Essay on Relevancy of the Voting Rights Act in Modern Times
Ratified in 1868, the fourteenth amendment guarantees equal protection of all persons under the
law. In the 1960 s though, African Americans were still being discriminated against because of the
color of their skin. After the broadcast of 600 peaceful African Americans being attacked and beaten
after attempting to cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, President Lynden Johnson
decided it was time to create some legislation to prevent incidences such as this from happening in
the future. The Civil Rights Act of 1964and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 have been hailed as
some of the most far reaching bills on civil rights in modern times (Schmidt et. al. 2010, 98). At that
time in history, they were exactly what the country... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One turning point in the campaign was when African American students gathered in Kelly
Ingram Park to walk across the park. Hoses and dogs were let loose on the crowd, and the media
captured it. After the pictures and news stories were published, many people s opinions on the
campaign swayed. The second event that prompted Kennedy to move forward with the civil
rights act was George Wallace s refusal to integrate the University of Alabama. Then Governor
of Alabama, he stood outside the University, refusing to let two African American students inside
until the National Guard was sent in. Feeling as though something needed to be done, Kennedy
stepped in. The day the Senate passed the Civil Rights Act bill, it was on the front page of the
New York Times. The bill had been passed by a vote 73 to 27, with 46 Democrats and 27
Republicans voting for it, and 21 Democrats and 6 Republicans voting against it. Although it had
not yet passed the House, the chairman and ranking minority member of the House Judiciary
Committee said that they would accept the Senate version of the bill which With the support of
these two men, who were responsible for the House bill, acceptance of the Senate bill in the House
is assured (Kenworthy). The bill did pass the house, and Lyndon B. Johnson signed the bill into law
on July 2, 1964. This bill forbade discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, or
national origin. Some of its provisions are outlawing

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Essay
It is hypothesized that when the subject implements the mindfulness intervention she will
experience less rumination. In other words, by improving the participant s self care routine we will
also improve her SWB.
Mindfulness therapy falls under the umbrella of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is an
evidenced based treatment that was derived as a way to treat individuals who are at risk for
emotional dysregulation on a more long term basis (Craighead, 2016). Mindfulness includes
education about the client s illness, meditation techniques and drawing a connection between
specific thoughts and feelings. This is all done in an effort to teach individuals to more routinely
notice their thoughts and avoid rumination and negative thinking patterns that can lead to feelings
of negative self worth, guilt and excessive self criticism (Williams Kuyken, 2012). According to
research from six randomized controlled trials with a total of 593 participants Mindfulness Based
Cognitive Behavioral therapy was shown to reduce relapses of depression in 44% (Williams
Kuyken, 2012).
Rumination is considered a negative attentional focus on the origin and ramifications of emotions
which lasts for an extended amount of time ( Nolen Hoeksema, 1991). Rumination is often
correlated with symptom of depression and anxiety. Specifically, rumination is operationalized as
repetitive and intrusive thoughts about a previous personal experience. The rumination period can
last anywhere from a day

Congoleum Case
Question 1: Is Congoleum a good LBO candidate? In other words, does this company have a lot of
debt capacity?
To judge if a company is a good LBO candidate the following are very important factors: low
levels of debt in the target, stable cash flows, excess cash on hand, assets that can be used as
collateral to raise debt and no major capital requirements to keep the business running on an on
going basis. Congoleum is an ideal LBO candidate because:
1.Low level of debt estimated long term debt is around 15.6 million
2.High asset base with assets worth 323 million

Question 2: How can you explain the 50% premium paid to the share holders of Congoleum?
The 50% premium can be explained by the valuation of the firm based purely on its projected
future cash flows and assumed growth rate (value = $391.58 million) plus the added value that the
ITS can provide (value = $114.2 million) when the leveraged buyout is completed. There are two

Exploring Pilgrimage Essay
Exploring Pilgrimage
Pilgrimage is a journey to sacred places that are inspired by religious devotion. The place that is
visited is usually where events have happened in the past that are relevant or important to what
the pilgrim believes. Pilgrimage is an ancient custom which has changed over many years. It used
to be a long and dangerous journey, but now many treat it like a holiday. A very early example of a
pilgrim was HsГјan Tsang, a 7th century Chinese Buddhist; he travelled 65,000 km/ 40,000 mi
during his 16 year pilgrimage through India and China. Here is a picture of HsГјan Tsang,

It is said that Mary told Bernadette to find a spring. She did and in 1862 it was declared by the
pope that the underground spring had miraculous healing qualities. Since then Lourdes has become
one of the most popular pilgrimage centres for Christians. There have been numerous claims of
cures of bodily ailments at Lourdes, some of which have been pronounced miraculous by the
ecclesiastical authorities. A medical bureau, the Bureau des Constatations MГ©dicales, examines
people who claim to have been cured. It consists of a permanent president and a panel of other
doctors (of any nationality or religious persuasion) who happen to be in Lourdes and who have
registered their names with the bureau.
Almost three million people visit Lourdes every year. Some reasons why pilgrims go are; for
spiritual discipline. Pilgrimage is an act of prayer and devotion, something undertaken for God.
Many go to increase their faith. They visit the scenes of events that are part of their spiritual life.
Some go to allow those events to become more real to them. As they see the places where these
things happened, they feel they can picture them more clearly. They feel closer to God during
their pilgrimage. Many go just for the simple experience of being a pilgrim. For a day, or for a few
days, they can concentrate on their faith in a happy relaxed way. Lots go for the sense of being

Puritans Influence On Society
Certain Puritan ideals and values strongly impacted the people and places it has spread to and
continues to influence major societies today. Politically, the Puritans introduced the idea of a
representative government which gave a voice to any white male who was a good standing
member of the church. This was considered one of the first steps toward representative democracy
which will later be implemented by the United Statesas a base to the modern day government.
Economically, Puritans believed that the key to economic prosperity would result from piety and
good doings. Socially, the Puritans left a lasting influence on both religion and education. The
Puritan ideals and values therefore strongly influenced New Englands political, economic, and
social development between 1630 and 1660. Multiple Puritan ideals and values had significant
impacts on the political development of the New England colonies. The idea of a representative
government originated from Puritan ideals; They believed that governmental power should be
centered around the people. The early establishment of a representative government in the
MassachusettsBay Colony was due to the fact that it was a charter colony, which therefore allowed
it to be self governing and gave it the fuel to later develop a representative style government. The
idea that the government should be focused around the beliefs of the people continues to influence
generations of future leaders, and can be seen within the Gettysburg

Pros And Cons Of Welding
Welding process Pros/Cons
The list of welding applications can be quite extensive. For the most part it can be broken down in
three main categories. Arc, Oxyfuel, Resistance, and Solid state welding. And the benefits of
automated welding can be in four main categories. Such benefits include, a decrease in scrap costs,
a decrease in labor costs, improvement on the quality of welds, and increased output of production.
Automated welding offers a more precise and clean weld and the welder given that it is a
machine, does not get tired or worn out and make human errors. With a company that purchases
the welder, over time the automated welder pays for itself and can run for hours on end producing
the same quality of weld and the same speed and pace that it is set for.

It is also the most common form of welding and easily learned. The equipment itself can be carried
into a confined space. The cost of shielding gas is also not required since the flux coating offers the
shielding requirements needed to sustain the arc. This process is also commonly used on most
metals and alloys.
Oxyfuel/Acetylene offers such benefits as not electrodes required for the welding process. It can
be done at all angle and used on thicker materials. The sub category abrasive water jet welding uses
no heat for the process.
Resistance Welding has a high production rate and set speed can be placed for production timing.
It can be easily automated for machines and for the most part it can be economical.
Solid State Welding uses extreme pressure to join two parenting metals together. The bond is free
from defects of the microstructure. It also uses no flux material, shielding gas or filler metals.
Although all forms of welding have their advantages, there are still disadvantages. Each one comes
with a certain downfall.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bio Composites
Abstract The Report contains basic details of Bio Composites, its types and uses.
I.INTRODUCTION
Bio composite (bio from Greek alive ) is a composite material formed by a matrix (resin) and a
reinforcement of natural fibers. These kinds of materials often mimic the structure of the living
materials involved in the process keeping the strengthening properties of the matrix that was used,
but always providing biocompatibility. The matrix phase is formed by polymers derived from
renewable and nonrenewable resources. The matrix is important to protect the fibers from
environmental degradation and mechanical damage, to hold the fibers together and to transfer the
loads on it. The commonly used fibers are from crops (cotton, flax or hemp), recycled wood, waste
paper, crop processing byproducts or regenerated cellulose fiber (viscose/rayon).
II.TYPES OF BIO COMPOSITES AND THEIR USES

These may be classified into two categories according to the types of reinforcement used: (i)
particle or short fibers and (ii) continuous fibers. For continuous fiber reinforced bio composites,
woven fabric preforms processed from natural fibers have been introduced as the reinforcements.
Fabrication of laminated composite with four layers of jute woven fabrics has been done. Prior to
their impregnation in the resin matrix, the jute fabrics were treated with alkali in the biaxial tensile
stress state. A significant improvement of the mechanical stiffness was achieved in the composite
with the fibers treated with alkali under applied stress.
The two main drawbacks of presently developed bio composites from its rival glass fiber
composites are: poor moisture resistance and low impact strength. Recent research results show that
there is some large lays either in pre treatment of the fibers, engineering of fibers or in improving
the chemistry while impregnating the fibers with the matrix

What Is Humor In Humor
We often laugh when we see something funny or amusing. In context of informal situation with my

say funny. After searching the synonym of funny in Meriam Webster dictionary, amusing has
caught my attention and it is indeed sounds politer to me. Therefore, I have been using amusing in
formal context when I meet new people as well as my superior. The problem is, it is correct to make

According to Hanks (2012), corpus linguistics is primarily concerned with interpreting observed
language in order to arrive at statements on patterns in word meaning or syntactic composition.
Collocations was first brought up by Palmer (1933) in English language teaching. However, in
1957, Firth introduced collocations to the theoretical linguistics. Collocations are pervasive in texts
of all genres and domains. Collocation can be defined as the grammatical company a word keeps
and the positions it refers (Hoey, 2005).
English is rich in synonyms and it often become a great challenge for EFL (English as Foreign
Language) learners. Church (1994) in his article did a lexical substitutability test in a corpus study
of the near synonyms ask for, request and demand, which results the same finding: the
substitutability of lexical items in the same linguistic context constitutes a good indicator of their
semantic similarity.

The One Of The World s Oldest Instruments
The Didgeridoo is considered to be one of the world s oldest instruments. It is thought to have
originated in Northern Australia and researchers think it may have been in use for 40,000 years.
There are carvings on cave walls that depict the didgeridoo in use from the Kakadu people dating
back about 1,000 years. (The Didjeridu: From Arnhem Land to the Internet) The first
Didgeridoos were made of eucalyptus trees limbs or Bamboo and that were hollowed out by
termites. (McMahon) Aborigine people living in Northern Australia would clean them out using
sticks and cut them to an ideal length. After cleaning the limbs or bamboo out, hot coals are used
to kill any insects. Most didgeridoos range from three to ten feet long. Length usually plays a role
in pitch; if it is longer it has a lower tone and shorter instruments have a higher pitch. Didgeridoos
are usually conical in shape. The Didgeridoois a wind instrument or aerophone. It is called this
because it uses air to vibrate and create sound within an instrument. (Hornbostel and Sachs) The
player blows air into the smaller end or mouthpiece and often times people use beeswax to help
create a seal with the lips and the instrument. Air pushed through the lips help the lips to vibrate
and create the sound. Today modern didgeridoo s can be made from a variety of materials. Some
are made of glass, metal, cactus or almost any material that can be hollowed out into a tube.

small town, caused by one character who was drink driving. This one event has an extreme effect
on a family, who struggle to come to grips with the situation. Tom and Kylie struggle to begin
their new life at their Gran s place in Coghill, after moving there from their home in the small town
of Mumbilli. In Coghill, Tom and Kylie also start at St. Benedict s where they react so differently
to the same scenario. The author J.C. Burke used emotive and descriptive dialogue, first person
narration and symbolism to demonstrate just how differently people can react to the same situation.
Burke uses various techniques such as descriptive and emotive dialogue and first person
narration to portray just how differently Tom and Kylie react to their family s move from
Mumbilli to Coghill. The Brennan family left their home in the dead of night, and moved to
Coghill, to escape the pressure and anger that they faced from the small community in Mumbilli.
After Daniel s accident and sentence, the house was no longer a safe place for the family,
especially for the children Tom and Kylie. Even though the children were faced with grave danger

Pros And Cons Of Brian Mulroney
Martin Brian Mulroney was the 18th Prime Minister of Canada and indeed a leader full of great
qualities (Sawatsky 7). Born in a small town in Quebec, Mulroney was a bilingual Anglophone who
harbored a tremendous political ambition (22). He belonged to the Progressive Conservative party
and came to power in 1984 (Parker 22). Mulroney significantly affected the Canadian history
through his socio political, environmental and economic reforms. He had a powerful, tremendous
and symbolic impact on Canadian history, socio politically by passing the Indian Act, the
Multiculturalism Act and introducing Meech Lake and Charlottetown Accords., environmentally

Program... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, the introduction of Goods and Services Tax by Mulroney built the foundation for
eliminating federal deficit, which occurs when the government spends more money than it makes
(Parker 22). Deficit increased the selling off of the capital assets in Canada to finance the purchases
of slowly diminishing goods and services, which undermined future production and raised
unemployment rates and inflation (Swatsky 309). Not only did the introduction of GST
overcame deficit by a significant amount, it also proved to be an important source of generating
revenues, improving the competitive position of Canada s economy in the world and acting as
an efficient way for managing the country (Good and Bad sides of GST). This could be justified
though the fact that when Mulroney introduced the GST, the revenues grew by one third, and
GDP by 1.2%. Although it was not enough to stop deficit at first, it did slow it down and
eventually hauled it (Coyne). But at the same time, his attempt to stop deficit limited his ability
to deliver the promises he made in terms of services and infrastructures.(Info base Learning).
Secondly, the signing off the Free Trade Agreement with United States and North American
Free Trade Agreement with the addition of Mexico came as a great economic contribution to
Canadian history as it marked the creation of the largest free trade region in the world. With the
elimination of tariff and non tariff barriers, NAFTA opened gates for Canada towards economic
prosperity and growth. With no imposed taxes, NAFTA provided Canada access to the wider
range of Mexican and U.S markets, expanding Canada s productivity and allowed Canada to
attract more U.S investors, firms and companies to Canada, to invest in the wide variety of natural
resources, and. This also led to a huge burst in job opportunities in the trade and service sectors

Pope Admiring Belinda in The Rape of the Lock Essay
Pope Admiring Belinda in The Rape of the Lock
The main character of Pope s The Rape of the Lock could be considered both hailed and damned
by the overseer, but the complexities and sometimes contradictions of Belinda spark a more
unbiased view.
The appearance of Belinda and the world in which she lives is described in a very fantastical and
beautiful way. Even small details such as the arrangement of Belinda s hair are due to wondrous
entities known as the Sylphs, whose sole task is to make sure she is looking her best. This
consideration of appearance in The Rape of the Lock is very important as the society that Belinda
lives within is very judgmental on the basis of appearance, especially for women. Her role

In many couplets he pairs something epic, which starts off the couplet, with a trivial anti climax.
The method of writing within
The Rape of the Lock is mock epic and serves the purpose of criticising the negative themes within
the poem by revealing them to the extreme.
Although Belinda is very superficial she does have an aura that makes her admirable, and Pope
does not look over this. She makes it known that she is quite pure and innocent and with this
innocence it is easier to overlook to the arguably negative traits that she holds. The social rules
within her society mean that she is condoned to act the way she does and through her innocence
she does. She is arguably innocent considering sex and her own sexuality even though she
portrays as beautiful an image as she can. Her physical gifts though could be argued, in her eyes,
to be prettiness and nothing to do with sexuality. Understanding the possibility of her being
innocent, there are also undercurrents that she is not so pure as she would have the other people
within the poem believe. As an example, after the lock is stolen she tells the Baron that he could
have had a more private lock of hair of her own free will. Although all that can be ordained is
assumptions, through the language that Pope uses it is pretty safe to assume that the innuendo in
her speech is intentional.

A Joint Tenant With Rights Of Survivorship
Martin is a joint tenant with a right of survivorship with his friends Peter, John, and Thomas. All of
them have passed away, and Martin has not been back to the property in more than 20 years.
Consequently, Peter indicated in his will that he was leaving his interest in the property to his son
Andrew. Andrew has taken a personal loan out and used his part of the interest in the propertyas
collateral. The lender has initiated a legal action to foreclose on the property. Unfortunately, this
type of property co ownership is known as joint tenancy with rights of survivorship and the
portion of the interest that is now owned by Andrew, in fact, can be attached by creditors.
Andrew s father, Peter, left his share of his interest of the property to him as joint tenancy with
rights of survivorship in an effort to provide him with quick and easy access to the property.
According to Michael L. Johnson, the advantages of placing assets in joint ownership with
rights of survivorship is to avoid the cost of administration upon death of the creator and to
provide quick and simple access to the property by the surviving joint owner upon death of the
creator (Johnson, Winter 1985). However, Andrew has defaulted on the loan and consequently,
the property is in jeopardy of going into foreclosure. From my view point, Martin has two choices
to make regarding the property. He should call the loan company and find out how much is owed
on the loan and pay it back in an effort to keep the

Upward Mobility
Melessa Favreault in her report titled discrimination and upward mobility, aims to determine if
racism upsets upward mobility particularly among African Americans. For this report, Melessa
defines racism as less favorable treatment in an important institution, like the education or criminal
justice system, or market, like a labor, financial, or housing market, solely on the basis of an
ascribed characteristic, like age, race, or gender (1). The report exemplified that in fact, among
African Americanfamilies, downward mobility is more expected than upward mobility, residential
segregation is a threat to upward mobility, and discrimination is present in both labor and housing
markets.

A subject that is more thoroughly touched upon in the textbook. According to the textbook,
segregation often leads to social isolation. This occurs because outsiders such as those belonging
to the middle and upper working classes avoid these neighborhoods. This avoidance leaves these
communities virtually cut off from the larger society and lead to a high occurrence of crime and
unemployment (299). Besides these factors, these segregated neighborhoods have poor quality
schools, limited medical care, and high rates of infant mortality, substance abuse, and violent crime
(299). All factors that diminish chances of upward mobility. That is, a lack of education and high
exposure to crime and substance abuse does not provide much in the way of opportunity. The
report states that Social exclusion remains among the largest problems in our wealthy society, and
one of the most troubling with respect to economic mobility (5). This could be due to a lack of
acknowledgement of the problem. The report also states that, there is a disparity by race in
perceptions of the prevalence of discrimination, with whites less likely than blacks to view
discrimination as a problem (4). As long as there is a victim there is a crime, no matter how much
its prevalence is denied, institutional racism continues to promote unequal opportunity among the
African American population in America.
Based on the information examined in the report, racism does in fact hinder the upward mobility of
African Americans. Racist practices towards blacks in the capitalist housing market strikingly
lessons prospects of upward mobility by promoting racially segregated neighborhoods that offer

Autobiography Of The Vaudeville Era
The Vaudeville Era was an incredibly influential time for American musical theatre. It s existence
gave rise to several performers from classic vaudeville acts to Ziegfeld Follies performers, and
burlesque dancers. From (and contributing to) it s death sprang popular new mediums of
performance and entertainment (Revue, Radio, Talkies, and Burlesque). There is little surprise that
nostalgia for vaudevillebegan closely after its death and continues to influence many forms of
American entertainment today. Gypsy is story about a family vaudeville centered act trying to
make it in a time when vaudeville was dying out. The story contains content about vaudeville
and burlesque as it is a biography of the famous burlesque performer Gypsy Rose Lee. Gypsy
followed Gypsy Rose Lee from vaudeville to burlesque. Burlesque was synonymous with
stripping at this time and is partially credited with killing vaudeville. In the movie Gypsy , the
narrator and mother of Miss Gypsy Rose Lee made a comment about how washed up vaudeville
acts go to burlesque . because the narration was done from the point of view of Gypsy s mother,
the vernacular included early to mid 1900 s slang such as the big time (best vaudeville circuit
/ Orpheum Circuit) and banana oil (a ridiculous or wrong statement). Gypsy features many musical
numbers, many of which are the musical acts performed by Gypsy throughout her life; both in
vaudeville and burlesque. The musical style is on key with vaudeville,

Analysis Of Everything That Rises Must Converge
Heather Chesbro

Who We Are In This New World When reading Everything That Rises Must Converge by
Flannery O Conner, most of us will readily agree that it is a story about a young man and his
mother. Where this agreement usually ends is when we ask if this was O Conner s intended theme.
Whereas some are convinced that the relationship between mother and child is the main theme,
others maintain that O Conner was focusing on these characters adapting to social change during
the Civil Rights era. I agree with the latter, that the central conflict of the story is that of social
change and how both the old and new generations adapt to these changes. Julian s mother is one of
the central characters in O Conner s story that we understand to have seen the most social change
during her lifetime. His mother s family once owned two hundred slaves and their own land, which
they ended up selling post slavery. Their family s wealth diminished, Julian s mother raised him
on her own while living in an apartment building in what was once a good neighborhood,
struggling to put her son through college. When debating whether or not it was frivolous to have
purchased a nice hat, Julian s mother states, With the world in the mess it s in it s a wonder we
enjoy anything. I tell you, the bottom rail is on the top (275). This is a phrase that refers to the
idea of black citizens gaining power in society post segregation, and was originally coined post
slavery. Julian s mother makes her prejudice apparent by implying the rise of black citizens
negatively impacts the quality of living for other members of society. Julian loathes his mother s
outlook on current society, noting that his mother doesn t know her current social standing.
When Julian s mother states, If you know who you are, you can go anywhere (275). Julian
replies harshly, Knowing who you are is good for one generation only. You haven t the foggiest
idea where you stand now or who you are (275). Julian describes his mother s life as struggling to
act like a Chestny without the Chestny goods, clinging to the standards of her old way of life.
Julian describes himself as saintly at times, an educated

Outsourcing damages the American economy by sending jobs...
Outsourcing damages the American economy by sending jobs overseas. Outsourcing can be
defined as the contracting of a business process to a third party . In the USA, outsourcing is
thought of as a bad, dirty word, spoken about in hushed tones and secrecy amongst upper classmen
and businessmoguls. As stated by W. Rivkin, Professor of Business Administration at Harvard
Business School, The off shoring phenomenon has implications for policymakers, business
leaders, and members of the workforce (Hanna, J. How Many U.S. Jobs Are Offshorable? ).
Politicians give people their false assurances and empty promises to stop it, and businesses feel the
need to down play their involvement in it. Phrases like Only Buy American and Jap is Crap ... Show

Setting up and operating a textile factory for example, comes at a fraction of the comparable
cost back in the USA or UK. Also, these businesses simultaneously look to amplify the quantity
and type of products/goods on offer to their consumers, of which, many of them are also offered
by their partners and competitors. In turn, this has tended to gear such businesses to ruthless cost
saving exercises such as redundancies, cutting existing workforce etc. Consequently, traditional
corporate red tape goes out of the proverbial window and things take a turn for the worse as
companies compete to offer the latest and cheapest products to the masses, sparking an almost all
out war amongst them. The result of this is; staffing, health and safety, and regulatory adherence
all find themselves taking a back seat to profit margins, and usually it is to areas of the world
where needs or necessities sadly, almost always get trumped by prudence and vigilance. All this, in
the name of saving a few bucks .
The outsourcing of non core business and services has risen in recent years. The top benefactor of
this rise has been India. Corporations have found a profusion of well trained, English speaking
workers to cram into call centers and customer service jobs. This is even happening in high skill
positions like hospital X rays technicians also. India is seen as the pioneer in outsourcing jobs

Characteristics Of Heroes
Many people consider heroes as someone with superhuman abilities, or as someone who wears a
cape with tights and saves people from the most berserk situations. But as award winning author
Jodi Picoult once said, Heroes didn t leap tall buildings or stop bullets with an outstretched hand;
they didn t wear boots and capes. They bled, they bruised, and their superpowers were as simple as
listening, or loving. Heroeswere ordinary people who knew that even if their own lives were
possibly knotted, they could untangle someone else s. And maybe that one act could lead
someone to rescue you right back. Heroes are often normal people with normal traits; people you
see everyday. But I find that some of these traits do in fact define them as heroes. Heroes are
caring, self sacrificing, and brave.
Heroes all have certain traits, and not all of them are defined as heroic . But one trait I see most
often in a hero is they are caring. Small acts of kindness like accepting the outcasts and the
bullied is something very heroic to me. A somewhat personal experience I have with this has to
do with a friend of mine. He is not super popular or rich or anything, he is just an ordinary guy.
He met this girl a couple years ago. She was pretty poor and didn t have the best home life, and
she wasn t the brightest kid or super good looking, either. Everyone treated her as an outcast and
no one would ever talk to her. But he did not care about how pretty she was, or if she didn t have

The epithelial cell consists of the keratinocyte cell that makes its monolayer. After getting nutrients,
the growth factors of the epithelial cell enables it to grow and separate from the keratinocyte. The
keratinocytes get support from fibroblasts as shown by keratinocyte lines. The keratinoctes depend
on finite life enabled by soluble products highly structured by the fibroblasts. The properties of life
of the epithelial cell demonstrate that it is not an independent type of cell and requires fibroblast
support for its sustainability (McLaughlin Seaquist, 2008). Cell anatomy and physiology
Anatomy can be described as the branch of biology that studies the structures and parts of
organisms. Physiology is the branch of biology that examines the normal functioning and parts of
living things. Regarding the anatomy of the epithelial cell, it is lined in all the surfaces of the body
including the body cavities, intestine, skin, and lungs among other parts.
The physiology of the epithelial cell is that it forms the functional elements of the inner surface and
line of blood, secretory glands, and the lymphatic vessels. It performs different functions including
excretion, absorption, protection, secretion and gas exchange among others. The skin performs the
protection function. The absorption function is through the intestines, secretion through the glands,
gas exchange through the blood and lung vessels and excretion through the kidney.

Panoptical Power in China
Panoptical Power in China
Jeremy Bentham, a leading English prison reformer of the late 18th and early 19th centuries,
developed an architectural plan for an ideal prison that he called the Panopticon. Such a prison
would consist of a ring of individual cells encircling an observation tower. Each of the cells would
open toward the tower and be illuminated by its own outside window. So, by the effect of
backlighting, a single guard in the observation tower could keep watch on many prisoners each of
whom would be individually confined without himself being seen. And because the prisoners could

Despite the film s subsequent international acclaim, Chen Kaige was initially quite reluctant to
take on the project of a film version of the novel. Chen has said: When I read the novel a long
time ago . . . I didn t really like it. I thought it was very superficial. But there was one thing that was
very interesting: a struggle session in the Cultural Revolution (Cheshire, 1992, p. 37).
Consequently, the screenplay involved extensive revisions of the novel and the struggle session
became the climax of the film. This is not surprising, however, as Chen has been quoted as
saying: I ve said this endlessly, but I have to repeat that the Cultural Revolution marked me as
nothing else has or ever will. It still haunts me. I still think so much about how hard it was to

Mozart, Wofgang Amadeus
(1756 1791)
Austrian born, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was regarded to be the greatest child prodigy the
world has ever known. At age four, he heard his older sister playing a harpsichord minuet. Mozart
begged his father to let him try the piece, and by ear, he played the piece perfectly. Throughout his
life, tragedy struck. He was one of the most talented composers ever to walk the face of the earth,
yet he led a life filled with much unhappiness.
Upon traveling to Italy, Mozart fell in love with the Italian opera. One of his most famous peras is

Basso continuo, or figured bass, was purely an instrumental concept. It is music that is played by
one or more bass instruments and a keyboard instrument. Basso continuo gave bass parts an
importance of their own in all areas of ensemble music. It is one of the most distinct features of the
Baroque Era as a whole.
The third movement in the classical sonata was called the menuetto or minuet. It was written in a
moderately fast tempo, played in the tonic key, and was written in three four. The minuet had three
sections: minuet, trio, and a repeat of the minuet. In a sonata with three movements, the minuet was
left out or omitted.
In some of Haydn and in most of Beethoven s works in sonata form, the third movement was called
a scherzo. It utilized the same aspects of the minuet, but was more humorous in nature. Sometimes
the two middle movements were reversed, so that the minuet came second and the slow movement
third. In a three movement composition, the minuet or scherzo was omitted.

The King of Kings
In the Bible, Jesus Christ, the embodiment of the Christian God is described as the King of Kings
. Christians since before the dream of Constantine have believed God and Christ constitute a ruler

Gene Based Evolutionary Theories
This week we learned about and studied gene based evolutionary theories that are associated with
criminal and antisocial behavior. Among the theories was the r/K theory. The r/K theory is used in
evolutionary biology and argues that organisms follow a continuum when reproducing (Smith,
2016, p. 17). This theory consists of r and K selection which are basically opposite of one another.
When environmental opportunities allow, organisms near the r end reproduce rapidly and
productively. However when doing so, not much time is invested in their offspring (Cullen,
Agnew, Wilcox, 2014, p. 71). All of the following are components of r selection: mating is

Importance Of Cerebral Circulation
Cerebral Circulation
A constant flow of blood to the brain is vital to its proper functioning. Blood supplies the brain
with oxygen and to perform maximally the brain requires about 25% of the body s oxygen (Webb,
2016). Lack of oxygen for a prolonged period results in cell death causing irreversible damage to
the brain. Two paired arteries, four total, supply the vital source of blood to the brain and spinal
cord.
Arterial Structures
Blood supply to the brain is divided between the internal carotid arteries (ICA) and the vertebral
arteries. As stated in Cippola s text, the right and left ICA from the bifurcations of the common
carotid arteries and the ICA itself also split in the anterior and middle cerebral arteries. Its primary
function is to supply blood to the cerebrum. The vertebral arteries originate from the subclavian
artery and then join distally to form the basilar artery , (Cipolla, 2009). The basilar artery later
bifurcates into two posterior cerebral arteries , these arteries supply the inferolateral surface of
the temporal lobe and the lateral and medial surfaces of the occipital lobe, (Webb, 2016). While
the ICA mainly provides blood to the cerebrum, the vertebral arteries are the primary supply to
brain stem and cerebellum. The ICA and the vertebral arteries join together to form what is known
as the Circle of Willis.
Circle of Willis
The Circle of Willis is also known as the circulus arteriosus. It is a structure that is formed by the
joining of the two

Analyze the pros and cons of federalism, unitary and confederal systems. Explain to me whether
you believe that we should keep our federal system or whether we should abandon it in favor of a
different one.
Before discussing the pros and cons of different governmental systems, let s know about the federal,
unitary, and confederal systems? There are three systems of governmentexist today: federal, unitary,
and confederal. Federal system is a medium centralized, Unitary system is highly centralized, and
confederal system has a low level centralization. Furthermore, federal system believes in the strong
national government which shares power with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The biggest advantage of federal system is check and balances a political system where each
branch of government have authority to keep checks on other branches and to influence the
decisions of other branches; the political power is not concentrated in the hands of individuals or
groups. Now, let s see the cons of the federal system. Cons of the federal system are: prevention of
the creation of a national policy, lack of accountability, and potential for corruption. Federalismalso
causes confusion between the local governments and the national government as well.
(Federalism Pros and Cons List, 2015) For an example, the United State doesn t have a single
policy on issues, which often leads to the confusion. Also, power of authority can create a possible
atmosphere for corruption at local and national level. For an example, if majority of the congress
wants to pass a law on something and local states do not agree on it, then the local government can
agree on the law to get something in return in form of money or favors!
Second, advantages of unitary system are simplicity, less corruption, simplified economic policies,
and high level of national pride. Unitary government is simple. Fewer people are involved in the
decision making process so that decisions are made faster and more efficiently. (apecsecadmin,
2015) In a unitary system, only few self motivated people have direct access to the decision makers,

Mexico City Policy Current Event
Mexico City Policy Current Event The Mexico City Policy, also known by opponents as The
Global Gag Rule , was originally introduced as an executive order by president Ronald Reagan in
1984. The policy was made to withhold U.S. family planning, funding and assistance from foreign
NGOs (non profits) that include reproductive health organizations and included private hospitals
and clinics that perform or publicize abortions. In countries where abortionis permitted, the policy
prohibits health workers at NGOs that receive U.S. funding from offering abortion as an option or
referring women to a provider (PAI). The Mexico City Policyhad exceptions for those who had
abortions done in response to rape, incest, or life threatening conditions. When active, this policy
could erase any progress made by the women that lack access to today s modern contraceptives.
The global gag rule forces organizations to prioritize which communities they want to serve:
women seeking abortions or all other women, children and families (Jones, 2004). This policy was
then revoked by President Obama in 2009. Currently, supporters are making sure that in the future
presidents, like Trump, can t rescind the policy without Congress. It was originally thought to be a
way to control the world s growing population by saying abortion is the same thing as family
planning. This is not true. The organization Pathfinder International, who is a global leader in

The Mysterious Great Sphinx of Giza Essay
I Thought There Would Be Answers: The Mysterious Great Sphinx of Giza
At the request of Napoleon Bonaparte in the early 1800 s Dominique Vivant Baron Denon French
artist and diplomat was to record the exploits and accomplishments of Bonaparte s Egyptian
campaign. In 1802, he published his travels. The perfection given by the Egyptians to the
representations of their animals proves that they were not without an idea of that bold style which
expresses much character in a few lines, and their execution tended to the grave, and to ideal
perfection, as we have already remarked in instance of the Sphinx. The generally accepted date of
the great Sphinx of Giza is 2500BC attributed to Pharaoh Khafre of the fourth dynasty. If this is the

The Sphinx represents the guardian of the Giza plateau. Revered in Ancient Egypt the feline form
has a long association with royalty, power and protection. An evacuation lead by French
archaeologist Dr. Alain Zivie believed inscriptions suggest Egyptians bred lions as well as buried
them in sacred cemeteries. In 2001, Zive and his crew found a mummified lion in the tomb of a
woman understood to be the wet nurse of Pharaoh Tutankhamen dated to 1430. The wear of the
lion s teeth indicate it lived to old age and was in captivity.
One theorist, Robert Temple, declares the Sphinx is not a lion at all, because of the flat back,
lack of mane, and the disproportion of the head. He believes the original statue was craved
before the old kingdom and portrayed the Egyptian god Anubis, with a head of a jackal and
body of a man (see figure 1). Anubis is traditionally associated with mummification and the
afterlife. Temple believes that between 2200 2000BC, the monument was defaced then re carved
during the fourth dynasty in the image of Pharaoh Khafre. He also presumes the Sphinx
enclosure was flooded with Nile water to make an island. He uses a passage from Herodotus that
discusses the cruelty of Pharaoh Khufu and how the slaves had to dig the moat for his burial
chamber For this they said, the ten years were spent, and for the underground he caused to be made
as sepulchral chambers for himself in an island, having

Negative Effects On Animal Pollution
has an extremely negative impact on many animals. Water polluted with different chemicals can
cause a decline of population in some species; On the other hand water polluted with nutrients can
lead to huge growth of toxic algae which when eaten by other animals may cause serious diseases
and death to these animals. Persistent organic pollutants contains the growth of fish and wipe out
their breed. Chemical runoff from farms run into oceans, seas, lakes and rivers. Littering can also
lead to death of many animals because of toxic substances in trash, such as oil, plastic, detergents
and pesticides (How PollutionAffect Animals). Oil spills affect marine animals and sea birds.
The oil makes the water harder to swim through, making the animals exhausted, and also making
it harder for it to breathe (Levete 12). Oil spills damages the growth of sea birds (Effects of
Pollution on People...). Animals can also die by getting themselves entangled in one of the many
litter items dumped in the water. Plastic waste can cause dangers to animals. Around one hundred
million tons of plastic is produced each year, ten percent ends up in the sea. A million sea birds
and mammals are killed each year by plastic waste (5 Ways Water Pollution is Killing Animals).
Plastic bags are killing the animals in the water. The bags can suffocate or choke the animal, by
getting caught around it s body (Levete 12). Noise pollutionis also becoming a huge problem for
many animals, especially ones that live in

The Library Field At A Young Age
Introduction I became interested in the library field at a young age. Through school library
programs and trips to the public library with my family I developed an appreciation for the library
as a place and for the talented men and women who staffed the library. This appreciation continued
through my time at Southern Connecticut State University, where I earned my BS in information
and libraryscience in the winter of 2011. It was in through the university s library, Hilton C. Buley
library, that I revived my first professional experience in the field of library science. I worked for
three years at Buley as a student worker in the access services department. During these three
years I felt an immense sense of fulfillment in my work which propelled me to further my
education in the field and enroll at San Jose State University. After graduating from Southern
Connecticut State University, I worked for a brief time at West Haven Public Library in West
Haven, Connecticut as a part time library assistant. I found the transformation from an academic
library to public library broadened my thoughts and opinions concerning library policies and
patron interaction. Nonetheless, I found work at public libraries just as fulfilling as my work at
Buley. In the fall of 2012 I was offered a full time position at Hilton C. Buley library as a library
technical assistant and evening supervisor for access services. Due to limited funding and budget
cuts my position has been revised within

The Crucifixion Of Jesus
Steven Carbucia
November 8, 2015
1800 Century Art of Jesus
This picture of Jesus was created in 1782 and is located in the Church of St. Vincent, Mason. The
artist was David, Jacques Louis. This picture shows Jesus on the Cross, saving us from sin. This
picture can show Jesus as either divine or human because as we see, Jesus is looking up towards the
heavens, praying to God so he can forgive us. The picture, however, is definitely showing the
Crucifixion/Death of Jesus, which is pretty human. My feelings/attitude towards this painting is
that it is a good way to show Jesus Crucifixion. We see Jesus nailed to the cross, praying, and we
also see that he is thin. This shows how Jesus didn t have much to eat and relied on others to feed
him, just like the poor. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The painting was made around 1745 1750 by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo. The painting was made
in Venice, Veneto, Italy and it is on view in Gallery 204. Unlike the last picture, this picture of
Jesus on the cross shows us the other two people Crucified with Jesus, two thieves. One of the
thieves was saved because he talked to the other man of how they are thieves and that unlike them
Jesus has done nothing wrong. Also, unlike the other painting, this one shows us the people
gathered around Jesus praying and weeping. My feelings/attitude of this painting is no different of
the last. However, I see this one as being more in depth, colorful, and lively than the other one.
This one shows all sorts of people in robes, mountains, and even horse (and maybe a guard on the

Two Forms of Intelligence Collection Essay
Introduction
This essay examines two forms of intelligence collection, namely signals intelligence (SIGINT) and
open source intelligence (OSINT), with a view to determining whether the collection methods can
be ranked in terms of importance. To this end, this essay will describe SIGINT and OSINT, with a
focus on outlining the relative advantages and disadvantages of each method. It will be shown that
any attempt to rank collection methods in terms of their importance is only productive insofar as it
is necessary to effectively direct the most suitable collection method against an intelligence target.
Moreover, it will be argued that OSINT has a uniquely significant, although not more important role,
in serving as a foundation upon which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Regional Differences Between The Northern And Southern...
1.The first important difference between the northern and southern colonies were the motives
people had in choosing where to settle. The northern colonies primarily consisted of people who
were looking for religious freedom. It was also comprised of men who were well versed in law and
government. A common purpose unified the colonists in the north and helped to create tight knit
communities. As a result, the northern states thrived. There was a dramatic increase in population
and a longer life span. Economic gain is what drove settlers south. These colonies were mostly
comprised of young men with little to no claim in English society. Large plantations replaced tight
knit communities. A lack of purpose in religious and social objectives stunted the growth of the
southern colonies. By the mid to late 1700 s the southern states began to stabilize and population
began to increase. 2.The second difference between the northern and southern colonies were the
regional differences between the people. Religion dominated the northern colonies. It governed the
culture as well as the daily choices people made. In the north education and literacy were important
and as a result there were opportunities to go to school and be educated. In the north, most of men
were intellects and many were university educated... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Economy is the third difference. The northern states depended on manufacturing and trade to fuel
their economy. The growing season was much shorter than that of the south. As a result,
northerners looked to other ways of making money. Many became artisans and tradesmen. The
shorter farming seasons also reduced the need for slave labor in the north. In contrast, the south
relied primarily on agriculture. While land owners learned what crops to grow the economy in the
south continued to be unstable. By the early 1700 s plantation owners began growing various
kinds of crops instead of relying solely on tobacco. This helped to stabilize and grow the southern

As we have learned in class this semester, there are a multitude of topics that, together, comprise
the field of Health Economics. Everything from basic supply and demand to insurance policy to
the metric of Quality Adjusted Life Years has found its way into the lesson plan at some point.
One of, if not the, biggest institutions that drives the field of healthcare economics (and healthcare
in general) is the hospital. Surgeries, x rays, emergency room visits, magnetic reasoning image

structure is key in any business, but it plays an especially large role at hospitals, where the stakes

Using a probit statistical model, she analyzed American Hospital Association data and surveys from
1988 2000 whether hospital ownership was correlated with the offering of thirty different types of
medical services. One interesting result that Horwitz discovered was that for profit hospitals are
more likely than nonprofits to offer open heart surgery, due to its relatively profitable nature
compared to other types of medical services, while not for profit hospitals are more likely to offer
hospital based psychiatric treatment than for profit hospitals due to it s relatively unprofitable
nature (Horwitz).
Horwitz s overall conclusion is that for profit hospitals are more likely to pick and choose what
types of services they offer, which makes sense given that they need to satisfy their shareholders
who have invested monetary capital in the hospital s performance. I found it quite interesting that
psychiatric care was classified as relatively unprofitable by Horwitz, but her reasoning stating that
psychiatric care reimbursement is uncertain and often low relative to cost was very sound and
helped me understand why that is the case (Horwitz).

Rbi Importance of Being at Appointed Place of Duty
RBI: The importance of being at an appointed location on time In the Army, it is common
knowledge that every Service Member has to be at a certain location, in the proper attire at least
ten minutes prior to the stated time put out by their Team leader, Squad leader, Platoon sergeant,
or First Sergeant. When a Soldier fails to make it to that appointed place in the allotted time, their
short coming contributes to a mission failure and could show early signs of potential lack of
career advancement as well as a general regard of contempt toward not just the squad or platoon,
but the unit itself. Soldiers who fail to make it to the location that they must be at in the time given

to make our final inspections on each other s gear and complete the checklist of everything we
were missing so as to pick up along the way. Once all that was done and we made it to the forest,
we had to make four trips up and down the mountain because of the amount of gear we had, not
to mention trying to find a suitable location to set up our base camp. When all was said and
done, we had a nice roaring fire to keep us warm during the night, and a beautiful full moon to
guide us in the darkness. The following day we had decided to go out and explore the whole
area around us, so we would explore all the trails in a 4 mile radius around our camp, go
swimming in the river we discovered, and make notes on endanger birds we found as well as
towers that had been built in the times of Christopher Columbus visit to Puerto Rico. We also
explored some caves and caverns, learned about how they were created, noting the limestone

and a crab to our surprise. In the end, none of this would have been possible without the proper

The Story Of The Brothers
Once there was a nest(not a leaf filled nest or a damp nasty nest that you would find on a street
corner) it was a neat and cosy home. This is where the Raven brothers and their mother resided.
The brothers were Edgar the oldest and smartest, Allen the laziest of the bunch, and Poe who
liked to play with sticks and twigs. Their mother was a strict woman who did not approve of
disobedience, but loved her children all the same. That is where our story starts. One day the
brothers find their mother is sick with BirdFlu (a disease that kills birds and humans). The brother
stayed with her until she died a year later. Her last dying words were be safe and stay way from
Shanks the 900th. The brothers began to spiral into depression and spent most of their days
sleeping and all around not doing anything. The brothers moped around for a couple of years but
the nest became unkempt and dilapidated. The kitchen was full of moldy bread, a filthy sink,
and a hot icebox. The family room had half eaten bird seed, stained chairs and benches, and a
moth eaten pillows. Their bedrooms had broken down nest beds, unorganized closets and
drawers, and unclean clothes on the floor. On a especially miserable day Edgar was fed up with
himself with all the moping around a getting behind on the bills, so he called his brothers to talk
about a solution to their problems. They were not to happy about this but they came all the same.
Edgar proposed a idea that they should get houses and they should not

Reflection Paper On Domestic Violence
On Monday, December 25, 2017, at approximately 1308 hours, I responded to 1032 Worthington
Spring Drive, Melbourne, Brevard County, Florida 32940 in reference to a disturbance. Upon
arrival, I made contact with four family members who advised they reside at the location. I
separated each subject and conducted interviews regarding the domestic violence statements made
to dispatch.
The first two subjects I interviewed was the two witnesses, Ms. Denise Iverson (Witness 1) and
Ms. Julie Hart (Witness 2). According to Ms. Iverson, her grandson, Mr. Elijah Morris (Arrestee),
has been suffering from depression lately. Earlier today (December 25, 2017), Mr. Elijah Morris
starting drinking alcohol and it caused issues with his depression. After becoming intoxicated, Mr.
Elijah Morris went into his brother s (other grandson) bedroom and started an argument with his
brother, Mr. Riley Morris (Victim). When the argument started, she approached the bedroom and
observed Mr. Elijah Morris committed battery by grabbing Mr. Riley Morris in the area of his
neck. Ms. Iverson advised it appeared Mr. Elijah Morris attempted to choke Mr. Riley Morris,
but was unable to do so during the physical altercation. When the physical altercation started, Ms.
Iverson called the sheriff s office for assistance. The two brothers were separated and Mr. Elijah
Morris attempted to leave the residence. Ms. Iverson also advised Mr. Elijah Morris had two
pocket knives in his possession (in hand). According to

Diaspora By James Clifford Summary
In the article Diasporas , historian and anthropologist James Clifford explores the issues that can
arise when trying to concretely define diaspora, a traveling term, in changing global conditions .
Clifford explains, the concept of diaspora was used in the study of Jewish and later Greek and
Armenian displaced groups. However, since the 1950s it has been commonly evoked in reference
to African forced migration and is now used to describe a variety of peoples and relocation
experiences. In addition to diaspora, other terms are also being used quite heavily in discussions of
the movement of people, including border , and Clifford explores the differences and similarities
between people living in a state of border versus a state of diaspora while both suggest
connections and multilocalities of people borders implies a politically and geographically defined
line, where as a diaspora connotates a further distance of separation, and possibly a sense of exile.
Clifford discuses these connections and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He especially focuses on the juxtaposition of diaspora against concepts of the nation state and on
the flip side, against ideas of indigenous people. He feels that the term diaspora is a signifier, not
simply of transnationality and movement, but of political struggles to define the local, as
distinctive community, in historical contexts of displacement . His examination of the use of
diasporic language in the context of tribal and indigenous people is especially interesting, since
as he is clear to point out, tribal cultures are not diasporas; their sense of rootedness in the land is
precisely what diasporic peoples have lost , however when the discussion is about indigenous
peoples who have been displaced, which is often the case, much of this language and framework
used to discuss diasporas is readily

One result of the Islamic Revolution of 1979 was that women were forced by law to wear the
compulsory hijab. At first, not many people took this seriously and many peaceful protests were

submit. In this novel, Marjane is an Iranian girlliving during the turmoil of the Islamic Revolution
and eventually the IranIraq War. She is invested in the politics of her world even from a very

Since she must imagine them herself, her perception of the world around her can often be
proven wrong. She has to learn this through her own experience rather than reading it in a book.
Though she is not specifically rebelling against anything, it was unusual for a girl her age to be
so invested in the political scene of the country. Many of her friends were aware of what was
going on, but Marjane had a much deeper dedication to learning everything she possibly could
about the turmoil. She often expressed interest in wanting to join her parents at demonstrations
around the city to protest the rule of the Shah. Marjane was not allowed, of course, but this
desire to be a part of a change was indicative of her rebellious nature and political activism later in
her life. During the awkward period between young child and teenager, Marjane explores new
concepts like forgiveness and loss that begin to shape her viewpoint. She copes with people of
opposing viewpoints and the death of her beloved uncle, Anoosh. As she grows, she becomes
more and more reckless. One time she cuts class with some of her older friends and her mother
gets very upset with her. In return, Marjane doesn t understand her mother s reaction and gets mad

Taking a Look at Types of Lodging
These past few years, the lodging industry has been growing very significantly. The global
hospitality sector witnessed a strong appetite for growth in 2013, a trend that is set to continue
and pick up pace in 2014 (Strong Performance Predicted for Global Lodging Industry in 2014,
2014). A decade before, there were no many options of the lodgingaccommodation. But with the
massive growth of hospitality industry, lodging accommodations are now varied. Full serviced
hotels, hostels or dormitories and Bed Breakfast are some of the examples.
First, the most popular lodging accommodation is hotel. Hotel can be defined as a structure that
provides sleeping accommodation to travelers and that usually features dining facilities and daily
housekeeping service (Akram, 2009). There are various kinds of hotel that can be distinguished by
its style, function, or location. For example, the trends that are getting popular nowadays are
boutique hotels. Boutique hotels are typically furnished in a themed, stylish and/or aspirational
manner (jonckie, 2011). While there are also business hotels which are targeted at the needs of
business travelers and tend to be located in city centres and at airports. Guestrooms are equipped
with spacious desks, and Internet connection (Akram, 2009). People choose hotels rather than other
budget accommodation because they are looking for nice facilities and services.
Another popular alternative is hostel. A hostel is a budget oriented,

  • 2. Essay on Relevancy of the Voting Rights Act in Modern Times Ratified in 1868, the fourteenth amendment guarantees equal protection of all persons under the law. In the 1960 s though, African Americans were still being discriminated against because of the color of their skin. After the broadcast of 600 peaceful African Americans being attacked and beaten after attempting to cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, President Lynden Johnson decided it was time to create some legislation to prevent incidences such as this from happening in the future. The Civil Rights Act of 1964and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 have been hailed as some of the most far reaching bills on civil rights in modern times (Schmidt et. al. 2010, 98). At that time in history, they were exactly what the country... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One turning point in the campaign was when African American students gathered in Kelly Ingram Park to walk across the park. Hoses and dogs were let loose on the crowd, and the media captured it. After the pictures and news stories were published, many people s opinions on the campaign swayed. The second event that prompted Kennedy to move forward with the civil rights act was George Wallace s refusal to integrate the University of Alabama. Then Governor of Alabama, he stood outside the University, refusing to let two African American students inside until the National Guard was sent in. Feeling as though something needed to be done, Kennedy stepped in. The day the Senate passed the Civil Rights Act bill, it was on the front page of the New York Times. The bill had been passed by a vote 73 to 27, with 46 Democrats and 27 Republicans voting for it, and 21 Democrats and 6 Republicans voting against it. Although it had not yet passed the House, the chairman and ranking minority member of the House Judiciary Committee said that they would accept the Senate version of the bill which With the support of these two men, who were responsible for the House bill, acceptance of the Senate bill in the House is assured (Kenworthy). The bill did pass the house, and Lyndon B. Johnson signed the bill into law on July 2, 1964. This bill forbade discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, or national origin. • 3. Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Essay It is hypothesized that when the subject implements the mindfulness intervention she will experience less rumination. In other words, by improving the participant s self care routine we will also improve her SWB. Mindfulness therapy falls under the umbrella of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is an evidenced based treatment that was derived as a way to treat individuals who are at risk for emotional dysregulation on a more long term basis (Craighead, 2016). Mindfulness includes education about the client s illness, meditation techniques and drawing a connection between specific thoughts and feelings. This is all done in an effort to teach individuals to more routinely notice their thoughts and avoid rumination and negative thinking patterns that can lead to feelings of negative self worth, guilt and excessive self criticism (Williams Kuyken, 2012). According to research from six randomized controlled trials with a total of 593 participants Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioral therapy was shown to reduce relapses of depression in 44% (Williams Kuyken, 2012). Rumination is considered a negative attentional focus on the origin and ramifications of emotions which lasts for an extended amount of time ( Nolen Hoeksema, 1991). Rumination is often correlated with symptom of depression and anxiety. Specifically, rumination is operationalized as repetitive and intrusive thoughts about a previous personal experience. • 6. Puritans Influence On Society Certain Puritan ideals and values strongly impacted the people and places it has spread to and continues to influence major societies today. Politically, the Puritans introduced the idea of a representative government which gave a voice to any white male who was a good standing member of the church. This was considered one of the first steps toward representative democracy which will later be implemented by the United Statesas a base to the modern day government. Economically, Puritans believed that the key to economic prosperity would result from piety and good doings. Socially, the Puritans left a lasting influence on both religion and education. Fabrication of laminated composite with four layers of jute woven fabrics has been done. Prior to their impregnation in the resin matrix, the jute fabrics were treated with alkali in the biaxial tensile stress state. A significant improvement of the mechanical stiffness was achieved in the composite with the fibers treated with alkali under applied stress. The two main drawbacks of presently developed bio composites from its rival glass fiber composites are: poor moisture resistance and low impact strength. It is thought to have originated in Northern Australia and researchers think it may have been in use for 40,000 years. There are carvings on cave walls that depict the didgeridoo in use from the Kakadu people dating back about 1,000 years. (The Didjeridu: From Arnhem Land to the Internet) The first Didgeridoos were made of eucalyptus trees limbs or Bamboo and that were hollowed out by termites. (McMahon) Aborigine people living in Northern Australia would clean them out using sticks and cut them to an ideal length. After cleaning the limbs or bamboo out, hot coals are used to kill any insects. Most didgeridoos range from three to ten feet long. Length usually plays a role in pitch; if it is longer it has a lower tone and shorter instruments have a higher pitch. Didgeridoos are usually conical in shape. The Didgeridoois a wind instrument or aerophone. It is called this because it uses air to vibrate and create sound within an instrument. (Hornbostel and Sachs) The player blows air into the smaller end or mouthpiece and often times people use beeswax to help create a seal with the lips and the instrument. Air pushed through the lips help the lips to vibrate and create the sound. Today modern didgeridoo s can be made from a variety of materials. Some are made of glass, metal, cactus or almost any material that can be hollowed out into a tube. Because of the irregular shape of the natural instrument ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Burke uses various techniques such as descriptive and emotive dialogue and first person narration to portray just how differently Tom and Kylie react to their family s move from Mumbilli to Coghill. The Brennan family left their home in the dead of night, and moved to Coghill, to escape the pressure and anger that they faced from the small community in Mumbilli. After Daniel s accident and sentence, the house was no longer a safe place for the family, especially for the children Tom and Kylie. Born in a small town in Quebec, Mulroney was a bilingual Anglophone who harbored a tremendous political ambition (22). He belonged to the Progressive Conservative party and came to power in 1984 (Parker 22). Mulroney significantly affected the Canadian history through his socio political, environmental and economic reforms. First of all, the introduction of Goods and Services Tax by Mulroney built the foundation for eliminating federal deficit, which occurs when the government spends more money than it makes (Parker 22). Deficit increased the selling off of the capital assets in Canada to finance the purchases of slowly diminishing goods and services, which undermined future production and raised unemployment rates and inflation (Swatsky 309). Not only did the introduction of GST overcame deficit by a significant amount, it also proved to be an important source of generating revenues, improving the competitive position of Canada s economy in the world and acting as an efficient way for managing the country (Good and Bad sides of GST). This could be justified though the fact that when Mulroney introduced the GST, the revenues grew by one third, and GDP by 1.2%. Although it was not enough to stop deficit at first, it did slow it down and eventually hauled it (Coyne). But at the same time, his attempt to stop deficit limited his ability to deliver the promises he made in terms of services and infrastructures.(Info base Learning). Secondly, the signing off the Free Trade Agreement with United States and North American Free Trade Agreement with the addition of Mexico came as a great economic contribution to Canadian history as it marked the creation of the largest free trade region in the world. With the elimination of tariff and non tariff barriers, NAFTA opened gates for Canada towards economic prosperity and growth. With no imposed taxes, NAFTA provided Canada access to the wider range of Mexican and U.S markets, expanding Canada s productivity and allowed Canada to attract more U.S investors, firms and companies to Canada, to invest in the wide variety of natural resources, and. Pope Admiring Belinda in The Rape of the Lock Essay Pope Admiring Belinda in The Rape of the Lock The main character of Pope s The Rape of the Lock could be considered both hailed and damned by the overseer, but the complexities and sometimes contradictions of Belinda spark a more unbiased view. The appearance of Belinda and the world in which she lives is described in a very fantastical and beautiful way. Even small details such as the arrangement of Belinda s hair are due to wondrous entities known as the Sylphs, whose sole task is to make sure she is looking her best. This consideration of appearance in The Rape of the Lock is very important as the society that Belinda lives within is very judgmental on the basis of appearance, especially for women. The method of writing within The Rape of the Lock is mock epic and serves the purpose of criticising the negative themes within the poem by revealing them to the extreme. Although Belinda is very superficial she does have an aura that makes her admirable, and Pope does not look over this. She makes it known that she is quite pure and innocent and with this innocence it is easier to overlook to the arguably negative traits that she holds. The social rules within her society mean that she is condoned to act the way she does and through her innocence she does. She is arguably innocent considering sex and her own sexuality even though she portrays as beautiful an image as she can. Her physical gifts though could be argued, in her eyes, to be prettiness and nothing to do with sexuality. Understanding the possibility of her being innocent, there are also undercurrents that she is not so pure as she would have the other people within the poem believe. As an example, after the lock is stolen she tells the Baron that he could have had a more private lock of hair of her own free will. Although all that can be ordained is assumptions, through the language that Pope uses it is pretty safe to assume that the innuendo in her speech is intentional. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All of them have passed away, and Martin has not been back to the property in more than 20 years. Consequently, Peter indicated in his will that he was leaving his interest in the property to his son Andrew. Andrew has taken a personal loan out and used his part of the interest in the propertyas collateral. The lender has initiated a legal action to foreclose on the property. Unfortunately, this type of property co ownership is known as joint tenancy with rights of survivorship and the portion of the interest that is now owned by Andrew, in fact, can be attached by creditors. Andrew s father, Peter, left his share of his interest of the property to him as joint tenancy with rights of survivorship in an effort to provide him with quick and easy access to the property. According to Michael L. Johnson, the advantages of placing assets in joint ownership with rights of survivorship is to avoid the cost of administration upon death of the creator and to provide quick and simple access to the property by the surviving joint owner upon death of the creator (Johnson, Winter 1985). However, Andrew has defaulted on the loan and consequently, the property is in jeopardy of going into foreclosure. From my view point, Martin has two choices to make regarding the property. This avoidance leaves these communities virtually cut off from the larger society and lead to a high occurrence of crime and unemployment (299). Besides these factors, these segregated neighborhoods have poor quality schools, limited medical care, and high rates of infant mortality, substance abuse, and violent crime (299). All factors that diminish chances of upward mobility. That is, a lack of education and high exposure to crime and substance abuse does not provide much in the way of opportunity. It s existence gave rise to several performers from classic vaudeville acts to Ziegfeld Follies performers, and burlesque dancers. From (and contributing to) it s death sprang popular new mediums of performance and entertainment (Revue, Radio, Talkies, and Burlesque). There is little surprise that nostalgia for vaudevillebegan closely after its death and continues to influence many forms of American entertainment today. Gypsy is story about a family vaudeville centered act trying to make it in a time when vaudeville was dying out. The story contains content about vaudeville and burlesque as it is a biography of the famous burlesque performer Gypsy Rose Lee. Gypsy followed Gypsy Rose Lee from vaudeville to burlesque. Burlesque was synonymous with stripping at this time and is partially credited with killing vaudeville. In the movie Gypsy , the narrator and mother of Miss Gypsy Rose Lee made a comment about how washed up vaudeville acts go to burlesque . because the narration was done from the point of view of Gypsy s mother, the vernacular included early to mid 1900 s slang such as the big time (best vaudeville circuit / Orpheum Circuit) and banana oil (a ridiculous or wrong statement). Analysis Of Everything That Rises Must Converge Heather Chesbro Instructor Kim Socha Freshman Comp., sec. 34 14 September 2017 Who We Are In This New World When reading Everything That Rises Must Converge by Flannery O Conner, most of us will readily agree that it is a story about a young man and his mother. Where this agreement usually ends is when we ask if this was O Conner s intended theme. Whereas some are convinced that the relationship between mother and child is the main theme, others maintain that O Conner was focusing on these characters adapting to social change during the Civil Rights era. I agree with the latter, that the central conflict of the story is that of social change and how both the old and new generations adapt to these changes. Julian s mother is one of the central characters in O Conner s story that we understand to have seen the most social change during her lifetime. His mother s family once owned two hundred slaves and their own land, which they ended up selling post slavery. Their family s wealth diminished, Julian s mother raised him on her own while living in an apartment building in what was once a good neighborhood, struggling to put her son through college. When debating whether or not it was frivolous to have purchased a nice hat, Julian s mother states, With the world in the mess it s in it s a wonder we enjoy anything. I tell you, the bottom rail is on the top (275). This is a phrase that refers to the idea of black citizens gaining power in society post segregation, and was originally coined post slavery. Julian s mother makes her prejudice apparent by implying the rise of black citizens negatively impacts the quality of living for other members of society. Julian loathes his mother s outlook on current society, noting that his mother doesn t know her current social standing. When Julian s mother states, If you know who you are, you can go anywhere (275). Julian replies harshly, Knowing who you are is good for one generation only. You haven t the foggiest idea where you stand now or who you are (275). Christians since before the dream of Constantine have believed God and Christ constitute a ruler of the universe. Anglo Saxon society perceived the Christian God in the mold of the pre Christian Germanic tradition of kingship. The Anglo Saxon perception of Godas a king in the Germanic tradition has tremendous significance on late Anglo Saxon politics. The inclusion of the Christian deity in the leadership hierarchy of Anglo Saxon society contributed to changes in how earthly kings themselves were perceived. Tacitus s Germania offers insight into value system of the continental pagan ancestors of the Anglo Saxons three centuries before Horsa and Hengist. Those peoples, collectively referred to as the Germani are a warrior society. As a culture, they valued no trait higher than bravery in battle and perceived cowardice as a supreme disgrace . On the subject of the Germani leaders Tacitus wrote, They choose their kings for their noble birth, their leader for their valor. But even the power of the kings is not absolute or arbitrary. As for the leaders, it is for example rather than their authority which wins special distinction . These war leaders leading by example inspired fierce loyalty from those under their command. Among the theories was the r/K theory. The r/K theory is used in evolutionary biology and argues that organisms follow a continuum when reproducing (Smith, 2016, p. 17). This theory consists of r and K selection which are basically opposite of one another. When environmental opportunities allow, organisms near the r end reproduce rapidly and productively. However when doing so, not much time is invested in their offspring (Cullen, Agnew, Wilcox, 2014, p. 71). All of the following are components of r selection: mating is emphasized, several children are reproduced, early reproduction occurs, and rapid and productive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Importance Of Cerebral Circulation Cerebral Circulation A constant flow of blood to the brain is vital to its proper functioning. Blood supplies the brain with oxygen and to perform maximally the brain requires about 25% of the body s oxygen (Webb, 2016). Lack of oxygen for a prolonged period results in cell death causing irreversible damage to the brain. Two paired arteries, four total, supply the vital source of blood to the brain and spinal cord. Arterial Structures Blood supply to the brain is divided between the internal carotid arteries (ICA) and the vertebral arteries. As stated in Cippola s text, the right and left ICA from the bifurcations of the common carotid arteries and the ICA itself also split in the anterior and middle cerebral arteries. Its primary function is to supply blood to the cerebrum. The vertebral arteries originate from the subclavian artery and then join distally to form the basilar artery , (Cipolla, 2009). The basilar artery later bifurcates into two posterior cerebral arteries , these arteries supply the inferolateral surface of the temporal lobe and the lateral and medial surfaces of the occipital lobe, (Webb, 2016). While the ICA mainly provides blood to the cerebrum, the vertebral arteries are the primary supply to brain stem and cerebellum. Now, let s see the cons of the federal system. Cons of the federal system are: prevention of the creation of a national policy, lack of accountability, and potential for corruption. Federalismalso causes confusion between the local governments and the national government as well. (Federalism Pros and Cons List, 2015) For an example, the United State doesn t have a single policy on issues, which often leads to the confusion. Also, power of authority can create a possible atmosphere for corruption at local and national level. For an example, if majority of the congress wants to pass a law on something and local states do not agree on it, then the local government can agree on the law to get something in return in form of money or favors! Second, advantages of unitary system are simplicity, less corruption, simplified economic policies, and high level of national pride. Unitary government is simple. Mexico City Policy Current Event Mexico City Policy Current Event The Mexico City Policy, also known by opponents as The Global Gag Rule , was originally introduced as an executive order by president Ronald Reagan in 1984. The policy was made to withhold U.S. family planning, funding and assistance from foreign NGOs (non profits) that include reproductive health organizations and included private hospitals and clinics that perform or publicize abortions. In countries where abortionis permitted, the policy prohibits health workers at NGOs that receive U.S. funding from offering abortion as an option or referring women to a provider (PAI). The Mexico City Policyhad exceptions for those who had abortions done in response to rape, incest, or life threatening conditions. When active, this policy could erase any progress made by the women that lack access to today s modern contraceptives. The global gag rule forces organizations to prioritize which communities they want to serve: women seeking abortions or all other women, children and families (Jones, 2004). This policy was then revoked by President Obama in 2009. Currently, supporters are making sure that in the future presidents, like Trump, can t rescind the policy without Congress. The Sphinx represents the guardian of the Giza plateau. Revered in Ancient Egypt the feline form has a long association with royalty, power and protection. An evacuation lead by French archaeologist Dr. Alain Zivie believed inscriptions suggest Egyptians bred lions as well as buried them in sacred cemeteries. In 2001, Zive and his crew found a mummified lion in the tomb of a woman understood to be the wet nurse of Pharaoh Tutankhamen dated to 1430. The wear of the lion s teeth indicate it lived to old age and was in captivity. One theorist, Robert Temple, declares the Sphinx is not a lion at all, because of the flat back, lack of mane, and the disproportion of the head. He believes the original statue was craved before the old kingdom and portrayed the Egyptian god Anubis, with a head of a jackal and body of a man (see figure 1). Anubis is traditionally associated with mummification and the afterlife. Temple believes that between 2200 2000BC, the monument was defaced then re carved during the fourth dynasty in the image of Pharaoh Khafre. He also presumes the Sphinx enclosure was flooded with Nile water to make an island. The northern colonies primarily consisted of people who were looking for religious freedom. It was also comprised of men who were well versed in law and government. A common purpose unified the colonists in the north and helped to create tight knit communities. As a result, the northern states thrived. However, since the 1950s it has been commonly evoked in reference to African forced migration and is now used to describe a variety of peoples and relocation experiences. In addition to diaspora, other terms are also being used quite heavily in discussions of the movement of people, including border , and Clifford explores the differences and similarities between people living in a state of border versus a state of diaspora while both suggest connections and multilocalities of people borders implies a politically and geographically defined line, where as a diaspora connotates a further distance of separation, and possibly a sense of exile.
