Essay on Abstinence-Only Sex Education does work.
Abstinence only Sex Education does work.
Teenage sexual activity has sparked an outcry within the nation. With such activity comes a high
price. Studies have shown that there has been a significant rise in the number of children with
sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), emotional and psychological problems, and out of wedlock
childbearing. Sex has always been discussed publically by the media, television shows, music and
occasionally by parents and teachers in educational context. Teens hear them, and as the saying
goes, monkey see, monkey do , they are tempted to experiment with it. Therefore, it is important for
every teenager to be aware of the outcome associated with premature sex. If students are educated

Programs that encourage abstinence have become a vital part of school systems in the US. These
programs are usually referred to as abstinence only or value based programs while other programs
are called as safer sex, comprehensive, secular or abstinence plus programs which on the contrary
promote the usage of effective contraception. Although abstinence only and safer sex programs
disagree with one another, their core values and stand on the aims of sex education is to help teens
develop problem solving skills and the skill of good decision making. They believe that
adolescents will be better prepared to act responsibly in the heat of the moment (Silva). Most
programs that have been currently implemented in the US have seen a delay in the initiation of sex
among teens which proves to be a positive and desirable outcome (Silva).
Statistics from recent studies suggest that only 13% of U.S. teens have ever had sex by the age of
15. But by the age of 19, seven in ten teens of both sexes have had sex. Between 1995 and 2006
2008, the percentage of teens aged 15 17 who had ever engaged in sexual intercourse declined from
38% to 28%. Among teens aged 18 19, it declined from 68% in 1995 to 60% in 2006 2008. The
pregnancy rate among young women has declined steadily from 117 pregnancies per 1,000 women
aged 15 19 in 1990 to 70 per 1,000 in 2005. However in 2006, the rate increased for the first time in
more than a decade, rising to

Status And Social Status
It is said that humans are social beings and we want to connect with other people, therefore it
should come as no surprise that social interaction is an essential part of our everyday lives.
Social interaction is a dynamic sequence of social actions between two or more individuals or
groups and the foundation of social structures. Social structures are patterns that guide our
behaviour in everyday life and there are two building blocks of social structure, status and role. A
status is a culturally defined social position that is a part of our social identity that defines our
relationship to others. Statuses can be ascribed, achieved or master. An ascribed status is fixed and
involuntary, it is a status we are often born into such as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we choose to become a parents, husband and wife also become father and mother and the boy
or girl born is given the status of baby. As a mother and father, each has a responsibility to love,
protect and teach their baby about right and wrong, how to speak and use language, both verbal and
non verbal to communicate. Parents have an important role as a baby s first teacher, the foundation
socialization. In Belize, as a multi cultural nation, babies may be taught by parents to speak the
language of their culture for example Mennonites may speak German or Spanish, the Garinagu
speak Garifuna and the Hispanics speak Spanish. However, as an English speaking nation,
mothers and fathers also teach their baby to speak English so that they can interact with other
people in society. Eventually as a baby grows into a toddler, an understanding develops about the
role of a mother and father and the toddler learns that parents should be given respect which
influences the interaction between parents and children throughout their lifetime. In our society
and societies around the world, children are taught from an early age to not only to show respect
for parents but to show respect for elders as well. If we were to think back to our childhood, we
would remember being afraid to answer our parent questions or commands in an ill or threatening
manner. A sure that we bid them time of day to our elders and said please and thank you.

Feminist Perspective of John Steinbeck’s The...
A Feminist Perspective of John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums
John Steinbeck, in his short story The Chrysanthemums depicts the trials of a woman attempting
to gain power in a man s world. Elisa Allen tries to define the boundaries of her role as a woman
in such a closed society. While her environment is portrayed as a tool for social repression, it is
through nature in her garden where Elisa gains and shows off her power. As the story progresses,
Elisa has trouble extending this power outside of the fence that surrounds her garden. In the end,
Elisa learns but does not readily accept, that she possesses a feminine power weak for the time, not
the masculine one she had tried so hard to achieve through its imitation.

They look at a tractor and smoke, manly things, as they conclude their man s work. Just as their
environment surrounds all persons, fences surround animals and men surround women.
As she looks out to these men, we look at Elisa. Although she is doing the feminine work of
gardening, she is dressed like a man. She wore a black hat low on her forehead to cover her hair,
thick leather gloves covered her hands, and clodhopper shoes covering her small woman s feet. A
big corduroy apron covered the dress making her figure look blocked and heavy (396).
Unconsciously, as she looks through her fence at the men talking business, she is trying to cover up
her feminine qualities. She longs to be in their position and possess their characteristics.
As she does her gardening, something she enjoys and excels in, Her face was lean and strong...
eager and mature and handsome (396). Her use of the scissors is described as over eager and
over powerful (397). All of these characteristics are usually masculine adjectives. But in this case
they describe a woman attempting or at least imagining living as a part of such a man s world.
Yet Elisa s power is not used for masculine activities; in fact, her power is derived from a feminine
source, nature. Mother Nature, a female, controls the environment. This female power is part of
matriarchal lineage since Elisa a mother also could stick anything in the

T-V-Pointer Experience
Firstly I would like to start off by mentioning I am an Engineer so my week was different than
the rest of my shipmates however, I think the trip was an invaluable resource, especially as a
senior, keeping my skills sharp for the merchant fleet I will soon be joining. Every time I take a
trip on the T/V Kings Pointer I am impressed at how my shipmates and I are able to safely
navigate and operate a vessel. This is a true testament to the education we receive at the
Academy and during our time at Sea. With great weather, our time in Virginia was just as
impressive when pulling into Norfolk harbor. Seeing the stern of the USS Wisconsin, as a relic
of one of the greatest vessels our American Shipyards have produced, was just icing on the cake
compared to the Countless US Naval destroyers and cruisers and aircraft carriers we passed while
transiting the Chesapeake bay and Elizabeth river. The best part of it all was seeing the US
Merchant fleet at its finest with the bustling ports of the tidewater... Show more content on

In particular, I was able to put in to practice knowledge I learned about overhauling pumps and
working against a clock while trying to get the stern thruster in a capacity where it could be used
for DP operations. The maintenance task became more challenging when things didn t go as
planned, but as an engine department we adapted to the situation and came up with a solution that
was ultimately better than the initial plan. The US Merchant Marine Academy is defiantly a unique
experience and it is not just for anyone. Trips like the ones that take place on the T/V Kings Pointer
require midshipman that are diligent, committed, and personable in a close quarters environment
but at the same time our ability to stay composed under pressure and perform exceptionally well is
what sets a true Kings Pointer

Thomas Clement Douglas s The Greatest Canadian
Thomas Clement Douglas, or Tommy Douglas was a prominent Canadian politician during the
1900s, as both a premier and a minister of health in the House of Commons. Though he was
born in Scotland, his family moved to Canada at a very early age. Tommy Douglas spent most of
his early life in Manitoba and most of his later life in Saskatchewan. Before he got into politics,
Douglas was a Baptist preacher. He accomplished lots in his time and was even voted as the
number one on the CBC television show the Greatest Canadian . Canadians remember him as a
man with moral integrity and intellectual honesty. In my eyes, he is a hero. He was the first leader
of any socialist government in Canada. He brought free healthcare to Canada, and he believed...

During his time at Brandon College, he met a woman named Irma Dempsey. Whom he married in
1930. Tommy and Irma had two daughters. Shirley who was born in 1934, and Joan, who was
adopted later on. An interesting fact, famous actor Kiefer Sutherland is the son of Shirley Douglas,
making him Tommy Douglas grandson. Tommy Douglas cared deeply for his family.
Tommy was born 1904 in Camelon, Scotland. When Tommy Douglas was 6 years old, his family
relocated to the city of Winnipeg in Canada. Unfortunately, before Tommy had left Scotland, he
had fallen and wounded his right knee which led to Osteomyelitis(an infection of the bone).
Many treatments in Scotland had to be done to help him recover, even though later in Winnipeg
the Osteomyelitis started up again. There was not much that could be done as medical care at
that time in Canada was very expensive. His family was not wealthy. The only option that
seemed present to them was to amputate his leg, until news came that a well known medical
surgeon had wanted to operate on Tommy as long as his parents agreed to allow his medical
students to observe. This event had never left Tommy s memory. In 1918, at age 14, Tommy
Douglas had dropped out of high school to pursue a job that could earn his family more money.
1919, was the year of the Winnipeg Strike. Tommy had witnessed the horror of the strike firsthand.
He saw policemen beating strikers with clubs, he saw law enforcement shoot workers with guns,
he saw cars set on fire.

Similarities Between Kantian Ethics And Utilitarianism
As the world witnessed the horrors of 9/11 and the ensuing Global War on Terror committed by
different belligerents, it found itself in an ethical debate as how it was to respond to this reality.
The Church found itself in a particularly peculiar situation as it is widely regarded as a moral
compass a majority of all people of earth.
In an attempt to tackle the ethical and moral issues with the question of whether or not to sanction
an armed effort to defend against terrorism, the Church very often referred back to its received
normative ethical framework for the justification of war, namely the Just War theory. The pope
used Just War Theory as an argument against the American led invasion of Iraq in 2003. At the
same time, five leading evangelical Christian leaders outlined their support for the invasion in what
is know as the Land ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before Kant, the philosophical thinkers of the day had slowly been shifting from Platonic and
Aristotelian virtue ethics towards a consequentialist view in which people were seen as means
towards an arbitrary end. This rejection of utilitarian and consequentialist systems holds a strong
appeal to the Christian for many reasons, and numerous similarities between Kantian philosophy
and ideas of many Christians can be noticed in several areas. One example of this is Kant s idea
of good will which resonates closely with Christian virtue ethics. Another Kantian idea is that moral
truth can be determined by man, a concept which is reminiscent of Aquinas practice of regarding
reason as a mean to arrive at the natural law. For example, Kant s idea of good will approximates
the virtue ethics held by many Christians, and his belief that moral truths can be determined by man
echoes Aquinas commitment to using reason to arrive at the natural law.(repetetive last

According to By Rainie and Hitlin (2005), there is agreement among teens and their parents about
the role that the internet plays in teens education. Eighty six percent of teens, and 88% of online
teens, believe that the internet helps teenagers to do better in school. Eighty percent of parents and
83% of parents of online teens agreed with that proposition . Wright (n.d) shares that the Internet
contains a wealth of knowledge that is available instantly upon any search. Because of this, the
Internet has superseded libraries as a source for information gathering and research. Many teachers
will now ask students to visit specific websites to study from home, and online encyclopedias
provide masses of knowledge on almost every topic imaginable. The variety of sources allows
students to pursue subjects in much greater detail rather than being limited to whatever the teacher
sends home .
It has been discovered through research that 71.7% of the students have access outside of Richter

computer technology outside of Richter Park High School as compared to 86.7% access for the
students who do not qualify, and 51.7% of ELL students have access to computer technology

Character Analysis Of Andrew In Fly Away Home By Eve Bunting
Hopefull. That describes Andrew in Fly Away Home by Eve Bunting. Andrew lives in a airport.
He want the live a normal life but he can t because he s stuck in an airport without a home.
Though in a tough situation he still manages to keep a positive attitude, and he also is helpful. He
is so young yet he is still hopeful.
How would you react living in an airport since you were young, well Andrew manages to keep a
positive attitude. In the story Andrew said My dad and I live in the airport, that s because we don t
have a home and the airport is better than the streets. This shows his attitude while living in the
airport it s tough but he does not want to show his dad that he truly wants to live in a house.
Andrew tries to stay positive through the situation he s going through. But he is a lot more
positive than most people would be in his predicament. Another example on how Andrew is
positive is when he saw the bird get stuck in the airport, Don t stop trying! he told it silently. Don
t! You can get out. This part is significant to the story by showing how he is encouraging the bird
to continue trying, that the bird can get out. But this makes me wonder if maybe he was just
talking to himself because he has no one to help him stay positive. His dad surely does not
encourage him his dad likes it at the airport his dad does not understand what Andrew really
wants, yet Andrew still fights and he still has hope. The last example on how Andrew is positive
is when he said Then I remember the bird, It took awhile but a door opened and when the bird
left, when it flew free, I knew it was singing. It is important to notice that before he said this he
almost lost hope, he got mad at the people around him because they had more than him. But he then
tried to focus on something positive this shows that he truly wants to have hope and be positive.
Many people face challenges all the time. But the character Andrew in fly away home lives in an
airport and helps his dad to get out. One example is he can t get noticed by other people, they stay
among the crowds change airlines and sleep sitting up. Even though Andrew is just a kid he doesn t
complain about all the walking and trying not to get noticed. This is helpful

How Does Polypeptide Occur In Protein Synthesis
Our genetic material is DNA. A polypeptide is a chain of amino acids otherwise known as a
protein. DNA is used to make polypeptides in a process called protein synthesis. THe assemblance
of polypeptides occurs in protein synthesis. Protein synthesis is the process where genetic info is
taken from the nucleus and into the ribosome. Proteinsynthesis uses two RNAmolecules and two
types of processes called transcription and translation. The two RNA molecules are messenger
RNA (mRNA) and transfer RNA (tRNA). mRNA contains genetic info that travels from the DNAto
the ribosome. It uses an amino acid chain sequence of proteins. tRNA (transfer RNA) uses its
specific amino acid, takes it, and matches it with its predestined codon. The process

Employees encountering the biggest number of vicious attacks are those in medicinal services

This is violence committed by an aggressor who either gets administrations from or is under the

Case Study on the Computer Hack at Stellar University
My report will be discussing and analyzing the computer attack that happened at Stellar University
(SU). In the first part, I will give a brief about that school and outline its servers. In the second part,
I will discuss and analyze the issues that happened in IT department and finally I will add solutions,
recommendation and end my report with conclusion and references.
Stellar University (SU) is an urban university that offers amazing majors such as engineering,
business, hypnotherapy and health. SU uses many tools such as Mainframe AS 400, Unix, and
Linux etc. Also, it has networking infrastructure such as wireless and VPN (Virtual Private
Network).
The issue is that SU did not have a qualified staff in IT who could operate and run the system
clearly. Moreover, they have low skills in training and low experience that prevented them of being
IT professionals which made them walking with no direction. On the other hand, criterions of IT
system were not clear due to the tight restriction and updating password policy. These reasons
created a shortage in protecting IT system.
The server was an IBM and the upgrade were made to that server in order to maximize space and
memory. Additionally, the IBM server warranty has been expired and it did not get renewed. The
school management at SU decided to relocate all servers to be at the computer center. The SU was
on a budget which made SU laying off some staff and reducing preventive maintenance.

The Process of Photosynthesis and Practicals
Introduction One of the most important bological processes on earth is photosynthesis. Plants that
comprise the majority of the food we consume need photosynthesis in order to produce life
sustaining energy. This energy is harnessed by the sun. If it were not for photosynthesis to capture
and use this vital energy, life itself would be minimal or almost non existent. Photosynthesis
entails a process that involves complex and fundamental actions that occur in plants, algae as well
as some bacteria. They use sunlight to produce carbohydrates. Oxygen is then created from carbon
dioxide (CO2) and water (Jackson, 2008). The carbohydrates created through photosynthesis
enables growth and normal functioning for the plant to sustain life. Here is an example of a
formulation of photosynthesis by Campbell et al. Light 6CO2 + 6H20 6 (CH2O) + 6O2
Chlorophyll (Campbell et al. 2009) Chloroplasts are the main place for photosynthesis to occur in
plants occurs. Chloroplasts are important organelles, and can be found within plant cells. The
structure of chloroplasts are complex networks of sacs. These are called thylakoids. Chlorophyll.
located within the membranes of thylakoids, give color to plants (Campbell et al. 2009).
Cholrophyll is a key component in allowing most photosynthesis. Chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b

Christians live their life by the word of God. They take the Bible and the contents within and hold

Meditation Argumentative Essay
The many improvements in a person s life that can be experienced through meditation are
wonderful. The world can seem so fast paced and hectic that even a few minutes a few times a
day can make a big difference. The calming and soothing relaxation of a guided meditation can
help people survive beyond the harder times life often has to offer. A good meditationguide is where
a beginner should start when entering into meditation.
Meditation has often been linked with spirituality and religion. Used by yoga practitioners as well
as Buddhists, it is also found in Christianity and Catholicism in the form of quiet prayer and inner
contemplation. However, meditation can also work in other fields, such as health care and

Even if only taken a few minutes at a time, and only once or twice a day, a person will open
themselves up to living without stress and turmoil. It has been said that the blood chemistry of a
person undergoing guide meditation is different than that of someone experiencing stress.
Meditation allows this calming change to eventually affect other parts of daily life without having
to meditate, so long as meditation itself is practiced on a regular basis.
To begin properly using meditation in one s life, start by creating a list of goals. These should be
things one is willing to accomplish and interested in achieving. Meditation has been able to help
people recover from addictions, deal with chronic pain and long term diseases, and experience
serenity. Whether one is seeking peace or to achieve something, have the list of goals clear in your
mind.
Once a set list of goals is in place, find a good spot within the home to meditate. It s important
that this place be comfortable to sit in and spend time in, a welcoming place. It s also important
that this meditative space be free from regular interruptions. Consider a spot away from the front
door and telephone, the bathroom and kitchen. Make sure it s a place you ll want to come to a few

your body experiences a biotin deficiency, you are likely to endures periods of hair loss as a result
of not receiving sufficient amounts of this vitamin. The easiest way to maintain sufficient levels of
biotin in your system is having a daily diet that includes food items such as egg yolks, whole wheat

Blog #2 Uncover the Essential Vitamins That Serve as Hair Growth Supplements
Growing your hair to an acceptable length is a struggle. You ve given just about every hair care
growth product on the market a try, only to receive lackluster results in the end. Before you give
up the dream of having a full head of long hair that gently cascades down your shoulders, consider
adding an assortment of vitamins to your daily diet. These hair growth supplements are a natural
way to reach your goal.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C produces collagen, a protein that is vital to the development of healthy hair, nails and
skin. It also works as an antioxidant by repairing damage done by free radical chemicals inside
your body. These chemicals prevents hair strands from becoming strong enough to grow properly.
You may want to consider adding vitamin C rich foods to your daily diet to help promote your
body s growth of healthy hair. Foods containing vitamin C include the following items.
Oranges
Kale
Strawberries
Red Bell Peppers
You can combine these foods with hair care products that also contain Vitamin C to strengthen your
hair and repair any current damage that may be preventing healthy hair growth.

paves the way for healthy, strong strands of hair to develop. When you have a niacin

Archetypal Characters In Hamlet
Through Hamlet, William Shakespeare reveals that madness is driven by different factors, and
whether someone is truly mad depends on their inner self and life struggles. In the play the
characters of Hamlet and Ophelia are both mad. Shakespeare uses archetypal characters to compare
one who is driven to madness and one who is only pretending.
Ophelia is the good girl who has gone mad . Ophelia s archetypal innocence decieved herself and
led her down a dark path. Ophelia fears doing things wrong so her strategy is to things right, with
that being said she has become a pon in everyone s game. In the games of her father she is nothing
but obedient, I shall obey my Lord. (I.iii. Line 145). Essentially when obeying her father, Ophelia
has no control over her body, her relationships, or her choices. Though in the beginning Hamlet
seemed to be a romantic he later became abusive which was apart of his mousetrap , but Ophelia
became blind because of how naive she was. The problem is that her inner self was so obedient
that she could never fight back when she needed to. In act 3 Hamlet seems to know that Ophelia
is spying on him for her father and accuses her of being a breeder of sinners , in modern day he is

St. Manuel Bueno
Miguel de Unamuno s novel Saint Manuel Bueno, Martyr, arguably considered the masterpiece of
his literary career, challenges the reader to consider questions of immortality and truth. To answer
who should have access to the truth of life after death, Unamuno presents an intriguing relationship
between authority and freedom. I argue that the role of authority and authority figures involves
possessing truth, and deceiving the masses from this truth by providing false consolation and
denying the immortality of the soul. In contrast, freedom is limited to this earthly life, where people
cannot rebel against authority or have a concept of faith, and are convinced by the church
authorities actions.
The Church authorities in Saint Manuel are miserable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of leading people to likewise question the immortality of life, he instead uses his authority
so that the townspeople of Valverde de Lucerna never question life after death. While this
consoles both Don Manuel and the townspeople, it is ultimately a false freedom. The people are
trapped within the freedom of an earthly life, cannot rebel against the Church authority, and have a
concept of faith that rests on outward appearances and comfort rather than truth. However, this is
in direct contrast with how Unamuno himself lived his life. Unamuno often used socialist tactics
to bring the people in his town of Salamanca to consider life after death (Nozick 25). The freedom
Don Manuel constructs also contrasts with Unamuno s own ideal about freedom. Unamuno
advocated a religious individualism that seeks eternal life, while Don Manuel represents a worldly
freedom that lives for comfort. In conclusion, Unamuno in Saint Manuel uses Don Manuel as a
contrasting figure to his own ideals, in order to show the reader the reality of a life that does not

Gdp And Total Expenditure On Purchasing A New Houses Essay
1. GDP is the monetary value allocated to all goods and services produced within a given
country. This excludes the net income accruing from abroad. GDP can be measured using the
total expenditure approach for calculating National Income as a summation of total expenditure
on commodities produced in a given economy. Any expenditure on purchasing a new houses is
excluded. The final consumption of the government is also included together with all current
expenditure. Their expenditure on fixed assets is also included. The value of the physical
increase in inventories during the course if the year is also included. The summation of all these
components is the Total Domestic Expenditure, TDE. Adding up expenditure on export to the
TDE determines the Total Final Expenditure. Subtracting all expenditure on imports from this
total results to a measure known as the GDP at market rate. Subtracting taxes on expenditure
levied by the government and adding back the total amount of subsidy leads to the arrival at a
figure known as GDP at factor cost. National income is however affected by interest, rent and
profit accruing from abroad and the net of the property income from abroad ought to be added to
the GDP. This leads to the arrival at the GDP at factor cost. GDP can also be arrived at by using
factor incomes in the computation of National Income. Under this approach, the summation of
individual incomes arrives at the domestic income, as each time something is produced and sold,

How Does Aphra Behn Show Loyalty In Oroonoko
One of the key themes present throughout Aphra Behn s Oroonoko is betrayal based solely on
the concept of trust. Throughout history, fine literature has provided us with novels that reveal
betrayal as the base and themes of the story. For example, Oroonoko s deepest values of trust and
loyalty are turned against him. His trust in friendship and honorable truth to his word, expose him
to the treachery of Europeans/Africans who calculate human worth on a measure of profit and
fear. A man without his word is nothing. Trust is the basis of all human collaboration: without it,
our world wouldn t exist, as we know it. A hero cannot survive in such a world, a tangle of
assurance and betrayals. Behn uses betrayal in Oroonokoto represent the contrast... Show more

what you know of her films, in what ways could Mehta be seen as guilty of representing only a

Deepa Mehta s films show India the way she believes depicts the true India, and not the India that
westerners believe is a begging bowl or a spiritual wonderland. Although she attempts to create
films that do not show India for those two conceptions, in her films it is clear that these
conceptions are somewhat relevant in India. Although her films show these aspects, she does not

he is naturally good, then in the proper environment, his emotions can be trusted. This gives
credibility to the idea of individualism and the flourishing of human emotions and needs. They

Dbq Essay On Imperialism
The standard way of thinking about the topic of imperialism is that the British seized other peoples
lands without considering how the people felt, but many other countries followed in the footsteps
of the British. Other countries saw that they had expanded and were gaining territory, and wanted

the main people affected were the British, the Germans, and the people living in imperialized

Of the people who were impacted by imperialism, the group that was influenced the most were the

Reducing Sunlight With The Installation Of A Network Of...
The proposals of reducing sunlight with the installation of a network of giant solar reflectors in
space, and the artificial generation of sulfate aerosols in the stratosphere are ideas that we may
have to consider in a nearer future than some may think. The latter approach, which could be
achieved by burning sulfur or hydrogen sulfide in the stratosphere, would be a lot like a volcanic
eruption such as that of Pinatubo in 1991, the difference being that the geoengineeringaim would
require the equivalent of a Pinatubo every four years or so (Oppenheimer 2011). Although it
does not help as far as CO2 is concerned, but it can alleviate the problem while the long term CO2
removal plans are being employed. There was a project called SPICE (Stratospheric Particle

The project focused on three steps; 1) evaluating candidate particles, which aims to understand the

energy will someday run out and since some environmental problems caused by petroleum use
are getting worse. As alternatives to today s main energy source, oil, some others have been
proposed already, such as solar, water, biomass, and nuclear. Wind Power is the one of the ways
that has the biggest potential and is the most practical. And it is predicted to play an important role
in electrical generation for the new era. But to think wind power will be the dominant energy source
can be too optimistic. How will wind power be used? To what extent will wind power take the
place of petroleum? We can find the answers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Decentralized power production can bring immunity to largescale electrical grid failures. As wind
turbines can be adapted to this use, increasing amounts of wind power will be utilized as a means
to micropower generation.
These examples suggest that wind power will be used in ways that correspond to each needed
capacity and purpose. In the article Wind Energy: An Untapped Resource, the Wind Energy
Association estimates the potential amount of wind power generation capacity in the U.S.A. at
10,777 billion kW/h, which is three times the electricity generated in the U.S.A. today. However,
it also predicts that we are unlikely ever to use even half of that potential. In fact, in 2000, the
U.S.A. was using less than 1% of that potential! This is because wind power is not always the
superior method, and there are some problems still to be solved.
In the article Nuclear Now, Schwarts and Keiss point out some problems with wind power
generation. First the Whish, Whish sound of the turning fan might bother the people living
nearby. A relatively large area of land is needed for huge wind turbines. Also birds can be killed
by the turbines. And, of course, there is the question of the cost. In Wind Turbines Taking Toll on
Birds of Prey, for example USA Today reports that the number of birds killed by the

Title: Separating Mixtures INTRODUCTION: Paragraph 1 The aim of the investigation is to be
able to separate the mixture and get the amount of salt that was put in back out. In this
investigation many different separation techniques must be used to get the salt back out of the
mixture. Paragraph 2 The separation techniques used in this experiment include adsorption,
sieving, decanting, filtering and crystallization. These methods have been used as their quick,
easy and effective the adsorption will be used to attract the iron filings, the sieving will be used to
sieve out the rocks. The decanting will be used to separate the salty water, Styrofoam and sand.

Overpopulation In The United States
The United States population is growing at an alarming rate. Overpopulation is the condition
where the population is rising rapidly and the resources cannot support it. The growth rate in the
United States is approximately 2.2%. This means by 2050 the population could reach 438 million
people ( World Bank Group ) Many citizens do not see any danger of the population rise in the
United States. Unawareness might be the biggest factor in why they believe this; however,
overpopulationcan destroy the environment, including food and water sources, while also raising
unemployment rates and the risk of disease.
Overpopulation can damage or even destroy the environment. The need for resources will grow
with the population, but natural resources will not be produced at a fast enough pace. Man may
try to produce the resources they need themselves but will there be enough space? According to
Young the average person needs a minimum of 100 square feet to feel comfortable in a living
space ( How Much Space Do You Really Need? ). Using the estimated population size of 2050,
human living space will take up 43.8 billion square feet. Assuming most of these people live in

City of Thieves by David Bienoff
City of Thieves starts off with Lev Beniov sitting atop his roof, on a firefighting detail, under the
German siege of Leningrad in Kirov, Russia. As he sits on top of his building s roof with his
friends Vera Osiponva, and the Antokolsky twins they listen to anti aircraft fire, and they see a
paratrooper falling to the ground. The group hops the Kirov gate, and runs towards the
paratrooper s landing sight, realizing he is drifting to the ground dead. They began looting his
body, and as Lev got a German knife from the man, the GAZ turned on Voinova Street, and they
had to run. While running back to Kirov, Vera slipped, and Lev had to go and get her. As he
helped her over the fence, the GAZ grabbed him. Since it was after curfew, he believed execution
was inevitable. He was taken to Piter s prison called the Crosses with no light or sound. Soon, a
Russian officer named Kolya was thrown in the cell with him. In the morning, the two prisoners
were taken to a mansion with NKVD officers in it. The Colonel had a mission for the prisoners.
He took their ration cards, and told Kolya and Lev they had until Thursday to get one dozen
eggs. On that Saturday morning, Kolya and Lev had left their lives on the line for a dozen eggs.
The middle of this novel begins when Kolya tells Lev that they should try looking in the
Haymarket for any eggs. They searched through the Haymarket, and they find nothing. As they
reach the end of their search, a boy tells them of a man who keeps a coop of

Henrik Ibsen s A Dollhouse
Henrik Ibsen s A Dollhouse
A Dollhouse is Henrik Ibsen s best known realistic problem play. It is about the debt a wife hides
from her husband, and the escalation of problems surrounding it occurring around Christmas. The
play shocked many viewers because it broke many cultural stigmas at the time. The names,
symbols, and dialogue all contribute to the overall impact of the play.
According to the article, Henrik Ibsen Biography, Ibsen was a playwright born in Skien, Norway
as the oldest of five siblings to Knud and Marichen Ibsen. At the age of 8, Ibsen s parents went
bankrupt, and moved the family ... to a rundown farm near town. At 15, Ibsen worked as an
apprentice to a pharmacist at an apothecary, and used his free time to write poetry and paint.
Ibsen moved to Christiania (later called Oslo), in 1850 where he was offered the job of writer and
manager of the Norwegian Theatre in Bergen. In 1862, Ibsen left Norway, and moved to Italy,
and later Germany in 1868, where he wrote many realistic plays such as Peer Gynt and The Pillars
of Society. He wrote his most famous play, A Dollhouse, in Germany in 1879. After moving back
to Norway in 1891, Ibsen wrote more self reflective plays such as The Master Builder and When
We Dead Awaken. After having a series of strokes in 1900, Ibsen died May 23, 1906 ( Henrik Ibsen
Biography ).

the play. According to anthology editors, Edgar V.

Essay on Paul Robeson
Paul Robeson was a famous African American athlete, singer, actor and advocate for the civil
rights of people around the world. He rose to prominence in a time when segregation was legal in
America and black people were being lynched by white mobs, especially in the South.
Born on April 9, 1898 in Princeton, New Jersey, Paul Robeson was the youngest of five children.
His father was a runaway slave who went on to graduate from Lincoln University, and his mother
came from a family of Quakers who worked for the abolition of slavery. His family was familiar
with hardship and the determination to rise above it. His own life was no less challenging.
In 1915, Paul won a four year academic scholarship to Rutgers University. In spite of ... Show more

He is known for changing the Show Boat song Old Man River from the lamentable lyrics I m tired
of livin and feared of dyin , to a stronger and more political, I must keep fightin until I m dyin . His
eleven films include Body and Soul (1924), Jericho (1937) and Proud Valley (1939).
Paul noted that his travels had taught him that racism was not as virulent in Europe as it was in the
United States. At home, it was difficult to find restaurants that would serve him; theaters in New
York would only seat blacks in the upper balconies and his performances were often surrounded
with threats or outright harassment. In London, on the other hand, Robeson s opening night
performance of Emperor Jones brought the audience to its feet with cheers for twelve encores.
Paul Robeson used his deep baritone voice to promote black spirituals, to share the cultures of
other countries and to benefit the social movements of his time. He sang for peace and justice in
25 languages throughout the United States, Europe, the Soviet Union and the Third World.
Robeson became known as a citizen of the world, as comfortable with the people of Moscow and
Nairobi as with the people of Harlem. Among his friends he counted future African leader Jomo
Kenyatta, India s Nehru, historian W. E. B. DuBois, anarchist Emma Goldman and writers James
Joyce and Ernest Hemingway. In 1933, Robeson donated the proceeds of All God s Chillun

Women s Role Of Women In The Meiji Restoration
Women in the Meiji Restoration During the Meiji era and revolution, the presence of strong
leaders led to the continuous progression of policies on the equality between sexes. The leaders
urged the female gender to arise and advocate for their rights. Fukuzawa Yukichi was the first
scholar to speak out on the rights of women inclusive of their positions and roles in the society. He
made emphasis in the creation of education policies for the women and their improvement within
the society. The American missionaries on their arrival to Japan advocated towards the abolishment
of the mistress customs and law. Also, patriarchy was inclusive of the policies they wanted to be
abolished. Women roles in the home were mainly characterized by them being good wives. They
were required to obey their husbands and raise intelligent children. The requirement was that they
be obedient to the man of the house that was their father, husband, and son when their husbands
were deceased. The women were responsible for cooking, taking care of both young and elderly,
and fed the family members. The Meiji government started the school policy with the advancement
on the principle of gender equality. The leaders and authority established it was essential to educate
citizens to ensure the modernization of Japan. An education code was created in 1872 with the
establishment of approximately 20, 000 schools through the country. However, there were more

Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film A significant challenge for architects today is creating a
balance between preserving original, historic buildings, and creating functional additions for them.
Additions play a very important role in structures today; serving to work with what already exists
while accommodating changing functional requirements and aesthetic tastes. They seek to
maintain the original building s character, while becoming compatible with new design. The
Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film at Vassar College, an addition to the façade of Avery
Hall, designed by Cesar Pelli in 2003, exemplifies multiple characteristics of a good addition. The
addition is in dramatic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prior to the addition, Ferry House challenged Vassar s preexisting architectural notions, being the
first modern building of its kind. In relation to surrounding buildings, Sanders Physics and Main
Building, Ferry is a misfit. However, upon completion of the Vogelstein addition, this section of
campus was transformed. The dark and light gray striped pattern addition fares well with the white
painted brick of Ferry House. The varying width of these stripes is representative of the
contemporary nature the architect was trying to further, similar to the rectangular shapes present on
Ferry. Vogelstein s stark burnt orange overhang again mirrors the style of Ferry building. The
concrete masonry stands out not only against the façade, but also against Vassar s many other
brick buildings. These two adjacent buildings share a common courtyard, known as the Frances
Daly Fergusson Quadrangle, a venue for outdoor theatrics. This minimalist courtyard serves to
create a flow between the two buildings. This addition meets demands for modernization, relatable
to the Loeb Art Center and the upcoming science facility on the opposite side of campus. These
buildings work together to bring a contemporary mix to an otherwise historically significant and
beautiful, yet dated style of brick

Dehydration
Water makes up more than half of the human body and is required for our cell systems to
properly perform their necessary functions. Dehydration occurs when more water is lost than
what is being taken in. Making sure we have the proper amount of fluids in our cells is vital to
ensuring our bodies are able to properly perform their essentially necessary functions. Water acts
like a cleanser, helping with the removal of harmful waste and possible deadly toxins. Our blood,
which is made primarily of water, is responsible for carrying many nutrients to nearby waiting
cells. Our immune system, which contains a fluid called lymph, is also made of water. If our
immune system is affected by dehydration, it stops working properly and our body... Show more

Our bodies can obtain water from most foods or liquids we consume, but pure water is best.
Alcohol is known to affect the levels of hydration within human cells through its diuretic effects.
The more alcohol an individual consumes, the more water is removed from the body through the
individuals frequent need to urinate. Caffeine is also a known diuretic, but its effects on hydration
levels are believed to be minimal.
The symptoms of dehydration vary from person to person, with factors such as age and weight
playing a role in how a person responds to the effects dehydration on their individual body. Adults
will respond differently to the symptoms of dehydration than children will. When children and
infants become sick they may suffer from vomiting, diarrhea, or increased urination, therefore their
bodies require their electrolyte levels be restored in an attempt to prevent the effects of dehydration.
Drinks such as Pedialyte are infused with sodium and potassium, much like many sports drinks are
higher in electrolytes than pure water. The major difference between electrolyte juices such as
Pedialyte and sports drinks are pediatric juices are generally not loaded with additional sugars.
Preventing the effects of dehydration during hot weather requires an individual to increase their
intake of fluids. Moderate to heavy exercise can

Winning And Loosing By Paul Galdone
Winning and Loosing
Just like any other character developed by a child, nature and nurture are significant factors in
reading and writing habits.Research shows that attitude towards reading and writing cultivated
early can largely affect the ability of children to express themselves through writing. In most cases,
children sfirst encounter with books is bedtime stories from their parents. My journey of reading
and writing was a rollercoaster. A story of battles, some won others lost.
The best memory I have of a book is reading andcomprehending the tale of The Three Little Pigs by
Paul Galdone. I gained insight about wisdom from the choices made by the three pigs. It was
among the first books I borrowed from our local library. For me, reading this book was similar to a
hard earned dollar. The significance of this novel was freedom. Moreover, it was the first book the
librarian let me pick out for myself. The story was fascinating that I found myself acting it out
alone. Reading and writing was never easy for me. The fear of coming across a new word
traumatized me.
My major worry was the inability to pronounce a new word especially in front of an audience.
Writing was not easy either and even the competition for reading and writing in my class was
high. The first time I was able to spell my name was the significant writing accomplishment mainly
because I had to write it thrice before I got it right.
My inspiration for reading and writing is my mother. She is an avid

trees of the forest(mostly old huge oak trees)were standing tall and strong.
On a hilltop stood a deer. He was so proud of himself stating that he was the sole king of the
forest. I am the king of the forest. No one could ever challenge me. the deer said as the animals of

The reality that countries like North Korea, Iran, and Iraq are working on ballistic missiles. And
that terrorists who fly no national flag are trying to acquire chemical and biological weapons.
George J. Tenet, June 14, 2001
I. Introduction Terrorism is far from new to nations around the world. Attacks that make the
headlines in international news occur almost daily. However, each act of terrorism provides its
own goal or objective, which may or may not have a different aim than a previous attack, which
makes the threat even more difficult to prevent. Terrorism is a concept that is hard to define, but
many government organizations and authors around the world have defined or attempted to
provide a definition of terrorism. In spite of the lack of a single definition, terrorism is commonly
referred to as a phenomenon because it is constantly evolving. This, in turn, makes terrorism even
more difficult to predict and forecast.
Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) have been a significant fear since the attacks of 9/11. Al
Qaeda s use of airplanes as a weapon became the cause of mass terror and destruction to the
American people as well as the world. The threat of Chemical, Biological,

Exploring Inferential Statistics and Their Discontents
What are degrees of freedom? The degrees of freedom (df) of an estimate is the number or
function of sample size of information on which the estimate is based and are free to vary relating
to the sample size (Jackson, 2012; Trochim Donnelly, 2008).
How are the calculated? The degrees of freedom for an estimate equals the number of values
minus the number of factors expected en route to the approximation in question. Therefore, the
degrees of freedom of an estimate of variance is equal to N 1, where N is the number of
observations (Jackson, 2012). Given a single set of six numbers (N) the df = 6 1 = 5.
What do inferential statistics allow you to infer? Inferential statistics establish the methods for the

What are your options if your dependent variable scores are not normally distributed?
Transformation of data using a logarithm, square root, reciprocal, or some other function assists in
normalizing the data and correcting for heteroscedasiticy, nonlinearity, and outliers when one or
more variables are not normally distributed (Abrams, 1999; Bland Altman, 1996). The extent of the
deviations from normality determines the specific transformation used. A moderate difference in
normality uses a square root transformation, more substantially non normal uses a log
transformation, and severely non normal would use an inverse transformation (Abrams, 1999). The
aim of data transformation allows for changing the non normal distributed population data into
more useful variable and is not uncommon as the basic statistical summaries such as the sample
mean, variance, z scores, histograms, etc., are all transformed data and require the data follow a
particular distribution (Bland Altman, 1996; Trochim Donnelly, 2008).
Part II
What does p = .05 mean?
P = .05, or p value, is a probability measurement that the confidence of the research questions or
null hypothesis is correct and has a less than 5 percent observed outcome on a normal distribution
curve thus having statistically significant. The p value is the prospect that null hypothesis is
actually correct; however, criticisms of various scholars believe in science that nearly everything is

Difference Between Drama And Drama
Theater and Drama
Drama means to act or to do from the Greek dran. It means action literally. It is a composition in
prose for enactment intended to portray life or character or to tell a story by action and dialogue.
It is a process geared to the participant and does not require a formal audience.
Theatre is a building specifically designed for the purpose of presenting dramatic performances
before an audience (Collier, 1995). It includes drama activities which may lead to formal
presentation of a scripted play involving acting, directing, designing, and other technical aspects.
The Basic Elements of Theatre (Terrin Adair Lynch)

It arouses pity and fear in the audience as it witnesses the action. In classical tragedy we find a
protagonist at the center of the drama that is a great person, usually of upper class birth. Tragedy
involves the audience in the action and creates tension and expectation.
Comedy
This genre should have the view of a comic spirit and is physical and energetic. It is tied up in
rebirth and renewal. This is the reason most comedy end in weddings, which suggest a union of a
couple and the expected birth of children. Comedy creates light feelings. The playwright uses comic
devices such as exaggeration, incongruity, surprise, repetition, wisecracks, and sarcasm.
Melodrama
Melodrama is drama of disaster and differs from tragedy significantly. The protagonist is usually
a victim of circumstance. He is acted upon by the antagonist or anti hero and suffers without
having to accept responsibility and inevitability of fate. Melodrama has a sense of strict moral
judgment. All issues presented in the plays are resolved in a well defined way. The good
characters are rewarded and the bad characters are punished in a means that fits the

  • 2. Essay on Abstinence-Only Sex Education does work. Abstinence only Sex Education does work. Teenage sexual activity has sparked an outcry within the nation. With such activity comes a high price. Studies have shown that there has been a significant rise in the number of children with sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), emotional and psychological problems, and out of wedlock childbearing. Sex has always been discussed publically by the media, television shows, music and occasionally by parents and teachers in educational context. Teens hear them, and as the saying goes, monkey see, monkey do , they are tempted to experiment with it. Therefore, it is important for every teenager to be aware of the outcome associated with premature sex. If students are educated about the impact of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Programs that encourage abstinence have become a vital part of school systems in the US. These programs are usually referred to as abstinence only or value based programs while other programs are called as safer sex, comprehensive, secular or abstinence plus programs which on the contrary promote the usage of effective contraception. Although abstinence only and safer sex programs disagree with one another, their core values and stand on the aims of sex education is to help teens develop problem solving skills and the skill of good decision making. They believe that adolescents will be better prepared to act responsibly in the heat of the moment (Silva). Most programs that have been currently implemented in the US have seen a delay in the initiation of sex among teens which proves to be a positive and desirable outcome (Silva). Statistics from recent studies suggest that only 13% of U.S. teens have ever had sex by the age of 15. But by the age of 19, seven in ten teens of both sexes have had sex. Between 1995 and 2006 2008, the percentage of teens aged 15 17 who had ever engaged in sexual intercourse declined from 38% to 28%. Among teens aged 18 19, it declined from 68% in 1995 to 60% in 2006 2008. The pregnancy rate among young women has declined steadily from 117 pregnancies per 1,000 women aged 15 19 in 1990 to 70 per 1,000 in 2005. However in 2006, the rate increased for the first time in more than a decade, rising to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Status And Social Status It is said that humans are social beings and we want to connect with other people, therefore it should come as no surprise that social interaction is an essential part of our everyday lives. Social interaction is a dynamic sequence of social actions between two or more individuals or groups and the foundation of social structures. Social structures are patterns that guide our behaviour in everyday life and there are two building blocks of social structure, status and role. A status is a culturally defined social position that is a part of our social identity that defines our relationship to others. Statuses can be ascribed, achieved or master. An ascribed status is fixed and involuntary, it is a status we are often born into such as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If we choose to become a parents, husband and wife also become father and mother and the boy or girl born is given the status of baby. As a mother and father, each has a responsibility to love, protect and teach their baby about right and wrong, how to speak and use language, both verbal and non verbal to communicate. Parents have an important role as a baby s first teacher, the foundation socialization. In Belize, as a multi cultural nation, babies may be taught by parents to speak the language of their culture for example Mennonites may speak German or Spanish, the Garinagu speak Garifuna and the Hispanics speak Spanish. However, as an English speaking nation, mothers and fathers also teach their baby to speak English so that they can interact with other people in society. Eventually as a baby grows into a toddler, an understanding develops about the role of a mother and father and the toddler learns that parents should be given respect which influences the interaction between parents and children throughout their lifetime. In our society and societies around the world, children are taught from an early age to not only to show respect for parents but to show respect for elders as well. If we were to think back to our childhood, we would remember being afraid to answer our parent questions or commands in an ill or threatening manner. A sure that we bid them time of day to our elders and said please and thank you. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Feminist Perspective of John Steinbeck’s The... A Feminist Perspective of John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums John Steinbeck, in his short story The Chrysanthemums depicts the trials of a woman attempting to gain power in a man s world. Elisa Allen tries to define the boundaries of her role as a woman in such a closed society. While her environment is portrayed as a tool for social repression, it is through nature in her garden where Elisa gains and shows off her power. As the story progresses, Elisa has trouble extending this power outside of the fence that surrounds her garden. In the end, Elisa learns but does not readily accept, that she possesses a feminine power weak for the time, not the masculine one she had tried so hard to achieve through its imitation. The work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They look at a tractor and smoke, manly things, as they conclude their man s work. Just as their environment surrounds all persons, fences surround animals and men surround women. As she looks out to these men, we look at Elisa. Although she is doing the feminine work of gardening, she is dressed like a man. She wore a black hat low on her forehead to cover her hair, thick leather gloves covered her hands, and clodhopper shoes covering her small woman s feet. A big corduroy apron covered the dress making her figure look blocked and heavy (396). Unconsciously, as she looks through her fence at the men talking business, she is trying to cover up her feminine qualities. She longs to be in their position and possess their characteristics. As she does her gardening, something she enjoys and excels in, Her face was lean and strong... eager and mature and handsome (396). Her use of the scissors is described as over eager and over powerful (397). All of these characteristics are usually masculine adjectives. But in this case they describe a woman attempting or at least imagining living as a part of such a man s world. Yet Elisa s power is not used for masculine activities; in fact, her power is derived from a feminine source, nature. Mother Nature, a female, controls the environment. This female power is part of matriarchal lineage since Elisa a mother also could stick anything in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. T-V-Pointer Experience Firstly I would like to start off by mentioning I am an Engineer so my week was different than the rest of my shipmates however, I think the trip was an invaluable resource, especially as a senior, keeping my skills sharp for the merchant fleet I will soon be joining. Every time I take a trip on the T/V Kings Pointer I am impressed at how my shipmates and I are able to safely navigate and operate a vessel. This is a true testament to the education we receive at the Academy and during our time at Sea. With great weather, our time in Virginia was just as impressive when pulling into Norfolk harbor. Seeing the stern of the USS Wisconsin, as a relic of one of the greatest vessels our American Shipyards have produced, was just icing on the cake compared to the Countless US Naval destroyers and cruisers and aircraft carriers we passed while transiting the Chesapeake bay and Elizabeth river. The best part of it all was seeing the US Merchant fleet at its finest with the bustling ports of the tidewater... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In particular, I was able to put in to practice knowledge I learned about overhauling pumps and working against a clock while trying to get the stern thruster in a capacity where it could be used for DP operations. The maintenance task became more challenging when things didn t go as planned, but as an engine department we adapted to the situation and came up with a solution that was ultimately better than the initial plan. The US Merchant Marine Academy is defiantly a unique experience and it is not just for anyone. Trips like the ones that take place on the T/V Kings Pointer require midshipman that are diligent, committed, and personable in a close quarters environment but at the same time our ability to stay composed under pressure and perform exceptionally well is what sets a true Kings Pointer ... Thomas Clement Douglas s The Greatest Canadian Thomas Clement Douglas, or Tommy Douglas was a prominent Canadian politician during the 1900s, as both a premier and a minister of health in the House of Commons. Though he was born in Scotland, his family moved to Canada at a very early age. Tommy Douglas spent most of his early life in Manitoba and most of his later life in Saskatchewan. Before he got into politics, Douglas was a Baptist preacher. He accomplished lots in his time and was even voted as the number one on the CBC television show the Greatest Canadian . Tommy and Irma had two daughters. Shirley who was born in 1934, and Joan, who was adopted later on. An interesting fact, famous actor Kiefer Sutherland is the son of Shirley Douglas, making him Tommy Douglas grandson. Tommy Douglas cared deeply for his family. Tommy was born 1904 in Camelon, Scotland. When Tommy Douglas was 6 years old, his family relocated to the city of Winnipeg in Canada. Unfortunately, before Tommy had left Scotland, he had fallen and wounded his right knee which led to Osteomyelitis(an infection of the bone). Many treatments in Scotland had to be done to help him recover, even though later in Winnipeg the Osteomyelitis started up again. There was not much that could be done as medical care at that time in Canada was very expensive. His family was not wealthy. The only option that seemed present to them was to amputate his leg, until news came that a well known medical surgeon had wanted to operate on Tommy as long as his parents agreed to allow his medical students to observe. This event had never left Tommy s memory. In 1918, at age 14, Tommy Douglas had dropped out of high school to pursue a job that could earn his family more money. 1919, was the year of the Winnipeg Strike. Tommy had witnessed the horror of the strike firsthand. He saw policemen beating strikers with clubs, he saw law enforcement shoot workers with guns, he saw cars set on fire. ... • 7. Similarities Between Kantian Ethics And Utilitarianism As the world witnessed the horrors of 9/11 and the ensuing Global War on Terror committed by different belligerents, it found itself in an ethical debate as how it was to respond to this reality. The Church found itself in a particularly peculiar situation as it is widely regarded as a moral compass a majority of all people of earth. In an attempt to tackle the ethical and moral issues with the question of whether or not to sanction an armed effort to defend against terrorism, the Church very often referred back to its received normative ethical framework for the justification of war, namely the Just War theory. The pope used Just War Theory as an argument against the American led invasion of Iraq in 2003. At the same time, five leading evangelical Christian leaders outlined their support for the invasion in what is know as the Land ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before Kant, the philosophical thinkers of the day had slowly been shifting from Platonic and Aristotelian virtue ethics towards a consequentialist view in which people were seen as means towards an arbitrary end. This rejection of utilitarian and consequentialist systems holds a strong appeal to the Christian for many reasons, and numerous similarities between Kantian philosophy and ideas of many Christians can be noticed in several areas. One example of this is Kant s idea of good will which resonates closely with Christian virtue ethics. Another Kantian idea is that moral truth can be determined by man, a concept which is reminiscent of Aquinas practice of regarding reason as a mean to arrive at the natural law. For example, Kant s idea of good will approximates the virtue ethics held by many Christians, and his belief that moral truths can be determined by man echoes Aquinas commitment to using reason to arrive at the natural law.(repetetive last ... Eighty six percent of teens, and 88% of online teens, believe that the internet helps teenagers to do better in school. Eighty percent of parents and 83% of parents of online teens agreed with that proposition . Wright (n.d) shares that the Internet contains a wealth of knowledge that is available instantly upon any search. Because of this, the Internet has superseded libraries as a source for information gathering and research. • 9. Character Analysis Of Andrew In Fly Away Home By Eve Bunting Hopefull. That describes Andrew in Fly Away Home by Eve Bunting. Andrew lives in a airport. He want the live a normal life but he can t because he s stuck in an airport without a home. Though in a tough situation he still manages to keep a positive attitude, and he also is helpful. He is so young yet he is still hopeful. How would you react living in an airport since you were young, well Andrew manages to keep a positive attitude. In the story Andrew said My dad and I live in the airport, that s because we don t have a home and the airport is better than the streets. This shows his attitude while living in the airport it s tough but he does not want to show his dad that he truly wants to live in a house. Andrew tries to stay positive through the situation he s going through. But he is a lot more positive than most people would be in his predicament. Another example on how Andrew is positive is when he saw the bird get stuck in the airport, Don t stop trying! he told it silently. Don t! You can get out. This part is significant to the story by showing how he is encouraging the bird to continue trying, that the bird can get out. But this makes me wonder if maybe he was just talking to himself because he has no one to help him stay positive. His dad surely does not encourage him his dad likes it at the airport his dad does not understand what Andrew really wants, yet Andrew still fights and he still has hope. The last example on how Andrew is positive is when he said Then I remember the bird, It took awhile but a door opened and when the bird left, when it flew free, I knew it was singing. It is important to notice that before he said this he almost lost hope, he got mad at the people around him because they had more than him. But he then tried to focus on something positive this shows that he truly wants to have hope and be positive. Many people face challenges all the time. But the character Andrew in fly away home lives in an airport and helps his dad to get out. One example is he can t get noticed by other people, they stay among the crowds change airlines and sleep sitting up. Even though Andrew is just a kid he doesn t complain about all the walking and trying not to get noticed. This is helpful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Process of Photosynthesis and Practicals Introduction One of the most important bological processes on earth is photosynthesis. Plants that comprise the majority of the food we consume need photosynthesis in order to produce life sustaining energy. This energy is harnessed by the sun. If it were not for photosynthesis to capture and use this vital energy, life itself would be minimal or almost non existent. Photosynthesis entails a process that involves complex and fundamental actions that occur in plants, algae as well as some bacteria. They use sunlight to produce carbohydrates. Oxygen is then created from carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (Jackson, 2008). The carbohydrates created through photosynthesis enables growth and normal functioning for the plant to sustain life. Here is an example of a formulation of photosynthesis by Campbell et al. Light 6CO2 + 6H20 6 (CH2O) + 6O2 Chlorophyll (Campbell et al. 2009) Chloroplasts are the main place for photosynthesis to occur in plants occurs. Chloroplasts are important organelles, and can be found within plant cells. The structure of chloroplasts are complex networks of sacs. These are called thylakoids. Chlorophyll. located within the membranes of thylakoids, give color to plants (Campbell et al. 2009). Cholrophyll is a key component in allowing most photosynthesis. I argue that the role of authority and authority figures involves possessing truth, and deceiving the masses from this truth by providing false consolation and denying the immortality of the soul. The latter approach, which could be achieved by burning sulfur or hydrogen sulfide in the stratosphere, would be a lot like a volcanic eruption such as that of Pinatubo in 1991, the difference being that the geoengineeringaim would require the equivalent of a Pinatubo every four years or so (Oppenheimer 2011). In the article Wind Energy: An Untapped Resource, the Wind Energy Association estimates the potential amount of wind power generation capacity in the U.S.A. at 10,777 billion kW/h, which is three times the electricity generated in the U.S.A. today. The more alcohol an individual consumes, the more water is removed from the body through the individuals frequent need to urinate. Caffeine is also a known diuretic, but its effects on hydration levels are believed to be minimal. The symptoms of dehydration vary from person to person, with factors such as age and weight playing a role in how a person responds to the effects dehydration on their individual body. Adults will respond differently to the symptoms of dehydration than children will. When children and infants become sick they may suffer from vomiting, diarrhea, or increased urination, therefore their bodies require their electrolyte levels be restored in an attempt to prevent the effects of dehydration. Drinks such as Pedialyte are infused with sodium and potassium, much like many sports drinks are higher in electrolytes than pure water. The major difference between electrolyte juices such as Pedialyte and sports drinks are pediatric juices are generally not loaded with additional sugars. Preventing the effects of dehydration during hot weather requires an individual to increase their intake of fluids. Moderate to heavy exercise can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Winning And Loosing By Paul Galdone Winning and Loosing Just like any other character developed by a child, nature and nurture are significant factors in reading and writing habits.Research shows that attitude towards reading and writing cultivated early can largely affect the ability of children to express themselves through writing. In most cases, children sfirst encounter with books is bedtime stories from their parents. My journey of reading and writing was a rollercoaster. A story of battles, some won others lost. The best memory I have of a book is reading andcomprehending the tale of The Three Little Pigs by Paul Galdone. I gained insight about wisdom from the choices made by the three pigs. It was among the first books I borrowed from our local library. For me, reading this book was similar to a hard earned dollar. The significance of this novel was freedom. Moreover, it was the first book the librarian let me pick out for myself. The story was fascinating that I found myself acting it out alone. Reading and writing was never easy for me. The fear of coming across a new word traumatized me. My major worry was the inability to pronounce a new word especially in front of an audience. Writing was not easy either and even the competition for reading and writing in my class was high. The first time I was able to spell my name was the significant writing accomplishment mainly because I had to write it thrice before I got it right. My inspiration for reading and writing is my mother. She is an avid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chemical, Biological, Radiological, And Nuclear Weapons CHEMICAL, BIOLOGICAL, RADIOLOGICAL, AND NUCLEAR WEAPONS: THE NEXT FACE OF TERRORSM A Master Thesis (Draft) Submitted to the Faculty of American Public University by Brock A. Lindsey Requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts July 2015 American Public University Charles Town, WV The reality that countries like North Korea, Iran, and Iraq are working on ballistic missiles. And that terrorists who fly no national flag are trying to acquire chemical and biological weapons. George J. Tenet, June 14, 2001 I. Introduction Terrorism is far from new to nations around the world. Attacks that make the headlines in international news occur almost daily. However, each act of terrorism provides its own goal or objective, which may or may not have a different aim than a previous attack, which makes the threat even more difficult to prevent. Terrorism is a concept that is hard to define, but many government organizations and authors around the world have defined or attempted to provide a definition of terrorism. In spite of the lack of a single definition, terrorism is commonly referred to as a phenomenon because it is constantly evolving. This, in turn, makes terrorism even more difficult to predict and forecast. Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) have been a significant fear since the attacks of 9/11. Al Qaeda s use of airplanes as a weapon became the cause of mass terror and destruction to the American people as well as the world. The threat of Chemical, Biological, ... • 53. Exploring Inferential Statistics and Their Discontents What are degrees of freedom? The degrees of freedom (df) of an estimate is the number or function of sample size of information on which the estimate is based and are free to vary relating to the sample size (Jackson, 2012; Trochim Donnelly, 2008). How are the calculated? The degrees of freedom for an estimate equals the number of values minus the number of factors expected en route to the approximation in question. Therefore, the degrees of freedom of an estimate of variance is equal to N 1, where N is the number of observations (Jackson, 2012). Given a single set of six numbers (N) the df = 6 1 = 5. What do inferential statistics allow you to infer? Inferential statistics establish the methods for the analyses used for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What are your options if your dependent variable scores are not normally distributed? Transformation of data using a logarithm, square root, reciprocal, or some other function assists in normalizing the data and correcting for heteroscedasiticy, nonlinearity, and outliers when one or more variables are not normally distributed (Abrams, 1999; Bland Altman, 1996). The extent of the deviations from normality determines the specific transformation used. A moderate difference in normality uses a square root transformation, more substantially non normal uses a log transformation, and severely non normal would use an inverse transformation (Abrams, 1999). The aim of data transformation allows for changing the non normal distributed population data into more useful variable and is not uncommon as the basic statistical summaries such as the sample mean, variance, z scores, histograms, etc., are all transformed data and require the data follow a particular distribution (Bland Altman, 1996; Trochim Donnelly, 2008). Part II What does p = .05 mean? P = .05, or p value, is a probability measurement that the confidence of the research questions or null hypothesis is correct and has a less than 5 percent observed outcome on a normal distribution curve thus having statistically significant. The p value is the prospect that null hypothesis is actually correct; however, criticisms of various scholars believe in science that nearly everything is impossible to ... • 54. Difference Between Drama And Drama Theater and Drama Drama means to act or to do from the Greek dran. It means action literally. It is a composition in prose for enactment intended to portray life or character or to tell a story by action and dialogue. It is a process geared to the participant and does not require a formal audience. It is tied up in rebirth and renewal. This is the reason most comedy end in weddings, which suggest a union of a couple and the expected birth of children. Comedy creates light feelings. The playwright uses comic devices such as exaggeration, incongruity, surprise, repetition, wisecracks, and sarcasm. Melodrama Melodrama is drama of disaster and differs from tragedy significantly. The protagonist is usually a victim of circumstance. He is acted upon by the antagonist or anti hero and suffers without having to accept responsibility and inevitability of fate. Melodrama has a sense of strict moral judgment. All issues presented in the plays are resolved in a well defined way.
