Pandora Compare And Contrast Essay
Another important requirement for the process of natural selection among species is having a
variety of traits. The variation of traits to be selected upon by the environment allows for the
changing of allele frequencies among the generations of the population. One of the main sources for
genetic variation is sexual reproduction, which occurred between members of the Na vi and
members of the Thanator species. Sexual reproduction among members of a species can lead to
genetic mutations in the DNA, which can attribute to the variability of genes. One obvious variable
trait among the hominid species of Pandora is their height. The males were typically seen to be
taller in height than the females, but with each member having a different height the trait can vary
among offspring. If the environment demands for taller offspring then it will naturally select for
that trait among individuals,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The species throughout Pandora also seem to have homologous characteristics among each other. A
homologous structure is essentially an anatomical similarity between organisms of different
species that are representative of variations on a structural basis and are derived from a common
ancestor. Different homologous structures are present depending on the species and their kingdom,
for example mammals tend to have pelvic bones and fish do not. Homology Between the
Hominids and Various Species on Pandora Much homology exists between the hominid species of
Pandora and the other species, such as the fact that the hominids have four fingers and toes on each
hand and foot, and the thanator species has four finger like claws on each foot. This even number
of phalanges between both species must be beneficial to both of them in some way, enough so that
it has become a heritable trait that was chosen by the environment through the process of natural

Waiting For Superman Essay
In Waiting for Superman a film produced by a man named David Guggenheim addresses the issues
that arise in the public school system, and how hard it is for kids to get a good education in the
U.S. As Guggenheim quotes no matter who we are, our what neighborhood we grew up in wanting
to believe in our schools, we take a leap of faith. Waiting for Superman effectively identifies failing
schools, incompetent teachers, and administrative constraints as the main issues under mining
educationin the U.S. today. First, Guggenheim reached his audience through its focus on the
stories of five children and their families as they apply to their neighborhoods local charter
schools. Each child s parent places them in the charter schools lottery drawing to earn a place in
the school. A lottery is an equal drawing that most charter schools do to make it fair for each child.

If the question mark does not succeed in becoming the market leader, then after perhaps years of
cash consumption it will degenerate into a dog when the market growth declines. Question marks
must be analyzed carefully in order to determine whether they are worth the investment required to
grow market share.
Stars are units with a high market share in a fast growing industry (High Market Share / High
Market Growth). The hope is that stars become the next cash cows. Sustaining the business unit s
market leadership may require extra cash, but this is worthwhile if that s what it takes for the unit
to remain a leader. When growth slows, if they have been able to maintain their category
leadership stars become cash cows, else they become dogs due to low relative market share.
As a particular industry matures and its growth slows, all business units become either cash cows or
dogs. The natural cycle for most business units is that they start as question marks, then turn into
stars. Eventually the market stops growing thus the business unit becomes a cash cow. At the end of
the cycle the cash cow turns into a dog.
The overall goal of this ranking was to help corporate analysts decide which of their business units
to fund, and how much; and which units to sell. Managers were supposed to gain perspective from
this analysis that allowed them to plan with confidence to use money generated by the cash cows to
fund the stars and, possibly, the question marks. As the

Jonathan Swift s Literary Canon Of Politically And...
Thesis Statement: Jonathan Swift s literary canon of politically and comically prolific satires,
fantasies, and allegories was seasoned with his exposure to the follies of the economic, religious
and governing institutions of the British Empire, and thus, he sought to lampoon and caricature
the current events and social, cultural, religious, and political trends that were so omnipotent
during his lifetime. Swift s exposure to the monarchical mentality and rife factional conflicts
pervading the political sector of England influenced a number of his literary works. A. In 1710,
Swift, disgusted with their alliance with the Dissenters, withdrew from the Whigs, aligned himself
with the Tories, and took up the position of editor of the Tory newspaper The Examiner (Cody).
But Swift did not thereby renounce his essentially Whiggish convictions regarding the nature of
government. The old Tory theory of the divine right of kings had no claim upon him. The
ultimate power, he insisted, derived from the people as a whole and, in the English constitution,
had come to be exercised jointly by king, lords, and commons (Quintana). Through his many
articles and pamphlets that were written in defense of Tory policies, Swift became one of the
most effective spokespersons of any British administration. With the death of Queen Anne in
August 1714 and the accession of George I, the Tories were a ruined party, and Swift s career in
England was at an end. When Swift was writing Gulliver s

Battle Of The Potomac Thesis
The Army of the Potomac Famous members and history of the regiment The Army of the
Potomac was created in 1861. It was the first corps legalized in the U.S. during the beginning of
the Civil War. The center of the Army of the Potomac was called the Army of Northeast Virginia,
commanded by Brig.Gen. Irvin Mcdowell. They fought the Battle of Bull Run under Mcdowell
and lost. Soon after the loss, the Union Army had a change of plans for the leadership of the Army
of the Potomac. They appointed Major General George B. McClellan, who had plans to
dramatically change the makeup of the army. Mclellan s original plans were to lead the Division of
the Potomac, but the plans changed on July 26, 1861 when the Department of Shenandoah,

As the Army of the Potomac held off the Confederates from attempting to make their way
through the North, it was Mclellan s last major battle while he was the commander of the Army
of the Potomac. On November 9th, 1862, the Union decided to appoint Major General Ambrose
Burnside. He was not in command for long because he didn t shine in his opportunity against the
Confederates in the Battle of Fredericksburg. After a crushing defeat at the battle of
Fredericksburg, the Union made a quick change of command by appointing Major General
Joseph Hooker. They thought he could get the Union to get back on a roll, but they thought
wrong. Against General Robert E. Lee, the Army of the Potomac didn t fare so well. With
another wrong choice of a strong commander who could not lead them to victory, they hand
picked Major General George G. Meade. He was picked only days before the most important
battle in the Civil War at Gettysburg. While the Army of the Potomac was holding off the final
push of the confederates into the North, Meade got his first victory under his belt as the
Commander of the Army of the Potomac at Gettysburg. With this victory, the Union knew that
Meade had the skills required to lead the Army of the Potomac. Meade and his army cruised to
victory while handing the Confederates losses left and right. He later witnessed the surrender of
Robert E Lee and his Confederate Army at Appomattox

Furniture design is particularly dependent on trends....
Furniture design is particularly dependent on trends. During a period of time, the design or general
appearances of furniture design changes over the course of history which was influenced by
architectural style. Therefore, there are many different types of furniture design available in the
market nowadays including wall kitchen cabinets. Most wall cabinets are simply for storage but
nowadays, people require durable, sturdy, long lasting yet affordable furniture with improved
functionality.
At present, in order to have the above mentioned qualities dictated by changing customer demand it

French cleat is made from two piece of dimensional lumber that ripped to a specific angle where
each of it will be attached to the wall and cabinet. It can be cut to specific measurement and fit
securely in any kitchen cabinet with the greatest of ease because the cabinet can be designed with
varying design with movable features. Sancaktar et al. (2003) explained that the higher the strength
of joints is influenced by the taper angle at the end of lap zone.
The French cleats which are almost like scarf joint types of bonded joints exhibited excellent static
performance particularly under compression loading and cyclic fatigue characteristics. The
performance demonstrated the effectiveness of this configuration from a perspective design
(Broughton et al., 1999). However, designing an optimum French cleat using engineered wood
material is complex due to the physical properties and fiber direction that might influence the joint
performance.
LVL is an engineered woodproduct and has been developed as an alternative to solid wood.
According to Colak et al. (2004), due to the manufacturing process in the making of LVL, this
material produced a higher strength product and is available in unlimited length and sizes. In any
kitchen cabinet construction, LVL could be used advantageously in several area to match the
quality needed (Eckelman, 1993).

ECT as an Effective Treatment for Self Harm
ECT as an Effective Treatment for Self Harm in Extreme Cases of Mentally Unstable Patients who
Cannot Give Informed Consent There is much controversy in regards to how far a practitioner
should go to protect a patient s well being, whilst trying to adhere to their rights and consent of
treatment methods (Feldman, 1990, p. 261). The most ethical solution is to only resort to extreme
methods of treatments if the patient is clearly seen as not being mentally stable enough to provide
the right judgement call, and if they are in a life threatening situation in which they could
potentially harm themselves or others. In cases where patients are not mentally stable enough to
give their consent, their family, guardians, partners, or an authorized... Show more content on

Research by Kellner et al. has also shown how ETC can be effective for behavioural disorders,
but in this case, for severe depression. Kellner defends this treatment explaining that many
controversies have arose regarding ECT because of misrepresentations of it in the media and
lack of knowledge of the logistics of its mechanisms. Patient, Ms. A. , a 72 year old woman
became seriously depressed and was not responding to any psychotherapy or drugs pertaining to
clinical depression. She was barely able to function properly, and after a course of eight ECT
sessions of unilateral ultrabrief pulse treatments , her score on the Hamilton Depression Rating
scale, ranked out of 24, went from 38 to 6. She was soon able to continue her usual daily activities
(Kellner, 2012, p. 1 2). Miss. A s results from ETC showed that this method of treatment greatly
improved her previously severe depression. Depression can lead to attempts at suicide as well as self
harming ones self, so extreme punitive treatments are better to pursue than allowing the chance of
a patient taking ones own life.(Feldman 1990, p. 263). It is emphasized that consent of patients
that are legally incompetent for medical decision making should have a legal guardian to decide
for them (Kellner 2012, p. 5). Thus, ETC has shown to be

Transient Global Amnesia
Transient Global Amnesia and Sleep
This paper will discuss whether Transient Global Amnesia (TGA) is or is not induced by our
sleep patterns and quality of sleep. Per the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine (JCSM), Transient
Global Amnesia (TGA) is defined as a temporary memory loss characterized by an abrupt onset of
anterograde (AGA) and retrograde amnesia (RA). In other words, TGA occurs when there is a
sudden occurrence of both Anterograde amnesia and retrograde amnesia at the same time. As
defined by the JCSM, anterograde amnesia is the acute inability to retain new information and
retrograde amnesia is the significant reduction in the ability to recall past events. TGA has been
known to last up to twenty four hours. During the acute ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But can consolidation of memories be affected in the same way? In studies that concentrated on
how Benzodiazepines (a substance used as a sleep aid and an anti anxiety medicine) affected the
quality of sleep and memory of events that happen during interrupted sleep periods. Subjects fell
back asleep rather quickly, but come morning, had much trouble recalling the tasks they were
given to complete earlier in the night. In studies that looked at memory between wake and sleep,
researchers presented undergraduate students a verbal word as they drifted off into sleep. But
of course, to ensure sleepiness the students were limited to two hours of sleep the night prior to
the experiment. Researchers used an electroencephalograph (EEG), which is a tool to determine
one s position in the wake to sleep cycle. Using the EEG researchers determined when their
subjects were asleep then either allowed them short periods of sleep or long periods before
waking them. Once their subjects were woken up, they tested their memory through recognition.
Results showed that the subjects who experienced short periods of sleep did, in fact, the
memory test. In contrast, the subjects that could sleep for a longer period, in this case, ten
minutes, had a greater difficulty remembering the word relayed to them in the five minutes prior
to them falling asleep. These results were interpreted as an interruption of the transfer of the
memory from short term to long term storage. Thus, the memory was in a sense erased and was
unavailable to be recalled. This difficulty is an example of RA, as has been defined, and as an
example of RA being induced by interruptions in the quality of sleep. However, if subjects were
aroused in any way as they drifted off to sleep and were read their words, then it could be that
AGA has been induced. What this fails to conclude however is if both

What Is Machiavelli Stressed In The Prince
Outside people relations, Vlad embodied one of the most crucial principle Machiavelli stressed in
The Prince, Principle 10 How the Strength of All States Should be Measured. Machiavelli believes
that for a prince to maintain his control over the state in times of war, he must be ready to fight for
his people. Vlad went beyond that by succeeding his predecessors through weaponizing Wallachia
for battle and personally leading the charge against neighboring states. His first hurdle was his
confrontation with Hungary where he tried to maintain a fragile peace, skillfully balancing the
interests of the Hungarian and the Ottoman Empire in Wallachia. However...conflict broke out

His mettle against the Hungarian proved fruitful as he secured his nation s independence and

confrontation with the Turks; per usual, he took a radical stance in the Machiavellian principle
against his enemy by psychological warfare... [the Sultan]...saw his men impaled...the
Sultan...kept saying that he could not conquer the country of a man who could do such terrible
and unnatural things, and put his power and his subjects to such use (Miller). Ironically, the
Sultan s claim proved to be Vlad s strength because he relied on his military ingenuity to scare his
opponents from touching Wallachia. His front against the Turks established to his people his
unwavering dedication to their liberty and safety. The central concern of Vlad s actions was that
in terms of pure Machiavelli, Vlad had no evidence of following the footsteps of prior great kings
and did everything himself. Why this is an issue is because Vlad is going to every battle blind and

Proteins are very important to our lives because they carry out a multitude of tasks in our body.
Proteins are linear chains of amino acids that adopt unique three dimensional structures and are

Abercrombie and Fitch Case Study
Abercrombie and Fitch Case Analysis

Abstract Abercrombie and Fitch (A amp;F) is a typical mall front store. They have been in the
business for a century and are not going anywhere. A amp;F sees their fair share of mock items
and lawsuits. However, through it all, A amp;F has made it to be successful, overcome threats, and
open similar chains to target a wider range age market.
Introduction Abercrombie amp; Fitch was founded in 1892 as a unique clothing store. Over the
century in business they have made a distinct target for young adults. The fashion giant specializes
in apparel for ages 18 through 22. The 118 year old retailer has been acknowledged for operating a

16). That is no small feat for any company. A amp;F has also branched out into branding sub chain
stores such as Hollister and Abercrombie. These stores reach the younger audience while still
maintaining an image that is more suitable for that audience. Those stores have also flourished in
their own environment to gain consumer recognition and loyalty. A amp;F is able to create
successful sub brand operations that tap into other target markets.
Greatest Weaknesses The greatest weaknesses that A amp;F has is that the economic downturn
has forced consumers to tone down their spending habits and give up non necessary items like
brand name clothing. This has been especially hard on online sales for A amp;F. The company s
sales for online items have been down and the profit margin is non existent. This makes it hard to
keep the online service available when it does not offer the company with any profit. The lawsuits
A amp;F face are not only because of suggestive advertising but because some view them as
discriminatory against minorities. Often A amp;F ads have a picture of white young adults. This is
seen as that is A amp;F only target; white young adults. In 2005, Abercrombie paid $40 million to a
class of African Americans, Asian Americans, Latinos and women to settle another workplace
discrimination lawsuit, (Casabona, 2010, para. 7). The company has been ridiculed and mocked for
their practice, although that does not

The Marxist Approach On Understanding And Explaining Crime
HAS 262 Explaining Crime

Question/topic chosen
The question in which I have chosen for this assignment is:
Critically analyse the Marxist approach to understanding and explaining crime
Why did you choose this topic?
I was first originally pressed to this topic not only because am I completing a bachelor of social
science to major in criminology but I am also completing a major in sociology. So far in sociology
we have learnt about Karl Marx and his contributions to sociology including the theories of
dialectical materialism and alienation. Alongside Emilie Durkheim and Max Weber, Marx is
perceived as one of the three creators of the social sciences. When exploring my options of

state in capitalist societies.
4.Cowling, M (2011) Can Marxism Make Sense of Crime?, Global Discourse, 2:2, 59 74,
Discussion
In this journal Cowling explores the many ways in which Marxism has been used to analyze crime.
He has presented a summary of the reasonable opportunities in using Marxism to construct
awareness of his criminological theory.
Identity and discuss three of the key concepts and/or principles associated with the theory that is
central to your chosen question.
Initially, Marxism emphases on the conflict of three socioeconomic classes:
The capitalists, who own the income of construction and manipulate the excess labour of others.
The Bourgeoisie, who hold salaried and management (i.e. middle class) positions.
The proletariat, who comprise the working class people.
According the Marx, the capitalist economic structure is sustained by the superstructure of social
organisations for example law, education and politics and the criminals were part of the

How A Company Can Use Its Weaknesses And Opportunities
The GE case is an example of how a company can use its weaknesses and opportunities to further
its progress. The company saw the potential of the internet in changing businesses. Moreover, for a
change to be effective and be felt across the organization, it must start from the top as Jack Welch
showed by taking typing classes. Further, companies should embrace technology involve their
clients whenever planning to change. This was seen when GE decided to launch the icenter to
connect with customers on its products and services. GE s strategy, like the other companies, chose
to change its way of doing businessby embracing the power of the internet and seeking to be a
leader in the field (Laudon Laudon, 2014).
Rand McNally, on the other hand, provides businesses with lessons, such as changing the
corporate culture to embrace productivity. The company had to do away with the conservative
corporate culture. The CEO of the company chose to personally interact with employees through
an open door policy and responded personally to emails. This is reminiscent of Welch s
leadership at GE. Moreover, businesses should incur worthwhile risks to generate more income in
addition to addressing the needs of their target audience. Businesses can learn from the Randy
McNally case that proper planning is essential to a business, which is opposite to what boo.com
did hence their failure. Like, GE, Income, Mashaweer, and B N, Rand McNally chose to address
the needs of its clients.

Essay on Why the American Civil War Lasted for Longer Than...
Why the American Civil War lasted for longer than 90 days The North had expected their war
with the south to last for no more than 90 days. They not only had more men up in the north but
they had more resources as well. Now why couldn t they defeat the south? I have to say it is due to
the incompetence of the north s generals commanding the army, and the army itself. On April 15,
1861, President Lincoln called on the states to provide 75,000 militia men for 90 days to put down
the rebellion of the south.
On the other hand, the south had the state of Virginia on its side; this gave them a better chance of
victory. It was the home of Robert E. Lee, a brave leader who had been Lincoln s choice for

battle of the Civil War was fought in Virginia, near the Manassas; this battle later became known

Jackson s ability to hold his ground and his stubbornness, the men saw him and his militia to

Confederates were able to hold out until General Johnston showed up with 9000 reinforcements to

soldiers were fleeing back to Washington. However, because of the disorganization of Beauregard s

The battle proved that this was not going to be a one sided war for either side, as was predicted.
The casualties soared to 2,900 killed, wounded, captured, or missing for McDowell s army and

the North a feeling for revenge.

Italian Baroque And The Protestant Baroque Styles
The Baroque era spans a period of 150 years. During this time, baroque art had four distinct styles.
I plan to focus on the Italian Baroque and the Protestant Baroque styles. While these styles share
some similarities, they are also very different. The Italian Baroque style is often ornate and focused
on religion with an emphasis on the need for the church s guidance. The Protestant Baroquestyle is
plain with no obvious religious messages and less need for guidance from the church. Both styles
contain many amazing pieces of artwork, but I plan to focus on Bernini s Baldacchino and Vermeer
s Woman Holding a Balance.
The Italian Baroque style of art was established by the Catholic Church to bring individuals
focus back to the church. This is also known as Counter Reformation. The artwork was often
very elaborate, large in scale, showed movement and contained religious objects that glorified the
Catholic Church (Armstrong). Another trademark of this time was the ability of the artwork to
evoke emotions (Hollander). It was their attempt to show people they must lean on the church to
be successful. If there is one piece of art that displays all of these characteristics perfectly, it is
the Baldacchino by Bernini. This is a magnificent piece that one could stare at for hours and
probably not take in all of the details. The scale of the Baldacchino is enormous. The Baldacchino
is located in St. Peter s Basilica and made of bronze and stands ninety three feet high

The Between Socrates And Meno
Meno was a student of Gorgias, and he has a long discussion with Socrates about what virtue is.
Socrates and Meno wonder if virtue can be taught, Meno proposes that it may be a result of practice
or an inherent trait, but before they can answer that question they first need to agree on what virtue
is. Meno makes multiple attempts at a description of virtueand Socrates points out potential
problems. A definition of virtue is not settled, which leads to the discussion about the problem of
learning. If neither or them know what virtue is then how will they know if they find it. Plato
describes this ongoing discussion between Socrates and Meno.
Meno s first attempt at the description of virtue is listing examples. The health of a man is the
same as that of a woman, is virtue the same for both as well? Meno states that there are certain
virtues for men, like managing public affairs, helping friends, harming enemies, and protecting
oneself. There are different virtues for women, managing the home, protecting possessions, and
being submissive to one s husband. There are also different virtues for children, slaves, the
elderly, and so on. The virtue of a man consists of managing his city well while the virtue of a
woman is managing her household well. It is agreed that both of these things need to be managed
moderately and justly. So both the men and women need justice and moderation in order to
achieve their virtue well. It is also decided that all men are good in the same way,

Why Should Lottery Tickets Be Abolished
In the United States pretty much everybody, at least once, buys a lottery ticket. This can ruin
children s academic funds. Even though lotteries have been dated all the way back to the Roman
times they should be terminated. When anybody buys lottery tickets it can be wither the money

be cut from the normal budget in the schools. This means that if less people buy lottery tickets

The difference between casinos and lotteries is getting to be very slim. You have to be 18 to get
into a casino, but lottery tickets are being sold to eight year olds. 30 35 percent high school
students buy lottery tickets (source A). A better way of helping raise state funds for education is
to donate to the school specifically and not go and buy lottery tickets. The tickets do not help as
much as it would be to donate to the school personally. States take most of the money from the
lottery tickets that people buy. It cost $1 to buy a lottery ticket. The state government then takes 50
cents to put it in the pool and proceeds redistributes the remaining 50 cents. That means you bought
something that is valued at 50 cents, so you paid 100 percent sales tax on that item (source B).
That is one of the worst bets we can make in our society today. Also the state loses money on
lotteries because the supply companies are tremendously expensive. So that means they do not have
that much money to donate to schools afterwards. In conclusion, lotteries should either be
improved or just terminated. They only donate 8.4 percent of what they are expected to donate to
schools. This can ruin academic funds for children and even ruin their

Communist Union And The Soviet Union
In the past, nations have decided to run their counties under a command economy, or an economy in
which production, investment, prices, and incomes are determined centrally by a government.
Command economies are more prevalent in developing countries, like on the continents of Africa
and Asia. North Korea, Iran, Cuba, Myanmar, and Liberia currently have command economies and
the Soviet Unionand China used to have one. In the past, many countries including the Soviet Union
attempted to implement command economies that would later fail. As a result, most of the current
countries using them are beginning to make reforms to leave their command economies behind,
like Mikhail Gorbachev s glasnost, or political transparency, and perestroika, also known as
economic restructuring, in the 1980 s (Dewdney). The Soviet Union officially collapsed in
December 1991, ending the long standing communist rule under a command economy in Russia
and its satellite countries for good.
There were many oppressive elements to the Soviet Union during their almost 70 year reign over
Russia and its surrounding countries. The communist political system and the command economy
were both highly centralized. The economy was based on the idea that the all means of
production, distribution, and exchange were controlled by the government, plans that were set in
place by Soviet leader Joseph Stalin s five year plans that set goals for all forms of production
(Dewdney). Unlike in a market economy, consumers

Ancient Mariner Religion
The Rime of The Ancient Mariner is a poem written by the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and it
focuses itself on a tale of an Ancient Mariner who is cursed for life, while he has to live telling the
story of his errors in order for people to not commit the same mistakes through religious allegories,
conveying different themes portraying Christianity. Although the tale of The Rime of the Ancient
Marineris not religious in itself, since it does not follow any traditional Christian themes, there are
multiple of instances in which The Mariner sends a hidden message towards the audience. This
message is supported through Coleridge s symbolism to many biblical terms, which are found
throughout the poem, for example the mysterious wind hitting

Socrates and the Apology
Some of the best sources of information about Socrates philosophical views are the early
dialogues of his student Plato, who tried to provide a faithful picture of the methods and teachings
of the great master. The Apology is one of the many recorded dialogues about Socrates. It is about
how Socrates was arrested and charged with corrupting the youth, believing in no god(s) (Atheism)
and for being a Sophist. He attended his trial and put up a good argument. I believe that Socrateswas
wrongfully accused and should not have been sentenced to death. Within the duration of this
document, I will be discussing the charges laid against Socrates and how he attempted to refute the
charges.

He suggests that he should receive maintenance at Athens expense. Socrates argues against
banishment from Athens and states that he will only continue to practice philosophy and annoy
people elsewhere. Socrates claims that the verdict reflects his own refusal to agree sophistically
. Weep and wail and say unworthy things. It is unworthy to be sevile to escape danger . Socrates
then claims that vengeance shall fall upon his executioners. He claimed that instead of executing a
critic, the verdict will only make more critics and thus the opposite result will be achieved. His
final message was to not stifle criticism and to make themselves as manly as they are. Socrates
then comforts those who voted for aquital by suggesting death a blessing. Socrates then states that
death is either an eternal dreamless sleep or a migration of the soul from this place to another.
Socrates of course states that maybe he will spend his time examining his ideas of his fellow
intellectuals. Socrates then claims that nothing can harm a good man.
br
br Personally I feel that Socrates defense was excellent. He proves that he is an intelligent man
and that he is capable of thinking and speaking for himself. I feel that he was tried unfairly and
that maybe the only reason why he was even arrested in the first place was because Meletus was
angry that Socrates made him look and feel like a fool. I think that he was arrested because

Stereotypes in American Born Chinese Essay examples
All women are too sensitive! All Mexicans are illegal immigrants! If you re from the South, then
you are ignorant! Most people have heard at least one of these stereotypes pertaining to a certain
group. Some people believe them whilst others do not. American Born Chinese illustrates three
stories depicting the custom of stereotypes surrounding society: The Monkey King , the story of
Monkey King s thirst for infinite power, and his quest for atonement; Jin Wang , the story an
awkward boy who tries to fit in the community around from but constantly fails; and Danny , the

especially in American society, classmates look to their Asian counterparts to provide the answers
to questions they do not know in every subject they take. Nonetheless, this ridiculous assumption
hurts the Asian students that do not feel comfortable with their intellectual abilities. Placing Asian
students as the model student excludes the students who actually have problems and need help that
other classmates are reluctant to give the students simply because their classmates do not view
helping their struggling Asian classmates as an actual necessity. By poking fun and bringing into
light both Asian stereotypes, Yang enforces view that stereotypes are in use today. Likewise, both

may not be ethical but mangers see it as a necessary evil, as their use of the budget tend to be used
as a means of assessment and evaluation. As they fight to control the budget, they also fight to
maintain their jobs and current position within the firm. Therefore this unsavoury behaviour is
created by the use of budgetary control, and where the business environment is unpredictable this
behaviour, can become even more damaging to the business as a whole and not just the department

Analysis Of Kara Walker And Larry Walker
Kara Walker was born to Gwen and Larry Walker on the 26th of November, 1969. They, at the
time of Kara s birth, lived in Stockington, California with their two children Dana and Larry Jr.
Gwen worked as an administrative assistant and Larry was a professor of arts at the University
of the Pacific in Stockington; he taught a wide variety of studio classes while he worked there
and often brought his projects home with him. Kara and her siblings all remember sitting upon
his lap while he worked; Kara in particular has said in an interview with her father that You
[Larry Walker] held me and kept me around. There was a feeling of safety associated with
making stuff and I got a good vibe from doing drawings ( Kara Walker Larry Walker ). Her
mother and father also made it a point of taking their children to museums and art galleries
throughout their childhood; Larry additionally allowed his children to come with him when he
delivered artworks to various exhibits. Kara s life changed drastically when she was thirteen
years old. In 1983 her father accepted the position as Chair of the Department of Art at Georgia
State University and they moved from their home in San Francisco to the Atlanta area in Georgia.
Kara attended her first high school there, Towers High School, whose environment was vastly
different then what she had been used to on the west coast. Kara was continuously put down

A PIP does not have to be the same as the tax year. PIPs can be different between pension schemes
and can be changed by an individual. For new pensions started after the 6th April 2011, a PIP will
automatically end on the 5th April. It is important to understand that PIPs are only used for the
Annual Allowance and any contributions made to a scheme will still be eligible for tax relief in
the tax year that they are made.

Only contributions made in excess of the annual allowance will be charged. The rate will

Crusades Religious Meaning
This paper is going to discuss the Crusades religious meaning as a cleansing, the religious
motivations to defeat the enemies of Christendom, the religious manifestations of sewing the sign
of the Cross on clothes, and role of religious institutions, more specifically the Papacy.
I will use the sources given to me to explain the different topic I listed before. I will use both
primary and secondary sources.
The Crusades had many different religious meanings. One of which was a Crusade as cleansing.
By participating in the Crusades one would have a remission of all sins. And for the ones who
could not physically fight in the battles, they would have to help financially.4 Usually Catholics
had to go to a priest for confession and then get penance to get rid of sins. The idea of indulgence
was so popular among the people that the church started promoting it.1 It was also a big attraction
for many soldiers who had man sins from their pasts.1

redemption.2 Another religious manifestation was divine signs. One of the many divine signs
was the cross. The cross became a sign of physical sacrifice. Just as Christ sacrificed himself the
crusaders sacrificed their physical bodies to the cause.4 The final religious manifestation that I
will talk about are the sermons. Many sermons used biblical figures as an example of God
leading them to war, just as God led many Old Testament figures.2 Two of the most used sermons
was the Israelites and the Promised Land and the fight of the Maccabees against their foes. They
also used Ephesians 6:11 17 as a sermon, putting on the armor of

Questions and Answers on the Sedar
1. How does the Seder link the present to the past? The Seder links the present to the past by
telling the story of the Exodus, and remembering the struggle they had to go through before
regaining the Holy Land. Freedom is the primary thing of the Seder. The Seder allow Jews to
worship God through prayer, and learning by taking part in the lesson of Jewish history, and
religion. The Seder lets one symbolically relive the Exodus, where past and present merge (
Bokser,2002, p. 147). Jews have created script in order to tell the story of the Seder by using the
Haggadah. It contains questions, answers, stories, shows, tells, song, and symbol. 2. Explain the
symbolic meaning of all the foods used in the Seder? Every Seder has numerous ritual foods and
other items. Each item has its purpose and often its specific place on the Seder plate. The
roasted lamb called zeroah, which symbolizes the sacrifice made at the night when ancient
Hebrews fled Egypt. The baytsah is a symbol of the sacrificial offerings which was performed in
the days of the Second Temple. Maror is the bitter herbs, which bring tears to the eyes and recall
the bitterness of slavery. Charoset represents the mortar used by the Hebrew slaves to make
bricks. Karpas symbolize the freshness of spring. Salt water symbolizes the tears and sweat of
enslavement. Often a single bowl of salt water sits on the table, which each person dips their
karpas during the Seder. A plate that has a stack of three pieces of

Jezebel Beliefs
The kingdom of Israel was divided into two kingdoms. The northern kingdom of Israel was
made up of ten tribes not including Judah and Benjamin. The northern kingdom was known as
Israel and the southern kingdom was known as Judah. King Omri, Ahab s father founded
Samaria, the capital of Israel. It survived approximately up until 722 BC when the Assyrians
destroyed it. Every king who ruled over Israel was evil. An example of this is, King Ahab who
married Jezebel princess of Phoenicia, which would be the reason for the fall of the kingdom.
Ahab was the son Omri. Jezebel was the daughter of Ethbaal, King of Tyre. Jezebel introduced
the worship of Baal and other idols. She forcefully encouraged her husband, the king of Israel, to
abandon all worship of Yahweh. Jezebel was very intimidating, terrifying and treacherous. Besides
the worship of Yahweh a popular religion during the time of Ahab and Jezebel was Baal and

Letter To Lululemon Essay
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter today. Lululemon is a store, which I visit often,
due to the clothing being modern and popular. However, I am writing you today to address a
problem I ran into at your stores and to propose a possible solution.
I noticed that Lululemon clothing prices are marked up a great percentage than what a fair price
would be. The fabric advertised is a special mix, Luon. However, after completing research, many
brands, such as Athleta and Adidas, use a similar mix and their pants are lower in price. This would
not be so much of a problem for Lululemon if the quality matched the price. Yet, there have been
complaints from Lululemon customers where the clothing displayed pilling or sheerness after just a
few washes something I too have experienced. A customerexpects good quality from their clothing,
especially if they are willing to spend a large amount of money on it.
I have a proposal to solve the problem. A successful solution would include the criteria of being
affordable for everyone, creating a competitive market with athletic brands, and maintaining the
quality of clothing.
My solution is to lower the price of the clothing to match the quality. This would create a fair price
that would compete with other athletic clothing stores. On the ... Show more content on

Lululemon would lose money by lowering the cost of clothing. This is not necessarily true as
people already buy the clothing at the current price. Therefore, lowering the price would
theoretically increase the sales dramatically, which in turn means Lululemon is making more
money. A second objection is the fact that the pants are expensive due to the brand name. While this
is true, having an even slightly lower price would attract more customers and grow the brand

Christians of the first century in Asia Minor had knowledge in the OT, and would most likely have

Christians in the first century struggled primarily with three things. Firstly the influences of the

and finally the disunity between some Jews and Christians.
Looking back at Isaiah 6 :1 5 and the vision of the throne room of God, the Christians of the first

Five Tenets Of Management
Derrick Majchszak
Mr. Michael Kimmel
Management 3318
23 March 2016
Five Tenets of Management The business world is a far different place in the beginning of the
21st century than it was at the beginning of the 20th century. Globalization is occurring at an ever
increasing pace. The speed with which people can communicate and with which people and goods
can travel has fundamentally altered the perception of distance. People of different cultures are
finding it easier than ever to move for work. Businesses are finding that the diversity of their
workforces are increasing at a rapid rate. Management and leadership have to be able to change
and adapt for a business to be successful in this swiftly changing environment. The best way for a
business to succeed is to implement a Total Quality Management approach that strictly adheres to
five principles, otherwise known as pillars. Total Quality Management (TQM) is not a new
management style, nor is it an Asian management style. The roots of TQM can be traced back to
two Americans, William Deming and Joseph Juran. American organizations were not interested in
learning new management techniques, so Deming and Juran traveled to Asia. The Japanese,
desperate for a recovery after WWII, latched on to the roots of TQM and grew it into the
management style that TQM is recognized as today. The last few decades have seen TQM labeled
an Asian management style because the Japanese and other Asian countries became so adept at
utilizing TQM s

The three major deficits are sensory, fine motor, and gross motor deficits. An extreme reaction to
sensory stimulation is sensory deficit and there are two subtypes: hypersensitive, which is

Reasons why motor skills can be a problematic at times for people with autism, because they

collar individuals or corporate defendants that readers or viewers will have heard of, such as
celebrities or notable individuals in society (Jewkes 2004, 49; Levi 2006, 1044; Levi 2009, 60).
This concern leads to the focus of agency in the portrayal of white collar crime, rather than the
depiction of the structural embeddedness of crime within the organisation culture. Moreover, past
study has shown that majority of white collar crime portrayal in the news media has focused on
crimes of individuals and their punishment, in order to minimise the negative publicity of
corporations (Benediktsson 2010, 2202 2203). The news coverage of white collar crime has been
selective (Stephenson Burton 1995, 137), as seen in the higher coverage of white collar crime
stories involving well known individuals. Therefore, the element of dramatisation is constructed
through the ways individuals are represented in the media, by focusing on the lifestyle and wealth
of the offenders, generated from the crime they

In a Bind: Peak Sealing Technologies Product Line
Extension Dilemma
It was a scorching hot day in July 2013 as Emma Taylor arrived at her office in Peak Sealing
Technologies Dallas, Texas corporate headquarters. Taylor had been with Peak Sealing Technologies
(PST) for six years since earning her MBA. She was the product manager for K2 Tape, the
company s premium pressure sensitive carton sealing tape line. Recently, a small regional tape
producer had found some success with a cheaper, economy grade version that lacked the patented
adhesive technology and high quality materials that K2 Tape products offered. Some members of

The K2 Tape formulation delivered a higher level of performance versus standard hot melt/BOPP
film3 backing that was used by many K2 Tape competitors. K2 Tape s polyester film backing
provided more durability, holding force, and higher heat/cold resistance than BOPP film and was
suited for more challenging sealing applications. The K2 Tape product value proposition focused on
the lowest overall cost to the end user through superior performance. In house testing provided
extensive comparative data illustrating K2 Tape s exceptional performance under wide ranging
conditions.
There were many competitive tape products in the market. Carton sealing tape was available in a
variety of strengths, widths, thickness, adhesives and backing materials. K2 Tape offered the most
advanced adhesive technology, but often competed against inferior, economy grade products like
those produced by Ipack. Ipack tapes were lower quality, BOPP backed products that lacked
K2Tape s strength and consistent performance, but end user pricing was often 25 35% below K2
Tape.
Exhibit 2 provides end user prices for select Ipack tapes. In 2012, K2 Tape saleswere approximately
$68.6 million (Table A provides K2 Tape annual sales figures), compared to Ipack sales of $28.5
million in 2012.

Stormbreaker Quotes
Anthony Horowitz s dystopian novel Stormbreaker, is about a teen named Alex Rider. When
Alex s Uncle Ian, his last remaining family member, dies, Alex finds out his life was surrounded
by lies, including that his Uncle was actually a spy rather than a banker. Due to this Alex ends
up at MI6, the secret spy agency, instead of his uncle s employer, a bank. He is thrown on a
mission by way of blackmail, and doesn t know what to do. He meets Herod Sayle, a successful
businessman, that had been bullied as a young Egyptian child with a strange accent and
appearance. This had led to a great deal of ridicule at the hands of his classmates, something
expected of school age children. However, rather than learning from this torment and becoming a

At the ceremony, Alex barges in and stops it. This can be seen when Horowitz describes Alex
shooting at the button in an attempt to destroy it, The first bullet smashes into the information
desk. The second hit the prime minister in the hand, his finger less than an inch away from the
mouse. The third hit the mouse, blowing it into fragments. The fourth hit an electrical
connection, disintegrating the plug and short circuiting it (Horowitz 453). This quote is
important because it shows Alex foiling Sayle s plans for revenge and making it bittersweet .
Yet, this was not all that happened as a result of Sayle s revenge. Sayle catches Alex and walks
him up to the top of his building at gunpoint where he plans to kill him. A helicopter comes out
of nowhere and there were two explosive cracks in the air. Horowitz then says, Alex looked
down, expecting to see blood. There was nothing. He couldn t feel anything. Then Sayle
staggered and fell onto his back. There were two gaping holes in his chest (Horowitz 477). This
scene is important because Sayle dies. This scene shows that Sayle s seek for revenge leads to his
own bittersweet

Fremont High School By Jonathan Kozol

ENGL100 18
November 18, 2014 FREMONT HIGH SCHOOL BY JONATHAN KOZOL Schools lacking
social utilities that are needed to promote the academic status of its students is an issue. Whether
these benefits should be kept opened or closed is widely debated in most societies. The condition
of such schools is an important issue because it determines the future of its students academically.
Some issues facing schools include social, public and economic issues; this essay will consider
arguments concerning the social, public and economical causes of this problem through the use of
Jonathan Kozol s FREMONT HIGH SCHOOL , which was written to expose the poor conditions
in Fremont high school and seek in the improvement of the school system. In his essay, Kozol
identified Fremont high school as a public school that has over a thousand students enrolled but
does not have a convenient environment suitable for learning. Some classes are taught in portables
or storage rooms and they do not even have windows and this is where the students are being
taught. Students are given inadequate time to eat and rest for breaks before continuing with their
classes and some students do not bother to eat. Rodents run freely in Fremont high. Hamburger
buns have rat bite marks and rat droppings have been found around the school. At Fremont only one
or two bathrooms are operational and there are fifteen bathrooms short that are required by the

Cant Stop Won T Stop Sociology
I believe that Can t Stop, Won t Stop, Wild Style, Egyptian Lover, Finding the funk, and Breakin n
Enterin speak to each other in helping narrate hip hop s origin mythologies. Each of these represent
different sectors of the black community and how it all intertwines. Breaking down each element it
will be easy to see how each goes hand in hand with each other.
Can t Stop, Won t Stop is an element that gives a lot of information from different areas. This
provides a highlight on some of the most important people of the time, Fab Five Freddy. The
background is shown to be described with a Jamaican element. Gangs of the Bronx had their own
contribution. This was the beginnings of DJ Kool Herc and brought up street parties. Graffiti
became popular in 1965 which made a connection to hip. Hip Hop was seen as a part of the culture.

Throughout the movie you are able to see the elements of hip hop all throughout the movie for
example there was graffiti in the background. It was easy to see the different factors that are
brought out in hip hop. During the music scenes you can hear the rapping in the music scenes.
Egyptian Lover definitely brought out a different element out of the other four sectors. The
reasoning of the name Egyptian Lover was to show and let women know he was a lover and not a
fighter. Hip Hop was seen as an aggressive genre where people viewed it as being very violent.
You are able to see how he interacted with the music to create a song. He was able to bring out
Cold Crush Brothers, the Zulu Nation.
Finding the funk outlined how funk influenced hip hop in a very immediate way. Funk was an
element that was highlighted within hip hop. Many people argued that funk was the beginning of
hip hop. James Brown helped to promote black music in general and he was known as the King of
Funk. Hip Hop didn t exist when dance started, that all dealt with

International Students Information-Seeking Behaviors
Journal Article 1
Sara Jackson
Liberty University Summary Cho and Lee (2016) created a study to find out how international
students that attended colleges in the United States sought out information on the correct behaviors
of life on college campuses. Considering the continuous increase of international students, the main
goal of this study was to investigate how international students information seeking behaviors
directly and indirectly impacted communication satisfaction with instructors and school life
satisfaction (Cho Lee, 2016, p.597). The researchers had to become familiar with cultural
backgrounds of the students. This was an important variable to understand which provided light as

I am a firm believer that as teacher we most know all of our students backgrounds. As Jones and
Jones state, ...it is absolutely essential that you understand your students beliefs and values about
learning and personal relationships and that you incorporate them into your decision making
(Jones Jones, 2016, p.23). Teachers cannot treat all students the same way. Even if your students
are not from another country it is important to treat their beliefs and values equally. I do not want
to offend any student or parents by assuming that I know how all students should act and respond
in a situation. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more
significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the
interests of others (Philippians 2:3 4). This is an appropriate verse for my discussion. It represents
everything you need to know about treat people. Think of others and do not assume everyone is
the same. This is made possible by knowing others and their beliefs and

Inequality Of Income Inequalities
Executive Compensation. I m in agreement with Thomas Piketty that the one cause of rising
inequality in the United States the rise of supersalaries for top executives (Piketty Goldhammer,
2014, p. 298). The average American estimates CEO to worker pay ratio at about 30 to 1, which
is more than 4 times what they believe to be ideal. The career review site Glassdoor reported
from 2014 data that the average pay ratio of CEO to median worker was 204 to 1 and that at the
top of the list, four CEOs earn more than 1,000 times the salary of their median worker with the
very top pay ratio of 1,951 to 1. In some cases a CEO makes in one hour what it takes the average

African American s have been on the bottom end of inequalities since their arrival United States,

for all workers. Advances in technology is part of the natural cycle of industry and while some
jobs will initially fall victim to it new skills and training will provide for new careers. Thomas

After entering the data, it must be reviewed to catch any errors. Cleaning the data is done with
basic steps. Of course the data is imported from the source, but there should always be some
backup involved in order to keep the integrity of the data. In some cases the next step would be
manipulation or spellchecking. This depends on what kind of data is involved. However, in this
case spell checking is not necessary, but manipulation is. For instance with manipulation, they
may have to add a column or two, or even add a zero randomly for missing data. Below is

George Herbert Mead s Theory Of Symbolic Interactionism
According to George Herbert Mead, symbolic interactionism is a theory that rely on the reality of
human s daily actions which are interactions. It focuses on roles and behaviour as well as human s
interactions and actions. The idea that individuals use language and significant symbols in their
communication with others is the central to symbolic interactionist thought . Rather than
addressing how common social institutions define and impact individuals, symbolic interactionists
shift their attention to the interpretation of subjective viewpoints and how individuals make sense
of their world from their unique perspective. Symbolic interactionismbasically means the ongoing
use of language and gestures in anticipation of how others will react which is equal to a

Morris in 1934. His theory of the self maintains that the conception a person holds of themselves
in their mind emerges from social interaction with others. This is, in effect, a theory and argument
against biological determinism because it holds that the self is not at the start there at birth nor
necessarily at the beginning of a social interaction, but is constructed and re constructed in the
process of social experience and activity. This means individuals expand their self concept
through interactions with other people. Self concept gives a vital motive towards people
behaviour. For example, people will not repeat their mistakes once it pointed out by other people.
Not only that, the meanings also regulate our behaviour and actions so that people do not act
hastily and recklessly. This also make us different and seem disciplined in the current world that
people can get popular for doing something stupid and inappropriate in social media platforms like

The Origins Of The Viking
The term Viking commonly relinquishes thoughts of ship born warriors and pillagers known as
the Norsemen, or men from the north, who originated in Scandinavia and raided the coasts of
Britain, Ireland and mainland Europe as far east as the Volga River in Russia from the late 8th to
11th century. The terminology of the Viking has also been denoted by historians as entire
populations of Viking AgeScandinavia and their settlements. Although the Norsemenare infamous
for their pillaging and plundering they were also intensely focused on establishing sufficient trade
routes throughout Europeand implementing economically sustainable villages with functional
currency. Although the barbarian invasions undoubtedly deepened the initial economic crisis and
the emergence of the barbarian kingdoms made traveling less safe which accelerated the collapse
of long distance trade. At the same time also declining the importance of the cities as cultural and
trade centers. The claim that the barbarian invasions resulted in a long tenured period of general
economic and cultural decline can be argued against with sufficient evidence. Considering the
economic crisis started much earlier and could not be reversed neither by the reforms of Diocletian
nor of Constantine. It was not until after this initial depression that the extensive trade routes of the
Norsemen were able to redefine Europe economically and culturally.
The established Norse trade network included trading relationships

recurrence of former habits monitoring and possible greater intervention may need to take

  • 2. Pandora Compare And Contrast Essay Another important requirement for the process of natural selection among species is having a variety of traits. The variation of traits to be selected upon by the environment allows for the changing of allele frequencies among the generations of the population. One of the main sources for genetic variation is sexual reproduction, which occurred between members of the Na vi and members of the Thanator species. Sexual reproduction among members of a species can lead to genetic mutations in the DNA, which can attribute to the variability of genes. One obvious variable trait among the hominid species of Pandora is their height. The males were typically seen to be taller in height than the females, but with each member having a different height the trait can vary among offspring. If the environment demands for taller offspring then it will naturally select for that trait among individuals,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The species throughout Pandora also seem to have homologous characteristics among each other. A homologous structure is essentially an anatomical similarity between organisms of different species that are representative of variations on a structural basis and are derived from a common ancestor. Different homologous structures are present depending on the species and their kingdom, for example mammals tend to have pelvic bones and fish do not. Homology Between the Hominids and Various Species on Pandora Much homology exists between the hominid species of Pandora and the other species, such as the fact that the hominids have four fingers and toes on each hand and foot, and the thanator species has four finger like claws on each foot. This even number of phalanges between both species must be beneficial to both of them in some way, enough so that it has become a heritable trait that was chosen by the environment through the process of natural ... Waiting for Superman effectively identifies failing schools, incompetent teachers, and administrative constraints as the main issues under mining educationin the U.S. today. Each child s parent places them in the charter schools lottery drawing to earn a place in the school. A lottery is an equal drawing that most charter schools do to make it fair for each child. If the question mark does not succeed in becoming the market leader, then after perhaps years of cash consumption it will degenerate into a dog when the market growth declines. Question marks must be analyzed carefully in order to determine whether they are worth the investment required to grow market share. Stars are units with a high market share in a fast growing industry (High Market Share / High Market Growth). The hope is that stars become the next cash cows. Sustaining the business unit s market leadership may require extra cash, but this is worthwhile if that s what it takes for the unit to remain a leader. When growth slows, if they have been able to maintain their category leadership stars become cash cows, else they become dogs due to low relative market share. As a particular industry matures and its growth slows, all business units become either cash cows or dogs. The natural cycle for most business units is that they start as question marks, then turn into stars. Eventually the market stops growing thus the business unit becomes a cash cow. At the end of the cycle the cash cow turns into a dog. The overall goal of this ranking was to help corporate analysts decide which of their business units to fund, and how much; and which units to sell. Managers were supposed to gain perspective from this analysis that allowed them to plan with confidence to use money generated by the cash cows to fund the stars and, possibly, the question marks. • 6. Jonathan Swift s Literary Canon Of Politically And... Thesis Statement: Jonathan Swift s literary canon of politically and comically prolific satires, fantasies, and allegories was seasoned with his exposure to the follies of the economic, religious and governing institutions of the British Empire, and thus, he sought to lampoon and caricature the current events and social, cultural, religious, and political trends that were so omnipotent during his lifetime. Swift s exposure to the monarchical mentality and rife factional conflicts pervading the political sector of England influenced a number of his literary works. A. In 1710, Swift, disgusted with their alliance with the Dissenters, withdrew from the Whigs, aligned himself with the Tories, and took up the position of editor of the Tory newspaper The Examiner (Cody). But Swift did not thereby renounce his essentially Whiggish convictions regarding the nature of government. The old Tory theory of the divine right of kings had no claim upon him. The ultimate power, he insisted, derived from the people as a whole and, in the English constitution, had come to be exercised jointly by king, lords, and commons (Quintana). Through his many articles and pamphlets that were written in defense of Tory policies, Swift became one of the most effective spokespersons of any British administration. With the death of Queen Anne in August 1714 and the accession of George I, the Tories were a ruined party, and Swift s career in England was at an end. When Swift was writing Gulliver s ... It was the first corps legalized in the U.S. during the beginning of the Civil War. The center of the Army of the Potomac was called the Army of Northeast Virginia, commanded by Brig.Gen. Irvin Mcdowell. They fought the Battle of Bull Run under Mcdowell and lost. Soon after the loss, the Union Army had a change of plans for the leadership of the Army of the Potomac. They appointed Major General George B. McClellan, who had plans to dramatically change the makeup of the army. As the Army of the Potomac held off the Confederates from attempting to make their way through the North, it was Mclellan s last major battle while he was the commander of the Army of the Potomac. On November 9th, 1862, the Union decided to appoint Major General Ambrose Burnside. He was not in command for long because he didn t shine in his opportunity against the Confederates in the Battle of Fredericksburg. After a crushing defeat at the battle of Fredericksburg, the Union made a quick change of command by appointing Major General Joseph Hooker. They thought he could get the Union to get back on a roll, but they thought wrong. Against General Robert E. Lee, the Army of the Potomac didn t fare so well. With another wrong choice of a strong commander who could not lead them to victory, they hand picked Major General George G. Meade. He was picked only days before the most important battle in the Civil War at Gettysburg. While the Army of the Potomac was holding off the final push of the confederates into the North, Meade got his first victory under his belt as the Commander of the Army of the Potomac at Gettysburg. With this victory, the Union knew that Meade had the skills required to lead the Army of the Potomac. Meade and his army cruised to victory while handing the Confederates losses left and right. French cleat is made from two piece of dimensional lumber that ripped to a specific angle where each of it will be attached to the wall and cabinet. It can be cut to specific measurement and fit securely in any kitchen cabinet with the greatest of ease because the cabinet can be designed with varying design with movable features. Sancaktar et al. (2003) explained that the higher the strength of joints is influenced by the taper angle at the end of lap zone. The French cleats which are almost like scarf joint types of bonded joints exhibited excellent static performance particularly under compression loading and cyclic fatigue characteristics. The performance demonstrated the effectiveness of this configuration from a perspective design (Broughton et al., 1999). However, designing an optimum French cleat using engineered wood material is complex due to the physical properties and fiber direction that might influence the joint performance. LVL is an engineered woodproduct and has been developed as an alternative to solid wood. According to Colak et al. (2004), due to the manufacturing process in the making of LVL, this material produced a higher strength product and is available in unlimited length and sizes. ECT as an Effective Treatment for Self Harm ECT as an Effective Treatment for Self Harm in Extreme Cases of Mentally Unstable Patients who Cannot Give Informed Consent There is much controversy in regards to how far a practitioner should go to protect a patient s well being, whilst trying to adhere to their rights and consent of treatment methods (Feldman, 1990, p. 261). The most ethical solution is to only resort to extreme methods of treatments if the patient is clearly seen as not being mentally stable enough to provide the right judgement call, and if they are in a life threatening situation in which they could potentially harm themselves or others. In cases where patients are not mentally stable enough to give their consent, their family, guardians, partners, or an authorized... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research by Kellner et al. has also shown how ETC can be effective for behavioural disorders, but in this case, for severe depression. Kellner defends this treatment explaining that many controversies have arose regarding ECT because of misrepresentations of it in the media and lack of knowledge of the logistics of its mechanisms. Patient, Ms. A. , a 72 year old woman became seriously depressed and was not responding to any psychotherapy or drugs pertaining to clinical depression. She was barely able to function properly, and after a course of eight ECT sessions of unilateral ultrabrief pulse treatments , her score on the Hamilton Depression Rating scale, ranked out of 24, went from 38 to 6. She was soon able to continue her usual daily activities (Kellner, 2012, p. 1 2). Miss. A s results from ETC showed that this method of treatment greatly improved her previously severe depression. Depression can lead to attempts at suicide as well as self harming ones self, so extreme punitive treatments are better to pursue than allowing the chance of a patient taking ones own life.(Feldman 1990, p. 263). It is emphasized that consent of patients that are legally incompetent for medical decision making should have a legal guardian to decide for them (Kellner 2012, p. 5). Thus, ETC has shown to be ... Per the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine (JCSM), Transient Global Amnesia (TGA) is defined as a temporary memory loss characterized by an abrupt onset of anterograde (AGA) and retrograde amnesia (RA). In other words, TGA occurs when there is a sudden occurrence of both Anterograde amnesia and retrograde amnesia at the same time. As defined by the JCSM, anterograde amnesia is the acute inability to retain new information and retrograde amnesia is the significant reduction in the ability to recall past events. In studies that concentrated on how Benzodiazepines (a substance used as a sleep aid and an anti anxiety medicine) affected the quality of sleep and memory of events that happen during interrupted sleep periods. Subjects fell back asleep rather quickly, but come morning, had much trouble recalling the tasks they were given to complete earlier in the night. In studies that looked at memory between wake and sleep, researchers presented undergraduate students a verbal word as they drifted off into sleep. But of course, to ensure sleepiness the students were limited to two hours of sleep the night prior to the experiment. Researchers used an electroencephalograph (EEG), which is a tool to determine one s position in the wake to sleep cycle. Using the EEG researchers determined when their subjects were asleep then either allowed them short periods of sleep or long periods before waking them. Once their subjects were woken up, they tested their memory through recognition. Results showed that the subjects who experienced short periods of sleep did, in fact, the memory test. In contrast, the subjects that could sleep for a longer period, in this case, ten minutes, had a greater difficulty remembering the word relayed to them in the five minutes prior to them falling asleep. These results were interpreted as an interruption of the transfer of the memory from short term to long term storage. Thus, the memory was in a sense erased and was unavailable to be recalled. This difficulty is an example of RA, as has been defined, and as an example of RA being induced by interruptions in the quality of sleep. However, if subjects were aroused in any way as they drifted off to sleep and were read their words, then it could be that AGA has been induced. What this fails to conclude however is if both ... What Is Machiavelli Stressed In The Prince Outside people relations, Vlad embodied one of the most crucial principle Machiavelli stressed in The Prince, Principle 10 How the Strength of All States Should be Measured. His front against the Turks established to his people his unwavering dedication to their liberty and safety. This has been especially hard on online sales for A amp;F. The company s sales for online items have been down and the profit margin is non existent. This makes it hard to keep the online service available when it does not offer the company with any profit. The lawsuits A amp;F face are not only because of suggestive advertising but because some view them as discriminatory against minorities. Often A amp;F ads have a picture of white young adults. • 17. How A Company Can Use Its Weaknesses And Opportunities The GE case is an example of how a company can use its weaknesses and opportunities to further its progress. The company saw the potential of the internet in changing businesses. Moreover, for a change to be effective and be felt across the organization, it must start from the top as Jack Welch showed by taking typing classes. Further, companies should embrace technology involve their clients whenever planning to change. This was seen when GE decided to launch the icenter to connect with customers on its products and services. GE s strategy, like the other companies, chose to change its way of doing businessby embracing the power of the internet and seeking to be a leader in the field (Laudon Laudon, 2014). Rand McNally, on the other hand, provides businesses with lessons, such as changing the corporate culture to embrace productivity. The company had to do away with the conservative corporate culture. The CEO of the company chose to personally interact with employees through an open door policy and responded personally to emails. This is reminiscent of Welch s leadership at GE. Moreover, businesses should incur worthwhile risks to generate more income in addition to addressing the needs of their target audience. Businesses can learn from the Randy McNally case that proper planning is essential to a business, which is opposite to what boo.com did hence their failure. • 19. Essay on Why the American Civil War Lasted for Longer Than... Why the American Civil War lasted for longer than 90 days The North had expected their war with the south to last for no more than 90 days. They not only had more men up in the north but they had more resources as well. Now why couldn t they defeat the south? I have to say it is due to the incompetence of the north s generals commanding the army, and the army itself. On April 15, 1861, President Lincoln called on the states to provide 75,000 militia men for 90 days to put down the rebellion of the south. On the other hand, the south had the state of Virginia on its side; this gave them a better chance of victory. It was the home of Robert E. At the beginning of the five hour battle the Union soldiers had the Confederates on the retreat, except for one brigade commanded by General Jackson. Due to Jackson s ability to hold his ground and his stubbornness, the men saw him and his militia to resemble a stone wall; hence he earned the nickname Stonewall Jackson. Thanks to Jackson the Confederates were able to hold out until General Johnston showed up with 9000 reinforcements to help out General Beauregard. The arrival changed the course of the battle and soon the Union soldiers were fleeing back to Washington. However, because of the disorganization of Beauregard s army, they could not pursue McDowell any further. Rico 3 The battle proved that this was not going to be a one sided war for either side, as was predicted. The casualties soared to 2,900 killed, wounded, captured, or missing for McDowell s army and 2,000 for Beauregard s. • 20. Italian Baroque And The Protestant Baroque Styles The Baroque era spans a period of 150 years. During this time, baroque art had four distinct styles. I plan to focus on the Italian Baroque and the Protestant Baroque styles. While these styles share some similarities, they are also very different. The Italian Baroque style is often ornate and focused on religion with an emphasis on the need for the church s guidance. The Protestant Baroquestyle is plain with no obvious religious messages and less need for guidance from the church. Both styles contain many amazing pieces of artwork, but I plan to focus on Bernini s Baldacchino and Vermeer s Woman Holding a Balance. The Italian Baroque style of art was established by the Catholic Church to bring individuals focus back to the church. This is also known as Counter Reformation. The artwork was often very elaborate, large in scale, showed movement and contained religious objects that glorified the Catholic Church (Armstrong). Another trademark of this time was the ability of the artwork to evoke emotions (Hollander). It was their attempt to show people they must lean on the church to be successful. If there is one piece of art that displays all of these characteristics perfectly, it is the Baldacchino by Bernini. This is a magnificent piece that one could stare at for hours and probably not take in all of the details. The scale of the Baldacchino is enormous. Socrates and Meno wonder if virtue can be taught, Meno proposes that it may be a result of practice or an inherent trait, but before they can answer that question they first need to agree on what virtue is. Meno makes multiple attempts at a description of virtueand Socrates points out potential problems. A definition of virtue is not settled, which leads to the discussion about the problem of learning. If neither or them know what virtue is then how will they know if they find it. Plato describes this ongoing discussion between Socrates and Meno. Meno s first attempt at the description of virtue is listing examples. The health of a man is the same as that of a woman, is virtue the same for both as well? Meno states that there are certain virtues for men, like managing public affairs, helping friends, harming enemies, and protecting oneself. There are different virtues for women, managing the home, protecting possessions, and being submissive to one s husband. There are also different virtues for children, slaves, the elderly, and so on. The virtue of a man consists of managing his city well while the virtue of a woman is managing her household well. It is agreed that both of these things need to be managed moderately and justly. So both the men and women need justice and moderation in order to achieve their virtue well. It is also decided that all men are good in the same way, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Communist Union And The Soviet Union In the past, nations have decided to run their counties under a command economy, or an economy in which production, investment, prices, and incomes are determined centrally by a government. Command economies are more prevalent in developing countries, like on the continents of Africa and Asia. North Korea, Iran, Cuba, Myanmar, and Liberia currently have command economies and the Soviet Unionand China used to have one. In the past, many countries including the Soviet Union attempted to implement command economies that would later fail. As a result, most of the current countries using them are beginning to make reforms to leave their command economies behind, like Mikhail Gorbachev s glasnost, or political transparency, and perestroika, also known as economic restructuring, in the 1980 s (Dewdney). The Soviet Union officially collapsed in December 1991, ending the long standing communist rule under a command economy in Russia and its satellite countries for good. There were many oppressive elements to the Soviet Union during their almost 70 year reign over Russia and its surrounding countries. The communist political system and the command economy were both highly centralized. Christians of the first century in Asia Minor had knowledge in the OT, and would most likely have had both Greek and Hebrew copies of the scriptures, due to the mixture of Jewish and Gentile groups within the church. Christians in the first century struggled primarily with three things. Firstly the influences of the emperor cultus, secondly the the overwhelming and pervading cultures of the Greco Roman world, and finally the disunity between some Jews and Christians. Looking back at Isaiah 6 :1 5 and the vision of the throne room of God, the Christians of the first century world would have found it easy to negate or refute the false tenets of the emperor cult, due to the fact that the God of majesty that John describes dwarfs that of the emperor. John reveals to the first century community that God is awesome, he is righteous, and most of all he is in control. We started with 43 nations and dropped a few countries later from the analysis because of missing data. 4. RESULTS AND ANALYSIS Table 2 shows the correlation results among various variables. Average serviceis correlated with all cultural dimensions, except for MF and the correlations are in predicted directions of hypotheses 1 3. The OLS regression results are shown in Table 3. Here also we find that the coefficients of all cultural dimensions (except for MF) area significant and in predicted directions. This provides support for hypotheses 1 3, but not for hypothesis 4. The model explains 54% of the variance of SVA in our sample. To prove hypothesis 5 we selected average service values representing activities in four service sectors: Avg. ICT, Avg. FinIns, Avg. Transport and Avg. Travel. The OLS results are mixed. Results in Table 4 show that only model 2 (please refer to the methodology section earlier) with Avg. ICT as dependent variable has three cultural dimensions significant with expected signs, and Insurance service sector model (model 3 with Avg. FinIns as dependent variable) has one dimension UA significant with expected sign. Transport service sector model with Avg. • 39. Five Tenets Of Management Derrick Majchszak Mr. Michael Kimmel Management 3318 23 March 2016 Five Tenets of Management The business world is a far different place in the beginning of the 21st century than it was at the beginning of the 20th century. Globalization is occurring at an ever increasing pace. The speed with which people can communicate and with which people and goods can travel has fundamentally altered the perception of distance. People of different cultures are finding it easier than ever to move for work. Businesses are finding that the diversity of their workforces are increasing at a rapid rate. Management and leadership have to be able to change and adapt for a business to be successful in this swiftly changing environment. The best way for a business to succeed is to implement a Total Quality Management approach that strictly adheres to five principles, otherwise known as pillars. Total Quality Management (TQM) is not a new management style, nor is it an Asian management style. The roots of TQM can be traced back to two Americans, William Deming and Joseph Juran. American organizations were not interested in learning new management techniques, so Deming and Juran traveled to Asia. The Japanese, desperate for a recovery after WWII, latched on to the roots of TQM and grew it into the management style that TQM is recognized as today. The last few decades have seen TQM labeled an Asian management style because the Japanese and other Asian countries became so adept at utilizing TQM s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Newsworthiness And White-Collar Crime Newsworthiness and its effect on white collar crime depiction The underrepresentation of white collar crime in the news media is caused by lack of newsworthiness elements required by journalists to sell their stories. In 1977, Chibnall study of newsworthiness has highlighted the eight professional codes that govern the construction of news stories, these include of immediacy, dramatisation, personalisation, simplification, titillation, conventionalism, structured access and novelty (Chibnall 1977, 23; Kidd Hewitt 1995,15). For instance, it has been argued that news media is primarily concerned with reporting on white collar individuals or corporate defendants that readers or viewers will have heard of, such as celebrities or notable individuals in society (Jewkes 2004, 49; Levi 2006, 1044; Levi 2009, 60). This concern leads to the focus of agency in the portrayal of white collar crime, rather than the depiction of the structural embeddedness of crime within the organisation culture. Moreover, past study has shown that majority of white collar crime portrayal in the news media has focused on crimes of individuals and their punishment, in order to minimise the negative publicity of corporations (Benediktsson 2010, 2202 2203). The news coverage of white collar crime has been selective (Stephenson Burton 1995, 137), as seen in the higher coverage of white collar crime stories involving well known individuals. K2 Tape s polyester film backing provided more durability, holding force, and higher heat/cold resistance than BOPP film and was suited for more challenging sealing applications. The K2 Tape product value proposition focused on the lowest overall cost to the end user through superior performance. In house testing provided extensive comparative data illustrating K2 Tape s exceptional performance under wide ranging conditions. There were many competitive tape products in the market. Carton sealing tape was available in a variety of strengths, widths, thickness, adhesives and backing materials.
