SSMU3.1 Understanding Sensory Loss
Gemma Nelson (Ashcroft House)
1.1 Analyse how a range of factors can impact on individuals with sensory loss
* Impact on Communication
Sensory loss can frequently lead to isolation and frustration at not being able to communicate
efficiently with other people. With hearing loss, day to day activities such as hearing a doorbell,
using the telephone, watching television or taking part in conversations can produce feelings of
inadequacy within the individual. Not being able to distinguish faces, read the time on a clock or
drive can produce the same feelings in a person who has vision loss. Hearing loss interferes with
face to face communication and can often cause older people to lose ... Show more content on

Society is better than it used to be at recognising the needs of deaf people; there are more public
buildings such as cinemas, theatres and conference facilities that have loop systems so that people
who can use hearing aids are able to listen to what is being said or performed. There some events
that now have signers to translate speeches and performances. Many television programmes now
have access to subtitles and some have signers, although these tend to be late at night. People with
any kind of sensory loss can have difficulties in finding employment. Even though the Equality Act
and the Disability Discrimination Act mean that employers cannot discriminate, it is hard to
convince an employer that a sensory loss does not necessarily mean that someone is unable to do a
job.
Attitudes such as these can make it difficult for people to maintain self esteem and can destroy
confidence, with the result that they will attempt less, rely on others more and potentially lose
their independence. However, there have been some major shifts in attitudes as initiatives such as
Our Health Our Care Our Say , Putting People First and Valuing People are changing how we
look at disability and making people aware that all disabled people have the right to take a full part
in society.

Charlotte Beers At Ogilvy And Mather Essay examples
BACKGROUND
Charlotte Beers became Ogilvy Mather s first outsider CEO after its acquisition by WPP Group
Plc in 1991. According to her memo dated May 19th, Beers objective was to re invent the mega
agency, whose inertia and complacency had eroded its competitiveness since the 1980s. In fact,
Beer s tenure at Ogilvy constituted a re creation of the agency, redefining its aims, processes,
people, and structure in reaction to the demands placed by the changing advertising industry.
ANALYSIS
The main issue that confronted Beers was initiating and instituting organizational change at the core
level. She assumed the leadership of Ogilvy at a time when the organization was internally bleeding.
Charismatic founder David Ogilvy s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, Ogilvy s chronic failure to institute systems for managing collaboration across regions
contributed to a general lack of financial discipline, lack of focus on cost, and lack of structured
decision making that had cumulative negative effects on the company. As a result, Ogilvy s
competitive advantage as the most local of the internationals, the most international of the locals
was undermined by competitors consistently lower costs.
Compounding Ogilvy s problems was the perception that media advertising was a mere commodity,
leading bargain hunting clients fled to new, lower cost boutique creative shops. Ultimately, despite
its consistent 15% up market performance, and the success of the independent subsidiary Ogilvy
Direct, Ogilvy lost over $100 million in advertising contracts from longtime clients including
Unilever, Shell, Seagram s, Nutrasweet, Campbell, Roy Rogers and American Express. Its net
income actually decreased by 2.8% in 1991.
Clearly, beleaguered Ogilvy s new CEO needed to prevent further decline by instituting changes that
were long overdue:
1.Redefine the corporate vision based on Brand Stewardship;
2.Modify the organizational structure to facilitate collaboration among the company s various
regional and local offices and central office; and
3.Resolve the centralization vs. localization issue more definitively, in terms of authority and
compensation. OBSTACLES TO CHANGE Beers

The overall theme or message of Stormbreaker is teenagers should not be underestimated in what
they can accomplish when faced with adversity. Through perseverance a person of any age can
succeed and make a difference as a result of that perseverance. Alex Rider is not expected to
succeed at his mission at Sayle Enterprises even though Alan Blunt and Mrs. Jones send him to

agreement. Alex is determined to prove his new guardians wrong and hopes in the process he can

Different Periods Of Music Have Different Characteristics
Different periods of music have different characteristics. For impressionist era, it was between
romantic period and the 20th century. There were some similarities within these two periods, like
the contrasts of dynamics and pitch in the former period, while the melody is fragmented in the
latter period. One of the famous composers, Claude Debussy, liked to compose musicthrough
harmony and exotic scale. An example of his pieces was Danse sacree et profane composed in
1904. It consists of two parts with the meaning of sacred and profane, and most characteristics of
the 20th century music.
The two parts of Danse sacree et profane are not fully distinct but give me different feelings.
What I first heard was the narrow use of instruments that is performed by a string orchestra,
consisting of two violins, cello, viola, and double bass. These emphasize the solo Harp used in this
piece and outline its characteristics. The piece is well organized as the Harp plays the main melody
of this music, while the strings are used for accompaniment. The orchestration moves between
strings and the harp, and plays open octaves that are in unison with melody in a few moments.
Overall, the melodies move slightly with simple intervals and straightforward rhythmic patterns.
Whole tone scales are used throughout two parts, which is one of the most common practices by
Debussy. Moreover, this piece is in the binary form due to the division of two parts. Yet, it can be
considered as a rounded

Comparison Of The Chrysanthemums And The White Quail
Compare and Contrast The Long Valley
Two characters, Elisa Allen and Mary Teller, struggle with the idea of being accepted into the
society of the 1930s. Women s rights were not fully accepted in the 1930s, and these two
characters were set in the common day view of men and women. In the 1930s, [Society has]
assigned to white women such roles as housewife, secretary, PTA chairman, and schoolteacher.
Black women can now be schoolteachers, too, but they are most prominently assigned to such
domestic roles as maid, cook, waitress, and babysitter (Chisholm 123). These assigned roles have
impacted women around the world, including the two characters in these short stories The
Chrysanthemums and The White Quail . Not being activists in women s rights, these women
conformed to society and lived their lives as any typical housewife in the 1930s. Their passions
and choices during this time affected their way of living and relationships. The two stories reflect
similarities of the women s love for gardening and lonely marriages, but also reflect their different
viewpoints on the world they live in.
The two housewives have a passionate love for gardening and bestow their love and appreciation
towards their gardens. In the twentieth century, gardening was advocated as beneficial to one s life
and family. In the New England Quarterly, the journal, Gardening as Women s Culture in Mary E.

Franz Anton Mesmer was a man whom had discovered the work of Renaissance mystic
physician Paracelsus at around 1766. He tried to uncover a relationship of astrology and human
health or regeneration, combining human trials and studies at around 1775, he later became
increasingly unpopular amongst other physicians of his time then renounced and left country
after country leaving a few followers that would later be known as mesmerist who would follow
his footsteps and perform studies on patients. After his death, 2 of his followers announced great
discoveries that consisted of sleep like states humans went through using his practices; those
discoveries and revelations would later lead physicians to consider the possibility of using
mesmerism as an anesthetic during surgery. James Braid another man who became interested in
mesmerism then began his own trials in Manchester at about 1841. He is known as the father of
modern hypnosis using similar methods as mesmerism he examined subjects and got behind the
science of the human brain and its reaction under trance along with how one is hypnotized in the
first place. He disproved Mesmer not wanting to be known as a follower of him and his beliefs; he

What You Pawn I Will Redeem : Jackson Jackson Hero or Not? After a first reading of Sherman
Alexie s short story What You Pawn I Will Redeem, the reader may find it difficult to classify
main character Jackson Jackson as a hero because he does not possess characteristics that most
people are familiar with because of characters like Atticus Finish of To Kill a Mockingbird,
among others; in fact, he appears to be a loser and a drifter that cannot get his act together no
matter how hard he tries or doesn t try. As the story develops the reader becomes increasingly
frustrated with Jackson Jackson because he continually gets off course from his goal; however,
Jackson is a not only a hero because his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the subject matters in Alexie s fiction are morally and ethically engaging, the same texts
are often ironic, satiric, and full of humor. As the characters in a caricature like manner stagger
across the reservation, between drinking the next beer and cracking the next joke, the reader is
often invited to laugh along with them, even at them. (Nygren)
Alexie s stories are engaging and touch readers even though the atmosphere of violence,
alcoholism, and poverty pervades much of Alexie s writing whether the setting is on or off the
reservation (Donovan 21). Many of Alexie s stories take place on the reservation and some take
place in urban cities such as What You Pawn I Will Redeem, although the characters are far from
the harsh life of the reservations, the bad things in life seem to follow them. Alexie s fictional
reservation is a place where his characters are tormented by collective memories of a genocidal
past, of cavalry approved hangings, massacres, and smallpox infected blankets (Nygren). These
nightmares haunt his characters; they may not verbalize the horrific history of their people but the
reader can sense that not all is well with Alexie s characters and it is a burden that they have to

Martyrs To X-Rays
Martyrs To The X Rays The discovery of X rays was costly. Many lost their lives in the process
and those who survived with severe physical deformities were considered fortunate. Their
determination is inspiring and their work was a life changer.
The Beginning Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen discovered X rays on November 8, 1895. About 14
days after Roentgen first noticed radiation activity, a man by the name of Friedrich Walkhoff
performed the first dental X ray. He did the X ray on himself first for twenty five minutes and then
on patients for thirty. Mr. Walkhoff only noticed hair loss on his patients around the exposed area,
nothing he considered significant (Sansare, Khanna, Karjodkar, 2011, p. 1). Minor effects of
radiation were first noticed in 1896 by Nikola Tesla... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was not until 1904 when William Rollins leaded the tube housing, installed the collimator, and
did many experiments on pregnant guinea pigs to conclude that X rays can kill fetus . Rollins
was the first to give many contributions to radiation protection. In 1907 an X ray manufacturer
by the name of Rome Wagner had the first idea of film badges. He would carry a photographic
plate in his pocket to see if he was getting too much exposure and then develop it each night.
Wagner was unable to perfect his idea because he died six months later from cancer(Kathern,
Ziemer, 1980, p. 3). In the 1920 s other methods of protection were introduced. The film badge
became a routine monitoring device. The unit to measure radiation was established and named the
Roentgen, and the first tolerance dose was created (Kathern, Ziemer 1980, p. 4). One might
classify radiation protection as quite the traveler since its journey transcended through both the
Pioneer Era and the Era of Progress. Today s advancements include a reduction in exposure time to
milliseconds and a switch to digital (Sansare, et al., 2011,

Now more and more violence television shows appear on the screen. A lot of television shows will

study aimed to demonstrate the gender specific impact of violence oriented television cartoons for
children, and to identify the behaviors demonstrating this influence. What would affect on children
were the violence action produce on the television screen every day. For example, there are many
common programs, like movie, drama, news, and movie video, they broadcast killing, thinking bad
ideas, seeing the real chaos world, and saying the curse words.
Children would be imitating violence by watching television programs, it is called SpongeBob

impart a negative effect immediately after watching the show on the learning and behavior of
young children. (University of Virginia institutional review board)
It s fast paced and it s fantastical. So the child is needing to process all this new stuff really, really

Arguments Against Poaching
Like all big issues in our world, there is an argument being made. The argument is not whether
poaching is a problem or not, it is obviously a problem, it is an argument on how humanity should
go about stopping poaching. One side of that argument believes that going after the people behind
poaching, those who buy poached ivoryfor example, is more important than stopping poachers on
the ground . They would be more likely to support a United Nations sanction on poaching than
providing funding for ranger groups. The other side of the argument is that the effort to stop
poaching has become an all out war and needs to be treated as such. They believe rangers need
access to modern weapons and technology, training and funding. They argue if the poachers have it,
the rangers trying to stop them need to have it too.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We re not talking about dudes running around in soccer jerseys with machetes they re decked

argument. In order to stop the poaching epidemic our planet suffers from the global anti
poaching community must come together groups of rangers in the field, as well as larger
organizations, and give them the rights and the support any soldier would receive in a war. If we
don t treat the war on poaching like an actual war, and we don t treat poachers like active
combatants, and rangers like soldiers, there is no hope in stopping the illegal killings and saving the

North Vietnam, South Vietnam, and Laos came together, the Khe Sanh base was important for
American forces, as it enabled troops to gather information about the traffic on the Ho Chi Minh

Operation Niagara resupplied the marines as Khe Sanh via aerial means. Carrying out the
operation wasn t easy; the aircrafts of the operation fought through bad weather and heavy
defenses by the NVA, so heavy that they could no longer land on the airstrip and had to
discharge their cargo in low flying parachute drops (Caputo). Though the operation had good
intentions, a part of it showed how badly the morale of most US leaders became on January 23,
one of the resupply planes unloaded four large crates addressed to Fifth Graves Registration

American leaders and troops needed a boost in morale. Commander William H. Dabney, who

Designing The Efficient Scheduling Methods For Real Time...
Abstract In this research we are presenting the problem of designing the efficient scheduling
methods for real time systems. The real time scheduling problem is nothing but the scheduling
problem in which QoS requirements should be satisfied along with task scheduling. The main
objective of scheduling problem is designing the time and QoS efficient scheduling algorithm to
schedule tasks optimally those are waiting to be served. We presented the literature study on
different existing scheduling policies with its limitations. Therefore in this research, we are
presenting new Dynamic Multilevel Priority (DMP) method of scheduling policy for RTS. As
the name indicates, this method works dynamically and as per the requirement of task
scheduling. DMP algorithm is designed with three different queues of tasks/demands scheduling
based on nature of tasks. In first queue, security/urgency related demands should be proceed with
highest priority, in second queue with second highest priority, regular demands should be
proceed, while last queue is used to serve local non real time demands. In first queue, real time
packets processed with highest priority. Thus this scheduling policy does not hold any demand
for longer waiting period and hence improves the overall QoS performance of RTSs. The
practical evaluation of proposed methodology is done by using UPPAAL tool. We have
considered train gate example for evaluation of proposed scheduling policy. Keyword: Real Time

Mobile Phones And Its Impact On The World
Today, almost everything is done digitally either on laptops or mobile phones (smartphones), from
online shopping to online banking. These little things have become one amongst the most important
things to survive. Mobile phones have become ubiquitous; you can find a fifth grade kid with a
smartphone. There are more than a billion smartphones in the market and six billion mobile phone
subscriptions. With the rapid development of smartphones, things like watches, radios, cameras,
calculators and so on are fading out of the market. In the near future, we might be giving up our
leather wallet for a digital wallet.
Digital Wallets are not new; in fact, the first was released about four years ago. Since then, many
other companies have followed the same path, creating their own versions with their own unique
features. Apple, Google, Samsung, and PayPal all quickly developed a digital wallet, most
compatible with all smartphones with the exception of Apple and Samsung. Both Apple and
Samsung only allow their digital wallets, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay, to be used on the
smartphones and smartwatches their companies develop. However, all of these mobile payment
systems use the same technology to pass credentials, near field communication (NFC) readers, with
one exception, Samsung Pay.
Samsung Pay still uses NFC readers, but it also uses magnetic secure transmission (MST), which
means that Samsung Pay will work with all types of point of sale (POS) devices (old and new).

Reader Response In The Kite Runner By Khaled Hosseini
The Kite Runner Reader Response
Khaled Hosseini, the author of The Kite Runner, has a writing style unique to him in a way that
the majority of his sentences are short and non complex. Although there are numerous words in
Farsi, most are explained right away to limit confusion. You look khoshteep , Baba said.
Handsome ( Hosseini 166). Hosseini incorporates an abundance of figurative language in his
book, an example of this is repetition. The line, There is a way to be good again is said several
times throughout the book to show its significance in the novel (Hosseini 2). Figurative language is
extremely important because it adds a meaning and value that is much stronger than saying it
differently.
Hosseini uses many symbols in his novel. One, in particular, shows the loss of friendship between
Amir and Hassan, the pomegranate tree. In the beginning, Amir and Hassan would go to the tree
to read stories and eat pomegranates. After school, Hassan and I climbed its branches and
snatched its bloodred pomegranates (Hosseini 27 28). After Hassan had been raped, Amir and
Hassan had gone back to the tree but this time the loss of friendship starts to show through.
When Amir throws pomegranates at Hassan, it is him trying to get Haasan to punish Amir for
what he had done wrong. Hit me back! I spat. Hit me back, goddamn you ! I wished he would. I
wished he d give me the punishment I craved, so maybe I d finally sleep at night (Hosseini 92).
Amir needs the punishment he deserves so badly from the awful things he did and now wants to
live up to. Once Amir goes back to visit his home in Kabul, he finds the pomegranate tree that
once was a symbol of friendship, and now the loss of just that. Hassan said in his letter that the
pomegranate tree hadn t borne fruit in years. Looking at the wilted, leafless tree, I doubted it ever
would again (Hosseini 264). The pomegranate tree shows how during their friendship, the tree was
beautiful and full of life. Now that Amir has betrayed Hassan and left him to be killed, the tree is
now lifeless and no fruit to be eaten symbolizing the end of their relationship.
Another symbol that is extremely important is the flying of kites. This is significant because it is

automobile industry and have done so in a highly competitive way. The automobile industry is
categorized as an oligopoly. In this particular structured market, outside organizations have the
capability of entering the automobile industry, but in some cases there can be barriers of entry and
exit. According to Colander, D. (2010) Implicit collusion among U.S. automobile firms led to
foreign firms entry into the U.S. automobile market. Basically, a collective decision is made to
reduce or increase pricing in the industry without companies specifically meeting to do so. In the
global market, the automobile industry is competitive and creates opportunities to increase
production along with establishing operations in other countries throughout the world. The ability
to sustain a level of profits will be a challenge. With fluctuating market pricing, market share of the
automobile industry can be increased or reduced. In some cases, making a significant price
reduction can eliminate a competitor from the industry, which can result in long term profits.
Merger Activity The automobile industry has a long history of mergers, acquisitions, partnerships
and alliances. In 1904 Ford Motor Company partnered with a Canadian carriage maker. Though not
a vertical merger, the partnership increased Ford s production efficiency. The most recent

How Gender Comes Into Play
In my previous paper I was very interested in how gender comes into play when it comes to how
people balance paid work and family time. This was really interesting to me because as a
daughter I was really interested to see if any of the themes that I saw reminded of when I was
young. Even more than that, however, I was interested to see what might happen to me as I get
older, get married, and start having children. While I am young now, I am very eager to settle
down and have a familyso I was very curious at the different themes that I would see when I
interviewed a married women, who was Named Lucy .
The themes that I did see in my research were inequality, a very traditional family dynamic
(which I thought was caused by a gender trap), and family myths. The division of household labor
in this family was very traditional, the mother, who I interviewed, was the one who did most, if
not all, of the household labor along with working a full time job. That led me to believe that they
had a very traditional family dynamic, even though that might not be the true ideology of the
women I interviewed. I picked up on a few things while I was interviewing her that I think led to
the traditional division of labor. I thought that they were very much caught in a gender trap,
meaning that they think that they have to do what is typical for their gender. That meant that the
childcare and the housework, which is seen as more of a feminine, were up to Lucy. The other
things that were seen

How Does Esther Replace Vashti
Esther is like the Proverbs 31 woman; like Ruth and Judith, when Esther is queen she puts on not
only her beautiful royal clothing on, but also strength and dignity which are represented through the
clothing. Because Queen Vashti does not listen to King Ahasuerus, the king sent letters to every
province, declaring that every man should be mater in his own household (Esther1:22). The king s
order is backward of the Proverbs 31 woman, who oversees the house. Esther is chosen by
Ahasuerus to replace Vashti as queen. After selected, she was given months of cosmetic treatments
(2:8 9). Esther then won the kings favor from the group of young virgins he systematically raped.
Up until this point, Esther has been under the protection of Mordecai

Cuban Missle Crisis Essay
Cuban Missle Crisis
Many agree that the Cuban Missile Crisis was the closest the world ever came to nuclear war; but
exactly how close did it come? The Crisis was ultimately a showdown between the United States
and the Soviet Union from October 16 to October 28, 1962. During those thirteen stressful days,
the world s two biggest superpowers stood on the brink of a nuclear catastrophe. The Crisis started
as a result of both the Soviet Union s fear of losing the arms race, and Cuba s fear of US invasion.
The Soviet Premier, Nikita Khrushchev, thought that both problems could easily be solved by
placing Soviet medium range missiles in Cuba. This deployment would double the Soviet arsenal
and protect Cuba from US invasion. Khrushchev ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
did, in fact, have more missiles than the Soviet Union. What worried Khrushchev the most,
though, was that the Soviet missiles were only powerful enough to be launched against Europe,
but the US missiles were capable of striking the entire Soviet Union. He worried that if the Soviet
Union lost the arms race that badly, it would invite a nuclear attack from the US. Khrushchev
needed a way to counter the United State s lead. (May 49) In April of 1962, Soviet Premier Nikita
Khrushchev came up with the idea of installing medium range missiles in Cuba. Cuba was close
enough to the United States that the Soviet missiles would be an effective deterrent to a potential
US attack against either the Soviet Union or Cuba. Castro accepted Khrushchev s offer, since it
would protect Cuba and, therefore, solve Castro s previous dilemma. In mid July of 1962, the
Soviet Union began its buildup of offensive weapons in Cuba. The Soviets spent most of the late
summer and early fall of 1962 ferrying launch equipment and personnel necessary for the
preparation of missiles to Cuba. Since they could not use military ships (for fear of being
discovered) the Soviets used civilian vessels. However, even with this caution, their actions were
detected. As the US monitored the suddenly increased shipping activity to Cuba, rumors started in
Washington. On August 10, John McCone, director of the CIA, sent the President a letter stating
his belief that the Soviets were placing MRBMs in Cuba.

Hypertension Of Hypertension And Secondary Hypertension
Hypertension is defined as blood pressure greater than 140/90 mm Hg on two or more blood
pressure readings taken at each of two or more visits after initial screening. There are two types of
hypertension which are the primary (essential) hypertension and secondary hypertension. Essential
hypertension is referred to patients with hypertensionwithout any secondary identifiable cause.
Secondary hypertension has an identifiable cause, such as renal artery stenosis or
pheochromocytoma, and is managed as part of the primary condition (Papadakis, 2014).
The Joint National Committee published JNC 7 in 2003 which established different
classification of hypertension. According to JNC 7, blood pressure was considered normal
when systolic was less than 120 mmHg and diastolic was less than 80 mmHg. The prehypertension
range was systolic 120 139 mmHg or diastolic 80 89 mmHg. Stage 1 hypertension was categorized
as systolic of 140 159 mmHg or diastolic 90 99. Stage 2 hypertension was categorized as systolic
greater than 160 mmHg or diastolic greater than 100 mmHg (JNC 7, 2003).
Hypertension is a major medical problem in America with high morbidity and mortality.
According to Center for Disease Control statistics released on 2015, it is estimated that about 70
million American adults have high blood pressure, with a ratio of 1 out of every 3 adults in
America living with hypertension (CDC, 2015). In 2012, CDC conducted a statistical analysis of

Tourism Planning

Robinson and Novelli (2005) note niche tourism has become a growing trend occurring in current
years in contrast to what is frequently related to as mass tourism . Cusack and Dixon (2006) add
niche tourism is known to present diversity and provide opportunities with a form of tourism that
aims towards sustainability alongside considering expenditure from tourists. Furthermore, it
suggests a more practical set of strategies that distinguishes tourists. Gartner (1996) demonstrates
how niche tourism consists of distinct interests, culture and/or activity built tourism including small
proportion of tourist in authentic surroundings. Moreover, niche tourism can fall into more specific

growing rate of 5% per annum (Nora, 2012).
Page and Dowling (2002) cite the relevance of understanding the different components between
hard and soft ecotourism. For example hard ecotourism is the desirable type which emphasises a
long term attitude towards nature. Additionally, trips tend to be specialised i.e. undertaken for
ecotourism purposes only, with participants likely to be environmentalists who are dedicated to the
principles of sustainability (Sharpley and Telfer 2002). In contrast soft ecotourism is the
consideration of the short term and favourable with many participants who are tourists with less
appreciation for the environment. Moreover, soft ecotourism occurs in a less natural setting such
as wildlife parks, however is usually accompanied by a high level of service and facility provision
(Weaver and Lawton, 2002).
Orams (1995) highlights the purpose for ecotourism becoming an important aspect in recent years.
He suggests the term can be outlined back to the 1980 s, with invention being the outcome of
increased acknowledgment of and response to negative effects as a consequence of mass tourism in
natural spaces. Middleton and Hawkins

The Theory Of Liberal Ideology
Political Science Midterm I will be speaking on important political terms, explain the
development of liberal ideology in the United States of America, and touch on a few other areas
of political culture. First off liberalism; liberalism is a way of political worldview by the ideas of
liberty and equality. Although in a certain time in our history equality was somewhat of a lie.
Slavery, racism, and feminism prove that not every single person on the planet had equal rights. In
the 1650 s to 1780 s western Europe had people that were thinking of ways to enlighten the people
and bring change to the world they all live in, called the Age of Enlightenment. Mostly philosophers

There are liberal liberals, conservative liberals, and radical liberals. Which mostly all follow the
basic structure of liberalism. For example liberal liberals believe that for social safety people need
help to feed their families and take care of themselves because not everyone can make it in this
world and put food in peoples mouths, afford medical insurance, civilized people try to help
each other, not leave them starving and without care. On the conservative side, there views are
that people should be responsible for themselves, if they are given the chance they are completely
capable of supporting themselves and their families. They also believe that if government always
picks up and pampers the poor or needy, they will be weak and lose their motivation to work. For
money, taxes, and the part that the government plays; the conservatives believe that government
should serve the people. Not the other way around. The liberals say that the proper function of a
government is to solve issues, decrease poverty, protect civil rights and liberties. And to make sure
that all Americans have a fair chance to succeed.
The dimensions of the ideology of liberalism are political and economic liberalism. Political
liberalism underlines the social contract. Where citizens can make laws and agree to follow those
laws. Most people believe that individuals know what is best for them. Also it allows people to
represent themselves without the need to worry

stories. From the first civilization to modern times, mythologies help explain the vents of the world

To look at every mythology as true, and not as blasphemous as some mythologies do, one allows
themselves to see the world as Joseph Campbell did, as a world of mythological commonalities
amongst peoples throughout time and location. If such commonalities exist then where do they
come from? How could it be that throughout thousands of years, across thousands of miles
different groups of peoples share the same basic thought processes or ideas? In his book
Primitive Mythology Campbell provides a possible explanation observable in nature called Sign
Stimulus. Sign Stimulus is an energy...understood by the body as being important or effects one
emotionally in some way. (Primitive Mythology Campbell pg. 40 41) To help the reader
understand this concept Campbell provides an example in a nature, a baby bird that instinctively
knows the image of its natural predator (a hawk) and the correct response to the image (hide).
How does the baby bird know what a hawk looks like and how does it know to run away from it,
if it has never seen one before? Campbell suggests that Sign Stimulus is an ingrained image or
response, in the brain, to a situation and is something that is passed down in the genetics of the
animal. In relation to mythology it is logical that humanity, as a member of the Animal

Masaccio s The Tribute Money
The artist who epitomizes the innovative spirit of early 15th century Florentine painting was
Tommaso di ser Giovanni di Mone Cassai, known as Masaccio (Kleiner 241). The name meant
clumsy Tom or hulking Tom. Masaccios mother Mona Jacopa di Martinozzo gave birth to him at
the Castel San Giovanni, the modern San Giovanni Valdarno on December 21, 1401. Which
happens to be located in the upper Arno Vally about 30 miles from Florence. Masaccio s father was

This painting is a picture of the story from the Bible, the gospel of Matthew. Masaccio made the
followers circle around Jesus instead of following behind in a line which furthermore lead you
to believe he was teaching something. Ancient Roman painters used aerial perspective,
medieval artists had abandoned it. Thus, it virtually disappeared from art until Masaccio and
his contemporaries rediscovered it. They came to realize that the light and air interposed
between viewers and what they see are two parts of the visual experience called distance
(Kleiner 242). Masaccio s painting helps to remind people of the law that was set by the one we
serve, which was to pay your taxes. Yes that did come from God for those who do not know
history. The story of Matthew is a great example of why we pay taxes and Masaccio made a
master piece by creating a visual of the story. The Tribute Money itself alludes in some way to
Man s separate duties to the State and to the Church. In it St Peter is instructed by Christ to pay a
tax to the civil authority. This must certainly be a reference to the obligations of the Roman
Church towards secular authority; it probably also refers to each individual man s obligation to
render separately to God and to Caesar that which is due to them (Visual Arts).
In conclusion, Masaccio was an outstanding artist. His piece that was inspired by other artist still
inspires us today. We can only

Define Drug Trafficking
Assignment #6
Discuss the production and trafficking of drugs i.e., heroin, cocaine, and crack, and how the
trafficking relates to the criminal enterprise. Discuss the criminal justice systems role in the fight
against drugs.
Cocaine, crack, and heroin are three of the most abused illegal drugs in the United States. There
are some forms of cocaine that are used for medicinal purposes. Cocaine is shipped from South
America by drug cartels, mainly from Peru, Bolivia and Colombia. Drug cartels (coalitions or
agreements between parties intended to further a mutual interest). Drug cartels handle the
trafficking of the drug to one of its biggest customers, the United States.
Heroin is an opioid drug that is manufactured from morphine. The heroin is extracted from the
Asian opium poppy plant. It is believed that 24 percent of people who use heroin become addicted
(dependency on a substance) and they cannot stop using it without adverse affects either
psychologically or physiologically.
Crack, or rock is more addictive than powder cocaine and heroin. Robin Haslam (2013), Director
of Operations and Procedures for Addiction Canada, said that he has never seen someone who can
just smoke crack casually. Heroin, like cocaine is produced from the resin (a sticky substance

Iambic Similes In William Shakespeare s Sonnet 130
An Elizabethan sonnet is a poem that contains 14 lines. Each line is usually 10 syllables long.
However, Shakespeare created his own type of sonnet that also has 14 lines, but also follows a
rhyme scheme of ababcdcdefefgg. Not only that, but the Shakespearean sonnets also have iambic
pentameter which give the sonnetsa rhythm or beat by emphasizing every other syllable.
Shakespearean sonnets are very similar to those of Petrarchan lovers. The main idea of these
sonnets are usually about exaggerated and romantic love. These sonnets were created by a man
named Francesco Petrarch. He was an Italian student during the Renaissance who lived in
Petrarch, Italy. Petrarch then fell in love with a woman named Laura, and shortly after he began
to write sonnets about her. Many people who also lived in the city continued what Francesco had
started. The ideal woman of the time and in Petrarchan sonnets was blonde, had a high forehead,
had bright eyes, and had pale skin. In the sonnets, they are exaggerated so much that they are
almost viewed as angels or goddesses. In William Shakespeare s Sonnet130, he compares his
mistress to the ideal woman from Petrarchan sonnets, and in a way, mocks them for their ridiculous
flattery. In Sonnet 130, William Shakespeare s use of similes, metaphors, and tone illustrate the
complex nature of love, and reject the clichГ© concepts of ideal love.

Critical Appreciation Of Dover Beach
Eternal Note of Elegy A sensitive mind can often feel the essence of The Times more deeply
than its peers. Matthew Arnold is an obvious example. When British empire was beguiled by the
prosperity of the surface of Victoria Time, as a poet and scholar, he wrote in his top ranking
poem Dover beach sang desperate elegy for the crisis in the whole western civilization. In nature,
Dover beach is a masterpiece recalling with emotion. It starts with a peaceful picture, and ends
with a feeling of reasoning, using a sense of the word. But it is different from traditional feeling
poetry, but it uses some dramatic treatment techniques, in the way of the poet s monologue. The
dramatic scene in the poem is the night of the moon, in a house on Dover s seashore, where people
sail across the English Channel to French ports. The poem started when the tidewas full, and the sea
was calm, and everything seemed so quiet under the moonlight. Such good night is a perfect time
for the lovers to date. So, the poet could not help but telling his lover, Come to the window, how
sweet the evening breeze is! But then came the waves at low tide from the gravel. It gently and
repeatedly chanted the beat, recalled the poet endless thoughts, turning the scenery into lyrical
poetry, giving the expression with the development of the poet s thoughts. The poet begins by
connecting the changes of the tides to the fate of the people, because the tides, though rising and

Key Security Position And Security
Key establishment [24] deals with establishing a shared secret key between two or more parties.
One can easily achieve the security services like confidentiality or data integrity. Methods for key
establishment can be classified into two types namely, key transport protocols and key agreement
protocols. A keyprotocol is a technique in which only one party creates or obtains secret value,
and securely transfers it to others. In key agreement protocol two or more parties derive the shared
secret where all parties contribute to the secret. Ideally, no single party can control what the final

MANETs are a kind of wireless ad hoc network (WANET) that usually has a routable networking

Reconstruction phase. We implement the verification property of VSS in verifying shares. This
property is additionally ensured with the help of commitments in secret sharing schemes like
Shamir s secret sharing. We proceed by having knowledge on adhoc on demand routing protocol
(AODV), Destination Sequence distance vector (DSDV) protocols and using them in ns 2. In this
project nodes verify shares through commitments when the source sends shares of secret key to
destination on multiple ways and the destination reconstructs it by collecting all individual shares.
After keys sharing, the encrypted packets are send from source to destination at a specified time
during runtime.

Overcoming Obstacles Of Martial Arts
Imagine watching an average sized man use technique and confidence to overpower an opponent
twice his size, defying the odds that were set against him. Royce Gracie began competing at the
age of eight. Among his many accomplishments as a child, at the age of sixteen he received his
blue belt, and was promoted to a black belt less than two years later. He also became an instructor
for Gracie Jiu Jitsu within the same year (Dzyn studio, 2014). Royce competed against opponents
fifty pounds over his weight. He performed at amazing rates and overcome many obstacles with his
determination and the techniques taught to him throughout his training experiences. Although
some people believe that martial arts is rooted in violence, it is quite contrary.

What is Female Circumsicion Essay
Female Circumcision The World Health Organization defines female circumcision as a procedure
involving partial or total removal of the external genitalia for cultural, religious, or non therapeutic
reasons(1). It is commonly practiced by Muslims in Africa and various parts of the Middle East.
According to Loretta Kopelman, there are over 80 million women who have had some variation of
this procedure. Female circumcision is categorized into three types; Type one is the complete or
partial removal of the clitoris, type two removes the clitoris completely as well as some of the labia
minora, and type three is known as Infibulation, the sewing shut of the vulvaleaving only a hole big

There is no hygienic or medical benefit for circumcising a female. Also, a male is circumcised
shortly after birth, whereas females experience this procedure at much later ages such as seven or
eight. In 2012, the U.N. passed a resolution that condemns female genital mutilation, or
circumcision, as harmful to women and girls (Kolodny). This article argues that female genital
mutilation should be a crime, not a cultural practice, but even if there was some way to make this
practice illegal, how would it ever be enforced in the lawless countries that it is commonly
practiced. Cultural relativism is a concept that the norms, values, morals, and beliefs of a particular
culture cannot be judged as right or wrong, moral or not moral, by a culture that may not share the
same beliefs as the other culture. In the case of the article, Female Genital Mutilation: Crime or
Culture, because of cultural relativism, the practice of circumcising a female is not a crime, but a
cultural practice that upholds the traditions of that culture. The concept of cultural relativism also
keeps the practice of this genital mutilation from being judged by other societies, such as the views
that the people in the United States have against a procedure like this. People who want to continue
these practices resent cross cultural criticisms, seeing them as assaults on their social traditions and
identity (Kopelman, 221). In cultures

Enlightenment And The Scientific Revolution
Thirty Years War and Scientific Revolution were two major causes that led to the developing of a
new intellectual and philosophical movement called Enlightenment, or the Age of Reason.
Religion, power of human reason, natural law, individualism, hope, progress and many other
concepts were combined into a worldview that contributed to new innovations and changed people
s lives and visions. This period marked the importance of science. By using the scientific method,
people were able to make progress toward a better society.
One of the main characteristics of Enlightenment was reason, which was considered by
philosophers the most significant human aptitude. All ideas and opinions are supported by a
specific reason. Logical arguments were successfully used in science, mathematics, biology,
politics, arts. The use of rationality influenced the appearance of different moral values responsible
for a person s behavior or principles of artistic taste, called ethics and aesthetics.
Isaac Newton had a great impact on eighteenth century intellectuals such as Voltaire, Montesquieu,
Diderot, Smith and others. They believed that Isaac Newton s scientific methods could be used in
discovering natural laws, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ideas of Enlightenment shaped different political, cultural, religious attitudes and they are used
all around the world; for example the separation of power in three branches and the use of
encyclopedia. The appearance of newspapers and magazines was developed during the
Enlightenment. The use of reason and logic led to a change in people s way of thinking. People
started to view the world differently. It led to improvement of society and all of the discoveries led
to an incredible progress. The ideas of Enlightenment made our world a better place in which logic,
reason, scientific methods, natural law and individualism are the main

Secret Sorrow Analysis
Do you have a favourite genre for stories? Stories come in all sorts of genres and themes. They
attract different types of audiences because they make connections with some readers. For
example, A Secret Sorrow is more Fantasy, and A Sorrowful Woman is more realistic. Audiences
like me enjoy fantasy stories since we have an interest in the loveconnection to the characters. I
prefer A Secret Sorrow because of fantasy, relatability, and love.
In a secret sorrow, Kai and Faye show an example of a fantasy story. His eyes held her locked in
unrelenting demand Why should I be disappointed? (Page 33, Paragraph 52) Kai presents like a
prince that cares for Faye because these actions are not seen often in the real world. Most males
do not act like him. They are rougher and not understanding. They do not know how to respond
like Kai. Kai responds in a way that makes Faye feel special and wanted. Kai in a way tells Faye
that she is wonderful and he will only love her. This novel is written for the female audience, which
is why Kai is able to speak the way he speaks. Without even knocking he came into her room and
walked over to the bed. She could feel the mattress sag as his weight came down on it. Her heart
was pounding like a sledgehammer, and then his arms came around her and he drew her against
him. Faye, he said quietly, please marry me. (Page 34, Paragraph 73 74). This part of the story can
make the audience fulfill their dream of this romantic scene. The man you

Aquinas Vs Hobbes
Topic sentence. Thomas Hobbes interpretation of natural law is not only radically different, but
inconsistent with the traditional view. This can be seen through the similarities and differences
found when comparing Thomas Hobbes theory, and Thomas Aquinas theory in regards to their
view of man s ultimate goal, their definition of natural law in regards to its relationship with human
rationality, and lastly how they view the meaning and relationship of divine providence and
religion in natural law. The following pages will define natural law, and will analyze all three issues
listed above through comparing and contrasting Hobbes and Aquinas view. Hobbes view is
utilitarian. The Leviathan is the marking of when traditional natural law... Show more content on

In Hobbes....he reveals how firmly he disagrees with traditional natural law theorists, Hobbes
sates that, I put for a general inclination of all mankind a perpetual and restless desire of power
after power that ceases only in death. In other words, Hobbes reveals that he believes that men
cannot be satisfied by the cultivation of virtue as a political end; man will fight for more power
until the fight itself kills them. According to source Hobbes states that, All men have in
common is the continual fear and danger of violent death (Hobbes, 1956: Ch.13, 107 108).
Hobbes is basically stating that because death is less likely to occur when there is peace, men
will therefore desire a peaceful society only because it is in their best interest. Source , Hobbes
states that, The passions that incline men to peace are fear of death, desire of such tings are
necessary to commodious living, and a hope by their industry to obtain them. These are prime
examples of where the tradition view towards natural law contrasts with Hobbes theory. Natural
law tradition generally believes it is human nature to have peace, and avoid evil, where Hobbes on
the other hands believes man is only interested in having peace because it is for his own benefit. In
current terms, Hobbes has a more realist view on natural law tradition. Thomas Hobbes and Thomas
Aquinas have radically different perspectives on how the term natural law should be perceived.

Quotes From The Bean Trees
While displaying doubt to her mother about being able to get the job Mr Walter was offering,
her mother expresses her faith in Taylor on page 7 of The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver by
saying, The way I see it, a person isn t nothing more than a scarecrow...the only difference
between one that stands up good and one that blows over is what they are stuck up on. She
knows that Taylor can handle whatever challenges the job presents her with and wants her to
realize that in herself she has the power to do it, now all she has to do is use what she knows to
get the job. Mama says this to her in a knowing way, because while Taylor does not realize
herself she can get the job, Mama knows she can. A few days after Mama tells her this, she uses
her backbone she is up on and tells Mr Walter that since he hasn t made his mind up, she is going
to be doing the job. Mama lights a fire in Taylor she didn t know she had by saying this quote, that
she takes to heart throughout the rest of the novel.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She uses this when receiving Turtle because instead of leaving her and seeing her as a problem,
she takes her with and grows attached to her. She uses this to make friends, and to get help that
she needs when leaving her home. When illegally transporting Estevan and Esperanza, this
message is clear, because she is sure of herself that they will make it there safely. She is sure of
herself, and Turtle more so than at the end of the novel than at the beginning because they have
been through a lot, and know that she will always have her friends to be there as her stalk when
things get difficult. She now also understands how important she is to everyone else, helping them

Persuasive Essay On Wind Power
Have you ever driven down highway 30 in west central Iowa at night, looked out the window and
seen hundreds of red flashing lights? How about driving through north Lincoln and seeing two
enormous white turbines spinning in the wind? If you did not know previously, the red flashing
lights at night and white turbines are windmills used for generating power. These windmills can
produce 2.5 to 3 megawatts of electricity daily. Wind powercan be easily used to generate electric
for both personal and public use. Looking at the benefits of wind power over fossil fuels, uses of
wind power for personal and public use, and the effects of global warming on wind power, you can
decide if using wind energy is a good option or not.
Using wind to generate power is a clean alternative to using coal, oil, or other non renewable
resources. Since wind is clean, it doesn t pollute the environment and doesn t need any bad
chemicals for power generation. The decision to use natural wind power over fossil fuels also
reduces our country s need to buy fossil fuels from other countries, and also the use of coal and oil
from our own country. This helps to strengthen parts of our economy by using harnessing free
resources for making our power (Rinkesh).
Wind power can also benefit land owners who rent their pastures out for wind farms. This can get
the land owners some extra money to put into their savings for the future or spending fund, and
also gives new jobs to the engineers who build turbines and

  • 2. Ssmu 3.1 Essay SSMU3.1 Understanding Sensory Loss Gemma Nelson (Ashcroft House) 1.1 Analyse how a range of factors can impact on individuals with sensory loss * Impact on Communication Sensory loss can frequently lead to isolation and frustration at not being able to communicate efficiently with other people. With hearing loss, day to day activities such as hearing a doorbell, using the telephone, watching television or taking part in conversations can produce feelings of inadequacy within the individual. Not being able to distinguish faces, read the time on a clock or drive can produce the same feelings in a person who has vision loss. Hearing loss interferes with face to face communication and can often cause older people to lose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Society is better than it used to be at recognising the needs of deaf people; there are more public buildings such as cinemas, theatres and conference facilities that have loop systems so that people who can use hearing aids are able to listen to what is being said or performed. There some events that now have signers to translate speeches and performances. Many television programmes now have access to subtitles and some have signers, although these tend to be late at night. People with any kind of sensory loss can have difficulties in finding employment. Even though the Equality Act and the Disability Discrimination Act mean that employers cannot discriminate, it is hard to convince an employer that a sensory loss does not necessarily mean that someone is unable to do a job. Attitudes such as these can make it difficult for people to maintain self esteem and can destroy confidence, with the result that they will attempt less, rely on others more and potentially lose their independence. However, there have been some major shifts in attitudes as initiatives such as Our Health Our Care Our Say , Putting People First and Valuing People are changing how we look at disability and making people aware that all disabled people have the right to take a full part in society. 1.3 Explore how a range of factors, societal attitudes and beliefs impact on service provision The social model of ... • 4. Charlotte Beers At Ogilvy And Mather Essay examples BACKGROUND Charlotte Beers became Ogilvy Mather s first outsider CEO after its acquisition by WPP Group Plc in 1991. According to her memo dated May 19th, Beers objective was to re invent the mega agency, whose inertia and complacency had eroded its competitiveness since the 1980s. In fact, Beer s tenure at Ogilvy constituted a re creation of the agency, redefining its aims, processes, people, and structure in reaction to the demands placed by the changing advertising industry. ANALYSIS The main issue that confronted Beers was initiating and instituting organizational change at the core level. She assumed the leadership of Ogilvy at a time when the organization was internally bleeding. Charismatic founder David Ogilvy s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, Ogilvy s chronic failure to institute systems for managing collaboration across regions contributed to a general lack of financial discipline, lack of focus on cost, and lack of structured decision making that had cumulative negative effects on the company. As a result, Ogilvy s competitive advantage as the most local of the internationals, the most international of the locals was undermined by competitors consistently lower costs. Compounding Ogilvy s problems was the perception that media advertising was a mere commodity, leading bargain hunting clients fled to new, lower cost boutique creative shops. Ultimately, despite its consistent 15% up market performance, and the success of the independent subsidiary Ogilvy Direct, Ogilvy lost over $100 million in advertising contracts from longtime clients including Unilever, Shell, Seagram s, Nutrasweet, Campbell, Roy Rogers and American Express. Its net income actually decreased by 2.8% in 1991. Clearly, beleaguered Ogilvy s new CEO needed to prevent further decline by instituting changes that were long overdue: 1.Redefine the corporate vision based on Brand Stewardship; 2.Modify the organizational structure to facilitate collaboration among the company s various regional and local offices and central office; and 3.Resolve the centralization vs. localization issue more definitively, in terms of authority and compensation. • 6. Different Periods Of Music Have Different Characteristics Different periods of music have different characteristics. For impressionist era, it was between romantic period and the 20th century. There were some similarities within these two periods, like the contrasts of dynamics and pitch in the former period, while the melody is fragmented in the latter period. One of the famous composers, Claude Debussy, liked to compose musicthrough harmony and exotic scale. An example of his pieces was Danse sacree et profane composed in 1904. It consists of two parts with the meaning of sacred and profane, and most characteristics of the 20th century music. The two parts of Danse sacree et profane are not fully distinct but give me different feelings. What I first heard was the narrow use of instruments that is performed by a string orchestra, consisting of two violins, cello, viola, and double bass. These emphasize the solo Harp used in this piece and outline its characteristics. The piece is well organized as the Harp plays the main melody of this music, while the strings are used for accompaniment. The orchestration moves between strings and the harp, and plays open octaves that are in unison with melody in a few moments. Overall, the melodies move slightly with simple intervals and straightforward rhythmic patterns. Whole tone scales are used throughout two parts, which is one of the most common practices by Debussy. Moreover, this piece is in the binary form due to the division of two parts. Yet, it can be considered as a rounded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparison Of The Chrysanthemums And The White Quail Compare and Contrast The Long Valley Two characters, Elisa Allen and Mary Teller, struggle with the idea of being accepted into the society of the 1930s. Women s rights were not fully accepted in the 1930s, and these two characters were set in the common day view of men and women. In the 1930s, [Society has] assigned to white women such roles as housewife, secretary, PTA chairman, and schoolteacher. Black women can now be schoolteachers, too, but they are most prominently assigned to such domestic roles as maid, cook, waitress, and babysitter (Chisholm 123). These assigned roles have impacted women around the world, including the two characters in these short stories The Chrysanthemums and The White Quail . Not being activists in women s rights, these women conformed to society and lived their lives as any typical housewife in the 1930s. Their passions and choices during this time affected their way of living and relationships. The two stories reflect similarities of the women s love for gardening and lonely marriages, but also reflect their different viewpoints on the world they live in. The two housewives have a passionate love for gardening and bestow their love and appreciation towards their gardens. In the twentieth century, gardening was advocated as beneficial to one s life and family. In the New England Quarterly, the journal, Gardening as Women s Culture in Mary E. (Nygren) Alexie s stories are engaging and touch readers even though the atmosphere of violence, alcoholism, and poverty pervades much of Alexie s writing whether the setting is on or off the reservation (Donovan 21). Many of Alexie s stories take place on the reservation and some take place in urban cities such as What You Pawn I Will Redeem, although the characters are far from the harsh life of the reservations, the bad things in life seem to follow them. Alexie s fictional reservation is a place where his characters are tormented by collective memories of a genocidal past, of cavalry approved hangings, massacres, and smallpox infected blankets (Nygren). The Beginning Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen discovered X rays on November 8, 1895. About 14 days after Roentgen first noticed radiation activity, a man by the name of Friedrich Walkhoff performed the first dental X ray. He did the X ray on himself first for twenty five minutes and then on patients for thirty. He would carry a photographic plate in his pocket to see if he was getting too much exposure and then develop it each night. Wagner was unable to perfect his idea because he died six months later from cancer(Kathern, Ziemer, 1980, p. 3). In the 1920 s other methods of protection were introduced. The film badge became a routine monitoring device. The unit to measure radiation was established and named the Roentgen, and the first tolerance dose was created (Kathern, Ziemer 1980, p. 4). The argument is not whether poaching is a problem or not, it is obviously a problem, it is an argument on how humanity should go about stopping poaching. One side of that argument believes that going after the people behind poaching, those who buy poached ivoryfor example, is more important than stopping poachers on the ground . They would be more likely to support a United Nations sanction on poaching than providing funding for ranger groups. The other side of the argument is that the effort to stop poaching has become an all out war and needs to be treated as such. They believe rangers need access to modern weapons and technology, training and funding. They argue if the poachers have it, the rangers trying to stop them need to have it too.... Located where North Vietnam, South Vietnam, and Laos came together, the Khe Sanh base was important for American forces, as it enabled troops to gather information about the traffic on the Ho Chi Minh Trail. However, the Communists also admired the region around Khe Sanh, since it could act as an avenue into Southern Vietnam. Though the operation had good intentions, a part of it showed how badly the morale of most US leaders became on January 23, one of the resupply planes unloaded four large crates addressed to Fifth Graves Registration Team, Khe Sanh and inside which were 4,000 pounds of body bags. It was evident that the American leaders and troops needed a boost in morale. Commander William H. Dabney, who commanded an outpost during the siege, realized this, and so he and his men decided to raise the American flag as an act of defiance against the enemy. Caputo writes that Commander Dabney recalled: So daily, at eight o clock, precisely at eight o clock, [the enemy] targeted us [with mortar and artillery fire], and we would raise the flag. • 17. Designing The Efficient Scheduling Methods For Real Time... Abstract In this research we are presenting the problem of designing the efficient scheduling methods for real time systems. The real time scheduling problem is nothing but the scheduling problem in which QoS requirements should be satisfied along with task scheduling. The main objective of scheduling problem is designing the time and QoS efficient scheduling algorithm to schedule tasks optimally those are waiting to be served. We presented the literature study on different existing scheduling policies with its limitations. Therefore in this research, we are presenting new Dynamic Multilevel Priority (DMP) method of scheduling policy for RTS. As the name indicates, this method works dynamically and as per the requirement of task scheduling. DMP algorithm is designed with three different queues of tasks/demands scheduling based on nature of tasks. In first queue, security/urgency related demands should be proceed with highest priority, in second queue with second highest priority, regular demands should be proceed, while last queue is used to serve local non real time demands. In first queue, real time packets processed with highest priority. Thus this scheduling policy does not hold any demand for longer waiting period and hence improves the overall QoS performance of RTSs. The practical evaluation of proposed methodology is done by using UPPAAL tool. We have considered train gate example for evaluation of proposed scheduling policy. Keyword: Real Time ... These little things have become one amongst the most important things to survive. Mobile phones have become ubiquitous; you can find a fifth grade kid with a smartphone. There are more than a billion smartphones in the market and six billion mobile phone subscriptions. With the rapid development of smartphones, things like watches, radios, cameras, calculators and so on are fading out of the market. In the near future, we might be giving up our leather wallet for a digital wallet. Digital Wallets are not new; in fact, the first was released about four years ago. Since then, many other companies have followed the same path, creating their own versions with their own unique features. Apple, Google, Samsung, and PayPal all quickly developed a digital wallet, most compatible with all smartphones with the exception of Apple and Samsung. Both Apple and Samsung only allow their digital wallets, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay, to be used on the smartphones and smartwatches their companies develop. However, all of these mobile payment systems use the same technology to pass credentials, near field communication (NFC) readers, with one exception, Samsung Pay. Samsung Pay still uses NFC readers, but it also uses magnetic secure transmission (MST), which means that Samsung Pay will work with all types of point of sale (POS) devices (old and new). Although there are numerous words in Farsi, most are explained right away to limit confusion. You look khoshteep , Baba said. Handsome ( Hosseini 166). Hosseini incorporates an abundance of figurative language in his book, an example of this is repetition. The line, There is a way to be good again is said several times throughout the book to show its significance in the novel (Hosseini 2). Figurative language is extremely important because it adds a meaning and value that is much stronger than saying it differently. Hosseini uses many symbols in his novel. One, in particular, shows the loss of friendship between Amir and Hassan, the pomegranate tree. In the beginning, Amir and Hassan would go to the tree to read stories and eat pomegranates. After school, Hassan and I climbed its branches and snatched its bloodred pomegranates (Hosseini 27 28). After Hassan had been raped, Amir and Hassan had gone back to the tree but this time the loss of friendship starts to show through. When Amir throws pomegranates at Hassan, it is him trying to get Haasan to punish Amir for what he had done wrong. Hit me back! I spat. Hit me back, goddamn you ! I wished he would. I wished he d give me the punishment I craved, so maybe I d finally sleep at night (Hosseini 92). Amir needs the punishment he deserves so badly from the awful things he did and now wants to live up to. Once Amir goes back to visit his home in Kabul, he finds the pomegranate tree that once was a symbol of friendship, and now the loss of just that. Hassan said in his letter that the pomegranate tree hadn t borne fruit in years. Looking at the wilted, leafless tree, I doubted it ever would again (Hosseini 264). The pomegranate tree shows how during their friendship, the tree was beautiful and full of life. Now that Amir has betrayed Hassan and left him to be killed, the tree is now lifeless and no fruit to be eaten symbolizing the end of their relationship. Another symbol that is extremely important is the flying of kites. This is significant because it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. How Gender Comes Into Play In my previous paper I was very interested in how gender comes into play when it comes to how people balance paid work and family time. This was really interesting to me because as a daughter I was really interested to see if any of the themes that I saw reminded of when I was young. Even more than that, however, I was interested to see what might happen to me as I get older, get married, and start having children. While I am young now, I am very eager to settle down and have a familyso I was very curious at the different themes that I would see when I interviewed a married women, who was Named Lucy . The themes that I did see in my research were inequality, a very traditional family dynamic (which I thought was caused by a gender trap), and family myths. The division of household labor in this family was very traditional, the mother, who I interviewed, was the one who did most, if not all, of the household labor along with working a full time job. That led me to believe that they had a very traditional family dynamic, even though that might not be the true ideology of the women I interviewed. I picked up on a few things while I was interviewing her that I think led to the traditional division of labor. I thought that they were very much caught in a gender trap, meaning that they think that they have to do what is typical for their gender. That meant that the childcare and the housework, which is seen as more of a feminine, were up to Lucy. The other things that were seen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Crisis was ultimately a showdown between the United States and the Soviet Union from October 16 to October 28, 1962. During those thirteen stressful days, the world s two biggest superpowers stood on the brink of a nuclear catastrophe. The Crisis started as a result of both the Soviet Union s fear of losing the arms race, and Cuba s fear of US invasion. The Soviet Premier, Nikita Khrushchev, thought that both problems could easily be solved by placing Soviet medium range missiles in Cuba. What worried Khrushchev the most, though, was that the Soviet missiles were only powerful enough to be launched against Europe, but the US missiles were capable of striking the entire Soviet Union. He worried that if the Soviet Union lost the arms race that badly, it would invite a nuclear attack from the US. Khrushchev needed a way to counter the United State s lead. (May 49) In April of 1962, Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev came up with the idea of installing medium range missiles in Cuba. Cuba was close enough to the United States that the Soviet missiles would be an effective deterrent to a potential US attack against either the Soviet Union or Cuba. Castro accepted Khrushchev s offer, since it would protect Cuba and, therefore, solve Castro s previous dilemma. In mid July of 1962, the Soviet Union began its buildup of offensive weapons in Cuba. The Soviets spent most of the late summer and early fall of 1962 ferrying launch equipment and personnel necessary for the preparation of missiles to Cuba. Since they could not use military ships (for fear of being discovered) the Soviets used civilian vessels. However, even with this caution, their actions were detected. There are two types of hypertension which are the primary (essential) hypertension and secondary hypertension. Essential hypertension is referred to patients with hypertensionwithout any secondary identifiable cause. They came to realize that the light and air interposed between viewers and what they see are two parts of the visual experience called distance (Kleiner 242). Masaccio s painting helps to remind people of the law that was set by the one we serve, which was to pay your taxes. Yes that did come from God for those who do not know history. • 39. Critical Appreciation Of Dover Beach Eternal Note of Elegy A sensitive mind can often feel the essence of The Times more deeply than its peers. Matthew Arnold is an obvious example. When British empire was beguiled by the prosperity of the surface of Victoria Time, as a poet and scholar, he wrote in his top ranking poem Dover beach sang desperate elegy for the crisis in the whole western civilization. In nature, Dover beach is a masterpiece recalling with emotion. It starts with a peaceful picture, and ends with a feeling of reasoning, using a sense of the word. But it is different from traditional feeling poetry, but it uses some dramatic treatment techniques, in the way of the poet s monologue. The dramatic scene in the poem is the night of the moon, in a house on Dover s seashore, where people sail across the English Channel to French ports. The poem started when the tidewas full, and the sea was calm, and everything seemed so quiet under the moonlight. Such good night is a perfect time for the lovers to date. So, the poet could not help but telling his lover, Come to the window, how sweet the evening breeze is! But then came the waves at low tide from the gravel. It gently and repeatedly chanted the beat, recalled the poet endless thoughts, turning the scenery into lyrical poetry, giving the expression with the development of the poet s thoughts. The poet begins by connecting the changes of the tides to the fate of the people, because the tides, though rising and falling, are always the symbol of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Key Security Position And Security Key establishment [24] deals with establishing a shared secret key between two or more parties. One can easily achieve the security services like confidentiality or data integrity. Methods for key establishment can be classified into two types namely, key transport protocols and key agreement protocols. A keyprotocol is a technique in which only one party creates or obtains secret value, and securely transfers it to others. In key agreement protocol two or more parties derive the shared secret where all parties contribute to the secret. Ideally, no single party can control what the final joint value will be. Our key establishment protocol uses the key agreement protocol based on verifiable secret sharing scheme and bilinear pairings.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... MANETs are a kind of wireless ad hoc network (WANET) that usually has a routable networking environment on top of a Link Layer ad hoc network. Advantage in MANETs is consisting of a peer to peer, self forming, self healing network. Key agreement protocols are one of the fundamental primitives of cryptography, and allow users to establish session keys securely in the presence of an active adversary. For this we use verifiable secret sharing (VSS) and bilinear concepts in our project. In cryptography, a secret sharing scheme is verifiable when the nodes are allowed to verify their shares as consistent. A VSS has three phases: a Distribution phase, Verification phase and Reconstruction phase. We implement the verification property of VSS in verifying shares. This property is additionally ensured with the help of commitments in secret sharing schemes like Shamir s secret sharing. We proceed by having knowledge on adhoc on demand routing protocol (AODV), Destination Sequence distance vector (DSDV) protocols and using them in ns 2. In this project nodes verify shares through commitments when the source sends shares of secret key to destination on multiple ways and the destination reconstructs it by collecting all individual shares. After keys sharing, the encrypted packets are send from source to destination at a specified time during runtime. In our project we implement two party key agreement for MANET environment without ... • 42. What is Female Circumsicion Essay Female Circumcision The World Health Organization defines female circumcision as a procedure involving partial or total removal of the external genitalia for cultural, religious, or non therapeutic reasons(1). It is commonly practiced by Muslims in Africa and various parts of the Middle East. According to Loretta Kopelman, there are over 80 million women who have had some variation of this procedure. Female circumcision is categorized into three types; Type one is the complete or partial removal of the clitoris, type two removes the clitoris completely as well as some of the labia minora, and type three is known as Infibulation, the sewing shut of the vulvaleaving only a hole big enough for urine and menstrual blood to pass, after... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is no hygienic or medical benefit for circumcising a female. Also, a male is circumcised shortly after birth, whereas females experience this procedure at much later ages such as seven or eight. In 2012, the U.N. passed a resolution that condemns female genital mutilation, or circumcision, as harmful to women and girls (Kolodny). This article argues that female genital mutilation should be a crime, not a cultural practice, but even if there was some way to make this practice illegal, how would it ever be enforced in the lawless countries that it is commonly practiced. Cultural relativism is a concept that the norms, values, morals, and beliefs of a particular culture cannot be judged as right or wrong, moral or not moral, by a culture that may not share the same beliefs as the other culture. In the case of the article, Female Genital Mutilation: Crime or Culture, because of cultural relativism, the practice of circumcising a female is not a crime, but a cultural practice that upholds the traditions of that culture. The concept of cultural relativism also keeps the practice of this genital mutilation from being judged by other societies, such as the views that the people in the United States have against a procedure like this. People who want to continue these practices resent cross cultural criticisms, seeing them as assaults on their social traditions and identity (Kopelman, 221). In cultures ... Religion, power of human reason, natural law, individualism, hope, progress and many other concepts were combined into a worldview that contributed to new innovations and changed people s lives and visions. This period marked the importance of science. By using the scientific method, people were able to make progress toward a better society. One of the main characteristics of Enlightenment was reason, which was considered by philosophers the most significant human aptitude. All ideas and opinions are supported by a specific reason. • 45. Secret Sorrow Analysis Do you have a favourite genre for stories? Stories come in all sorts of genres and themes. They attract different types of audiences because they make connections with some readers. For example, A Secret Sorrow is more Fantasy, and A Sorrowful Woman is more realistic. Audiences like me enjoy fantasy stories since we have an interest in the loveconnection to the characters. I prefer A Secret Sorrow because of fantasy, relatability, and love. In a secret sorrow, Kai and Faye show an example of a fantasy story. His eyes held her locked in unrelenting demand Why should I be disappointed? (Page 33, Paragraph 52) Kai presents like a prince that cares for Faye because these actions are not seen often in the real world. Most males do not act like him. They are rougher and not understanding. They do not know how to respond like Kai. Kai responds in a way that makes Faye feel special and wanted. Kai in a way tells Faye that she is wonderful and he will only love her. This novel is written for the female audience, which is why Kai is able to speak the way he speaks. Without even knocking he came into her room and walked over to the bed. She could feel the mattress sag as his weight came down on it. Her heart was pounding like a sledgehammer, and then his arms came around her and he drew her against him. Faye, he said quietly, please marry me. (Page 34, Paragraph 73 74). This can be seen through the similarities and differences found when comparing Thomas Hobbes theory, and Thomas Aquinas theory in regards to their view of man s ultimate goal, their definition of natural law in regards to its relationship with human rationality, and lastly how they view the meaning and relationship of divine providence and religion in natural law. The following pages will define natural law, and will analyze all three issues listed above through comparing and contrasting Hobbes and Aquinas view. Hobbes view is utilitarian. In Hobbes....he reveals how firmly he disagrees with traditional natural law theorists, Hobbes sates that, I put for a general inclination of all mankind a perpetual and restless desire of power after power that ceases only in death. In other words, Hobbes reveals that he believes that men cannot be satisfied by the cultivation of virtue as a political end; man will fight for more power until the fight itself kills them. According to source Hobbes states that, All men have in common is the continual fear and danger of violent death (Hobbes, 1956: Ch.13, 107 108). Hobbes is basically stating that because death is less likely to occur when there is peace, men will therefore desire a peaceful society only because it is in their best interest. Source , Hobbes states that, The passions that incline men to peace are fear of death, desire of such tings are necessary to commodious living, and a hope by their industry to obtain them. These are prime examples of where the tradition view towards natural law contrasts with Hobbes theory. Natural law tradition generally believes it is human nature to have peace, and avoid evil, where Hobbes on the other hands believes man is only interested in having peace because it is for his own benefit. In current terms, Hobbes has a more realist view on natural law tradition. Thomas Hobbes and Thomas Aquinas have radically different perspectives on how the term natural law should be perceived. • 48. Persuasive Essay On Wind Power Have you ever driven down highway 30 in west central Iowa at night, looked out the window and seen hundreds of red flashing lights? How about driving through north Lincoln and seeing two enormous white turbines spinning in the wind? If you did not know previously, the red flashing lights at night and white turbines are windmills used for generating power. These windmills can produce 2.5 to 3 megawatts of electricity daily. Wind powercan be easily used to generate electric for both personal and public use. Looking at the benefits of wind power over fossil fuels, uses of wind power for personal and public use, and the effects of global warming on wind power, you can decide if using wind energy is a good option or not. Using wind to generate power is a clean alternative to using coal, oil, or other non renewable resources. Since wind is clean, it doesn t pollute the environment and doesn t need any bad chemicals for power generation. The decision to use natural wind power over fossil fuels also reduces our country s need to buy fossil fuels from other countries, and also the use of coal and oil from our own country. This helps to strengthen parts of our economy by using harnessing free resources for making our power (Rinkesh). Wind power can also benefit land owners who rent their pastures out for wind farms. This can get the land owners some extra money to put into their savings for the future or spending fund, and also gives new jobs to the engineers who build turbines and ...
