The Life Of The World By Fr. Alexander Schmemann
For the Life of the World authored by Fr. Alexander Schmemann an Orthodox priest was originally
intended as a study guide in the 1970 s for students preparing themselves for Missionary work,
giving them a world view , helping to speak about Christian view points along with an approach to
how they coalesce through the eyes of the Orthodox Church. A key theme Fr. Schmemann
discussed is Secularism, which he believes developed from our progressive alienation of the
Christian culture. Additionally, he presents his interpretation of the transforming biblical themes of
creation, fall, and redemption through a sacramental understanding. Fr. Schmemann s experiences
within the Orthodox Church liturgy reveal unity in the meanings of these three themes. It is
through these understandings he believes can effectively offset the disastrous effects of secularism
while revitalizing the sacramental understanding of the world. The author divided the book into
seven chapters, each building upon one another; The Life of the world, The Eucharist, The Time of
Mission, Of Water and the Spirit, The Mystery of Love, Trampling Down death by death, and Ye
Are Witnesses of These Things. Moreover, two Appendices follow the chapters: Worship in a
Secular Age and Sacraments and Symbol. In particular, Fr. Schmemann opens by converging on the
ostensibly minor theme of nourishment, even quoting famed philosopher Ludwig Feuerbach s
phrase. Man is what he eats. Anti religious groups attempt to portray

Comparing Language In The Cask Of Amontillado And The Lady
A writer s craft of the English language, is like a spiders web, beautiful and unique. It is
necessary so the story can be woven in to create a masterpiece. The author can change the story
entirely by changing the way the narrator speaks. In The Cask of Amontillado , The Scarlet Ibis ,
and The Lady, or the Tiger , each craft of language provides a vivid background for the story to
unfold. The way each writerprovides certain vocabulary, and way of speaking enhances the reader
s experience by giving the reader a chance to guess the time period. Readers also guess the area the
story is taking place by using their knowledge that different regions in countries have different
slang. The way the narrator speaks and which vocabulary they use creates... Show more content on

Near the beginning of the story, the narrator talks about their neighbor Miss Leedie, who was in
love with President Wilson and wrote him a letter every day (416). While talking about Miss
Leedie, the author seamlessly tells the setting of the story. President Wilson served in America
from 1913 to 1921 and it is mentioned that he was the president during this short story. Later in
the story, the narrator mentions the barn loft was covered with a film of Paris green (418). Paris
green was used by Americans around the 1900s. The tone of the story starts out nostalgic, telling
events that happened when the narrator was younger, but then later the tone turns into a more
regretful and guilty voice, for pushing the younger brother past his limit. You can tell this by
looking at the beginning, and seeing how the narrator was so happy when his brother was born.
The narrator then gets greedy and selfish, making the younger brother feel bad about himself.
Aw, come on, Doodle, I urged. You can do it. Do you want to be different from everybody else
when you start school? Does it make any difference? It certainly does, I said (422). The
determination to have a normal brother grows, and you can see this when the narration is more
about the wants of the narrator instead of how happy he is to have a brother. Time was short, and
Doodle still had a long way to go if he was going to keep up with the other boys when he started
school (422). The whole story evolves when the author makes the narrator s heart harden and saying
that the younger brother was more and more flawed. The author crafts his story so that you have to
think, instead of just telling you the purpose of the story, enhancing the experience of the

Speaking English Official Language
I agree with senator James M. Inhofe that english should be the official language of the
nation. What convinced me that english should be the official language nation is when he said
Speaking English is a guaranteed way for new immigrants to succeed in school, increase their
career options. This statement convinced me the most because it can force the immigrants to
learn a new language for their own good. For example if a refugee came to america he/she would
already know english so they would get a better life or opportunities. A scholarship would be an
opportunity because if you were a kid when you came to america it would be easier to understand
and speak the language fluently and not have difficulties even if your intelligent. Another

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Essay
A 54 year old patient named Rod suffered from severe depression since the age of 17. He tried
many combinations of therapy and medications for over 2 decades with no success, however, at
the age of 53, Rod went to the Calabasa TMS Center for a three week TMS treatment, and his
depression was greatly improved. Now, he still attends therapy and a routine TMS treatment, and
his depression is cured. He spoke of the treatment in an interview with the center, TMS has
eliminated the depression and allowed me to be awake and alive (Success Story). Transcranial
Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an alternative treatment to medication for severely depressed
persons that uses magnetic currents to simulate the brain, thus treating depression symptoms
(Fawcett). It has been a successful alternative for many patients when they do not respond to
medication, and in 2008, the FDA approved TMS for those with major... Show more content on

There are very few patients who discontinue treatment because of side effects, and side effects are
rare (Mennitto). Unlike other alternative treatments, TMS is very targeted, and is unlikely to
cause seizures (Fawcett).A TMS study conducted at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago,
Illinois, showed a positive success rate for a majority of the patients, with a small relapse rate
(Achieve). The Calabasas TMS Center, and many other TMS centers, provide many stories of
patients who responded well to treatment, like Rob (Success Story). Overall, TMS is a successful
treatment option for the majorly depressed who have not responded to prior treatment. It works by
simulating the brain through electromagnetic pulses, thus resetting the system. TMS alters
neuronal activity in regions of the brain specializing in mood regulation. As seen in Rob s story,
this resetting of the system relieves depressive symptoms, and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is

Swimming Team At A Swim Team
In 2009, my 9 year old daughter expressed an interest in joining a swim team. After researching
the options available, I signed her up for a tryout with a local club, Vancouver Swim Club
(VSC). Once complete, Meghan was assigned to the novice instructor, with the suggestion that
she swim at least three times a week, and improve her proficiency with the required strokes. Over
the next four years, she trained, and improved her skills, while I had the opportunity to grow in
many areas in the larger VCS support organization. I would take my daughter to her swim
lessons three to five days a week, and I slowly began to grow closer to the other parents who would
watch the practices from an elevated deck above the pool. Friendships were formed... Show more

By my second year with the team, I was asked to serve on the board of directors as the club
secretary. VSC is a non profit organization, and uses a board of directors to establish coaching
rates, approve the operational budgets, and provide guidance on the strategic plan for the club.
Being the secretary would mean responsibility for the meeting minutes, and related
correspondence. It was through my work on the board, that I began to take an interest in the fee
structure, and did a competitive analysis of other swim clubs in the area. The 2008 global
financial crisis had led VSC to hold coaching rates steady, and halt all raises for the paid team of
coaches. But by 2011, the club was growing, and the local economy had stabilized enough that a
change in the rates would be warranted. In addition to the fees paid for coaching, VSC receives
operating income through different fund raising activities. The fund raising options could vary
each year, but the largest event was the annual swim meet held at the VSC pool in January. At
this three day event, over 400 swimmers from the north west would compete against swimmers
from 12 or more clubs. For each event that a swimmer enters, VSC receives a portion of the fee,
plus proceeds from the sale of food, clothing, and the event program would be returned to the club.
In 2011, I was asked to run the annual swim meet. I took charge of inviting the swim teams,

What Are The Similarities Between North And South Korea
The two governmental structures that I have chosen to analyse are those of North and South Korea.
Despite being in very close quarters their governmental structures differ greatly. North Korea is a
Communist state with a one man dictatorship (CIA World Fact Book), South Korea on the other
hand, is a republic democracy(CIA World Fact Book).
North Korea is the subject of one supreme leader, Kim Jong un. The executive branch involves
the head of government, Premier PAK Pong Ju and vice premiers, and the cabinet also known as
Naegak both are elected by the Supreme People s Assembly (SPA) (CIA World Fact Book). The
SPA is North Korea s rubber stamp legislature , with 687 delegates (Inside North Korea s
Supreme People s Assembly, 2015 ), they come under the legislative branch and are also known
as Ch oego Inmin Hoeui. The Judicial branch is headed by The Supreme Court, here the judges
are chosen by the SPA. Despite this three way division of power, balance and checks have no
meaning in North Korea a country characterised by a one party dictatorship (Understanding North
Korea, 2012). The North Korean legal system involves a civil law system based on the Prussian
model , inspired by Communist legal theory. (CIA World Fact Book)... Show more content on

Personal Growth Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar
Personal Growth in Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar Sylvia Plath uses this quote in The Bell Jar to
show the main character Esther Greenwood struggles. The quote states as followed, There is
something demoralizing about watching two people get more and more crazy about each other,
especially when you are the only extra person in the room. It s like watching Paris from an
express caboose heading in the opposite direction every second the city gets smaller and smaller,
only you feel it s really you getting smaller and smaller and lonelier and lonelier, rushing away
from all those lights and excitement at about a million miles an hour (Plath 110). Plath uses this
quote to encapsulate the true feelings of the main character and her struggles with social
conformity. It is obvious that Esther Greenwood is directly inspired by Plath herself. The many
similarities include their pseudonyms, the absence of a father, their young age, and their high level
of intelligence. The only major difference is Esther s suicideattempt was fortunately unsuccessful
while Sylvia Plath s was unfortunately successful. Plath committed suicide at the age of thirty due
to her major struggles of conforming to society. Sylvia Plath In The Bell Jar, the author, Sylvia
Plath, uses metaphors, symbolism, and tone to draw attention to the main characters journey
through mental illness and her struggle to relate to the feminist expectations of society.

Regulating Interest Rates as a Solution to the Recession...

the rest of the world. Company giants such as Circuit CityВ® and Merrill LynchВ® have fallen
victim to the financial crisis. One of the biggest industries the financial crisis has had an impact on
has been the housing market. Everyday newspapers, journal articles, and television media cover
stories regarding foreclosures around the country. To regain financial control of the world and

By repaying their debt, this helps the banking industry, which in turn strengthens the economy. This
is a win win situation because everyone benefits from it: the consumer improves his or her credit
worthiness in order to purchase a home at a later time, the banking industry does not lose out on
loaned money in either the short or long term, and home buyers will be able to enter an
agreement with the lender knowing beforehand that their interest rate will not rise at any point,
thus making it affordable. For people who are currently in an ARM, the banking industry should
allow them to transfer to a fixed rate loan that allows affordability to the consumer without
jeopardizing loss of money on the banking industry. The banking industry should also be flexible
regarding requests by its home owners. Some people are beginning to realize ahead of time that
eventually they will not able to afford the house they are living in. One solution might be to allow
the flexibility such as lowering payments for a specified amount of time such as one or two years.
Affordability is the main idea to a homeowner. If a mortgage is affordable, most likely a
homeowner will continue to make his or her payments on time and not foreclose on the home.
For example, if a person is paying $1,000 per month in mortgage and is not able to afford this
amount, by allowing them to reduce their payments to $800 on a two year agreement, the bank will
temporarily lose

Consumer vs. Physicians attitudes toward health products advertising
Nowadays many advertisements of health products are placed on many satellite channels. These
health products include medications. Accordingly, consumers may perceive these ads in a way that
differs from physicians and each would have different attitudes. Previous studies have shown that
physicians generally would be opposed to health care advertising for a number of reasons. For
example, doctors might feel that medical professionals should eschew advertising because: the
public must be protected against fraudulent and unscrupulous promoters; advertising would lower
the prestige of professionals in the public s eye; and it is an expense which would not necessarily ...

This way the unauthorized untrained people, who advertise on medicines as a type of a business
strategy, will dare not to abuse the people s illiteracy of their true aims and will not manage to
commercialize a medicine that was proven by the government to be a faked one. People will then
be more aware and careful not to take for granted any medicine they see in an ad (Sayre, 1907).
G. N. Watson (1918) said that there are laws in Kansas which relate to medicine that state:
1 Any official medicine prepared should be formed by the US pharmacy should conform to quality,
strength and purity of the tests.
2 Any official medicine prepared should conform to preparations of the product created from
official components and by process of the official formula of its preparation (Watson, 1918).
He mentioned that another regulation stated that a drug having a certain brand name and
recognized for it in the US National Formula or pharmacy, should have the same purity, strength
and quality as the standard medicine prescribed for a medicine of the same standard name in the
US National Formula or pharmacy, official at similar timing of sale; offering in case of electric
drug or homeopathic similar requirements are to be followed by legal standards (Watson, 1918).

Introduction
Attention Deficit Disorder comes under many names and manifests itself in many different ways.
The basic definition of ADD includes a difficulty in concentrating and staying on a task with or
without symptoms of hyperactivity. There are many different symptoms included in this definition,
all listed in DSM IV. In this paper I will not differentiate between subtypes of ADD as the
predominantly inattentive type, the predominately hyperactive impulsive type and the combined
type.
The difficulties caused by ADD are numerous and manifest themselves especially in the educational
setting. This is not to say that there are not difficulties in other areas of the human existence as
personal relations, work etc. But the educational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The various activity levels of the brain are defined as brain waves and divided into four basic
groups according to wavelength. Delta waves range between 0 4 Hz, Theta waves range
between 4 8 Hz, Alpha waves range between 8 13 Hz and Beta waves are greater than 13 Hz.
Alpha waves are typical of states of quiet rest, none particular activity and sometimes when the
eyes are closed. Beta waves are typical of states of alertness, attentiveness or active thinking. Beta
waves appear also in the REM sleep stage along with Theta waves while the other sleep stages are
characterized by Theta and Delta brain activity .
Many researchers noted a discrepancy between the EEG of subjects with learning disabilities or
ADD and normal subjects. Typically, the ADD subjects were characterized by brain activity on the
slower end of the frequency spectrum quot; The most important characteristic is either an excessive
amount of theta activity, a lack of beta activity or a combination of these quot; (Lubar, 1985.
The existence of such differences suggests the usage of EEG recording as a good diagnostic tool
in the assessment of ADD and Learning Disabilities. Lubar does not differentiate between LD and
ADD subjects but as the focus of this paper is on treatment of ADD I will limit my dicusssion to
the results of ADD subject without imlying anything about effects on LD subjects. On that note,
some work was also done in the last decades on using brain activity

Themes In Coming Of Age Stories
Coming of age stories are a very relatable genre of literature. The underlying plot line in coming of
age stories involve the main character, an adolescent, experiencing a pivotal event that changes their
point of view on life (Peyette, n.d.). The event marks the adolescent s transition into adulthood. The
event can often be referred to as initiation. The stories are thought provoking and interesting to read
because they contain numerous underlying messages and themes that can serve as tools to
understanding life. In the coming of agestories The Old People , Doe Season , and The Grave the
imagery of blood is portrayed in a more positive light in the story focusing on a male character than
in the stories focusing on female characters.
In the coming of age story The Old People , Ike McCaslin, the main character, is being mentored
by Sam Fathers. Sam is a family friend to the McCaslin s who also has a very interesting ethnic
background, and he has strong ties to the Native American culture. Ike shot his first deer after
chasing a large buck around the forest. To everyone s surprise, excluding Sam, the large buck
Ike chased around the forest was nothing comparable to the creature everyone else saw in the
forest. What lay before Sam and Ike was a small yearling. Sam took some of the yearling s blood
and put it on Ike s forehead as a type of Native American ritual (Faulkner, 1940). The ritual almost

The Birth of A Butterfly In the beginning, the goddess Dea was alone. She did not like being

The Importance Of Adult Day Care
Some questions that go through the minds of people planning to retire are very stressing to
them. A majority of people do not know what they will do. Many people plan to do volunteer
work while others plan to devote more time to hobbies or special interest (Rathus, 2015). Another
question they ask themselves is, How will I afford it? Pensions have been declining lately, layoffs
have been rising, and property values have been falling, so many of the older employees have to
postpone their plans for retirementor do not even retire (Rathus, 2015). Also, many never know
where they will live. Many retirees stay where they already live but as time goes on they become
less physically independent, and may need to live in assisted facilities or with one of their children

They often retire earlier, and earn a higher amount of their salary in retirement than many other

their retirement calculations. Firefighters are starting their careers between the ages of twenty
seven and twenty nine, because education and training requirements are increasing (Lando,

rush into buildings as they get older (Lando, 2014). As they get old they become more of a
reliability and it costs a lot more when they get injured on the job (Lando, 2014). Firefighters need
at least thirty five and half years of service at the age of fifty to earn ninety percent of their

A Spiritual Perspective
The book of Proverbs Chapter 3, verses 5 6 says: Trust the Lord with all you do. Do not depend
on your own understanding and seek HIS will in all you do. He will make straight your path
(NLT). This verse is evidenced in every aspect of theological virtues. These virtues are infused
through divine grace (Sokolowski, 1995), and are characteristics of human personality that manifest
themselves only through eternal salvation. The three characteristics are Faith, Hope, and Charity. I
was quite pleased to find this discussion had been categorized, and even subcategorized. I tend to

More interestingly is the motivation for that result is different in each case. Where technically each
of the aforementioned theories is based in the philosophy of ethics they are from differing
paradigms.
Decisions made on a purely ethical or consequential basis are the ones that produce the most
intrinsic good either to the agent or to the will of the agent (always relative to the agent)
Decisions made on a purely moral basis are ones made to satisfy the categorical imperative
Kantism . The focus is on the act itself, and always doing what is deemed right in a situation
(Brown, 2001).
Decisions based on virtues follow the Christian view of ethics, which states that as humans we have
a free will to choose between right and wrong.
In the book titled Aristotle s De Motu Animalium, Text with Translation, Commentary, and
Interpretive Essays , the parallel between Aristotelianism and Aquinas (Nussbaum, 1978) the author
finds:
The most striking example of an attempt to associate Aristotle with moral deductivism has been the
Aristotelianism of Aquinas and the tradition of exegesis descending from it (1978)
While it is the best choice as a Christian, to offer the option for partial order fulfillment of
Scuppernongs, the aid of contract negotiations with other suppliers, or financial accommodations
for any shortcomings until previous levels of Scuppernongs can be obtained, this rejects the

How To Call A Tujunga Plumber
You probably do not spend a lot of time thinking about your plumbing system unless there is
something wrong. However, if you suspect that there is something wrong with your plumbing
system, then you will need to call a Tujunga plumber. This can prevent more serious problems from
occurring.
It is important to remember that every part of your plumbing system is connected. That is why if
there is a small problem in your plumbing system, then the entire thing will be affected. Tujunga
plumbers focus on preventing plumbing problems before they turn into serious ones.
If you are in need of qualified Tujunga plumbers, then you will need to give Adee Plumbing a call.

1.About Kazakhstan: An Introduction
Kazakhstan is the largest ex Soviet Union state and the ninth largest country worldwide, but it is
sparsely populated with 17 million inhabitants (13th lowest population density worldwide). The
extractive sector, the backbone of the economy, is dominated by international companies, which
finance their activities from their foreign parent companies. Consequently, Kazakhstan has a high
level of private foreign debt. The state is strongly present in the economy. Its investment holding
company, Samruk Kazyna, holds assets to tilling 50% of GDP, divided over the oil, gas and
financial sectors. The participation in the financial sector is a consequence of a bail out after the
2009 crisis, when the banking sector was overhauled. China is the most important business partner
for Kazakhstan due to its share in trade and investments (China currently holds 24% of the oil
sector).
2.Economy
The role and economic significance of the countries of Central Asia have been transformed over
the past decade. High oil and commodity prices have been a key factor in their impressive growth,
but growth has also followed post independence reforms in economic

Bilateral Review System Analysis
Bilateral review systems are ultimately unreliable. Many customers are forced to say positive, but
not necessarily true, traits about themselves or hotels and are usually rated by companies unfairly.
For Uber, customers are rated on their behavior, but there are no real standards suggesting what is
meant by good, bad, or mediocre behavior. It is purely up to the designation of the driver, which
can be more opinionated than factual. Thus, it is not a surprise when a passenger feels perplexed
to find out his or her passenger score has been lowered even if the passenger did everything in his
or her power to leave a lasting impression on the driver.
This then puts an overwhelming amount of pressure people to write a review about themselves,

They feel their story is not just for an industry audience, but for everyone; government officials,
labor leaders, industry executives and general readers, in every country with an interest in how
society goes about making things. The best way to describe lean production is to contrast it to
its predecessors: craft production and mass production. Craft production uses highly skilled
workers and simple but flexible tools to make exactly what the consumer asks for, one item at a
time. The result is that consumers get exactly what they want but at a prohibitively high cost.
Mass production uses narrowly skilled professionals to design products made by unskilled or
semiskilled workers tending expensive, single purpose machines. The machines produce
standardized products in very high volume. Due to the high cost of disruption of the process, the
mass producer adds many buffers extra supplies, workers and space to assure smooth production.
Also due to high cost of changing over to a new product, the mass producer keeps standard
designs in production as long as possible. The result is the consumer gets lower costs but at the
expense of variety, and workers tend to find their part of the process boring. Lean production, by
contrast, uses teams of multiskilled workers at all levels of the organization, and uses highly
flexible, increasingly automated machines to produce large volumes of products in enormous
variety. The term

1. In order to reduce the burden of the blood sampling volunteer work concentrated on TP, change
the operational rules and expand the targeted business offices for sampling to SC and headquarters.
1) Adding a blood sampling institution near headquarters
To enable headquarters employees to participate, we are looking for some blood sampling

The Jewish cemetery in Victoria, British Columbia
Introduction The Jewish cemetery in Victoria, British Columbia, is located on the corner of Cedar
Hill Road and Fernwood. This historical cemetery remains active within the Jewish community. It
was consecrated in 1860, and the first burial was conducted on March 20, 1861. The individual
buried was murder victim Morris Price. In 2012, the cemeterywas victimized by vandalism, which
resulted in the destruction of multiple gravestones. Since, individuals should request approval
before visiting the gated cemetery. The Jewish doctrine believes that sacred items should never be

There are also monuments that are more salient and mention the concentration camps that the
individuals survived (Appendix B, Figure 2). The community purposefully includes monument
inscriptions to show an individual s connection to the Holocaust. This action creates tribute to those
who were victims of the Holocaust. This practice also creates a collaborative means for the
community to mourn over these survivors.
What is the role of identity in this process of mourning Holocaust survivors? The Jewish identity is
reintegrated among the monuments through Hebrew inscriptions, the Star of David, and ritual
practices (Appendix B, Figure 3). Eva Reimers (1999), interprets that a collective group identity is
based on the idea of common historical origin (p. 148). This idea is important when analyzing the
role of identity in the process of mourning Holocaust survivors. It illustrates that the formation of
identity is founded on historical events. Therefore, the Holocaust serves as a historical event, which
reinforced the importance of Jewish identity to the Jewish community. The practices of collectively
mourning Holocaust survivors serves as an extension over the generations, which reduce the threat
death poses to reduction of Jewish identity (Reimers, 1999, p.148). Furthermore, remembering the
victims of the Holocaust creates a collective

The Fate of The Donner Party Essay
Desperate times call for desperate measures. This advice has been used as a way to justify
questionable actions in times of despair for many years. Following the advice, the Donner Party did
whatever they could to survive. Stuck in a snowstorm, the group is believed to have reverted back
to animalistic ways, and devoured each other to survive. While no one knows the truth of that
fateful winter, many agree that cannibalism was their main form of survival. Though the Donner

Records at this time were practically nonexistent and because of that, the Donner Party has gone
into history as not just a tragic tale, but the Great American Dream gone awry (Diamond, 1). Still
today, it is unclear whether the Donner Party resorted to cannibalism as a means of survival. The
events have been associated with cannibalism by so many and for so long that the undeclared
verdict of the Donner Party is that they did in fact resort to cannibalism. Certainly there are
arguments that disagree with this, but it is quite apparent that the party is guilty of
anthropophagy. The most common argument against the cannibalism theory is that the party
used their basic survival skills; they ate small game rather than each other to stay alive. Despite
being a valid point, there are weaknesses with that belief. Early on in their excursion the party
quickly exhausted their food supply. Fearing they were in for the worst, the group sent 15 group
members out for help and sure enough a snow storm trapped them on November 1, 1846. Any
available animals were eaten first and when that food source became scarce, they turned to eating
their pets like the family dog. They were enduring extreme starvation after just nine days which
lead to important decisions regarding their survival. In other words, a discussion regarding
cannibalism had begun (Diamond, 2). This is where the eating small game belief exposes said

Financial services differ greatly depending upon where you are at. Different countries have different
currencies, markets, laws, and accounting practices to list a few. Because of this most financial
institutions use a similar organizational structure. Goldman Sachs breaks their operations into four
segments: Institutional client services, investment management, investment banking, and
investment and lending (GS).
Institutional Client Services
They have a global structure to ensure satisfaction with strategic and financing needs of clients
around the world. In the institutional client services segment they facilitate client transactions and
make markets in fixed income, equity, currency and commodity products primarily with
institutional clients (GS). In addition to this they make markets and clear client transactions on
major stock options and futures exchanges worldwide, provide financing, securities lending and
prime brokerage services (GS). Although revenues from these activities are decreasing it is still by

Rhetorical Devices In Fearless Of Taylor Swift
As the result declares Rhetorical as the top most used figure of speech, it can be inferred that the
album Fearless of Taylor Swift, mainly indicates lyrics that are in a question form. Proof to this
are lyrics found on You Belong With Me Song which is a part of the Album stating Can t you see
that I m the one who understands you? and Why can t you see you belong with me? . The album
also indicated lyrics that are to represent something which is not directly stated and these are
based on the result that Metonymy had garnered the most used type of figurative language. An
example to this is a line found from the song You re Not Sorry which states This is the last straw
. In modern time s straw is used to connect things like when we can t reach the soda inside its

of lines falls under understatement. Evidence to this is a line from the song White Horsewhich states

Ethical and Legal Issues in Magazines
Ethical and legal issues
According to D. E. Summer and S. Rhoades in Magazines: a complete guide to the industry;
magazines face the same legal and ethical issues than newspapers: [...] plagiarism, libel, slander,
invasion of privacy, editorial bias, and inaccuracy [1]. Indeed, there are some limits to what a
journalist can write, an editor can publish, a photographer can photograph, and a designer can
design. Magazines go sometimes beyond the ethical or legal bounds. All these issues are parts of
the decision making process that magazines have to handle.

It is the editor s responsibility to draw the limit between the editorial content and what
advertisers want. Advertisers also give controversial ads that can raise some ethical problems for
the readers. Some examples of controversial ads such as Benetton, Tom ford Perfume, Dolce
Gabbana, American Apparel or a French campaign against Aids (a man making love to a giant
black scorpion)[6] have been seen in most famous fashion magazines. They are always racial,
ethnicity or sexual oriented which can be good when it creates a buzz but also can be associated
with the magazine s image and may damage the latter (obviously it depends also on the magazine s
policy, conservative or not).
The code of ethics (several are available) is a set of rules that can help journalists to make the
right decision, a sort of written standards that can be used as guidelines and there are not
binding. According to the code of ethics, journalists should seek the truth and report it, minimize
harm, act independently, and be accountable. It can be used as a general guideline but cannot be
followed exactly as it is, because it may be too vague to be applied and sometimes it does not
give clear cut advice, does not fit with the magazines policy or does not correspond to the writer,
editor, photographer or designer s point of view, value or principles. When the code of ethic is not
useful enough, then they have to check with their own personal ethics which means taking a very

can, in many ways, be considered one of the greatest rulers of England. His defeat of the Danes,

ecclesiastical culture are the result of his superior leadership and command. The epithet, The
Great, attached to his name by writers of the sixteenth century and given to no other English king
is another reflection of the kind of ruler he was.1 A twelfth century writer notes the prestige that
was given to Alfred when he wrote, He reigned for twenty and eight years; there are few such men

In 853 he played his first role in politics and diplomacy. At the age of four, Alfred was sent to
Rome by his father to represent him at a papal court. Even at such a young age, Alfred was
taking part in the politics of his country. At four years old Alfred took part in a legal ceremony at
his father s court and at age five he was a witness to a series of charters given to churches by his
father.4 Alfred took part in many of the political activities in his father s court. Because of
Alfred s active role in the diplomacy of his father s kingdom, he had a different education than
one would expect a future king to have. He spent his youth taking part in his father s court and
hunting. Through his hunting, he learned the land of his father s kingdom, which would become
an advantage against the Viking invaders during his reign.5 Alfred did not have a literate
education as a young boy. He remained illiterate in Anglo Saxon until his teen years and in Latin
until much later in his life.6 However, his literacy made no difference in his ability to lead a
country against attack. As the fourth son of a king, it is quite an oddity that Alfred took the
throne in 871. However, with the deaths of all of his brothers, Alfred was able to lead his kingdom
to victory over the Vikings. At a battle in 878 against the Viking leader Guthrum Alfred was able to

The development of mass media has changed society and we are now all familiar with the term
global village where news and information is spread around the world within minutes. As with
Gutenberg s printing press, the affect of mass media is so immense it needs to be analysed.
Amanda Lotz wrote Television Will Be Revolutionized and said that Television played a
significant role in articulating post war American identity . It shaped and formed America,
Television at the time was very basic but rapidly developed from having the same channels across
the nation to affiliates reporting locally. The power the media had changed and manipulated
America. This was most telling during the coverage of the Vietnam War and the Nixon downfall,
when American audiences struggled to eat their dinners every night with the shocking images on

it s last thing people saw before they go to sleep. The number of channels multiplied after the 1970 s

Faulkner s tragic characters like Shakespeare s are those who have a more than a passing
conflict with negation and who believe that they should be able to act in the world in such a way
to emerge victorious from that conflict. We can see that the situation Faulkner s characters
confront are almost the similar to those confronted by Shakespeare s. They are all trapped in a
world controlled by the forces and people from which the protagonist wish to escape. Both
Shakespeare s and Faulkner s tragic heroes believe that they can conquer these forces and this
believe lead them to their ultimate destruction. Shakespeare tragic protagonists confront an
obligatory fate and in response try to control circumstances and people in order to avoid their own
destruction this believe to control his own fate in the illusion held by the tragic figures that he can
sufficiently influence forces around him. Yet his own reaction achieve the opposite effect initiating
and completing his demise. A character such as Hamlet may become an obsessed with death but
find himself impotent to bring about changes in the world, nor he can avoid his doom. While
Macbeth is ambitious to become the greatest Southern aristocrat to his children s doomed battle
with the poisoned inheritance passed down from a materialistic and defeated landed gentry. These
situations are closely associated with Faulkner s art. In the Sound and fury and Absalom, Absalom!,

Analysis of The Unknown Citizen by W.H. Auden Essay examples
Analysis of The Unknown Citizen by W.H. Auden The Unknown Citizen , written by W.H. Auden
during 1940, is a poem where the speaker, a representative of the state or government, directs a
speech to the audience about a monument being erected for a citizen. Written in free verse,
although using many couplets, this poem is a poem that describes the life of a certain person
through his records and documents. This citizen is portrayed as a normal and average human being
who is being honoured for being normal. Auden, however, uses the fact that the state is honouring
someone for being normal to criticise his society. By emphasizing certain grammatical conventions

Throughout the poem, Auden sarcastically shows that the state is erecting a monument for a
nobody. Monuments are usually erected as a memorial to a person with outstanding
accomplishments who stand out from the rest of the population. However, this citizen does not
do anything that makes him different from the rest of the population. As Auden writes: The
Press are convinced that he bought a paper every day And that his reactions to advertisements
were normal in every way. Policies taken out in his name prove that he was fully insured, And
his Health card shows he was once in a hospital but left it cured. Both Producers Research and

describes this citizen as being an overall regular man in society, who did not change or impact the
world by any means. He was a normal man who bought a paper every day

The Fusion of Content and Form in Sonnet 29 Essay examples
The Fusion of Content and Form in Sonnet 29
One of the most popular of the fixed poetic forms in English literature is the sonnet. Attributed to
the Italian poet Petrarch in the fourteenth century, the sonnet is still used by many contemporary
writers. The appeal of the sonnet lies in its two part structure, which easily lends itself to the
dynamics of much human emotional experience and to the intellectual mode of human sensibility
for argument based on complication and resolution.
In the last decade of the sixteenth century, sonnet writing became highly fashionable following the
publication of Sir Philip Sydney s sonnet sequence Astrophel and Stella, published in 1591. Sonnet
sequences were widely read and admired at this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A different rhyme scheme and thus a different convention of logical and rhetorical organization
determines the differences between the two sonnet forms. In the Petrarchian sonnet the problem is
solved by reasoned perception or a meditative process.
The Shakespearean sonnet maintains the basic two part structure of conflict and resolution, now
presented in fourteen lines of three quatrains and a concluding rhyming couplet. Each quatrain
presents a further aspect of a problem, conflict, or idea. The resolution occurs in the last two of a
rhyming couplet, achieved through logical cleverness that summarizes or ties together what has
been expressed in the three quatrains. The rhyme scheme, subject to variation, is abab, cdcd, efef,
gg in iambic pentameter.
The sonnet sequence is a gathering together of a number of sonnets to present a narrative or
examine a larger theme. Shakespeare s sequence, like Sydney s, was intended as a series of love
poems to celebrate the poet s affections for a young male friend. The poems were collected and
published as a sequence in 1609, though initially they were private poems meant for a small circle
of writers and friends, not for publication. There are 154 sonnets in the sequence. Some scholars
speculate these are ones that remain from a longer work, thus accounting for the sonnet s problems
in chronology, thematic development, and connections between individual poems. Other scholars
speculate that not all

The Voice from a Birdcage A brave woman sang a sombre song from inside a birdcage in the late
19th century. As a novelist and also a well known feminist, Charlotte Perkins Gilman fearlessly
spoke up about her conception, freedom, in her masterpiece, The Yellow Wallpaper . She
proposed big issue divorce around that time. In this semi autographical story, she describes her
conflict of marital discord. Gilman intertwines her frustrations about a relationship with her
husband and depicts the distress through many symbols, so that people should be aware what
genuine happiness as a human being is. Through the relationship between Else and John, Gilman
pointed out that females are given a disadvantage by their husbands. For example, she explains
that John stands high because of his social status as a physician and a husband. Gilman illustrates
this situation through the symbolism of the wallpaper; two breadth didn t match one is a little
higher than the other (768). Another example is that Else is eager to live on the first floor
because she can see the beautiful garden from the window, but John keeps her on the second floor
even though they should move all the furniture from the first floor. Who is willing to carry all the
heavy furniture such as a bed, a mattress, a dining table and chairs to upstairs only for three
months? John s decision is quite unreasonable. However, John s long absence is the most
frustrating for her. John goes out all day, and sometimes he stays in

The Importance Of A Comfort Zone As A Resident Assistant...
Introduction
A comfort zone is a relaxing safe space in which people are familiar with because it causes no
anxiety or stress. In life, each of us will be in uncomfortable situations that are outside of our
comfort zone. However, we have to be become accustomed in environments that are normally
perceived as uncomfortable to experience what others may have to deal with on a daily basis.
Additionally, this applies to social workers. We may deal with clients or different situations that
are out of our comfort zone. However, we must overcome it to be more aware, as well as
completing the job to the best of our abilities. For instance, a strongly devoted Baptist African
American male may be uncomfortable attending a LGBT Pride parade due to his beliefs.
Nonetheless, this experience may change his perspective on individuals from the LGBT
community and cause him to not be as biased or judgmental. This paper will entail my personal
experience of being outside of my comfort zone as a Resident Assistant for the University of Texas
at Arlington.
As a Resident Assistant, my job is to create a fun, on campus living experience for residents in a co
ed residence hall while hosting academic, life engaging, social, and/or inclusive programs for them
to attend. Nevertheless, I am the residents connection to resources on campus, such as the
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Health Services, Career Center, the Leadership
Center, and many other resources on campus. This job is a

Zoroastrianism A Religion
Consider the question of whether Judaism is essentially a religion, a race, a culture, or something
else. Support your response by making reference to key events, individuals, or beliefs as they relate
to the origin and historical development of Judaism.
When it comes to the discussion as to what constitutes as Judaism, I believe that it is important to
remember that the discussion as to what is Judaism is quite debatable. The discussion of what
constitutes Judaism as it comes to the Jewish identity has brought many different many different
definitions among those who have studied relevant fields. Additionally, when attempting... Show

At that time most within the area of Persia followed the various deities of the Irano Aryan religion,
however, Zarathustra brought up a different faith system (Bekhrad, 2017). His belief system
firstly placed emphasis on the idea of monotheism (as opposed to the polytheism of Irano Aryan
religion) since he felt there was only one god named Ahura Mazda who was worthy of their
worship (Bekhrad, 2017). While the concept of monotheism was the central point within
Zoroastrianism, other theological aspects which were present in his religious thought includes
Angra Mainyu (the evil spirit who in some aspects was like Satan), heaven and hell, and a
collection of scripture called Avesta (Corduan, 2015). Zoroastrianism had a strong influence on
other religious movements and played a role in part in shaping the theology which they held
(Bekhrad, 2017). The first example of this would have to be with regards to the Jewish religion
since it shows many parallels with Zoroastrianism s beliefs (Bekhrad, 2017). Such examples of
these similarities would have to include that of monotheism (God and Ahura Mazda), the idea of a
collection of scriptures (Torah and Avesta), and belief in upcoming messianic figures (the Messiah
and Sayoshant) (Corduan, 2015). Such influence is likely to have occurred since the Jews and the
Persians are known to have had relations with each other and likely they passed along theological
ideas (Bekhrad, 2017). A second way that Zoroastrianism influenced a religion would have to be
that of Islam (Stepaniants, 2002). Such influence again can be seen with certain parallels between
the two religions, but the method of influence is different. During the Muslim conquests that
occurred in the Middle Ages, one of the consequences was that they gained power

Frostburg State University-Personal Narrative Analysis
A lot of people have life lessons or events that have changed them somehow. I have a very
petrifying experience that changed how I see things. I was about ten years old when this
happens my family and I were going on a trip to Frostburg State University. It was a Friday after
school, I had to pack the night before, so we could leave right after I got off the bus, I remember
not being very excited about going nor were my brothers. My parents were very excited though
because it was the college that they both graduated from. I had no desire in going because I was
only ten at the time, so I did not need to be visiting colleges, or going to more school on my
weekend. We were just doing this for my parents, this obviously meant a lot to them. I don t have
much recognition of the ride up because I slept the majority of the it.... Show more content on

Getting close to the campus, I was very bored(participial) along with my brothers, the whole family
was getting tired. Finally, we arrived at the campus it was dark now, it was nice I just didn t think
much of it. We dove around for a bit and finally we stopped at Gunthers, an old hotel(appositive). It
was a very eerie place, one of the creepiest places I have ever been too, it was like a ghost town. We
got our room key and began walking to our room, it had dead animals, and creepy baby dolls
behind glass displays, flickering lights, also zero other people in there. I did not like the feeling of
the place at all. When we arrived at our room, a blast of frigid air hits me in the face. It had a
mysterious smell too it, I did not like it at all so I went to bed immediately so I could get out of
there as soon as possible. We woke up around eight in the morning. We were headed to a place

Mobile Phones And Its Impact On Modern Society
The modern society is living in the communication age, and not only PCВґs, common phones and
ordinary mail service provides communication between people. Nowadays services such as internet
access, common messages (SMSВґs) and social network messages like WhatsApp, video callВґs,
geo location, common calls, etc. are activities that have been evolved more and more over time
through modern mobile phones, which can provide all these services with the advantage of
mobility, becoming extremelly attractive to the public. A recent article published by the website
Smartinsights (1) concludes that all activities related with the use of mobile phones by the public as
communication method have experienced rapid growth, surpassing even the use of the traditional
methods like PCВґs. In relation to the mobile phones market and how the number of devices sold
is increasing every year, an article published last year by the website Statista (2), suggest that
total of mobile devices sold worldwide from 2007 to 2014 was 1,244.89 million units, and sales
growth is expected in 2015. It also describes the prediction of global mobile phone shipments from
2010 to 2019, making it clear that the increase in sales and user will continue the next years (3).
Considering the previous information, it is not too difficult imagine that some important data for
the final user, stored on the mobile phone memory can be deleted accidentally (for instance from a
device physically damaged, manually data deleted, etc.),

Boeing the opportunity to develop and manufacture new products. The company became a major
producer of small turbine engines during this time up to the late 1960s. Those types of engines

Racial Segregation In Birmingham, Alabama
Birmingham, Alabama was described by King to be probably the most thoroughly segregated city
in the United States and was heavily impacted by racial discrimination. The city was in need for
change, the failure in previous desegregation campaigns did not benefit the predominant racism that
occurred in Birmingham. In 1963, Birmingham had a population of almost 350,000 people, 60%
white and 40% black meaning white dominated in numbers. Racism occurred everywhere,
Birmingham had no black police officers, firefighters, sales workers in department stores, bus
drivers, bankers or even store cashiers. Segregation was dominant in Birmingham whilst racism

One devastating outcome of desegregation in Birmingham was the bombing of the 16th street
Baptist church. On September 15th, 1963 a bomb exploded in the church before a morning
service. This racially motivated attack shocked the nation, injuring 22 people and killing four
young girls (Refer to image) . This church was predominately used by black citizens whilst also
being used for a meeting place for current civil rights activists. This act of terriosm was pursued by
four members of the Ku Klux Klan. Attacking as a result of desegregation, highlighted how racism
was still evident and discrimination was still an predominant issue. Desegregation of Birmingham
had different outcomes relating to white and black civilians. Majority of white people reacted to
desegregation negatively which had an outcome of bombings related to desegregation resulted in
Birmingham gaining the nickname of bombingham . Though the segregation of Birmingham

  • 2. The Life Of The World By Fr. Alexander Schmemann For the Life of the World authored by Fr. Alexander Schmemann an Orthodox priest was originally intended as a study guide in the 1970 s for students preparing themselves for Missionary work, giving them a world view , helping to speak about Christian view points along with an approach to how they coalesce through the eyes of the Orthodox Church. A key theme Fr. Schmemann discussed is Secularism, which he believes developed from our progressive alienation of the Christian culture. Additionally, he presents his interpretation of the transforming biblical themes of creation, fall, and redemption through a sacramental understanding. Fr. Schmemann s experiences within the Orthodox Church liturgy reveal unity in the meanings of these three themes. It is through these understandings he believes can effectively offset the disastrous effects of secularism while revitalizing the sacramental understanding of the world. The author divided the book into seven chapters, each building upon one another; The Life of the world, The Eucharist, The Time of Mission, Of Water and the Spirit, The Mystery of Love, Trampling Down death by death, and Ye Are Witnesses of These Things. Moreover, two Appendices follow the chapters: Worship in a Secular Age and Sacraments and Symbol. In particular, Fr. Schmemann opens by converging on the ostensibly minor theme of nourishment, even quoting famed philosopher Ludwig Feuerbach s phrase. Man is what he eats. Anti religious groups attempt to portray ... • 3. Comparing Language In The Cask Of Amontillado And The Lady A writer s craft of the English language, is like a spiders web, beautiful and unique. It is necessary so the story can be woven in to create a masterpiece. The author can change the story entirely by changing the way the narrator speaks. In The Cask of Amontillado , The Scarlet Ibis , and The Lady, or the Tiger , each craft of language provides a vivid background for the story to unfold. The way each writerprovides certain vocabulary, and way of speaking enhances the reader s experience by giving the reader a chance to guess the time period. Readers also guess the area the story is taking place by using their knowledge that different regions in countries have different slang. The way the narrator speaks and which vocabulary they use creates... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Near the beginning of the story, the narrator talks about their neighbor Miss Leedie, who was in love with President Wilson and wrote him a letter every day (416). While talking about Miss Leedie, the author seamlessly tells the setting of the story. President Wilson served in America from 1913 to 1921 and it is mentioned that he was the president during this short story. Later in the story, the narrator mentions the barn loft was covered with a film of Paris green (418). Paris green was used by Americans around the 1900s. The tone of the story starts out nostalgic, telling events that happened when the narrator was younger, but then later the tone turns into a more regretful and guilty voice, for pushing the younger brother past his limit. You can tell this by looking at the beginning, and seeing how the narrator was so happy when his brother was born. The narrator then gets greedy and selfish, making the younger brother feel bad about himself. Aw, come on, Doodle, I urged. You can do it. Do you want to be different from everybody else when you start school? Does it make any difference? It certainly does, I said (422). The determination to have a normal brother grows, and you can see this when the narration is more about the wants of the narrator instead of how happy he is to have a brother. Time was short, and Doodle still had a long way to go if he was going to keep up with the other boys when he started school (422). The whole story evolves when the author makes the narrator s heart harden and saying that the younger brother was more and more flawed. The author crafts his story so that you have to think, instead of just telling you the purpose of the story, enhancing the experience of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Inhofe that english should be the official language of the nation. What convinced me that english should be the official language nation is when he said Speaking English is a guaranteed way for new immigrants to succeed in school, increase their career options. This statement convinced me the most because it can force the immigrants to learn a new language for their own good. For example if a refugee came to america he/she would already know english so they would get a better life or opportunities. A scholarship would be an opportunity because if you were a kid when you came to america it would be easier to understand and speak the language fluently and not have difficulties even if your intelligent. • 7. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Essay A 54 year old patient named Rod suffered from severe depression since the age of 17. He tried many combinations of therapy and medications for over 2 decades with no success, however, at the age of 53, Rod went to the Calabasa TMS Center for a three week TMS treatment, and his depression was greatly improved. Now, he still attends therapy and a routine TMS treatment, and his depression is cured. He spoke of the treatment in an interview with the center, TMS has eliminated the depression and allowed me to be awake and alive (Success Story). Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an alternative treatment to medication for severely depressed persons that uses magnetic currents to simulate the brain, thus treating depression symptoms (Fawcett). The Calabasas TMS Center, and many other TMS centers, provide many stories of patients who responded well to treatment, like Rob (Success Story). Overall, TMS is a successful treatment option for the majorly depressed who have not responded to prior treatment. After researching the options available, I signed her up for a tryout with a local club, Vancouver Swim Club (VSC). Once complete, Meghan was assigned to the novice instructor, with the suggestion that she swim at least three times a week, and improve her proficiency with the required strokes. Over the next four years, she trained, and improved her skills, while I had the opportunity to grow in many areas in the larger VCS support organization. VSC is a non profit organization, and uses a board of directors to establish coaching rates, approve the operational budgets, and provide guidance on the strategic plan for the club. Being the secretary would mean responsibility for the meeting minutes, and related correspondence. It was through my work on the board, that I began to take an interest in the fee structure, and did a competitive analysis of other swim clubs in the area. The 2008 global financial crisis had led VSC to hold coaching rates steady, and halt all raises for the paid team of coaches. But by 2011, the club was growing, and the local economy had stabilized enough that a change in the rates would be warranted. In addition to the fees paid for coaching, VSC receives operating income through different fund raising activities. The fund raising options could vary each year, but the largest event was the annual swim meet held at the VSC pool in January. At this three day event, over 400 swimmers from the north west would compete against swimmers from 12 or more clubs. For each event that a swimmer enters, VSC receives a portion of the fee, plus proceeds from the sale of food, clothing, and the event program would be returned to the club. • 9. What Are The Similarities Between North And South Korea The two governmental structures that I have chosen to analyse are those of North and South Korea. Despite being in very close quarters their governmental structures differ greatly. North Korea is a Communist state with a one man dictatorship (CIA World Fact Book), South Korea on the other hand, is a republic democracy(CIA World Fact Book). North Korea is the subject of one supreme leader, Kim Jong un. The executive branch involves the head of government, Premier PAK Pong Ju and vice premiers, and the cabinet also known as Naegak both are elected by the Supreme People s Assembly (SPA) (CIA World Fact Book). The SPA is North Korea s rubber stamp legislature , with 687 delegates (Inside North Korea s Supreme People s Assembly, 2015 ), they come under the legislative branch and are also known as Ch oego Inmin Hoeui. The Judicial branch is headed by The Supreme Court, here the judges are chosen by the SPA. Despite this three way division of power, balance and checks have no meaning in North Korea a country characterised by a one party dictatorship (Understanding North Korea, 2012). The quote states as followed, There is something demoralizing about watching two people get more and more crazy about each other, especially when you are the only extra person in the room. It s like watching Paris from an express caboose heading in the opposite direction every second the city gets smaller and smaller, only you feel it s really you getting smaller and smaller and lonelier and lonelier, rushing away from all those lights and excitement at about a million miles an hour (Plath 110). Plath uses this quote to encapsulate the true feelings of the main character and her struggles with social conformity. It is obvious that Esther Greenwood is directly inspired by Plath herself. The many similarities include their pseudonyms, the absence of a father, their young age, and their high level of intelligence. The only major difference is Esther s suicideattempt was fortunately unsuccessful while Sylvia Plath s was unfortunately successful. Plath committed suicide at the age of thirty due to her major struggles of conforming to society. Company giants such as Circuit CityВ® and Merrill LynchВ® have fallen victim to the financial crisis. One of the biggest industries the financial crisis has had an impact on has been the housing market. Everyday newspapers, journal articles, and television media cover stories regarding foreclosures around the country. This is a win win situation because everyone benefits from it: the consumer improves his or her credit worthiness in order to purchase a home at a later time, the banking industry does not lose out on loaned money in either the short or long term, and home buyers will be able to enter an agreement with the lender knowing beforehand that their interest rate will not rise at any point, thus making it affordable. For people who are currently in an ARM, the banking industry should allow them to transfer to a fixed rate loan that allows affordability to the consumer without jeopardizing loss of money on the banking industry. The banking industry should also be flexible regarding requests by its home owners. Some people are beginning to realize ahead of time that eventually they will not able to afford the house they are living in. One solution might be to allow the flexibility such as lowering payments for a specified amount of time such as one or two years. Affordability is the main idea to a homeowner. If a mortgage is affordable, most likely a homeowner will continue to make his or her payments on time and not foreclose on the home. For example, if a person is paying $1,000 per month in mortgage and is not able to afford this amount, by allowing them to reduce their payments to $800 on a two year agreement, the bank will temporarily lose ... Consumer vs. Physicians attitudes toward health products advertising Nowadays many advertisements of health products are placed on many satellite channels. These health products include medications. Accordingly, consumers may perceive these ads in a way that differs from physicians and each would have different attitudes. Previous studies have shown that physicians generally would be opposed to health care advertising for a number of reasons. Alpha waves are typical of states of quiet rest, none particular activity and sometimes when the eyes are closed. Beta waves are typical of states of alertness, attentiveness or active thinking. The underlying plot line in coming of age stories involve the main character, an adolescent, experiencing a pivotal event that changes their point of view on life (Peyette, n.d.). The event marks the adolescent s transition into adulthood. The event can often be referred to as initiation. The stories are thought provoking and interesting to read because they contain numerous underlying messages and themes that can serve as tools to understanding life. In the coming of agestories The Old People , Doe Season , and The Grave the imagery of blood is portrayed in a more positive light in the story focusing on a male character than in the stories focusing on female characters. In the coming of age story The Old People , Ike McCaslin, the main character, is being mentored by Sam Fathers. Sam is a family friend to the McCaslin s who also has a very interesting ethnic background, and he has strong ties to the Native American culture. Ike shot his first deer after chasing a large buck around the forest. Many people plan to do volunteer work while others plan to devote more time to hobbies or special interest (Rathus, 2015). Another question they ask themselves is, How will I afford it? Pensions have been declining lately, layoffs have been rising, and property values have been falling, so many of the older employees have to postpone their plans for retirementor do not even retire (Rathus, 2015). Also, many never know where they will live. The best way to describe lean production is to contrast it to its predecessors: craft production and mass production. Craft production uses highly skilled workers and simple but flexible tools to make exactly what the consumer asks for, one item at a time. The result is that consumers get exactly what they want but at a prohibitively high cost. Mass production uses narrowly skilled professionals to design products made by unskilled or semiskilled workers tending expensive, single purpose machines. The machines produce standardized products in very high volume. Due to the high cost of disruption of the process, the mass producer adds many buffers extra supplies, workers and space to assure smooth production. Also due to high cost of changing over to a new product, the mass producer keeps standard designs in production as long as possible. The result is the consumer gets lower costs but at the expense of variety, and workers tend to find their part of the process boring. Lean production, by contrast, uses teams of multiskilled workers at all levels of the organization, and uses highly flexible, increasingly automated machines to produce large volumes of products in enormous variety. The community purposefully includes monument inscriptions to show an individual s connection to the Holocaust. This action creates tribute to those who were victims of the Holocaust. This practice also creates a collaborative means for the community to mourn over these survivors. What is the role of identity in this process of mourning Holocaust survivors? The Jewish identity is reintegrated among the monuments through Hebrew inscriptions, the Star of David, and ritual practices (Appendix B, Figure 3). Eva Reimers (1999), interprets that a collective group identity is based on the idea of common historical origin (p. 148). This idea is important when analyzing the role of identity in the process of mourning Holocaust survivors. It illustrates that the formation of identity is founded on historical events. Therefore, the Holocaust serves as a historical event, which reinforced the importance of Jewish identity to the Jewish community. The practices of collectively mourning Holocaust survivors serves as an extension over the generations, which reduce the threat death poses to reduction of Jewish identity (Reimers, 1999, p.148). Still today, it is unclear whether the Donner Party resorted to cannibalism as a means of survival. The events have been associated with cannibalism by so many and for so long that the undeclared verdict of the Donner Party is that they did in fact resort to cannibalism. Certainly there are arguments that disagree with this, but it is quite apparent that the party is guilty of anthropophagy. The most common argument against the cannibalism theory is that the party used their basic survival skills; they ate small game rather than each other to stay alive. Despite being a valid point, there are weaknesses with that belief. Early on in their excursion the party quickly exhausted their food supply. Fearing they were in for the worst, the group sent 15 group members out for help and sure enough a snow storm trapped them on November 1, 1846. Any available animals were eaten first and when that food source became scarce, they turned to eating their pets like the family dog. They were enduring extreme starvation after just nine days which lead to important decisions regarding their survival. In other words, a discussion regarding cannibalism had begun (Diamond, 2). The epithet, The Great, attached to his name by writers of the sixteenth century and given to no other English king is another reflection of the kind of ruler he was.1 A twelfth century writer notes the prestige that was given to Alfred when he wrote, He reigned for twenty and eight years; there are few such men living: for he was wise and a good... Both Producers Research and High Grade Living declare He was fully sensible to the advantages of the Installment Plan And had everything necessary to the Modern Man, A phonograph, a radio, a car and a frigidaire. Our researchers into Public Opinion are content That he held the proper opinions for the time of year; When there was peace, he was for peace; when there was war, he went. • 40. The Fusion of Content and Form in Sonnet 29 Essay examples The Fusion of Content and Form in Sonnet 29 One of the most popular of the fixed poetic forms in English literature is the sonnet. Attributed to the Italian poet Petrarch in the fourteenth century, the sonnet is still used by many contemporary writers. The appeal of the sonnet lies in its two part structure, which easily lends itself to the dynamics of much human emotional experience and to the intellectual mode of human sensibility for argument based on complication and resolution. In the last decade of the sixteenth century, sonnet writing became highly fashionable following the publication of Sir Philip Sydney s sonnet sequence Astrophel and Stella, published in 1591. Sonnet sequences were widely read and admired at this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A different rhyme scheme and thus a different convention of logical and rhetorical organization determines the differences between the two sonnet forms. In the Petrarchian sonnet the problem is solved by reasoned perception or a meditative process. The Shakespearean sonnet maintains the basic two part structure of conflict and resolution, now presented in fourteen lines of three quatrains and a concluding rhyming couplet. Each quatrain presents a further aspect of a problem, conflict, or idea. The resolution occurs in the last two of a rhyming couplet, achieved through logical cleverness that summarizes or ties together what has been expressed in the three quatrains. The rhyme scheme, subject to variation, is abab, cdcd, efef, gg in iambic pentameter. The sonnet sequence is a gathering together of a number of sonnets to present a narrative or examine a larger theme. Shakespeare s sequence, like Sydney s, was intended as a series of love poems to celebrate the poet s affections for a young male friend. The poems were collected and published as a sequence in 1609, though initially they were private poems meant for a small circle of writers and friends, not for publication. There are 154 sonnets in the sequence. Some scholars speculate these are ones that remain from a longer work, thus accounting for the sonnet s problems in chronology, thematic development, and connections between individual poems. Other scholars speculate that not all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Voice From A Birdcage The Voice from a Birdcage A brave woman sang a sombre song from inside a birdcage in the late 19th century. As a novelist and also a well known feminist, Charlotte Perkins Gilman fearlessly spoke up about her conception, freedom, in her masterpiece, The Yellow Wallpaper . She proposed big issue divorce around that time. In this semi autographical story, she describes her conflict of marital discord. Gilman intertwines her frustrations about a relationship with her husband and depicts the distress through many symbols, so that people should be aware what genuine happiness as a human being is. Through the relationship between Else and John, Gilman pointed out that females are given a disadvantage by their husbands. For example, she explains that John stands high because of his social status as a physician and a husband. Gilman illustrates this situation through the symbolism of the wallpaper; two breadth didn t match one is a little higher than the other (768). Another example is that Else is eager to live on the first floor because she can see the beautiful garden from the window, but John keeps her on the second floor even though they should move all the furniture from the first floor. Who is willing to carry all the heavy furniture such as a bed, a mattress, a dining table and chairs to upstairs only for three months? John s decision is quite unreasonable. However, John s long absence is the most frustrating for her. John goes out all day, and sometimes he stays in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Importance Of A Comfort Zone As A Resident Assistant... Introduction A comfort zone is a relaxing safe space in which people are familiar with because it causes no anxiety or stress. In life, each of us will be in uncomfortable situations that are outside of our comfort zone. However, we have to be become accustomed in environments that are normally perceived as uncomfortable to experience what others may have to deal with on a daily basis. Additionally, this applies to social workers. We may deal with clients or different situations that are out of our comfort zone. However, we must overcome it to be more aware, as well as completing the job to the best of our abilities. For instance, a strongly devoted Baptist African American male may be uncomfortable attending a LGBT Pride parade due to his beliefs. Nonetheless, this experience may change his perspective on individuals from the LGBT community and cause him to not be as biased or judgmental. This paper will entail my personal experience of being outside of my comfort zone as a Resident Assistant for the University of Texas at Arlington. As a Resident Assistant, my job is to create a fun, on campus living experience for residents in a co ed residence hall while hosting academic, life engaging, social, and/or inclusive programs for them to attend. At that time most within the area of Persia followed the various deities of the Irano Aryan religion, however, Zarathustra brought up a different faith system (Bekhrad, 2017). His belief system firstly placed emphasis on the idea of monotheism (as opposed to the polytheism of Irano Aryan religion) since he felt there was only one god named Ahura Mazda who was worthy of their worship (Bekhrad, 2017). While the concept of monotheism was the central point within Zoroastrianism, other theological aspects which were present in his religious thought includes Angra Mainyu (the evil spirit who in some aspects was like Satan), heaven and hell, and a collection of scripture called Avesta (Corduan, 2015). Zoroastrianism had a strong influence on other religious movements and played a role in part in shaping the theology which they held (Bekhrad, 2017). The first example of this would have to be with regards to the Jewish religion since it shows many parallels with Zoroastrianism s beliefs (Bekhrad, 2017). Such examples of these similarities would have to include that of monotheism (God and Ahura Mazda), the idea of a collection of scriptures (Torah and Avesta), and belief in upcoming messianic figures (the Messiah and Sayoshant) (Corduan, 2015). Such influence is likely to have occurred since the Jews and the Persians are known to have had relations with each other and likely they passed along theological ideas (Bekhrad, 2017). A second way that Zoroastrianism influenced a religion would have to be that of Islam (Stepaniants, 2002). Such influence again can be seen with certain parallels between the two religions, but the method of influence is different. During the Muslim conquests that occurred in the Middle Ages, one of the consequences was that they gained power ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
