The Science Of The Earth Essay
Introduction
The science that is connected with planet earth encompasses geosciences or earth science among
others. Containing old histories, this is considered as a part of planetary science while it possesses
holistic and reductionist approaches in the science of the planet Earth. This discipline can cope with
lithosphere, atmosphere, biosphere or hydrosphere. Quantitative understanding has been developed
by the scientists to understand the ground systems with the tools by mathematics, physics,
chronology, biology, chemistry alike that help to know how the universe is evolved.
Deliberations
According to a news release from NASA, coronal mass ejections caused by geomagnetic storms
have been enhanced in strength; as from G1 to G5, they were rated G3 in 2012. The earth planet is
surrounded and by bubbles of magnetic fields while rapid changes in the earth magnetosphere were
witnessed due to activities that happened on sun that caused a geomagnetic storm. With earth s
magnetic fields, coronal mass ejections were mingled; as a result, the wind became mild in
intensity reported in the month of March in the corresponding year (Philips, 2009).
On the other hand, the geomagnetic storms have been intensified and enhanced in their frequency
as magnetic fields of coronal mass ejections indulges with that of the earth that causes change of
direction and leave more radiation and magnetic energy into the environment of the planet earth.

Sisters Of Mercy
The Sister s of Mercy live up to five critical concerns, which means that they have five focus
points of which they feel are the strongest and most important issues to focus on. These topics
include: Earth, Immigration, Racism, Women, and Nonviolence. While all five topics are
important, the Sisters of Mercy work towards ending violence. The Sisters of Mercy focus on the
violence of the community as well as how it surrounds school settings. Every day, a person is put
into danger because of the place they live in. Starting from a young age and being in school and
getting bullied, to growing up and join a gang, violence is all over the community and is never
ending. This affects society because people should feel safe when they re in the community,... Show

In the Newspaper article, Building a Safe Chicago written by the Chicago Sun Times, underlines
the meaning of violence and describes how people in the community fell as they live in fear
because of the violence caused in their neighborhoods. The article states, What we do know is
that several of our neighborhoods are and have been experiencing persistent and
disproportionately high levels of violence. It ripples through families and communities and
should be a matter of concern to every Chicago resident (Chicago Sun Times). These people live
their lives with an unknown fear today. Everyday they question their safety as they live in the
city. As this connects to schools, students should feel safe at school. The classroom is meant to
be a safe environment where they can learn about the world as well as themselves. When school
s are attacked by shooters or even by bullies students shut down and become fearful of their
education. The Sisters of Mercy live up to this concern as they work towards their goal of ending
violence. They have hopes of keeping the world safe and finding ways to make the community a
safer place to live. In conclusion, the Sun Times stand against violence in hopes that one day as a
community we can end violence all

Radical Feminism Versus Liberal Feminism
Feminist theories are an extension of feminism into theoretical and philosophical discourse. They
aim at understanding of the nature of gender inequality .They in turn examine women s social roles
and life experiences .While in general some provide a critique of social relationships .Most feminist
theories also focus on analysing gender inequality and the promotion of women s rights, interests
and issues .Among such theories are the Liberal feminismand the Radical feminism theories. While
Liberal and Radical feminism both seek to ensure that women have access to resources and human
rights in a gender equal environment they however do not necessarily employ similar methods in
achieving these results. Each has its own distinct reason behind... Show more content on

The main perpetrators being male. They identify patriarch as a system of power that organises
society into a complex of relationships based on an assumption of males being the more superior
of the sexes. The end result in such societies is the oppression of women by men .Radical
feminists identify only one solution, to challenge and completely overthrow patriarchy by
whatever means possible .Including opposing standard gender roles. Whatever they see as male
oppression of women calls for a reordering of society , Wikipedia the internet free dictionary.
Liberal feminists generally work for the eradication of institutional bias and the implication of
better laws. They legally challenge ideas and practices that result in women being seen as second
class citizens. They do not challenge capitalism, patriarchy or any other fundamental structures of
society. They advocate for transformational changes. Liberal feminists wish to achieve gender
equality by working with the system rather than over throwing it , for example liberals do not call
for the abolishment of the marriage institution instead they want the institution to be structured in
such a way that it is not oppressive and imbalanced . In contrast Radicals are extremists and they
strongly believe in a revolutionary change. Radicals on the left wing according to Henslin (1995)
believe that subjugation of women is the most basic and fundamental cause of oppression. Radicals
therefore believe

Granite
What type of minerals are in granite? The minerals that are in granite are Feldspar, Hornblende,
Mica, Quartz, and Magnetite. These minerals are in granite because of their color, hardness,
streak, luster and their break. These properties are helpful for identifying if the mineral is a part of
granite or if it not a part of granite.
Many minerals are apart of other rocks just like granite. Granite consists of some minerals like
Hornblende and Feldspar. Hornblende is a mineral apart of granite that is black, dark green, and
brown. The mineral has a streak of a white, grayish color. The reason that Hornblende is apart of
granite is because a scratch test was done on the parts of the granite sample that are the same
color as hornblende, the streak on those parts of the granite sample were the exact same color as
the Hornblende streak, therefore Hornblende is apart of granite. Feldspar is a mineral that is
also apart of granite, Feldspar is white, pink and gray. Feldspar has a streak of the color white and
is considered nonmetallic. Feldspar is a mineral is granite because the granite sample is mostly
consisting of the color pink. These two minerals are only some of the minerals of granite. ... Show

and looks like black pieces of paper with white scratches all over it. Another fact about Mica is
that it s streak color is colorless. Mica is a mineral inside granite considering the black dots around

Who Is Daisy Ridley s Character In The Force Awakens
When Star Wars Episode 8 star Daisy Ridley portrayed Rey in The Force Awakens, no one would
have expected for the actress to be criticized for her appearance.
I will not apologize for how I look, Daisy Ridley says. This issue came about after an Instagram
user accused the British actress for setting unrealistic expectations for young people by being too
thin, according to ET.
The blockbuster star was trolled with a meme of Ridley s character in The Force Awakens. The
body shaming meme also had a speech bubble that reads: I can t believe the unrealistic
expectations I m setting for young girls. Who cast me anyway? Don t they know real women haves

Dangerous Offenders Legislation Essay
The new Dangerous Prisoners (Sexual Offenders) Act (2003) In Queensland permits prisoners to
be kept in prison beyond their release date where a court finds that there is a high degree of
probability that they represent a serious danger to the community . Other jurisdictions have enacted
similar legislation to restrict the releaseof prisoners assessed to be dangerous. Do you think that
dangerousness legislation of this sort is justified or unjustified?
Several states across the Country have enacted or attempted to enact legislation which can enable
detention of a prisoner past his/her release date. This type of legislation s general purpose is to

This type of legislation provides a framework whereas an application can be made to further detain
a prisoner who is due to release as they are deemed to be an unacceptable risk of further offending
and their further detention will protect the community (Field, 2003).
Whilst it is generally accepted that the community broadly welcomes such imposing and punitive
legislation, it is imperative that our disgust for these offences/offenders does not prevent us from
finding the injustice on an ethical and moral basis (Wortley and Smallbone, 2003).
One of the fundamental principles of the Criminal Law System is the presumption of innocence
until proven guilty (McSherry, 2003). By enacting punitive legislation such as the examples given
above, it has been said that it is removing this Common law right from the individual (Greig,
1995). It has also been said that it creates an exception to the general principle of law that no
person shall be imprisoned unless a court comprised of Judge/Jury is convinced, beyond reasonable
doubt that the person committed a very serious offence. Thereby effectively allowing people to be
detained without the burden of proving guilt (Keon Cohen, 1992).
Whilst it is appreciated that the offenders who will be subject to such legislation are in

Theatre Tradition In The Renaissance Theatre
Theatre Tradition: English Renaissance Theatre
The Renaissance as we all know and have learnt is defined as the cultural rebirth that occurred in
Europe from the fourteenth century to the middle of the seventeenth century. The Renaissance is
usually grouped with Italy and the artistic development that took place there, with the focus shifting
from god or a higher deity to man, the emergence of the well renowned Leonardo Da Vinci, the
idea of observing, evaluating and then coming to a conclusion were major influences in Italy and
are often studied about. However the Renaissance affected other countries in similar ways to
further their progress as a society. The Neoclassical Era in France, the Elizabethan Era in England

But before the amphitheatres there were inn yards. The Elizabethan Inn yards were a fore runner to
Elizabethan Theatres such as the Globe Theatre. Elizabethan Inns were always popular. Not only
did they provide alcohol but they also provided rooms and lodgings for the Elizabethan traveller.
All of these amphitheatres consisted of a large open space in which the audience would stand.
This open space was called the pit and was meant for those people who couldn t afford a proper
seat within the theatre itself, this would usually cost only one penny. These audience members
were called the understanders as they were not as educated and high class. Behind the
understanders would be three rings of galleries, one above the other, each nine or ten feet high,
where the people were prepared to pay a little more for a better seat and cushions. For the upper
class there were special seats, or rooms called the lords rooms which were positioned above the
entrances of the stage. Even though the seats were poor for watching the play itself they were
mainly to show the others their privilege. The stage itself was a proscenium arch stage, putting the
scenes into a pictorial frame allowing the audience to have a clear perspective of where to look at.
Restoration theatres came into existence in 1660. The picture frame stage is the basis of most
modern staging and certainly the model for all cinema and television

Towers Watson Performance Management Analysis Essay
New research from Towers Watson s Performance Management Pulse Survey 2015 has confirmed
that the concerns raised in these articles are shared widely in many companies around the Europe,
Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. Almost 65% of organisations described their performance
management processes as ineffective, while only three out of 10 managers and employees reported
being satisfied with these same processes.

But while there is broad agreement about the ineffectiveness of many current programmes, the
reasons behind the dissatisfaction are surprisingly different from the picture painted by the
headlines. Rather than confirming that companies are spending too much time on developing
employee performance, the survey found that 83% of companies invest fewer than six hours per
year on each employee. Against a background where employees are often demanding more frequent
feedback and touchpoints, there is a clear disconnect emerging.
Global employee engagement data confirm how important spending time to set clear goals and
objectives and discussing careers is to employees. Indeed, these frequently appear as two of the top
three drivers of sustainable engagement and retention.
In this most recent survey, for example, employees said they want to spend more time setting
relevant goals (58%) and participating in performance feedback and career discussions (72%).
These results further underscore

Analysis Of The Article Gop Fox Circus Act By Reed...
In the article GOP Fox Circus Act , Reed Richardson argues that although both the GOP and Fox
have conservative political values, they are ultimately harmful to each other s agendas because
of their differing political goals. Both organizations are lacking popularity in recent years so
they are struggling to find new ways to gain an audience. The GOP wants to find a way to get
their ideas to a wide variety of people, whereas Fox is promoting more liberal views to increase
the ratings of their programs. On one hand, the GOP s reputation is hurt by the inaccuracy of Fox
s reporting. On the other hand, Fox is tied down by the conservative views of the GOP, thus
restraining Fox from gaining a larger audience. Journalist Reed Richardson wrote this article for
The National, a liberal newspaper, in 2013, so the events and issues that he is speaking of are still
relevant to this day. Due to the differences of political views between the author and the subject
matter, there is plenty of room for biased statements and opinions. Does Richardson provide enough
evidence of the harmful effects of the Fox and GOP relationship? Richardson clearly and
meticulously establishes the problems that both organizations face in the pursuit of their political
goals with the use of statistics, reliable sources, and thorough evaluation of events; however
Richardson constantly provides the reader with a biased argument when discussing the current state
of Fox. Richardson successfully portrays the

The Impact Of Social Behaviors On Human Behavior
Introduction Group behaviour, also known as gregarious behaviour, occurs in a wide variety of
animals including, but not limited to, invertebrates (Ritz, 1994), fish (Shaw, 1970), birds (Lack,
1968), wildebeests (Gueron and Levin, 1993), lions (Bertram, 1975), and primates (Nakagawa,
1990). Benefits of group living include improved reproductive success, increased foraging
success, and improved predation survival (Hamilton, 1971; Reluga and Viscido, 2005). Social
behaviours evolve when the benefits of group living outweigh the costs (Fleagle, 2013). Predation
risk is lowered in social groups by confusing the predator so the predator s success decreases (Hall
et al., 1986; Smith and Warburton, 1992), by providing improved vigilance more... Show more

Group living in animals can be an act of selfish behavior, one of the reasons being the reduced
risk of predation (Morrell and James, 2008). Species that show this behaviour include
sticklebacks (Krause and Tegeder, 1994), banded killifish (Hoare et al., 2004), toad tadpoles
(Watt et al., 1997; Spieler and Linsenmair, 1999) and ocean skaters (Foster and Treherne, 1981).
By keeping close to others and forming a group, an animal can benefit from collective vigilance,
predator confusion, and the dilution risk, all which reduce the chance of predation to that
individual (Morrell and James, 2008; Krause and Ruxton, 2002). Selfish herd theory The selfish
herd theory was developed by Hamilton and is widely excepted as a explanation for the selfish
grouping of animals (Morrell and James, 2008). The Selfish herd theory states that individuals
within a population attempt to reduce their predation risk by putting other individuals between
themselves and predators resulting in groups of animals (Hamilton, 1971). Hamilton s proposed
theory contrasted the hypothesis that evolution of such social behaviour was based on mutual
benefits to the population (Hamilton, 1971). An animal may join a group for its own selfish
reasons, seeking to push the risk of being a victim of predation onto other members (Breed and
Moore, 2011). In groups, predation risk is greatest on the outside edge and lower towards the

School Programs For Empowering The Youth
After School Programs for Empowering the Youth
The wide spectrum of Los Angeles County has as much variety as tourist sites, as told by the
media on one end. However, on the other end, unfortunately Los Angeles County also consists of
highly disorganized cities and high crime areas. Cities like Huntington Park and Compton are
considered deviant places as described by Siegel (2011) because they are poor, densely populated,
and highly transient neighborhoods (p. 71). Therefore, making these communities at higher risk for
engaging in crime. Also, since the majority of parents living in these communities are working
parents, in which most of them leave their children without parental or guardian supervision
during the danger zone, which consist of after school hours from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. During this
time children are unsafe and have a high possibility to engage in drugs and/ or participate in gang
activity. Thus, it is important for local schools to provide the community with quality after school
programs since they deliver a safe environment where the youth have the ability to learn a variety
of skills and more importantly stay out of trouble. However, there is greater availability of after
school programs for K 8 students, leaving high school students at a disadvantage. Thus, there is a
greater need for after school programs to be implemented in high schools since this is the age
group that is most vulnerable to crime activity, especially teenage males. Youth males are

Psychological Resistance In A. S. Byatt s Possession

fact they will continue to have an influential effect on his behavior through whole his life. There

The Influence Of Modern Art
Is modern art affecting our American Economy, or any economy for that manner, in a terrible
way? After all, these wealthy individuals are spending their hard earned bills, hundreds upon
thousands upon millions of it in some piece of art that doesn t make any sense to anyone but the
maker. This could lead to a huge break, that these supposedly grimey buyers are making our
economy go down the toilet, and it could be on them. Art in itself is a very inspiring investment,
but the fact that these artists that spit out works that don t put any effort or passion into it are
making the green show more readily than more passionate artists. Modern art sales may be
affecting our economy with their meaning leading to quick production, their odd cult worship
making it understandable to those who purchase it, inflating their ego so to speak, and the types of
sales types where the money goes and how it is made.
How art these works created so quickly, and what is the norm as far as meaning goes? The whole
of Modern art is abstract pieces, meaning art that is very hard to comprehend as far as the rational
mind goes. Bruce Hinrichs, a professor, psychologist, and artist himself at University of Illinois,
studied the ideology and the mind behind Modern Art. Hinrichs claims that More than any
preceding artistic style or aesthetic, Modernism epitomizes the emergence of a deliberate cultural
and social agenda. (Pg 22). Most of the art is made from Modern idea and events, making them

Examples Of Indecision In Hamlet
Indecision, by dictionary definition is simply the inability to make decisions quickly. However,
indecision itself is not actually such an intelligible term, but rather an overly complex one that dips
into the intricate nature of the human mindset. This becomes even more accurate when the act of
indecisiveness is paired with compelling circumstances. Oftentimes human beings are required to
act irrationally because their circumstances force them to do so. Our opinions and actions seem
justifiable, yet they may also come across as deceitful and immoral. The overriding internal
conflict of choosing between personal desire and what is morally correct becomes the central
aspect of many human trials. William Shakespeare, the writer of many well known... Show more

Ophelia is Hamlet s love interest throughout the entire play. However, in an attempt to be
strategic, Hamlet feigns insanity in order to be deceiving and in turn breaks Ophelia s heart. His
sudden disinterest towards her coupled with her father Polonius and brother Laertes commands
to stay away from Hamlet composes a dire internal conflict within Ophelia s mind. She is torn
between her undying love for Hamlet versus her desire to be an obedient daughter and sister. In
addition, Hamlet unintentionally murders Polonius rather than Claudius, which also adds to
Ophelia s insanity. To make matter worse, Ophelia has no mother figure within her life. So taken
all together, she is stuck in a constant battle within herself with nobody who is there for her. I
hope all will be well. We must be patient/ but I cannot choose but weep/ to think they would lay

leaves her with nobody to discuss her feelings and troubles with. Because of this constant battle
within her life, Ophelia finds herself in a confrontation with her emotions, which ends in her

entertainment experience for people of all ages starting out with short films and then moving into
full length motion pictures. Since its inception the Disney Company has grown into a worldwide
organization and is made up of four major areas. Those areas are studio entertainment, consumer

This idea was no different with the establishment of HKD. Aside from this worldwide perception
that Disney has HKD sought to bring visitors for other reasons as well. One of the main
strategies was to offer this experience at a very affordable rate. The price for a one day was
$295 in Hong Kong which is equivalent to $38 in the United States. Along with these low rates
there were also many special offers that were constantly available to visitors. These offers
included special rates for certain occasions, discounted rates for children and senior citizens and
the ability to purchase packages through travel agencies. In fact HKD encouraged the purchase of
tickets through travel agents and on their website. They limited the number tickets that were able
to be bought by walk up visitors to keep the wait to enter the park at a minimum. Another corporate
strategy was the emphasis that Disney put on their employees or cast member as they refer to them
as. Every employee that was hired was sent to the Walt DisneyPark in Orlando for training to get
accustomed to the expectations of a Walt Disney employee. Along with this extensive training each
employee was required to speak multiple languages in order to cater to all guests that may be

How Does Ronald Wright Define Civic Participation In A...
Civic involvement and citizenship are common terms used interchangeably in order to describe
individual responsibility in society. However, upon further evaluation, both words address different
aspects of society itself. Citizenship can be understood as certain obligations, liberties, and
privileges embodied by an individual; and civic involvement is the activities associated with those
responsibilities. The following definition summarizes the broader scope of citizenshipand civic
involvement assumed in A Short History of Progress by Ronald Wright. In this book, Wright
describes the progress of citizenship, and the perception that mankind gradually improves over
time. Wright refutes this idea describing it as a progress trap . Progress traps are created by the
overuse of natural resources, too much faith in religion, and natural short comings. Past societies,
such as the Roman Empire and the Aztecs, structured their culture around progress and economic

Citizen participation in community affairs serves as a check to politicians since it reduces the
likelihood of leaders making self serving decisions. For example, in 3,000 B.C. half of the land that
was irrigated in the Fertile Crescent became saline due to the overuse of the land. This
uninhabitable ecosystem is now forced onto present day communities because the leaders of that
time made rash and unplanned decisions. Such cultural patterns are very dangerous since it leaves
no room for population growth, innovations, and natural fluctuations. Therefore, community

mostly Carbon, which is harmful to the environment, leading to global warming and climate
change, and O zone destruction. These conditions cause global temperature increase, ocean
acidification, rising sea levels, health problems due to pollution, and the destruction of ecosystems
(climate.nasa.gov). Considering these issues, alternative energysources are something that can be
used to help combat harmful fossil fuels and lessen humanity s Carbon footprint (the amount of
carbon dioxide and other carbon compounds emitted due to the consumption of fossil fuels by a
person, group, etc.). There are multiple alternative and renewable energy sources available on
the market today. Some of these include: solar panels, geothermal systems, and wind turbines;
However, another alternative energy source could be harvesting lightning. Unlike the previous
alternative energy sources, lightning can produce large amounts of power in a single strike. A
single lightning bolt carries enough energy comparable to the energy stored in 145 liters of
petrol (Malavika1, Vishal, p. 23). The lightning does not have to be built or mass produced, only
the system used to harvest it. Harvesting the power of lightning would allow for a decrease on the
reliance of fossil fuels for power as well as help solve

Thesis On Preterm Birth
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the study
Preterm birth is a crisis and creates unique challenges in their management for all health care
providers. The preterm babies are born too soon. Preterm is defined as babies born alive before 37
weeks of pregnancy is completed. Preterm birth occurs for a variety of reasons. Most preterm births
happen spontaneously, but some are due to early induction of biological systems, which may affect
the lung and liver maturity. These infants need special care in a nursery until the organ system has
developed enough to sustain life without support. This may take weeks to months. (Guha,K.,
Dipak. 2005).
Almost 60% of preterm births occur in Africa and South Asia, still preterm birthis truly a global ...

Among twenty preterm were selected in experimental and control group. Each infant received
either feeding with oral support or feeding without oral support for 2 consecutive feedings per
day on 2 consecutive days. Infants shows a greater intake rate during the intervention feedings,
both during the first 5 min (p = .046) and throughout the entire feeding (p = .023). The
percentage of leakage during the first 5 min feeding was smaller in the intervention condition
than in the control condition (p = .040). No significant differences were found between the two
conditions in the sucking, physiological, and alertness variables. Findings confirm oral support
as a safe and effective strategy to improve the feeding performance of preterm infants who are
poor feeders. (Yea Shwu Hwang, Chyi Her Lin, 2010). A study was conducted to determine the
effectiveness of oral support on feeding efficiency in preterm infants. Thirteen preterm infants
were selected between 30 to 40 weeks of gestation age at children s hospital and medical center in
Seattle, Washington. They were randomly selected the groups once with oral support and once
without oral support. Only the first 2 min of feed were used for data analysis. Statically significant

I Don t Take It !
Oh, is that all? Harry knelt down, scrounging around beneath the bedding. He withdrew the

Go ahead, I won t stop you. What? Take it! Why would you... Draco s eyes narrowed as he

Look, I don t know what you re up to, but... Severus had only been half listening, distracted by the
crashes and screams coming from the other side of the room. Abruptly, he jerked his head
around, giving Draco a sharp look. Don t take it to him. Just like that, Draco abandoned his
suspicions toward Harry, focusing on him instead. Why not? Because it s a fake, Severus said, a
mere replica of the item the Dark Lord wishes to possess. If you present him with such an
unworthy object, he will not be pleased. Snatching the diadem out of Harry s hand, Draco
backed up a couple steps. You re lying. You just want to take it to him yourself! I assure you, I
do not. Trying to take all the credit, just like you did last year! He asked me to do it, and you had
to keep butting in, didn t you? Never even gave me a chance! You couldn t have done it, Draco. I
could have! If you d just stayed out of the bloody way... Harry must ve known they were talking

Elizabeth Cady Stanton s Declaration Of Sentiments
My paper will include Elizabeth Cady Stanton and what made her set out to start the Women s
Rights Movement with her friend Susan B Anthony. Elizabeth became an early leader for the
women s rights movements, writing the Declaration of Sentiments as a sign for equal rights for
women. In every soul there is bound up some truth and some error, and each gives to the world of

Essay On Should Americans Learn A Second Language
Should Americans Learn a Second Language? Lots of people have many different opinions on if
americans should start learning a second language, but the ratio of foreign people to americans is
growing. A percentage of 13.7% as of 2015 is foreign born people in America, it is projected to go
up to 14.9% by 2025, a record according to the United StatesCensus. Taking the time to learn a
second languagecan have some very positive side effects on your attention span and memory. A

Christianity In Beowulf By Seamus Heaney
The novel Beowulf by Seamus Heaney is told in late medieval Anglo Saxon Britain, after they were
already christianized, but its about early medieval Scandinavia, which is pagan. Although Beowulf
is believed to be pagan, the narrator of the poem makes constant references to God suggesting that
hero Beowulf s trust in God can be translated into christianity. The Angelo Saxon legends were
passed down through oral tradition, so by the time the monks got it, they added several christian
elements to it. The author may have written it to influence the pagan people at the time. In Beowulf,
there are many pagan practices described, the relationship between God(s), and shows how the
heroic code conflicts with christian sensibility. Grendel is said to

Duck Creek Watershed Essay
Background (1 В¶): What is the Duck Creek Watershed? What problems is it facing? What is
being done so far to remedy these problems? Who is working on this problem?
The Duck Creek watershed in Scott County, IA is currently facing high levels of Escherichia coli
(E. coli) bacteria contamination. This pollution has put the watershed on the impaired waters list
for the state of Iowa. The impaired waters list is a comprehensive list of every waterway in a state
that has a contamination problem according to EPA regulations (insert source for impaired waters
explanation EPA regulations). Much of the pollution that can be found in the Duck Creek watershed
is coming from nonpoint source (NPS) pollution. Nonpoint source pollution significantly
contributes to the deterioration of water quality due to the difficulty in identifying, assessing and
controlling the sources of this type of pollution (citation Wang). This pollution is caused by runoff
moving over the land. It picks up and carries away natural and human made pollutants, finally
depositing them into lakes, streams, rivers, wetlands and even our underground sources of drinking
water (citation SCSWCD). Examples of nonpoint sources in the watershed could include failing
septic systems, livestock access to streams, pastures full of manure, fertilizers applied to crops,
miscellaneous urban sources such as gasoline or oil, pet waste, and wildlife (citation SCSWCD).
Another source of NPS pollution is that conventional urban storm

Link explained that Wilson believed he was chosen by god to protect and preserve democracy.
Wilson fought tooth and nail to keep America out of the war and remain completely neutral,
however due to unavoidable foreign aggression and loss of American life and economic despair,
Wilson declared war in April 1917. Throughout the entire war Wilson campaigned for Peace
without Victory and self determination amongst the belligerent countries. As the war progressed it
seems less and less likely that Wilson would get his wishes until finally in November 1918 World
War I came to a halt. As peace negotiations began Wilson still had high hopes that the Allies and
Germany could still work things out peacefully. Unfortunately things didn t run as smoothly as
planned. Wilson ended up sacrificing many principals for overall peace. Though international issues
were eventually settled there was much criticism towards Wilson during and after the negations
were settled. There are many reasons that World War I happened. Wilson was unfortunately caught
in the middle of international conflict despite desperately attempting to stay out of the war.
According to link, Wilson believed that the cause of World War I was due to a plethora of events
including growing militarism, the growing nationalism in the Austro Hungarian Empire, Russia s

Advantages Of Four Point System For Fabric Inspection
Why Four Point System preferable for Fabric Inspection?
The word of Inspection in garments engineering mainly identifies to the visual examination or

any apparel industry to keep away from rejects due to low fabric or accessories quality and
precautions to remove unexpected loss/defects of finished goods.
The quality of a finished item in apparel industry is mostly controlled on the quality of fabric

related quality troubles before it moved to production.
* Fabric mill: Have to inspect 100% of finished goods; defects must be recorded for each roll.

Persepolis Feminist Essay
Authors often use themes in their works to divulge some of their personal experiences, beliefs, or
just simply a topic they desire to write about. Written in the early 2000s, Marjane Satrapi s coming
of age story about herself as a young girl living in Iran during the Iran Revolution, otherwise known
as Persepolis, includes a vast majority of themes including warfare, religion, freedom versus
confinement, and finally, femininity. One of the major themes that really stuck out was feminism
and women oppression. Although Satrapi includes feminism in her novel, she does not consider
herself a feminist; she calls herself a humanist. The purpose of this essay is to explain how Marjane
Satrapi incorporates feminism in her novel Persepolis despite the fact that she considers herself a

In other words, humanists tend to focus more on the importance of just being human rather than
any underlying aspects of being one. For instance, humanists care more about the value and needs

The Viewer Is The Witness In Night And Fog
How the Viewer is the Witness in Night and Fog Alain Resnais Night and Fog is a Holocaust
documentary shot in 1955 that served as a lens into the hellish landscape of the Holocaust. It was
shot with footage of the Holocaust combined with a voiceover narration that provides a detailed
look into the horrors of the Holocaust. The filmproved to be a success but it struggled through
censorship due to its inherent gruesome nature. This is because the film uses various techniques in
such a way that the viewer of the film feel that they themselves have become witnesses of these
tragedies, as opposed to just being a viewer of a documentary about the Holocaust, thus making the
viewer experience of the film much more impactful. Traditional documentaries use interviews and
first hand witness accounts to tell the story, but Night and Fog does not. It presents everything
objectively and lets the powerful, fast paced cinematography and narration tell the story. Another
technique used is the rapid juxtaposition shots from the past and present, thus giving the film a
sense of timelessness. The last technique used is toward the end when the narrator asks the
harrowing question whether or not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Night and Fog refrains from all of this, and accomplishes its goal of educating about the Holocaust
by simply showing horror after horror after horror of the Holocaust, giving the viewer no time to

for a truly painful viewing experience which is precisely what the director intended. Some
documentaries might refrain from the utmost revolting of content for fear of deterring their viewers
but Night and Fog never censors the unquestionable reality of the past. Even though the film is only
half an hour long, this stylization allows the film to encompass plenty of information about the

Failure In A College Student
Failure is Okay
When a student is transitioning from the home life into the life of a college student, it can be
very difficult. At home, one listens to their parents and normally has a very structured life. In
college, parents make one create a structured life of their own. One of the scariest things for a
college student is failure during this change in their life. Jim Rohn reminds one, Your life does
not get better by chance, it gets better by change. The fear of being on your own and having to
take initiative can be overwhelming and one may fail, but change is a way to reach success. For a
college student to successfully begin life on their own requires self esteem, creation of self image,
and self improvement. While many feel that failure is an indication in lack of self improvement,
Roth the author of The Achievement Habit, believes failure is a validating sign of improvement.
When one begins college, they feel the pressure in many aspects of life. First, they feel pressure
from their parents to always go to class, get good grades, keep their dorm clean, and make new
friends of course. Beyond that, if one is an athlete or a member of a club they feel pressure there
as well. In the book The Achievement Habit, Bernard Roth, founder of the Institute of design at
Stanford states that In life typically the only one keeping a scorecard of your successes and
failures is you (Roth 21). Whether it be from one s coach, instructor, or the members also involved

The Theory Of Attachment Theory Essay
B1/A2/A*1 John Bowlby s attachment theory is a positive aspect to this transition as the child are
likely to gain secure attachments with their key worker which enables them to work closely with
each other, this then allows the child to be more comfortable with any support they receive
throughout the process, however the child may become too attached to their key worker and may
face issues later when the times comes for them to separate therefore it is important for children to
spend time with other members of staff. Children can be attached to other practitioners other than
their key worker so it is important for both to communicate to ensure that the key worker knows
everything about the child and keep on track with any paperwork they have to complete about the
child and keep track of the child s progress and development. I think that Bowlby attachment theory
is important within this transition as the child going into care needs a secure attachment to
someone as the attachment to their parents will be disrupted and the child needs someone for
support especially a child of this age. The child can make an attachment to their foster carer
however this also may be difficult if the child is in temporary foster care and are removed from
care, this may cause the child distress as all the attachments they have made are being disrupted.
There are many criticism of Bowlby s theory, one of these are that Bowlby believed that Bowlby
suggested that a child would initially form only

The Effect of the Christian Catholic Religion during the Italian Renaissance on the World. The

People have difficulty absorbing long unbroken blocks of text. To make your emails and other
communications more reader friendly, break them up into shorter paragraphs, each containing a
single main idea. This will make it easier for readers to understand your point.
Don t be too casual. The Internet has given rise to a lot of casual acronyms and shortenings of
words, such as ur for your and u for you. Avoid these at all costs in business communications. They
are too casual for a business environment.
Consider your audience. Are you writing to a marketing exec, a programmer or other technical
employee, or the company president? Are you writing to one specific person or to a large audience
with different levels of technical understanding? You should always tailor your communications to
your audience. If you are writing to employees who are not technical, avoid specialized technical
words and break concepts down so that laypeople can understand.
Every email and communication you send does not have to be a work of genius. But it does need
to be easily understood. Use these tips, and your business communication is sure to

Femininity In The Sea Wolf
In Jack London s, The Sea Wolf, Humphrey Van Weyden embarks on a compelling journey that
teaches him about survival and independency. Throughout the novel readers can see how the men
aboard The Ghost fall under the dominance of the powerful and barbaric Wolf Larsen. On this ship,
Van Weyden not only discovers his masculinity
, but also realizes that people who are not self
reliant don t stand a chance in the existing world. Additionally, after the arrival of Maud Brewster,
Van Weyden is exposed to his own femininityand also learns what it feels like when another
human life depends on you. Besides being exposed to femininity, Van Weyden is also introduced to
the cruel ways that men live when they lack the presence of a female figure. He learns that cruelty
functions as a motivation to express dominance and savagery that is usually concealed in a
presence of a woman. In The Sea Wolf, Jack London uses the motif of cruelty to develop themes of
masculinity and femininity by highlighting that cruelty limits men from regarding their feminine
emotions, allows people to showcase their dominance and superiority over things, and by
exclaiming that it is a way for people to escape pain, or fnd pleasure. In the novel, London uses the
motif of cruelty to develop the theme of femininity by showcasing that cruelty limits men from
regarding their feminine emotions. Over the years, the general stereotype about women has been
that they get too emotionally involved in a situation. Through the majority of the novel, the people
aboard The Ghost are only men, thus lacking sympathy and care for another. Prior to the arrival of
Brewster, savagery and inhumanity was key to surviving on a ship full of men. Although most of
the men aboard the ship participated in revealing their masculinity others, like Van Weyden, stayed
back and observed, I cannot give the particulars of the horrible scene that followed. It was too
revolting. It turns me sick now when I think of it (92). The previous quote supports the argument
that cruelty limits men from regarding their feminine emotions because it shows that the
inhumanity Van Weyden witnessed left him fearful; he was left damaged, simply by watching. As
proven, it is clear that these inhumane

Compare And Contrast Rome And Greek Government
One thing constantly happening is this world, modern and past, is change. Ancient Greece and
Ancient Rome were no exceptions. Although these two great civilizations were similar, idealism
and conquests resulted in changes between their government, art, and religion.
Greece had three common forms of government, these were monarchy, oligarchy, and democracy.
The reason for many different types of government across Greece was due to the geography. The
ancient Greek city states were separated from each other by hilly countryside and all were near the
water. (http://ancienthistory.about.com). Because of the lack of motorboats, transportation between
the city states would have been timely and difficult. This resulted in small changes such as different
governments across the civilization.
In comparison, Rome also had a couple forms of government. Ancient Rome was a republic, but as
they conquered territory, Rome gathered part of the civilizations cultures and added it to their own.
For this reason Rome s government is a mixed Republican form ... Show more content on

The majority of their gods were from the Greek culture, but the Romans changes their names to
make it their own. The Greek Zeus became the Roman Jupiter, but he still was the god of the sky.
The Romans still worshipped similar to the Greeks where a sacrifice was offered, worshipped in
temples, but the Romans held more festivals than the Greeks did. Unlike Greece, where there was
only one main religion, in Rome at this time, other religions were starting to develop. Christianity
had begun to be preached in Rome and they were gaining congregations. The Christians often
experienced fierce persecution and took refuge in the catacombs of the cities; when discovered,
they most often chose a martyr s death. (Visual History of the World) Soon after though, a Christian
church was formed which allowed them to promote their religion

The True Human Condition In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
The True Human Condition Individuals are constantly saying that the human condition is the
pursuit of happiness. The true human condition is continual fear, and yet most people will choose
not to believe this truth. In Joseph Conrad s novel Heart of Darkness, the narrator listens as
Marlow describes an experience he had while traveling through Africa and how it changed his
perception of life s meaning. The efforts to colonize and capitalize Africa and exploit its resources
had a lasting impact on Marlow. His contact with African natives, his inspirational hero Kurtz, and
his return to a civilized environment all wrought great change in Marlow s perceptions of reality.

Two Standards Of Auditing
As accountants and auditors, we are held to, and must comply with, two standards of professional
conduct. Those standards are generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and generally
accepted auditing standards (GAAS). GAAP enforces the uniform standards for preparing and
presenting financial statements. GAAS governs the ways and means are used by public
accountants when conducting an audit. GAAS establishes the standards for field work and mandates
that sufficient evidence be found to provide reasonable assurance for issuing an audit opinion.
Liability to Clients
Please remember, as accountants we are held liable to our clients when we enter into contracts and
are hired to perform services. The liability we face can come from items such as breach of contract,
fraud and negligence. When an accountant enters into a contract, also known as an engagement,
with a client the terms of said engagement are specified. In a contract an accountant has explicit and
implicit duties. The accountant must perform all explicit duties in the contract. The implicit duties
of the contract are implied, and the accountant agrees to perform them in a proficient and
professional manner. If an accountant fails to perform the duties of the contract, he or she may be
held in breach of the contract.
An accountant may be found liable for two types of fraud. These two types are actual and
constructive. Actual fraud occurs when there is a deliberate omission or misrepresentation of a

Essay about The Time Machine by H.G. Wells
The Time Machine by H.G. Wells
Works Cited Not Included
Time traveling, a concept known to modern man as inconceivable, but in The Time Machine, by
H.G. Wells, this fathom of human fantasy has come to life. Wells entangles a unique blend of
contrasting characters, conflicts of capitalist verses laborer divisions, and foreshadowing of the
destruction of humanity to seem together this novel of visionary proportions. The Time Machine is
a bleak and sober vision of man s place in the Universe. (McConnell Pg.1581)
Well s use of characters in The Time Machine brings a heavy sense of contrast and diversity into
the story. There are five main characters around which the story revolves. Beginning with the Eloi

The Morlocks, on the other hand from the Eloi, are the laborer and harsher branch of humanity.
The Morlocks are hairy and monstrous creatures with red glowing eyes and razor sharp teeth. He
is supprised to learn of another people, the Morlocks, ugly, fearsome, and subterranean. (Molson
Pg.600) The Morlocks live under ground in a subterranean environment running machines and
underground factories. Due to their adaptations to their underground living environment, the
Morlocks only come to the upper world in the dark, for they cannot stand the glare of sunlight.
They are strange little beings whose pallid bodies are just the half bleached color of the worms
and things one sees preserved in spirit in a zoological museum. They are chinless, and in their
faces are set great lidless, pinkish grey eyes that glow of red. At night they leave their subterranean
world to hunt down Eloi for food. (McConnell Pg.3865)
The next character is the Time Traveler himself, who remains nameless throughout the whole
novel. He is an inventor with an infatuation of the future and Darwin s theory of the fourth
dimension. The Time Traveler is middle class citizen, just as Wells was in his day. The traveler is
highly concerned with the world to come and has spent years perfecting his spectacular machine. It
took two years to make, retorted the Time Traveler. (Wells Pg.14)

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Encapsulated Cell T T
CHAPTER 4 CELL ENCAPSULATION, STEM CELL THERAPY AND SCLERAL PLUG
THERAPY 4.1 CELL ENCAPSULATION
Encapsulated cell technology (ECT) is the therapeutic strategy for controlled, continuous, and long
term administration of proteins drugs in the eye.In a phase 1 trial, human ciliary neurotrophic factor
(CNTF) was delivered by retinal pigmented epithelial (RPE) cells transfected with the human CNTF
gene and sequestered within capsules that were surgically implanted into the vitreous of the
eye.The semipermeable outer membrane of the encapsulated cell implant allowed CNTF to reach
the retina and ,at the same time, sequestered the cells from the immune system. The trial indicated
that CNTF was safe for the human retina ,even one with severely compromised photoreceptors [91].
Advantages:
Long lasting and continuous expression of the given protein (avoiding repeated injections) without
genetic alteration of the host tissues
Delivery directly to the target site (limiting toxicity)
Easy retrieval of the implant when desired (making the treatment reversible)

Cinnamon Essay
I closed my eyes and sat quietly in the classroom. The slightest scent of cinnamon in the air and I
was stuck. It was like turning back the hands of time to the most beautiful Autumn season I could
remember. The aroma painted a picture in my mind that was so realistic every one of my senses
were triggered.
The first sense that my brain detected was my sense of smell. I could smell holiday baking in the
kitchen. Other things that I could smell were Big Red Gum, cinnamon buns, cinnamon pop tarts,
gingerbread, pumpkin pie, basically I could smell any fragrance associated with just plain cinnamon.

Leaves falling off the tree s and children jumping in the raked leave piles. Pumpkin patches
growing in the neighbors garden sparked a curiosity of wanting to pick them. The fall colors remain
in my mind whenever I think of autumn.
In the fall the weather is typically cool to cold, sometimes windy. That is if you are located
anywhere near Massachusetts. I remember a fall season which I spent in Washington D.C.
Outdoors playing in the park I could feel the crisp air chilling my body with each gust of wind. It
was so cold that fall that my cheeks, nose, and ears turned bright red. For this brief moment still
sitting silent in class I could feel chills up my spine just thinking of how cold it was.
Although the classroom was quiet I could hear otherwise. I let my imagination take over and I
heard all kinds of sounds. I could hear the front door squeaking as the wind blew it opened and
closed. There was noise from the tree branches rattling. Often I could hear the hooves of a horse
clattering against the pavement. The noisy neighbors leave blower sounded an annoying buzz
making it hard to concentrate from time to time. There are many different noises I hear when I
reminisce about autumn.
When I concentrated hard enough I could actually taste the foods which I had previously smelled.
Pumpkin pie is my favorite food around the fall season, it always has been. Reminiscing back to

Status And Society In The Tale Of Genji
The Tale of Genji was centered around the Heian period in Japan. The book is centered around
Genji, the son of the Emperor. The book gives glimpses of what life was like for the elites in
Japan. It displayed elite status and culture, how the Japanese value material possessions and how
it defines status in society. The book gives us an insight of Heian Japan. Status is a very
important in Heian Japan. Status gives you power and the higher up you are, the better off you
are. Status is defined by what rank one is. Rank displayed the amount of education, dignity, social
status and so on. The emperor can raise one s rank. This was seen when Genji s mother died. The

by. For example, he does not get to travel very often. According to the book, he did not often go

(66) This point is driven home when he states that the people who get to live around such beauty
are in the vast mountains (68). His men that followed him on this adventure told him of other places
that obtain beauty (68). This is a good contrast that shows the elites, though powerful, did not

Porfirio Diaz s Impact On The Country s Material...
I argue that Porfirio Diaz made contributions towards his country s material prosperity and pulled
Mexico out of it s declining state. Porfirio DГaz is often remembered as a period of social
degradation and oppression of freedoms in Mexico. His 35 year dictatorship brought about an
immense amount of hardship for the lower classes and an unfair system of wealth distribution. The
image of Porfirio DГaz as a ruthless tyrant is one almost everyone has of him post revolutionary
Mexico. However, with that being said, what are often overlooked are the giant economic and
social benefits that were brought about under his rule. Through massive improvement programs,
financial management, and the desire to see law and order, Porfirio DГaz brought much prosperity
and stability to Mexico when it needed it most.
In this paper, I hope to address how Porfirio Diaz was a horrible leader, but yet still is responsible
for the rapid development in Mexico, and the greatest factor of his rapid development was the
Mexican railroad transportation facilities. As a result of Diaz s success, railroads encouraged both
progression and underdevelopment, which secured Mexico as a state.
Leaders of Mexico have been constantly controversial and the presidency of Porfirio Diaz was no
exception. His thirty five year term as president (or dictator) converted Mexico into a modern,
industrialized state. Although presidency of Diaz has been remembered and criticized for its
suppression of rights and

I woke to the sound of my sister, Eos, making food in the kitchen. My cat, Lilac, was laying in
the sun in the windowsill. Morning Lilac. I said softly. She looked towards at the sound of my

large bird laying on the ground. The bird was pure white, but I noticed the tip of one wing was
red. I went into the kitchen and told Eos. It might be hurt. Let me get a first aid kit and I ll meet
you outside. She told me. I hurried outside near the bird. I was afraid to get close in case it might

Hawk to sit on and we went to the kitchen. I set Hawk on the table and went to finish packing my

Hawk looked at me closely. A unicorn? Do you know anything about them? He asked. Not really.

Classroom Management Reflection
Classroom management is an essential skill that is required of all teachers who wish to be
effective teachers. To have good classroom management, teachers need three skills: self efficacy,
classroom experience, and a passion for teaching. Two of these concepts go hand in hand. If a
teacher is passionate about their profession, they will have a strong sense of self efficacy. Wolff,
Jarodzka, and Boshuizen (2017) state that learning to manage a classroom and teach effectively
is complicated, and the majority of the knowledge and skill development required for effective
teaching takes place within the classroom itself (p. 295). This means that not all teachers start at
the same level. There will always be room for improvement, and teachers will continue to grow
and get better as time goes on. There are many different factors that play into good classroom
management, but by far the main three needed are self efficacy, classroom experience and
passion. When the course first began, I assumed that the concept of classroom management
would be fairly straightforward. To the untrained eye, individuals are either good or bad
teachers. If a classroom is filled with chaos, then that instructor is a bad teacher. By this logic, an
individual who handles a room full of students effortlessly is a good teacher. However, it is only
now as we near the end of the course that I realize that things are not that simple. All teachers,
whether good or bad, are capable of having good

The Ethics Of Interplanetory Space Travel
I am writing this letter to you to assess the pros and cons of interplanetory space travel. Should we
send humans to Mars? Is it right? Is it really ethical to put fourth human missions to this inhospital
planet? YES! In this letter I will be arguing the pros of why we should say YES to the next step
forward in humanity. I hope that after reading this it will assist your thoughts and consideration of
human interplanetory space travel.
Mars may remain inhospital much like the interior of the Antartic, as it stands, however we can
transform our neighbouring red planet into a hospitable checkpoint for further space travel. At this
moment in time Mars is currently uninhabited, and so, as quoted in a BBC article: this can give us
the freedom and oppotunity to artifically transform the climate, surface and atmosphere to enable
humans to live on the red planet without life support systems. Not only will this be the next step in
humanly evolution, this is also potentially the next step to saving human kind, our own species,
you want that right? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only home planet we know and have ever known as humans is Earth. However for us as a
species on this planet survival is not only tough but is also not even assured as proven by
history. A representative example of this is the dinosaur age; they were wiped out millions of
years ago by a colossal asteroid, after living on Earth for over 160 million years and now the only
thing we have left of them are their fossilized remnants. No one wants to see this happen to our
species now, do they? So to safeguard our existance for thousands or even millions of years from
now, we should at least consider putting humans on more than one

The earth planet is surrounded and by bubbles of magnetic fields while rapid changes in the earth magnetosphere were witnessed due to activities that happened on sun that caused a geomagnetic storm. With earth s magnetic fields, coronal mass ejections were mingled; as a result, the wind became mild in intensity reported in the month of March in the corresponding year (Philips, 2009). On the other hand, the geomagnetic storms have been intensified and enhanced in their frequency as magnetic fields of coronal mass ejections indulges with that of the earth that causes change of direction and leave more radiation and magnetic energy into the environment of the planet earth. The Sisters of Mercy focus on the violence of the community as well as how it surrounds school settings. Every day, a person is put into danger because of the place they live in. Liberal feminists generally work for the eradication of institutional bias and the implication of better laws. They legally challenge ideas and practices that result in women being seen as second class citizens. They do not challenge capitalism, patriarchy or any other fundamental structures of society. They advocate for transformational changes. Liberal feminists wish to achieve gender equality by working with the system rather than over throwing it , for example liberals do not call for the abolishment of the marriage institution instead they want the institution to be structured in such a way that it is not oppressive and imbalanced . In contrast Radicals are extremists and they strongly believe in a revolutionary change. • 5. Granite What type of minerals are in granite? The minerals that are in granite are Feldspar, Hornblende, Mica, Quartz, and Magnetite. These minerals are in granite because of their color, hardness, streak, luster and their break. These properties are helpful for identifying if the mineral is a part of granite or if it not a part of granite. Many minerals are apart of other rocks just like granite. Granite consists of some minerals like Hornblende and Feldspar. Hornblende is a mineral apart of granite that is black, dark green, and brown. The mineral has a streak of a white, grayish color. The reason that Hornblende is apart of granite is because a scratch test was done on the parts of the granite sample that are the same color as hornblende, the streak on those parts of the granite sample were the exact same color as the Hornblende streak, therefore Hornblende is apart of granite. Feldspar is a mineral that is also apart of granite, Feldspar is white, pink and gray. Feldspar has a streak of the color white and is considered nonmetallic. Who Is Daisy Ridley s Character In The Force Awakens When Star Wars Episode 8 star Daisy Ridley portrayed Rey in The Force Awakens, no one would have expected for the actress to be criticized for her appearance. This issue came about after an Instagram user accused the British actress for setting unrealistic expectations for young people by being too thin, according to ET. The blockbuster star was trolled with a meme of Ridley s character in The Force Awakens. The body shaming meme also had a speech bubble that reads: I can t believe the unrealistic expectations I m setting for young girls. Who cast me anyway? Don t they know real women haves curves? Other jurisdictions have enacted similar legislation to restrict the releaseof prisoners assessed to be dangerous. Do you think that dangerousness legislation of this sort is justified or unjustified? This type of legislation provides a framework whereas an application can be made to further detain a prisoner who is due to release as they are deemed to be an unacceptable risk of further offending and their further detention will protect the community (Field, 2003). Whilst it is generally accepted that the community broadly welcomes such imposing and punitive legislation, it is imperative that our disgust for these offences/offenders does not prevent us from finding the injustice on an ethical and moral basis (Wortley and Smallbone, 2003). One of the fundamental principles of the Criminal Law System is the presumption of innocence until proven guilty (McSherry, 2003). By enacting punitive legislation such as the examples given above, it has been said that it is removing this Common law right from the individual (Greig, 1995). It has also been said that it creates an exception to the general principle of law that no person shall be imprisoned unless a court comprised of Judge/Jury is convinced, beyond reasonable doubt that the person committed a very serious offence. Theatre Tradition In The Renaissance Theatre Theatre Tradition: English Renaissance Theatre The Renaissance as we all know and have learnt is defined as the cultural rebirth that occurred in Europe from the fourteenth century to the middle of the seventeenth century. The Renaissance is usually grouped with Italy and the artistic development that took place there, with the focus shifting from god or a higher deity to man, the emergence of the well renowned Leonardo Da Vinci, the idea of observing, evaluating and then coming to a conclusion were major influences in Italy and are often studied about. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But before the amphitheatres there were inn yards. The Elizabethan Inn yards were a fore runner to Elizabethan Theatres such as the Globe Theatre. Elizabethan Inns were always popular. Not only did they provide alcohol but they also provided rooms and lodgings for the Elizabethan traveller. All of these amphitheatres consisted of a large open space in which the audience would stand. This open space was called the pit and was meant for those people who couldn t afford a proper seat within the theatre itself, this would usually cost only one penny. These audience members were called the understanders as they were not as educated and high class. Behind the understanders would be three rings of galleries, one above the other, each nine or ten feet high, where the people were prepared to pay a little more for a better seat and cushions. For the upper class there were special seats, or rooms called the lords rooms which were positioned above the entrances of the stage. Even though the seats were poor for watching the play itself they were mainly to show the others their privilege. The stage itself was a proscenium arch stage, putting the scenes into a pictorial frame allowing the audience to have a clear perspective of where to look at. Restoration theatres came into existence in 1660. The picture frame stage is the basis of most modern staging and certainly the model for all cinema and television ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Towers Watson Performance Management Analysis Essay New research from Towers Watson s Performance Management Pulse Survey 2015 has confirmed that the concerns raised in these articles are shared widely in many companies around the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. Almost 65% of organisations described their performance management processes as ineffective, while only three out of 10 managers and employees reported being satisfied with these same processes. Towers Watson Media Source: Towers Watson Performance ManagementSurvey 2015 But while there is broad agreement about the ineffectiveness of many current programmes, the reasons behind the dissatisfaction are surprisingly different from the picture painted by the headlines. Rather than confirming that companies are spending too much time on developing employee performance, the survey found that 83% of companies invest fewer than six hours per year on each employee. Against a background where employees are often demanding more frequent feedback and touchpoints, there is a clear disconnect emerging. Global employee engagement data confirm how important spending time to set clear goals and objectives and discussing careers is to employees. Indeed, these frequently appear as two of the top three drivers of sustainable engagement and retention. In this most recent survey, for example, employees said they want to spend more time setting relevant goals (58%) and participating in performance feedback and career discussions (72%). These results further underscore ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Analysis Of The Article Gop Fox Circus Act By Reed... In the article GOP Fox Circus Act , Reed Richardson argues that although both the GOP and Fox have conservative political values, they are ultimately harmful to each other s agendas because of their differing political goals. Both organizations are lacking popularity in recent years so they are struggling to find new ways to gain an audience. The GOP wants to find a way to get their ideas to a wide variety of people, whereas Fox is promoting more liberal views to increase the ratings of their programs. On one hand, the GOP s reputation is hurt by the inaccuracy of Fox s reporting. On the other hand, Fox is tied down by the conservative views of the GOP, thus restraining Fox from gaining a larger audience. Journalist Reed Richardson wrote this article for The National, a liberal newspaper, in 2013, so the events and issues that he is speaking of are still relevant to this day. Due to the differences of political views between the author and the subject matter, there is plenty of room for biased statements and opinions. Does Richardson provide enough evidence of the harmful effects of the Fox and GOP relationship? Richardson clearly and meticulously establishes the problems that both organizations face in the pursuit of their political goals with the use of statistics, reliable sources, and thorough evaluation of events; however Richardson constantly provides the reader with a biased argument when discussing the current state of Fox. Richardson successfully portrays the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Benefits of group living include improved reproductive success, increased foraging success, and improved predation survival (Hamilton, 1971; Reluga and Viscido, 2005). Social behaviours evolve when the benefits of group living outweigh the costs (Fleagle, 2013). Predation risk is lowered in social groups by confusing the predator so the predator s success decreases (Hall et al., 1986; Smith and Warburton, 1992), by providing improved vigilance more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Group living in animals can be an act of selfish behavior, one of the reasons being the reduced risk of predation (Morrell and James, 2008). Species that show this behaviour include sticklebacks (Krause and Tegeder, 1994), banded killifish (Hoare et al., 2004), toad tadpoles (Watt et al., 1997; Spieler and Linsenmair, 1999) and ocean skaters (Foster and Treherne, 1981). By keeping close to others and forming a group, an animal can benefit from collective vigilance, predator confusion, and the dilution risk, all which reduce the chance of predation to that individual (Morrell and James, 2008; Krause and Ruxton, 2002). Selfish herd theory The selfish herd theory was developed by Hamilton and is widely excepted as a explanation for the selfish grouping of animals (Morrell and James, 2008). The Selfish herd theory states that individuals within a population attempt to reduce their predation risk by putting other individuals between themselves and predators resulting in groups of animals (Hamilton, 1971). Hamilton s proposed theory contrasted the hypothesis that evolution of such social behaviour was based on mutual benefits to the population (Hamilton, 1971). An animal may join a group for its own selfish reasons, seeking to push the risk of being a victim of predation onto other members (Breed and Moore, 2011). In groups, predation risk is greatest on the outside edge and lower towards the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. School Programs For Empowering The Youth After School Programs for Empowering the Youth The wide spectrum of Los Angeles County has as much variety as tourist sites, as told by the media on one end. However, on the other end, unfortunately Los Angeles County also consists of highly disorganized cities and high crime areas. Cities like Huntington Park and Compton are considered deviant places as described by Siegel (2011) because they are poor, densely populated, and highly transient neighborhoods (p. 71). Therefore, making these communities at higher risk for engaging in crime. Also, since the majority of parents living in these communities are working parents, in which most of them leave their children without parental or guardian supervision during the danger zone, which consist of after school hours from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. During this time children are unsafe and have a high possibility to engage in drugs and/ or participate in gang activity. Thus, it is important for local schools to provide the community with quality after school programs since they deliver a safe environment where the youth have the ability to learn a variety of skills and more importantly stay out of trouble. However, there is greater availability of after school programs for K 8 students, leaving high school students at a disadvantage. Thus, there is a greater need for after school programs to be implemented in high schools since this is the age group that is most vulnerable to crime activity, especially teenage males. However, indecision itself is not actually such an intelligible term, but rather an overly complex one that dips into the intricate nature of the human mindset. This becomes even more accurate when the act of indecisiveness is paired with compelling circumstances. Oftentimes human beings are required to act irrationally because their circumstances force them to do so. Our opinions and actions seem justifiable, yet they may also come across as deceitful and immoral. However, upon further evaluation, both words address different aspects of society itself. Citizenship can be understood as certain obligations, liberties, and privileges embodied by an individual; and civic involvement is the activities associated with those responsibilities. The following definition summarizes the broader scope of citizenshipand civic involvement assumed in A Short History of Progress by Ronald Wright. In this book, Wright describes the progress of citizenship, and the perception that mankind gradually improves over time. Wright refutes this idea describing it as a progress trap . These conditions cause global temperature increase, ocean acidification, rising sea levels, health problems due to pollution, and the destruction of ecosystems (climate.nasa.gov). Considering these issues, alternative energysources are something that can be used to help combat harmful fossil fuels and lessen humanity s Carbon footprint (the amount of carbon dioxide and other carbon compounds emitted due to the consumption of fossil fuels by a person, group, etc.). There are multiple alternative and renewable energy sources available on the market today. Some of these include: solar panels, geothermal systems, and wind turbines; However, another alternative energy source could be harvesting lightning. This pollution has put the watershed on the impaired waters list for the state of Iowa. The impaired waters list is a comprehensive list of every waterway in a state that has a contamination problem according to EPA regulations (insert source for impaired waters explanation EPA regulations). Written in the early 2000s, Marjane Satrapi s coming of age story about herself as a young girl living in Iran during the Iran Revolution, otherwise known as Persepolis, includes a vast majority of themes including warfare, religion, freedom versus confinement, and finally, femininity. One of the major themes that really stuck out was feminism and women oppression. The Viewer Is The Witness In Night And Fog How the Viewer is the Witness in Night and Fog Alain Resnais Night and Fog is a Holocaust documentary shot in 1955 that served as a lens into the hellish landscape of the Holocaust. It was shot with footage of the Holocaust combined with a voiceover narration that provides a detailed look into the horrors of the Holocaust. The filmproved to be a success but it struggled through censorship due to its inherent gruesome nature. This is because the film uses various techniques in such a way that the viewer of the film feel that they themselves have become witnesses of these tragedies, as opposed to just being a viewer of a documentary about the Holocaust, thus making the viewer experience of the film much more impactful. Traditional documentaries use interviews and first hand witness accounts to tell the story, but Night and Fog does not. It presents everything objectively and lets the powerful, fast paced cinematography and narration tell the story. Another technique used is the rapid juxtaposition shots from the past and present, thus giving the film a sense of timelessness. At home, one listens to their parents and normally has a very structured life. In college, parents make one create a structured life of their own. One of the scariest things for a college student is failure during this change in their life. Jim Rohn reminds one, Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change. The fear of being on your own and having to take initiative can be overwhelming and one may fail, but change is a way to reach success. For a college student to successfully begin life on their own requires self esteem, creation of self image, and self improvement. While many feel that failure is an indication in lack of self improvement, Roth the author of The Achievement Habit, believes failure is a validating sign of improvement. When one begins college, they feel the pressure in many aspects of life. First, they feel pressure from their parents to always go to class, get good grades, keep their dorm clean, and make new friends of course. Beyond that, if one is an athlete or a member of a club they feel pressure there as well. The Theory Of Attachment Theory Essay B1/A2/A*1 John Bowlby s attachment theory is a positive aspect to this transition as the child are likely to gain secure attachments with their key worker which enables them to work closely with each other, this then allows the child to be more comfortable with any support they receive throughout the process, however the child may become too attached to their key worker and may face issues later when the times comes for them to separate therefore it is important for children to spend time with other members of staff. Children can be attached to other practitioners other than their key worker so it is important for both to communicate to ensure that the key worker knows everything about the child and keep on track with any paperwork they have to complete about the child and keep track of the child s progress and development. I think that Bowlby attachment theory is important within this transition as the child going into care needs a secure attachment to someone as the attachment to their parents will be disrupted and the child needs someone for support especially a child of this age. The child can make an attachment to their foster carer however this also may be difficult if the child is in temporary foster care and are removed from care, this may cause the child distress as all the attachments they have made are being disrupted. Throughout the novel readers can see how the men aboard The Ghost fall under the dominance of the powerful and barbaric Wolf Larsen. On this ship, Van Weyden not only discovers his masculinity , but also realizes that people who are not self reliant don t stand a chance in the existing world. Additionally, after the arrival of Maud Brewster, Van Weyden is exposed to his own femininityand also learns what it feels like when another human life depends on you. Besides being exposed to femininity, Van Weyden is also introduced to the cruel ways that men live when they lack the presence of a female figure. He learns that cruelty functions as a motivation to express dominance and savagery that is usually concealed in a presence of a woman. In The Sea Wolf, Jack London uses the motif of cruelty to develop themes of masculinity and femininity by highlighting that cruelty limits men from regarding their feminine emotions, allows people to showcase their dominance and superiority over things, and by exclaiming that it is a way for people to escape pain, or fnd pleasure. In the novel, London uses the motif of cruelty to develop the theme of femininity by showcasing that cruelty limits men from regarding their feminine emotions. Over the years, the general stereotype about women has been that they get too emotionally involved in a situation. Through the majority of the novel, the people aboard The Ghost are only men, thus lacking sympathy and care for another. Prior to the arrival of Brewster, savagery and inhumanity was key to surviving on a ship full of men. Although most of the men aboard the ship participated in revealing their masculinity others, like Van Weyden, stayed back and observed, I cannot give the particulars of the horrible scene that followed. It was too revolting. It turns me sick now when I think of it (92). Although these two great civilizations were similar, idealism and conquests resulted in changes between their government, art, and religion. My name is Hawk. The eagle said. I am Enid. And this is my sister, Eos. I said. It is a good thing my sister saw you from her window. Eos said. It was really my cat who meowed. She never meows unless it is important. I said. Would you like to come into the house for a drink or some meat? Eos asked. Yes, please. Hawk replied. I held out my arm for Hawk to sit on and we went to the kitchen. I set Hawk on the table and went to finish packing my bag. Going on a trip, huh? Hawk asked. Yeah. I m going to look for something. A unicorn. I said. Hawk looked at me closely. A unicorn? Do you know anything about them? He asked. Not really. I know they are very fast and proud creatures. I said. Yes, but did you know they are also shy to humans? Hawk asked. I shook my head. Unicorns are... picky about who they show themselves to. For one thing, if you re not a virgin, you might as well not look for a unicorn. They only approach those who are pure and kind. Hawk said, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Classroom Management Reflection Classroom management is an essential skill that is required of all teachers who wish to be effective teachers. To have good classroom management, teachers need three skills: self efficacy, classroom experience, and a passion for teaching. Two of these concepts go hand in hand. If a teacher is passionate about their profession, they will have a strong sense of self efficacy. Wolff, Jarodzka, and Boshuizen (2017) state that learning to manage a classroom and teach effectively is complicated, and the majority of the knowledge and skill development required for effective teaching takes place within the classroom itself (p. 295). This means that not all teachers start at the same level. There will always be room for improvement, and teachers will continue to grow and get better as time goes on. There are many different factors that play into good classroom management, but by far the main three needed are self efficacy, classroom experience and passion. When the course first began, I assumed that the concept of classroom management would be fairly straightforward. To the untrained eye, individuals are either good or bad teachers. If a classroom is filled with chaos, then that instructor is a bad teacher. By this logic, an individual who handles a room full of students effortlessly is a good teacher. However, it is only now as we near the end of the course that I realize that things are not that simple. All teachers, whether good or bad, are capable of having good ... • 55. The Ethics Of Interplanetory Space Travel I am writing this letter to you to assess the pros and cons of interplanetory space travel. Should we send humans to Mars? Is it right? Is it really ethical to put fourth human missions to this inhospital planet? YES! In this letter I will be arguing the pros of why we should say YES to the next step forward in humanity. I hope that after reading this it will assist your thoughts and consideration of human interplanetory space travel. Mars may remain inhospital much like the interior of the Antartic, as it stands, however we can transform our neighbouring red planet into a hospitable checkpoint for further space travel. At this moment in time Mars is currently uninhabited, and so, as quoted in a BBC article: this can give us the freedom and oppotunity to artifically transform the climate, surface and atmosphere to enable humans to live on the red planet without life support systems. Not only will this be the next step in humanly evolution, this is also potentially the next step to saving human kind, our own species, you want that right? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only home planet we know and have ever known as humans is Earth. However for us as a species on this planet survival is not only tough but is also not even assured as proven by history. A representative example of this is the dinosaur age; they were wiped out millions of years ago by a colossal asteroid, after living on Earth for over 160 million years and now the only thing we have left of them are their fossilized remnants. No one wants to see this happen to our species now, do they? So to safeguard our existance for thousands or even millions of years from now, we should at least consider putting humans on more than one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
