Cognitive Therapy And Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Essay
Since the beginning of psychotherapy as a discipline and theoretical body of knowledge, there has
been many different psychotherapies developed and practiced. Some psychotherapies share
similarities and, at times, use the same mechanisms of change (e.g., cognitive therapy and cognitive
behavioral therapy) while other psychotherapies are fundamentally distinct from each other (e.g.,
psychoanalysis and acceptance and commitment therapy). The integration of the mechanisms and
theoretical basses of two or more psychotherapies has been sought out as a means to create methods
of psychotherapythat are increasingly effective and useful for practitioners. Integrating aspects of
different psychotherapies has been attempted in four ways; by using assimilative integration,
technical eclecticism, theoretical integration, and common factors (CF).
Assimilative integration is a popular method of practice that relies on the practitioner having one
dominant theoretical grounding and using methods from other psychotherapies when they are seen
to be useful in therapy. In other words, the therapist dominantly practices one theoretical orientation,
which he or she uses for the fundamental cause of pathology and most therapeutic techniques, while
using techniques from other theoretical orientations when they would benefit particular patients or
be suitable in certain situations. An example of the assimilative integration approach is when a
cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) practitioner decides

Cecil The Lion Peter Singer Analysis
Remember Cecil the Lion? A lot of people were shocked, even outraged, when they heard about
his death at the hands of an American hunter in 2015. The response to the lion s death was so
strong that the guy who shot Cecil basically went into hiding until he issued an apology. Our
society reacts with horror when we hear about a majestic lion being shot or sacks of kittens
being tossed into rivers, or owners training their dogs to fight each other for sport. However,
what is the difference between killings Cecil and killing a duck, deer, cow, pig, or a chicken?
How do we reconcile the strong feelings many of us have about certain animals, mainly the cute
ones like kittens and puppies, with the way we actual use animals in our own lives?
Most of us think nothing about using non human animals for their meat, milk, or skins and not only
do we use animals in these ways, but using them as we do almost always harms them. A common
method for testing cosmetics, for example, involves restraining rabbits and putting the product into
their eyes, leaving it for a set amount of time and then washing it out and checking for adverse
reactions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Singer reminds us that there was a time when most Americans thought it was totally normal and
right for members of one group to literally own members of another group based on a morally
irrelevant difference, skin color. Today, the members of the oppressing group look back on the
reasoning of their ancestors with horror and shame. Singer predicts that there will be a time when
our descendants look back on us and our treatment of non human animals with the same reaction.
In a nutshell, Singer says, If it s not okay to do it to a human, then it s not okay to do it to an
animal either. You might think that you agree with Singer, but do you really agree with

Anti-Aging Benefits Of The Mediterranean Diet
Anti Aging Benefits of Mediterranean Diet
September 15, 2016
Jonathan Swift said, Everybody wants to live forever, but nobody wants to grow old.
Wouldn t it be nice? If we could stay healthy and young, living as long as possible would be great.
Because that is a deep down desire of the majority, many people are always on a quest to slow
down the aging process.
So, our question for today is: What are the Anti Aging Benefits of the Mediterranean Diet?
First, we must acknowledge that no diet in the world can halt or slow the aging process. Aging is
inevitable and food is not the elixir of life although the type of food you choose can lengthen or
shorten your life.
What has been proven by numerous studies is that the Mediterranean diet ... Show more content on

People eat whatever is the most convenient with little regard for their health. This is very upsetting
and dangerous for the population as a whole.
There is a wide assumption that healthy food is not delicious. They believe that they must live on
a steady diet of raw carrots and steamed chicken breasts and decide that is not for them. They
would much rather have a fast food burger and cheese fries instead it s easier and tastier.
What they don t know is that the Mediterranean Diet is filled with DELICIOUS AND HEALTHY
food, which is why people in the Mediterranean Region are often healthier and live longer lives than
Americans.
The foundation of the Med Diet is fresh vegetables. In the US, vegetables are typically an
afterthought, with unhealthy choices like fried potatoes being classified as vegetables.
When you make vegetables the center of your meals, you will get your daily dose of antioxidants
to fight the free radicals in your body; plus give your body necessary nutrients and keep your skin
healthy and supple.
Fruit is another important part of the Med diet. They are filled with nutrients and rich in fiber,
which slows down digestion so you do not get hungry as quickly. The fruit also prevents sugar

Analyzing A Wide Range Of Environmental Data
PMF is a mathematical receptor model that is used to analyze a wide range of environmental data.
The model has been widely used in air, water, and lake and ocean sediments research to determine
the sources of pollutants. This model reduces the large number of variables in intricate analytical
data sets to just a few combinations known as source types and contributions while providing very
robust uncertainty estimates and data diagnostics.
The identification of the source types is achieved by matching the different sources with the
measured profiles of individual sample chemical constituents. The source contributions are basically
used to determine how much each source/factor contributed to the pollutants in the analyzed
sample(s). The PMF ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The model limits the factor loadings and scores to only the non negative values, which significantly
minimizes the uncertainty that may be caused by any rotating factors. The mass balance equation
for the PMF model accounting for all the m chemical species in n samples as contributions from p
independent sources can be written as shown in Eq. (3.8);
X_ij= ∑_(k=1)^pв
–’g_ik f_kj+ e_ij Eq.(3.8) where, Xij = the elemental concentration for the jth
species on the ith day, gik = the contribution of kth factor to the receptor model on the ith day, fkj
= the proportion of the kth factor that is species j, and eij = the residual for the jth species on the
ith day.
While using the PMF model, there exists a set of fundamental, natural physical constraints or
checks that have to be obeyed. These include: The model must reproduce the original data. i.e., the
model must explain all the observations in the input data set. The expected/ predicted source
compositions must all have non negative values. Any given source cannot have a negative
proportion of an element or any other given pollutant species. The predicted source contributions to
the particulate aerosols or any other environmental pollutants of interest must all be non negative.
Any given source cannot emit negative mass. The sum of the

Segmentation And Target Market Analysis
Segmentation and Target Market Paper The fundamental component of Market segmentation is a
market based strategy. Market segmentation strategies are generally used to identify and further
define the target customers, and provide supporting data for marketing plan elements such as
positioning to achieve certain marketingplan objectives. Businesses may grow product
differentiationstrategies, or an indistinguishable approach, concerning specific products or product
lines subjectable to the specific requests and qualities of the target segment. A market segment deals
with descriptive characteristics and specific group of customers with distinctive customer needs. It
also involves dividing a broad target market into subsets of consumers,... Show more content on

In October 2013, the company launched a music download service provided by 7digital. When
advertising a product for this company, the price of products in the market should always be set
under fair price. When a company evaluating different market segments, they must consider of
three factors, that is, growth and segment size, segment structural attractiveness and also company
s resources and objectives. (Armstrong G. Kotler P, 2005) The company s market segment
opportunities are certainly revealed by market segmentation. For all effective market
segmentation, these distinctive categories have met the criteria as they are easily identified. All
of the needs that can/will be demanded by customers will be comprised. A variety of video and
music in each store is available for purchase so that customers can have tangible access through

generally offers a wide assortment of advantages for both, customers and the business. Hence,
HMV is using the geographic, demographic, behavioral and psychographic approaches in their
market segmentation. The market identification as well as segmentation of targeted markets is the
most important element of each strategy. This particular company has to evaluate the various

Bhagavad Gita Reincarnation Essay
The duration of life in a material reality may be very long, but all living bodies in the material
world are eventually subject to a thing of the past and have to again develop other bodies. This
idea of one life coming after another, continuing an endless cycle of life; allows death to never
exist. In the epic Bhagavad Gitaby the scribe Veda Vyasa, the theme of reincarnation is portrayed by
Lord Krishna, telling a young warrior named Arjuna, to not dwell on the physical nature of this
world because it can all be born again.
In the Hindu religion, karma exists, which means whatever acts have been acted upon and
whatever thoughts have been though having created an impression on the physical nature of the
world and in the infinite universe. Arjuna is in the midst of charging to battle towards his cousins
over the inheritance of the kingdom. The cousins exiled them, but with a vow that Arjuna and his
brothers could reclaim the throne under certain conditions. Arjuna complied with the
circumstances and completed them. In court, the cousin King violates his vow and brings about
an unforgivable deed, ending in war. Now on the battlefield, Arjuna sees all of his loved ones on
the opposite side of the void between two warring parties. At the sight of those who raised Arjuna
to be a man stand to oppose him, I am unstrung, my limbs collapse/beneath me, and my mouth is
dry/there is a trembling in my body (The Bhagavad Gita pg. 1286). Arjuna calls out to his god

Pros And Cons Of A Car
Car is one of the basic transportations that are needed by us. It goes along with trains, buses, ships,
airplanes, and any other means of transportations, which help people travel to different places
without so much effort and time wasted.
In ancient times, people only walk if they wanted to go to a different place, while others are using
horses to make the journey faster. However, not all of them are rich enough to have a horse. As
time passes by, few people were born with gifted minds and were able to discover and invent the
train. And without people noticing, new technologies were introduced in different aspects such as
communications, machineries, transportations, etc.
Car is the result of those never ending innovations in transportation technology. Every year, new car

Because of these, many rental car companies penalize even those young drivers with good records
by restricting some type of cars that will be rented, charging high daily fees and sometimes,
banning some drivers to rent a car.
In most times, drivers at the age of 18 to 21 are impossible to rent since they are renting a car under
25 years of age. But now, if you are in the ages between 21 and 24, you can rent cars in different
places managed by Thrifty, Enterprise, Advantage, Budget, Avis, Dollar, National and Hertz.
However, they still need to pay daily fees which vary on different locations. Luxury vehicles and

these cars be rented but with higher daily fees.

power plant and Metropolitan Edison Company ran and managed the plant. TMI 1 and TMI 2

The mechanical failure got the pilot operated relief valve stuck, meanwhile the relief valve status
showed in the control room was closed. Consequently, the coolant flowed out of reactor core

Because the information provided by the system was inadequate, so that operators did not know
the water level. As a result, they assumed that the water level was high in the reactor core and did
not realize that the reactor was experiencing losing cooling water. The coolant pumps was switched
off to protect themselves from the acute vibration. Furthermore, operators cut down the supply of
emergency cooling to the reactor core. These series of action did not relieve the hazard, but made

overheating. Moreover, there was a crack on the zirconium cladding that was a cover for the

My Most Cherished Beliefs Research Paper
My Most Cherished Beliefs Beliefs are vital in Islam. Proper beliefs about God, the universe, and
humanity is the number one concern to Muslims. The Quran, the sacred text of Islam states,
Righteous is he who believes in Allah and the remaining Day and the Angels and the Scriptures and
the Prophets. Believing in these concepts, as well as many others, are essential to Muhammads
followers, each past and present. Similar to Judaism and Christianity, Islamalso teaches that there is
one god in the universe, providing Muslims with a monotheistic view. There are several beliefs in
Islam that Muslims believe in. The one most important belief in Islam, and arguably the main

That is beyond our ability to do, yet it is something that I can understand. Islam, Judaism and
Christianity share the main concept that God sent prophets to guide their fellow people.
However, Islam also differs from these two faiths on important aspects related to prophet hood.
For instance, Islam teaches that all prophets of God were of high moral character and did not
succumb to the sins their people committed. For example, Islam exonerates Aaron even though
the Old Testament depicts him as someone who worshipped the golden calf. I believe in the
prophets because we are obliged to believe in and honor all of the prophets, and to testify that
prophet hood has been completed with the coming of Prophet Muhammad. In Islam, the purpose of
life is to live in a way that is pleasing to Allah so that one may gain Paradise. When a person
reaches puberty, an account of each person s deeds is opened, and this will be used at the Day of
Judgment to determine his eternal fate. I believe in this because just as our physical actions and
habits affect the body and leave their impressions upon it, so does the good or evil of our deeds
affect the spirit and leave an impression upon it. Sometimes we can even feel something of the

Koreans Have A Rich Culture

Korean Language Honorifics
Koreans have a rich culture as well as other countries in the world from their festivals, foods,
technology and much more. Among the most prominent Korean culture is their language honorific
or polite system. You include specific elements in the language depending on who you speak to or
what setting you are in.
If you plan to learn the Korean language or are currently learning the language, you ll find that
applying honorifics is one of the more difficult things or probably a complicated aspect to learn.
However, it is imperative that you learn to implement honorifics in your speech because if not, you
will be deemed really rude by Koreans.
Let s start off with the most common instance when you should use honorific language. First,
Koreans value age. The older you are the more you are respected because of your seniority. So the
first thing you have to keep in mind is when speaking to a much older person, apply honorifics in
your speech.
Korean speech is in the Subject/Object/Verb format as opposed to Subject/Verb/Object for
English. To use honorific speech, you must add a yo or seyo at the end of your sentences. seyo
which is the combination of shi + oyo is much more respectful. You usually use these when
speaking in an informal setting such as when you meet older acquaintances that you re not too
close with or with a senior like a teacher or a mentor. The same goes when you meet a friend of a
friend.

Gender Inequality Of Equal Pay For Women
Introduction:
On January 29, 2016, The White House Press Office released a FACT SHEET on new steps to
advance equal pay for women. This FACT SHEET states that,
the median wage of a woman working full time all year in the United States is about $39,600 only
79 percent of a man s median earnings of $50,400 (The White House, 2016).
However, many scholars and economists disagree that a gender wage gap exists. In addition,
conservative political experts and bloggers promote the notion that gender based wage gap is an
idea propagated by feminists, women empowering organizations, and progressives. However,
almost all the working women in the United States, and organizations such as Institute for Women s
Policy Research (IRWP), and American Association of University Women (AAAU), strongly
believe in the existence of the gender wage gap.
This sociological issue of equal pay for women is extremely relevant in today s environment
where women perform equal work as men in many occupations. Furthermore, with almost 50% of
the work force being women, women contributing equally to the family income, and a large
number of women being the single parents supporting children, lack of equal pay over time could
increase the poverty rates for women (White House, 2016). In addition, IWPR s 2015 report on
the status of American women, states that if women receive equal pay for the same work, the
poverty rate among women will see a reduction from 8.2% to 4%, an almost 50% reduction (Hess et

Consequently, the demand for talent is outstripping the supply. The ability for a firm to create an
integrated system that yields a continual flow of talent ready to address specific strategic and
operational opportunities may be the single most enduring competitive advantage. While
organizations often find that their strategies, products, services, or markets require change, the need
to have relevant, differentiated talent to achieve these business goals remains constant (pp. 73 35).
Boudreau and Ramstad (2002) propose focusing on pivotal talent or the talent where improvements
in capabilities will make the most significant impact on competitive advantage. When talent
management is integrated into strategic business planning, there is an opportunity to discuss the
capabilities and skills needed to execute the plan. This helps leaders create proactive plans to
ensure that they have the talent they need to achieve the strategy (p. 7). According to Aguirre, D.,

Gliomedin
Within a neuron, neurofascin is bound ankyrin G, which is bound to Na+ channels. Somehow, the
binding of neurofascin (expressed by axon) to gliomedin (expressed by the Schwann cell) is
involved in the formation of nodes of Ranvier. Gliomedin is only expressed when the Schwann cell
is in physical contact with the axon. Therefore, for the formation of nodes of Ranvier, three things
must occur. First, the Schwann cellmust make physical contact with the axon. Then, it must express
gliomedin. Finally, gliomedin must form a complex with neurofascin (expressed by the axon). This
was determined through a set of experiments. To determine if sodium channel clustering depended
on glial cells, hippocampal cells were cultured in the absence of glial cells. This experiment showed
that, in the absence of glial cells, Na+ channels were found along the entire length of the axon. They
were not concentrated in clusters. Then, another experiment was conducted to determine if the
node of Ranvier formation was contact dependent. In this experiment, the dorsal root ganglia were
bathed in the extracellular fluid of Schwann cells. Again, nodes of Ranvier did not form. This
showed that the node of Ranvier formation mechanism was contact dependent. Another experiment
was done to determine if node of Ranvier formation depended on molecular signaling between the
Schwann cells and the axon. In this experiment, Schwann cells on a myelinated axon were killed.
The nodes of Ranvier disappeared. This showed that molecular signaling played a role in node of
Ranvier formation. Eventually, an experiment found that ankyrin G was concentrated at nodes of
Ranvier. To determine what proteins interacted with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Influenced by this punk subcultural capital, the punks distinguished themselves from the
mainstream code of behavior. The subcultural capital not only differentiated from the widely
accepted popular culture , but also discriminated themselves from the high culture as well. Hebdige
(1976) has argued that subcultural knowledge often include class consciousness. As a matter of
fact, the assertion of subcultural distinction partly bases on the ideal of classlessness (Thornton,
1995). Storey also points out that the class divides indeed exist between the subculture and the elite
culture (Forgan, 2002). Opposite from the high culture, which is often appeal to the taste of the
elite class, the subcultural capital is always less class bound and concerned more about the
interests of lower class. Therefore, it shapes people s dispositions against the dominate stereotypes,
such as class, gender and religion. As an illustration, the punks can come from all works of life and

Online Communities For Depression Awareness Essay
Introduction
Online communities can offer a unique experience to everyone. I cannot exactly say I have
much experience in an online community. The only interaction I have had in an online
community is an online book forum I had joined during high school where we discussed a
particular book I had really enjoyed reading. Unfortunately, I personally did not know anyone
else who had read that particular book and I had really wanted to discuss that book with someone
one, and so I decided to join the online forum. That experience was certainly enjoyable as I had
the opportunity to share my ideas and in return hear from other people s perspectives. Sharing such
diverse ideas allowed for influencing other s way of thinking and allowed me to connect with other

Families for
Depression Awareness. I chose this online community because I strongly recognize the
importance of raising awareness of depression in families so as to inform families how they can

depression when I was a teenager, and unfortunately my family did not know how to help me.

Public Domain Research Paper
The topic of public domain is becoming increasingly important in the modern day. Legislation
once enacted to protect the intellectual property of the individual seems to have been flipped on
its head to do the exact opposite. Copyright was originally created to inspire original works by
individual authors, inventors and scientists for a relatively finite amount of time. In the modern
era, we see big corporate interests pushing for the extension of these deadlines while buying and
hoarding copyrights, using lawyers as guard dogs. Doing so infringes on the consumer s right to
choose. Such actions prevents fair competition in terms of price, quality, and service for an obscene

Write An Essay On Asphalt Pavement
For many people, winter is the most delightful season of all. For your asphalt parking lot, however,
winter can be the cruelest season that it will face. It is not at all uncommon for property owners to
be shocked by the amount of damage that their parking lots incurred between autumn and spring.
Understanding how winter weather can affect your asphalt pavement can help you minimize winter
s impact.
Freezing Temperatures
One of the worst things for your asphalt pavement is the repeated cycles of freezing and thawing
that can occur during the winter. Asphalt contracts and expands as temperatures fluctuate, and as
long as no water penetration occurs, your pavement should survive the winter in good shape.
However, if there are cracks in the pavement, water ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast Jim Jones And Jesus Christ
Jim Jones and Jesus Christ, two names of two very known people, they share many similarities.
Yet only own of them is praised and the other is demonized. Even comparing the two is almost
forbidden, how could someone compare the savior of mankind and a man who is responsible for
the death of hundreds? Both managed to gain a large following, had people who feared them, and
they both made the ultimate sacrifice. While they share many similarities they both are
remembered very differently. Jesus is known as the savior of all and he is celebrated furiously,
while Jim Jonesis demonized and only remembered for his cyanide kool aid. They both went about

The Height Of Colonialism Between The 18th And 20th Century
During the height of colonialism between the 17th and 20th century, almost all of Asia was at
one point either directly taken as a colonial possession, or was strongly influenced politically and
economically by a colonial power. The exception to this was Siam (now Thailand) which has
remained largely independent despite colonial pressure on all its borders (with the exception of
the concession of what is now Laos and Burma). For the sake of brevity and consistency, this
essay will only be dealing with events from between the early 19th century to the beginning of
the 20th century. During this period, the biggest threats to Siamese independence were the
British to the west, and the French to the east. As seen by the map below, by 1901, British
influence (indicated by the red) had extended to encompass the north and west of Siam
(indicated by the bottom right green), while French influence (indicated by the blue) covered
the east of Siam. As Siam was surrounded by either French or British colonies, it meant that
other Western colonial powers would need to contest French or British territories before it
would be able to consider colonising Siam. Figure 1 part of a larger map of Asia, World East

A Raisin in the Sun Comparison to Martin Luther King Jr.
Common Dreams A dream is to envision another life or characteristic that could be better or
worse than what the person already has. In the case of most people it is a dream that is positive.
People mainly are selfish dreamers who dream only about themselves but there are some who
dream about the world or others such as friends and family. Two examples of these types of
dreamers are Mama from the play A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry and Martin Luther
King Jr. s speech I Have a Dream . In Dr. King s speech he brings up that his dream is not only for
him but for others with the same problem. He is a caring dreamer, one who believes others come

These two people can be related in a way because they both dream of others living amongst whites
and to live in a place where the living conditions are better, where a plant can survive. There are
other similarities between Mama and Martin Luther King Jr., for example another similarity would
be sacrifice. Martin Luther King Jr. technically did sacrifice his life. To talk about freedom of
blacks in a time where blacks are highly hated is something risky and may take their life. He
sacrificed his life because he has four kids that he wants to grow up in an equal society. He
stated, I have a dream that my four little children will one day live a nation where they will not
be judged . He is sacrificing for the benefit of others. In this case he is sacrificing for his family
and all blacks out there who wouldn t speak up. Martin Luther King Junior is easily related to
Mama because she also is sacrificing for the benefit of family. Mama sacrifices the money that
she received from the death of her husband for the life of her loved ones. Mama sacrifices the
money for Beneatha s college fund for her to pursue her career of being a doctor. She also
sacrifices her money for a house for everyone but mainly Travis, her grandson who sleeps on a

Origin And Themes Of Popular Soccer Chants

Popular Soccer Chants The lyrics Walk on, Walk on, With hope in your hearts are belted out by
a sea of red as a Liverpool match is about to start. Even though the intonation of the singing might
make a choral director cringe, there is no doubt that everyone wearing Liverpool s red jersey
knows every word to the song. Sung in unison, the undeniable passion of Liverpool s fans is
overwhelming, when they wear their club s crest and colors on their chest and recite their
anthem with their voice. This sort of chanting and singing is mainstay in European football,
almost as central to the sport as the ball itself. Here, I will define chanting as the reciting or
singing a tune or song, often with changed lyrics with respect to the original version of the song,
in order to evoke or convey emotions. The term chanting will encompass not only explicitly
chanting, but singing and warbling as well, specifically pertaining to European football.
Showcasing the power and unity of that club s fans, chanting can be used for a variety of
purposes, such as supporting their own club, celebrating after a goal, or even intimidating the
opposing club. Some chants, such as Liverpool FC s You ll Never Walk Alone, may be passed
down through generations of fans, engrained in that club s identity. However, there are many
others which are based off of popular music of the time, which come and go, just as popular

Consequently, the important thing to note is that if you are 6 tall, you will find that learning how to

In The Lake Of The Woods Literary Analysis
Throughout Tim O Brien s, In The Lake Of The Woods, the nature of love is mysterious. This is
demonstrated throughout the novel by presenting several characters with mysterious backgrounds,
deploying an unknown narrator, and leaving the end of the book on a cliffhanger. All of these
elements come together to show that the nature of loveis pure mystery. The main character, John
Wade, is full of mystery. As a child, he was extremely interested in magic. He even relied on it as
a coping mechanism when his father died. As an adult, his interest in magic didn t fade. When he
was in the army, his nickname was Sorceror. Once in the army, John Wade began not only to hide
the secrets of his magic, but also secrets of his personal life. Once he came back from the war, this
habit only got worse. The narrator of the novelalso exhibits mystery. Nobody knows who he is, or
why he is telling this story. His purpose could be considered just as much of a mystery as what
happened to Kathy. Lastly, the ending of the book clearly exudes mystery, since there is never an
answer confirming what happened to Kathy.
The mystery of the narrator is almost as important as what happened to Kathy. Even though the
narrator tells a large part of the story, there is no mention of who he really is. The narrator clearly
knows every intimate detail about John and Kathy s relationship, and knows tons about John and
his childhood as well. Although we know that this person knows all of this information, we have

The Primary Mechanisms for Sex Determination Across the...
Manolakou et al. suggest that there are three primary mechanisms for sex determination across the
animal kingdom. The first is environmental factors. Fish and Reptiles do not have chromosomes
that determine the sex of the offspring. The temperature is the primary determinant. Some
organisms sex will be determined by specific environmental factors like temperature during the
right developmental stages of the embryo. This is referred to as the thermosensitive period (TSP).
The second mechanism is when a specific gene is responsible for a cascade effect that will
ultimately determine the sex of the offspring. This mechanism is seen in some invertebrates like
insects, and amphibians. The single regulating gene has not yet been determined. The third
mechanism is the occurrence of individual sex chromosomes like what we see in mammals. In
mammals the males are heterozygous and the females are homozygous, but in birds the opposite is
true, but birds still have distinct sex chromosomes. Some organisms have distinct sex determining
chromosomes, but they have yet to be discovered. How or why certain organisms develop into
certain gender is not necessarily known, but the idea that there could be some sort of governing
pattern could lend itself useful to comparative biology and reproductive endocrinology.
Haplodiploid genetic system is a very curious mechanism in insects. The insects can be either
uniparental or biparental, meaning one parent or two. The females can

Types Of Big Data And Large Data
Big data is a term used to define the amount of data, structures and unstructured, so huge that
traditional data base managements techniques are rendered useless and the storage and analytics
of this data pose a problem. There are various types of big data and big data can be defined in four
Vs, which are: Volume, Velocity, Variety and Veracity. The problem is solved by Google
Distributed
File System, an application that google created for it s own use to automatically store data.
With the amount of big data multiplying every minute, technologies like cloud computing came
into picture, in many, Hadoop is one which stands out. Hadoop is an open source platform where
big data can be stored, managed and even used. Organisations like Amazon and LinkedIn use the
Hadoop framework to connect to it s customers.
Another new technology is MapReduce. MapReduce maps the input data and provides it to the
user as output in a reduced form due to the clusters of computers working in parallel to individually
process the data.
With the further growth of data more technologies will be explored and if we assume if things
proceed as they are doing, there will be time soon when we won t even have to look for jobs. The
right job for our capabilities will be offered to us by comprehending us on our IQ, our likes and
dislikes, our nature, hobbies, etc.

Features Of Athenian Democracy
Background, context and ideas of chosen philosophy
In approximately 550 B.C., democracy came to Athens in Greece. The word Democracy was first
known to be used by Herodotus in 440 B.C.
Athenian Democracy was a system of direct democracy, where participating citizens voted directly
on legislation and executive bills. Although not everyone who lived in Athens could participate in
the democracy. Only male citizens over 18 could take part, and a majority of the population at the
time weren t citizens. Participating in the democratic process came with full time responsibility.
According to Xenophon, most participants had slaves to work for them and some scholars point out
that without slaves, democracy would not have been possible.
Athenian democracy was unique among political structures of the ancient world where the
majority were monarchies where a king or another single ruler had absolute power over everybody
else or shared it with a few selected aristocrats. One of the things that made Athenian democracy
unique is that all free male citizens decided all important questions or actually ruled the country
through voting on an assembly. Military generals were also selected and such. Athenian democracy
influenced later modern democracy through ideas that were picked up by others in Europe mostly
in 1700 s such as Rousseau, Voltaire, Hobbes and others who advocated restriction of absolute
monarchy and liberalism.

Perfect Forward Essay
The perfect forward for hockey is about 6 foot 2, and is about 220 pounds of muscle. They need
a good aerobic and anaerobic system if they are to be at the peak of there performance. A normal
forward uses 80% of the ATP PC system and about 20% of their Lactic Acid system. For them to
be at there best they need to train in three different programs: 1. They need an off season program,
which will get them into condition to be conditioned and also improve their strength. 2. They need
preseason training with will mainly help them improve their ATP PC system, and that s where they
re going to get their explosiveness. 3. This is the in season training, which is simply used to

A perfect example is John LeClair he he s almost impossible for a defensemen to move from in
front of the net and he will do it to you all game long. Thereby the Muscle Strength and Endurance
program is based on a core list of exercise that will help you establish good bases for your upper
body for shooting and lower body skills used for skating power and agility. Yet the most important
part of a forward is their torso that will provide a stability required for most hockey skills.
Flexibility is what provides fluid motion and minimal risk of injury. Flexibility also provides
range of motion and elasticity, which are crucial for the player to generate the power at high
levels. The power of Brett Hull s slap shot does not come from brut strength but from range of
motion as well. A forward cannot only have flexibility in certain spots, but they need it throughout
the body because hockey uses practically every muscle in the body. For example, when you get hit
and land in an unusual position you want your muscles to extend smoothly and then recoil back
into there normal position without any tearing, also you want fluid motion in your forearm to snap
that puck into the back of the net.
Therefore an off season work out for a forward would look similar to this.

Ruby Bridge Through My Eyes Essay Thesis
Imagine you love to go to this deli and you have been going to that deli your whole life. One day
you walk in and you see everyone staring at you. They say because of your skin color that you re
not able to come back. This actually happened in the 1960 s because Whites thought anyone who
was African American didn t deserve the same goods that Whites did. The African Americans
started boycotting and in 1964 African Americans got the same rights as everyone else.
Segregation affected the people living in the United states in many ways. One way is that African
American kids did not get the same education that Whites did. In Ruby Bridges Through my
Eyes, Ruby takes a test to see if she will get into an all white school. She goes to an all black
school and they don t have the same tools that they do in the all White school. In Segregation, the
kids thought that when they got the same rights they would be able to do the same things like
swim. Their parents were talking about how they would get a better education and make a living
out of themselves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Through my Eyes Ruby s parents ended splitting up in the end because they didn t agree on
Ruby going to school. Ruby s dad though that it was a bad idea for Ruby to go to school and that
they should just do what the whites want. The mom thought that if one of her kids got a chance to
get a better education that Ruby should take it and use it to make a living. In the Watsons go to
Birmingham the mom and dad have disagreements because the mom says they should have stayed
in the south and the dad disagrees. Also they have disagreements where the dad says that in the
North they give your kids integration and none of the segregation nonsense. Then the mom will say
at least in the south they say what they mean and don t keep lying to look

Isolation In Death Of A Salesman Essay
In today s society, there is an abundance of ways to isolate one s self. Many do not realize the
complications that come with prolonged isolation. Arthur Miller, an American playwright of
multiple plays, specifically Death of a Salesman, has won multiple awards, such as; Pulitzer Prize
for Drama, and a Tony Award for Best Play. Miller, is able to distinctly represent complications,
that are coupled with isolation, for Linda and Willy Loman, coping mechanisms for isolation are
vastly different from one another, and still they both succeed in contributing to Willy s own
isolation.
For some isolation is due to themselves, others are faced with isolation from another. Linda
Loman is the later. Blocked out from her husband, his mental stability, work aspects of his life,
and overall well being. Leaving Linda to learn how Willy is by accident and other sources, besides
him. Such as: Linda to Biff and Happy: ... When he has to go to Charley once a week and borrow
fifty dollars and pretend to me that it s his pay? [Death of a Salesman P.56], Linda to Biff and
Happy: He s been trying to kill himself. [Death of a Salesman P.58], and Linda to Biff and

Therefore in the study of the Geography of Religion , religion is viewed as a human institution ,
and its social, cultural and environmental impacts are studied. Most geographical research tends to
lean toward the geography of religion. This report will also follow the route of researching the
geography of religion .
Which religions are dominant in different places?
From the images above, it can be seen that Christianity is dominant in North America, South
America, Southern Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Europe, including Russia.
Islam is dominant in Northern Africa, South East Asia, the Middle East and a great part of South
West Asia.
The Image also indicates Hinduism as the third largest religion in the world, but it is only prevalent
in the South of Asia.
Why are certain religions dominant in different places?
In this paper, we will focus on Christianity, Islam and Judaism. The reason for this is that they are
the three main monotheistic religions and all began with the Semitic speaking people, who were
either indigenous to the deserts of south western Asia, or native to their borders. Nowadays, this

Frankenstein Midpoint Assessment

Glory is coveted by most and the pursuit of it can cause untold changes within an individual s
character. In spite of this, glory in whatever field possesses the threat of becoming an obsession.
Thus, the increasing extent to which one pursues their passion through their journey will shift it to
obsession and rid the subject of innocence often through violence. Both Victor Frankenstein and R.
Walton attempt to take on such a quest, however, Frankensteindisplays the adverse effects of such
an obsession.
The desire to create and discover is one endured by both Walton and Frankenstein; each realizing
that in attaining such glory, one must sacrifice their innocence. Walton expresses his need to
ВЁaccomplish some great purposeВЁ, citing that, to him, glory was more valuable than the
pecuniary advantage he already possesses (Shelley, p. 3). Despite his own thinking, Walton s
own search is truly one for self knowledge and wisdom, as his own soul is overcome with a
ВЁlove for the marvellous, a belief in the marvellousВЁ (Shelley, p.6). Thus, Walton is still
seeking to fulfill the peregrination his passion has set him on, hoping that he will find answers to
his own true purpose, under the disguise of glory (Foster, Chapter 1). Walton has yet to experience
a shift from passion to obsession, and thus, his innocence and naivety is still secured to his psyche.
He believes that this search will only bring him

The Ruined Maid
Thomas Hardy`s The Ruined Maid outlines the transition from a poor women to a ruined, yet
rich maid. His references to ruin are to lose virginity outside of wedlock, something considered a
disgrace in the time the poem was written. The poem looks at the choice of a life as an average
Dorset girl doing what was considered correct by spudding up docks or becoming ruined and
leading a high quality life, having the ability to strut about town . The Ruined Maid begins by
two former friends meeting, one a country girl and the other women, who was once a country girl,
but has now changed her life in the town. Firstly we are told about the maid`s change of clothing,
as she now wears fair garments as supposed to tatters, this is a sign

The later Middle Ages is characterized as a time of great transition and advancement, especially
pertaining to areas of politics, economics, art and intellect. A new trend towards the pursuit of new

Erasmus insisted that the dialectic method of the academic theologians had produced a theological
science that concentrated on trivial, abstruse questions of little or no real value to the needs of the
church (Nauert, 431).[vii] This argument became the basis for much of Erasmus highly esteemed,
accredited work; he was determined to defend [his] status as orthodox Catholic (Nauert, 431).[viii]
Soon, modern humanists greatest opposition was the church. Many criticized Erasmus, believing
that he lacked theological training and hence had neither a legal nor an intellectual right to speak
and publish on questions involving theology and the Bible (Nauert, 431).[ix] Until this point in my
discussion thus far, not much opposition has been mentioned. It is very important and essential to
note that this new topic of new knowledge created extreme amounts of tension, ultimately
culminating in the Protestant Reformation.
At the same as scholars such as Erasmus, Bacon and Galileo emerged, scholastic theologians
arrogantly sat back and issued condemnations, which greatly hindered the advancement of intellect
(Nauert, 431).[x] Clearly established thus far was the recently renewed desire for new knowledge;
in response, many new education establishments received great support and ideas began to
circulate. In order for the continuing and pursuit of the ever evolving goals of humanists, there
needed to be some change that would allow for this. This is one

Autism Spectrum Disorder ( Asd ) Essay
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a range of conditions grouped under the neurodevelopmental
disorders in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM 5) published in
2013 (Kress Paylo, 2015). Those who are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder must present
two types of symptoms: 1) Deficits in social communication and social interaction and 2)
Restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests or activities (APA, 2013). The DSM 5 merged
all autism disorders into one diagnosis of ASD. Before this publication, they were organized as
distinct subtypes, which included autistic disorder, childhood disintegrative disorder, pervasive
developmental disorder not otherwise specified (PDD NOS) and Asperger syndrome (Kress Paylo,
2015).
The Current Understanding of Disorder and Causes
Autism may be connected to early brain development but notable signs and symptoms of the
disorder have the propensity to manifest around 1 3 years old (APA, 2013). This disorder can at
times be linked to intellectual disability, motor coordination and attention difficulties as well as
physical health issues including sleep and gastrointestinal disturbances (CITE).
Researchers have found that ASD appears to follow two likely developmental courses, the first
development being a gradual progression, parents describe growing or potential concerns in
development over the first two years of life and diagnosis is made around 3 4 years old. Potential

Why Is Law Enforcement Important
Law Enforcement

Every society has rules to go by and laws that must not be broken and along with that is the criminal
justice that even gives the criminal rights. Criminals in the United States are to be given their rights
and not to have harm to them in any way under the justice system as they may be freed from their
prosecution and their case be acquitted if found in their favor if an act of unjust or immoral conduct
has been found. Law enforcement professionals must execute justice by upholding the law in an
ethical and constitutional manner. The United States Department of Justice seeks to prevent or

Bandura believes that people decide whether or not to adopt what behavior s they observe
(Bandura, 1977). There is a common perception that a criminal is has suffered a deprived
childhood, or is from a broken home and lacks a good education etc, but this is not true fact as
there is all kinds that go astray and for no apparent reason. As someone may have a good life and
has made it big and all of a sudden that is not good enough for them and they decide that
embezzling millions from their company they work for is a good ideal for unknown reasons. Law
enforcement professionals use criminal theory to understand criminal actions as Sutherland s major
sociological contribution to criminology was a differential association theory as it was similar to
the importance to the strain theory and social control theory. The individual s social relationship
explains the deviance of these theories. Both biological and classical theories, poses no obvious
threats to the humane treatment of those identified as criminals. (Gaylord, 1988:1) In the 1939
edition of Principles of Criminology, the first statement of the theory of differential association
appears and in the fourth edition as he presents his final theory. As follows his theory has 9 basic
postulates. 1. Criminal behavior is learned.
Criminal behavior is not inherited and does not invent criminal behavior.
2. Criminal behavior is learned through

Essay on Third World Development
Within the last 60 years, Third World development has been a global priority, at the top of
virtually every Western agenda. And with the rise of the global population and poverty levels
continuing to rise along with it, it is very easy to see why human development is becoming such a
topic of focus and discussion among members of the academia. But one question that everyone
wants the answer too is, how does Third World developmentfit into Globalization? Despite apparent
compatibility, when closely examined it is clear to see that Globalization actually contradicts Third
World development due to the conflict of agendas. Both Globalization and Development hold views
concerning market reform, social structure and regulation, which are... Show more content on

The lifeblood of these regimes is the dissatisfied citizens, the unimpressed masses who desire
revolution and freedom from poverty, which is propogated to have risen out of Capitalist
involvement in the Americas. Capitalist economies, on the other hand, believe that it has nothing to
do with their involvement and instead sees these stages of development as natural, something that
every economy will go through, if they have not already. Despite the appeal, it is untrue to say that
every developed nation has gone through stages of development that todays underdeveloped
nations are going through. As Andre Gunder Frank puts it the now developed countries were never
underdeveloped, though they may have been undeveloped (104). This goes to show that the
playing field was not even for all, and that today s developing nations had a headstart in
developing. Underdevelopment can also be, and has been, understood as a reflection or product of
the economic, social, political and cultural characteristics of said country. Yet with a look at history
we see that the underdevelopment of a satellite nation can be traced directly back to the past and
current economic relations the nation has held with developed metropoles . This relationship
between a metropolitan and satellite countries pertains back to the process and development of the
world capitalist system, which benefits its Western

Video On Underage Drinking
The video on underage drinking further highlighted information that I was already aware of.
Over the last several years, I have seen multiple news stories covering the Midwest s drinking
problem. According to Bustle.com, Lincoln was found to be one of the top ten drunkest cities in
America. This doesn t come as much of a shock to me. Drinking is part of Nebraska s culture.
Small Nebraska towns are full of drinkers; even minors are allowed to participate. Even though I
am from a small town, I didn t drinkuntil I was in college, and even then I did so in a responsible
manner. My family and friends never encouraged or participated in drinking, so I never really felt
the need to. However, the same can t be said for many of my high school peers.

Designing A Science Fair Project
In the seventh grade, I faced a challenge dreaded by many: designing a science fair project. I
researched some ideas, and found myself drawn to working with medication. I came up with a
simple experiment; it compared the dissolution rates of generic and brand name drugs. Before
the experiment, I knew virtually nothing about drugs, but as I did more research, I was intrigued.
I discovered that people debated the effectiveness of brand name versus generic drugs. It made no
sense to me. How could two drugs with the same active ingredients work differently? I was
genuinely curious as to what my results would be. What began as a tedious requirement soon
became a captivating task. Because I was interested in my topic, I truly enjoyed designing... Show

As a result, I changed my major to biochemistry at the end of my freshman year.
I spent the rest of college knowing I wanted to be a pharmacist. I studied and obtained my Pharmacy
Technician certification and license at the beginning of my sophomore year and became
employed a few months later. Ever since, I ve experienced constant affirmation that pharmacy
was right for me. I felt more motivated to attend and study for my classes because I actually
enjoyed what I was learning. I had classmates who detested our biology and organic chemistry
classes, but I was hooked. I was captivated by the way drugs interact with the neurotransmitters in
our body and how even the most minute changes to chemical structure can completely change the
route of action of a drug. The more upper level courses I took, the more reinforced my decision to
pursue pharmacy became. It just felt right. During my time working as a technician, I have
interacted with multiple pharmacists at different retail pharmacy locations. Because of this, I
observed how pharmacists interact with patients and gained experience adapting to different
clientele to best fit their needs. I love the feeling of instant gratification that I get when I am able
to help a patient. Through my experience, I realized that pharmacist s play a vital role in patient
care. I have seen how pharmacists counsel patients and create

Genetically Modified Crops
Genetically modified crops; what are they? Crops that have been scientifically altered, to create
a better species. Though crops can sometimes breed through cross breeding, with genetically
modified crops this is not the case. These crops have had pieces of DNA inserted into them to
create a superior race. The reason we produce these superior species of crops are because they
are often stronger, resistant to herbicides, quicker growing, and therefore cheaper to produce. That
way, the community as well as the farmers benefit from the genetically modified crops. The way
these GM crops are created is through the fusing of a plasmid and a new gene. This is done

2). However awful the study done by Gilles may seem, genetically modified crops are not only
altered to stop pests or create a bigger crop. There are many genetically modified plants in third
world countries being modified to add nutritional value, and many of them are also being used
to stop illnesses from spreading. Since 2000 there have been people working to be able to put
vaccines for certain illnesses in foods such as potatoes, tomatoes and rice. These vaccines would
be easier to transport, store and hand out than the shots that are usually given. This means that
there would be more people protected against illnesses than there are now, and stopping these
diseases from spreading and killing. Another way that genetically modified crops would be able
to help the third world countries is through making it easier to grow crops. As mentioned in
paragraph 2, there are pest and weed resistant crops, making it cheaper to produce. This could
prove to be an immense advantage for the third world countries, giving them the option to produce
their own food, sell it, and support themselves and their families. This would be an overall pro, as
the country would have more money, meaning it could spend it on education, healthcare and other
benefits. But how will these crops solve a problem? Will they really make sure that there is no
food shortage? And along with that take away the diseases in third world countries? That would be
a high hope for these crops. Though

  • 2. Cognitive Therapy And Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Essay Since the beginning of psychotherapy as a discipline and theoretical body of knowledge, there has been many different psychotherapies developed and practiced. Some psychotherapies share similarities and, at times, use the same mechanisms of change (e.g., cognitive therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy) while other psychotherapies are fundamentally distinct from each other (e.g., psychoanalysis and acceptance and commitment therapy). The integration of the mechanisms and theoretical basses of two or more psychotherapies has been sought out as a means to create methods of psychotherapythat are increasingly effective and useful for practitioners. Integrating aspects of different psychotherapies has been attempted in four ways; by using assimilative integration, technical eclecticism, theoretical integration, and common factors (CF). Assimilative integration is a popular method of practice that relies on the practitioner having one dominant theoretical grounding and using methods from other psychotherapies when they are seen to be useful in therapy. In other words, the therapist dominantly practices one theoretical orientation, which he or she uses for the fundamental cause of pathology and most therapeutic techniques, while using techniques from other theoretical orientations when they would benefit particular patients or be suitable in certain situations. An example of the assimilative integration approach is when a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) practitioner decides ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Cecil The Lion Peter Singer Analysis Remember Cecil the Lion? A lot of people were shocked, even outraged, when they heard about his death at the hands of an American hunter in 2015. The response to the lion s death was so strong that the guy who shot Cecil basically went into hiding until he issued an apology. Our society reacts with horror when we hear about a majestic lion being shot or sacks of kittens being tossed into rivers, or owners training their dogs to fight each other for sport. However, what is the difference between killings Cecil and killing a duck, deer, cow, pig, or a chicken? How do we reconcile the strong feelings many of us have about certain animals, mainly the cute ones like kittens and puppies, with the way we actual use animals in our own lives? Most of us think nothing about using non human animals for their meat, milk, or skins and not only do we use animals in these ways, but using them as we do almost always harms them. A common method for testing cosmetics, for example, involves restraining rabbits and putting the product into their eyes, leaving it for a set amount of time and then washing it out and checking for adverse reactions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Singer reminds us that there was a time when most Americans thought it was totally normal and right for members of one group to literally own members of another group based on a morally irrelevant difference, skin color. Today, the members of the oppressing group look back on the reasoning of their ancestors with horror and shame. Singer predicts that there will be a time when our descendants look back on us and our treatment of non human animals with the same reaction. In a nutshell, Singer says, If it s not okay to do it to a human, then it s not okay to do it to an animal either. You might think that you agree with Singer, but do you really agree with ... • 5. Anti-Aging Benefits Of The Mediterranean Diet Anti Aging Benefits of Mediterranean Diet September 15, 2016 Jonathan Swift said, Everybody wants to live forever, but nobody wants to grow old. Wouldn t it be nice? If we could stay healthy and young, living as long as possible would be great. Because that is a deep down desire of the majority, many people are always on a quest to slow down the aging process. So, our question for today is: What are the Anti Aging Benefits of the Mediterranean Diet? First, we must acknowledge that no diet in the world can halt or slow the aging process. Aging is inevitable and food is not the elixir of life although the type of food you choose can lengthen or shorten your life. What has been proven by numerous studies is that the Mediterranean diet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People eat whatever is the most convenient with little regard for their health. This is very upsetting and dangerous for the population as a whole. There is a wide assumption that healthy food is not delicious. They believe that they must live on a steady diet of raw carrots and steamed chicken breasts and decide that is not for them. They would much rather have a fast food burger and cheese fries instead it s easier and tastier. What they don t know is that the Mediterranean Diet is filled with DELICIOUS AND HEALTHY food, which is why people in the Mediterranean Region are often healthier and live longer lives than Americans. The foundation of the Med Diet is fresh vegetables. In the US, vegetables are typically an afterthought, with unhealthy choices like fried potatoes being classified as vegetables. When you make vegetables the center of your meals, you will get your daily dose of antioxidants to fight the free radicals in your body; plus give your body necessary nutrients and keep your skin healthy and supple. • 6. Analyzing A Wide Range Of Environmental Data PMF is a mathematical receptor model that is used to analyze a wide range of environmental data. The model has been widely used in air, water, and lake and ocean sediments research to determine the sources of pollutants. This model reduces the large number of variables in intricate analytical data sets to just a few combinations known as source types and contributions while providing very robust uncertainty estimates and data diagnostics. The identification of the source types is achieved by matching the different sources with the measured profiles of individual sample chemical constituents. The source contributions are basically used to determine how much each source/factor contributed to the pollutants in the analyzed sample(s). The PMF ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The model limits the factor loadings and scores to only the non negative values, which significantly minimizes the uncertainty that may be caused by any rotating factors. The mass balance equation for the PMF model accounting for all the m chemical species in n samples as contributions from p independent sources can be written as shown in Eq. (3.8); X_ij= ∑_(k=1)^pв –’g_ik f_kj+ e_ij Eq.(3.8) where, Xij = the elemental concentration for the jth species on the ith day, gik = the contribution of kth factor to the receptor model on the ith day, fkj = the proportion of the kth factor that is species j, and eij = the residual for the jth species on the ith day. While using the PMF model, there exists a set of fundamental, natural physical constraints or checks that have to be obeyed. These include: The model must reproduce the original data. i.e., the model must explain all the observations in the input data set. The expected/ predicted source compositions must all have non negative values. Any given source cannot have a negative proportion of an element or any other given pollutant species. • 8. Bhagavad Gita Reincarnation Essay The duration of life in a material reality may be very long, but all living bodies in the material world are eventually subject to a thing of the past and have to again develop other bodies. This idea of one life coming after another, continuing an endless cycle of life; allows death to never exist. In the epic Bhagavad Gitaby the scribe Veda Vyasa, the theme of reincarnation is portrayed by Lord Krishna, telling a young warrior named Arjuna, to not dwell on the physical nature of this world because it can all be born again. In the Hindu religion, karma exists, which means whatever acts have been acted upon and whatever thoughts have been though having created an impression on the physical nature of the world and in the infinite universe. Arjuna is in the midst of charging to battle towards his cousins over the inheritance of the kingdom. The cousins exiled them, but with a vow that Arjuna and his brothers could reclaim the throne under certain conditions. Arjuna complied with the circumstances and completed them. In court, the cousin King violates his vow and brings about an unforgivable deed, ending in war. Now on the battlefield, Arjuna sees all of his loved ones on the opposite side of the void between two warring parties. At the sight of those who raised Arjuna to be a man stand to oppose him, I am unstrung, my limbs collapse/beneath me, and my mouth is dry/there is a trembling in my body (The Bhagavad Gita pg. 1286). However, Islam also differs from these two faiths on important aspects related to prophet hood. For instance, Islam teaches that all prophets of God were of high moral character and did not succumb to the sins their people committed. For example, Islam exonerates Aaron even though the Old Testament depicts him as someone who worshipped the golden calf. I believe in the prophets because we are obliged to believe in and honor all of the prophets, and to testify that prophet hood has been completed with the coming of Prophet Muhammad. In Islam, the purpose of life is to live in a way that is pleasing to Allah so that one may gain Paradise. If you plan to learn the Korean language or are currently learning the language, you ll find that applying honorifics is one of the more difficult things or probably a complicated aspect to learn. However, it is imperative that you learn to implement honorifics in your speech because if not, you will be deemed really rude by Koreans. Let s start off with the most common instance when you should use honorific language. First, Koreans value age. The older you are the more you are respected because of your seniority. So the first thing you have to keep in mind is when speaking to a much older person, apply honorifics in your speech. Korean speech is in the Subject/Object/Verb format as opposed to Subject/Verb/Object for English. To use honorific speech, you must add a yo or seyo at the end of your sentences. seyo which is the combination of shi + oyo is much more respectful. • 18. Gender Inequality Of Equal Pay For Women Introduction: On January 29, 2016, The White House Press Office released a FACT SHEET on new steps to advance equal pay for women. This FACT SHEET states that, the median wage of a woman working full time all year in the United States is about $39,600 only 79 percent of a man s median earnings of $50,400 (The White House, 2016). However, many scholars and economists disagree that a gender wage gap exists. In addition, conservative political experts and bloggers promote the notion that gender based wage gap is an idea propagated by feminists, women empowering organizations, and progressives. However, almost all the working women in the United States, and organizations such as Institute for Women s Policy Research (IRWP), and American Association of University Women (AAAU), strongly believe in the existence of the gender wage gap. This sociological issue of equal pay for women is extremely relevant in today s environment where women perform equal work as men in many occupations. Furthermore, with almost 50% of the work force being women, women contributing equally to the family income, and a large number of women being the single parents supporting children, lack of equal pay over time could increase the poverty rates for women (White House, 2016). In addition, IWPR s 2015 report on the status of American women, states that if women receive equal pay for the same work, the poverty rate among women will see a reduction from 8.2% to 4%, an almost 50% reduction (Hess et ... The ability for a firm to create an integrated system that yields a continual flow of talent ready to address specific strategic and operational opportunities may be the single most enduring competitive advantage. Boudreau and Ramstad (2002) propose focusing on pivotal talent or the talent where improvements in capabilities will make the most significant impact on competitive advantage. When talent management is integrated into strategic business planning, there is an opportunity to discuss the capabilities and skills needed to execute the plan. • 21. Gliomedin Within a neuron, neurofascin is bound ankyrin G, which is bound to Na+ channels. Somehow, the binding of neurofascin (expressed by axon) to gliomedin (expressed by the Schwann cell) is involved in the formation of nodes of Ranvier. Gliomedin is only expressed when the Schwann cell is in physical contact with the axon. Therefore, for the formation of nodes of Ranvier, three things must occur. First, the Schwann cellmust make physical contact with the axon. Then, it must express gliomedin. Finally, gliomedin must form a complex with neurofascin (expressed by the axon). This was determined through a set of experiments. To determine if sodium channel clustering depended on glial cells, hippocampal cells were cultured in the absence of glial cells. This experiment showed that, in the absence of glial cells, Na+ channels were found along the entire length of the axon. They were not concentrated in clusters. Then, another experiment was conducted to determine if the node of Ranvier formation was contact dependent. In this experiment, the dorsal root ganglia were bathed in the extracellular fluid of Schwann cells. Again, nodes of Ranvier did not form. This showed that the node of Ranvier formation mechanism was contact dependent. Another experiment was done to determine if node of Ranvier formation depended on molecular signaling between the Schwann cells and the axon. In this experiment, Schwann cells on a myelinated axon were killed. The nodes of Ranvier disappeared. This showed that molecular signaling played a role in node of Ranvier formation. This is demonstrated throughout the novel by presenting several characters with mysterious backgrounds, deploying an unknown narrator, and leaving the end of the book on a cliffhanger. All of these elements come together to show that the nature of loveis pure mystery. The main character, John Wade, is full of mystery. As a child, he was extremely interested in magic. He even relied on it as a coping mechanism when his father died. As an adult, his interest in magic didn t fade. When he was in the army, his nickname was Sorceror. Once in the army, John Wade began not only to hide the secrets of his magic, but also secrets of his personal life. Once he came back from the war, this habit only got worse. The narrator of the novelalso exhibits mystery. Nobody knows who he is, or why he is telling this story. His purpose could be considered just as much of a mystery as what happened to Kathy. Lastly, the ending of the book clearly exudes mystery, since there is never an answer confirming what happened to Kathy. The mystery of the narrator is almost as important as what happened to Kathy. Even though the narrator tells a large part of the story, there is no mention of who he really is. The narrator clearly knows every intimate detail about John and Kathy s relationship, and knows tons about John and his childhood as well. • 38. The Primary Mechanisms for Sex Determination Across the... Manolakou et al. suggest that there are three primary mechanisms for sex determination across the animal kingdom. The first is environmental factors. Fish and Reptiles do not have chromosomes that determine the sex of the offspring. The temperature is the primary determinant. Some organisms sex will be determined by specific environmental factors like temperature during the right developmental stages of the embryo. This is referred to as the thermosensitive period (TSP). The second mechanism is when a specific gene is responsible for a cascade effect that will ultimately determine the sex of the offspring. This mechanism is seen in some invertebrates like insects, and amphibians. The single regulating gene has not yet been determined. The third mechanism is the occurrence of individual sex chromosomes like what we see in mammals. In mammals the males are heterozygous and the females are homozygous, but in birds the opposite is true, but birds still have distinct sex chromosomes. Some organisms have distinct sex determining chromosomes, but they have yet to be discovered. How or why certain organisms develop into certain gender is not necessarily known, but the idea that there could be some sort of governing pattern could lend itself useful to comparative biology and reproductive endocrinology. Haplodiploid genetic system is a very curious mechanism in insects. The insects can be either uniparental or biparental, meaning one parent or two. The females can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Features Of Athenian Democracy Background, context and ideas of chosen philosophy In approximately 550 B.C., democracy came to Athens in Greece. The word Democracy was first known to be used by Herodotus in 440 B.C. Athenian Democracy was a system of direct democracy, where participating citizens voted directly on legislation and executive bills. Although not everyone who lived in Athens could participate in the democracy. Only male citizens over 18 could take part, and a majority of the population at the time weren t citizens. Participating in the democratic process came with full time responsibility. According to Xenophon, most participants had slaves to work for them and some scholars point out that without slaves, democracy would not have been possible. Athenian democracy was unique among political structures of the ancient world where the majority were monarchies where a king or another single ruler had absolute power over everybody else or shared it with a few selected aristocrats. One of the things that made Athenian democracy unique is that all free male citizens decided all important questions or actually ruled the country through voting on an assembly. Military generals were also selected and such. Athenian democracy influenced later modern democracy through ideas that were picked up by others in Europe mostly in 1700 s such as Rousseau, Voltaire, Hobbes and others who advocated restriction of absolute monarchy and liberalism. The power of Brett Hull s slap shot does not come from brut strength but from range of motion as well. A forward cannot only have flexibility in certain spots, but they need it throughout the body because hockey uses practically every muscle in the body. Thus, the increasing extent to which one pursues their passion through their journey will shift it to obsession and rid the subject of innocence often through violence. Both Victor Frankenstein and R. Walton attempt to take on such a quest, however, Frankensteindisplays the adverse effects of such an obsession. The desire to create and discover is one endured by both Walton and Frankenstein; each realizing that in attaining such glory, one must sacrifice their innocence. Despite his own thinking, Walton s own search is truly one for self knowledge and wisdom, as his own soul is overcome with a ВЁlove for the marvellous, a belief in the marvellousВЁ (Shelley, p.6). Thus, Walton is still seeking to fulfill the peregrination his passion has set him on, hoping that he will find answers to his own true purpose, under the disguise of glory (Foster, Chapter 1). Autism Spectrum Disorder ( Asd ) Essay Autism Spectrum Disorder Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a range of conditions grouped under the neurodevelopmental disorders in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM 5) published in 2013 (Kress Paylo, 2015). Those who are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder must present two types of symptoms: 1) Deficits in social communication and social interaction and 2) Restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests or activities (APA, 2013). The DSM 5 merged all autism disorders into one diagnosis of ASD.
