Responsibility Of Raising A Child
Responsibility Of Raising A Child A seven year old child yells at her teacher because he has not
chosen her to answer a question. The child then continues to throw herself on the ground screaming
and kicking over the teacher s unfair ways. Who has raised this child to act in such ways? What makes
it okay for a child to yell at an elder? This behavior is heavily frowned upon in society, but how does
one stop this behavior early? As a child growing up you don t think about where your education of
right and wrong comes from but as a parent, one would wonder heavily on the subject. Parents most
often take control on their own accord without letting the community have any say in the way they
raise their own child. Some parents, however, may say that everyone in the community, including
teachers, coaches, and maybe members of the church, must have his/her own part in the child s
growing process. This poses the question of who exactly should be responsible of a child s knowledge
of appropriate behavior. When in reality, the community as a whole are responsible for teaching a
child appropriate behavior. Parents find it hard to say No to their children and are permissive resulting
in a spoiled child who is in control of the parent rather than vice versa. According to Levine,
Madeline. Raising Successful Children. The New York Times. The New York Times, 4 Aug. 2012.
Web. 2016., it is called being a helicopter parent . Levine says, The happiest, most successful

John Stuart Mill on Individual Liberty Essay
John Stuart Mill on Individual Liberty
Definition of Individual liberty
In his work On Liberty, Mill placed much emphasis on individual liberty and its vital role in political
society. To Mill, this phrase may be defined as the liberty of the individual to be the final judge over
his actions; to decide what is right and wrong and to act upon that standard. On a secondary level, it
also implies one s freedom to pursue one s own individuality. Mill believed in a society in which each
individual leads his own distinctive life according to his own unique talents; unfettered by regulations
upon thought, opinion, actions etc.
However, Mill asserts an important caveat; that which he calls `the very simple principle . He writes,
`That ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Value of Individual Liberty
Indeed, Mill asserted that the cultivation of one s individuality should be the goal of human existence.
He wrote On Liberty as an argument against repressive laws which inhibit voluntary association and
suppress original ideas and ways of thinking, in a bid to protect the freedom of the individual from
stifling social conventions, oppressive legal controls and censorship. What is the value of individual
liberty that calls for it to be defended so fervently by Mill?
Individual Liberty and Truth
Firstly, Mill believes that individual liberty is instrumental in the attainment of truth. No one can claim
an infallibility of knowledge or a definite truth. Falsehoods are often sprinkled with specks of truth;
and truth may exists as half truths held by different people, and it is only through controversy that the
truth in the parts can be unified into a larger canvas of the ultimate truth. If one s actions were to be
censored completely, society would lose those specks of truth amongst the falsehoods, which would
be disadvantageous to society.
Furthermore, truth is very often not derived from the masses, but from the ideas of a select few. If
these people are silenced by repressive laws or mass opinion, society will be deprived of a chance to

Ergonomics and Good Work Habits
Ergonomics is the scientific, interdisciplinary study of individuals and their physical relationship to
their environment. Ergonomics can be further defined as the design of the workplace, equipment,
machine, tool, product, environment, and system, taking into consideration human s physical,
physiological, biomechanical, and psychological capabilities. Ergonomic design is the application of
this body of knowledge to the design of tools, machines, systems, tasks, jobs, and environments for
safe, comfortable and effective human use. The term ergonomics is derived from the Greek word
ergos meaning work and nomos meaning natural laws of or study of. In the United States, the term
human factors engineering is often used.

An ergonomists can also assess existing products and services, showing where they fail to ‘fit the
user (in every sense of the word) and suggesting how this fit may be improved.
Ergonomists have helped many businesses improve working conditions and employee health issues
related to computer and office work. In many cases, most employers are responsible for any health
issues that may arise from their employees due to work hazards. Work hazards may be caused by
many different factors in the environment. In the average computer workstation, employees are prone
to over a dozen hazards. There exist two factors that can prevent this: forming good work habits and
ergonomically designed computer workstations. These work hazards can cause several different
injuries such as, Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), Cumulative Trauma Disorder (CTD), and Repetitive
Motion Disorder (RMD). They are described as painful conditions of the hands, arms, neck, and back
that develop over days, weeks or years. Epidemiological research has determined that if these
biomechanical conditions are present, the incidence of work related injuries increase. These conditions
are therefore known as risk factors for musculoskeletal injury. Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI) takes
place from the repeated physical movements of certain body parts which result in damage to tendons,
nerves, muscles, and other soft body

Death In A. E. Houseman s To An Athlete Dying Young
Death is an unavoidable element of the world in which we live. The rich and the poor, the strong and
the weak, the brave and the cowardly all must face the end of existence one day. People in this world
often choose to ignore this looming threat and live their lives as if this terminus does not exist. One
does not fall into this trend category: A. E. Houseman. As said by one observer There are two themes
in Houseman: man s morality...and man s rebellion against his lot. (Conolly 49). Houseman s poem To
An Athlete Dying Young is no exception. Here he delves into the dreaded and complex subject of
early death (Ruby ed. 228, 230). In the poem To an Athlete Dying Young from A Shropshire Lad by
A.E. Housman one can see the choices in his style, which are used to cover both sides of the central
theme of death, and the author s use of symbolism as a device. To An Athlete Dying Young has
multiple noticeable features in its style. The poem is written in the form of a narrative poem, or lyric
ballad, in which a story is told. This form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this passage Houseman mentions And early though the laurel grows, It withers quicker than the rose
(Houseman 32). For this reason the laurel is symbolic of accomplishment, fame, and honor. This
symbol ties into another meaning of the poem. As the critic Bruce Meyers explained The difference
between the crowning of garlands is the irony at the heart of the poem. The hero s crown... that the
town pays the athlete on his victory, withers away like the floral headgear of a young girl. As he
concludes, The message is that death is the final victor. (Meyers 236). The laurel is representative of
our short lives and they wither quickly like the athlete. With each season the flowers first bloom, then
flourish, and finally dry up; life does not remain for long (Ruby ed. 233, 235). Here the poem offers
another perspective where death is the victor over the

Historical Roots Of Humanism And Modern Psychology Essay
Historical Roots of Humanism and Modern Psychology Psychology is by nature dynamic. This can be
attributed to the aspect that it directly relates and endeavours to explain humanity and human beings
are the most dynamic of all the things that exist on earth. In fact, they are the genesis of the changes
and diversities experienced in different areas of life. Therefore, anything that directly relates to human
beings cannot evade dynamism. In the context of humanism and modern psychology, changes have
been witnessed in these fields of psychology. Humanism is a psychological approach that explains,
holistically, the individual uniqueness of each individual. It mostly emphasizes on studying the whole
being of a human being. It is a psychological approach that analyzes the uniqueness of an individual
by looking into the way such an individual perceives himself. Two components are outstanding
regarding this approach that it is based on self concept and believes a human being s behaviour is
highly integrated with the inner feelings. Its existence is based on the limitations of observed in the
psychology of behaviourists and psychodynamics. In fact, humanism is the basis for modern
psychology. This is because it investigates the meanings values and freedoms surrounding the
tragedies, responsibilities and potential of human beings. The aspects of spirituality and self
actualization are also very imminent in the concept of humanism. However, like any other concept of
psychology, its

The Ban Of The Tobacco Advertising
Government involvement is often a subject of controversy and raises questions on when it should and
shouldn t be involved. There can always be a case made either way based on personal viewpoint and
what issue is being discussed; this is no different when looking at the Indian Government s
deliberation over tobacco marketing and the usage of tobacco impacting their economy and
population. The Government of India proposed bans on tobacco advertising leading to arguments for
and against, it is however important to analyze both sides those in favor an those against, and any
conflicts of interest that may be involved.
Taking a closer look at those in favor of the tobacco advertising bans there are several factors to be
considered. The Government of India wasn t the first country to deliberate over such a decision, but
rather was following in the footsteps of countries like France, Finland, and Norway all of whom had
already chosen to enact advertising bans on tobacco. One of the first arguments to be made in favor of
the advertising bans was that the government had the right to step in and protect the overall health of
its citizens citing examples like cocaine, a drug banned the world over . In 1981 in Belgium then 1991
in France court rulings were made declaring that bans on tobacco advertising were in fact not
unconstitutional, as it was based on the need to protect public health, and did not curtail the freedom
of trade . Questions were then brought up regarding what

The Impact Of Globalization In South Africa
Many different contexts group together to make up the term globalization such as: technology, trade,
offshoring, outsourcing integration, migration, transportation, and environmental pollution. In plain
terms, globalization can be described as a process that embraces economic and cultural transmissions
between countries. This process is intended to improve the function of economic activities worldwide.
The movement also supports the idea of internationalism. Influencing a nation to adopt new political
views and educational values can be a potentially positive way to help a struggling nation develop.
However, economic improvement in this situation is not always the case. Research provides an
irregular pattern concerning economic development. Focusing in on the impact of globalization in
South Africa, both positives and negatives have played a part in this country s struggle to compete
with the rest of the world.
INTRODUCTION
Historically, the South African economy has been largely unstable mostly due to political issues.
Although, considering its counterparts, South Africa shows the most promise for economic
development and growth (Jordaan, 2010 pg.5). In 1990 South Africa entered the global market after
overcoming major political issues such as apartheid. Many economists agree that the changes the
South African government has made to be able to compete globally, are for the better (Wessel, 2007).

Holding Out For a Hero
I was really super excited for this trip, words can t explain. I was planning on coming to Cali soon, but
I had to raise money. This trip is all free. I get to go to San Diego, California. Wow. I had just finished
zipping my suitcase when I heard the car horn. The Jacks are here! I smiled widely already getting
butterflies about everything and ran down with my stuff. It was a struggle, but never stop an ambitious
girl who is about to fly to San Diego. I opened my front door and motioned for one of them to get out
of the car and come help with my bags. I only had one suitcase but it was heavy. I grabbed my carry
on and jogged to the car as Johnson grabbed my suitcase. I made sure that my phone and laptop were
fully charged once we were on our way. I reached into my bag and looked for my books making sure I
had brought them. What else am I supposed to do on the plane?
San Diego is going to be sweet! We re meeting the guys up at the beach after we get there, Johnson
exclaimed and pumped his fist. I giggled at his personality and nodded. I ve always wanted to go to
the beach.
I m so excited guys, you have no idea! I shook my hands, a little habit I do since I was little. My mom
used to tell me to shake off all the nerves, so I d shake my hands, I m so excited for the beach. The
sun, the sand, the water, the bikinis, and the hot guys.
Agh! Gilinsky looked genuinely hurt, The only hot guys you should be focused on there are me and
Jack.

Ntroduction.Recently, The Student Run Newspaper Published
ntroduction Recently, the student run newspaper published their daily edition with many hasty stories
about students, staff, and faculty. The April Fools edition was meant to be a comedic spoof on campus
activities, however, this year it was not so. The students wrote about the Renaissance club who
attacked a group of Chinese students, a soccer coach who was arrested for domestic violence and a
faculty member who was a militant member of a secret society. None of the stories are true. Many of
the key actors are showing their power through disgruntled messages. It seems as though the
newspaper has lost its values over the years and may need to be connected with the student
government. There are many ways to resolve the issue including ... Show more content on

This is monetarily consuming. Departments who are feeling the affect of the budget reductions may
feel bitter towards the newspaper. The other departments have needs that they feel are more important,
for example, the graduate student department. They are having to cut funds to their graduate students
and yet the newspaper is fully operational. This is also a display of conflicting resources. The
university has a diminishing budget. Many groups on campus have been affected by this and are
claiming whatever power they have left to keep their remaining budget. If one group makes a mistake
and the other has a chance to claim some of their budget, they surely will. This changes the dynamic
that departments have with each other.
The office of Residential Life and the Graduate School have both expressed their concern for their
international student s safety. This is a problem for our university reputation. If news spreads about the
uncomfort students feel, even in response to a fake article, it could threaten our potential student s
outlook on our university. The two departments are reinforcing the idea because they have not calmed
the fire. Instead of going directly to the source of the articles, they have chosen to turn to a higher
department to explain their grievances which creates a conflict between the newspaper and the other
two departments.
Lastly, the NCAA has expressed their distaste in regards to their

How Sport Has Changed My Life
Introduction: Fùtbol or soccer, it doesn t matter the way you say it, although what it has done for us as
humans is very significant. For me soccer is everything I play it, watch it, and talk about it, the sport
has led my life since I first gained interest towards it in grade four. There must be a reason why it the
most watched sport in the world, it brings everyone in the world together no matter what race,
nationality, or gender. Ever since grade six I have been trying to encourage soccer into my projects for
school, I haven t had a chance of properly incorporating my true passion. This is until now, the first
time I ever heard of the personal project was the first time I came to Carson Graham. Our school in
grade seven brought us to this massive school in which we had no clue about why we were actually
there. The first presentation I saw was someone who built a robot that could follow lights for
direction. The thought that I had to do this project in grade ten scared me, I had no clue what I really
wanted to do. This was until I started thinking about it more and one thought came into my mind, that
was to create Goal Line Technology. This form of technology was quite new at the time, this was
because they just announced that they were going to start using it in one of the top five leagues in
Europe, the first league to incorporate it was the Barclay s Premier League. My project goal was to
create a fully working demo of Goal Line Technology. At first I was scared that I

We re All Becoming Poor, But We Can Do Something

We re all becoming poor, but we can do something
Did you know that about 4.8 million people in Canada live in poverty? It is not just the countries in
the East who you think are poor; many countries in Europe and North America have individuals who
live in poverty because of various factors affecting them. These may include low wages, fewer
benefits, housing shortage and of course, their lifestyle or way of living. Poverty can also be tied to the
government of that city or country and certain rules or laws set by the government could affect these
people. Although we are living in an era where we are making many technological advances, poverty
is still increasing. Poverty is increasing again because of inequality, poor decisions made by some of
political leaders, and by the members of our own communities.
To understand how worse the situation of poverty has become in Canada, we have to look at statistics
that show how poverty has increased over the years. Poverty has been increasing as residents struggle
to put food on their tables. For example, in Canada, child poverty has increased to from 12.8% to
15.1% from the mid 1990s, ( Canada Falling behind on Poverty, Inequality, says Report. 1) and 15%
of children in Canada currently live under poverty because they have less access to necessities. It is
not surprising that UNICEF has rated Canada 17th out of the 29 wealthy countries in the world. (

In The Middle Of The 19Th Century, Congo Square Became
In the middle of the 19th century, Congo Square became a center of musical expression. On these
Sunday afternoons, a new form of music was born. Pioneered by those on the bottom of a society full
of slavery and segregation, the origin of jazz was less a singular event than an evolving movement.
None of those pioneers, however, could have anticipated the future of their developing art form. None
could have foreseen that their informal rhythmic gatherings would eventually lead to nationally
recognized big bands with more than 20 musicians and celebrity band leaders. The trajectory of jazz
history is complex and rich, flowing from style to style and from region to region. Each step along the
way from the early brass bands to the bebop bands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Largely a remnant of military bands from the civil war, these provincial brass bands maintained a
public presence with parades, parties, celebrations, and funerals. Fusing traditional marches with the
developing ragtime styles and the cultural celebratory music of Congo Square, these bands started
infusing their music with blues notes, syncopated rhythms, and jazz like phrasing to get their
audiences dancing. The instrumentation of these brass bands emphasized brass instruments,
polyphonic musical style with a carrying tone, sectional playing within the band; many of these
characteristics translated into early jazz forms. Though the label suggests a band comprising solely
brass musicians, early Louisiana bands also included clarinet and saxophone. In the smaller bands
used for indoor performances, a smaller string band was used, composed of cornet, violin, guitar, bass,
and piano. These existing ensembles influenced the early jazz bands in New Orleans. Buddy Bolden s
band is widely considered the first true jazz band in New Orleans; according to a rare photograph from
1905, featured a pair of clarinets, cornet, valve trombone, guitar, and bass. Though the earliest bands
were never recorded, jazz historians such as William Schafer have speculated about the influence of
the brass band roots on the development of jazz style: black New Orleans brass band nurtured a
characteristic outdoor playing style with lots of

Global Migration From 1700 To 1900 CE, The World
Global Migrations CCOT Between 1700 CE and 1900 CE, the world saw radical growth and change.
New inventions, technologies and innovations led to major shifts in power and new societies emerged.
A common theme between these two dates is the migration of peoples for a variety of reasons. Some
left their homelands due to push factors, like famine, war and disease. Some left due to pull factors,
like economic prosperity, religious tolerance and freedom. From 1700 CE to 1900 CE, global
migration experienced a continuity in long distance migration to the Americas as a result of a need for
labor. Although there is a continuity, there are major changes in the push and pull factors for migration
such as like the Irish Potato Famine and the migration of immigrants into Australia due to the promise
of economic prosperity. The migration of people into the Americas was a continuity between 1700 CE
and 1900 CE. In the 1700s, predominantly European settlers migrated to the Americas in search of
economic gain. Many found this in the form of the plantation system. The need for labor on these
plantations led to the large scale migration of slaves. Slaves were essential to the economy of the
Americas and even to the parent countries in Europe as they were a cheap, reliable source of labor.
These slaves were part of a larger mercantilist system called the Atlantic Slave Trade. The slave trade
peaked in the 1700s with millions of African slaves being forced to migrate into the Americas. The

The Middle East chapter in our mythology book contained the stories The Enuma elish, Osiris, Isis,
and Horus, Telepinu, and Gilgamesh. Throughout these four stories, we learn how the Babylonian and
Egyptian gods were created, and read about the adventures of other gods. The first story is The Enuma

ruler of the sweet waters, and Tiamat was the rulers of the salt waters. After a few generations of gods,
Ea was born from Anu and Nintu. Ea was stronger than his father and his grandfather, so he became
the god of the earth. After a while, the younger gods were starting to become annoying to the older
gods, because they were being to rowdy. Apsu s idea to stop their behavior was to destroy all the

a Golden Age for them, but Set wanted to rule Egypt. So this story is about Set trying to become the

the time that Telepinu got so angry that all crops and vegetation died, and humans feared that they

The Industrial Revolution And Its Impact On Society
Do you ever look around in our busy everyday life full of car rides, texting, internet, high speed travel,
etc. and wonder how and when we made the jump from horse drawn carriages to modern day life? The
Industrial Revolution is one of the greatest and most impactful time in our nation s history that made
all of these changes come to life and impacted not just the people who lived during the time, but even
the life we re living today. The Industrial Revolution created many new types of industries, businesses,
and products that changed the consumer culture of the time along with society as a whole. This not
only includes society from that time period but for modern day life as well. The Industrial Revolution
started in Europe and it really took off in Britain in the early 1700 s. Prior to the revolution people
lived in small rural town and most life revolved around farming or very low income jobs. Many
people made their own cloths, built their own tools, made there own furniture, and produced their own
food. The Industrial Revolution was the movent that changed this way of life and made it so the rural
lifestyle wasn t the main way of living anymore. Britain was the ideal society to start off the Industrial
Revolution because they had a politically strong economy at the time, and they sat on huge deposits of
iron and coal which was a great influence on the Revolution and its needs. Eventually this Revolution
made its way to the United States. During the time of the 19th

negative context; it carries a negative charge. However, there are those who persist in asserting the

incredibly high standards for themselves, and are conditioned to accept nothing short of perfection in
the work that they do. The overwhelming stress of living up to the highest standards causes students to
suffer psychological, emotional, and academic costs, and they begin to measure their self worth by
quantitative achievement; poor performance is indicative of inferiority. These attitudes are ingrained
during developmental years and persist in later years. The model minority creates an illusion of perfect
Asian American students who feel emotionally isolated and hopeless because their needs become
neglected and ignored. Students refuse to seek help in times of need because doing so seems like
admitting failure. When Asian American students fail to meet academic goals and standards, they
suffer from feelings of shame and inadequacy.

Adversity In Chris Gardner s The Pursuit Of Happyness
There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its
own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time. Malcom X said this quote long ago
and it s still relatable to this day. Adversity takes courage, heart, and perseverance. All these qualities
will make your hardtimes worth it after a devastating heartbreak, but making the right choice however,
is not a cakewalk. The easy road is there with a big sign saying: It is too hard to move on! Just stay
here! This is a tempting offer for some, but others have a different thought in mind. Their story does
not end there, it is just beginning. The choice of having adversity is there and only the strong minded
will take it and continue their story, and their next step towards success. Adversity is the art of
overcoming obstacles and persevering to the next task on the path to becoming successful. ... Show

Types And Types Of Insulin
1 INTRODUCTION
Pancreas, an organ that sits behind the stomach, releases hormones into the digestive system. In a
healthy body, when the glucose level gets too high, special cells in the pancreas called the beta cells
release Insulin. Insulin is a hormone which causes cells to take in the glucose and use it as energy or
store it as fat. Diabetes, a lifelong metabolism disorder causes high blood sugar levels.
There are three major types of Diabetes
1. Type 1 diabetes
It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and kills the beta cells in pancreas resulting in
no or very little production of insulin in body. As a result, glucose builds up in the blood instead of
being used as energy. Type 1 diabetes generally develops in childhood or adolescence but can also
develop in adulthood. Type 1 diabetes has to be always treated with Insulin.
2. Type 2 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body cannot properly use the insulin that is released in the body or
does not make enough insulin. It more often develops in adults. Type 2 diabetes may be managed
through physical activity and meal planning or may also require medications and/ or insulin to control
the blood glucose in body.
3. Gestational diabetes
It is a condition that women can get when they are in the second trimester of pregnancy. About 4
percent of all the pregnant women develop gestational diabetes. Unlike Type1 and Type 2 diabetes,
gestational diabetes may disappear after the baby is born.

African American Music In The 1960s
A time of disruption in: society, fashion, mindsets and music epitomised the United States in the
1960s. Before the mid 1960s, music still mirrored the sound, stylistic traits and views of the prior
decade. Many of the popular records were by artists who had found mainstream success in the 1950s,
such as Ray Charles, Elvis Presley and Bill Haley his Comets. From the mid 1960s onwards, a number
of social influences changed what popular music was and introduced us to the miscellany that even
today we experience with music. The assassination of President Kennedy (1963), the intensification of
the Vietnam War (1965 1973) and the advancement of the Civil Rights Movement (1963) all had a
significant impact on the disposition of American culture and the music began to reflect that. (Holz,
2010) One of the artists that erupted at this pivotal time was James Brown. Rather than the backbeat
that characterised African American music, James Brown developed his signature groove that
accentuated the downbeat. Heavy emphasis was put on the first beat and in some cases the third beat
of every measure to form his characteristic sound. (Parker and Gross, 1989) This one, three beat
propelled the stint in James Brown s signature music style with I Got You (I Feel Good) (1965) being

Should the Federal Government continue funding Planned Parenthood? Planned Parenthood is an
organization that has been around since at least 1921. Recently, it has been in the limelight due to the
on going Presidential debates leading up to the 2016 election. It appears that the Republicans want to
take away all federal funding to shut down the clinics where as the democrats believe that the
republicans are misguided in their claims. The Planned Parenthood Federation of America is a non
profit organization, funded by the Federal Government, in which it provides reproductive/maternal
health services among the United States as well as internationally, since 1952. In recent news
developments, there have been rumors that Planned Parenthood practices inhumane procedures when
aborting an unborn baby to harvest their organs and that a law should be passed to stop this. The
supporters for Planned Parenthood claim that these claims are unfounded and believe that Planned
Parenthood is a wonderful association that helps women and men all around the world. This issue has
caused a series of debates that have been going on for years, but Planned Parenthood still lives on.
This current debate whether Planned Parenthood should be funded by the Federal Government is a hot

Comparing Lord Of The Flies And Beowulf s Death
9/11, Sandy Hook, Orlando, Boston Marathon, Hurricane Katrina, and Iraq/Afghanistan war; all these
events revolve around death and destruction. When Time magazine asked Americans to rank the most
significant event in their lifetime those were the events they choose. Death... the biggest impact and
influence in people s life and minds. We see death take place in Lord of the Flies and Beowulf. Both
stories have appalling and perplexing events that take place throughout the novel. Many of the events
that take place result in death. While these stories revolve around death, Piggy and Simon s death, in
Lord of the Flies, were much more influential to the other characters, plot, and the overall theme than
Beowulf s death.
Death can be influential to any story by the way it impacts a character. One character in Beowulf who
was affected by death was Wiglaf. Our glorious king! By almighty God, I d rather burn myself than
see Flames swirling around my lord (Unknown 725 727) Wiglaf broke down emotionally at the sight
of Beowulf s death. This shows Wiglaf s loyalty to Beowulf, and how he truly cared about Beowulf s
well being. Just like Beowulf had Wiglaf, Simon and Piggy had Ralph on their side. Ralph was
emotionally distressed after Simon s death specifically because of how it happened. Ralph was never
able to fully let it go; that s one reason why he breaks down in front of the soldier at the end of the
novel.
After Piggy and the conch were destroyed, Ralph, with no hope left, was worried he would be next
and actually had to run away from the rest of the boys on the island. The boys left on the island could
care less about the fact that those two boys were killed and that blood was on their hands. Those boys
were even excited about the possibility of killing Ralph. This happens to be a way more influential
and important fact to know about the characters in Lord of the Flies because they started to enjoy
death. The boys would chant and sing songs about slitting the pig s throat as if it were a game. In
contrast, Wiglaf was very distraught over the death of his king. After Beowulf s death the soldiers set
up a tower to overlook a creek and they buried jewels in his honor. Typically, Beowulf was only
treated one way

Mrs. Harris s Heart Failure
In the case study it discusses a patient, Mrs. Harris, who is a 72 year old and is complaining of fatigue
and swelling in her feet. Mrs. Harris also expresses her concern on the swelling, as some days she is
unable to put her shoes on despite proper elevation. She also states walking to her mailbox can be
challenging because it causes her to feel more tired and to have shortness of breath, also known as
dyspnea. Mrs. Harris is currently taking medication for high blood pressure, hypertension; and is also
drinking approximately 8 12 glasses of wine a week. While examining Mrs. Harris it s clear she is a
little overweight and has swollen ankles. Upon listening to Mrs. Harris s breathing, crackles are heard.
Therefore, Mrs. Harris seems to have congestive heart failure.
Heart failure describes the heart s inability to function properly, meaning the heart is unable to pump
efficiently throughout the body. Thus causing the heart to work extra hard in order to compensate the
body s needs, but this ultimately leads to failure. And due to Mrs. Harris s hypertension and alcohol
consumption, she is now displaying signs and symptoms of congestive heart failure, as both are major
risk factors. Heart failure can be seen in the left side, which is also known as congestive heart failure,
and the right side of heart. The left side is typically the first side to fail, as the left ventricle is the heart
s largest chamber and the most powerful.

Themes in Blue Velvet
Exploring the Dark Side: Contrasting Themes in Blue Velvet
The subconscious psyche is one of the most fascinating and almost completely inexplicable aspects of
human behavior. Even more intriguing than merely the subconscious is the notion of a darker, more
repressed side that many individuals refuse to acknowledge exists within them. In David Lynch s film
Blue Velvet, the director attempts to explore the psyche of a young man named Jeffrey Beaumont,
most notably the clash between his darker side and good side for the first time in his life. Using
themes that sharply contrast one another, Lynch provides insight into the character of Jeffrey and the
struggle that he is faced with. Jeffrey is in a transitional period of his life, ... Show more content on

Lynch chooses to use such stark contrast in an effort to establish not only the differences in one s
perception, but of the psyche as well. The opening sequence is used by Lynch as a metaphor for
Jeffrey s state of mind throughout the entire film, as Jeffrey realizes he has a dark side yet is trying
(most of the time) to suppress it. The town of Lumberton, like Jeffrey, is an idealized version of what
America and Americans should be like and yet, much like Jeffrey s mind, it is full of dark secrets and
contradictions. One aspect of Jeffrey s psyche being explored is the notion of his battle between
innocent love for a young girl and the animalistic lust he possesses for an older, more mature woman.
The good or innocent side of Jeffrey is personified in the character of Sandy. Sandy is often depicted
wearing light colors, with blue eyes and perfectly brushed blonde hair. When Sandy is first introduced
into the film, she enters through utter darkness, stepping out of the shadows and into the light in a
medium shot. Lynch follows this up with a long reverse tracking two shot in which Jeffrey and Sandy
make small talk and innocently flirt with one another. Dorothy s introduction into the film, however, is
quite different. The film first truly introduces the audience and Jeffrey to Dorothy with a subjective
shot from her closet. After breaking into Dorothy s apartment and

How The Brownies Saved Christmas Analysis
How the Brownies Saved Christmas
By
Paul Ray Childers
At the cold North Pole where Santa Claus dwells there live some very, very special little Elves.
They re not the ones that you may know.
These elves are called Brownies, so I am told.
Each one has his own special job and name and treats his work like it was a really fun game.
Yuley is the chief, Brownie number one.
He makes sure that all the jobs get properly done.
Uh oh checks all of their work for mistakes, that any one of the Brownies accidently makes.
Laylow checks beneath Santa s big sleigh, to see that there is nothing that gets in its way.
Early makes sure that the Brownies don t over sleep, so all of their jobs they may get to keep.

Santa and the Brownies went all over the world that Christmas Eve night, at a time when there wasn t
a snowflake in sight!
So if anyone asks you, now you know how Santa gets his sleigh to places that have no snow.
So if you live in a place where snow never comes down, don t let your face get caught with a frown.
The Brownies will help Santa get his sleigh full of presents to you.
That is, if you ve been good. Now, that s true!
And when you leave treats for Santa to put in his mouth, be sure not to leave the Brownies without.
Set out cakes, chips and cookies, and set out a bunch!
Cause they don t have time to have dinner or lunch.
Leave them something to drink, too, like milk, punch or pop.
This will help them to work without having to stop.
It takes much strength to do what they do to help Santa get presents to me and to you!
So, Merry Christmas to all people, and Brownies and Elves, and to all those who think more of others
than they do of themselves.
Merry Christmas, from all the Brownies, who asked me to say,
Let Christmas live in your hearts every day!

Olympe De Gouges
Olympe de Gouges
Marie Gouze was born in Montauban, France, in 1748. In this butcher s daughter s lifetime, she would
grow from a social maverick, to political renovator, to a martyr. She of was the first to emphasize
feminism and the injustice of slavery, mostly through her writing. (Woolfrey) She is an often forgotten
figure of the French Revolution.
After the death of her husband, Marie Gouze took on a new identity in an effort to avoid judgement.
She took her son to Paris with her where she would continue developing her education and diplomatic
knowledge for the next ten years. Once she began to write, she was often condemned for her flawed
French and being a female writer. In this period of time, women were often referred to as objects, and
according to society, their only purpose was to reproduce and serve men. de Gouges made it her
mission to challenge, find fault in, and untie the laces of injustice that her generation had wound
together. However, the leaders during Olympe de Gouges s time had no sympathy for women. (Cook)
As a playwright, de Gouges used her writing to address social issues around her. Along with slavery
and women s rights, she was also outspoken on subjects like marriage, divorce, freedom of speech.

Sikh Marriage

Expect among some westernised subgroups in the larger Indian cities social mixing between the sexes

The emphasis upon family life as that which God has ordained is such that few Sikhs wish to remain
single. The family assists in finding a partner. Suitability should have as its criteria virtuous qualities,
temperament and age. Then, if they have any place, societal status and economic position. A final
factor will be caste consideration. A Jat is likely to marry a Jat, an Arora an Arora, a Ramgarhia a
Ramgarhia, but there are many exceptions. It is most important that a Sikh marries a Sikh. The true
life of discipleship to the teaching of the Gurus can most completely be carried out in the householder

The Life of Saint Anthony
The life of Saint Anthony was vividly pictured in the narration of his life by no other person than St.
Athanasius. In St. Athanasius description of St. Anthony, he explored all areas where St. Anthony was
modeled as a saint. In light of this, the thesis for this essay states that classical genres to which St.
Athanasius modelled the Life of St. Anthony is autobiography/biography, mythology and adventures.
Throughout the description of St. Anthony s life, he conformed himself to these models. To this end,
this essay explores ways in which St. Anthony s life conformed to these models. One of the first ways
St. Anthony s life conformed to St. Athanasius model was his first step into asceticism (Robert 26).
Asceticism was the first major decision St. Anthony took after the death of his parents. The death of
his parents left him with the burden of caring for his sister and taking care of the vast property that
belonged to the family.
However, while on his way to church, he was meditating a bible verse but on stepping into the church,
he was baffled when he heard the Gospel being read instructing whoever wants to serve God to go and
sell of his property and distribute the profits from the sale to the poor. He felt that the verse of the
Gospel was meant for him so he did exactly as he was instructed (Robert 26). After selling off the
property, he distributed the proceeds amongst the poor. St. Anthony went to church again and after

characters, as well as the relationships of their friends Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg), Raj
Koothrappali (Kunnal Nayyer) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco), as well as their wives/girlfriends Bernadette
(Melissa Rauch) and Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik). With excellent writing, the characters

share photos of themselves on Instagram hanging out between scenes, as well as supporting each other

Blossom on the 90s show of the same name for five seasons, Bialik went to college at UCLA, earning
a Bachelor of Science in neuroscience, Hebrew studies and Jewish studies. In 2007, she received a
doctorate in neuroscience from the same institution. Number Thirteen: There Were Two Pilots. When
the first pilot for The Big Bang Theory was brought before test audiences, as well as the creative
heads at CBS, the show flopped. The only redeeming quality was the relationship between Sheldon
and Leonard (Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki, respectively). After shooting another pilot with the
current cast, the show was picked up for 13 episodes. It has now been on for nine seasons. Number

The Breakfast Club Analysis
Don t Skip Breakfast!
The Breakfast Club is a timeless movie centered around the very relevant concept of discovering your
identity and breaking away from stereotypes. It is about a group of 5 defiant high school students who
are all forced to spend their Saturday in detention. The five main characters include Claire (Molly
Ringwald) the princess, Brian (Anthony Michael Hall) the brain, Andrew (Emilio Estevez) the jock,
Allison (Ally Sheedy) the weirdo, and John Bender (Judd Nelson) the criminal. These students have
very different personalities and very little in common or so they think. The five are stuck together
under the oppressive authority of Richard Vernon (Paul Gleason) the Principal, who served as a
common enemy for the students. Their sole task for that Saturday was to write an essay describing
who they are, a question that remained pondered for the duration of the film as The Breakfast Club is
an iconic story of self discovery.
WHAT WORKED The Breakfast Club did an excellent job of capturing the strife of students as they
try and find themselves through their adolescent years. They have all been cast a different stereotype
and at the beginning of the movie it is clear that all of the characters have a fairly decent idea of who
they think everyone is. Every viewer can relate to at least one of the various stereotypes, and I think
your overall enjoyment of the movie will depend on how easily you can identify with one of the
characters. Their stereotypes are

Making Rule Changes For The Safety Of Our Athletes
As Commissioner of the National Quidditch League, I have come to the conclusion to make rule
changes to insure the safety of our athletes. The NQL is one of the country s most popular and highest
revenue leagues. We have a duty to uphold ethical standards to set a good example for our young fans.
In conversations with doctors, players, owners, and some fans, the league office has decided to enact
some new policy changes. The most important policy changes enacted are that all players must now
where helmets, a new concussion protocol, and players who intentionally target opposing players will
be at risk for fines and suspension. Some may feel that the character of the game is being threatened
by these new rule changes. However, the safety of our athletes is much more important. We are
confident that these new changes will further demonstrate why the NQL is one of our country s most
popular leagues. Lastly, as a league we can no longer claim to display integrity if allow the head
injuries to continue.
The league office has taken various factors into account, as we considered enacting rule changes
designed to reduce head injuries. First and foremost, we engaged in dialogue about whether any rule
changes would threaten the sole of the sport. We came to the conclusion that these rule changes would
not damage the sport, and would only legitimize it further. Secondly, we talked officials from other
leagues regarding their changes in sports. Our league has experienced similar

The Relationship Of Child Abuse And Father Daughter
The relationship of child abuse and father daughter incest
Angelica Flores
Washington State University Abstract
Father daughter incest is defined as any sexual act with a family member that is blood related or
closely related. Father daughter incest is the most common type of incest; this is more common than
mother son incest. Research shows that women are more likely to be sexually abused by men because
men are said to be stronger than women. Men can easily abuse women so women feel like they have
no other choice but letting themselves go. Psychotherapy is a way of therapy to help women with
insidious backgrounds. This essay contains different findings researchers have found from different
incest victims. Incest is defined as sexual intercourse or any type of sexual act with a family member
or any person closely related to the child. Incest can also be defined as a relationship with a step
parent/step child even if they are not blood related. The topic of incest is a very controversial subject
and can be seen as a taboo in the society because depending on the cultures, different cultures have
different thoughts on incest. Although incest can be viewed in different ways, incest is still considered
sexual abuse, simply because a child cannot give consent until the age of 18. Incest affects the child
physically, emotionally, and physiologically. Signs of incest/sexual abuse include unexplained injuries,
changes in behavior, or inappropriate sexual behavior to other

Nurses Attitudes Toward Euthanasia
These variables are very important to understanding the population and addressing trends, but do these
results still stand when compared to those who work in the field? Is there proper generalizability for
these variables? The article, The Diverse Influence of Religion and World View on Palliative Care
Nurses Attitudes towards Euthanasia, addresses how a nurse s religion and worldview effect their
mindset in their career. Specifically, the researchers are studying how religious beliefs have an impact
on nurses and if so, what specific factor is the most important in influencing these opinions. To study
this correlation, the researchers gathered information from a previous quantitative study that was
conducted in 2006. This study collected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, another factor could be influencing that data. It is unclear when the data from each article
analyzed was published and it could be misleading trying to compare articles from different years; so,
it is important to understand how these opinions, along with religion, have developed over time and
how they respond to one another. The article, Attitudes towards legalising physician provided
euthanasia in Britain: The role of religion over time, aims to analyze the change in support for
euthanasia over time in comparison to the change in religion and religiosity among the population.
The researchers noted that previous studies have indicated the relationships between religiosity and
denomination with negative attitudes towards physician assisted suicide and euthanasia. To further
hypothesize, the researchers concluded that an individual s opinion on these two topics may also be
swayed by their personal satisfaction with the health care system. To gather data, the researchers used
the British Social Attitudes survey. In this study, they used the years 1983, 1984, 1989, 1994, 2005,
and 2012 for their analysis due to the availability of relevant questions. A variety of question types
were chosen to gauge certain variables, such as nominal for attitudes toward physician assisted and
ordinal for religion, which were separated into the categories: no

this a trillion times harder. I can t even hate the dude who s tapping the chick I want. No revenge
fantasies to be had, because I don t hate Garrett, not in the slightest. A door creaks open and footsteps

research about Car2go, which is a unique model using components of car rental and car sharing. It
creates enhanced flexible transportation possibilities for a comparable low price in Ulm in Aachen and
concerning the future in Hamburg as well. Our project work should include a feasibility study if the
business model of car2go can be adapted to the city of Worms. Concerning our teamwork we needed
to figure out which Phases and work packages were related to our project. The next steps had to be

intelligence (AI) is one of the most breath taking topics in science and technology fields today. While
the time frame of its real emergence has long been the focus of debates, the moral concern of such a

  • 2. Responsibility Of Raising A Child Responsibility Of Raising A Child A seven year old child yells at her teacher because he has not chosen her to answer a question. The child then continues to throw herself on the ground screaming and kicking over the teacher s unfair ways. Who has raised this child to act in such ways? What makes it okay for a child to yell at an elder? This behavior is heavily frowned upon in society, but how does one stop this behavior early? As a child growing up you don t think about where your education of right and wrong comes from but as a parent, one would wonder heavily on the subject. Parents most often take control on their own accord without letting the community have any say in the way they raise their own child. Some parents, however, may say that everyone in the community, including teachers, coaches, and maybe members of the church, must have his/her own part in the child s growing process. This poses the question of who exactly should be responsible of a child s knowledge of appropriate behavior. When in reality, the community as a whole are responsible for teaching a child appropriate behavior. Parents find it hard to say No to their children and are permissive resulting in a spoiled child who is in control of the parent rather than vice versa. According to Levine, Madeline. Raising Successful Children. The New York Times. The New York Times, 4 Aug. 2012. Web. 2016., it is called being a helicopter parent . Levine says, The happiest, most successful ... • 3. John Stuart Mill on Individual Liberty Essay John Stuart Mill on Individual Liberty Definition of Individual liberty In his work On Liberty, Mill placed much emphasis on individual liberty and its vital role in political society. To Mill, this phrase may be defined as the liberty of the individual to be the final judge over his actions; to decide what is right and wrong and to act upon that standard. On a secondary level, it also implies one s freedom to pursue one s own individuality. Mill believed in a society in which each individual leads his own distinctive life according to his own unique talents; unfettered by regulations upon thought, opinion, actions etc. However, Mill asserts an important caveat; that which he calls `the very simple principle . He writes, `That ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Value of Individual Liberty Indeed, Mill asserted that the cultivation of one s individuality should be the goal of human existence. He wrote On Liberty as an argument against repressive laws which inhibit voluntary association and suppress original ideas and ways of thinking, in a bid to protect the freedom of the individual from stifling social conventions, oppressive legal controls and censorship. What is the value of individual liberty that calls for it to be defended so fervently by Mill? Individual Liberty and Truth Firstly, Mill believes that individual liberty is instrumental in the attainment of truth. No one can claim an infallibility of knowledge or a definite truth. Falsehoods are often sprinkled with specks of truth; and truth may exists as half truths held by different people, and it is only through controversy that the truth in the parts can be unified into a larger canvas of the ultimate truth. If one s actions were to be censored completely, society would lose those specks of truth amongst the falsehoods, which would be disadvantageous to society. Furthermore, truth is very often not derived from the masses, but from the ideas of a select few. If these people are silenced by repressive laws or mass opinion, society will be deprived of a chance to find out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ergonomics can be further defined as the design of the workplace, equipment, machine, tool, product, environment, and system, taking into consideration human s physical, physiological, biomechanical, and psychological capabilities. Ergonomic design is the application of this body of knowledge to the design of tools, machines, systems, tasks, jobs, and environments for safe, comfortable and effective human use. The term ergonomics is derived from the Greek word ergos meaning work and nomos meaning natural laws of or study of. In the United States, the term human factors engineering is often used. An ergonomists can also assess existing products and services, showing where they fail to ‘fit the user (in every sense of the word) and suggesting how this fit may be improved. Ergonomists have helped many businesses improve working conditions and employee health issues related to computer and office work. In many cases, most employers are responsible for any health issues that may arise from their employees due to work hazards. Work hazards may be caused by many different factors in the environment. In the average computer workstation, employees are prone to over a dozen hazards. There exist two factors that can prevent this: forming good work habits and ergonomically designed computer workstations. These work hazards can cause several different injuries such as, Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), Cumulative Trauma Disorder (CTD), and Repetitive Motion Disorder (RMD). They are described as painful conditions of the hands, arms, neck, and back that develop over days, weeks or years. Epidemiological research has determined that if these biomechanical conditions are present, the incidence of work related injuries increase. These conditions are therefore known as risk factors for musculoskeletal injury. Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI) takes place from the repeated physical movements of certain body parts which result in damage to tendons, nerves, muscles, and other soft body ... • 5. Death In A. E. Houseman s To An Athlete Dying Young Death is an unavoidable element of the world in which we live. The rich and the poor, the strong and the weak, the brave and the cowardly all must face the end of existence one day. People in this world often choose to ignore this looming threat and live their lives as if this terminus does not exist. One does not fall into this trend category: A. E. Houseman. As said by one observer There are two themes in Houseman: man s morality...and man s rebellion against his lot. (Conolly 49). Houseman s poem To An Athlete Dying Young is no exception. Here he delves into the dreaded and complex subject of early death (Ruby ed. 228, 230). In the poem To an Athlete Dying Young from A Shropshire Lad by A.E. Housman one can see the choices in his style, which are used to cover both sides of the central theme of death, and the author s use of symbolism as a device. To An Athlete Dying Young has multiple noticeable features in its style. The poem is written in the form of a narrative poem, or lyric ballad, in which a story is told. This form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this passage Houseman mentions And early though the laurel grows, It withers quicker than the rose (Houseman 32). For this reason the laurel is symbolic of accomplishment, fame, and honor. This symbol ties into another meaning of the poem. As the critic Bruce Meyers explained The difference between the crowning of garlands is the irony at the heart of the poem. The hero s crown... that the town pays the athlete on his victory, withers away like the floral headgear of a young girl. As he concludes, The message is that death is the final victor. (Meyers 236). The laurel is representative of our short lives and they wither quickly like the athlete. With each season the flowers first bloom, then flourish, and finally dry up; life does not remain for long (Ruby ed. 233, 235). Here the poem offers another perspective where death is the victor over the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Historical Roots Of Humanism And Modern Psychology Essay Historical Roots of Humanism and Modern Psychology Psychology is by nature dynamic. This can be attributed to the aspect that it directly relates and endeavours to explain humanity and human beings are the most dynamic of all the things that exist on earth. In fact, they are the genesis of the changes and diversities experienced in different areas of life. Therefore, anything that directly relates to human beings cannot evade dynamism. In the context of humanism and modern psychology, changes have been witnessed in these fields of psychology. Humanism is a psychological approach that explains, holistically, the individual uniqueness of each individual. It mostly emphasizes on studying the whole being of a human being. It is a psychological approach that analyzes the uniqueness of an individual by looking into the way such an individual perceives himself. Two components are outstanding regarding this approach that it is based on self concept and believes a human being s behaviour is highly integrated with the inner feelings. Its existence is based on the limitations of observed in the psychology of behaviourists and psychodynamics. In fact, humanism is the basis for modern psychology. • 7. The Ban Of The Tobacco Advertising Government involvement is often a subject of controversy and raises questions on when it should and shouldn t be involved. There can always be a case made either way based on personal viewpoint and what issue is being discussed; this is no different when looking at the Indian Government s deliberation over tobacco marketing and the usage of tobacco impacting their economy and population. The Government of India proposed bans on tobacco advertising leading to arguments for and against, it is however important to analyze both sides those in favor an those against, and any conflicts of interest that may be involved. Taking a closer look at those in favor of the tobacco advertising bans there are several factors to be considered. The Government of India wasn t the first country to deliberate over such a decision, but rather was following in the footsteps of countries like France, Finland, and Norway all of whom had already chosen to enact advertising bans on tobacco. One of the first arguments to be made in favor of the advertising bans was that the government had the right to step in and protect the overall health of its citizens citing examples like cocaine, a drug banned the world over . In 1981 in Belgium then 1991 in France court rulings were made declaring that bans on tobacco advertising were in fact not unconstitutional, as it was based on the need to protect public health, and did not curtail the freedom of trade . Questions were then brought up regarding what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Impact Of Globalization In South Africa Many different contexts group together to make up the term globalization such as: technology, trade, offshoring, outsourcing integration, migration, transportation, and environmental pollution. In plain terms, globalization can be described as a process that embraces economic and cultural transmissions between countries. This process is intended to improve the function of economic activities worldwide. The movement also supports the idea of internationalism. Influencing a nation to adopt new political views and educational values can be a potentially positive way to help a struggling nation develop. However, economic improvement in this situation is not always the case. Research provides an irregular pattern concerning economic development. Focusing in on the impact of globalization in South Africa, both positives and negatives have played a part in this country s struggle to compete with the rest of the world. INTRODUCTION Historically, the South African economy has been largely unstable mostly due to political issues. Although, considering its counterparts, South Africa shows the most promise for economic development and growth (Jordaan, 2010 pg.5). In 1990 South Africa entered the global market after overcoming major political issues such as apartheid. Many economists agree that the changes the South African government has made to be able to compete globally, are for the better (Wessel, 2007). In the article CAPITAL: Globalization Brings South ... I get to go to San Diego, California. Wow. I had just finished zipping my suitcase when I heard the car horn. The Jacks are here! I smiled widely already getting butterflies about everything and ran down with my stuff. It was a struggle, but never stop an ambitious girl who is about to fly to San Diego. I opened my front door and motioned for one of them to get out of the car and come help with my bags. I only had one suitcase but it was heavy. I grabbed my carry on and jogged to the car as Johnson grabbed my suitcase. I made sure that my phone and laptop were fully charged once we were on our way. I reached into my bag and looked for my books making sure I had brought them. What else am I supposed to do on the plane? San Diego is going to be sweet! We re meeting the guys up at the beach after we get there, Johnson exclaimed and pumped his fist. I giggled at his personality and nodded. I ve always wanted to go to the beach. I m so excited guys, you have no idea! I shook my hands, a little habit I do since I was little. My mom used to tell me to shake off all the nerves, so I d shake my hands, I m so excited for the beach. The sun, the sand, the water, the bikinis, and the hot guys. Agh! • 10. Ntroduction.Recently, The Student Run Newspaper Published ntroduction Recently, the student run newspaper published their daily edition with many hasty stories about students, staff, and faculty. The April Fools edition was meant to be a comedic spoof on campus activities, however, this year it was not so. The students wrote about the Renaissance club who attacked a group of Chinese students, a soccer coach who was arrested for domestic violence and a faculty member who was a militant member of a secret society. None of the stories are true. Many of the key actors are showing their power through disgruntled messages. It seems as though the newspaper has lost its values over the years and may need to be connected with the student government. There are many ways to resolve the issue including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is monetarily consuming. Departments who are feeling the affect of the budget reductions may feel bitter towards the newspaper. The other departments have needs that they feel are more important, for example, the graduate student department. They are having to cut funds to their graduate students and yet the newspaper is fully operational. This is also a display of conflicting resources. The university has a diminishing budget. Many groups on campus have been affected by this and are claiming whatever power they have left to keep their remaining budget. If one group makes a mistake and the other has a chance to claim some of their budget, they surely will. This changes the dynamic that departments have with each other. The office of Residential Life and the Graduate School have both expressed their concern for their international student s safety. This is a problem for our university reputation. If news spreads about the uncomfort students feel, even in response to a fake article, it could threaten our potential student s outlook on our university. The two departments are reinforcing the idea because they have not calmed the fire. Instead of going directly to the source of the articles, they have chosen to turn to a higher department to explain their grievances which creates a conflict between the newspaper and the other two departments. Lastly, the NCAA has expressed their distaste in regards to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. How Sport Has Changed My Life Introduction: Fùtbol or soccer, it doesn t matter the way you say it, although what it has done for us as humans is very significant. For me soccer is everything I play it, watch it, and talk about it, the sport has led my life since I first gained interest towards it in grade four. There must be a reason why it the most watched sport in the world, it brings everyone in the world together no matter what race, nationality, or gender. Ever since grade six I have been trying to encourage soccer into my projects for school, I haven t had a chance of properly incorporating my true passion. This is until now, the first time I ever heard of the personal project was the first time I came to Carson Graham. Our school in grade seven brought us to this massive school in which we had no clue about why we were actually there. The first presentation I saw was someone who built a robot that could follow lights for direction. The thought that I had to do this project in grade ten scared me, I had no clue what I really wanted to do. This was until I started thinking about it more and one thought came into my mind, that was to create Goal Line Technology. This form of technology was quite new at the time, this was because they just announced that they were going to start using it in one of the top five leagues in Europe, the first league to incorporate it was the Barclay s Premier League. My project goal was to create a fully working demo of Goal Line Technology. At first I was scared that I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. We re All Becoming Poor, But We Can Do Something Aishwarya Srinivas Ms. Lim English ENG3U1 05 October 13, 2015 We re all becoming poor, but we can do something Did you know that about 4.8 million people in Canada live in poverty? It is not just the countries in the East who you think are poor; many countries in Europe and North America have individuals who live in poverty because of various factors affecting them. These may include low wages, fewer benefits, housing shortage and of course, their lifestyle or way of living. Poverty can also be tied to the government of that city or country and certain rules or laws set by the government could affect these people. Although we are living in an era where we are making many technological advances, poverty is still increasing. Poverty is increasing again because of inequality, poor decisions made by some of political leaders, and by the members of our own communities. To understand how worse the situation of poverty has become in Canada, we have to look at statistics that show how poverty has increased over the years. Poverty has been increasing as residents struggle to put food on their tables. For example, in Canada, child poverty has increased to from 12.8% to 15.1% from the mid 1990s, ( Canada Falling behind on Poverty, Inequality, says Report. 1) and 15% of children in Canada currently live under poverty because they have less access to necessities. It is not surprising that UNICEF has rated Canada 17th out of the 29 wealthy countries in the world. ( Canada Falling behind ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. In The Middle Of The 19Th Century, Congo Square Became In the middle of the 19th century, Congo Square became a center of musical expression. On these Sunday afternoons, a new form of music was born. Pioneered by those on the bottom of a society full of slavery and segregation, the origin of jazz was less a singular event than an evolving movement. None of those pioneers, however, could have anticipated the future of their developing art form. None could have foreseen that their informal rhythmic gatherings would eventually lead to nationally recognized big bands with more than 20 musicians and celebrity band leaders. The trajectory of jazz history is complex and rich, flowing from style to style and from region to region. Each step along the way from the early brass bands to the bebop bands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Largely a remnant of military bands from the civil war, these provincial brass bands maintained a public presence with parades, parties, celebrations, and funerals. Fusing traditional marches with the developing ragtime styles and the cultural celebratory music of Congo Square, these bands started infusing their music with blues notes, syncopated rhythms, and jazz like phrasing to get their audiences dancing. The instrumentation of these brass bands emphasized brass instruments, polyphonic musical style with a carrying tone, sectional playing within the band; many of these characteristics translated into early jazz forms. Though the label suggests a band comprising solely brass musicians, early Louisiana bands also included clarinet and saxophone. In the smaller bands used for indoor performances, a smaller string band was used, composed of cornet, violin, guitar, bass, and piano. These existing ensembles influenced the early jazz bands in New Orleans. Buddy Bolden s band is widely considered the first true jazz band in New Orleans; according to a rare photograph from 1905, featured a pair of clarinets, cornet, valve trombone, guitar, and bass. Though the earliest bands were never recorded, jazz historians such as William Schafer have speculated about the influence of the brass band roots on the development of jazz style: black New Orleans brass band nurtured a characteristic outdoor playing style with lots of ... • 15. Global Migration From 1700 To 1900 CE, The World Global Migrations CCOT Between 1700 CE and 1900 CE, the world saw radical growth and change. New inventions, technologies and innovations led to major shifts in power and new societies emerged. A common theme between these two dates is the migration of peoples for a variety of reasons. Some left their homelands due to push factors, like famine, war and disease. Some left due to pull factors, like economic prosperity, religious tolerance and freedom. From 1700 CE to 1900 CE, global migration experienced a continuity in long distance migration to the Americas as a result of a need for labor. Although there is a continuity, there are major changes in the push and pull factors for migration such as like the Irish Potato Famine and the migration of immigrants into Australia due to the promise of economic prosperity. The migration of people into the Americas was a continuity between 1700 CE and 1900 CE. In the 1700s, predominantly European settlers migrated to the Americas in search of economic gain. Many found this in the form of the plantation system. The need for labor on these plantations led to the large scale migration of slaves. Slaves were essential to the economy of the Americas and even to the parent countries in Europe as they were a cheap, reliable source of labor. These slaves were part of a larger mercantilist system called the Atlantic Slave Trade. The slave trade peaked in the 1700s with millions of African slaves being forced to migrate into the Americas. This stigma seems like it should be a compliment to hard work, but it permeates their lives far beyond the surface level. These students set incredibly high standards for themselves, and are conditioned to accept nothing short of perfection in the work that they do. The overwhelming stress of living up to the highest standards causes students to suffer psychological, emotional, and academic costs, and they begin to measure their self worth by quantitative achievement; poor performance is indicative of inferiority. These attitudes are ingrained during developmental years and persist in later years. The model minority creates an illusion of perfect Asian American students who feel emotionally isolated and hopeless because their needs become neglected and ignored. In a healthy body, when the glucose level gets too high, special cells in the pancreas called the beta cells release Insulin. Insulin is a hormone which causes cells to take in the glucose and use it as energy or store it as fat. Diabetes, a lifelong metabolism disorder causes high blood sugar levels. There are three major types of Diabetes 1. Type 1 diabetes It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and kills the beta cells in pancreas resulting in no or very little production of insulin in body. As a result, glucose builds up in the blood instead of being used as energy. Type 1 diabetes generally develops in childhood or adolescence but can also develop in adulthood. Type 1 diabetes has to be always treated with Insulin. 2. Before the mid 1960s, music still mirrored the sound, stylistic traits and views of the prior decade. Many of the popular records were by artists who had found mainstream success in the 1950s, such as Ray Charles, Elvis Presley and Bill Haley his Comets. From the mid 1960s onwards, a number of social influences changed what popular music was and introduced us to the miscellany that even today we experience with music. The assassination of President Kennedy (1963), the intensification of the Vietnam War (1965 1973) and the advancement of the Civil Rights Movement (1963) all had a significant impact on the disposition of American culture and the music began to reflect that. (Holz, 2010) One of the artists that erupted at this pivotal time was James Brown. Rather than the backbeat that characterised African American music, James Brown developed his signature groove that accentuated the downbeat. Heavy emphasis was put on the first beat and in some cases the third beat of every measure to form his characteristic sound. We see death take place in Lord of the Flies and Beowulf. Both stories have appalling and perplexing events that take place throughout the novel. Many of the events that take place result in death. While these stories revolve around death, Piggy and Simon s death, in Lord of the Flies, were much more influential to the other characters, plot, and the overall theme than Beowulf s death. Death can be influential to any story by the way it impacts a character. One character in Beowulf who was affected by death was Wiglaf. Our glorious king! By almighty God, I d rather burn myself than see Flames swirling around my lord (Unknown 725 727) Wiglaf broke down emotionally at the sight of Beowulf s death. This shows Wiglaf s loyalty to Beowulf, and how he truly cared about Beowulf s well being. Just like Beowulf had Wiglaf, Simon and Piggy had Ralph on their side. Ralph was emotionally distressed after Simon s death specifically because of how it happened. Ralph was never able to fully let it go; that s one reason why he breaks down in front of the soldier at the end of the novel. After Piggy and the conch were destroyed, Ralph, with no hope left, was worried he would be next and actually had to run away from the rest of the boys on the island. The boys left on the island could care less about the fact that those two boys were killed and that blood was on their hands. Those boys were even excited about the possibility of killing Ralph. This happens to be a way more influential and important fact to know about the characters in Lord of the Flies because they started to enjoy death. The boys would chant and sing songs about slitting the pig s throat as if it were a game. In contrast, Wiglaf was very distraught over the death of his king. After Beowulf s death the soldiers set up a tower to overlook a creek and they buried jewels in his honor. Typically, Beowulf was only treated one way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even more intriguing than merely the subconscious is the notion of a darker, more repressed side that many individuals refuse to acknowledge exists within them. In David Lynch s film Blue Velvet, the director attempts to explore the psyche of a young man named Jeffrey Beaumont, most notably the clash between his darker side and good side for the first time in his life. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lynch chooses to use such stark contrast in an effort to establish not only the differences in one s perception, but of the psyche as well. The opening sequence is used by Lynch as a metaphor for Jeffrey s state of mind throughout the entire film, as Jeffrey realizes he has a dark side yet is trying (most of the time) to suppress it. The town of Lumberton, like Jeffrey, is an idealized version of what America and Americans should be like and yet, much like Jeffrey s mind, it is full of dark secrets and contradictions. One aspect of Jeffrey s psyche being explored is the notion of his battle between innocent love for a young girl and the animalistic lust he possesses for an older, more mature woman. The good or innocent side of Jeffrey is personified in the character of Sandy. Sandy is often depicted wearing light colors, with blue eyes and perfectly brushed blonde hair. When Sandy is first introduced into the film, she enters through utter darkness, stepping out of the shadows and into the light in a medium shot. Lynch follows this up with a long reverse tracking two shot in which Jeffrey and Sandy make small talk and innocently flirt with one another. There Are No Children Here Essay examples Alex Kotlowitz s book, There are No Children Here, is a story about two boys, Pharaoh and Lafeyette Rivers growing in the late 1980 s in Henry Horner, a housing project in Chicago. The boys try to retain their youth while they see constant gang violence, death of close friends, their brother in jail and their dad struggling with a drug addiction. In Horner, there are two gangs that claim it as their turf, and the Rivers family is constantly ducking from shots of gunfire there. The death of his parents left him with the burden of caring for his sister and taking care of the vast property that belonged to the family. However, while on his way to church, he was meditating a bible verse but on stepping into the church, he was baffled when he heard the Gospel being read instructing whoever wants to serve God to go and sell of his property and distribute the profits from the sale to the poor. The Breakfast Club is a timeless movie centered around the very relevant concept of discovering your identity and breaking away from stereotypes. It is about a group of 5 defiant high school students who are all forced to spend their Saturday in detention. The five main characters include Claire (Molly Ringwald) the princess, Brian (Anthony Michael Hall) the brain, Andrew (Emilio Estevez) the jock, Allison (Ally Sheedy) the weirdo, and John Bender (Judd Nelson) the criminal. These students have very different personalities and very little in common or so they think. The five are stuck together under the oppressive authority of Richard Vernon (Paul Gleason) the Principal, who served as a common enemy for the students. Their sole task for that Saturday was to write an essay describing who they are, a question that remained pondered for the duration of the film as The Breakfast Club is an iconic story of self discovery. WHAT WORKED The Breakfast Club did an excellent job of capturing the strife of students as they try and find themselves through their adolescent years. They have all been cast a different stereotype and at the beginning of the movie it is clear that all of the characters have a fairly decent idea of who they think everyone is. Father daughter incest is the most common type of incest; this is more common than mother son incest. Research shows that women are more likely to be sexually abused by men because men are said to be stronger than women. Men can easily abuse women so women feel like they have no other choice but letting themselves go. Psychotherapy is a way of therapy to help women with insidious backgrounds. This essay contains different findings researchers have found from different incest victims. Incest is defined as sexual intercourse or any type of sexual act with a family member or any person closely related to the child. Incest can also be defined as a relationship with a step parent/step child even if they are not blood related. The topic of incest is a very controversial subject and can be seen as a taboo in the society because depending on the cultures, different cultures have different thoughts on incest. However, another factor could be influencing that data. It is unclear when the data from each article analyzed was published and it could be misleading trying to compare articles from different years; so, it is important to understand how these opinions, along with religion, have developed over time and how they respond to one another. The article, Attitudes towards legalising physician provided euthanasia in Britain: The role of religion over time, aims to analyze the change in support for euthanasia over time in comparison to the change in religion and religiosity among the population. The researchers noted that previous studies have indicated the relationships between religiosity and denomination with negative attitudes towards physician assisted suicide and euthanasia. To further hypothesize, the researchers concluded that an individual s opinion on these two topics may also be swayed by their personal satisfaction with the health care system. To gather data, the researchers used the British Social Attitudes survey.
