Rome Edict Of Nantes ( 1598 )
PART ONE
Compare/Contrast: 3 paragraphs (Choose ONE): 20%
1. Compare and contrast the Edict of Milan (313) with the Edict of Nantes (1598). In what ways are
they similar and in what ways are they different? Explain the similarities and/or differences between
the two edicts, paying close attention to the texts as well as the specific historical circumstances in
which they were composed.
The Edict of Milan in 313 was declared by Emperor Constantine and Licinius. This declaration called
for toleration of Christianity throughout the Roman Empire and freedom of worship to all Rome s
citizens. It was issued shortly after the end of Christian persecution under the reign of Emperor
Diocletian. Previous to the declaration of this edict, Emperor Constantine decided to march on Italy.
Before advancing, Constantine saw a vision of a symbol of Christianity. He heard a voice that said In
this sign, you will conquer ; and truly he did. As a way of saying thank you to Christians all around the
empire, Constantine passed the Edict of Milan. It gave Christianity a legal status, however, it did not
make it the official religion of the land. St. Bartholomew Day Massacre in 1572 occurred due to the
limited toleration she had towards Protestants. Catholics killed thousands of Protestants on this day.
This caused an uproar throughout the land and turned a political struggle into a religious war. When
Catherine de Medici died, Henry IV was crowned king. The Edict of Nantes in 1598 was

Essay on Being a Professional Working Collaboratively
Throughout this essay I will reflect on and analyse my four week placement experience, which was in
a charitable organisation that promotes healthy living within its local community and the surrounding
areas. I intend to highlight how developing three aspects of their service provision could help improve
inter professional working. The three aspects are the clarification of roles within the organisation,
failures in communication with their partners, and how becoming a community development trust
could benefit them and the community they serve. I will look at the changes they should consider and
the staff that would be involved in these and whether one of the aspects would still meet their quality
requirements. As my placement is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The manager allowed for the staff to discuss their responsibilities by clarifying each of their roles and
any training they had recently attended. She discussed their individual roles and reminded them that
they are also part of a team so they should work together to gain the best possible outcome for the
community. She then asked each of them to discuss with the team what they were currently working
on and what projects they may need support with. This was an effective task as some of the staff
admitted to being unsure of what the others were working on and they then offered their expertise in
certain areas. Having regular staff meetings would be beneficial for this team as having a lot of short
term funding means the staff are unsure of what the other staff are working on. Belbin (2010) states
that teams need to spend time together if they are to continue to be successful, regular team meetings
would allow for the team to come together more regularly and share ideas. I also feel that the manager
should put more of an emphasis on staff training as this would benefit their individual work roles.
Although they are not individually registered with a registering body, they still have to maintain their
own continuing professional development (CPD). At the moment the

Werner Syndrome
Werner syndrome is an autosomal recessive genetic condition associated with the WRN gene (7). The
WRN gene found on chromosome 8 encodes a protein called Werner (4). The Werner protein works as
a helicase assisting in the unwinding of DNA. The helicase belongs to the RecQ helicase family and
assists in DNA repair, maintenance and regulation of telomeres (4). The Werner protein also functions
as an exonuclease that also assists in DNA repair, replication and transcription (4). The Werner protein
has been found to be essential in repairing double stranded breaks during replication fork stalling (3).
The WRN gene and Werner protein demonstrate an essential role in the integrity and stability of DNA.
Mutations and alterations in the WRN gene can

Pragmatism In James Joyce s Araby
Question #1
The first three paragraphs of the tale focus largely on the setting because these setting symbolize the
key concept of the story. Settings strengthen the theme and the characters by using the metaphors of
darkness and light. The experiences of the boy in this story portrays how people often expect more
than the real world can provide and then feel they disappointed and disillusioned.
The author refers to the obscure and dark images to make the reality of boy living in the dreary town
of Araby more eloquent. He uses dark and the bleak references to create the mood or atmosphere and
then refers to the bright light while discussing the Mangan s sister. Bright light is referred to create a
fairy tale world filled with beautiful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He hardly meets or talks to the lady of her dreams. But he builds all his romantic fantasy around her
calm and sedate image which is his backbone in an otherwise drab daily life. His feeling for her
grows. Finally, he met with her dream lady and she refers to a fair called Araby. She does not really
tell him to go to the place but the boy s entire desires now moved to that one specific place. He
conceptualizes this place as a fantasy land filled with the innocence and purity. The rest of the tale is
about the boy s rather delayed and troubled visit to that place. He then finds it as a drab market or
bazaar where everything is so artificial and on sale. He finds human speech meaningless there. This
bazaar seems charmless to the boy and he became severely disappointed. At the end of the story, when
the boy was standing all alone in the dark places, sees himself in the mockery of all his stupidity. It is
a deeply disturbing and yet a learning moment for the boy. It is a slice of experience that will make a
man out of the boy and perhaps a state of the transition for the boy from the dream world to the real

El Nino And Its Effects
El Niño and its Effects Recently, the weather has varied greatly from traditional for many areas within
the United States; the East Coast has had next to zero snow, while Midwest states have been hit by
several heavy snowstorms. Although this change in weather patterns, compared to the average year,
may appear unordinary and confusing, it can be attributed to the fact that a very strong El Niño is
currently underway. El Niño occurs when trade winds in the Pacific Ocean decrease in magnitude,
which in turn results in less upwelling in the ocean off the east coast of South America. Without the
usual amount of upwelling occurring, not as much cold water is brought to the surface, and the water
in the Pacific Ocean, particularly around the equator, becomes much warmer than normal. Although it
may not be blatantly obvious why the temperature of water in the Central Pacific would have such an
effect on the United States, ocean currents and atmospheric circulation are the backbone for climatic
conditions worldwide. The El Niño currently occurring is one of the most powerful on record, and its
effects can be seen, and will increasingly continue to be seen, this winter throughout the United States.
When referring to the strength of an El Niño, researches look at the change from average of
temperature in the Pacific Ocean waters, and the duration of this change. If an El Niño has a
temperature greater than previous El Niño s for at least three months, then it is considered to be

Summary Of The Curse Of The Poisoned Pretzel
Do you believe that Skidmore is guilty of murder? Is Skidmore callous enough to murder his own
brother? An example, of a brother killing his brother despite the objections of his moral compass is
Cain killing his younger brother Abel. Cain was very envious of his younger brother Abel, and killed
him because God favored Abel s sacrifice over his. Likewise, the author, Paul Haven, strongly
suggests to his readers that Skidmore is a murderer, murderer of his own brother. Paul Haven uses
several direct and indirect characterizations of Skidmore to develope the perspective that he indeed
murdered Manchester, without ever stating that Skidmore is actually guilty. Ultimately, the readers of
The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel can conclude that Skidmore is the murderer of his brother from
three main points Paul Haven makes about Skimore: Skidmore is creepy, hates Manchester, and the
ruling of Manchester s death is perposterous and raises suspicion.
The author, Paul Haven, creates the perspective that Skidmore is guilty of murder by strongly stating
that all people think that Skimore is a creepy person. As stated in The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel ,
He gave everyone the creeps (Haven). Implying that Skimore was always a creepy person and is
mentally unstable, creepy. Individuals who posses these qualities have the potential to murder
someone. Likewise, Paul Haven mentions that no one in the story could remember seeing Skidmore s
eyes, implying that Skidmore was kind of soulless

written by Tracey Jackson. James and Tracey have been in the movie business for a long time and they

shopaholic. It did not receive high ratings in the US however it was released in so many other
countries such as: Singapore, Bahrain, Italy, Argentina, Netherlands Germany, Mexico, and South

in terms of culture difference, marriage, and gender between India and The United States.
The movie stars Jesse Metcalfe as Granger and Shriya Saran as Priya, the credit card girl working at
Citi banks call center. Priya resides in Mumbai with her family and she is twenty two. She works for

Brownsville Essay
Before the 1880s, the are of eastern Brooklyn that was to become Brownsville was known as New
Lots. This territory was primarily farmland, but it was also the location of the city s largest waste
dump, as well as the site of several facilities that supplied stone and other building materials. In its
early history, New Lots had a diverse population. English and Irish settlers, Jewish immigrants, and a
small number of African Americans farmed the land. Others were attracted to the area by the open
space and relatively fresh fresh air it provided. Brownsville at one time was a place for waste disposal,
a tenement slum, a haven for Jews before they were accepted, the cradle of a major crime origination,

With more than 100,000 in population, there was one significant hospital, one park, no high school,
and only two notable community centers. Local associations were available and often set goals that
they achieved. The residents of Brownsville used these associations to fight for better services and
counter the negative perception of their neighbors. During 1900s and 1910s religion (Judaism)
permeated the community. The area was once called the Jerusalem of America. This goes to show how
much religion impacted this area. Ohev Sholom was the oldest synagogue in the community, founded
in 1882 by Elias Kaplan s and again in 1883 by Eitz Chaim Machzikei. Among rising synagogues,
there were also a few that was still functioning during the 1950s. Two of the oldest were Beth
Hamedrash Hagodol founded in 1889 and Thilim Kesher Israel founded in 1891.Many synagogues
fought for attention and members due to social interactions and entertainment going on in Brooklyn
and New York City. Residents had the options to attend movies or theater in the borough, travel to
Coney Island or to Central Park, and they were able to take a ferry to Staten Island or the Bronx.
Residents didn t have substantial amounts of money but they had enough to enjoy some form of
entertainment, which was usually the same time that synagogue was in session. Over time, many of

Essay about Rudolfo Anaya’s Bless Me, Ultima
Rudolfo Anaya s Bless Me, Ultima
In Rudolfo Anaya s Bless Me, Ultima, the author uses Tony s dreams as a way of displaying various
symbols. Three symbols that are used often are weather, water, and the Golden Carp. Weather is used
to represent conflict. Water represents cleansing, and rejuvenation. The Golden Carp symbolizes
religion and Tony s beliefs. Because dreams are not an exact mirror of reality, they become the perfect
tool for introducing symbolism. The author uses the dream as a way to access the recurring themes of
the book.
Weather affects the lives of everyone. When the weather turns foul, it makes life more difficult.

His desire is to be washed clean from the haunting memories if Lupito s death. Another reference to
water is the waters of baptism. In Tony s dream his parents argue about what water he was baptized in.
Oh please tell me which is the water that runs through my veins. (Anaya120) The waters of baptism
represent cleansing, but in the dream his parents argue over whether he was baptized with the holy
water of the moon, or the salt water from the oceans. This represents his parent s pulling him in two
opposite directions. Later in this dream Ultima explains to both of Tony s parents that in reality both
of their waters are the same. This shows that Tony is rejuvenated by the idea that he dose not have to
choose between one parent or another, but can take the best of both of them. Because of the water
Tony is able to live his life better. The final example of water being usedas a symbol is in one of
Tony s final dreams. He talks about his brother s livers, They cried in such pain for release that I took
their livers from the hook and cast them into the raging, muddy waters of the River of the Carp. Then
they rested, and I rested. ( Anaya 235) This quote shows that because Antonio can not stop his
brothers from their reckless wondering he instead casts their livers in to the river.

King Lear Character Analysis
In Act III scene 7 of Shakespeare s King Lear, Gloucester returns to his castle after secretly guiding
Lear to safety. Gloucester hoped to avoid any confrontation by Cornwall and Regan, but his son
Edmund, betrayed him and revealed the information. When Gloucester finds Regan and Cornwall,
they accuse him of being a traitor. They are both enraged that he has disobeyed their orders by helping
Lear who was just kicked out during a terrible storm. After some interrogation by Regan, Gloucester
justifies his actions and explains he sided with Lear because he disapproves of Regan and Goneril s
cruelty towards Lear.

Gloucester, now aware of Regan s evil nature, wants to protect Lear from her. He is certain that Regan
would not hesitate to pluck out Lear s eyes given the chance. Gloucester implies it would be more
severe for Lear s eyes to be plucked out than his own beard. Eyes are much more vital and it would
also be significantly more painful to have them gouged out than to have one s beard plucked out. Most
importantly, Gloucester specifically describes Lear s eyes as poor old eyes. Illustrating Lear s eyes as
poor old eyes signifies how Gloucester sympathizes with him. It is clear he is very saddened to see his
friend treated so horribly. Gloucester also acknowledges Lear is getting older and with old age, one s
health such as eyesight can worsen or become poor. However, Gloucester understands Lear s age is all
the more reason why he should be respected, unlike Regan and Goneril.
After Gloucester finishes criticizing Regan, it is clear that his hostility towards Regan also applies to
her sister, Goneril. Gloucester s comments on Goneril are even harsher than Regan s. For example, in
the speech, Gloucester doesn t even refer to her as Goneril, but instead as thy fierce sister. Gloucester
thinks so poorly of Goneril that he does not believe she deserves enough respect to be addressed by
her own name. When Gloucester calls Goneril fierce, it describes her cruel nature. He views her as a
savage human because only a person so vicious would abuse

Objectivity And The Social Responsibility Theory
Part I: Objectivity in journalism is claimed by many media sources yet is one of the hardest things to
find when searching the news. An objective view in journalism associates itself with the social
responsibility theory, in which a person must provide a variety of views for a piece of information
given to the public (Grossber 383). While many journalists may claim they are objective, this type of
communication to the public is difficult to achieve, as a natural bias develops within a person from
their socialization. El Nawawy and Iskandar are cited within The Great American Bubble by Adel
Iskandar, Objectivity has come to imply both a media practice of information collection, processing,
and dissemination, and an overarching attitude (163). As the article also discusses, Fox News is an
openly right winged news source for the public, specifically, their show, The O Reilly Factor, displays
conservative views on current news. Fox does not display complete objectivity in their newsfeeds, yet
they are open about it, which could be described as social responsibility theory in a different way. I
would argue that objectivity is almost impossible to achieve, and in that sense news sources should
openly explain their bias, instead of hiding their own agendas in their information, which would give
social responsibility theory and objectivity a new light.
Part II: Iskandar brings up an important point, saying Who judges whether or not a news story is
objective? Is it the audience

Perception Vs Reality In Paper Towns
Perceived Development vs. Harsh Reality The difference between a story and an impactful story is the
ability to portray a message to an audience. The novel Paper Towns by John Green is an extremely
impactful tale that displays several themes to its readers. However, in converting this story into film,
Margo and Q were unable to receive the proper development they received in the book and therefore it
was detrimental to the theme of Perception versus Reality. Q s character on screen remained very one
dimensional and was not able to truly see the reality of Margo Roth Spiegelman as he does in the
book. In a similar way, the movie did not show Margo s real self. It was distorted by other s
perceptions of her. Without these key developments in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This took away from the idea Perception versus Reality. In the book, it is discovered that, despite what
everyone thought, Margo was not always out experiencing new and exciting things. Instead, she went
urban exploring with upperclassmen and usually sat alone writing. One character even said, She
seemed pretty depressed actually. (Green 205). This detail gives more depth to her character and
makes Margo seem more real, but it was excluded from the screenplay. The audience was not able to
get a glance of the authentic girl behind the mystery, which takes away from the theme. At another
point in the book, Q and his friends discover a grimy, asymmetrical Margo, who reacts harshly to their
presence in her barn. This moment shows the reality of Margo, who is just a regular girl, and this
shatters most of the amazing, cool perceptions Q s friends had for her. This is a crucial moment for
both Margo s characterization and Perception versus Reality in the story, but the movie chose to cut it.
Without these crucial aspects of the novel absent from the movie, Margo s character does not seem to
evolve and the idea of Perception against Reality is lost. Margo and Q are both the main focus of the
story of Paper Towns and their lack of depth in the movie version is very disastrous. It lead to a loss of
intellectual appeal, especially for the themes, like, for example, Perception versus Reality. This loss of
characterization and intellect were caused by deliberate changes made in the movie, which is
unfortunate because it could have been prevented. Instead, the movie takes away from the whole
adventure and deeper meaning in the book. This forces Paper Towns into becoming a shallower and
more linear

Christianity In China
In the 17th century, European missionaries and trade were allowed in China because of their scientific
and technological knowledge. Because of their stay in China, many missionaries and traders began to
adopt Chinese customs and mix them with Catholicism. A group called The Society of Jesus served at
the Imperial court because of their knowledge of astronomy and mechanics (). Although the primary
goal of the Jesuits was to spread Catholicism, they were greatly influenced by the Chinese Confucian
state (). Many of the Jesuits had adapted to Chinese religious lifestyles because of its social influence

no way be interpreted as heathen in nature should be allowed to continue among Chinese converts. ().
Although many Chinese practices and customs were banned to Christians, not every tradition or
custom was considered heathen to the Catholic church. Pope Clement XI stated that the Chinese
customs in managing households and governments should not be interfered with. Only Chinese
customs and traditions that did not contradict with Catholic beliefs could be practiced by Christians. If
any of the traditions or customs became contradictory, they were not tolerated under any
circumstance. Because of Pope Clement s decree, the Kangxi emperor became very angry and banned
Christian missionaries in China. In 1721, the Decree of Kangxi was published and this document
expressed the emperor s anger. Reading this proclamation, I have concluded that the Westerners are
petty indeed. It is impossible to reason with them because they do not understand larger issues as we

The King, A Man With Broad Shoulders And A Muscular Build
This morning, the king received word that a fire snorting dragon was again terrorizing the countryside.
It is scaring the people of his kingdom, and they want to leave their land. He summoned his legion of
knights and advisors to the castle for a meeting. Once before the king sent the royal knights into the
area, they tried to stop the giant lizard from roaming the lowlands and raising havoc in the kingdom.
The knights, in their shiny armor, could not slay the animal. Only chase him back into the mountains.
Should he return to the valleys and fields they would have no option, but to slay him. The king, a tall
man with broad shoulders and a muscular build, is a respected leader on or off the battlefield. He
ordered the tables in the grand ballroom, pushed together to form a square letter U. The knights and
advisers will be sitting on the outside of the tables. The king, wearing his blue robe with the royal
crest, will walk back and forth on the inside of the tables. Looking troubled, the king rested his right
hand on the handle of his sword. As he walked by looking at the people sitting on the other side of the
table, he would, from time to time stroke his white beard with his left hand. With a stern and
demanding look on his face, the king made eye contact with each person sitting on the other side of
the table as he walked by. Stopping when he got to Titus, the king looked the boy for a moment, and

Primary Care Access Essay
Primary Care Access
In today s health care environment many factors contribute to quality care. As a medical practice
manager it is important to provide the best medical service for patients in addition to excellent levels
of service. Appointment scheduling is a very important aspect of a smooth running medical practice.
Appointment cancellation, no shows, and long waiting time by patients have a negative impact on the
efficient running of the practice not only in lost revenue but the practices professional reputation as
well (Kruse 2010).
Goals
To improve services at the ABC Physician Practice Group, we decided to analyze appointment
scheduling to increase patient access to the providers. This was achieved by measuring the Third ...

The 3NA system is also easy to measure and compare to other practices (Solomon 2003).
The average length of time that patients make a request for an appointment and the days between the
times of the appointment day is used for third available appointments which include new patients,
routine exams and return visits. By using the third next available rather than the next available
appointment provides a more accurate indication of appointment availability. According to the
Institute for Health Improvement (2011), An appointment may be open at the time of a request
because of a cancellation or other unexpected event. Using the third next available appointment
eliminates these chance occurrences from the measure of availability (para. 1).
The main goal of using and measuring patient appointment flow is to decrease number of days to third
next available appointment to zero days (Para. 2). Appointments for primary care will be the same day
and for specialty care the decreased number of days will be 2 days. According to Solomon (2003) the
process for scheduling the third available appointment includes the following:
Analytical Tool Used
One method that is use to analyze processes is the Shewhart cycle of plan do study act (PDSA). The
team decided to use PDSA to analyze the Third available appointment because

Viewpoints On Marijuana
Throughout history there has been many viewpoints on marijuana. Marijuana is cannabis sativa, which
is a herbal plant. It s used for both medical and recreational purposes, although when used medically it
has a greater effect for the patient. Marijuana has been legalized in 28 states and statistics collected
during the period of the legalization supported that marijuana helped many patients with serious
diseases, such as aids, and cancer. Other then being used for diseases, marijuana can be used to deal
with stress, sickness, and other disorders. Some people may even use marijuana in place of

Prometheus, A Trickster In Greek Mythology
Jayna Grove Mrs. Wall PAP English I 13 October 2014 The Dexterous Tricksters Have you ever
wondered about how Greek Mythology comes back to us today and how you can find examples in
other cultures? Greek Mythology is full of many great tricksters, however, the trickster that stands out
to me the most is Prometheus. Prometheus was a great trickster for several good reasons. He was the
reason the mortals got the good parts of the animal, and gave them their fire back. When looking for a
trickster from a different culture, Satan tops the list because he was a devious trickster, when he
tempted Eve with the apple. In my modern day example I chose Jerry Mouse because he was a quick
witted trickster who almost always escaped his capturer Tom ... Show more content on

He started out by tricking Eve when he told her You will be like God , wanting Eve to think God was
being selfish. When God said You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat
from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you must surely die , he was
warning Adam and Eve (Life Application Study Bible New International Version, Genesis 2:16 17).
Then when Satan said to Eve, For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and
you will be like God, knowing good and evil , he was trying to convince her to eat from the tree (Life
Application Study Bible New International Version, Genesis 3:5). Satan had tempted Eve when he
said, You will be like God ; which becoming like God wasn t a bad thing to Eve. Then when Satan
told Eve You will not surely die he was implying to her that God was being selfish for not wanting her
to have God s knowledge of good and evil, and that it would be okay to disobey God to get what she
wants in life (Life Application Study Bible New International Version, Genesis 3:4). Therefore all
these statements come to the conclusion that Satan is very deceiving and cunning. Satan has proven
time and time again throughout the Bible, that he was a trickster with many different sly schemes and

Creutzfeldt-Jakob s Disease Research Paper
Creutzfeldt Jakob s Disease affects one person in every million people per year worldwide. In the
United States, there are about three hundred cases per year, making Creutzfeldt Jakob s Disease a rare
disease. However, once the brain is affected, this degenerative, debilitating disease progresses rapidly.
The particles responsible for this rare, fatal disease are called prions. Prions are protienaceous
infectious particles formed when normal proteins misfold and clump together, which causes the brain
to be filled with tiny holes resembling a sponge.
Creutzfeldt Jakob s Disease is categorized under the umbrella of encephalitis, which is a type of
neuromuscular disease. The chief complaint for this disease is failing memory, behavioral changes, ...

In this case, exposure to brain tissue and spinal fluid from infected individuals is the method of
transmission. CJD spreads through grafts of dura mater, transplanted corneas, implantation of

made its appearance, speculation is that vCJD is transmitted to humans through contaminated beef,
from the Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy. A factor that is another concern, is blood transfusion.
Some animal studies show that contaminated and blood related products may transmit the disease,
although no evidence is visible in humans. (Mayor, UK Government Asvises Tighter Measures to

risk of CJD, people should not donate blood, tissue, or organs if they have suspected or confirmed
CJD. Along with these, it is necessary to quarantine all surgical instruments used in brain biopsy

The Hybridization Of Baroque Art
The Baroque period of the 1600 and 1750s began in Europe and defined the art of the time (Stechow
111). Spain s quest for the unity and assimilation to Spanish culture of its subjects in the Americas led
to the systematic suppression and destruction of the indigenous cultures of the regions, such as the
Aztecs and the Incans. Baroque art was only supposed to be another aspect of Spanish culture for the
indigenous population to assimilate to (Gauvin 4, 33 34). However, the Baroque period created an
atmosphere in the Americas that led to a blending of the Spanish and indigenous cultures. The
subsequent art and architecture that was created was a hybrid formed from the cultures coinhabiting
the area. This hybrid form has been characterized as a hidden inscription of difference within the
fictional sameness of official culture, as rebellious graffiti camouflaged in the forest of baroque
symbols (Salgado 317 318). It provided a place for the people of Latin America to subtly celebrate and
preserve their heritage that Spain was threatening. To understand the significance of the cultural
impact that the hybridization of Baroque art had on culture in the Spanish colonies of the New World,
we must first define what hybridization of an art form means. Then we will investigate what
constitutes baroque art and why it was so conducive to being hybridized. To further the understanding
of the hybridization, we will examine the painting Our Lady of Guapulo and the architecture

Analysis Of The Address By Livia Bitton Jackson
I have read several books, poems, and memoirs on WWII and the Holocaust. Diary of Anne Frank,
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, I have Lived a Thousand Years, the list goes on and on. Interestingly,
all of the written works I have read only ever talked about what happened during those events, never
after. It seems that majority of authors skip that part. Why? I do not know. Perhaps they think it will
bore readers because it is not as dramatic. Marga Minco, on the other hand, approaches the subject of
what happens after millions of people are killed in an attempted genocide and a horrible war in her
short story, The Address. While The Address may not be as dramatic as I have Lived a Thousand Years
by Livia Bitton Jackson because it does not take place inside the concentration camp, it certainly
leaves readers thinking about the tragedies that took place around that time period. Writing in an
emotionless style shows how these events affected and changed the narrator. The narrator does not
even recognise her own voice and describes it as strange and unnatural . She speaks in a monotone
fashion when the past is brought up because she is not sure how to handle it emotionally. ... Show

says that after the liberation I felt no interest at all in that stored stuff she is actually saying that after

narrator s fear of the past by describing them as things that had been stored in cases and boxes and
were waiting in vain until they would be put back in their places. Her memories want to be
remembered, she wants to remember the past, but it hurts to think about things that had been part of a

Analysis of Marks Gospel Essay
This research assignment aims to analyse and interpret an influential part of the New Testament Mark
s Gospel. An analysis of Mark and his community will be discussed as well as interpreting Jesus
teachings and his significant theme of Discipleship as it was then and in present society.
A Gospel in general, is a textual document written in narrative form of the good news and teachings
proclaimed by Jesus to announce the power of God. Mark s Gospel is one of four others (Matthew,
Luke and John), where each Gospel has its differences in structure, language and theological slants.
Mark s Gospel is divided into three main sections: The Ministry of Jesus, Jesus prologue of foretelling
his Passion, and his Passion and Death. Mark set out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the Roman society questioned Monotheism, the strength of Mark s community to Jesus had
overthrown their past beliefs, whereby their loyalties had met with the many hardships and dangers of
Roman hierarchy just as Jesus followers did.
The concept of seeing the ways of Jesus and that He is the Messiah, is to truly understand the message
being portrayed throughout the Gospel, and not the surface meaning that is being represented literally.
This concept was very significant to Jesus and his followers as to interpret the meaning without being
said, most parables being related to the Kingdom of God and Jesus miracle stories. Times were harsh
and difficult to spread and teach the words of Jesus, as Mark s community would face persecution.
The disciples of Jesus could see more than other believers could perceive, from being apart of Jesus
life with close relationships, as they were taught the fundamentals from Jesus himself to understand
his teachings in much more depth and fluency than others. There were many similarities among Jesus
twelve disciples and Mark s community, as both groups share the strong faith in Jesus and God s
power by spreading the good news to others as well as experiencing hardships caused by arrogant
hierarchy and society. According to Mark, Jesus was known for his parables and

The Rhetorical Analysis Of Martin Luther s On Christian...
Martin Luther wrote On Christian Liberty, as an attempt to avoid conflict with the Church. In it, he
justifies his beliefs, primarily on the importance of placing faith in Christ above works in the grand
scheme of salvation. Throughout the treatise, he address who a Christian should be, the nature
humanity, and the role he believes faith, works, and ceremonies playing in forming a good Christian.
This, in turn, entices the reader to critique and search of his or her self, what it means to be a good
Christian and how to gain salvation. Within the first few pages of On Christian Liberty, Luther creates
a paradox that causes readers to think deeply about their own role as believers of Christ. In it, he
claims that a Christian is: ...a perfectly free lord of all, subject to none while, at the same time, being a
perfectly dutiful servant, subject to all (pg.2). Through faith, the most important part of a person s
salvation, a Christian gains freedom and liberty. However, a Christian becomes a servant of all
through love, subjecting themselves to the needs of others as Christ did. Luther identifies the two
natures of man as the body and the spirit. These two natures continuously conflict. The body is the
flesh or a person s outward nature while the soul represents the inner person. The bodily nature of
humanity has no bearing on the righteousness of the soul. Luther states that the soul cannot benefit if
the body and flesh is well. Regardless of outward wealth,

Political Poetry by Margaret Atwood Essay
Backdrop addresses cowboy by Margaret Atwood
Creating a masterful poetic movement through the American mythos, Atwood skewers manifest
destiny by embodying the voice of the Other, the discarded I am.
Writing political poetry that artfully confronts dominant ideology thus exposing the motivation and
effects of misrepresentation is a difficult challenge. The process can easily be derailed by temptations
to write strident, overly didactic verse that elevates sentiment above nuance and craft. While passion is
certainly important, it is the poem itself that transforms political intent into a dynamic act of
oppositional literature. To be effective as a statement, it must first be effective as a poem. In Backdrop

Regarded as a heroic figure by the myth of manifest destiny, he is conversely seen as a reckless tyrant
by those who suffer the effects of his violence. The first stanza reveals a comic figure Starspangled
cowboy sauntering through his child like fantasy while pulling a prop from the Hollywood
simulacrum that supports his myth. Atwood complicates this image in the second stanza when she
introduces violence to her almost /silly characterization of the mythical West. Using a line break to
accentuate the transition, she plays the impact of a stand alone line against the expanded meaning of
its grammatical context. Isolated, line six ( you are innocent as a bathtub ) relates directly to the
opening stanza s child like caricature, forming an aphoristic trope that is both interesting and oddly
mundane. Accentuated by the break, the line s reading adds dramatic nuance when its sentence unfolds
into a broader meaning: you are innocent as a bathtub / filled with bullets. Contrasting the ironic
character of opposed readings (innocent and not at all innocent) within the space of shared words,
Atwood foreshadows an overall conceptual structure in which backdrop refers both to the simulacrum
of Hollywood sets and to the genuine environment of a beleaguered world. Despite its obvious
quantitative reference, bathtub / filled with bullets also infers a Hollywood cliché the bullet riddled

Debating the Topics Monism and Vedanta Essay
Monism and Vedanta Philosophical way on humanity, for centuries philosophers have debated on a
topic called Monism. Monists hold the principle that being is purely based upon one critic category of
being this means that either the person is made up of only the body or only the mind (Morris).
Because Animists, Hindus, and Buddhists believe that reality is one and that everything that exists is a
functioning part of that whole which is spirit are for the most part monists. Western people for the
most part may be called a monist also as they believe that God is dead and matter is the only substance

are many people who believe that there are no NON PHYSICAL MINDS, and that we only have

It means the ultimate reality that is behind the universe and all the gods. The Upanishads describe
Brahman as the eternal, the conscious, and infinite. Some pantheist thinkers consider that devotion is

Atomic Mass Of Pure Aluminum Lab Report
Introduction This experiment had two objectives: 1) to determine the atomic mass of pure aluminum,
and 2) to determine the masses of aluminum and zinc in an unknown aluminum alloy. To fulfill both
of these objectives, both pure aluminum and the unknown alloy were reacted with HCl in order to
produce a chemical and H2 gas. The reaction of aluminum and zinc with HCl are found below:
2Al(s) + 6HCl(aq) ⟶ 2AlCl3(aq) + 3H2(g)
2Zn(s) + 6HCl(aq) ⟶ 2ZnCl3(aq) + 3H2(g) Both metal samples would dissolve into liquid HCl,
producing a H2 gas which would then displace grams of H₂O into a previously weighed beaker. The
increased mass of the beaker was then used to determine the amount of moles of H2, which was
subsequently used to determine the moles of aluminum reacted. Using the first reaction shown above
and molar mass ratios, the atomic mass of the pure aluminum sample was found, fulfilling the first
objective. A provided formula in the lab manual was then used to convert moles of H2 into a mass
fraction of aluminum in the unknown alloy, completing the second objective. Results for both
reactions were measured and calculated with the use of provided formulas found in the lab manual.
Observations and Procedure Four trials were conducted in this experiment. The first two trials were
set up to ultimately record the experimental molar mass of aluminum, and the last two trials were set
up to record the percentages of aluminum to zinc in an unknown alloy. The purpose of two trials for

The Day Vesuvius Spoke
Jupiter was not pleased for Vesuvius had awakened after centuries of fuming quietly and mustering it s
strength to one day expel all of its anger that lie dormant beneath the surface. Mount Vesuvius
showered us in rage. Clouds of darkness barreled in and crowded the sky, ash rained from the heavens,
and fire engulfed the city. A day such as this could only be described as Hell on Earth. For most, this
was the beginning of the end.
I was awakened by the violent shake of our house and the smell of smoke that hung in the air nearly
suffocating me. Horror stricken I raced out of bed to the window to see everything covered in ash and
the only thing I could hear were the shrill screams and cries of my neighbors. I made my way into the
atrium only to find my mother weeping into her hands. I haven t seen her so distraught since the day
Papa died; her hair was disheveled, she was still in her night clothing, and there was no sign of
breakfast anywhere. Mother, what is it? I began to panic for fear of what she might say and with every
moment of silence that passed fear filled my heart and tears began to form. It is Vesuvius, he has been
disturbed. The Gods are not pleased with our people we all shall soon perish. Emperor Titus has fled
to a land in the far east and left us defenseless. Her face was white and her eyes appeared as though
she had spent all morning grieving the inevitable. Before I could speak there was a knock at the door.

How Team Dynamics Affect Individual Behavior
Team work is common in almost all workplaces educational settings and can often have many benefits
but also can have some complications that are lesser known. A team can be defined as a body of
people united by a common purpose or joined by a common goal. All groups/teams travel through The
5 Stages of Group Development developed by Bruce Tuckman in 1963. There are many benefits to
team work but individuals working alone can be more effective. Team Dynamics can be greatly
affected by how members interact with one another which is based heavily on the individual

  • 2. Rome Edict Of Nantes ( 1598 ) PART ONE Compare/Contrast: 3 paragraphs (Choose ONE): 20% 1. Compare and contrast the Edict of Milan (313) with the Edict of Nantes (1598). In what ways are they similar and in what ways are they different? Explain the similarities and/or differences between the two edicts, paying close attention to the texts as well as the specific historical circumstances in which they were composed. The Edict of Milan in 313 was declared by Emperor Constantine and Licinius. This declaration called for toleration of Christianity throughout the Roman Empire and freedom of worship to all Rome s citizens. It was issued shortly after the end of Christian persecution under the reign of Emperor Diocletian. Previous to the declaration of this edict, Emperor Constantine decided to march on Italy. Before advancing, Constantine saw a vision of a symbol of Christianity. He heard a voice that said In this sign, you will conquer ; and truly he did. As a way of saying thank you to Christians all around the empire, Constantine passed the Edict of Milan. It gave Christianity a legal status, however, it did not make it the official religion of the land. St. Bartholomew Day Massacre in 1572 occurred due to the limited toleration she had towards Protestants. Catholics killed thousands of Protestants on this day. This caused an uproar throughout the land and turned a political struggle into a religious war. When Catherine de Medici died, Henry IV was crowned king. The Edict of Nantes in 1598 was ... • 3. Essay on Being a Professional Working Collaboratively Throughout this essay I will reflect on and analyse my four week placement experience, which was in a charitable organisation that promotes healthy living within its local community and the surrounding areas. I intend to highlight how developing three aspects of their service provision could help improve inter professional working. The three aspects are the clarification of roles within the organisation, failures in communication with their partners, and how becoming a community development trust could benefit them and the community they serve. I will look at the changes they should consider and the staff that would be involved in these and whether one of the aspects would still meet their quality requirements. As my placement is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The manager allowed for the staff to discuss their responsibilities by clarifying each of their roles and any training they had recently attended. She discussed their individual roles and reminded them that they are also part of a team so they should work together to gain the best possible outcome for the community. She then asked each of them to discuss with the team what they were currently working on and what projects they may need support with. This was an effective task as some of the staff admitted to being unsure of what the others were working on and they then offered their expertise in certain areas. Having regular staff meetings would be beneficial for this team as having a lot of short term funding means the staff are unsure of what the other staff are working on. Belbin (2010) states that teams need to spend time together if they are to continue to be successful, regular team meetings would allow for the team to come together more regularly and share ideas. I also feel that the manager should put more of an emphasis on staff training as this would benefit their individual work roles. Although they are not individually registered with a registering body, they still have to maintain their own continuing professional development (CPD). At the moment the ... • 4. Werner Syndrome Werner syndrome is an autosomal recessive genetic condition associated with the WRN gene (7). The WRN gene found on chromosome 8 encodes a protein called Werner (4). The Werner protein works as a helicase assisting in the unwinding of DNA. The helicase belongs to the RecQ helicase family and assists in DNA repair, maintenance and regulation of telomeres (4). The Werner protein also functions as an exonuclease that also assists in DNA repair, replication and transcription (4). The Werner protein has been found to be essential in repairing double stranded breaks during replication fork stalling (3). The WRN gene and Werner protein demonstrate an essential role in the integrity and stability of DNA. Mutations and alterations in the WRN gene can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Pragmatism In James Joyce s Araby Question #1 The first three paragraphs of the tale focus largely on the setting because these setting symbolize the key concept of the story. Settings strengthen the theme and the characters by using the metaphors of darkness and light. The experiences of the boy in this story portrays how people often expect more than the real world can provide and then feel they disappointed and disillusioned. The author refers to the obscure and dark images to make the reality of boy living in the dreary town of Araby more eloquent. He uses dark and the bleak references to create the mood or atmosphere and then refers to the bright light while discussing the Mangan s sister. Bright light is referred to create a fairy tale world filled with beautiful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He hardly meets or talks to the lady of her dreams. But he builds all his romantic fantasy around her calm and sedate image which is his backbone in an otherwise drab daily life. His feeling for her grows. Finally, he met with her dream lady and she refers to a fair called Araby. She does not really tell him to go to the place but the boy s entire desires now moved to that one specific place. He conceptualizes this place as a fantasy land filled with the innocence and purity. The rest of the tale is about the boy s rather delayed and troubled visit to that place. He then finds it as a drab market or bazaar where everything is so artificial and on sale. He finds human speech meaningless there. This bazaar seems charmless to the boy and he became severely disappointed. At the end of the story, when the boy was standing all alone in the dark places, sees himself in the mockery of all his stupidity. It is a deeply disturbing and yet a learning moment for the boy. It is a slice of experience that will make a man out of the boy and perhaps a state of the transition for the boy from the dream world to the real ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. El Nino And Its Effects El Niño and its Effects Recently, the weather has varied greatly from traditional for many areas within the United States; the East Coast has had next to zero snow, while Midwest states have been hit by several heavy snowstorms. Although this change in weather patterns, compared to the average year, may appear unordinary and confusing, it can be attributed to the fact that a very strong El Niño is currently underway. El Niño occurs when trade winds in the Pacific Ocean decrease in magnitude, which in turn results in less upwelling in the ocean off the east coast of South America. Without the usual amount of upwelling occurring, not as much cold water is brought to the surface, and the water in the Pacific Ocean, particularly around the equator, becomes much warmer than normal. Although it may not be blatantly obvious why the temperature of water in the Central Pacific would have such an effect on the United States, ocean currents and atmospheric circulation are the backbone for climatic conditions worldwide. The El Niño currently occurring is one of the most powerful on record, and its effects can be seen, and will increasingly continue to be seen, this winter throughout the United States. When referring to the strength of an El Niño, researches look at the change from average of temperature in the Pacific Ocean waters, and the duration of this change. If an El Niño has a temperature greater than previous El Niño s for at least three months, then it is considered to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Summary Of The Curse Of The Poisoned Pretzel Do you believe that Skidmore is guilty of murder? Is Skidmore callous enough to murder his own brother? An example, of a brother killing his brother despite the objections of his moral compass is Cain killing his younger brother Abel. Cain was very envious of his younger brother Abel, and killed him because God favored Abel s sacrifice over his. Likewise, the author, Paul Haven, strongly suggests to his readers that Skidmore is a murderer, murderer of his own brother. Paul Haven uses several direct and indirect characterizations of Skidmore to develope the perspective that he indeed murdered Manchester, without ever stating that Skidmore is actually guilty. Ultimately, the readers of The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel can conclude that Skidmore is the murderer of his brother from three main points Paul Haven makes about Skimore: Skidmore is creepy, hates Manchester, and the ruling of Manchester s death is perposterous and raises suspicion. The author, Paul Haven, creates the perspective that Skidmore is guilty of murder by strongly stating that all people think that Skimore is a creepy person. As stated in The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel , He gave everyone the creeps (Haven). Implying that Skimore was always a creepy person and is mentally unstable, creepy. Individuals who posses these qualities have the potential to murder someone. Likewise, Paul Haven mentions that no one in the story could remember seeing Skidmore s eyes, implying that Skidmore was kind of soulless ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. On the Other End of the Line On the other end of the line was released October 31st 2008. It was directed by James Dobson and written by Tracey Jackson. James and Tracey have been in the movie business for a long time and they have other projects that were very successful. Tracey is known for the movie confessions of a shopaholic. It did not receive high ratings in the US however it was released in so many other countries such as: Singapore, Bahrain, Italy, Argentina, Netherlands Germany, Mexico, and South Korea. The movie is a romantic comedic, chick flick . However I believe the movie has a lot to offer in terms of culture difference, marriage, and gender between India and The United States. The movie stars Jesse Metcalfe as Granger and Shriya Saran as Priya, the credit card girl working at Citi banks call center. Priya resides in Mumbai with her family and she is twenty two. She works for City banks call center with her best friend. Her family is not very wealthy but they do work hard. Her father sells insurance and her mother is a stay at home mom. She has a younger brother. Her job requires her to work over night to accommodate the time difference between America and India. This issue forces her and her family to not spend too much time as a family according to her father. On the other side Granger is a New Yorker in advertising. This territory was primarily farmland, but it was also the location of the city s largest waste dump, as well as the site of several facilities that supplied stone and other building materials. In its early history, New Lots had a diverse population. English and Irish settlers, Jewish immigrants, and a small number of African Americans farmed the land. Others were attracted to the area by the open space and relatively fresh fresh air it provided. Brownsville at one time was a place for waste disposal, a tenement slum, a haven for Jews before they were accepted, the cradle of a major crime origination, a testing ground for public housing and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With more than 100,000 in population, there was one significant hospital, one park, no high school, and only two notable community centers. Local associations were available and often set goals that they achieved. The residents of Brownsville used these associations to fight for better services and counter the negative perception of their neighbors. During 1900s and 1910s religion (Judaism) permeated the community. The area was once called the Jerusalem of America. This goes to show how much religion impacted this area. Ohev Sholom was the oldest synagogue in the community, founded in 1882 by Elias Kaplan s and again in 1883 by Eitz Chaim Machzikei. Among rising synagogues, there were also a few that was still functioning during the 1950s. Two of the oldest were Beth Hamedrash Hagodol founded in 1889 and Thilim Kesher Israel founded in 1891.Many synagogues fought for attention and members due to social interactions and entertainment going on in Brooklyn and New York City. Residents had the options to attend movies or theater in the borough, travel to Coney Island or to Central Park, and they were able to take a ferry to Staten Island or the Bronx. Residents didn t have substantial amounts of money but they had enough to enjoy some form of entertainment, which was usually the same time that synagogue was in session. Over time, many of the ... • 10. Essay about Rudolfo Anaya’s Bless Me, Ultima Rudolfo Anaya s Bless Me, Ultima In Rudolfo Anaya s Bless Me, Ultima, the author uses Tony s dreams as a way of displaying various symbols. Three symbols that are used often are weather, water, and the Golden Carp. Weather is used to represent conflict. Water represents cleansing, and rejuvenation. The Golden Carp symbolizes religion and Tony s beliefs. Because dreams are not an exact mirror of reality, they become the perfect tool for introducing symbolism. The author uses the dream as a way to access the recurring themes of the book. Weather affects the lives of everyone. When the weather turns foul, it makes life more difficult. His desire is to be washed clean from the haunting memories if Lupito s death. Another reference to water is the waters of baptism. In Tony s dream his parents argue about what water he was baptized in. Oh please tell me which is the water that runs through my veins. (Anaya120) The waters of baptism represent cleansing, but in the dream his parents argue over whether he was baptized with the holy water of the moon, or the salt water from the oceans. This represents his parent s pulling him in two opposite directions. Later in this dream Ultima explains to both of Tony s parents that in reality both of their waters are the same. This shows that Tony is rejuvenated by the idea that he dose not have to choose between one parent or another, but can take the best of both of them. Because of the water Tony is able to live his life better. The final example of water being usedas a symbol is in one of Tony s final dreams. He talks about his brother s livers, They cried in such pain for release that I took their livers from the hook and cast them into the raging, muddy waters of the River of the Carp. Then they rested, and I rested. ( Anaya 235) This quote shows that because Antonio can not stop his brothers from their reckless wondering he instead casts their livers in to the river. ... Gloucester hoped to avoid any confrontation by Cornwall and Regan, but his son Edmund, betrayed him and revealed the information. When Gloucester finds Regan and Cornwall, they accuse him of being a traitor. They are both enraged that he has disobeyed their orders by helping Lear who was just kicked out during a terrible storm. Gloucester, now aware of Regan s evil nature, wants to protect Lear from her. He is certain that Regan would not hesitate to pluck out Lear s eyes given the chance. Gloucester implies it would be more severe for Lear s eyes to be plucked out than his own beard. Eyes are much more vital and it would also be significantly more painful to have them gouged out than to have one s beard plucked out. Most importantly, Gloucester specifically describes Lear s eyes as poor old eyes. Illustrating Lear s eyes as poor old eyes signifies how Gloucester sympathizes with him. It is clear he is very saddened to see his friend treated so horribly. Gloucester also acknowledges Lear is getting older and with old age, one s health such as eyesight can worsen or become poor. However, Gloucester understands Lear s age is all the more reason why he should be respected, unlike Regan and Goneril. After Gloucester finishes criticizing Regan, it is clear that his hostility towards Regan also applies to her sister, Goneril. Gloucester s comments on Goneril are even harsher than Regan s. For example, in the speech, Gloucester doesn t even refer to her as Goneril, but instead as thy fierce sister. Gloucester thinks so poorly of Goneril that he does not believe she deserves enough respect to be addressed by her own name. When Gloucester calls Goneril fierce, it describes her cruel nature. • 12. Objectivity And The Social Responsibility Theory Part I: Objectivity in journalism is claimed by many media sources yet is one of the hardest things to find when searching the news. An objective view in journalism associates itself with the social responsibility theory, in which a person must provide a variety of views for a piece of information given to the public (Grossber 383). While many journalists may claim they are objective, this type of communication to the public is difficult to achieve, as a natural bias develops within a person from their socialization. El Nawawy and Iskandar are cited within The Great American Bubble by Adel Iskandar, Objectivity has come to imply both a media practice of information collection, processing, and dissemination, and an overarching attitude (163). As the article also discusses, Fox News is an openly right winged news source for the public, specifically, their show, The O Reilly Factor, displays conservative views on current news. Fox does not display complete objectivity in their newsfeeds, yet they are open about it, which could be described as social responsibility theory in a different way. I would argue that objectivity is almost impossible to achieve, and in that sense news sources should openly explain their bias, instead of hiding their own agendas in their information, which would give social responsibility theory and objectivity a new light. Part II: Iskandar brings up an important point, saying Who judges whether or not a news story is objective? Is it the audience ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The novel Paper Towns by John Green is an extremely impactful tale that displays several themes to its readers. However, in converting this story into film, Margo and Q were unable to receive the proper development they received in the book and therefore it was detrimental to the theme of Perception versus Reality. This detail gives more depth to her character and makes Margo seem more real, but it was excluded from the screenplay. The audience was not able to get a glance of the authentic girl behind the mystery, which takes away from the theme. At another point in the book, Q and his friends discover a grimy, asymmetrical Margo, who reacts harshly to their presence in her barn. This moment shows the reality of Margo, who is just a regular girl, and this shatters most of the amazing, cool perceptions Q s friends had for her. This is a crucial moment for both Margo s characterization and Perception versus Reality in the story, but the movie chose to cut it. Without these crucial aspects of the novel absent from the movie, Margo s character does not seem to evolve and the idea of Perception against Reality is lost. Margo and Q are both the main focus of the story of Paper Towns and their lack of depth in the movie version is very disastrous. It lead to a loss of intellectual appeal, especially for the themes, like, for example, Perception versus Reality. • 26. The Hybridization Of Baroque Art The Baroque period of the 1600 and 1750s began in Europe and defined the art of the time (Stechow 111). Spain s quest for the unity and assimilation to Spanish culture of its subjects in the Americas led to the systematic suppression and destruction of the indigenous cultures of the regions, such as the Aztecs and the Incans. Baroque art was only supposed to be another aspect of Spanish culture for the indigenous population to assimilate to (Gauvin 4, 33 34). However, the Baroque period created an atmosphere in the Americas that led to a blending of the Spanish and indigenous cultures. The subsequent art and architecture that was created was a hybrid formed from the cultures coinhabiting the area. This hybrid form has been characterized as a hidden inscription of difference within the fictional sameness of official culture, as rebellious graffiti camouflaged in the forest of baroque symbols (Salgado 317 318). It provided a place for the people of Latin America to subtly celebrate and preserve their heritage that Spain was threatening. To understand the significance of the cultural impact that the hybridization of Baroque art had on culture in the Spanish colonies of the New World, we must first define what hybridization of an art form means. While The Address may not be as dramatic as I have Lived a Thousand Years by Livia Bitton Jackson because it does not take place inside the concentration camp, it certainly leaves readers thinking about the tragedies that took place around that time period. • 29. The Rhetorical Analysis Of Martin Luther s On Christian... Martin Luther wrote On Christian Liberty, as an attempt to avoid conflict with the Church. In it, he justifies his beliefs, primarily on the importance of placing faith in Christ above works in the grand scheme of salvation. Throughout the treatise, he address who a Christian should be, the nature humanity, and the role he believes faith, works, and ceremonies playing in forming a good Christian. This, in turn, entices the reader to critique and search of his or her self, what it means to be a good Christian and how to gain salvation. Within the first few pages of On Christian Liberty, Luther creates a paradox that causes readers to think deeply about their own role as believers of Christ. In it, he claims that a Christian is: ...a perfectly free lord of all, subject to none while, at the same time, being a perfectly dutiful servant, subject to all (pg.2). Through faith, the most important part of a person s salvation, a Christian gains freedom and liberty. However, a Christian becomes a servant of all through love, subjecting themselves to the needs of others as Christ did. Luther identifies the two natures of man as the body and the spirit. These two natures continuously conflict. The body is the flesh or a person s outward nature while the soul represents the inner person. The bodily nature of humanity has no bearing on the righteousness of the soul. Luther states that the soul cannot benefit if the body and flesh is well. Regardless of outward wealth, ... • 32. Political Poetry by Margaret Atwood Essay Backdrop addresses cowboy by Margaret Atwood Creating a masterful poetic movement through the American mythos, Atwood skewers manifest destiny by embodying the voice of the Other, the discarded I am. Writing political poetry that artfully confronts dominant ideology thus exposing the motivation and effects of misrepresentation is a difficult challenge. The process can easily be derailed by temptations to write strident, overly didactic verse that elevates sentiment above nuance and craft. While passion is certainly important, it is the poem itself that transforms political intent into a dynamic act of oppositional literature. To be effective as a statement, it must first be effective as a poem. In Backdrop addresses cowboy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regarded as a heroic figure by the myth of manifest destiny, he is conversely seen as a reckless tyrant by those who suffer the effects of his violence. The first stanza reveals a comic figure Starspangled cowboy sauntering through his child like fantasy while pulling a prop from the Hollywood simulacrum that supports his myth. Atwood complicates this image in the second stanza when she introduces violence to her almost /silly characterization of the mythical West. Using a line break to accentuate the transition, she plays the impact of a stand alone line against the expanded meaning of its grammatical context. Isolated, line six ( you are innocent as a bathtub ) relates directly to the opening stanza s child like caricature, forming an aphoristic trope that is both interesting and oddly mundane. Accentuated by the break, the line s reading adds dramatic nuance when its sentence unfolds into a broader meaning: you are innocent as a bathtub / filled with bullets. Contrasting the ironic character of opposed readings (innocent and not at all innocent) within the space of shared words, Atwood foreshadows an overall conceptual structure in which backdrop refers both to the simulacrum of Hollywood sets and to the genuine environment of a beleaguered world. Despite its obvious quantitative reference, bathtub / filled with bullets also infers a Hollywood clichĂ© the bullet riddled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Debating the Topics Monism and Vedanta Essay Monism and Vedanta Philosophical way on humanity, for centuries philosophers have debated on a topic called Monism. Monists hold the principle that being is purely based upon one critic category of being this means that either the person is made up of only the body or only the mind (Morris). Because Animists, Hindus, and Buddhists believe that reality is one and that everything that exists is a functioning part of that whole which is spirit are for the most part monists. Western people for the most part may be called a monist also as they believe that God is dead and matter is the only substance to reality. And with all this mounting evidence there are many people who believe that there are no NON PHYSICAL MINDS, and that we only have BRAINS, and these people are called Monist. The Upanishads is called the ultimate reality Brahman. It means the ultimate reality that is behind the universe and all the gods. The Upanishads describe Brahman as the eternal, the conscious, and infinite. Some pantheist thinkers consider that devotion is nothing but an easier path towards reaching the same remote union with the impersonal Ultimate Reality, towards attaining the death of personhood, the main source of illusion which is called Maya. Maya being the biggest illusion of reality, it makes a person Avidya or in simple language ignorant. It is explained in the Upanishads that Moksha is the most important factor, because it is called the freedom, it brings a person to a point in life where they don t need to reincarnate because they have reached the high aspire of life, and got Moksha (simple words free from the world). Samasara (world) is the cycle of death and life and rebirth. To get Moksha from the Samasara you have to completely understand the Brahman and accept ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Atomic Mass Of Pure Aluminum Lab Report Introduction This experiment had two objectives: 1) to determine the atomic mass of pure aluminum, and 2) to determine the masses of aluminum and zinc in an unknown aluminum alloy. To fulfill both of these objectives, both pure aluminum and the unknown alloy were reacted with HCl in order to produce a chemical and H2 gas. The reaction of aluminum and zinc with HCl are found below: 2Al(s) + 6HCl(aq) ⟶ 2AlCl3(aq) + 3H2(g) 2Zn(s) + 6HCl(aq) ⟶ 2ZnCl3(aq) + 3H2(g) Both metal samples would dissolve into liquid HCl, producing a H2 gas which would then displace grams of H₂O into a previously weighed beaker. The increased mass of the beaker was then used to determine the amount of moles of H2, which was subsequently used to determine the moles of aluminum reacted. Using the first reaction shown above and molar mass ratios, the atomic mass of the pure aluminum sample was found, fulfilling the first objective. A provided formula in the lab manual was then used to convert moles of H2 into a mass fraction of aluminum in the unknown alloy, completing the second objective. Results for both reactions were measured and calculated with the use of provided formulas found in the lab manual. Observations and Procedure Four trials were conducted in this experiment. The first two trials were set up to ultimately record the experimental molar mass of aluminum, and the last two trials were set up to record the percentages of aluminum to zinc in an unknown alloy. The purpose of two trials for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Day Vesuvius Spoke Jupiter was not pleased for Vesuvius had awakened after centuries of fuming quietly and mustering it s strength to one day expel all of its anger that lie dormant beneath the surface. Mount Vesuvius showered us in rage. Clouds of darkness barreled in and crowded the sky, ash rained from the heavens, and fire engulfed the city. A day such as this could only be described as Hell on Earth. For most, this was the beginning of the end. I was awakened by the violent shake of our house and the smell of smoke that hung in the air nearly suffocating me. Horror stricken I raced out of bed to the window to see everything covered in ash and the only thing I could hear were the shrill screams and cries of my neighbors. I made my way into the atrium only to find my mother weeping into her hands. I haven t seen her so distraught since the day Papa died; her hair was disheveled, she was still in her night clothing, and there was no sign of breakfast anywhere. Mother, what is it? I began to panic for fear of what she might say and with every moment of silence that passed fear filled my heart and tears began to form. It is Vesuvius, he has been disturbed. The Gods are not pleased with our people we all shall soon perish. Emperor Titus has fled to a land in the far east and left us defenseless. Her face was white and her eyes appeared as though she had spent all morning grieving the inevitable. Before I could speak there was a knock at the door. Brutus, one of our neighbors and ...
