Henry A Bird Analysis
The reason why I chose this sculpture is because birds symbolize human s power and the ability
to escape gravity and achieve success through the effort of climbing higher and taking off into
flight. I think Henry is that kind of person, because he never gives up on Zoe, even when times
get hard. I think this picture fits Henry s type of style because since he was just working on a
sculpture of an elephant I inferred that he likes to sculpt animals and birds, also since he was
reading Georgia O Keeffe who drew animals and birds, that he d like to make a sculpture of a
bird. That is why this bird fits Henry s type of art style. The reason why I chose this sculpture is
because it s very unique. It s remarkable, special, idiosyncratic, one of a kind, extraordinary,
peerless. This sculpture fits Henry s type of art style is because... Show more content on

Which include tools such as: hammers, mallets, clamps, screwdrivers, and more. The reason
why I chose this picture is because it uses object that Americans throw away and make it into
something wonderful, and extraordinary. The reason why I think this fits Henry s art style is
because it uses different scraps of metal to make something beautiful. Henry s art style is just the
same he uses scraps of metal to make beautiful art sculptures, just like the picture above. The
reason why I chose this picture is because Maurie Berry s creations are inspired by rescuing the
treasures of the past to produce a work that is both provocative and functional. I also chose this
picture is because it was thought out deliberately, and wasn t just rushed. This fits Henry s type
of art style is because it was thought out and is very detailed. For example, the bird s feathers was
very detailed and didn t just have one long feather. It look like an actual bird. Just like Henry s
drawings on the walls. They were colorful, and was really good because they were

Wrought Iron Gates Research Paper
History of Wrought Iron Gates
As with everything in manufacturing and design, wrought iron has a long line of history. It has
been around for several centuries due to it s long lasting durability and beauty. Wrought iron unlike
cast iron is not brittle and can be beat in to elaborate designs when heated.
When wrought iron gates first came about they were all heated and molded by hand. In this day
and age you can still find several blacksmiths who will still do this by hand. However, most of the
time it is done in a factory so that they all look the same to provide a seamless look.
The first wrought iron gate was manufactured in the 18th century and was made for a cathedral.
The priest who didn t want a fence at all said that if there had to be one, he wanted it made from
wrought iron over any other material. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first gate around the White House in the United States was made of wrought iron. This is
because it provided the security the White House needed. Other than knowing that wrought iron
was extremely durable due to the components that it is made of, they learned that it would be
strong enough to protect the White House due to an accident. This accident happened when a man
lost control of his car and almost crashed into a building. The only reason he did not crash was a
wrought iron figure that stopped him before he reached it.
Now days wrought iron gates can be found all over the globe. They are great for homes as well as
businesses. Not only do these gates provided durability and protection, but they also looked
wonderful while doing it.
One of the benefits people love most about this type of gate, is that the design possibilities are
endless. You can have your gate designed in any style that you want, that way it matches the look

Kazu Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go
Throughout Kazu Ishiguro s novel Never Let Me Go, he choices to depict children as outsiders to
the world which can be furthered by the setting in Britain s countryside because it helps give a
sense distance from true reality. In the framework throughout his novel Ishiguro focuses on three
main characters Kathy, Ruth, and Tommy. These three students are seen by others to have an
advantage because they were lucky enough to be raised at Hailsham by the guardians. Over the
watchful eye of the Guardians the children were able to grow accustom to being different than
others. This can be seen when the characters all mature and grow after they leave Hailsham and
become accustomed to life at the cottages. There newly found freedoms at the... Show more content

This was the tipping point for teachers at Hailsham because now their work was in the spotlight
and outsiders did not support their methods. This directly correlates with the closing of Hailsham
because it questions the motives behind schools like Hailsham and their ultimate goal of education.
One major worry for society at this time in the novel is that these cloned children will eventually
replace normal ones in everyday life.
Throughout the novel the fear of the unknown stands outs not just to the outside world and their
perceptions of clones but also the children growing up at Hailsham The most common criticism
that is raised to cloning in general is that it entitles one to start playing God. Throughout the
novel, Ishiguro examines many other ways that individuals might play God. This can be seen
when Chrissie and Rodney try to change their fate by getting a deferral while in return they are
playing God much to the extent the scientists who created them in the first place were. The organ
donation program was started in the first place on the idea that the clones owe their lives to
society, and should be prepared to sacrifice themselves later in their life. Thus at any given time the
clones should be ready for their job which designates them to lose some organ. Madame further
emphasizes the life a clone during her meeting with Tommy and Kathy by

In Shakespearian plays, women were shown as the victims of men and also, women were
described as calm. Women were oppressed by men. Men were shown as violent and aggressive.
Good Night Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet), written by Ann Marie Macdonald talks about
women being aggressive and violent. Women are shown equal to men according to their behavior,
but they can still be easily manipulated by men. Women are the victims of the actions of men. Men
uses women according to their wishes and desires. Women are supposed to act in certain way.
Homosexuality was not accepted during those times, but now the idea of being homosexual is
common. Also, true love does not exist and people get tired of each other after few days of living

Tourism In Azerbaijan Essay
Abstract Today, the Republic of Azerbaijan occupies a critical juncture between central Asia,
Europe, and the Middle East. Despite some significant challenges, Azerbaijan currently enjoys a
healthy petroleum based economy that is being increasingly diversified by the public and private
sectors to promote travel and tourism in this ancient land that enjoys a modern infrastructure and a
wide range of cultural heritage tourism destinations. Although many of the country s most widely
acclaimed destinations for international visitors are located in its capital, Baku, there are numerous
archeological and historical sites located in neighboring towns and regions as well that can form the
basis of a comprehensive cultural heritage tourism operation, providing certain factors are taken
into account in formulating the destination offerings. The Azerbaijan tourism industry has failed to
provide positive returns on its investment because the income that has been generated by tourism
industry has grown at a slow pace and gross domestic product attributable to the tourism industry
has actually fallen in recent years. Consequently studies such as this can help identify best practices
to speed industry growth and improve the return on the investment of scarce resources in the
Azerbaijani tourism industry. Acknowledgments [insert] Table of Contents Page Abstract

Perseverance
Overall Purpose/Theme:
The overall theme of the poem was Perseverance because the bird who has been thrown into the
real world must overcome all obstacles thrown its way to live a good life.
Evidence to support the theme:
1.Thomas Hardy writes and every spirit upon the earth seemed fervourless as I (15 16). Although
this sounds like the opposite of perseverance this is when the bird is actually realizing that it will
be living in this dark gruesome world and it needs to just suck it up and deal with it.
2.The author states That I could think there trembled through His happy good night air some
blessed hope (29 31). This quote shows the speakers hope for perseverance after hearing the birds
insightful song on how you will need to be prepared to take on the world and the only way is if
you persevere because the world will throw many obstacles your way and you need to be prepared
for it.

The author states So little cause for carolings of such ecstatic sound was written on terrestrial things
(25 27). This statement is the basic meaning of pushing through obstacles thrown in the path of the
bird, it also shows how the bird overcame its fears by singling different songs.

Age of reason Essay
The Age of Reason was a period in time during the 18th century in Europe and America when man
become enlightened by reason, science, and humanity. The people involved with the Age of Reason
were convinced that human reason could discover the natural laws of the universe, the natural
rights of mankind, and the progress in knowledge. Each philosopher had his own ideas and
theories about the world, nature, and human beings in general, and every philosopher wrote many
essays and books about their own personal ideas and opinions (Sartre4). David Humewas born in

Rousseau was originally thought to be an engraver, but he soon ran away after three years to a
wealthy woman named Madame Louise de Warens (Sartre 141).
Jean Jacques Rousseau stated that the view of science, art, and social institutions has corrupted
humankind. He also stated that natural state is morally greater than civilized state. Later he stated
that it is more important to express yourself than to hold back on becoming a unique individual
(Hampshire, 149).
Jean Jacques Rousseau had a great deal to do with the movement of Western Europe. He supported
individual freedom, but disliked the abolishment of the church and the state. On top of that, Jean
Jacques Rousseau influenced romanticism in literature and philosophy in the early 19th century.
Jean Jacques Rousseau dies in 1778 (Hampshire 152).
French philosopher, Claude Adrien Helvetius, was born in Paris in 1715. He believed that all

1771 (Hampshire 132).

Nativity Scene Analysis
The Massage of the Nativity Scene
Most Catholics have grown up associating the nativity scene with Christmas, so it is hard to
imagine that the first nativity scene only appeared about 800 years and more than 1200 years after
the birth of Christ. According to the Archdiocese of St. Louis, the story of the first nativity sceneis
actually an important remainder that we are called to be good stewards
December is filled with holiday cheer, fancy parties and cocktails, shopping trips and expensive
treats, street decorated and Christmas trees display. Even for me! I love having the fun that comes
with the season but not without my wallet or my bank account paying the prize; someone tell me I

Working alone Prospect Pack on Monday, I saw one of the biggest Christmas trees around the
borough with the Nativity scene, status of the three wise men, a camel and a donkey all part of
the scene with about 35 foot balsam fir alongside the creche. You don t need to be religious, to
appreciate the Nativity display or the message of the scene; but what about the display? Nativity
scene, also called the crib, manger, or creche is a loved Christmas tradition for many Christian
families that originated with St. Francis of Assisi in the year 1223 on Christmas Eve. It is a
depiction of the birthplace of Jesus, born in a stable. God came to earth in simplicity and meekness,
an invitation to rediscover the symbolic value of Christmas, which is the message of fraternity, of
sharing, of welcome, of solidarity and of helping the less fortunate.
According to the Catholic Company Network, St. Francis staged the first nativity scene in a
special Mass he held inside a cave in Greccio, Italy, after visiting the historical place of the birth of
Christ on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land the humble stable in a Bethlehem cave.
He was inspired to recreate the nativity scene because he was disgusted with the materialism and
greed that was common in Italy at the period. In a letter to his friend Giovanni, St. Francis wrote: I
want to do something that will recall the memory of that Child who was born in Bethlehem, to see
with bodily eyes the inconveniences of his infancy, how he lay in the manger, and how the ox

Identity In Jean-Luc Nancy s Examined Life
Identity is an extremely tricky thing. Over the years, people have failed to define it properly. It is
both elusive and complicated. In Jean Luc Nancy s Identity, he struggles to explain that mysterious
puzzle that is an entity s identity.
Right at the start of Nancy s Identity, Nancy stresses that the state has no power over a nation s
identity. He declares, the state is only ever the instrument of the nation: It is not its role to define,
and even less to constitute, the identity of the nation (Nancy 1). Right away, this shows that identity
is a sort of hard to truly pin down. It is somewhat ethereal in nature. More importantly though, he
stresses that the national identity and the individual identity are not that different from ... Show

A Happier Tomorrow in Today Will Be a Quiet Day Essay
A Happier Tomorrow in Today Will Be a Quiet Day
In the story Today Will Be a Quiet Day written by Amy Hempel, one may be inclined to believe
that there is a tone of depression or sadness among the father and the two children. This is shown
in the opening sentence, while the three are stalled in traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge. The boy
states, I think if the quake hit now the bridge would collapse and the ramps would be left (Hempel
1202). We also learn that the boy had a best friend who committed suicide about a year before.
Finally, the fact that a mother is not mentioned leaves the reader with a suspicion that the parents
may be divorced, separated, or even worse, the mother may be deceased. Even though these

This is shown throughout the car ride when the boy and girl are telling jokes, and the boy constantly
recites humorous bumper stickers. Another example of the father s attempt to have fun with his
children is his initial plan to attend the arm wrestling tournament. This is shot down by the
children, but they still find an interesting place to have a nice lunch. The day proved to be a fun
and relaxing day for the family, and hinted that less disastrous times are in store for them.
Next, the fact that the daughter has just received her driver s license is a step towards happier
times. Driving on her own is probably one of the most exciting times of her life, and she makes it
known to her family that she received the highest grade in the class. The father trusts her and lets
her drive all the way home, which raises her confidence and shows the trusting relationship
between the father and daughter. Another example which shows happier times coming to the
family is when the father tells the children that he has both good and bad news. He goes on to ask
which would the children prefer to hear first. The daughter immediately answers that she wishes to
hear the bad first. This is surprising to her father, but it shows that she is beginning to mature. The
father is glad to hear that the daughter can handle the bad news, when earlier the truth had to be
hidden from her, like the death of the dog. This shows how naive the daughter was in her younger
years, and now that she has

From their philosophies to the way they do battle to the way the dress, the powerful Jedi Knights of
the Star Wars galaxy have clear parallelisms with our galaxy s Samurais. Examples of these
parallelisms are the robes that the Jedi used are quite similar to the robes that the Samurai used,
another one is the Japanese katana that the Samurais used in battle and the Light Saber that the
Jedi used to keep the peace. George Lucas also borrowed ideas from other samurai movies such
as Sanjuro and Yojimbo both by Akira Kurosawa. Apart from having Asian origins, Star Wars
also has Western background. One of the earliest science fiction graphic novels known to man is
Flash Gordon. It s clear why George Lucas took some of Flash Gordon s concepts and applied it
with his own films. Flash Gordon however, also borrowed it s concepts with an even earlier sci fi
comic strip: Buck Rogers. One of the clearest similarities between Star Wars and Flash Gordon is
the signature roll up that is present in the start of every Star Wars movie. One less noticeable
similarity is the vocabulary of Flash Gordon (which was also taken from Buck Rogers). Since
Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers were the only ones that mentioned of futuristic space travel and

Al Qaeda
Another key concept in the study of Israel Palestine war is that of Al Qaeda which is an
international terrorist organization more of an ideology than an organization. According to Burke
(2004:1) in 1987, Abdullah Azzam, the forefront dialogue for contemporary Sunni Muslim
fundamental advocates, instigated for al Qaeda al sulbah which is a frontline of the robust. The
notorious leader envisioned an ideology about men acting autonomously, as the route that will lead
the all of the Islamic society and therefore stimulate the umma which refers to worldwide

Concept of delegitimization
According to Oren amp; Bar Tal (2011:112), in broad, delegitimization refers to stereotypes with

Furthermore the scholar states that it is based on tremendously negative outgroup classification and

Lab Report On The Heat Of Neutralization
Introduction: Every chemical change is accompanied by a change in energy usually in the form of
heat. If heat is evolved, the reaction is exothermic, and if heat is absorbed, the reaction is
endothermic. The energy change of a reaction that occurs at constant pressure is called the heat of
reaction or the enthalpyof reaction (О”Hr). This quantity of heat is measured experimentally by
allowing the reaction to occur in a calorimeter. In this experiment you will determine the heat of
neutralization when an acidand a base react to form 1 mole of water. In a perfect calorimeter, heat is
exchanged only between the reaction and the calorimeters water. Technically, some heat may may
be absorbed the calorimeter. All calorimeters exchange some heat with its environment. This
amount of heat is called the calorimeters heat capacity (the amount of of heat required to raise its
temperature 1в€ Celsius). We are going to pretend that our calorimeter is the perfect calorimeter.
Purpose: You will determine the molar heat of neutralization of 1.00 M HCL and 1.00 M NaOH in
Kilojoules.
Materials:
Goggles Graduated cylinder Drying wand Calorimeter Acid and base Thermometer Beaker to
transfer liquids Paper cups
Procedure:
Carefully measure 75 of 1.0 M NaOH in a 100 ml graduated cylinder and pour it into the
calorimeter. Leaving the thermometer out, place the top on the calorimeter. Rinse the graduated
cylinder with some tap water. Then rinse the graduated cylinder with some about 10.0 ml of the
1.0 M HCl. Completely dry the graduated cylinder with a paper towel drying wand. Carefully
measure 6.25 ml of the 1.0 M HCl. Leaving the HCl in the graduated cylinder measure the initial
temperature of acid. 27.8в€ C Rinse the thermometer with tap water and dry. Insert the
thermometer in the calorimeters top and measure the initial temperature of the base 28.2в€ C
Carefully add all of the acid to the base in the calorimeter being careful not to splash any acid on
the upper sides of the calorimeter. Stir the mixture gently with the thermometer observing the
temperature every 15 seconds for the next 2 minutes. Seconds: 15s: 31, 30s: 31, 45s:31, 60s:31,

Tennessee Williams s Tragic Comedy
Once Williams made a name for himself, during his time at school, he rose in popularity rather
fast. While he was at the start of his career, he would become so full of energy [h]e probably
needed some of those boosters to help maintain that fast paced, energetic level of performance
(Herbert 65). Even though he was energetic enough and look as if to have unlimited jokes, he
was said to have stolen other comedian jokes. Many other comedians would not perform in front
of Williams in case he decided to steal their work. Ultimately, he began staying outside whichever
club he was performing at that night so one could blame him for stealing jokes but, there
[appeared to be] some professional jealousy going on (Herbert 67). Once this rivalry

The Gospel Of Matthew, The Infancy Narrative
In the Gospel of Matthew, the infancy narrative contributes a large sum of background information
of Jesus that contributes to the development of Matthew s Christology. In order to analyze how
Matthew develops the Christology, we have to cut the infancy narrative into sections. This paper
will discuss background information of the writing of this Gospel, literary elements of Jesus
miraculous conception that reinforce his Jewishness, how Magi and literary devices help to
understand Matthew s Christology, what important biblical hero the infancy narrative parallels, and
what foreshadowing is caused from this infancy narrative. Comparatively, the use of divine
intervention in dreams to fulfill prophecy has been a key focus of the infancy narrative in order to
create an unusual birth narrative and develop the unique Christology that Matthew envisioned
specifically for the Jewish Messiah.
When studying the Gospel of Matthew, Scholars have dated the book to be written sometime
between the ages of 80 and 90 CE. Scholars have also estimated the book to have been written
somewhere outside of Palestine, potentially in Antioch, Syria. Antioch was a very wealthy and
educated area with a large Jewish community (Study Bible, 1665 1667). From what evidence
permits, it s estimated that the whole purpose of the gospel was meant as a means of correcting
the Gospel of Mark by emphasizing the Jewishness of Jesus as the glorious Messiah of the Jews.
There is also a stress to all the followers

Corporate Governance And Regulation In Australia
it might be said:
I Introduction
The primary problem with the current approach to regulation in Australia is that it predominantly
links corporate interests to those of the shareholders, with little or no consideration given to the
employees, the community, consumers and other stakeholders. This essay will explore the concepts
of corporate governance and regulation and then critique the hard law, soft law and hybrid
approaches to regulation. An explanation will then be provided as to why the hybrid approach
remains the most appropriate regulation mechanism, followed by an explanation of the hybrid
solution identified to get corporations to consider the interests of key stakeholders.
II Discussion
A Defining corporate governance and regulation
Over the past few decades the term corporate governance has become quite commonplace, with
considerable debate arising as to the intersection between corporate governance and regulation. The
scope and content of corporate governance in and of itself is quite wide, capturing the structures,
processes and systems, both formal and informal, by which power is exercised, constrained,
monitored and accounted for in the management of a corporation .
Similarly, the definitions provided of regulation in literature are broad ranging, but they ultimately
highlight the role of regulation in controlling corporate conduct. Nonetheless, it should be noted
that these mechanisms of control are not limited to legislation, administrative

Scorching A Laminate Kitchen Counter
Laminate kitchen counters are easy to burn or scorch with a hot pan. To avoid damaging your
kitchen counter top, you should always use a trivet. However, if an accident does occur, you
can try a few different methods to fix the burn on a laminate kitchen counter. Step 1: Create a
paste with baking soda and water. Use steel wool to work the paste into the burned area, and lift
the stain. TIP: If a baking soda paste will not lift the stain on the counter, try using Ajax or Comet
and water to create a paste to attempt to lift the stain. Step 2: Use a sponge and water to remove
the paste after you have finished scrubbing. Dry the area with a rag. Step 3: Buff the kitchenwith

layer of laminate, making a serious mark that will not be able to be fixed by removing the burn

and a metal putty knife. Clean the knife immediately after use. Allow the epoxy to harden for the
full time recommended by the manufacturer before continuing. TIP: Only mix enough two part
epoxy for the job, paying particular attention to the required proportions. Once mixed two part
epoxy must be used within 20 minutes: a chemical reaction, not outside air, is responsible for
epoxy hardening. Step 2: Sand the area with a fine grit sandpaper to remove any rough patches. Use
a tack cloth or soft cloth to remove any dust that was a result of the sanding. Step 3: Apply laminate
sealant to the surface of the epoxy patch and the surrounding kitchen counter to blend the sealant.
TIP: If your kitchen counter appears to be a bit worn, clean the rest of the kitchen counter

How was the use of coffee in society different from previous beverages?
Spirits were typically used for getting drunk, while coffee was not. Beer and wine were often used
for social, religious, or everyday events. Coffee was seen as a sophisticated beverage, meant for the
minds of scientists and thinkers.
How was the Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment a sharp break from the past?
The Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment were extremely different than what the past was.
They both encouraged a new type of thinking: what is rational, and what is not. They both also
aspired to have new ideas, and new ways of believing. In the Medieval Ages, rationality was never

Coca Cola and the Rise of America (Chapters 11 and 12):
What was the origin of Coca Cola?
The original source of all carbonated drinks was Joseph Priestley. Aside from being an English
clergyman and scientist, his curiosity sparked from the gas that bubbled from fermentation vats.
Using this interest in gas, he created sparkling water in 1772. Basing his knowledge off of
Priestley s work, John Pemberton created a syrup that was originally made for medical purposes.
He used this syrup and sparkling water to create the tasty drink known as Coca Cola .
How was the beverage used medically? What were the additives?
Medically, Coca Cola was mainly used to relieve stomach problems, but was also used as a
painkiller. The coca leaves of the Incas were used as an additive in Coca Cola, which contained the
addictive drug cocaine (the cocaine was removed in the early 20th century). The second main
additive was the kola nut, responsible for the high amount of caffeine in

Treasure Hunters Versus Archeology
Since the number of shipwreck discoveries has been increasing over the years, there is a constant
disagreement between treasure hunters and archaeologists regarding who has the right to recover
artifacts from these underwater sites. This conflict is causing people to consider the positive and
negative aspects of both sides of the issue. The documentary, Deep Sea Treasure Hunters Versus
Archaeologists, shows the importance of archaeology for understanding the past and settles the
debate between the treasure hunters and archaeologists. This film suggests that a more efficient
system could be developed for the greater good of archaeology if the two sides worked together.

This viewpoint is the archaeologists who are siding with the treasure hunters in the debate. An
example of one of these people would be an archaeologist who actually once worked with the
treasure hunter, Fisher. He states that the treasure hunters have an equal or higher value of
knowledge of the subject of maritime archaeology. A solid point he makes in his argument is that
he had three labs and more archaeologists on his time than any governmental agency at the time.
He also states that due to the lack of funding for the archaeologists, treasure hunters are sometimes
the ones to rely on to excavate the underwater sites. His final point is that an excavation is a
destructive process no matter who is working on the site. Knowing this side of the argument, it
must be asked if the real damage here is the potential for profit. The potential profit, with inferior
knowledge of the subject, is likely the reason treasure hunters would cause more damage. A lack in
knowledge to find significance in artifacts in relation to others in the archaeological record could
potentially give false information on the

Renewable Energy And Natural Gas
Finally, the last form of power generation to be examined before the moral analysis is renewable
energy, for example wind and solar power. Renewable energy is the least established method of
generating electricity and is therefore still heavily tied up in research. By definition, renewable
energy sources have a theoretically limitless amount of energy production since they do not deplete
any resources through their use. This means that for as many years as humans inhabit the earth they
can use renewable energies, such as solar, wind, hydro power or others, which has much more
potential than the 100 years for coal and natural gas. Renewable energyalso has fewer negative
environmental impacts since it does not directly release any... Show more content on

One utilitarian approach used to determine which act is most ethical, is cost benefit analysis. This
analysis compares the potential benefits against the costs (financial, physical risks etc.) of possible
decisions. For choosing which energy source the public should invest money in and engineers
should invest research in, the criterion detailed above are compared. For cost benefit analysis,
shown in Table 1, the effect on future generations is incorporated at the same value as the effect on
current generations. For the cost criterion, renewable energy is currently the least beneficial in
regards to price to the public, cost of updating current technologies, researching new technologies,
and implementing new infrastructure. Natural gas has lower costs related to infrastructure and
technology changes than renewable energy, but when compared to coal, it has higher public cost as
well as higher implementation costs. Consequently, for the greatest amount of happiness for people,
which is related to lower costs, coal is the best energy source. Furthermore, natural gas has a much
higher efficiency than renewables and coal, which have similar efficiencies. Human fulfilment,
coming from happiness in the utilitarian theory, relates to the best/most effective use of resources,
i.e. people do not like to waste time or money. Therefore, natural gas, with

1906 San Andreas Fault Earth Quake: A Catalyst to Scientific Understanding In 1906 a
geological event occurred that has impacted not only the United States, but also the global

parts of California in shambles for nearly 300 miles (Galvin). People were capable of feeling the
seismic activity as far north as Oregon, southern California, and reports of vibrations were even
felt in Nevada. This paper will discuss what exactly happened on April 18, 1906, why the
earthquakeoccurred, why the earthquake has historical significance, and how similar earthquakes
impact the environment and people. Finally, this paper will conclude with a discussion on how
information obtained from the San Andreas earthquake helped to educate scientist about the

Everyone would always be taller than me and make me reach for a pencil as they held it up high.
In addition, I also had a big head which also gave kids another opportunity to make fun of me.

Hypotheses On the Origin of Birds Essay
Hypotheses On the Origin of Birds
Since the advent of the theory of evolution the origin of birds has been a thriving topic in science.
Many ideas and hypotheses have been presented, but only two stand today: that birds are
descendents of ancient thecodont stem reptiles, and that birds are the direct descendents of a group
of dinosaurs known as the coelurosaurs. Both hypotheses pose many interesting and insightful ideas
based on information obtained from the fossil record. There is not enough evidence at this time to
determine which hypothesis, if either, is right. Only more hard work by scientists will tell. Until then
we have only speculation, but speculation based in observed evidence.
The origin of birds is one of the great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Theropods are a diverse group of bipedal saurischian dinosaurs (see cladogram). They include
the largest terrestrial carnivores ever to have walked the earth. Several characters typify a
theropod: hollow bones, three main fingers on the manus (hand), and three main (weight
bearing) toes on the pes (foot). Most theropods had sharp, recurved teeth useful for tearing flesh,
and claws were present on the ends of all of the fingers and toes (Hutchinson 2000). It is thought
that birds are descendents of the group of theropods known as the coelurosaur or maniraptora.
(There is debate as to whether these two groups should be one, so for the sake of this paper, I will
refer to them as coelurosaurs.) This group can be typified by such species as Velociraptor and
Deinonychus (Hutchinson 2000).
The other hypothesis is that birds arose much earlier than dinosaurs from a group known to be the
ancestors of theropods: the thecodonts (Dingus and Rowe 1998). Thecodonts were small, agile
reptiles with long tails and short forelimbs, thought to include the ancestral stock of all other
archosaurs, including birds, all dinosaurs, pterosaurs (extinct flying reptiles), and crocodilians
(Anonymous 2000).

The theropod hypothesis puts the entry of birds into the evolutionary arena after the line of descent
had continued from thecodonts to the saurischian dinosaurs and their subsequent split into

The Potential Benefits Of Cloning
Cloning
Cloning has been one of the most widely discussed and controversial scientific topics in the past
decade. Cloning has been applied in many fields including the creation of new breeds of plants
and animals. However, the cloning of plants has been practiced for hundreds of years. Cloning can
be done on a larger level in animals and has potential benefits. The general process of cloning is to
take one cell from the parent making the offspring and parent genetically identical (Tsunoda and
Kato, 158 161). In addition by making completely identical cells, we can apply different
treatments to different clones to see if they react in different ways. The potential benefits of
cloning out way the consequences of cloning. In this paper I will first elaborate on
microorganisms. Then I will talk about plants, animal and human cloning, and the controversies in
cloning. Introductory work in Microorganisms Bacteria and yeast produce clones of themselves
naturally through the process of binary fission, which results in two identical daughter cells
(Boundless). Since their simple reproductive system and life cycle, they are natural hosts in
development of different more advanced methods of cloning. Bacteria and yeasts can be cloned in
a matter of hours, which make them ideal for studying because of their rapid reproduction abilities.
Bacteria and yeast were originally studied as models for cloning and still are. Plant Cloning

Contemplative Importance
The Importance of Contemplative Practices in an Academic Environment (pt. 1)
Contemplative practices can take several forms, including meditation, prayers, and certain physical
exercises such as yoga. Before taking Education in the USA, I had spent very little time
participating in these practices except for the occasional yoga session my former tennis coach
would instruct me to attend. However, these were cases of me superficially participating in that
practice. Since participating in our Wednesday discussions which include a 5 to 10 minute period of
meditation, the what s present/what are we experiencing? exercises, and occasionally, the
placement of different objects and words in the center of the room I have become increasingly
aware of the importance of these practices in relation to both the material we are covering in
lectures as well as our individual beings. In my opinion, the respective purposes of these different
contemplative practices have been to cultivate a sense of mental calmness while taking a break
from our busy lives, identify the importance of fully embracing the present moment, and expose us
to different viewpoints and reactions regarding certain topics, ultimately forcing us to think
critically and respond constructively to them. The meditation portion of our Wednesday discussions
allows us to take a step away from the rigorous classwork and constant worrying about due dates by
instead focusing solely on our breathing. Since arriving at

Based on the latest Census review, more than half of Americans with dementia due to AD are at the
moderate or severe stages of the disease. The accumulating care burdens associated with the
progression of AD place considerable stress on caregivers and families of the person with AD, and
often determine whether that person is placed in a nursing home. Furthermore, greater impairments
in cognition, ADL, and behavior are associated with higher societal costs of AD related care.
Successful symptomatic therapies, particularly in the moderate and severe stages of the disease,
may provide substantial health and quality of life benefits, not only for the patient, but also for
those in their caregiving network via reduced AD related burden and stress. Moreover, effective

Plato s Parmenides
Introduction to Plato s Parmenides: Plato generates and develops the character of Parmenides as
an intelligent adversary to Socrates in his argument for the Theory of Forms. This theory
incorporates the concept of forms and how it ultimately endures a path of ongoing regress. The
focus of this paper will revolve around the different aspects of the Theory of Forms, the refutation,
known as the Third Man Argument, and why the Theory of Forms can be defended.
An Introspection into the Theory of Forms and the Third Man Argument: The Theory of Forms
basically states that all objects in the world possess a form. An illustration of a form would be
oneness . Per Plato, it is possible for someone to demonstrate that all things are one by partaking of
oneness, and that these same things are also many by partaking of multitude (644). Although each
form is unique and distinct from one another, objects can partake in numerous forms. For example,
qualities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An adversary of the Theory of Forms may claim that forms are not unchangeable due to the fact that
they partake in other forms, and that may constitute as changing or alteration. This is inaccurate
because each form is separate from one another. Plato furthers this statement by arguing that certain
forms themselves are separate and the things that partake of them are separate as well (645). So, if
forms are considered separate, then they are never able to become something else; thus, they are not
changing or capable of alteration. The only things that have the capability to change are things that
have incorporated mixed natures, such as beautiful things (Lecture, March 6, 2017). In this instance,
beautiful things are not a form because they share in the concept of beauty (Lecture, March 6,
2017). Since, forms do not have mixed natures, they are incapable of

Arguments Against Animal Testing Essay
Animal Testing There is much debate over whether animal testing should be allowed or not.
Some people think that it is not essential to sacrifice animals for human benefits because they are
being abused and tortured severely during experiments. Some others who stand against animal
testing claim that humans eliminate many lives on earth in order to safe humans lives, so there
is no justice because even animals have the right to live on earth, yet these people do not
consider the truth that animals are being used in the food industry or in the laboratories. Thus, if
someone asks how many animals are being used in the laboratory experiments around the world
every year, who can give an accurate answer? It can be one, ten, or fifty million. It is difficult to
find the exact figure on this question because people only read news through mass media such as
having a new vaccine which can help human avoid uterus cancer or a new medicine help humans
cure strokes, but they also need to know how many lives of the animalswould have to take in order
to get theses vaccines. Therefore, some organizes think that animal testingis one of the most
disturbing experiments ever, and it should be banned. Despite many controversies with opposing
opinions, a compromise can be made in order to reduce the use of animals in the laboratory
experiments. In the problem, there are always opposite sides which can create the debate about
using animals in the laboratory experiments. Some people want to

The Equal Protection Clause Of The Fourteenth Amendment
The equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution was at first created to
protect against racial discrimination, but the Supreme Court later expanded the clause to also
providing equal treatment amongst different races. The clause says, No state shall...deny to any
person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws (U.S. Constitution. Art./Amend. XIV,
Sec. 1.) A person could not be discriminated upon solely because of his or her race and if the law
treated a group of people differently, then a valid reason for the discrepancy of different treatment
must exist. Racial minorities, but mainly women, have historically been subjected and made
vulnerable to harsh restrictions on activities such as voting, attending college, and working as
lawyers. These restrictions, based on stereotypes overlooked the actual capability and potential of
each individual woman. For many cases dealing with discriminationof women, the Court looked to
another important element of equal protection, which stated that unfair treatment couldn t be based
on immutable distinctions, such as race and gender, because those fixed distinctions are
uncontrollable and unrelated to ability. In the case of Frontiero v. Richardson, 411 U.S. 677
(1973), the Supreme Court was just one vote short of adopting gender as a suspect classification.
In United States v. Virginia, 518 U.S. 515 (1996), women rights supporters were very pleased with
the Supreme Court s ruling and remain

Analysis Of Frank Jackson s What Mary DidnT Know
The topic I chose for this paper is the article What Mary Didn t Know written by Frank Jackson.
Essentially, What Mary Didn t Know focuses on a woman, Mary, who is confined to a room where
nothing contains any colour, everything is in black and white. She is educated this same way,
strictly through means black and white tools. She is taught every possible thing there is to know
about the physical nature of our world. Jackson concludes that physicalismmust be false, for when
she is let out of that black and white room, having complete knowledge of the physical world, that
she will learn what the colour red is. Jackson believes that through his article, he has disproven
physicalism. This paper will prove why Jackson s article is false, and... Show more content on

The second counter argument Jackson could have is that the realm of mental states has always
existed. To say that a realm of mental states exists during a time without life, without conscious, is
nothing short of foolish. A separate realm of reality made up of nothing more than experiences
cannot possibly exist without anything to experience it. If there is no living thing to perceive a
reality solely made up of mental states, in what capacity would it exist? The simple answer is that
it could not possibly exist, which would result in a time where the world, existence itself, was
physicalist. Therefore, his second possible counter argument is not feasible either. This leaves only
one possible solution. The world had to be at some point physicalist, which will be used as a tool
throughout the rest of this paper.
II: Approach from Evolution Jellyfish have been on Earth for more than 650 million years. But
there is something even more interesting about them: they completely lack a brain. Despite this,
they are still able to do incredible things such as touch, smell, and see. Even if it is in a way that
is incomprehensible to us, these animals are still able to experience the world in some form. By
Jackson s logic, this should be utterly impossible. For sensations must exist in a separate realm
away from this reality, how could they access this realm if they have absolutely no thought? No
consciousness? And yet

Summary Of The Essay Not Rants
Essays, Not Rants! 218: A Response
There s a recent New York Times article I came across that laments how the rise of the superhero
genre has conflated actor stardom with character stardom. The article itself doesn t really chase
down the points too well, but the central gist (as far as I can see) is that in the recent slate of
films, characters have come to trump actors. As Wesley Morris suggests in the article, when you
watch Oceans Eleven, it s George Clooney doing all the cool stuff as Danny Ocean; but when you
watch Rush, you don t see Chris Hemsworth as James Hunt, you see Thor as James Hunt. And as
more big name actors get roped in to superhero films (Cate Blanchett s gonna be in Thor:
Ragnarok!), it s more actors being roped in to playing a specific character.
Which makes Morris point of view seem a little weird. He implies that the fun of Ocean s Eleven
is seeing the star studded cast play off of each other, whereas Civil War is more about watching the
characters interact; the former being better. Which begs the question of whether or not you re
supposed to forget that it s an actor playing a character and not something happening before you.
Now, the attitude here feels a lot like that kid who s angry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In any case, based on the title, is about the changing role of celebrity that the uptick of superhero
film franchises have brought about. Which, alright, sure; but we ve also changed from the studio
system of the 50s. Marvel with the MCU (and, Fox with X Men and DC with their attempts at
catchup) are working on a new form of storytelling, one that sits somewhere at the nexus of film,
television, comics, and those old serials from forever ago. Maybe it s time that the nature of
stardom changes, what with the steady rise of nerd culture into the mainstream. After all, the geeks

The New Woman in Cecil B. DeMille s The Cheat Essay
Cecil B. DeMille is regarded by many to be the founder of Hollywood, given that his 1914 film,
The Squaw Man, was the first important full length motion picture made in Hollywood. As Joel W.
Finler considers, the film accelerated the trend toward establishing California as the new home of
movie making . However, it is in his depiction of the `new womanthat the director is both
celebrated and derided. In many of his films, DeMille illustrates the rise of consumer culture that
had begun in the latter half of the nineteenth century. During its escalation, goods took on a
symbolic life while middle class women attained the characteristics of commodities as they moved
into the public sphere. Their movement can be put down to their refusal... Show more content on

In The Cheat, DeMille uses the notion of the `new women to critique society in the era. While the
film does not deny Edith the freedom that had come to be associated with the idea, it elucidates
[o]ne of the dangers of the modern urban culture [namely] the disappearance of traditional methods
of knowing social status and presumed moralities associated with that status , a hazard which meant
[women s] decreased privatisation at the cost of their increased commodification .
Indeed, the early part of the film portrays an accurate depiction of society at the time, without
overt prejudice or obsession with issues (which are dealt with in the narrative later). The society
on show in DeMille s classic is one at the hands of an invasion by consumerism where, [w]hether
social activist or flapper, the `new woman expected to function in both public and private spheres
despite controversy regarding the nature of her role . This movement came to be characterised by,
how expensive and fashionable...the garments [are] that the wife wears . As Thorstein Veblen

Discuss the Strengths Weaknesses of Anti – Social...
For the 10 years that the Labour government has been in power, it has strived to reduce crime all
over the UK. One of the main targets of the Labour Party was the rising number of Anti Social
incidents reported to the police every day. In order to combat this growing phenomenon that is
today s Youth Culture , the ASBO was created. The ASBO or Anti Social Behaviour Order, to
quote its official name is a civil order made against a person who has been shown to have
participated or initiated in anti social behaviour. This is defined as conduct which caused or was
likely to cause alarm, harassment, or distress to one or more persons not of the same household as

Many people feel the ASBO is an unnecessary form of harassment and they are not researched
properly before being issued. A prime example of this is the case of Mrs X who was served an
ASBO purely on false allegations. She wasn t made aware of the ASBO allegations until the
papers were served to her for a hearing in December 2004. Thankfully, the ASBO was overturned
by the court and Mrs X was compensated but the council was criticised by the Local Government
Ombudsman for abuse of power of nightmarish proportions (BBC News 05/07/2007). This report
does little to alleviate the public s worries with regards to the ASBO especially when the uses for
ASBOs are now getting more and more obscure with more and more government funding
spent:Running a business from homeParking Illegally abandoned vehiclesOvergrown, unkempt

What Does China Think Analysis
Book Review: What Does China Think?
China s rise has been discussed as a remarkable affair for years, and now China is ready to
become another superpower. In a book, What Does China Think? by Mark Leonard, the battle of
ideas in China is being introduced and shown to the readers; many opinions and assertions on
Chinese reforms within economic and political perspectives are being discussed to find ways that
China should pursue. The author conjures up that China has grown into a huge economic power,
exemplifying the numerous amount of Chinese products which are labeled with Made in China .
However, the author also deals with problems that China is confronting; the author includes

One Chinese thinker, Zhang Weiying, formulated the idea of dual track pricing with introducing
an allegory, called the village of zebras . In the story of the allegory, elders in a village argued
endlessly that their village s horses were better than the neighboring zebras. However, they found
out that the zebras were actually superior to their horses. Realizing the reality, the elders confronted
and worried about one problem; their villagers were too accustomed to the horses, resulting from
the previous elders argument, so that embracing the zebras would be difficult for them. Hence, the
elders created a plan; they painted their horses with strips every night while other villagers were
sleeping. When villagers found out and shocked about the zebras, the elders assured that those
zebras were actually their own horses that were painted with stripes. Finally, all the villagers
became accustomed with the zebras; the replacement was successful. By implying this allegory,
Weiying argued that dual track pricing would help to promote China s economic growth without
implementing new idea suddenly. Dual track pricing is an idea that publishes market prices and
state controlled prices simultaneously. Increasing the ratio of the market prices, the state controlled
prices could be replaced. Accordingly, most Chinese thinkers advocated that the gradual change
would work more appropriately and effectively than the sudden change for the economic

Adam Smith The Wealth Of Nations
In the novel, The Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith attempts to construct a new, fresh
understanding of what economics is. Smith was not content with the mercantilist system that
existed at the time of writing the novel (1776), however, he gives a very convoluted but creative
and unique account of an economic system found in the simple nature of mankind. The text is
defined through the use of fact heavy segways, tables and graphs, and Smith s personal research,
establishing his pledge to give evidence for what seem like timeless observations about the
nature of economics.
Books one and two mainly focus on the evolution of the division of labor idea and
describing how this division adds to the wealth of a society by creating a surplus that can be

Book three discusses Great Britain s social evolution, which begins, according to Smith,
with hunting and gathering societies and progresses through agricultural stages to ultimately
arrive at a state of international commerce. Smith claims that the fall of Rome and the beginning
of feudalism impeded progression by creating lower efficiency.
LaPenotiere 2
Book four criticizes mercantile commerce that characterized Europe during Smith s time of
writing the novel. Smith s main criticism of mercantilism is that it directly related precious
metals with value and wealth. Smith claims that, the real measure of the wealth of a nation is the
amount of goods and services that the nation creates, which, in today s society, is very true.
Coming to this realization, Smith comes up with the idea of a nation s gross domestic product,
which is an essential component of modern day economics. A nation s wealth isn t increased by
hoarding precious metals, but by expanding the market through production capacity, also simply
known as, increasing trade.
In the fifth and final book, Smith discusses what roles of government are appropriate

publication, the text was seen as heretical, as it antagonized traditional Roman Catholic values, and
contradicted beliefs of the revolution of the planets. The text was immediately banned, and all

to remain in the vacancy of his home, and never depart from his residency for the remainder of his
lifetime. The telescope immediately morphed people s intentions to learn.

Benefits of working in IP teams Benefits of working in IP teams are numerous; you actually
have someone to consult with regarding your patient to establish treatment ideas and how to
progress the patient as much as possible. Also one may have noticed a deficit or skill you didn t,
which increases the ability to treat the patient as a whole. In an IP team, you get to see what
other therapist is doing during their treatment sessions, which will give you ideas to
individualize for your own patients to increase the progress. Also you have new graduates who
have new and creative ideas, but you have the seasoned therapist who can show you tricks of the
trade to assist with achieving desired goals. Working in this setting you have therapist who have
different strong points in different areas, therefore you know who to consult with regards to
different conditions or injuries with patients (C.Young, personal communication, June 3, 2015).
Challenges of working in IP teams The challenges of working in IP teams the interviewee notice
is that when you and your partner do not have the same work ethic, as well as agreement on
treatment style to best suit the patient. Sometimes while working in an IP team, some healthcare
providers may have the tendency to take over because one may not be doing what you want or feel
is correct for the patient. A lot of times you do not want to step on other therapist toes but you know

  • 2. Henry A Bird Analysis The reason why I chose this sculpture is because birds symbolize human s power and the ability to escape gravity and achieve success through the effort of climbing higher and taking off into flight. I think Henry is that kind of person, because he never gives up on Zoe, even when times get hard. I think this picture fits Henry s type of style because since he was just working on a sculpture of an elephant I inferred that he likes to sculpt animals and birds, also since he was reading Georgia O Keeffe who drew animals and birds, that he d like to make a sculpture of a bird. That is why this bird fits Henry s type of art style. The reason why I chose this sculpture is because it s very unique. It s remarkable, special, idiosyncratic, one of a kind, extraordinary, peerless. Henry s art style is just the same he uses scraps of metal to make beautiful art sculptures, just like the picture above. The reason why I chose this picture is because Maurie Berry s creations are inspired by rescuing the treasures of the past to produce a work that is both provocative and functional. I also chose this picture is because it was thought out deliberately, and wasn t just rushed. This fits Henry s type of art style is because it was thought out and is very detailed. For example, the bird s feathers was very detailed and didn t just have one long feather. It look like an actual bird. Just like Henry s drawings on the walls. • 3. Wrought Iron Gates Research Paper History of Wrought Iron Gates As with everything in manufacturing and design, wrought iron has a long line of history. It has been around for several centuries due to it s long lasting durability and beauty. Wrought iron unlike cast iron is not brittle and can be beat in to elaborate designs when heated. When wrought iron gates first came about they were all heated and molded by hand. In this day and age you can still find several blacksmiths who will still do this by hand. However, most of the time it is done in a factory so that they all look the same to provide a seamless look. The first wrought iron gate was manufactured in the 18th century and was made for a cathedral. The priest who didn t want a fence at all said that if there had to be one, he wanted it made from wrought iron over any other material. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first gate around the White House in the United States was made of wrought iron. This is because it provided the security the White House needed. Other than knowing that wrought iron was extremely durable due to the components that it is made of, they learned that it would be strong enough to protect the White House due to an accident. This accident happened when a man lost control of his car and almost crashed into a building. The only reason he did not crash was a wrought iron figure that stopped him before he reached it. Now days wrought iron gates can be found all over the globe. They are great for homes as well as businesses. Not only do these gates provided durability and protection, but they also looked wonderful while doing it. One of the benefits people love most about this type of gate, is that the design possibilities are endless. Kazu Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go Throughout Kazu Ishiguro s novel Never Let Me Go, he choices to depict children as outsiders to the world which can be furthered by the setting in Britain s countryside because it helps give a sense distance from true reality. In the framework throughout his novel Ishiguro focuses on three main characters Kathy, Ruth, and Tommy. These three students are seen by others to have an advantage because they were lucky enough to be raised at Hailsham by the guardians. This directly correlates with the closing of Hailsham because it questions the motives behind schools like Hailsham and their ultimate goal of education. One major worry for society at this time in the novel is that these cloned children will eventually replace normal ones in everyday life. Throughout the novel the fear of the unknown stands outs not just to the outside world and their perceptions of clones but also the children growing up at Hailsham The most common criticism that is raised to cloning in general is that it entitles one to start playing God. Throughout the novel, Ishiguro examines many other ways that individuals might play God. This can be seen when Chrissie and Rodney try to change their fate by getting a deferral while in return they are playing God much to the extent the scientists who created them in the first place were. The organ donation program was started in the first place on the idea that the clones owe their lives to society, and should be prepared to sacrifice themselves later in their life. In Jean Luc Nancy s Identity, he struggles to explain that mysterious puzzle that is an entity s identity. Right at the start of Nancy s Identity, Nancy stresses that the state has no power over a nation s identity. He declares, the state is only ever the instrument of the nation: It is not its role to define, and even less to constitute, the identity of the nation (Nancy 1). Another example of the father s attempt to have fun with his children is his initial plan to attend the arm wrestling tournament. This is shot down by the children, but they still find an interesting place to have a nice lunch. The day proved to be a fun and relaxing day for the family, and hinted that less disastrous times are in store for them. Next, the fact that the daughter has just received her driver s license is a step towards happier times. Driving on her own is probably one of the most exciting times of her life, and she makes it known to her family that she received the highest grade in the class. The father trusts her and lets her drive all the way home, which raises her confidence and shows the trusting relationship between the father and daughter. Another example which shows happier times coming to the family is when the father tells the children that he has both good and bad news. He goes on to ask which would the children prefer to hear first. The daughter immediately answers that she wishes to hear the bad first. This is surprising to her father, but it shows that she is beginning to mature. The father is glad to hear that the daughter can handle the bad news, when earlier the truth had to be hidden from her, like the death of the dog. George Lucas also borrowed ideas from other samurai movies such as Sanjuro and Yojimbo both by Akira Kurosawa. Apart from having Asian origins, Star Wars also has Western background. One of the earliest science fiction graphic novels known to man is Flash Gordon. It s clear why George Lucas took some of Flash Gordon s concepts and applied it with his own films. Flash Gordon however, also borrowed it s concepts with an even earlier sci fi comic strip: Buck Rogers. One of the clearest similarities between Star Wars and Flash Gordon is the signature roll up that is present in the start of every Star Wars movie. One less noticeable similarity is the vocabulary of Flash Gordon (which was also taken from Buck Rogers). Since Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers were the only ones that mentioned of futuristic space travel and intergalactic battles, George Lucas based the vocabulary of Star Wars on these two science fiction works of his time. • 22. Lab Report On The Heat Of Neutralization Introduction: Every chemical change is accompanied by a change in energy usually in the form of heat. If heat is evolved, the reaction is exothermic, and if heat is absorbed, the reaction is endothermic. The energy change of a reaction that occurs at constant pressure is called the heat of reaction or the enthalpyof reaction (О”Hr). This quantity of heat is measured experimentally by allowing the reaction to occur in a calorimeter. In this experiment you will determine the heat of neutralization when an acidand a base react to form 1 mole of water. In a perfect calorimeter, heat is exchanged only between the reaction and the calorimeters water. Technically, some heat may may be absorbed the calorimeter. All calorimeters exchange some heat with its environment. This amount of heat is called the calorimeters heat capacity (the amount of of heat required to raise its temperature 1в€ Celsius). We are going to pretend that our calorimeter is the perfect calorimeter. Purpose: You will determine the molar heat of neutralization of 1.00 M HCL and 1.00 M NaOH in Kilojoules. Materials: Goggles Graduated cylinder Drying wand Calorimeter Acid and base Thermometer Beaker to transfer liquids Paper cups Procedure: Carefully measure 75 of 1.0 M NaOH in a 100 ml graduated cylinder and pour it into the calorimeter. The Gospel Of Matthew, The Infancy Narrative In the Gospel of Matthew, the infancy narrative contributes a large sum of background information of Jesus that contributes to the development of Matthew s Christology. In order to analyze how Matthew develops the Christology, we have to cut the infancy narrative into sections. This paper will discuss background information of the writing of this Gospel, literary elements of Jesus miraculous conception that reinforce his Jewishness, how Magi and literary devices help to understand Matthew s Christology, what important biblical hero the infancy narrative parallels, and what foreshadowing is caused from this infancy narrative. Comparatively, the use of divine intervention in dreams to fulfill prophecy has been a key focus of the infancy narrative in order to create an unusual birth narrative and develop the unique Christology that Matthew envisioned specifically for the Jewish Messiah. When studying the Gospel of Matthew, Scholars have dated the book to be written sometime between the ages of 80 and 90 CE. Scholars have also estimated the book to have been written somewhere outside of Palestine, potentially in Antioch, Syria. Antioch was a very wealthy and educated area with a large Jewish community (Study Bible, 1665 1667). From what evidence permits, it s estimated that the whole purpose of the gospel was meant as a means of correcting the Gospel of Mark by emphasizing the Jewishness of Jesus as the glorious Messiah of the Jews. Corporate Governance And Regulation In Australia it might be said: I Introduction The primary problem with the current approach to regulation in Australia is that it predominantly links corporate interests to those of the shareholders, with little or no consideration given to the employees, the community, consumers and other stakeholders. This essay will explore the concepts of corporate governance and regulation and then critique the hard law, soft law and hybrid approaches to regulation. An explanation will then be provided as to why the hybrid approach remains the most appropriate regulation mechanism, followed by an explanation of the hybrid solution identified to get corporations to consider the interests of key stakeholders. II Discussion A Defining corporate governance and regulation Over the past few decades the term corporate governance has become quite commonplace, with considerable debate arising as to the intersection between corporate governance and regulation. The scope and content of corporate governance in and of itself is quite wide, capturing the structures, processes and systems, both formal and informal, by which power is exercised, constrained, monitored and accounted for in the management of a corporation . Similarly, the definitions provided of regulation in literature are broad ranging, but they ultimately highlight the role of regulation in controlling corporate conduct. Nonetheless, it should be noted that these mechanisms of control are not limited to legislation, administrative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A solid point he makes in his argument is that he had three labs and more archaeologists on his time than any governmental agency at the time. Renewable energy is the least established method of generating electricity and is therefore still heavily tied up in research. This means that for as many years as humans inhabit the earth they can use renewable energies, such as solar, wind, hydro power or others, which has much more potential than the 100 years for coal and natural gas. This analysis compares the potential benefits against the costs (financial, physical risks etc.) of possible decisions. For choosing which energy source the public should invest money in and engineers should invest research in, the criterion detailed above are compared. For cost benefit analysis, shown in Table 1, the effect on future generations is incorporated at the same value as the effect on current generations. For the cost criterion, renewable energy is currently the least beneficial in regards to price to the public, cost of updating current technologies, researching new technologies, and implementing new infrastructure. Natural gas has lower costs related to infrastructure and technology changes than renewable energy, but when compared to coal, it has higher public cost as well as higher implementation costs. Consequently, for the greatest amount of happiness for people, which is related to lower costs, coal is the best energy source. Furthermore, natural gas has a much higher efficiency than renewables and coal, which have similar efficiencies. • 38. Hypotheses On the Origin of Birds Essay Hypotheses On the Origin of Birds Since the advent of the theory of evolution the origin of birds has been a thriving topic in science. Many ideas and hypotheses have been presented, but only two stand today: that birds are descendents of ancient thecodont stem reptiles, and that birds are the direct descendents of a group of dinosaurs known as the coelurosaurs. Both hypotheses pose many interesting and insightful ideas based on information obtained from the fossil record. There is not enough evidence at this time to determine which hypothesis, if either, is right. Only more hard work by scientists will tell. Until then we have only speculation, but speculation based in observed evidence. The origin of birds is one of the great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Theropods are a diverse group of bipedal saurischian dinosaurs (see cladogram). They include the largest terrestrial carnivores ever to have walked the earth. Several characters typify a theropod: hollow bones, three main fingers on the manus (hand), and three main (weight bearing) toes on the pes (foot). Most theropods had sharp, recurved teeth useful for tearing flesh, and claws were present on the ends of all of the fingers and toes (Hutchinson 2000). It is thought that birds are descendents of the group of theropods known as the coelurosaur or maniraptora. (There is debate as to whether these two groups should be one, so for the sake of this paper, I will refer to them as coelurosaurs.) This group can be typified by such species as Velociraptor and Deinonychus (Hutchinson 2000). The other hypothesis is that birds arose much earlier than dinosaurs from a group known to be the ancestors of theropods: the thecodonts (Dingus and Rowe 1998). Thecodonts were small, agile reptiles with long tails and short forelimbs, thought to include the ancestral stock of all other archosaurs, including birds, all dinosaurs, pterosaurs (extinct flying reptiles), and crocodilians (Anonymous 2000). The Theropod Hypothesis The theropod hypothesis puts the entry of birds into the evolutionary arena after the line of descent had continued from thecodonts to the saurischian dinosaurs and their subsequent split into ... • 39. The Potential Benefits Of Cloning Cloning Cloning has been one of the most widely discussed and controversial scientific topics in the past decade. Cloning has been applied in many fields including the creation of new breeds of plants and animals. However, the cloning of plants has been practiced for hundreds of years. Cloning can be done on a larger level in animals and has potential benefits. The general process of cloning is to take one cell from the parent making the offspring and parent genetically identical (Tsunoda and Kato, 158 161). In addition by making completely identical cells, we can apply different treatments to different clones to see if they react in different ways. The potential benefits of cloning out way the consequences of cloning. In this paper I will first elaborate on microorganisms. Then I will talk about plants, animal and human cloning, and the controversies in cloning. Introductory work in Microorganisms Bacteria and yeast produce clones of themselves naturally through the process of binary fission, which results in two identical daughter cells (Boundless). Since their simple reproductive system and life cycle, they are natural hosts in development of different more advanced methods of cloning. Bacteria and yeasts can be cloned in a matter of hours, which make them ideal for studying because of their rapid reproduction abilities. Bacteria and yeast were originally studied as models for cloning and still are. Plant Cloning Cloning has different levels of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Contemplative Importance The Importance of Contemplative Practices in an Academic Environment (pt. 1) Contemplative practices can take several forms, including meditation, prayers, and certain physical exercises such as yoga. Before taking Education in the USA, I had spent very little time participating in these practices except for the occasional yoga session my former tennis coach would instruct me to attend. However, these were cases of me superficially participating in that practice. Since participating in our Wednesday discussions which include a 5 to 10 minute period of meditation, the what s present/what are we experiencing? exercises, and occasionally, the placement of different objects and words in the center of the room I have become increasingly aware of the importance of these practices in relation to both the material we are covering in lectures as well as our individual beings. In my opinion, the respective purposes of these different contemplative practices have been to cultivate a sense of mental calmness while taking a break from our busy lives, identify the importance of fully embracing the present moment, and expose us to different viewpoints and reactions regarding certain topics, ultimately forcing us to think critically and respond constructively to them. The meditation portion of our Wednesday discussions allows us to take a step away from the rigorous classwork and constant worrying about due dates by instead focusing solely on our breathing. Plato s Parmenides Introduction to Plato s Parmenides: Plato generates and develops the character of Parmenides as an intelligent adversary to Socrates in his argument for the Theory of Forms. This theory incorporates the concept of forms and how it ultimately endures a path of ongoing regress. The focus of this paper will revolve around the different aspects of the Theory of Forms, the refutation, known as the Third Man Argument, and why the Theory of Forms can be defended. An Introspection into the Theory of Forms and the Third Man Argument: The Theory of Forms basically states that all objects in the world possess a form. An illustration of a form would be oneness . Per Plato, it is possible for someone to demonstrate that all things are one by partaking of oneness, and that these same things are also many by partaking of multitude (644). Although each form is unique and distinct from one another, objects can partake in numerous forms. For example, qualities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, if forms are considered separate, then they are never able to become something else; thus, they are not changing or capable of alteration. The only things that have the capability to change are things that have incorporated mixed natures, such as beautiful things (Lecture, March 6, 2017). Some people think that it is not essential to sacrifice animals for human benefits because they are being abused and tortured severely during experiments. Some others who stand against animal testing claim that humans eliminate many lives on earth in order to safe humans lives, so there is no justice because even animals have the right to live on earth, yet these people do not consider the truth that animals are being used in the food industry or in the laboratories. Thus, if someone asks how many animals are being used in the laboratory experiments around the world every year, who can give an accurate answer? It can be one, ten, or fifty million. It is difficult to find the exact figure on this question because people only read news through mass media such as having a new vaccine which can help human avoid uterus cancer or a new medicine help humans cure strokes, but they also need to know how many lives of the animalswould have to take in order to get theses vaccines. Therefore, some organizes think that animal testingis one of the most disturbing experiments ever, and it should be banned. The Equal Protection Clause Of The Fourteenth Amendment The equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution was at first created to protect against racial discrimination, but the Supreme Court later expanded the clause to also providing equal treatment amongst different races. The clause says, No state shall...deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws (U.S. Constitution. Art./Amend. XIV, Sec. 1.) A person could not be discriminated upon solely because of his or her race and if the law treated a group of people differently, then a valid reason for the discrepancy of different treatment must exist. Racial minorities, but mainly women, have historically been subjected and made vulnerable to harsh restrictions on activities such as voting, attending college, and working as lawyers. These restrictions, based on stereotypes overlooked the actual capability and potential of each individual woman. For many cases dealing with discriminationof women, the Court looked to another important element of equal protection, which stated that unfair treatment couldn t be based on immutable distinctions, such as race and gender, because those fixed distinctions are uncontrollable and unrelated to ability. In the case of Frontiero v. Richardson, 411 U.S. 677 (1973), the Supreme Court was just one vote short of adopting gender as a suspect classification. In United States v. The second counter argument Jackson could have is that the realm of mental states has always existed. To say that a realm of mental states exists during a time without life, without conscious, is nothing short of foolish. A separate realm of reality made up of nothing more than experiences cannot possibly exist without anything to experience it. If there is no living thing to perceive a reality solely made up of mental states, in what capacity would it exist? The simple answer is that it could not possibly exist, which would result in a time where the world, existence itself, was physicalist. Therefore, his second possible counter argument is not feasible either. This leaves only one possible solution. The world had to be at some point physicalist, which will be used as a tool throughout the rest of this paper. Summary Of The Essay Not Rants Essays, Not Rants! 218: A Response There s a recent New York Times article I came across that laments how the rise of the superhero genre has conflated actor stardom with character stardom. The article itself doesn t really chase down the points too well, but the central gist (as far as I can see) is that in the recent slate of films, characters have come to trump actors. As Wesley Morris suggests in the article, when you watch Oceans Eleven, it s George Clooney doing all the cool stuff as Danny Ocean; but when you watch Rush, you don t see Chris Hemsworth as James Hunt, you see Thor as James Hunt. And as more big name actors get roped in to superhero films (Cate Blanchett s gonna be in Thor: Ragnarok!), it s more actors being roped in to playing a specific character. Which makes Morris point of view seem a little weird. He implies that the fun of Ocean s Eleven is seeing the star studded cast play off of each other, whereas Civil War is more about watching the characters interact; the former being better. Which begs the question of whether or not you re supposed to forget that it s an actor playing a character and not something happening before you. In the story of the allegory, elders in a village argued endlessly that their village s horses were better than the neighboring zebras. However, they found out that the zebras were actually superior to their horses. Realizing the reality, the elders confronted and worried about one problem; their villagers were too accustomed to the horses, resulting from the previous elders argument, so that embracing the zebras would be difficult for them. Hence, the elders created a plan; they painted their horses with strips every night while other villagers were sleeping. When villagers found out and shocked about the zebras, the elders assured that those zebras were actually their own horses that were painted with stripes. Finally, all the villagers became accustomed with the zebras; the replacement was successful.
