Mallet Loger Injury
The hand is usually injured by sprains or fractures. If your hand is injured you will notice swelling,
pain, and stiffness all of which may limit the ways that you can use your hands. Some activities that
could injure your hands are basketball, football or baseball so any sports that involves ball handling or
any physical sport like rugby.
The extensor tendons are muscles that allow your fingers and thumbs to extend. The location of this
muscle is right under the skin at the back of your finger. The location of the muscle can cause
problems because if the finger is bent back to the palm the muscle can tear. The most common name
for this injury is baseball finger also known as mallet finger. When this tendon is damaged the top of

Comparison Of Pulmonary And Systemic Circuits
There are two circuits in which blood flows through: pulmonary and systemic. The pulmonary circuit
does two things: bring blood without oxygen (oxygen depleted) to the lungs and blood with oxygen
(oxygen rich) back to the heart. Blood flows out of the right side of the heart to the pulmonary arteries
to the lungs. This oxygen depleted blood then becomes oxygen rich in the lungs and releases carbon
dioxide. This oxygen rich blood then flows back to the right side of the heart to be used in the
systemic circuit.
The systemic circuit also does two things: brings oxygen rich blood to the entire body besides the
lungs and oxygen depleted blood to the heart. Blood flows out of the left side of the heart to the aorta.
Aorta is the name of the artery which brings oxygen rich blood to the entire body. This blood is then
transported from the aorta to connecting arteries and capillaries. Diffusion takes place in the
capillaries in which the blood becomes oxygen depleted and takes in carbon dioxide, unlike the
pulmonary circuit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The upper two chambers, atria, carry blood to the heart. The lower two chambers, ventricles, carry
blood out of the heart. In the pulmonary circuit, blood flows from the veins to the right atrium to the
right ventricle to the pulmonary arteries to the lungs. In the systemic circuit, blood flows from the left
atrium to the left ventricle to the aorta to the branching arteries to the capillaries throughout the body.
The heart has valves to prevent the backward flow of blood. Atrioventricular valves separate the atria
and ventricles. The pulmonary valve and aortic valve separate the ventricles and arteries. A heartbeat
is the sound the valves make as they open and

The Values Of Michelangelo Buonarroti s Reputance
Reputation is an opinion about entity (a person, a social group, an organization), typically a result of
social evaluation on a set of criteria. Also, reputation may be considered as a component of identity as
defined by others [ ]. This essay will talk about a very famous Italian Renaissance artist, considering
the circumstances in which such artist had established his reputation. The essay intends to explain the
values of the Renaissance era and their qualities, and then to apply this knowledge specifically to the
reputation of Michelangelo Buonarroti, the Italian sculptor, painter, architect and poet.
The essay first describes the qualities of the Renaissance values in question, then focuses on the
specific effects they had on Michelangelo. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His work received traditional criticism as irreligious in terms of its emphasis on the naked human
body; since it is presented not as a religious figure but as a real human. His frescos and paintings
contained many completely naked characters. In response to such uncommon arts, Roman Catholic
Cardinal accused him of immorality and obscenity. The extreme concern for preserving morals led the
Cardinal to call for a campaign to have the work removed or censored. Michelangelo was also
criticized for his artistic choices, including his emphasis on the physical rather than the spiritual
element.
In many ways, the Michelangelo style was considered by others frivolous because instead of the focus
on religion or the social concerns, the subjects were often contemporaries exploring humanism which
was not accepted in Italy at that time. In fact, most of his paintings including David were considered
antithetical to the classical tradition of

Rob And Ian Walk On Screen
Scene 1
Rob and Ian walk on screen.
Ian: Yo Rob. Come hide behind this car until Kenny walks by. Keep your gun loaded and aimed. Do it
quickly and don t be intimidated. I will be here right next to you. This will make our plan work, don t
you forget that.
Rob: Stay by messed just in case I mess up.
Ian: I am right here. Be calm and keep your hands steady.
(Ian moves out of the way)
Rob: I don t feel right about doing this, but he has given me some good reasons to do it. It s just one
person, no problem. I pull the trigger and he s dead.
Ian: (to himself) I ve made this Rob really angry. It doesn t matter if he kills Ken, Ken kills him or
they both kill each other. It works out for me in the end. The only thing is that if Rob lives, he will ask
for the money that I stole from him. That can t happen. If Ken does survive, he might expose me to
Arthur. That would be very bad for me. He has to die. I here him coming.
(Ken walks by)
Rob: I know that walk, it is the target. Die Ken!
(Rob shoots at Ken)
Ken: That shot would have hurt if I didn t have my bullet proof vest on under my shirt. Now let s see
what you are made of.
(Ken takes out his gun and shoots at Rob)
Rob: Oh, I am dying !
(From behind the car I an shoots Ken in the leg than leaves)
Ken: I ll be crippled! Help me! Help! Murder!
(Arthur enters)
Arthur: That s Ken s scream. Ian has kept his promise.

Eskimo Mothers Campaign Analysis
In order to solidify the First Nations place as designated outsiders in their own homeland (8) the press
had to show how Indigenous people become the other when compared to the white settlers of Canada.
In comparison to the white setters presumed racial superiority, the media would use headlines and
stories that evoked images of Indians as dependent children. One specific instance of this is the federal
government s poster campaign to instruct the Eskimo mothers about how to use their newly awarded
family allowance funds by the Department of National Health and Welfare (148). This campaign
created a standard that, despite being mothers and raising children in this land for generations, the
Inuit mothers were not capable of providing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the Louis Riel 1885 North West Resistance, the press used their influence to shape the
narrative as an event fated to occur because, as the Gazette reported, it was inevitable that the red
skins would become the reckless, murderous devils which nature has made them in their native
conditions... [and] sooner or later it was inevitable that the red skins would make an effort to regain
control of the country, massacre and pillage the settlers (67). This description paints a picture of First
Nations as unable to escape an almost animalistic urge to kill and destroy that is engrained in their
very sense of self. In the press coverage of the 1885 Resistance, we can also see the close ties between
the use of the savage stereotype and the childlike Indian. Although the press called for Riel to hang for
his crimes against Canada, the Metis were described as the poor misguided half breeds whom Riel
swindled and bullied (67) which portrays them as lacking the ability to stand up for themselves and
the maturity to resist

Civil Disobedience Controversy
Throughout history, American citizens have voiced their opposition to certain legislation they felt
were immoral. There have been various examples of protest, one of which ignites a lot of controversy;
civil disobedience. Civil disobedience has been used by people who felt they were not being heard.
Even though there are people who will argue against its effectiveness, this is a way for individuals to
take part in their government and promotes a free society. According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of
Philosophy, civil disobedience was initially used by Henry David Thoreau in his essay titled Civil
Disobedience . Thoreau used this to rationalize his decision not to pay taxes for actions by the
government he did not morally agree with. Those after Thoreau used his tactic of civil disobedience to
get laws changed through non violent measures (Brownlee). Having publicity also helps activists
reach their goals and is often an element that is paid close attention to by the participants (Brownlee).
In American history, civil disobedience has been a key technique to initiate change in the areas like the
Civil Rights Movement and the Women s Suffrage Movement. In both of these movements the
activists followed the basic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to history, civil disobedience does work to make change happen when the acts are non
violent, have a specific motive, and have ample press coverage. This is enough proof to ensure civil
disobedience can be successful today if the same principles are used. According to an article on CNN
s website, protesters at Keystone are preparing to start mass civil disobedience as a showing of
solidarity for Standing Rock (Jones). Like successful movements they have a goal; to stop the building
of the pipeline in their territory. Additionally, they have press coverage so others are aware of their
movement and they are acting in a non violent

Lithography In Society
In the modern day, it s easy to see man s need for technology. The need to surpass previous limits is
what drives society today in such a technologically advanced world. Although we continuously push
for newer, faster, more powerful computers and components, we barely stop and think about how
society in turn affects its development. The best place to start would be the CPU1, given they are
undoubtedly the most important hardware of computers, as they act as the brain or command center,
taking and processing billions of instructions per second. Now, there are two main topics I d like to
focus on with CPUs: AMD s Ryzen architecture s2 influence and Intel s current developments with it s
lithography3 process. So, to begin with AMD and Ryzen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The files first need to exist somewhere where the computer can reach them, our hard drive. Currently,
there are two different types of hard drives available on the market. Hard disk drives, otherwise known
as HDD s and solid state drives, otherwise known as SSD s respectively. Hard disk drives have been
used since the early days of modern computing. They act the same way as old VCR and tape cassettes,
with magnets. HDD s are composed of one or more circular, metallic platters that currently spin at
speeds of 5400, 5900, or 7200 RPM s14. Once they spin up to their designated speed, a little arm with
a magnet spans over the metallic disks and proceeds to read and write to the disk, with reading being a
whole lot faster than writing as the arm doesn t have to change the arrangement of the magnetic
particles on the disk. Solid state drives however are different in respect to that they have no moving
parts. They are little PCB s15 with silicon NVMe chips used to hold the

Benefits Of An Initial Cost Benefit Analysis
Costs Benefits
An initial cost benefit analysis was conducted in order to calculate if this change was justifiable and
feasible in terms of cost. It began by introducing the idea to staff and evaluating their feedback. This
initial assessment indicated the staff s overall commitment to this change process. Staff participation is
crucial to the cost because they are responsible for implementing the practice, which will ultimately
save the hospital money. The benefits of this practice change such as the financial savings and
decrease in workload were presented to the staff during the EBP launch meeting in order to encourage
participation and adherence to the change. The biggest cost associated with this project would be the

During this stage, the educational team will meet with charge nurses and to commence the change.
There will be flyers, posters, and educational opportunities during change of shift announcements for
charge nurses to instruct the staff nurses about the change in protocol. The presumed budget for the
education team and policy implementation have already been formulated and can be accessed in
Appendix F. An application to the Internal Review Board will be submitted and reviewed for approval.
This change will require system wide recognition as a quality improvement process.
Intervention
A new policy will be enacted to reflect the most recent evidence regarding PIV replacement in a 28
bed cardiac progressive care unit at a local San Diego hospital. This policy supports the need for the
replacement of PIV catheters when clinically indicated as opposed to the previous practice of routine
replacement every 72 96 hours on this unit. Ideally, the implementation will take four to five weeks to
implement onto the unit. The main implementation obstacle will be educating the nurses on the new
policy, which will be done through posters, signs or flyers, powerpoints, and charge nurse meetings
with staff (refer to Appendix E). The utilization of a unit educator will also be beneficial in educating
the unit staff on the new policy change. It is assumed that there will not be resistance within the staff
nurses since the implementation of this new policy will

Native American Medicine and Spiritual Healing Essay
Throughout time, mankind has persistently been seeking ways to maintain their health and to cure
those that had not been so fortunate in that task. Just about everything has been experimented with as a
cure for some type of illness; whether physical, spiritual or mental. There has always been evidence of
spiritual healing and it will continue to be an important part of any healing process, large or small. In
particular the roots of Native American Medicine men (often a woman in some cultures) may be
traced back to ancient times referred to as Shaman. A special type of healer used by the Indians is
referred to as a medicine man (comes from the French word medecin, meaning doctor). Shaman are

are four key fundamentals for becoming a medicine man; a mediator between the people and the Great

prepares himself by fasting, prayer and isolation. Many times this is referred to as a Vision Quest.

state of consciousness. Talking with plants, they gain knowledge of them and how to develop

comprehension of plants. On the other hand Inuit and Yupik angakok (shamans) work with other
things because they of the restricted supply of plants. Which brings us to a very important issue:

Flight Patterns Essay
Sherman Alexie s Flight Patterns tries to tackle a challenging subject. It probes the underbelly of
modern life, sifting through the cloudy American mind that s full of seemingly useless information, in
search of what s truly important in life. This happens through the stories two main scenes. The first
depicts William s relationship with his daughter and wife, and conflicts in life. The second engages
William in a taxi cab conversation that shuffles his priorities and forces him to confront his problem.
This pushes him to his tipping point, and when the ride is over, he becomes uneasy and cares only to
hear his family s voice, not about his job, or the fears that had previously been driving forces. Alexie

Alexie s trying to show us that hiding your problems isn t the correct way to deal with them, and in
William s case, his family needs him more than William needs his job. What exactly is his job? He
works at a think tank selling theoretical ideas to companies. This job plagues William with
ambivalence. Though he s able to think creatively and enjoy certain freedoms that other jobs don t
offer, it restricts the time he has with his family by requires him to fly all over the country. And as he
notes that his wife s always waiting for William to call while on the road, his taxi arrives and William
embarks on the second part of the story. The way I read the taxi cab portion made me think of it as a
quasi mock confession booth, with the driver, Fekadu, serving as the priest. This isn t very clear at the
beginning of the ride when William s trying to meditate and stuff his problems away into his
imaginary deposit box. But once Fekadu gets the conversation rolling, the outpour of emotion starts,
marking an important shift from William hiding problems to trying to face them. After explaining the
feelings that come with leaving his family, causing him sometimes to feel as if he ll explode without
their love, he has an insight that plays into the religious aspect of the taxicab. There is emotional
safety in anonymity, he thought (page 432). And while I m not Catholic, I ve noticed in movies

Output hardware is components of or devices linked to a computer, which allow the computer to
transfer information to another computer system or the user of a computer system (Kroenke pg74).
This output hardware sends information in the form of images, sound, or various other tangible
imagery usually, to some form of input hardware on another system. It is not designed to receive data
only to send. The most familiar of these devices is the visual display or computer monitor. These
monitors are usually synonymous with a computer and every system is equipped with or able to
connect to a Visual Display Unit. Projectors, audio systems, printers, and faxes are all examples of
output hardware. Microsoft Corporation in their endeavors to enhance everyone s life with the aid of
computing software has developed output hardware for the blind or visually challenged. Windows also
offers a function such as video narrator, that provides audio descriptions of videos
(http://Windows.Microsoft.com). In addition to these components windows is compatible with
numerous other programs and hardware components that are designed to enhance the lives of those
who are blind or visually impaired. More recently Microsoft has also included Braille output devises

Emigre Foundry Case Study
Emigre Foundry was founded in 1984 in Northern California by Zuzana Licko and
Rudy VanderLans. It is a digital type foundry that holds exclusive license to over 300 original typeface
designs created by a roster of contemporary designers (Emigre).
Emigre was the first type foundry that created type on a computer for computers. They also used to
publish a magazine that was highly regarded in the graphic design industry,
Emigre magazine, and designed new fonts for the magazine.
Zuzana Licko was one of the first designers to create type for computers.
Because of the early, poor screen resolution, she created bitmap fonts that had jagged edges. Licko
also created one of the first vector fonts that worked well with the screen resolution and dot matrix

Licko and VanderLans ran into some criticism though. The graphic designer
Massimo Vignelli called Emigre a typographic garbage factory that signifies the degradation of
culture. This was at the time when the Mac computer was introduced, and printing was being done by
offset typography which was a fairly new technology itself. As with most change, a new idea or
technology is often met with skepticism and a reluctance to change. I am sure that the pixilated fonts
were not pretty or familiar and the letterpress and offset typography were preferred.
Emigre paved the way for contemporary designers and the growing graphic

Analysis Of Rick Blain And His Internal Conflict
Analysis of Rick Blain and His Internal Conflict From the audience s perspective, Casablanca
(Michael Curtiz, 1942) is a romantic drama. The scene where Rick Blaine, the lead male, is at the bar
after seeing Ilsa Lund, his former lover, is the most dramatic moment in the film. The audience first
sees Rick alone at the bar drinking. Sam walks in the bar and has a powerful conversation with Rick.
The moment that these two characters share is dramatic because the audience is getting to see a side of
Rick that hasn t been seen yet. The audience is used to seeing Rick as the perfect man. After he sees
Ilsa, he breaks down, which is indicated by his heavy drinking, showing that he has a weakness. The
cinematography helps show the dynamic change in Rick. The shot distance allows the audience to see
Rick s facial expressions. Although Rick is seen as strong and independent, when he is reunited with
Ilsa, he is drawn into a darkness that he is struggling with in the scene; it is easy to see the struggle of
man vs. himself and the concept of masculinity. In this scene we see Rick in a vulnerable state after
having seen Ilsa for the first time in a year. The camera shot is varied from close ups to medium long
shots. When a close up is used the audience can see the emotions on Rick s face more clearly. He is
burdened with memories of the past. This breaks with the idea of masculinity because the audience
can clearly see that Rick is in distress. Men are burdened with social norms that

to be an eternity up until one of his classmates took a seat next to him. The young lad asked him: Hey,

The Importance Of Liberal Arts In Business Education
Over the years, schools of business education had not seen the need to incorporate liberal arts into
their programs. In the past, employment rates for liberal arts majors had been generally low, which
caused the school of business to turn away from the major and not want anything to do with it.
According to a study conducted at Georgetown University, liberal arts majors were found to have one
of the top unemployment rates at 8.4% (Dumbauld, 2016). They have not provided great job
opportunities and have left their students paying off large amounts of debt with not a lot of money
coming in to pay them. Business once viewed liberal arts as a waste of time, since only certain
subjects were being taught. During the 1970s and 1980s, many colleges began to shift from liberal arts
to professional education in order to meet students demands and maintain enrollment (Delucchi, 2009,
p. 175). With this new restructuring of more business majors being added to the undergraduate
curriculum, a demand driven response had risen to changed student interests (Delucchi, 2009, p. 175).
Business has become such a popular major because it is needed in so many fields and assures
graduates with a stable career path. Liberal arts colleges cannot guarantee this same promise due to
claims of not having a distinctive educational identity and a clear social and political class. Only
certain institutions have been able to support specific liberal arts graduates with high standing
positions in the

Symbolism In Go Tell It On The Mountain
In Go Tell It on the Mountain, James Baldwin works with themes of gender, violence, and change. He
does this through Florence, Gabriel, and the symbol of morning. The author is trying to say people s
decision can be determined by external factors. Florence is treated differently because she is girl.
Education is not offered to her, but to her brother who hates to learn. And he needed the education that
Florence desired far more than he, and that she might have got if he had not been born. She should
take all the responsibilities and do all the works at home as a woman. And she [mother] wanted
Florence, also, to be content helping with the washing, and fixing meals and keeping Gabriel quiet...
Florence was a girl, and all the duties of a woman; and this being so, her life in the cabin was the best
possible preparation for her future life. Her mother has different attitudes toward her and her brother.
Gabriel was the apple of his mother s eye. If he had never been born, Florence might have looked
forward to a day when she would be released from her unrewarding round of labor, when she might

conic sections. With the help of Appollonius, they came up with the Double Napped Cone , which
clearly shows all three different shapes. In this project, I m going to study and analyze specifically the
ellipse. What is an ellipse? It s the set of points on a plane whose sum of the distance of two fixed
points is constant . The main parts on an ellipse are: center, foci and vertices. The focus is the most
important and the most used in real life. The foci determine the shape of the ellipse, therefore the
vertices, endpoints, major axis and minor axis. The ellipse is found mostly in architecture and
astronomy. For example, in London, the St. Paul Cathedral has an elliptical form. Studies have proven
that if two people stand at the two foci, and one of them whispers, the other guy can hear it clearly. In
astronomy, lots of people confuse ellipse with eclipse; THEY ARE TWO COMPLETELY
DIFFERENT THINGS! The ellipse is very useful to astronomers because it defines the distance

Oliver Cromwell
Oliver Cromwell is and has always been one of the most controversial characters in British and Irish
history. There are few people in Great Britain and Ireland today who have not yet heard of Oliver
Cromwell and either loathe him or see him as a hero. Yet, the world is not black and white and so is
the truth about Cromwell. In order to understand his role in both countries as a whole, one has to look
at the perspective of both nations, Cromwell s beliefs and his motives.
Oliver Cromwell s religious belief was one of the most important influences on his doings and shaped
his way of thinking immensely. Cromwell was a highly religious man and member of Puritans.

Throughout history, Cromwell has been portrayed in very different lights, especially in Great Britain.
It is an undeniable fact that Cromwell contributed some good to his country. For instance, numerous
laws were made less severe and politics as well as justice less corrupt. In matters of religion, he
granted freedom of worship. Yet, after his death Cromwell was seen as a tyrant and a king slayer and
the people were tired of living under such strict rules. Regarding politics, debates arose about what
effect he had on the political system after his death. It is incontrovertible that his rule was one of the
turning points in British history, as Cromwell ensured that a king would never be able to rule on his
own.
However, nowhere is Cromwell more associated with fevered anti Catholicism and murder than in
Ireland. Cromwell came to Ireland in 1649 pursuing two objectives: to place the island firmly under
the control of British leaders and to suppress those Royalists who wanted to return to the status quo, in
which English monarchy ruled. Those Loyalists and also Irish Catholics were especially a thorn in the
side of Cromwell, as he believed they were all potential traitors and willing to help any Catholic
uprising that wanted to attack England. Cromwell personified the anti Catholicism of his time and he
believed he was carrying out the orders from God by taming the Irish. His first target was Drogheda, a
town in which he slaughtered thousands of Irish people.

Forced Convection Heat Transfer
Forced Convection Heat Transfer
I. Introduction
This laboratory deals with forced convection, forced convection can be considered as a staple of heat
transfer. That is to say that forced convection can be found in almost any heat transfer problem, and
thus understanding its importance and how it affects a given problem is one of the more important
learning objectives/outcomes of heat transfer.
When dealing with forced convection the most important section, after understanding how convection
works, is the convection heat transfer coefficient. The heat transfer coefficient for convection is
denoted by (h) and is measured in w/m^2*K, this lab delves into the application of convection heat
transfer and how it correlates to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Porter Five Forces Of Intel
Five forces (semi conductor industry
Porters five forces model is a tool that helps a company understand competition in that market. There
are five different segments in this model, you have competitive rivalry, bargaining power of
customers, bargaining power of supplies, threat of substitutes, and threat of new entrains. In the micro
processing industry, there are many competitors. The one company that is a true competitor for Intel is
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). AMD is the second largest microprocessor supplies and the
significant rival to Intel for x86 based microprocessors.
Competitive Rivalry
Intel uses a differentiation strategy that builds competitive advantage through product quality,
customer service, and brand image management. Intel invests heavily in the innovation of their
products including their cutting edge microprocessors and other technological products, so they can
ensure leadership within the market. One way to succeed in product differentiation is to continuously
innovate and develop new or enhanced products that cannot be easily matched by competitors.
Bargaining Power of customers
With Intel have very few substitutes in the microprocessor industry, it is it is most certain that current
customers will not want to switch and use another company s products. High switching cost presents
low bargaining power to the customers mainly because it would be very expensive to switch to a
competitor, and since Intel is the leader in the market, switching

Athletics And Persons With Disabilities
Athletics and Persons with Disabilities It wasn t that long ago when the words athletics and persons
with disabilities did not belong together. If a person was born with a physical or intellectual disability,
sports fell into the group of activities that were excluded from their life. If an athlete acquired a
physical or intellectual disability, sports became an activity they could no longer participate in. Sports
and athletic pursuits belonged solely to non disabled persons. Persons with disabilities could only
watch from the sidelines. Our society did not encourage or support any physical sports programs that
allowed persons with disabilities to pursue their athletic dreams. Slowly, a cultural shift has altered our
perception of what is possible for persons with disabilities. Part of this shift can be attributed to the
Civil Rights Movement of the 1960 s. Once the Civil Rights Act was signed into law, the walls of
discrimination and segregation began to crumble. Although the Civil Rights Act initially sought to
ensure equality for African Americans and other people of color, it eventually expanded to protect
other vulnerable classes in our society.1 A piece of legislation that has contributed greatly to the rights
of those with disabilities is the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. This legislation is considered
as far reaching and important as the Civil Rights Act. The core of the legislation focuses on
prohibiting discrimination against persons

Essay On Gold Rush
Gold Rush in the United States It is amazing how a small gold nugget drew a large mass of miners
into Cherokee Nation s grounds. Most people never associate Georgia and gold. Instead they associate
Georgia with slaves, plantations, and cotton fields. One of the unusual events in the Gold Rush was
the surprising find of gold in Georgia. A three ounce gold nugget was found. People began to search
for gold in the caves. Once more gold was found they began to dig for the precious gold nuggets.
First, gold was found in Georgia records indicate to have been in 1829. John Witheroods found a three
ounce nugget along Duke s Creek in Habersham County (present day) White County . (David
Williams) Others will dispute who actually found the first piece of gold nugget. Some people say it
was a gentlemen from North Carolina, found gold nugget in the same location. There is no concrete
evidence who was the first one to find gold. Once the news reached the surrounding areas and states.
The large number of miners was greater than initially expected to have been. Many Gold Rush towns

Ozone and Global Environmental Politics Essay
Ozone and Global Environmental Politics
A thin layer of gas called atmosphere surrounds the Earth. The atmosphere serves two important
purposes: it is a filter for the suns dangerous ultraviolet radiation rays and keeps the heat, necessary to
maintain life on earth, within the stratosphere (Vorlat 361). Ultraviolet light is incredibly dangerous to
all the organisms within the Earth s ecosystem because it causes skin cancer, effects the immune
system, and harms plant and animal life. For that reason the atmosphere and the ozone layer within it
are crucial to a stable life on this planet. The ozone layer is in danger, however. It is facing depletion
by a toxic man made substance called chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Together ... Show more content on

CFCs are a very heavy, very stable chemical often found in things such as air conditioners,
refrigerators, fire extinguishers etc. Upon release it can take the chemical up to five years to reach the
ozone layer. Once there the sun s rays split the chlorine atom causing it to bond with the ozone atom
and in turn destroying it (Kellner 20). A single pound of Freon, a CFC, can destroy as much as 70,000
pounds of ozone (Kellner 20). CFCs are responsible for depleting five percent of the three billion
metric tons of ozone in the air, that loss contributed to a twenty to twenty five percent decrease in the
ozone over the uppermost northern region of Earth. Not to mention that every time the ozone
decreases the increase in skin cancer is two fold (Kellner 20). All of the CFCs being inputted into the
atmosphere are causing the depletion of the ozone layer and the result is a hole forming over the
Antarctic region.
The hole forms every September to November, during the Antarctic spring. In 1998 however, the hole
showed up in mid August and in September reached a record size of ten and half million square miles.
That is three and a half times the size of the United States. The hole is not really a hole but rather a
thinning of the ozone layer. The ozone layer has thinned so much though that patches are left unfilled,
giving the appearance of a hole. In 1998 the layer was close to record thinness (Kloor 8). When the
hole was

Examples Of Ignorance In To Kill A Mockingbird
Ignorance is bliss, is a common adage that is used to justify someone s lack of information or
misunderstanding. This saying should not be used because it can lead people to be indignant or lazy.
When anyone chooses to avoid or ignore a situation because they do not understand it, this can create
more problems than originally had. The residents of Maycomb create issues and complications from
their ignorance and indignance. In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, this ignorance is
shown through racism, sexism and distinct social classes.
The book was taken place in 1933 when racial tensions were high. This is clearly seen through the
common use of racial slurs and treatment of african americans in the book. An example of this is ...

1. How would you describe Marlboro s competitive position in early 1993?
Marlboro, the leading cigarette brand for Philip Morris, was the dominant player in the premium
priced market. While RJR was the second largest player in the market, RJR s cigarette brands were
fragmented. At the end of 1992, Marlboro had 24.4% unit market share, while each of the RJR brand
cigarettes had less than 7% market share. Philip Morris, at 53% operating contribution margin, was
significantly more profitable than RJR, at 34% operating contribution margin.

RJR
Phillp Morris was also presumably worried about the aggressive price cuts and promotions by RJR to
increase its market share.
Goals of Philip Morris Strategy
Philip Morris needed a aggressive competitive response to tacklethe threats of: declining market share,
increasing share of discount brands, regulation, and RJR s promotions and price cuts. They decided to
aggressively attack the existing discount brands and make the Philip Morris brand significantly more
price competitive.
Philip Morris effectively cut price by 20%, creating 2 tiers of cigarette pricing (from 3 tiers before).
Their premium products were now significantly more competitive, compared with the discount brands
due to their reduced price and existing strong brand image. Philip Morris were betting that a large
portion of consumers would compare their premium product as price competitive with the discount
brands, and would chose Marlboro due to its superior brand image and comparable prices. They
essentially wanted to win the pricing game and lead with their brand. Surprisingly, they slightly
increased the price of their discount brand by a mere 6 cents. This was probably to restrict the range in
which the pricing war could be played by other players.
Industry Outlook for Philip Morris
Surely with the consumer behavior shift and the increasingly hostile regulatory climate described
above, Philip Morris views the industry margins becoming thinner and realizes

Many criticisms have been made on the validity of social media s impact on activism because of its
lack of the strong, personal bonds required in high risk activism as in such prominent activist
campaigns as the Civil Rights Movement. Social media is not as effective in creating a significant
impact in social activism compared to actual riots and protests. It lacks the centralized, structured focus
needed for effective social movements. Critics of social media and its growing impact would argue
that the impersonal nature of social media does not promote action and personal sacrifice so much as it
promotes participation in spreading the message of the cause and support of the values of the cause.
The argument is made that activists on social media would rather like a page on Facebook or follow a
Twitter account than risk their lives for the sake of their causes which is reflected in many statistics

School Lunch Essay
Skipping Dessert
When I was younger, I vividly remember the vast amount of delicious food that was offered every day
in my school lunchroom. The food that I use to describe as good food, I am beginning to undoubtedly
recognise for the unhealthy junk that it actually is. There are countless others who also notice how
horrible these foods are to feed children in school cafeterias. Today, those same cafeterias are
tremendously different from the ones I remember from when I was little, and they are always
continuously changing. The amount of options we are offered have not lessened, they have simply
changed. Instead of having the option to purchase nachos, we now are given the option of baked fries.
Also, instead of having a dessert of an innutritious brownie, we now are given a large variety of sweet
fruits to choose from instead. While some students distinguish these changes as a catastrophe, I can
understand the importance of having students skip dessert during a school lunch. Allowing the NSLP
to regulate what is served in school lunches would help parents trust that their children would be

Lego As A Plastic Injection Machine For Toy Production Essay
We all know the classic Legos bricks, but Lego has not always been this well loved toy. Originally
Lego was a carpentry business in 1932. It created wooden toys such as a wooden duck. It s first
construction toy was the Kirk s Sandgame (Lego, 2012).
By 1946 Lego was creating wooden bricks with decorations such as letters and figures. Following
World War II plastics became available in Denmark (Wikipedia, 2016). This same year Lego Group
purchased its first plastic injection molding machine for toy production (Hansen, 1982). The machine
did not arrive until a year later (Lego, 2012). With the machine Lego started building items such as a
plastic fish, a plastic sailor, and the game Tiddlywinks (Lego, 2012). One of the first modular toys to
be produced was a truck that could be taken apart and re assembled (Wikipedia, 2016). With the new
machine Lego received several sample parts showing its capabilities. Among these samples were
Hilary Fisher Page s Kiddicraft Self Locking Building Brick (The Automatic Binding Brick, n.d.).
From those samples Lego created its first Automatic Binding Brick with four and eight studs (Lego,
2012). They had taken the Kiddicraft brick and modified it by straightening the round corners and
converting inches to cm and mm. The studs on the bricks were also flattened on top (The Automatic
Binding Brick, n.d.). The Automatic Binding Bricks were 2 × 2 and 2 × 4 bricks with 2 side slits and 2
× 2, 2 × 3 and 2 × 4 panel windows and 2 × 4 panel doors

  • 3. Comparison Of Pulmonary And Systemic Circuits There are two circuits in which blood flows through: pulmonary and systemic. The pulmonary circuit does two things: bring blood without oxygen (oxygen depleted) to the lungs and blood with oxygen (oxygen rich) back to the heart. Blood flows out of the right side of the heart to the pulmonary arteries to the lungs. This oxygen depleted blood then becomes oxygen rich in the lungs and releases carbon dioxide. This oxygen rich blood then flows back to the right side of the heart to be used in the systemic circuit. The systemic circuit also does two things: brings oxygen rich blood to the entire body besides the lungs and oxygen depleted blood to the heart. Blood flows out of the left side of the heart to the aorta. Aorta is the name of the artery which brings oxygen rich blood to the entire body. This blood is then transported from the aorta to connecting arteries and capillaries. Diffusion takes place in the capillaries in which the blood becomes oxygen depleted and takes in carbon dioxide, unlike the pulmonary circuit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, reputation may be considered as a component of identity as defined by others [ ]. This essay will talk about a very famous Italian Renaissance artist, considering the circumstances in which such artist had established his reputation. The essay intends to explain the values of the Renaissance era and their qualities, and then to apply this knowledge specifically to the reputation of Michelangelo Buonarroti, the Italian sculptor, painter, architect and poet. The essay first describes the qualities of the Renaissance values in question, then focuses on the specific effects they had on Michelangelo. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His work received traditional criticism as irreligious in terms of its emphasis on the naked human body; since it is presented not as a religious figure but as a real human. His frescos and paintings contained many completely naked characters. In response to such uncommon arts, Roman Catholic Cardinal accused him of immorality and obscenity. The extreme concern for preserving morals led the Cardinal to call for a campaign to have the work removed or censored. Michelangelo was also criticized for his artistic choices, including his emphasis on the physical rather than the spiritual element. In many ways, the Michelangelo style was considered by others frivolous because instead of the focus on religion or the social concerns, the subjects were often contemporaries exploring humanism which was not accepted in Italy at that time. In fact, most of his paintings including David were considered antithetical to the classical tradition of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One specific instance of this is the federal government s poster campaign to instruct the Eskimo mothers about how to use their newly awarded family allowance funds by the Department of National Health and Welfare (148). This campaign created a standard that, despite being mothers and raising children in this land for generations, the Inuit mothers were not capable of providing ... [and] sooner or later it was inevitable that the red skins would make an effort to regain control of the country, massacre and pillage the settlers (67). This description paints a picture of First Nations as unable to escape an almost animalistic urge to kill and destroy that is engrained in their very sense of self. In the press coverage of the 1885 Resistance, we can also see the close ties between the use of the savage stereotype and the childlike Indian. • 8. Civil Disobedience Controversy Throughout history, American citizens have voiced their opposition to certain legislation they felt were immoral. There have been various examples of protest, one of which ignites a lot of controversy; civil disobedience. Civil disobedience has been used by people who felt they were not being heard. Even though there are people who will argue against its effectiveness, this is a way for individuals to take part in their government and promotes a free society. According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, civil disobedience was initially used by Henry David Thoreau in his essay titled Civil Disobedience . Thoreau used this to rationalize his decision not to pay taxes for actions by the government he did not morally agree with. Those after Thoreau used his tactic of civil disobedience to get laws changed through non violent measures (Brownlee). Having publicity also helps activists reach their goals and is often an element that is paid close attention to by the participants (Brownlee). The scene where Rick Blaine, the lead male, is at the bar after seeing Ilsa Lund, his former lover, is the most dramatic moment in the film. The audience first sees Rick alone at the bar drinking. Sam walks in the bar and has a powerful conversation with Rick. The moment that these two characters share is dramatic because the audience is getting to see a side of Rick that hasn t been seen yet. The audience is used to seeing Rick as the perfect man. After he sees Ilsa, he breaks down, which is indicated by his heavy drinking, showing that he has a weakness. The cinematography helps show the dynamic change in Rick. The shot distance allows the audience to see Rick s facial expressions. Although Rick is seen as strong and independent, when he is reunited with Ilsa, he is drawn into a darkness that he is struggling with in the scene; it is easy to see the struggle of man vs. himself and the concept of masculinity. In this scene we see Rick in a vulnerable state after having seen Ilsa for the first time in a year. The camera shot is varied from close ups to medium long shots. When a close up is used the audience can see the emotions on Rick s face more clearly. He is burdened with memories of the past. This breaks with the idea of masculinity because the audience can clearly see that Rick is in distress. Men are burdened with social norms that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The Importance Of Liberal Arts In Business Education Over the years, schools of business education had not seen the need to incorporate liberal arts into their programs. In the past, employment rates for liberal arts majors had been generally low, which caused the school of business to turn away from the major and not want anything to do with it. According to a study conducted at Georgetown University, liberal arts majors were found to have one of the top unemployment rates at 8.4% (Dumbauld, 2016). They have not provided great job opportunities and have left their students paying off large amounts of debt with not a lot of money coming in to pay them. Business once viewed liberal arts as a waste of time, since only certain subjects were being taught. During the 1970s and 1980s, many colleges began to shift from liberal arts to professional education in order to meet students demands and maintain enrollment (Delucchi, 2009, p. 175). With this new restructuring of more business majors being added to the undergraduate curriculum, a demand driven response had risen to changed student interests (Delucchi, 2009, p. 175). Business has become such a popular major because it is needed in so many fields and assures graduates with a stable career path. What connects these different areas is called Conic Sections. Where do they come from? Conic Sections are figures formed by the intersection of a plane and a right circular cone. A conic section may be a circle, an ellipse, a parabola, or a hyperbola . They were first discovered by a Greek mathematician, Menaechmus. He wanted to come up with a model that showed all three different conic sections. With the help of Appollonius, they came up with the Double Napped Cone , which clearly shows all three different shapes. In this project, I m going to study and analyze specifically the ellipse. What is an ellipse? It s the set of points on a plane whose sum of the distance of two fixed points is constant . The main parts on an ellipse are: center, foci and vertices. The focus is the most important and the most used in real life. The foci determine the shape of the ellipse, therefore the vertices, endpoints, major axis and minor axis. The ellipse is found mostly in architecture and astronomy. For example, in London, the St. Paul Cathedral has an elliptical form. Studies have proven that if two people stand at the two foci, and one of them whispers, the other guy can hear it clearly. Yet, after his death Cromwell was seen as a tyrant and a king slayer and the people were tired of living under such strict rules. Regarding politics, debates arose about what effect he had on the political system after his death. It is incontrovertible that his rule was one of the turning points in British history, as Cromwell ensured that a king would never be able to rule on his own. However, nowhere is Cromwell more associated with fevered anti Catholicism and murder than in Ireland. Cromwell came to Ireland in 1649 pursuing two objectives: to place the island firmly under the control of British leaders and to suppress those Royalists who wanted to return to the status quo, in which English monarchy ruled. Those Loyalists and also Irish Catholics were especially a thorn in the side of Cromwell, as he believed they were all potential traitors and willing to help any Catholic uprising that wanted to attack England. Dressed in blue jeans and sweater, this was not her work attire. Perhaps she just had one of those awful migraines she gets at least once a month. Walking through the burnt orange leaves my mom and I pass the main building, and the middle school building. My mom has not said a word. She hits the unlock button twice to enter her Mercury Mountineer. As I sit down to buckle my seatbelt, she parts her lips to speak the unfathomable. At around one o clock today, Aunt Jackie died. • 29. Athletics And Persons With Disabilities Athletics and Persons with Disabilities It wasn t that long ago when the words athletics and persons with disabilities did not belong together. If a person was born with a physical or intellectual disability, sports fell into the group of activities that were excluded from their life. If an athlete acquired a physical or intellectual disability, sports became an activity they could no longer participate in. Sports and athletic pursuits belonged solely to non disabled persons. Persons with disabilities could only watch from the sidelines. Our society did not encourage or support any physical sports programs that allowed persons with disabilities to pursue their athletic dreams. Slowly, a cultural shift has altered our perception of what is possible for persons with disabilities. Part of this shift can be attributed to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960 s. Once the Civil Rights Act was signed into law, the walls of discrimination and segregation began to crumble. Although the Civil Rights Act initially sought to ensure equality for African Americans and other people of color, it eventually expanded to protect other vulnerable classes in our society.1 A piece of legislation that has contributed greatly to the rights of those with disabilities is the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. This legislation is considered as far reaching and important as the Civil Rights Act. The core of the legislation focuses on prohibiting discrimination against persons ... • 31. Essay On Gold Rush Gold Rush in the United States It is amazing how a small gold nugget drew a large mass of miners into Cherokee Nation s grounds. Most people never associate Georgia and gold. Instead they associate Georgia with slaves, plantations, and cotton fields. One of the unusual events in the Gold Rush was the surprising find of gold in Georgia. A three ounce gold nugget was found. People began to search for gold in the caves. Once more gold was found they began to dig for the precious gold nuggets. First, gold was found in Georgia records indicate to have been in 1829. John Witheroods found a three ounce nugget along Duke s Creek in Habersham County (present day) White County . (David Williams) Others will dispute who actually found the first piece of gold nugget. Some people say it was a gentlemen from North Carolina, found gold nugget in the same location. There is no concrete evidence who was the first one to find gold. • 32. Ozone and Global Environmental Politics Essay Ozone and Global Environmental Politics A thin layer of gas called atmosphere surrounds the Earth. The atmosphere serves two important purposes: it is a filter for the suns dangerous ultraviolet radiation rays and keeps the heat, necessary to maintain life on earth, within the stratosphere (Vorlat 361). Ultraviolet light is incredibly dangerous to all the organisms within the Earth s ecosystem because it causes skin cancer, effects the immune system, and harms plant and animal life. For that reason the atmosphere and the ozone layer within it are crucial to a stable life on this planet. The ozone layer is in danger, however. It is facing depletion by a toxic man made substance called chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Together ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... CFCs are a very heavy, very stable chemical often found in things such as air conditioners, refrigerators, fire extinguishers etc. Upon release it can take the chemical up to five years to reach the ozone layer. Once there the sun s rays split the chlorine atom causing it to bond with the ozone atom and in turn destroying it (Kellner 20). A single pound of Freon, a CFC, can destroy as much as 70,000 pounds of ozone (Kellner 20). CFCs are responsible for depleting five percent of the three billion metric tons of ozone in the air, that loss contributed to a twenty to twenty five percent decrease in the ozone over the uppermost northern region of Earth. Not to mention that every time the ozone decreases the increase in skin cancer is two fold (Kellner 20). All of the CFCs being inputted into the atmosphere are causing the depletion of the ozone layer and the result is a hole forming over the Antarctic region. The hole forms every September to November, during the Antarctic spring. In 1998 however, the hole showed up in mid August and in September reached a record size of ten and half million square miles. That is three and a half times the size of the United States. The hole is not really a hole but rather a thinning of the ozone layer. The ozone layer has thinned so much though that patches are left unfilled, giving the appearance of a hole. In 1998 the layer was close to record thinness (Kloor 8). When the hole was ... Marlboro, the leading cigarette brand for Philip Morris, was the dominant player in the premium priced market. At the end of 1992, Marlboro had 24.4% unit market share, while each of the RJR brand cigarettes had less than 7% market share. RJR Phillp Morris was also presumably worried about the aggressive price cuts and promotions by RJR to increase its market share. Goals of Philip Morris Strategy Philip Morris needed a aggressive competitive response to tacklethe threats of: declining market share, increasing share of discount brands, regulation, and RJR s promotions and price cuts. They decided to aggressively attack the existing discount brands and make the Philip Morris brand significantly more price competitive. Philip Morris effectively cut price by 20%, creating 2 tiers of cigarette pricing (from 3 tiers before). Their premium products were now significantly more competitive, compared with the discount brands due to their reduced price and existing strong brand image. Philip Morris were betting that a large portion of consumers would compare their premium product as price competitive with the discount brands, and would chose Marlboro due to its superior brand image and comparable prices. They essentially wanted to win the pricing game and lead with their brand. Surprisingly, they slightly increased the price of their discount brand by a mere 6 cents. This was probably to restrict the range in which the pricing war could be played by other players. Critics of social media and its growing impact would argue that the impersonal nature of social media does not promote action and personal sacrifice so much as it promotes participation in spreading the message of the cause and support of the values of the cause. The argument is made that activists on social media would rather like a page on Facebook or follow a Twitter account than risk their lives for the sake of their causes which is reflected in many statistics that show a low ratio between the amount of likes received on a page and the amount of action taken to aid in fixing the problem being presented; for example, the popular ALS Ice Bucket Challenge that became a world wide internet phenomenon. The food that I use to describe as good food, I am beginning to undoubtedly recognise for the unhealthy junk that it actually is. There are countless others who also notice how horrible these foods are to feed children in school cafeterias. Today, those same cafeterias are tremendously different from the ones I remember from when I was little, and they are always continuously changing. The amount of options we are offered have not lessened, they have simply changed. Instead of having the option to purchase nachos, we now are given the option of baked fries. Also, instead of having a dessert of an innutritious brownie, we now are given a large variety of sweet fruits to choose from instead. While some students distinguish these changes as a catastrophe, I can understand the importance of having students skip dessert during a school lunch. • 42. Lego As A Plastic Injection Machine For Toy Production Essay We all know the classic Legos bricks, but Lego has not always been this well loved toy. Originally Lego was a carpentry business in 1932. It created wooden toys such as a wooden duck. It s first construction toy was the Kirk s Sandgame (Lego, 2012). By 1946 Lego was creating wooden bricks with decorations such as letters and figures. Following World War II plastics became available in Denmark (Wikipedia, 2016). This same year Lego Group purchased its first plastic injection molding machine for toy production (Hansen, 1982). The machine did not arrive until a year later (Lego, 2012). With the machine Lego started building items such as a plastic fish, a plastic sailor, and the game Tiddlywinks (Lego, 2012). One of the first modular toys to be produced was a truck that could be taken apart and re assembled (Wikipedia, 2016). With the new machine Lego received several sample parts showing its capabilities. Among these samples were Hilary Fisher Page s Kiddicraft Self Locking Building Brick (The Automatic Binding Brick, n.d.). From those samples Lego created its first Automatic Binding Brick with four and eight studs (Lego, 2012). They had taken the Kiddicraft brick and modified it by straightening the round corners and converting inches to cm and mm. The studs on the bricks were also flattened on top (The Automatic Binding Brick, n.d.).
