Guildford County Case Study
The population in Guildford county at the end of 2017 was 526,953, according to the US census
bureau, and Forsyth s population was 371,511, In 1990 the populations were 349,135 and 266,855
respectively. Some contributing factors for the increase in population are, the location of the counties,
and the amount of higher learning institutions in the area. In 2017 the growth rate of the population in
Guilford county was up 0.73% from the previous year, while Forsyth s rate of growth was higher at
0.95%. ( cite world population) The location of both counties makes them attractive options for those
who want to be close to larger cities, such as, Charlotte and Raleigh but have no desire to live in rural
areas. These counties had the allure of being a manufacturing hub. Textile plants like Cone Mills, R.J.
Reynolds tobacco plant, Western Electric with their electronic engineering facility, and the expansion
of the High Point furniture market allowed Guilford and Forsyth to flourish into the 90s. Many of
those people chose to stay in the area and learn a different trade after the manufacturing plants moved
overseas. * maybeNow there are new industries on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Immigrants Essay
Traditionally immigrants are face numerous challenges on a daily basis. Whether it be learning a new
language, raising their children, work, housing, accessing services, transportation, cultural barriers,
and many more. But, have we as society really thought who is to blame for this and why as we should
care. How this affects them in the long run. Having all these different emotion inside them from the
not knowing. There are about 1.5 million children and youth that are brought over undocumented. . In
the book Lives in Limbo there is a saying which goes ni de aqui ni de alla meaning that they don t feel
like they belong to either side. They know they don t belong here because everyone is telling them
they don t belong but then they don t belong from where they came from because they grew up here
and that s all they know. Many of these children are often faced with discrimination, racial profiling,
bullying, forcibly taken away from their families and even deportation. These events can not only scar
them but cause them severe issues while growing up. They can become depressed, have anxiety,
PTSD, and become socially isolated. These children should not have to experience these types of
situations. Many of these children lose their only support system . In some cases some of the youth
became so hopeless that they their last resort was suicide. The first problem immigrants face is
language. It s hard enough to be a(n) undocumented immigrant having the fear of being

Essay on Shamanism
Shamanism
Shamanism in Anthropology has been an entity in a constant metamorphosis.
It has always been considered exotic and its existence around the globe was never contradicted.
However, over the years it did not receive the scholarly attention that it so requires. The age of
discovery garnered a multitude of information on shamanism all over the world. The reporters
invested a great deal of accuracy in the gathering of the information, but their observational skills
were mostly underdeveloped. Furthermore as could be expected, they saw and evaluated things solely
on the basis of European religion and social customs
(Flaherty, 1992, pp.3) without having it necessary to view its ramifications to the people ... Show more

Nevertheless, differences did emerge that transformed the definition of shamanism in anthropology in
that it added more to this vague definition.
According to Mircea Eliade the shaman who is an inspired priest, in ecstatic trance ascends to the
heavens on trips . In the cause of these journeys the shaman persuades or even fights with the gods in
order to secure benefits for his fellow men. Here, in the opinion of Eliade, spirit possession is not an
essential characteristics and is no always present (Eliade, 1951, pp.434). He goes on by stating that the
quot;specific element of shamanism is not the incorporation of spirits by the shaman but the ecstasy
provoked by the ascension to the sky quot;(pp.434). That is to say that the incorporation of spirit
possession does not necessarily belong to shamanism. Therefore, from Eliade s view point we see that
there is a wedge between shamanism and spirit possession (Lewis,1971, pp.49). This was a view that
was prevalent in the study of shamanism in anthropology at the time. Other writers on the subject
clearly accepted this view as expressed by Luc de Heusch. He sought to develop these ideas into an
ambitious, formalistic theory of religious phenomena. He states that shamanism and spirit possession
are an antithetical process. The first is an ascent of man to the gods, the second the descent of the gods
on men (Lewis,1971,pp.50).

Enormouse Wealth of CEO s
Let me start off by saying 2.27 billion. What does that make you think of? Some of you may think it is
the population of a specific continent? Others may think it is the amount of petroleum being drilled
for. I am sure none of you would have guessed it was the amount of money Mark Zuckerburg, the
creator of Facebook, made in one year. Executive compensation is bonuses and benefits given to CEO
s of companies on top of the base salary they are receiving. The amount, as you see, can be
astronomical which will lead one to question the ethics of employee compensation programs. While it
may motivate some people to perform better so they may increase stockholders wealth, it may also
have an adverse effect on the executive which will have an effect on the entire company as was the
case with Enron. I am taking up Business Economics and Research has led me to the conclusion that
employee compensation is unethical, detrimental to the health of companies, and disadvantageous to
the entire economy. Executive compensation is a form of financial compensation that is determined by
the compensation committee. The compensation committee sets the package so it correlates with
factors that have an effect on the company. According to an economic theory known as the Optimal
Contracting Theory. , top executives and shareholders negotiate through the board of directors to

Randle McMurphy: A Christ Figure
A book that understands the inside secrets of society darkest reality: mental institutions. In his novel,
One Who Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, Ken Kesey writes about hidden realities of numerous
patients. The setting of the novel takes place inside of a mental institution. While getting to know the
characters, the story is being narrated by Chief Bromden, who is mute, and the ward is run by Nurse
Ratched, also known as the Big Nurse. The story is turned upside down by Randle McMurphy when
set out to change the ward and the patients inside. The book highlights the social differences between
ward and the outside world. In the novel, the author portrays Randle McMurphy as a Christ Figure
which allows the rest of the characters to demonstrate their humanity instead of being ... Show more

Through the novel, Kesey illustrates McMurphy as an archetype to portray the parallels between
McMurphy and a Christ Figure. Early on in the novel, McMurphy brings to the ward a zest for life and
an insistence upon individuality and exploration (Vitkus 56). He allows for the patients to reawakened
without fear of the consequence. He can serve as an enthusiasm causing the patients to smile and
laugh with being frightened of being analyzed by the nurses. Another instance, McMurphy is crucified
when he was sent to the electrical shock therapy, the way he laid on the table ironically, like a cross,
with a crown of electric sparks in place of thorns (Kesey). This illustration of McMurphy on the
tables, self scaring himself to protect the patient and to be brave for Bromden proves his willingness to
save them. By him on the table laying the way Christ died, simulates the ward lack of humanity.
Similarly to Jesus, one of McMurphy s

Long-Term Care Reimbursement Analysis
Long Term Care Reimbursement
Who Covers Reimbursement for Long Term Care
Long term care has many funding sources which includes government funding, privet insurance, out
of pocket payments, and any combination of any of these programs. Privet insurance includes
insurance for long term care and managed care (HMO, PPO, POS). While government funding
includes Supplemental security income, Department of veteran affairs, Older American act, Medicare,
and Medicaid. With Medicare and Medicaid providing the most funding to long term care (Pratt, 2016,
p. 292 306). If Medicare and Medicaid are the biggest funders for long term care what services do
they cover, who do they cover, and what restrictions are put on the recipeits?
An Overview of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So why isn t insurance for those sixty five and older the biggest payer of long term care? This
contradiction to what you would think is a result of the restrictions put on long term care by both types
of insurance. Medicaid only sets the restriction that the person must be over twenty one, have a
medical need (verified by a doctor) for help with their daily living, and the care be given in a
Medicaid certified facility. If these requirements are met Medicaid will cover nursing facilities, home
health, and some day care facilities. However, each state set their own services so the Medicaid
eligible services may be different from state to state (Meedicaid.gov, n.d). Medicare on the other hand
does not cover long term care that helps with the functioning of everyday life. Medicare only covers
subacute care weather in your home or a facility. With the requirements being that the facility must be
at a Medicare licensed facility, the patient has to be transferred from an acute hospital, the transfer
must be prescribed by a doctor, and or the patient must have been released from a hospital stay within
the last sixty days (CMS, 2014). Medicaid pays for long term care users who have difficulty living
everyday life, performing everyday activities, and have a lifelong medical disorder needing assistance
to function at just about any age. While, Medicare pays for

Flat Earth Society
In recent news, a new community has outwardly spoken on the theory, the earth is flat. This
community calls themselves The Flat Earth Society or Flat Earthers . This began around the mid 20th
century and has rapidly grown with the expansion of social media, and influencers such as rapper
B.o.B and basketball player Shaquille O Neal.
This society believes that the Earth is a flat disk, similar to the United Nations Flag (Figure 1), where
the sun works as a spotlight to create night and day.(Figure 2) The Sun revolves around the north pole
and changes position when creating the seasons.
We have learned in basic K 12 schooling that the Earth is spherical in shape. The earliest recording of

Ethics and Privatization of Public Systems Essay
Ethics problems of privatizing water supply services. Paper submitted for Ethics class, with good
reseach on Chinese market.
Privatization of public systems has been going on in both developed and developing countries for
many years, maybe with more strength on developing countries in the last decade because of their
higher reliance on public companies.
The inefficiency of many public companies and its burden to the countries bearing them has been
probably the reason most commonly used to justify them. Other reasons have also been: expertise of
the private companies, fewer capital funds needed to start the project (in case of new projects) and less
resources needed from the government to control the day to day operations from the ... Show more

For improving the economic results of a firm there are two possibilities a) reducing costs b) increasing
revenues:
a) Reducing costs: This is normally attained in two ways for water companies, utilizing more efficient
modern equipment which per se doesn t imply any ethical problem (but this has an attached higher
investment cost) or reducing labor cost, which could lead to difficult decisions.
Another way of reducing costs, for new projects that require building infrastructure, is by supplying
water only to the sector of the people who can afford paying for the services. The layering of the pipe
network is a very expensive part of the construction of a new water supply system, and thus private
companies could save money by not supplying areas were water consumption is low, or were they
expect to have difficulties collecting the fees.
b) Increasing revenues: to raise the prices of water supply to customers. This has two ethical issues
bound:
a. First, the reduction of the access to water to lower income users due to its higher cost, or at least the
reduction of the amount of water they can use.
b. The quick rise of prices of water before the quality of supply is improved can confuse and irate the
consumers.
Seeing the ethical issues that will arise to private companies in charge of supplying water to people,
should they be left alone to take the

The Depletion Of The Natural Resources
In the past recent years, the depletion of the natural resources has become the area of major attention
throughout the world. These resources include the fossil fuels, minerals, natural vegetation, animals,
air, water, sunlight, soil, etc. The rate of its consumption is increasing day by day. This ultimately
leads to the ceasing of the resources to the earth s crust. The rising demand of these resources has led
to a limited supply of these resources which has serious impacts to environmental damages like air
pollution, water pollution, soil pollution and the depletion of the ozone layer. Thus, there is an urgent
need for mainly the industries to find an alternative approach reducing its unwanted effect on the
environment.
Manufacturing plays a very important role in an organization particularly to build competitive benefit
and improve performance. Manufacturers have been neglecting their social environmental
responsibility and have focused too much on their profits. The minimization of waste and pollution
produced can be achieved by product and process designing. Green manufacturing is an emerging
field as a solution taken by the industries in the recent years.
Green manufacturing can broadly be defined as the technology used in a manufacturing process that
finds a smarter way to use the limited resources, both in manufacturing the material and in the energy
used in the process. This is achieved by reducing the waste and pollution by re defining the present
production

Passing seems like a fictional action, yet we still approve of it in today s society. In the novel, Passing

being able to pass has challenges and problems. She felt trapped, having to be a race that it not your s

The Affordable Healthcare Act And The Catholic Faith
The Affordable Healthcare Act and the Catholic Faith
The healthcare system of the United States was established as a system of health and welfare
programs created to provide affordable treatment to the citizens of the United States. Recently, the
Affordable Health Care Act was passed changing the structure of the system (Mulvany, 2012). While
in theory the new arrangement works, it has its flaws due to the resulting cost, slowness, and the
government interfering with religious and personal beliefs. These problems have led many people to
question the role of the government in the life of the individual.
The Supreme Court s favorable ruling on the Affordable Health Care Act allowed for healthcare to be
available for many Americans who would otherwise not receive medical benefits. This is because it
increases the number of people covered by Medicare/Medicaid, and lowers the cost of insurance
through employers. While this idea is good in theory, paying for it is a challenge due to the fact that it
will only add to the nation s already enormous debit of several trillion dollars (Mulvany, 2012). From
2010 2019, the United States is predicted to spend around 400 billion dollars on healthcare. This
prediction has prompted lawmakers to reduce spending on Medicare, Medicaid and other welfare
programs. The spending cuts will result in less people getting the care they need due to the limited
availability of money for care and the increase in the number of beneficiaries receiving

Correcting Wrong Site Anesthesia Errors

Abstract
There are number of issues facing healthcare in the United States that are not exclusive to one area
and often occur during routine tasks. Although many of these issues are addressed on a daily basis, the
need to fix them is still important. Medical errors are a continuous problem seen nationwide in
hospitals and surgical centers. More exclusively wrong site peripheral nerve blocks have been seen in
hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers across the United States (Hudson, Sullivan, 2012). The first
section of the paper takes a look at a number of reasons why peripheral nerve block errors occur and
the risk factors associated with them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
See Figure 1 for a detailed example of the difference between popliteal and femoral nerve block
approaches.
There are a number of reasons why Medical errors occur and causes that can be addressed. Wrong site
anesthesia nerve blocks are preventable medical errors and the occurrences of these errors are a
concern for medical staff each day.
Because to Err is human, operating room staff members should have fail safe provisions in place in an
attempt to prevent wrong site nerve block errors from happening.
There are a number of potential causes of popliteal and femoral nerve block errors that can be broken
down into process factors and system factors. System factors focus on the lack of checklists, and the
exclusion of certain surgical teams members. Whereas, process factors focus on things like,
inadequate communication with team members or one patient having multiple procedures done.
(Mulloy Hughes, 2008) Table 1. Gives a more detail breakdown between system factors and process
factors that contribute to medical errors.
Benchmarking can be a successful tool to determine root causes and potential solutions to a problem.
Benchmarking allows for an organization to compare themselves to others in the same field and gauge
what works and hasn t work for others. (Suttle, n.d.) One tool that can

The Effectiveness of Irish Catholic and Nationalist Leaders in Advancing Their Cause in the Years
1801 and On
The Act Of Union in 1800 meant there was no longer any Irish institution capable of advancing either
an Irish nationalist or catholic cause. As a result the advancement of those causes depended on
influencing the British Government directly. The catholic cause initially focused on securing
emancipation for the catholic population and aimed to improve the lives and rights of Catholics
throughout the period. The nationalist cause fought for greater Irish autonomy with full independence
as its greater aim. In evaluating the effectiveness of the Irish leaders Daniel O Connell, Charles Stuart

Whereas O Connell was satisfied in 1829 it seems Parnell wanted greater reform. Parnell was able to
wield more power within parliament than O Connell due to the weak governments of the time. In 1885
the IPP held the balance of power, which allowed Parnell to use his political skill to earn the prospect
of home rule. The fact that both the Conservative and Liberal parties had promised a Home Rule Bill
shows the power Parnell held and the possibility that existed for real, more attainable changes in
Ireland. The passing of The Ashbourne Act as a statement of Conservative will demonstrates this. It
can be argued that the Home Rule Bill was an achievement in itself and opened Westminster to the
possibility of home rule. I do not believe the break up of the Liberal party was a disaster for Irish
nationalist hopes of home rule as Gladstone was able to attempt a second bill in 1892. Though it was
unwise for Parnell to attempt such a bill at the time particularly as he was not involved in its inception.
Alan O Day explains how Gladstone took few of his colleagues or Parnell into confidence about the
details of the bill and how it contained a great many negative provisions.
Following Parnell s infamous home rule attempt no other leader of the IPP emerged as such an

Bipolar Disorder, Formerly Known As Manic-Depression, Is
Bipolar disorder, formerly known as manic depression, is a mental disorder. This disorder causes the
individual to experience severe mood swings, from elation to depression. Individuals with bipolar
disorder can experience serious changes in thinking, energy and behaviour. The different states of
those with bipolar experience are referred to as episodes . These episodes can last days, weeks or
months, depending on the severity of the episode. There are three main types of episodes, they are
mania, depressive and psychotic states. Mania describes the state in which the individual experiences

The exact cause of bipolar disorder is still unknown, however, there are many factors which that can
work together to make it more likely for an individual to develop bipolar disorder. These factors vary
from each person, therefore, one factor that produces the onset of bipolar disorder may not cause
someone else to develop the illness. It is believed there may be a correlation between genetics and
bipolar disorder. Researchers have theorised that there is a genetic predisposition for the disorder as it
tends to run in families, with Kerner stating, the heritability of bipolar disorder based on concordance
rates for bipolar disorder in twin studies has been estimated to be between 60% and 80%. (Kerner
2014). Despite these figures, other studies have been inconsistent and inconclusive in proving the
linkage. Studies have shown environmental factors play a major role in the development of bipolar
disorder. One of the most significant environmental factors observed in relation to the onset of bipolar
disorder is childhood trauma or abuse. This can be observed by looking at the study conducted by
Alvarez et al which, examined 102 patients with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and schizoaffective
disorder and showed that nearly half (47.5%) of these patients had suffered childhood abuse. (E.
Brietzke et al. 2002). Childhood abuse is a common cause of various mental illnesses and disorders.

Present Day Nursing Essay
According to American Nurses Association nursing can be defined as the protection, promotion, and
optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness . (American Nurses Association 2016)
Nursing is a career where a person, should have compassion, a caring heart, and be devoted to their
client care. Sometime person goes into the nursing field for the money, job stability, and because a
person s family member wants them to go into the nursing field. I feel like the future of nursing have
yet to be determined.
The meaning of the future of nursing is advancement of healthcare, and direct patient care. The future
of nursing has many advantages and disadvantages. Some advantages is removing the scope of
practice barriers, the increasing numbers of registered nurses with bachelor degree and doctorate
degree. Some disadvantages of future nursing is working long hours, emotional and mental
exhaustion, stress, frustration, and legal risk for advance practice nurses. The future of nursing
definitely needs assistance from the present day nurses, we as present day nurses should help form and
mold the future nursing field. Present day nurses should help the future nurses by showing the future
nursing our mistake, misconception, dilemma, and unsatisfactory patient care that has plague our time
error. Furthermore, we as present day nurses we can help the future nurses learn more about cultural

Female Athletes And Gender Roles
There are so many issues when it comes to gender roles, gender norms, and gender identities. Many
men and women in today s society freely choose the way they want to present themselves to society;
which is either masculine or feminine. A lot of these characteristics are accepted, and a lot are not
accepted in society today. There are many social stigmas that come along with being a female athlete;
meaning there is major social criticism with how they choose to present themselves to society. Gender
is a symbol for a strong system of norms that analyzes and leads the behavior of men and women
(Schur 1984; Blinde and Taube 1992). So why are female athletes portrayed in such a polarized
fashion? Female athletes are strong, powerful, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I m also going to discuss societies views of why and how female athletes portray themselves and why
it s not acceptable. Gender Polarization Gender polarization is an idea that discusses how American
society describes the difference between femininity and masculinity. According to Krane (2004),
female athletes are expected to fulfill certain hegemonic femininity while refraining from any
masculine ways. Common behaviors construct and reinforce gendered practices as well as differential
distribution of privilege, power, and resources. Behaviors that are acceptable for men are, and should
not be seen as suitable behaviors for women. In western culture, it is stressed that a womanly body
figure and behavior contradicts with a body and behavior of an athlete (Krane et al. 2004). The theory
of gender polarization extends from explaining the difference between sex and gender. Sex is what
you are born as (i.e. man or woman). Gender is how one chooses to present themselves society.
Women in today s society hold up to certain qualities that they should maintain. Sometimes it s hard
for a female athlete to convey these qualities because of how they carry themselves. Carty (2005) says
that images perceived to be more of a traditional feminine role (i.e. sensual, dependency, value the

Judaism s Birth Ceremony
It is reasonable to state that both Judaism and Islam life ceremonies have multiple similarities and
dissimilarities between each. To further explain the birth and marriage ceremonies for Judaism and
Islam religions, allowing for a deeper understanding and comparison for each.
There are multiple rites that occur during the Judaism s birth ceremony. During the birth ceremony
three rituals occur; Brit Milah (circumcision ceremony) for boys, the Brit Habat (Simchat Habat) for
girls, and the naming of the infant. These three ceremonies happen on the eightieth day after birth for
the infant, unless there re medical issues to deal with beforehand. During Brit Milah the baby boy is

The parts that occur in a marriage ceremony for this religion are; procedures for completing a
marriage contract, a mohr (agreed amount of money) being set aside, a banquet for the couple and the
fact that men can have multiple wives. Some of these stages are part of ceremony such as; the
procedure for completing a marriage contract for which the bride grants her guardian, whom then
agrees with the groom about the terms of the marriage and the signing of the contract along with two
witnesses and the groom, followed by the public announcement of this contract and a banquet. Also, a
mohr is paid to the bride from the groom and men can marry up to four women if they can provide for

Hera And Hercules
The constellation I have chosen is Cancer. I chose this constellation because it is my zodiac sign.
Naturally, I found it interesting to learn about and write an essay on my discovery and creation theory.
Cancer is Latin for Crab , The name was chosen because the representation of the the constellation is
in fact a crab. The constellation is 506 sq. degrees and made up of faint stars. The creative theory of
Cancer is quite interesting actually. According to Greek mythology, Hercules was sent to battle with a
Lernaean Hydra. Hera (the queen of the gods) wanted to give Hercules a disadvantage in battle . So,
Hera s plan was to send a crab named Karkinos to distract Hercules. Hera s plan failed as Hercules

As a leader and not possessing these characteristic, would lead me to being an ineffective leader of
emotional intelligence. I would struggle with understanding and correctly interpreting my staff

result in the decrease of moral within the work environment. When the staff does not have a self worth
or interest within their job, the mission of the organization will not be fulfilled. If the mission of the

The Opposition Of The Privileged Has Been Around Since The...
The ruling of the privileged has been around since the conception of organized society. The state is
nothing but an instrument of oppression of one class by another no less so in a democratic republic
than in a monarchy. This is a quote from social scientist Fredrich Engels that shows the outlook of
most people towards a privileged ruling; this system was deemed unfair to the majority, which led to
monarchies, the main representative of minority ruling, losing their power. Although we believe the
true power in modern democratic societies rests on the majority, it truly rests with the powerful elite.
The basis for schlock sociology is that American society has become so complex and technical that a
new upper class has been created to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Moscovici, a major psychologist, he states that they also possess authority by bringing
attention to themselves and disrupting the established norm through their confidence in their
alternative views, which leads to the minority internalizing their views (Underwood). The major
distinguishing factors of the upper class compared to the rest of society is their education, occupation,
and their ideals. Most major leaders in any industry have attended top institutions that are known for
their prestigious alumni, it is shown that 54% of corporate leaders and 42% of political leaders only
attended twelve schools which include schools such as Yale and Stanford (Reynolds). Many of these
institutions do not just rely on good grades, but also on social profile and it is shown that it is
practically impossible to flunk out of American colleges since the seventies (Codevilla). These
persistent school trends show the close minded atmosphere that racks the upper class, which also leads
to less disagreements due to the fact that so many ideas receive no competition from other major
elites. Their occupations are also very consistent, they tend to command top societal posts which gives
them authority over financial, educational, social, civic, and cultural institutions (Reynolds). Many top
leaders who are not of the upper class through birth are socialized in, which

Banks
Over time, technology has increased in importance in Ghanaian banks. Traditionally, banks have
always sought media through which they would serve their clients more cost effectively as well as
increase the utility to their clientele. Their main concern has been to serve clients more conveniently,
and in the process increase profits and competitiveness. Electronic and communications technologies
have been used extensively in banking for many years to advance agenda of banks
In Ghana, the earliest forms of electronic and communications technologies used were mainly office
automation devices. Telephones, telex and facsimile were employed to speed up and make more
efficient, the process of servicing clients. For decades, they remained the main information and
communication technologies used for transacting bank business.
Later in the 1980s, as competition intensified and the personal computer (PC) got proletarian,
Ghanaian banks begun to use them in back office operations and later tellers used them to service
clients. Advancements in computer technology saw the banks networking their branches and
operations thereby making the one branch philosophy a reality. Barclays Bank (Gh.) and Standard

Similarities Between Patrick Tillman And Theseus
Theseus Versus Patrick Tillman
Heroes are made by the paths they choose, not the powers they are graced with brodi Ashton. To begin
with, Theseus is a great hero, even in our time; he drove away Medea with the help of his father,
Aegeus. Second of all, Theseus also defeated the Marathonian Bull, a mighty bull that is terrorizing
the city of Marathon and Theseus cautiously and captured the bull in the city. Theseus also defeated
the Minotaur that was living in the labyrinth in Athens, Greece; the Minotaur was hunting down the

Social Exposure And Through Important Life Events
Question 1: Faith inculcation can work in a variety of different ways, but the main two are by social
exposure and through important life events. If asked, anyone will say their faith was influenced by
either major figures in their life or an event that caused them to look at the world differently. My belief
is that there is no one way that someone gains his or her view of faith. It can be influenced by
countless conditions in which a single person experiences. Furthermore, when it comes to religion,
there are two kinds of people, those who have an overtime transformation of their current faith or a
sudden conversion of faith. To begin with, the first type is those who have been accustomed to his or

Is there a god that will take me in after I die? Does he judge me everyday based on my actions? This
event forced me to think more critically about the faith that I wanted to be associated with. For others,
it may be an event that causes them to become closer to the god they already believe in. An example is
getting married or having a child. These events allow people to praise the god they worship and give
thanks for doing something amazing in their life. Augustine (1997) states that, My faith, Lord, shall
call on Thee, which Thou hast given me, wherewith Thou hast inspired me, through the Incarnation of
Thy Son, through the ministry of the Preacher. This quote shows that the faith in which Augustine has
is based solely on God having given it to him. Also, in book one, Augustine states, but how shall they
call on Him in whom they have not believed? Or how shall they believe without a preacher?
Augustine brings up an interesting point about how can a person call upon God when that person has
never believed in him or does not have someone to guide them to God. This reinforces the idea that
when faced with a life altering experiences, we as humans search for something bigger to believe in.
We all want to believe there is something after life. Which has caused people to turn toward having
faith when there is nothing else to turn to.
Question 2: As Augustine reflects on his childhood in book one, he explains how he believes in
original sin because of how

Delisting the Grey Wolf Essay
Delisting the Grey Wolf
The United States Fish and Wildlife Service are considering removing the gray wolf from the
endangered species list once Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming have enough wolves to be deemed
sufficient to continue to expand the wolf population, requiring only that each of these three states have
a management plan in effect to prevent the gray wolf from becoming endangered again. With the
current attitude of the governments in these states, the wolf should not lose their federal support under
the Endangered Species Act as it would merely serve to cause the wolves to become endangered once
again, or at best, held to the absolute minimum population that the states can pass off as viable, self
sustaining populations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The state legislature has favored the ranching industry above ecology and continues to do so. Public
polls conducted by Boise State indicate that the overwhelming majority of Idahoans (nearly 70
percent) support wolf restoration (Laverty, par. 4) and the legislature is seeking to remedy this by re
educating the public with a balanced view of the impact of wolves on big game species, those sectors
of the economy dependent upon sport hunting, livestock, domestic animals, and humans (State, 3).
Furthermore, the cost of wolf reintroduction will be presented as a part of any public education
program including direct and indirect costs (State, 3).
This so called balanced view was presented in a program in which the most misrepresented issues
concerned the economic impact of wolves. Ranchers were allowed to claim unsubstantiated losses,
with no attempt to validate the accuracy of these claims (Laverty, par. 2). In granting the balanced
view sought by the legislature, the program portrayed the salt of the earth rancher as a poor victim of
the federal government s whim to restore the killers (Laverty, par. 2).
The lies by omission also showed up in this balanced view program, it failed to expose the enormous
subsidies that benefit

Examples Of A Christ Figure In One Flew Over The Cuckoo s...
Though every period of time, people often find themselves looking for a savior. While most people
turn for Jesus Christ or other religious figures, in the novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, by Ken
Kesey, the patients of a strictly run psychiatric ward turn to Randal Patrick McMurphy. Kesey uses
McMurphy to create a Christ Figure, or a character that shows allusions to Christ, in his work. Despite
being a patient, McMurphy finds a way to stand out as a Christ Figure through having his individual
thoughts and actions, rather than shrinking himself to what the ward wants him to be.
Recurringly, authors use direct relations between the new testament and their novel to show proof of a
Christ Figure. Kesey uses events like the fishing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ellis being nailed in this position that Christ was nailed in shows a direct relation to the novel and also
foreshadows to McMurphy, the Christ Figure, one day being lobotomized and taking on Ellis s traits
of immobility and helplessness. Ellis is also described as like a stuffed trophy (Kesey 16), which once
again shadows how McMurphy s story at the ward will end, sitting in the day room with his name next
to him to be used as an example, another trophy for the nurse.
Another direct relation between Jesus and McMurphy is the first time Chief Bromden, a large indian
man who has pretended to be deaf and dumb for over 15 years, speaks. When Chief speaks, he is alone
with McMurphy. McMurphy gives Chief a piece of gum, and this simple act is what gave Chief the
courage to speak. McMurphy demonstrated his ability to listen to people, and this is what truly made
Chief willing to speak to him. At the end of their conversation, Chief found himself wanting to touch
him because he s who he is. (Kesey 222) By this, we can see that Chief feels McMurphy has healed
him and listened because that is who he is. We also see the relation of healing powers through
believing that a touch can heal you from here

How Did Marie Antoinette Cause The French Revolution
Hayley Ross Mrs. Parks 1/24/15 Red Winter Research Paper We were born free and equal. Now we

equality. He believed that everyone is free and deserves equality but society puts people in different

The biggest thing she was victimized for was the diamond necklace scandal. In 1781 Marie Antoinette
was approached by Charles Boehmer about buying a necklace with 647 diamonds on it. Boehmer
created the necklace for Louis XV, before he could finish the necklace Boehmer died. Later on he
realized that he needed to sell the necklace to avoid financial ruin. When he approached Marie, she
knew it was way too expensive for her to buy and she would not wear something that was intended for
someone else. Boehmer continued to bother her to purchase it on several other occasions (Lotz 100).
Later on Marie s friend Jeanne informed Boehmer that she would be able to convince her to purchase
the necklace. After she promised him that she would get Marie to reconsider she went to Cardinal de
Rohan and told him that Marie wanted to purchase the necklace. She also told him that she didn t
think it was wise for her to purchase it in person. He agreed to negotiate the purchase of the necklace
with his own money (Lotz 104). Jeanne promised that Marie would pay him back over the next two
years. After Cardinal de Rohan came to an agreement with Boehmer, the jeweler, the necklace was
given to Jeanne so that she could give it to the queen. After Jeanne got hold of the necklace she then
gave it to her husband to go sell in London. Not knowing what happened, Boehmer waited for the
queen to show off his wonderful necklace, he waited feast day after feast day for her to wear it. He
decided to write a letter to her saying he was glad the necklace was in her hands. Marie Antoinette not
knowing what he was implying, burned the letter. Boehmer was having a financial crisis and need the
money that he was owed. He decided he did not want to approach the queen directly and decided to

Theories Of Personality Theory
Theories of Personality Dispositional and Evolutionary or Biological Personality Your Name
Institution Theories of Personality Dispositional and Evolutionary or Biological Personality Scientists
believe that personality is often a huge factor that determines the choices that we make in daily lives.
Personality is not unique to humans, animals also have distinct personalities; any pet owner will agree.
The question that we are first inclined to ask is what is personality? Why do we need it? The answer to
the first question is fairly simple; according to Feist Rosenberg (2009), personality is a pattern of
relatively permanent traits and unique characteristics that give both consistency and individuality to a
person s behaviour . There are two approaches as far as personality theories are concerned, viz.
dispositional theory and biological or trait based theories. These theories are constitute of many other
smaller theories. The primary theorists discussed in the following sections are Eysenck, Alloport,
Tupes, Goldberg and Christal. Dispositional Personality theory Dispositional personality theory is a
combination of theories with a central theme; all of them attribute personality to innate attributes of an
individual. According to the dispositional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Other proponents of the trait based model of personality was Allport, (1961) who divided personality
into cardinal traits, central traits and secondary traits. According to Allport, the cardinal traits are most
important as an individual s main life choices are determined by these traits. The Central traits
determine the rules for daily interactions and most people have five to ten central traits. Finally, the
secondary traits are occasional attributes that are displayed only under special

`` True Freedom `` By Langston Hughes
America is known as the land of the free, but is anyone really free? One might view freedom as
abolished slavery, but true freedom gives one the ability to make choices and act on decisions. True
freedom might be gained through lessons learned from history, from accomplishing and seeing dreams
become reality, or from standing up for beliefs. Langston Hughes, an American poet known for his
writing during the Harlem Renaissance period said, In all my life, I have never been free. I have never
been able to do anything with freedom, except in the field of my writing. (citation). As a young
African American man, Hughes faced man obstacles, but writing gave him a sense of freedom of
expression. His poetry reached people of various social, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People of all nations and beliefs have the right to experience freedom from injustice and to live in
peace and equality no matter what they look like or believe. In the line, I ve seen its muddy bosom
turn all golden in the sunset, (cite) Hughes use of the words muddy bosom symbolizes brown skin.
Although some may not see the beauty in the muddiness, rivers can turn golden or beautiful in the
sunset. If people would take the time to get to know others and not judge them by their outward
appearance, they could see the beauty within the soul. Like rivers, people have a past that helped
shape them. Each person, like a river has deep roots, perseverance, and a need for freedom and
understanding. Rivers are confined by land as people are confined by laws, but just as rivers can
change course, people can change society. Langston Hughes, like the rivers in The Negro Speaks of
Rivers, preserved in the face of adversity as he forged new streams of thought.
In Harlem, another example of the struggle for true freedom is represented as Langston Hughes
questions, What happens to a dream deferred? (cite) Hughes explores the reality of what happens to
people when they are unable to accomplish

The Goal A Process Engineering Novel
I read Eliyahu M. Goldratt s novel The Goal the other night, instead of sleeping.
The book has two parts. In the first 264 pages, a manufacturing plant manager turns his failing plant
into a tremendous success. That part of the book ends with the manager s promotion to a position with
oversight over several failing plants. In the second part of the book (73 pages), the manager prepares
for his new job by trying to deduce a repeatable process of ongoing improvement. He s trying to make
sense of what happened in the first part of the book so he ll have half a chance of repeating that
success on a greater scale.
For now, I ll set aside considerations of why The Goal is a novel, how effective it is as a book,
whether it succeeds as literature, and so on. This article is primarily about the ideas behind the book,
and why some are valuable while others are probably quite useless.

  • 2. Guildford County Case Study The population in Guildford county at the end of 2017 was 526,953, according to the US census bureau, and Forsyth s population was 371,511, In 1990 the populations were 349,135 and 266,855 respectively. Some contributing factors for the increase in population are, the location of the counties, and the amount of higher learning institutions in the area. In 2017 the growth rate of the population in Guilford county was up 0.73% from the previous year, while Forsyth s rate of growth was higher at 0.95%. ( cite world population) The location of both counties makes them attractive options for those who want to be close to larger cities, such as, Charlotte and Raleigh but have no desire to live in rural areas. These counties had the allure of being a manufacturing hub. Textile plants like Cone Mills, R.J. Reynolds tobacco plant, Western Electric with their electronic engineering facility, and the expansion of the High Point furniture market allowed Guilford and Forsyth to flourish into the 90s. Many of those people chose to stay in the area and learn a different trade after the manufacturing plants moved overseas. * maybeNow there are new industries on ... Whether it be learning a new language, raising their children, work, housing, accessing services, transportation, cultural barriers, and many more. But, have we as society really thought who is to blame for this and why as we should care. How this affects them in the long run. Having all these different emotion inside them from the not knowing. There are about 1.5 million children and youth that are brought over undocumented. . In the book Lives in Limbo there is a saying which goes ni de aqui ni de alla meaning that they don t feel like they belong to either side. They know they don t belong here because everyone is telling them they don t belong but then they don t belong from where they came from because they grew up here and that s all they know. Many of these children are often faced with discrimination, racial profiling, bullying, forcibly taken away from their families and even deportation. These events can not only scar them but cause them severe issues while growing up. They can become depressed, have anxiety, PTSD, and become socially isolated. These children should not have to experience these types of situations. Many of these children lose their only support system . In some cases some of the youth became so hopeless that they their last resort was suicide. The first problem immigrants face is language. • 4. Essay on Shamanism Shamanism Shamanism in Anthropology has been an entity in a constant metamorphosis. It has always been considered exotic and its existence around the globe was never contradicted. However, over the years it did not receive the scholarly attention that it so requires. The age of discovery garnered a multitude of information on shamanism all over the world. The reporters invested a great deal of accuracy in the gathering of the information, but their observational skills were mostly underdeveloped. Furthermore as could be expected, they saw and evaluated things solely on the basis of European religion and social customs (Flaherty, 1992, pp.3) without having it necessary to view its ramifications to the people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nevertheless, differences did emerge that transformed the definition of shamanism in anthropology in that it added more to this vague definition. According to Mircea Eliade the shaman who is an inspired priest, in ecstatic trance ascends to the heavens on trips . In the cause of these journeys the shaman persuades or even fights with the gods in order to secure benefits for his fellow men. Here, in the opinion of Eliade, spirit possession is not an essential characteristics and is no always present (Eliade, 1951, pp.434). He goes on by stating that the quot;specific element of shamanism is not the incorporation of spirits by the shaman but the ecstasy provoked by the ascension to the sky quot;(pp.434). That is to say that the incorporation of spirit possession does not necessarily belong to shamanism. Therefore, from Eliade s view point we see that there is a wedge between shamanism and spirit possession (Lewis,1971, pp.49). This was a view that was prevalent in the study of shamanism in anthropology at the time. Other writers on the subject clearly accepted this view as expressed by Luc de Heusch. He sought to develop these ideas into an ambitious, formalistic theory of religious phenomena. He states that shamanism and spirit possession are an antithetical process. The first is an ascent of man to the gods, the second the descent of the gods on men (Lewis,1971,pp.50). So ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Enormouse Wealth of CEO s Let me start off by saying 2.27 billion. What does that make you think of? Some of you may think it is the population of a specific continent? Others may think it is the amount of petroleum being drilled for. I am sure none of you would have guessed it was the amount of money Mark Zuckerburg, the creator of Facebook, made in one year. Executive compensation is bonuses and benefits given to CEO s of companies on top of the base salary they are receiving. The amount, as you see, can be astronomical which will lead one to question the ethics of employee compensation programs. While it may motivate some people to perform better so they may increase stockholders wealth, it may also have an adverse effect on the executive which will have an effect on the entire company as was the case with Enron. I am taking up Business Economics and Research has led me to the conclusion that employee compensation is unethical, detrimental to the health of companies, and disadvantageous to the entire economy. Executive compensation is a form of financial compensation that is determined by the compensation committee. The compensation committee sets the package so it correlates with factors that have an effect on the company. According to an economic theory known as the Optimal Contracting Theory. , top executives and shareholders negotiate through the board of directors to maximize their respective interests (Managerial). A principal/agent problem arises because shareholders need to get the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Examples Of A Christ Figure In One Who Flew Over The... Randle McMurphy: A Christ Figure A book that understands the inside secrets of society darkest reality: mental institutions. In his novel, One Who Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, Ken Kesey writes about hidden realities of numerous patients. The setting of the novel takes place inside of a mental institution. While getting to know the characters, the story is being narrated by Chief Bromden, who is mute, and the ward is run by Nurse Ratched, also known as the Big Nurse. The story is turned upside down by Randle McMurphy when set out to change the ward and the patients inside. The book highlights the social differences between ward and the outside world. In the novel, the author portrays Randle McMurphy as a Christ Figure which allows the rest of the characters to demonstrate their humanity instead of being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through the novel, Kesey illustrates McMurphy as an archetype to portray the parallels between McMurphy and a Christ Figure. Early on in the novel, McMurphy brings to the ward a zest for life and an insistence upon individuality and exploration (Vitkus 56). He allows for the patients to reawakened without fear of the consequence. He can serve as an enthusiasm causing the patients to smile and laugh with being frightened of being analyzed by the nurses. Another instance, McMurphy is crucified when he was sent to the electrical shock therapy, the way he laid on the table ironically, like a cross, with a crown of electric sparks in place of thorns (Kesey). This illustration of McMurphy on the tables, self scaring himself to protect the patient and to be brave for Bromden proves his willingness to save them. By him on the table laying the way Christ died, simulates the ward lack of humanity. Similarly to Jesus, one of McMurphy s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Long-Term Care Reimbursement Analysis Long Term Care Reimbursement Who Covers Reimbursement for Long Term Care Long term care has many funding sources which includes government funding, privet insurance, out of pocket payments, and any combination of any of these programs. Privet insurance includes insurance for long term care and managed care (HMO, PPO, POS). While government funding includes Supplemental security income, Department of veteran affairs, Older American act, Medicare, and Medicaid. With Medicare and Medicaid providing the most funding to long term care (Pratt, 2016, p. 292 306). If Medicare and Medicaid are the biggest funders for long term care what services do they cover, who do they cover, and what restrictions are put on the recipeits? An Overview of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So why isn t insurance for those sixty five and older the biggest payer of long term care? This contradiction to what you would think is a result of the restrictions put on long term care by both types of insurance. Medicaid only sets the restriction that the person must be over twenty one, have a medical need (verified by a doctor) for help with their daily living, and the care be given in a Medicaid certified facility. If these requirements are met Medicaid will cover nursing facilities, home health, and some day care facilities. However, each state set their own services so the Medicaid eligible services may be different from state to state (Meedicaid.gov, n.d). Medicare on the other hand does not cover long term care that helps with the functioning of everyday life. Medicare only covers subacute care weather in your home or a facility. With the requirements being that the facility must be at a Medicare licensed facility, the patient has to be transferred from an acute hospital, the transfer must be prescribed by a doctor, and or the patient must have been released from a hospital stay within the last sixty days (CMS, 2014). Medicaid pays for long term care users who have difficulty living everyday life, performing everyday activities, and have a lifelong medical disorder needing assistance to function at just about any age. While, Medicare pays for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This began around the mid 20th century and has rapidly grown with the expansion of social media, and influencers such as rapper B.o.B and basketball player Shaquille O Neal. This society believes that the Earth is a flat disk, similar to the United Nations Flag (Figure 1), where the sun works as a spotlight to create night and day.(Figure 2) The Sun revolves around the north pole and changes position when creating the seasons. • 9. Ethics and Privatization of Public Systems Essay Ethics problems of privatizing water supply services. Paper submitted for Ethics class, with good reseach on Chinese market. Privatization of public systems has been going on in both developed and developing countries for many years, maybe with more strength on developing countries in the last decade because of their higher reliance on public companies. The inefficiency of many public companies and its burden to the countries bearing them has been probably the reason most commonly used to justify them. Other reasons have also been: expertise of the private companies, fewer capital funds needed to start the project (in case of new projects) and less resources needed from the government to control the day to day operations from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For improving the economic results of a firm there are two possibilities a) reducing costs b) increasing revenues: a) Reducing costs: This is normally attained in two ways for water companies, utilizing more efficient modern equipment which per se doesn t imply any ethical problem (but this has an attached higher investment cost) or reducing labor cost, which could lead to difficult decisions. Another way of reducing costs, for new projects that require building infrastructure, is by supplying water only to the sector of the people who can afford paying for the services. The layering of the pipe network is a very expensive part of the construction of a new water supply system, and thus private companies could save money by not supplying areas were water consumption is low, or were they expect to have difficulties collecting the fees. b) Increasing revenues: to raise the prices of water supply to customers. This has two ethical issues bound: a. First, the reduction of the access to water to lower income users due to its higher cost, or at least the reduction of the amount of water they can use. b. The quick rise of prices of water before the quality of supply is improved can confuse and irate the consumers. Seeing the ethical issues that will arise to private companies in charge of supplying water to people, should they be left alone to take the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Depletion Of The Natural Resources In the past recent years, the depletion of the natural resources has become the area of major attention throughout the world. These resources include the fossil fuels, minerals, natural vegetation, animals, air, water, sunlight, soil, etc. The rate of its consumption is increasing day by day. This ultimately leads to the ceasing of the resources to the earth s crust. The rising demand of these resources has led to a limited supply of these resources which has serious impacts to environmental damages like air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution and the depletion of the ozone layer. Thus, there is an urgent need for mainly the industries to find an alternative approach reducing its unwanted effect on the environment. Manufacturing plays a very important role in an organization particularly to build competitive benefit and improve performance. • 12. The Affordable Healthcare Act And The Catholic Faith The Affordable Healthcare Act and the Catholic Faith The healthcare system of the United States was established as a system of health and welfare programs created to provide affordable treatment to the citizens of the United States. Recently, the Affordable Health Care Act was passed changing the structure of the system (Mulvany, 2012). While in theory the new arrangement works, it has its flaws due to the resulting cost, slowness, and the government interfering with religious and personal beliefs. These problems have led many people to question the role of the government in the life of the individual. The Supreme Court s favorable ruling on the Affordable Health Care Act allowed for healthcare to be available for many Americans who would otherwise not receive medical benefits. This is because it increases the number of people covered by Medicare/Medicaid, and lowers the cost of insurance through employers. While this idea is good in theory, paying for it is a challenge due to the fact that it will only add to the nation s already enormous debit of several trillion dollars (Mulvany, 2012). From 2010 2019, the United States is predicted to spend around 400 billion dollars on healthcare. This prediction has prompted lawmakers to reduce spending on Medicare, Medicaid and other welfare programs. The spending cuts will result in less people getting the care they need due to the limited availability of money for care and the increase in the number of beneficiaries receiving ... Parnell was able to wield more power within parliament than O Connell due to the weak governments of the time. In 1885 the IPP held the balance of power, which allowed Parnell to use his political skill to earn the prospect of home rule. The fact that both the Conservative and Liberal parties had promised a Home Rule Bill shows the power Parnell held and the possibility that existed for real, more attainable changes in Ireland. The passing of The Ashbourne Act as a statement of Conservative will demonstrates this. It can be argued that the Home Rule Bill was an achievement in itself and opened Westminster to the possibility of home rule. I do not believe the break up of the Liberal party was a disaster for Irish nationalist hopes of home rule as Gladstone was able to attempt a second bill in 1892. Common behaviors construct and reinforce gendered practices as well as differential distribution of privilege, power, and resources. In western culture, it is stressed that a womanly body figure and behavior contradicts with a body and behavior of an athlete (Krane et al. 2004). When Chief speaks, he is alone with McMurphy. McMurphy gives Chief a piece of gum, and this simple act is what gave Chief the courage to speak. McMurphy demonstrated his ability to listen to people, and this is what truly made Chief willing to speak to him. At the end of their conversation, Chief found himself wanting to touch him because he s who he is. (Kesey 222) By this, we can see that Chief feels McMurphy has healed him and listened because that is who he is. The biggest thing she was victimized for was the diamond necklace scandal. In 1781 Marie Antoinette was approached by Charles Boehmer about buying a necklace with 647 diamonds on it. Boehmer created the necklace for Louis XV, before he could finish the necklace Boehmer died. Later on he realized that he needed to sell the necklace to avoid financial ruin. When he approached Marie, she knew it was way too expensive for her to buy and she would not wear something that was intended for someone else. Boehmer continued to bother her to purchase it on several other occasions (Lotz 100). Later on Marie s friend Jeanne informed Boehmer that she would be able to convince her to purchase the necklace. After she promised him that she would get Marie to reconsider she went to Cardinal de Rohan and told him that Marie wanted to purchase the necklace. She also told him that she didn t think it was wise for her to purchase it in person. He agreed to negotiate the purchase of the necklace with his own money (Lotz 104). Jeanne promised that Marie would pay him back over the next two years. After Cardinal de Rohan came to an agreement with Boehmer, the jeweler, the necklace was given to Jeanne so that she could give it to the queen. After Jeanne got hold of the necklace she then gave it to her husband to go sell in London. One might view freedom as abolished slavery, but true freedom gives one the ability to make choices and act on decisions. True freedom might be gained through lessons learned from history, from accomplishing and seeing dreams become reality, or from standing up for beliefs. Langston Hughes, an American poet known for his writing during the Harlem Renaissance period said, In all my life, I have never been free. I have never been able to do anything with freedom, except in the field of my writing. (citation). In the line, I ve seen its muddy bosom turn all golden in the sunset, (cite) Hughes use of the words muddy bosom symbolizes brown skin. Although some may not see the beauty in the muddiness, rivers can turn golden or beautiful in the sunset. If people would take the time to get to know others and not judge them by their outward appearance, they could see the beauty within the soul. Like rivers, people have a past that helped shape them. Each person, like a river has deep roots, perseverance, and a need for freedom and understanding. Rivers are confined by land as people are confined by laws, but just as rivers can change course, people can change society. Langston Hughes, like the rivers in The Negro Speaks of Rivers, preserved in the face of adversity as he forged new streams of thought. In Harlem, another example of the struggle for true freedom is represented as Langston Hughes questions, What happens to a dream deferred? (Well, this is what the book says.) jorendorff.com Articles The Goal The Goal A Process Engineering Novel I read Eliyahu M. Goldratt s novel The Goal the other night, instead of sleeping. The book has two parts. In the first 264 pages, a manufacturing plant manager turns his failing plant into a tremendous success. That part of the book ends with the manager s promotion to a position with oversight over several failing plants. He s trying to make sense of what happened in the first part of the book so he ll have half a chance of repeating that success on a greater scale. For now, I ll set aside considerations of why The Goal is a novel, how effective it is as a book, whether it succeeds as literature, and so on. This article is primarily about the ideas behind the book, and why some are valuable while others are probably quite useless. How to Turn Around a Failing Plant
