2. Narrative Family Therapy Paper
According to Winek (2010) narrative family therapy has several interventions that are used.
Listening to the family and showing interested in getting to know the members of the family as
people and in making sure that the problem does not trick us into mistaking them for it (Metcalf,
2011). Questions are used as a way generate experience rather than to gather information. Asking
questions can lead to separating person from problem , identifying preferred directions, and creating
alternative stories to support these directions. Externalization is a process of separating the person
from identifying with the problem. The person is not the problem; the problem is the problem.
Externalizing conversations can lead clients in recognizing times

3. Comparison of News Reports Essays
Comparison of News Reports
The idea of this assignment is to compare and contrast two newspaper reports on the same incident.
The articles concerned are taken from The Mirror and The Times, both published on the 4th of
February 1998.
The Mirror is considered a tabloid newspaper. Tabloidpapers usually cover all national and
international news. They often contain more scandalous, gossipy stories or personal news items.
The Times is considered a broadsheet newspaper. These are the largest type of newspaper and cover
all national and international news in a serious, informative way.
The basic story found in both articles is that a US Marine Fighter Jet sliced through a cable car
wire in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Times article is also split into 4 columns, but only has one headline. It reads 20 die in cable
car after jets cut wire . This heading is neutral and blames the accident on no one, yet from the
words used in The Mirror; I can see that because they use the word killed , they are implying that it
is somebody s fault.
The positioning of the headlines is again different in each paper. In The Mirror, it is to the top
left hand corner, above a picture and in a bold font. In The Times it is found beneath a picture,
approximately a third of the way down the page and is in a relatively small font.
The use of photographs and images differs in each paper only slightly. The Mirror has two
photographs and so does The Times. I would say that the photos take up more space in The Times
article, which would not normally be expected in a broadsheet newspaper. The Mirror includes a
very simple diagram detailing the facts of the accident whereas The Times includes a map diagram
detailing the position of the accident.
In The Mirror article I would say that the headline catches the readers attention first, whereas in The
Times article it would be the large photograph to the top of the page.
In The Mirror article the general tone of the article is expressing empathy with the Italians and
resentment towards, and an apportioning of the blame, to the Americans.

4. John Hick argues that human beings are psychophysical persons
2. John Hick argues that human beings are psychophysical persons. He believes a person can be
resurrected through a divine act of recreation. How does he defend this position? Do you agree
with Hick? Why or why not? Please provide reasons to support your claim.
John Hick believes psychophysical re creation and parapsychology is evidence for life after death.
He says the soul cannot be destroyed, unlike the body. Hicks believe man is not an immortal soul
attached to a predetermined body, but man is a mortal with a psychophysical life that has to rely
on God. To explain what Hicks means, he uses John Smith, a man who disappears from the U.S.
and is the same person in India at the same time. Since John Smith is exactly the same people ...

In order for someone to define themself, it requires looking deep into their life experiences and
determine what has helped form us into who we are. We cannot define our self by our others see
us, but only by who we truly know we are.
I do not feel there is a way that the same person can exist at different times, at least here on earth.
There is one person, per body, that has one soul. Once the physical body dies, then the person s
soul lives on. I guess someone could look at a person exising at different times, such as their
personality traits and qualities in their children. I have heard many say, Your daughter is so funny
and has the same personality as her father. Does that mean that in a sense, my husband is existing at
different times in himself and through my daughter? I m not sure. There is one way for sure that
the same person can exist at different times, and that is during life here on earth and then after
death when the soul moves on to either heaven or hell, depending on the the life choices the person
made while living.

5. Happiness Is A Personal And Multi Dimensional Notion
Happiness is usually expressed as the point to which an individual assesses the total worth of his
or her existence as a whole positively (Veenhoven, 1993), and regularly, considered on an ordinal
scale of answers to biased questions. Most experimental findings consume various kinds of self
reported ideals on happiness or particular well being dignified from various scaling methods.
Happiness is a personal and multi dimensional notion every distinct person depicts it in a diverse
way, it is comparative, and it is determine by an extensive range of influences, involving individual
personalities. Consequently, allowing it to be assessable and creating causal relationships a task.
The information and experimental studies distinguish between the natures of happiness and
noticing the connected expressions life s satisfaction and well being. The explanations of
recognised ideas overlap through the proposal on happiness and are separated into numerous
categories. In this study, the main ideas associated to happiness and their factors are shortened in
order to pinpoint the major distinctions between the suggested terms and to determine the
theoretical agenda. The pursuit for happiness is significant and is a must to human beings. It is a
situation that majority of people attempt to accomplish. Many of us can account, at least at some
phase of our existent, being happy. We all strive to live happy and fulfil our lives and want
happiness for people that we love. So happiness

6. Sustainable Growth And Sustainable Development
Sustainable development. A concept that has only recently become highlighted and pursued by the
international community. In a country like Nigeria, there is focus on economic growth on the
sustaining of their people, not the interest of the environment, however this trend is beginning to
change as the country is moving toward a future of power from alternative sources, such as solar
power and wind power (Our Objectives, n.d.). Sustainable development, according to the
Brundtland Report, meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future
generations to the meet their own needs. (IISD) The United Nationshas been at the forefront of this
drive for a more sustainable, namely with the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs), which highlight not only environmental aspects, but also societal (human right based)
(e.g. No Poverty, focus on Gender Inequality). Prior to the creation of the SDGs, were the
Millennial Development Goals (MDGs) during the beginning of the 21st Century, which
eventually became the SDGs. The SDGs implemented several new points that seemingly filled
the gaps , so to speak, left by the MDGs. These goals were adopted in September of 2015 with an
expected fruition date of 2030 (Madeley 2015).
The issue being addressed is the path of countries in their quest for growth and sustainable
development, as a result. For many, there is a shared sentiment that developing countries should not
be put in a position to where they are

8. The Ugly Renaissance Discussion Of Italy
The Ugly Renaissance Discussion
1. Why did the Renaissance originate in Florence and prosper for so many years?
In many ways, Italy had benefits over northern Europe in detaching from the feudal system and
accumulating enormous amounts of wealth. I think that above all else, geography was Italy s anchor
in this respect. Being a projecting land mass sticking out into the Mediterranean Sea, and
beneficially located between the main part of Europe and the Byzantine Empire, cities within Italy
had little choice but to weave endeavors of commerce into every day life while engaging in the
market and foreign trade. Therefore, Italy became prone to the extensive continuity of goods and
novelties earlier than other European areas. Accordingly,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Florence was exposed to the principles and ideologies of foreign regions and immersed them into
the art and literature produced thereafter. That then percolated to the rest of the other European
nations and the rest of Italy itself. The Medici maintained these connections rooted and stable by
way of finance and politics and guaranteed that Florence, throughout the Renaissance, was an
advocate of the arts. Furthermore, had it not been for the establishment of a connection between the
Medici and the Papacy, Florence and Rome, it seems, may have actually been rivals grown under
the essence of partnership and collaboration during the Renaissance. Rome supplied many
Florentine artists with a harbor, and, in turn, Florence took advantage of the administration of the
papal funds.
2. What were the differences from the Middle Ages promoted by the Renaissance? Often, the
Renaissance is acknowledged as an era of artistic refinement. However, couldn t it also be said that
the Renaissance, for the most part, clung to the spiritual and religious motifs of the Middle Ages?
If so, what were the differences, during that period, from the Middle Ages as promoted by the
Renaissance?
Regardless of the likenesses to medieval art encircling subject matter and theme, Renaissance artists
undoubtedly interrupted the stagnant standards of medieval art. As previously stated, the themes of
the Middle Ages were rather consistent, but the Renaissance style was unprecedented in its

9. Analysis Of Denzel Washington s The Best Actor Of All...
One of the most talked about actors today is Denzel Washington, and considered one of the most
engaging men of our time. So we can all agree on the fact that he s the best actor of all time, right
?! Denzel Washington told a reporter who talked with him for a article that What individuals
expound on me is the thing that they are, and they think I am I am who I am, a dark man, said
Washington. He is a dark man with nobility and intellect . A dark man who declines to agree with
injustice , a black man who fails at times, however stands up and starts once more. That gives him
such a great amount of acknowledgment in the reality of film making. Washington explained in
1990 to a journalist who addressed him about his race, I am exceptionally pleased to be dark,
however dark is not all I am. (Denzel WashingtonHis Film and Career)
In spite of the fact that Denzel came from a broken family, his life does not reflect any hint of his
past because of the fact that he is a good father and husband. Great speaker and exceptionally
exquisite are some of words certain individuals use when discussing him. As a devotee of films, I
think Washington has a picture of a performing artist who actuates individuals to expound on his
life and conduct. That is the reason I picked him for my paper since he is a model to imitate. He is
the one among those performing artists who don t let Hollywood degenerate them.

Who is Meredith Willson? How did someone from Mason City get so famous? These questions,

beginnings, Meredith s just happened to start in Mason City. A simple, quick overview of his life
goes a little something like this. Meredith Wilson was born on May 18, 1902, In Mason City, IA.
In high school, he learned how to play the piccolo and flute. In 1919, when he was 17, he
enrolled at New York s Institute of Musical Art, where he studied flute. Between 1921 1923, he

14 pounds and 6 ounces, the largest baby in Iowa. That is insanely large, not even joking! Some

In other words, he was a perfectionist. It makes sense though, his mom was a school teacher,
and his dad was a lawyer. Both of his parents were musically inclined, so performing was in
Meredith s blood. As the book Meredith Willson The Unsinkable Music Man by John C. Skipper

could play a pretty great flute and was ready and rarin to go perform in the John Philip Sousa
band. That s how he was different from other boys, he didn t want to grow to be a professional
baseball player, he wanted to grow up and play in an orchestra. His childhood mainly consisted of

11. Violating Its Investment Treaty Obligations
In order to satisfy the necessity requirements, the responding government must demonstrate that
violating its investment treaty obligations is the only way for the State to safeguard an essential
interest against a grave and imminent peril. Moreover, the breach must not seriously impair an
essential interest of the State towards which the obligations exists . In LG E, the tribunal
determined that economic, financial or those interests related to the protection of the State against
any danger seriously compromising its internal or external situation, are also considered essential
interests. The tribunal in Enron, on the other hand, acknowledged the severity of the crisisbut held
that it had not compromised the existence of the State.
The next requirement of necessity as a defence is the only means standard. That is, if other
measures could lead to the same result, even if they would be more difficult or expensive, those
alternative measures should be pursued. In CMS, EDF, Suez and Sempra, the tribunals found that
human rights were relevant but the necessity defence was because it failed the only means
requirement because the government had other options available. This stringent and literal view of
only means would seem to preclude the use of the defence as there is almost always an alternative.
There have been tribunals that have taken a more liberal interpretation of the requirements. The
first time an investment tribunal accepted a necessity as a

12. The Horror Genre Of Horror Essay
Introduction The horror genre is one of the oldest genres used in storytelling. It was used in old
folklore stories and was commonly used during the ancient Greek plays. Horror genre became
one of the first genres to be adopted into filmmaking in the 1920 s. Though the word horror to
describe in the film genre would not be used until after Universal Pictures released Dracula and
Frankenstein both in 1931. J. A. Cuddon (1984) defined horror in The Penguin Book of Horror
Stories as a piece of fiction in prose of variable length... which shocks or even frightens the
reader, or perhaps induces a feeling of repulsion or loathing (p. 11). Like most genres the
favoritism towards one depends on what is happening in society. Today horror genre continues its
popularity in films and television because the economy is not doing well. There are many
different subgenres to horror but they all have themes that are repeated. This paper will focus on
the science fiction horror subgenre. Science fiction is best defined by writer Robert A. Heinlein
(1959) stated, realistic speculation about possible future events, based solidly on adequate
knowledge of the real world, past and present, and on a thorough understanding of the nature and
significance of the scientific method (n.p.). Science fiction horror films are fictional science based
depictions of phenomena with a horror twist added to it. Often these type of films revolves around

4 Life Lessons From Aeschylus s Oresteia
Greek tragedy contains valuable life advice.
Revenge! Faster, Kill, Kill!
Aeschylus (525 455 BC) retells a story first made popular by Homer. What develops in Oresteia s
three tragedies Agamemnon , The Libation Bearers and The Eumenides could be the plot of
Revenge! Faster, kill, kill! , but behind all this fun stuff philosophical questions peek out.
Beyond the stories told in ancient tragedies, there are topics that were of interest and dispute in
community. The Greeks did not believe in holy commandments to live by, they used the lives of
their heroes as guidelines, myths were really just stories that, depending on the storyteller, could
have a different emphasis.

In The Eumenides Argos is free at last but left alone awaiting for its ruler.
Orestes left home in search of salvation: he is protected by Apollo but still pays for the murder he
committed as the Furies keep him in a continuous hustle. Contact with humans decreases his pain
but cannot redeem him. Only the intervention of another higher authority goddess Athena, will put
an end to this conflict. There are two sides and Athena can fight off the vengeance gods or rally
with them. Instead of this traditional resolution of conflict, Athena calls on the Athenians to judge
Orestes. They cannot decide if he was wrong or right and he is freed of condemnation.
In the end Athena also convinces the Furies to change their ways and protect humans, they agree
and change into The Eumenides, spirits of reason and democracy.
4. The moral applicable to Greek citizens was that they shouldn t be like Orestes, Clytemnestra and
Electra and they should not take justice into their own hands but instead they should solve their
conflicts through law and trials.

16. Are Coaches Ruining A Kid s Love For Sports
Bad coaching, Ruining a kid s love for a sport Are coaches killing childrens love for sports?
Coaches play a large role in how a kid views and plays a sport. It all depends in what type of
coach they are, they could be a good and positive coach for the child or they could be a bad
coach which is a huge negative towards the children. For example, a good coach would keep his
/her voice low after a mistake made by a player and tell him/her what they did wrong. A bad
coach on the other hand would stand up and yell at the kids singling him/her out and telling that
player they suck. Kids could quit a sport they ve loved forever because of how their coaches
handle them and the game. Coaching happens all over the world and for all sports and at any
age. With coaching being everywhere there will be bad coaches. One instance was when coach
Raul Aragon got frustrated with an umpire at a baseball game and was thrown out. He than
chased the umpire around until police arrived, he was coach of an 8 year old baseball team.
Another experience with a bad coach is when Kevin Pope, an assistant football coach, was

In 1991 two German hikers found a body stuck in the ice of Italian mountains. When the body was
first found they thought that he was just another victim of a hiking accident. After further
investigation, they concluded that he wasn t just another body, but in fact a 5,300 year old mummy.
The mummy was named Г–tzi after the Г–tztal Alps where he was found. Although scientists know
how he was killed, they are still speculating why he was murdered. Scientists do know that he
was killed by a 24 inch arrow in his back that caused him to go into cardiac arrest. The arrow was

His ribs had also been broken, and two of his fingers were almost immobilized. This evidence
shows that Г–tzi could have been fighting in a battle before his death. Tom Loy, a scientist who is
studying the case, said He was in a combat situation for between 24 to 48 hours before he died. Loy
also said I think . . . he shot at least two different people and retrieved his arrow,
The fact that he shot at least two different people brings me to the next point. Г–tzi s clothing and
weapons had traces of blood from four people on them. This evidence shows that he most likely
killed someone. I think that he killed those people in the battle, he was fighting in.There could also
have been different people fighting with Г–tzi against the enemy. With the blood on Г–tzi s fur coat
experts think that he might have been carrying a wounded friend from the battle.
The last piece of evidence is the fact the Г–tzi was found on the top of a mountain. I think he was
all the way on the top to get away from the enemy and avoid the battle that was about to happen.
He also knew the trail the best so it would be easier to lose track of the people following him. He
might have been up and down the mountain to confuse them. The evidence to support it is that there

20. Reflection of Learning from the Article Teaching Listener...
Summary
The topic for today s reading was Teaching Listener Skills and Echoics. The first assigned reading,
Teaching Receptive Language Skills and Other Nonverbal Operants, presented how Skinner
describes receptive language as listener skills and doesn t focus at all on developing imitation and
matching skills since he doesn t consider them verbal behavior. However, this does not mean they
are not important. In current verbal behavior (VB) programs, teaching children to respond to these
nonverbal operants is important and occurs early in the programming. The beauty of the receptive
skills is that they do not require a child to speak and many children find them easy to comply with.
Teaching these skills can often turn the tide away from non compliance and frustration to learning.
In addition, Dr. Mark Sundberg has replaced the term receptive skills with the term listener skills.
In the same way that he thought the word expressive was too vague to describe manding, tacting,
intraverbals, and echoic, he believed that developing listener skills was a better way to describe
the process of assessing and developing this skill. Receptive language or listener skills include
being able to respond to another person s direction. Even before a typical child can speak, he will
be able to follow instructions to get a tissue, find the remote control, or point to mommy. Children
with autism usually do not have strong listener skills when they are diagnosed since these skills are

Daisy the cow was born with a birth defect. She had no tail. The process of the genetic transfer is
most likely to be the cause of this. Stefan Wagner, a scientist on the team, said This congenital

about the concept of evolution, he was a revolutionary in developing a theory of evolution that was
consistent. The distinctive element of the evolutionary theory conceived by Darwin is the way he
viewed species. Darwin considered variation among individuals of a species to be natural. He
further argued that variation, far from being problematic, actually provides the explanation for the
existence of distinct species. Darwin adopted elements from Malthus s theory on population growth
and stated that only those members of a population that are capable... Show more content on

B) After gaining a clear understanding of natural selection and its prominence in the theory of
evolution, the possibility of linking human origin with its ancestors (Primates) has become clearer.
Human evolution is characterized by a number of morphological, developmental, physiological, and
behavioral changes but most interestingly the basis for such changes is in understanding the origins
of humans. The Primate order indeed serves as the starting point for human evolution. The Primates
are an ancient and diverse Eutherian group. Although Primates are considered as tropical animals
that live in forest setting, yet they inhabit many kinds of landscapes and live in widely diverse
climates. Primates are divided into two groups, the Strepsirhini and the Haplorhini. Strepsirhines
have long muzzle, wet noses, lower incisors forming a toothcomb, nocturnal, and have an immobile
upper lip. Haplorhines are further divided into two major groups, the Platyrrhini and the Catarrhini.
Platyrrhines include the new world monkeys found mainly in the South and Central America.
Catarrhines include the old world monkeys and Hominoidea. Homioidea are further divided into
apes and humans.
The following physical and behavioral characteristics identify Primates as a separate order of

23. Guy At Arms By Evelyn Waugh
Men at Arms is the first installment of a book trilogy written by English author, Evelyn Waugh.
The novel follows the main character, Guy Crouchback, who just returned to England after living
in Italy in a villa owned by his family. One of the reasons why he moved was because his
marriage had failed. When Guy arrived in England, the Second World War had already started.
Guy looking for a sense of himself began enlisting himself in the Army. Many of the army s he
enlisted turned him down, but he ultimately got accepted into the Royal Corps of Halberdiers, with
the help of his father s connection.
The Crouchback family is one of the wealthiest family with a now reduced number of members.

However, he does say that Guy never felt any guilt for being responsible for his death. Especially
when Ritchie Hook tells him What s all this I hear about you poisoning one of my officers? In
here, Guy did not respond to it, when it came time to board the boat, he just sat far back, away
from everybody s reach. However, you do get a sense that he recognizes that his actions damaged

upon recently watching a movie titled Blow, I found myself asking how something like such
could be related to the embassy bombing events and others, like the bombing of the World Trade

fact it is relevant enough that the past two Presidents (Clinton/Bush Jr.) have drawn up plans to
stop it and it appears that America has an opportunity to tackle two rather large problems in one
fight, killing two birds with one stone per say. The only question left too answer would be what
sacrifices will the citizens of America be forced to make? Where will the line be drawn in the

In 1919, in the wake of World War I, Charles Schenck was arrested on the charge of violating the
Espionage Act of 1917 by encouraging eligible United States citizens not to comply with the draft
during the war. He took his case to the Supreme Court claiming that his freedom of speech granted
to him by the First Amendment had been violated. In a unanimous vote, the court ruled that in
times of “clear and present danger” the freedom of speech clause could be revoked.
This case served as a precedent in times of national crises and has allowed the government to better
protect the citizens of the United States. Many different situations that could fit into the category of
“clear and present danger”, and the term can correctly be defined as any situation in

came wiretapping. From the onset, it has been illegal in the United States for an unauthorized

The seventies became an age where video surveillance was used for everything from law

Underground train stations as well as to monitor highway traffic flow. By the 1980 s, US
businesses and banks adopted the practice, as the value of surveillance quickly took off. In the 1990

advancements revolutionized the surveillance industry (Wilkerson, 2005).
As the computer revolution continued, digital video surveillance became faster, clearer and more
efficient. Months of surveillance could be compressed on hard drives, and images could be
manipulated to improve clarity. From 1997 on, police departments throughout the US installed
video surveillance cameras in public buildings, housing projects and began using mobile

In places like South Africa, the white researcher has less of an advantage in conducting research
because populations are based on color and if you are white then you do not get as many

Recent work on follow the perturbed leader (FTPL) algorithms for adversarial multi armed bandit
problem has highlighted the role of the hazard rate of the distribution generating the perturbations.
Assuming that the hazard rate is bounded allows one to provide regret analyses for a variety of
FTPL algorithms for the multi armed bandit problem. This paper pushes the inquiry into regret
bounds for FTPL algorithms beyond the bounded hazard rate condition. There are good reasons to
do so: natural distributions such as the uniform and Gaussian violate the condition. We give regret
bounds for both bounded support and unbounded support distributions without assuming the hazard
rate condition. We also disprove a conjecture that the Gaussian... Show more content on

The former corresponds to infimal convolution smoothing and the latter corresponds to stochastic
(or integral convolution) smoothing (Abernethy et al., 2014). Having a generic framework for
understanding perturbations allows one to study a wide variety of online linear optimization games
and a number of interesting perturbations.
There has also been some work on understanding perturbation approaches in bandit problems.
Kujala and Elomaa (2005) and Poland (2005) both showed that using the exponential (actually
double exponential/Laplace) distribution in an FTPL algorithm coupled with standard unbiased
estimation techniques yields near optimal O(NT logN) regret in T rounds with N arms. Unbiased
estimation needs access to arm probabilities that are not explicitly available when using an FTPL
algorithm. Neu and BartВґok (2013) introduced the geometric resampling scheme to approximate
these probabilities while still guaranteeing low regret. Recently, Abernethy et al. (2015) analyzed
FTPL for adversarial multi armed bandits and provided regret bounds under the condition that the
hazard rate of the perturbation distribution is bounded. This condition allowed them to consider a
variety of perturbation distributions beyond the exponential, such as gamma, Gumbel, Frechet,
Pareto, and Weibull.
Unfortunately, the bounded hazard rate condition is violated by two of the most widely known
distributions: namely the uniform1 and the Gaussian distributions. As a result, the

34. Ode To A Grecian Urn, And The Lady Of Shallot
Writers ranging from the Victorian age onward have reflected the influence of art within their
works. While art is significant in exhibiting the culture in which such handiwork was produced, the
process of creation was often used as a coping mechanism for most artists, and sometimes an
escape for those who viewed it. This such attitude is reflected within the writings from the
Victorian age to modern times. Poems such as The Dolls by William Yeats, Ode
to a Grecian Urn by
John Keats, and The Lady of Shallot showcase this point by putting emphasis on the art itself,
and its impact upon the artist or narrator. In Ode to the Grecian Urn the narrator asks who canst
thus express/ a flowery tale more sweetly than our rhyme (Keats 3 4). The designs etched upon
the urn seem to showcase a story, one far opposite of the toils of daily life. The narrator is drawn
to the seemingly unmarred tale. In his mind s eye, the life expressed upon the container is
greater than his own; heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard/ are sweeter (11 12). He wants
to live the moments captured within the engravings, despite the impossibility of that happening.
Bold lover, never, never canst thou kiss comes off as morbid. Yet the narrator hurries to reassure

35. Importance Of Public Monuments
Public monuments, by contrast, offer an anachronistic experience: a face to face encounter in a
specially valued place set aside for collective gathering (Source A). Public monuments provide an
escape, or a memory, to people who are willing to sink their teeth into the rich history they provide.
More importantly, memorializing has been apart of humanity since the beginning of time, and we
use it to praise people or events of importance, as well as events that hold great sorrow. Along with
the importance and values that commemorate memorials, comes immense preparation and planning
when building a monument. Therefore, it is important that three main factors from sources E, G,
and C, are taken into consideration when attempting to build a memorial.
Initially, location is the most detrimental factor when planning a memorial. The location should
not only please the people of the area, but also correspond to the location of what it is
memorializing, as well as cause no harm to the artificial or organic structures in the area.
However, some may reject memorials in certain locations because of harmful memories they may
evoke. While some may feel this way, most can accept the fact that a memorial is a beneficial way
to remember an event, whether it s joyful or glum. A clear example in source E states, The
controversy grew from Jewish and non Jewish communities, primarily due to the fact that a
museum dedicated to the memory of the Holocaust would be built in the United States,

The Meaning of Life in Woolf s To the Lighthouse
Life, when viewed as a compilation of fleeting memories and moments, seems chaotic, miserable
and causes one to question the purpose of it. Each of the characters of To the Lighthouse struggle
with this same realization and all strive to find permanence and meaning within their lives. While
the characters search for the meaning of life within their realms of experience, ultimately they all
fail to find lasting meaning. To the Lighthouse, a novel structured by Woolf as deeply involved in
the consciousness of the characters, their perception of meaning in the world, and the ephemeral
nature of life, ultimately suggests that although the goal of finding meaning in life is unattainable,
it is the struggle for balance and meaning that achieves purpose and self contentment. Throughout
the novel, the lighthouse symbolizes the ultimate destination, as it represents the moment the
characters find the true meaning of life. Once the characters complete the journey to the lighthouse
they are able to embrace the ephemeral nature of life and find meaning within it.
Through exploring the consciousness of her characters with depth and intensity, Woolf creates a
world in which she traces her characters thoughts and actions in relation with the world around
them. As a result, she enters her characters lives, describing their hopes, aspirations, dreams and
fears never once detaching

need to have consideration which has to be received as stated in the contract. Consideration is

Sexually transmitted disease is currently one of the major health concerns in the world today.
Herpes simplex virus is one cause of STDs. There are two types of HSV present namely HSV 1
which is often found in the mouth area and HSV 2 found at the genitals. Indirect ELISA was used in
order to determine the presence of Herpes simplex among 3 different samples. Indirect ELISA
involves two antibodies; the primary antibody which is bound to the antigen and secondary
antibody bound to the primary antibody. Results produced by indirect ELISA produces better
amplified signal. Results obtained showed that 1 of the 3 samples tested positive for HSV.
Indirect ELISA however cannot determine what specific type of HSV is present in the sample.
The cause of HSV 1 is the exchange of body fluids particularly obtained through kissing while
sexual contact causes HSV 2. Though it rarely happens, there are possibilities that false positive or
false negative results were obtained in Indirect ELISA. Interference may cause error.

function.
An acid and base are distinguished by the negative hydrogen concentration in a substance. If a
substances loses its hydrogen concentration, it is more acidic. If a substance accepts more
hydrogen, it is considered a base. The pH scale operates as a logarithmic function because the value
changed 10x or greater. A pH of 3 is 10x more acidic than a substance with a pH of 4.

45. Consequences Associated With Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)
There is no consensus regarding the mechanism of manifestation of neurocognitive consequences
associated with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and their definite underlying process is unknown.1
However, there are some findings and theories about it. In OSA, there are different levels of
hypoxia, which are associated with many factors such as obesity and severity of upper airway
obstruction.1 The hippocampus has a region (CA1), which is more vulnerable and sensitive to the
hypoxia that leads to inflammatory responses (COX 2, TNF a),2 which can bring about endothelial
dysfunctions,3 disturbances of the cerebrovascular blood flow,3 and consequently neuronal cell
death.3 In addition, it provokes oxidative stress and nitric oxide synthase (iNOS).2... Show more

Another finding is related to Nox2 and NDPH (subtype of Nox2) which cause neural injury, and
result in impaired learning.2 Individuals who have none of these factors, genetically, are less
vulnerable to neural injuries and their consequences than who have them.2 Furthermore, Nox2
can activate hypoxia inducible factor 1a (HIF 1a) and increase its level, which may be
responsible for the neurocognitive disorders.2 As well as this, Nox2 affects the level of HIF 2a,
which is responsible for anti oxidative activity, and decreases it that lead to increased oxidative
responses and neuronal

others, providing them the opportunity to be heard and know that their opinion matters, motivating

For sustainable development what is required is an investment in the research related to teaching
and pedagogy to best prepare and qualify the students who are to build our communities and who

Without the dependence on the faculty, this marks the starting point of his/her personal career. To
achieve the foregoing, more contact hours are required and deep understanding of their thinking,
ambitions and goals for each separate curriculum. This will create self motivated individuals who
will be inspired to construct their best work and optimal achievement.
To effect this, what is needed is an awareness of the psychological factors of the students. This can
be achieved through an open discussion with the students, especially in challenging times. Learning
disabilities must also be factored in. Individual differences of the students should also be considered
in group learning sessions and general lectures. Individual supports should be put in place to
support students and assist in avoidance of negative results, which could lead to discouragement.
All of the above strategies would raise the level of student. This can be achieved through effective
communication, studying individual personalities, and conducting ongoing individual conferencing
with the students. This will lead to a general picture about the student and how best to deal with
each student, as per their personalities. Assigning groups by learning style would help achieve the
best learning performance and fulfill the ideal outcome of the entire learning process.

51. Definition of Citizen Essay
Definition of Citizen
The context in which words are used may change in everyday conversation, but ultimately the
foundation of the definition remains constant. The number one definition generally changes due to
advancement in society. Consider the word citizen. The meaning of the word citizen has changed
since 1913, but the definition that is used today was also used back then.
There are some commonalities between The Webster Dictionary, published in 1913 and The Oxford
English Dictionary, as well as, The American Heritage College Dictionary. Each of the dictionaries
all state that a citizen is an inhabitant of a city or a particular place and a person that has voting
rights. In these cases the definition of the word has not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under this definition, African Americansand women were not included. African Americans were
not included until the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Women were included in 1918. Therefore a
citizen was, for the most part, a white male. Since the Civil Rights Movement and Women s
Suffrage the definition has changed significantly. In the two more recent dictionaries the number
one definitions have nothing to do with freedom or voting rights. It is the secondary definitions that
use voting as a qualification of a citizen.
All of these definitions noted above work but then the question arises, are people under eighteen
years of age, who cannot vote, considered citizens? People under eighteen fall into the category
of being inhabitants of a city, town, state, or nation. In the definitions of The Oxford English
Dictionary and The American Heritage College Dictionary they do not say one must be able to
vote: they simply say especially one who can vote. A person under eighteen is considered to be a
citizen because the potential to vote is there. It is because of this potential that these people are
protected under the laws and considered citizens.
The meaning of the word citizen has changed since 1913. Although the primary definition of the
word appears to have remained

52. Skewed Appearences of Reality in Herman Melville’s Benito...
Both Herman Melville s Benito Cereno and Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown contain
matters of skewed appearances and reality. Though both texts have themes of hidden truths, both
have different outcomes when characters of their respective texts have their veil lifted: Goodman
Brown is forever changed by his new perspective whereas Delano remains unperturbed by what he
learns. In addition to this theme of appearance versus reality, both texts explore the consequences
of this unveiling and, in connection, explore ideas of good versus eviland innocence turned into
corruption.
In Melville s Benito Cereno, Captain Delano s perspective of the happenings on the San Dominick
ship is skewed through the deceptive actions of Babo and his captive Don Benito. Delano s belief
that every human being is inherently innocent and honest causes him to misread the situation and
leaves him unaware of the impending danger that he and Don Benito are in. Filled ...with a
qualmish sort of emotion, rather than investigating or confronting Don Benito when faced with
compromising, unsettling facts, Delano chooses to continue his stay on the ship ...as one feeling
incipient sea sickness, he [strives], by ignoring the symptoms... (Melville 64). It is this quality of
Delano s, choosing to ignore what is a blatant issue and opting to believe that everyone is a decent
person at heart, which ultimately causes this veil to cloud the reality of the situation to him.

Language, Exemplar, and Goodness of Fit
Although it is clear that human language is a very different communication system than those of
other species. The jury is still out on the issue of whether language is a really a system different
from other human cognitive systems. The status of language is a major issue for cognitive
psychology.
Human Language
The ability to separate the essential aspects of human language from the properties of a particular
language can shed light on how language is developed and where the differences come from. A
principle feature of human language is the duality of patterning. It enables us to use our language in
a very economic way for a virtually infinite production of linguistic units. All human language have
a small limited set of speech sounds. The human brain has featured strongly associated with
language. The human language contains discrete units, which would serve to disqualify the bee
language system. Humans require a language to have discrete units is not just an arbitrary
regulation to disqualify. The discreteness enables the elements of the language to be combined into
an almost infinite number of phrase structures and for these phrase structures to be transformed. It
is a striking fact that all people in the world, even those in isolated communities, speak a language.
No other species spontaneously use a communication system anything like human language. All
reasonable people would concede that there is some special connection

The acceptance and respect for diverse cultures comes from being aware of what goes on
between the people of a particular culture. Cultural awareness is the appreciation of outer signs of
diversity such as the music, dress, arts and physical characteristics (Purnell, 404). Being respectful
and open to different cultures isn t just about appreciation the beauty of the people and their
beliefs, it is also about having the knowledge to be able to communicate and care for patients of
another culture. Cultural competence takes in thought the patients beliefs and practices, not just
the external views of a culture. In order to be competent as a health care professional, one must be
able to deliver care accordingly for a patient s culture. Not only, do they have to obtain the
knowledge, abilities and skill to treat the patient effectively, but they must also choose their words
carefully. Since cultures differ from patient to patient, one must accept that before they open his/her
mouth. Every culture has a different way of speaking, not necessarily a different language, but a
way of talking to one another. Health care professionals must be sensitive to what they say to their
