Osmosis Lab
Background Information:
All cells have membranes that are semi permeable, meaning that they allow certain
substances to enter while others are not allowed into the interior of the cell. This
process by which water crosses cell membranes from regions of low solute
concentration to regions of high solute concentration to attain equilibrium on either
side is called Osmosis. Cell membranes can only be completely understood by
studying living membranes to demonstrate its properties involving passive transport,
for example, osmosis (Chung et al.,2013). The primary factors which determine the
permeability of a living organism s membrane is the concentration gradient and the
size of the molecule compared to the size of the membrane s pores. The ... Show more

Liberalism Vs Conservatism
Liberalism and Conservatism The differences between Liberalism and Conservatism
are vast. These philosophies are in opposition to each other. Liberalism is based on
active government involvement in the lives of people to make sure that they are
taken care of financially, rights are not violated, and that their healthcare needs are
taken care of; mostly by the government. Liberalismbelieves that people cannot take
care of themselves without government involvement (Sidlow, 2017). On the other
hand, Conservatismplaces a high value on being free of government control or
regulation. They also hold tight to traditional American values and traditions (Sidlow,
2017). Some of these values are rooted in religious and Christian ideas. Conservatism

The war on terrorism is a divisive issue. Liberals believe that the US needs to stop
causing anger with foreign countries, and that the US has an arrogant foreign policy
that angers other countries as well (Primohistory.com, n.d.). Social security has also
been a hot button issue between the parties for a long time. Conservatives feel that
our social security system is in serious financial trouble, and changes are necessary
so that the US will be able to maintain the system for future generations. Liberals do
not feel that our current system is in financial trouble, and if we make changes to the
system, people may lose their benefits. However, liberals think that a cap on wealthy
people receiving benefits (Primohistory.com, n.d.). Liberals and conservatives also
see the government s role in religion, and the separation of church and state
differently. Liberals support the separation of church and state and feel that the
government should not dictate how, or if, people should have a religious belief, and
they feel the government should not have a say in religious proceedings. On the
contrary, conservatives feel that the government should still support and uphold the
beliefs of the founding fathers and the role that their Christian views played in setting
up our country. Conservatives feel that God should not be removed from government

City of Thieves by David Bienoff
City of Thieves starts off with Lev Beniov sitting atop his roof, on a firefighting
detail, under the German siege of Leningrad in Kirov, Russia. As he sits on top of
his building s roof with his friends Vera Osiponva, and the Antokolsky twins they
listen to anti aircraft fire, and they see a paratrooper falling to the ground. The
group hops the Kirov gate, and runs towards the paratrooper s landing sight,
realizing he is drifting to the ground dead. They began looting his body, and as Lev
got a German knife from the man, the GAZ turned on Voinova Street, and they had
to run. While running back to Kirov, Vera slipped, and Lev had to go and get her.
As he helped her over the fence, the GAZ grabbed him. Since it was after curfew,
he believed execution was inevitable. He was taken to Piter s prison called the
Crosses with no light or sound. Soon, a Russian officer named Kolya was thrown
in the cell with him. In the morning, the two prisoners were taken to a mansion
with NKVD officers in it. The Colonel had a mission for the prisoners. He took
their ration cards, and told Kolya and Lev they had until Thursday to get one
dozen eggs. On that Saturday morning, Kolya and Lev had left their lives on the
line for a dozen eggs. The middle of this novel begins when Kolya tells Lev that
they should try looking in the Haymarket for any eggs. They searched through the
Haymarket, and they find nothing. As they reach the end of their search, a boy tells
them of a man who keeps a coop of
Color Dash Marketing Plan
Goals
Our goals of the marketing proposal will be to attract more participants for the color
run and also attract companies that will sponsor the run. The more dashers that
participate in the run will lead to more money raised for the special needs gym class
at Burlington Township High School. With the help of companies sponsoring the run
it will help decrease the cost the school has to put out for the run. The expenses that
the sponsors will cover will be the cost of police, water, and the color. It is
important that we raise money with the help of sponsors because it will give more
money to the gyms for the special needs.

These strategies will help the people of the community and others to find out the
information about the race. With these three ways of promotion it will secure a good
amount of participants for the color dash and help accomplish our goals. Tactics
To bring these strategies to life, we will flood social media with information and ads
about the race, to get people interested. Social media mostly attracts our younger
audience, whereas the newspaper will attract older dashers. The newspaper ad will
give clear information, and also persuade readers. With individual interaction, any
questions about the race can be answered immediately, and persuasion can be used to
attract more dashers. Resources
In order to implement this plan, we will need sponsors for the booths and stations,
volunteers to help set up and break down the run, police support, and money to buy
supplies for the race. If we cannot get a water sponsor, we will need to buy at least
two waters for each dasher. This will be costly, so our goal is to have a sponsor either
provide the water or provide money for it. As for the color, we will need to purchase
the color needed, unless we are sponsored by a
Speech On Child Trafficking Of Children
1.1Introductory
Some pulls and pushes are experienced by the Indian society when it moves towards
the development. Some problems emerge while some accentuate. Among some of the
pressing social problems faced by the nation, the problem of trafficking of children
deserves a special mention. Children are most important assets of any nation because
they, as future citizen, shape the destiny of the nation. In short, children are nation
builders. Childhood is the most precious stage of a person s life. If children are given
required opportunity for proper growth and development and protected against abuse
and exploitation, the required human resource development take place on which
ultimately depends the development of any nation. Children due to their tender age
are most vulnerable to abuse and exploitation. Trafficking violates all known canons
of human rights and dignity. Children form a predominantly vulnerable class in this
world of tragic and complex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Problem of human trafficking (especially Child) has been accentuated since early
period still exist and has become third international lucrative criminal trade next to
arms and drugs. With no freedom of choice and options for a life with dignity, these
hapless children are trafficked and exploited forcing them to lead a life crippled with
indignity, social stigma, debt bondage and a host of ailments including HIV/AIDS.
The problem in dealing with the very complex phenomenon of child trafficking
begins with its very definition of child. There is no static definition of child and it
has become very difficult to tackle the issues related to child trafficking. The
definition of child varies with different legislations. After going through various
legislations and conventions, child can be defined as a person, whether boy or girl,
under eighteen years of age and is unable to understand the nature and consequences

How Ethical Judgments Limit the Arts and Natural Sciences
Our ethical judgments will always limit us in gaining new knowledge in the arts
and natural sciences. There are some methods that would work to uncover new
information, but would go against ethical standards set by society such as animal
and human testing. There is also the dilemma as to who should be able to access
and view the information available. In art, a knowledge issue that arises is how do
we determine what is appropriate for people to see? The innocent minds of
children disappear when they are exposed to adult like topics. Mature content
needs to be censored in artwork that children can see. However, an artwork viewed
by one may appear to be inapt and shameful, while another might see it as inspiring
and creative. There is also street art that has no way of being censored since it is
out in the open. Some may think it is vandalism while others find it to be works of
art. There is no way to accurately determine what art is appropriate because we use
perception when deciding if it is appropriate. Everyone perceives information
differently so no two people will have the exact same views on what is appropriate
versus what is not. However, some believe that people should be able to express
themselves freely. They should not be forced to hold in their talent and imagination.
People should be able to share their ideas for everyone to enjoy. However, the ethical
judgments of society limit people s ability to do this because society attempts to
censor explicit
Halloween Character Analysis

commentary Can a white child dress as a Halloween character from another race
addresses (discusses, whines about, addresses) the now controversial topic (issue)
of appropriating another race or culture s (appearance). James argues that an
acceptable costume depends on avoiding stereotypes, discrimination, and white
supremacy. (I agree with James about avoiding white supremacy and
discrimination, but I found it very hard to picture a costume which does not make
(use of stereotypes) in one way or another.) Ideally, a person would avoid white
supremacy and discrimination (redundant) in choosing his costume, but I find it
very hard to picture a costume which does not make use of stereotypes in one way
or another. Somehow, she (manages to relate) relates white supremacy to Halloween
in (for no reason) (an unrelated ) (a maniacal) manner. Her point might make sense if
children regularly get upset over Halloween costumes, but she gives no examples
which prove they do. Throughout the paper James mystifies the reader and makes
false (untrue) statements which do not adhere to regular (normal) logic. With(another
word?) hollow or false points, James provides a list of rules to follow to insure a
person offends no one. (state my position in a contrasting thesis) Without stereotypes,
we have nothing on which to base Halloween costumes. Stereotypes help give an idea
on how a costume might constitute as
The Tower Of The Ruins Of Jericho
Stairs are one of the oldest structures in architectural history. They have always
been an important part of a building or structure because without them you wouldn
t be able to get from the bottom to the top or vice versa. There is no actual answer
of when the very first set of stairs was created. But there has been several sources
say that the oldest surviving stairs are found in the ruins of Jericho. There are
claims that these stairs are over 7,000 years old. This could mean that stairs were
at the very birth of civilization itself. One of the first types of stairs used in history
were not made on purpose but were just worn down when they were used as rocks
to climb on or foot holes to get around easier. There was a time when chopped
wood trunks constructed together to make levels, but these were not used in
buildings, they were used to overcome the difficulties of the harsh terrain of the
mountains and valleys. These were used as a survival tool the less time you had
moving around in the harsh woods when you could use the tree trunks to get to a
higher and safer place. At the start stairs ad started off as a survival tool, then
moved onto having purpose for people to get from on area to another used a
necessity in a building or structure, to being the core design feature of a building.
They were made only for a purpose not for a design feature of a structure. The
changes in stairs have varied over the years as to who designed them and the different

The Issue Of Pay Equality
Lilly Ledbetter wasn t lazy; she and all women just want equal pay Rebuttal
The issue of pay equality between genders has always been an important topic. For
some reason many people believe that women are still unfairly paid less than men.
The common statistic, now popular belief, is that women get paid seventy seven
cents for every dollar a man makes. Though this statistic seems real it was no more
than a false statistic used to help politicians get votes. The truth is, if the math was
done the correct way, then this statistic would be significantly smaller than we
originally thought.
When comparing job salaries between workers you would first need to compare the
average income between the two sexes. The statistic used (seventy seven cents) is a
median value for women. The reason why this information would be wrong is
because this compares all ranges of salaries; the amount of people involved, and
finds the middle value in the list. This method is incorrect for two reasons in
particular. First of all, the salaries of all workers of that gender would be compared;
this means workers of different work fields would be compared to each other s.
Second of all, if there were numerically more of one gender than the other then the
statistics for comparing them would be off. Basically, because of these seemingly
obvious reasons the standard deviations in pay differences would be a much larger
value than it should. This is exactly what happened in the statistic seventy

Freedom is such a beautiful thing to have, but back a couple years ago freedom

stand for the peoples rights and became a voice for those that s don t have a voice

freedom, same rights as everyone else, be treated equally as everyone else, and the
pursuit of happiness. In the Speech at the March on Washington by Josephine
Baker, she explain that everyone no matter their color they should be treated the
same as a human being. Baker lived in France for part of her life but returned to the
U.S. and she did not get treated the same as in France. When I was a child and they

Negative Effects Of The Negative Media

power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that s power.
Because they control the minds of the masses (X). The Freedom of Speech and
Freedom of the Press clauses in the First Amendment of the Constitution s Bill of

According to Gottfried and Shearer, A majority of U.S. adults 62% get news on
social media, and 18% do so often...Two thirds of Facebook users (66%) get news
on the site, nearly six in ten Twitter users (59%) get news on Twitter, and seven in
ten Reddit users get news on that platform (Gottfried and Shearer). The vast
majority of adults receive their media updates on unreliable social media
interfaces. Social media platforms are unreliable because they allow for the
creation of fake accounts. Accounts are set up utilizing similarities in logos and
names for the sole purpose of disseminating fake stories and news. Fake news is
more present in today s society due to the frequent use of social media platforms as
a quick source of current events. This increased use of online sites for information
allows for an escalation in misinformation as a result of the establishment of fake
news websites resulting in a negative effect on society. While fake news is a
growing issue in media and the freedom of the press, discrimination is a topic that
has always bore a negative effect on society. Discrimination is prevalent in every
type of media interface. Cambridge Dictionary defines discrimination as the
treatment of a person or particular group of people differently, in a way that is
worse than the way people are usually treated ( Discrimination ). Discrimination can
be by race, age, or gender. All are equally prevalent

which was a major success for Eastwood. Eastwood made his mark as a successful

Impact of Financial Crisis on Gulf Area Essay
Background The global financial crisis that was experienced in 2007/2008 affected
many nations of the world. Some countries such as America and most European
countries were hard hit since they were directly affected by the crisis. Other
countries especially those in Asia and Africa were not adversely affected as they
were not directly hit by the crisis. This crisis started in the United States after the
housing bubble busted. Although the bursting of the housing bubble was the main
cause of the crisis, there were a series of events that preceded it. One event that
indirectly contributed to this crisis was the Russian debt crisis as well as the Asian
financial crisisthat took place in 1997/1998. These two events made many investors to

This foreclosure negatively affected both the financial institutions as well as
individual borrowers. For the borrowers, their wealth was drained and their
purchasing power eroded (Martin, 2009). For the financial institutions, their
strength as banking institutions was greatly affected. Their liquidity had greatly
reduced and most of the banks were struggling to carry out their daily monetary
activities. The total losses that were recorded during this crisis were estimated to
be trillions of dollars globally. The Federal Reserve as well contributed to this
crisis through some of the policies that it instituted. Between the year 2003 and
2004, this institution lowered the rate of the federal funds from the initial 6.5 per
cent to just 1.0 per cent (Jane, 2011). This move was aimed at addressing the
effects that were associated with the terrorist attacks that took place in September
of 2001. These measures were also meant to soften the negative effects that were
occasioned by the collapsed dot com bubble. At this time also, there was a perceived
risk that the United States could suffer from deflation. These measures were
therefore aimed to combat this risk of deflation. These measures increased credit
uptake but the expected results were not realized. To address the said problems, it
was expected that the money borrowed would be invested in business.

International Relations And American Foreign Policy
International Relations and American Foreign Policy are both strong qualities that
help define America as a nation. Not only that, but a strong nation that has the
reputation to not be trifled with. The concept of International Relations is so much
broader than most will ever know and be aware of. It is such a vast field that almost
anything can fall under it. However, there are four main qualities of our foreign policy
and international relations that define the process, and that is statesmanship, military
and war, international economic policy, and cultural exchange. These four are the
core parts of International Relations and America s Foreign Policy.
Statesmanship is basically the ability, qualifications, and practice of managing
public affairs. The three most important qualities of statesmanship are a vision, a
moral compass, and the wisdom to execute. Aristotle believed that statesmanship
was for the betterment of the community. As the city state comes first, there
obviously needs to be a vision for the community, a moral compass to follow and
the wisdom of determining and making the execution of that plan. Statesmanship
helps lead a country to greatness. The Bible also has its own spin of statesmanship.
For example, Proverbs 21:3 says, To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable
to the Lord than sacrifice. This verse alone shows that the essence of politics is not
separated from morality. That is one reason why a moral compass is one of the most
important
Frederik Schiller s Letters On The Aesthetic Education Of
Man
The role of art in human life has been studied by several philosophers throughout
time. Frederik Schiller (1795 1805), in his Letters On the Aesthetic Education of
Man develops the theory of the drives to explain the fragmentation of the human
being and places art in a reconciliatory role between man s personal nature and the
community. The present essay will discuss in some detail Schiller s theory of the
drives, placing the main focus on the role and importance of the play drive in human
life, to finally discuss the features in Schiller s theory of play that help elucidate the
role of art in human life.
According to Schiller, men in modern society experiment a conflict between the
cultivation of individual talent and the welfare of their community as a single being.
This conflict results in an alienation of the being and its consequent fragmentation.
Taking this into account, Schiller states there are two aspects of human nature to be
considered: the sense drive and the form drive. The sense, or sensuous drive, is born
from man s physical existence, and thrives to achieve constant change of matter
within a limit of time (finite). It is man s most primitive state . On the other hand, the
form drive, born from man s rational nature, thrives to free man and maintain his
person despite all the changes of his condition overlooking a limited time frame
(infinite).
This duality of human nature brings forth an imbalance in man s nature when one of
the senses overpowers the

Discuss how Haddon s perspective on personal challenges is conveyed in the
Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time. In your response, make a detailed
reference to your prescribed text.
The novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time by Mark Haddon
conveys the author s perspective on personal challenges. The important challenges
that Haddon conveys is through a fifteen year old teenager named Christopher who is
diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome. This syndrome limits Christopher with coping
and having relationships. The challenges that Haddon makes a close reference to are,
truth against lies, where Christopher hates liars but admires the truth. Another
challenge is having a disability and being different to the society, ... Show more

The narrative voice of Christopher is not linked with fact or logic but is based on
reasoning and reveals his great need of order in a disordered world. Haddon is
trying to point out that people with a chronic disease need to be acknowledged and
need people that are close and distant from them to act in a respectful matter and
respect the mutations of people with a disability.
Another important idea that Haddon refers to is having a disability segregates
someone from the rest of the society and they are seen as eccentric. Christopher s
disability not only affects him, but it also affects his family and the people
surrounding him. Christopher s parents had no prior training as they have a disabled
child as revealed to in the novel, this shows that the society has ignored those
people with disability and has not taken special requirements in order to support
them. The stresses with living with Christopher are shown he is lying on the floor
in a shop, in pool of urine and surrounded by bits of broken mixer. This is shown
through Judy s narrative voice. Christopher is convey as putting stress on his parents
and on their relationships as shown in the novel as his parents being separated.
Although he is clearly intelligent to go to university, coping there will take a great
deal of adjustment on his part and ongoing support from his parents and Siobhan who
is a teacher at his school.

Jane Eyre And A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man
The novels Jane Eyre, by Charlotte BrontГ«, and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young
Man, by James Joyce, both exemplify the bildungsroman style, showing the growth
of the characters over the course of each book. As bildungsroman novels, both texts
share elements common to the genre, such as focusing primarily on character
thoughts and reactions. They also share traits like periods of character development
being tied to a particular place. However, they differ in other areas like narration
style, conflict, and dialogue. The literary techniques that BrontГ« and Joyce use
cause them to approach the development of self as shown in the characters coming
of age, in different ways, while still being in essence the same type of book, reflecting

Helen s devotion to her beliefs has a significant influence on Jane s development as
she retains strong ties to her principles throughout the book, as shown when she
refuses to live with Rochester as his wife after the revelation of Bertha Mason s
continued existence. In Portrait, Christianity is tied to Stephen Dedalus growth as
well, but not in the same manner, as he does not increasingly embrace religion as he
matures. He instead maintains an off and on relationship with the church, as he is at
times wholly devoted to maintaining himself in the manner dictated by the Catholic
leadership and at others is as far as can be from what they give as standards of
goodness and purity. His conflict with establishment versus individuality culminates
in Stephen rejecting the church s teachings in favor of viewing the world through his
own eyes, leaving the strictly scripted trappings of traditional religion behind him, a
major event in his development from childhood into adulthood. Jane Eyre and A
Portrait of the Artist as a Young Manalso use distinct ways to show the growth of
identity in their characters. One of these is the narrator: in Jane Eyre, the story is
told in first person through Jane s own eyes. By writing in the first person, BrontГ«
creates an effect by which Jane s point of view is the only one that is available in its

Negative Eugenics
Eugenics will become a universal practice in the future due to the fact that
humanity never learned the lesson from the Holocaust and the Second World War.
For instance, in the years immediately after the war, many American geneticists
worked as evaluators for many newborns adoptive placements. They would focus
on the [child] s ability to appear convincingly white, relying upon examination of
the sacral spot at the base of the spine, nose width, lip thickness, hair texture and
shape, and even scrotum coloration to determine the type of family most suitable
for the child. Moreover, Peter Singer, who was a moral philosopher born at the end
of the war, publically endorsed the termination of not only disabled infants, but
children and adults as well. Shockingly, he was also a supporter of the Nazi Aktion
T4 program, More recently, an American jail sterilized all of its female prisoners
who both failed to graduate from high school and had five or more children. The jail
administrators did this without the consent of these prisoners. These were examples
of negative eugenics, the one practiced by the Nazi party and caused the deaths of
millions of people. Clearly, the American geneticists, Singer and the jail
administrators all wanted to improve the quality of the population by discouraging
the reproductions of people with less desirable traits, such as African American
features, disabilities and low intelligence. Both the continued practices of negative
eugenics as well as

Agile, Scrum And Kanban
The Daily Stand Up
Agile, Scrum and Kanban
There has been a lot said in the last few years about Agile project management
methodologies, and I have found that the general feeling is that Agile although not
perfect tends to provide better results in software development projects than
waterfall and other methodologies. People tend to be very opinionated about it, and
in my experience there three dominant positions about Agile: you either love it, hate
it or you don t care, in other words, you do not believe in methodologies at all, you
think they are all a waste of time and effort.
I can see where the different of views come from, and in my experience I have been
successful working with Agile, specifically Scrum, in software projects, but ... Show

I personally really like Agile, and I have worked very well in teams using Scrum.
Yes, we did have problems too, customers with bugs and we also fell behind on the
schedule sometimes. But applying Scrum correctly has allowed us to be informed,
committed and react quickly to those issues. Everybody in the team is in sync and
knows what to expect, stakeholders feel informed and involved, and you can
measure progress and forecast releases with a certain degree of certainty. All this
with what I would consider very little friction, bureaucracy and with what I would
consider a short learning curve, especially compared to other methodologies and
frameworks such as Rational Unified Process (RUP).
Agile, Scrum, Kanban and other methodologies are not necessarily perfect nor
complete, but they may be a good match, especially if you are running a software
project. To be honest, after years writing critical path method (CPM) / Gantt based
project management software, I can see that there is a value for every methodology
and it depends heavily on the characteristics of the project, and I think you can apply
Agile methodologies to projects outside the software and IT industry. The Kanban
software development methodology is inspired by the Kanban

Compare And Contrast Bowlby And Maslow
Applying two theoretical approaches I would apply Bowlby (attachment) and
Maslow (humanistic). John Bowlby was a psychoanalyst and believed that mental
health and behavioural problems could be linked to early childhood. Bowlby
suggested that a child would initially form only one primary attachment (monotropy)
and that the attachment figure acted as a secure base for exploring the world. The
attachment relationship acts as a model for all future social relationships so
disrupting it can have severe consequences.
This theory also suggests that there is a significant phase for developing an
attachment (about 0 5 years). If an attachment has not developed throughout this
period then the child will experience from irreversible developmental consequences,
such as lack of intelligence and enhanced aggression. Bowlby also explains in his
theory Deprivation and Privation. Deprivation means the temporary prolonged and
permanent separation of a child from its attachment figure. Privation is where no
attachment figure has been formed. Bowlby identified a number of possible short and
long term effects of maternal deprivation and these are detailed in the table below:

Moral Compass Essay
Moral Compass Essay
Yuebo (Grace) Zhu
I.Introduction
A moral compass is the moral guide on which a person bases his/her decisions and
distinguishes what is right from what is wrong. With our moral compass, we know
what rules we should play by. When I was a child, I learnt Chinese traditional
wisdom, Confucianism, from my parents and elementary school. The core of
Confucianism is humanity, to be altruistic, upright and courteous within the society,
from which I got to know the rules I should honor. Never cheat. Be kind and honest.
Don t do anything that will hurt others. These become the foundation of my moral
compass.
As I grow older, I have been introduced to other theories which cast light on the
formation of my moral compass. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to my moral vision, I make my own code of conduct. First, don t judge.
I shouldn t judge others choices because they have their own rights to choose
freely. Second, don t do anything that will violate others basic rights. Examples are
as covering my cough, not making noise when roommates are sleeping, etc. If I
choose to do the opposite, it would make no difference to me, but it would put other
people s rights at stake. Third, others have no saying in my decisions. I expect people
to respect my rights and not to control or disturb me. Just as the way I respect them,
they should respect me.
III.Defining Moment
My moral compass gives me guidance on many decision making situations. However,
chances are high that interests of different groups cannot always be saved at the same
time. Under these circumstances, no matter which one I choose, there would always
be someone whose rights would be violated. This is my defining moment.
There is no such thing as absolute good but good for . Whenever I meet my defining
moment, I think about the question, Whose good should I be serving? I am not
saying to evaluate whose interests are more valuable, but to evaluate whose interests
are more important TO ME. There are three principles for me to evaluate different
interests. The first is the interest s indirect impact on the third party. For example, the
police are investigating a theft and I know who the thief is. I must

Why did we trade in our ceremonial lives for the workplace? Is this a natural

Gretel Ehrlich asks these deep questions in her short informative essay Chronicles of

Argentina. In this short narrative, the author uses pathos and strong human related

due to the fact that humans cannot live without freshwater. The author uses the

Chemical Reactions And Chemical Reaction Types Essay
Abstract
This paper is about chemical reactions and chemical reaction types. All the data
gathered was from conducting multiple experiments. Each experiment was performed
carefully and analyzed to obtain the necessary information for the paper. That
information included the four signs of a chemical change, the rnx type, and more.
Introduction
A chemical reaction is a process in which elements or compounds react with one
another to create new or different substances. There are two parts to a reaction.
Those two parts are the products and the reactants. The reactants are the chemicals
or chemical compounds that are going through the reaction itself. The products are
chemical elements or chemical compounds that are produced as a result of the
reactant or reactants reacting. There are four key indications that there s a chemical
reaction is taking place. Those four signs include a change in color and/or odor,
formation of a precipitate or a gas, the release or absorption of energy (light, heat,
electricity), and if the reaction is irreversible. Along with this information, there are
ways to predict the products of a reaction.
When dealing with chemical reaction there are equations called chemical equations.
Chemical equations give the reactants and products of a chemical reaction. When
given just the reactants of an equation, you can predict the products by balancing
each side of the equation. The products and reactions are separated by an rnx arrow
Safety Of Sharps Essay
The OR is naturally a high risk environment, surgery naturally exposes staff to
patient blood and body fluids, involves the handling of sharp instruments, and the
close interactions of the surgical team within a limited amount of space (Jagger et

instruments, saws, drills, reamers, and some suture needles and scalpel blades that
may not easily be replaced with Safety Engineered Devices (SED s) (Guest, Kable,

sharps, such as needles, blades and sharp instruments hand to hand (Jagger et al.,

issue, while Australia has not yet legislated for the prevention of sharps injuries,
internationally Europe and America have seen the introduction of such legislation

The Cause Of The German Revolution Of 1848
The revolution of 1848 began in France and spilled over into the German countries.
Here, too, the desire for more democracy had long been growing, and also for
freedom and German unity. A violent upheaval as a last opportunity, is what people
saw as the only possible solution. The patience of the people was at an end, and
only in a violent upheaval was the chance of realizing the desires that had been
wanted to be implemented peacefully for so long.
1847 was generally a year of hunger and distress, for which the landlords were
blamed. France, too, grew dissatisfied with King Louis Philipp, whose dominion had
become ever more severe. In February 1848, a revolution broke out in Paris, in
which workers and citizens fought side by side against the government, and the
unrest began to spread to almost the whole of Europe. In March 1848 there were
revolutions in all the capitals of the German Confederation, the most violent in
Vienna and Berlin, the capital cities of Austria and Prussia. In addition to the
bourgeoisie, which was concerned with national unity and political rights, craftsmen,
workers, and peasants now spoke ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

draw up a constitution for a German state. The composition of this assembly,
however, was anything but representative, that is, it did not reflect social conditions.
Most of the deputies came from the educational community, while tradesmen and
peasants were hardly represented at all. There were 223 judges and lawyers, 106
professors, 104 manufacturers and merchants, but only four craftsmen and one
peasant in the assembly. For this reason, it was also referred to as a parliamentary

Christian Education Goals
Why I Want to Become a Certified Dean of Christian Education
I was approached a few years ago about directing the teaching and learning for my
local church. I was hesitant, but I am delighted that I answered the call. I have
spent four (4) years of study in the Certificate of Progress (COPP) Program and my
biblical knowledge and spiritual growth have been a blessing. I have realized that
although I have spent my life in the church, My work was limited to serving on
committees and proudly be a member in good standing. Being a member in good
standing may have merit, but it is not what we are called to do as Christians.
Although I regularly attended Sunday School and Vacation BibleSchool, I realized
that my biblical knowledge was seriously lacking.
Now that I have completed my COPP studies, I have been asked to assist with
administering future Christian Leadership Schools. As a Christian educator, I see my
purpose in helping to inform and to help believers to understand the Bible.

person to person until the day they died. There was no such thing as an independent
female, and even though they were allowed to be somewhat educated but not allowed
to control their own lives. Jane Eyrewas a woman with a lot of experience in this
department, but she definitely wanted her own control even though she didn t have
the power for this. The novel, Jane Eyre, showed the real treatment of women back in
the Victorian age. The Madwoman and the Blindman: Jane Eyre, Discourse,

There are examples that Bronte uses to show how important looks were to the
community. When Jane Eyre lived with the Reed, Georgiana Reed was driven by
vanity, and she allows her life to be determined by the values of a shallow social

Harry Potter Franchise
The Harry Potter franchise, books or movies, are classic in a variety of aspects.
Whether it be from Harry first learning about Hogwarts and his connection with
Tom Riddle or actually killing Riddle himself in the end. A little background of Harry
himself, in general, is that he is like the Steph Curry of Wizards, a protege to say the
least. His parents were killed at a young age by Voldemort and he was adopted in by
Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia. They are very abusive and favorable towards their
biological son in favor of Harry by an abusive margin. Harry s room was the size of a
closet and he wasn t allowed anywhere to go, receive mail and was very lonely. In
short terms, Harry learns of his ability, goes to Hogwartsand faces a variety of
enemies and rival, Draco Malfoy. His ultimate enemy, Voldemort, is ulitmately met at
the end but in his time at Hogwarts, Harry makes great friends with Hermione and
Ron, eventually wedding Ron s sister, Ginny. They would go on to have three
different children, all named after the more influential characters on Harry in his time
at Hogwarts.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This news is great for a lot of millenials, including myself and I am sure, some of
you guys too. The book itself, is based off of an play, so I am not too sure there
will be an actual movie made out of it but I have a very hard time believing with all
the money to be made that they won t develop a film for theaters in the coming
years, similar to how Star Wars and Disney are lengethening the series. Appropriately
titled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I II , especially since the primary
focus of the book is Harry s son, Albus Severus, named after two of the more
controversial characters in the entire series, Professor Albus Dumbledore and

No Mountain Too High Summary
In the twentieth and twenty first century, African American women have made
considerable progress in history, politics, culture, religion, and in the economy. The
contributions of the strong black female leaders such as Harriet Tubman, Ida B. Wells
Barnett, Rosa Parks, and more currently; Oprah Winfrey, and Michelle Obama, all
have influenced the history of the United States. To begin, Harriet Tubman was a
humanitarian and African American activist during the years of the American Civil
War, 1861 1865. Chapter four Resistance Becomes Rebellion (pages 102 124), it is
discussed that during the anti slaverymovements, The Underground Railroad came to
be one of the most famous ways of harboring slaves to safety and achieving their
freedom.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wells Barnett was another female African American reformer who made a
substantial contribution to the issue of justice for the black community. In chapter
eight of Hine s text entitled: No Mountain Too High (pages 192 212), Wells wrote
editorials after the death of three of her good friends were publicly lynched in
1892. She was completely against lynching, and fought for justice to put an end to
the wrongdoings of the white men . Considered to be one of the most radical
statements made by an African American leader, on page 195 of Hine s text, it is
said that Wells declared that ...The charge of rape against black men was an
excuse, not a reason for lynching... and she then called for Memphis s black citizens
to save their money, and leave a town which will neither protect our lives and
property, nor give us a fair trial in the courts when accused by a white person .
Wells anti lynching campaign was one of the most influential of her time. Hine
states The influence of Wells Barnett on the black community cannot be
overestimated. The radical nature of her message and the aggressiveness of her
style and especially her refusal to accept white justifications of racial violence were
in striking contrast to those of the dominant black leader of the time, Booker T.
Washington. (Hine, page 196). As a young journalist, Wells placed the blame for
racism on the white man , whereas another popular leader, a black man by the name
of Booker T. Washington, suggested that black peoplewere largely responsible for
their own continued
Why People Join Gangs
Gangs evolve over time. Initially, they were groups of people who were neglected
by their parents and needed a place where they would feel a sense of comfort and
freedom denied by the family. Today, they are mostly criminal groups who defy the
law and engage in dangerous activities such as theft, robbery, rape, and murder. They
use crude weapons such as knives, guns to harm and even kill their victims (Wyrick,
2006).
In the US, the crime rate has been growing at a high rate and they are estimated to be
more than one million, with the majority residing in both California and Los Angeles.
Majority of the gang groups are made up of the youth. Most young people join gangs
in order to acquire companionship, love, coupled with some forces that can be
grouped into social, economic and cultural in nature as they struggle to define
themselves and their place ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although some of the factors such as poverty and social isolation may make one
to join gangs, it has been reported that even the youth from rich families also join
gang. For that matter, it is not suffice to conclude that gang is only associated with
the poor in the society. In light of this, the youth from rich families may join gang
because of the need to secure protection from rival gangs. When there are other
gangs from the neighborhood, the youth may feel the need to join so as to avoid
threats and torments from other gangs. According to most reports, major reasons
why a youth may join a gang are varied. Some young people always feel that they
do not receive proper attention and care at home. They may not be receiving the
family love or comfort (Weisel and Howell,
Media Violence and Its Effect on Children Essay
There is a strong agreement among American society that violence in the country is
on the rise. It is easy to see why this is a strong argument among the American
people, especially because of the rising popularity of violent video games and
television programs. However, as these violent video games and television shows are
creating their own place in our society, the reports of violenceamong children are
escalating. This correlation has been studied extensively in the scientific community
in an attempt to discover whether media violence does negatively impact children
but there has yet to be a consensus. There is a split between those that believe that
children are becoming more violent because they are exposed to violent media and...

Later, each child was left alone with the doll. The children that watched the
aggressive interaction acted aggressively toward the doll while the children that
observed the normal interactions with doll did not act aggressively. With these
results, Bandura argued that children imitated behavior they witness, and that if they
observed violent behavior in the media, they were likely to copy this behavior and
act violently themselves (Bandura 575).
Many experiments followed Bandura s footsteps, attempting to prove that there was a
link between media violence and violence among the youth. These studies are still
being conducted today, as there has yet to be a scientific consensus on the issue.
However, despite there being evidence toward the contrary, many organizations have
stated their position on the issue: they are against media violence because it causes
violent behavior in children. One such organization is the National Association for
the Education of Young Children ( Media Violence in Children s Lives ). Influential
organizations such as the NAEYC do not educate the public on all of the findings of
studies intended to discover the relationship between media violence and violence
among children. AS a result, the public continues to believe its original hypothesis
that media violence is the root cause of increasing violent actions among the youth.

Clarence Thomas Case Study
Clarence Thomas was born June 23rd, 1948 in Pin Point, Georgia. Clarence
became the second African American justice to serve on the United States Supreme
Court. His appointment was one of the most controversial in history. Thomas was
sworn in to the Supreme Court on October 23rd, 1991 by Congress. The retirement
of Thurgood Marshall led former president George H.W. Bush to nominate a new
justice (Bio, 2016). Thomas did not always have aspirations of becoming a Supreme
Court Justice. When Thomas was sixteen he earned admittance to St. Vianney
seminary to pursue his dream of becoming a Catholic priest ( Chicago Kent College
of Law at Illinois Tech, 2016). Thomas obtained excellent grades but struggled with
racially charged bullying. By 1967... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Senators should analyze the experience, the qualifications and most importantly
how their nomination would affect the balance of the court. In 1991, senators and
the public flooded Capitol Hill with telephone calls and telegrams, the Senate
voted 52 to 48 in favor of Thomas. Eleven Democrats joined 41 of the 43
Republicans in supporting him (Jr.Apple, 1991). Thomas Clarence did not have
much experience nor qualifications as a judge which contributed heavily on his
rating by the ABA. The balance of the court is an essential aspect as well. When
Thomas filled the vacancy for Marshall the court s liberal justices were declining
which gave the advantage to the conservatives (Dowd, 1991). The court became
more balanced with confirmation of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in 1993. A
senator should not vote solemnly on a nominees political views or their
qualifications, it should be a compilation of both. In conclusion, despite his
obstacles and constant criticism for his lack of questioning in oral arguments, he
has built a reputation as being one of the most conservative justices. Clarence
Thomas has now severed 24 years as a justice on the United States Supreme Court
and shows no signs of retiring ( Chicago Kent College of Law at Illinois Tech,
Comparing Mccarthy And Communism
During the era of McCarthyism, the country was divided by McCarthy s accusations,
threats, and intimidating tactics. Many Americans were accused of being
Communist, both by their government, friends, neighbors and co workers who had
lost their jobs because of being accused of being Communists. McCarthyism had an
enormous effect on the emotional aspect of the country. Non Communists had to
endure the trauma of being accused by their own country. McCarthy s tactics were
dishonorable, as was stated in the video, McCarthyism, McCarthy exploited the Red
Scare for political gain; he claimed to have a list of people that were affiliated with
Communism. He threatened the president, used severe intimidation, and threatened
prison, when trying to
Poly Throwing Rifling
As we learned in this week s article, it shows how lead projectiles preform inside the
barrel of a Glock and other barrels of the polygonal rifling type. What is a
polygonal rifling? The best way to explain it as it relates to firearms is, in a rifling
there is slight rise in the rifling and tighter twist in the barrel. The befit from the
polygonal rifling is less bullet deformation, higher average velocity and a bore that
is easier to clean. Alongside polygonal rifling, the bullet grips tighter to the rifling
and creates a tighter gas seal. The disadvantage of a polygonal barrel is with
traditional lead bullets, their softness tends to be oversized and leave lead behind
above the rifling. Among the slight rise in the polygonal rifling,
Keng s Reaction To Urras In The Dispossessed By Ursula
Leguin
Dispossessed
Ambassador Keng s reaction to Urras in Ursula LeGuin s The Dispossessed implies
that the conditions on Earth are truly deplorable at the time the story takes place,
consequently commenting on LeGuin s perception of the state of the Earth at the
time she was writing The Dispossessed. and the Earthlings reaction to Urras
supports LeGuin s claim that what is viewed as utopic depends upon the viewer. In
the book, Keng speaks little of what life is like on Earth, but it is clear from what she
does say, and from her reaction to Urras, that life on Earth in her time is terrible.
Throughout the book, the reader is exposed to many experiences on Urras that lead
Shevek to call it Hell (347). However, Keng explains that, To me, and to all my
fellow Terrans who have seen the planet, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is the world that comes as close as any could to Paradise. (LeGuin 347). The two
offer immensely different views of life on the same planet views fueled by their
life experiences on their home worlds. The fact that Keng views Urras a Paradise
clearly implies that life on her planet must be far worse than life on Urras or Anarres.
Like Shevek, Keng is an outsider on Urras: We are both aliens here, Shevek. (347).
Both hail from different foreign planets and are therefore removed from the
culture of Urras. But despite this shared experience, they have vastly different
views of the planet. Shevek despises Urras, as he feels the people are immoral and
value nothing of worth. The overarching philosophy of the planet centered on
profit and possession is at odds with Shevek s most basic beliefs of freedom and
equality. Urras may be rich in material goods, but Shevek finds it lacking in the
qualities he sees are valuable, such as brotherhood and compassion. For example, he
compares Urras to a box, a package,
immigration debate
I. Intro: The Democratic Party has fiercely advocated for the enactment of the
DREAM Act. Republicans however have strongly opposed it and have left little
hope for any reform for illegal immigrants. However not passing the DREAM Act
and stalling on reform for illegal immigrants is doing an injustice to these immigrants
and most importantly to American citizens. Today many US citizens suffer from a
depleting economy and anything that can help revive it should and must be done. I
see the DREAM Act as a great opportunity to aid and provide relief to the economy.
II. The DREAM Act: The Development, Relief and Education for AlienMinors Act
(DREAM Act), is a proposed bipartisan legislation that is meant to provide amnesty
and relief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those eligible for the DREAM Act can provide so much to the economy if they were
granted the opportunity to do so. It isn t like they are going anywhere and, they have
adopted so many American values into their lives. By giving them the amnesty they
need and arguable deserve, our economy can only benefit. The government can
generate more tax revenue from them, thus ending the outcry that they don t pay tax.
Also by giving them the same rights as citizens in the job market, they will be paid
what they deserve thus possibly stimulating consumer spending by them.
IV. Conclusion: Democrats seem to be the party that is trying to solve the immigration
issue here in the US. They have advocated hard for the passing of the DREAM Act,
a legislation that I believe needs to and must be passed. I advocate it on the basis
that the US economy really needs this; the potential the DREAM Act has in not just
alleviating the immigration problem but also in helping revive an ailing economy.
We need to finally reap the economic benefits of these undocumented immigrants that
are in this country and likely here to stay. It is until I realized what the DREAM Act
can do to the economy, is when I really began to see it as something that must happen
fast.

Religious and Architectural Sites of Florence Essay
Religious and Architectural Sites of Florence
According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization,
Italy is home to some 60 percent of the world?s most famous works of art.? Of these,
one half are found in Florence (19).? Florence gained most of this collection during
the fifteenth century, when the Florentines decided to move back from Gothic
fashion to the more Romanesque style of art and architecture.? This return to the
Classic style is known as the Renaissance, and Florence was its birthplace.?
Renaissance artists prospered greatly on account of the financial support they
received from wealthy citizens (such as the Medici family) and the church, which
purchased numerous works of art (6).? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

1296.? The cathedral was started it in the Gothic style (3), but in 1366 the City of
Florence decided that all architecture should follow the Roman style (3); hence it?s
mixed styles seen in the bell tower and dome (15).?? Although parts of the cathedral
were not completed until as late as the 19th century, construction overall was
completed by 1436, when Pope Eugene IV dedicated the building on March 25th
(Florentine New Year), 140 years after Arnolfo laid the first stone (16).
Brunelleschi?s Dome:
A most famous aspect of the Santa Maria is its dome.? At 300 feet high, and 136
feet in diameter, the dome makes Santa Maria the largest church in the catholic

thereby marking the beginning of Renaissance Architecture (6).? The dome was

Analysis Of The Novel Ethan Frome
The setting of a novel is typically only the frame in which a novel takes place; it
makes no grandiose overtures to become a larger part of the novel than it is.
However, the setting of Starkfield in Ethan Frome is different in that the depiction of
Starkfield is integral to one s understanding of the underlying motives and feelings of
the characters in the novel. The accumulated cold of many Starkfield winters
(Wharton 5) tangibly affects the personalities and actions of Ethan, Zeena, and
Mattie, mostly negatively. The character of Ethan Fromeis first introduced to us via
an unnamed narrator, who is an engineer temporarily assigned to Starkfield for
work, and Harmon Gow, a former stagecoach driver. Ethan Frome is the most
striking figure in Starkfield, though he was but the ruin of a man (1), and looks as
if he was dead and in hell now (2). His life was a series of misfortunes, starting with
the death of his father, the downward spiral of his mother s mental health, and his
irrational decision to marry his cousin, Zenobia Pierce, and her subsequent spiral into
sickliness. From the outset, Ethan Frome doomed himself the second he left his
technical college and returned home to Starkfield, never to leave again. Everything
about Starkfield seems to mock him, especially the cemetery that inters Ethan s
family, the headstones seemingly mocking him with their existence: we never got
away how should you? (21). His refusal to make any lasting decisions in his life
The Necklace
The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant displays a critical view of the materialistic
ways which society forces upon women. During the late 1800 s, wealth and social
status defined a person. Mathilde Loisel, a middle class woman, is not content
with her social status. She has dreams of being wealthy and having a plethora of
riches. Through the use of irony and tragedy in the life of Mathilde Loisel,
Maupassant displays the harsh realities behind materialism. While focusing on the
disappointments in Mathilde s life, de Maupassant outlines the depressing, wasted
life of a once healthy and well off woman. During the time period in which this
story takes place, most people would have viewed Mathilde and her husband as
upper middle class. They were not poor by any means. Mathilde comes from a
family of clerks and her husband has a solid job, which allows them to live
comfortably. Some people may consider them to be a part of the upper class due to
the fact that they have a maid. The majority of people during this... Show more

with disdain, then looked at him with an irritated gland [glance] and said,
impatiently, that she had nothing to wear (23). Her husband gives up his savings

money to buy the perfect dress, Mathilde is still unsatisfied due to her lack of
jewels. It annoys me to not have a single jewel, not a single stone, nothing to put on

There is also the dilemma as to who should be able to access and view the information available. In art, a knowledge issue that arises is how do we determine what is appropriate for people to see? The innocent minds of children disappear when they are exposed to adult like topics. Mature content needs to be censored in artwork that children can see. However, an artwork viewed by one may appear to be inapt and shameful, while another might see it as inspiring and creative. There is also street art that has no way of being censored since it is out in the open. Some may think it is vandalism while others find it to be works of art. There is no way to accurately determine what art is appropriate because we use perception when deciding if it is appropriate. Everyone perceives information differently so no two people will have the exact same views on what is appropriate versus what is not. However, some believe that people should be able to express themselves freely. They should not be forced to hold in their talent and imagination. People should be able to share their ideas for everyone to enjoy. However, the ethical judgments of society limit people s ability to do this because society attempts to censor explicit

Halloween Character Analysis Professor and vice dean at the University of Miami School of Law Osamudia James commentary Can a white child dress as a Halloween character from another race addresses (discusses, whines about, addresses) the now controversial topic (issue) of appropriating another race or culture s (appearance). James argues that an acceptable costume depends on avoiding stereotypes, discrimination, and white supremacy. (I agree with James about avoiding white supremacy and discrimination, but I found it very hard to picture a costume which does not make (use of stereotypes) in one way or another.) Ideally, a person would avoid white supremacy and discrimination (redundant) in choosing his costume, but I find it very hard to picture a costume which does not make use of stereotypes in one way or another. Somehow, she (manages to relate) relates white supremacy to Halloween in (for no reason) (an unrelated ) (a maniacal) manner. Her point might make sense if children regularly get upset over Halloween costumes, but she gives no examples which prove they do. Throughout the paper James mystifies the reader and makes false (untrue) statements which do not adhere to regular (normal) logic. With(another word?) hollow or false points, James provides a list of rules to follow to insure a person offends no one. (state my position in a contrasting thesis) Without stereotypes, we have nothing on which to base Halloween costumes. Stereotypes help give an idea on how a costume might constitute as

They have always been an important part of a building or structure because without them you wouldn t be able to get from the bottom to the top or vice versa. There is no actual answer of when the very first set of stairs was created. But there has been several sources say that the oldest surviving stairs are found in the ruins of Jericho. There are claims that these stairs are over 7,000 years old. This could mean that stairs were at the very birth of civilization itself. One of the first types of stairs used in history were not made on purpose but were just worn down when they were used as rocks to climb on or foot holes to get around easier. There was a time when chopped wood trunks constructed together to make levels, but these were not used in buildings, they were used to overcome the difficulties of the harsh terrain of the mountains and valleys. These were used as a survival tool the less time you had moving around in the harsh woods when you could use the tree trunks to get to a higher and safer place. At the start stairs ad started off as a survival tool, then moved onto having purpose for people to get from on area to another used a necessity in a building or structure, to being the core design feature of a building. • 11. The Issue Of Pay Equality Lilly Ledbetter wasn t lazy; she and all women just want equal pay Rebuttal The issue of pay equality between genders has always been an important topic. For some reason many people believe that women are still unfairly paid less than men. The common statistic, now popular belief, is that women get paid seventy seven cents for every dollar a man makes. Though this statistic seems real it was no more than a false statistic used to help politicians get votes. The truth is, if the math was done the correct way, then this statistic would be significantly smaller than we originally thought. When comparing job salaries between workers you would first need to compare the average income between the two sexes. The statistic used (seventy seven cents) is a median value for women. The reason why this information would be wrong is because this compares all ranges of salaries; the amount of people involved, and finds the middle value in the list. This method is incorrect for two reasons in particular. First of all, the salaries of all workers of that gender would be compared; this means workers of different work fields would be compared to each other s. Second of all, if there were numerically more of one gender than the other then the statistics for comparing them would be off. Basically, because of these seemingly obvious reasons the standard deviations in pay differences would be a much larger value than it should. This is exactly what happened in the statistic seventy

Their liquidity had greatly reduced and most of the banks were struggling to carry out their daily monetary activities. The total losses that were recorded during this crisis were estimated to be trillions of dollars globally. The Federal Reserve as well contributed to this crisis through some of the policies that it instituted. Between the year 2003 and 2004, this institution lowered the rate of the federal funds from the initial 6.5 per cent to just 1.0 per cent (Jane, 2011). Not only that, but a strong nation that has the reputation to not be trifled with. The concept of International Relations is so much broader than most will ever know and be aware of. It is such a vast field that almost anything can fall under it. However, there are four main qualities of our foreign policy and international relations that define the process, and that is statesmanship, military and war, international economic policy, and cultural exchange. These four are the core parts of International Relations and America s Foreign Policy. Statesmanship is basically the ability, qualifications, and practice of managing public affairs. The three most important qualities of statesmanship are a vision, a moral compass, and the wisdom to execute. Aristotle believed that statesmanship was for the betterment of the community. As the city state comes first, there obviously needs to be a vision for the community, a moral compass to follow and the wisdom of determining and making the execution of that plan. Statesmanship helps lead a country to greatness. The Bible also has its own spin of statesmanship. For example, Proverbs 21:3 says, To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. This verse alone shows that the essence of politics is not separated from morality. That is one reason why a moral compass is one of the most important

Frederik Schiller (1795 1805), in his Letters On the Aesthetic Education of Man develops the theory of the drives to explain the fragmentation of the human being and places art in a reconciliatory role between man s personal nature and the community. The present essay will discuss in some detail Schiller s theory of the drives, placing the main focus on the role and importance of the play drive in human life, to finally discuss the features in Schiller s theory of play that help elucidate the role of art in human life. According to Schiller, men in modern society experiment a conflict between the cultivation of individual talent and the welfare of their community as a single being. This conflict results in an alienation of the being and its consequent fragmentation. Taking this into account, Schiller states there are two aspects of human nature to be considered: the sense drive and the form drive. The sense, or sensuous drive, is born from man s physical existence, and thrives to achieve constant change of matter within a limit of time (finite). It is man s most primitive state . On the other hand, the form drive, born from man s rational nature, thrives to free man and maintain his person despite all the changes of his condition overlooking a limited time frame (infinite). This duality of human nature brings forth an imbalance in man s nature when one of the senses overpowers the

They would focus on the [child] s ability to appear convincingly white, relying upon examination of the sacral spot at the base of the spine, nose width, lip thickness, hair texture and shape, and even scrotum coloration to determine the type of family most suitable for the child. The jail administrators did this without the consent of these prisoners. These were examples of negative eugenics, the one practiced by the Nazi party and caused the deaths of millions of people. John Bowlby was a psychoanalyst and believed that mental health and behavioural problems could be linked to early childhood. Bowlby suggested that a child would initially form only one primary attachment (monotropy) and that the attachment figure acted as a secure base for exploring the world. The attachment relationship acts as a model for all future social relationships so disrupting it can have severe consequences. This theory also suggests that there is a significant phase for developing an attachment (about 0 5 years). If an attachment has not developed throughout this period then the child will experience from irreversible developmental consequences, such as lack of intelligence and enhanced aggression. Bowlby also explains in his theory Deprivation and Privation. Deprivation means the temporary prolonged and permanent separation of a child from its attachment figure. Privation is where no attachment figure has been formed. Moral Compass Essay Moral Compass Essay Yuebo (Grace) Zhu I.Introduction A moral compass is the moral guide on which a person bases his/her decisions and distinguishes what is right from what is wrong. With our moral compass, we know what rules we should play by. When I was a child, I learnt Chinese traditional wisdom, Confucianism, from my parents and elementary school. The core of Confucianism is humanity, to be altruistic, upright and courteous within the society, from which I got to know the rules I should honor. Never cheat. Be kind and honest. According to my moral vision, I make my own code of conduct. First, don t judge. I shouldn t judge others choices because they have their own rights to choose freely. Second, don t do anything that will violate others basic rights. Examples are as covering my cough, not making noise when roommates are sleeping, etc. If I choose to do the opposite, it would make no difference to me, but it would put other people s rights at stake. Third, others have no saying in my decisions. I expect people to respect my rights and not to control or disturb me. Just as the way I respect them, they should respect me. III.Defining Moment My moral compass gives me guidance on many decision making situations. However, chances are high that interests of different groups cannot always be saved at the same time. Under these circumstances, no matter which one I choose, there would always be someone whose rights would be violated. This is my defining moment. There is no such thing as absolute good but good for . Whenever I meet my defining moment, I think about the question, Whose good should I be serving? I am not saying to evaluate whose interests are more valuable, but to evaluate whose interests are more important TO ME. There are three principles for me to evaluate different interests. The first is the interest s indirect impact on the third party. For example, the police are investigating a theft and I know who the thief is. I must

All the data gathered was from conducting multiple experiments. Each experiment was performed carefully and analyzed to obtain the necessary information for the paper. That information included the four signs of a chemical change, the rnx type, and more. Introduction A chemical reaction is a process in which elements or compounds react with one another to create new or different substances. There are two parts to a reaction. Those two parts are the products and the reactants. The reactants are the chemicals or chemical compounds that are going through the reaction itself. The products are chemical elements or chemical compounds that are produced as a result of the reactant or reactants reacting. There are four key indications that there s a chemical reaction is taking place. Those four signs include a change in color and/or odor, formation of a precipitate or a gas, the release or absorption of energy (light, heat, electricity), and if the reaction is irreversible. Along with this information, there are ways to predict the products of a reaction. When dealing with chemical reaction there are equations called chemical equations. Chemical equations give the reactants and products of a chemical reaction. When given just the reactants of an equation, you can predict the products by balancing each side of the equation. The products and reactions are separated by an rnx arrow

The government can generate more tax revenue from them, thus ending the outcry that they don t pay tax. Also by giving them the same rights as citizens in the job market, they will be paid what they deserve thus possibly stimulating consumer spending by them. IV. Conclusion: Democrats seem to be the party that is trying to solve the immigration issue here in the US. They have advocated hard for the passing of the DREAM Act, a legislation that I believe needs to and must be passed. I advocate it on the basis that the US economy really needs this; the potential the DREAM Act has in not just alleviating the immigration problem but also in helping revive an ailing economy. We need to finally reap the economic benefits of these undocumented immigrants that are in this country and likely here to stay. It is until I realized what the DREAM Act can do to the economy, is when I really began to see it as something that must happen fast. Works Cited Debate: DREAM Act Background and Context. • 53. Analysis Of The Novel Ethan Frome The setting of a novel is typically only the frame in which a novel takes place; it makes no grandiose overtures to become a larger part of the novel than it is. However, the setting of Starkfield in Ethan Frome is different in that the depiction of Starkfield is integral to one s understanding of the underlying motives and feelings of the characters in the novel. The accumulated cold of many Starkfield winters (Wharton 5) tangibly affects the personalities and actions of Ethan, Zeena, and Mattie, mostly negatively. The character of Ethan Fromeis first introduced to us via an unnamed narrator, who is an engineer temporarily assigned to Starkfield for work, and Harmon Gow, a former stagecoach driver. Ethan Frome is the most striking figure in Starkfield, though he was but the ruin of a man (1), and looks as if he was dead and in hell now (2). His life was a series of misfortunes, starting with the death of his father, the downward spiral of his mother s mental health, and his irrational decision to marry his cousin, Zenobia Pierce, and her subsequent spiral into sickliness. From the outset, Ethan Frome doomed himself the second he left his technical college and returned home to Starkfield, never to leave again. Everything about Starkfield seems to mock him, especially the cemetery that inters Ethan s family, the headstones seemingly mocking him with their existence: we never got away how should you? (21). His refusal to make any lasting decisions in his life
  • 54. The Necklace The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant displays a critical view of the materialistic ways which society forces upon women. During the late 1800 s, wealth and social status defined a person. Mathilde Loisel, a middle class woman, is not content with her social status. She has dreams of being wealthy and having a plethora of riches. Through the use of irony and tragedy in the life of Mathilde Loisel, Maupassant displays the harsh realities behind materialism. While focusing on the disappointments in Mathilde s life, de Maupassant outlines the depressing, wasted life of a once healthy and well off woman. During the time period in which this story takes place, most people would have viewed Mathilde and her husband as upper middle class. They were not poor by any means. Mathilde comes from a family of clerks and her husband has a solid job, which allows them to live comfortably. Some people may consider them to be a part of the upper class due to the fact that they have a maid. The majority of people during this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her wonderful husband and comfortable home are taken for granted. She does not realize how much her husband has given up for her happiness. Even after being invited to a magnificent ball with the wealthiest of people, she is still churlish. Mathilde s response shows her true character: she threw the invitation on the table with disdain, then looked at him with an irritated gland [glance] and said, impatiently, that she had nothing to wear (23). Her husband gives up his savings and his desires for Mathilde to be satisfied for this one night. After using all of their money to buy the perfect dress, Mathilde is still unsatisfied due to her lack of jewels. It annoys me to not have a single jewel, not a single stone, nothing to put on (23) she exclaimed. Her husband was forced to come up with a
