Immigration Is Not New Topic
Immigration is not new topic in history. Human beings always move to new places to find resources to
survive in this world. My family is a clear example of migration. Some of my family immigrated from
Michoacán to Mexico State, some others decided to immigrate to the USA. My generation is the
fourth in the USA, my great grand parents came to USA in Braceros program, but my generation is the
first to establish USA as their home. How many people do they have similar situation, or a history of
migration? In this paper, I will discuss what is missing in The immigration equation. Immigration is a
sensitive problem in this country where the majority population has a history of immigration.
However, when you are thinking more than 11 million undocumented immigrants live in the USA,
then we have the obligation to talk about what it is happening of this number, what negative reactions
confront and other problems are facing. Moreover, we need to add the other millions whom born of
immigrants, permanent residents, or people who follow the naturalization process, who are considerate
second class citizens was mentioned by Kevin R Jhonson. The complexity of immigration has always
been considerate the problems of economy even though it does not have a way of how immigrant
cause a severe problem. Borjas analysis is curious because he is an immigrant who said other
immigrants hurt the economy of the USA. His reason is immigrants compete with US disadvantage
citizens and take their

Babe Didrikson s Accomplishments
Babe Didrikson
As Babe Didrikson said, All of my life I have always had the urge to do things better than anybody
else. Babe had been playing sports since she was a child. She was always determined to be the best.
She used every minute she had to practice. With great accomplishments ranging from winning several
events in the Olympics, to founding the LPGA and breaking world records, Babe Didrikson is
undoubtedly one of the world s greatest athletes.
In 1932 Babe went the Olympics (Wallace). She won a gold medal in the javelin throwing contest with
a score of 143 feet ( Bio.com ). She also set a world record and got a gold medal in the 80 meter

greatest single achievement in a series of events in the history of athletics. Babe s throw stood as a
testament to her strength and persistence. Babe Didrikson s fantastic achievements have made her one
of the best athletes in history. Her world records have set an example for all women athletes. Her
medals have shown that anyone can be great. She also shows that athlete are responsible people who

Bravehearts Film Techniques
Bravehearts
Mel Gibson is Bravehearts director as well as the main star. This is a well made movie that I really
enjoyed. The movie Bravehearts is an amazing account of one Scotsman that decided to fight the
oppression of the English to gain his freedom. With this one mans vision an awesome movie is
created. There is a scene for just about all audiences. There are war scenes, romantic scenes, and who
could forget dramatic scenes.
At the beginning of the movie we see William Wallace the main character as a young boy. The setting
is a small cottage in Scotland. His father and brother are about to embark on a trip to battle. As the
townspeople cart the two dead bodies back to the cottage, the entire tone of the movie is set. ... Show

The two make eye contact and an immediate flame ignites.
This is the first example of romance that the movie shows. As the young lovers are drawn to each
other they decide to elope. This is the beginning of the end of the calm William. As the town guards
see the lovers interacting, they decide to rape the young women. Of course the minute the first scream
is let out William strikes down the guards one at a time. His gives his young wife a horse and tells her
ride off while he makes his own tracks. His wife is captured, and in order to attract William, her throat
is cut and the war begins.
The next scene that is presented is a rather solemn faced William on horseback. Whack! the first guard
is struck down with one blow. William is on a rampage for the murder of his beloved wife. The guards
are not able to withhold Will as well as the other townspeople. The fortress is overtaken and the noble
who sliced Williams wife throat is given the same death.
The King of England has just united France with his forces and his son will soon take over. The son is
a nuisance and is unable to rule the Kingdom properly. As William rallied the people and took one fort
after another, my heart just would not stop beating. The King proves his inability to rule with the
decisions he makes. My pulse started to race and my mind was constantly working. If you are the type
that likes medieval war, this movie is for you. In every scene someone is either

MP3 and Ogg file formats comparison
MP3 file format
There exist numerous types aural files. Thus, if you desire to alter the sound formats or replicate the
files so that they become playable in different audio players, you ought to be knowledgeable with
various file types. These file types can be differentiated through examination of the file name
extension. With that in mind, there are compacted audio file types which are preferred by many when
downloading, copying, and storing. MP3(.mp3) and OGG(.ogg) are two of the frequently used
compressed audio file types. The types are christened as lossy compression audio formats. MPEG 1

file to be compressed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Between the two formats, MP3 is more common than OGG Vorbis.
Regarding sound quality, OGG Vorbis is better than MP3.
MP3 is restricted by copyrights while OGG Vorbis is free for all.
In MP3 the bit rate of compression remains unchanged and cannot be varied while in OGG Vorbis the
compression bit rate can be varied according to your requirements.
Fraunhofer Gesellschaft and Thompson Multimedia developed the MP3 while the Viph.Org
Foundation created OGG Vorbis.
So between MP3 vs. Ogg Which Should You go for?
Now that you know the difference between the two formats which one is best for you?Owing to its
early introduction into the world of file sharing, MP3 became tremendously fashionable. Its
recognition is based on the reality that the phrase MP3 was synonymic with Compressed audio. The
word MP3 is often used by some people to mean any aural file. On the other hand, the OGG Vorbis
file format is increasingly becoming trendy among developers due to its better quality sound and free
for all code base. Nowadays, the hardware and toy makers are employing OGG Vorbis in the encoding
of their audio files to evade MP3 patent problems and attain well organized compression. Though,
most of the portable music players or MP3 players do not support the format of OGG Vorbis. The
game development industry highly favors the OGG Vorbis format as it has been significantly used in

Begin by weighing a 125 mL Erlenmeyer flask and recording the result. Next, add approximately 2 g
of salicylic acid to the Erlenmeyer flask. Then, record the new mass of the Erlenmeyer and the
salicylic acid. Next, inside of the hood add 5 mL of acetic anhydride and 10 drops of 85% phosphoric
acid. Stir the mixture with a stirring rod. Next, place the flask in a boiling water bath and stir until the
solid dissolves. Next, remove the flask from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature. Then,
add 20 drops of water to the flask. Next, add 25 mL of cold water to the flask and place it in an ice
bath for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, to collect the Aspirin crystals, add a piece of filter paper to a
Büchner filtration apparatus. Then, fit the funnel snuggly in the rubber washer of the filter flask. Next,
turn on the water aspirator and pour the aspirin product slowly onto the center of the filter paper. Then,
push down gently on the funnel to suction out the water from the aspirin product. After the crystals
have formed on the filter paper, obtain a weight boat. Record the mass of the weight boat. Next, use a
spatula to transfer the crystals onto the weigh boat. Then, after the crystals have dried, record the mass

Sepoy Rebellion Research Paper
Although some of the rumors that caused the Sepoy Rebellion may not have been true, the belief that
the British were trying to modify Indian culture caused the Sepoy Rebellion. The sepoys felt that their
religion was being severely disrespected their religions. Sir Colin Campbell, the leader of the British
forces during the Sepoy Rebellion said that Injudicious attempts to convert Sepoys to Christianity
[were] made, and [the Sepoys believed] that they were to be converted by compulsion. . . . The sepoys
probably became enraged when they believed that they were going to be forced to convert, and this
presumably contributed to the Sepoy Rebellion. Campbell also seems to have a reliable view of what
happened during the Sepoy Rebellion, as he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. Joseph Coohill, a modern historian stated that Lord Dalhousie, Governor General of India,
introduced the so called Doctrine of Lapse, a policy which allowed the British East India Company to
extend its control into Indian territory when a native ruler died.... Forcing Indians to have British
rulers could have sowed discord between the British and sepoys. Coohill does not seem to have any
ulterior motives, and even wrote an article in History Today called Indian Voices from the 1857
Rebellion , which presumably means he is sympathetic towards the sepoys. This could potentially
affect his point of view, but it doesn t appear to Sayyid Ahmed Khan, a Muslim scholar and noble who
was initially loyal to the British, and then went on to blame British policies and mistakes for the Sepoy
Rebellion, recalled that The evils which resulted to India from the non admission of natives into the
Legislative Council of India were various......Whatever law was passed was misconstrued by men who
had no share in the framing of it. At length the Hindustanis fell into the habit of thinking that all the
laws were passed with a view to degrade and ruin them... Khan is describing the frustration Indians
felt with their ruler who did not represent them, but instead represented England. This frustration
seemed to build up until the Sepoy Rebellion.. Khan s initial support of the British could be because of
his high status, but paints a good picture of the distrust between the Indians and the British. When the
Sepoy Rebellion happened, there was an attempt to make the last remaining Mughal Empire leader to
be in control of all of India. This showed that Indians did not want to be ruled by the British, but
instead wanted to be ruled by their own

The Water Bottling Industries Put Out False Advertising
Interests/Issues
Techniques of Neutralization (Pg. 200, Chapter 8) Ways of thinking or rationalizing that helps people
deflect society norms.
This week s video called Tapped brings up the world wide issue of water and the waste that come with
it. Bottled water brings many concerns to the table, including health and environmental issues. One of
the main issues that I found interesting was how much the water bottling industries put out false
advertising. Did you ever look on a bottle of water and see beautiful mountains or a crystal clear
stream? Well, you guessed it... false advertising. The video explained to us that not only does most of
the bottled water that we drink come from a tap but it also is not tested the way that it is advertised.
The bottled water that everyone is drinking has most likely only been ran through a filter, no testing
for chemicals or bacteria has been done. We are led to believe that this water is more safe and/or better
for us due to the very convincing messages written on the bottles. When in reality the water that
comes from your kitchen sink is much better for you, unless otherwise noted. Aquafina water has one
of the biggest false advertisement labels. The bottles label consists of a clean blue label showing
images of snow capped mountains and the claim, Pure water, perfect taste. This leads to the incorrect
conclusion that Aquafina is sourced from mountain spring water. When is reality, Aquafina come from
a tap. In 2007 PepsiCo (the brand

It is said that man, to survive, has always needed something or some belief to hold on; be it science,
religion or magic. Man without a belief lacks hope (Walker, 1997). Lack of hope makes a man
vulnerable to unforeseen circumstances. To avoid this vulnerability man has been holding onto
different belief systems.

The person s desire to eliminate oppression of the individual s minority group becomes an important
motivation of the individual s behavior, which ultimately may be motivated by the affective feelings
of guilt, shame, and anger (Sue Sue, 2008).
The next stage in the R/CID model is Introspection. The individual begins to discover that this deep
seeded hatred of the dominate group is psychologically draining. Moreover, the energy used to hate
the dominate group is not conducive to their understanding neither themselves nor their own racial
cultural group. The resistance and immersion stage tends to be a reaction against the dominant culture
and is not proactive in allowing the individual to use all energies to discover who or what he or she is.
The minority shows concerns for the basis of the self appreciation. Self definition in the previous stage
tends to be reactive (against White racism), and a need for positive self definition in a proactive sense
emerges.
The minority individual experiences feelings of discontent and discomfort with group views that may
be quite rigid in the resistance and immersion stage. A Latino individual that may form a deep
relationship with a person outside their culture may experience considerable pressure from his or her
culturally similar peers to break off the relationship because that person is the enemy. However, the

A city is one of the most crucial aspects of American life, but why is this? Without any major cities,
our country would not be where it is today. The backbone of new technology, a stronger economy and
the majority of population lies within the urban jungles of America. A study from The Brookings
Institution shows that the highest concentration of patents and inventors are located in cities near top
universities and research centers. So it makes sense that with a high density of people in a certain area,
some of them will ultimately invent something useful. For example, steam powered heat that could

The Theme Of Violence In Ancient Greek Society
According to the Odyssey, and Agamemnon, ancient Greeks value violence as a way of maintaining
their society because the stories showcase how violence functions in ancient Greece polis system. The
stories indicate the structure of ancient Greece society and the ideal principles that held the people
together. Because works of Homer and works of Aeschylus represent a different period of ancient
Greek culture, the form of society differs. However, the fundamental principles of ancient Greek
society remain similar. Regardless of what period of ancient Greece, the admiration of violence by the
ancient Greek can be seen from both Homer and Greek Tragedy. The foundation of ancient Greek
society is built upon violence based democratic or military communities. Slavery system showcases
the violent relationship between different groups of people in a city. The hardship and bloodiness of

Tragedy also demonstrated the importance of fate that prophet and oracles play a large role in the

Agamemnon and his family; despite the oracle sounds unbelievable, it came to reality at the end of the

Cassandra was also murdered by Clytaemestra, which stands as another act of violence. The stories in

Analysis Of The Film Cache ( French For Hidden And Racial...
Introduction This essay aims to analyze the representation of characters in the film Caché (French for
hidden , 2005) and the racial issues between the colonizer and the colonized through the
psychoanalysis of colonialism and post colonialism. I will first give a synopsis of the film. Directed by
Michael Haneke, Caché presents the story of a bourgeois, middle aged French man, George, who
receives anonymous tapes. This makes him recall his childhood memory of an Algerian boy, Majid.
Majid s parents worked in George s house but died in the massacre on 17th Oct., 1961 when the
French police killed more than 200 Algerians. After Majid lost his parents, George s parents originally
planned to adopt him. However, as George was the only child in his family, he was afraid of letting
Majid enter the family. He set up a lie by saying his father wanted Majid to kill a rooster. George then
claimed to his parents that Majid did this to scare him; therefore George s parents sent Majid to an
orphanage. About forty years later, George, who has grown up and become a famous TV talk show
host, lives with his wife and son in the city. One day his wife, Anne, receives a videotape recording
their current home for several hours. They receive even more tapes with different recordings and
threatening drawings of an odd, curly haired little man and a rooster with its head cut off. George tries
to find out who is behind this and finds Majid. He accuses Majid of sending him the tapes as a threat;

Essay On Hume s Views On Miracles
Hume s View of Miracles Much of Hume s audience, both when it wrote it and in contemporary times,
is religious, or at least surrounded by a culture that is largely religious. As such, Hume spends Section
X of An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding discussing miracles. Miracles are contradictory
with his empiricist worldview, so he devotes the chapter to arguing why we should not believe in
them. Hume defines a miracle as a violation of the laws of nature. 1 That is, a miracle departs from
our uniform experience of what we are used to witnessing in nature. (If it were just a normal event,
then we would not notice it as a special event, a miracle.)2 Our Belief in Miracles Hume lays the
groundwork by saying that our commitment to our beliefs should be proportionate to the quality of
evidence that supports that belief.3 Given any two conflicting beliefs, we should choose the belief that
has the highest probability. For example, if there were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, while there is evidence for miracles in the form of testimony, the uniform experience of
natural laws trumps testimony. Because no testimony is sufficient to establish a miracle, we have a
uniform experience against every miraculous event. 12 In other words, whenever there is a miraculous
claim, an actual miracle has the lowest probability of being true, while any naturalistic explanation has
a higher probability of being true, because a naturalistic explanation fits with our uniform experience.
Therefore, Hume concludes that uniform experience amounts to a proof. . . against the existence of
any miracle, meaning that we can rest assured that all miraculous claims are

The Violence Of Gustavo Diaz Ordaz
Gustavo Diaz Ordaz became president of the United States of Mexico in 1964, years before the
massacre, that took place in October 2, 1968 at la plaza de las Tres Culturas in Mexico city, better
known as Tlatelolco Massacre ( Mexico s 1968 Massacre ). It was supposed to be an unarmed
peacefull protest, but at sunset the police and military forces equipped with armored cars and tanks
surrounded the plaza and began firing into the open crowd. The police fire hit not only the protestors
but also innocent bystanders.
It all started when the students decided to organize and protest against the violence exerted by the riot
police. During the previous months, Mexico City witnessed a series of student protests and rallies
against repression and violence. ( Mexico s 1968 Massacre ) for example on August 13, a large
demonstration of around 150,000 participants gathered to protest, a protest that ended outside of the
palace of governor. On 13 September the march of silence took place, this was a protest of more than
250,000 people, where they all remained silent to prevent the police put the pretext of provocation by
students ( Movimiento estudiantil de 1968 ).
This was also lead by student movements that were breaking out all over the world including: France,
Germany, Italy, Czechoslovakia, Argentina, Japan and the United States.

Mexico was the former president Diaz Ordaz. Diaz

Essay On The Story Of Thong
Upon first impression, Hunk seemed to be sweet, innocent and caring. A majority of that assumption
was correct, but not the entirety of it. Lance would be the first of the Voltron team to discover that.
And it wasn t by accident. The larger boy was a valuable asset to the team, and they were aware of
that, but it didn t stop them from wanting more than just a friendship with the kind boy. Lance, being
flirtatious and brash, was the first one to actually attempt to pursue Hunk, which is how he landed in
his current situation. Predicament might have been a better word for it. See, it was nearing 6:30 pm,

A simple scan of the table revealed that most of the guests were preoccupied with their own
conversations. The buzzing hadn t relented. The appetizer and main course passed in a blur of iron

busy with lively chatter, but meanwhile Lance was sure he would explode. When the group finally
made it to dessert, that was when things truly started to get bad. Not a full minute after they had gotten
their helpings the toy in Lance s ass got a lot more intense. The blue paladin jerked forwards with a
moan as his eyes rolled up. He was positive that it was on Its highest setting, there was no way it wasn

traces of conversation had fizzled out and every pair of eyes was on him. Hunk wore a satisfied smirk.
Lance flushed an impossibly dark shade of red before jumping to his feet. I m not feeling too good, I

to get to his room so he could touch himself already, the pleasure close to unbearable. His pants had

overwhelmingly intense, it got better, faster, harder. His knees buckled and his eye filled

A Research On Studying And Learning And Knowledge Obtained...
Research is a goal an individual aims to discover, learn, observe, and ultimately write about. It is a
practice of pursuing the process of discovering knowledge on a specific topic. I once told someone
what I find to be intriguing to me and they also told me what they unearth to be fascinating. They
appear to have squandered too much time on the issue, but, I was young then and seem to be new to
his universe of knowledge. Their advice was doing a research in order to uncover everything about the
subject until I feel I am the expert. That wasn t all, and then I was to study and discover some more
knowledge with regard to it. I was quite frustrated with that advice because I would like to spend only
a week on studying. Will, here I am, finally endeavoring to carry out that concept of research and
discovery through studying and learning some more on the subject I would like to become an expert
on. Research in general supports the same concept of learning and knowledge obtained from constant
education. Advance research in graduate level has a set standard, strategy, and methodology to keep
abreast. Once the individual has discovered what topic holds his/her interest, after that comes the
selection of research methodology. This is the planning stage of the process. The researcher has two
options, the qualitative or quantitative approach. Simply, the researcher can choose to apply both
methodologies in a mix method or can choose to use each, individually. Each of

Analysis Of The Poem My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke
My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke is an intriguing poem because of its ambiguity. One could see
this as a poem about a child having a playful dance with his dad before bedtime but I see it as a poem
about a child being abused by his father because he is an alcoholic. A dance is supposed to symbolize
an expression of joyful spirituality and love especially the waltz. Specifically, the title may give the
impression that this dance between father and son is a smooth romantic dance but some words and
phrases bring an entirely difference image to the mind.
The first stanza sets the tone for the seriousness of the poem. The whiskey on your breath (Roethke, 1)
already sets the tone for the rest of the poem. The boy who has grown up to remember this experience
with his father is putting emphasis on the fact that his father may have been a drunk. He remembers
his dad s breath smelling like alcohol and this plays a major role in the entire experience itself. The
speaker then goes on to say, Could make a small boy dizzy (2) which tells me that the smell of alcohol
on his breath was so strong it made him feel lightheaded and woozy. The father must have been
drinking heavily and the fact that it made him sick tells the reader that he may not have just gone out
for an occasional drink. However, even though the boy felt sick he still held on to his father closely,
But I hung on like death (3) implying he was so scared all he could do was hang on to his father. His

It s Time for a Universal Code of Ethics for Public Relations
Contemporary public relations is a twentieth century phenomenon that evolved from the press gentry
of the 1800s. These old time press agents played upon the credulity of the public in its desire to be
entertained, whether or not they were deceived. Advertisements and press releases were often
exaggerated to the point of being complete falsifications. In promoting an attraction, press agents
dropped multitudes of tickets on the newspaper editors desk along with the releases. Voluminous
publicity for the attraction usually resulted, and reporters, editors, and their families flocked to the free
entertainment with scant regard for any ethical constraints (Wilcox, Ault, Agee ... Show more content

Roots such as these have created the skepticism with which the public views the field of public
relations. Furthermore, it is the duty of practitioners to create positive images for businesses and
organizations. Therefore, other, more recent issues have augmented Americans mistrust in the business
world in general, including the Watergate Affair and the business and government related scandals of
the 1980s, such as the near collapse of the savings and loan industry. The American public is
demanding higher ethical practices from business firms and organizations than it did in the past
(Wilcox, Ault, Agee 116).
How Public Relations Practitioners are Perceived
Despite pressure from the public, very little empirical evidence on the ethics of public relations
practitioners exists. As recently as the spring of 1988, a Public Relations Society of America (PRSA)
task force could only uncover 16 journal articles and two books as initial readings that dealt with
ethics issues in length (Pratt, Empirical 230).
However, one study conducted in 1989, has revealed the pathetic state of ethics in, and has called into
question the credibility, professional integrity and public image of, public relations (229). In the broad
field of mass communications, of which public relations practitioners are considered a part, the
occupation is viewed with cynicism. For example, an investigation of journalists attitudes toward
public relations, conducted in

The Rights And Nation By Gerald Friesen Essay
In his book, Citizens and Nation, Gerald Friesen first mentions the concept of imagined communities
as he states, Space had been restructured because the communication media had eliminated so many
of the inherited constraints of physical existence (Friesen 177). Thus, for Friesen, an imagined
community is constructed as communication technologies connect individuals across geographical
boundaries, therefore releasing the limitations of space. While Friesen s definition implies that a
technological intermediary is needed for the formation of imagined relations, his work, Citizens and
Nation works to prove that communities that are based on something other than face to face
communication, can, without technology, also be considered imagined . Moreover, using, Oral
Traditional and Screen Capitalist societies, two distinct time space configurations, this essay will
demonstrate how throughout history, the concept of Imagined Communities differed in its effect and
prevalence in Canadian life.
To begin, an analysis of Oral Traditional societies will work demonstrate that while per literate
communities were predominantly traditional, their connection to the land cultivated an imagined
community . Prior to the invention of print, Canadian aboriginals lived in an oral society where the
spoken word was the dominant form of communication. Because the transfer of information was
limited to face to face communication, oral societies, unlike imagined communities, could only

The Charge Of The Light Brigade, By Dylan Thomas
The Fight of the Inevitable It is impractical to contradict the inevitability of death, but no one begins
to think of that until they are an elder or at a point in their life where their life is in jeopardy. However,
it is said that people must not die in vain and that they should fight for their life, whether it is
physically in a battle or mentally when on your deathbed. Both The Charge of the Light Brigade by
Alfred, Lord Tennyson and Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas depict a
similar theme of mortality and how it is inevitable. Also, both poets add a unique lesson that one

once death approaches because they cannot enjoy life as they please. Towards the end of the poem,
Thomas mentions that his father is dying and recounts it as a sad height , but still he tells him to be

The Garden City By Ebenezer Howard
In the late 19th century, utopian ideals ran rampant as a response to the unsustainable situation caused
by the rise of industrialization. The poverty and squalor people were experiencing caused them to
embrace extreme Utopian ideas. They believed that it could potentially take them out of their current
condition. Utopia, though, is difficult to define, but within the context of this time period it is defined
as a belief in the perfectibility of humanity a basic goodness in human nature (Tarlow, 301). By this
definition, one of the only ideas of this time period that was truly utopian was the Garden City
Movement. The Garden City Concept was created by Ebenezer Howard in 1898. The ideas of it are
outlined in Howard s book: Garden Cities of To morrow. It is utopian in both how it was conceived
and the general concept. Its focus on collaboration, social change, and pragmatism rather than on
rebellious escapism made it a revolutionary idea that still continues to influence city planning to this
day. To better understand the reasoning behind Howard s garden city concept, it is important to
examine the impact of the industrial revolution on London and all of Britain. The rise of
industrialization caused the urban population to grow as many left the rural countryside to seek new
jobs. Industrialization led to a period of economic prosperity, but the cities often had unsuitable waste
disposals and polluted water supplies. In addition, there was a housing issue and there were

The Color Red In Beloved By Toni Morrison
The color, red, symbolizes a variety of different meanings like the quote from an unknown source,
Red, the single most dynamic and passionate color, symbolizes love, rage and courage. Demanding
attention, red has great emotional impact. Those who select red are aggressive, impulsive and strive
for success. In the novel, Beloved, by Toni Morrison, the author demonstrates the color red for the
future, memories, and hope. The main character Sethe, had a baby girl named Beloved, after her
youngest daughter, Denver. Before, she was able to show her love and affection to Beloved, she ended
her misery and fate by slitting her throat open. In 124, the house was considered spiteful and full of a
baby s venom . Due to the killing of her baby, Beloved haunts the whole house with a quote from the
novel, Now the iron was back but the face, softened by hair, made him trust her enough to step inside
her door smack into a pool of pulsing red light. (Morrison, 11). The glowing aura is significant to the
tragedy that took place in 124. At the beginning of first chapter, it already gives the readers the sense
of what took place and the imagery of the situation. The quote represents how the baby ghost is ready
to react to a stranger, which is Paul D. from Sweet Home, a slave plantation. Another quote form the
author, The red was gone but a kind of weeping clung to the air where it had been. (Morrison, 11).

The Oresteia
Instead of saying The Oresteia is a tragic trilogy that many people are killed, it would be more
appropriate to generalize it as the extension and the termination of vendetta. Even though Oresteia
doesn t cover the origin of the whole feud of the twins, Atreus and Thyestes, the whole trilogy never
digresses from the main theme: revenge. As the first observable vendetta in the trilogy, Clytemnestra s
revenge to Agamemnon is dramatic and thought provoking with the specialty of her role in her family
and her reasons to kill Agamemnon in the story.
For the mariticide in Agamemnon, reflecting Clytemnestra s attitude to Agamemnon is way more
significant than marking as the first murdering in the trilogy. From line 1521 to 1564, we may

In today s ethic, we may condemn everyone who murders his family members no matter who they are.
But in pre modern society, people normally rebuke and disdain those who murders his/her bloodlines
because it is a betrayal to their parents or their own blood. In line 1529, Clytemnestra describes
Agamemnon s bloodline killing and his death that with the sword he struck; with the sword he paid for
his own act. This indicates another reason that Clytemnestra murders Agamemnon: to punish those
who betrayed their bloodlines. Since Iphigeneia is the daughter of both Agamemnon and
Clytemnestra, killing Agamemnon is definitely reasonable to Clytemnestra. Nevertheless,
Clytemnestra is also the member of Agamemnon family, what will people think if she murders her
husband? People might not judge the murderer in the mariticide or uxoricide as heavy as those murder
the bloodlines because sexual partners don t share the blood from the same parents during pre modern
period. In a way, mariticide and uxoricide are totally same as the normal murdering. Thus, we may see
the Chorus is unable to condemn Clytemnestra for betraying her husband and Make lamentation,
render the graceless grace to his soul for huge things done in wickedness? (1544) is the most they may

Solon Vs Solon
What is the underlying mechanism that causes the downfall of leaders and the collapse of societies? A
superstitious individual could attribute these transitions to the gods. Solon, ancient Athenian poet and
political philosopher, would disagree with this sentiment and argue that it is men themselves who
cause their own destruction. Often, the unwillingness of rulers to hear and understand the potential
dangers of their greed and selfishness starts this process. To ascertain the best possible choice, one
must look to the future. What are the plausible outcomes and pitfalls of one s decisions? A failure to
consider this question and a lack of foresight is where many go wrong. In both Herodotus
representation of Solon and in his own poetry, Solon is a wise man who devotes his entire life to his
objectives and warns foolish leaders of their irresponsibility. He offers a political ideology about the
rise and fall of powerful men and great empires. This can be briefly summarized by Herodotus when
he says human prosperity never abides long in the same place (Herodotus 1.5.3 4). However, the
representations of Solon are in some ways different. For example, the Herodotean version uses
anecdotes to teach moral lessons, while the lyric Solon explicitly lays out his grievances against the
Athenian oligarchy and proposes ways to reform Athens. Solon s reformations brought Athens out of
an age of treachery and lawlessness rife with dishonest, unjust and essentially criminal rulers. He

activity. In 1930 the United States congress authorized the attorney general of the United States to
survey crime in America. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was chosen to implement the program.
(Schmalleger p.38)
The Uniform Crime Reports is the survey taken by the FBI. This measure of crime in America
depends on reports to the police by victims of crimes. The UCR Program was developed by the FBI

Arson is an exception to the Hierarchy Rule . One of the problems with the Uniform Crime Reports is
that many citizens do not always make official reports. For example, many women refuse to report
rapes because they do not want to relive the ordeal. Some citizen s feel that the police will not be able
to do anything about a crime committed against them therefore they do not report it. Another problem
with the Uniform Crime Reports is that Victimless crimes are rarely reported. These are crimes like
prostitution, gambling, and drug use. Since many of these crimes are not reported, then the UCR
becomes somewhat vague and incomplete.
When reviewing crime data, it is important for the reader to note the difference between offenses and

Alternative Energy is the Solution to the Fossil Fuel Dilemma
If the United States continues to employ fossil fuels for energy, the nation will ultimately become
more dependent upon fuel imports from the troublesome nations of the Middle East, and we will
continue to damage our precious environment. Since the United States relies so heavily on fuel from
the Middle East, the U.S. is subject to the will of those quarrelsome nations in order to maintain our
fuel reserve. A shortage of oil can happen at any time and would cause an energy crisis that would

The price of oil went from $2.50 a barrel to $30.00 a barrel in six years (2). This price change caused
us to plunge into an energy crisis. Fogel also says that many experts believe the oil crisis will
inevitably repeat itself if the U.S. does not curb its high demands for imported oil (2). This means that
if we do not use some other form of energy, then the U.S. will fall into another energy crisis.
Alternative energy is crucial to the preservation of a habital environment. According to Christine A.
Erwin, doctors say that fifty thousand American deaths per year are directly connected to airborne
particulate matter. About one third of this pollution comes from power plants (1). Therefore, if we
were to produce power without producing the pollutants, then we would cut the airborne particulates
by one third, thus reducing American deaths. Solar energy is one answer to producing power without
pollution. This energy is inexhaustible and available for use anywhere. Fogel says that if everyone
could make full use of the sun s light and heat, we would have about twenty thousand times as much
energy as the entire world uses now (73). We can never use up solar energy because it is enormous and
limitless. According to Erwin, solar energy is already being used everywhere in many different
applications. People are using solar energy to heat pools, houses, and hot water tanks and also to

I hope that DC in the future continues to explore her as a character but in a way that aids the need for
strong female leads. The questions that need to be asked are What if she lived in a time and place

the traditional super villain mould and have a well developed character who doesn t need to ask for

The Epidemic Of Obesity And The United States
Kole Dugger
Mrs. Wiest
English 132
6 February 2014
The Epidemic of Obesity In the beginning, it was just a few grains of sand. Now, those grains have
seemed to triple in amount. The 1960 s were great, as many might recall. New rock bands from other
countries were jamming out making number one hits on the billboards. Times were actually changing
in more than just that one way though. Hiding behind the curtains, an epidemic, was about to break
out. Unlike many epidemics, this one only pertained to the United States. The United States of
America is very unique in many ways compared to most other countries of the world. Ranging from
activities and the way they live, to the way its government is ran and how different the means of

It was designed for quick service, yet having great food to eat. That right there, will come back years
later to haunt Americans. With a small menu of only 9 items, there was one food item that stuck out
like a sore thumb when it came to the sales charts. That item would be the delicious fifteen cent
hamburger. By 1958, McDonalds sold 100 million hamburgers. Over the years, they opened many
more restaurants. Not only were they selling, they were expanding. Business was booming, so they
had no choice rather than to expand their services. In the very next year, they had opened their 100th
McDonalds restaurant. All this was in just four years, if time could tell how quickly things change, lets
skip ahead another three years. The year 1962 truly marked an era of how Americans are today. Lazy
and arrogant! A Denver, Colorado McDonalds introduced indoor seating for their McDonalds
restaurant. This seems like everyday dining for most of everybody reading this. With just one food
chain opening up, surely it could not be the only cause of obesity rates in the United States. Please
remember, McDonalds is not the only fast food chain around. They inspired others along with their
success. Burger King, Checkers, Hardees, Wendys and Sub Way are just a few example of fast food
chains that have began to dominate the food industry. Americans live in a wonderland of food, and
they take advantage of it! With many varieties of fast food chains

Stigma Of Social Welfare System
The social welfare system in the United States is defined through several different sectors of
government and generally comes along with a negative stigma. When people hear about social welfare
they generally tend to think about the government assistance programs, and not the other programs
such as tax credits or social insurance (Tussing 1974). This paper aims to explain and describe the
social welfare programs, as well as show how widespread social welfare is.
Midgley defines social welfare as a condition or state of human well being that exists when people s
needs are met, problems are managed, and opportunities are maximized (2009). Although, this
definition does cover the basic definition of social welfare, Tussing argues that there are two systems
within the welfare system and gives a greater understanding of the social insurance system (1974).
The stigma that goes along with being associated with social welfare programs generally doesn t
include the policies that are in place to assist the non poor. The PowerPoint argues that there are
different models to social welfare; residual and institutional and different programs; selective and
universal (PowerPoint). The main point difference between the institutional approach and the residual
approach is that the institutional approach is preventative where the residual approach is set up as a
safety net, when something goes wrong (PowerPoint). The institutional approach acknowledges the
need for social services

The Human Embryonic Stem Cells
Since the discovery of human embryonic stem cells, scientists have had high hopes for their use in
treating a wider variety of diseases because they are pluripotent, which means they are capable of
differentiating into one of many cell types in the body.
However, the acquisition of human embryonic stem cells from an embryo can cause the destruction of
the embryo, thus raising ethical concerns. In 2006, researchers introduced an alternative to harvesting
embryonic stem cells called induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells. They provided evidence that it was
possible to send a normal adult cell back to an undifferentiated, pluripotent stem cell state by
introducing genetic material ( outside DNA) into the cell, a process that alters the original state of the
cell.
To avoid the use of embryonic stem cells, other researchers have focused more on the use of adult
stem cells, but the use of these cells is limited because, unlike embryonic stem cells that grow into any
type of mature cell, adult stem cells can only grow into certain cell types.
Now, researchers from Harvard affiliated Brigham and Women s Hospital (BWH), in collaboration
with the RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology in Japan, have demonstrated that any mature adult
cell (a somatic cell) has the potential to turn into the equivalent of an embryonic stem cell. In an
article to be published in the Jan. 30 issue of Nature, researchers demonstrate, in a preclinical model, a
novel and unique way that cells can be

Latin American Debt Crisis And Its Results
LATIN AMERICAN DEBT CRISIS, THE SOLUTIONS AND ITS RESULTS.
As it known the debt crisis of the 1980s is the most traumatic economic event in Latin America s
economic history. During the lost decade , the GPA fell from 112% to 98% of the world average, and
from 34% to 26% of the developed countries average. Development countries were giving loans to
Latin American countries to enable them to straighten their economies. However, they have had
difficulty repaying their debt. Latin American borrowing from US commercial banks and other
creditors increased dramatically during the 1970s. At the end of 1970, total outstanding debt was only
$29 billion. but by the end of 1978, that number increased to $159 billion. By 1982, the debt level ...

Secretary Baker underlined the importance of foreign and equity investment as non debt creating. This
can have a compounding effect on growth by bringing innovation and technology and help to keep the
capital domestic. The plan proposed the private banks and institutions to keep lending to the indebted
countries. The banks could provide new loan of $20 billion over a three years period and the World
bank and the Inter American Development Bank could contribute an additional $9 billion. The Baker
plan called for an annual increase of around 2.5% in commercial lending but the bankers were uneasy
with this request because the plan was reliant on continuing accumulating debt to finance growth.
Without strong assurances on the new loans, it would be very difficult to increase international
spending. The Baker plan had mixes results. The plan was efficient towards the 15 largest debtors and
it neglected the needs of smaller countries. A few of the worst indebted countries had made progress in
adjusting their external sector during 1986 1988 and the threat to the international banking system has
subsided, for the time being. The plan failed because the new lending proposed was insufficient. Also,
the debilitating effects of high interest rates and low commodity prices were not addressed. There was
not one significant contribution that it has been shown that

My family is a clear example of migration. Some of my family immigrated from Michoacán to Mexico State, some others decided to immigrate to the USA. My generation is the fourth in the USA, my great grand parents came to USA in Braceros program, but my generation is the first to establish USA as their home. How many people do they have similar situation, or a history of migration? In this paper, I will discuss what is missing in The immigration equation. Immigration is a sensitive problem in this country where the majority population has a history of immigration. However, when you are thinking more than 11 million undocumented immigrants live in the USA, then we have the obligation to talk about what it is happening of this number, what negative reactions confront and other problems are facing. Moreover, we need to add the other millions whom born of immigrants, permanent residents, or people who follow the naturalization process, who are considerate second class citizens was mentioned by Kevin R Jhonson. The complexity of immigration has always been considerate the problems of economy even though it does not have a way of how immigrant cause a severe problem. The movie Bravehearts is an amazing account of one Scotsman that decided to fight the oppression of the English to gain his freedom. With this one mans vision an awesome movie is created. At the beginning of the movie we see William Wallace the main character as a young boy. The setting is a small cottage in Scotland. His father and brother are about to embark on a trip to battle. One of the main issues that I found interesting was how much the water bottling industries put out false advertising. Did you ever look on a bottle of water and see beautiful mountains or a crystal clear stream? Well, you guessed it... false advertising. The video explained to us that not only does most of the bottled water that we drink come from a tap but it also is not tested the way that it is advertised. The bottled water that everyone is drinking has most likely only been ran through a filter, no testing for chemicals or bacteria has been done. We are led to believe that this water is more safe and/or better for us due to the very convincing messages written on the bottles. When in reality the water that comes from your kitchen sink is much better for you, unless otherwise noted. Aquafina water has one of the biggest false advertisement labels. The bottles label consists of a clean blue label showing images of snow capped mountains and the claim, Pure water, perfect taste. I will first give a synopsis of the film. Directed by Michael Haneke, Caché presents the story of a bourgeois, middle aged French man, George, who receives anonymous tapes. This makes him recall his childhood memory of an Algerian boy, Majid. Majid s parents worked in George s house but died in the massacre on 17th Oct., 1961 when the French police killed more than 200 Algerians. After Majid lost his parents, George s parents originally planned to adopt him. However, as George was the only child in his family, he was afraid of letting Majid enter the family. As such, Hume spends Section X of An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding discussing miracles. Miracles are contradictory with his empiricist worldview, so he devotes the chapter to arguing why we should not believe in them. Hume defines a miracle as a violation of the laws of nature. 1 That is, a miracle departs from our uniform experience of what we are used to witnessing in nature. (If it were just a normal event, then we would not notice it as a special event, a miracle.)2 Our Belief in Miracles Hume lays the groundwork by saying that our commitment to our beliefs should be proportionate to the quality of evidence that supports that belief.3 Given any two conflicting beliefs, we should choose the belief that has the highest probability. It is a practice of pursuing the process of discovering knowledge on a specific topic. I once told someone what I find to be intriguing to me and they also told me what they unearth to be fascinating. They appear to have squandered too much time on the issue, but, I was young then and seem to be new to his universe of knowledge. Their advice was doing a research in order to uncover everything about the subject until I feel I am the expert. That wasn t all, and then I was to study and discover some more knowledge with regard to it. I was quite frustrated with that advice because I would like to spend only a week on studying. Will, here I am, finally endeavoring to carry out that concept of research and discovery through studying and learning some more on the subject I would like to become an expert on. Research in general supports the same concept of learning and knowledge obtained from constant education. • 25. Analysis Of The Poem My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke is an intriguing poem because of its ambiguity. One could see this as a poem about a child having a playful dance with his dad before bedtime but I see it as a poem about a child being abused by his father because he is an alcoholic. A dance is supposed to symbolize an expression of joyful spirituality and love especially the waltz. Specifically, the title may give the impression that this dance between father and son is a smooth romantic dance but some words and phrases bring an entirely difference image to the mind. The first stanza sets the tone for the seriousness of the poem. The whiskey on your breath (Roethke, 1) already sets the tone for the rest of the poem. The boy who has grown up to remember this experience with his father is putting emphasis on the fact that his father may have been a drunk. He remembers his dad s breath smelling like alcohol and this plays a major role in the entire experience itself. The speaker then goes on to say, Could make a small boy dizzy (2) which tells me that the smell of alcohol on his breath was so strong it made him feel lightheaded and woozy. The father must have been drinking heavily and the fact that it made him sick tells the reader that he may not have just gone out for an occasional drink. However, even though the boy felt sick he still held on to his father closely, But I hung on like death (3) implying he was so scared all he could do was hang on to his father. His father s ... It s Time for a Universal Code of Ethics for Public Relations Contemporary public relations is a twentieth century phenomenon that evolved from the press gentry of the 1800s. These old time press agents played upon the credulity of the public in its desire to be entertained, whether or not they were deceived. Advertisements and press releases were often exaggerated to the point of being complete falsifications. In promoting an attraction, press agents dropped multitudes of tickets on the newspaper editors desk along with the releases. Voluminous publicity for the attraction usually resulted, and reporters, editors, and their families flocked to the free entertainment with scant regard for any ethical constraints (Wilcox, Ault, Agee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Roots such as these have created the skepticism with which the public views the field of public relations. Furthermore, it is the duty of practitioners to create positive images for businesses and organizations. Therefore, other, more recent issues have augmented Americans mistrust in the business world in general, including the Watergate Affair and the business and government related scandals of the 1980s, such as the near collapse of the savings and loan industry. The American public is demanding higher ethical practices from business firms and organizations than it did in the past (Wilcox, Ault, Agee 116). How Public Relations Practitioners are Perceived Despite pressure from the public, very little empirical evidence on the ethics of public relations practitioners exists. As recently as the spring of 1988, a Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) task force could only uncover 16 journal articles and two books as initial readings that dealt with ethics issues in length (Pratt, Empirical 230). However, one study conducted in 1989, has revealed the pathetic state of ethics in, and has called into question the credibility, professional integrity and public image of, public relations (229). • 27. The Rights And Nation By Gerald Friesen Essay In his book, Citizens and Nation, Gerald Friesen first mentions the concept of imagined communities as he states, Space had been restructured because the communication media had eliminated so many of the inherited constraints of physical existence (Friesen 177). Thus, for Friesen, an imagined community is constructed as communication technologies connect individuals across geographical boundaries, therefore releasing the limitations of space. While Friesen s definition implies that a technological intermediary is needed for the formation of imagined relations, his work, Citizens and Nation works to prove that communities that are based on something other than face to face communication, can, without technology, also be considered imagined . Moreover, using, Oral Traditional and Screen Capitalist societies, two distinct time space configurations, this essay will demonstrate how throughout history, the concept of Imagined Communities differed in its effect and prevalence in Canadian life. To begin, an analysis of Oral Traditional societies will work demonstrate that while per literate communities were predominantly traditional, their connection to the land cultivated an imagined community . Prior to the invention of print, Canadian aboriginals lived in an oral society where the spoken word was the dominant form of communication. • 29. The Garden City By Ebenezer Howard In the late 19th century, utopian ideals ran rampant as a response to the unsustainable situation caused by the rise of industrialization. The poverty and squalor people were experiencing caused them to embrace extreme Utopian ideas. They believed that it could potentially take them out of their current condition. Utopia, though, is difficult to define, but within the context of this time period it is defined as a belief in the perfectibility of humanity a basic goodness in human nature (Tarlow, 301). By this definition, one of the only ideas of this time period that was truly utopian was the Garden City Movement. The Garden City Concept was created by Ebenezer Howard in 1898. The ideas of it are outlined in Howard s book: Garden Cities of To morrow. It is utopian in both how it was conceived and the general concept. Its focus on collaboration, social change, and pragmatism rather than on rebellious escapism made it a revolutionary idea that still continues to influence city planning to this day. To better understand the reasoning behind Howard s garden city concept, it is important to examine the impact of the industrial revolution on London and all of Britain. The rise of industrialization caused the urban population to grow as many left the rural countryside to seek new jobs. Industrialization led to a period of economic prosperity, but the cities often had unsuitable waste disposals and polluted water supplies. In addition, there was a housing issue and there were ... Even though Oresteia doesn t cover the origin of the whole feud of the twins, Atreus and Thyestes, the whole trilogy never digresses from the main theme: revenge. As the first observable vendetta in the trilogy, Clytemnestra s revenge to Agamemnon is dramatic and thought provoking with the specialty of her role in her family and her reasons to kill Agamemnon in the story. But in pre modern society, people normally rebuke and disdain those who murders his/her bloodlines because it is a betrayal to their parents or their own blood. In line 1529, Clytemnestra describes Agamemnon s bloodline killing and his death that with the sword he struck; with the sword he paid for his own act. This indicates another reason that Clytemnestra murders Agamemnon: to punish those who betrayed their bloodlines. Since Iphigeneia is the daughter of both Agamemnon and Clytemnestra, killing Agamemnon is definitely reasonable to Clytemnestra. • 33. Solon Vs Solon What is the underlying mechanism that causes the downfall of leaders and the collapse of societies? A superstitious individual could attribute these transitions to the gods. Solon, ancient Athenian poet and political philosopher, would disagree with this sentiment and argue that it is men themselves who cause their own destruction. Often, the unwillingness of rulers to hear and understand the potential dangers of their greed and selfishness starts this process. To ascertain the best possible choice, one must look to the future. What are the plausible outcomes and pitfalls of one s decisions? A failure to consider this question and a lack of foresight is where many go wrong. In both Herodotus representation of Solon and in his own poetry, Solon is a wise man who devotes his entire life to his objectives and warns foolish leaders of their irresponsibility. He offers a political ideology about the rise and fall of powerful men and great empires. This can be briefly summarized by Herodotus when he says human prosperity never abides long in the same place (Herodotus 1.5.3 4). However, the representations of Solon are in some ways different. For example, the Herodotean version uses anecdotes to teach moral lessons, while the lyric Solon explicitly lays out his grievances against the Athenian oligarchy and proposes ways to reform Athens. Solon s reformations brought Athens out of an age of treachery and lawlessness rife with dishonest, unjust and essentially criminal rulers. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With just one food chain opening up, surely it could not be the only cause of obesity rates in the United States. Please remember, McDonalds is not the only fast food chain around. They inspired others along with their success. Burger King, Checkers, Hardees, Wendys and Sub Way are just a few example of fast food chains that have began to dominate the food industry. Americans live in a wonderland of food, and they take advantage of it! With many varieties of fast food chains ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Stigma Of Social Welfare System The social welfare system in the United States is defined through several different sectors of government and generally comes along with a negative stigma. When people hear about social welfare they generally tend to think about the government assistance programs, and not the other programs such as tax credits or social insurance (Tussing 1974). This paper aims to explain and describe the social welfare programs, as well as show how widespread social welfare is. Midgley defines social welfare as a condition or state of human well being that exists when people s needs are met, problems are managed, and opportunities are maximized (2009). Although, this definition does cover the basic definition of social welfare, Tussing argues that there are two systems within the welfare system and gives a greater understanding of the social insurance system (1974). The stigma that goes along with being associated with social welfare programs generally doesn t include the policies that are in place to assist the non poor. The PowerPoint argues that there are different models to social welfare; residual and institutional and different programs; selective and universal (PowerPoint). The main point difference between the institutional approach and the residual approach is that the institutional approach is preventative where the residual approach is set up as a safety net, when something goes wrong (PowerPoint). The institutional approach acknowledges the need for social services ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Human Embryonic Stem Cells Since the discovery of human embryonic stem cells, scientists have had high hopes for their use in treating a wider variety of diseases because they are pluripotent, which means they are capable of differentiating into one of many cell types in the body. However, the acquisition of human embryonic stem cells from an embryo can cause the destruction of the embryo, thus raising ethical concerns. In 2006, researchers introduced an alternative to harvesting embryonic stem cells called induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells. They provided evidence that it was possible to send a normal adult cell back to an undifferentiated, pluripotent stem cell state by introducing genetic material ( outside DNA) into the cell, a process that alters the original state of the cell. To avoid the use of embryonic stem cells, other researchers have focused more on the use of adult stem cells, but the use of these cells is limited because, unlike embryonic stem cells that grow into any type of mature cell, adult stem cells can only grow into certain cell types. Now, researchers from Harvard affiliated Brigham and Women s Hospital (BWH), in collaboration with the RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology in Japan, have demonstrated that any mature adult cell (a somatic cell) has the potential to turn into the equivalent of an embryonic stem cell. In an article to be published in the Jan. 30 issue of Nature, researchers demonstrate, in a preclinical model, a novel and unique way that cells can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Latin American Debt Crisis And Its Results LATIN AMERICAN DEBT CRISIS, THE SOLUTIONS AND ITS RESULTS. As it known the debt crisis of the 1980s is the most traumatic economic event in Latin America s economic history. During the lost decade , the GPA fell from 112% to 98% of the world average, and from 34% to 26% of the developed countries average. Development countries were giving loans to Latin American countries to enable them to straighten their economies. However, they have had difficulty repaying their debt. Latin American borrowing from US commercial banks and other creditors increased dramatically during the 1970s. At the end of 1970, total outstanding debt was only $29 billion. but by the end of 1978, that number increased to $159 billion. By 1982, the debt level ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secretary Baker underlined the importance of foreign and equity investment as non debt creating. This can have a compounding effect on growth by bringing innovation and technology and help to keep the capital domestic. The plan proposed the private banks and institutions to keep lending to the indebted countries. The banks could provide new loan of $20 billion over a three years period and the World bank and the Inter American Development Bank could contribute an additional $9 billion. The Baker plan called for an annual increase of around 2.5% in commercial lending but the bankers were uneasy with this request because the plan was reliant on continuing accumulating debt to finance growth. Without strong assurances on the new loans, it would be very difficult to increase international spending. The Baker plan had mixes results. The plan was efficient towards the 15 largest debtors and it neglected the needs of smaller countries. A few of the worst indebted countries had made progress in adjusting their external sector during 1986 1988 and the threat to the international banking system has subsided, for the time being. The plan failed because the new lending proposed was insufficient. Also, the debilitating effects of high interest rates and low commodity prices were not addressed. There was not one significant contribution that it has been shown that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
