Hobbes Writings Of Political And Moral Philosophy
Hobbes writings of political and moral philosophy remain some of the most influential and important
reference points in contemporary affairs. One drive in human nature, fear, is a central theme in his
works regarding political thought. His thesis works with ideas that order consists of existing
harmoniously through avoidance of both danger and the manipulating fear of civil conflict, which can
be achieved through our entire faith in single, unaccountable sovereignty of a person or group. Firstly,
Hobbes remains a key political philosopher because of his revolutionary political and moral thought.
Although innovative, some view his work as simplistic, assuming his work is a form of reductionism
in which basic being consists of primitive incentives or impulses to reach consciously complex ideals.
However, despite this view, he engages with an undeniable fact; that human authority requires
justification. A justified, adequate sovereign authority should prioritise equality and rights for all
people, safeguarding their basic interests. Hobbes may be viewed as a progressive Machiavelli, based
on the clear parallel between the attitude of Hobbes and the earlier political thinker, emphasising the
unforgiving realities of authority, power and political emancipation. The secular way that Machiavelli
viewed politics is reflected in Hobbes work, as he sought to investigate how authority could be
persuasive without manipulating influences like religion. His work bases itself in reason

The Issue Of Canadian Fisheries
LORRAINE MBUYI ECONOMICS 405
Natural resource economics is greatly concerned with solving a phenomenon referred to as the
Tragedy of the Commons , also known as a situation that results in the overuse of open access
resources by independent agents, looking to retrieve as many resources as possible without giving
regard to other users of the common property. This essay focuses on the issue of Canadian fisheries as
a common example of the issue and a topic subject to much academic research.
This essay serves as a two part discussion of policies regarding common property open access.
Specifically, two main categories of common property source regulation price and quantity regulation.
The goal is to explain what properties of a resource ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Economists efforts to create a regulatory infrastructure have led to certain key policy assumptions.
The first step towards determining the effects of the fishing industry is to calculate the amount of
fishing capacity per season, based upon anticipated prices, costs, biomass level, and the regulations set
by the regulatory agency (Homans Wilen, 1997, p. 3). The government assumes a regulatory stance in
light of environmental goals, anticipating an amount of fishing activity, which is acceptable. The
combination of the government and the industry should theoretically result in an equilibrium between
the companies and the regulatory sector. Their main task is to characterize an equilibrium between the
fishing industry and the regulatory infrastructure so that various situations related to fishing are taken
into account. The cycle of biomass growth between seasons is dependent on the corresponding
harvest, biological growth, environmental effects and the predetermined quota. Ultimately, it is
assumed a full steady state can be reached. The goal of quantity regulation is to achieve a steady state
of biomass in the long run, given constant industry and regulatory behaviour (Homans Wilen, 1997, p.
9). PRICE REGULATION
Using economic incentives to conserve fisheries must occur under a regulatory framework that is
enforceable. Price regulation as a result of taxes leaves many

Walmart Is The Nation s Largest Business
The first Walmart was opened on July 2, 1962 in Rogers Arkansas. It was the visionary work of Sam
Walton. In 1967 Waltons family already owned 24 stores and had 12.7 million dollars on sales. By
1980 Walmart had already had 276 stores and employed 21,000. In 1992 Sam Walton said the
company s mission which was to save people money so they can live better. In 1993 walmart
celebrated its first one billion sales for a week. In 2000 customers were allowed to shop online. By
2002 wal mart had passed the 500 largest American companies. Walmart has spread to 27 different
countries outside the United States. Now Walmart is the nation s largest business in the world. It
employs 1.4 million people with 5,239 locations within the United States locations. Walmart has had
questionable ethical business practises in there stores. Low wages at Walmart locations have been a
problem. A report from the National Employment Law Project states that the low prices at Walmart
provided to the customers have a hidden cost to the workers. For Walmart to have it s low prices and
to still have a profit they have to pay low wages to the workers. Its low wages have a negative effect to
all the 2.2 million workers walmart has. This makes it harder for the workers to buy food, housing and
other bills like the water and the light. Wal mart has plumed wages in it s places of supply by hiring
people outside the company to provide it s services that traditionally are performed within Wal mart s
warehouse.

Laboratory Design Dq
For this task I am analysing why a good laboratory design is important for efficiency and
effectiveness. The main aim of an effective lab design is to create space which reduces the traffic flow
and allows the technicians to move around the lab in a suitable way. Good lab designs will also
improve the environment in the lab. An effective design allows space for cleaning systems and
processes such as ducting. I will have a ducting system coming from the fume hoods, through the
cooling system and out of the laboratory. I will include this here because it is the shortest possible way
of making an exit for the system. Having a tidy and efficient lab makes the work easier for the staff so
they perform their tasks better and get more done therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This makes the staff able to perform more tasks, making the lab and the amount of work more
efficient. There will be chemicals used to dilute different solutions in my lab which may perhaps be
toxic or hazardous. I have included special facility storage in my lab which ensures safety and
protection for the staff. To make the lab more efficient, I have placed rooms in areas in terms of logic
so it makes the work easier to do and avoids contaminating anything by trailing samples through the
lab. If I was to have a poor design, this would make the lab dangerous as dangerous chemicals could
be leaked over other samples and potentially the technicians if they aren t wearing the appropriate
clothing. I have also included an open space area in order to allow more tasks to be performed,
meaning more tasks get completed and is therefore more efficient. All around my lab I have included
fire exits, which further more protects the staff and gives them a sense of comfort knowing that there
is a nearby escape route from wherever they are working. I have also added other safety features such
as eye wash stations and protective

Constraints Of Empire
Nationalism equals political and economic modernization [which] which really ends up being a
perverse trick. This equation serves to mobilize popular forces and galvanize a social movement, but
where does the movement lead and what interest does it serve? In most cases it involves a delegated
struggle, in which the modernization project also establishes in power the new ruling group that is
charged with carrying it out. The revolution is thus offered up, hands and feet bound, to the new
bourgeoisie (Hardt 133).
In essence, it is often merely the face of power that changes, and not actually the structures that make
up and uphold oppression.
The new nation created by liberation must still contend with the world orders in which it finds itself,

Appiah largely makes arguments about what is considered right, or the different ways in which
cultures should respond to certain practices. Hardt and Negri, on the other hand present an analysis
that is, for the most part, amoral. They make observations about habits and trends within the shifting
power of political and economic conditions, though their analysis is suffused with disdain for the
system as they currently see it. Appiah makes historical observations about cultural interaction, honor,
and respect that he then extrapolates to the practices of a modern culture which he considers to be
immoral. Hardt and Negri, on the other hand, focus on more post colonial political and economic
conditions and seek to determine a pattern of causes and intermingling influences, while decrying an

The Goddess Of The Harvest

Powerful Women
Do you know who the supreme goddess is? Or the goddess of the harvest? What about the goddess of
love? Most goddesses are symbolized by and associated with fertility and marriage but very few with
power and war. Although there are many Greek goddesses, Hera, Demeter, and Aphrodite are three of
the most important.
Hera is the wife of Zeus. She is the goddess of women and marriage and also known as the most
matron goddess. Hera considered the lion, the cow, and the peacock scared. She is often portrayed as
majestic and solemn. A pomegranate is the symbol of fertile blood and death, Hera is often shown
holding up a pomegranate. Juno is considered Hera s counterpart ... Show more content on

Hera is intertwined throughout mythology. When Alcmene becomes pregnant with Heracles, Hera
tried to tie her legs in knots to prevent the birth. Alcmene s servant, Galanthis, lied to Hera and told
her that the baby had already been born. When Hera found out about the deception, she turned
Galanthis in to a weasel. Later, while Heracles was still an infant, Hera sent two serpents to kill him.
His nurse found him with a single snake in each hand squeezed to death. Another time, he was on a
quest and she sent amazon s to attack him. In another account, Zeus had tricked Hera into nursing
Heracles. When Hera realized who he was, she ripped him off of her breast. Upon his removal, a spurt
of her breast milk shot and was smeared across the sky. These attacks continued until some myths
state that he saved her. Porphyrion was a giant that tried to rape Hera and Heracles saved her. Some
myths state that she even gave her daughter, Hebe, to Heracles to be his bride.
Hera has showed in many myths how vengeful she could be, either by killing, torturing, or turning the
subject into something else. In one account, Zeus deeply loved Lamia (queen of Libya). Hera turned
her into a monster and killed their children. Gerana, the queen of Pygmies, once bragged that she was
more beautiful than Hera. In response, Hera turned Gerana in to a crane. Hera has her most dominant
role in the epic poem, The Illiad.

The Problem Of Illegal Immigration
Most people believe that some critical situations can be fixed with small changes like playing cards!.
Therefor, people should first know what are the causes then they can suggest solutions to fix the
problem or block it. Illegal immigration has been a problem that has plagued the United States for
many years. Most people wish to find solutions to help the United States to prevent illegal
immigrations. Since the number of illegal immigrants is increasing and there have not been any
positive solutions to prevent or reduce this problem, many researchers keep researching for helpful
solutions. Although the United States is basically a country of immigrants, that does not necessarily
mean they should accept illegal immigrants. Because illegal immigrants have been increasing since
1980, especially from Mexico, the most useful solutions to help the United States government to
reduce illegal immigrants are not giving newborns U.S citizenship, forcing border guards to be more
active, and stop hiring illegal immigrants.
Generally, for a long time the United States has complained about the huge number of illegal
immigrants that come from Mexico and have found it difficult to block them. According to Zong and
Batalova ,2014 Mexicans have been the largest immigrant group in the United States. As of 2013,
approximately 11.6 million Mexican immigrants resided in the United States up from 2.2 million in
1980 and Mexican accounted for 28 percent of 41.3 million foreign born . This

The Origin Of The Word Nano
1.1 Introduction
Nanotechnology, the term derived from the Greek word nano, meaning dwarf, applies the principles of
engineering, electronics, physical and material science, and manufacturing at a molecular or
submicron level. The materials at nanoscale could be a device or a system or supramolecular
structures. Earlier Albert Franks defined it as that area of science and technology where dimensions
and tolerances are in the nano range. Nanomaterials are the most promising tool in nanotechnology
that posses very unique size dependent properties that makes them superior and indispensable in many
areas of human activity. In recent years, synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles have received
considerable attention because of their distinctive properties and potential uses in various fields like
microelectronics, photocatalysis, magnetic devices, biotechnology and biomedical fields. Various
nanoformulations have already been studied and applied as drug delivery systems with great success
and they still have greater potential for many applications like drugs, antibiotics, protein delivery,
imaging techniques, anti tumour therapy and as a carrier for Blood Brain Barrier (BBB) crossing
(Yezhelyev, 2006; Chen, 2013; Naahidi, 2013). Nanoparticles provide massive advantages regarding
drug targeting, controlled release and can be combined with diagnosis and other imaging therapy,
hence, emerge as one of the major tools in nanomedicine (Shrivastav, 2013; Jain, 2012).

Human Rights During The War On Terror Essay
INTP 245 Research Essay
What role do Human Rights play in the war on terror? How has this affected the foreign policy of the
United States of America when combating this war?
When looking internationally over the past decade there has been an emergence of vague definable
terms that act as holistic guidelines for how international order should be constructed. One of these
terms is human rights which acts as a set of overarching guidelines that all States should aim for and
achieve. States have incorporated the ideals of human rights into their foreign policies in various ways
especially in the area of war and conflict. This essay will focus on what role human rights play in the
war on terror and how the human rights discourse has affected the United States of America s (USA)
foreign policy on the war on terror. This ultimately illustrates that the Western construct of human
rights is an invaluable policy tool as a mandate to interfere in other states affairs and USA have
continually utilised it as such a tool.
The concept of human rights has become ambiguous, with very little agreement regarding its meaning
and application internationally. The concept of human rights could be deemed as what Gallie termed
as an essentially contested concept. This argues that when it comes to certain concepts there is just
simply no one clearly definable general use that is widely agreed on. There are a variety of elements
and words that can be used to describe the concepts of human

My Presentation Of A Training Program
As life is flying past me on both sides, I am walking, no, I am jogging, no, I am sprinting up over the
hill. I can already see the finish line off in the distance, it is still pretty far away but closing in fast. At
this point in the race to the end of the semester I am glad I am going through a training program called
public speaking. There is no way possible I would be over the hill looking down with the finish line in
sight, if it wasn t for this exercise program. This program has been getting me in shape every day since
the start. With two presentations complete I felt a little more confident in my abilities to give a
presentation. I would like to think that I am getting better and better with every opportunity I am given
to speak. My presentation three was an overall improvement off of my presentation two. I took skills
from my first two presentations and blended them with new acquired skills to strengthen Presentation
three. In presentation three, the order I presented my points were; Notable athletes in the pay to play
scandal, the pro s of collegiate athletes getting paid, and the con s of collegiate athletes getting paid. I
chose to do tell the audience about the notable pay to play athletes first because it gives them a little
background information on the topic. Telling them who has been caught in the scandal makes them
feel more relatable to the topic, because now they know who this has affected. Then, I decided to tell
them about the pro s of college

Analysis Of To This Day By Shane Koyczan
Shane Koyczan is known in the world as an award winning spoken word poet. He was born in
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Soon after birth he went to live with his grandparents in Penticton,
British Columbia. Shane s childhood was extremely hard and painful. He had to deal with malicious
bullying, so severe that it led to him suffering depression. He believed that he could never find
happiness or love. He carried the effects of the mental, emotional, and physical abuse he endured
throughout his childhood into his adult life. Information about Shane Koyczan s life was provided by
the site called, The Poetry Foundation . When Shane graduated at Okanagan College, he started to
explore poetry and speaking. He wanted to send a message to the world about the harm social injustice
can cause. He also wanted to inspire and help people who are going through difficult times by sharing
his experiences. As Shane started to write poems, his theme would be on social injustice, love,
happiness, and ideas. He would use the painful childhood memories and incorporate poetic elements
such as metaphor and rhyme. He uses these elements in one of his poems called, To This Day . A
spoken word poem that tells the story of shane s childhood. Three lines read, To this day he is a stick
of TNT lit from both ends, Could describe in detail how the sky bends, in the moments before it s

Mormon Beliefs Of The Mormons
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints also known as the Mormons was formally organized
in a small log cabin in upstate New York in 1830 (Worldwide Statistics, 2017). By 1947, the initial six
member church had grown to one million members. Today, current church members are over fifteen
million.
One of the Mormons religious belief is missionary work. The Mormons missionary work is based on
the New Testament. They serve in pairs and teach the gospel and try to attract believers to the name of
Jesus Christ. Mormon Missionaries love what they do and love to share the message of God and His
plan and the divine mission of Jesus Christ. Mormon missionaries can be seen throughout the streets
across the world spreading the word and their faith. Companionships are usually either both males or
both females, never one of each. Companionships are established to look out for one another as most
missionaries live far from home (10 Things to Know, 2017).
According to Mormonism 101 (2017), The fundamental principles of our religion are ... concerning
Jesus Christ that He died was buried, and rose again the third day, and ascended into heaven; all other
things which pertain to our religion are only appendages to it. Some other beliefs of the Mormons, are
that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, Christ allows us to be saved from our sins and the original
Church as read in the New Testament has been restored. To further go into detail of these three, the
first is that Jesus

them to give that partially energetic smile was for either mommy or daddy to kiss where they were

simple as a cold to a lifelong ailment like ADHD, the usage of medication can help whether it is
prescribed or over the counter. From the simplicity of an aspirin a day to help prevent a heart attack to
being prescribed morphine to aid in extreme pain cases. When it comes to any illness, medication can

Russell Williams
Psycology
With regards to psychology there are many different theories and perspectives of the human mind
however, I will be focusing on Sigmund Freud s theory of human behavior. Freud believed that human
behaviour is driven by desires and the suppression of the same desires . Concerning the case of Col.
Russell Williams, he was a paraphilic; he stole lingerie and then took photographs of the women he
sexually assaulted. According to Freud s theory of human behavior, Williams did not possess the
ability to control his desires. He started off as a voyeur , but somehow transformed into a perverted
sex offender with a dark fixation for violence. Sigmund Freud compared the mind to an iceberg.

Marie France Comeau. The act he committed was more than just murder; it expressed his inner
desired for violent sexual control over women. Underneath Russell Williams exterior of success and
loyalty lay a dark appetite for power, control and superiority over women that eventually obliterated
the lives of Marie France Comeau and Jessica Lloyd. said Ian MacLeod from the Ottawa Citizen.
From the perspective of a feminist, Williams actions urge for greater awareness and advocacy to stop
the sexualized violence as well as the degradation of women across Canada and the world. It is too
easy to dismiss Williams acts as those of a deranged man and to perceive no need further response. If
anything, the Williams case must call us all to greater awareness and advocacy to end all sexualized
violence and degradation of women. said Alice Schuda.
There are various factors that may have occurred throughout Williams s life that could thoroughly
account for his sexually deviant behaviour. The feeling of male dominance such as his father or a
military superior could have led Russell to express his infuriation and dominance on the opposite sex.
Consequently, his inadmissible behaviour initiates friction between genders; this represents a feminist
theory of female maltreatment. During childhood, Russell Williams may have come across neglect
from a female care giver, which may have had an influence on his bizarre and sexually violent

In Mesopotamia, government was the most important aspect of civilization. The government was the
dominant group of people that had control over others, enforcing the laws and regulations they had
created and deter them from breaking these laws. If the laws were broken, you would be punished in
accordance to what you had done. In Sumerian, the king did not write down the rules as everyone was
expected to know them. Babylon on the other hand, had their laws written down on a stone tablet
which was created by the king of Babylon, Hammurabi. These laws came to be known as The Code of

The idea of Québec separating from Canada isn t as popular as it once was, twenty one years ago. In

Mexico has a poverty rate that s reported to be around 46.2% between 2012 and 2014 translating into
an increase of .07%. During this time, the Mexican Government reported that two million Mexicans
slipped into poverty. The poverty level has risen slightly due to access to education, health, clean
water and income as the basis of the problem.
Statistics show that in Latin America, Mexico is one of the only countries not showing any decreases
in poverty levels. Mexico is struggling with slow economic growth but has large disparities when it
comes to the distribution of wealth. Between 2012 and 2014 the average income earned by Mexicans

$800 US as of 2014. The disparity between top 10% of earners is that they earn 30 times more than
lower earners make Mexico.
Mexico s stagnant wages and declining purchasing power also contribute to the reality of poverty for
many Mexican nationals. Recently the Mexican government raised the daily minimum salary from
73.04 pesos to 80.04 pesos. This increase would equal to about 30 cents in US currency. The Mexican
government reports that the increase is approximately 12.8%.

Jerusalem. She stops to pray at the cathedral of Norwich and a church in Yarmouth. She also passed
through a large town called Zierikzee in the Netherlands where she offends her English companions
by her piety. This happened again when she was visiting Venice for thirteen weeks. If Margery Kempe
s judgment, evaluation, and impulse control were in tact, she would have never offended her
companions and she would have been respectful and appreciative to cross paths with them. However,
her motivation and desire to be given communion was very strong. After a priest at the Hospital of St.
Thomas of Canterbury in Rome speaks against Kempe, ejecting her from the hostel, she didn t give
up. Christ sent St. John the Evangelist to be her confessor and an Italian priest in Ruota believed her
sincerity and gave her communion. Based on her acts of anger in the past, it was a relief that she didn t
give the priest a hard time for not giving her communion. Instead, she relied on God to find another

Theory Analysis And Skill Training
1. Briefly explain the concept of paradigm.
A paradigm is defined as the fundamental way in which we think and define reality. It may include
values and beliefs that influence our decisions on what is real and what is not. It is how we know the
things we know. It is our own awareness of ourselves as observers and knowers and may relate to how
we think and act in certain situations. It is also how we process what is real and how we present our
knowings to others. In a paradigm no right or wrong answers are presented but instead fundamental
assumptions are used.
2.What is the dominant paradigm guiding practice and research in special education? Explain a few
key features of this paradigm.
The dominant paradigm is known as the Newtonian Mechanistic Paradigm and is often referred to as
the machine paradigm. This paradigm views animals and humans as machines. Simplicity is very
important and all complexity is often broken down and translated. Information is arranged logically
and sequentially. The theory includes task analysis and skill training and has a focus on quantity
instead of quality. It also ranks human behavior. This method does not value personal knowledge or
individuality. It does not focus on the process of learning or students motivation for learning.
3. Can you cite any professional examples of mechanistic practice that you ve encountered? (or if you
are currently teaching, you may describe what you do that may exemplify mechanistic practice)

Looking Out For Payroll Check Cashing Near Me Essay
Title: Looking Out for Payroll Check Cashing Near Me Description There are different options that
you can sue when it comes to getting your payroll check cashed at an instant. It seems to be quite
normal for the employers to simply hate the paydays. This is because paydays involve a lot of
computing and counting. Computing the salaries of individual employees and providing the right
amount to each employee might cause a lot of confusion and it is also taxing. This is the main reason
why many employers like to go for payroll checks in place of providing hard money or cash during
the paydays. Employers do not have to take the burden of counting cash with the payroll checks.
However, it is to be noted that payroll checks do provide convenience to the employers but they are a
little challenging for the employees. This goes special for the employees who are under banked or
unbanked. Payroll check cashing gets very difficult for the employees because of limited bank hours,
different requirements and long lines. So, what is the best option for payroll check cashing near me?
Let us have a look below: Check Cashing Stores There are a number of mom and pop stores available
in the locality that can always be considered as the best option of check cashing. However, these
stores can be a little expensive. There are some check cashers who can even impose a certain fee
which is equal to the percentage of check value. There are others who might charge a fee along with

An Unacceptable Route For Real Success And Fulfillment
An Unacceptable Route to Real Success and Fulfillment We live in an era where the name of the
college an individual attended as well as the type of degree received has the ability to land a job seeker
on the door step of prestigious and established organizations while, on the other hand, one s inability
to prove his/her academic prowess by presenting a college degree is often greeted by a closed door

He dispels the assumption that blue collar jobs are for illiterate and unintelligent individuals but rather
that a significant amount of teaching and learning, which may be informal and indirect, also takes
place on blue collar jobs. Rose states that the social and communicative dimension of physical work
provides the medium for much of a blue collar worker s intelligence. Having examined the reasoning
behind Hrabowski and Rose s views in their articles, I affirm that with proper planning, daily
enrichment on mastery of skills, as well as a dedication to one s career goals, an individual s decision
either to attend college or not to attend college will result in a fulfilling and successful career. Indeed,
I agree with Hrabowski s views that, Colleges prepare people for jobs, but more critically, they
prepare people for life (Hrabowski 260). In saying this, Hrabowski believes that attending college has
the ability to equip individuals with the skill needed in the workplace and outside of the workplace,
basically wherever one finds oneself. This may be due to the diverse courses offered by a school
which must be learned before a student is allowed to graduate. I agree that college exposes an
individual to diverse areas of learning and skill and so prepares a graduate for our diverse world. No

Web Analytics Tools And The Intelligent Resource
In many companies, regardless of their size, web analytics has been the answer to numerous questions.
Through its utilization, managers have a grasp of the website, visitors and their behavior so they can
be informed of what s working and what is not. For this reason, Web analytics, to a certain extent, can
drive business results. Along with its increasing popularity, there have been arguments over what
should be the ratio for investment on the tools and the intelligent resource. It goes without saying that
web analytics tools are valuable in gathering data across all the pages in a website and reporting it in
neat graphs. However, tools today are still very limited in their capacity to recommend actions to top
managers. This crucial step ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second, most web analytics tools tend to provide a massive amount of data, but they fail to produce a
meaningful overall picture for managers. Magnificent success comes from the brains behind the
people who can answer business questions and not the tool which can only spew out data. To get
maximum value from data captured, independent of tool, we need to drive success from the brains
behind the people who will provide key insight analysis.
Data is important to any business, but it is of no value to the manager if all the work only involves
collecting and reporting data without the ability to drive business decisions. Web tools like Yahoo web
analytics and Google Analytics are good at answering the what questions, for example, what happened
on this page today? or What was the best marketing channel last year in terms of site revenue? It
cannot be denied that this information is valuable; however, successful business decisions cannot
come from these analytics tools alone. They cannot offer the insights that an analytics expert can by
digging through the maze of data to find meaningful information. In a word, the Web analytics tool is
only useful when it is used by a certified analytics person. However, some companies fall into the trap
of data. They are

United States Postal Service Essay
Mail has been around since the beginning of the United States and was once the number one way to
communicate with others far away. Now in modern days, the United States Postal Service(USPS) is
outdated and considered inferior to other communication tools like email or text messaging. The
people of today fancy the fast and artless rout of communication, but the old fashioned, hand written
letter can be resurrected if vital changes are made to the United States Postal Service (source F). The
USPS should modernize itself to catch up with today s world and remain as a source of jobs and
services to the people of the United States.
The USPS needs to give itself a makeover to make it compatible with the needs and wants of today s
world. Just like how there is nothing as gratifying as holding a physical newspaper provided by the
respectable old New York Times which is still thriving there is nothing like receiving a wonderful
heartfelt letter in the mail, benevolently delivered by the USPS who is striving to stay alive. The
reason that the New York Times can still stand at the top of their world is because they modernized
themselves because they were losing to their online rivals, so they changed by not just offering a
physical product, but an online one as well just as the USPS should do to turn the old pony express
into a sleek, 21st century money maker just like the NYT has done (source A). It is time for the USPS
to augment their services because [getting] money orders,

The Validity of Plutarch Essay
The first century AD gave birth to Plutarch of Chaeronea. He was born into the Greco Roman world
during the Pax Romana, a time of peace that which had not been seen in all of the country s history.
Plutarch, coming from an upper class family, was able to get a good education and find a purpose to
his life1. Philosophy was his calling and he was brilliant in his work. An aficionado of the works of
his forefathers in thought (from Zeno to Plato), Plutarch used their systems to take his knack for
observing the behavior of men and formulating the proper way to live. His essays, On Being Aware of
Moral Progress, On Listening, and How to Distinguish a Flatterer from a Friend, came at a time when

Romans were complaining that Rome itself was becoming `a Greek city4. Greek became an
international language; cultured Romans would make a point to learn it and Greek slaves introduced it
to Roman families5.
Although it may have been an intellectual inspiration, much of Greece was still barren and the
economy was far from perfect. The country suffered from uniform poverty and the collapse of
autonomy6. From the decades of warring came a population on the downfall and a great decline in
merit. Whereas at its summit the Hellenic states could boast handsome temples, theatres, halls, and
palaces ... they found their monies being spent in maintaining wars and in offsetting a growing
unfavorable balance of trade7. The only cities with anything close to prosperous trade at this time
were Corinth and Patras. People were not concerned with anything but survival. Ancient beliefs of
morality and plain old goodness were lost. There was a need for someone, anyone, to turn this awful
trend around. Enter Plutarch.
The year AD 46 brought the new thinker into the world. Greece had experienced almost 250 years of
Roman rule by the time Plutarch was born and was in need of some serious ethical assistance. Plutarch
was born in Chaeronea, in the province of Boeotia which was approximately half the distance between
Athens and Delphi. He was born into an old family that was known to have been holding high public

Criminal Activities of the Roaring Twenties
Criminal activities of the Roaring Twenties The Roaring Twenties were aptly named: they were indeed
roaring with music and dance, but also with gangsters and criminals. The Great Depression having
affected everybody, all were in need of money and ready to do whatever it took to get some. This is
why the Roaring Twenties were a decade of bootlegging, bank robbing, and corruption. The first
important criminal industry of the 1920 s was bootlegging. Bootlegging consisted in illegally
supplying or producing liquor. When the prohibition was enforced during the winter of 1920, its
original goal was to lower crime and corruption, reduce social problems, lower taxes needed to

No club played better in 1919, but few were paid so poorly. Many knowledgeable observers believe
that it was [White Sox president Charles] Comiskey s stinginess that is largely to blame for the Black
Sox scandal: if Comiskey had not grossly underpaid his players and treated them so unfairly, they
would never have agreed to throw the Series (www.chicagohs.org).
Another scandal that took place in those years was the Teapot Dome scandal in 1922, which was when
the Secretary of Interior, Albert B. Fall, leased federal oil reserves to business associates that were
bribing him. After President Harding had transferred supervision of the naval oil reserve lands from
the navy to the Department of the Interior in 1921, Fall secretly granted to Henry F. Sinclair of the
Mammoth Oil Company exclusive rights to the Teapot Dome reserves. He granted similar rights to
Edward L. Doheny. [...] In return for the leases, Fall received large cash gifts and no interest loans
(www.britannica.com).
The Teapot Dome scandal was one of many that took place while Harding was president. It seemed
that quite a number of his allies were exploiting their power and position for personal gain. For
example, Thomas W. Miller, head of the Office of Alien Property, was put on trial, and convicted of
accepting bribes (http://en.wikipedia.org). In addition, Harding s Attorney General Harry M.

Brent Staples On Ethnicity And Gender
Like so many people, Brent Staples was judged based on ethnicity and gender. Brent Staples, an
African American man, has been mistaken for a criminal countless times because of his race. The first
time this happened, he scared a young white women when he turned the corner at night, and she ran
off, convinced that he was a mugger, a rapist, or worse. Brent shares instances of people locking their
car doors or crossing the street when he walked by, but he says he can t blame them, as young black
males are drastically overrepresented among the perpetrators of... violence. He discusses his childhood
in Chester, Pennsylvania where there is gang warfare, street knifings, and murders that many of his
friends and family have gone to prison or been killed over. He mentions two extreme situations in
which he is mistaken for a burglar and tells the story of a journalist mistaken for the killer he was
reporting on. Brent Staples makes it clear that these occurrences are continuous and common, and so
he has had to make changes to accommodate for these terrified white people in public places by, for
example, whistling classic music at night. The point he is trying to make with this article is that
Caucasians have some common misconceptions about African Americans, often assuming they are all
criminals, even though Brent has clearly illustrated himself as one of the good boys.

Forrest has a totally different outlook he sees school as a playground for bullies even though he

With much respect, our freedom is earned by the bravery of many men and woman. The effects of the

  • 2. Hobbes Writings Of Political And Moral Philosophy Hobbes writings of political and moral philosophy remain some of the most influential and important reference points in contemporary affairs. One drive in human nature, fear, is a central theme in his works regarding political thought. His thesis works with ideas that order consists of existing harmoniously through avoidance of both danger and the manipulating fear of civil conflict, which can be achieved through our entire faith in single, unaccountable sovereignty of a person or group. Firstly, Hobbes remains a key political philosopher because of his revolutionary political and moral thought. Although innovative, some view his work as simplistic, assuming his work is a form of reductionism in which basic being consists of primitive incentives or impulses to reach consciously complex ideals. However, despite this view, he engages with an undeniable fact; that human authority requires justification. A justified, adequate sovereign authority should prioritise equality and rights for all people, safeguarding their basic interests. Hobbes may be viewed as a progressive Machiavelli, based on the clear parallel between the attitude of Hobbes and the earlier political thinker, emphasising the unforgiving realities of authority, power and political emancipation. The secular way that Machiavelli viewed politics is reflected in Hobbes work, as he sought to investigate how authority could be persuasive without manipulating influences like religion. His work bases itself in reason ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Issue Of Canadian Fisheries LORRAINE MBUYI ECONOMICS 405 Natural resource economics is greatly concerned with solving a phenomenon referred to as the Tragedy of the Commons , also known as a situation that results in the overuse of open access resources by independent agents, looking to retrieve as many resources as possible without giving regard to other users of the common property. This essay focuses on the issue of Canadian fisheries as a common example of the issue and a topic subject to much academic research. The first step towards determining the effects of the fishing industry is to calculate the amount of fishing capacity per season, based upon anticipated prices, costs, biomass level, and the regulations set by the regulatory agency (Homans Wilen, 1997, p. 3). The government assumes a regulatory stance in light of environmental goals, anticipating an amount of fishing activity, which is acceptable. The combination of the government and the industry should theoretically result in an equilibrium between the companies and the regulatory sector. Their main task is to characterize an equilibrium between the fishing industry and the regulatory infrastructure so that various situations related to fishing are taken into account. The cycle of biomass growth between seasons is dependent on the corresponding harvest, biological growth, environmental effects and the predetermined quota. Ultimately, it is assumed a full steady state can be reached. The goal of quantity regulation is to achieve a steady state of biomass in the long run, given constant industry and regulatory behaviour (Homans Wilen, 1997, p. 9). PRICE REGULATION Using economic incentives to conserve fisheries must occur under a regulatory framework that is enforceable. Price regulation as a result of taxes leaves many ... In 1992 Sam Walton said the company s mission which was to save people money so they can live better. In 1993 walmart celebrated its first one billion sales for a week. In 2000 customers were allowed to shop online. By 2002 wal mart had passed the 500 largest American companies. Walmart has spread to 27 different countries outside the United States. Now Walmart is the nation s largest business in the world. It employs 1.4 million people with 5,239 locations within the United States locations. Walmart has had questionable ethical business practises in there stores. Low wages at Walmart locations have been a problem. A report from the National Employment Law Project states that the low prices at Walmart provided to the customers have a hidden cost to the workers. For Walmart to have it s low prices and to still have a profit they have to pay low wages to the workers. Its low wages have a negative effect to all the 2.2 million workers walmart has. This makes it harder for the workers to buy food, housing and other bills like the water and the light. Wal mart has plumed wages in it s places of supply by hiring people outside the company to provide it s services that traditionally are performed within Wal mart s warehouse. ... • 5. Laboratory Design Dq For this task I am analysing why a good laboratory design is important for efficiency and effectiveness. The main aim of an effective lab design is to create space which reduces the traffic flow and allows the technicians to move around the lab in a suitable way. Good lab designs will also improve the environment in the lab. An effective design allows space for cleaning systems and processes such as ducting. I will have a ducting system coming from the fume hoods, through the cooling system and out of the laboratory. I will include this here because it is the shortest possible way of making an exit for the system. Having a tidy and efficient lab makes the work easier for the staff so they perform their tasks better and get more done therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This makes the staff able to perform more tasks, making the lab and the amount of work more efficient. There will be chemicals used to dilute different solutions in my lab which may perhaps be toxic or hazardous. I have included special facility storage in my lab which ensures safety and protection for the staff. To make the lab more efficient, I have placed rooms in areas in terms of logic so it makes the work easier to do and avoids contaminating anything by trailing samples through the lab. If I was to have a poor design, this would make the lab dangerous as dangerous chemicals could be leaked over other samples and potentially the technicians if they aren t wearing the appropriate clothing. I have also included an open space area in order to allow more tasks to be performed, meaning more tasks get completed and is therefore more efficient. All around my lab I have included fire exits, which further more protects the staff and gives them a sense of comfort knowing that there is a nearby escape route from wherever they are working. I have also added other safety features such as eye wash stations and protective ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Constraints Of Empire Nationalism equals political and economic modernization [which] which really ends up being a perverse trick. This equation serves to mobilize popular forces and galvanize a social movement, but where does the movement lead and what interest does it serve? In most cases it involves a delegated struggle, in which the modernization project also establishes in power the new ruling group that is charged with carrying it out. The revolution is thus offered up, hands and feet bound, to the new bourgeoisie (Hardt 133). In essence, it is often merely the face of power that changes, and not actually the structures that make up and uphold oppression. The new nation created by liberation must still contend with the world orders in which it finds itself, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Appiah largely makes arguments about what is considered right, or the different ways in which cultures should respond to certain practices. Hardt and Negri, on the other hand present an analysis that is, for the most part, amoral. They make observations about habits and trends within the shifting power of political and economic conditions, though their analysis is suffused with disdain for the system as they currently see it. Appiah makes historical observations about cultural interaction, honor, and respect that he then extrapolates to the practices of a modern culture which he considers to be immoral. Hardt and Negri, on the other hand, focus on more post colonial political and economic conditions and seek to determine a pattern of causes and intermingling influences, while decrying an observed system of subtle subjugation and ... • 7. The Goddess Of The Harvest Taylor Textor Coach Kendrick English II April 6, 2016 Powerful Women Do you know who the supreme goddess is? Or the goddess of the harvest? What about the goddess of love? Most goddesses are symbolized by and associated with fertility and marriage but very few with power and war. Later, while Heracles was still an infant, Hera sent two serpents to kill him. His nurse found him with a single snake in each hand squeezed to death. Another time, he was on a quest and she sent amazon s to attack him. In another account, Zeus had tricked Hera into nursing Heracles. When Hera realized who he was, she ripped him off of her breast. Upon his removal, a spurt of her breast milk shot and was smeared across the sky. These attacks continued until some myths state that he saved her. • 8. The Problem Of Illegal Immigration Most people believe that some critical situations can be fixed with small changes like playing cards!. Therefor, people should first know what are the causes then they can suggest solutions to fix the problem or block it. Illegal immigration has been a problem that has plagued the United States for many years. Most people wish to find solutions to help the United States to prevent illegal immigrations. Since the number of illegal immigrants is increasing and there have not been any positive solutions to prevent or reduce this problem, many researchers keep researching for helpful solutions. Although the United States is basically a country of immigrants, that does not necessarily mean they should accept illegal immigrants. Because illegal immigrants have been increasing since 1980, especially from Mexico, the most useful solutions to help the United States government to reduce illegal immigrants are not giving newborns U.S citizenship, forcing border guards to be more active, and stop hiring illegal immigrants. Generally, for a long time the United States has complained about the huge number of illegal immigrants that come from Mexico and have found it difficult to block them. According to Zong and Batalova ,2014 Mexicans have been the largest immigrant group in the United States. As of 2013, approximately 11.6 million Mexican immigrants resided in the United States up from 2.2 million in 1980 and Mexican accounted for 28 percent of 41.3 million foreign born . This ... • 9. The Origin Of The Word Nano 1.1 Introduction Nanotechnology, the term derived from the Greek word nano, meaning dwarf, applies the principles of engineering, electronics, physical and material science, and manufacturing at a molecular or submicron level. The materials at nanoscale could be a device or a system or supramolecular structures. Earlier Albert Franks defined it as that area of science and technology where dimensions and tolerances are in the nano range. Nanomaterials are the most promising tool in nanotechnology that posses very unique size dependent properties that makes them superior and indispensable in many areas of human activity. In recent years, synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles have received considerable attention because of their distinctive properties and potential uses in various fields like microelectronics, photocatalysis, magnetic devices, biotechnology and biomedical fields. Various nanoformulations have already been studied and applied as drug delivery systems with great success and they still have greater potential for many applications like drugs, antibiotics, protein delivery, imaging techniques, anti tumour therapy and as a carrier for Blood Brain Barrier (BBB) crossing (Yezhelyev, 2006; Chen, 2013; Naahidi, 2013). Nanoparticles provide massive advantages regarding drug targeting, controlled release and can be combined with diagnosis and other imaging therapy, hence, emerge as one of the major tools in nanomedicine (Shrivastav, 2013; Jain, 2012). 1.2 ... • 10. Human Rights During The War On Terror Essay INTP 245 Research Essay What role do Human Rights play in the war on terror? How has this affected the foreign policy of the United States of America when combating this war? When looking internationally over the past decade there has been an emergence of vague definable terms that act as holistic guidelines for how international order should be constructed. One of these terms is human rights which acts as a set of overarching guidelines that all States should aim for and achieve. States have incorporated the ideals of human rights into their foreign policies in various ways especially in the area of war and conflict. This essay will focus on what role human rights play in the war on terror and how the human rights discourse has affected the United States of America s (USA) foreign policy on the war on terror. This ultimately illustrates that the Western construct of human rights is an invaluable policy tool as a mandate to interfere in other states affairs and USA have continually utilised it as such a tool. The concept of human rights has become ambiguous, with very little agreement regarding its meaning and application internationally. The concept of human rights could be deemed as what Gallie termed as an essentially contested concept. This argues that when it comes to certain concepts there is just simply no one clearly definable general use that is widely agreed on. There are a variety of elements and words that can be used to describe the concepts of human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I would like to think that I am getting better and better with every opportunity I am given to speak. My presentation three was an overall improvement off of my presentation two. I took skills from my first two presentations and blended them with new acquired skills to strengthen Presentation three. In presentation three, the order I presented my points were; Notable athletes in the pay to play scandal, the pro s of collegiate athletes getting paid, and the con s of collegiate athletes getting paid. I chose to do tell the audience about the notable pay to play athletes first because it gives them a little background information on the topic. Russell Williams Psycology With regards to psychology there are many different theories and perspectives of the human mind however, I will be focusing on Sigmund Freud s theory of human behavior. Freud believed that human behaviour is driven by desires and the suppression of the same desires . Concerning the case of Col. Russell Williams, he was a paraphilic; he stole lingerie and then took photographs of the women he sexually assaulted. According to Freud s theory of human behavior, Williams did not possess the ability to control his desires. Underneath Russell Williams exterior of success and loyalty lay a dark appetite for power, control and superiority over women that eventually obliterated the lives of Marie France Comeau and Jessica Lloyd. said Ian MacLeod from the Ottawa Citizen. From the perspective of a feminist, Williams actions urge for greater awareness and advocacy to stop the sexualized violence as well as the degradation of women across Canada and the world. It is too easy to dismiss Williams acts as those of a deranged man and to perceive no need further response. If anything, the Williams case must call us all to greater awareness and advocacy to end all sexualized violence and degradation of women. said Alice Schuda. There are various factors that may have occurred throughout Williams s life that could thoroughly account for his sexually deviant behaviour. The feeling of male dominance such as his father or a military superior could have led Russell to express his infuriation and dominance on the opposite sex. Consequently, his inadmissible behaviour initiates friction between genders; this represents a feminist theory of female maltreatment. It may include values and beliefs that influence our decisions on what is real and what is not. It is how we know the things we know. It is our own awareness of ourselves as observers and knowers and may relate to how we think and act in certain situations. Along with its increasing popularity, there have been arguments over what should be the ratio for investment on the tools and the intelligent resource. • 29. United States Postal Service Essay Mail has been around since the beginning of the United States and was once the number one way to communicate with others far away. Now in modern days, the United States Postal Service(USPS) is outdated and considered inferior to other communication tools like email or text messaging. The people of today fancy the fast and artless rout of communication, but the old fashioned, hand written letter can be resurrected if vital changes are made to the United States Postal Service (source F). The USPS should modernize itself to catch up with today s world and remain as a source of jobs and services to the people of the United States. The USPS needs to give itself a makeover to make it compatible with the needs and wants of today s world. Just like how there is nothing as gratifying as holding a physical newspaper provided by the respectable old New York Times which is still thriving there is nothing like receiving a wonderful heartfelt letter in the mail, benevolently delivered by the USPS who is striving to stay alive. The reason that the New York Times can still stand at the top of their world is because they modernized themselves because they were losing to their online rivals, so they changed by not just offering a physical product, but an online one as well just as the USPS should do to turn the old pony express into a sleek, 21st century money maker just like the NYT has done (source A). It is time for the USPS to augment their services because [getting] money orders, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From the decades of warring came a population on the downfall and a great decline in merit.
