Throughout the years, my reading and writing skills were never my best aspect growing up as a
kid. I always felt that I would never need to learn how to write and read because I wanted to
become a superhero when I grew up, and I thought superheroes don t need to learn that type of
stuff because they just save people from the bad guys. As I grew older I knew my dream of
flying around and fighting crime wasn t an option, so I started read and write, which mostly started

In an attempt to better understand the barriers in getting perpetrators to surrender their guns, and
the possible solution in remedying them, I conducted interviews with different members of the
King County community. The goal of these interviews was to generate information regarding the
experiences of DV victims, and their advocates as well as law enforcement agencies on the issue of
gun surrendering. Interviews were done primarily in person with the attorneys, and primarily over
the phone with the DV advocates. Due to the political sensitivity of this issue, the majority of the

information I came to respect this religion more than any other we studied this semester because of

Muhammad and the direct voice of God in the Quran that is sets Islam apart from Judaism and
Christianity. His influence and words continue to deeply inspire muslims even though he has
been dead for centuries. Muhammad is one of the most interesting religious figures of any
religion. He is a mix of all the other important figures from other religions. Like the Bhudda, he
began his life as a normal citizen and then became a spiritual figure. At least for me, this allows
me to find his words and teachings more believable because he is completely human. He is like
Jesus because he is a prophet of God, but he isn t described as half human, half God. This gives

is completely human his interpretations can be more believable because there isn t room for

There are three major interaction of gods and humans in The Epic of Gilgamesh. The fight between
Humbaba and Gilgamesh and Enkidu, Gilgamesh s rejection of Ishtar s desire, and the
interaction of several gods with Utanapishti during the Deluge. The first interaction we see is the
one with Humbaba in Tablet V. Throughout the interaction, we see that Humbaba tries to get
Enkidu and Gilgamesh to go against each other and tries to manipulate their thoughts. This
shows that Humbaba knew that he couldn t defeat them when both of them were together. This
demonstrates that although gods are supernatural and more than human, they are not perfect in
strength and power. They can be defeated by humans. However, Humbaba still conveys fear, as
Gilgamesh, who was willing to kill him in the beginning, was about to change his mind after
seeing Humbaba. The interaction between Humbaba and Gilgamesh and Enkidu shows us that
gods can be physically approached by humans, and that there is not necessarily a physical barrier

J.D. Salinger (Jerome Davis Salinger) was said by some people to be one of the best American
Authors of past century. Salinger s works reflects the many experiences he had as a child. One of
the more common focuses tends to be his fascination with protecting the innocence in children.
Salinger was born in New York City an attended public school until he switched to the exclusive
McBurney School. In attending this school, Salinger was called an academically unexceptional
student . After this he was sent to the Valley Forge Military Academy. During his time there he
added to the literary magazine and yearbook. After this he went on to NYU for a short amount of
time.
Teddy, a short story that details a young boys life, is an example of Salinger s struggle with the
corruption of a child s mind by the pursuit of knowledge. In this story Teddy McArdle is an
extremely smart boy. Similarly to the other stories in Nine Stories, this one also is about the loss of
childhood innocence and trying to get it back, even though it may be too late. Just like the others,

The history of social work demonstrates how statutory and voluntary agencies adapted to the
changing social conditions and increasing societal problems as a result of influence of
industrialization and urbanization (Red). Social and economic changes such as the Black Death
that severed the British populations, the closure of common land for self profit in the 1530s, and
unrest and riots during the 1700s left many people in need alone and without care from their
families (lecture). Industrialization and urbanization created a widespread movement toward cities,
separation over wealth and classes, and caused challenges which established systems of care could
not longer cope with (lecture). During the late 16th century, the population in the United Kingdom
increased by 25% and widespread famine contributed to the increasing povertyrate, which called for
a new system of help for the poor (black). Over almost a 400 year period, poor laws were
established in the United Kingdom to provide systematic help for those facing poverty.
Within the United Kingdom, there was a division of approaches to address rising social problems
(lecture). England and Whales created the Elizabethan Poor Law Act of 1601 to classify the poor
into categories and allocate responsibility of care and control for these classifications. The poor
law separated those who could not work versus those who would not work in three ways: the
impotent poor , the aged, chronically sick, or mentally ill; the able bodied poor , those who
could work but didn t; and the able bodied poor who absconded or refused work (red). The
impotent poor were housed in voluntary institutions under the care of parishes and churches
whereas the able bodied poor were sent to statutory workhouses or house of correction punishment
facilities (red). The Poor Law Act of 1601 sought to make a distinction between individuals who
were poor by no fault of their own and individuals who were to blame for there poverty, and thus
putting them in the care of either the state or private sectors (red).
Workhouses were some of the most inhumane aspects of history and a dark space in the public
