Rough Draft
The Iranian Hostage Crisis was an event that took place in the capital of Iran in November of 1979
that lasted a long four hundred and forty four days. What led up to the breaking point in the Hostage
crisis happened fast and was a result of a bad tie between the people and government of Iran and the
US involvement with Iran. During the crisis the US president Jimmy Carter had the military attempt
rescues of the hostages. The Iranian Hostage crisis did not only cause tensions to flare between the US
and Iran but also the crisis was a result of already weak ties between the two countries leading to a
negative relationship in the years that followed. The backstory of the ... Show more content on

The leaders of both nations had a large impact on throughout the hostage crisis and even before the
crisis had started. For instance Iran s leader at the time. After the shah of Iran entered the US for
cancer treatment, Ayatollah Khomeini took over with his movement and had a very different approach
to the hostage crisis than the United States president Jimmy Carter did. Khomeini wanted to show his
strength the rest of the world while the US had nothing to prove but wanted to rescue the hostages.
Carter later attempted a rescue which later failed and accomplished nothing for the US. On Iran s side
Khomeini was in full support of the hostages being held in Iran because he believed that it showed
part of the Iranian revolution. Ayatollah Khomeini also believed that was a put down to the American
impact on Iran and their government. These two goals between each leader show the different attitudes
and approach from each side. On Iran s side, they wanted to prove that they were a power in
government and that they could cause big events to happen in the world. For the United states it was
different, the US did not have anything to prove and just wanted the hostages to be free. The US did
not want to cause a big scene either and it showed as

The European Union s Democratic Deficit
The European Union has greatly evolved over the decades since it has begun into a well evolved quasi
state of over 28 countries, and over five hundred million citizens. The European Union has been
regarded as a method to bring democratic stability and economic prosperity to less developed
democracies in East and Central Europe. Although the European Union has a mandate to bring all of
these standards, the European Union lacks these basic standards for their overall institution. This
structural problem has given the European Union its own democratic deficit . The rise of the
democratic deficit has arisen from many undemocratic characteristics of EU institutions, and a lack of
a demos or a lack of a single socio cultural European identity. In order for a political body to remain
legitimate, it must have the trust and support of the citizens it governs, and make changes for the
continuation of its future. In other words, if the European Union does not take action to combat its
democratic deficit, the future of the European Unions institution will be at risk. Another serious issue
is the European Union has seen democratic backsliding of many Eastern European countries. This
paper will discuss the major issues that the Democratic Deficit has caused for the European Union,
and what possible reforms can be done to help fix the democratic deficit. The European Union is one
of the world s greatest economic superpowers. Although the EU does not have the police or military

The Dance Rehearsal And Swing Class
When I observed the dance rehearsal and technique classes, I saw interesting and informative
keynotes. The technique class that I went to was a Beginning Lindy and Swing class. The rehearsal
class that I watched was a Choreography Three class. Even if the two types of dance classes were very
different, they still had little bits and pieces that were similar and incorporated important concepts that
coincided with both of the two classes. Before this class, I had never seen a Beginning Lindy and
Swing technique class before, nor a Choreography Three class. In general, I had never seen an
instructor so passionate about expressing and teaching their craft to their students.
I chose to observe the Beginning Lindy and Swing class first and foremost, because it was the only
class that I could watch that did not overlap with my personal and academic schedule. The second
reason why I chose this class was because, I had the notion that this genre of dance class would be
interesting and historical to watch. This dance is also bold and pungent to look at. This style of class is
interesting because the dance choreography has multiple kicks and jumps which are repeated
consecutively throughout the performance. The reason I choose to watch the choreography three class
is because I wanted to see the students design their own choreography, and observe how it presented
cohesively to the audience.
In the technique class I expected to see male and female students in Lindy shoes and wearing

The Importance Of Freedom In America
Freedom meant multiple things for the people who had endured and survived enslavement in America.
Freedom meant education, being with family, church organizing, voting, and equal rights as white
people. Former slaves informed slave owners that their devotion and loyalty never reflected their true
feelings. As slavery ended families were able to reunite. Freedom also meant land. Special field order
#15 was issued on January 16, 1865 by General William T. Sherman. A 30 mile tract of land was set
aside by the military directive, this land was along the Atlantic coast from Charleston, South Carolina,
245 miles south to Jacksonville, Florida. Sherman reserved this land for black families as white
owners just abandoned the land. The Port Royal Experiment was an effort by northern white
missionaries, educators, and businessmen in the Sea Islands near Beaufort, South Carolina, to
transform former slaves into educated, reliable and industrious wage earners. Congress established the
Bureau of Refugees, Freedman, and Abandoned Lands in February 1865 to assist black and white
Southerners left destitute by the Civil War. The South Homestead Act was passed by Congress in
1866, this set aside over three million acres of land for former slaves and loyal white Southerners to
farm following the Civil War. In 1866 bureau officials tried to force freedmen to sign labor contracts
with white landowners. Black men who refused to sign could be arrested. The most important

Essay On American History
American History: Our Hope for the Future As I peer out the bus window I am amazed by the sight. A
large, oval shaped setup outlined with high cement pillars representing every state and territory who
participated. As I get off the bus and get a closer look I notice wreaths stationed at both the Pacific and
Atlantic sides, connecting everything in a form of celebration. In the center, water dances up into the
sky and trickles back into the pool, ready to go again. Old Glory can be seen greeting me to this happy
place. I walk around to each pillar, in awe at its greatness. A strong sense of pride is sent throughout
my body as I catch a glance at my home state. I think to myself I am a part of this... As I make my way

talk about it. As I walk my way through the museum, I cannot bring myself to speak. I read every
board, poster, and analyzed every picture. Soon I made my way around a corner and a room could be
seen up ahead. As I step into the room, it find it hard to take breaths. On both sides of the walk are

despair, sadness, and burning. I felt terrified. The Holocaust museum made a lasting impact on me. If
a memorial could affect me in such a way, I cannot even start to imagine what my grandfather had to

decades later. The history my grandfather faced not only impacted his future, but mine as well. I may

Pathology Of Pornography
CHAPTER 3 Abjection as a Pathological Source of Violence in Pinter It is a truth, universally
accepted, that man is a social animal. Man cannot live alone. This characteristic of man along with his
capacity to think, communicate and achieve his goals in an astute manner separates him from other
animals. Man is dependent on others from his birth until the time of his death for the fulfillment of his
physical and emotional needs. The primitive men formed associations on the basis of common likes,
dislikes, practices, customs, and most importantly on the basis of the inherent sexual drive to copulate
with the opposite gender. These associations led to the formation of a society which as defined by
R.M. Maciver is a web of social relationships (Society: An Introductory Analysis 5). Thus society
does not just comprise individuals, but it also includes the multifaceted patterns of the interactions and
relationships that arise among them. An important fact to be noted here is that man is not for the
society, but society is for man and for a society and its members to flourish and progress, there is a
need for favorable social, political and economic conditions. Any sharp deviation from these favorable
conditions leads to chaos and ultimately the disorganization of the society. Since it is man who forms
his associations and relationships and on a larger level the society, it is very important to understand
the working of the human mind and its impact on the functioning of the

The Music Of Guns N Roses
Guns N Roses is a heavy metal band that helped the rise of heavy metal as the mainstream genre in the
1980 s. Their music has a unique sound with influences from heavy metal and hair metal/glam metal
periods. One song that illustrates both of these musical influences is the song Welcome to the Jungle
on the album Appetite for Destruction .
The members of Guns N Roses got their start as a band in Los Angeles, California. At the time of their
band rising to fame, America was still in the transition of heavy metal becoming a mainstream genre
again. Although metal was present throughout the 1980 s it was not until the late 80 s when it achieved
mainstream success. The popular music genres at the time were hip hop, electronic music, soft rock,
alternative rock, and pop music. Country music was also a popular genre of music in the early 1980 s
but eventually got less popular. While Guns n Roses were building up their popularity it took nearly a
year to get the gigs they were looking for. In that year the odds were against the band. They had a hard
time when it came to getting gigs because ... a series of frenzied, violent shows landed the Gunners on
the shit list of everyone, including club owner, rival bands and the press everyone but the fans, who
grew in numbers with each passing gig, (Del, Axl Rose: The Rolling Stone Interview ). Once they had
a large fan base, Tom Zutaut noticed the bands popularity and decided to sign them to Geffen Records
in 1986. Even though

Abstract. The Packaging Process At Ninkasi Brewery Adds
Abstract
The packaging process at Ninkasi Brewery adds value to their end result that is delivering their best
quality craft brews. Processes are key elements to a business s ability to create and distribute products
that will meet the needs of their target market; therefore the need for industries to analyze specific
processes within their organizations is significant. This paper is an outline of understanding Ninkasi s
packaging and bottling process and how the brewery can apply quantitative and qualitative tools to
potentially reduce defects in this specific process.
Ninkasi Brewing Company: The Packaging Process
Organization Description
The organization I have chosen to analyze is Ninkasi Brewing Company. Back in 2005, neither ...

Secondly, Ninkasi is extremely community oriented and has a program known as Beer is Love, which
supports non profit doing work in five core categories: women, equality, recreation, the environment,
and arts and music. Lastly, I appreciate the company s goal to perpetuate better living and their
continued efforts to adopt more sustainable practices throughout the brewery. Overall, the company
has several valuable traits and I look forward to digging deeper and gaining new knowledge about the
company s operations.
Operation Description The operation in which I plan to explore is Ninkasi s packaging process. I
specifically plan to analyze the brewery s bottling line and the brewery s recent encounters for defects
in their packaging process such as; low fills, crooked labels, chipped, or broken bottles, and equipment
shut downs. First I will discuss how these problems can be identified. Second, I will apply quantitative
tools to the problems. Third, I will provide insights into how Ninkasi may use these tools to
potentially reduce defects in their packaging line.
The Bottling Line
Ninkasi s bottling line is capable of producing both 22 oz. and 12 oz. bottles and can package 22 oz.
bottles at a rate of 150 bottles per minute, and 12 oz. bottles at a rate of 250 bottles per minute. First,
the machine takes empty bottles and runs them through a rinser cleaning them inside and out to ensure
they are sent to the filler sanitized. Once the bottles are

Religious Opinions and Views on Abortion Essay
Religious Opinions and Views on Abortion
In examining religious opinions on abortion, one must find common ground on which to form a
foundation of comparison. With most of the religions to date, that common ground lies on the
argument of whether or not a fetus is an actual person. Some religions protest by saying a fetus isn t a
conscious being therefore there is no loss in doing away with it. But for those religions that do believe
there is a life or any spiritual being in a fetus, it is clearly a crime to have an abortion.
Through research an overall conclusion can be provided that most earlier religions, that is those before
1400 A.D., relied on the opinion of the doctor to determine whether abortion was right or ... Show

So from this we can safely say that Catholics view, and have always viewed, abortion as evil. Then
again, we are relying on something uncertain how you determine the humanity of a being. Clearly
Catholics do not view a fetus as a human being.
This being known, it doesn t make sense that a Catholic church should practice fetal baptisms, which
were practiced primarily in the 1700s. They were obviously practiced by churches with views much
less forward than McCarthy s. This is simply one instance where a religion contradicts itself:
McCarthy, an acclaimed Catholic theorist, claims that a fetus is not a human being. Yet fetal baptisms
are performed on miscarriages (Dombrowski 93). Miscarriages thought not fully developed, are
apparently human enough to undergo baptism and be saved by Jesus Christ.
Once again it is necessary to state that most of the religious opinions are based on when human life
begins. In the case of Hinduism, there is no acceptance of abortion. According to the Vedas, abortion
is a sinful activity. There is no question of when a fetus becomes a person. Or even when morality is
reached (when a baby is actually born). Abortion in Hinduism is evil in all cases,

The Marriage Contract By William Hogarth
William Hogarth THE MARRIAGE CONTRACT, from Marriage a la Mode, 1743 1745, Oil on
canvas, 69.9 x 90.8cm. National Gallery, London. The Marriage Contract interprets a disturbing story
about an arranged marriage that ends in murder/suicide. There are an additional five scenes displaying
this union and the tragic end the bride and groom. The story takes place in the mansion of Lord
Squanderfield. He is marrying his son off to the daughter of a very rich merchant. In the painting you
see the Lord with his foot bandaged up on a stool. The Lord is most likely suffering from gout,
implying that he drink too much alcohol and ate rich foods. Hogarth put this in the painting to show
greediness and overindulgence. The lord is also shown holding his

Behid the Headlines
To be a slave to others ideologies, is to give up your own sense of freedom and lie to your own self.
When our own self interest is put behind others, it makes us feel lost and uncertain in our own life. We
are not sure what to do with our lives. In life we are faced with many hard circumstances that are not
easy to overcome, but if we can reach back to our old roots we can free ourselves from our patternistic
lifestyles and pursue what we want to do. In the short story Behind the Headlines by Vidyut Aklujkar,
we see life through the main character Lakshmi s eyes. Her life has been taken over by her husband s
life and she is trapped living the same way for 12 years. Lakshmi s life can be a parallel to a news
story itself. When we first hear about breaking news, we don t know much about the story since new
information is coming out In this short story, when we first start reading we aren t given too much
information. As the news keeps covering the story, we are given more background on the event and all
the circumstances that led up to the event, and as the news reporters get to the end of the story, we are
finally given a conclusion that either makes us happy or sad. In this short story case, you are left
feeling happy that Lakshmi found her way out. When we are stuck in a rut and not able to take control
of our own life, we become lost. We when can overcome our circumstances and get away from our
daily conventions, we are able to find ourselves and become who we really

Compares and Contrast of the Statue of Memi and Sabu, with the Statue of Gudea
For this work, I am going to put side by side the two works and bring out their differences along their
resemblance. The two works have in common some peculiar resemblance like the era in which they
were produced, though being from different cultures and different time and space. Furthermore,
though the material and finish are almost alike, there is a sharp contrast in their context and content. 1

This statue is thus dedicated to follow their master in the other world and serve them faithfully. In
contrast, King Gudea was a mighty personage and according to believes prevailing in that times, like
most monarchs and kings, was believed to be immortal and it is seen in the inscription on the statue
clothes Gudea, the man who built the temple; may his life be long (metmuseum.org, n.d.)
The social position is clear in the stature, clothes and space of the statues. The Gudea statue feet does
not touch the ground, and his position for me indicate people in his front venerating him. The
multitude of statues and temples he has constructed is indicative of the fact that Gudea wanted his
image at all sight in his Kingdom. On the other side, I see more simplicity in the posture of Memi and
Sabu and though it is a funeral statue. The statue is more emotional and arouse sympathy and love to
it.

Critical Reasoning Self-Assessment
Self Assessment Practicing Strategic Thinking The Critical Reasoning course being offered with the
CSU Global curriculum has been an interesting discovery; the class contains a myriad of information
to both teach a student and more importantly engage a student in the art of critical reasoning. First the
class has provided a lot of extra information to help the students become better writers. Second the

avoiding fallacious information. Finally, the class teaches a student how to become a fair minded

Becoming a fair minded thinker takes a lot of practice and discipline, because one has to overcome
their egocentric thoughts and bias to objectively understand all views of a situation. Paul and Elder
(2012) describe it best:
Fair mindedness entails the predisposition to consider all relevant viewpoints equally, without
reference to one s own feelings or selfish interests, or the feelings or selfish interests of one s friends,
community, or nation. It implies adherence to intellectual standards (such as accuracy, sound logic,
and breadth of vision), uninfluenced by one s own advantage or the advantage of one s group (Paul
Elder, 2012, p.19).
This was the viewpoint that I had early on in this class, and it rings even more true now, than when I
originally described the importance. Since learning about the traits of a disciplined mind such as:
Intellectual integrity, intellectual humility, intellectual courage, intellectual empathy, and intellectual
fair mindedness (Paul Elder, 2012, p. 18), it has been a goal to practice fair mindedness thinking on a
daily basis; at work or at home, when a discussion requires more in depth discussion, it has helped to
ask objective, non biased questions that bore into the core of the issue and root out the true

The Rights And Nation By Gerald Friesen Essay
In his book, Citizens and Nation, Gerald Friesen first mentions the concept of imagined communities
as he states, Space had been restructured because the communication media had eliminated so many
of the inherited constraints of physical existence (Friesen 177). Thus, for Friesen, an imagined
community is constructed as communication technologies connect individuals across geographical
boundaries, therefore releasing the limitations of space. While Friesen s definition implies that a
technological intermediary is needed for the formation of imagined relations, his work, Citizens and
Nation works to prove that communities that are based on something other than face to face
communication, can, without technology, also be considered imagined . Moreover, using, Oral
Traditional and Screen Capitalist societies, two distinct time space configurations, this essay will
demonstrate how throughout history, the concept of Imagined Communities differed in its effect and
prevalence in Canadian life.
To begin, an analysis of Oral Traditional societies will work demonstrate that while per literate
communities were predominantly traditional, their connection to the land cultivated an imagined
community . Prior to the invention of print, Canadian aboriginals lived in an oral society where the
spoken word was the dominant form of communication. Because the transfer of information was
limited to face to face communication, oral societies, unlike imagined communities, could only

How Human Computer Interactions Incorporated Into Computer...
2. Purpose
The purpose of the authors is to introduce the capabilities of context aware design and give an insight
into how it can positively affect and benefit the user s lifestyle. The authors inform the audience of the
three types of context aware computer systems and uses prototype examples to clearly explain them to
an audience who would not be knowledgeable about this field. The article highlights how human
computer interactions incorporated into computer systems are continuously evolving to provide a
more personal, efficient and user friendly experience. This has further extended onto systems that
recognise contexts and situations allowing less user inputs and more about understanding and
analysing the user s preferences.
3. Key Information
3.1 Framework
Context aware design is the concept of computer systems being attentive of the user s setting or
context. It will recognise engagement and interactions from the user and model the situations to
accomplish a set task or purpose. The fundamental framework of context aware designs takes into
consideration a user s personal needs which may be affected by many factors such as habits, self
image, and issues of motivation. Thus, many questions are raised and answered in the planning
process regarding the purpose, intended audience, inputs and outputs required etc. to design such
technologies that are able to understand and interpret what the user s goals are. The prototype
examples exhibit endless possibilities and

found, no one has heard from her all day. My dad made me come home right away. When I got home
he ran over to me and wrapped his soft arms around me and held me so very closely. That life
changing day, has made my dad and I more closer. Since she has been gone, there hasn t been one day
that he hasn t been by my side. Not only is he always there for me he is also a very reliable person. In
our town of Manton, my dad has been a very flexible, helping, and a very patient community member.
Along with that, he has been a great role model for me. My father has been the host of the Bluegrass
Festival, Harvest Festival, and many more Community gatherings. He volunteers his own personal
time to help others that are in need. An example of this is his career. His career of being a pharmacist
changed from employee to boss very quickly. He helps others when they are in need of medicine or
have medical concerns during out of business hours. He makes time to deliver from five to ten pm on
his own time. When I watch him do all this community service, volunteer, and put others first, it
makes me do the same. That is why he is a very loving flexible, helping, patient, role model. For not
only me, but including with the rest of the citizens of Manton. When someone makes mistakes usually
there is a lot of disappointment. Perhaps you do something you re not supposed to, or you let your
sassiness out, or maybe you fail a test because you didn t study. Those

Why Is Ma Rainey Important
Gertrude Ma Rainey is a pivotal figure in the history of American music. She was the first person to
ever perform blues and the first internationally known African American female blues singer. Her
music acted as inspiration for many distinguished figures during the Harlem Renaissance, and
continues to influence contemporary music and art.
A single source of blues music cannot be traced, but Ma Rainey is rightfully credited with introducing
it to the world. Hence the reason she was dubbed as The Mother of the Blues . During an interview in
the 1930s, Ma told musicologist John Work, that she heard what would be called blues, for the first
time around 1902. She was in a small town in Missouri working a show at the time, and one morning
a local girl came into the tent singing about a man whom had left her. This new style of soulful music
drew in Ma Rainey so much she later had the girl teach her the song. Rainey performed the song as an
encore in a show soon after, earning a special place in the show, and marking the start of her career
(Jas Obrecht Archive).
Gertrude Pridgett was born in 1986 to tent performers Thomas Pridgett Sr. and Ella Allen Pridgett.
Both were said to had traveled around the south performing minstrel shows, which was the most
popular form of live comedy entertainment from 1840 to the early nineteenth century
(Biography.com). Because of her parents involvement, Gertrude had always been surrounded by show
business and always had a love for singing and

Weapons Used In The Civil War
The Civil War was one of the most significant wars that America fought in. The Civil War was fought
to free the African Americans from slavery. During this war you had brothers turning on brother
fighting for what they believed in. In the span of about six months eleven states seceded from the
Union and became the Confederate States of America this started the Civil War. As history shows war
is not a good thing but during wars technology seems to grow at an advanced rate the same can be said
for the Civil War. The weapons used before the Civil War were not as productive as the weapons used
in the end. The War caused scientists around the globe to start thinking of new ideas for guns. This
new technology like handguns that could shoot several ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other war fought was the Revolutionary War. The Revolutionary War was fought using the
technology used in the beginning of the Civil War. The Revolutionary war used the traditional smooth
barrel muskets. These guns were quite efficient for there own time period. These muskets had a max
range of two hundred and fifty yard but they could only shoot up to eighty yards somewhat accurately.
The older muskets also could only fire one shot at a time and even the best of soldiers could only
shoot a couple of shots a minutes. The Revolutionary War lasted eight long years battling for our
freedom and it had roughly twenty five thousand casualties. Civilwar.org tells us that, A casualty is a
military person lost through death, wounds, injury, sickness, interment, capture, or missing in action.
The Civil War was another war fought on American soil for freedom. The Civil War used the new
technology of rifling and minié ball and it was revolutionary. The Civil War was fought over a four
year span and accumulated right around six hundred and twenty thousand casualties. This was
devastating; the new technology was important to the advancement of firearm technology yet it had

Siddhartha Unity With Nature
Hermann Hesse s novel, Siddhartha, displays a vary of themes throughout the novel. The vital theme
in Siddhartha would be unity with nature. Unity with nature means to be one with. Throughout each
stage of his life, nature was right by his side providing physical and spiritual energy. The theme unity
with nature ambiguously guides Siddhartha on this mission for enlightenment.
To begin with, Siddharthaś journey for enlightenment was served by nature to guide him on his
spiritual path. For Example, Siddhartha embarks a relationship with the river. The river then teaches
him, Siddhartha, that all are one. The natural world connects all its features and inhabitants in one.

The Current State on Russian Orphans Essay
Every year approximately one thousand Russian orphans are adopted by American couples. As of
early 2012, President Vladmir Putin has called for a ban on all Americans adopting Russian children.
Due to intense relations between America and Russia and the increasing death and illness rate of
Russian children living in America, Russian officials have ceased adoption by American couples. By
denying access to Russian orphans, the government is bound to cause an increase in children with
mental disease and possibly prevent these children from prospering for their future.
In 2008 the first incident of an adopted Russians death occurred. Dima Yakovlev, or otherwise known
as Chase Harrison passed after his father had accidentally left him in the ... Show more content on

Along with the neglect that is pressed upon the children, the abuse rates in these homes are very high.
Many reports of abuse and even death have been brought to the media s attention over the past few
years. One popular case was of two nurses that came home to the orphanage after a night of drinking
to crying little ones. In an attempt to muffle the sounds of the cries the two women stuffed one child
into a tub with a blanket over him. The other ones were stuffed in covers and put into a closet. It was
not until the next morning when the next crew came in that the three children were found. Two had
severe injuries afterward and one child, the youngest died.
Because of harsh relationships between Russia and many other countries the Russian government has
put a ban on all adoptions by many other countries. Due to the use of children as a political tool, many
ethical and moral values and rights are being broken by Russian officials. Not only is this immoral to
couples who wish to adopt these children but to the children themselves as well. By preventing foreign
couples from adopting these children, the Russian government is holding back the orphans from a
better life. The homes that they are kept in while living in Russia are poorly equipped and the children
then suffer from mental and physical illnesses as a result of the orphanages.

Illusions and Realities in Ibsen s Plays The Wild Duck and Ghosts
In Ibsen s The Wild Duck, illusions and reality are set into a conflict within the story of a son s
personal desire to confront idealism. Throughout much of the play, the son, Greger, argues the value of
truth with the reluctant Dr. Relling. Relling insists on the importance of illusions, but fails to
discourage Greger s intentions and a play that begins as a comedy quickly turns into a tragedy because
of these conflicts. At the heart of the illusions in this play are the ways that people assume many roles
in a family, impersonating multiple ideals as ways for managing their relationships. This theme of
impersonation is also developed in Ibsen s Ghosts, where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the ordinary lives of the families in Ghosts and The Wild Duck are tales of infidelity,
corruption, greed, lust, disease, and other afflictions that characterize family secrets. For example, in
Ghosts, the mother, Mrs. Alving, reveals the ways she has protected her son Oswald from the truths of
her unhappy marriage. She tells her friend and priest, Manders, ...Yes, I was always swayed by duty
and consideration for others; that was why I lied to my son, year in and year out. Oh, what a coward I
have been (315).
Manders responds, You have built up a happy illusion in your son s mind, Mrs. Alving and that is a
thing you certainly ought not to undervalue, (315) echoing Dr. Relling s belief that illusions are
sometimes more than a question of reality. In both plays, the deeper questions are about whose reality
matters, and who may determine another person s reality.
Relling accuses Greger of having a plague of ...integrity fever; and then what s worse you are always
in a delirium of hero worship; you must always have something to adore, outside yourself, which
Greger agrees to, without considering the consequences of this claim (297). In fact, Greger s certainty
about the dangers of illusions provokes the young Hedvig into an emotional despair, and she kills
herself. The issues presented in this play are not about what is true, or false, but about the ways people
build their lives on the past. Hedvig s father, Hialmar,

Lewin s Change Management Model
Lewin s Change Management Model
Understanding the Three Stages of Change Unfreeze Change Refreeze.
iStockphoto/doram
Change is a common thread that runs through all businesses regardless of size, industry and age. Our
world is changing fast and, as such, organizations must change quickly too. Organizations that handle
change well thrive, whilst those that do not may struggle to survive.
The concept of change management is a familiar one in most businesses today. But, how businesses
manage change (and how successful they are at it) varies enormously depending on the nature of the
business, the change and the people involved. And a key part of this depends on how far people within
it understand the change process.
One of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to accept the change and contribute to making the change successful, people need to
understand how the changes will benefit them. Not everyone will fall in line just because the change is
necessary and will benefit the company. This is a common assumption and pitfall that should be
avoided.
Tip:
Unfortunately, some people will genuinely be harmed by change, particularly those who benefit
strongly from the status quo. Others may take a long time to recognize the benefits that change brings.
You need to foresee and manage these situations.
Time and communication are the two keys to success for the changes to occur. People need time to
understand the changes and they also need to feel highly connected to the organization throughout the
transition period. When you are managing change, this can require a great deal of time and effort and
hands on management is usually the best approach.
Refreeze
When the changes are taking shape and people have embraced the new ways of working, the
organization is ready to refreeze. The outward signs of the refreeze are a stable organization chart,
consistent job descriptions, and so on. The refreeze stage also needs to help people and the
organization internalize or institutionalize the changes. This means making sure that the changes are
used all the time; and that they are incorporated into everyday business. With a new sense of stability,
employees feel confident and comfortable with the new

Texas Tick Fever Research Paper
What became known as Texas tick fever probably arrived in North America sometime in the
seventeenth century carried by cattle brought by Spanish colonists from the West Indies. It was
transmitted by the cattle tick which required 200 or more frost free days per year for survival.
Therefore, its spatial extent was the southern states. Initially, southerners were not terribly concerned
about the disease since cattle was rarely a primary economic investment in the southern United States.
Antebellum Texas was an exception since it dominated the national cattle industry. By the 1850s
farmers in states such as Missouri were turning back cattle drives from Texas for fear of infecting their
herds. In some instances there were violent confrontations, assaulting and even killing some of the
cowboys. Eventually northern states intervened to protect their herds, instituting quarantine laws
against southern cattle. In 1892 the federal government delineated a quarantine line that followed the
northern border of permanent fever infestation. The accompanying regulations stated that cattle could
only be moved to northern markets between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of arsenic dips were adopted nationally in the 1910s. Arsenic was cheap and easy to use. It did
not cling to the cattle and did not adversely affect their health or appearance. Dipping provided an
effective way to eradicate the tick, but required the construction of expensive dipping vats. The
construction of vats, enforcement of quarantines, inspection of heards, and treatment of all stock in a
particular area all required a high level of cooperation between government agencies and farmers. This
cooperation did not always exist. Small scale and middling farmers resented the requirement to
expend money and effort to treat their cattle when they percieved no advantage and some very obvious
disadvantages (Strom

In Breast Cancer, The Estrogen-Estrogen Receptor Complex
In breast cancer, the estrogen estrogen receptor complex cause cell proliferation (Frank, 2013).
Hormone therapies can target the effects of hormones in two ways: 1) by stopping the production of
estrogen and testosterone, reducing their levels, and 2) by binding to the hormone receptor and
blocking the hormone from binding (Frank, 2013). In breast cancer, drugs such as Lupron prevent the
ovaries from making estrogen by blocking cues from the brain that regulate the ovaries (Frank, 2013).
In prostate cancer, Lupron works the same way to prevent the testes from producing testosterone
(Frank, 2013). Drugs such as tamoxifen (breast cancer) and flutamide (prostate cancer) bind to their
respective hormone receptors and bloc the hormone from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To even have a chance at success, health education programs must be implemented before the age of
14 (Williams, 1987). Health education programs are being implemented in schools that will teach
about the dangers of smoking and passive smoking (Williams, 1987). This is a preventative measure to
decrease the amount of people in society who are smoking and prevent children from picking up this
habit. Another health disparity is ethnic background. A study found that Asian women are referred for
late treatment for a breast lump compared to Caucasian women (Winship, 1997). Part of this disparity
is the disbelief that Asian women can/will develop breast cancer (Winship, 1997). Hospitals and
medical professionals also contribute to this disparity with ignorance towards minority cultures and
lack of interpreters (Winship, 1997). There must be changes implemented to medical and nursing
training as well (Winship, 1997). Medical manufacturers have been delayed with responding to the
needs of ethnic minorities such as a providing a variety of shades for prosthetics (Winship, 1997).
There is a need for strategically targeted educational material that will educate Asian women and
women of other ethnic backgrounds about the risks of breast cancer or even developing any form of
cancer (Winship, 1997). In prostate cancer, there is a very high incidence and mortality rate seen in
black Americans (Gilligan, 2005). There are major social

The Use Of Tone In Robert Browning s My Last Duchess
There is nothing more telling of an individual than the way they present themselves. Speech is an
incredibly powerful means of expression, and often gives deeper insight into who one is as a person.
My Last Duchess by Robert Browning explores the complexity of tone in a way that is both effective
and powerful. The poem is narrated by the Duke of Ferrara, who is speaking to an envoy about a
painting of his previous duchess. He recounts the memories behind the artwork in an ominous and
snide manner, giving the reader insight on the nature of their relationship. Tone is a major literary
element in the poem that not only paints the Duke as a monster, but also makes the piece more
effective. Browning utilizes subtle figurative language that is ... Show more content on

The irony in his tone is used primarily when the Duke postulates how his wife behaved around other
men. His sarcastic, demeaning speech shines through when he states she had a heart how shall I say?
too soon made glad (21 22). Not only does this line deliver verbal irony, it also gives insight on the
Duke s perception of his wife. Though he has no concrete evidence for her suspicious behavior, he
does not hesitate to passively critique her. Browning additionally develops this critical personality
when the Duke fantasizes about the gifts his wife received from other men. He mentions a bough of
cherries some officious fool broke in the orchard for her (27 28) and how this gift would draw from
her alike the approving speech (30). Though a gift of cherries is nothing significant, the Duke is
annoyed by it. He does not want his wife to thank the men, because her approving speech is too
generous and flirtatious. The image of the cherries from the orchard is something that the Duke s mind
curated. It s his imagination, and that s a technique Browning utilizes to emphasize the Duke s jealous
personality. The imagery itself is powerful, but when paired with the images created by the Duke s
tone, the poem gains even more

 Hair color is the axis service that generates other salon services and sales for hair care products.
 Demi and semi permanents registered a much higher growth and nearly double the overall category.
The above article clearly illustrates color is on an amazing growth track and your salon should
capitalize on this trend to in help increase sales and profits.
Another major trend is in the category of Hair Smoothing Treatments. Here is an excerpt from another
article:
The straightening and keratin treatment services sector has grown rapidly in the past two years, at a
burgeoning growth rate of approximately 25 to 30%. The straightening sector in U.S. salons is now
worth approximately $1.46 billion and is comprised of soft goods at $215 million, hard goods at $125
million (both at manufacturers dollars) and services at approximately $1.12 billion (at salon dollars).
These amazing gains only represents 2.5% of the total U.S. salon hair care market, of $59.25 billion
and while small, it is the fastest growth sector.
So I am sure you would all agree marketing programs should be in place to promote in demand
services, and others such as Hair Extensions if your salon does this as an add on service. This can be
done by incorporating these into your standard greetings, as we stated above, and can also be placed in
any print advertising you are currently doing by using a tag line below your name.

Breaking Bad Analysis
Breaking Bad Log 1 Vince Gilligan s Breaking Bad is a TV series about Walter White, a chemistry
teacher, who starts cooking Methamphetamine to provide money for his family. In an interview with
The New York Times, creator Vince Gilligan said the larger lesson of the series is that actions have
consequences . He elaborated on the show s philosophy: If religion is a reaction of man, and nothing
more, it seems to me that it represents a human desire for wrongdoers to be punished. I hate the idea
of Idi Amin living in Saudi Arabia for the last 25 years of his life. That galls me to no end. I feel some

  • 2. Henry Hallaway. World History Ii. Mr. Oto. 28 April 2017. Henry Hallaway World History II Mr. Oto 28 April 2017 Rough Draft The Iranian Hostage Crisis was an event that took place in the capital of Iran in November of 1979 that lasted a long four hundred and forty four days. What led up to the breaking point in the Hostage crisis happened fast and was a result of a bad tie between the people and government of Iran and the US involvement with Iran. During the crisis the US president Jimmy Carter had the military attempt rescues of the hostages. The Iranian Hostage crisis did not only cause tensions to flare between the US and Iran but also the crisis was a result of already weak ties between the two countries leading to a negative relationship in the years that followed. The backstory of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The leaders of both nations had a large impact on throughout the hostage crisis and even before the crisis had started. For instance Iran s leader at the time. After the shah of Iran entered the US for cancer treatment, Ayatollah Khomeini took over with his movement and had a very different approach to the hostage crisis than the United States president Jimmy Carter did. Khomeini wanted to show his strength the rest of the world while the US had nothing to prove but wanted to rescue the hostages. Carter later attempted a rescue which later failed and accomplished nothing for the US. On Iran s side Khomeini was in full support of the hostages being held in Iran because he believed that it showed part of the Iranian revolution. Ayatollah Khomeini also believed that was a put down to the American impact on Iran and their government. These two goals between each leader show the different attitudes and approach from each side. On Iran s side, they wanted to prove that they were a power in government and that they could cause big events to happen in the world. For the United states it was different, the US did not have anything to prove and just wanted the hostages to be free. The US did not want to cause a big scene either and it showed as ... • 3. The European Union s Democratic Deficit The European Union has greatly evolved over the decades since it has begun into a well evolved quasi state of over 28 countries, and over five hundred million citizens. The European Union has been regarded as a method to bring democratic stability and economic prosperity to less developed democracies in East and Central Europe. Although the European Union has a mandate to bring all of these standards, the European Union lacks these basic standards for their overall institution. This structural problem has given the European Union its own democratic deficit . The rise of the democratic deficit has arisen from many undemocratic characteristics of EU institutions, and a lack of a demos or a lack of a single socio cultural European identity. In order for a political body to remain legitimate, it must have the trust and support of the citizens it governs, and make changes for the continuation of its future. In other words, if the European Union does not take action to combat its democratic deficit, the future of the European Unions institution will be at risk. Another serious issue is the European Union has seen democratic backsliding of many Eastern European countries. This paper will discuss the major issues that the Democratic Deficit has caused for the European Union, and what possible reforms can be done to help fix the democratic deficit. The European Union is one of the world s greatest economic superpowers. Although the EU does not have the police or military strength ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Dance Rehearsal And Swing Class When I observed the dance rehearsal and technique classes, I saw interesting and informative keynotes. The technique class that I went to was a Beginning Lindy and Swing class. The rehearsal class that I watched was a Choreography Three class. Even if the two types of dance classes were very different, they still had little bits and pieces that were similar and incorporated important concepts that coincided with both of the two classes. Before this class, I had never seen a Beginning Lindy and Swing technique class before, nor a Choreography Three class. In general, I had never seen an instructor so passionate about expressing and teaching their craft to their students. I chose to observe the Beginning Lindy and Swing class first and foremost, because it was the only class that I could watch that did not overlap with my personal and academic schedule. The second reason why I chose this class was because, I had the notion that this genre of dance class would be interesting and historical to watch. This dance is also bold and pungent to look at. This style of class is interesting because the dance choreography has multiple kicks and jumps which are repeated consecutively throughout the performance. The reason I choose to watch the choreography three class is because I wanted to see the students design their own choreography, and observe how it presented cohesively to the audience. In the technique class I expected to see male and female students in Lindy shoes and wearing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Importance Of Freedom In America Freedom meant multiple things for the people who had endured and survived enslavement in America. Freedom meant education, being with family, church organizing, voting, and equal rights as white people. Former slaves informed slave owners that their devotion and loyalty never reflected their true feelings. As slavery ended families were able to reunite. Freedom also meant land. Special field order #15 was issued on January 16, 1865 by General William T. Sherman. A 30 mile tract of land was set aside by the military directive, this land was along the Atlantic coast from Charleston, South Carolina, 245 miles south to Jacksonville, Florida. Sherman reserved this land for black families as white owners just abandoned the land. The Port Royal Experiment was an effort by northern white missionaries, educators, and businessmen in the Sea Islands near Beaufort, South Carolina, to transform former slaves into educated, reliable and industrious wage earners. Congress established the Bureau of Refugees, Freedman, and Abandoned Lands in February 1865 to assist black and white Southerners left destitute by the Civil War. The South Homestead Act was passed by Congress in 1866, this set aside over three million acres of land for former slaves and loyal white Southerners to farm following the Civil War. In 1866 bureau officials tried to force freedmen to sign labor contracts with white landowners. Black men who refused to sign could be arrested. The most important institution among ... • 8. Pathology Of Pornography CHAPTER 3 Abjection as a Pathological Source of Violence in Pinter It is a truth, universally accepted, that man is a social animal. Man cannot live alone. This characteristic of man along with his capacity to think, communicate and achieve his goals in an astute manner separates him from other animals. Man is dependent on others from his birth until the time of his death for the fulfillment of his physical and emotional needs. The primitive men formed associations on the basis of common likes, dislikes, practices, customs, and most importantly on the basis of the inherent sexual drive to copulate with the opposite gender. These associations led to the formation of a society which as defined by R.M. Maciver is a web of social relationships (Society: An Introductory Analysis 5). Thus society does not just comprise individuals, but it also includes the multifaceted patterns of the interactions and relationships that arise among them. An important fact to be noted here is that man is not for the society, but society is for man and for a society and its members to flourish and progress, there is a need for favorable social, political and economic conditions. Any sharp deviation from these favorable conditions leads to chaos and ultimately the disorganization of the society. Since it is man who forms his associations and relationships and on a larger level the society, it is very important to understand the working of the human mind and its impact on the functioning of the ... It s true that, in the warehouse, you tried getting rid of as much evidence as possible, Hinata straightened his back, his eyes still locked on Komaeda, but your cottage was a different story. • 10. The Music Of Guns N Roses Guns N Roses is a heavy metal band that helped the rise of heavy metal as the mainstream genre in the 1980 s. Their music has a unique sound with influences from heavy metal and hair metal/glam metal periods. One song that illustrates both of these musical influences is the song Welcome to the Jungle on the album Appetite for Destruction . The members of Guns N Roses got their start as a band in Los Angeles, California. At the time of their band rising to fame, America was still in the transition of heavy metal becoming a mainstream genre again. Although metal was present throughout the 1980 s it was not until the late 80 s when it achieved mainstream success. The popular music genres at the time were hip hop, electronic music, soft rock, alternative rock, and pop music. Country music was also a popular genre of music in the early 1980 s but eventually got less popular. While Guns n Roses were building up their popularity it took nearly a year to get the gigs they were looking for. In that year the odds were against the band. They had a hard time when it came to getting gigs because ... a series of frenzied, violent shows landed the Gunners on the shit list of everyone, including club owner, rival bands and the press everyone but the fans, who grew in numbers with each passing gig, (Del, Axl Rose: The Rolling Stone Interview ). Processes are key elements to a business s ability to create and distribute products that will meet the needs of their target market; therefore the need for industries to analyze specific processes within their organizations is significant. This paper is an outline of understanding Ninkasi s packaging and bottling process and how the brewery can apply quantitative and qualitative tools to potentially reduce defects in this specific process. Secondly, Ninkasi is extremely community oriented and has a program known as Beer is Love, which supports non profit doing work in five core categories: women, equality, recreation, the environment, and arts and music. Lastly, I appreciate the company s goal to perpetuate better living and their continued efforts to adopt more sustainable practices throughout the brewery. Overall, the company has several valuable traits and I look forward to digging deeper and gaining new knowledge about the company s operations. Operation Description The operation in which I plan to explore is Ninkasi s packaging process. I specifically plan to analyze the brewery s bottling line and the brewery s recent encounters for defects in their packaging process such as; low fills, crooked labels, chipped, or broken bottles, and equipment shut downs. First I will discuss how these problems can be identified. Second, I will apply quantitative tools to the problems. Third, I will provide insights into how Ninkasi may use these tools to potentially reduce defects in their packaging line. The Bottling Line Ninkasi s bottling line is capable of producing both 22 oz. and 12 oz. bottles and can package 22 oz. bottles at a rate of 150 bottles per minute, and 12 oz. bottles at a rate of 250 bottles per minute. • 12. Religious Opinions and Views on Abortion Essay Religious Opinions and Views on Abortion In examining religious opinions on abortion, one must find common ground on which to form a foundation of comparison. With most of the religions to date, that common ground lies on the argument of whether or not a fetus is an actual person. Some religions protest by saying a fetus isn t a conscious being therefore there is no loss in doing away with it. But for those religions that do believe there is a life or any spiritual being in a fetus, it is clearly a crime to have an abortion. Through research an overall conclusion can be provided that most earlier religions, that is those before 1400 A.D., relied on the opinion of the doctor to determine whether abortion was right or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So from this we can safely say that Catholics view, and have always viewed, abortion as evil. Then again, we are relying on something uncertain how you determine the humanity of a being. Clearly Catholics do not view a fetus as a human being. This being known, it doesn t make sense that a Catholic church should practice fetal baptisms, which were practiced primarily in the 1700s. They were obviously practiced by churches with views much less forward than McCarthy s. This is simply one instance where a religion contradicts itself: McCarthy, an acclaimed Catholic theorist, claims that a fetus is not a human being. Yet fetal baptisms are performed on miscarriages (Dombrowski 93). Miscarriages thought not fully developed, are apparently human enough to undergo baptism and be saved by Jesus Christ. Once again it is necessary to state that most of the religious opinions are based on when human life begins. In the case of Hinduism, there is no acceptance of abortion. According to the Vedas, abortion is a sinful activity. There is no question of when a fetus becomes a person. Or even when morality is reached (when a baby is actually born). Compares and Contrast of the Statue of Memi and Sabu, with the Statue of Gudea For this work, I am going to put side by side the two works and bring out their differences along their resemblance. The two works have in common some peculiar resemblance like the era in which they were produced, though being from different cultures and different time and space. Furthermore, though the material and finish are almost alike, there is a sharp contrast in their context and content. 1 Form The statue of Memi and Sabu is a wonderful art work that portrays a couple in an intimate posture which show how Egyptian were romantic. The social position is clear in the stature, clothes and space of the statues. The Gudea statue feet does not touch the ground, and his position for me indicate people in his front venerating him. The multitude of statues and temples he has constructed is indicative of the fact that Gudea wanted his image at all sight in his Kingdom. Becoming a fair minded thinker takes a lot of practice and discipline, because one has to overcome their egocentric thoughts and bias to objectively understand all views of a situation. Paul and Elder (2012) describe it best: Fair mindedness entails the predisposition to consider all relevant viewpoints equally, without reference to one s own feelings or selfish interests, or the feelings or selfish interests of one s friends, community, or nation. It implies adherence to intellectual standards (such as accuracy, sound logic, and breadth of vision), uninfluenced by one s own advantage or the advantage of one s group (Paul Elder, 2012, p.19). This was the viewpoint that I had early on in this class, and it rings even more true now, than when I originally described the importance. Since learning about the traits of a disciplined mind such as: Intellectual integrity, intellectual humility, intellectual courage, intellectual empathy, and intellectual fair mindedness (Paul Elder, 2012, p. 18), it has been a goal to practice fair mindedness thinking on a daily basis; at work or at home, when a discussion requires more in depth discussion, it has helped to ask objective, non biased questions that bore into the core of the issue and root out the true ... • 17. The Rights And Nation By Gerald Friesen Essay In his book, Citizens and Nation, Gerald Friesen first mentions the concept of imagined communities as he states, Space had been restructured because the communication media had eliminated so many of the inherited constraints of physical existence (Friesen 177). Thus, for Friesen, an imagined community is constructed as communication technologies connect individuals across geographical boundaries, therefore releasing the limitations of space. While Friesen s definition implies that a technological intermediary is needed for the formation of imagined relations, his work, Citizens and Nation works to prove that communities that are based on something other than face to face communication, can, without technology, also be considered imagined . Moreover, using, Oral Traditional and Screen Capitalist societies, two distinct time space configurations, this essay will demonstrate how throughout history, the concept of Imagined Communities differed in its effect and prevalence in Canadian life. To begin, an analysis of Oral Traditional societies will work demonstrate that while per literate communities were predominantly traditional, their connection to the land cultivated an imagined community . • 22. Why Is Ma Rainey Important Gertrude Ma Rainey is a pivotal figure in the history of American music. She was the first person to ever perform blues and the first internationally known African American female blues singer. Her music acted as inspiration for many distinguished figures during the Harlem Renaissance, and continues to influence contemporary music and art. A single source of blues music cannot be traced, but Ma Rainey is rightfully credited with introducing it to the world. Hence the reason she was dubbed as The Mother of the Blues . During an interview in the 1930s, Ma told musicologist John Work, that she heard what would be called blues, for the first time around 1902. She was in a small town in Missouri working a show at the time, and one morning a local girl came into the tent singing about a man whom had left her. This new style of soulful music drew in Ma Rainey so much she later had the girl teach her the song. Rainey performed the song as an encore in a show soon after, earning a special place in the show, and marking the start of her career (Jas Obrecht Archive). Gertrude Pridgett was born in 1986 to tent performers Thomas Pridgett Sr. and Ella Allen Pridgett. Both were said to had traveled around the south performing minstrel shows, which was the most popular form of live comedy entertainment from 1840 to the early nineteenth century (Biography.com). Tip: Unfortunately, some people will genuinely be harmed by change, particularly those who benefit strongly from the status quo. Others may take a long time to recognize the benefits that change brings. You need to foresee and manage these situations. Time and communication are the two keys to success for the changes to occur. People need time to understand the changes and they also need to feel highly connected to the organization throughout the transition period. When you are managing change, this can require a great deal of time and effort and hands on management is usually the best approach. Initially, southerners were not terribly concerned about the disease since cattle was rarely a primary economic investment in the southern United States. Antebellum Texas was an exception since it dominated the national cattle industry. By the 1850s farmers in states such as Missouri were turning back cattle drives from Texas for fear of infecting their herds. In some instances there were violent confrontations, assaulting and even killing some of the cowboys.
