Student Behavior Change
There are trends that have developed among young adults that are quite troubling. Studies from the
Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention show that 70 percent of deaths of ten to twenty
four year olds come by way of automobile crashes, accidental injuries, homicide, and suicide
(Bristol 4). These high numbers are due to the fact that people are making poor decisions that
could have been prevented. Numbers by the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System show that an
upwards of 20% of college students have driven under the influence of alcohol(Johnson 68). This
statistic is especially concerning as many involved are aged below the legal drinking age. The
college years are the time that many students develop good and bad health behaviors. It is only
fitting that an informational health course... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Students and alumni that have taken a physical activity lab in conjunction with the lecture
section have shown a more positive attitude towards physical fitness then those who have just
taken a lecture based course (Esslinger 164). This lab class gives you a more hands on approach
to the information learned in the lecture course. Activities such as nutrition label reading,
various exercise demonstrations as well as behavior change projects can be offered. (McBride

life that you would like to change. This could be anywhere from quitting smoking, to eating your
daily values of fruits and vegetables. The course helps you realize the problem, sets up a very
specific plan to help aid you in your process to fulfilling that goal, and shows you how to track
your progress. This process gives you all the necessary tools and motivation to put you on the right
path for healthier changes in the future. All the student then needs to do is commit to their behavior
change to put it in effect (Esslinger

Analysis Of Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Sonnets Of The...
All literature reflects the values, attitudes and beliefs of the context of construction. Thus, this
means that whenever we study any text, we must develop a deep understanding of how the context
impacts upon the purpose of the texts and the writers intended discourses. The comparative study of
Elizabeth Barrett Browning s sonnets of the Portuguese and Scott Fitzgerald s Pros fiction The
Great Gatsbyallow for a thorough evaluation of the relationship between the texts contexts and
values. Both composers craft arguments on the nature of and value of life itself within the
framework of love and spirituality. Browning, however writes from the perspective of a woman
challenging values of the conventions of the Victorian era. Whilst, Fitzgerald construct s his text as
an indictment on the emerging hedonistic and capitalist creed of 1920 s America the Jazz Age. As
we will move through the texts, the writer s context will influence their discourses and hence the
meaning and significance we derive from each text. Mortality:
Both Gatsby and the sonnets provide commentary on the meaning and value of life itself. The
composers articulate a number of arguments on human mortality and what does and doesn t
constitute a waste of human life. ( I will change the parts I have highlighted)
The Great Gatsby presents most of the characters using immoral and corrupt means to achieve their
American dream. This results in the physical/metaphorical death of a being. Contextually, The Great

such, it becomes a threat the Group may foresee when buyers starts to compare. (Alida,

Analysis Of Toast To Fortunato
A giant is afraid of insects.
This is situational irony because, it is ironic that a person that is a lot bigger than almost
everything, is afraid of little insects that are way smaller than he/she is. That would not be
commonly expected.
A girl is crying. Her best friend says, You re real happy, aren t you?
This is verbal irony because the friend knows that her best friend isn t really happy, and she is
being sarcastic.
After several weeks of 100 degree weather, the forecast is for temperatures in the low 90 s. The

The narrator toast to Fortunato s long life.
This is situational irony because when people toast they are celebrating in a way, and the fact that
the narrator was toasting to it is ironic because he ended up killing him.
Fortunato s jester attire becomes his funeral attire. He is masquerading as a fool, and he is taken
for one.
This is situational irony because, that is the attire that he wears when he fools them into letting him
kill them, so that creates their funeral also.
Montresor implores Fortunato to return and not go any farther, telling him that his health is precious.
This is verbal irony because Montresor is being sarcastic in a way because he really doesn t care
about Fortunato s health because he plans on killing him anyways.

Persian Empire Research Paper
The ancient world was a time of great civilisations and greater rulers, and today it is those of
Greece and Rome that are remembered. But they were not alone in their military conquests and
vast empires; there were many equal to, or perhaps even greater, than them, and it is important not
to overlook the achievements of these peoples who have helped to shape history. The Persian
Empire is one such of these civilisations, rising to prominence in the mid sixth century BCE and
enduring for two hundred years, a small amount of time in which it conquered an impressive
amount of territory. At its height, it controlled a huge swathe of land centred in modern day Iran,
stretching as far north as the Russian border, as far south as Egypt, and as far... Show more content

The efficiency of the Persian Empire s rule over a large area inhabited by people of various
different cultures and traditions was one of its most significant achievements. To maintain order,
the empire was split into approximately twenty areas known as satrapies, each ruled by a satrap,
generally a local of the area. This governmental system enabled large scale taxation to take place, as
each satrap collected money from his area and sent it back to the emperor, something which would
have been near impossible without these regional leaders; collection of tax provided a constant flow
of money to fund the Persian Empire and its operations. Persia also maintained cohesion in its
empire through implementation of a common language for use in all government documents, the
development of standardised weights and official coinage, and the introduction of a single set of
laws to govern the empire in its entirety. Perhaps the most notable achievement of the Persians was
the Royal Road, a highway built by Darius I that allowed prompt communication and intelligence
gathering, and stretched approximately three thousand kilometres across the Persian Empire. With
fresh messengers and horses waiting at stations along this road, a message could be delivered in
seven days where it might formerly have taken three months. The organisation of the Empire meant
that it remained unified and connected with the

The Ethical Implications Of Science And Technology
Science and technology are advancing at an extremely rapid pace, sometimes without regard to
consequences. In the 1950 s Robert Briggs and Thomas King were successfully able to clone
frogs using nuclei from embryonic cells. Then in 1996, Ian Wilmot cloned a sheep named Dolly
from an udder cell of an adult cell. The news of Dolly rocked the world to its core. All types of
people began surfacing with the ethical concerns about its potential uses and terror of what might
come next: humancloning. As reported in the article, Clinton Bars Federal Funds for Human
Cloning Research by CNN, in 1997, President Clinton stopped all federal funding for cloning.
Clinton also called on privately funded researchers to voluntarily implement a temporary
moratorium on human cloning research until our bioethics advisory committee and our entire
nation has had time to... debate the ethical implications (CNN). With scientific discoveries such as
cloning many people rely on the wisdom of repugnance to decide what is right and wrong. The
wisdom of repugnance, which is more commonly known as the yuck factor, is used in arguments to
appeal to our sense of disgust. Some believe that the wisdom of repugnance is an instinctive
negative response to an idea or practice that should be interpreted as evidence for the intrinsically
harmful. Repugnance should not be the sole determining factor when making a judgement, which
is what author Leon R. Kass unjustly bases his against cloning on.

Diversity In California
This week s topic of California becoming such a diverse powerhouse in the U.S and also how
California being such a diverse state plays an important role in the U.S. government . California
is a hybrid democracy which means there are two types of democracies within California s
government. Representative means that we elect of political officials that best represents our
interests. This also happens on a federal level which is why we have various elections throughout
the years that allows us to vote for who we want in Congress, also on who we want to be our

how we want to see our state government run California (The Basics, 3:33). These two democracies

Governor Jerry Brown s new state budget, Latinos are projected to become the largest single
racial/ethnic group in the state by March of 2014 (Hugo Lopez, Mark. 2014). The large increase
in the Latino population over recent years has become such a huge media topic in today s news
because people think that America s immigration policy and laws are too loose and are allowing
people to cross the border illegally. Our current president Donald Trump believes that our
immigration laws are horrible and allows criminals to cross the border into the U.S. which is
making Americans lose jobs and cause crime rates to rise. He stated various time that he wants to
make laws that would prohibit such people from coming over to America. This isn t the first time
that diversity has affected policies that the government has made. An example of this would be

Topic 4
Japanese culture factors influenced the disclosure of financial information
Introduction
Japan is an unique oriental country in many aspects, especially in politics and economy, both
western practices and traditional nationalism are coexisted in this country. The period 1890 1940
was just followed the Meiji restoration, and was typical in the history of Japan, at that time, Japan
was on the way from a feudal country to a capitalistic country, called modernization. Many western
practices were being more and more adopted, however, at the same time, traditional rules still had
strong influences in Japan. Under this background, this report will discuss the Japanese cultural
factors during 1890 1940 that influenced the disclosure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hand in hand, the zaibatsu and government guided the nation, borrowing technology from the West.
Japan gradually took control of much of Asia s market for manufactured goods, beginning with
textiles. The economy structure became very mercantilist, importing raw materials and exporting
finished products a reflection of Japan s relative poverty in raw materials.[2]
Japan emerged from the Tokugawa Meiji transition as the first Asian industrialized nation. Domestic
commercial activities and limited foreign trade had met the demands for material culture in the
Tokugawa period, but the modernized Meiji era had radically different requirements. From the
beginning, the Meiji rulers embraced the concept of a market economy and adopted British and
North American forms of free enterprise capitalism. The private sector in a nation blessed with an
abundance of aggressive entrepreneurs welcomed such change.
Economic reforms included a unified modern currency based on the yen, banking, commercial and
tax laws, stock exchanges, and a communications network. Establishment of a modern institutional
framework conducive to an advanced capitalist economy took time but was completed by the
1890s. By this time, the government had largely relinquished direct control of the modernization
process, primarily for budgetary reasons. Many of the former daimyo, whose pensions had been
paid in a lump sum, benefited greatly

The Core Principles Of Marketing Theory
Thou shalt differentiate , (Fulmer and Goodwin, 1988; Levitt, 1980; MacMillan and McGrath,
1997) refers to a well known acclamation for one of the core principles of marketing theory:
differentiation.
Why does differentiation bear such an importance within the marketing World? To begin with, as
our World, in general, continues to develop and evolve around us, there are many products
introduced the population which can be of the same nature, however possess a bear minimum
difference which may influence us as consumers, to favor it over its enemy. Differentiation is the
first step for effective positioning and the key, which gives consumers more value from their
product.
Perceived differentiation is crucial for branding of a company s product, especially against the
many rival companies, which have very similar products to offer to the same audience (market)
with the potential ability to make or break the company s future prosperity.
Perceived differentiation is an item constructed within consumer attitudes amongst the marketing
metrics spotlight. These metrics assist with carrying out certain measures to benefit branding as
measurement is the company s nervous system , pointed out by Sir Peter Davis when regarding the
emphasis of companies gathering enough knowledge about their consumer preferences.
All of these aspects and guidelines are taken into consideration when branding a certain product to
ensure that superior customer value had been created.

What Is The Vietnam War Essay
As I read though out the many different perspectives on the issue of war between the United States
and Vietnam, my most reasonable conclusion is that I have to consider the Vietnam War as a failure
for the United States.
At the beginning of President Kennedy s administration, he sent Vice President Johnson to Vietnam
on a mission to find evidence, because he wanted to stop the spread of communism. Kennedy kept
sending many American military advisors to Vietnam, but the tyrannical leadership methods of
South Vietnam President Diem made President Kennedy s efforts useless. As the number of beaten

my opinion, Kennedy s reasons for sending military ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

South Vietnam, that he is not going to lose to the spread of communist in Vietnam, nor is he going

the Vietnamese could fight for themselves. However, Johnson s view of not involving in the war
changed drastically after the North Vietnamese torpedo boats attacked the United States destroyers
in the Gulf of Tonkin. As a revenge to this attack, President Johnson approved to counter attack
North Vietnam.
By 1965, North Vietnamese were fully supported by the Soviet Union and China making the
American army to take out even more air support and ground forces into the South Vietnam. This
cost American government tremendous amount of money and lives. North Vietnam, along with the

Current Rate Of Third Semester Pathway Students
As a Data Analyst, I am responsible for assisting in projections and forecasting of enrollment as well
as institutional research projects. This includes use of Excel and R to run statistical analyses in
answering enrollment and research questions. Key to projecting enrollment is a file we use called
the Decision Model We track various aspects of enrollment to help predict future enrollment. For
example, we track the amount of third semester pathway students since they will likely be
matriculating into the Online Degree Program. We also track the percentage of third semester
students who have historically matriculated. This way we can apply the same percentage to the
current rate of third semester Pathway students to estimate new online students. This same
principle is applied all throughout the decision model, enrollment is broken out into categories of
different students and indicators that can help predict that category.
Regression analysis is used often to answer research questions. Using R, linear regression helps to
shed light on the effects of any number of factors into college success. In addition, I have been
able to use skills from excel courses on a regular basis to create charts and graphs as well as
prepare and analyze spreadsheets. Finally, the principles of thinking like an economist often
contribute to projects that I worked on. Mostly when I ve needed to understand why students are

George W Bush Speech Analysis
The terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centers that took place on 11 September 2001 will never
be forgotten among American citizens. The complete destruction of the Twin Towers and the
massive death toll of the attacks left the United States in a widespread panic. On 14 September
2001, President George W. Bushstepped up and delivered a speech later titled the Remarks at the
National Day of Prayer and Remembrance Service. President Bush proved that he was the leader
that the United Statesneeded at this extremely difficult time. Bush delivered this speech to his
fellow Americans in an attempt to calm the panicking nation. President George W. Bush
achieved his purpose through the speech s structure, his word choice, and his use of the
rhetorical devices of anaphora and repetition. The structure of President Bush s speech was a
crucial aspect in getting his points across to his fellow Americans. At the beginning of the speech,
Bush addresses the events that occurred three days earlier. He does not ignore the great losses of
the country or what the country is feeling. Instead, Bush acknowledges the types of casualties and
offers sympathy to the Americans that are suffering in the second paragraph. Bush focuses on the
negatives of September 11 and gets those sorrowful topics out of the way early when he says, War
has been waged against us by stealth and deceit and murder (Par. 3). In the middle of the speech,
Bush focuses on God and the strength of the United

Daniel 6: 6 10
Background: Daniel 1 10 (Explain who the Satraps and Administrators are and how Daniel was one
of them but when then had came up with the plan to make it wrong to pray to anyone but the king
the decided to attack connection with his God.) Will write in this part... Soon...
Introduction of Points:
Prayer is the most power thing you have in your toolbox. There are so many things you can do
true this thing we call prayer. Prayer can get you out of trouble even when people are trying to
put in you trouble. As we look at our text today we see that now the administrators and people
over power over the land have produced a law that makes it basically illegal to pray to anyone other
then kind Darius for 30days. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He knew that no matter what was going on at the governmental level, he knew what was going
on that the Godly level was more powerful. Today we live in world were things have never
happened before, we have leaders much like the satraps and administrators. The person in
charge of the United States is signing orders and laws that don t make any sense are often times
they do not line up with we as follower of Christ believe. But how many times to we look at
these things and immediately turn off the TV and pray about them like we ought ton as Daniel
did? The passages tell us that when he knew the word knew in the tense lets me know that he
found out fairly quickly and being as how he was an administrator he would have known almost
instantly. But he didn t call his buddies to complain but he decided to go to God in prayer.
Application:
When you have conversations with people they don t mean anything all to often we want to call
up people a gossip and just talk about our problems but that does not yield anything you still
must go back to what you were doing before the situation occurred, but when you talk to God that
is a conversation that has power. That is a conversation that has some backbone, you can pray to
King Darrius if you want to but what is he going to do about and plus he can t hear them all, But
God hears every prayer and cad do something about it!

Before the sandy hook shooting, there were many cases where mental illness was tied with the
cause of horrible events. In no way am I saying that those who are mentally disordered are bad
people, but rather the opposite. They are individuals who need extra help in certain areas of
functioning, and frankly, there wasn t much of an effort in providing the help they needed.
However, the sandy hook shooting acted as a catalyst in getting people to actually do something
about it and provide care to those who need it. This provided care has been a blessing to
individuals I know personally who have needed extra help, as well as their families. About a few
weeks before the new town shooting, my best friend s older brother was beginning to become
mentally unstable and started becoming violent, which was highly unlike him. They went to get
him examined by doctors but the doctors refused to examine him. After the shooting, the doctors

steadfast effort to get him treatment. Sandy Hook helped lead to a wider range of treatment for
mentally ill individuals that has been a blessing to

Unit 3 Film Analysis
The best use of 3D in films comes when a filmmaker is trying to absorb the audience into a
different world. Scorsese s *Hugo* leads the audience into Scorsese s magical and whimsical
Paris with a gorgeous train staton. *Coraline* draws the audience into Coraline s disturbing
alternative life. *Avatar* literally creates a separate world and realizes it with 3D. Marvel s
*Doctor Strange*, while not equal in overall cinematic quality to these films, uses 3D incredibly
well to align the audience with Doctor Strange and experience the kaleidoscopic other dimensional
worlds of the film. These extraordinary moments of 3D stand in stark contrast with the flatter,
more ordinary world Doctor Strange used to live in before he became a sorcerer/guy with a beard....

In it, physical objects can be twisted, distorted, and re shaped in *Inception* on steroids ways.
The opening scene of the film shows off this dimension before even introducing the main
character. The Ancient One (Tilda Swindon) and Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen) are battling in this
mirror dimension. Just like how *Avatar* and *Hugo* start with shots that show off their 3D,
this scene essentially screams its use of 3D. Buildings rotate and bend in front of the audience.
Shatter patterns and cracks in space appear in front of the screen. Streaks of magical power and
broken bits of building fly out. The camera tilts, rotates, and pans, flipping the entire world (and
the audience) on its side. The audience can t help but be aware of (and, the filmmaker hopes,
awed by) the spectacle they are witnessing. It s a mind bending opening that draws in the viewer
not only does it tell the audience that this is a 3D film, but it also indicates what visuals, effects,
and patterns to expect from the film, even as it cuts to the comparatively mundane and flat surgeon

Analysis of Shall I Compare Thee to a Summers Day, First Love and Let Me Not
Shall I compare thee to a summer s day is written by William Shakespeare and it is about him
describing a person. It is most likely to be a lover because he is using language which is more
generally associated with love. In the first two lines he say s that Shall I compare thee to a
summers day? He also says you are lovelier and more temperate. He is saying that you are even
nicer than a summer s day and a nice person who is evenly tempered. He then uses references to
the darling buds of maie, these tell us that they are beautiful and a sign that summer is on its way.

First Love is a poem written by John Clare, and straight away just by looking at the title we know
what this poem is about. He uses very strong and powerful language in the first verse of the
Sonnet and he is talking about how in love he is. In the first line he says that I never was struck ,
almost as if he was hit by love, even though we know he doesn t mean the literal term of being
hurt by this. He was struck by love at first sight which struck suddenly and so sweet . He is
describing her beauty and saying that it is like a blooming flower which stole his heart almost as if
his heart could be taken away from his body and be a separate part of him.
He then goes on to say in lines five to nine to speak about the effect of her beauty on him. His
face turned pale almost a deadly pale and his legs refused to walk away . He is transfixed with
her and cannot move. His life and all seemed to turn to clay. In the second verse he is saying that
all the blood is rushing to his face and took his sight away. He is blushing which takes away his
sight. He is blinded by love. We know that he cannot see because he goes on to say the trees and
bushes round the place seemed midnight at noonday. Even though it is midday it seems like it is
midnight because he can t see anything.

Design Of User Interface Design Essay
User Interface Design User interface design is the design of user interfaces (UI) for machines
and software, used on computers, smartphones, and any other electronic device. The goal of a
user interface is to maximize a user s ability to access all necessary components of the intended
application or website with less effort exerted by the user; as a developer you want to create
something beautiful that somebody with any previous experience of interfaces would be
capable of using. Using an interface should be an enjoyable experience, the user shouldn t be
stressed out or annoyed by UI, and its inability to present the necessary information in an
aesthetically pleasing and efficient manner. There are no steps to design that are set in stone,
but crucial things that should be considered are: Who are you designing for? What do they do?
Why do they need to product? Research is vital. Make a list of the goals you want the UI to
accomplish and decide upon your minimal viable product (MVP), or a product that meets the
minimum requirements needed. Less is more. Start Simple. People get confused when too much
is presented. Make it crystal clear so there is absolutely no confusion for the user. It s about the
people you re building the product for. Always go back to the original purpose of the interface,
even when you think you have a perfect design. Always make sure you can t make it better to
accomplish the goals you originally had for the interface. Iterate often to get the best

Have you ever noticed that athletes wear new colours all the time? Well, recently many elite
athletes have been sporting the colour orange, orange as in prison jumpsuits, because that s where
they are heading, off to jail for committing offences that are definitely not up to an acceptable
standard of professionalism.
Good evening ladies, gentlemen, adjudicators and the opposition. The topic of tonight s debate is
that elite athletes demonstrate acceptable standards of professionalism. We, as the negative team,
strongly disagree with this. By now our first speaker would have convinced you that elite athletes

These so called elite athletes are so professional , then why do we even have the need for drug
testing? If elite athletes demonstrated an acceptable standard of professionalism, then there would
be no need for this drug testing business because the athletes would be able to be trusted. As our
first speaker has stated, elite athletes have a winning mindset. This could be one of the reasons
they choose to use as an excuse for taking drugs and cheating, to be the best all the time, because
that it how they were brought up. A study shows that doping prevalence may be as high as 48%.
Even before elite level they take low level drugs such as: pre workout drugs, Anabolic steroids,
Androstenedione, Human Growth Hormone (HGH), Erythropoietin, Diuretics, Creatine and
Stimulants. These drugs are so harmful, yet so many are constantly using them. What kind of
imprint is this making on our youth, the young, impressionable minds of today, that look up to
these elite athletes as their role models? This brings me on to my next point, regarding why athletes
need the good behavioural contracts to stipulate their behaviour.
Why do elite athletes need good behavioural contracts to stipulate what they can and can t do? If
their professionalism was to an acceptable standard, then they would already know what they can
and can t do. Many of the behavioural contracts have clauses that stipulate that the elite athletes may

The American Heroes COLA Act came into fruition on Wednesday April 19th, 2012. The House
Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs (DAMA) agreed to
pass two bills that affect veterans benefits. There is slight doubt that under present law, veterans are

Legislature has voted for, and the sitting president has authorized, a bill that guarantees that
veterans disability payment and survivors dependency and security reimbursement increases on
Dec. 1 by the same percentage as Social Security. American Heroes Cola Act would requires the
Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs to automatically increase the rates of veterans

Creativity And The Mad Genius
Creativity and the Mad Genius On July 2, 1961, Ernest Hemingway put a gun to his head.
Seventy one years earlier, on July 29, 1890, Vincent van Gogh shot himself in the abdomen
while painting a wheat field. Robin Williams hung himself on August 24, 2014, less than two
centuries after Vincent van Gogh. Along with Ludwig von Beethoven, who died of natural
causes in 1827, four of the greatest creative minds each suffered from bipolar disorder,
depression, or epilepsy, usually suffering from other physical ailments as well. Ernest
Hemingway was the only one to seem to have a genetic disposition towards mental illness. None
of these men led similar lives. Van Gogh only saw one of his paintings sold, while Beethoven
was an acclaimed composer by the age of twenty nine. Hemingway was friends with some of the
greatest literary minds of the day, and Robin Williams was one of the most successful comedians
to date. The common link, besides their mental illnesses, is the idea that each of these men were
searching for something more within their respective arts. Four fields of fine arts that require the
constant creation of something new claimed the lives of four men who gave it all they had, some
losing, and some finding themselves along the way. Over the past sixty years, facts about
depression and the reality of it have come to light; however, there are still negative stigmas
concerning the mental illness and how people ought to endure through the pain. Despite these

Storyboarding In The Film Industry
Chapter 1 what are storyboards to the film industry?
Before considering this line of enquiry, it is appropriate to provide a brief background into the
history of what storyboarding is and why it is so important. The concept of telling a story through
a series of sequential drawings actually goes back to the time of cave men, when they drew
themselves stampeding cattle. The storyboarding process can be very time consuming and
intricate. Many large budget silent films were storyboarded but most of this material has been lost
during the reduction of the studio archives during the 1970s. The idea of storyboarding was
developed at the Walt Disney Studio during the early 1930s. Disney has credited animator Webb

The colour story is when the matter of the colour of the film can change from one scene to
another and with this they need to discuss the changes in hue, saturation, brightness that is
reflected in the environments and characters. So they would need to discuss what the colours
would be when there is a change in mood so they would talk about the type of colour palettes
they would use and then how it would change the atmosphere if they shift the colour palette. For
instance it may depend on the setting and the world within which the story takes place; time
period, location of it. Therefore the colour palette of the film will largely be dictated by these
elements. For examples if you think about the original The Wizard of Oz film from 1939 where
the film starts in black and white and becomes colour as Dorothy reaches Oz, indicating her
moving into a new world. Now if we look at a scene from The Dark Knight (2008) film this scene

Chinese Culture And Pain Perception
Chinese Culture and Pain Perception
Kyla Chambers
Vancouver Career College
Chinese Culture and Pain Perception The purpose of this paper is to explore the effects of the
Chinese culture on pain perception, responses and management. Cultural backgrounds can have a
significant role in how a person perceives and copes with their pain, many studies have identified
the vast difference between cultures. Culture shapes many aspects of the experience of pain,
including pain expression, lay remedies, social roles, expectations, perceptions of the medical
system, when/how/where to seek care, healthcare practices, illness beliefs and behaviors, and
receptivity to medical care interventions (Campbell, 2012)
Describe different natures of pain (physical, emotional)
Pain is much more than a physical sensation caused by a specific stimulus. An individual s
perception of pain has important affective (emotional), cognitive, behavioral, and sensory
components that are shaped by past experience, culture, and situational factors. The nature of the
stimulus for pain can be physical, psychological, or a combination of both. (Potter, Perry, Stockert,
Hall, Peterson, 2014 p. 141) As stated by Potter et al, the different natures of pain are dealt with
differently depending on many factors. Knowing this, treating pain can be very difficult as there is
no single or clear cut way of measuring it; Even though the assessment and treatment of pain is a
universally important health care issue,

An Incident At Johnny A s Third Rail Pub
This claim arises out of a lawsuit filed in Kane County, Illinois involving an incident at Johnny A s
Third Rail Pub, a local pub owned by the Insured, Beslidheje, Inc. Mr. Tefik Ashiku owns and
operates the Insured corporate entity. The pub operates out of a building owned by the co
defendant, Junaid Zubairi. Plaintiff s lawsuit alleges negligence against both Beslidheje, Inc. and
Zubairi, claiming that the stairwayhad insufficient or inoperative lighting at the time she fell.
We have had further discussions with Mr. Ashiku, Mr. Zubairi, and Ms. Kristen Finkensher, the
bartender on duty on the night of the occurrence. Their statements are consistent with the facts
stated in our prior report. In short, on the night of the incident, the City of South Elgin was hosting
its annual festival, Riverfest, near the pub. There were light towers located throughout the festival
grounds, which illuminated the surrounding buildings, including the pub. Plaintiff came into the
pub, ordered one beer and, at some point, left the pub. An unknown patron then alerted Ashiku and
his bartender that Plaintiff had fallen near the bottom of the stairs. Plaintiff refused assistance from
the bartender including an offer to call an ambulance and left in a vehicle driven by her friend.
The lights above the stairs were functional and the village s light towers brightly illuminated the
stairs. The bartender described the plaintiff as being about 5 8 tall and weighing about 300 pounds.

characters make the film worthwhile. The actors and visual effects that the director decided to

script of Get Out, is an essential element to the film because it is what makes it worthwhile. The

Stray Cats Collaboration
Today I met with a volunteer from the Cat Network, an organization that spays and neuters stray
cats in South Florida. The volunteer, Ibis, is currently volunteering at the adoption center, a
place were people looking to adopt a pet can find cats in need of homes. She takes care of the cats
by cleaning their cages and making sure they are well fed. She also lets them out of their cage
sometimes to play and get exercise.
When asked why the Cat Network is needed in our community she says that South Florida is
currently dealing with a massive overpopulation of stray cats. This overpopulation has continued to
expand in size and will only get worse through the years. Stray cats live hard and dangerous lives
in the streets and their lives can get even worse if they get pregnant. Cats can get pregnant the
moment they turn 4 months, meaning they can give birth when they re only 6 months old. And
cats don t just have one or two babies; they have litters. Typically, a cat has around 4 to 6 babies
in a litter. Finding stray cats and spaying, vaccinating, and then releasing them saves them from
living even worse lives. It also decreases the amount of stray cats living in the area since the cat ...

The Impact Of Genes On A Person
The impact of genes on a person is a well known assumption among people who study genetics.
When you think about it, who we are and how we act is based off of our genetic makeup.
Behavioral genetics studies the inheritance of behavioral traits. There are some people who are
just nice and easygoing people while others behave in an unmoral way or are considered anti
social. Behavior geneticsis that branch that is trying to figure out what factors play a part in how
people act and what genes lead to diverse array of behavior. Not only could genetic information be
inherited by a person s parent but how much of their behavior is also determined by the
environment, such as their living conditions, the people they surround themselves with, and other
influences that may surround them. Behavior genetics environmental factors can be separated into
two categories, shared and nonshared. Shared environment can be considered the environment that
is shared by members in the same family, which can include the same parents or socioeconomic
class. Nonshared environment is the one that is exclusive to an individual and incorporates their
own peer group or hobbies not shared with family members. When you read a lot about behavioral
genetics there is a lot of talk about Nature vs. Nurture, with genetics being the nature and the
environment being nurture. Since I feel that a person s behavior can be affected by both I can
understand why this theory goes along with this topic. In order to

Easter Island Case Study Essay
Name of Case Study: Easter Island: A Case Study in Non sustainability (Foot p.11) Key
environmental points: Easter Island is a remotely located island in the South Pacific. The island
was first populated in circa A. D. 400 by a group of travelers from Polynesia. The island, shaped
like a triangle, was positioned 2,000 km from the nearest inhabited land, and 3,200 km from the
closest continental land mass (Foot p. 11). According to David Foot the island originally
supported a great palm forest (p. 12). Sediment cores collected have shown these palm trees to
have been considerable in both height and diameter, actually dwarfing the three foot diameter of
the largest currently existing palm tree (Diamond p. 103). Frost further pointed out how attractive
the island would seem to those early Polynesian settlers, Surrounded by an abundant ocean and
supporting two extinct volcanic craters that contained natural lakes for fresh water, Easter Island
appeared to have many attractive features for human habitation (p. 12 13). The location of Easter
Island just south of the Tropic of Capricorn would have afforded a mild climate similar to the
climate of South Florida. Archeological findings show that this robust population had a diet
consisting of land birds, porpoises, and lithic mulch agriculture. The most intriguing aspect of the
culture of the people of Easter Island, would have to be the multitude of large stone statues placed

Society Exposed In Fahrenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury
One of Ray Bradbury s most popular works is a book titled Fahrenheit 451. The main characters
are Guy Montag (fireman), Clarisse McClellan (antagonist), Mildred Montag (Guy Montag s

develops. Montag has been a fireman for ten years and never questioned the system. He meets
Clarisse McClellan, a girl whom questions the laws of society, and instantly starts thinking about his
purpose in the world. As said on the book itself, Internationally acclaimed with more than 5 million

One of the main differences revolves around Mildred Montag. Throughout the story, Mildred s
life revolves around watching the television walls and swallowing antidepressants. When
Mildred s friends come over, they all watch television, and while they watch, they are bombarded
with the news that a war is going on and that their loved ones are being killed. The group of
women fail to connect to the news and show no emotion. This aspect of the story contrasts in
many ways to present day society. Many outbreaks have occurred in the past two years and
nearly all of the outbreaks occurred because of the loss of loved ones. A few years ago a
shooting in Ferguson, Missouri ignited an outbreak that was known all throughout America. The
black community retaliated with a series of break ins and burning down buildings. While the
characters in Fahrenheit 451 are emotionless when it comes to the death of their loved ones, in
modern society many groups have retaliated to avenge the lives of their loved ones whom were
taken from them. A recurring theme in Fahrenheit 451 is the idea of authoritarianism (the
enforcement or advocacy of strict obedience to authority at the expense of personal freedom).
Authoritarianism has such a huge impact on Bradbury s society that people are desperate to fit in
and follow orders. Evidence in the book shows that Mildred Montag was so deeply affected by
authoritarianism that she turns Montag in to the authorities, for reading books, without any
discussion or concern. Another huge difference from the story and reality revolves around the
usage of book. Books are strictly prohibited in Bradbury s fictitious world. Books are not only
illegal, but are considered so dangerous that firemen are trained to burn any books that are found.
Unlike modern day America, firemen in Fahrenheit 451 are trained to burn books that are found,

All the student then needs to do is commit to their behavior change to put it in effect (Esslinger ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thus, this means that whenever we study any text, we must develop a deep understanding of how the context impacts upon the purpose of the texts and the writers intended discourses. The comparative study of Elizabeth Barrett Browning s sonnets of the Portuguese and Scott Fitzgerald s Pros fiction The Great Gatsbyallow for a thorough evaluation of the relationship between the texts contexts and values. Both composers craft arguments on the nature of and value of life itself within the framework of love and spirituality. Browning, however writes from the perspective of a woman challenging values of the conventions of the Victorian era. Whilst, Fitzgerald construct s his text as an indictment on the emerging hedonistic and capitalist creed of 1920 s America the Jazz Age. As we will move through the texts, the writer s context will influence their discourses and hence the meaning and significance we derive from each text. But they were not alone in their military conquests and vast empires; there were many equal to, or perhaps even greater, than them, and it is important not to overlook the achievements of these peoples who have helped to shape history. The Persian Empire is one such of these civilisations, rising to prominence in the mid sixth century BCE and enduring for two hundred years, a small amount of time in which it conquered an impressive amount of territory. At its height, it controlled a huge swathe of land centred in modern day Iran, stretching as far north as the Russian border, as far south as Egypt, and as far... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The efficiency of the Persian Empire s rule over a large area inhabited by people of various different cultures and traditions was one of its most significant achievements. To maintain order, the empire was split into approximately twenty areas known as satrapies, each ruled by a satrap, generally a local of the area. This governmental system enabled large scale taxation to take place, as each satrap collected money from his area and sent it back to the emperor, something which would have been near impossible without these regional leaders; collection of tax provided a constant flow of money to fund the Persian Empire and its operations. Persia also maintained cohesion in its empire through implementation of a common language for use in all government documents, the development of standardised weights and official coinage, and the introduction of a single set of laws to govern the empire in its entirety. Perhaps the most notable achievement of the Persians was the Royal Road, a highway built by Darius I that allowed prompt communication and intelligence gathering, and stretched approximately three thousand kilometres across the Persian Empire. With fresh messengers and horses waiting at stations along this road, a message could be delivered in seven days where it might formerly have taken three months. In the 1950 s Robert Briggs and Thomas King were successfully able to clone frogs using nuclei from embryonic cells. Then in 1996, Ian Wilmot cloned a sheep named Dolly from an udder cell of an adult cell. The news of Dolly rocked the world to its core. All types of people began surfacing with the ethical concerns about its potential uses and terror of what might come next: humancloning. As reported in the article, Clinton Bars Federal Funds for Human Cloning Research by CNN, in 1997, President Clinton stopped all federal funding for cloning. Clinton also called on privately funded researchers to voluntarily implement a temporary moratorium on human cloning research until our bioethics advisory committee and our entire nation has had time to... debate the ethical implications (CNN). With scientific discoveries such as cloning many people rely on the wisdom of repugnance to decide what is right and wrong. The wisdom of repugnance, which is more commonly known as the yuck factor, is used in arguments to appeal to our sense of disgust. Some believe that the wisdom of repugnance is an instinctive negative response to an idea or practice that should be interpreted as evidence for the intrinsically harmful. Repugnance should not be the sole determining factor when making a judgement, which is what author Leon R. Kass unjustly bases his against cloning on. Leon R. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hand in hand, the zaibatsu and government guided the nation, borrowing technology from the West. Japan gradually took control of much of Asia s market for manufactured goods, beginning with textiles. The economy structure became very mercantilist, importing raw materials and exporting finished products a reflection of Japan s relative poverty in raw materials.[2] Japan emerged from the Tokugawa Meiji transition as the first Asian industrialized nation. Domestic commercial activities and limited foreign trade had met the demands for material culture in the Tokugawa period, but the modernized Meiji era had radically different requirements. From the beginning, the Meiji rulers embraced the concept of a market economy and adopted British and North American forms of free enterprise capitalism. The private sector in a nation blessed with an abundance of aggressive entrepreneurs welcomed such change. Economic reforms included a unified modern currency based on the yen, banking, commercial and tax laws, stock exchanges, and a communications network. Establishment of a modern institutional framework conducive to an advanced capitalist economy took time but was completed by the 1890s. By this time, the government had largely relinquished direct control of the modernization process, primarily for budgetary reasons. Why does differentiation bear such an importance within the marketing World? For example, we track the amount of third semester pathway students since they will likely be matriculating into the Online Degree Program. We also track the percentage of third semester students who have historically matriculated. This way we can apply the same percentage to the current rate of third semester Pathway students to estimate new online students. This same principle is applied all throughout the decision model, enrollment is broken out into categories of different students and indicators that can help predict that category. Design Of User Interface Design Essay User Interface Design User interface design is the design of user interfaces (UI) for machines and software, used on computers, smartphones, and any other electronic device. The goal of a user interface is to maximize a user s ability to access all necessary components of the intended application or website with less effort exerted by the user; as a developer you want to create something beautiful that somebody with any previous experience of interfaces would be capable of using. Using an interface should be an enjoyable experience, the user shouldn t be stressed out or annoyed by UI, and its inability to present the necessary information in an aesthetically pleasing and efficient manner. Seventy one years earlier, on July 29, 1890, Vincent van Gogh shot himself in the abdomen while painting a wheat field. Robin Williams hung himself on August 24, 2014, less than two centuries after Vincent van Gogh. Along with Ludwig von Beethoven, who died of natural causes in 1827, four of the greatest creative minds each suffered from bipolar disorder, depression, or epilepsy, usually suffering from other physical ailments as well. Ernest Hemingway was the only one to seem to have a genetic disposition towards mental illness. None of these men led similar lives. Van Gogh only saw one of his paintings sold, while Beethoven was an acclaimed composer by the age of twenty nine. Hemingway was friends with some of the greatest literary minds of the day, and Robin Williams was one of the most successful comedians to date. The common link, besides their mental illnesses, is the idea that each of these men were searching for something more within their respective arts. Four fields of fine arts that require the constant creation of something new claimed the lives of four men who gave it all they had, some losing, and some finding themselves along the way. Before considering this line of enquiry, it is appropriate to provide a brief background into the history of what storyboarding is and why it is so important. The concept of telling a story through a series of sequential drawings actually goes back to the time of cave men, when they drew themselves stampeding cattle. The storyboarding process can be very time consuming and intricate. Many large budget silent films were storyboarded but most of this material has been lost during the reduction of the studio archives during the 1970s. The idea of storyboarding was developed at the Walt Disney Studio during the early 1930s. Disney has credited animator Webb Smith with coming up with the idea ... The colour story is when the matter of the colour of the film can change from one scene to another and with this they need to discuss the changes in hue, saturation, brightness that is reflected in the environments and characters. So they would need to discuss what the colours would be when there is a change in mood so they would talk about the type of colour palettes they would use and then how it would change the atmosphere if they shift the colour palette. For instance it may depend on the setting and the world within which the story takes place; time period, location of it. Chinese Culture And Pain Perception Chinese Culture and Pain Perception Kyla Chambers Vancouver Career College Chinese Culture and Pain Perception The purpose of this paper is to explore the effects of the Chinese culture on pain perception, responses and management. Cultural backgrounds can have a significant role in how a person perceives and copes with their pain, many studies have identified the vast difference between cultures. Culture shapes many aspects of the experience of pain, including pain expression, lay remedies, social roles, expectations, perceptions of the medical system, when/how/where to seek care, healthcare practices, illness beliefs and behaviors, and receptivity to medical care interventions (Campbell, 2012) Describe different natures of pain (physical, emotional) Pain is much more than a physical sensation caused by a specific stimulus. An individual s perception of pain has important affective (emotional), cognitive, behavioral, and sensory components that are shaped by past experience, culture, and situational factors. The nature of the stimulus for pain can be physical, psychological, or a combination of both. There were light towers located throughout the festival grounds, which illuminated the surrounding buildings, including the pub. Plaintiff came into the pub, ordered one beer and, at some point, left the pub. An unknown patron then alerted Ashiku and his bartender that Plaintiff had fallen near the bottom of the stairs. Plaintiff refused assistance from the bartender including an offer to call an ambulance and left in a vehicle driven by her friend. The volunteer, Ibis, is currently volunteering at the adoption center, a place were people looking to adopt a pet can find cats in need of homes. She takes care of the cats by cleaning their cages and making sure they are well fed. She also lets them out of their cage sometimes to play and get exercise. When asked why the Cat Network is needed in our community she says that South Florida is currently dealing with a massive overpopulation of stray cats. This overpopulation has continued to expand in size and will only get worse through the years. Stray cats live hard and dangerous lives in the streets and their lives can get even worse if they get pregnant. Cats can get pregnant the moment they turn 4 months, meaning they can give birth when they re only 6 months old. And cats don t just have one or two babies; they have litters. • 40. The Impact Of Genes On A Person The impact of genes on a person is a well known assumption among people who study genetics. When you think about it, who we are and how we act is based off of our genetic makeup. Behavioral genetics studies the inheritance of behavioral traits. There are some people who are just nice and easygoing people while others behave in an unmoral way or are considered anti social. Behavior geneticsis that branch that is trying to figure out what factors play a part in how people act and what genes lead to diverse array of behavior. Not only could genetic information be inherited by a person s parent but how much of their behavior is also determined by the environment, such as their living conditions, the people they surround themselves with, and other influences that may surround them. Behavior genetics environmental factors can be separated into two categories, shared and nonshared. Shared environment can be considered the environment that is shared by members in the same family, which can include the same parents or socioeconomic class. Nonshared environment is the one that is exclusive to an individual and incorporates their own peer group or hobbies not shared with family members. When you read a lot about behavioral genetics there is a lot of talk about Nature vs. Nurture, with genetics being the nature and the environment being nurture. Since I feel that a person s behavior can be affected by both I can understand why this theory goes along with this topic. In order to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Easter Island Case Study Essay Name of Case Study: Easter Island: A Case Study in Non sustainability (Foot p.11) Key environmental points: Easter Island is a remotely located island in the South Pacific. The island was first populated in circa A. D. 400 by a group of travelers from Polynesia. The island, shaped like a triangle, was positioned 2,000 km from the nearest inhabited land, and 3,200 km from the closest continental land mass (Foot p. 11). According to David Foot the island originally supported a great palm forest (p. 12). Sediment cores collected have shown these palm trees to have been considerable in both height and diameter, actually dwarfing the three foot diameter of the largest currently existing palm tree (Diamond p. 103). Frost further pointed out how attractive the island would seem to those early Polynesian settlers, Surrounded by an abundant ocean and supporting two extinct volcanic craters that contained natural lakes for fresh water, Easter Island appeared to have many attractive features for human habitation (p. 12 13). The location of Easter Island just south of the Tropic of Capricorn would have afforded a mild climate similar to the climate of South Florida. Archeological findings show that this robust population had a diet consisting of land birds, porpoises, and lithic mulch agriculture. The most intriguing aspect of the culture of the people of Easter Island, would have to be the multitude of large stone statues placed on burial sites called ahu. By the 16th century ... Fahrenheit 451 revolves around Guy Montag s life and shows how he develops. Montag has been a fireman for ten years and never questioned the system. Throughout the story, Mildred s life revolves around watching the television walls and swallowing antidepressants. When Mildred s friends come over, they all watch television, and while they watch, they are bombarded with the news that a war is going on and that their loved ones are being killed. The group of women fail to connect to the news and show no emotion. This aspect of the story contrasts in many ways to present day society. Many outbreaks have occurred in the past two years and nearly all of the outbreaks occurred because of the loss of loved ones. A few years ago a shooting in Ferguson, Missouri ignited an outbreak that was known all throughout America. The black community retaliated with a series of break ins and burning down buildings. While the characters in Fahrenheit 451 are emotionless when it comes to the death of their loved ones, in modern society many groups have retaliated to avenge the lives of their loved ones whom were taken from them. A recurring theme in Fahrenheit 451 is the idea of authoritarianism (the enforcement or advocacy of strict obedience to authority at the expense of personal freedom). Authoritarianism has such a huge impact on Bradbury s society that people are desperate to fit in and follow orders. Evidence in the book shows that Mildred Montag was so deeply affected by authoritarianism that she turns Montag in to the authorities, for reading books, without any discussion or concern. Another huge difference from the story and reality revolves around the usage of book. Books are strictly prohibited in Bradbury s fictitious world. Books are not only illegal, but are considered so dangerous that firemen are trained to burn any books that are found.
