Family Guy Analysis
Imagine living a whole life as an American, accustomed to Caucasian practices, confident on the
stability of your home and career and often bragging patriotically. Then your boss decides to have an
inspection, laying off immigrant employees. Going to your mother to ask for your birth certificate,
you find out you were actually born in Mexico. You get laid off and have to work as a servant for your
wife s rich father. This was the case for Peter Griffen, the father and protagonist in the TV series called
Family Guy. While working for Carter Pewterschmidt, his father in law, he meets another immigrant
employee who helps him around the mansion and gives him some insight on his life. Overall, the
episode was a great example of one s view of the American Dream. Its ideas were also very similar to
claims made by an author regarding the American Dream. Tim Roemer, author of America remains the
world s beacon of success , argues that America is still prosperous and that, based on his trip overseas,
foreigners still view the U.S as a land of opportunity. Both Roemer s article and the specified episode
of Family Guy serve to demonstrate how people outside of the US still admire the country as a whole,
believe America is the goal for studying and that although other countries are facing devastating
challenges, people can still prosper in the U.S.
Initially, Tim Roemer explains foreign views of the United States, which contributes to his first
argument that the U.S is still admired

Attraction And Physical Attraction
The term attraction will refer to a quality or feature in which it summons interest, liking or desire
(Webster 2017). However, this essay will challenge why numerous people are more attractive than
others. A new study claims that men who are long distance runners are more attractive in light of the
fact that they have greater levels of testosterone which makes them all the more masculine and
prolific. Firstly, this essay will investigate physical attractions. Secondly, it will discuss the non
physical attractions and Finally, Biological and Social variables. This essay will then be followed by a
discussion about the significance in relation to these three points.
Though there are many theories behind why some individuals are more attractive than others, the idea
of physical attraction is open for interpretation as it is expected to assist in answering the question of
why most people are attracted to the stereotypical concept of blue eyes and blonde hair. Knapton
(2015) states that the blonde hair and blue eye mixture originated in Caucasians are thought to have
developed among northern European tribes around approximately 11,000 years prior. However, a
recent report which undertook a survey to decide the most beautiful women in the world and Brunettes
were chosen. Physical attractiveness is an unpleasant variable. Cunningham (1986) states that the
investigation of 2 quasi experiments demonstrates the relation between specific adult female facial
features and the attraction,

Case Against Flag Desecration
On August 22nd, 1984 Gregory Lee Johnson was arrested on the grounds of desecrating the American
flag in downtown Dallas, Texas. His trial was held roughly three months later, where Johnson was
then convicted of the crime, sentenced to one year in prison, and forced to pay a fine (Goldstein 37).
After a series of appeal attempts, the decision of Johnson s case was finally reviewed by the Texas
Court of Appeals in 1988 and was then overturned. The court of appeals said that Johnson s actions
were protected by his 1st amendment right to freedom of speech. Texas then took that ruling to the
Supreme Court where they ruled again in Johnson s favor saying that Texas law against flag
desecration was unconstitutional and violated first amendment rights. ... Show more content on

Skemp and Weinberg brought Johnson s case before the appeals court on September 26th where they
continued to argue that Johnson s prosecution was in violation of the First Amendment and that since
his actions were symbolic and committed during a political protest that it was acceptable (Goldstein
38). The attorneys also stated the Johnson s flag burning met the test of expression set out by the O
Brien test in Supreme Court case United States v. O Brien of 1967. The test set a number of guidelines
that should be used to decide whether a law that prohibits free speech violates the First Amendment.
The test said that the law in question must be: within the constitutional power of the government to
enact, further an important or substantial government interest and that interest must be unrelated to the
suppression of speech and prohibit no more speech than is essential to further the said interest
(Goldstein 25). John D. Nation responded for Texas saying that Johnson created and explosive
situation by burning the flag, with people angry and yelling, and the demonstration could have easily
led to a physical reaction from those that were nearby and felt offended or opposed. Nation also said
there was a need to preserve our country s flag as a symbol of national unity and strength. Additionally
he argued that burning the flag harmed a person s sense of national identity and that people
assumingly link that with what is represented by the flag and so destroying it could put Johnson in
danger (Goldstein 52). On January 23, 1986, Judge John Vance ruled to uphold Johnson s conviction
on the grounds that it complied with the O Brien test and that the law was to protect Texas interest in
preventing breaches of the peace. On February 7th Johnson then

Critical Thinking Skills Analysis
Start a conversation by asking children about their day and show them your interest in their daily
activities, so they will likely share any issues or concerns. My older son was talkative and did not have
any problems talking about his likes and dislikes. However, my younger son, always really quiet, had
difficulty starting a conversation. I remember one day asking him what happened at school and he had
nothing to say. He says, Mom, what do people talk about? I said that anything that happened at school,
interactions with friends, or even ask questions. An hour or so later, he says. I just won the spelling
bee at school today. I could not believe it. He had won the Spelling Bee for the whole school,
including the 5th graders (he was a 4th grader.) and he would have to represent the whole school at a
convention center with all the winners of the other schools in our county. He did not think this was a
big deal and did not even think about sharing this great accomplishment. He had the tendency to give
a one word answer and not elaborate on a topic, so it was vital to work with him until he was able to
have full conversations with the family. Critical thinking skills Such skills ... Show more content on

Kiki Kannibal The Girl Who Played With Fire
Technology and Society
If every threatening behavior could be prevented reducing criminal activity, there would be less
suicide, high school shootings, burglary, identity theft, and other common crimes today. The internet is
a technology created to make people s lives better, allowing the public to express themselves, share
their thoughts, and connect with old friends without effort. However society, as with all technology,
has found negative ways to misuse the internet. In Kiki Kannibal: The Girl Who Played With Fire
Sabrina Rubin Erdely writes about a young girl named Kirsten Kiki Ostrenga. At fourteen Kristen
faced countless dangers due to her fame as Kiki Kannibal , an online brash and outrageous persona
she created as a way of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Replacing or suspending the new innovations that scientists are making or have made in the past is
inconceivable, however, society can create an Online Crime Prevention Organization (OCPO) to
monitor the internet. In Kiki Kannibal, one of her major threats was her cyber bullies; she was
constantly tormented and persecuted by strangers online. Kiki was also unable to defend herself or
validate her offenders; she had no help from law enforcement, adults around her, and there was
nothing or no one she could go to with the abuse which made her bullies invincible while Kiki and her
family were left helpless. Erdely mentions in her essay that Kiki fought back by embracing her
outsider status, chopping her long hair and dyeing it pink. She remade herself into a scene queen,
(Erdely). Singer mentions in his essay that Technological breakthroughs have made it simple to
collect, store, and disseminate data on individuals, corporations, and even the government (Singer
462). As people are becoming more knowledgeable every day, scientists are creating new innovations
that are also helping criminals now, they are more discreet and have found new ways to practice
criminal activities through the internet. An Online Crime prevention Organization s main goal is to
stop or prevent online crime with any action that must be taken indefinitely; OCPO would be able to
access and collect information from anyone who is seen as a possible threat by verifying the online
user through a thumbprint or eye scan before the person goes online. With an online system created by
the OCPO, anyone who believes that a person is practicing criminal activities such as cyber bullying,
can anonymously flag a person with proof of the action, sending the information to the OCPO who
will then begin to investigate the person s online history. With restrictions, the

Application Virtualization For A Virtual Machine Monitor (...
1. Introduction
Virtualization is a term used to describe technology that uses abstraction to instruct a guest operating
system, data storage, or network device to use underlying shared hardware or software as described by
Pearce et al. [1]. Abstraction is managed at a software layer known as a virtual machine monitor
(VMM) or hypervisor. The VMM or hypervisor emulates hardware to guest operating systems and
applications, which includes core processor unit (CPU), memory, input/output (I/O), and network
traffic [1, pp.2]. There are different areas of virtualization, which include server virtualization,
application virtualization, network virtualization, storage virtualization, and desktop virtualization [1,
pp.8]. The branching out of virtualization into different areas displays the rapid growth of this
technology.
The VMM and hypervisor software layer provides security challenges that should be addressed in
order to protect resources and data within virtualization. For example, this additional layer of
technology opens up new paths which an attacker can use to break into and interrupt a system or
network. The VMM can also be a single point of failure in a virtualized environment [1, pp. 33]. If the
VMM is compromised, then the virtual environment managed by the VMM could be compromised as
well.
The primary focus of this literature review will be physical hosts, which are VMMs and hypervisors
managing a virtualization environment. The Important Ideas section will

The Battle Of Gettysburg During The Civil War
There are many instances in which Family members fought on opposing sides of the war, for example:
the Culp Family from Pennsylvania, Crittenden Family from Kentucky. Even President Lincoln s wife
had members of her family that fought on opposing sides. This is the perfect example of people
fighting for their own cause not just because there was a line drawn on a map. Before the Battle of
Gettysburg even started many soldiers had fought side by side in multiple battles as US Soldiers,
where many friendships were born. Once the Confederacy was established in 1861 many soldiers
began to choose sides based on where they were from. Southerners returned back to their homes to
fight for the Confederacy while others regardless where they were from stayed to fight for the Union
even if it was against their family s beliefs or even their own for that fact because they were loyal the
Union.
There were five generations of the Culp Family that lived in the small town of Gettysburg during the
time of the battle. This location was known to many as Culp s Hill, the prominent landmark in which
played a major role during the fight. Henry Culp was the current owner of the farm and his brother
Peter Jr. gave away General Buford position at the Seminary building away to the Confederate Army.
While there are many variations of the family s involvement, but the most common events of Wesley
Culp and William Culp are without question. Wesley was a harness maker that moved to Virginia for

Art Education For Public Schools Persuasive Slice
Outline: Art Education for Public Schools Persuasive Slice Brain experimentation confirmation is one
of the several proofs education as well as commitment in fine arts is constructive for a child s
educational process. Beginning from an improved clarity and creativity in being able create ideas to
increased awareness in mind, body, voice, arts education has had a tremendous impact. In its several
ways, it supports the advancement of the whole child along with preparation of a life filled with
opportunities for learning and delight. Art education is sadly interpreted as more of a luxury rather
than a must to a child s education; although research has proved that simple, creative activities serve
as essential building blocks for a student s future development. In addition, the fine arts provide
students non academic aid such as an increase in self esteem, motivation, improved emotional
expression and appreciation in diversity. Students cherish that their voice and interests are listened to
and understood by others. Children gave form to their feelings through drawing and paintings. All
fibers are highly important for a young mind, so why is art not a part of a student s curriculum? In
these past few years, there has been big concern between educators in the relationship in arts based
learning and human development. The arts construct neural systems building a variety of profits
running between fine motor skills to creativity and enhanced emotional balance. Gaining

The Genocide Of The Cambodian Genocide
Don t Smile, Don t Laugh, Don t Shed a Tear According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, genocide is
defined as the deliberate killing of people who belong to a particular racial, political or cultural group.
When most people think of the word genocide, often the Holocaust comes to mind. What the world
seems to fail to realize is that many genocides, just as tragic have and continue to occur. The
Cambodian Genocide is an important event to understand and research because it is one of the lesser
known genocides and can be analyzed for future genocide prevention.
Background
Cambodia is a small country of Southeast Asia, less than half the size of the state of California ( World
Without Genocide: Cambodian Genocide ). The Cambodian government in the mid 1970 s was
unstable as Lon Nol, the Cambodian prime minister, and his forces were being stretched dealing with
conflicts of Vietnamese communists, and a rising group of Cambodian communists called the Khmer
Rouge Party. (Peace Pledge Union) As the government grew weaker and began to loose control, The
Khmer Rouge Party overthrew the country. They began killing for their cause in 1975. The Khmer
Rouge Party, under the rule of a man called Pol Pot, enforced a new way of life following values and
rules similar to Maoist Communism ( World Without Genocide: Cambodian Genocide ). The Khmer
Party attempted, in simplistic terms, to nationally centralize the middle or farming class of Cambodia (

Summary Of The Rich Man Scene
The Rich Man scene occurs in Section B of Part 2 of Mark, just after Jesus blesses little children by
Him taking the children and blessing them in His arms and by saying I assure you that whoever does
not receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter the Kingdom of God (10:15). Just after
Jesus turns around and said to his disciples How hard it will be for rich people to enter the Kingdom
of God! (10:23), Jesus speaks to them about his death the third time and how he will be handed over to
the chief priests and condemned to death, but will rise again.
As to the genre of this periscope, it is much like the story before it 10:13 16, where the children will
enter the Kingdom of God without much effort. What Jesus is trying to tell us and his disciples is that
one can only enter the kingdom like a child, empty handed and trusting, open to growth and malleable.
(J.A. Draper) The structure of the story is V. 17 18 Jesus starts his journey again and a man coming up
to him; vv. 20 22 dialogue between the man and Jesus; v. 23 Jesus explains to the disciples.
Verse by Verse Analysis
V. 17 Good Teacher as soon as Jesus left the house where he blessed the children (10:13 16), Jesus is
confronted by a man who kneels at his feet right away and asks Good Teacher, what must I do to
receive eternal life? (10:17).This is just as the leper did in (1:40), but in this case the man is not asking
for healing or purification but for a way to eternal life. (Camille Focant)

Asian-American Superhero Analysis
Essays, Not Rants! 244: An Asian American Superhero
I wasn t sure how I felt about Silk when she first showed up in the Spider Man comics, but it was
when she got her own series and a narrative no longer intrinsically tied to Peter Parker that she really
came into her own.
But on the on the one hand, yeah, another webslinging spider themed hero? We ve already got a lot
with Peter Parker, Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, and Miguel O Hara in books of their own; do we need
one more? The thing is, Silk brings with it like each of the other spider books a unique story and
character.
Obviously, there s Silk/Cindy Moon herself. One of the things that hooked me into the book is
something somewhat shallow but terribly important: Cindy is Korean American. Yes, I know, I m
ranting about diversity again. But listen. There are precious few Asian superheroes, even less so with
their own books. There will always be a thrill in getting to see someone who looks like you
represented.
But Cindy s Asian ness isn t just a lip service done through line art and surname, the story in Silk
features distinctly Asian elements.
So quick recap, Cindy got bitten by the same spider that gave Peter Parker his powers, but due to some

comics. It s not a sign of weakness, but rather a way for Cindy to work out anger issues and the
newfound stress of getting used to a modern life (and being a superhero). It s a profound addition that
subtly destigmatizes getting help while allowing space in Cindy s life to focus on her family without

God s Fourth Speech With Noah
Introduction
God s fourth speech with Noah (9:1 17) is a cluster of three sub speeches, which will be further
explored in this analysis. Similar aspects of Genesis 1 are echoed; a new cosmic order is installed,
initiating a pre creation period. God blesses the humans and commissions them to take domination
over all creatures. This passage is of great importance to not just the Genesis story but also the Old
Testament as a whole. I will further depict central meanings throughout the passage, as well as
investigate literary aspects in order to grasp a greater understanding of this chapter.
Covenants are the promise and obligation between two or more people. At the beginning of this
chapter in the Genesis, the Covenant between God and Noah ... Show more content on

(5:1 9:29) The opening line Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth (Ge 9:1) establishes a

The Noahic covenant is the covenant that God made with Noah after he left the ark, sealed with a

is one of the most well known stories from the Old Testament. In some of its artistic representations, it
is characterised as a story of an old man who takes pairs of animals onto an ark to ride out an
incredible flood, safely coming to rest as a rainbow appears in the sky. Whilst the essence of this is
recorded in the Genesis account of the Flood, the biblical narrative is much more than this unusual
story. It is a narrative written in the context of an Israelite community, striving to understand and
interpret the way their God works in and through both humanity and the world God has created for all.

Spirituality is derived from the Latin word spiritus, spirit, the essential part of the person which
controls the mind and the mind controls the body. Thus the spirit is the vital life force which motivate
people and influence ones life, health behavior and relationships (Baldacchino Draper, 2001). She also
stated that spirituality is the mainstream of life which unifies all aspects of the human being.
Spirituality applies to both believers and non believers, including the presence of diverse cultural
beliefs (Baldacchino Draper, 2001). Culliford stated that : In times of emotional stress, physical
illness, loss, bereavement and death human beings tend to find comfort, peace, inspiration, reverence
and meaning by focusing on their spirituality whether they believe in God or not (Culliford, 2002). In
a study conducted by Tuck and Thingajana the meaning of spirituality was voiced by person living
with HIV disease and healthy adults. The definitions voiced by the HIV patients were that Spirituality
is relating and believing in God, who is always present. It is perceived as being guided or helped or
being inspired or giving unto. Spirituality includes the process of journeying, discovering and
centering and is outwardly expressed (Tuck Thinganjana, 2007). The definitions of Spirituality
expressed by the healthy individuals were that: Spirituality is a strongly held belief and a

The Security Of Database System
The Security Of Database
Introduction
In the contemporary times, it has been widely believed that the huge computer network platform is
considered to be extremely beneficial in terms of making the entire community more informative
(Martínez, et al, 2013). The technology of database has created a leading position for itself in the
computing environment. However, due to this drastic increase in the use of computer network
systems, it has been widely observed that there has been an aggravation in the aspects of network
intrusion and identity theft. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save

Thesis Statement
The aspect of computer database security is aggravating with the increase in intense influence of
technology in our routine lives. The paper aims to present some key security threats and the effective
solutions in order to counter such threats that are largely adopted by the companies in today s world.
Various Types of Attacks on the Computer Network System
After the violation of several layers of protection, it has been observed that the attacker or hacker may
want to perform the below listed attacks.
Direct Attacks
This type of attack specifically means that the targeted data or sensitive information is attacked
directly. Due to this, it has been observed that these targeted attacks are considered to be extremely
obvious and they are successful only in the condition if the database is not protected by any sort of
protection mechanism (Ahmad, et al, 2011). In case there is any protection system installed at the
gateway, this type of attack is failed and the attacker proceeds to the next.
Indirect Attacks
In this type of attack, the attack is not aimed directly at the data or information, which is targeted.
Rather, in an indirect attack, information about the target and from the target is achieved through
various intermediate objects. Here, attackers usually use combination of keys as well as queries. Some
of them are even used for the purpose of misdirecting and cheating the secure mechanism of database
security (Ambler, 2012). These are

Cultural Conflict In America
A current cultural conflict taking place in America today is religious. Many Americans discriminate
against the Islamic faith and there have been countless acts of mistreatment of Muslims in the work
place, at school, in public, and in the media. Negative feelings and acts toward Muslims have become
so prevalent that in 1991 the Runnymede Trust Report coined a term for it. The report defined the
unfounded hostility toward Muslims, and therefore fear or dislike of all or most Muslims as
Islamophobia (Defining Islamophobia ). There has always been some religious cultural conflict with
Muslims in the United States, but since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, conflict has escalated significantly.

Many Muslims are Arab and for that reason many people automatically associate Arab, no matter what
their religion, with Islam and violence. Racism is the belief that one racial group is innately superior to
another (Samovar 238). This belief can be expressed in a few different ways. Intense racism is the
belief that all members of a group are inferior (M. Hu, personal communications, November 18th,
2015). Racism can also be symbolic, which entails the belief that the out group interferes with the
culture. This is a worry that some Americans have because they irrationally fear that Muslims are
trying to change the country. Tokenism is a third type of expressing racism and is when people do not
admit that they are racist and even try to act evenly. The final expression of racism is termed arm s
length and is when an individual is nice to the other group of people in some setting, but not others.
Tokenism and arms length racism are probably the most frequently seen in the United States. Many
Americans try to act like that do not view Muslims differently but when you observe their interacts or
hear them speak about Muslims their beliefs tend to be discriminatory or prejudice. There are a few
ways to avoid racism. The first is to be honest with to and analyze your thoughts and belief with a
critical eye to determine if you hold any racist views (Samovar 239).

Assess the importance of nationalism to the Vietnamese up to 1965. A clear desire for nationalism and
self nationalism in Vietnam was evident as early as the 15th century, when historian Nguyen Trai
stated although we have been at times strong, and at times weak, we have always been Vietnamese
and this will never change. The importance and significance of nationalism and establishing a sense of
self determination was of vital concernment to the Vietnamese, in both the North and South of the
country. The Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North) and the Republic of Vietnam (South) were both
driving forces in the ambition of self determination and their established sense of nationalism

Ho Chi Minh used the analogy of the elephant and the tiger frequently during his presidency. Minh
applied this theory to the war between the Vietnamese and French, claiming that the French were the
elephants and the Vietminh troops were tigers, reinforcing the guerrilla warfare tactics that the
Vietminh used to great success. Minh stated that time and resources were not of issue, the war was a
fight for nationalism and self determination, regardless of the duration of the war or the amount of
troops and resources lost, the Vietnamese would come out as victors. Ho Chi Minh said at a speech in
Paris in 1946 you can kill 10 of our men for every one we kill of yours, but even at those odds, you
will lose and we will win and we have a secret weapon, don t smile when I tell you this, our secret
weapon is nationalism which emphasizes the desire and desperation the North Vietnam were willing to
go to in order to self determine. The battle at Dien Bien Phu in 1954 was the culmination of the First
Indochina War and as a result of North Vietnam s victory, French forces left and a sense of nationalism
was prevalent. The Vietnamese were at war with the French due to the Communist forces in the North
of Vietnam desiring the expulsion of French forces and colonisation to promote nationalism and self
determination. In March 1954, General Giap, the principal commander of the Vietminh army at the

Essay On Pascal s Wager
In this essay I will discuss the ontological problem of the existence of God and discuss Pascal s Wager
and how it solves the issue. The problem with the proof of the existence of God is that it is not
something we will know for sure until our dying day. We can speculate and bet on his existence and
feel his presence but at this point it is just that, only a bet. This wager is famous for opening up minds
to look at the problem in a bigger picture. The problem with the existence of God is not in the answer
but instead in the question. Pascal is responsible for refocusing this discussion on God to the bigger
problem of the existential context of human life. In a way this can all be broken down to very black
and white terms Either God is or he is not. But upon looking further we realize that this is a much
bigger issue with many grey areas than something as simple as is or is not . Pascal spends much of his
argument refocusing discussion and putting appropriate context on different situations. The question
of God is a much more pressing question in relation to human mortality. We are much more inclined to
draw toward or push away from faith when we are facing unfavorable situations out of our control. We
tend to look harder at the meaning of life and our moral values when we are found staring death

He named this new discovery X Ray because x is the term for an unknown number in mathematics. It
was later called Roentgen Rays although changed back to X Ray . With his new discovery, he found
that the rays would travel through human tissue, but leave a shadow of bone and metal behind. One of
his first experiments was on his wife Bertha s hand with a ring on her finger in 1895. Medical X rays
work by letting fast moving electrons come to a sudden stop on a metal plate. They show up different
on the radiograph because of different absorption rates of different material. The calcium in bones
absorb the most x rays so they appear white on a radiograph, or the film x rays are displayed on,
although other things like tissue, fat and skin absorb it less so they appear grey. Air absorbs the least x
rays so this is why lungs look completely black on a radiograph. Todays x ray machines are much
faster, more efficient and produce much less harmful radiation. Excessive exposure to x rays can be
dangerous but in modern medicine doctors are able to keep us safe with their knowledge on this. The
original x ray machine took 90 minutes and produced 1500 times the radiation as modern x rays.
Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen has made a huge impact on todays technology. It s obvious to see that
inventing the x ray is a big deal, but this was actually a very big accomplishment and made a lot of
new things possible. Without the x ray our ability in the medical world would be

Comparison Of Heroism In The Hero With A Thousand Faces
In The Hero with a Thousand Faces , the author explores a variety of myths and elucidates the
fundamental structure that most of them share. In most cases, the heroes adopt the true picture of
heroism, where the heroic personalities make painful personal sacrifices in order to save situations that
are dear to them. In addition, most heroic figure appears humbled by the respect accorded to them by
the society and always acts in a selfless manner to defend the society. However, there are a few
instances when the heroes assume a status way above average humans and using that status to hoard
all the social benefits for themselves. This is the argument that Joseph Campbell puts forward
regarding Minotaur, the tyrant monster. According to literature, Minotaur was a monster that had quite
intimidating body, half of it man and half of it a bull. The monster basically personified ego unlike
typical monsters that showed humility and self annihilation. The only food that the monster ate was
human flesh and none of the strongest heroes would dare challenge him. It is the reason why fourteen
children would be sent to it every year from Greece to the Island of Crete, where it lived. The people
believed that this was the only way to prevent the society from experiencing some of the worst
calamities.
Campbell s argument that Minotaur was a typical tyrant monster is very true. His story correlates with
that of Sherlock in the Merchant of Venice. In this story, Sherlock appeared to be using

Zen and the Buddhist Tradition 1. The Eightfold Path (p. 359) The Eightfold Path consists of eight
components that lead to the dissolution of both of dissatisfaction, as well as cravings. The Eightfold
Path leads to a way of living that is mindful, and can lead to enlightenment. The Eightfold Path can be

the third is wisdom. Each of these aspects is essential to therapy, and none comes without practice.

My Meme Speech
For as long as I can remember, My Meme has been one of the most intelligent and godly people I
know. She and my Pawpaw helped my single mother raise me and my two sisters. They played a huge
part in turning me into the person I am today. Whether it was something that you needed to know or
when you were feeling down, Meme was there. She was a librarian and a teacher for decades and
everyone of her former students I ve met talk about how she was their favorite. Meme was also the
first to send out birthday or get well letters to members of our church, friends, and family. A few years
ago, she started to act a little strange and ditzy. At first we just thought she was getting goofy in her
old age, but as time went on, things got worse.
At first, she stopped recognizing little things like food being spoiled or the smell of gas. One day, I
came into Meme and Pawpaw s house and the air reeked of gas. Meme had unknowingly left the gas
stove on, unlit. I turned it off and cleared the air by opening up some doors and windows. Soon we
began to recognize that Meme was showing signs of Alzheimers. Eventually we couldn t have candles
in the house and we had to take the keys to Meme s car. My Pawpaw s sight physical condition
wouldn t allow him to drive, but my Meme couldn t understand why we wouldn t let her. Before we
took them, we would find her driving aimlessly around town or circling the high school, looking for
the post office.
Then three years ago, on the morning of August 23rd, my step dad Larry came into my room and
woke me up. Pawpaw had passed away in his sleep. The world stopped spinning, but my head went
reeling as I sat in my bed, surrounded by the darkness of the room. He was the best man I ever knew
and his death broke the hearts of so many. However, the one person who would have been affected the
most by his death couldn t quite grasp the concept of it. When the funeral home gave us the box of
Pawpaw s ashes for a service, it peaked her curiosity. After she finally made us explain to her that
Pawpaw s remains were in the box, she said Where s the rest of him? I bet they cut his legs off! .
Meme eventually recognized that Pawpaw was gone and he isn t coming back. But even in her
fractured mental state,

The Ultimate Nature of Matter
The Ultimate Nature of Matter
The theory of quantum mechanics has divided the atom into a number of fundamental sub atomic
particles. Although the physicist has shown that the atom is not a solid indivisible object, he has not
been able to find a particle which does possess those qualities. Talk of particles, though, is misleading
because the word suggests a material object. This is not the intention for the use of the word in
quantum physics. Quantum particles are, instead, representations of the actions and reactions of forces
at the sub atomic level. In fact, physicists are less concerned with the search for a material particle
underlying all physical objects and more interested in explaining how nature works. Quantum theory

I could also visit Dulwich College and perceive the building itself. By comparing my view with
Pissaro s painting I can see enough similarities to assume that we perceived the same public neutral
object. Consequently, these objects must exist independently of the minds that perceive them.
From the physicist s viewpoint, matter is whatever exists from a neutral objective standpoint, and is
independent of any conscious subject. In materialist terms matter would be a public neutral object.
However, it is arguable whether the different forms of objects we perceive can be simply termed as
different forms of matter. It is possible that matter may be an ultimate public neutral object which
underlies the public neutral objects which we perceive as things in the world. Materialism allows
matter its independence of the mind, but it is still no closer to explaining what matter is. Before we
move on to other metaphysical theories, let us first consider an attack on the idea of matter to see if
things become any clearer.
Klempner puts forward such an attack in Metaphysics unit 11. Our experience of the world is only as
perceptions in the mind. We cannot experience anything directly, therefore, we cannot experience the
ultimate reality directly, but only as perceptions in the mind. A consequence of this belief is that my
experiences of other people are also only as perceptions in my mind. To avoid falling into a solipsist
belief, I can recognise that others have their own

Andrew Jackson (from Tennessee) was apart of the Indian Removal. In 1814, he commanded the U.S,
Military that defeated a fraction of the Creek Nation. The Creeks refused to migrate, but the

down a decision which stated that Indians could occupy lands with the U.S. but couldn t hold the title
to those lands, which was called the Right of Occupancy . Later in March 1832, a treaty was signed
and opened a portion of Alabama land. The Natives were guaranteed protected ownership of
remaining portion. By 1837, Jackson had removed forty six thousand Natives Americans land east of
Mississippi, which had then opened twenty five million acres of land to white settlement and slavery.
Cherokees used legal means in attempt to safeguard their rights and the Chickasaws were forced to

Glass Cockpit Case Study
A POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH A WARNING SYSTEM After graduating from the University of
Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering with a degree in computer engineering, I was offered a job
at Company X, a recreational aircraft manufacture. Several years later, I was made the head of a team
tasked with designing the code for the glass cockpit of a new airplane that Company X plans to
produce. The glass cockpit is a screen that displays data such as airspeed, altitude, and vertical
airspeed. This technology replaces the analog gauges that have been used in almost every airplane for
the past century. The advantage of the glass cockpit is that it takes all the raw data that would have
otherwise been displayed by the gauges, processes it, and then displays in an easy understand picture
of aircrafts current situation and position. This allows the pilot to spend less time referring to the
numerous gauges around the cockpit, and more time focusing on situational awareness [1]. With the
deadline for completion only one week away, the code for the glass cockpit is going through its final
tests. During the test of the carburetor ice warning system, it was found that under certain conditions,
the warning light may not be displayed when ice is forming inside of the carburetor. If no warning
light is displayed, the pilot may not know to take corrective action if he has also missed the other
indications of ice forming, such as a drop in the engines rotations per minute (RPM). If no corrective
action is taken, then the carburetor could become completely blocked off with ice thus causing the
engine to fail [2]. As a licensed private pilot, I know that a midflight engine failure can be lethal to the
pilot, the passengers, and anyone on the ground who happens to be in the way. I report the problem to
my supervisor and tell him that the team will need at least two more weeks to go through all the code,

Then your boss decides to have an inspection, laying off immigrant employees. Going to your mother to ask for your birth certificate, you find out you were actually born in Mexico. You get laid off and have to work as a servant for your wife s rich father. This was the case for Peter Griffen, the father and protagonist in the TV series called Family Guy. His trial was held roughly three months later, where Johnson was then convicted of the crime, sentenced to one year in prison, and forced to pay a fine (Goldstein 37). After a series of appeal attempts, the decision of Johnson s case was finally reviewed by the Texas Court of Appeals in 1988 and was then overturned. The court of appeals said that Johnson s actions were protected by his 1st amendment right to freedom of speech. Texas then took that ruling to the Supreme Court where they ruled again in Johnson s favor saying that Texas law against flag desecration was unconstitutional and violated first amendment rights. ... Skemp and Weinberg brought Johnson s case before the appeals court on September 26th where they continued to argue that Johnson s prosecution was in violation of the First Amendment and that since his actions were symbolic and committed during a political protest that it was acceptable (Goldstein 38). The attorneys also stated the Johnson s flag burning met the test of expression set out by the O Brien test in Supreme Court case United States v. O Brien of 1967. The test set a number of guidelines that should be used to decide whether a law that prohibits free speech violates the First Amendment. The test said that the law in question must be: within the constitutional power of the government to enact, further an important or substantial government interest and that interest must be unrelated to the suppression of speech and prohibit no more speech than is essential to further the said interest (Goldstein 25). John D. Nation responded for Texas saying that Johnson created and explosive situation by burning the flag, with people angry and yelling, and the demonstration could have easily led to a physical reaction from those that were nearby and felt offended or opposed. Nation also said there was a need to preserve our country s flag as a symbol of national unity and strength. Additionally he argued that burning the flag harmed a person s sense of national identity and that people assumingly link that with what is represented by the flag and so destroying it could put Johnson in danger (Goldstein 52). On January 23, 1986, Judge John Vance ruled to uphold Johnson s conviction on the grounds that it complied with the O Brien test and that the law was to protect Texas interest in preventing breaches of the peace. My older son was talkative and did not have any problems talking about his likes and dislikes. However, my younger son, always really quiet, had difficulty starting a conversation. I remember one day asking him what happened at school and he had nothing to say. He says, Mom, what do people talk about? I said that anything that happened at school, interactions with friends, or even ask questions. An hour or so later, he says. I just won the spelling bee at school today. I could not believe it. He had won the Spelling Bee for the whole school, including the 5th graders (he was a 4th grader.) and he would have to represent the whole school at a convention center with all the winners of the other schools in our county. He did not think this was a big deal and did not even think about sharing this great accomplishment. • 10. Application Virtualization For A Virtual Machine Monitor (... 1. Introduction Virtualization is a term used to describe technology that uses abstraction to instruct a guest operating system, data storage, or network device to use underlying shared hardware or software as described by Pearce et al. [1]. Abstraction is managed at a software layer known as a virtual machine monitor (VMM) or hypervisor. The VMM or hypervisor emulates hardware to guest operating systems and applications, which includes core processor unit (CPU), memory, input/output (I/O), and network traffic [1, pp.2]. There are different areas of virtualization, which include server virtualization, application virtualization, network virtualization, storage virtualization, and desktop virtualization [1, pp.8]. The branching out of virtualization into different areas displays the rapid growth of this technology. The VMM and hypervisor software layer provides security challenges that should be addressed in order to protect resources and data within virtualization. For example, this additional layer of technology opens up new paths which an attacker can use to break into and interrupt a system or network. The VMM can also be a single point of failure in a virtualized environment [1, pp. 33]. If the VMM is compromised, then the virtual environment managed by the VMM could be compromised as well. The primary focus of this literature review will be physical hosts, which are VMMs and hypervisors managing a virtualization environment. The Important Ideas section will ... • 17. Summary Of The Rich Man Scene The Rich Man scene occurs in Section B of Part 2 of Mark, just after Jesus blesses little children by Him taking the children and blessing them in His arms and by saying I assure you that whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter the Kingdom of God (10:15). Just after Jesus turns around and said to his disciples How hard it will be for rich people to enter the Kingdom of God! (10:23), Jesus speaks to them about his death the third time and how he will be handed over to the chief priests and condemned to death, but will rise again. As to the genre of this periscope, it is much like the story before it 10:13 16, where the children will enter the Kingdom of God without much effort. What Jesus is trying to tell us and his disciples is that one can only enter the kingdom like a child, empty handed and trusting, open to growth and malleable. (J.A. Draper) The structure of the story is V. 17 18 Jesus starts his journey again and a man coming up to him; vv. 20 22 dialogue between the man and Jesus; v. 23 Jesus explains to the disciples. Verse by Verse Analysis V. 17 Good Teacher as soon as Jesus left the house where he blessed the children (10:13 16), Jesus is confronted by a man who kneels at his feet right away and asks Good Teacher, what must I do to receive eternal life? (10:17).This is just as the leper did in (1:40), but in this case the man is not asking for healing or purification but for a way to eternal life. (Camille Focant) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ho Chi Minh said at a speech in Paris in 1946 you can kill 10 of our men for every one we kill of yours, but even at those odds, you will lose and we will win and we have a secret weapon, don t smile when I tell you this, our secret weapon is nationalism which emphasizes the desire and desperation the North Vietnam were willing to go to in order to self determine. The battle at Dien Bien Phu in 1954 was the culmination of the First Indochina War and as a result of North Vietnam s victory, French forces left and a sense of nationalism was prevalent. The Vietnamese were at war with the French due to the Communist forces in the North of Vietnam desiring the expulsion of French forces and colonisation to promote nationalism and self determination. • 26. Essay On Pascal s Wager In this essay I will discuss the ontological problem of the existence of God and discuss Pascal s Wager and how it solves the issue. The problem with the proof of the existence of God is that it is not something we will know for sure until our dying day. We can speculate and bet on his existence and feel his presence but at this point it is just that, only a bet. This wager is famous for opening up minds to look at the problem in a bigger picture. The problem with the existence of God is not in the answer but instead in the question. Pascal is responsible for refocusing this discussion on God to the bigger problem of the existential context of human life. In a way this can all be broken down to very black and white terms Either God is or he is not. But upon looking further we realize that this is a much bigger issue with many grey areas than something as simple as is or is not . Pascal spends much of his argument refocusing discussion and putting appropriate context on different situations. The question of God is a much more pressing question in relation to human mortality. We are much more inclined to draw toward or push away from faith when we are facing unfavorable situations out of our control. We tend to look harder at the meaning of life and our moral values when we are found staring death straight in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later in his piece he brings up another solution offered by individuals he calls the delayed strategy . Meaning one will live as an agnostic or atheist for X amount of years and then decide to believe once he approaches death. The issue with this approach is that you do not know how long you have left to live. You could die in a car crash tomorrow or you could live to be 105 years old. So the prospect of delaying a life of belief baffles me. The fact that so many are willing to risk their spiritual connection and the possibility of an infinite life is insane to ... • 27. Wilhelm Rontgen and the Nobel Prize Essay Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen was born on March 27, 1845 in Lennep, Prussia; which is now Remscheid, Germany. His family moved to Apeldoorn in the Netherlands, where we went to Institute of Martinus Herman van Doorn, a boarding school. He did not show any special aptitude, but he had a fascination with nature and loved roaming the countryside and walking through forests. Later he attended a technical school in Utrecht, but unfortunately was unfairly expelled for allegedly drawing a rude caricature of one of the teachers, which was in fact drawn by another student. He then entered the University of Utrecht in 1865 to study physics. He did not have the required credentials to enter the University, but he heard he could enter by passing an exam. He ... It was later called Roentgen Rays although changed back to X Ray . With his new discovery, he found that the rays would travel through human tissue, but leave a shadow of bone and metal behind. One of his first experiments was on his wife Bertha s hand with a ring on her finger in 1895. Medical X rays work by letting fast moving electrons come to a sudden stop on a metal plate. They show up different on the radiograph because of different absorption rates of different material. The calcium in bones absorb the most x rays so they appear white on a radiograph, or the film x rays are displayed on, although other things like tissue, fat and skin absorb it less so they appear grey. Air absorbs the least x rays so this is why lungs look completely black on a radiograph. Todays x ray machines are much faster, more efficient and produce much less harmful radiation. Excessive exposure to x rays can be dangerous but in modern medicine doctors are able to keep us safe with their knowledge on this. The original x ray machine took 90 minutes and produced 1500 times the radiation as modern x rays. Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen has made a huge impact on todays technology. It s obvious to see that inventing the x ray is a big deal, but this was actually a very big accomplishment and made a lot of new things possible. • 28. Comparison Of Heroism In The Hero With A Thousand Faces In The Hero with a Thousand Faces , the author explores a variety of myths and elucidates the fundamental structure that most of them share. In most cases, the heroes adopt the true picture of heroism, where the heroic personalities make painful personal sacrifices in order to save situations that are dear to them. In addition, most heroic figure appears humbled by the respect accorded to them by the society and always acts in a selfless manner to defend the society. However, there are a few instances when the heroes assume a status way above average humans and using that status to hoard all the social benefits for themselves. This is the argument that Joseph Campbell puts forward regarding Minotaur, the tyrant monster. According to literature, Minotaur was a monster that had quite intimidating body, half of it man and half of it a bull. The monster basically personified ego unlike typical monsters that showed humility and self annihilation. The only food that the monster ate was human flesh and none of the strongest heroes would dare challenge him. It is the reason why fourteen children would be sent to it every year from Greece to the Island of Crete, where it lived. The people believed that this was the only way to prevent the society from experiencing some of the worst calamities. Campbell s argument that Minotaur was a typical tyrant monster is very true. They played a huge part in turning me into the person I am today. Whether it was something that you needed to know or when you were feeling down, Meme was there. She was a librarian and a teacher for decades and everyone of her former students I ve met talk about how she was their favorite. Meme was also the first to send out birthday or get well letters to members of our church, friends, and family. A few years ago, she started to act a little strange and ditzy. At first we just thought she was getting goofy in her old age, but as time went on, things got worse. At first, she stopped recognizing little things like food being spoiled or the smell of gas. One day, I came into Meme and Pawpaw s house and the air reeked of gas. Meme had unknowingly left the gas stove on, unlit. I turned it off and cleared the air by opening up some doors and windows. Soon we began to recognize that Meme was showing signs of Alzheimers. Eventually we couldn t have candles in the house and we had to take the keys to Meme s car. My Pawpaw s sight physical condition wouldn t allow him to drive, but my Meme couldn t understand why we wouldn t let her. Before we took them, we would find her driving aimlessly around town or circling the high school, looking for the post office. Then three years ago, on the morning of August 23rd, my step dad Larry came into my room and woke me up. Pawpaw had passed away in his sleep. The world stopped spinning, but my head went reeling as I sat in my bed, surrounded by the darkness of the room. He was the best man I ever knew and his death broke the hearts of so many. However, the one person who would have been affected the most by his death couldn t quite grasp the concept of it. When the funeral home gave us the box of Pawpaw s ashes for a service, it peaked her curiosity. After she finally made us explain to her that Pawpaw s remains were in the box, she said Where s the rest of him? I bet they cut his legs off! . • 32. The Ultimate Nature of Matter The Ultimate Nature of Matter The theory of quantum mechanics has divided the atom into a number of fundamental sub atomic particles. Although the physicist has shown that the atom is not a solid indivisible object, he has not been able to find a particle which does possess those qualities. Talk of particles, though, is misleading because the word suggests a material object. This is not the intention for the use of the word in quantum physics. Quantum particles are, instead, representations of the actions and reactions of forces at the sub atomic level. In fact, physicists are less concerned with the search for a material particle underlying all physical objects and more interested in explaining how nature works. Quantum theory is ... By comparing my view with Pissaro s painting I can see enough similarities to assume that we perceived the same public neutral object. Consequently, these objects must exist independently of the minds that perceive them. From the physicist s viewpoint, matter is whatever exists from a neutral objective standpoint, and is independent of any conscious subject. In materialist terms matter would be a public neutral object. However, it is arguable whether the different forms of objects we perceive can be simply termed as different forms of matter. It is possible that matter may be an ultimate public neutral object which underlies the public neutral objects which we perceive as things in the world. Materialism allows matter its independence of the mind, but it is still no closer to explaining what matter is. Before we move on to other metaphysical theories, let us first consider an attack on the idea of matter to see if things become any clearer. Klempner puts forward such an attack in Metaphysics unit 11. Our experience of the world is only as perceptions in the mind. We cannot experience anything directly, therefore, we cannot experience the ultimate reality directly, but only as perceptions in the mind. Then in 1823, Supreme Court handed down a decision which stated that Indians could occupy lands with the U.S. but couldn t hold the title to those lands, which was called the Right of Occupancy . Later in March 1832, a treaty was signed and opened a portion of Alabama land. The Natives were guaranteed protected ownership of remaining portion. By 1837, Jackson had removed forty six thousand Natives Americans land east of Mississippi, which had then opened twenty five million acres of land to white settlement and slavery. • 38. Glass Cockpit Case Study A POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH A WARNING SYSTEM After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering with a degree in computer engineering, I was offered a job at Company X, a recreational aircraft manufacture. Several years later, I was made the head of a team tasked with designing the code for the glass cockpit of a new airplane that Company X plans to produce. The glass cockpit is a screen that displays data such as airspeed, altitude, and vertical airspeed. This technology replaces the analog gauges that have been used in almost every airplane for the past century. The advantage of the glass cockpit is that it takes all the raw data that would have otherwise been displayed by the gauges, processes it, and then displays in an easy understand picture of aircrafts current situation and position. This allows the pilot to spend less time referring to the numerous gauges around the cockpit, and more time focusing on situational awareness [1]. With the deadline for completion only one week away, the code for the glass cockpit is going through its final tests. During the test of the carburetor ice warning system, it was found that under certain conditions, the warning light may not be displayed when ice is forming inside of the carburetor. If no warning light is displayed, the pilot may not know to take corrective action if he has also missed the other indications of ice forming, such as a drop in the engines rotations per minute (RPM). If no corrective action is taken, then the carburetor could become completely blocked off with ice thus causing the engine to fail [2]. As a licensed private pilot, I know that a midflight engine failure can be lethal to the pilot, the passengers, and anyone on the ground who happens to be in the way. I report the problem to my supervisor and tell him that the team will need at least two more weeks to go through all the code, find the problem, and fix it. His response is very troubling. He tells me that because the test results show that the warning system only has the potential to fail under a very specific set of conditions, it is alright for me to just leave that out of my report. I argue that we need to fix this problem because it could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
