Evaluating Kodak s Corporate Strategy
Background Eastman Kodak Company, headquartered in Rochester New York, was founded in 1889.
The corporation, now multinational and focusing on imaging and photographic equipment, posted
revenues in excess of $6 billion in 2011. During most of the 20th century Kodak was dominant in the
photographic film industry in 1976 it held 90% of the market but began a downward slide once the
Internet, digital cameras and computer processing grew. By 2007, Kodak ceased making a profit and
in January 2012 filed for bankruptcy protection and ceased making cameras, video cameras and began
to focus on the corporate digital imaging market (De La Merced, 2012). In evaluating Kodak s
corporate strategy from the mid 1980s onward, we find that there four major management paradigms

St Gall Analysis
Introduction
The monastery plan of St. Gall is a document that uniquely captures an early medieval nature not only
in its architecture but also in its life forms.
This plan is one of the most remarkable visualizations of a building complex produced during the
early ninth century.
It provides direct insight into the organization of the medieval monastery.
Making of Plan / Physical Descriptions
The plan of St. Gall provides an overall snapshot of an institution of about forty buildings inhabited by
about 110 monks, with an equal number of laypeople who served as support staff. The plan was drawn
on parchment 30.5 inch x 44 inch sewn together from five separate pieces. The building name
/purpose is written in Latin using dark brown ink. The designer of this plan also has a dedicatory
legend indicated to the top margin above the cemetery/orchard.
The plan of St. Gall includes a church, scriptorium lodging for visiting monks, a monastic dormitory,
refectory, school, kitchen, bake and brew house, guest house, abbot s residence, an infirmary,
numerous fields and industrial out buildings; along with fences, walls, gardens, orchids and roads.
The plan of St. Gall is referred as a replication of an original prototype. This orchestration was not
concretely designed for a particular site. According to Prof. Mark Jarzombek s article, The Medieval
Monastery: The Plan of St. Gall, It is an ideal plan incorporating the monastic reforms promulgated at
the synods held at Louis the

Lumbar Pain Case Studies
REASON CHIEF COMPLAINT: Cervical and lumbar pain. HISTORY The patient is a 62 year old
male with a long history of cervical and lumbar pain secondary to degenerative disk disease and
spondylosis. He also is noted to have multiple other problems including a fairly severe left rotator cuff
arthropathy which does require surgery on the left. It is important to note that this is important because
the patient has been wheelchair bound since 2013 and now has difficulty with ambulation. He also has
a history of prior cervical decompression in the remote past at C3 4. The patient complains of both
cervical and lower extremity pain as well as radiating symptoms in the left upper extremity all the way
down into the level of the hand. He denies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both in the cervical and lumbar region. In terms of conservative management, the patient may benefit
from the addition of an SNRI and either gabapentin or pregabalin. He could also benefit from a
tricyclic. I did discuss all of these with the patient and he is fairly adverse to the use of any of these
types of medications because of feelings that it will affect his liver. At the same time, he is currently
on methadone which he states does not seem to help him as much as morphine has in the past. A
switch to extended release morphine sulfate could be performed and would help in terms of not only
his neuropathic pain, but also his nociceptive pain. In terms of injection therapy, I did discuss both
cervical and lumbar injection therapy with the patient. I went through with him the indications, risks,
benefits, alternatives of care, likely outcome, possible complications, including but not limited to the
risk of bleeding, infection, nerve injury, spinal cord injury that could be associated with injection
therapy. Furthermore, because of the fact that he is a diabetic, he would be at increased risk with
regards to hyperglycemia after the injection and also at increased risk for infection in general. At the
same time, I did review with him the rare but catastrophic adverse events including blindness,

Autosomal Dominant Autosomal Recessive Disorder
1. Autosomal dominant genes are modified copies of the gene in a given cell. This is enough for
someone to become affected by an autosomal dominant disorder. The person that inherits the given
disorder would do so from a parent that is also affected by the same gene. Some disorders that fit into
this classification are Huntingtons disease and Marfan syndrome. When a person is affected by an
autosomal recessive disorder, both copies will be mutated in these genes. When a person has been
diagnoses with an autosomal recessive disorder, the parents will each be a carrier of one copy of each
mutated gene, however, they will typically not display any signs of symptoms of having this
condition. Autosomal recessive disorders are not necessarily passed down to each and every
generation, but can also skip generations as it transforms. Some well known diseases that are
autosomal recessive are cystic fibrosis, as well as sickle cell anemia. X linked dominant disorders are
produced by changes of the X chromosome on the gene. Females have two X chromosomes. A
mutation in one of the two copies of the gene of each cell is enough to cause a disorder. Males only
have one X chromosome, so metamorphosis in only one copy of the gene from each cell is a
foundation for the disorder as well. Males can also not pass the gene on to another male, such as their
son. It is also not uncommon for males to experience more severe symptoms or reactions of the
disorder than that of a female. An example

Summary Of Tipping Point
In this chapter of Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, he talks about rumors, sneakers and the power
of translation. Throughout the chapter he kept with the theme of change and the way that things can
change over time. The concept of change and shoes throughout this chapter is evident. Gladwell
writes, They expanded their focus to include not just skateboarding but also surfing, snowboarding,
mountain biking, and bicycle racing, sponsoring riders in all of those sports and making Arwalk
synonymous with active, alternative lifestyle ( Gladwell 194). Many people ask why do they have to
produce so much more to compliment everyone in every sport or just for everyday wear? Gladwell

Leadership Styles During The Workplace
Different leadership styles result in various results in the workplace. The Fiedler contingency model
postulates a leader s style is static; however, God can transform anyone s heart and thus their
leadership style. Additionally, the grapevine can be an important tool for employers. As long as each
individual chooses to use gossip for honorable purposes, God will bless the workplace.

Approaches to Leadership
There are many different ways in which individuals lead. Whether implicit or by choice, the style and
the way it is applied can lead to success or failure in the workplace. My boss and I approach
leadership in completely different ways. While my boss leans toward only a transactional style,
specifically Laissez faire, or management by exception, I prefer a combination of transactional and
translational styles. According to Robbins and Judge (2012), Laissez faire is the most passive and
therefore least effective of leader behaviors (Robbins Judge, 2012, p. 382). Additionally, management
by exception is somewhat better, however it remains one of the weakest leadership styles. Leaders
using this style fail to be engaged with the employees unless and until there is an issue requiring their

Why Cats Are Better Than Dogs
Have you ever been bitten by a dog or scratched by a cat? I have before and I would take a scratch
before another dog bite any day. And thats why I m telling you these reason why cats are better pets
than dogs. Many families become interested in a family pet. For a new family with kids an animal that
takes up a lot of time wouldn t be ideal. Dogs are that kind of pet, they take up a lot of time and need a
lot of care. Cats on the other hand are very independent and can do most things on there own. Cats can
be left alone for long periods of time. So for example say you were on vacation and you can t bring
any animals. A cat would be an easy animal to kiss and say goodbye to but a dog has many
responsibilities and can t be left alone. With a dog you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All dogs good or bad have that gross wet dog smell and need baths often. However cats are way more
efficient, they clean themselves. And that helps with many things. LIke how a dog needs a groomer to
cut his hair every 6 months which can get pricey But cats are low cost when it comes
grooming/bathing. Another example is that many cats are bug repellents. Yes bugs are a cats own
chew toy that flies around with no batteries. Cats are a clean, independant animal that helps with
insect problems I would say that cats are a way better animal and pet. We all can relate when it comes
to funny cat videos. Whether they involve cats bouncing off the walls or just running into them we can
easily say that cats are very comical animals even if they don t know it. A cat is comical but not as
destructive as other pets. They are very agile and can easily regain balance before crashing into your
furniture. Finally when it comes to laser pointers and cats, it is hands down hilarious and best of all
with a cat all of this funny attributes is free entertainment. After a long day we all could use some
laughter with a cat you get that and maybe a cuddle buddy

A Note On Dyscalculia
About Dyscalculia:
Dyscalculia comes from the Greek and Latin which means counting badly the prefix dys comes from
the Greek and means badly . Calculia comes from the Latin calculare which means to count The term
dyscalculia dates back to at least 1949.
Dyscalculia is difficulty in learning or comprehending arithmetic such s difficulty in understanding
numbers learning how to manipulate numbers and learning facts in Mathematics. The (Department for
Education and Science 2001) define dyscalculia as A condition that affects the ability to acquire
arithmetical skills. Dyscalculic learners may have difficulty understanding simple number concepts
and lack an intuitive grasp of numbers and have problems learning number facts and procedures.

Assessing Dyscalculia:
There are no particular tests to assess dyscalculia but a paper pencil test is helpful to understand or
evaluate how the person uses math concepts and numbers. The person s expected and actual levels of
understanding are assessed with specific strengths and weaknesses.
Basic assessment involves Assessing adding, subtracting, dividing, and multiplying.
Base on understanding patterns able to predict correct procedure i.e., when to add, divide or use
advanced computations.
Organize objects in a logical way.
Telling time, using money and ability to measure.
Estimating number quantities.
Ability to self checks and finds alternative ways to solve problems.

Accounting Standards Boards Paper
Accounting Standards Boards Paper
In recent years there has been significant changes made in our understanding of the relationship
between the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and the Financial Accounting
Standards Board (FASB). At present both the IASB and FASB are working on a joint venture referred
to as the convergence project in hopes of eliminating a variety of differences between International
Financial Reporting Standards and U.S. GAAP. Another area covered in this paper besides a brief
history of the relationship between the IASB and FASB will be how the MSA program will prepare
students for the accounting profession. The intent of this paper will be to address both issues first;

is the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). The FASB is a private organization responsible
for establishing a broad range of reporting standards and specific accounting rules. The FASB has
made possible for investors, creditors, auditors, and others a means of using financial information that
is transparent and comparable here in the U.S.
IASB and FASB Relationship
On November 18, 2002 the FASB and IASB came together at a meeting in Norwalk, Connecticut to
start the wheels in motion for the purpose of establishing a new set of financial standards. The FASB
and IASB are committed to create financial standards that will be accepted both domestically and
internationally that are of high quality and compatible for financial reporting. At present more than a
100 countries already use the International Financial Reporting Standards. The U.S. at present has not
accepted a changed in accounting procedures; therefore, this is going to be a major task for both the
FASB and IASB to complete successfully this union. I do believe that the partnership between the
FASB and IASB will achieve the goals of creating a common financial reporting set of standards that
will be accepted by all.
The Convergence Project
The convergence project is to be divided into a short term and long term process. The short term
projects will consist of issues that can be dealt within a time frame of up to two years. In this time
frame the hope is to reduce

Similarities Between Homo Habilis, Homo Rudolfensis, And...
For a long time, it had been assumed that evolution happened in a systematic manner and that no two
or more species of human ancestors existed at the same time. Because of such an assumption, it has
become very hard to determine the exact ancestors when two populations dated to the same
geographical location and time. In this essay, I will discuss the difference between the Homo Habilis,
Homo Rudolfensis, and the Paranthropus Boisei in order to show why I believe the Homo habilis is
our direct ancestor despite the three populations having existed within the same region and time span.
The fossils of Home habilis species were discovered by Dr Louis Leakey in Tanzania. Among the
distinguishing characteristics include the increased cranial size as compared to its ancestor, the
africanus. The fossil also indicated an increased grip hand size due to size and type of hand bones. The
other feature is that the fossil indicated a reduced size of the teeth. The evidence showed that the
ancestor had molars longer instead of wider. As a result of the increased grip, it was concluded that
this human ancestor used tools for survival. Homo habilis means the handy man because the scientists
thought the species to be the first to make tools (Denis, 2008).
Due to the features of their teeth type, these species are thought to have been consumers of softer food
and than their ancestors. According to the gathered evidence, scientists have been able to link the
evidence to the consumption of meat

Theories Of Acquiring Language
Acquiring language is one of the most important processes in human life. Unlike animals, human
beings are able to acquire a native language and they do so in a procedure that takes time. During this
procedure, human beings start to learn alphabet, forming words, forming sentences and after all they
learn how to communicate with other people. In his book A Dictionary of Phonetics and Linguistics
(2008), David Crystal mentions that this acquisition procedure is not only required for one s mother
tongue, but it is also used when children come to learn a foreign language or a second language. This
definition that Crystal gives in his book has a relationship with the theory of Language Acquisition
Device made by Noam Chomsky.
Noam Chomsky believes that every single child has in his brain a language acquisition device .
Chomsky suspects that every single born child has this mechanism in his brain that helps him acquire
the language, which is spoken in his environment. He believes that this is something biological and
this helps the child s brain to form the main principles of his language such as grammar. Chomsky
notices that after children acquire this knowledge about grammar, they have to learn vocabulary so
they begin to form sentences. Chomsky specifies that children could not learn their native language
properly because most of the time, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Pop Star Of Hip Hop Sensation
Hip hop sensation Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga are two exemplary American artists that appear to be
making potentially feminist statements about female independency, beauty norms and female
sexuality. Lady Gaga is a pop star but she also calls herself as a performance artist. She emphasizes
and cherishes the visual images and costumes on stage. This essay s focus on Nicki Minaj and Lady
Gaga s characteristic that they both are feminist pop star. They look at things from the perspective of
progressive women and express in their own ways. Their colours aren t one off its commonly seen in
their oeuvres. In particular this essay will look at the relationship between their music videos,

Anaconda has raised both eyebrows and voices as branding the blatant female sexuality as porn in
judgments like booty shaking. It is different as it doesn t defame other criticized groups to make a
point about feminism and the power of women. On the contrary, as a black woman, Nicki Minaj
especially uses the song mainly for the empowerment of other black women, something already
possible in the title and backing track, based on Sir Mix A Lot s 1992 hit Baby Got Back , a song
originally embodies black women and their bodies. Minaj converts the song through their femininity
by making it about black women and their empowerment. Minaj s gestures and lyrics seem to
empower. The dancers, also black women, are on balance with Minaj, in video both physically
composite and use the dancers as props and extras. She refers skinny women in the club got nothing

and sizes suggesting that she eats well, works out hard, loves her curves and booty. In Anaconda ,
Minaj absolutely overthrow the Sir Mix A Lot s Baby Got Back original tone and taking black woman

like her . It also manages to do this without discriminating against people who perpetuate racism and
misogyny or oppressors , such as the white feminists who further objectify women of colour . Instead,

Afghanistan Of The Soviet Union
For over 2 centuries, Afghanistan has known virtually no time without war. Beginning around 326
B.C. with the conquests of Alexander the Great, to the Persians, British, Russians and most recently,
America and our NATO allies, Afghanistan has been cultivated into the country that it is today through
a trial by fire. Regardless of this relentless onslaught of foreign military power, the Afghan people
have tirelessly defended their homeland with no outside power ever being able to subdue them
completely. Following the withdrawal of the Soviet Union in 1989, the country fell into civil war, torn
even further apart by fiercely dedicated tribal warlords. This power vacuum led to the rise of a group
called the Taliban. Led by a one eyed man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Young men who join the Taliban are not as ideological. They are motivated by money and the Taliban
s willingness to pay them, adventure seekers and those who long for the status that only power can
provide. Furthermore, they long for a change to their country that has not come since 2001. During
this time, they have found rage in instances such as a local villager being killed or wounded in an
attack by Afghan, U.S., or NATO forces.
The Taliban have four basic goals that they also view as phases. First is to utilize the devout religious
commitment found in Afghanistan and Pakistan to mobilize the public. Second is to rally the Pashtun
tribes through the Pashtunwali code of honor, which a Pashtun must adhere to in order to maintain his
honor and identity as a Pashtun. This code includes many important facets including Nang (honor),
Badal (revenge), Melmastia (hospitality), Nanawatay (to seek forgiveness), and Hamsaya (one who
shares the same shadow) (30). The Taliban also hopes to further their longtime goal of toppling Kabul
by emphasizing the Pashtuns subjugation by a predominantly non Pashtun government (??) Thirdly,
they hope to build up confidence in their organization while simultaneously attacking the legitimacy
of the IROA, coalition forces, and the Government of Pakistan. (57) Lastly, once the Western

What Is King Lear Evil
A major theme in Shakespeare s play King Lear is evilness. Goneril is considered to be one of the
most evil characters in the play. The play makes her look evil but she is misunderstood and a victim of
circumstance. One can sympathize Goneril and justify why she acted the way she did. Goneril was
given a lack of love from her father. Her father favoured Cordelia causing her to be jealous, Lear was
cruel and inconsiderate to her, and her relationship with her father caused her to have unsuccessful
relationships with other men. In the beginning of the play Lear asks his infamous question which of
you shall we say doth love us most (1.1.49). Lear creates a competition between his three daughters.

complains about King Lear s knights in a polite manner he answers her rudely. Goneril says I do
beseech you / To understand my purposes aright. / As you are old and reverend, should be wise./ Here
do you keep a hundred knights and squires; Men so disordered, so debauched and bold / That this our
court, infected with their manners, / Shows like a riotous inn (1.4.234 240). Lear overreacts and
responds Degenerate bastard, I ll not trouble thee; / Yet have I left a daughter. (1.4.250 251). He also
responds More hideous when thou showest thee in a child / Than the sea monster (1.4.257 258). He
then continues to say Hear, Nature, hear, dear goddess, hear! / Suspend thy purpose if thou didst
intend / To make this creature fruitful. Into her womb convey sterility; / Dry up in her the organs of
increase, / And from her derogate body never spring / A babe to honor her. If she must teem, / Create
her child of spleen, that it may live / And be a thwart disnatured torment to her (1.4.273 280). Farther
into the play King Lear says But yet thou art my flesh, my blood, my daughter; / Or rather a disease
that s in my flesh, / Which I must needs call mine. Thou art a boil, / A plague sore or embossed
carbuncle, / In my corrupted blood (2.4.221 225). First he calls her a bastard, then he calls her ugly,
and then he prays to the Gods that she will not be able to have children., and then he says that she is a
disease. What kind of father says those things to his daughter? Goneril feels worthless and devalued.

Brain Reflection
Whole grain is a great brain stimulator because it contains high percentage of folate.
Make sure you re eating a diet rich in whole grain breads, cereals, barley, popcorn, etc., because they
can boost your blood flow to the brain. Every organ in the body is dependent on blood flow...
especially the brain.
Wholegrain breads and cereals are rich in Vitamin B6, an important brain vitamin. Wheat germ
additionally contains memory improving thiamine.
Nuts
Everything from the most common nuts such as walnuts, hazelnuts, cashews and almonds to the more
exotic seeds and nuts can clear up that brain fog and enable you to think clearer and are positive mood
enhancers.
2. Walnuts
Both literally and figuratively speaking, walnuts are brain food . Physically the walnut looks a lot like
the human brain. The thin, outer green cover that is taken out before the walnuts are sold is similar to
the scalp. The hard shell of a walnut is like a skull. The thin sheet inside, with its paper like partitions
between the two halves of the walnut, is like the membrane. The shape of the walnut itself represents
the human brain s two hemispheres. Walnuts are made up of 15 to 20 percent protein and contain
linoleic (omega 6 fatty acids) and alpha linoleic acids (omega 3 fatty acids), vitamin E and vitamin
B6, making them an excellent source of nourishment for your nervous system.
Omega 3 fatty acids found in walnuts are especially helpful in brain function. Our brain is more than

beloved Jamaican Sprinter and Ambassador Usain Bolt, set three world records and won three gold
medals. I am Jamaican by birth and like all other Jamaicans Usain Bolt holds a special place in my
heart because of his will, grit and tenacity. Every record they said he wouldn t break he has broken and
then went on to break his own records and every criticism he has received he has let roll off his
shoulders and continue to perform outstandingly and with style. Bolt brought track and field into a
different era when he won in 9.69 s with a reaction time of 0.165 s in the 2008 Olympic 100m final. In
doing this he broke his own world record, and finished well ahead of second place finisher Richard
Thompson, who finished in 9.89 s. This record is even more remarkable because it was set without a
favorable wind (+0.0 m/s), and towards the finish line he slowed to celebrate and his shoelace was
untied. In fact, sans these factors and considering his position, acceleration and velocity in comparison
to his competitors; his coach and the Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics at the University of Oslo

It was not believed however that he would beat Michael Johnson s record of 19.32 which was set in
the 1996 summer Olympics in Atlanta. Bolt s time was 19.30 in spite the fact he was impeded by a
headwind of 0.9 m/s and he ended his run with a jog twice. Two days later, as the third leg of the
Jamaican 4x100 meters relay team, his number of gold medals increased to three and along with his
teammates Asafa Powell, Michael Frater and Nesta Carter, he broke another Olympic and World
record, by three tenths of a second. He left the 2008 Olympics having broken 3 Olympic and World

Grief In Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is a book written by Jonathan Safran Foer, who centers his story
around multiple losses and grief between different characters in the story. The two characters that are
the main focus of grief in the story was a little boy named Oskar Schell and his grandfather, Thomas
Schell. Oskar had lost his father during the 9/11 attacks and as a little boy he was having a hard time
coping with his father s death. Even after two years, he is still very depressed, inflicting harm on
himself and becoming furious with his mother and others around him. What Oskar does to get over
that grief and loss is make inventions or write letters. He mentions that most of the things he does
reminds him of his father and he starts to get Heavy Boots . Since Oskar does not want to upset his
mother, he hides the final recorded messages of his father and makes jewelry with the morse code

He was grieving the loss of his wife s sister, Anna, who he previously had been in a relationship with
and still loves. He would always talk about her and write about her in his letters and journal. Thomas
was not only grieving the loss of Anna but also the loss of both his children. Anna supposedly was
pregnant with Thomas s child, and after the bombing in Dresden, he assumes that Anna died with the
baby. When Thomas realizes this devastation , he grieves heavily and falls in his mourning, which
leads him to move to the U.S and make a new life for himself. Later in the story he meets Oskar s
grandmother, and they get married and Oskar s grandmother is pregnant. Thomas mentions that Oskar
s grandmother reminds him of Anna very much and that he married the grandmother out of grief and
guilt or probably in hopes of receiving a second chance at life. When Thomas found out that she was

Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Four Wheel Steering System
2.1 Vehicle Dynamic Expressions
2.1.1 Ackerman Steering Mechanism
Ackerman system was developed by a German Engineer named Lankensperger in 1817. Rudolf
Ackerman was the lawyer who secured the patent, hence the name Ackerman. In Ackerman system the
inner wheel turns more than the outer wheel to effectively steer the vehicle without any slip. With
perfect Ackermann steering, at any angle of steering, the center point of all the circles traced by all
four wheels should be a common point. Modern cars do not use complete Ackermann steering because
it ignores the important dynamic and compliant effects.
2.1.2 King pin Inclination

vehicle is known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rear wheel steering was also tried and developed but due to the tendency of the vehicle to move
sideways from rear lead to its failure. Four wheel steering on the other hand is still under
development. From 1987 when Honda developed first four wheel steering, it was accepted and widely
used but due to skeptical tendency and behavior of customers it was not widely accepted, despite of
being a great steering system. From 2010, BMW, Porsche and Honda are developing this steering
system purely for getting better handling with the premium cars they offer, this has yet again
reinvented interest in four wheel steering in automobile makers.
2.3 Theory and Facts about Four Wheel Steering System
This section will discuss about the choices we made in developing this steering system and the theory
behind it, for selecting a specific system or mechanism. It will also help reader to get a better
understanding of why a system was selected or made. As the name suggest two vs four, we can have
an idea that the traction provided by four wheels will always be greater than the traction provided by
two wheels during giving direction to car.
The whole idea was to improve, enhance safety and comfort with developing this four wheel steering

New Business Model Of College Students
College students who have to have certain kind of software for school often find themselves in a
predicament when they cannot afford software that they need for a class whether it be for an English
major or Graphics Design major. Students are facing a new business model where companies like
adobe and Microsoft Office are making their software into a monthly payment instead of a one time
pay for the software. Software companies should not have their software on a monthly payment for
students because low budgets, users rent not own, and is it worth it.
In general college students are broke, students are doing good to buy ramen noodles for themselves.
How could they pay over $50 a month for something like Adobe Creative Cloud, $30 a month for
Grammarly, or $75 a year for Microsoft Office? The C Net report talks about how software and web

Positive Benefits Of Homeschooling
In the modern world that we live in today, education is considered paramount. Although in the United
States our education level is not nearly at the rank wed like, we still place a great emphasis on
programs to shape the youth of tomorrow. There is, however, one organization for education that is not
fueled by government spending homeschool. Homeschooling is a practice that is looked upon from the
outside as alien simply for being different, and the stereotypical view that many hold of it is false. In
fact, because of a lack of bad influences, the addition positive social effects, and outstanding academic
performance, the case can be made that homeschooling is more beneficial than public schooling to
students. The way that every child is started in homeschooling at a young age is because of their
parents. In a survey of why parents decide to enter their children into homeschooling, 85.4 responded
that it is because of a concern about the environment of other schools (Dumas 8). Things like drugs
and alcohol are all accessible easily in public school from various vendors trying to get children
hooked at young ages. By taking out the medium through which they transport their product, parents
are removing their children from harms way. Another bad influence to children in public school is
conformity. Noteworthy researcher Tanya Dumas writes that one of the primary benefits of
homeschooling is the ability to tailor the education to the needs of each student and to work one on

Sympathizing with Brutus of William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare is an interesting and complex play based on historical events
that took place in Rome in 44 BC. The plot revolves around the assassination of Julius Caesar by his
closest friend Marcus Brutus, and Marc Antony s attempt to avenge his death. The play portrays many
important themes that are still relevant in today s society like the struggle for political power; love and
friendship; the fallibility of men; and the fickleness of common people.
Despite the title of the play, Brutus is the main character, and the most important in the group of
conspirators that murder Julius Caesar.

However, one might argue that that foretelling Caesar to be a tyrant is deeply flawed and wrong. How
can Brutus be so sure that Caesar will become a tyrant? There is no way that Brutus can be one
hundred percent sure. One would say Brutus argument is very weak and there was insufficient
evidence pointing to any form of tyrannical behaviour from Caesar thus the killing of Caesar
completely unjustified.
Brutus is a considerate and honourable man because of his patriotism towards Rome and their people.
Throughout the whole play, his intentions are for the goodness of Rome …if then that friend demand
why Brutus rose against Caesar, this is my answer not that I loved Caesar less but that I loved Rome
more. He killed Caesar because of his concerns for Rome, and everything that he did was for the

This was the noblest Roman of them all; all the conspirators save only he did that they did in envy of
great Caesar; he, only, in a general honest thought and common good to all... Anthony is basically

For this reason, they ask them the questionnaire about their lifestyle.
Results: The control group had a mean telomere length of 6140.43±175.67 base pairs while the
experimental group had a mean length of 5171.74±145.39 base pairs. Therefore, the null hypothesis is
rejected. However, the questionnaire given to both groups revealed other significant differences. The
schizophrenics had less education and less routine exercise; they had more medical conditions,
smoked more and more likely to live alone; and overwhelming majorities of them were unemployed,
single, and received welfare. Yet there was not a difference in BMI and alcohol consumption.
Conclusions: There is a difference in telomere length between those with and without schizophrenia.
Despite the other differences, they concluded that those would have no or negligible effects on
telomere length.
Justification: They got the data and they got the math. I learned about standard error of the mean in
PDBIO. There is no overlap between the control and experimental means plus or minus the SEMs.
There s about a 1000 base pair difference when with SEMs of only 145 and 175 base pairs. Ultimately,
the scientists got what they tested for. What could potentially discredit these numbers is the major
differences between the groups. The ones they have given in the data are significant, but do not effect
telomere size. However, they mention that there were a

Steps For More Effective Pay For Performance
Five Steps to More Effective Pay for Performance
It?s hard to pick up a newspaper without reading about another major employer who has decided to
abandon the use of performance ratings altogether. In a recent survey of North American employers
conducted by Willis Towers Watson, 8%, have eliminated ratings entirely while another 29% are either
planning or considering such a move.
North American organizations are restless for change. Seventy three percent report that they are
planning to make some kind of change to their performance management approach. Nearly one third
of organizations report they have already changed or plan to broaden the focus of performance
management to include other aspects of performance, such as future potential, leaving compensation
practitioners wondering if we are ?paying? for a performance definition that is outdated.
The ?pay for performance? story is no different. Eighty percent of employers give the two most
popular pay for performance vehicles, merit pay and annual incentives, low marks for effectiveness.
The majority indicate that true pay for performance differentiation is not materializing in the most
purposeful pay for performance program of all: annual incentives.
While organizations are rethinking their performance management approach, it may also be time to
rethink and modernize pay for performance. Here are some ?health check? steps to follow.

examples of his determination are Law schools being explicit to whites only. Stating his only way of

The Trials From World War II, South Africa
No one possesses a magic wand which the architects of the new dispensation could wave and, Hey
presto! things will be transformed overnight into a promised land flowing with milk and honey (Tutu
3). After the apartheid, South Africa needed a way to reconcile the wrong that had taken place
throughout the country. Instead of modeling the Nuremberg Trials from World War II, South Africa
implemented Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRC). This process guarantees pardon for any
confess crime associated with a political objective (Ruden 2). Desmond Tutu, the archbishop of the
Anglican Church in South Africa, praises and advocates the TRC; whereas, Sarah Ruden, an American
living in South Africa, criticizes the RTC process based on two main objective points. Ruden sees the
RTC process as not enforcing the laws as well as not giving victims enough reparations. While Ruden
does present logistical evidence in her negative assessment of the TRC process, Tutu presents a more
convincing assessment of the TRC process since he disputes using a trial system, while also
explaining why economically and socially the TRC process was a successful solution to the post
apartheid society in South Africa.
Initially, Tutu begins his assessment by effectively dismantling the idea that putting perpetrators from
the apartheid area on trial would have been a viable solution. Tutu theorizes that the security forces of
the apartheid regime would not have supported the negotiated

David Wesley s Five Healthy Patterns
The argument/thesis/main idea of the book David Wesley s main idea is a set of best practices, or what
he terms healthy patterns, in congregational mission partnerships. Wesley observes that in the
emerging third way of missions that began at the end of the 20th century and is coming into its own in
the early 21st century is focusing on congregational partnerships. As such, Wesley seeks to lay out
common patterns for healthy global partnerships observed in these congregational partnerships.
Consequently, Wesley presents five healthy patterns around which common mission can flourish.

relationship model that describes a synthesis of the donor and recipient into something greater than the
sum of its parts. This is the pinnacle of congregational partnerships where reciprocity becomes the
very nature of the relationship and challenges the approaches traditionally taken by denominations and

The Council For Accreditation Of Counseling And Related...
Abstract In 1981, the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs was
established (CACREP, 2016b). Before its official establishment it went through challenges. These
challenges were for CACREP to be an accrediting agency for masters and doctoral level programs and
establishing a Commission on Standards Implementation (Sweeney, 1992). CACREP has six
standards for which current and future accreditation programs must follow (CACREP, 2016c). The
purpose of these standards are to have are able to define counseling and distinguish themselves from
other behavioral health fields. Students and programs receive benefits from CACREP accreditation.
Students who attend a CACREP accredited program received the benefit of being taught by faculty
members with a counseling degree from a CACREP accredited program, core courses for the
counseling profession, and later become faculty member in a CACREP accredited program (CACREP,
2016d, 2016e). Also, programs receive the benefit of institutional support, faculty members with one
set responsibility, and continuous evaluation (CACREP, 2016d, 2016g). Since CACREP creation, it
has overcome many challenges. Now with a changing society, CACREP must move towards licensure
portability and unified counseling profession. CACREP: A Review CACREP is the Council for

Stigma In The City Of Elizabeth (1963)
Goffman (1963) describes stigma as an attribute that is deeply discrediting proposing the idea that a
stigmatized person is reduced from a whole and usual person to a tainted, discounted one (Goffman.
E, p. 3, 1963). Goffman (1963) viewed stigma as a difference between virtual social identity (how
society characterizes an individual) and actual social identity (the true characteristics of the individual)
(p.2). This was the fate of anyone born in or near the City of Elizabeth from 1980 onwards. According
to Goffman s (1963) theory, the people of Elizabeth were given a virtual social identity of drug users,
welfare recipients, alcoholics and criminals. This isn t to say that there were none these issues around
the area. However, the stigma refers to the notion that every resident of the Elizabeth displayed those
characteristics, purely by the fact that they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jones (1984) uses the term mark to describe how a deviant condition identified by a society defines an
individual as flawed or tainted. In this case, living in or around Elizabeth marked an individual as
flawed or tainted (Jones, p.2, 1984). Bourdieu (1979) concept of symbolic power reveals function of
the stigmatisation of Elizabeth. Symbolic Power refers to the power held over a society through means
of a social hierarchy (Bourdieu, p.80, 1979). How this social hierarchy is created is through economic
and social cultural capital. Individuals high in social cultural capital and/or economic capital had
power over those with low capital (Bourdieu, p.81, 1979). How stigma functions in Bourdieu s theory
is that the people of Elizabeth were viewed as those low in capital. Living in Elizabeth signified low
economic capital. However, through stigmatization,

to be immoral or unethical then how are we supposed to defend ourselves if we are attacked. We pay

The Second Treatise Of Government By Locke
One of Locke s most influential writings was his Second Treatise of Government . In this essay, Locke
discusses his ideal version of government, in which a social contract is exchanged between the
subjects and the government in power. In discussing this social contract, Locke provides a distinction
between express consent and tacit consent. In our discussion today, much of our time will be spent
discussing tacit consent. For our purposes, we will define tacit consent as a nonverbal, implied,
voluntary act of permission or agreement. In Locke s Second Treatise of Government , he asserts that
all individuals are equal and independent, so thus no one is superior over another. In governments
though, there is a fundamental hierarchical nature in which there are leaders, who are superior, than
say, the subjects. In order to fix this problem, Locke introduces the concept of Tacit Consent. Locke
sums up tacit consent by saying And to this I say, that every man, that hath any possessions, or
enjoyment, of any part of the dominions of any government, cloth thereby give his tacit consent, and
is as far forth obliged to obedience to the laws of that government, during such enjoyment, as any one
under it; Basically, if an individual is benefitting from resources given to them by the government,
then they have tacitly consented to also accept the burdens of that government and follow the laws set
forth by that government. So, have we as a nation, provided tacit consent to the US

  • 2. Evaluating Kodak s Corporate Strategy Background Eastman Kodak Company, headquartered in Rochester New York, was founded in 1889. The corporation, now multinational and focusing on imaging and photographic equipment, posted revenues in excess of $6 billion in 2011. During most of the 20th century Kodak was dominant in the photographic film industry in 1976 it held 90% of the market but began a downward slide once the Internet, digital cameras and computer processing grew. By 2007, Kodak ceased making a profit and in January 2012 filed for bankruptcy protection and ceased making cameras, video cameras and began to focus on the corporate digital imaging market (De La Merced, 2012). In evaluating Kodak s corporate strategy from the mid 1980s onward, we find that there four major management paradigms in place during this transitional period: Grade CEO Period Overview D Whitmore/Chandler 1983 1993 Tremendous rivalry with Fuji film; recognized the threat of digital and tried to diversify, but slow on the strategic and tactical implementation. D Fischer 1993 1997 Filed protests with US Commerce Department about Fair trade; Fisher reaches out to Microsoft and Apple; small implementations in digital strategy and executives could not believe it would seriously impact their business. C Fisher 1998 2000 Competition heats up, sales decline, Sony and others move into digital, Kodak panics and thinks it can slow competitive pressures through aggressive marketing. • 3. St Gall Analysis Introduction The monastery plan of St. Gall is a document that uniquely captures an early medieval nature not only in its architecture but also in its life forms. This plan is one of the most remarkable visualizations of a building complex produced during the early ninth century. It provides direct insight into the organization of the medieval monastery. Making of Plan / Physical Descriptions The plan of St. Gall provides an overall snapshot of an institution of about forty buildings inhabited by about 110 monks, with an equal number of laypeople who served as support staff. The plan was drawn on parchment 30.5 inch x 44 inch sewn together from five separate pieces. The building name /purpose is written in Latin using dark brown ink. The designer of this plan also has a dedicatory legend indicated to the top margin above the cemetery/orchard. The plan of St. Gall includes a church, scriptorium lodging for visiting monks, a monastic dormitory, refectory, school, kitchen, bake and brew house, guest house, abbot s residence, an infirmary, numerous fields and industrial out buildings; along with fences, walls, gardens, orchids and roads. The plan of St. Gall is referred as a replication of an original prototype. This orchestration was not concretely designed for a particular site. According to Prof. Mark Jarzombek s article, The Medieval Monastery: The Plan of St. Gall, It is an ideal plan incorporating the monastic reforms promulgated at the synods held at Louis the ... • 4. Lumbar Pain Case Studies REASON CHIEF COMPLAINT: Cervical and lumbar pain. HISTORY The patient is a 62 year old male with a long history of cervical and lumbar pain secondary to degenerative disk disease and spondylosis. He also is noted to have multiple other problems including a fairly severe left rotator cuff arthropathy which does require surgery on the left. It is important to note that this is important because the patient has been wheelchair bound since 2013 and now has difficulty with ambulation. He also has a history of prior cervical decompression in the remote past at C3 4. The patient complains of both cervical and lower extremity pain as well as radiating symptoms in the left upper extremity all the way down into the level of the hand. He denies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both in the cervical and lumbar region. In terms of conservative management, the patient may benefit from the addition of an SNRI and either gabapentin or pregabalin. He could also benefit from a tricyclic. I did discuss all of these with the patient and he is fairly adverse to the use of any of these types of medications because of feelings that it will affect his liver. At the same time, he is currently on methadone which he states does not seem to help him as much as morphine has in the past. A switch to extended release morphine sulfate could be performed and would help in terms of not only his neuropathic pain, but also his nociceptive pain. In terms of injection therapy, I did discuss both cervical and lumbar injection therapy with the patient. I went through with him the indications, risks, benefits, alternatives of care, likely outcome, possible complications, including but not limited to the risk of bleeding, infection, nerve injury, spinal cord injury that could be associated with injection therapy. Furthermore, because of the fact that he is a diabetic, he would be at increased risk with regards to hyperglycemia after the injection and also at increased risk for infection in general. At the same time, I did review with him the rare but catastrophic adverse events including blindness, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Autosomal Dominant Autosomal Recessive Disorder 1. Autosomal dominant genes are modified copies of the gene in a given cell. This is enough for someone to become affected by an autosomal dominant disorder. The person that inherits the given disorder would do so from a parent that is also affected by the same gene. Some disorders that fit into this classification are Huntingtons disease and Marfan syndrome. When a person is affected by an autosomal recessive disorder, both copies will be mutated in these genes. When a person has been diagnoses with an autosomal recessive disorder, the parents will each be a carrier of one copy of each mutated gene, however, they will typically not display any signs of symptoms of having this condition. Autosomal recessive disorders are not necessarily passed down to each and every generation, but can also skip generations as it transforms. Some well known diseases that are autosomal recessive are cystic fibrosis, as well as sickle cell anemia. X linked dominant disorders are produced by changes of the X chromosome on the gene. Females have two X chromosomes. A mutation in one of the two copies of the gene of each cell is enough to cause a disorder. Males only have one X chromosome, so metamorphosis in only one copy of the gene from each cell is a foundation for the disorder as well. Males can also not pass the gene on to another male, such as their son. It is also not uncommon for males to experience more severe symptoms or reactions of the disorder than that of a female. An example ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Summary Of Tipping Point In this chapter of Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, he talks about rumors, sneakers and the power of translation. Throughout the chapter he kept with the theme of change and the way that things can change over time. The concept of change and shoes throughout this chapter is evident. Gladwell writes, They expanded their focus to include not just skateboarding but also surfing, snowboarding, mountain biking, and bicycle racing, sponsoring riders in all of those sports and making Arwalk synonymous with active, alternative lifestyle ( Gladwell 194). Many people ask why do they have to produce so much more to compliment everyone in every sport or just for everyday wear? Also, I had come up with creative ways like making cards and making bracelets that went out to cheer people up when they were sad or it went towards a good cause that helped people to gain a better life. I used similar things when I was doing my project and they worked to the fullest. This connects to Tipping point in this passage, Different ideas would pop up in different parts of the country, then sometimes move east to west or sometimes west to east (Gladwell 209). This connects to my project because it s true I get ideas for my project in weird situations. For example, I got an idea when I was watching tv one day and it was the commercial for the ASPCA made me want to help and make a difference by donating pet supplies to a shelter to help them get better and hopefully find new and loving families and have a better life than what they ... • 7. Leadership Styles During The Workplace Different leadership styles result in various results in the workplace. The Fiedler contingency model postulates a leader s style is static; however, God can transform anyone s heart and thus their leadership style. Additionally, the grapevine can be an important tool for employers. As long as each individual chooses to use gossip for honorable purposes, God will bless the workplace. ORIGINAL POST 3 Forum Post 3 Original Post Approaches to Leadership There are many different ways in which individuals lead. Whether implicit or by choice, the style and the way it is applied can lead to success or failure in the workplace. My boss and I approach leadership in completely different ways. While my boss leans toward only a transactional style, specifically Laissez faire, or management by exception, I prefer a combination of transactional and translational styles. According to Robbins and Judge (2012), Laissez faire is the most passive and therefore least effective of leader behaviors (Robbins Judge, 2012, p. 382). Additionally, management by exception is somewhat better, however it remains one of the weakest leadership styles. Leaders using this style fail to be engaged with the employees unless and until there is an issue requiring their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Why Cats Are Better Than Dogs Have you ever been bitten by a dog or scratched by a cat? I have before and I would take a scratch before another dog bite any day. And thats why I m telling you these reason why cats are better pets than dogs. Many families become interested in a family pet. For a new family with kids an animal that takes up a lot of time wouldn t be ideal. Dogs are that kind of pet, they take up a lot of time and need a lot of care. Cats on the other hand are very independent and can do most things on there own. Cats can be left alone for long periods of time. So for example say you were on vacation and you can t bring any animals. A cat would be an easy animal to kiss and say goodbye to but a dog has many responsibilities and can t be left alone. • 11. Similarities Between Homo Habilis, Homo Rudolfensis, And... For a long time, it had been assumed that evolution happened in a systematic manner and that no two or more species of human ancestors existed at the same time. Because of such an assumption, it has become very hard to determine the exact ancestors when two populations dated to the same geographical location and time. In this essay, I will discuss the difference between the Homo Habilis, Homo Rudolfensis, and the Paranthropus Boisei in order to show why I believe the Homo habilis is our direct ancestor despite the three populations having existed within the same region and time span. The fossils of Home habilis species were discovered by Dr Louis Leakey in Tanzania. Among the distinguishing characteristics include the increased cranial size as compared to its ancestor, the africanus. The fossil also indicated an increased grip hand size due to size and type of hand bones. The other feature is that the fossil indicated a reduced size of the teeth. The evidence showed that the ancestor had molars longer instead of wider. As a result of the increased grip, it was concluded that this human ancestor used tools for survival. Homo habilis means the handy man because the scientists thought the species to be the first to make tools (Denis, 2008). Due to the features of their teeth type, these species are thought to have been consumers of softer food and than their ancestors. • 12. Theories Of Acquiring Language Acquiring language is one of the most important processes in human life. Unlike animals, human beings are able to acquire a native language and they do so in a procedure that takes time. During this procedure, human beings start to learn alphabet, forming words, forming sentences and after all they learn how to communicate with other people. In his book A Dictionary of Phonetics and Linguistics (2008), David Crystal mentions that this acquisition procedure is not only required for one s mother tongue, but it is also used when children come to learn a foreign language or a second language. This definition that Crystal gives in his book has a relationship with the theory of Language Acquisition Device made by Noam Chomsky. Noam Chomsky believes that every single child has in his brain a language acquisition device . Chomsky suspects that every single born child has this mechanism in his brain that helps him acquire the language, which is spoken in his environment. He believes that this is something biological and this helps the child s brain to form the main principles of his language such as grammar. Chomsky notices that after children acquire this knowledge about grammar, they have to learn vocabulary so they begin to form sentences. Homeschooling is a practice that is looked upon from the outside as alien simply for being different, and the stereotypical view that many hold of it is false. Despite the title of the play, Brutus is the main character, and the most important in the group of conspirators that murder Julius Caesar. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, one might argue that that foretelling Caesar to be a tyrant is deeply flawed and wrong. How can Brutus be so sure that Caesar will become a tyrant? There is no way that Brutus can be one hundred percent sure. One would say Brutus argument is very weak and there was insufficient evidence pointing to any form of tyrannical behaviour from Caesar thus the killing of Caesar completely unjustified. Brutus is a considerate and honourable man because of his patriotism towards Rome and their people. Throughout the whole play, his intentions are for the goodness of Rome …if then that friend demand why Brutus rose against Caesar, this is my answer not that I loved Caesar less but that I loved Rome more. He killed Caesar because of his concerns for Rome, and everything that he did was for the benefit of someone else. Even Marc Antony still recognised Brutus as the noblest Roman of them all. After his death he says This was the noblest Roman of them all; all the conspirators save only he did that they did in envy of great Caesar; he, only, in a general honest thought and common good to all... For this reason, they ask them the questionnaire about their lifestyle. Results: The control group had a mean telomere length of 6140.43±175.67 base pairs while the experimental group had a mean length of 5171.74±145.39 base pairs. Therefore, the null hypothesis is rejected. However, the questionnaire given to both groups revealed other significant differences. The schizophrenics had less education and less routine exercise; they had more medical conditions, smoked more and more likely to live alone; and overwhelming majorities of them were unemployed, single, and received welfare. Yet there was not a difference in BMI and alcohol consumption. Conclusions: There is a difference in telomere length between those with and without schizophrenia. Despite the other differences, they concluded that those would have no or negligible effects on telomere length. Justification: They got the data and they got the math. I learned about standard error of the mean in PDBIO. There is no overlap between the control and experimental means plus or minus the SEMs. There s about a 1000 base pair difference when with SEMs of only 145 and 175 base pairs. Ultimately, the scientists got what they tested for. What could potentially discredit these numbers is the major differences between the groups. The ones they have given in the data are significant, but do not effect telomere size. However, they mention that there were a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Steps For More Effective Pay For Performance Five Steps to More Effective Pay for Performance It?s hard to pick up a newspaper without reading about another major employer who has decided to abandon the use of performance ratings altogether. In a recent survey of North American employers conducted by Willis Towers Watson, 8%, have eliminated ratings entirely while another 29% are either planning or considering such a move. North American organizations are restless for change. Seventy three percent report that they are planning to make some kind of change to their performance management approach. Nearly one third of organizations report they have already changed or plan to broaden the focus of performance management to include other aspects of performance, such as future potential, leaving compensation practitioners wondering if we are ?paying? for a performance definition that is outdated. The ?pay for performance? story is no different. Eighty percent of employers give the two most popular pay for performance vehicles, merit pay and annual incentives, low marks for effectiveness. The majority indicate that true pay for performance differentiation is not materializing in the most purposeful pay for performance program of all: annual incentives. The Secret Life Of Bees Theme Essay In the book called The Secret Life of Bee s written by Sue Monk Kidd there are characters such as Lily, Rosaline, T.Ray, Deborah, August, May, Zach, etc. From the list of characters stated one that I admire the most and seem to have a lot in common in is Zach. I admire him due to his determination, his want to be a lawyer, and especially due to the fact that he plays football. Well Zachery Taylor (His full name) is as determined as they come. Living in a world full of Racist white men with white privilege breathing down his neck. Zach will just keep on churning through everything. Small examples of his determination are Law schools being explicit to whites only. Stating his only way of being educated is unavailable. Some ways he tries to overcome this is communicating with Clayton Forrest (Lawyer). He ends up learning off Clayton to learn tips and tricks. He uses it as an alternative to school. Falling in love with Lily also shows another hump in his life that he overcomes with determination. Knowing it s a white man s world and being caught with Lily will be a serious crime due to the time. So for that he keeps it lowkey. Everything seems to go good for Zach until he is ... • 32. The Trials From World War II, South Africa No one possesses a magic wand which the architects of the new dispensation could wave and, Hey presto! things will be transformed overnight into a promised land flowing with milk and honey (Tutu 3). After the apartheid, South Africa needed a way to reconcile the wrong that had taken place throughout the country. Instead of modeling the Nuremberg Trials from World War II, South Africa implemented Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRC). This process guarantees pardon for any confess crime associated with a political objective (Ruden 2). Desmond Tutu, the archbishop of the Anglican Church in South Africa, praises and advocates the TRC; whereas, Sarah Ruden, an American living in South Africa, criticizes the RTC process based on two main objective points. Ruden sees the RTC process as not enforcing the laws as well as not giving victims enough reparations. While Ruden does present logistical evidence in her negative assessment of the TRC process, Tutu presents a more convincing assessment of the TRC process since he disputes using a trial system, while also explaining why economically and socially the TRC process was a successful solution to the post apartheid society in South Africa. Initially, Tutu begins his assessment by effectively dismantling the idea that putting perpetrators from the apartheid area on trial would have been a viable solution. Tutu theorizes that the security forces of the apartheid regime would not have supported the negotiated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. The Council For Accreditation Of Counseling And Related... Abstract In 1981, the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs was established (CACREP, 2016b). Before its official establishment it went through challenges. These challenges were for CACREP to be an accrediting agency for masters and doctoral level programs and establishing a Commission on Standards Implementation (Sweeney, 1992). CACREP has six standards for which current and future accreditation programs must follow (CACREP, 2016c). The purpose of these standards are to have are able to define counseling and distinguish themselves from other behavioral health fields. Students and programs receive benefits from CACREP accreditation. Students who attend a CACREP accredited program received the benefit of being taught by faculty members with a counseling degree from a CACREP accredited program, core courses for the counseling profession, and later become faculty member in a CACREP accredited program (CACREP, 2016d, 2016e). Also, programs receive the benefit of institutional support, faculty members with one set responsibility, and continuous evaluation (CACREP, 2016d, 2016g). Since CACREP creation, it has overcome many challenges. Now with a changing society, CACREP must move towards licensure portability and unified counseling profession. Bottled water was also analyzed by the calibration curve, but the results were flawed as the concentration of fluoride did not fall in the range of the calibration curve. Mouthwash was first analyzed by a calibration curve, which was determined to have a fluoride concentration + standard deviation of 194.5 + 34.9 ppm. Analyzing mouthwash with standard addition resulted in the concentration being 91.9 ppm. • 36. Stigma In The City Of Elizabeth (1963) Goffman (1963) describes stigma as an attribute that is deeply discrediting proposing the idea that a stigmatized person is reduced from a whole and usual person to a tainted, discounted one (Goffman. E, p. 3, 1963). Goffman (1963) viewed stigma as a difference between virtual social identity (how society characterizes an individual) and actual social identity (the true characteristics of the individual) (p.2). This was the fate of anyone born in or near the City of Elizabeth from 1980 onwards. According to Goffman s (1963) theory, the people of Elizabeth were given a virtual social identity of drug users, welfare recipients, alcoholics and criminals. This isn t to say that there were none these issues around the area. However, the stigma refers to the notion that every resident of the Elizabeth displayed those characteristics, purely by the fact that they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jones (1984) uses the term mark to describe how a deviant condition identified by a society defines an individual as flawed or tainted. In this case, living in or around Elizabeth marked an individual as flawed or tainted (Jones, p.2, 1984). Bourdieu (1979) concept of symbolic power reveals function of the stigmatisation of Elizabeth. Symbolic Power refers to the power held over a society through means of a social hierarchy (Bourdieu, p.80, 1979). How this social hierarchy is created is through economic and social cultural capital. Individuals high in social cultural capital and/or economic capital had power over those with low capital (Bourdieu, p.81, 1979). How stigma functions in Bourdieu s theory is that the people of Elizabeth were viewed as those low in capital. Living in Elizabeth signified low economic capital. However, through stigmatization, ... This happens to be my favorite quote as it shows that we aren t always expected to follow the rules, and in that it is acceptable to be immoral or unethical at some times. In some instances it is even necessary to be immoral or unethical such as when you are being attacked and we all make mistakes. If we are unable to be immoral or unethical then how are we supposed to defend ourselves if we are attacked. • 38. The Second Treatise Of Government By Locke One of Locke s most influential writings was his Second Treatise of Government . In this essay, Locke discusses his ideal version of government, in which a social contract is exchanged between the subjects and the government in power. In discussing this social contract, Locke provides a distinction between express consent and tacit consent. In our discussion today, much of our time will be spent discussing tacit consent. For our purposes, we will define tacit consent as a nonverbal, implied, voluntary act of permission or agreement. In Locke s Second Treatise of Government , he asserts that all individuals are equal and independent, so thus no one is superior over another. In governments though, there is a fundamental hierarchical nature in which there are leaders, who are superior, than say, the subjects. In order to fix this problem, Locke introduces the concept of Tacit Consent. Locke sums up tacit consent by saying And to this I say, that every man, that hath any possessions, or enjoyment, of any part of the dominions of any government, cloth thereby give his tacit consent, and is as far forth obliged to obedience to the laws of that government, during such enjoyment, as any one under it; Basically, if an individual is benefitting from resources given to them by the government, then they have tacitly consented to also accept the burdens of that government and follow the laws set forth by that government.
