Lily Bart
Lily Bart, the protagonist of an Edith Wharton novel titled The House of Mirth, experiences numerous
hardships throughout her life. She is a twenty nine year old bachelorette who strives to be wealthy; she
was raised by very prosperous parents who conditioned her to hate dinginess but is not fortunate
enough to live a lifestyle tantamount to the one her parents had as adults. Many times throughout the
novel, the people in which Lily Bart associate try to lend her a helping hand. However, more often
than not, Bart does not accept their gestures or does not take their advice into consideration. The very
few times Bart ever allows herself to be supported by anyone around her is when she has personally
asked them due to being in a serious downfall. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before her mother and father had died, she was raised very properly by her mother who hated
dinginess and believed one must always present themselves nicely. The narrator remarks, ...she had
been brought up in the faith that, whatever it cost, one must have a good cook, and be what Mrs. Bart
called decently dressed (34). Therefore, Bart always wanted the nicest things and was never
conditioned to live in a world without them. When her parents die and she ends up living with her
aunt, Mrs. Julia Peniston, she is not accustom to not having money at her disposal. Mrs. Peniston
sends her checks at random times and it is hard for Bart to do things like spend time at Bellomont with
her wealthy peers when she does not have nearly enough money as she would like. When Mrs.
Peniston dies at the end of book one, it is written in her will that Lily Bart shall receive only $10,000
whereas her cousin, Grace Stepney received Mrs. Peniston s whole estate. Although Mrs. Peniston
only gives Bart $10,000 due to the fact that she is furious with her about her gambling debts and other
things she has heard about her, Bart is not able to control this. The way Lily Bart was raised and Mrs.
Peniston s not so generous gesture make it hard for Bart to recover from her already descending

Summary Of Blaise s False
Blaise launches into the air and scans the sky for Styles. The flabby man screams in fear as he hurls
toward the ground a breakneck speed. Hold on Styles! Blaise makes a motion with his hands and the
big man begins to slow down. The sound of a woman screaming above him commands his attention
next. Titanika is white as a sheet as she watches the ground rushing up at her. Anika! Blaise shouts as
he reaches toward her. Like Styles, she too begins to slow her descent. A few moments later, all three
rune bearers touch down and sprawl on the ground. Can we never do that again, please? Titanika
rasps, still trying to calm her nerves. Before anyone can respond, Scarlett appears beside Titanika and
reaches for her again. No! Blaise commands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cinderella And Sexton s Cinderella
Cinderella is one of the most well‐known stories in the country. She is a beautiful young woman that
is treated badly but in the end lives happily ever with a prince. Almost every culture has a Cinderella
story, with different culture details. The Walt Disney Cinderella is strong, and romantic, where the
character Cinderella goes through so much with the stepsisters and stepmother and end up living
happily ever after. However, in Anne Sexton version of Cinderella , the stepsisters were violently
punished for mistreating Cinderella. Even though the Walt Disney Cinderella and Sexton s Cinderella
are similar in the names, contact with the prince, and themes, they differ in their cultural details,
godmother figures, and magical
transformations.

Auxin Is Better Than Natural Auxin Analysis
Plant hormones are chemical signals released by a tissue and delivered to a receptor tissue. Auxin is
the hormone most commonly found in plants. Auxin regulates and aids in the development of plants
(Kazan 2013). The acid growth hypothesis states that an acidic ph will enhance the effects of auxin in
seed development and plant growth. Radish seeds were planted in acidic soil and administered natural
and synthetic auxin in order to test for the effect of synthetic auxin in an acidic soil on plant growth.
The reason for this experiment is to test whether or not synthetic (man made) auxin works better than
natural auxin in growth development. It was found that the natural kind of auxin works better in an
acidic environment than synthetic auxin.

After the process of pollination and the development of the embryo stops, a seed is formed. The seed
will remain dormant until it comes in contact with water which causes gibberellins (a type of plant
hormone) to be released which will trigger the layer covering the embryo to produce enzymes needed
to break down the endosperm and release the nutrients that are stored there. Those nutrients will be
used by the embryo for growth. Hormones are chemical substances that help and regulate plant growth
and aid in seed germination (Gutzler and Brewer 2013). There are seven different types of plant
hormones and they all trigger specific reactions. One of the first hormones discovered in plants was
Auxin. Auxin is known to aid in stem elongation and shape direction of growth (Gutzler and Brewer
2013). There are many different kinds of auxin. Indoleacetic acid (IAA) and Naphthalene acetic acid
(NAA) are two of the most common types, both will be used in the

The Usefulness Of Viral Vectors
The Usefulness of Viral Vectors in Treating Dravet Syndrome
Voltage gated sodium channels initiate the development action potentials in neurons; mutations of
genes encoding these channels are responsible for genetic epilepsy syndromes with varying degrees of
severity1. Dravet syndrome, or severe myoclonic epilepsy of infancy (SMEI), is a complex and severe
form of childhood epilepsy, caused by a nonsense mutation in the sodium voltage gated channel alpha
subunit 1 (SCN1a) gene. Severe loss of function mutation in Nav1.1 causes SMEI, which involves
intractable epilepsy, ataxia, and cognitive impairment 1. It is important to study this disease because of
its early mortality in children and because of its high resistance to drug therapy 2. ... Show more

Adeno associated viral vectors (AAV):
Adeno associated viral vectors are non enveloped single stranded DNA viruses used in treating
diseases of the central nervous system 3. AAV vectors have been widely used in clinical trials to
deliver therapeutic genes to mutated ones, and are efficient and safe in vivo application3. However
one major drawback is the limited packaging capacity for genes with larger sizes 3. Fortunately, this
can be overcome with the treatment of the dystrophin gene (DMD), which encodes the cohesive
protein dystrophin that supports the cytoskeleton of a cell3. There are two methods can be used with
AAV vectors to decrease the duration of epilepsy: inducing somatostatin into AAV vectors and direct
injection of glial targeting AAV vectors.
Method 1:
Somatostatin (SST) is a neuromodulator known to have diverse functions in sleep and motor activity
and it plays a putative anticonvulsant role, such as in maintaining hippocampal homeostasis4. Some
studies have suggested that AAV vector mediated expression of SST suppresses hippocampus related
seizure development in rats4. Viral vector gene therapy using SST as an anti seizure related
neuropeptide in a kindling model of epilepsy was implemented, where over successive electrical
stimulation of the same intensity, seizures evolve from partial to generalized states 4. The duration of
seizures was lower for the vector infused with SST (pAAV CBa SST), than compared to the vector
that was

Under Armour Executive Summary
The athletic footwear and apparel industry is extremely competitive but Under Armour has been able
to establish a strong market share in the U.S. The industry is profitable and has a history of robust
sales, profit growth, and solid credit metrics. The industry as a whole is believed to be more recession
resistant than many consumer discretionary categories, because of lifestyle and the relatively low cost
basis. The synthetic performance apparel market represents about a $3 billion market and presently,
Under Armour is the leader with an estimated 60% of the market share. The activewear market as a
whole is about a $58 billion market. Under Armour has opportunities for growth ahead of them but it

If a competitor successfully duplicates Under Armour s product, their business will be in jeopardy.
They continue to outsource their core competency and risk a manufacturer replicating their technology
for a competitor. High labor costs is a threat for Under Armour since wages have increased in in key
labor markets. Rising wages may impact the company s margin of profit. In China, workers wages
have been climbing between years 2000 and 2014 where the average wage bill in China s
manufacturing sector increased at a 13.7% annual rate, or close to six times the overall inflation rate.
In contrast, the hourly compensation of manufacturing workers in the United States increased at 2.9%
annual rate during the same period, or 0.6% points faster than growth in consumer prices. Between
2000 and 2013, annualized manufacturing wage gains were, for example, 6.5% in Brazil, 5.4% in the
Philippines, 6.7% in South Korea, and 7.9% in Poland. Additionally it was noted in 2016 that global
consumer discretionary spending has declined but the sporting goods industry is more resilient and

Who Is Willy Loman s Blind Faith In Death Of A Salesman
Why racism pretends to be an issue when it s not? In Death of a Salesman by Arthur miller, Willy
Loman s blind faith in his stunted version of the American Dream leads to his rapid psychological
debility when he is unable to accept the disparity between the Dream and his own life. Miller explains
that Lorman killed himself to provide a better a life for his family cause of his mistakes chasing the
unknown dream. He also mentions how he refused to accept failure and demanded the appearance of
utmost confidence in his household. First I m going to talk about why the play of Death of a Salesman
is universal, and second about why I think every culture can relate to the story.
The play is universal and non racial. According to John Lahr s review Hard Sell , the play of death of a
Salesman has been a failure for black actors. He believes during 1949 that staging all white production
of a play is a senseless idea for a black during that time. He explains that ... Show more content on

Source: 2017, Christopher R. Wilder (Mid life crisis)
Over the past few weeks, I have been with Intel Corporation understanding their Internet of Things
(IoT) product roadmaps from security, healthcare, retail, energy, smart cities, and of most interest is
leveraging IoT to extend the customer experience. This week I will be in the Bay Area with Intel s
Autonomous Vehicle (AV) team getting a deeper dive into their vision for the future of mobility.
Across the board, one of the things that have impressed me most with Intel s overall IoT strategy is
their focus on experience, rather than just on technology although the tech is impressive too.
Moving AV beyond just a science experiment
Intel and it s Mobileye division believes autonomous driving is not a just a product; it is an industry.
As the industry advances, Intel is working diligently to be the tip of the spear when it comes to safety,
technology, standards, and sustainability. Recently, Intel s Mobileye released a framework to help
automakers, technology companies, and regulators to understand the fundamental pillars of safety
assurance and economic scalability in this highly fragmented and heterogeneous marketplace.

True Despair Short Story
True Despair
Four years ago today was his first time feeling true happiness. Now the day reminds him of how badly
he messed up one year ago. Just one wrong turn led to a life of despair.
It was his last time ever experiencing true happiness. Four years ago, Jeff was still in college when he
met the girl of his dreams, or so he thought. Her name was Jessica. Jess was a quiet girl, but one day
in the hall Jess bumped into Jeff and after that, it was love at first sight, though the both of them were
too shy to say anything at first, they both knew from a spark in their eyes that they were destined to be
together in someway.
Over a year both Jess and Jeff were both going about their lives as average everyday students in
college. Jeff attending his classes, doing his chores around his dorm, and keeping up with his family
as they lived far from the college he was attending.Jess usually hanging with her friends, keeping up
with class work and playing video games online. They only saw each other in the hall every now and
then until, by some random chance of fate, they both chose the same class and were placed together,
and that s when Jess thought that she had the courage to tell him how she really felt but she was too
shy, so things didn t move that fast.
Weeks passed until one day Jess came to school but something was different about her. Most didn t
notice at first, but Jeff noticed right away. Her hair was a bright crimson red color. After seeing that,
something made him immediately go speak to her. He asked her out and she said that she would have
a response after class. Knowing she would say yes, she first wanted to tell her friends about what had
happened. Most of her friends all told her that this could mean the rest of her life, but she knew she
waited an entire year, so she thought she was ready. In the meantime, Jeff was talking to his friends
about if he really should have asked her out, without even knowing a thing past her name. Doubts
filled his mind as more time passed by. He lays down in his dorm to calm himself down until he gets a
text from an unknown number, saying, Meet me behind the music building at sunset. Not knowing
who sent the text, Jeff tells his friends to come with him as he goes to

Causes, Problems, and Cures for Air Pollution
When people think of air pollution, they most immediately picture heavy smog drifting over cities and
industrial plants. This is the first and most evident form of air pollution.
To better understand the subject, we need to define the term air pollution. Air pollution is the presence
in or introduced into the air of a substance which has harmful or poisonous effects. These substances
linger and cause many adverse problems. Humans and other living creations rely on the atmosphere
for reparation. When air quality is dampened by pollution, immediate and long term consequences
take place. Pollution has caused allergies, disease, damage to crops, and even death. It is important
that we fully understand the causes, problems, and possible solutions of air pollution so that we can
make an educated decision for Earth s future.
There are many causes of air pollution. We can divide air pollutants into two categories. there are
invisible and visible air pollutants. The smog you might see lingering over a city is a good example of
visible air pollution. Invisible air pollutants are obviously not as noticeable, but they can be just as
deadly, if not more so. Examples of invisible pollutants include nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, and
carbon monoxide. Air pollution can further be split into primary and secondary pollutants. Primary
pollutants, such as sulfur dioxide, are ones directly

Marx s Critique of Capitalism
by Tom Chance
Throughout his work, Marx s primary concern was the intellectual destruction of capitalism. Despite
his belief in a progressive history, and in the inevitable downfall of capitalism, Marx thought that in
destroying capitalism s intellectual support he could hasten its real demise and usher in a socialist era.
Many of his works can be seen as reactions to the growing status of the relatively new field of political
economy, pioneered by figures like Adam Smith, David Ricardo and Thomas Malthus, whose
increasingly laissez faire theories promoted an extension of exactly the features of capitalism that
Marx thought were most defective. Hence his critique ranges from attacks on the complacent liberal
bases of capitalism to complex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But Marx went further, to claim that it is the mode of production [that] constitutes the economic
structure of society and to which correspond definite forms of social consciousness (Marx, 2001b :
425). To illustrate, a society that is predominantly based around farming will have an economy based
on the seasons, markets, and definite social relations between farm owners and farm workers. If, as
Marx claimed, it is the social being [of men] that determines their consciousness , then it is the case
that an individual s consciousness is determined by the forms of social consciousness, which are
themselves determined by the modes of production in said society. In other words, Marx thought that
it was in the economic superstructures that social and political strife have their origins, and so that
political theory ought to concern itself with modes of production, rather than abstract ideas such as
justice and liberty. And it was in the structures of capitalism that Marx found his major concern, and
which he saw as both the source of all strife in the developed world, and as a necessary step in the
development of society.
In fact, some Marxists claim that we should not criticise capitalism because it is unjust, but because it
crushes human potential, destroys fraternity, encourages the inhumane treatment of man by man, and
has other grave defects generically different from justice (Cohen : 139) Whether one accepts that

effort. The CSA cases are extremely rare and often are mixed with Obstructive sleep apnea [1].
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the occasional interruption of breathing during sleep as a result of

1. The genre of the story would be a fairy tale. The reason I say this is a fairytale is because in the
story it talks about if the soldier was to put on a cloak he would disappear. Another genre for this story
would be a folk tale.
2. The exposition of this story includes the fact that the king has a large family. This includes twelve
daughters that have to be kept a close eye on. For some reason they all have to share one bedroom.
The royal family suspects that they are not spending their nights at home.
3. The rising action would be when the king orders many people to sit and watch the twelve daughters

Why I Went To The Woods In Walden
His book, Walden, in which he goes through his life after having moved away from society into a

there. He varies from discussing the law of society to the seasons in New England. However, Chapter
2 specifically goes into the details of the places he has lived in and what he desires to get out of life.
The key part of this chapter comes when he goes into detail defining the inspiration of this adventure
coming from wanting to find the true meaning of living life. He says, I went to the woods because I
wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it

For example, there are moments throughout the novel in which the wind blows as Sethe is thinking
and she is brought back to her days at Sweet Home, seeing the beautiful trees that surrounded the
plantation. However, those were not nice moments to be reminded of as the particular trees she
remembers are the trees that hung her fellow companions on the plantation. The story frames it as,
Boys hanging from the most beautiful sycamores in the world. It shamed her remembering the
wonderful soughing trees rather than the boys (pg. 7). Thus, right off the bat, Sethe has a clear
relationship with nature but it is so two faced that it could be something seen as a beautiful sight or a
shocking reminder. Along with that, overall she has very bad experiences at Sweet Home when it
came to having her milk stolen and just being a slave in general. But she is not able to control when
those thoughts come to her as, her brain was devious, (pg. 6), so any sight of a tree could provide her
with a sudden wave of depression, much different from what it would provide for the others. The
inbetween of the positive and negative association with trees and nature would come in the moment
that Sethe is running away from Sweet Home, going through the woods. Although that moment
brought her freedom and a new life bringing her choice and much more, the process of it all was
insanely brutal. All throughout her escape, she was pregnant with Denver and had extremely swollen
feet, causing her to be tired out quickly. She reached a point in which she wanted to stop and die, but

Vladimir Putin
In 1513, an Italian politician by the name of Niccolo Machiavelli distributed, though privately, a
political treatise called The Prince. This treatise was, essentially, a guide on how to effectively rule
one s country. It s important beforehand to define exactly what a Machiavellian is, before describing
one. A Machiavellian is a leader who, through his power and influence, works toward the common
good of his people. This can be done through fear, through deceit, even through manipulation. It is
important to understand the main principle of a Machiavellian; the end justifies the means. The end

institutes reform, and executes economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His climb to power landed himself at the foot of the Russian presidency when President Yeltsin
resigned, naming Putin as his successor to office. Since then, President Putin has found ways to stay in
power through change in constitutional law within Russia, which had formerly caused Putin to step
down as President in 2008. However, as Putin had named Dmitry Medvedev his successor, Medvedev
in turn named Putin, Prime Minister. In most cases, Medvedev would ve run for a second term, but
instead stated he was switching positions with Putin, giving Putin his third term in office. While Putin
faced protests across Russia from the outcome of this election, he was largely able to stop the protests
by jailing the opposition and cracking down on any who spoke out against him. All of this leads up to
Machiavelli s 8th chapter, Chapter VIII in The Prince: Concerning Those Who Have Obtained A
Principality By Wickedness. Machiavelli talks of those who betray and kill friends to climb the latter
of power, only to realize that they can only ever achieve power, and never glory. A characteristic of a
ruler must be one of cold calculation, knowing exactly what to do should the moment come to inflict
some action of injury, as Machiavelli puts it, saying the ruler

World War I was the first test of Wilson s belief that American power could make the world safe for

This became a time where the beliefs of imperialism, nationalism, and socialism were common

The Success Of The British East India Company
A very profitable organization for the British, The British East India Company was successful gaining
resources within India and trading them abroad during the Seventeenth and Eighteenth centuries. One
of the main reasons for the successes of the East India Company before 1783 was their ability to
create trade monopolies in Bengal following the Battle of Plassey. Being the greatest military power in
the world allowed the British to impose these monopolies, which the East India Company and their
staff abused for massive profits. In the Battle of Plassey, Robert Clive was able to lead the British East
India Company to victory, claiming the cherished prize of Bengal. The British East India Company
were able to efficiently trade salt, saltpetre, opium, and especially silks and textiles from Bengal. The
Battle of Plassey was a marvelous victory for the British in Bengal due to their ability to freely trade
following the conflict. The British East India Company was successful in Bengal and contributed great
economic gains for the British with little resistance following the Battle of Plassey. Beginning with the
creation of the East India Company and a brief history, we can see how the British East India
Company became successful. Founded on 31 December 1600, and chartered by Queen Elizabeth, the
English company was one among several European trading ventures that sought to tap the riches of
the East . Among others, including the French and Dutch, the British wished to get

The Midwife’s Role in Informing Pregnant Women of the...
How the provision of information in the antenatal period can positively affect health and life style
choices in the pregnant woman and her family.
It is a recognised certainty that nutrition is a fundamental requirement to sustain a healthy lifestyle and
is also extremely valuable when recovering from an illness or an injury. Nutrients are absorbed in the
body and this physiological process is essential for homeostasis and ensuring equilibrium is sustained
within the body as without enough food and drink the body will not function correctly (Edwards
Thomas, 2009). This essay will provide information on folic acid and its properties, its role and the

In pregnancy the body needs to produce cells to help with the development and nourishment of the
growing fetus; it also helps to make red blood cells . During pregnancy, risks can be associated with
toxaemia, premature birth and haemorrhaging if there is no folic acid in the diet (Youngson, 2005).
Folic acid contributes to several major biological processes and these include the combination of
RNA, DNA and proteins. It is needed to help with the repair and replication of DNA and the
maintenance of the genome and it is also involved in the regulation of gene expression (Hendler
Rorvik, 2008).
Folate is a natural occurrence in foods such as beans and pulses (e.g. lentils and chickpeas), leafy
green vegetables, broccoli, spinach, tuna and oranges (Tiran, 2000). Some foods are also fortified with
folic acid such as cereals and bread. Late in the 1990 s United State scientists came to the realisation
that despite the availability of folic acid in supplements as well as foods available in the supermarkets,
people were still finding it a challenge to meet their daily folate requirement; with this in mind the
United States of America implemented the folate fortification program (Latimes.com). For women of
childbearing age, folic acid consumption needed to be increased so in January of 1998 the United
States food and drug administration authorised a folic acid fortification of all products containing
grain. The

Personal objectives for the next 12 months
There are 3 SMART objectives I want to achieve for the next 12 months that will help me in my
career. First of all, I want to continue learning Mandarin language. I have been trying to learn it for the
past 6 months, however to get the hang of a language requires more time. Still, it is needed as Chinese
speakers are expanding all over the world. I have to the luck to be living among Chinese speakers, so
with effort and willingness I will be able to achieve this objective and to measure my progress. So I
will learn Mandarin day by day, through talking to my friends. Also, I will take up a Chinese language
course right after my graduation, which means June, 2009.
The second objective would be improving my English writing and reading skills. People would say I
must be really bad at English to set up such objective. In my opinion, able to simply read and write
English is not the main point, the importance is how you understand what you read thoroughly and
explain what you think professionally in writing. That what it counts in workplace, so that would be a
realistic idea for me. It is achievable through constant learning and reading. I have an English teacher
as a girlfriend, so she will be the one who measure my progress. I will buy some books about writing
skills, and read as much as I can. This is a basic day to day learning. I will go back to my hometown at
the end of December,

Essay on A Taste of Honey by Shelagh Delaney
In writing A Taste of Honey, what impact did Shelagh Delaney hope to have upon her audience? What
techniques did she use to achieve these aims? Shelagh Delaney wrote A Taste of Honey in 1958 when
she was only 18.
A Taste of Honey is a story about the relationship between a girl and her mother. The mother, Helen,
who is a semi whore, leaves her daughter, Jo, to get married to Peter. Jo has a relationship with a sailor
and gets pregnant. The sailor then leaves for duty. Jo meets
Geoff, they become friends and Geoff offers to help Jo bring up the baby. Helen returns after splitting
up with Peter and wants Jo back.
The audience that Shelagh Delaney was writing for consisted mainly of middle class and upper class
people. Her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was not how the working classes lived and Shelagh
Delaney outlined this very clearly in A Taste of Honey .
Although the characters live in a world where they are treated differently because of their class, race
and sexuality, they still enjoy life. Shelagh Delaney represents this and puts forward ideas without
prejudice.
From this play we can see that Shelagh Delaney wanted to change theatrical productions to represent
the working classes rather than the upper classes. In many previous productions the working classes
had been represented as gloomy and bad tempered. She was not afraid to try new ideas, bringing a
completely new angle to theatrical productions. The audience were now seeing plays about real people
living in a real world, not ideal families living in perfect situations. The audience would have been
shocked by the reality factor of this play.
Presenting the working classes in a play had been a problem to many previous playwrights. They had
wanted to include them in their plays but had wanted to miss out the reality factor. Shelagh Delaney
was not frightened to show this side of life and has overcome the problem by showing the working
classes as they really are. She achieves this by presenting the characters as down to earth and creates
an environment which is basic and slightly crude.

If management can increase their WACM, their goal will be easier to achieve. The best way to
increase their WACM is to decrease their variable costs. This is because increasing the price of their
services might lead to a decrease in their number of customers. A high WACM also means that every
revenue that Bridgestone earns will have a large impact on the coverage of their fixed expenses. The
next thing that needs to be analyzed about the annual budget of Bridgestone for next year would be the
break even point. As discussed, break even point is the point where the revenues and expenses are
equal and thus, will have a zero profit. To put it simply, companies should always set their budgeted
volume of sales above the break even point if they want to be profitable. And they should also do their
best to meet the break even point because if the volume of sales is less than the break even point,
companies are sure to experiences losses which might affect the entire company and its employees.
The break even point can be expressed in two ways. It can be expressed in terms of units, and it can be
expressed in terms of sales amount. The formula for the break even point expressed in units is as
follows: BREAK EVEN POINT (IN UNITS) = FIXED EXPENSES/ UNIT CM BREAK EVEN
POINT (IN UNITS) = $3493700/(3500000/75150) BREAK EVEN POINT (IN UNITS) = 75,015

Sarah-Elizabeth Atunrase Final Paper
Sarah Elizabeth Atunrase Final Paper 5/9/18 Final Paper The two behavioral concepts I recognized in
the DeWaal paper were true altruism and empathy. Altruism is defined as altruism without obvious
advantages for the actor (DeWaal). Reciprocal altruism is the act of giving aid or preforming an act of
kindness in order to receive delayed benefits or even immediate benefits (Lecture 23: Empathy and
Altruism). In order to participate in altruistic acts the species must have empathy. Empathy is
important because in order to perform these acts of kindness one has to understand the emotion of
another and be able to imagine what someone else is going through. Dewaal discusses how altruism in
animals must stem from something other than actions with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It can t be determined if the tortoise understood the actions of the goose. I choose this example
because it lacks the feel good feeling or helping someone in need of aid. I do not see examples of
empathetic behavior in this scenario. Another relationship that was less altruistic was the dog and the
cheetah. This is because they never performed beneficial acts at their expense in order to help each

siblings who have developed their own ways of communication and no true acts of altruism or
reciprocal altruism were demonstrated. As outlined previously, acts of altruism require the actor to

Sociology Prejudice
Context
Introduction
Prejudice means prejudgement. It is a psychologically and sociologically unjustifiable, usually
negative attitude towards a group and its members, and is based off of the physical characteristics of
an individual rather than what a person actually believes or does. These prejudices turn into
discrimination when the beliefs against a certain group are acted upon. Types of prejudice found in
modern society include those related to sex, gender, race, nationality, ethnicity, class, religion,
disability and language (McLeod, 2008). Racism is prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed
against someone of a different race based on the belief that one s own race is superior(Oxford
Dictionary, 2016).

Groups (e.g. social class, family, football team etc.) which people belonged to were an important
source of pride and self esteem (Tajfel, 1979). This links to social categorisation which is when people
assign others to in groups and out groups. Social identity theory states that the in group will hold
prejudiced views, and discriminate, against the out group (McLeod, 2008). The in group does this to
enhance their own self image by denigrating the perception of the out groups (Tajfel, 1979). In a
school context social categorisation s negative effects can result in bullying and discrimination against
those who are not part of the in group, e.g. members of the LGBTIQ community, racial and ethnic
minorities, or the self segregation of students in an attempt to separate the in and out groups, which
will often result in racial self segregation as within Australian schools non white students are the out
group. Another form of social categorisation include stereotypes. A stereotype is a fixed, over
generalized belief about a particular group or class of people (Cardwell, 1996). Stereotypes are a way
in which we simplify our social world (McLeod, 2015). By stereotyping we infer that a person has a
range of characteristics that we assume all members of a group possess. Racial stereotypes always
seem to favour the race of the holder and belittle other races (McLeod, 2015).

Suppose you had only kids who were normally healthy, psychologically and physically, and they knew

I personally disagree and when I assert my conclusions at the end, I will explain why. Dehumanization
is taking away an individual s autonomy, their creative and unique aspects of their personality. The
experiment dehumanized all the participants by doing precisely this. By placing them in an artificial
controlled setting where variables were manipulated and allegedly made them act a certain way due to
assumed roles, they were not autonomous, i.e. dehumanized. If I were a prisoner, especially knowing
that it was only a simulation, I would have rebelled (as some prisoners did) and definitely not become
subordinate or tattled on my fellow prisoners. I know this as I have spent a few days in a real jail
before. While I was there I tried to avoid getting into trouble and the guards didn t provoke me. When
they stripped searched me however I asked the guard doing the search if he was a f**got. I guess I
didn t like someone having control over me like that. Had a guard this real situation provoked me,
even knowing the consequences, I probably would kick his ass. Furthermore, I know I wouldn t act
crazy, cry or puss out and act like my life was ending. I would probably treat this situation pretty

Yet some readers may challenge my view by insisting that the radio industry is a dying industry and

Plant Kinship In Plants
Plants are boring. That has been the belief of mankind for generations. Animals are obviously highly
complex creatures with complex organ systems, and even more intricate organs like the brain. The
animal brain is able to sense surroundings, detect eminent danger, form relationships with other
animals, and recognize families. However, even without a brain, plants are capable of all this and
more. For example, Parasitic plants such as the Dionaea muscipula are able to sense and trap their
prey, the Mimosa pudica has the ability to sense touch and wilt, and plants like the Cuscuta Pentagona
can sense volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from tomato plants to form a parasitic relationship
(Biedrzycki M et al. 2010). Furthermore, some positive ways that plants exhibit communication
includes kinship. As children, humans are taught to share their toys and food with their siblings. Plants
it seems, have the same concept to ensure optimal growth and survival, as they act selflessly towards
their relatives, share resources, and exhibit less competition and more cooperation with their kin.
Plants are able to recognize fellow kin through responses to VOCs from relatives, and perform acts of
altruism to kin by resource partitioning amongst siblings through root allocation (Karban R et al.
2013). The current research on plant kinship and areas of future research will be discussed, as well the
controversies surrounding this subject. Despite the debate on plant kinship,

Zen In The Art Of Archery Summary
Zen in the Art of Archery, by Eugen Herrigel describes the ritualistic arts of discipline and focus that
the Zen religion focuses around. In this book, Herrigel describes many aspects of how archery is, in
fact, not a sport, but an art form, and is very spiritual to those in the east. The process he describes
shows how he overcame his initial inhibitions and began to look toward new ways of seeing and
understanding. In the beginning of the book Herrigel tells us that he is writing about a ritual and
religious practice, whose aim consists in hitting a spiritual goal, so that fundamentally the marksman
aims at himself and may even succeed in hitting himself. (Herrigel p. 4) Through his studies, the
author discovers that within the Zen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Let go and enlightenment will come to you. This is the same underlying concept that Zen and
Buddhism rely on. If one focuses too much on meditation then he will never actually clear your head
and reach the blissful goal of enlightenment. His master explains this as, The right art is purposeless,
aimless! The more obstinately you try to learn how to shoot the arrow for the sake of hitting the goal,
the less you will succeed in the one and the further the other will recede. (Herrigel p. 31) So, for
Herrigel to learn the art of archery he must cease to strive towards hitting the target and stop grasping
at his goal. Instead he must focus only on the moment and let the goal come to him.
As Herrigel spent more time with his master he learned more and more about the Zen ways of
thinking. Throughout his time there, his master taught him time after time that it is important to be in
the moment when the moment is happening. To reach your goal you must allow yourself to become
part of it and not focus on one individual aspect. The right frame of mind for the artists is only reached
when the preparing and the creating, the technical and the artistic, the material and the spiritual, the
project and the object, flow together without breaks. (Herrigel p. 43) All of your actions up to reaching

another addition coming in 2015. The strongest of the series was the original trilogy episodes 4, 5, and
6, all generally released in the 1980s. As one of the strongest film francaises still today, it s impact
within the 1980s was only the tip of the iceberg. Children and adults alike still anticipate the new
edition of this seemingly endless journey. If any singular film series still holds prevalence in its future
decades it is Star Wars: Original Trilogy. Far off in a distant galaxy an infamous story would begin, A

Yoruba Tribe Research Paper
To what has become one of the largest African ethnic groups in the western hemisphere, the Yoruba
tribe must give acknowledgment to the brave deities that they have come to worship. It is said in the
story that has become the upbringing of this culture that the deities whom originally lived in the sky,
looked in hope to bring life to the water and marshland below. In this attempt, these deities had
unknowingly constructed the foundation of morals and values that are represented by millions of
Yoruba people today. In the beginning stages of the Yoruba culture, one adventurous deity, Obatala,
who was not content with current state of his existence took upon his powers to create something more
and produce an advantageous world in which he could share with other beings. Obatala reached out to
Orolun, the supreme being of all, to be granted the opportunity to fulfill his dream. Impressed with the
curiosity and desire to do something valuable with his powers, Orolun agreed to let Obatala proceed
on his adventure and sent him to another deity, Orunmila, the orisha who knows the future. Upon
meeting with Orunmila, Obatala requested information on the materials that he would need throughout

One Trip To The Trashcan
Times are tough, and more people are cooking at home than dining out. However, some of them are
starting to get frustrated with how much time it takes to prepare a good meal. Here are three great tips
to make cooking faster, easier, and more enjoyable. Cooking Tip #1: Make One Trip to the Trashcan
Running back and forth to the trashcan is aggravating (as well as inefficient). You can make only one
trip by lining a colander, sink strainer, small trash can, or other wide mouthed receptacle with a plastic
shopping bag and keeping it next to your cutting board. If your cutting board happens to be right next
to the sink, place the lined receptacle in the basin. Otherwise place the receptacle at your feet (but be
careful not to trip over it). Toss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Limiting the use of our utilities is not only beneficial to our budget but also to the environment as
well. Here are several useful and lesser known tips in conserving energy while you are in the kitchen.
While being in the kitchen, the stove is one of the main items that will use up the most energy, so it is
important to be wise with your energy consumption when cooking on it. Adjust the burners when
using a gas based cooking top so that the flames just barely touch or are a tad lower than the bottom of
the pans you are cooking on. Flames that curl around a pan waste more energy. However, if you are
using an electric cook top, put the pan on a coil that is similar in size. Place the pan so that its bottom
lies absolutely flat on the burner. This will conserve a great deal of energy. Also, when using an
electric stove, set the burners on high first and then proceed to lower it to finish the cooking. For
dishes that aren t pans, turn off the burner completely at the end as the element will hold the heat for
several minutes. In addition to your stoves, the oven vent on an electrical range can be very useful. If
you are using an oven vent on an electrical range, you will find that the vent is under one of the
burners. While the oven is in use, you will be able to feel the hot air flowing through the vent. For
dishes that you would like to warm, set them on that burner. This will minimize the use of a
microwave and will also optimize the use of your burners. Now, for dishes that need to cook for long
periods of time, particularly over an hour, there is no need to preheat your oven (unless you are
cooking a turkey that needs a crisp skin). For dishes that must be cooked just under an hour, extend
the cooking time for a little bit. The only preheating that is required is for dishes that have a short
baking time. Although this seems like a very obvious tip

Crocs Research Paper
Crocs footwear Crocs, Inc., is indeed a Colorado creator of unique clogs that became popular for the
outdoor person in the late 1990s with both men, women, and children. These inexpensive shoes rely
on a proprietary resin material called Croslite. This helps produce a slip resistant and non marking
sole. The material also softens with body heat activation. This helps for molding the shoe to the foot
and providing a conforming fit. Crocs was meant for guys on boats and in other outdoor activities like
fishing and gardening, because the material of the shoe allows the foot to breathe. Crocs are also used
by working men and women who spend much time on their feet. For example, health care and
restaurant workers. Also, Crocs are widely considered

Bee Outline
Preparation Outline Introduction » Bees have a place in our world that is important beyond our
understanding. The small little insect, that some may swat away at, works tirelessly around us to
pollinate and present the possibility of further human development on earth. » Did you know that bees
pollinate the majority of our fruits and vegetables? Global Research of CA has found that just within
the last five years, 30% of the national bee population has disappeared and nearly a third of all bee
colonies in the U.S. have perished. (Statistic, Global Research Of California) Bees are going extinct at
this high rate due to climate change, pesticides, diseases, and parasites. Honeybees and the other
pollinators have the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
» Pollination is essentially plant reproduction without help from animal pollinators, our everyday food
supply would look much different One third of our staples we ve come to rely on would no longer be
available. Without bees, we would be struggling to find how to replace the major amount of food they
helped produce. Transition: Although pollination is important, bees provide us with a ton of other
benefits that advance out lives as well. (Explanation) Body #2 » Pollinating flowers and contributing
to the beautification of the planet s landscapes may be the bees perhaps simplest and least
economically important actions, but it s certainly its most aesthetically pleasing one. » We don t need
a beautiful planet to live, but wouldn t life be nicer if everything was prettier. Without bees, we would
be left with dead, unfertilized plants that would change the look of our world indefinitely. » Aside
from just beautification, bees also promote biodiversity. It is important that we get our food, but bees
also help fertilize different species and make it so we aren t just eating one plant, but that we have
hundreds of different types of produce to choose from. Bees help fertilize many things, ranging from
fruits and vegetables, to different types of nuts and seeds. Our food supply would be much simpler
without all the things bees help produce. » Not only do bees just help other plants produce their

Analysis Of Lucca Madonna
Lucca Madonna, Jan Van Eyck Description Analysis Interpretation Judgment Art Criticism The Lucca
Madonna portrays Virgin Mary sitting on a throne feeding baby Jesus. Van Eyck s use of color truly
draws the viewer to the painting. As soon as one sees the painting they as on looks upon the painting
they are guided towards Mary and Jesus bright skin then is soon drawn to the beautiful scarlet dress
Mary is wearing. There seems to be little negative space in the paintings. The throne of which Mary
sits on does not belong in the room. The only other items located in the room is the fruit on the
window seal and the trinkets on the shelf. Van Eyck s use of color emphasizes the differences between
the brightness of Mary s dress and the figures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jan Van Eyck artistic style is very identifiable. Eyck s use of iconography, the use of symbolism in a
work, occurred in a majority of his paintings. His creation of oil paint allowed him to create a detailed
painting with varying textures. The use of natural lighting and vibrant colors, known as impasto, is
very characteristic of Van Eyck painting. Not much is known of Van Eyck s socio economic
background however based on the time period one can infer what influenced his artwork. The Lucca
Madonna was painted during the Northern Renaissance. The northern Renaissance is an artistic period
that occurred in Northern European countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, Holland, England,
and France. Artwork during the period was influenced by gothic traditions, exploration of the new
world, individualism, realism, the formation of nation states and religion. The Northern Renaissance
painting often included iconography, intense detail and vibrant colors. Although Catholicism was
practiced in northern Europe, the end of feudalism diminished the church s power and many secular
institutions began to arise. Although Jan Van Eyck was one of the most influential artists during his
time period, his work, Lucca Madonna is fairly unknown. Whilst researching Jan Van Eyck the work
rarely appeared unless one research specifically the name. Description Analysis Interpretation

International market segmentation is the dividing of market into segments, this allow marketers to
effectively determine whether business can thrive in a particular area. Segmentation is based on four
factor namely geographical, psychographic, demographic and lastly behavioral segmentation.
Geographical segmentation refers to grouping markets geographically such as nations, states or cities.
Psychographic segmentation is the dividing of buyers into groups based on lifestyle or social
class/status. Demographic segmentation uses factors like age, gender, occupation and etc to separate
markets into groups. Last but not least, behavioral segmentation, this kind of segmentation divides
buyer into groups by their knowledge about particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bentley uses different kinds of market segmentation to segment their international market. By using
variables like nation s economic development and gross domestic product, markets like United States,
UK and Europe are recognized and had been Bentley s traditional market. Those markets gave Bentley
a lot of sales especially during the economic boom in the 80s. As sales slowly declined in the 90s,
Bentley had a hard time keeping up. That leads to a major investment in facility, new product
development and brand repositioning. As sales drop again in 2008, Bentley began to realize that their
use of variables for market segmentation like age, education, gender and etc is not how the market
behave, with the increasing buying power of the rich from BRIC. This force them to segment market
based on number of sales in that market and not based on developed or developing nations like they
used to. This results in targeting market that are growing, despite those market have low per capita
income, but the buying power of consumers in those market is the greatest. Young consumers in
economically growing nations are being targeted. As they are young and less educated, they would
like to possess branded things as a sign of their social class and since Bentley is a strong brand which
comes along with luxury design and innovative technology, there is no doubt

Conflict Between Israel And Palestine
The big question we ask ourselves today is, will Israel and Palestine ever agree to stop fighting? The
conflict between Israel and Palestine has been traced all the way back to 1948 through 2005 in The
Israel Palestine Land Settlement Problem, written by Charles Rowley and Jennis Taylor. However, this
conflict did not end in 2005. This article was written in 2006, so anything within the last 10 years is
not included. The conflict between the two counties still continues to this day and still remains a major
problem. Israelis and Arabs have been fighting over Gaza on and off for decades now. The three issues
laid out in this article are the four major wars that took place, the refugee problem, and the conflict
between religions. It concludes with the road map to peace. Throughout his whole book, The Israel
Palestine Conflict, Gelvin speaks of the same historical events that occurred between Israel and
Palestine, while the article reveals there are still other conflicts, the land settlement problem has been
the major conflict between Israel and Palestine since 1948. The problem is, simply put, a dispute over
real estate (Gelvin 3). This conflict has resulted in major wars during the period of time following
World War II. The 1948 1949 Arab Israeli war began when Egypt, Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon invaded
Palestine. The second war that occurred, was the 1956 Suez Canal War, at the end of this war Israel
agreed to withdraw from the Sinai Peninsula and the Gaza strip

  • 5. Auxin Is Better Than Natural Auxin Analysis Plant hormones are chemical signals released by a tissue and delivered to a receptor tissue. Auxin is the hormone most commonly found in plants. Auxin regulates and aids in the development of plants (Kazan 2013). The acid growth hypothesis states that an acidic ph will enhance the effects of auxin in seed development and plant growth. Radish seeds were planted in acidic soil and administered natural and synthetic auxin in order to test for the effect of synthetic auxin in an acidic soil on plant growth. The reason for this experiment is to test whether or not synthetic (man made) auxin works better than natural auxin in growth development. It was found that the natural kind of auxin works better in an acidic environment than synthetic auxin. Introduction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the process of pollination and the development of the embryo stops, a seed is formed. The seed will remain dormant until it comes in contact with water which causes gibberellins (a type of plant hormone) to be released which will trigger the layer covering the embryo to produce enzymes needed to break down the endosperm and release the nutrients that are stored there. Those nutrients will be used by the embryo for growth. Hormones are chemical substances that help and regulate plant growth and aid in seed germination (Gutzler and Brewer 2013). There are seven different types of plant hormones and they all trigger specific reactions. One of the first hormones discovered in plants was Auxin. Auxin is known to aid in stem elongation and shape direction of growth (Gutzler and Brewer 2013). There are many different kinds of auxin. The Usefulness Of Viral Vectors The Usefulness of Viral Vectors in Treating Dravet Syndrome Voltage gated sodium channels initiate the development action potentials in neurons; mutations of genes encoding these channels are responsible for genetic epilepsy syndromes with varying degrees of severity1. Dravet syndrome, or severe myoclonic epilepsy of infancy (SMEI), is a complex and severe form of childhood epilepsy, caused by a nonsense mutation in the sodium voltage gated channel alpha subunit 1 (SCN1a) gene. Severe loss of function mutation in Nav1.1 causes SMEI, which involves intractable epilepsy, ataxia, and cognitive impairment 1. It is important to study this disease because of its early mortality in children and because of its high resistance to drug therapy 2. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adeno associated viral vectors (AAV): Adeno associated viral vectors are non enveloped single stranded DNA viruses used in treating diseases of the central nervous system 3. AAV vectors have been widely used in clinical trials to deliver therapeutic genes to mutated ones, and are efficient and safe in vivo application3. However one major drawback is the limited packaging capacity for genes with larger sizes 3. Fortunately, this can be overcome with the treatment of the dystrophin gene (DMD), which encodes the cohesive protein dystrophin that supports the cytoskeleton of a cell3. There are two methods can be used with AAV vectors to decrease the duration of epilepsy: inducing somatostatin into AAV vectors and direct injection of glial targeting AAV vectors. Method 1: Somatostatin (SST) is a neuromodulator known to have diverse functions in sleep and motor activity and it plays a putative anticonvulsant role, such as in maintaining hippocampal homeostasis4. Some studies have suggested that AAV vector mediated expression of SST suppresses hippocampus related seizure development in rats4. Viral vector gene therapy using SST as an anti seizure related neuropeptide in a kindling model of epilepsy was implemented, where over successive electrical stimulation of the same intensity, seizures evolve from partial to generalized states 4. The duration of seizures was lower for the vector infused with SST (pAAV CBa SST), than compared to the vector that was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. True Despair Short Story True Despair Four years ago today was his first time feeling true happiness. Now the day reminds him of how badly he messed up one year ago. Just one wrong turn led to a life of despair. It was his last time ever experiencing true happiness. Four years ago, Jeff was still in college when he met the girl of his dreams, or so he thought. Her name was Jessica. Jess was a quiet girl, but one day in the hall Jess bumped into Jeff and after that, it was love at first sight, though the both of them were too shy to say anything at first, they both knew from a spark in their eyes that they were destined to be together in someway. Over a year both Jess and Jeff were both going about their lives as average everyday students in college. Jeff attending his classes, doing his chores around his dorm, and keeping up with his family as they lived far from the college he was attending.Jess usually hanging with her friends, keeping up with class work and playing video games online. They only saw each other in the hall every now and then until, by some random chance of fate, they both chose the same class and were placed together, and that s when Jess thought that she had the courage to tell him how she really felt but she was too shy, so things didn t move that fast. Weeks passed until one day Jess came to school but something was different about her. Most didn t notice at first, but Jeff noticed right away. Her hair was a bright crimson red color. After seeing that, something made him immediately go speak to her. He asked her out and she said that she would have a response after class. Knowing she would say yes, she first wanted to tell her friends about what had happened. Most of her friends all told her that this could mean the rest of her life, but she knew she waited an entire year, so she thought she was ready. In the meantime, Jeff was talking to his friends about if he really should have asked her out, without even knowing a thing past her name. Doubts filled his mind as more time passed by. • 11. Solution Of Air Pollution Joe Science Auto Grader, Grade: 94 A paper rater Causes, Problems, and Cures for Air Pollution When people think of air pollution, they most immediately picture heavy smog drifting over cities and industrial plants. This is the first and most evident form of air pollution. To better understand the subject, we need to define the term air pollution. Air pollution is the presence in or introduced into the air of a substance which has harmful or poisonous effects. These substances linger and cause many adverse problems. Humans and other living creations rely on the atmosphere for reparation. When air quality is dampened by pollution, immediate and long term consequences take place. Pollution has caused allergies, disease, damage to crops, and even death. It is important that we fully understand the causes, problems, and possible solutions of air pollution so that we can make an educated decision for Earth s future. There are many causes of air pollution. We can divide air pollutants into two categories. there are invisible and visible air pollutants. The smog you might see lingering over a city is a good example of visible air pollution. Invisible air pollutants are obviously not as noticeable, but they can be just as deadly, if not more so. Examples of invisible pollutants include nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, and carbon monoxide. Air pollution can further be split into primary and secondary pollutants. Primary pollutants, such as sulfur dioxide, are ones directly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Marx s Critique of Capitalism by Tom Chance Throughout his work, Marx s primary concern was the intellectual destruction of capitalism. Despite his belief in a progressive history, and in the inevitable downfall of capitalism, Marx thought that in destroying capitalism s intellectual support he could hasten its real demise and usher in a socialist era. Many of his works can be seen as reactions to the growing status of the relatively new field of political economy, pioneered by figures like Adam Smith, David Ricardo and Thomas Malthus, whose increasingly laissez faire theories promoted an extension of exactly the features of capitalism that Marx thought were most defective. Hence his critique ranges from attacks on the complacent liberal bases of capitalism to complex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But Marx went further, to claim that it is the mode of production [that] constitutes the economic structure of society and to which correspond definite forms of social consciousness (Marx, 2001b : 425). To illustrate, a society that is predominantly based around farming will have an economy based on the seasons, markets, and definite social relations between farm owners and farm workers. If, as Marx claimed, it is the social being [of men] that determines their consciousness , then it is the case that an individual s consciousness is determined by the forms of social consciousness, which are themselves determined by the modes of production in said society. In other words, Marx thought that it was in the economic superstructures that social and political strife have their origins, and so that political theory ought to concern itself with modes of production, rather than abstract ideas such as justice and liberty. And it was in the structures of capitalism that Marx found his major concern, and which he saw as both the source of all strife in the developed world, and as a necessary step in the development of society. In fact, some Marxists claim that we should not criticise capitalism because it is unjust, but because it crushes human potential, destroys fraternity, encourages the inhumane treatment of man by man, and has other grave defects generically different from justice (Cohen : 139) Whether one accepts that ... However, those were not nice moments to be reminded of as the particular trees she remembers are the trees that hung her fellow companions on the plantation. The story frames it as, Boys hanging from the most beautiful sycamores in the world. It shamed her remembering the wonderful soughing trees rather than the boys (pg. 7). Thus, right off the bat, Sethe has a clear relationship with nature but it is so two faced that it could be something seen as a beautiful sight or a shocking reminder. Along with that, overall she has very bad experiences at Sweet Home when it came to having her milk stolen and just being a slave in general. But she is not able to control when those thoughts come to her as, her brain was devious, (pg. 6), so any sight of a tree could provide her with a sudden wave of depression, much different from what it would provide for the others. The inbetween of the positive and negative association with trees and nature would come in the moment that Sethe is running away from Sweet Home, going through the woods. A Machiavellian is a leader who, through his power and influence, works toward the common good of his people. This can be done through fear, through deceit, even through manipulation. His climb to power landed himself at the foot of the Russian presidency when President Yeltsin resigned, naming Putin as his successor to office. Since then, President Putin has found ways to stay in power through change in constitutional law within Russia, which had formerly caused Putin to step down as President in 2008. However, as Putin had named Dmitry Medvedev his successor, Medvedev in turn named Putin, Prime Minister. In most cases, Medvedev would ve run for a second term, but instead stated he was switching positions with Putin, giving Putin his third term in office. While Putin faced protests across Russia from the outcome of this election, he was largely able to stop the protests by jailing the opposition and cracking down on any who spoke out against him. All of this leads up to Machiavelli s 8th chapter, Chapter VIII in The Prince: Concerning Those Who Have Obtained A Principality By Wickedness. Machiavelli talks of those who betray and kill friends to climb the latter of power, only to realize that they can only ever achieve power, and never glory. A characteristic of a ruler must be one of cold calculation, knowing exactly what to do should the moment come to inflict some action of injury, as Machiavelli puts it, saying the ruler ... The United States had an open door policy where free flow of trade, investment, information, and culture were key principles in foreign relations. Later we started to become an intervening military, involved with other nation affairs, and wanting to promote liberty and democracy. The United States wanted to remake the world into the American image. World War I was the first test of Wilson s belief that American power could make the world safe for democracy . Before World War I, most of the interventions appropriated in the western hemisphere. This became a time where the beliefs of imperialism, nationalism, and socialism were common thoughts amongst Americans. However, once world spread about what is happening, in Europe, Americans were split. British Americans defended England, German Americans sided with Germany, and Irish Americans strongly opposed England. The Success Of The British East India Company A very profitable organization for the British, The British East India Company was successful gaining resources within India and trading them abroad during the Seventeenth and Eighteenth centuries. One of the main reasons for the successes of the East India Company before 1783 was their ability to create trade monopolies in Bengal following the Battle of Plassey. Being the greatest military power in the world allowed the British to impose these monopolies, which the East India Company and their staff abused for massive profits. In the Battle of Plassey, Robert Clive was able to lead the British East India Company to victory, claiming the cherished prize of Bengal. The British East India Company were able to efficiently trade salt, saltpetre, opium, and especially silks and textiles from Bengal. The Battle of Plassey was a marvelous victory for the British in Bengal due to their ability to freely trade following the conflict. The British East India Company was successful in Bengal and contributed great economic gains for the British with little resistance following the Battle of Plassey. Beginning with the creation of the East India Company and a brief history, we can see how the British East India Company became successful. Founded on 31 December 1600, and chartered by Queen Elizabeth, the English company was one among several European trading ventures that sought to tap the riches of the East . Nutrients are absorbed in the body and this physiological process is essential for homeostasis and ensuring equilibrium is sustained within the body as without enough food and drink the body will not function correctly (Edwards Thomas, 2009). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In pregnancy the body needs to produce cells to help with the development and nourishment of the growing fetus; it also helps to make red blood cells . During pregnancy, risks can be associated with toxaemia, premature birth and haemorrhaging if there is no folic acid in the diet (Youngson, 2005). Folic acid contributes to several major biological processes and these include the combination of RNA, DNA and proteins. It is needed to help with the repair and replication of DNA and the maintenance of the genome and it is also involved in the regulation of gene expression (Hendler Rorvik, 2008). Folate is a natural occurrence in foods such as beans and pulses (e.g. lentils and chickpeas), leafy green vegetables, broccoli, spinach, tuna and oranges (Tiran, 2000). Some foods are also fortified with folic acid such as cereals and bread. Late in the 1990 s United State scientists came to the realisation that despite the availability of folic acid in supplements as well as foods available in the supermarkets, people were still finding it a challenge to meet their daily folate requirement; with this in mind the United States of America implemented the folate fortification program (Latimes.com). For women of childbearing age, folic acid consumption needed to be increased so in January of 1998 the United States food and drug administration authorised a folic acid fortification of all products containing grain. Shelagh Delaney wrote A Taste of Honey in 1958 when she was only 18. A Taste of Honey is a story about the relationship between a girl and her mother. The mother, Helen, who is a semi whore, leaves her daughter, Jo, to get married to Peter. Jo has a relationship with a sailor and gets pregnant. The sailor then leaves for duty. Although the characters live in a world where they are treated differently because of their class, race and sexuality, they still enjoy life. Shelagh Delaney represents this and puts forward ideas without prejudice. From this play we can see that Shelagh Delaney wanted to change theatrical productions to represent the working classes rather than the upper classes. In many previous productions the working classes had been represented as gloomy and bad tempered. She was not afraid to try new ideas, bringing a completely new angle to theatrical productions. The audience were now seeing plays about real people living in a real world, not ideal families living in perfect situations. The audience would have been shocked by the reality factor of this play. Presenting the working classes in a play had been a problem to many previous playwrights. They had wanted to include them in their plays but had wanted to miss out the reality factor. Shelagh Delaney was not frightened to show this side of life and has overcome the problem by showing the working classes as they really are. She achieves this by presenting the characters as down to earth and creates an environment which is basic and slightly crude. Shelagh Delaney ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The next thing that needs to be analyzed about the annual budget of Bridgestone for next year would be the break even point. As discussed, break even point is the point where the revenues and expenses are equal and thus, will have a zero profit. To put it simply, companies should always set their budgeted volume of sales above the break even point if they want to be profitable. And they should also do their best to meet the break even point because if the volume of sales is less than the break even point, companies are sure to experiences losses which might affect the entire company and its employees. Reciprocal altruism is the act of giving aid or preforming an act of kindness in order to receive delayed benefits or even immediate benefits (Lecture 23: Empathy and Altruism). In order to participate in altruistic acts the species must have empathy. Types of prejudice found in modern society include those related to sex, gender, race, nationality, ethnicity, class, religion, disability and language (McLeod, 2008). This links to social categorisation which is when people assign others to in groups and out groups. Social identity theory states that the in group will hold prejudiced views, and discriminate, against the out group (McLeod, 2008). The in group does this to enhance their own self image by denigrating the perception of the out groups (Tajfel, 1979). In a school context social categorisation s negative effects can result in bullying and discrimination against those who are not part of the in group, e.g. members of the LGBTIQ community, racial and ethnic minorities, or the self segregation of students in an attempt to separate the in and out groups, which will often result in racial self segregation as within Australian schools non white students are the out group. Another form of social categorisation include stereotypes. A stereotype is a fixed, over generalized belief about a particular group or class of people (Cardwell, 1996). Stereotypes are a way in which we simplify our social world (McLeod, 2015). By stereotyping we infer that a person has a range of characteristics that we assume all members of a group possess. Racial stereotypes always seem to favour the race of the holder and belittle other races (McLeod, 2015). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Animals are obviously highly complex creatures with complex organ systems, and even more intricate organs like the brain. The animal brain is able to sense surroundings, detect eminent danger, form relationships with other animals, and recognize families. However, even without a brain, plants are capable of all this and more. For example, Parasitic plants such as the Dionaea muscipula are able to sense and trap their prey, the Mimosa pudica has the ability to sense touch and wilt, and plants like the Cuscuta Pentagona can sense volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from tomato plants to form a parasitic relationship (Biedrzycki M et al. 2010). Furthermore, some positive ways that plants exhibit communication includes kinship. As children, humans are taught to share their toys and food with their siblings. Plants it seems, have the same concept to ensure optimal growth and survival, as they act selflessly towards their relatives, share resources, and exhibit less competition and more cooperation with their kin. Plants are able to recognize fellow kin through responses to VOCs from relatives, and perform acts of altruism to kin by resource partitioning amongst siblings through root allocation (Karban R et al. 2013). In the beginning of the book Herrigel tells us that he is writing about a ritual and religious practice, whose aim consists in hitting a spiritual goal, so that fundamentally the marksman aims at himself and may even succeed in hitting himself. The more obstinately you try to learn how to shoot the arrow for the sake of hitting the goal, the less you will succeed in the one and the further the other will recede. • 42. One Trip To The Trashcan Times are tough, and more people are cooking at home than dining out. However, some of them are starting to get frustrated with how much time it takes to prepare a good meal. Here are three great tips to make cooking faster, easier, and more enjoyable. Cooking Tip #1: Make One Trip to the Trashcan Running back and forth to the trashcan is aggravating (as well as inefficient). You can make only one trip by lining a colander, sink strainer, small trash can, or other wide mouthed receptacle with a plastic shopping bag and keeping it next to your cutting board. If your cutting board happens to be right next to the sink, place the lined receptacle in the basin. Otherwise place the receptacle at your feet (but be careful not to trip over it). Toss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Limiting the use of our utilities is not only beneficial to our budget but also to the environment as well. Here are several useful and lesser known tips in conserving energy while you are in the kitchen. While being in the kitchen, the stove is one of the main items that will use up the most energy, so it is important to be wise with your energy consumption when cooking on it. Adjust the burners when using a gas based cooking top so that the flames just barely touch or are a tad lower than the bottom of the pans you are cooking on. Flames that curl around a pan waste more energy. However, if you are using an electric cook top, put the pan on a coil that is similar in size. Place the pan so that its bottom lies absolutely flat on the burner. This will conserve a great deal of energy. Also, when using an electric stove, set the burners on high first and then proceed to lower it to finish the cooking. For dishes that aren t pans, turn off the burner completely at the end as the element will hold the heat for several minutes. In addition to your stoves, the oven vent on an electrical range can be very useful. If you are using an oven vent on an electrical range, you will find that the vent is under one of the burners. While the oven is in use, you will be able to feel the hot air flowing through the vent. For dishes that you would like to warm, set them on that burner. This will minimize the use of a microwave and will also optimize the use of your burners. Now, for dishes that need to cook for long periods of time, particularly over an hour, there is no need to preheat your oven (unless you are cooking a turkey that needs a crisp skin). For dishes that must be cooked just under an hour, extend the cooking time for a little bit. The only preheating that is required is for dishes that have a short baking time. Although this seems like a very obvious tip ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By using variables like nation s economic development and gross domestic product, markets like United States, UK and Europe are recognized and had been Bentley s traditional market. Those markets gave Bentley a lot of sales especially during the economic boom in the 80s. As sales slowly declined in the 90s, Bentley had a hard time keeping up. • 47. Conflict Between Israel And Palestine The big question we ask ourselves today is, will Israel and Palestine ever agree to stop fighting? The conflict between Israel and Palestine has been traced all the way back to 1948 through 2005 in The Israel Palestine Land Settlement Problem, written by Charles Rowley and Jennis Taylor. However, this conflict did not end in 2005. This article was written in 2006, so anything within the last 10 years is not included. The conflict between the two counties still continues to this day and still remains a major problem. Israelis and Arabs have been fighting over Gaza on and off for decades now. The three issues laid out in this article are the four major wars that took place, the refugee problem, and the conflict between religions. It concludes with the road map to peace. Throughout his whole book, The Israel Palestine Conflict, Gelvin speaks of the same historical events that occurred between Israel and Palestine, while the article reveals there are still other conflicts, the land settlement problem has been the major conflict between Israel and Palestine since 1948. The problem is, simply put, a dispute over real estate (Gelvin 3). This conflict has resulted in major wars during the period of time following World War II. The 1948 1949 Arab Israeli war began when Egypt, Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon invaded Palestine.
