Teacher Evaluation Essay
1. Teacher Evaluation Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of teacher evaluation can present various challenges, as it requires a
thoughtful analysis and an objective assessment of an educator's performance. Firstly, the
complexity lies in the need for a balanced perspective – avoiding overly positive or negative
biases. Striking this balance demands a comprehensive understanding of the criteria used for
teacher evaluation, including classroom management, instructional techniques, and student
engagement.
Another difficulty arises from the necessity to conduct thorough research. This may involve
reviewing official evaluation systems, exploring educational theories, and analyzing empirical
studies on effective teaching methods. The essay should not only reflect the author's opinions but
also be grounded in credible sources, adding depth and validity to the arguments presented.
Furthermore, the writer must navigate the ethical considerations involved in critiquing an
individual's professional abilities. Constructive criticism is essential, but it must be delivered with
sensitivity and fairness. Balancing the need for honesty with the importance of maintaining a
respectful tone can be challenging.
Additionally, organizing the essay in a coherent and logical manner is crucial. The author must
decide on a suitable structure that allows for a smooth flow of ideas and arguments. Addressing
different aspects of teacher evaluation, such as the role of student feedback, peer observations,
and administrative assessments, requires careful arrangement to avoid confusion.
In conclusion, writing a teacher evaluation essay demands a nuanced approach, requiring a
delicate balance of objectivity, research, ethical considerations, and organizational skills. Despite
the challenges, mastering this task can lead to a deeper understanding of educational practices
and contribute to ongoing discussions on improving teaching methodologies.

3. California Cuisine Essay
California leads as the largest agricultural powerhouse and farm income in the
United States by providing for consumers over two hundred types of crops; and
represents about 73% of the state s agricultural revenues collected from crops
(Economy of California, 2009). The perception of Californian cuisine is based on the
fact that Californiahas lots of agricultural products from which a variety of fresh
ingredients are made. The foundation of today s Californian cuisine and how it has
flourished in to its current style can be considered very subjective or can be defined
as individual s opinion based on their own experiences .In general, Californian
cuisine is characterized by different combinations of local cuisine of California.

There are also plenty of other restaurants that include: Baja Fresh, Taco Bell, Qdoba
Mexican Grill, Chevy s Fresh Mex, and Chipotle Mexican Grill. Mexican influences
are not the only characterization of Californian cuisine.
California is a huge melting pot of different cultures, which not only reflects in
California culture but also in cuisine. The population of California shows dramatic
change of size from year to year especially from Hispanics and Asians population.
There are also a growing percentage of multiracial populations. California is much
more diverse than many other states and because of this degree of diversity has
brought together many different walks of life including food. Fusion cuisine is very
popular in California and because of the diversity it brings together many flavors.
One example is Wolfgang Puck, who began his fame as a chef in Southern
California with fusion Chinese and French cuisine. There are many other chefs that
have contributed and played a role to the growing of Californian cuisine. One chef
that is famous to the actual birth of Californian cuisine is Alice Waters, in the early
1970s, and her restaurant known as Chez Panisse in Berkeley, California (Shearer,
2008). Alice Waters believe that Californian cuisine as cooking should be based on
the finest and freshest seasonal ingredients that are produced sustainable and locally

4. Mark Mandela, Martin Luther King, Jr., And Mohandas
Gandhi
In previous world confrontations, violence has proven to be the key to success,
however this is not always the case for many great world leaders have used the
strategy known as civil disobedience and other non harmful acts. With these
strategies the leaders were able to successfully achieve their goal. Non violence
comes in many different forms such as, boycotts, freedom rides, sit ins and
marches. One other form of non violence is to intentionally disobey the law in a
calm and peaceful manner. Non violence has attained many leaders goals in different
eras. However, three of the most popular leaders used this strategy to influence the
world were: Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., and Mohandas Gandhi. These
men were three of the most influential leaders to use the non violence strategy.
Gandhi was the first man to use this strategy in his birthplace of India when they
went in a battle with the British to fight for Indian independence. Gandhi believed
that the people of India deserved to be their own person and have their own
personality without the consent of the British. He believed that they should be able to
make their own political choices and dress the way they wanted to without the British
telling them what to do and how to do it. Nelson Mandela practiced the non violence
strategy during the South African struggle to overthrow Apartheid. He joined the
ANC, (African National Congress) in hope of a new future. That led to the start of his
involvement in the South

William Brewster and Separatist Pilgrims Immigration to America Elder William
Brewster, of the Mayflower, was appointed ruling elder of the Pilgrims in Holland.
He was a man of erudition and acted in the capacity of elder till 1629 (Savery 168).
In a genealogy book written by my paternal great grandmother, Henrietta Savery
and through my interview with my paternal grandmother (Joyce Bradley), I learned
that my ancestor, William Brewster immigrated to America on the Mayflower. Elder
William Brewster was a great leader and the only person who had attended a
university on the Mayflower (Gragg 64). He led the Separatists from Leiden, Holland
along with William Bradford. My ancestors immigration mirrored the other arrivals of

The English were most bothered by the general Dutch attitude toward morality and
especially its potential impact on their children (Gragg 87 88). The culture of the
Dutch contrasted with that of the English because the Dutch men drank more
frequently, and the women were seen as bold (Gragg 89). Pilgrims on the
Mayflower originally planned to remain in Holland, but chose to go to America
because of Holland s low paying jobs, different lifestyle, and the growing religious
tensions in Holland (Gragg 97 98). A plan was made to leave Holland in 1617 by
selected church leaders, including Brewster (Gragg 99 102). In order to leave the
Netherlands, the Pilgrims needed money. Brewster received financing from some
London merchants to establish a colony in Virginia (Gragg 102). The Pilgrims left
the Netherlands in July of 1620 and sailed back to England on the Speedwell because
the Mayflower was in England (Gragg 117). On September 6, 1620, a group of
Separatists left Plymouth, England on the Mayflower (Gragg 144).

Jack London s The Story of an Eyewitness is a first person account of the San
Francisco Earthquake of 1906 and the destruction caused by the fires that large
earthquake. The National Archives article reports the same event is a third person
account and differs from London s account in several ways. London s eyewitness
article provides information, uses real pictures, and uses literary techniques like

people from the labor ghetto, had fled all day as well. They had left their homes

What was happening to the city during this massacre. At nine o clock Jack London
was walking in the city. He said that every building had its watchman at the door.
And yet it was doomed, all of it. There was no water. The dynamite was giving out
and at right angles two different conflagrations were sweeping down upon it. Then
he went back one o clock in the morning and said That there was no fire but still

7. Strengths And Weaknesses
After I completed self tests online, I discovered that my management strengths and
weaknesses that need to be developed for future management lays between the
following four managerial skills, leadership, teamwork, self management and
professionalism , (Hedman,2016). I believe my strength in management is the
teamwork and weaknesses are leadership, self management and Professionalism.
Having already worked in more teamwork needed environment previously like
McDonalds and Hungry Jacks, where each employee is allocated to diverse jobs
such as the register or drive thru and team members helping other staffs when they
are having trouble in a situation to please each customer. I therefore believe that
my teamwork has improved as the result of working there at an early young age
because it didn t take me long to become a team supervisor when I joined Coles
afterwards. After I joined Coles I was able to contribute my own thoughts
successfully with others, taking a share of the duty, being self confident rather than
passive or aggressive, and of course more importantly working confidently within a
group , (Al Rawi, 2008). Teamwork is very important in the current workplace as
teamwork have existed for many years and have been celebrated throughout many
countries and cultures , (Essien,2002). Therefore, corporations are much more likely
to perform well when its employees work effectively as a team, this is because
teamwork generates collaboration where the collective effect of the
8. Single Sex Schools Should Be Taught
Single sex schools, a highly controversial topics on all aspects of the academic and
psychological field. Attending a single sex school affects girls, and boys differently
as these schools adjust accordingly by basing their methods and practices off of
recent experiments and surveys. Hidden behind the blurring lines of the boring and
distasteful downfall of single sex schools are the uptick in student minds that these
administrations manipulate to enhance one s learning experience. In this great
controversy the side to argue for is undeniable; the fact that students learn better in
all boys and all girls schools is significantly proven and expressed within public

Boys in all boys schools are more than twice as likely to study subjects such as
foreign languages, art, music, and drama (Trickett). These were all listed as
unlikely classes for the students of these genders to take, yet within a new
environment the students may feel more comfortable and participate in the listed
classes. Possibly more important than proving the power of these schools is how
they empower their students; mainly through their school environment and
utilizing how boys, and girls learn differently. There is a vast region of differences
set in how girls, and boys learn differently; with schools using this information they
are able to empower and better educate their students. Peter Meyer makes this a
key point to bring up in: Kathy Piechura Couture, a professor at the Institute for
Educational Reform at Stetson University in Deland, Florida, has studied children
at the Woodward elementary school in Deland, which has had separate classes for
boys and girls for three years. She concluded that boys and girls are different
enough that they demand, or should be offered, separate schools. We looked at gain
scores and concluded that there is a significant difference for boys when put in
separate classes, says Piechura Couture. Over the years, she explains, other
researchers have discovered a significant number of differences between boys and
girls that affect their learning abilities at any given

10. Superstition And Religion
Superstition and Religion: How It Affects Western and Eastern Medicine My
personal experiences with religion and superstition are skewed due to the
evolvement of the way I perceive things today. Furthermore, I can easily realize that
I do not have this one set mind where everything should revolve around God and the
Catholic Church. Taking time to understand why certain things happen for a reason,
and gradually becoming aware of what people choose to believe in shaped my
personal views on religionand the beliefs of unseen forces today. Based on Marvin
Harris, the world may never have a solid answer as to why and how cultures decided
to establish religious beliefs as well as superstition. As for the Hmong culture,
however, there is a sign of major controversy with beliefs in religion and superstition.
The practices of Eastern and Western medicine will meet in the middle despite culture
clashes.
The reasons behind why people believe in religion as well as how religious culture
has evolved can be seen in Marvin Harris article, Why We Became Religious .
Harris, an anthropologist, defines the differences between spiritual beliefs and
superstition. People perceive the importance of the role of spirituality as well as the
unseen. Harris exemplifies this point with the term mana , which means magical
power in the Melanesian language. He goes on to discuss how Western culture
expresses the concepts of luck with baseball players who touch their caps or spit and
rub into
11. Enlightenment Vs Enlightenment
The biggest life long journey that anyone can go through is the never ending
search for enlightenment and self knowledge. Our own personal journey starts
with self reflection and to become our own person. How do we do that when we
have been molded since childhood to think, believe, and act how others have
always told us to? In Kant s What is Enlightenment , he breaks down how to
achieve what he considers to be true enlightenment. Kant defines enlightenment as
a release from self incurred tutelage. By self incurred tutelage here he meant
immaturity and he describes immaturity as the inability of a person to make use of
their own understanding and reasons without the help of others. The motto of
Enlightenment is: Sapere aude! or Dare to know! Have the courage to use one s
own understanding. He asks us to be rational, he says we should not obey
authorities like parents, law enforcement, and even spiritual leaders. If you want to
obey them, first rationalize and then obey, otherwise you are not rational or ethical.
He asks us to become rational and think for ourselves for every action we perform
without the help of others. He then described the reasons behind the immaturity that
is so prevalent in a person. He says laziness and cowardice are the reasons why
such a large part of mankind gladly remain minors all their lives, long after nature
has freed them from external guidance. By laziness here he is referring to the mental
laziness; that nobody wants to exert
12. Fluoride Effects
Fluoride is the ionic form of the element fluorine, different in chemical and physical
properties. It is most usually used in compounds for industry, however, it can be
added to water sources. Few areas in the UK have fluoridated tap water, providing
them with key nutrients needed by the body and an efficient method of preventing
tooth decay. On the other hand, there has been speculation linking fluorideto certain
disorders and diseases which has caused concern within the country.
Although Fluoridated water carries many health benefits there have been numerous
theories linked to negative conditions. This causes people to fear what is being put
into their water, raising concerns such as how will this affect our children and other
safety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When fluoridation plans came about in 1964 it was estimated that only 10% of
children would be affected by fluorosis, however cases have since exceeded such
estimations. There are three forms of fluorosis; mild, moderate and severe.
Although nearly all cases are considered amongst the mild category there is still
evidence of negative effects, enough to make people sceptical. Along with fluoride
being harmful to teeth it was found to damage soft tissues and bones. Recently
there have been 24 studies performed which found links to reduced IQ in children
exposed to amounts of fluoride. However, these tests were not tested with
fluoridated water. When added to water it is in compound form, for example as
sodium fluoride, therefore reducing its toxicity. It is also well known that
susceptibility to the fluoride toxins varies greatly between individuals. Fluorosis is
the most common disorder which fluoride creates. It is almost always having a
cosmetic effect leaving white streaks on teeth as well as altering the appearance of
growing teeth in children. The fact that it leaves permanent damage to the tooth s
enamel means that parents are highly reluctant to having such a harmful chemical in
their water. This is not only a common theme in the UK, only 11 countries in the
world have more than 50% of their population drinking fluoridated water. With only
about 6 million people supplied with fluoridated water, it means only 10% of the UK
has agreed to the legislations. This shows that very few people agree with its benefits.
Anti fluoride campaigns are most prominent in Manchester and London, two major

In this research paper I will focus on Sor Juana s ability to challenge the patriarchal
rule in Colonial Mexico through her the patterns language, and the publishing of
her work in order to find out how her writing empowered more women writers. In
order to answer my question, I will focus on male authority and will work to
analyze how patterns, rhetoric, and overall publication of Sor Juana s work
challenge the power dynamic..The question I want answer is how Sor Juana s work
was able to alter cultural attitudes that did not permit women to pursue education and
intellectual exploration. My argument is that through her critical language and the act
of producing her poems Sor Juana is able to challenge the oppressive society run by
males therefore creating a change in the gender norms of her time. This is based off
of research of the history of patriarchy in Colonial Mexico, critical analyses of Sor
Juana s writing, understanding of the impact of her writing, and articles suggesting
that Sor Juana was influential in altering culture in Mexico. Particularly, I found it
interesting that articles explored her language focusing on the gender role she
discusses. In this essay I will explore the restrictive cultural norms that pushed Sor
Juana to enter the convent as a way to continue writing and publish her work and
then proceed to analyze how her writing reflects her

The purpose of this research study is to identify the reasons why the National
Hockey League suffers from low television ratings while the National Football
League thrives in television ratings. The NHL has a very avid fan base and
attendance in most markets for the sport is consistently high. However, there seems
to be a lack of ability to translate that success to the television viewers. The National

It has a strong and avid fan base in the United States and Canada. However, the
league continually struggles to compete with other American professional sports
leagues when it comes to television ratings. Specifically the National Football
League is one of the most successful brands in the sports world and has taken hold
as the most popular sport in the United States today. The questions that need to be
answered are how can the NHL market their product to the consumer through
television in a way that can compete with the NFL? Why has the NFL been so
successful where the NHL has not? In what areas of marketing through television
can the NHL improve? How does the sport itself affect the television ratings?
Finally, is there a saturation in the sports television market that does not allow the
NHL to reach comparable television ratings as the NFL? There are three major
areas to focus on in this research. First, it must be determined where the NHL
struggles in the television ratings market by taking a look at all demographic
statistics. Secondly, an in depth look into previous research conducted on television
ratings for both the NHL and the NFL. Finally, a breakdown of how each league
presently markets their product with a focus on comparing and contrasting those
methods to determine where the NFL is so successful and where the NHL can
improve.
Watching sports on television has become an American pastime in itself. It was not

15. Fice Of Fair Trading V Abbey National Lord Phillips Essay
In the case of the Office of Fair Trading v Abbey National Lord Phillips stated I
think personally I would have been quite in favour of the OFT looking into bank
charges, if I had complete freedom to decide.... but the statute said it was not
within their terms of reference Lord Phillips makes it very clear that decisions in
cases are tied to legal rules, however what is the role of legal rules in judicial
decision making? There are different schools of thought with regards to that
question. This essay will explore those differences. Firstly we shall consider the
perspectives of the formalists, what was their view of applying rules. Continuing
onto the American Legal Realists views, assumptions and looking at their two
main critiques of formalism, rule and fact scepticism. We shall also review the
theories of H.L.A. Hart regarding the application of legal rules. By analysing some
modern day cases and examples we will further compare and contrast formalism,
realism and Hart. Finally we shall review aspects of the essay and draw
conclusions. Formalists were legal theorists of the late 19th century. Formalism
was regarded as a way of a mechanical interpretation of the law. Using syllogism, a
logical process, judges selected an appropriate legal rule. This was applied
rationally to the facts of the case and from this a conclusion was objectively
deduced. This was regarded as a scientific process removing subjectivity where the
correct decisions were inherent
16. Impact Of Caroline Chisholm
The impact of the movement of peoples to Australia is evident in an examination of
the life of Caroline Chisholm. She was born on the 30th of May 1808, in
Northampton, England and was one of sixteen children. She was brought up as a
Christian girl in the tradition of Evangelical philanthropy meaning she continued in
life doing a lot of charitable work and was an extremely progressive 19th century
humanitarian philanthropist. Her major passion in life was to promote immigrationto
Australia and particularly look after single, unsupported women arriving on the
shores of Australia.
Caroline Chisholm, along with her husband, Captain Archibald and their children,
were granted a two year leave due to her husband s ill health after being in India and
rather than returning to England they thought Australia s climate would benefit him
more. So, in September 1838 they arrived in the Emerald Isle, Sydney.
Chisholm s work as philanthropist didn t start when she moved to Sydney,
Australia. It was actually in June 1833 when she joined her husband who was
serving in the army in Madras, India. She became aware of the poor daughters who
were picking up bad behaviours after being around the soldiers. So, in June 1834
Caroline founded the Female School of Industry for the Daughters of European
Soldiers. This provided a practical education for the girls, which included; instruction

18. The Conflict Between The Between Civilizational Blocks,...
Huntington predicted that future clashes will occur between civilizational blocks,
Muslim and Christians or Muslin and Hindu for example. However, the Lebanese
and Bangladeshi cases show that clashes occur between civilizations as shown above,
but also within civilizational blocks or even within religious groups . Before going
further into Lebanons and Bangladesh s history, a brief review of Islammust be done.
Muslims are split into two mains branches: Sunnis and Shia. The origin of this
division was a dispute right after the death of the Islam s founder, Prophet
Muhammad, in 932. The subject of the dispute is Who should lead the Muslim
community? . In the whole world there is a broad majority of Sunnis, who
represents between 80 to 90% of Muslims and Shia Muslims are representing only
10% of the Muslim population. Shia Muslims and Sunnits Muslims share many
fundamental practices and beliefs, these two religions have co exists for many
centuries. However, some ritual, theology or religious organisation triggers to
sporadic fights. During many century Sunni Muslims were marginalized, but in 80 s,
we saw their emergence, in Lebanon with creation of Hezbollah and in Irak after
Sadam Hussein s fall. Lebanon is composed by approximatively 50% of Muslims:
20% Shia and 25% of Sunnites. This country s current tensions are not opposing
Christians to Muslims, as Huntington would have predicted, but rather inside of the
Muslim civilization opposing Sunni Muslims to Shia

news report was left in disbelief and confusion on what had happened. Such reports
that displayed news of North Vietnamese forces breaking into the embassy in Saigon
and televised broadcasts of the heavy fighting taking placed left the public with a
question of whether the United States was winning the war in Vietnam(Herring, 240

question Johnson and Westmorland s tactics in Vietnam. Photos like the South
Vietnamese police officer s execution of the North Vietnamese stirred these opinions
and questions leading the public to ask if the war in Vietnam was worth fighting and
conclude that violence now held its place over the law (Herring, 241). After Tet, the
American public began to question the progress of the war in Vietnam and an end
was in sight. These questions were first roused and brought to the public s attention
by Walter Cronkite, who identified the war as a stalemate (Appy, 176). Such opinions

22. Ancient Egypt And Ancient Egyptian Civilization
known for its great pieces of art and architecture, advanced engineering skills, and
even its use of medicine. One of the most interesting parts of this culture was its
belief in the afterlife. This belief was so widely accepted and important to the people
of Egypt that it influenced many aspects of their everyday lives. The version of the
afterlife that the Egyptiansbelieved in was very different from other religions and
cultures. The immortality ideology is something that many cultures grappled with.
The ancient Egyptian belief was the epitome of immortality ideology. Everything that
the Egyptians did was influenced by the idea of an afterlife. This unique belief in the
afterlife can be seen in Egypts many pieces of art and architecture including the Great
Pyramids at Giza, the temple of Karnak, and the Book of the Dead. These examples
give a glimpse into the culture and religion of Egypt.
The timeline of ancient Egyptian civilization spanned from about 3000 BCE, when
Egypt was united under a single ruler, until about 30 BCE, when Queen Cleopatra
died and Egypt was annexed by Rome. This is the longest lasting civilization in
history. Their way of life, advanced architecture, and astute use of natural resources
gave them the ability to last as long as they did. The Egyptians believed that
everything they did and produced was influenced by the Gods and thus affected their
afterlife. They believed that when a human died, they would continue to live on in the
afterlife. This
23. Analysis Of The Book Disgrace Byj.m Coetzee
When one tries to relate the protagonists David Lurie from Disgrace, Changez from
The Reluctant Fundamentalist and Offred from The Handmaiden s Tale, they
appear to be polar opposites from each other with no similar characteristics, motives
or personality types. However, there are similarities on how the authors developed
their principal characters of the books through the relationships that the protagonist
have with other characters, primarily their love interests. Offred, David Lurie and
Changez relationships with their love interests have key similarities that provide
the framework for the characters development through this interaction. The book
Disgrace by J.M Coetzee is about a white Romantic literature professor named
David Lurie, living in post apartheid South Africa. When David Lurie is
introduced, he is a self centered and egotistical man who follows his own rules and
strives to satisfy his obsessive lust for females as sexual objects. David tries to
initiate a sexual relationship with a prostitutes and then one of his college students,
Melanie Isaacs which results in his resignation from the college and living with his
daughter on a farm. Throughout the novel, he encounters characters like Bev Shaw
(a woman runs an animal shelter), Petrus (an African who works for Lucy) and even
the father of Melanie Isaacs that creates a turning point for David, making him realize
his transformation as a hollow shell of the man he once was. It is through these
interactions
24. Examples Of Bias In To Kill A Mockingbird
Bias is defined as prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group
compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair . Each and
everyone of us have a bias perspective towards one thing or another whether we are
brave enough to admit or not. A person becomes bias through personal experiences
or things they have read or heard. My brother and I used to play mario kart together
and he would refuse to play unless he had the character Wario because he thought
Wario was the only good character. This was an example of him being biased against
the other characters in the game. I find myself being extremely biastowards movies I
watch. I love Nicholas Sparks movies and I often find myself refusing to open my
mind to other romance movies not written by him. These examples of bias are
harmless but when there is bias in a court of law, the world of science or in any way
hurtful to others, is when bias becomes a real problem and damages people.... Show

25. Rylands V Fletcher
Question 6, April 2006: Solution to fe1 question
Bell Computers could attach liability to either Chemical Supply or Industrial Estates
under the tort of Rylands v Fletcher.
Chemical Supply s Liability
Rylands v Fletcher established that a person who for his own purposes brings on his
lands and collects and keeps there anything likely to do mischief if it escapes, must
keep it in at his peril, and if he does not do so , is prima facie answerable for all the
damage which is the natural consequence of its escape. The rule therefore imposes
strict liability on the defendant for all damage which occurs as a natural consequence
of the escape, and there is no requirement for intent or neglect. The rule only applies
to defendants who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Industrial Estate s Liability
The rule in Rylands applies to owners of premises as well as occupiers, but Bell
would have difficulty overcoming the proofs outlined in respect of Industrial, namely
accumulation for Industrial s benefit etc. and the absence of any control by Industrial
over the harmful substances.
Liability would be more successfully attached to Industrial in negligence for its
failure to keep the road in a good state of repair. Firstly, Bell will need to establish
that it owed a duty of care to it. As Lord Atkin stated in O Donoghue v Stevenson
you must take reasonable care to avoid acts or omission which you can reasonably
foresee would be liable to injure your neighbour. While neighbour in this sense
does not strictly mean persons who occupy the property beside you, it was
established in Glencar Explorations v Mayo Co.Co. that if a plaintiff and defendant
s relationship is sufficiently proximate, and the harm caused was foreseeable, then
in the absence of policy limitations, a duty of care would arise. Bell should be able
to establish a duty of care in that by failing to maintain the road in a good condition,
it was reasonably foreseeable that such failure could cause injury to Bell s property,
as Industrial knew that tanks full of harmful substances travelled on the road on a
daily basis, and that if such chemicals were to escape due to an accident caused by
the defective road, they would

Enlightenment from The Tao Te Ching
The Tao Te Ching can be helpful to all, and the reading of it may be enlightening.
Reading the Tao can give much insight on the challenges and dangers that humans
must face in this world, how a person should live his life, the dangers of a powerful
ruler, how the state should rule, how citizens should serve the state, and the messages
or forewarnings for us today.
Mankind has the tendency to be self conscious, greedy, and materialistic, and human
history shows this to be the case in all societies. Even in China they suffer from the
selfish aspects of humans. The Tao states on page 9, Chase after money and security

On the other hand the Tao explains that one should lead a simple lifestyle. A simple
life, is just that, simple. A person can lead a very enjoyable life if one does not have
worries about money. The Tao states on page 8, In dwelling, live close to the ground.
/In thinking, keep to the simple./In conflict, be fair and generous./In governing, don t
try to control./In work, do what you enjoy./In family life, be completely present.
When one keeps their living conditions simple, are fair to others, and enjoys their
work, life can be very fulfilling. The Tao states that the family arrangement is the
most honorable virtue, and each family member must contribute to family unity
according to page 54, Let the Tao be present in your life/and you will become
genuine./Let it be present in your family/and your family will flourish. Having a
successful family life should be everyone s goal, but this simple statement is rarely
what we see in the western world today. Instead of unity we either see one out of
every two marriages ending in divorce, or we see disunited families. Rarely do we
see united families, and when we do it is very refreshing.
A ruler, in China, is the most honored person in the Chinese society, but the ruler has
an obligation to be a moral and upright individual. The Tao addresses these

27. Controversy Regarding Cannabis-Related Legislations in
Canada
There is presently much controversy regarding Cannabis related legislations in
Canada, as while there is a great deal of individuals supporting conditions in the
present, there are also numerous people who are against contemporary laws. It is
presently illegal to grow cannabis plants in Canada, but the authorities allow cannabis
to be consumed for medical purposes. Many people in Canada believe that cannabis
should be legalized in the country, with some of the most recent polls pointing toward
the belief that the majority of individuals in the country consider that the substance
should not be illegal. Although it would be difficult to assess the effects that
legalizing cannabis would have, it is only safe to assume that the government should
express more tolerance concerning the substance, considering that more than half of
Canada s population has expressed its support in regard to the drug.
Individuals who consume cannabis for recreational purposes are certain that the fact
that this substance is included in the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act as illegal
is proof that the authorities directly discriminate them on account of their substance
orientation.
Canada has a history in debating the use of cannabis and the circumstances when it
can be beneficial for the consumer and for society as a whole. The Canadian federal
government encourages protection for ill Canadians with degenerative health
diseases (Jacob 2009, 210). The federal government considers that the

Coles Myer Ltd Background and Issues In 1985 G.J Coles, primarily a Melbourne

store, becoming Coles Myer Ltd. The merger was brought on by an expectation of
significant cost savings from sharing services and overheads such as purchasing,
warehousing, information technology and property. However these benefits never
occurred. Coles Myer was burdened with poor management, bad strategic decisions,
and internal conflict. Their share price was faltering, and lagging behind their biggest
competitor Woolworths, and profit had been stagnant for three years. In September

Another problem for machine bureaucracies is trying to do too much. The
resulting complexities arising from an organisation attempting to control a very
broad range of businesses can often be too great for the machine bureaucracy
structure to handle (Robbins Barnwell, 2006, pp. 125). This problem was
recognised by Fletcher, with one of his first moves to sell off the non core
businesses Red Rooster and World 4 Kids. Increased organisational complexity
also played a part in failure to achieve the expected economies of scale after the
merger. Organisational Change Change in an organisation can either be planned
or unplanned. Planned change is change that comes about as a result of a specific
effort on the part of a change agent (Wood et al. 2001, pp 635), with unplanned
being the opposite. Wood (et al. 2001, pp 635) also states that planned change
comes about as a result of someone s perception of a performance gap. The board s
recognition of such a performance gap led to Fletchers appointment as chief
executive, and change agent. The problems facing Coles Myer were difficult and
widespread. Most of the individual businesses struggled with business strategy, and
across the whole organisation there was issues with

How The Efforts of Global Accounting Needs Global Standard Ethics?
If you were traveling on matter to Mexico City for the first tense, you d be wise to

notice of international professional standards. You should know approximately the
accounting, auditing, ethics and temper control standards that affect the engagement

31. Drinking Age Essay
Drinking Age When teen agers turn 18, they are told that they are adults and are
sent into the world. They go to college, get a job, marry or join the military. They
do grown up things like vote, pay taxes and become parents. But they can t go to
the pub for a beer because when it comes to liquor, they are still just kids. Where s
the fairness in the 21 and older drinking law? First, it is necessary to question this
law. Why is 21 the magical age that makes one intelligent and mature enough to
consume alcohol? Surely, some adults abuse alcohol and some teenagers would be
perfectly able to drink responsibly. This seemingly arbitrary number is associated
with adulthood, as if the day a person turns 21 they know everything and... Show

When they have the opportunity to drink, they do so in an irresponsible manner
because drinking by these youth is seen as a badge of rebellion against authority
and a symbol of adulthood. Clearly, this kind of devious attitude does not
encourage responsible drinking. While young people in foreign countries learn to
regard moderate drinking as an enjoyable social activity, young Americans view it
as something they have to sneak around to do. If 18 year olds do not have legal
access to even a beer in a public place, they are ill equipped to deal with the
responsibilities that come with drinking when they do have the right. The drinking
age should be lowered because the current age has no real basis. With a lowered
drinking age, fewer problems will be present. Safe drinking needs to be taught,
along with drinking in moderation. All of the arguments for having a raised
drinking level or retaining the current one are weak. The problems that make a
drinking age limit necessary are better solved through a lowered drinking level.
Tightening the laws on underage drinking is wrong, as laws will still be broken
and people 20 years, 364 days and younger will continue to consume alcohol. The
answer to the problem of underage drinking is not to add more restrictions, rather, it
is simple: get rid of the underage part. With the thrill of breaking the law gone and
the access to the bar granted, people, especially college

What s left right in the media?
Bias from major news corporations skews representations of highly contentious issues
to make salient political statements.
Sophie Wickes discusses the media s often erroneous rendition of the effects of
Islamic terrorism, specifically after attacks on the French capital.
A mere week after the Paris bombings, the Daily Telegraph published a tactlessly
named article, Stop being nice and bomb the terrorists.
The author of this article, Piers Akerman, has political views analogous to his
employer media proprietor, Rupert Murdoch.

assault and defamation charges and is infamous for being an unbalanced reporter.

This positions the audience to agree unanimously with her humanitarian approach to
the issue, as only one side of the asylum seeker debate is being included.
Curiously, both authors mention the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States
.
In his article, Akerman privileges these attacks. However, his inclusion of this
tragedy to compare to the Paris bombings also comes with a careful omission of the
aftermath of the United States ensuing war on terror.
A report conducted by industry professionals states that at least 1.3 million lives
were lost in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan alone since the onset of the war
following 9/11. Most of these were innocent civilians (Lazare, 2015).
As the title of his article suggests, Akerman does not care about Islamic civilian
casualties only the eradication of terrorism.
His belief positions the audience to churlishly demonize the entire Islamic
community. This makes a powerful political statement and implies the formidable
importance of western civilization.
Feller s comparison of the Paris bombings to the September 11 attacks is included to
caution the audience about possible repercussions following the French

September 11, 2001. This is a day that will forever be ingrained on the hearts of the
American people. The Twin Towers, icons of New York City, were struck by two
recreational airplanes that morning as a terrorist attack on America. Later, the
Pentagon was also attacked by a plane and another plane crashed in a field in
Pennsylvania. Three thousand people perished in all of the attacks combined and
many had not been found (History). The first plane had struck the eightieth floor of

The rest of the country was watching everything religiously, looking for any news

could see was smoke rolling up , Pat said as he remembered the sight of the crash.
It looked like a scene from a nightmare. Flames shot out of the demolished building,
screams of people that was echoed across the city, and smoke rolled across the sky

No one had seen the attacks coming, nor expected anything like this could happen.
It was unprecedented in America. America was too strong and too secure for

34. Major Advantages Of Functional Behavioral Assessment
According to Raymond (2012), FBA is the process of gathering information about a
learner s behaviors in order to determine the purpose of a problem behavior in
addition to its antecedents and consequences . This process is for all students
regardless if they have a disability or not. Once the target behaviorhas been
implemented, a hypothesis can be developed and more effective behavioral
interventions can be designed and implemented, including PBIS. All data used to
create these implementations need to be recent...properly collected and interpreted .
In addition to our textbook s information, I also found this: Functional behavioral
assessment is a test that is meant for identifying the reason for behaviors displayed by
individuals with severe cognitive and communication problems. (...) The following
are key benefits gained from a functional behavioral assessment.
1.Offers a deeper insight
The major advantage of functional behavioral assessment is that it looks beyond all
the unsuitable behaviors themselves. In fact, the focus of this test is to classify the
social and environmental factors that are responsible for causing certain behaviors.
This wide perspective offers a deeper insight of the reason behind a person s
behavior. Hence, a functional behavioral assessment helps in explain the reasons why
someone behaves badly, which is very helpful when dealing with various problematic
behaviors.
2.Enhances child development

the command of Colonel Magnus. The team had spied what looked like a squad of
soldiers earlier in the day heading their way and there was no doubt they would find
the hide. In the hurry to evacuate the hide and move further into the forest to hide

A Review of Peter Brown s Augustine of Hippo
Peter Brown s Augustine of Hippo is a dense, scholarly work outlining the entire

California published the work in 1967. My version was the 1973 second paperback

This want of something more concrete but metaphysical leads straight into the fifth
chapter, Manichaeism. This details the future bishop s obsession with the mysteries
and dualism of the Manichean teaching, as well as Augustine s work at spreading the
Manichee philosophy, as well as his love for what it made him, rather that what it
actually taught. Friends, the sixth chapter, details his life with his unnamed
concubine among his celibate Manichee comrades. Next, the seventh chapter, titled
Success, outlines Augustine s first taste of fame as a writer and as a public speaker.
Thus, Brown ends part I.
Brown begins part II, after the chronology, with a chapter on Ambrose, the bishop of
Milan that helped Augustine to convert with his interpretation of the pagan
philosophers and the similarities in the Hebrew prophets that the future bishop had
misread, and their influence on the great Greek minds. Chapter nine, titled The
Platonists, describes Augustine s influence by the Plato revivalists Plotinus and
Porphyry, who brought back the old master s works into the mainstream mindset, and
how Augustine reconciled Christianity with this existential thought, leading directly
to the next chapter, Philosophy. It describes the problems that arose in and around

Isaac Smith Sinha: FIN 494 4/23/15 Initial Public Offerings Introduction: Initial
Public Offerings are when any type of security is sold to the public for the first
time within a company s history. The main reason for this is to hope that a liquid
market will grow within this security, where people are trading shares on a daily
basis. The reason that I have decided to do research on IPO s is because it sounds
very simple, yet there are many things that must be done in order to reach a point
to offer an IPO and there are also many ups and downs for companies to weigh to
see if it is worth taking their security to the general public. Throughout this paper I
will introduce to you why company s want to issue IPO s, how they do it, and how
they try to create the initial price per share. Along with those key ideas, I will talk
about why most IPO s are underpriced when they go to market, price changes once
on the market, and lockup agreements. Finally, I am going to give a few examples
of recent IPO s such as Facebook and Sportsman s Warehouse, and other IPO
fallouts. Why do firms want to go public? As noted above an IPO occurs when a
security is sold to the public for the first time. Most firms start out generating equity
privately from a relatively low amount of investors. With this type of funding there is
no liquid market for any of the shareholders to sell their stock within a privately
funded company. When companies decide that they need to raise more capital than

The California Drought and the Proper Allocation of Water Resources
Intro:
The state of California is in the midst of a five year drought. The results of which are
beginning to reek havoc on the state s municipalities, farms and wetland habitats. If
the state continues as is supporting in thirsty agricultural industries, towns and cities
at current levels, not only will this exacerbate already tenuous water supply problem
within the state it will have ripple affects throughout the South West. Surrounding
states will have to adopt even more stringent restriction for farms, cities and
industries which may have further calamitous economic results. However, the most
difficult questions like proper allocation or modifying water rights have yet to be
answered and likely will not be resolved before California s water situation worsens.
Last April standing in front of a snowpack at just 5% of normal levels, Governor
Jerry Brown declared the drought in California has reached a crisis level and
instituted state wide water restriction for towns, cities and municipalities. He called
for a 25% reduction of water usage by urging Californians flush less, take shorter
showers, and let lawns turn brown. Although agriculture accounts for roughly 80%
(Northern California Water Association) of all human consumption of water this
industry was exempted any restriction by the governor. With a drought which shows
no sign of letting up, powerful farm and environmental lobbies, difficult to
44. Space Shuttle Columbia Disaster
The Space Shuttle Columbia disaster happened on February 1st, 2003, and was the
second and final lost Space Shuttle for NASA. Unlike the other case studies, I do not
think that there was as much external disaster planning with the Columbia. In my
research it seems that NASA as long been an advocate for the traditional approach to
disaster management. Taking in to account the secret classification that surrounds
much of what happens, and the inner workings of a government organization such as
NASA, we should not be surprised of their approach to disasters. According to our
learning units (Session 6), the traditional model has been historically referred to as
civil defense, and command and control . This quote is a perfect example of what...

Two specific ones standout concerning the Space Shuttle Columbia: strict adherence
to standard operating procedures , and a failure to adapt when performing tasks or
functions (Learning Unit 6). Another research group identifies these failures in its
findings Behind the direct cause of the foam strike, the report leveled damning
critiques at NASA s pre and post launch decision making, painting a picture of an
agency dominated by milestone obsessed middle management. That focus on narrow,
group specific work and reporting, without a complementary focus on cross
department integration and communication, contributed at least as much to the loss
of the shuttle as did the foam impact (The Audacious Rescue Plan that Might have
Saved Space Shuttle Columbia, 2014). I m of the mindset that, had these shortfalls
not been exposed and attributed to the loss of the shuttle, there was little that could
have been done to save the shuttle once the foam strike took place. The time to
correct that discrepancy should have been prior to flight, and according to many
articles I read, the detaching foam was a known issue; which places the blame back
to an organization that had problems adapting to any changes regarding safety. As
with any emergency disaster, not all aspects were failures. Once such noted example
from our handouts (Learning Lesson 7), was emergence. Due to the high altitude and
extreme speed of the shuttle upon break up, the debris field was quite large. These
created a nightmare scenario for search teams,

English september 8, 2009 Literary Perspectives The following information was
excerpted from The Bedford Introduction to Literature, 8th edition, 2079 2098
Formalist critics are primarily concerned with the language, structure, and tone of a
work, otherwise known, as it s formal elements . Formalists gravitate towards intrinsic
matters in a piece of literature, in simpler terms, diction, irony, paradox, metaphor,
and symbol. In a similar fashion, they emphasize larger elements, for instance, plot,
characterization, and narrative technique, in order to derive meaning from a literary
work. The work must stand by itself, and any information that goes beyond the text,
for example, biography, history, politics, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A historical approach to literature emphasizes the link between the historic context
of a work and a modern reader s understanding and interpretation of the work. The
1960 s saw the development of New Historicism which places the text firmly in the
period in which it was written, and examines that period from a political, economic,
social, and aesthetic standpoint. For example, a new historicist might examine
Chopin s The Story of an Hour within the context of prevailing attitudes toward
women at the time, as well as medical diagnoses of nervousness and hysteria as
common, for women of that era, who led lives considered overly independent by
their contemporaries. The doctors who diagnose Mrs. Mallard s death as having been
caused by the joy that kills are not delusional or ignorant; they represent a contrasting
set of values that are historic and very much steeped in reality. New historicists
therefore sensitize us to the fact that the history on which we choose to concentrate is
tainted by our examination of it from our own present truth ; This reconstruction of
the past undeniably affects the meaning we derive from a literary work. Mythological
critics may specialize in history, classical literature, psychology, cultural history, and
classical literature, but the chief emphasis is on the assumptions and values of
various cultures. Mythological readings represent the broadest approach
46. Analysis Of Jeanne D Arc
A teen peasant guided by God, France under attack, and only a silver ring to track
back into history. In Medieval times, there were many aspiring stories of defying the
meaning of a damsel. The defined term of a damsel was a young, unmarried woman,
although, embedded in our minds are women who needs help. Joan of Arcdidn t
expect to be a helpless womantrapped in a tower, doomed until her knight in shining
armor saved her. She saved the French army from losing to Britain in the Hundred
Years War.
In 1412, Jeanne d Arc was born on a small farm in France. During this time period,
there was a bloody war going on, which is also known as the Hundred Years War. A
conflict between England and France over the right to own land, disputes of the
next French throne, and economic conflicts. Less than fifty years before was the
Black plague which killed more than half of the country s population. Joan s father
was a farmer who practiced disciplinary while her mother was a home worker and
emphasized church ethics. Growing up, she was trained to tend animals and spin
wool. Joan wasn t taught to read or write, but she attended many village festivals
and was obedient to her parents. Women during this times was considered the
original sin since Eve was considered responsible for tempting Adam to eating the
apple. Therefore, women were supposed to remain silent and be under the control of
men. In her years of adolescence, the English was gaining the upper hand and
captured Paris, while
