Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
Never Let Me Go is about a thirty one year old woman named Kathy H. Kathy is a carer for donors
and she travels from care center to care center. She talks about her childhood at Hailsham and her
childhood friends, mostly Ruth and Tommy, and the adventures she experienced. At the end of the
book, we learn that Kathy lives in a world where her schoolmates and her are clones that are made for
donating organs until they die or complete. They accept this fate without questioning it. Never Let Me
Go takes place in England during the later 1990s. The clones spend the first 16 years of their life in
Hailsham. They learn everything they need to know like English, science, music, history and math.
However, they never mention Hailsham s address or what city the school is located in. The school is a
hidden gem and Kathy says Driving around the country now, I still see things that will remind me of
Hailsham. I might pass the corner of a misty field, or see part of a large house in the distance as I
come down the side of a valley, even a particular arrangement of poplar trees up on a hillside. Then I
see it s impossible and I go on driving, my thoughts drifting on elsewhere. Kathy could never find
Hailsham. There were many majors events in Never Let Me Go. One major event in Never Let Me Go
is when Madam came to visit Hailsham. The children would create something like a poem, story, or
painting and Madame would collect the item and put into the gallery if it was good enough.

Research Paper On Angels In America
...to have and to hold, from this day forwards, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness
and in health, until death do us part. These are the standard wedding vows and though, they are a
married couple, these vows still play a role in any serious relationship. It is the promise of two people
that they will be there, no matter what happens. However, things happen and, suddenly, that promise
turns into a broken agreement. For instance, in the play Angels in America written by Tony Kushner,
the character Louis leaves Prior because he has a terminal illness: AIDS. Therefore, their vow breaks
the stable relationship. While the illness can break a vow, it can form one. In the musical movie
version of Rent directed by Chris Columbus,

Global Overpopulation And Its Effects On The Population
Global Overpopulation Controllable Or Inevitable Global overpopulation is an extremely broad topic
that represents exactly what one would think, the overpopulation of the entire globe. Though global
overpopulation is broad topic, there are many key factors that aid in the increasing total population.
Some factors are more effective than others, but the most altering factor is the percentage of fertility.
The direct connection between reducing the population is through pregnancy rates. There are multiple
ways that a women s pregnancy rate could be significantly reduced, by the use of birth control. In the
articles, Global Overpopulaton by Hobart Rowen and When Birth Control Isn t for Birth Control by
Karen Klein and How to Make Birth Control More Effective. by Danielle Braff, these are great
examples of how utilizing birth control will aid in the control of maintaining and reducing the growing
population rates. Including the possible results, if a solution is not discovered and the population
numbers continue to grow.
Human nature being what it is, most people tend to focus mainly on short term goals of enriching
themselves and experiencing pleasure rather than safeguarding the environment over the long term
(Kuo). This is a very enlightening quote, it states what many believe, but not willing to speak out and
support. In the article, Global Overpopulation includes numerous examples of rhetoric; the first
rhetorical element presented is ethos, which is the

The Day The Earth Stood Still And Close Encounters Of The...
When you first mention science fiction people s thoughts most likely go to books and films like Star
Wars, Hunger Games, I, Robot, and Avatar, stories we don t always think of as educational . The
future, aliens, space adventures, human like robots, etc. we tend to think of these as silly ideas and
fantasies. But, the world of science fiction teaches us a lot about human nature; our flaws, pitfalls, and
irrationalities.
The flaws of our nature are demonstrated in A.I. a film based off the Supertoys stories. In this series
we read/watched in class, a robot child made to stimulate love for parents without children. This
artificial intelligence human robot does no wrong, loves unconditionally and always listens to their
parent. Yet, it is difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Day the Earth Stood Still and Close Encounters of the Third Kind are such stories. In these stories
shows our human nature in the fact of we are afraid of the unknown. For example, in The Day the
Earth Stood Still we re afraid of the alien and threaten him with military forces throughout the whole
rest of the film. Even when we discover he is only here to warn and save us. Close Encounters of the
Third Kind is different in the fact that we do not threaten the alien visitors we wonder and welcome
them if we wish. It was frightening to the characters but was the right thing to do in the situation. The
irrationality in this film is shown not by the military forces but by the way Ronnie is unsupportive of
Roy. Despites the fact it would be difficult to see your spouse obsessed with one thing and distant to
your family, she should ve realized, stuck with him and supported him through the mess. Many people
are like that in our society; only around for the good times, but when the going gets though they bail
on those around. That to me is irrational. If you re not willing to stick with someone in the good and
the bad, then why be part of their lives?
In essence, science fiction is not just fun and games of aliens, robots and the unknown, it s a teacher.
This genre educates and warns us of our destructive tendency. Science fiction teaches us about human
nature; our flaws, pitfalls, and

only until he is mobbed by a group of angry army deseters. One of the man tells santiago his dream of

follow it. At that poin Santiago realized that his treasure was where he first had his dream. You re not
going to die. You ll live, and you ll learn that a man shouldn t be so stupid. Two years ago, right here
on this spot, I had a recurrent dream, too. I dreamed that I should travel to the fields of Spain and look
for a ruined church where shepherds and their sheep slept. In my dream, there was a sycamore
growing out of the ruins of the sacristy, and I was told that, if I dug at the roots of the sycamore, I
would find a hidden treasure. But I m not so stupid as to cross an entire desert just because of a
recurrent dream. And they disappeared. The boy stood up shakily, and looked once more at the
Pyramids. They seemed to laugh at him, and he laughed back, his heart bursting with joy At this point
Santiago has realized that his journey is officially over and he has achieved his personal legend.

Ecclesiastes Research Paper
Ecclesiastes:
Ecclesiastes means the preacher , the teacher , or assembler. While the author is not identified by name
he does identify himself as the preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem (1:1); I the Preacher was
king over Israel in Jerusalem. (1:12) It is a widely held belief that Solomon wrote Ecclesiastes as well
as other wisdom literature in the bible. Scholars assume it was written during the reign of King
Solomon a little before Solomons death from 970 935 BC.
In Ecclesiastes, Solomon is looking back over a time when he was away from God and his redemption
of finding him again. He tried every pursuit under the sun he had many accomplishments, lived the

He was a prophet during the time of Jeroboam II. Jonah s defining event was being swallowed by a
whale for disobeying God by not going to Nineveh to warn them. Jonah is credited with writing the
book of his namesake where the account of the whale is told.
God called Jonah to Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city and cry aginst it; for their wickedness is come
up before me. (Jon 1:2) Jonah fled Gods calling to Tarshish. During his escape a great storm came
upon the boat that he was on. So the crew cast him into the sea where the lord had prepared a great
fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. In
Matthew 12:40 Jesus refrences this as Jonah being in a whales belly for three days. While in the belly
of the fish Jonah prayed to God to let him out. the Lord spoke unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah
upon the dry land .(Jon 2:10) Jonah then went to Ninevah and cried, and said, Yet forty days, and
Nineveh shall be overthrown. ( Jon 3:4). Ninevah repented and turned back to God and he showed
mercy. Jonah was still angry because God showed this savage nation mercy. God then explained to
Jonah that everyone needs mercy even your greatest

The Effect Of Mineral Nutrition On The Toxicity Of Metals
There is a vast amount of literature which indicates that the mineral nutrition has an important role in
the toxicity of metals (Pond and Walker, 1972, 1975; Larson and Piscator, 1971; Petering et al., 1971,
1974; 1977; Hamilton and Valberg, 1974; Doyle and Pfander, 1975; Hastings et al., 1976; Waldron
and Stofen, 1974). It is true, especially to those micronutrients which are essential such as zinc,
copper, iron with respect to toxicity of certain metals like cadmium, arsenic, lead etc. It is assumed
that the dietary intake of metals in excessive such as copper, iron and zinc will be protective against
the toxic effects of the heavy metals like lead. The deficiency of calcium and other essential elements
result in the enhanced toxicity of lead and cadmium [ref]. There had been difficulty in evaluating the
role of essential nutrients like zinc, iron, copper etc on the toxicity of heavy metals, perhaps due to
differences in the animal models choosen, the route of administration and other metabolic and
physiological differences which leads to variable results between studies.
Lead zinc relationships
Cerklewski and Forbes (1976) reported that rats when fed a diet having low levels of zinc and
containing 200 ppm of lead cause a marked increase in the lead levels of tibia and urinary 8
aminolevulinic acid (ALA). Further it has been observed that the lead levels of tibia and urinary ALA
has reduced greatly when the zinc content of the diet was raised to optimal or super optimal

Technology And Its Impact On Modern Society
In the past century, society has seen great leaps in technology that has connected people together more
than ever, it has saved lives and continues to make day to day life simply easier to navigate. However,
there are consequences to these advances. With people clamoring every year to get their hands on the
newest iteration of their electronic devices, whether it be the latest iPhone, a more advanced computer
or a high definition television society must confront the problems it has created by its own desire for
technology. As consumers purchase newer and better version of their old electronics the question of
what happens to the old ones is raised. In 2005 alone, it was estimated that Americans disposed of two
million tons of electronic products a year and that by 2010 that number would grow to four hundred
million annually (Eilperin). This rate of disposal leaves behind piles of unwanted electronic devices
and while many of these devices end up in junk drawers there are many more that end up in landfills
where their toxic metal innards contaminate drinking water and soil. Or, devices are left to go to seed
in some lonely warehouse long since abandoned by its own and there is always the possibility of
devices being exported to poor countries where recycling regulations are lacks. The scope of the
problem is not small as it is estimated that the hazard created by electronic waste threatens over one
hundred million lives worldwide (Wood). To begin to understand why

Character Analysis Of Sue Monk Kidd
Sue Monk Kidd does a great job of writing an interesting and engaging novel jam packed with an
amazing setting and lovable characters. Each character providing their own very interesting and
dynamic character arc throughout the story. Characters like Lily Owens, Zachary Taylor and June
Boatwright, experience lots of progression in both as a character or in their personality and in the
audience s feelings towards them. Characters like Rosaleen and May Boatwright that make you
sympathize for the situation that they are in or the struggles that they face. Each time May experiences
emotional distress, you can t help but feel bad for her and hope that she gets better. Whenever
Rosaleen is discriminated by police officers, you can t help but feel anger and frustration for the
wrongs of the past. With such a stellar cast of characters to choose from I would say that August
Boatwright is the character that Sue Monk Kidd makes me admire. The way Sue Monk Kidd portrays
the wise and caring character that is August is just very compelling to me. August s importance to the
plot of the novel and to the characters of the novel is very clear. August Boatwright is the moral glue
to almost every main character in the Boatwright house before and after Lily Owens and Rosaleen
arrive. Without August Boatwright, there s no one to give May the attention and care that she needs.
No other character except for maybe Lily shows any sort of patience and compassion for May like
August does.

Comparing Kenneth Branagh s And Gregory Doran
There have been many movie adaptations of Hamlet ever since adapting Shakespeare s plays into
movies became a profitable venture. Two of the more popular adaptations were Kenneth Branagh s in
1996 and Gregory Doran s in 2009. Even though they were both based on the same play, these two
movies differ greatly due to director s license. Kenneth Branagh s and Gregory Doran s adaptation of
Hamlet differ greatly in terms of the setting and how each of the main characters are portrayed. One of
the main differences in the two films is the setting, The original play is based in 1600s Denmark,
which Branagh s movie follows for the most part. His interpretation of Elsinore Castle is posh and
colorful. There is much contrast in the colors and setting of the scenes, with some being in the bright
common room of the castle, with others being in the catacombs or in the dark woods outside of the
castle. Doran s film has a more modern setting to it. The attire worn by the characters consist mainly
of suits and modern dresses, compared to the more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The portrayal of Hamlet himself contains some of the key differences between the movies. Branagh s
portrayal shows a very violent and hostile Hamlet. His insanity is depicted through his consistent
outbursts of anger and violence. His insanity is explained through his reaction to seeing his father s
ghost, so his insane ways are in a way justified. Doran s Hamlet, portrayed by David Tennant, is more
childish and tongue in cheek than Branagh s. He does not wear shoes and has random outbursts of
insanity. His madness is not clearly explained, so the audience is confused as to why he is insane, or if
he was insane this entire time. Also, Branagh sticks to the original soliloquies, while Doran cuts a few
parts here and there. For example, the famous What is a man? soliloquy, which is in its entirety in
Branagh s film, but is severely cut down in

Realism In The Alchemist
The Alchemist is one of Ben Jonson s four extraordinary comedies. The most earliest recorded
execution of the play happened in Oxford in 1610 by the King s Men. In The Alchemist, Jonson
unashamedly ridicules the imprudences, vanities and indecencies of humanity, most quite eagerness
prompted credulity. Individuals of every single social class are liable to Jonson s heartless, sarcastic
wit.
In The Alchemist the master of the house, Lovewit goes to countryside to avoid th palgue. With his
lord Lovewit gone, the sharp butler named Face builds up a plan to profit and interest himself. He puts
the plan vigorously with the assistance of a conman, Subtle, and Dol Common, a prostitute.

Ben Johnson plays with the idea of meta fiction in the whole play. Alchemy in The Alchemist is
shorthand for the figment of the theatre.
All things considered, what s a greater amount of a catalytic procedure than transforming average
citizens into sovereigns, witches, dukes, and divine beings? Or, on the other hand beet juice into
blood? Or, then again cardboard into swords and mythical serpents? Or, on the other hand modest
thwart into inestimable gems?
Since that is precisely what happens in front of an audience. We pay great cash to go see a show
knowing very well indeed that what we re going to see isn t genuine. We suspend our incredulity and
get tied up with the display that strangers are falling in love, passing on, and deceiving each other
right in front of us. We pay for a lie... and we cherish each moment of it.
How about we look again at Surly s quote about alchemy:
Alchemy is a pretty kind of game, / Somewhat like tricks o the cards, to cheat a man / With charming.

Comparison of Into My Heart and I remember I remember
Both poems are about the past and are similar in many ways, but I remember, I remember seems much
more upbeat about the past than into my heart
A.E. Housman s poem describes the lost content of a speaker who is made unhappy when he realises
the happy times he had when he was young are gone forever.
In Thomas Hood s poem the speaker is also made unhappy when he is made aware that he can never
re visit those happy times he experienced as a child. They both explain the same idea in a different
way; Into my heart makes its point in an obviously sombre way, but I remember I remember creates

far country symbolises time rather than distance. It is a memory from a long time ago that is very
different from the life that the speaker is now leading. The memories seem happy because the
symbolic landscape is rural and idyllic. This landscape has hills, farms and spires, which suggest that
the speaker once led a simple life, which is very different from the life he is now leading, and a life to
which he can never return.
I remember, I remember uses a child s perspective to represent the past: the little window where the
sun came peeping in at morn, and he thought the fir trees dark and high were close against the sky
because that is how gigantic they mu st seem, to a child who is not yet fully grown. Each stanza
focuses on a different detail of his past, but they all use the same structure, in every stanza a pleasant
memory is said, followed by how upset he is that he can never experience it again, in
Fact he is so upset that he wants to die and there are many references to death in the poem: I often
wish the night had borne my breath away! and
[The] summer pools could hardly cool the fever on my brow! are just two examples.
His memories are full of bright colours and natural imagery, the reds and whites, roses, violets and
lilies, swallows, feathers, summer pools and fresh air, all help to make the speakers memories more
vivid and fresh. The speaker s memories are

The Human Papillomavirus ( Hpv )
The Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a sexually transmitted disease (STD), is the most common
sexually transmitted disease in the United States with about 14 million cases each year. There are two
different types of HPV: low risk and high risk. According to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC), more than 90 percent and 80 percent, respectively, of sexually active men and
women will be infected with at least one type of HPV at some point in their lives. Around one half of
these infections are with a high risk HPV (CDC n.p.). High risk HPV can sometimes cause cancer;
however, there is no way of predicting which infected persons could develop cancer or other serious
health problems. The most common form of HPV, low risk, causes warts; this type of HPV goes away
on its own in most cases (CDC n.p.). A vaccination, proven to prevent against four major stands of
HPV, has recently been developed. The vaccination has led to an enormous amount of controversy
regarding whether the vaccination should be mandatory. Although the vaccine is new, it has been
proven effective in preventing HPV and numerous types of cancer caused by HPV; therefore, it should
be mandatory in order to protect today s youth from HPV. Although most HPV cases are not life
threating, many believe it is best to get the vaccination. The HPV vaccination has been proven to
prevent multiple types of cancer and other effects of the disease. It is recommended that young girls

China s Most Strapping Religion
Desha Fleureme July 10, 2015 Taoism China s most strapping religion, Taoism is an ancient tradition
of philosophy and religious beliefs that have been deeply rooted within the Chinese customs. It can
also be referred to as Daoism, which is a more accurate way of saying the Chinese word in English.
The Tao in Taoism is usually translated as the Way. Despite the unknown of what the Tao really
means, it upholds a significant importance to the universe in the warmest regards. It is very difficult to
determine the number of Taoist in the world, especially in the mainland of China where religion was
outlawed under the strict communist rule. However, it is estimated to have the range from 30 million
to 300 million followers in China alone. Many Taoist followers are located in small communities of
Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and in Southeast Asia that make up a significant portion of the 21st
century population. Nearly 2000 years ago, Taoism was created. However, the date it was founded on
is obscure. During the 4th and 3rd centuries BCE, Taoism was acknowledged by the religious system.
Amongst the first, is the Celestial Master of the first organized school of thought, Zhang Daoling. To
date, there is a current Celestial Master that lives in Taiwan, Tianshi Dao. Most Taoist ideas come
from the Chinese schools of thought. Unfortunately, there is not an accurate way to distinguish
between the ideas that are fundamentally Taoist and those that Taoism took from other religions,

The Importance Of Endovascular Devices
Navigation of blood vessels is an essential part in reaching a lesion or a vessel segment for treatment.
Such task is achieved using an endovascular device. The circulatory system being tortuous,
improvements to endovascular devices are being investigated. Here the process involved in improving
this medical field was by combining two technologies together: endovascular devices and ionic
electroactive polymers (i EAP).
Medical procedures such as angioplasty, coronary and peripheral, atherectomy, interventional
nephrology, interventional radiology, thoracic endovascular aortic repair, full biliary catheter
procedure require a skilled physician to operate an endovascular device. It is a wire or spring used as a
guide for placement of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Endovascular devices are usually constrained to specific characteristics. The five major characteristics
are size, length, stiffness, coating and tip configuration. Endovascular devices are made up of a
stainless steel coil which surrounds a tapered inner core, where the tip of the wire can be straight,
angled, or J shaped and some include a shaping ribbon allowing the physicians to adjust the tip angle
to their liking. Their diameter varies from 0.010 to 0.038 (0.254 mm to 0.9652 mm), many have a
diameter of 0.014 as it allows for an easier access to more places [1]. Endovascular devices can have
polymer covers, coils, coatings all of which will have a different effect on different properties. Coils
provide tactile feedback, radiopacity and maintain constant overall diameters and polymer
covers/sleeves provide optimal lubricity to overcome resistance and access to the lesion.
An Electroactive Polymer (EAP) is a polymer that undergoes a change in size or shape when subject
to an electric field. These are most commonly used in actuators and sensors. Ionic EAPs (i EAP)
require much lower voltages for actuation to occur, 1 5V compared to 10V/µm, and they have low
electromechanical coupling. This makes

dissimilarities between the two theories can be highlighted by looking at the Trichobatrachus robustas,
better known as the horror/hairy frog.
The horror frog is native to the West coast area of Central Africa and belongs to the family
Arthroleptidae. This frogs remarkable ability other than to grow hair on its body is to break the bones
on their hind feet and to thrust a sharp claw through their skin. The claw is settled inside a mass of
connective tissue. A chunk of collagen forms a bond between the claw s sharp point and a small piece
of bone at the tip of the frog s toe, (NewScientist, 2008). David Blackburn of Harvard s Museum of
Comparative Zoology says that claws are not coated in keratin, like all other known claws in the
vertebrae world, (Science Blogs, 2008). When the frog is threatened, they flex a muscle that connects
to the lower half of the claw. This severs the connection to a nodule and pulls the claw downward. The
claw which is made of reinforced and thickened bone, pierces the frog s own skin and through the skin
of the toe, (National Geographic, 2008). David

US Tax Policy
US Tax Policy Export Subsidies or Leveling the Playing Field?
On October 22th 2004, President Bush signed into law the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004. This
is a new tax law, which provides tax breaks for U.S. manufacturers, multinational operations, and a
host of other industries. The American Job Creation Act was designed to replace the current
Extraterritorial Income Act or ETI, which the WTO had determined was a disguised export subsidy,
and therefore, in violation of international trade rules. However, the issue is much more involved. The
WTO failed to take into consideration equally strong arguments for the U.S. s need for export tax
credits to counteract the European Union s Value Added Tax. In order to more fully ... Show more

The goods upon arriving at the destination country would not need to be taxed as they were already
taxed from the country of origin. However, the destination principle was used in determining how
indirect taxes should be handled, which meant the indirect tax could be adjusted at the border and
either rebated to the producer or waived altogether. Additionally, the indirect tax could be applied to
imports. Individual countries were permitted to decide whether to rebate the indirect taxes on exports
and/or to impose them on imports. This too would be balanced if all direct and indirect taxes were
defined the same way internationally, but this is not the case. The problem with imposing indirect
taxes on imports arises when for one country a direct tax has been mislabeled as an indirect tax. When
this occurs, countries without equivalent indirect taxes do not get a tax rebate on their exports, but
must pay the indirect tax when their goods arrive at the destination country. When the GATT made the
distinction between the two taxes, value added taxes or VATs were rarely used. Since the VAT replaced
the EU s multi stage sales tax system, the GATT classified the VAT as an indirect tax. This was a
mistake on the GATT s part as Hufbauer author of The Foreign Sales Corporation Drama: Reaching

Auster Narrative Style
American writer and director Paul Auster uses different literary devices and narrative styles to create a
new form of crime fiction, that links the traditional genre characteristics with experimental metafiction
and postmodern irony. In the New York Trilogy novels published sequentially as City of Glass (1985),
Ghosts (1986) and The Locked Room (1986), Auster uses a number of different narrative styles
including pastiche, parody and intertextuality to mix postmodernism with crime fiction. Previously,
the most important aspect in a detective story according to Encyclopedia Britannica has been: solving
the crime and answering the whodunit question ( Detective Story ). For that reason, most literature on
criminal fiction has focused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to literary criticist William G. Little: While the goal of detection is to uncover the whole
story, in Auster s work, nothing, especially not nothing, is grasped in its all. No case is closed...his
calculations and representations lead to no final illumination, no climatic discovery. (p. 133). It is
clear, that the postmodern detective fiction has a different purpose than just answering all the
questions and restore order. At the beginning of City of Glass the narrator describes that detective
Quinn s knowledge regarding crime in general, is very average: Like most people, Quinn knew almost
nothing about crime. He had never murdered anyone, had never stolen anything, and he did not know
anyone who had. He had never been inside a police station, had never met a private detective, had
never spoken to a criminal. Whatever he knew about these things, he had learned from books, films,
and newspapers. (p. 7). Therefore, Quinn as the writer of crime novels does not have any actual
information about real crime and his stories are not real, but the kind that parodies the genre on which
he lacks experience. On the use of parody M. H. Abrams says: it imitates the serious manner and
characteristic features of a particular literary work, or the distinctive style of

Questions On Barre Syndrome ( Gbs )
Guillian Barre Syndrome (GBS) is an autoimmune disease that causes an acute peripheral nervous
system disorder that results in a flaccid paralysis of the skeletal muscles and loss of muscle reflexes
(Des Jardin Burton 2016). Regardless of whose articles, journals, or textbooks you read, all agree on
the definition of GBS. Dombale and Kumar (2012) states, GBS effects 1 to 4 per 100,000. Males are
effective twice as frequently than females. However, numbers are showing the gender gap becoming
more equal. All ages are affected, however, persons fifty plus years or older are more susceptible to be
affected by GBS. Prognosis for a full recovery to a healthy life is high, and mortality is low. However,
recovery time can be long, and extremely difficult road for the patient. The cause of GBS is not clear,
nonetheless it is believed to be triggered by an acute infectious process. Infections can be viral or
bacterial infections. Such as, Campylobacter jejuni, cytomegalovirus, mononucleosis, parainfluenza 2,
measles, mumps, hepatitis A and B viruses (Des Jardin and Burton 2016). The most common
symptoms reported before onset of GBS are fever, cough, sore throat, and other upper respiratory
symptoms (Walling Dickson 2013). Turan et al (2012), case study reported an 11 yr old patient
presented with walking problems, voice hoarseness, and a sore throat. This would appear as a
respiratory infection however, the walking problem resulted in the fact the patient did indeed have

Pediatrician Discrimination And Discrimination
Pediatricians initiating their job may be unaware of the racism by the hospital staff, majorly white,
unconsciously. Patients who are minorities may experience a sense of fear of going to the hospital to
be unconsciously discriminated against and not being able to connect with someone of their race or
culture. Without this connection, patients feel timid when they are not able to communicate with
someone who is not of their race, gender or culture causing a border between the patient and the
pediatrician. Therefore, as Dossey (2015) says If Black doctors are marginalized, it is a cinch their
patients feel marginalized as well (para. 8). Meaning that not only minority pediatricians are
discriminated, but the patients as well. To forget these patients, have health care issues because their
race, culture, or socioeconomic status leads to a major healthcare disadvantage. Indeed, empathy
should accompany the pediatrician when conversing the patient s problem to create a better experience
for both. Thoughts, feelings, and behavior related to race and ethnicity play a critical role in health
care disparities (Penner, 2013, para. 1). This quote implies that it is not only the physical aspects that
might be judged but also the emotional state as well. In fact, many other factors influence the
unconscious racism to minorities patients and pediatricians such as socioeconomic status, [and]
language proficiency [...etc.] (Penner, 2013, pg. 4). Equally important it is to say the

Seneca Falls The First Women s Rights Convention
Seneca Falls was the first women s rights convention in the United States. The convention took place
at the Wesleyan Chapel in Seneca Falls, NY, on July 19, 1848 (Seneca Falls Convention Begins). This
convention was organized by two abolitionist named Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton with
the help of Martha Wright, Mary Ann McClintock, and Jane Hunt. They posted the announcement in
the Seneca County Courier on July 14, 1848. The message said A Convention to discuss the social,
civil, and religious conditions and rights of women will be held... (American Memory). The Seneca
Falls community was open to the idea of changing public roles of women in society. So it was no
surprise when about 300 people responded to the message in the courier. The convention took place
for two days, Wednesday July 19, 1848 and Thursday July 20, 1989. During the two day period the
participants listened to multiple speeches, wrote the Declaration of Sentiments, created 11 resolutions
that proclaimed equality of all people and declared all laws/customs that subordinated women
illegitimate. The first day of the convention was exclusive to women only. Elizabeth Cady Stanton
introduced the Declaration of Sentiments. The Declaration of Sentiments was a document that was
similar to the Declaration of Independence written by Stanton, it included a list of eighteen grievances
women faced and eleven resolutions. During the first day the women read and revised the Declaration
of Sentiments. One of

The Future Of Homelessness In Canada
This article (originally a speech) talks about how homelessness has been an issue in Canada in the past
but is also an issue Canada faces today and how the future of homelessness in its society depends on
the actions taken today. Specific information given in the article includes going back as far as 1960
with specific examples of how the Canadian government has been dealing with the issue through the
ages. Giving direct quotes from government documents and speeches to statistics, it is divided to into
three main categories: past, present, and future (and further going into sub categories from there).
Relevant issues are discussed such as how some societal issues and global affairs affect the wealth of
Canada and how this can turn into poverty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

conclusion, rather the last section summarizes the points given. This report does not have a definitive

How Robotic Surgery Changed The World
In analyzing how the use of robots changed the world, we are going to look at three predecessors that
led to this development of robotic surgery such as the Arthrobot, the PROBOT, and the da Vinci

method is used to Perform surgery using small tools attached to a robotic arm, where the surgeon
controls the robotic arm with a computer (Robotic surgery: MedlinePlus

capability and 3 D visualization characteristic of open surgery, while simultaneously allowing the
surgeon to work through small ports of minimally invasive surgery (Robotic Surgery: The da Vinci

the greater outcomes such as it reduces the patient s stay, less pain and quicker recovery after surgery.
Using robots doesn t only benefit the patients, but also the surgeons because this reduces the burden

Social Practices And Education Will Be Contemplated Essay
Thousands of years after survival of the fittest human races depended upon instruments of warfare, the
pen, a tool not designed for combat, was declared mightier than the sword by Benjamin Franklin
(World of Quotes, 2003). Ironically it was one of the first human weapons, the sharpened stone, that
was a precursor to pen and paper when it was used to etch drawings upon cave wall dwellings (Bellis,
2004). Long use of these concrete implements forged abstractions of them. Pen and paper have been
interiorized into social practices and language (ex. back to the drawing board ), and have been
instrumental to the externalization of our innermost thoughts and emotions. Pen and paper will be
examined together as each is the other s raison d etre. The manifold impacts pen and paper had upon
industry, social practices and education will be contemplated.
Cave wall drawings were early means of non verbal self expression, and would empower the
development of symbol systems and alphabets that spurred the onset of literacy (Ong, 1982). Pen and
paper allowed humans to delve deeper into realms of communication and self expression, or perhaps
early mimicry of pen and paper indicated an innate predisposition for humans to express themselves
through this medium. Whatever the case may be, the earliest means which foreshadowed pen and
paper involved a stylus of bone, metal or ivory used to place marks on wax coated tablets called tabula
cevata. These inexpensive tablets were in widespread

One Day Of The Life Of Ivan Denisovich By Alexander...
In One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the grim nature of Soviet work
camps is depicted in a realistic and relatable way. Throughout the story, the reader must constantly

that Ivan and his work group, 104, deal with throughout the story, this all occurs within one day.
Whether it s prison mates getting their throats slit, or Ivan smuggling in metal to create protection for

Luckily he ends up only having to clean the floors of officers in the prison. However, one of the other
prisoners isn t as lucky when he is caught with a flannel vest on underneath his clothes, which is

easily been avoided by not appearing to be so proud of himself. Which clearly illustrates the depressed
state of all the prisoners. Despite being sick, Ivan isn t able to receive healthcare since the doctor isn t

is assigned to work in the power station and while he is there he steals a piece of metal to use as a

ordinary items like tobacco, which one prisoners salvaged from leftover cigarette butts, and dry bread,
shows how deprived they all were from their basic human rights. At the end of the book Ivan is
rewarded for helping a friend hide his contraband and is given a couple of biscuits, in a showing of

The Definitions Of Biological Motion
Definitions of Biological Motion (BM) mostly center around work by Johansson (1973) on visual
motion perception through his application of point light display. Within this context BM refers to the
patterns of movement characteristic to living organisms, thereby encompassing both human and
animal locomotion, insofar as it is distinct from random patterns of movement, characterized in
vertebrates by non rigid patterns constrained by skeletal structures. Studies suggesting that human
sensitivity to BM is indeed not limited to human locomotion as studies have found people capable of
identifying the locomotion of a variety of animals including quadrupeds such as dogs (Pavlova,

elbows, knees, wrists, etc.). These points are then assembled to form patterns resembling the
movement of human or non human animals, often in loopable movements, The points are thereby
capable of presenting global information, through the combined movement of the points, or local
information, focus on a single joint. Indeed motion is a fundamental component in the processing of
PLD as Pavlova et al. (2001) found that accuracy of recognition of static PLD failed to reach above
chance. Multiple methods are available to produce PLD ranging from Johannson (1973) use of light
bulbs attached to the bodies of assistants and then filmed in a dark room, which created more
naturalistic portrayals of BM, to more recent methods, employing motion capture software in
animation (Vanrie Verfaille, 2004). Advantages to the use of motion capture and three dimensional
animation software include the ability to show the same PLD from multiple viewpoints changing the
orientation.
Whether or not BM appears to be intrinsic has provided a variety of conclusions, mainly due to
difficulty replicating results. In Johansson (1973) original study it was suggested that BM was an
intrinsic or automatic response over a learned one. The majority of studies attempting to determine
whether the perception of BM was intrinsic, made use developmental studies that either made use of
preferential or discriminating forced choice tasks or

Mccarthyism In Dracula
Alongside society, art, and literature, the character of the vampire, too, has evolved. While the old,
cliched character of a vampire has usually been depicted as a cold blooded, nefarious villain,
contemporary vampires, however, possess qualities which illustrate them to be more affectionate and
compassionate. A noteworthy example of this is Edward Cullen from Stephenie Meyer s Twilight. The
origins of the idea of how a vampire can coexist with humans in society and be capable of sympathy
can be traced back to The Interview with the Vampire, written by Anne Rice, in 1976. While Twilight
is a modern phenomenon, it was Bram Stoker s Dracula that defined the vampire back in the late 18th
century.
Dracula is described as, a tall old man, clean shaven save for a long white moustache, and clad in
black from head to foot, without a single speck of colour about him anywhere. (Stoker 15). Dracula s
description proves how he was abnormal and different to humans. He is ... Show more content on

What enabled Dracula to become a chilling villain is perhaps where he comes from, Transylvania, an
eerie, obscure area with *strange* individuals and norms. Perhaps, during that time , the masses of
Stoker s nation, England, were not open to individuals of foreign cultures and ethnicities. The
xenophobic aura of England during the Victorian era facilitated Stoker to create a character the
ordinary reader would despise, yet fear.
Out of the many characteristics that transformed along with vampires in literature, the most profound
of those changes were towards normalcy. Edward Cullen from Twilight can be part of a functioning
society without individuals suspecting a vampire amongst them. Despite his vampiric roots, he was
rather different to Dracula. Edward understood he was condemned

The Effect Of Serum Albumin On Blood And Urine Samples...
77 citations.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Firstly, a test to determine the concentration of serum albumin in both blood and urine samples were
carried out. Table 1 demonstrates that Patient B discharged 43mg/mL of serum albumin which was
within the normal literature reference range provided.
Low serum albumin levels are usually associated with acute glomerulonephritis, the normal albumin
levels for Patient B implies that acute glomerulonephritis could be eliminated from list of conditions
provided. Thus suggested for both Patient B and Patient N there were no leakage of the serum albumin
in the urine. Nevertheless, (McClatchey, 2002) identified that low albumin levels may also signify
impaired liver function. Conditions such as hepatic cirrhosis and chronic hepatic cirrhosis can also be
dismissed because of the normal level of albumin in blood. This implies that no anomalies were
present thus signifying accurate results.
An advantage of the test was that the blood samples used are one of the leading analysis preferences
chosen to identify biomarkers, and easily obtainable from patients. However, as direct assay was
unavailable, Bromocresol green solution was used which changed the electronic structure thus specific
whilst binding to albumin. As a result, this generates accurate results with no anomalies for both
serum and blood. Moreover, within the expense limitations of University of Chester, a simple assay
was used (Rehm, 2006) expands that BCA assay may have been used

Difference Between Nation And State
Professor Now, we re all familiar, I think, with the United Nations organization, and we re very
accustomed to a world divided into nations but many of you may not realize how recent the idea of the
nation state really is. Most of the history of civilization s been a history of much smaller units from
primitive tribes to Greek city states and later of the much larger units usually called empires. The
concept of a political and cultural nation, as we know it today, didn t appear until near the end of the
18th century, at the time of the French and American Revolutions. Let s look at a couple of terms first,
just to make them clear. Strictly speaking, a nation is a cultural concept a group of people in a

So maybe we d better take a more careful look at the factors that seem to contribute to the idea of
nation statehood . First, geography is an obvious factor. Countries like Japan and New Zealand have
very clear boundaries, and their physical isolation makes these nations very homogeneous. However,
geography is often irrelevant Ireland and Cyprus are certainly very strongly divided islands. And many
countries, notably African countries, have boundaries that have nothing to do with natural features or
ethnicity or anything else. They are simply straight lines drawn in the last century by former colonial
powers. Is there a question?
Student Yes! Isn t the language also a determining factor?
Professor Indeed! And then there s language, which is also used as a rationale for nationhood. The
United States and Germany and France are all large, successful states that are defined mostly by
language. But on one hand, many international boundaries cut directly across language lines, as with
Belgium and The Netherlands while on the other hand, countries like South Africa and India include
speakers of many different languages. And a common ethnicity that is, a common genetic background
and a common cultural heritage have certainly helped determine the identity of many nation states.

This year I decided to go out and enjoy a little. In addition to enjoying myself, I can also learn a bit
more about the holiday itself. I wanted to go to a parade that was not very crowded, so I picked the
Krewe of Cleopatra. It was perfect for a beginner at going to parade. It was not packed with people
and it was a somewhat famous parade. It was an all female parade, so I felt a bit awkward for
attending it, but I was mistaken. I arrived there an hour ahead in order to find a parking spot. There I
saw other men and it was not as awkward as I initially thought it would be. Once the floats were
coming down from the street and I can see the women standing on top throwing beads into the crowd.
These floats were filled with different colors and the women were dressed in black. The crowd was
getting rowdy and I could barely stand still. Once the float came by I managed to catch some. These
beads were a signifier that has a special signified here in New Orleans and other places that celebrated
Mardi Gras. By the end of the parade I was tired standing and following all the floats. Even though it
was tiring, I still had lots of

The Use of Fiber Optics in Communications Essay
The Use of Fiber Optics in Communications The field of communications is one in which the
technologies are changing on an almost daily basis. Numerous different technologies have been
pursued over the past few years; each designed to essentially accomplish several basic purposes in
terms of community service. Three of the most actively pursued application include interactive
distance learning, video conferencing, and entertainment. While it is the first two, video conferencing

application of various communications applications in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Light enters one end of the fiber from a light bulb, laser, or some other source, and travels essentially
unimpeded all the way to the length of the fiber where it is intercepted by a photosensitive detector
such as an electronic device or even the human eye. The distance of travel varies according to the use
to anywhere from just a few inches to over one hundred and fifty miles. Fiber optic cable can transmit
large amounts of information over one hundred and fifty miles almost instantaneously. While it takes
five hours to transmit the contents of an encyclopedia over copper wires, the entire work can be
transmitted in less than a minute over fiber optics (Yawn PG). Single Mode/Multi Mode Fibers
referred to as single mode are most often used for the longer distance transmissions. Multi mode fibers
are used in applications requiring less distance. They are less expensive than single mode fibers and
accept light from a larger variety of sources and from different angles. Single mode fibers are smaller
in diameter than are multi mode and are particular both about the type of light they will accept and the
angle at which it can be introduced. They typically accept light only when it is directly input to the
axis of the fiber. This ability requires special light sources such as lasers and

Setting The Table For Urban Agriculture
In his article, Setting the table for Urban Agriculture, accredited writer, Michael Pollan, expounds
upon Urban Agriculture and it s place in the twenty first century. Pollan s purpose is to explain to
readers the legal and societal context of Urban Agriculture. He uses a serious tone and real world
examples in order to solidify the idea that Urban Agriculture is an integral part of our local, regional,
national, and global food infrastructure. Pollan opens his article by describing the place of Urban
Agriculture dating back to the nineteenth century, stating that, Through the nineteenth century,
vegetable gardens and farm animals were common features of city life in the United States. In fact he
goes on to say that over time agriculture died out in cities, and that now a slow resurgence has begun
to restore agriculture in urban areas which he supports by describing the growth in many urban hubs.
This technique of beginning with the history of Urban Agriculture allows Pollan to not only start with
a broad and understandable aspect of the topic but also to introduce the reoccurring theme of
urbanization to the article. The writer continues his introduction through the definition of the topic as a
whole. Urban Agriculture as defined by Pollan is a variety of economic and social activities related to
food production, distribution, processing, eating, and disposal. he follows this up by listing examples
of Urban Agriculture in action all of which have the common

  • 3. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro Never Let Me Go is about a thirty one year old woman named Kathy H. Kathy is a carer for donors and she travels from care center to care center. She talks about her childhood at Hailsham and her childhood friends, mostly Ruth and Tommy, and the adventures she experienced. At the end of the book, we learn that Kathy lives in a world where her schoolmates and her are clones that are made for donating organs until they die or complete. They accept this fate without questioning it. Never Let Me Go takes place in England during the later 1990s. The clones spend the first 16 years of their life in Hailsham. They learn everything they need to know like English, science, music, history and math. However, they never mention Hailsham s address or what city the school is located in. The school is a hidden gem and Kathy says Driving around the country now, I still see things that will remind me of Hailsham. I might pass the corner of a misty field, or see part of a large house in the distance as I come down the side of a valley, even a particular arrangement of poplar trees up on a hillside. Then I see it s impossible and I go on driving, my thoughts drifting on elsewhere. Kathy could never find Hailsham. There were many majors events in Never Let Me Go. One major event in Never Let Me Go is when Madam came to visit Hailsham. The children would create something like a poem, story, or painting and Madame would collect the item and put into the gallery if it was good enough. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These are the standard wedding vows and though, they are a married couple, these vows still play a role in any serious relationship. It is the promise of two people that they will be there, no matter what happens. However, things happen and, suddenly, that promise turns into a broken agreement. For instance, in the play Angels in America written by Tony Kushner, the character Louis leaves Prior because he has a terminal illness: AIDS. Therefore, their vow breaks the stable relationship. • 5. Global Overpopulation And Its Effects On The Population Global Overpopulation Controllable Or Inevitable Global overpopulation is an extremely broad topic that represents exactly what one would think, the overpopulation of the entire globe. Though global overpopulation is broad topic, there are many key factors that aid in the increasing total population. Some factors are more effective than others, but the most altering factor is the percentage of fertility. The direct connection between reducing the population is through pregnancy rates. There are multiple ways that a women s pregnancy rate could be significantly reduced, by the use of birth control. In the articles, Global Overpopulaton by Hobart Rowen and When Birth Control Isn t for Birth Control by Karen Klein and How to Make Birth Control More Effective. by Danielle Braff, these are great examples of how utilizing birth control will aid in the control of maintaining and reducing the growing population rates. Including the possible results, if a solution is not discovered and the population numbers continue to grow. Human nature being what it is, most people tend to focus mainly on short term goals of enriching themselves and experiencing pleasure rather than safeguarding the environment over the long term (Kuo). This is a very enlightening quote, it states what many believe, but not willing to speak out and support. When you first mention science fiction people s thoughts most likely go to books and films like Star Wars, Hunger Games, I, Robot, and Avatar, stories we don t always think of as educational . The future, aliens, space adventures, human like robots, etc. we tend to think of these as silly ideas and fantasies. But, the world of science fiction teaches us a lot about human nature; our flaws, pitfalls, and irrationalities. The flaws of our nature are demonstrated in A.I. a film based off the Supertoys stories. In this series we read/watched in class, a robot child made to stimulate love for parents without children. This artificial intelligence human robot does no wrong, loves unconditionally and always listens to their parent. Yet, it is difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Day the Earth Stood Still and Close Encounters of the Third Kind are such stories. In these stories shows our human nature in the fact of we are afraid of the unknown. For example, in The Day the Earth Stood Still we re afraid of the alien and threaten him with military forces throughout the whole rest of the film. Even when we discover he is only here to warn and save us. Close Encounters of the Third Kind is different in the fact that we do not threaten the alien visitors we wonder and welcome them if we wish. It was frightening to the characters but was the right thing to do in the situation. The irrationality in this film is shown not by the military forces but by the way Ronnie is unsupportive of Roy. Despites the fact it would be difficult to see your spouse obsessed with one thing and distant to your family, she should ve realized, stuck with him and supported him through the mess. Many people are like that in our society; only around for the good times, but when the going gets though they bail on those around. That to me is irrational. If you re not willing to stick with someone in the good and the bad, then why be part of their lives? In essence, science fiction is not just fun and games of aliens, robots and the unknown, it s a teacher. This genre educates and warns us of our destructive tendency. It is true, especially to those micronutrients which are essential such as zinc, copper, iron with respect to toxicity of certain metals like cadmium, arsenic, lead etc. It is assumed that the dietary intake of metals in excessive such as copper, iron and zinc will be protective against the toxic effects of the heavy metals like lead. The deficiency of calcium and other essential elements result in the enhanced toxicity of lead and cadmium [ref]. There had been difficulty in evaluating the role of essential nutrients like zinc, iron, copper etc on the toxicity of heavy metals, perhaps due to differences in the animal models choosen, the route of administration and other metabolic and physiological differences which leads to variable results between studies. Lead zinc relationships Cerklewski and Forbes (1976) reported that rats when fed a diet having low levels of zinc and containing 200 ppm of lead cause a marked increase in the lead levels of tibia and urinary 8 aminolevulinic acid (ALA). Technology And Its Impact On Modern Society In the past century, society has seen great leaps in technology that has connected people together more than ever, it has saved lives and continues to make day to day life simply easier to navigate. However, there are consequences to these advances. With people clamoring every year to get their hands on the newest iteration of their electronic devices, whether it be the latest iPhone, a more advanced computer or a high definition television society must confront the problems it has created by its own desire for technology. As consumers purchase newer and better version of their old electronics the question of what happens to the old ones is raised. In 2005 alone, it was estimated that Americans disposed of two million tons of electronic products a year and that by 2010 that number would grow to four hundred million annually (Eilperin). This rate of disposal leaves behind piles of unwanted electronic devices and while many of these devices end up in junk drawers there are many more that end up in landfills where their toxic metal innards contaminate drinking water and soil. Or, devices are left to go to seed in some lonely warehouse long since abandoned by its own and there is always the possibility of devices being exported to poor countries where recycling regulations are lacks. Two of the more popular adaptations were Kenneth Branagh s in 1996 and Gregory Doran s in 2009. Even though they were both based on the same play, these two movies differ greatly due to director s license. Kenneth Branagh s and Gregory Doran s adaptation of Hamlet differ greatly in terms of the setting and how each of the main characters are portrayed. One of the main differences in the two films is the setting, The original play is based in 1600s Denmark, which Branagh s movie follows for the most part. His interpretation of Elsinore Castle is posh and colorful. There is much contrast in the colors and setting of the scenes, with some being in the bright common room of the castle, with others being in the catacombs or in the dark woods outside of the castle. While Lamarck was known for his theory of inheritance by acquired characteristics, Darwin was also respectfully known for his theory of evolution by natural selection. While they did share some similar beliefs, they also disagreed on important aspects of evolution as well. The parallels and dissimilarities between the two theories can be highlighted by looking at the Trichobatrachus robustas, better known as the horror/hairy frog. The horror frog is native to the West coast area of Central Africa and belongs to the family Arthroleptidae. This frogs remarkable ability other than to grow hair on its body is to break the bones on their hind feet and to thrust a sharp claw through their skin. The claw is settled inside a mass of connective tissue. A chunk of collagen forms a bond between the claw s sharp point and a small piece of bone at the tip of the frog s toe, (NewScientist, 2008). David Blackburn of Harvard s Museum of Comparative Zoology says that claws are not coated in keratin, like all other known claws in the vertebrae world, (Science Blogs, 2008). When the frog is threatened, they flex a muscle that connects to the lower half of the claw. This severs the connection to a nodule and pulls the claw downward. However, the destination principle was used in determining how indirect taxes should be handled, which meant the indirect tax could be adjusted at the border and either rebated to the producer or waived altogether. Additionally, the indirect tax could be applied to imports. Individual countries were permitted to decide whether to rebate the indirect taxes on exports and/or to impose them on imports. This too would be balanced if all direct and indirect taxes were defined the same way internationally, but this is not the case. The problem with imposing indirect taxes on imports arises when for one country a direct tax has been mislabeled as an indirect tax. When this occurs, countries without equivalent indirect taxes do not get a tax rebate on their exports, but must pay the indirect tax when their goods arrive at the destination country. Giving direct quotes from government documents and speeches to statistics, it is divided to into three main categories: past, present, and future (and further going into sub categories from there). Relevant issues are discussed such as how some societal issues and global affairs affect the wealth of Canada and how this can turn into poverty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the report gives statistics on how many more children live in low income families, and how factors such as ethnicity, immigration status, disability can change the way poverty affects the individual s life. This article is organized very well, in a sequential manner in which one can easily find information relevant to their research by simply looking at the contents list (and the subheadings listed under different chapters). The introduction is concise and formal, however there is not a titled conclusion, rather the last section summarizes the points given. This report does not have a definitive bias as the sections explain what is previously given through statistics, thus there is is not an evident opinion (other than that poverty should be extinguished. There are not suggestions for further reading in the report, however the website in which it was found gave suggestions of other articles related to child poverty. The entire article has an abundance information that would be helpful to the social issues project, specifically statistics on how it affects the quality of life of children and ways to overcome the issue of poverty in Toronto. This report would be very helpful for those who are researching about children living in low income families, poverty, and solutions to poverty. There are some limitations within the article for example data collection, especially because there is not official poverty line. More information on data limitations are given in the appendix. The Hidden Epidemic will contribute to my project by helping to narrow which subdivision of poverty to focus on and to further understand how poverty transpires in Canada s most well known ... How Robotic Surgery Changed The World In analyzing how the use of robots changed the world, we are going to look at three predecessors that led to this development of robotic surgery such as the Arthrobot, the PROBOT, and the da Vinci Surgical System. Robotic surgery is an emerging technology that is used by many surgeons. This method is used to Perform surgery using small tools attached to a robotic arm, where the surgeon controls the robotic arm with a computer (Robotic surgery: MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia, n.d.). In conclusion, after looking at these three predecessors such as the Arthrobot, the PROBOT, and the ROBODOC, we can definitely see that robotic surgery has clearly been making history since the 1980 s until now. Many surgeons continue to use robots during surgery because of the greater outcomes such as it reduces the patient s stay, less pain and quicker recovery after surgery. • 36. Social Practices And Education Will Be Contemplated Essay Thousands of years after survival of the fittest human races depended upon instruments of warfare, the pen, a tool not designed for combat, was declared mightier than the sword by Benjamin Franklin (World of Quotes, 2003). Ironically it was one of the first human weapons, the sharpened stone, that was a precursor to pen and paper when it was used to etch drawings upon cave wall dwellings (Bellis, 2004). Long use of these concrete implements forged abstractions of them. Pen and paper have been interiorized into social practices and language (ex. back to the drawing board ), and have been instrumental to the externalization of our innermost thoughts and emotions. Pen and paper will be examined together as each is the other s raison d etre. The manifold impacts pen and paper had upon industry, social practices and education will be contemplated. Cave wall drawings were early means of non verbal self expression, and would empower the development of symbol systems and alphabets that spurred the onset of literacy (Ong, 1982). Pen and paper allowed humans to delve deeper into realms of communication and self expression, or perhaps early mimicry of pen and paper indicated an innate predisposition for humans to express themselves through this medium. Whatever the case may be, the earliest means which foreshadowed pen and paper involved a stylus of bone, metal or ivory used to place marks on wax coated tablets called tabula cevata. These inexpensive tablets were in widespread ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Despite the constant dangers and distress that Ivan and his work group, 104, deal with throughout the story, this all occurs within one day. Whether it s prison mates getting their throats slit, or Ivan smuggling in metal to create protection for himself, they all struggle to survive in this cold unforgiving gulag. Which clearly illustrates the depressed state of all the prisoners. His group is assigned to work in the power station and while he is there he steals a piece of metal to use as a potential defense weapon later on. • 38. The Definitions Of Biological Motion Definitions of Biological Motion (BM) mostly center around work by Johansson (1973) on visual motion perception through his application of point light display. Within this context BM refers to the patterns of movement characteristic to living organisms, thereby encompassing both human and animal locomotion, insofar as it is distinct from random patterns of movement, characterized in vertebrates by non rigid patterns constrained by skeletal structures. Studies suggesting that human sensitivity to BM is indeed not limited to human locomotion as studies have found people capable of identifying the locomotion of a variety of animals including quadrupeds such as dogs (Pavlova, Krägeloh Mann, Sokolov, Birbaumer. 2001). BM contains significant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... elbows, knees, wrists, etc.). These points are then assembled to form patterns resembling the movement of human or non human animals, often in loopable movements, The points are thereby capable of presenting global information, through the combined movement of the points, or local information, focus on a single joint. Indeed motion is a fundamental component in the processing of PLD as Pavlova et al. (2001) found that accuracy of recognition of static PLD failed to reach above chance. Multiple methods are available to produce PLD ranging from Johannson (1973) use of light bulbs attached to the bodies of assistants and then filmed in a dark room, which created more naturalistic portrayals of BM, to more recent methods, employing motion capture software in animation (Vanrie Verfaille, 2004). Advantages to the use of motion capture and three dimensional animation software include the ability to show the same PLD from multiple viewpoints changing the orientation. Whether or not BM appears to be intrinsic has provided a variety of conclusions, mainly due to difficulty replicating results. In Johansson (1973) original study it was suggested that BM was an intrinsic or automatic response over a learned one. The majority of studies attempting to determine whether the perception of BM was intrinsic, made use developmental studies that either made use of preferential or discriminating forced choice tasks or ... • 39. Mccarthyism In Dracula Alongside society, art, and literature, the character of the vampire, too, has evolved. While the old, cliched character of a vampire has usually been depicted as a cold blooded, nefarious villain, contemporary vampires, however, possess qualities which illustrate them to be more affectionate and compassionate. A noteworthy example of this is Edward Cullen from Stephenie Meyer s Twilight. The origins of the idea of how a vampire can coexist with humans in society and be capable of sympathy can be traced back to The Interview with the Vampire, written by Anne Rice, in 1976. While Twilight is a modern phenomenon, it was Bram Stoker s Dracula that defined the vampire back in the late 18th century. Dracula is described as, a tall old man, clean shaven save for a long white moustache, and clad in black from head to foot, without a single speck of colour about him anywhere. (Stoker 15). Perhaps, during that time , the masses of Stoker s nation, England, were not open to individuals of foreign cultures and ethnicities. The xenophobic aura of England during the Victorian era facilitated Stoker to create a character the ordinary reader would despise, yet fear. Out of the many characteristics that transformed along with vampires in literature, the most profound of those changes were towards normalcy. • 40. The Effect Of Serum Albumin On Blood And Urine Samples... 77 citations. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Firstly, a test to determine the concentration of serum albumin in both blood and urine samples were carried out. Table 1 demonstrates that Patient B discharged 43mg/mL of serum albumin which was within the normal literature reference range provided. Low serum albumin levels are usually associated with acute glomerulonephritis, the normal albumin levels for Patient B implies that acute glomerulonephritis could be eliminated from list of conditions provided. Thus suggested for both Patient B and Patient N there were no leakage of the serum albumin in the urine. Nevertheless, (McClatchey, 2002) identified that low albumin levels may also signify impaired liver function. Conditions such as hepatic cirrhosis and chronic hepatic cirrhosis can also be dismissed because of the normal level of albumin in blood. This implies that no anomalies were present thus signifying accurate results. An advantage of the test was that the blood samples used are one of the leading analysis preferences chosen to identify biomarkers, and easily obtainable from patients. However, as direct assay was unavailable, Bromocresol green solution was used which changed the electronic structure thus specific whilst binding to albumin. As a result, this generates accurate results with no anomalies for both serum and blood. Moreover, within the expense limitations of University of Chester, a simple assay was used (Rehm, 2006) expands that BCA assay may have been used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Difference Between Nation And State Professor Now, we re all familiar, I think, with the United Nations organization, and we re very accustomed to a world divided into nations but many of you may not realize how recent the idea of the nation state really is. Most of the history of civilization s been a history of much smaller units from primitive tribes to Greek city states and later of the much larger units usually called empires. The concept of a political and cultural nation, as we know it today, didn t appear until near the end of the 18th century, at the time of the French and American Revolutions. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So maybe we d better take a more careful look at the factors that seem to contribute to the idea of nation statehood . First, geography is an obvious factor. Countries like Japan and New Zealand have very clear boundaries, and their physical isolation makes these nations very homogeneous. However, geography is often irrelevant Ireland and Cyprus are certainly very strongly divided islands. And many countries, notably African countries, have boundaries that have nothing to do with natural features or ethnicity or anything else. They are simply straight lines drawn in the last century by former colonial powers. Is there a question? Student Yes! Isn t the language also a determining factor? Professor Indeed! And then there s language, which is also used as a rationale for nationhood. The United States and Germany and France are all large, successful states that are defined mostly by language. But on one hand, many international boundaries cut directly across language lines, as with Belgium and The Netherlands while on the other hand, countries like South Africa and India include speakers of many different languages. And a common ethnicity that is, a common genetic background and a common cultural heritage have certainly helped determine the identity of many nation states. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Setting The Table For Urban Agriculture In his article, Setting the table for Urban Agriculture, accredited writer, Michael Pollan, expounds upon Urban Agriculture and it s place in the twenty first century. Pollan s purpose is to explain to readers the legal and societal context of Urban Agriculture. He uses a serious tone and real world examples in order to solidify the idea that Urban Agriculture is an integral part of our local, regional, national, and global food infrastructure. Pollan opens his article by describing the place of Urban Agriculture dating back to the nineteenth century, stating that, Through the nineteenth century, vegetable gardens and farm animals were common features of city life in the United States. In fact he goes on to say that over time agriculture died out in cities, and that now a slow resurgence has begun to restore agriculture in urban areas which he supports by describing the growth in many urban hubs. This technique of beginning with the history of Urban Agriculture allows Pollan to not only start with a broad and understandable aspect of the topic but also to introduce the reoccurring theme of urbanization to the article. The writer continues his introduction through the definition of the topic as a whole.
