Anzac Day In Australia
The torment: remembering what you left behind and even worse; the prospect that you may never
return. Watching the eyes of your comrade s glaze over, while your mind explodes with horror.
Nobody can possibly question the fear, the blood, the heartache, and the terrors that haunted those
men for the rest of their lives. Sometimes, we just see all soldiers as one body, one personality; we
forget that each soldier, though fighting for the same cause, had his own moral and mental battles to
attend to. Maybe this is because it s simply too painful for us to comprehend, or maybe it is due to the
generic persona given to the soldiers by the Anzac legend. The Gallipoli campaign, though a terrible
tragedy, provided the then newly federated Australia with an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Some began to argue that the celebrations glorified war and allowed it to be justified. This was
rivalled by the opinion that the Gallipoli tragedies were a defining moment in Australian history, and
that Anzac day had the ability to unify the nation. Those who question the relevance of the Anzac
legend today do so in danger of being labelled as unpatriotic and disrespectful, when in reality, the
legend leaves a lot of deserving people unrepresented. Many
Australians can trace their ancestry back to a person involved in WW1, which means that families
tend to have a more emotional attachment to the topic, and they find comfort and pride in the Anzac
legend.
Although the legend doesn t really capture the diversity amongst the people who stepped up to answer
the call, nor their varying experiences, it gives depth to our nations history, and shows the raw
emotion and the kindred spirit of all the soldiers. There are so many untold stories; so many hidden
identities, and although we can never completely rectify that, it is crucial that we seek out the voices
that will never

The Controversy Of Capital Punishment
The Controversy of Capital Punishment
Capital punishment, or the death penalty, is a form of punishment that has been used as far back as the
Colonial Era in America. Although it has been around for the entirety of American history, most of the
scrutiny and controversy involving capital punishment arose in the 1972 Supreme Court Case of
Furman v. Georgia, in which it was abolished, but quickly returned in 1977. It is evident that many
citizens have ambivalent stances on capital punishment; some believing it is necessary form of
punishment while others believe that the death penalty is a violation of the Eighth Amendment.
Although capital punishment has been used throughout history and is seen by many as a form of
justified punishment, there are many reasons in favor of ending the death penalty completely. Capital
punishment is an unnecessary evil that should be found unconstitutional because of it is not practical,
it is corrupt, and it is unable to deter further homicides from being committed.
A brief history explaining the verdicts made by the Supreme Court regarding capital punishment in
American history needs to be made to understand why capital punishment has become such a national
issue in contemporary America. In the 1972 Supreme Court case Furman v. Georgia, the court ruled
that the, carrying out of the death penalty...constitutes cruel and unusual punishment, (Hugo 1). Since
the death penalty was considered at the time cruel and unusual, it made it in direct

Comparing A Good Man Is Hard To Find And Good Country People
The Power of Judgement
Are there really any good people living on this planet? This question seems to loom in the one s mind
after reading Flannery O Connor s two stories, A Good Man is Hard to Find and Good Country People
. Not only does O Connor portray gruesome imagery throughout both stories, she also incorporates
aspects of religion. What makes these stories captivating is the element of pure shock during the
climax. Nevertheless, the short stories both help the readers visualize how judging others or jumping
to conclusions about certain individuals can have a dramatic conclusion.
O Connor enlightens the readers about how judging a book by its cover or jumping to certain
conclusions about others can be fatal. This is shown in Good Country People when the main character
Hulga gets too comfortable with a bible salesman named Manley Pointer. Even though Pointer seems
simple or of good country people , he is the polar opposite. In fact, he has a secret identity and cons
disabled women. However, the reader does not understand this shocking twist until Pointer gets close
to Hulga and convinces her that they are in love just to steal her prosthetic leg. O Connor also uses the
theme of judgment in another short story.

Manley Pointer is trying to sell the women bibles. Also religion is shown when Hulga and Pointer are
discussing believes. What is very interesting is that Pointer claimed to be a good Christian man, but is

Comparison of the Tempest and Forbidden Planet Essay
Jamie Roberts
ENGL 1000P2
Prof. B. Johnson

Morbius Fatal Folly
As pointed out by Merrell Knighten in his essay called The Triple Paternity of Forbidden Planet, the
main difference between Shakespeare s The Tempest and the 1956 science fiction adaptation
Forbidden Planet (referred to as FP) is the use and control of power. In The Tempest, Prospero knows
what power he holds through the use of his books and spells, and ultimately uses these powers to
restore order to the island. However, in forbidden Planet, Morbius powers are unknown to him and
ultimately lead to his demise. This essay will show how Morbius may be considered a more disastrous
character than Prospero due to his lack of realization of the power which ... Show more content on

For Miranda s lover Ferdinand, the film inserts Commander Adams who is in fact the leader of the
rescue expedition sent to relieve Dr. Morbius and his supposed companions. There are no relations
between the film and the play with regards to Morbius fellow colonizers of Altair 4, but this has to do
with the fact that the film was a sci fi adaptation. The drunken butler Stephano is countered in the film
with the Tennessee bourbon sloshing space cook. The character of Caliban resonates in the film by use
of the Id monster, and finally Ariel is engrossed through the character of Robby the Robot. A closer
reading of some of the characters in FP will reveal parallels outlined by Campos. Campos shines light
on the fact that [Prospero and Morbius] are figures that, isolated from the rest of mankind, have
devoted their lives to the study of some books which have granted them an extraordinary, almost
supernatural power (Campos, 285). The main connections between the two are their utilization of
science and magic. As pointed out by Campos, the film gives a clear implication that science becomes
the magic of the future (286). This statement seems to be truthful as in Shakespeare s time magic
would be thought to be no different from the scientific breakthroughs of our time. For example a
Shakespearean audience would marvel at the strides science has taken in the modern day, such as the
utilization of electricity.

Agent Gibs Essay
NCIS, or Naval Criminal Investigative Service, is a crime investigation show focusing on the
investigations done within this branch of the government. This episode was investigating a naval
officer that had a stroke and died on Air Force one after having dinner with the president. Therefore
this investigation involved the NCIS, FBI, and Secret Service fighting over control of the case. This
show, like many other shows involving the investigation of crime had some themes that are talked
about in Surette, 2015 (Bellisario, 2003). One is these themes is that the main character of this show,
Agent Gibs, is a good cop. He is a dedicated professional of the criminal just system that is using the
latest technology to repeatedly proved that crime does not pay (Surette, 2015). His whole NCIS team
would be considering apart from the good cop theme. While in this episode the NCIS team was
fighting with other departments to get control of the case, none of the other departments would be
consider bad cops. In this episode their was also no civilian crime ... Show more content on

They were all very effective crime fighters and were portrayed to be the best at their jobs (Surette,
2015). Everyone involved was a federal agent, with the exception of one character that was a local
coroner, but he was only in one scene. The only real expectation the theme of them being G men
would involve them following police procedurals. Agent Gibs would be the best example of someone
bending the rules to be able to do the investigating the way he would want to and he therefore didn t
following the rules giving to the police by the letter. Examples of this include when he took the plane
the man had just died on so he could ditch the FBI and when he had his employee pretend to be a dead
body and gave him to the FBI so he could take the actual body back to NCIS so he could have control
of the case (Bellisario,

The Importance Of The Executive Branch
The Executive Branch is one of the three important branches that make up the United States Federal
Government. The president is the head of both this branch, and the entire government. He/She has
wide variety of powers and acts as America s spokesperson. America s Presidents have shaped the
Country s history drastically in many different ways. Despite the Executive branch s highly prominent
role in government, it has faced much controversy. Patrick Henry, who was one of the Founding
Fathers, one said this after reading the constitution, Among other deformities, it has an awful
squinting; it squints toward monarchy, and does not this raise indignation in the breast of every true
American? Your president may easily become king. (lexrex, Shall Liberty or Empire be Sought?)
Although today the president is not a king, both the president and the entire executive branch has
grown in power and strength since the late 1700s. When the founders created the constitution they
understood the importance as well as the risks of the executive branch. They saw the many
monarchies of European countries and the trials and troubles caused by it. They saw the corruption of
tyrant rulers and the effects it had on the people. Not wanting the same to happen to the new country,
they kept this in mind and created the constitution so that no president could turn the government into
a tyranny. However, they also understood that the president and his members needed some power to
perform the job

The Plague by Albert Camus Essay
The Plague by Albert Camus
Albert Camus The Plague, takes place in the desert town of Oran, Algeria, in northern Africa. It is the
perfect setting for this story to take place. The ordinariness of Oran is contrasted with the
extraordinary business of the plague. Sprintzen points out that There is a mythic significance of Oran.
Given the previous description of the quality of Oranian life, the selection of Oran as the location for
the outbreak of plague should not come as a surprise (Sprintzen 38). In Oran, life for its inhabitants
has lost meaning. The plague offers them a chance to give meaning back to their lives. The plot of the
story is revealed in five parts, over which we see the characters undergo changes. Through ... Show

Vital living can be stifled by habits. Todd suggests that It is at this point that one should revolt against
his stultifying pattern of living. Recognition of bottomless death makes a habit bound life even more
absurd (Todd 165). Considering that they are completely unaware of anything around them, it is easy
to see that the disease captures the city completely by surprise; no one is prepared for it. Doctors
gather to discuss the matter. They have trouble naming the disease at first, and refuse to accept it for
what it is. This reflects the whole attitude of the town, as the citizens do they very same thing. Doctors
in particular are the first attempt to combat the disease. The individual efforts are valiant but have a
negligible effect. An epidemic is a problem, which belongs not to a person but to people. It becomes
apparent, however that it cannot merely be one who must oppose the plague. No matter what the
doctors do one their own, they cannot stop the dying. The number of victims lost to the plague climbs
higher and higher. Sprintzen writes The Plague does, beyond any possible discussion, represent the
transition from an attitude of solitary revolt to the recognition of a community whose struggles must
be shared (Sprintzen 103). Yet slowly at first, people begin to die, and the citizens of Oran take notice.
The residents of Oran do not need to worry about looking for society and

Old Testament Historical Report
To begin for the past one hundred and fifty years archaeologists and historians have found very little
evidence that the Israelites violently conquered the cities and nation of Canaan as depicted in the Old
Testament. Other than what is written in the Old Testament, no other actual evidence exists that
describes the invasion of Canaan by the Israelites in 1406BC. However, archaeological evidence and
historical records does acknowledge that as a result of the collapse of the Bronze Age from 1200 to
1150BC, there was a rapid decay of most of the major cities such as Jericho, Jerusalem, Al, Hazor,
Bethel and Heshbon.

How Does Norman Bates Relate To Psychology
Alfred Hitchcock s original contemporary film Psycho shocks the conservative audiences of the 1960s
era by delving into the demented intricacies of Norman Bates mind, and questioning the façade of
normality that society expects of us. Sigmund Freud s Psychoanalytical lens allows the audience to
expound Bate s unhinged character and to bring some meaning to the pure psychoticism of his actions.
Hitchcock s manic antagonist Norman Bates disturbing behaviour can be scrutinised using Sigmund
Freud s psychoanalytical perspective; thus perusing the motives behind his horrifying matricide and
subsequential murders. Bates childlike disposition throughout the film, seen through his poor social

Nvc Principles
1. The setting in which I had this past communication that I felt I was not very successful as I wished
happened last semester in the fall. I remember it being a cold, stormy, and raining Saturday afternoon
in my cozy apartment. I was sitting on my bed talking to my roommate about how the apartment
environment needed to change with the other roommates and us. After an hour of discussing what we
wanted to address with our other two roommates, we decided that it was time to actually work on the
problems with the them. Nervously my roommate and I walked across the apartment to their bedroom.

One situation in which I would feel that it would be most difficult to apply the NVC principles for me
would be when I am fighting with my mother. Personally it would be a challenge to stay so calm in
my exchange with her, because I know that she will always be there for me regardless of what
happens or is said. Also, the fact that she knows me like no one else makes it even more difficult to try
and change the way I communicate with her, even if it s for the better. In the past, I have not been very
successful in two NVC principles. Those two NVC principles are statement of feeling and statement
of need. Whenever, I have a conversation with a person and I need to let them know how I am feeling,
it never comes out the way I mean it to. A part of that issue has to do with me using the wrong words
to describe my feelings. A situation where I had a difficult time applying statement of feeling was
during an interaction I had with my boyfriend. My boyfriend accidently double booked on our date
night, which resulted in him wanting to reschedule our it. Usually I wouldn t have minded moving our
date night, but I had been planning this night for weeks. He didn t seem to understand why I was so
upset, and I remember telling him that I felt so abandoned and disrespected that he forgot about it. At
the time of this interaction, I just expressed what I was feeling blindly. However, after analyzing this
communication, I realize that I was not using the NVC principles. I should have used statement of
feeling in the NVC way. For example, I should have said I feel sad and depressed that you forgot our
date night. I was beginning to wonder if it s not a priority for you to have these special nights. From
that experience I learned that I can improve on this NVC principle is by telling the person my
emotions and/or physical responses rather than using thoughts or interpretations masquerading as

its audience to bond with specific characters, due to its extremely relatable characters, depending on
what your beliefs are. It was also a highly controversial play as many critics blamed the acting of
Marlin Brando, as a cause for people sympmathizing with him. The play explores the two characters
Blanche and Stanley, who symbolise the gender roles and the power of men over women in the 1940 s
in New Orleans. This struggle for power, Stanley through assertion for authority, leads to Blanche s

Advantages Of Gap Year
I am convinced that one s college education is greatly enhanced by the maturity, experience, and
perspective a student can bring post gap year. (Fred A. Hardon). A gap year is a period, usually, one
academic year, taken by a student as a break between secondary school and higher education. The gap
year as we know it started gaining attraction in the US in the 1960s. During their gap year, students
usually travel and experience other cultures, gain work experience, learn other languages, and
volunteer. Initially, taking a gap year has not always been socially acceptable in the US, however, it
was much more acceptable in many European countries as well as Australia. In more recent years,
however, the percentage of students putting their higher education on hold to pursue learning outside
of the academic field has been increasing steadily. Although the percentage of students who are taking
a gap year is steadily increasing, in comparison to other countries we are very much behind.
According to the Gap Year Association, many students in other countries wait a year or more after
high school before attending college. For instance, more than 50 percent of students In Norway,
Denmark and Turkey take a gap year before going to college, and that is according to the Nordic
Institute for Studies in Innovation, Research, and Education in Oslo, Norway. Gap year better prepares
students for college and adulthood in general. Because the majority of students spend their gap year by

Where The Sidewalk Ends By Shel Silverstein Summary
In Shel Silverstein s poem Where the Sidewalk Ends , Silverstein displays the stark contrast between a
sidewalk and where the area where sidewalk ends, both literally and figuratively. The poem begins
with a serene description of the area where the sidewalk ends, where it is described to be bright and
sunny with the wind blowing in the background, next to a bird resting on it. However, the next stanza
of the poem starkly contrasts this serene image with a dark contrast of the sidewalk next to the end of
it. In this area, it is dark and dismal, and the dark street winds and bends . However, from there, the
street has arrows that point toward the place where the sidewalk ends. While the poem could be taken
literally, it can be a metaphor for life, where childhood is the place where the sidewalk ends and
adulthood is the street. Like the end of the sidewalk, childhood is often seen as bright and serene,
without a worry in the world. On the other hand, adulthood, like the street, is often dark and filled with
depression, with the other way to reverse the effects is to resort back to a childlike mind set. ... Show

speaker emphasises the pure and prestige nature of the end of the sidewalk through the use of

stanza could also be seen as a metaphor for childhood, as it is often as pure as the end of the sidewalk

However, if a woman agrees to marry into such a family she should be prepared for these feelings.
It has also been said that polygamy undermines the institution of marriage and the idea of devotion
and giving oneself wholly to their spouse. It is not possible for one man to give himself wholly to four
different women which means each wife is really only married to one fourth of a man. The husband is
often accused of being selfish and greedy because he is not satisfied with his family and he feels the
need to go out and find another new woman and more children to add to it.
Polygamy also has many negative effects on the children. Often times the wives will be upset and in a
bad mood because they are missing the husband or are jealous for some reason and the kids suffer
from it. Also it is hard for the children to make friends when they know about there lifestyle. Perhaps
some of the kids don t believe in this lifestyle and don t want to be a part of it, well they don t have a
choice until they are of age.
The practice of polygamy is a very controversial topic and many people disagree with it but all and all
America is a free country and if people choose to live this way than that is their choice and no one
should be able to take that away from them. As long as they are not negatively

Mansa Musa Impact On Africa
The History of Africa is very interesting. They had many trade routes and many resources such as salt
and gold, their most popular resource was gold. Mansa Musa was their leader and had gone on the
Haji as a duty and made their empire known throughout other countries. After that journey the empire
had expanded even more that from the start of when their empire first rose up. As you could tell
Mansa Musa was a good leader because of the choices he had made to create africa today. In Medieval
Africa, Mansa Musa had an Economic impact on Africa because of the duty of islam and the value of
gold. Some may argue that Mansa Musa had a social impact on Africa because Mansa Musa went on
the Haji. Although the map by many different sources shows the

Meg Rosoff and How I Live Now Essay
Meg Rosoff, author of How I Live Now, used external and internal conflict as well as mood to portray
the theme, that together nothing bad can happen. Rosoff put together these elements in her novels to
teach her readers this lesson. Rosoff is described as a cross over writer and does not reflect on the
cultural dumbing down, where adults tend to lose themselves in a childish fantasy where book sare
written for the teenage group of kids. In Boston Massachusetts during the late 1950 s Med Rosoff was
born. Rosoff was born into the Ashkenazi heritage to her mother and father. Her father a former
surgeon, worked at Harvard University teaching medicine. Her mother was a psychiatric social
worker. Together they all lived in the suburbs of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

There were three main novels that Rosoff won several awards for. Her first novel How I Live Now
was published in 2004. This novel won several awards including The Orange Fiction Prize. In 2006,
Rosoff s novel Just In Case was published. This novel, soon after being published, won a single
award. This award was the 2007 Carnegie Medal. Lastly, her latest novel What I Was was published in
2007and won two awards. These awards were the 2007 Costa Children s Book Award and the 2008
Carnegie Medal (Penguin). Rosoffs genera of work is fiction. Her novels most relate to young adults
such as teenagers. Rosoffs novel How I Live Now is first person point of view. In this novel Daisy is
the narrator. The setting of the story changes a couple times throughout the novel. Though the setting
changes the main setting changes from quiet and content to hectic due to the soldiers, But no one was
happy now, and there were a lot of stupid brave country folk armed with duck hunting rifles taking pot
shots at tanks and most of the time getting slaughtered for the trouble (Rosoff 113). Finally at the end
of the book everything goes back to being quiet and content again, mainly because the war is over at
that point. The major conflict of How I Live Now is in the form of man verse society. Daisy, as well as
her cousins, has to face society. As they all are trying to

Logos And Ethos In Carrie Underwood s Blown Away
Blown Away by Carrie Underwood shows many examples of pathos, ethos, and logos in the song. The
emotions within the song are very heart wrenching and dark and the sound of the song is portrayed
this way. The sound of the song is very dark and intense with a fast loud beat throughout which
correlates to the lyrics and the video of the song as well. Carrie Underwood establishes her credibility
by being who she is as a country singer and has been for the past ten years. She also shows logos in
her song by telling the state in which it is happening which she repeatedly said was Oklahoma. Blown
Away is written to people who have experienced similar circumstances with violence in their life at
home and for people to hear about a story. The music ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The song tells of an emotional breakup and the emotions shown in the song are sadness and anger.
After the breakup, she emotionally was torn apart and continuously will want him. Miley Cyrus shows
credibility by being who she is as a much known singer. The sound of the song automatically starts
with high and fast beats which sets the intense scene for the song. By the middle of the song, the
sound drops to a much slower beat but then back up for the final chorus. Wrecking Ball was written to
the guy who caused her to feel the way she did. In the first line of the song, she uses the words clawed
and chained which are not normal words used for people in a relationship. She then says she fell under
his spell meaning that she was into the relationship more of then him. She also relate the death of their
relationship to we re ashes in the ground. Within the entire song when she sung the word wreck, it was
emphasized and had a longer beat. The last two lines of Wrecking Ball was yeah, you, you wreck me,
repeated twice also for emphasis. The music video begins the song zoomed into Miley Cyrus face
almost like looking into her and her feelings. By the second chorus and the increased beat she begins
swinging on a ball, creating a visual of her feelings and her literally coming in like a wrecking ball

The Chemical Elements Hydrogen And Oxygen
Approximately 75 percent of the Earth s surface is comprised of water. Formed by some of the tiniest
know elements that can be found, and yet water shapes and is a vital part of the biological processes
on Earth regardless on which phase of matter, namely solid, liquid, or gas, it is in. Therefore, scientists
and chemists always search for water, especially liquid water, first in other distant planets considering
that finding water on other planets is a major development in the search of life.
Water is a substance that is composed of the chemical elements hydrogen and oxygen. A molecule
consists of two hydrogen atoms, each linked by a single covalent bond to an oxygen atom. However,
only two of the six outer shell electrons of oxygen are used for this purpose, leaving four electrons
which are organized into two non bonding pairs. These pairs surrounding the oxygen have a partially
negative charge mainly through electrostatic attraction increasing its electronegativity, which tend to
arrange themselves as far from each other as possible in order to minimize repulsions. In turn, makes
the hydrogen atoms to have a partially positive charge, and therefore making the two non bonding
pairs remain closer to the oxygen atom, which exert a stronger repulsion against the two covalent
bonding pairs, effectively pushing the two hydrogen atoms closer together. This electronic structure of
water makes it possible for the molecule to bend on a special way, shown through the figure:

Civilization and Freedom Essay
Section 1
INTRODUCTION
Definition of Civilization
Civilization occurs when a society moves to an advanced state of social development with complex
legal, political and religious organizations. There are several definitions for civilization, for instance,
quot;the people slowly progressed from barbarism to civilization quot;; quot;the quality of excellence
in thought and manners and taste quot;; quot;a man of intellectual refinement quot;; quot;humans
living together in an organized way quot;.
Freud defines, quot;civilization is a process in the service of Eros, whose purpose is to combine single
human individuals, and after that families, then races, peoples, and nations into one great unity, the
unity of mankind. But man s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When civilization consciousness develops with the knowledge of physical and social environment,
and it enforces the limits and extents to these, primary drives.
Further Freud divided the human psyche into three separate but interacting elements: the id, the ego
and the super ego. Freud described the id as a reservoir of psychic energy, the pool of biological drives
that arise from our needs for food, water, warmth, sexual gratification, aggression, avoidance of pain,
and so forth. And he believed that these drives direct all human behavior. The id is an unconscious
force, with no link to objective reality. It seeks one thing only: the discharge of tension arising from
biological drives. The id s exclusive devotion to gratification without regard for logic or reason, reality
or morality, is called the pleasure principle. According to Sigmund Freud human beings are essentially
biological creatures with strong instincts, one among them is aggression, it as Freud calls: quot;an
original self subsisting instinctual disposition in man . . . the greatest impediment to civilization. quot;
At this point the difference between primitive and civilized man arises. Primitive man could satisfy his
bodily needs in his id, as it is, whenever and wherever he wanted. Thus he could achieve his freedom
fully in his gratification of his primary needs. But even at that age, the

Essay Government Funding of Stem Cell Research
In the 2004 presidential election, one of the most controversial issues facing voters was the battle over
embryonic stem cell research. In the weeks leading up to the election, polls were indicating that 47
percent of Bush supporters agreed that the destruction of embryo cells is unethical; however, 53
percent of Bush voters supported stem cell research. The overwhelming majority of Kerry backers
also supported stem cell research, indicating that the majority of American voters support stem cell
research. Embryonic stem cell research, while still in its infancy, has the potential to treat or perhaps

In an October 25, 2004 Newsweek article, researcher Dr. Susan Fisher states, the infusion of private
money is indispensable, but it will never fill the gaps in funding created by federal restrictions. In the
same Newsweek article, Nobel Prize winner Dr. Peter Agre argues, relying on private money is like
saying we could open the public schools from 10 to 10:15, but you are welcome to send your kids to
private school. History tells us that there are positive advantages to the government s involvement in
treating human diseases. Federal funding hastened the development of polio vaccine as well as many
other vaccines to prevent communicable diseases. An editorial for the Life Sciences Institute written
by Richard Lempert and Jack Dixon in 2001 states, what is clear is the fact that without federal
funding the progress of understanding the properties of stem cells will be much slower. Given the
current public opinion surveys on the subject of stem cell research, one may argue that many citizens
feel there is a need to accelerate progress rather than impede it.
Many scientists believe that federal funding is also critical to ensure the oversight that will be
necessary for expanding stem cell research. There are those who believe that the possibility of abuse
and public safety concerns are real and vastly understated in

Piano Concert Review
On April 12, 2016 I attended Susan Davis and Dr. Robert Wells Bach, Rach and Blues piano selections
from Baroque period to the modern Blues Era. This was great experience for me because it was my
first time attending a concert that was being played on the piano throughout the entire concert. It was
also a great experience because I gotten the chance to see my music professor (Mrs. Davis) perform

Therapy Dogs Essay
As the saying goes, a dog is a man s best friend. The dog is a loving companion to a man. He is happy
to go everywhere with his master. He shows his affection for his master by wagging his tail and
licking his hand or face. This timeless relationship continues to evolve into new kinds of human dog
interactions that increasingly benefit society. This has led to the belief that dogs can provide company,
affection and support to people who are going through a difficult time or who feel lonely. Dogs have
aided humans in tasks such as hunting, livestock herding, and guarding. However, as society moved
from small rural communities to increasingly large metropolitan areas, the dog s role changed.

Augustus Caesar I chose to do my research paper on Augustus Caesar. The reason I chose him is
because there are few people in history to reach his level of dominance and authority that he

Reflection Paper On How I Changed As A Speaker
I have changed as a speaker in various ways over this past semester. I have gotten more comfortable
with myself as a speaker. I learned instead of being scared and nervous to talk in front of my
classmates, to just put my self in a place where I feel comfortable. For example when I am speaking in
front of the class, I imagine myself standing in my living room just talking to my dad. Another thing
that helped me get through my speech is choosing a topic that I know a lot about, this helped my feel
more comfortable about what I was talking about. This helps build credibility. I realized that everyone
is going to have a strong opinion about certain topics but if you can provide valid information and
have good arguing point in a speech then it could really change peoples minds about a certain topic.
After I completed my first speech I really understood what it took to be a good speaker, especially
after getting feed back from my classmates. This helped improve confidence and all other aspects of
me speaking in front of a crowd. I felt as if the outlines helped me a lot. They gave me a basic idea of
what I need to do and say. They also helped me organize my thoughts and help me stay on track. The
quizzes also helped me understand the topics and why we needed to set up the outline the way we do.
It also helped me understand what was most important in the speech and what I should focus most on.

Taking a Look at Types of Lodging
These past few years, the lodging industry has been growing very significantly. The global hospitality
sector witnessed a strong appetite for growth in 2013, a trend that is set to continue and pick up pace
in 2014 (Strong Performance Predicted for Global Lodging Industry in 2014, 2014). A decade before,
there were no many options of the lodging accommodation. But with the massive growth of
hospitality industry, lodging accommodations are now varied. Full serviced hotels, hostels or
dormitories and Bed Breakfast are some of the examples.
First, the most popular lodging accommodation is hotel. Hotel can be defined as a structure that
provides sleeping accommodation to travelers and that usually features dining facilities and daily
housekeeping service (Akram, 2009). There are various kinds of hotel that can be distinguished by its
style, function, or location. For example, the trends that are getting popular nowadays are boutique
hotels. Boutique hotels are typically furnished in a themed, stylish and/or aspirational manner
(jonckie, 2011). While there are also business hotels which are targeted at the needs of business
travelers and tend to be located in city centres and at airports. Guestrooms are equipped with spacious
desks, and Internet connection (Akram, 2009). People choose hotels rather than other budget
accommodation because they are looking for nice facilities and services.
Another popular alternative is hostel. A hostel is a budget oriented,

Plague Of Athens
The Plague of Athens was a virulent disease said to have started south of Ethiopia, which then spread
to Egypt, Libya, the Persian Empire, and finally, Greece (Kiple). It wiped out an estimated thirty three
percent of the Athenian population during the first outbreak and approximately twenty six percent
during the second outbreak, earning the spot as one of the worst epidemics in Greek history (Nelson,
Williams, Christos1). Its symptoms and side effects include extremely high fevers, inflammation of
the eyes, tongue, and throat, and severe cough before causing rashes, throwing up, extreme thirst, and

Again, this disease has similar symptoms to the plague in minor cases, including fevers, headaches,

as in the typhus epidemic, it can affect the brain, heart, lungs, and kidneys, similar to how the plague
does (Hutchinson Unabridged Encyclopedia). Unlike regular typhus, epidemic typhus had a high
mortality rate (Macmillan Encyclopedia). A high mortality rate paired with similar symptoms of
fevers, headaches, and rashes, leads to the conclusion that this could also be the cause of the plague,
except for one small thing. Like smallpox, neither of these diseases yielded a product in the dental

How Has The Media Affected The Politics Of The Bangladesh...
How has the media affected the politics surrounding the Bangladesh factory disaster? One of the most
deadliest working disasters in recent histpry, the Rana Plaza in Bangladesh collapsed leaving an
estimated 1,300 dead and 2,500 injured. Before collapsing in April 2013, the eight story building was
used mainly by western commercial businesses such as Walmart and Primark. Workers in Bangladesh
are repeatedly pushed by fast production times, to meet the demands of changing western fashion,
leaving worries about structural damage within the building ignored and unheard. The popularity of
western production in Bangladesh raised attention within the western media. This alerted both
companies, customers and both western and eastern governments in order to find who was responsible
for the disaster, causing movement for industrial change. The rise of attention towards working
conditions in Bangladesh encouraged dramatic change but it is debatable if any has been dramtically
successful and why both companies and governments took action before the media did. The Rana
Plaza building became such significant news during 2014 because of the popular, western brands that
were involved with the incident. The severity of the collapse raised demand for change in Bangladesh
s work conditions and the lifestyle of their workers. When looking at this change, it was most evident
within governments and unions outside of Bangladesh. Debatably, this strong reaction towards the

billion in 1993. This indicates an excess of private investing over private savings. However, the
country was able to maintain an improving fiscal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Colosio.
To counter the impact of federal fund rate increase on peso, Mexican government raised the domestic
interest rate by selling more short term government bonds. The interest rate for peso denominated
cetes rose to 15.79% in April 1994 and increased to 17.07% in July 1994. However, in the second half
of 1994, the Mexican government started to reduce the interest rate, contrary to the federal fund rate.
Also, more of dollar denominated tesobonos were issued aggressively instead of peso denominated
cetes. This was likely due to investors being more willing to hold tesobonos as they will be covered
against the risks of devaluation and also lower interest rate for tesobonos than cetes. This was an
indication that there was a loss in confidence for peso (i.e. people expected that the peso will
devaluate to a point that even the differential in interest will not be able to cover and so were
unwilling to hold on to peso denominated bonds). 4. Declining Real GDP Growth
The Mexico?s inflation rate was really not in control as promised by the Mexican government. The
Consumer Price Index was on the rise and real GDP growth has declined from 4.5% in 1990 to 0.6%
in 1993. This shows that Mexico will experience more rapid inflation than United States in the coming
year. This also means that Mexico peso will lose more value than US dollar during the year ahead.
Hence, there will be an

The Gender Gap in Education
Discuss the concept of the gender gap and its adequacy in representing gendered differences in school
level attainment.
The gender gap is the discrepancy in opportunities, status, attitudes, etc., between men and women
(Oxford dictionary, 2012) which still exists in the ever equalizing world in which we live in today. The
gender gap appears in several areas in society such as in politics, employment and education although
gender inequalities have the biggest impact on education policies (Marsh, 2009). Though in the anti
sexist or girl centered approach has the education of the boys been neglected.
It can be seen that these sexist scars are the attitudes from the past where men would make the money
to support the family and women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fathers will push their sons to be more laddish and to focus on sports and outdoor activities and
mothers to inspire arts and crafts and reading. Indeed from these activities a different mindset evolves
which is then taken into the classroom and takes effect in further education as a depressing 40 per cent
of boys will begin secondary school unable to write fluently and correctly, compared with 25 per cent
of girls (Robinson, 2009) .
The 1988 Education Reform Act helped to create a broad national curriculum which balanced the
subject choices of boys and girls in order to progress in making education more equal. As languages
had been a preferred subject choice for girls and science for boys now both genders had to participate
in both and had equal opportunities for success and access. English, maths and science were all made
compulsory until 16 years of age, the time of GCSEs. This way it was expected boys would have
matured and would have a more equal representation in their results as well as broadening the subject
knowledge to boys and girls.
The fact that girls perform better than boys is statistically proven. In 2006 at GCSE level exam results
for both sexes had continued to improve, yet boys success rates had only this year reached that of girls
in 1999 (Smithers, 2006). According to Miller (n.d) the educational gender gap in Britain in bigger
than any other developed country especially

Marion, By Hunter Korhumel
Marion by Hunter Korhumel Whenever faced with life s hardest moments, we instinctively fear. There
is no avoiding this; as humans we are emotional creatures, and we fear for ourselves and others. These
kind of moments can prove to be transformative in our characters. When I say this I mean that these
times can bring about some of our greatest qualities like strength, fortitude, and perseverance. When
you are the only person there to comfort someone who is looking at a life threatening illness; your first
reaction is to be scared and feel overwhelmed. You find yourself asking: Am I the right person for
this? Do I really have what it takes to be strong for this person? I found myself in this situation once,
and I had to approach these kind questions. When faced with these questions I made an important
transition in my life. I had to put aside my own interests to be there for someone who truly needed my
help. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I had never really gotten to know her until I was about fifteen years old. We only had minor exchanges
for a period of about a year until I was sixteen. Finally, at one point she asked me if I would be
interested in joining her for her morning walks during the summertime. Initially when she asked me
this, I was hesitant to say yes. I thought to myself: isn t it a little strange for a 16 year old to be
spending time with a seventy year old? At the time this seemed very strange to me as I had only spent
time with people my own age or close to it; nevertheless, I agreed to her proposal and joined

Essay about Transformation of Japan
Transformation of Japan
During the time period between the 1850s and 1950s, Japan underwent massive changes politically,
economically, and socially. Acknowledging the failure of isolation, Japan imitated the West in an
attempt to modernize, however, still retaining its own identity. A reorganized and more centralized
government allowed Japan to industrialize in half the time it took the nations of Western Europe.
Industrialization provided Japan with the tools needed to transform itself from a half civilized and
backwards society during isolation, to a dominating superpower during WWII.
In 1853 during the Tokugawa shogunate, Matthew Perry, an American commodore, arrived with an
army at Edo Bay to coerce the Japanese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Japan entered the race for colonies. Japan became imperialist after 1890 due to the need to pay the
new army, search for raw materials and new resources, and avoid Western intrusion of Japan s
possessions. Japan quickly defeated China in the Sino Japanese War in 1895 gaining territory in
northern China. In 1902, Japan allied itself with Britain, demonstrating the arrival of Japan as an equal
to the Western powers. In 1904, Japan won the Russo Japanese war on account of its superior navy. In
1910, Japan annexed Korea. Economically, Korea was economically exploited.
The Great depression called for radical measures, which included military aggression. Japanese
military played a major role in setting diplomatic policy. The military was separate from the
bureaucracy and adhered to the emperor. The military saw Japan s liberalism as a threat to traditional
Japanese values and customs and the military s position in the government. In 1931, the military
captured Manchuria without government approval. In 1932, several military officials assassinated the
prime minister. As a result, a mildly military government was created as militaristic prime ministers
presided. The militaristic prime ministers called for expansion in Asia to create an empire. The
demand for wider conquests by the military drove Japan to enter WWII.
After WWII, Japan was devastated by war, but the aid of the U.S. allowed them to recover quickly.

The Crucial Role Of Violence In Africa
Violence plays a crucial role in the liberation of various African countries. The necessity of the
violence, and the justifications for the violence are both highly debatable. However, knowing the
prominent role that violence played in the initial colonization, is a justifiable and necessary act of the
colonized peoples in the fight for their independence. War and violence played a large role in various
political changes throughout history; often war is used as a tactic to force change, when all else has
failed. The people of these African countries are using violence in much the same way, to take back
their freedom. An oppressed people cannot be punished for their violent actions intended to take back
their basic human rights. Especially when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through this mindset of the colonizers, the colonized find necessity and justification in their violent
actions for their freedom and liberation. Fanon, discussing the Battle for Algiers, writes, The Front de
la Liberation Nationale (FLN) in a famous tract stated that colonialism only loosens its hold when the
knife is at its throat (Fanon, 23). If the governing force is willing to torture and kill many innocent
Muslim people for the suppression of the rebellion, then the only option is more bloodshed to stop the
killing and the torture. Though violent actions often hurt innocent bystanders, the FLN believed it was
still necessary in order to have their will accepted and acknowledged. Understanding the justification
of violence that injures and sometimes even kills innocent people is hard; however, if one looks at it
from the point of view of the oppressed, the people are standing by, watching them be treated like
animals and doing nothing to help. They are now accomplices instead of innocent bystanders, and the
violence is once again

  • 2. Anzac Day In Australia The torment: remembering what you left behind and even worse; the prospect that you may never return. Watching the eyes of your comrade s glaze over, while your mind explodes with horror. Nobody can possibly question the fear, the blood, the heartache, and the terrors that haunted those men for the rest of their lives. Sometimes, we just see all soldiers as one body, one personality; we forget that each soldier, though fighting for the same cause, had his own moral and mental battles to attend to. Maybe this is because it s simply too painful for us to comprehend, or maybe it is due to the generic persona given to the soldiers by the Anzac legend. The Gallipoli campaign, though a terrible tragedy, provided the then newly federated Australia with an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some began to argue that the celebrations glorified war and allowed it to be justified. This was rivalled by the opinion that the Gallipoli tragedies were a defining moment in Australian history, and that Anzac day had the ability to unify the nation. Those who question the relevance of the Anzac legend today do so in danger of being labelled as unpatriotic and disrespectful, when in reality, the legend leaves a lot of deserving people unrepresented. Many Australians can trace their ancestry back to a person involved in WW1, which means that families tend to have a more emotional attachment to the topic, and they find comfort and pride in the Anzac legend. Although the legend doesn t really capture the diversity amongst the people who stepped up to answer the call, nor their varying experiences, it gives depth to our nations history, and shows the raw emotion and the kindred spirit of all the soldiers. There are so many untold stories; so many hidden identities, and although we can never completely rectify that, it is crucial that we seek out the voices that will never ... • 3. The Controversy Of Capital Punishment The Controversy of Capital Punishment Capital punishment, or the death penalty, is a form of punishment that has been used as far back as the Colonial Era in America. Although it has been around for the entirety of American history, most of the scrutiny and controversy involving capital punishment arose in the 1972 Supreme Court Case of Furman v. Georgia, in which it was abolished, but quickly returned in 1977. It is evident that many citizens have ambivalent stances on capital punishment; some believing it is necessary form of punishment while others believe that the death penalty is a violation of the Eighth Amendment. Although capital punishment has been used throughout history and is seen by many as a form of justified punishment, there are many reasons in favor of ending the death penalty completely. Capital punishment is an unnecessary evil that should be found unconstitutional because of it is not practical, it is corrupt, and it is unable to deter further homicides from being committed. A brief history explaining the verdicts made by the Supreme Court regarding capital punishment in American history needs to be made to understand why capital punishment has become such a national issue in contemporary America. • 5. Comparing A Good Man Is Hard To Find And Good Country People The Power of Judgement Are there really any good people living on this planet? This question seems to loom in the one s mind after reading Flannery O Connor s two stories, A Good Man is Hard to Find and Good Country People . Not only does O Connor portray gruesome imagery throughout both stories, she also incorporates aspects of religion. What makes these stories captivating is the element of pure shock during the climax. Nevertheless, the short stories both help the readers visualize how judging others or jumping to conclusions about certain individuals can have a dramatic conclusion. O Connor enlightens the readers about how judging a book by its cover or jumping to certain conclusions about others can be fatal. This is shown in Good Country People when the main character Hulga gets too comfortable with a bible salesman named Manley Pointer. Even though Pointer seems simple or of good country people , he is the polar opposite. In fact, he has a secret identity and cons disabled women. However, the reader does not understand this shocking twist until Pointer gets close to Hulga and convinces her that they are in love just to steal her prosthetic leg. Johnson 8 February, 2010 Morbius Fatal Folly As pointed out by Merrell Knighten in his essay called The Triple Paternity of Forbidden Planet, the main difference between Shakespeare s The Tempest and the 1956 science fiction adaptation Forbidden Planet (referred to as FP) is the use and control of power. In The Tempest, Prospero knows what power he holds through the use of his books and spells, and ultimately uses these powers to restore order to the island. However, in forbidden Planet, Morbius powers are unknown to him and ultimately lead to his demise. For Miranda s lover Ferdinand, the film inserts Commander Adams who is in fact the leader of the rescue expedition sent to relieve Dr. Morbius and his supposed companions. There are no relations between the film and the play with regards to Morbius fellow colonizers of Altair 4, but this has to do with the fact that the film was a sci fi adaptation. The drunken butler Stephano is countered in the film with the Tennessee bourbon sloshing space cook. The character of Caliban resonates in the film by use of the Id monster, and finally Ariel is engrossed through the character of Robby the Robot. A closer reading of some of the characters in FP will reveal parallels outlined by Campos. Campos shines light on the fact that [Prospero and Morbius] are figures that, isolated from the rest of mankind, have devoted their lives to the study of some books which have granted them an extraordinary, almost supernatural power (Campos, 285). The main connections between the two are their utilization of science and magic. As pointed out by Campos, the film gives a clear implication that science becomes the magic of the future (286). This statement seems to be truthful as in Shakespeare s time magic would be thought to be no different from the scientific breakthroughs of our time. For example a Shakespearean audience would marvel at the strides science has taken in the modern day, such as the utilization of electricity. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This episode was investigating a naval officer that had a stroke and died on Air Force one after having dinner with the president. Therefore this investigation involved the NCIS, FBI, and Secret Service fighting over control of the case. This show, like many other shows involving the investigation of crime had some themes that are talked about in Surette, 2015 (Bellisario, 2003). One is these themes is that the main character of this show, Agent Gibs, is a good cop. He is a dedicated professional of the criminal just system that is using the latest technology to repeatedly proved that crime does not pay (Surette, 2015). The president is the head of both this branch, and the entire government. He/She has wide variety of powers and acts as America s spokesperson. America s Presidents have shaped the Country s history drastically in many different ways. Despite the Executive branch s highly prominent role in government, it has faced much controversy. Patrick Henry, who was one of the Founding Fathers, one said this after reading the constitution, Among other deformities, it has an awful squinting; it squints toward monarchy, and does not this raise indignation in the breast of every true American? Your president may easily become king. (lexrex, Shall Liberty or Empire be Sought?) Although today the president is not a king, both the president and the entire executive branch has grown in power and strength since the late 1700s. When the founders created the constitution they understood the importance as well as the risks of the executive branch. They saw the many monarchies of European countries and the trials and troubles caused by it. They saw the corruption of tyrant rulers and the effects it had on the people. Not wanting the same to happen to the new country, they kept this in mind and created the constitution so that no president could turn the government into a tyranny. Doctors gather to discuss the matter. They have trouble naming the disease at first, and refuse to accept it for what it is. This reflects the whole attitude of the town, as the citizens do they very same thing. Doctors in particular are the first attempt to combat the disease. The individual efforts are valiant but have a negligible effect. An epidemic is a problem, which belongs not to a person but to people. It becomes apparent, however that it cannot merely be one who must oppose the plague. No matter what the doctors do one their own, they cannot stop the dying. The number of victims lost to the plague climbs higher and higher. Sprintzen writes The Plague does, beyond any possible discussion, represent the transition from an attitude of solitary revolt to the recognition of a community whose struggles must be shared (Sprintzen 103). Also, the fact that she knows me like no one else makes it even more difficult to try and change the way I communicate with her, even if it s for the better. In the past, I have not been very successful in two NVC principles. Those two NVC principles are statement of feeling and statement of need. Whenever, I have a conversation with a person and I need to let them know how I am feeling, it never comes out the way I mean it to. A part of that issue has to do with me using the wrong words to describe my feelings. A situation where I had a difficult time applying statement of feeling was during an interaction I had with my boyfriend. Usually I wouldn t have minded moving our date night, but I had been planning this night for weeks. At the time of this interaction, I just expressed what I was feeling blindly. However, after analyzing this communication, I realize that I was not using the NVC principles. I should have used statement of feeling in the NVC way. For example, I should have said I feel sad and depressed that you forgot our date night. I was beginning to wonder if it s not a priority for you to have these special nights. A gap year is a period, usually, one academic year, taken by a student as a break between secondary school and higher education. The gap year as we know it started gaining attraction in the US in the 1960s. During their gap year, students usually travel and experience other cultures, gain work experience, learn other languages, and volunteer. Initially, taking a gap year has not always been socially acceptable in the US, however, it was much more acceptable in many European countries as well as Australia. In more recent years, however, the percentage of students putting their higher education on hold to pursue learning outside of the academic field has been increasing steadily. Where The Sidewalk Ends By Shel Silverstein Summary In Shel Silverstein s poem Where the Sidewalk Ends , Silverstein displays the stark contrast between a sidewalk and where the area where sidewalk ends, both literally and figuratively. The poem begins with a serene description of the area where the sidewalk ends, where it is described to be bright and sunny with the wind blowing in the background, next to a bird resting on it. However, the next stanza of the poem starkly contrasts this serene image with a dark contrast of the sidewalk next to the end of it. In this area, it is dark and dismal, and the dark street winds and bends . However, from there, the street has arrows that point toward the place where the sidewalk ends. While the poem could be taken literally, it can be a metaphor for life, where childhood is the place where the sidewalk ends and adulthood is the street. Like the end of the sidewalk, childhood is often seen as bright and serene, without a worry in the world. On the other hand, adulthood, like the street, is often dark and filled with depression, with the other way to reverse the effects is to resort back to a childlike mind set. ... Formed by some of the tiniest know elements that can be found, and yet water shapes and is a vital part of the biological processes on Earth regardless on which phase of matter, namely solid, liquid, or gas, it is in. Therefore, scientists and chemists always search for water, especially liquid water, first in other distant planets considering that finding water on other planets is a major development in the search of life. Water is a substance that is composed of the chemical elements hydrogen and oxygen. A molecule consists of two hydrogen atoms, each linked by a single covalent bond to an oxygen atom. However, only two of the six outer shell electrons of oxygen are used for this purpose, leaving four electrons which are organized into two non bonding pairs. These pairs surrounding the oxygen have a partially negative charge mainly through electrostatic attraction increasing its electronegativity, which tend to arrange themselves as far from each other as possible in order to minimize repulsions. In turn, makes the hydrogen atoms to have a partially positive charge, and therefore making the two non bonding pairs remain closer to the oxygen atom, which exert a stronger repulsion against the two covalent bonding pairs, effectively pushing the two hydrogen atoms closer together. This electronic structure of water makes it possible for the molecule to bend on a special way, shown through the figure: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Civilization and Freedom Essay Section 1 INTRODUCTION Definition of Civilization Civilization occurs when a society moves to an advanced state of social development with complex legal, political and religious organizations. There are several definitions for civilization, for instance, quot;the people slowly progressed from barbarism to civilization quot;; quot;the quality of excellence in thought and manners and taste quot;; quot;a man of intellectual refinement quot;; quot;humans living together in an organized way quot;. Freud described the id as a reservoir of psychic energy, the pool of biological drives that arise from our needs for food, water, warmth, sexual gratification, aggression, avoidance of pain, and so forth. And he believed that these drives direct all human behavior. The id is an unconscious force, with no link to objective reality. It seeks one thing only: the discharge of tension arising from biological drives. The id s exclusive devotion to gratification without regard for logic or reason, reality or morality, is called the pleasure principle. According to Sigmund Freud human beings are essentially biological creatures with strong instincts, one among them is aggression, it as Freud calls: quot;an original self subsisting instinctual disposition in man . . . the greatest impediment to civilization. quot; At this point the difference between primitive and civilized man arises. Primitive man could satisfy his bodily needs in his id, as it is, whenever and wherever he wanted. Thus he could achieve his freedom fully in his gratification of his primary needs. One of the most deadliest working disasters in recent histpry, the Rana Plaza in Bangladesh collapsed leaving an estimated 1,300 dead and 2,500 injured. Before collapsing in April 2013, the eight story building was used mainly by western commercial businesses such as Walmart and Primark. Workers in Bangladesh are repeatedly pushed by fast production times, to meet the demands of changing western fashion, leaving worries about structural damage within the building ignored and unheard. The popularity of western production in Bangladesh raised attention within the western media. This alerted both companies, customers and both western and eastern governments in order to find who was responsible for the disaster, causing movement for industrial change. The rise of attention towards working conditions in Bangladesh encouraged dramatic change but it is debatable if any has been dramtically successful and why both companies and governments took action before the media did. The Rana Plaza building became such significant news during 2014 because of the popular, western brands that were involved with the incident. Decreasing Current Account Deficit versus Increasing Capital Account Balance Mexico was running an increasing current account deficit from US$7.5 billion in 1990 to US$23.4 billion in 1993. The interest rate for peso denominated cetes rose to 15.79% in April 1994 and increased to 17.07% in July 1994. However, in the second half of 1994, the Mexican government started to reduce the interest rate, contrary to the federal fund rate. Also, more of dollar denominated tesobonos were issued aggressively instead of peso denominated cetes. This was likely due to investors being more willing to hold tesobonos as they will be covered against the risks of devaluation and also lower interest rate for tesobonos than cetes. This was an indication that there was a loss in confidence for peso (i.e. people expected that the peso will devaluate to a point that even the differential in interest will not be able to cover and so were unwilling to hold on to peso denominated bonds). 4. Declining Real GDP Growth The Mexico?s inflation rate was really not in control as promised by the Mexican government. The Consumer Price Index was on the rise and real GDP growth has declined from 4.5% in 1990 to 0.6% in 1993. Indeed from these activities a different mindset evolves which is then taken into the classroom and takes effect in further education as a depressing 40 per cent of boys will begin secondary school unable to write fluently and correctly, compared with 25 per cent of girls (Robinson, 2009) . The 1988 Education Reform Act helped to create a broad national curriculum which balanced the subject choices of boys and girls in order to progress in making education more equal. As languages had been a preferred subject choice for girls and science for boys now both genders had to participate in both and had equal opportunities for success and access. English, maths and science were all made compulsory until 16 years of age, the time of GCSEs. This way it was expected boys would have matured and would have a more equal representation in their results as well as broadening the subject knowledge to boys and girls. The fact that girls perform better than boys is statistically proven. In 2006 at GCSE level exam results for both sexes had continued to improve, yet boys success rates had only this year reached that of girls in 1999 (Smithers, 2006). According to Miller (n.d) the educational gender gap in Britain in bigger than any other developed country especially ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Marion, By Hunter Korhumel Marion by Hunter Korhumel Whenever faced with life s hardest moments, we instinctively fear. There is no avoiding this; as humans we are emotional creatures, and we fear for ourselves and others. These kind of moments can prove to be transformative in our characters. When I say this I mean that these times can bring about some of our greatest qualities like strength, fortitude, and perseverance. When you are the only person there to comfort someone who is looking at a life threatening illness; your first reaction is to be scared and feel overwhelmed. You find yourself asking: Am I the right person for this? Do I really have what it takes to be strong for this person? I found myself in this situation once, and I had to approach these kind questions. When faced with these questions I made an important transition in my life. I had to put aside my own interests to be there for someone who truly needed my help. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I had never really gotten to know her until I was about fifteen years old. We only had minor exchanges for a period of about a year until I was sixteen. Finally, at one point she asked me if I would be interested in joining her for her morning walks during the summertime. Initially when she asked me this, I was hesitant to say yes. I thought to myself: isn t it a little strange for a 16 year old to be spending time with a seventy year old? At the time this seemed very strange to me as I had only spent time with people my own age or close to it; nevertheless, I agreed to her proposal and joined ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Essay about Transformation of Japan Transformation of Japan During the time period between the 1850s and 1950s, Japan underwent massive changes politically, economically, and socially. Acknowledging the failure of isolation, Japan imitated the West in an attempt to modernize, however, still retaining its own identity. A reorganized and more centralized government allowed Japan to industrialize in half the time it took the nations of Western Europe. Industrialization provided Japan with the tools needed to transform itself from a half civilized and backwards society during isolation, to a dominating superpower during WWII. In 1853 during the Tokugawa shogunate, Matthew Perry, an American commodore, arrived with an army at Edo Bay to coerce the Japanese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 45. The Crucial Role Of Violence In Africa Violence plays a crucial role in the liberation of various African countries. The necessity of the violence, and the justifications for the violence are both highly debatable. However, knowing the prominent role that violence played in the initial colonization, is a justifiable and necessary act of the colonized peoples in the fight for their independence. War and violence played a large role in various political changes throughout history; often war is used as a tactic to force change, when all else has failed. The people of these African countries are using violence in much the same way, to take back their freedom. An oppressed people cannot be punished for their violent actions intended to take back their basic human rights. Especially when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through this mindset of the colonizers, the colonized find necessity and justification in their violent actions for their freedom and liberation. Fanon, discussing the Battle for Algiers, writes, The Front de la Liberation Nationale (FLN) in a famous tract stated that colonialism only loosens its hold when the knife is at its throat (Fanon, 23). If the governing force is willing to torture and kill many innocent Muslim people for the suppression of the rebellion, then the only option is more bloodshed to stop the killing and the torture. Though violent actions often hurt innocent bystanders, the FLN believed it was still necessary in order to have their will accepted and acknowledged. Understanding the justification of violence that injures and sometimes even kills innocent people is hard; however, if one looks at it from the point of view of the oppressed, the people are standing by, watching them be treated like animals and doing nothing to help. They are now accomplices instead of innocent bystanders, and the violence is once again ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
