Cameron s Speech On The 2011 Riots
In his speech on the riots, Cameron discounted social conditions such as poverty and unemployment
as reasons for the 2011 riots, and focussed instead on criminality and morality (Andrews, G. 2014).
This essay will compare and contrast this conservative view of the riots with the radical view. A riot is
an occasion involving violence directed at property, persons or authority. The current understanding of
the term riot dates back to the fourteenth century, when it began to suggest violence and disorder
among the population. By the eighteenth century violence and disorder was on the rise in England,
which resulted in Parliament passing the Riot Act of 1715. Conservatism is characterised for their
resistant to change, although when it is necessary, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The discussion on BBC News night highlighted the differences in the conservative and radical views
on the riots. Ian Kinsella described his concern at how the rioters would be controlled going forward.
He described how he pleaded with the rioters to stop, however was chased off and told You re insured
mate, you ll be ok! . Opposite Ian Kinsella was Cody Lachey, a proud mancunion who admitted to
dressing inconspicuously to partake in the looting. Cody Lachey had a change of heart and although
he fully supported the looters, he decided against looting. Kirsty the BBC news reporter pointed out
that Cody Lachey had served in the military overseas in Afghanistan and Bosnia, he also worked as a
security guard for large retailers, she questioned why he doesn t turn the looters in? Cody s response
Because I understand...We live in an impoverished society where people do what they have to do to
feed their families, and that s the life we re living. (The Open University, 2017). Cody s response is
one shared with a high percentage of the rioters, they blamed the crushing effect of poverty, parents
who have to work two or three jobs to make ends meet, parents who have no time for their children,
no childcare, increase intuition fees, closure of youth services and scrapping of education maintenance
and lack of respect from the police. It is believed 59% of those arrested for rioting were unemployed
and conceded their involvement in looting was simply down to opportunism, saying that a perceived
suspension of normal rules presented them with the opportunity to acquire goods and luxury items
they could not ordinarily afford. (Rusbridger, A. 2017). Martin Luther King once defined rioting as the
language of the unheard. This was a radical s view expressed by a youth worker shortly after the 2011

Movie Piracy: Why the Debate Some people have an interest in opening a new business for
themselves. Nowadays, people have ways of making money easily on their own. There are several
ways people do to get money, for example, cab driving, ride sharing, selling food on the street and
opening stores to sell pirated movies. Everyone has their own opinion on pirated movies but the
pirated movie is the illegal duplicate of films for private enterprise or individual use. The use of
movies lacking approval from the author or holder of that press, or to earn such media, by law, and
formulate it available through binder allocate web for different people to use. This form of exercise is
called piracy, also those who act in these applications are known as pirates. Many people like to pirate
movies because there has been a technological advancement and internet therefore connectivity is easy
and accessible, Hollywood movies are expensive and people cannot afford, lack of law enforcement to

movies, lack of strict law enforcement on copywriters in the desire to watch rare and new movies does
not give an individual the authorities to acquire that movie; software or anything illegal means. People

The Causes And Factors For The Trafficking Essay
ROOT CAUSES OF TRAFFICKING Causes and the factors for the trafficking are diverse among
nation to another nation. It includes various social, economic and cultural factors. There are some
common factors like the gender wise more girls are trafficked for forced sexual exploitation which is
seen in many nations. Poverty, armed conflicts, political unrest, lacking enforcement of human rights
and natural disasters etc will increase the trafficking of human. War and internal conflict in nation is
one of the important context which leads to large number of neglected children, orphan children, street
children etc which will increase the chance of many children getting trafficked. Poverty has a close
relation with vulnerability and marginalization of human and is one of the causes for trafficking
among the children. The situation in which parents sell children with positive motive and negative
motive is very common. Parents think of at least saving the child from the poverty they face so that
they sell the children thinking it provides the children more opportunity for development. Gender
based stereotypes among the people which consider females with low value are one among the causes
for trafficking of girls. Girl children are been trafficked for forced prostitution, child marriage etc.
Female infanticide is an indirect cause for trafficking of girls. Most of the places lack females for
marriage and

Constitutional Right to Privacy and the Us Patriot Act...
Privacy Essay
Privacy. What do you think the average American would say if you told them they have no
Constitutional Right to Privacy, as privacy is never mentioned anywhere in the Constitution? That the
information they share over the World Wide Web has little if any protection by or from the
government. Of course our government is hard at work to modernize the form of weeding out the
unsanitary to which some cenacles might call censorship. But the main question still stands, do we
have a right to privacy and is the government violating our natural freedoms, or do we need someone
to monitor the actions of our society to keep order. The question is as old as government; to what
extent should the government influence our lives. When you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is a very debatable topic and many parents have different grounds for the extent of their child s
privacy. Some children are monitored by their parents, correcting every mistake and punishing every
misjudgment. Other parents promote more of a free spirit and trust, to teach their child independence
and develop experiences. Two are differing theories of parenting and both are different theories of
government. One assumes that humans are naturally reasonable creatures and the other that humans
are naturally emotionally driven and unreliable. So the question then goes to nature or nurture, and are
humans reasonable or erratic? So we assume that man is a combination of both good and evil, and in
doing so we assume that some level of privacy is in order but also the government must control those
who diverge from the law. The question then

arises, to what degree should citizens be left to themselves and what degree should they be monitored?
The two extrema of this argument include the State of Nature, which has been previously described,
and what is also known as the Big Brother structure. The idea that if man were molded to be perfect
from birth, they would in turn live perfect lives is an idea that has been philosophized, debated, and
dreamed of for generations of intellectuals. In almost every theorized Utopia, there has been a certain
level of censorship. Censorship in these hypothetical societies exists on the

Producing the First Atomic Bomb
Introduction Uranium is a dense radioactive metal that is used in nuclear reactors. It is found in nature
and has two large isotopes, U 235 and U 238. The energy that is produced in nuclear reactors is from
the splitting or fission of the U 235 atoms. It releases energy in most cases in the form of heat; U 235
is the main splitting isotope of uranium. Uranium enriched is required to be in light water reactors,
which allows controlled nuclear reaction.
Processes for Uranium Enrichment When producing the first atomic bomb, scientists from the
Manhattan Project thought about multiple processes for uranium enrichment, now we have a few that
we use which is Gaseous Diffusion also known as Effusion, Gas Centrifuge, and Laser separation.
Gaseous diffusion is a technology that produces enriched uranium by forcing uranium hexafluoride
through pipelines and then pumped through filters called barriers. This makes it where there is a slight
separation between molecules, which contain uranium 235, and uranium 238. There are hundreds of
barriers because one barrier isn t enough to make uranium hexafluoride gas contain enough U238 that
can be used in reactors. We only have on plant left and it is located in Paducah, Kentucky. The Gas
Centrifuge was made to replace Gaseous Diffusion, it is a device that performs isotope separation of
gases and it s the preferred way because it takes less time, and takes less energy. We have these plants
in New Mexico, Idaho and Ohio. Laser separation is

Defense Against a Cyber Attack with Malicious Code...
The name Malicious Code (Malware) Prevention Plan uses a strategy of defense in depth using
operational, human, and technical controls for effectiveness. Used properly, the technical controls
available to the TVA organization (TVAO) is effective in stopping a majority of malicious code
threats. However, the trusted insider normally has the access needed to turn a threat into an operational
risk. As to external threats, the TVAO can expect a continued pattern of organized criminal
involvement and international espionage to continue to target the weakest link in the security chain:
the human. The defense in depth concept is constructed to rapidly characterize, attribute, and respond
to attacks and is given the name Defense of The Grid System or DTGS. The DTGS provides the
capability to monitor, detect, analyze, and respond to unauthorized activity, as well as unintentional,
non malicious user errors within the iSOC, Tops, and Gen, components of the DTGS. For the DTGS
system and its monitored component systems, must detect attacks and respond quickly (e.g. limiting
access, excising users, or even disconnecting from the network.) The DTGS Interface Control
Document (ICD) addresses five operational capabilities: DTGS defense from cyber attack,
maintaining service while under attack, recovering from cyber attack and reduce vulnerabilities,
monitoring Information Assistance (IA) of the DTGS. Defend the Grid from Cyber Attack This

What Is The Best Sport Essay
I think the best sport is wrestling even though It s probably the least fun sport in the world. I think it s
the best sport because it s a great example of a team that is a brotherhood. I think it s the best sport
because it is an individual sport and the person controls whether he wins or loses and there s nothing
to blame your losses on but yourself. I think it s the best sport because if you want to achieve big
things like being a state champ you have to work hard by yourself and there s no one but you to push
you. I think wrestling is the best sport because it is a great example of a team that is a brotherhood,
because it s an individual sport, and because it shows you what real hard work is.

Wrestling shows you what hard work is because you have long practices that last two to three hours,
and you really don t want to be there but you have to work hard because you remember what your
goals are. All of the weight cutting, long practices, days with no food, drilling after practice, dieting all
week for only one day on the weekend and for what to get a little medal? It seems crazy to me but all
of those days lead up to the big stage which is the state tournament and that s where you get to see if
all the hard work you ve put in is going to pay off of not. For some it s the greatest day of the year, for
others they leave heart broken. Plus it sucks to think that the guy you could face in the state has
worked harder than you. My coach told me that if you work hard enough everyday it will be hard to
quit when the time comes for you to wrestle for a state title. I think wrestling is a true example of hard

Examples Of Parenthood In The Destructors
The lack of parenthood in The Destructors is the primary reason the boys in the gang have the dark
streak that is seen in their endeavors. The effects of war and the class change contribute, but both
ultimately tie back in to the root of the problem the parents. Most boys grow up with a curiosity, a
knack for getting into trouble, and a longing to mess with what they shouldn t; these attributes are
definitely present in the boys in the gang. Children should be raised by parents that teach them right
from wrong so this curiosity, while it may still be present, is contained to a limit that is acceptable.
The problem is that these boys didn t grow up with this type of parenting because they experienced
little to no parenting at all. Their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
is unique in this way because his darkness is deeper than the others, as seen in his fixation with Mr.
Thomas s house. One known fact about T. that is different from the others, is that his family came
down after the war. Specifically, his father went from being an architect to a clerk. This change in
occupation is one reason why T. is so fixated on the house. He is bitter about the war, his father s
demotion, and the class change. He sees that this house survived a war he did not and wants to tear it
down as his family had been. This is seen as T. is giving orders after he assumes leadership in the
destruction of the house. It says that it was as though this plan had been with him all his
life...crystallized with the pain of puberty. (70) The quote fortifies how he wants justice for what he
has been through and that he never got to grow up as a child. He was forced to grow up quicker than
he should have because of the war and his class change. The word pain brings out a sharpness to what
he felt and went through. It provides the reader with a connection to T. that wouldn t be there

Witches Be Thy Enemy
For the greater part of Christianity the popular belief was that magic did not exist and while those who
did were diluted. By the end of the Inquisition there was an estimated 90,000 witch trials occur with
an estimated 50% of them resulting in executions (Levack, The Witch Hunt in Early Modern Europe
1987, 2006, 23). So what dramatic turn did Europe take during the Inquisition? In the late sixteenth
century the great witch hunt was beginning, and this was fueled by the European elites believing that
witches were actively harming their neighbors and conspiring with the Devil against the Catholic
Church. By the middle of the sixteenth century the profile of the witch was well known and the
educated European began to believe in witches (Levack, The Witch Hunt in Early Modern Europe
1987, 2006, 30). What these elite Europeans specifically believed about witches was that they had
created personal pacts with the Devil in exchange for the powers that they obtained. The places where
these pacts were formed were called the Sabbath (originating from the Jewish holy day), this is where
men and women whom practiced witchcraft would gather secretly at night and have relations with the
Devil, demons and each other (Levack, The Witch Hunt in Early Modern Europe 1987, 2006, 40 45).

Modern Cinem Mise En Scene
Mostly spoken about in the world of cinema, mise en scéne also describes aspects in theatre. In the
instance of stage performance, mise en scéne includes all that is present on stage i.e. props, costumes,
lighting, use of space. In Mr. Burns: A Post Electric Play by Anne Washburn paying close attention to
what is present on stage is essential to understanding situation. In The First Act, the script directs there
to be four people around a fire, on a mixed arrangement of indoor chairs, sports or lawn chairs and a
fancy new couch, this set allows the audience to view the scene as something of a fuse of scavenged
materials, making it known that, in this point in civilization, it is essential to acquire anything that is
possible. There is no room for color schemes or meticulously considered arrangements, only
practicality. The Second Act, described as seven years later, calls for a cozy living room, letting the
audience know that progress has been made and it is appropriate to begin to consider aesthetic and
occasional luxury. With this consideration of mise en scéne comes a better understanding of how and
why a scene is presented the way it is. Bildungsroman, relating to that of a novel on formative years,

The Myth Of Epic Of Gilgamesh
Sam Khidir
History 10
Professor Chrissanthos
4 October, 2016
From Myth to Religion The Sumerian myth Epic of Gilgamesh is known to be the oldest written
fictional story of all time. The original script, discovered on 12 clay tablets in ancient Sumeria, covers
the adventures of a real historical figure (Ralph): the Sumarian King of Uruk, who lived sometime
between the years 2750 and 2500 B.C. (Epic) The adventures of Gilgamesh were so popular among
the people of that era (the earliest written versions of the story dating to 2000 B.C.) that after centuries
of being told and retold, they soon became pure fiction. These fictional stories, eventually becoming
beliefs that people lived by, brings up one fundamental question that is still debated by many scholars
today; was the foundation for the teachings of the Old Testament based on the mythical story of
Gilgamesh? The content of the epic, and that of the Old Testament, seem too similar to ignore. This
paper will attempt to touch on the similarities between the two stories regarding Noah and the flood,
Adam, Eve, and eternal life, Samson and Delilah, embracing today and not worrying about tomorrow,
disobedience to the God s and forgiveness, and the word Bible. First, a brief summary of the Epic of
Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh was a Sumerian king who ruled Uruk. As a demi god (part god and part
human), he is both strong and knowledgeable in all things. He rules Uruk with an iron fist, working

The Jean Marie Tjibaou Cultural Center
Introduction
The Jean Marie Tjibaou Cultural Center was built in 1998 in Noumea, New Caledonia in honor of the
New Caledonian Kanak independence leader, who was assassinated in 1989. The Kanak people are
native to the pacific region and account for 41% of the island s populations. (Piano Building
Workshop)
The Center was built as an undertaking by the French Government during the negotiations of
independence from France. The territory of New Caledonia wanted a Kanak Cultural Centre that
would be dedicated to the future development of the culture as inspired by Jean Marie Tjibaou.
(Architectura) In 1990 as part of France s president at the time, Francois Mitterrand s grand travaux or
grand works , an international invitation only tender was established for the project. The scope of the
brief was broad: the design must honor traditional Kanak culture; while at the same time provide a
focal point for the development of the society. (Fondazione). The aim was to ensure that despite
modern developments the Kanak culture would not lose touch with its historical roots.( Fondazione).
In 1991 an international competition was held and Italian architect, Renzo Piano won. A spectacular
location was found on the Tina peninsula against a background of mountains and promontories jutting
out into Magenta Bay, with the capital city of Noumea to the east and open sea to the west.

Embryonic Stem Cell Differentiation
Attainment of the differentiated state during the final stages of somatic cell differentiation is closely
tied to cell cycle progression. Much less is known about the role of the cell cycle at very early stages
of embryonic development. Here, we show that molecular pathways involving the cell cycle can be
engineered to strongly affect embryonic stem cell differentiation at early stages in vitro. Strategies
based on perturbing these pathways can shorten the rate and simplify the lineage path of ES
differentiation. These results make it likely that pathways involving cell proliferation intersect at
various points with pathways that regulate cell lineages in embryos and demonstrate that this
knowledge can be used profitably to guide the path and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is surprising, for example, that mouse and human ES cells appear to be so different with respect to
the molecules that mediate their self renewal, and perhaps even in their developmental potentials.
BMPs, for example, in combination with LIF, promote the self renewal of mouse ES cells. But in
conditions that would otherwise support undifferentiated proliferation, BMPs cause rapid
differentiation of human ES cells. Also, human ES cells differentiate quite readily to trophoblast,
whereas mouse ES cells do so poorly, if at all. One would expect that at some level, the basic
molecular mechanisms that control pluripotency would be conserved, and indeed, human and mouse
ES cells share the expression of many key genes. Yet we remain remarkably ignorant about the
molecular mechanisms that control pluripotency, and the nature of this remarkable cellular state has
become one of the central questions of developmental biology. Of course, the other great challenge
will be to continue to unravel the factors that control the differentiation of human ES cells to specific
lineages, so that ES cells can fulfill their tremendous promise in basic human biology, drug screening,
and transplantation

majority. In the Asch Experiment, the majority of people involved were told to sometimes give the

Madness In Hamlet Analysis
The key theme of madness in Hamlet serves the critical roles of the play, serving to depict the chaos
and turbulence reigning through the lives of all within the play. Characters portraying both feigned
and authentic madness, such as Hamlet and Ophelia, serve pertinent roles displaying the corruption
and destruction of the mind when left alone without a guiding figure, most significantly one in the role
of a father, and restrained without a chance to speak freely. Shakespeare creates a definitive line
between the sane and mad characters within the play, both in dialogue and presence in many scenes. In
the dialogue of both Hamlet and Ophelia in the apex of their madness, as Yi Chi Chen states in his
Pregnant with Madness Ophelia s Struggle and Madness in Hamlet, Other than being pregnant in
madness, Hamlet s and Ophelia s language is also pregnant with madness (Chen 14.) Through this
remark, Chen states that not only is their language sprinkled with puns and dark humor that reflects a
meaning underneath a cover of meaningless remarks, their remarks serve to bring about, the truth that
lies beneath the masquerade like court of Denmark, each in their own ways (Chen 14.) Hamlet, with
his incense towards the marriage between Claudius and Gertrude, serves to utter his disregard towards
this relationship in his biting remarks towards both parties. Ophelia, in her utter dismay at the
rejection of her love by Hamlet and her father s death, serves to facilitate her thoughts through the use
of madness, speaking her mind clearly on her thoughts on Hamlet s exploitation of the mind of
women, showcasing her sorrow and heavy burden. While the sane merely remain aloof to the sorrows
at hand, the mad seek to reflect them in their true light through backwards remarks and sly words.
Most significantly, this dividing line between the sane and mad is first seen in the character of Hamlet.
Throughout the play, one of Hamlet s key struggles remains to be his inability to express his desire to
rise to action in the name of his father, Old Hamlet, who spurs him to honor his name through
revenge. As Hamlet is visited by his father and called to rise to the occasion and honor his father s past
name and untimely murder through his

Examples Of Postmodern Fragmentation Of Gender
Postmodern fragmentation of gender
According to Lee (1999), postmodern theories abandon modernist singular identities for a fragmented
version of history, where individuals are unstable, constantly moving objects. Post structuralist
discourse feminists have dramatically altered views of gender and sex, creating a distinctly new
paradigm for the concept of womanhood, and providing a comprehensive demolition job on Western
orthodoxies (Sheehan, 2004, p.21). In his way, identity is not only socially and culturally constructed,
but it also changes in different contexts, such as class, race or sexual orientation, and established
systems, such as Western hegemony, humanism, and the nature of reality, are deconstructed

Using concepts, such as magical realism, Nights at the Circus questions what can be considered real,
and anticipates Butler s ideas on artificiality of gender and sexuality. The protagonist, Fevvers, is the
queen of ambiguities, goddess of in between states (p.81), and, as such, her identity is a performance
of characters, none of which can be accepted with certainty, and deemed authentic. She is a virgin and
a whore, a female object on display, desired by men, and also a marvellous monster and an alien
creature (p.161); she is an aerialist, fabulous bird woman (p.15), yet her bodily constitution is butch.
Fevvers is, as Kerchy (2004), notes, a simulacra (p.101), offering an infinite variety of female
identities, no more a singular being (p.286). Similarly to Bakhtin s (1986) concept of the
carnivalesque, Fevvers performance subverts norms, and denies any finality to her identity. This
feminine masquerade dismantles all existing norms and rules for gendered social division. Nights at
the Circus brings forth marginalised characters, women and freaks, and positions them into a state of
becoming, where there is no original, only layers of identities (Botescu Sireteanu, 2010; Michael,

Keynes Theory Of Business Cycles Essay
Keynes Theory of Business Cycles
Introduction
A business cycle refers to a phenomenon of alternating periods of expansion and contraction in
economic activity. In many cases such as have been witnessed in free market nations including the
USA and Great Britain, economic growth is characterized by long run upward GNP growth, followed
by large periodic short run fluctuations in economic activity. The economic period associated with
high income, output and unemployment, is also known as upswing expansion or prosperity. The
economic period associated with low income, output and unemployment is also referred to as
downswing, contraction, recession or depression. These economic fluctuations are called trade cycles
because they tend to occur in a recurrent manner (Knoop, 2009, p.39). Although various theories
explain this phenomenon, this essay analyzes Keynes theory of trade cycles and explains how banking
or finance comes into perspective.

Cuba is a country that has a cuisine filled with an abundance of flavors and influences of the origins of
its citizens and people that came by the island over the centuries. Filled with fruit trees and the perfect
land for raising animals and growing vegetables, Cuban cuisine is unique and vast. A staple in a Cuban

has made its way into many people s morning routines. Breakfast, or desayuno, isn t a very

Dinner, or comida (although its literal translation means meal it is referred to as the evening meal in
Cuba) is a dressy affair in most Cuban homes, regardless of the social status of the family. Every day
when the adults return from work and the children from school and playing outside everyone comes
home to bathe and dress in fresh clothes for dinner, which is served at 7:00 or 8:00 P.M. Some ladies
dress in leisure yet fashionable clothes. In late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries women wore
batas, long white linen dresses, usually hand embroidered with ruffles and lace down to their ankles.
The food served for comida was generally lighter than that served for almuerzo, but was nevertheless
rather elaborate, consisting of three courses. Cubans living in America nowadays don t generally
distinguish much between dishes appropriate for lunch and dinner. Most have adopted the American
custom of having a single large meal in the evening, at which any dish can be served. Meat is very
popular in a Cuban s diet making beef a common main protein in most lunch and dinner dishes.
According to Havana: Autobiography of a City , Beef has been popular since ancient times when the

The Role Of A Pharmacist Essay
Introduction
Today in the 21st century the roles of pharmacist have expanded tremendously. Before pharmacist had
the role of solely dispensing drugs. Pharmacists were limited to only being regulatory or clinical
pharmacist. Back then they were called medical purveyors who were much like today s regulatory
pharmacist and hospital pharmacist who are similar to hospital pharmacist. Now pharmacists carry
many roles in healthcare. Pharmacist can play roles in public health, community, health systems, state,
and federal government.
Leadership
Leadership can be defined as the action of leading a group of people or an organization. Pharmacist fit
the definition of what leadership means perfectly. Pharmacists lead a group of people each and
everyday from, the pharmacy technicians, the pharmacy cashiers in retail, and to the patients they
encounter each day. Also, pharmacist can help lead other healthcare leaders like medical doctors and
nurses into making the best choice for treating the patient. A pharmacist role in healthcare is to be
medicine experts and to make sure the patient is accurately treated with the right medicine. They
achieve this with a group of people not alone.
Public Health Pharmacist
The expansion of the roles pharmacist is growing so quacking that some roles have not been formally
classified. Public health pharmacist has not been formally classified at this time, but they are making a

Balance Sheet and Goodwill
Goodwill is an intangible asset, probably the most intangible of all intangible assets, hard to measure
and even more difficult to account for. Goodwill today constitutes a much larger part of acquisition
prices than it did previously, resulting in a much greater impact on financial statements.
During the twentieth century the concept of goodwill has changed significantly. In the earlier days
goodwill was thought of as the good and valuable relationships of a proprietor of a business with his
customers. The present concept is broader in that it encompasses many more intangible economic
factors of a business enterprise and accountants now consider that goodwill results from the evaluation
of the earning power of a business by investors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is no wonder that managements, in order to avoid this reduction in reportable earnings, frequently
opt to use the pooling of interest method when they complete a merger. Since no goodwill is created,
over eager managers are able to pay outrageous prices for acquisitions with little or no accountability
on the balance sheet. Since it makes no sense to have two different ways for accounting for a merger,
the FASB decided they should eliminate the pooling of interest method and force all transactions to be
done via the purchase method. Executives and politicians claimed this will significantly reduce the
number of mergers since the new standards would cause reportable earnings to drop as soon as a
company had completed an acquisition. As a concession, the FASB will no longer require goodwill to
be written off unless the assets became impaired (which means it becomes clear that the goodwill is
not worth what the company paid for it).
The FASB s six members unanimously approved two new accounting standards on Friday July 23,
2001. Financial Accounting Statement 141 will eliminate the pooling of interest method for booking
mergers. The method had been popular with dealmakers because it allowed companies to do deals at a
premium without marking up their assets. These markups inflate the size of future amortization
expenses and depressed reported earnings, supporters of pooling said. The FASB also passed Financial
Accounting Statement 142 a closely related standard

The Relationship Between Persian Painting And Chinese...
1. Introduction
Kamāl al Dīn Behzād (c.1450 c.1535), who served royal princes of Timurid (1370 1507) and Safavid
(1501 1736) dynasties, is one of the famous painters in Islamic world. Historical records and paintings
related to him are so numerous. From the beginning of 20th century, art historians challenged again
and again to define the style of his paintings and to attribute the non signed works to him. However,
the characteristics thought as Bihzād style are vague, so the re examination of his style is needed. In
this essay, I would like to re examine what is called Bihzād style , by comparing the Persian painting
with Chinese painting.

However, this is not true, because as mentioned above, the taste for Chinese landscape motifs was
already seen in the 13th century. It would be more appropriate to see the works of Bihzād s figural
paintings rather than landscape paintings to define the Bihzād style. According to the one of the
contemporary historical records, Bābor nāma, Bābor wrote Bihzād was good at portraits of beard man.
The statement by Bābor means people who lived in the same period thought Bihzād s strong point was
drawing figures. Figure 1 is the portrait of Dervish, which is attributed to Bihzād. The brush work is
similar to the techniques of Chinese nail head rat tail (釘頭鼠尾in Chinese) (see fig 2). Compared to
classical style of Persian painting (see fig 3), the depiction of hairs, mustaches and beard are so fine.
The shadowing and the realistic depiction of ears, nose and mouth are also rarely seen in the classical
Persian painting. The Chinese derived features of this painting (fig 1) mean, in this period, Persian
painters imitated the works of Chinese paintings. And by doing so, they gradually introduced some
traces of Chinese painting techniques to Persian painting. The influence of Chinese painting had great
impact before the Timurid dynasties, but according Sugimura, Persian painters started to borrowing
the physiognomy for the first time in this period. From his indication and the comparison between
Bihzād practice drawing (fig 1) and Chinese painting (fig 2), Bihzād style could be defined by the
depiction of figures rather than landscape painting

The Narrative Structure Of The Afternoon ( 1942 )
The narrative structure in Meshes of the Afternoon (1942) is unique in that it uses abstract symbolism
to transfer all narrative information to the audience, forcing the audience to actively engage with the
narrative in order to piece together the plot and how it relates the story, if there is one being told at all.
Meshes is told with distinctive narrative structure that relies on different interpretations for one to
understand the purpose it serves as a work of cinema. The purpose of Meshes can be seen to represent,
embody, or exemplify possible ways of seeing and being in the world itself. The artisanal and avant
garde style of Meshes, with its unclear chronological sequencing coupled with its overt referencing to
a dream state, serves to explore the way in which director Maya Deren felt about her world, one she
allowed us to peer into through the lens of her camera. Meshes also relies on its aesthetics as its
primary form of language, with symbolic communication contributing to its poetic form. Meshes also
largely employs an expressive form of emphasis through its use of mis en scene, as the entire film can
be seen as the subconscious expression of Maya Deren s thoughts of her life, specifically of her
relationship with her husband Alexander Hammid. Meshes also uses a poetic form of emphasis in
terms of the style of its narrative, with each repetition of actions serving as a stanza for the film, which
unfolds in the form of a poem.
The visual form of the narrative is

Benefits Of A Paid Maternity Leave From The United States
Paid Maternity Leave Missing in the United States:
Knowledge from European Countries
Katie Comer
Policy Brief Prepared for PMAP 8916
July 2015
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Maternity leave is a retreat that all mothers should have the opportunity to experience after childbirth.
The birth of a child can be exciting, exhausting, and challenging for all new mothers experiencing the
joys of parenthood. Unfortunately for some working mothers living in the United States, maternity
leave is not always guaranteed. The United States is one of the only developed countries in the world
that doesn t guarantee paid maternity leave. An idea so common in other countries is considered a
luxury benefit for hard working mothers in the United States. As more women in the United States
join the workforce, policy needs to reflect and benefit these working mothers. This creates a balancing
act between gender equality, a popular issue amongst political candidates, and paid maternity leave.
America cannot expect to have one without the other. Creating a more efficient and fair maternity
leave system in the United States requires policies that have women, especially mothers, at the center
of the change. Policy makers can look at striving European countries, like Germany and the UK, for
examples on how to initiate a fair and centralized maternity leave system. Both the United States and
EU work with business organizations to create these leave policies, but the EU has been far more

Analysis Of The Film Six Degrees Of Separation
In most films, the director choses a specific setting to help contextualize the time and place that the
film is taking place. In some films, however, the director purposely chooses background elements that
are significant to the plot as they convey tone, emotion, and ideas. In the films Six Degrees of
Separation (1933), Devil in a Blue Dress (1955), and The Human Stain (2003), the director of each
films chooses to incorporate historical subplots into the background of each film. The historical
subplots serve as extensions of the certain characters, helping to emphasize their inherent Otherness.

Paul`s life is in chaos as he is attempting to uproot his entire life by creating a façade to appeal to the
white upper class. It is this façade, however, that gives Paul control in his life as he is finally able to
belong to a family with the Kittredges. This imbalance in Paul`s life causes him to be an Other
because he has changed his entire life to simply swindle wealthy whites. In Devil in a Blue Dress,
director Carl Franklin incorporates references to Delilah from The Imitation of Life (1934), the Black
Dahlia, and Oscar Micheaux`s The Betrayal (1948) to suggest that Daphne Monet will always be
marked with blackness, despite passing for a white. After getting his assignment to find Todd Carter`s
missing fiancé, Ezekiel Rawlins begins his search at a black juke joint where the Daphne is known to
frequent. At the club, the notion of recognition and misrecognition is employed as Ezekiel asks around
for a white girl. Additionally, he begins to misname Daphne by referring to her as Delilah and Dahlia.
The reference is an allusion to the 1934 film Imitation of Life. In the film, Delilah is a black
homemaker living in a subordinate role to her white friend Beatrice. Despite this subjugation, Delilah
is proud of her race. The comparison between Delilah and Daphne not only foreshadows Daphne`s
unsuccessful passing but also her inability to belong in a white relationship. The name Dahlia relates
to the Black Dahlia murder in 1947. This

The Road Expressed Through Character Ideals Essay
The Road Expressed Through Character Ideals In today s world there has recently been an uprising
fixation towards literary works of fiction that depict a post apocalyptic setting. Some example of these
works would be the television series The Walking Dead, the movies World War Z and The Road.
However, even though the literary works use a post apocalyptic setting they illustrate several different
plots. For instance, The Road by Cormac McCarthy is a novel and a movie that seemingly takes place
in the United States after some cataclysmic disaster took place reducing the world to mostly fire and

Cameron s Speech On The 2011 Riots In his speech on the riots, Cameron discounted social conditions such as poverty and unemployment as reasons for the 2011 riots, and focussed instead on criminality and morality (Andrews, G. 2014). This essay will compare and contrast this conservative view of the riots with the radical view. A riot is an occasion involving violence directed at property, persons or authority. The current understanding of the term riot dates back to the fourteenth century, when it began to suggest violence and disorder among the population. By the eighteenth century violence and disorder was on the rise in England, which resulted in Parliament passing the Riot Act of 1715. Ian Kinsella described his concern at how the rioters would be controlled going forward. He described how he pleaded with the rioters to stop, however was chased off and told You re insured mate, you ll be ok! . Opposite Ian Kinsella was Cody Lachey, a proud mancunion who admitted to dressing inconspicuously to partake in the looting. Kirsty the BBC news reporter pointed out that Cody Lachey had served in the military overseas in Afghanistan and Bosnia, he also worked as a security guard for large retailers, she questioned why he doesn t turn the looters in? Cody s response Because I understand...We live in an impoverished society where people do what they have to do to feed their families, and that s the life we re living. (The Open University, 2017). Cody s response is one shared with a high percentage of the rioters, they blamed the crushing effect of poverty, parents who have to work two or three jobs to make ends meet, parents who have no time for their children, no childcare, increase intuition fees, closure of youth services and scrapping of education maintenance and lack of respect from the police. It is believed 59% of those arrested for rioting were unemployed and conceded their involvement in looting was simply down to opportunism, saying that a perceived suspension of normal rules presented them with the opportunity to acquire goods and luxury items they could not ordinarily afford. (Rusbridger, A. 2017). Martin Luther King once defined rioting as the language of the unheard. This was a radical s view expressed by a youth worker shortly after the 2011 ... Gaseous diffusion is a technology that produces enriched uranium by forcing uranium hexafluoride through pipelines and then pumped through filters called barriers. This makes it where there is a slight separation between molecules, which contain uranium 235, and uranium 238. There are hundreds of barriers because one barrier isn t enough to make uranium hexafluoride gas contain enough U238 that can be used in reactors. We only have on plant left and it is located in Paducah, Kentucky. The Gas Centrifuge was made to replace Gaseous Diffusion, it is a device that performs isotope separation of gases and it s the preferred way because it takes less time, and takes less energy. We have these plants in New Mexico, Idaho and Ohio. Laser separation is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The name Malicious Code (Malware) Prevention Plan uses a strategy of defense in depth using operational, human, and technical controls for effectiveness. Used properly, the technical controls available to the TVA organization (TVAO) is effective in stopping a majority of malicious code threats. However, the trusted insider normally has the access needed to turn a threat into an operational risk. As to external threats, the TVAO can expect a continued pattern of organized criminal involvement and international espionage to continue to target the weakest link in the security chain: the human. The defense in depth concept is constructed to rapidly characterize, attribute, and respond to attacks and is given the name Defense of The Grid System or DTGS. The DTGS provides the capability to monitor, detect, analyze, and respond to unauthorized activity, as well as unintentional, non malicious user errors within the iSOC, Tops, and Gen, components of the DTGS. For the DTGS system and its monitored component systems, must detect attacks and respond quickly (e.g. limiting access, excising users, or even disconnecting from the network.) By the end of the Inquisition there was an estimated 90,000 witch trials occur with an estimated 50% of them resulting in executions (Levack, The Witch Hunt in Early Modern Europe 1987, 2006, 23). So what dramatic turn did Europe take during the Inquisition? In the late sixteenth century the great witch hunt was beginning, and this was fueled by the European elites believing that witches were actively harming their neighbors and conspiring with the Devil against the Catholic Church. By the middle of the sixteenth century the profile of the witch was well known and the educated European began to believe in witches (Levack, The Witch Hunt in Early Modern Europe 1987, 2006, 30). What these elite Europeans specifically believed about witches was that they had created personal pacts with the Devil in exchange for the powers that they obtained. The places where these pacts were formed were called the Sabbath (originating from the Jewish holy day), this is where men and women whom practiced witchcraft would gather secretly at night and have relations with the Devil, demons and each other (Levack, The Witch Hunt in Early Modern Europe 1987, 2006, 40 45). The Myth Of Epic Of Gilgamesh Sam Khidir History 10 Professor Chrissanthos 4 October, 2016 From Myth to Religion The Sumerian myth Epic of Gilgamesh is known to be the oldest written fictional story of all time. The original script, discovered on 12 clay tablets in ancient Sumeria, covers the adventures of a real historical figure (Ralph): the Sumarian King of Uruk, who lived sometime between the years 2750 and 2500 B.C. (Epic) The adventures of Gilgamesh were so popular among the people of that era (the earliest written versions of the story dating to 2000 B.C.) that after centuries of being told and retold, they soon became pure fiction. These fictional stories, eventually becoming beliefs that people lived by, brings up one fundamental question that is still debated by many scholars today; was the foundation for the teachings of the Old Testament based on the mythical story of Gilgamesh? The content of the epic, and that of the Old Testament, seem too similar to ignore. This paper will attempt to touch on the similarities between the two stories regarding Noah and the flood, Adam, Eve, and eternal life, Samson and Delilah, embracing today and not worrying about tomorrow, disobedience to the God s and forgiveness, and the word Bible. Here, we show that molecular pathways involving the cell cycle can be engineered to strongly affect embryonic stem cell differentiation at early stages in vitro. Strategies based on perturbing these pathways can shorten the rate and simplify the lineage path of ES differentiation. These results make it likely that pathways involving cell proliferation intersect at various points with pathways that regulate cell lineages in embryos and demonstrate that this knowledge can be used profitably to guide the path and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is surprising, for example, that mouse and human ES cells appear to be so different with respect to the molecules that mediate their self renewal, and perhaps even in their developmental potentials. BMPs, for example, in combination with LIF, promote the self renewal of mouse ES cells. But in conditions that would otherwise support undifferentiated proliferation, BMPs cause rapid differentiation of human ES cells. Also, human ES cells differentiate quite readily to trophoblast, whereas mouse ES cells do so poorly, if at all. One would expect that at some level, the basic molecular mechanisms that control pluripotency would be conserved, and indeed, human and mouse ES cells share the expression of many key genes. Yet we remain remarkably ignorant about the molecular mechanisms that control pluripotency, and the nature of this remarkable cellular state has become one of the central questions of developmental biology. Of course, the other great challenge will be to continue to unravel the factors that control the differentiation of human ES cells to specific lineages, so that ES cells can fulfill their tremendous promise in basic human biology, drug screening, and transplantation ... • 17. Madness In Hamlet Analysis The key theme of madness in Hamlet serves the critical roles of the play, serving to depict the chaos and turbulence reigning through the lives of all within the play. Characters portraying both feigned and authentic madness, such as Hamlet and Ophelia, serve pertinent roles displaying the corruption and destruction of the mind when left alone without a guiding figure, most significantly one in the role of a father, and restrained without a chance to speak freely. Shakespeare creates a definitive line between the sane and mad characters within the play, both in dialogue and presence in many scenes. In the dialogue of both Hamlet and Ophelia in the apex of their madness, as Yi Chi Chen states in his Pregnant with Madness Ophelia s Struggle and Madness in Hamlet, Other than being pregnant in madness, Hamlet s and Ophelia s language is also pregnant with madness (Chen 14.) Through this remark, Chen states that not only is their language sprinkled with puns and dark humor that reflects a meaning underneath a cover of meaningless remarks, their remarks serve to bring about, the truth that lies beneath the masquerade like court of Denmark, each in their own ways (Chen 14.) Hamlet, with his incense towards the marriage between Claudius and Gertrude, serves to utter his disregard towards this relationship in his biting remarks towards both parties. Ophelia, in her utter dismay at the rejection of her love by Hamlet and her father s death, serves to facilitate her thoughts through the use of madness, speaking her mind clearly on her thoughts on Hamlet s exploitation of the mind of women, showcasing her sorrow and heavy burden. While the sane merely remain aloof to the sorrows at hand, the mad seek to reflect them in their true light through backwards remarks and sly words. Most significantly, this dividing line between the sane and mad is first seen in the character of Hamlet. Throughout the play, one of Hamlet s key struggles remains to be his inability to express his desire to rise to action in the name of his father, Old Hamlet, who spurs him to honor his name through revenge. Keynes Theory Of Business Cycles Essay Keynes Theory of Business Cycles Introduction A business cycle refers to a phenomenon of alternating periods of expansion and contraction in economic activity. In many cases such as have been witnessed in free market nations including the USA and Great Britain, economic growth is characterized by long run upward GNP growth, followed by large periodic short run fluctuations in economic activity. The economic period associated with high income, output and unemployment, is also known as upswing expansion or prosperity. The economic period associated with low income, output and unemployment is also referred to as downswing, contraction, recession or depression. These economic fluctuations are called trade cycles because they tend to occur in a recurrent manner (Knoop, 2009, p.39). Although various theories explain this phenomenon, this essay analyzes Keynes theory of trade cycles and explains how banking or finance comes into perspective. Since no goodwill is created, over eager managers are able to pay outrageous prices for acquisitions with little or no accountability on the balance sheet. Since it makes no sense to have two different ways for accounting for a merger, the FASB decided they should eliminate the pooling of interest method and force all transactions to be done via the purchase method. Executives and politicians claimed this will significantly reduce the number of mergers since the new standards would cause reportable earnings to drop as soon as a company had completed an acquisition. As a concession, the FASB will no longer require goodwill to be written off unless the assets became impaired (which means it becomes clear that the goodwill is not worth what the company paid for it). The FASB s six members unanimously approved two new accounting standards on Friday July 23, 2001. Financial Accounting Statement 141 will eliminate the pooling of interest method for booking mergers. According to the one of the contemporary historical records, Bābor nāma, Bābor wrote Bihzād was good at portraits of beard man. The statement by Bābor means people who lived in the same period thought Bihzād s strong point was drawing figures. Figure 1 is the portrait of Dervish, which is attributed to Bihzād. The Narrative Structure Of The Afternoon ( 1942 ) The narrative structure in Meshes of the Afternoon (1942) is unique in that it uses abstract symbolism to transfer all narrative information to the audience, forcing the audience to actively engage with the narrative in order to piece together the plot and how it relates the story, if there is one being told at all. Meshes is told with distinctive narrative structure that relies on different interpretations for one to understand the purpose it serves as a work of cinema. The purpose of Meshes can be seen to represent, embody, or exemplify possible ways of seeing and being in the world itself. The artisanal and avant garde style of Meshes, with its unclear chronological sequencing coupled with its overt referencing to a dream state, serves to explore the way in which director Maya Deren felt about her world, one she allowed us to peer into through the lens of her camera. Meshes also relies on its aesthetics as its primary form of language, with symbolic communication contributing to its poetic form. Meshes also largely employs an expressive form of emphasis through its use of mis en scene, as the entire film can be seen as the subconscious expression of Maya Deren s thoughts of her life, specifically of her relationship with her husband Alexander Hammid. Meshes also uses a poetic form of emphasis in terms of the style of its narrative, with each repetition of actions serving as a stanza for the film, which unfolds in the form of a poem. The visual form of the narrative is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Benefits Of A Paid Maternity Leave From The United States Paid Maternity Leave Missing in the United States: Knowledge from European Countries Katie Comer Policy Brief Prepared for PMAP 8916 July 2015 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Maternity leave is a retreat that all mothers should have the opportunity to experience after childbirth. The birth of a child can be exciting, exhausting, and challenging for all new mothers experiencing the joys of parenthood. Unfortunately for some working mothers living in the United States, maternity leave is not always guaranteed. The United States is one of the only developed countries in the world that doesn t guarantee paid maternity leave. An idea so common in other countries is considered a luxury benefit for hard working mothers in the United States. As more women in the United States join the workforce, policy needs to reflect and benefit these working mothers. This creates a balancing act between gender equality, a popular issue amongst political candidates, and paid maternity leave. America cannot expect to have one without the other. Creating a more efficient and fair maternity leave system in the United States requires policies that have women, especially mothers, at the center of the change. Policy makers can look at striving European countries, like Germany and the UK, for examples on how to initiate a fair and centralized maternity leave system. Paul`s life is in chaos as he is attempting to uproot his entire life by creating a façade to appeal to the white upper class. It is this façade, however, that gives Paul control in his life as he is finally able to belong to a family with the Kittredges. This imbalance in Paul`s life causes him to be an Other because he has changed his entire life to simply swindle wealthy whites. In Devil in a Blue Dress, director Carl Franklin incorporates references to Delilah from The Imitation of Life (1934), the Black Dahlia, and Oscar Micheaux`s The Betrayal (1948) to suggest that Daphne Monet will always be marked with blackness, despite passing for a white. After getting his assignment to find Todd Carter`s missing fiancé, Ezekiel Rawlins begins his search at a black juke joint where the Daphne is known to frequent. At the club, the notion of recognition and misrecognition is employed as Ezekiel asks around for a white girl. Additionally, he begins to misname Daphne by referring to her as Delilah and Dahlia. The reference is an allusion to the 1934 film Imitation of Life. In the film, Delilah is a black homemaker living in a subordinate role to her white friend Beatrice. Despite this subjugation, Delilah is proud of her race. The comparison between Delilah and Daphne not only foreshadows Daphne`s unsuccessful passing but also her inability to belong in a white relationship. The name Dahlia relates to the Black Dahlia murder in 1947. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a chief aviation ordnanceman, he was in charge of twenty men whose primary task was to maintain the weapons of VP 11,a PBY Catalina flying boat squadron. On the morning of 7 December 1941, Finn was at his home, about a mile from the aircraft hangars, when he heard the sound of gunfire. Finn recalled how a neighbor was the first to alert him, when she knocked on his door saying, They want you down at the squadron right away! He drove to the hangars, catching sight of Japanese planes in the sky on the way, and found that the airbase was being attacked, with most of the PBYs already on fire.[3][5][6] Finn s men were trying to fight back by using the machine guns mounted in the PBYs, either by firing from inside the flaming planes or by detaching the guns and mounting them on improvised stands. Finn later explained that one of the first things he did was to take control of a machine gun from his squadron s painter.
