a previous visit as a little girl, three oil paintings from the Victorian era caught my eye. While they share an initial similarity with each other in their naturistic settings, they also differ in a myriad of ways. The first piece of art that I will be analyzing is The Old Hunting Grounds, an oil painting created by Worthington Whittredge in 1864. Whittredge largely limits his color pallete with mottled shades of green and brown typical of vegetation and forest life, though the canvas focal point is dominated by a grove of illuminated birch trees. In comparison to the overall dark ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Bigger Historical Context I personally think out of the three novels we read this semester, Bigger is more part of his historical context. I feel that if I was in Biggers s shoes during the 1930 s during that historical period, it would have been very easy for me to fall into what Bigger did. Bigger was stuck in a system where only racism, crime, violence and injustice surrounded his world. He felt the only way he could continue living in a world where he would never be accepted, it was easier to create fear amongst white people. There comes a time where the frustration gets to someone knowing that no matter what you do in your life, your destiny will always follow you. For Bigger his destiny was to be a person of color who was criticized by what he look from the outside. The other two novels that we read during the semester, I feel Battle Royale was also based on a historical period just like The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. There were a lot of events occurring such as the hypocritical Japanese government that was taken place. The Food and Drug Act that came about and the capitalist government that took advantage of the circumstances of immigrants during that era. I agree that all these 3 main characters do belong in their historical context, however Bigger to me was more heavily impacted in the sense that in the end, his life was ... The Kentucky Derby Is Decadent And Deprave Analysis When New Orleans rhythm and blues musician James Booker recorded his hit single Gonzo in 1960, he most likely had no idea that the title of his single would be used, almost a decade after its release, to refer to the unabashedly radical style of journalism that Hunter S. Thompson with his illustrator Ralph Steadman happened to invent with their breakthrough article The Kentucky Derby is decadent and depraved . It s exactly how it sounds.
